I want to see Joe Cole play for liverpool. i think he could be changed into center midfield player. someone who can replace lucus. He is very good passer of the ball. Maxi, Raul, Joe Luis all good at passing.

Like to see Gerrard play from the Center back.role. The Center-backs seem be uncomfortable around midfield area.

To the divvy that said this

Hi I was just thinking, we've been thinking we need a new defensive midfielder for a while, experienced and physical. How about Gattuso? After his ban the manager will probably decide to start playing their younger players more often instead of him. He could be a good temporary signing, picking him up for £2M or so.

do you know nothing about football? remember istanbul? gattuso and gerrard? gattuso called gerrard a cheat and gerrard said hes seen scarier kittens . these 2 hate each other .

yeh gattuso would be a great addition to the side and would work well amongst our midfield.

4-4-2 is only an option for us if we sign at least 1 world class winger and another very good winger. A flexible 4-3-3 a la Barcelona, Arsenal, Lille, etc suits the current squad more, its the best way to play a flowing passing game with what we have. We should press high especially against a poor West Ham side, Kuyt will defend from the front and lucas and sit while rest attack! attack! attack! !

I beg to differ. Check your history and the squads at the time. Liverpool have won the league without wingers. Several times.

Ed, when do expect carrol to be back and I belive C coady will be a world class midfielder. Who do you like out of our youngetrs ed> {ed's note - Carroll is back in training now, I doubt he will be rushed back though. so I wouldn't expect any more than sub appearances for a couple of weeks yet. Coady, Suso, Flanagan, Sterling are the main standouts for me.}

21 Feb 2011 20:35:32
Ed is there any chance that Andy Carroll is likely to be on the bench for Thursday game. He must surely be close to needing match fitness?

{Editor's Note: I would have thought no chance at all - and the club are certainly not going to take any risks that could aggravate the injury.}

21 Feb 2011 20:32:50
Ed, why do i always get you mate, editor's note>. i really wanted the editor note>man mate. Your a top bloke but i always seem to get your replys?

{Editor's Note: All of your posts are saved up for me. I ask for them especially.}

21 Feb 2011 20:09:34
Hey Ed. I know its only February but can you please tell me how many players you think will leave the club (and who, if possible) and also how many players you think will join and in what positions any joining players will most likely be?

21 Feb 2011 20:02:42
Ed, guns to your head, who will LFC sign in the summer mate?
{Editor's note: It really is far to early to say,Oh,and could you please remove the gun I dont work well under extreme pressure}

Edds what would think of xabi heading back to the pool has he has said he got pushed out and it broke his heart to leave stop and think what he could bring to us with two attackers on and his passes .please tell me there might be a chance .phil the red irish dub

{Editor's Note: I really cannot see it happening.}

21 Feb 2011 19:16:13
Ed would like to see the below arrive in summer as I think all are reasonable signings.

R. Drenthe Real M 6-9 million
K. Honda CSKA 10-12 million
E. Banega Valencia 10-12 million
S. Marvueax (free)
S. Kjaer Wolfsburg 10-12 million

I think these are realistic targets due to price, potential and sell profit. Do you agree these could be bought Ed?

{Editor Note: All of the above are realistic targets in my opinion.}

21 Feb 2011 18:55:15
Ed do you know anything about Carroll seeing a specialist at rugby hospital today? ?my source tells me Carroll is out for the season. any info would be of help

{Editor Note: I've heard nothing, but Kenny Dalglish recently said that won't be the case and that it is his intention not to rush him back.}

Dirk Kuyt. ."Ever since I've plugged my iPod into our music system and play the stuff I've collected at home for our games, we've not lost a game." (Liverpoolfc.tv)

So, we didn't need to get rid of Hodgson at a cost of 7 million, bring in Dalglish and Clarke - all that was needed was Dirk's iPod.

21 Feb 2011 18:53:51
We don't need to buy any more CB's ;
we've got Kelly probaby joining their ranks when we get a LB and Johnson moves back to RB
we have Carra still who can most definately still play well for now
we have Danny Wilson who will definately be an excellent CB in the future (he's already a good on now at the age of 19 or so)
we have Agger who when on form and fit is world class defensively and especially coming forward - he gives us an extra attacking dynamic
Skrtel can be very strong and world class (admittedly he wasn't excellent in december and january) but since then he's been solid and he was great at the start of the season.
Olly
We have the greek who can be good but he's getting on and better to let the youngsters through.

Ed I know KK is playing 3-5-2 at the moment but I really think he will be targeting a left back and two wingers primarily in the summer as I am sure, with the right signings, he will prefer 4-4-2. Agree?

{Editor's Note: He has not gotten the job full time yet and Comolli and Dalglish will be buying for a squad and not a team. I have already suggested what I think will be happening with the wings.}
- - - - - - - - - - -
obviously Ed I was working on the assumption that KK will get the job (I am well aware that this may not be the case) but ASSUMING that he does are you suggesting that he will only be looking at buying for a squad? Do I take from this that you think KK won't have a preffered style of play? To think this would be incredibly naive!

{Editor's Note: If you, and Dalglish, don't recognise the need to be flexible with the stype of play then the team will get found out pretty quickly. I don't consider it naive to build a squad capable of playing in different formations.}
- - - - - - - - - - - -
sorry to be like a dog with a bone with this one Ed but while I agree it's obvious that you must have a squad that you can utilise in different ways there hasn't been a manager ever that didn't have a "preffered choice" of system. My uneducated preffered choice would be 3-5-2 but I think KK will prefer 4-4-2 if he gets the type of players he wants.

