Firstly, hope all reds fans world wide have great Christmas! Well it's been while (new sign on now, was previously T-Mac) . But never mind that. I doubted BR and will always be a KD fan, but I have to say a massive well done and a big thanks to BR. Top of the league, playing well enough to be there and scoring goals! Strange for me but I went on the spuds site last week THEY gave us stick (0-5 really).

We are a young, improving team with a true world class player, who I know wanted out, but guess what he's staying which is great for us! Two tough games coming up but I'd hoped for 6 from 12 in the 4 games, spuds, Cardiff, citeh and chelski. Come 4th Jan we will be top or top 4 then good for me, build on it and let's go!

Couldn't be happier with the way Henderson and Allen have played in the last couple of matches. For me, Henderson has always been a 'tidy' player without really coming out of his shell, however since Gerrard has been out, we have seen Henderson take on a much more attacking role, laying off some absolutely beautiful passes, linking up with Suarez superbly whilst Allen has harried and tormented the opposition, getting the ball and laying it off to players in space. We do need cover in midfield, but could any of us have imagined a midfield where Gerrard could struggle to get back into the team, and that we would be in this position come Christmas? Pessimists will always lurk, but the fact that a 3-1 victory against Cardiff (who I consider to be a team who could beat most on a good day considering their set piece prowess and good organisation) speaks volumes. Massive contrast to last season. Liverpool are once again a proper team. Not a bunch of individuals, but a coherent and effective group of young lads that are relishing playing. Great to see.

You, ve got to leave Hendo and Allen in the team, the way they're playing now.
Only way to get Stevie back in, is to drop Lucas, and let Stevie do that job.I, m sure he'd do well in that position.

I know him being spotted at Goodison means nothing, but does anyone else think M'villa would really help our midfield. I know he has off field issues, but BR has shown an ability to handle guys like that. I was watching a match from Euro 2012 and the guy is clearly talented.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No. Overrated. Another player who thinks he's made it before he's actually done anything. Anything! Just my opinion.

Loving the team at the moment Suarez goes without saying but hendo flanno Allen Coutinho all have been fab! The only concern I have is Johnson, he hasn't been great for last 3 games in my opinion, city keep conceding we've defo got a chance especially if zabaleta is still out.

Surely it would make sense to get the capacity to 75,000 now rather than in stages. More seats means more money. Even if every seat in the ground was increased by £5. Then that's £375.000 extra per home game. Surely the club need to realise that we need more than 60,000 seats. We could easily fill a 75,000 seater in every home game

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree with the capacity, BUT you can only do what you can do.

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool could fill a million seater stadium.

Well play by the team today. but people are underrating Allen work in our gelling midfield. his pressing and winning back possession is what has been lacking when Gerrard is in the midfield. infact Allen is big part of our midfield cohession, I wouldn't start Gerrard over him now. Good team performance and he showed yet again that he has no size, Suarez!! can't get enough!

I have to agree allen lucas and hendo compliment each other very well and that's what were seeind better pressing better passing and better runs I said earlier this is are best three gerrard for me has to sit in the bench and I never thought I would say it but these last two games show this trio are strong together

Just wondering if there was any news on the redevelopment. I've heard a few rumours touted that redevelopment will be done in a few stages:

1: expand to 60,000 to get us earning more gate money and to expand the commercial market.

2: was mentioned that Ian Ayer had held talks with the council about getting the capacity closer to 70-75,000 seats. Would love it if this was true as there is an enormous waiting list for season tickets.

Just passing on what I heard

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The cost of doing that may well be prohibitive.}

Agree with ed002.
The 60,000 "sweetspot" is about the ideal balance between cost, planning restrictions, and revenue.
This increase is said to be planned -
1. Extra circa 8000 on a new tier to the main stand, with emphasis on more corporate capacity ;
2. This paying for a later new tier on the Anfield Road.
3. There could be a future infill on the corners. But these areas are more expensive to develop and would not necessarily bring in corresponding revenue (who wants to be stuck in the corner?)
But 60k is where everyone agrees its going. Providing the remaining affected residents can be won over.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is not just that, over 60k and Liverpool must pay for improvements to the transport infrastructure.}

Great result for the Reds today! Watching Suarez is an absolute pleasure number 1 in the world for me at the moment, every goal is a beauty.

The feeling of progression is fantastic, here's to a happy X mas period and us going to the Etihad and the Bridge going for the win!

Congratulations on returning to the top, obviously I hope its only until Monday but either way you are looking very very good value for it.

Don't pay to much attention to those who are going to say can they do it against the big teams, its not dropping points against teams out side the top 7 that counts most come May, at which point I hope we're still both right in there

Banter please Ed,

Well done today gents, top of the tree and I have to admit, you deserve to be there, especially based on current form.

I didn't see the game but have seen the goals and I have to admit, 2 fantastic goals by that bloke you have playing up front (cant quite remember his name lol).

But, be warned, don't get too use to being in the top-spot because we will be claiming it back come monday once we beat Chelsea.

In the meantime, congrats again, well deserved and enjoy the rest of your weekend boys.

It is nice to see such courteous posts coming in from Arsenal supporters. Thanks DG, I think most of us are cautiously optimistic about our title aspirations. Wishing Arsenal all the best in their quest for, hopefully, runners up spot to us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol BobbyF,

It is a hard one to call mate. I, for one, think Arsenal need improving, we need an out and out goalscorer to help out Giroud.
i'm sure you boys will probably say the same, like us you are one or two players short, God forbid something happens to Suarez, although to be fair Sturridge was brilliant in Suarez's absence at start of season.

I think Man City are probably the only team with no such problems, but than again, neither of us have their money/backing.

That said, Arsenal and Liverpool both look very good at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is right.

I've never had an issue with Arsenal and I wish them all the best.

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal need a Striker and someone to play when Ozil doesn't turn up (which is every game atm), Liverpool need a CM and A Winger. Jopeful of a fun season ahead.

P.s. its nice to read good, clean opinions/banter from fans of other teams. Good on you DG

According to Barrett certain clauses in Suarez's contract:

1) They don't have to listen to offers from English clubs.

2) If a European club attempted to buy him the price would be higher than Bale's fee. Around £100m

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I rather doubt it is as simple as that. The first would clearly be a restraint of trade that could be legally challenged. The second cannot be enforced beyond the law under which it is written.}

I told you this the other day before the contract was signed as a good mate of Stevie told me so.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not necessarily agreeing with it, he has been a bit off the boil lately.

Couple of questions if you don't mind.

What exactly constitutes restraint of trade? Say like in the summer, with the Arsenal bid that was rejected out of hand. Hypothetically if another club, say, Bayern bid 30m and we accepted it but rejected Arsenal's could that be legally challenged?

Like Juventus bid less for RvP than Utd did, if they sold him to Juventus instead what could happen? Or they way Utd wouldn't sell us Gabriel Heinze, or supposedly Fulham's asking price for Dempsey was higher for us because of the whole tapping up thing.

Like can't a club act in it's best interests without being in breach of the law? Even in the summer John Henry said we won't sell Suarez "especially to Arsenal".

For the second I suppose I'll read on the difference between termination clauses, release clauses and all that stuff, or if there is a clause it has to be the same for all clubs? And to think I actually thought about doing law. 'Suits' makes it pretty interesting!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - What constitutes a restraint of trade is to say in a contract that he could not play for any other club in a particular country. It is simply not possible to do that. As for the second point, people make far too much of the various clauses - I have explained it on number of times, but will do so again as it is a popular theme as, according to the posters, he has several hundred such clauses in his contract.

The "buy out" clause is legally binding between a club and a player. The "buy out" is effectively what it says - a means for the player to buy himself out of the contract. As an example, if a player wishes to buy himself out of a contract, he pays the applicable FA the amount of the "buy out" clause effectively becoming a free agent. The problem is that in most cases a player would need to obtain that money from the buying club - and this is fraught with issues regarding "tapping up" and, of course, taxation as it can be seen as income for the player and would therefore be subject to income tax. There was a test case about the taxation issue in Spain about three years ago.

A "release clause" is far more common in that it gives a figure that the club would accept for the sale of a player to another club - but it is not legally binding except where both parties are in the same country, and even then that only applies in certain countries - notably Spain and Portugal. These are normally unreasonably high figures (Messi at Barcelona for example) introduced to act as a deterrent for hostile bids - and even then the club could easily block a move. However, if a club does agree to match a release clause then the club would be obliged to ask the player if he is interested. Examples are Goetze who decide he wanted to move and Cavani who, regardless of two offers that were made in 2012 that matched or equated to his then "release clause" recognised Napoli did not want to sell and could block a move abroad and he accepted a new package. Since then Napoli said they will listen to offers of €60M or so and indeed accepted a bid this summer - which is of course different.

There is then the becoming popular "termination clause" which is binding between the player and the club and if met would see an offer from anywhere accepted and the player given the opportunity to make a call on a move. This overcomes the issues associated with "buy out" clauses as the money would be paid by one club to another.}

So say Suarez has an 80m release clause in his contract and Arsenal and Real both meet that value. We're legally bound to inform Suarez and accept Arsenal's offer but for Real we just have to tell him a bid was made, but that bid can be rejected?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - If there is a release clause and the terms of the release clause are met then it is up to the player.}

Is it possible to have different amounts for a release clause concerning different countries then?

In other words, could a release clause in the UK be a higher figure than say, Spain?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You can ask what you want for a player across borders as the release clauses are only legally enforceable under the laws of the country under which they were written - see examples above.}

Ah right, that's cleared a lot of it up. Thanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, if a release clause is met and the player wants to leave, is there any way of the club preventing the sale?

Agree0 Disagree0

Although allen is doing well and is a better player than a lot of people give him credit for, I can see why people want to replace him. He is a great player but not quite game changing enough for me.

Its obvious our midfield lack depth in quality even with its current run of form but a world class attacking addition will complete it, either that or spend on a LW so we can move coutinho more central. With henderson.

I think a young CDM would be better than an older more accomplished player as there is no real need to replace lucas yet.

Not sure why people want a new left back. We have a brilliant little player in flanno and 2 more backups. I would prefer to give kelly and johnson somthing to think about. johnson has looked bored lately.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You can't have a full team of game changers mate.

Recent results and score-lines suggest we have enough game-changers anyway.

Anyway, he wasn't purchased for that.

Agree0 Disagree0

So you think Flanno is a brilliant left back but you think Allen is only average and needs replacing? Mate, if anything it's the other way around. Allen is quality, he just needs game time to prove himself. Young Flanno has indeed done incredibly well, but if you think he's better than Allen in their respective positions, you need to give your head a wobble.

Agree0 Disagree0

I hardly think adding 1 more brilliant player to our midfield will make us all game changers.

Im addressing the areas of the pitch we seem lacking in strength. I never said flanno was better than allen, I just think its a more pressing area for us to be looking to improve as well as right back.

Agree0 Disagree0

Name me a brilliant player then who would suit the current squad?

It's not necessarily about 'game-changers' and 'brilliant players', its about the mix and the right player.

Oh yeah, speaking of 'game-changers', there's a certain England Captain injured at present in case you forgot.

As for other 'game-changers', there's been tons of assists from our midfield lately as a consequence of the winning mentality and new-found confidence, namely Henderson, Coutinho and Stirling who have all contributed of late and are still young and green.

Let's just wait till the end of the season and enjoy what we have for now.

So, it is highly possible that come Boxing Day we will battling with City for top spot. We must take what confidence we can from the Argentine Maestro's absense which will surely help our cause at least a little, even if it didn't help Fulham today!
City can be weak on the backfoot, we just need to dominate that midfield, just I say, but that's a hell of a battle against Yaya, Nasri, Silva and often Navas.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well I hope its the strongest man city team they can put out, if u want to be the best u have to beat the best and mancity have to beat us, :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Fulham scored two and they've not been scoring lots, I haven't seen the goals, so can't comment too much but it must be a boost for other teams to know Fulham were able to score and peg them back, if only for a short time.

Does anybody else think we ought to be protecting luis? I would be bringing him off as soon as the job is done with 3 points in the bag we really need to keep him wrapped in cotton wool, especially with Sturbridge out. We have had plenty of opportunities to pull him off after 60 minutes this season, especially since the hull defeat. I just don't understand leaving him on the full 90mins every game. I really hope we get through the season without him or the current midfield getting injured.

All hail king luis!
& Brendan!
& our brilliant midfield!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You never pull off a striker on 2 goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

But if he scores a hat trick, you pull him off *after* the game :)

Agree0 Disagree0

You obviously have no clue what type of player Luis is then. Luis is a playground player and loves the game. Pulling Luis off the pitch is only going to kill his confidence. He is the type of player that wants to play every minute and if he doesn't he is unhappy. He is also the type of player to never go into tackles or challanges any less than 100%, which is a good thing. it is when you are reluctant that you get injured. I played with a guy who played floored every second of every game and I never once saw him injured badly.

One of the Liverpool fans on talks***e has said that we rely on Suarez too much. Obviously he hasn't been watching the games because Sterling, Henderson and Coutinho are just time after time playing the perfect passes and yes Suarez has been magnificent with he way he's played but it's a team effort.

21 Dec 2013 17:19:33
good result today but i'm afraid we are still inept at defending, Skyrtle is a liability on set pieces, Johnston is past his sell by date and Lucas looks poor lately. Shame these problems with the monies spent are still evident for everyone to see.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

I heard it was Sakho's fault for the header.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Dec 2013 18:29:40
Sakho was clearly watching his man. Unless Sakho has 2 men to mark at corners, not his fault.

Agree0 Disagree0

It wasn't Sacky. He was a free man at the back post,, If I was to blame anyone it was Kelly but in fairness everytime they crossed it in we looked like conceding. Need to work on that,, City will be looking for Dzeko all game and he'll punish us if we defend like that. I've got a feeling we are going to win though

Agree0 Disagree0

I think communication is the issue, or lack there of!

And I thought Lucas was very disciplined today.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pretty sure it was Kelly who was supposed to be marking Mutch. The reason I say this is because he was the one who picked him up for the next set piece. He had just come on, so let's give him the benefit of the doubt. I am sure he got an earful from Brendan already.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lucas fine today, what's with all the sudden moaning about him? Goal unfortunate. Kelly, who had just come on didn't pick up. Important thing was that we were three up at the time. Everyone played well today, great team effort. Citeh are vulnerable but we will have to be at our very very best. Looking forward to the game though. Bring them on.

Remember in the summer when we all wished we bought Christian Ericksson and he chose Tottenham because in his own words "to win the title" look a little out of context. I still wouldn't have him now.

At the match today.

Suarez was excellent along with young Sterling. Hendo, Flanno and Cohtinuo had good games too.

Played some really good stuff in the first half with some great interchange in play.

Second half was not so great, once agian we really struggled to cope with set pieces and corners. It's the one area where we really need to improve.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

NickyD
I agree with your comment on set pieces, we gave away too many silly free kicks which they looked dangerous from everytime.
At corners Skrtel seems intent on man handling the opposition and not even watching the ball at times. ( I don't know how he gets away with it, if it was up the other end we would be screaming for a penalty!)

21 Dec 2013 16:58:52
If we do buy a midfielder in January they are going to have to be of world class quality to get into this team. Even Gerrard will have to work hard to re-gain a place.

If you could bring in one big player for up to £30m who would you buy? And who would you drop to make room for them?

Red Rum

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Did you think Allen was good enough today then? Because I didn't

Agree0 Disagree0

Chris, Allen's performance was steady, nothing more. What concerns me is his decision making or lack of it I should say. On a couple of occasions when we were attacking the Kop End, he received the ball, moved into a good position then stopped and broke down the fluidity of the attack. There were options available, he just struggled and made the wrong decisions.

I will give him the benefit of the doubt as he was very good for us before his shoulder problem. Let's see.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think allen for some reason brings the best out of hendo and the three are a lot better then with gerrard in the three these last 2 games the trio have been excellent and can press as a unit a lot better witch is what allen was bought to do press and play I hate saying it but these to games show we are better with out stevie can't belive just said it wow

Agree0 Disagree0

Paul pogba

Agree0 Disagree0

Henderson just gets better and better. Stevie will come in for Allen. Although Allen is playing his best for LFC, it's not good enough. He presses well, but does not look comfortable in possession and gives the ball away with poor passes. Hopefully we sign another quality CMF to take the pressure off Hendo, Stevie and Lucas

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah he wasn't the best today in the final third, it just looked like he lacked a bit of conviction. But let's not forget his performances in the last three games. I think it was West Ham where he did some reverse spin move and played Glen Johnson in, then there was that one where everyone expected him to drill it across inside the box but it was a pin-point pass to Sterling and the last one which was to Kelly I think?

He has it in his locker but yeah solid in the middle two-thirds and let himself down in the final third.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am going to stick my neck right out here, and say that Allen will sway more doubters in the upcoming 2 tough away fixtures. You will see his 'character' as Brendan would say, and shine against the 'big' players (both literally and metaphorically) of City and Chelsea. Allen is better than most fans think.

Agree0 Disagree0

We really do need a good midfielder but the poster who suggested Pogba is away with the fairies. If only!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that is a tad bit harsh there Chris. He has some glaring errors, notably in the final third, but can you not see his work rate off the ball? As said above, the pressure applied with him, Lucas, and Hendo in the final third led to countless mistakes from Cardiff and created some decent chances.

I guess what I am saying is the boy (and I think we do have to remember he is still very young) has only just got back into the team, and has some absurdly large boots to fill :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Allan was top class in the first half, defensively, and was a vital reason we had so many chances and looked as good as we did. His pressing, energy and use of the ball in midfield is quality unfortunately he does seem to be lacking confidence as soon as he gets within 30 yerds of the goal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata hands down! If by some miracle (and I know the chance of us signing Mata are as likely as the chances I discover my super powers tomorrow and find out I'm from plant Krypton) but if BR can use his relationship with Mou coupled with the fact that we do seem to frequently do business with Chelsea (Torres, Johnson, Sturridge, Benayoun) I would go all out for him.

Fantastic game today lucky to have been there. Great 1st half and incredible by Suarez again,, best player in the world right now.
Quick question,, did Flanno pick up a knock? I missed it,, hope not, Kelly struggled IMO needs some more time. Great win anyway again,, hopefully top on Christmas Day and beyond. Keep going lads we can beat City if we defend better,, they can leak goals for a top side and we are deadly. Cheers

Good to see our Reds keeping up the pressure at the top of the table.

Chiefscout, did you get to find out if Salah was in attendance at the game?

Lovely first half performance but even if Cardiff fans are singing for their manager, why can't I hear the rest of the Liverpool fans sing louder. For a few minutes, I thought we were playing away. Other than the crowd and Skrtel's setpiece defending, I was very impressed with Flanagan, Henderson, Sterling, Sakho and Suarez.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Liverpool together with Cardiff's fans were singing for Mackay

Agree0 Disagree0

Wow yes watching Skrtel made my blood boil! how much of an person do you have to be to try that while on a yellow card and in our box time and time again?

Agree0 Disagree0

"How much of an person do you have to be". What kind of English is that?

Skrtel has been our best defender all season. Sometimes, it gets a bit physical at the back. Would you prefer he just let's the forward past him?

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

Red rum he is our best goal scoring defender for sure, the only problem is that it's in the wrong goal

Agree0 Disagree0

Far far too easy to knock defenders for own goals. Anyone who's ever player defence at any level knows that it sometimes just happens. It's not through being lazy, inept or stupid, it's usually from trying their absolute best to clear the ball or stop the shot. That's what they're supposed to do. No, we shouldn't be pulling shirts, but then we get it too. Sakho turning into a real gem, very good game today and inches away from scoring as well. Back where we should be, looking down at the others.

Agree0 Disagree0

Skrtel and Sakho are two "no nonsense" defenders, exactly what we need from our CB pairing right now. Like Red Rum said, I would much rather him be battling it out than getting bullied everytime a ball comes into the box out of fear of giving up a penalty. It is the ref's decision to make, and until they start consistently calling penalties for shirt pulling, I have no problem with him defending the way he does.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Dec 2013 15:26:07
A good win, albeit with a below par 2nd half. Credit to Cardiff for giving it go. Suarez, Coutinho, Hendo and Sakho were outstanding, but Sterling was the standout player, my MotM. He ran the Cardiff defence ragged, topped with a well-taken goal. Special mention to the Bluebird fans who were united in voice in their support for Malky.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes agree fully, though sterling should have passed it to Suarez for his hat-trick rather than going for it himself, but then Suarez should have finished off the rebound.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sterling should work out his finish though. In the last two matches he could have scored 2 hattricks. He clearly lacks finishing touch but his pace is a nightmare for defenders.

Excellent result today and a very good second half performance from Cardiff. They will be losing a top manager in Malky, but i'm sure he will go on to greater things.

Top of the league and could quite possibly be there at Christmas makes me very happy and proud supporter.

Having Man city and Chelsea to face next are the best fixtures we could have over xmas. It means we will go into the games ready and prepared, unlike last year when we didn't turn up against Stoke and Villa.

I'm glad BR didn't experiment with Kelly in the Chelsea or city games. Once flanno came off we looked rough at the back, and Cardiff threatened a few times. Skrtel got to stop with this "defending" the way he is. all the other defenders keep an eye on the ball. I hope Kelly gets a loan or something, want the guy to do well. Also wish aspas would've gotten a run.

Our midfield looks good! Sakho isn't going to lose the ball off his left foot. He's a brute. Sterling was impressive again. Suarez was Suarez. Coutinho needs to develop a stronger boot.

Anyways, comfortable win! Bring on Chelsea! Top of the league boys!

It wasn't anything to do with the fullbacks it was Skrtel being a nob.

Skirtl is becoming a liability in defence from set pieces! He does look however amazing on the ball and can see why he has kept agger out, but if he does not stop this persistant fouling, holding and shirt pulling in the box he will cost us big time, all the commentators are picking up on it, it's been the same for the last 4-5 games. It won't be long before he's a marked man by referees, Jose mourinho will certainly announce his concerns before we play them so the ref will be looking out for him!

I'd like to say what a good player sterling is looking, I for one never seen this coming from the lad, I was calling for his head every time I saw him play. But very well done to him, he really does look the part!

Great team performance once again, great 1 touch football to break Cardiff down, Liverpool of old would not of managed it, so things really looking good!

Happy Xmas to all you reds.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Have to agree about skrtel, especially with Michael Owen highlighting it every set piece, you can guarantee we will have a pen awarded against us in the next few games.the flanno change happened too early and I hope Brendan learns from this, but a great first half and dug in when needed in the second.hendo is relishing his central role at the minute, would take two draws at city and Chelsea, anything else a bonus.have a good Christmas everyone

Agree0 Disagree0

I said this about skrtel a couple of weeks ago and no one batted an eyelid. He tries to do too much and makes stupid mistakes which end up putting us in difficult positions.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sterling playing in Sturridges role, doesn't look to bad does he. Allen should have been rested with 10mins to go with Alberto coming on but maybe BR kept the extra sub for late injuries.

Suarez in this form is amazing! If Bale is worth 85. Suarez is at least 95 - 100 million. Feel bad for Makay. he's gone at the end of this game. Watch out for Erickson coming in.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Suárez is better than Bale, but he shouldn't be worth quite as much, because a) He's 26, Bale's 23 b) He is a liability- he gets a LOT of bans. But I think he's a marvellous player, and actually a really nice guy.

Square, don't get me wrong mate because I love Giroud and he suits the way Arsenal play, eg he holds up the ball very well for a big target man, which is great for our attack minded mids, and he links up with them very well, but his goals per games ratio needs improving.
In other words, he needs to be as clinical as LS lol

Gonna be hard for Stevie G to get back in the side with Hendersons form at the minute.Iv'e often criticized Hendersons guile on the ball but today his passing is superb.I guess we will get to see what he's really made of in the next two games.Hope he makes one for Allen second half!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Stevie still walks in to this team over allen for me allen has been class but ste offers more

Agree0 Disagree0

21 dec 2013 15:14:43
what exactly does he offer danny? tbh its been a blessing in disguise stevie getting injured! when he was playing he doesn't hound the opposition on the ball like allen does, and does stupid crossfield balls into the corner they come off sometimes but not all he time.

but since he's been injured our passing has been fluid and slick especially on counter attacks "all in all i think we look better with out gerrard in" but my opinion by all means does not mean i'm anti-gerrard the guys a legend and just wish we had a 26 year gerrard in are current team lol

merry xmas my fellow redmen all the best for the new year.

achilles.

Agree0 Disagree0

Danny that depends though steve doesn't press or track back. allen does those things and does the same job steve does by linking up play between midfield and attack and gets in the box more than any other CM we have. the only thing SG offers that allen doesn't is what henderson is showing right now in terms of switching play. But SG's dead ball brilliance is unrivalled in the league so far this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Achilles. Tough to say because of how much Stevie means to the club. Our midfield is more fluent in transition and we can play a more pressing defense.

Agree0 Disagree0

We didn't play any beckham balls yesterday, everything was neat and tidy. I love stevie but he does play a lot of cross field balls that
In the end we lose, and it makes it harder for the team to get it back. I like the team balance at the moment, especially with flanno at the back, he's boss

Kenny Dalglish helped scout him and then was the manager that signed him
Surely that means he did have a lot to do with signing Suarez?

I know he was a Hodgson target, but came in under Kenny.

Ed just wondering, do you think that if Kenny said he didn't want Suarez, would we still have bought him? I know he was interim manager to start with but he must have had a big say in the transfers if he were to influence such a deal for Carroll. Or was Carroll nothing to do with Kenny?

Hiya true,
easy sell for lfc imho, go to real, barca and be just another star. Stay at LFC be a legend, possibly the catalyst to 1st ever prem league title, adored by the fans etc. Here he is the main man, now has the contract to reflect it. If at the end of the day he doesn't achieve his ambitions with us, he can go with his head held high that he gave his best.
He will forever be loved. It's a win win for all parties. He gets his adulation either way, we either get the success we crave or a substantial financial reward to help the team move on. The most pleasing thing is the timing of everything. Say what you will, credit where it's due to all parties involved. It's certainly made my Xmas lol.

Good morning eds,

Been a while since I've posted hope you're all well. Question for ed 001 please. There's been talk about Fernando and I know you like medel. I was just curious as to whether you believe Lucas to be a starting DM. From a statistical perspective no player made more interceptions, tackles and defensive key passes last year and he was in the top 5 Best performing defensive players in Europe. Yet people still seen to want to replace him. What's your assessment of him?

Thanks

Nevada

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - personally I think he would be even better given more freedom to move forward. His attitude is exemplary, it would be madness to let him go, imo. Fernando, or a n other, should be brought in to play alongside him, for me, in the main, not to replace him. Though it would be good to have the option to rest him or to alter the system occasionally. }

We win today we go top. We have secured the worlds current best player on a long term contract paying him the kind of money he deserves in this modern day. We are playing the best football I have seen for years with goals galore. We have a crop of youngsters getting better and better. Backing from The owners who actually do know what they are doing and finally a young manager who isn't afraid to make tough decisions, mix up formations, great man management skills and tactically very astute. Reasons to be cheerful this xmas.

For the cynics out there who don't think L.S. is committed to the club and in some way his contract extension is just some smoke screen for a big move in the summer. This is a quote form the man himself.

"When you extend your contract, you extend it because you want to stay here for the future, " said Suarez. "I signed not only for two-and-a-half more years, but I signed for a long time to stay here and I am so happy. When you are happy, you try everything for the best for the future. I spoke a lot with my family because my family are very important to me and they are happy here. We spoke over the last few weeks with the club and everything is okay. I don't have a problem; the club don't have a problem, so it's very good.

"I am delighted to have agreed a new deal with Liverpool and have my future secured for the long term.

"We have some great players and the team is growing and improving all the time. I believe I can achieve the ambitions of winning trophies and playing at the very highest level with Liverpool. My aim is to help get us there as quickly as possible. Without doubt the backing I have received from the Liverpool fans has influenced my decision. I am so proud to represent them and go out to do my best for them every time I pull on the shirt.

"We have a special relationship; they have love for me and in return I love them back. I will always do my best for them and hopefully we can achieve success together."

Now I know things can change quickly in the world of football. Hell he wanted out of LFC last summer. But let's show him what he means to us and let's enjoy him for however long we have him. Because this guy is a freak. He is not natural. He is at this moment in time probably THE greatest footballer on the planet. And he belongs to LFC. And HE is the reason we are getting supporters from the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, City and United on these pages. They were hoping to be able to tell us we let another great player leave this club. Well he's staying. And LFC will be a better team with him than without him.

vrcomp
Y.N.W.A.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We have to be realistic about him staying. Bale did exactly the same thing 12 months before he left Spurs, and we know from Ed002 that Luis' agent was talking to a couple of major clubs barely a week ago.

I'd love to think it was true, but he won't have had such a big change of heart in a week- what he's done is to strike a new deal, where he gets the firm buy-out clause that he wanted last summer, and we get his services guaranteed till next summer, and we also hopefully get a price that reflects his real market value.

If Real can raise 60 or 70m, which they can, then Luis will be gone in the summer. But with that much money we can at least afford a top quality striker, with some cash left over to strengthen other positions.

Ed002 has been trying to introduce a bit of realism into our thinking- such as letting us know about the very recent conversations between Suarez' agents and Real etc, but we keep putting our heads in the sand and ignoring the truth.

Even if we win the title, Real will bid enough to trigger his release clause next summer, and he will probably decide to move there.

I love it when fans of other teams leave posts on our banter pages, because it can only mean they are either jealous or bitter or both.
Writing about whether Suarez will stay, what the hell has it got to do with them? 40M + £1 = Joke that Arsenal have become, and I loved it when they paid 42M for Ozil! Laughed my head off (sorry)
My point is that the more they visit our pages means the more we're getting at them. Love it!
I just hope now that Suarez is sorted, more quality will sign and we will have a squad (even this year) to challenge. Merry Christmas to all and a happy new year to all and sundry, whatever club you support!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Arsenal fans coming on to our page. Its just friendly banter, and I certainly do not mind dagenham gooner posting on our page. I also like it when you boys come on the Arsenal page because its good to hear what other supporters say about your team, be it good or bad, it gives you a perspective from other peoples point of view, it also gives you something to talk/banter about.

i'm not too sure why it bothers Iran Red, maybe he is more worried about us than we are worried about them?

For the record, yes Liverpool worry me very much, as does city and Chelsea, and indeed Man Utd.
Why should'nt they? They are, after all, Arsenals rivals and the teams that could stop us from doing well this season.

Ed001 quick question for you remember at the start of the season we look wrecked in the 2nd half of the matches just wondering if you heard anything around to why that was thank god its behind us

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I haven't heard anything about it, but it does seem to be a combination of fsctors. Firstly some players were not fully up to fitness, for varying reasons, at the beginning of the season. We were playing a much higher pressing game, which is hard work when you lose the ball. Southampton now do two full training sessions a day, both extremely physically taxing, to cope with the high press system they use. Also, when results are going well, confidence is flowing, you just don't feel tired as you are mentally flying through games.}