Ed is this Izaquirre any good and if not who would you prefer, as I really don't rate Enrique and certainly wouldn't pay 10m for him!
Aly Cissokho or Coentrao may be more expensive but would certainly be quality additions to the position we desperatly need to reinforce.

E.H LFC

{Editor's Note: I know nothing of Izaquirre at all. There is a good chance of Cissokho moving to AC Milan and my view on Coentrao has been expressed numerous times already.}

I think we will sign one from each section in summer.

K. Honda CSKA
O. Toivonen PSV
S. Marvueax (free)
A. Turan Gala

S. Defour Liege
E. Banega Valencia
R. Drenthe Madrid

S. Kjaer Wolfsburg
D. Santon Inter
C. Eriksen Ajax

We could possibly sign five of them if we are lucky and one being a free. Ed do you agree five of these?

{Editor's Note: No I am afraid that I don't expect five of those players to make a summer move to Anfield.}

21 Feb 2011 18:17:49
Should LFC go foe Huntelaar, as an additional striker to that of Carroll and Suarez.
He played well with Suarez when both players were playing together at Ajax. Would he forge a good strike partnership with Suarez at Anfield or work well picking off chances created by Carroll.

{Editor's Note: Huntelaar is not the solution in my view. Gervinho perhaps is the striker the club needs.}

21 Feb 2011 18:18:24
Ed i don't believe we need wingers as the 3-5-2 formation suits us really well i think we need to sign just a couple of good players and then some quality youngsters

ED - from a personal point of view I would much prefer Izaguirre for LB than Enrique. I think Izaguirre has settled really well in Scotland, which must be difficult considering he's Honduran. Think he would slot into our team quite comfortably. Also would love to see Lakaku arrive aswell. Saurez could play behind Carrol and Lakaku or either could switch wide also. Much better to bring in than Ngog. Great site by the way

21 Feb 2011 17:19:36
21 Feb 2011 17:09:21
Ed, whos the other target mate, is it payet?spill mate?

{Editor's Note: I suspect that if a further wide player is sought, given that it is likely that Sylvain Marveaux will be making the move, then Payet provides a good solution due to his predominantly playing on the right. But let us not forget that there are also youngsters coming through who may also be able fill the wide roles in the medium to long term.}

21 Feb 2011 16:57:18
I would be upset to see Pacheco leave, never given a real chance to prove himself other than 5-10 mins at the end of non games (similar to my view on Kristian Nemeth although he never even got a sniff).
Also ED, how much of the young striker Banton have you seen. I try and watch most of the Reserves and youth team games and he looks tailor made for the EPL? Thought?

Cheers,
Glov3z the Red {ed's note - he always looked a decent player at Blackburn, I was surprised we were able to get him, looks to have a bright future.}

21 Feb 2011 16:43:55
ED, there has been lots of speculation about Liverpool going for another CM (Banega, Adam et al.). Do you really think we need another player in that position when we have youngsters like Shelvey, Coady and even Pacheco more than capable of playing in that position? The same goes for CB we have Wilson and I would hate to see us signing a player that will stunt their development. However, I think someone we could do with is Wickham, even with the two lads we have brought in we are short of options up front. Thoughts ED?

Glov3z the Red

{Editor's Note: I don't see a place for Adam. Banega would be a good addition. I suspect Wickham will make a move to Spurs. Shelvey will get more time in midfield once he is free of injury and Coady is clearly one for the future - perhaps sometime out on loan. I think Pacheco may well move on in the summer.}

Liverpool could sign Kjear this summer. With Agger, Kjear and Poulsen in an LFC squad, would this entice Eriksen to join Liverpool.

. .or we could sell Poulsen, and use the money (+ additions) to buy Eriksen! I think Kjaer and Agger would be enough for him, don't forget Poulsen is getting old, they would probably not hang out too much. .

21 Feb 2011 14:30:49
I read over the weekend that KK is giving serious consideration to bidding for Barry Ferguson. I, for one, sincerely hope that this is just the rumour-mill cranking into overdrive because this is a player that I do not rate. While I would never be arrogant enough to question KK I believe that Ferguson, who failed the first time of asking at Blackburn, has found his level at Birmingham and should be happy at that.

Added to this, if you look at the way that he has treated playing for Scotland, and subsequently the Scottish fans, then you would have to question his attitude. I think that any move for this over-rated player would be seen as a regression from our recent harmony.

I know that there has been a lot of talk of signing Enrique from Newcastle at the end of the season but my mate was sitting close to KK at the Old Firm Derby yesterday and swears that he overheard Izaguirre being highly praised by the LFC contingent, along with Beram Kayal who also was impressive.

{Editor's Note: There is no interest in 33 years old Barry Ferguson.}

21 Feb 2011 13:46:31
I wouldn't mind seeing LFC sign an extra striker in the summer. Huntelaar would be a decent prospect. He was prolific in his playing days at Ajax when himself ans Suarez played together.

Would Huntelaar and Suarez form a good understanding at Anfield? would he be a good complement to the Suarez and Carroll attacking pair already at the club?

21 Feb 2011 13:29:17
{Editor's Note: Richards is primarily a right back or makeshift centreback and I don't see those positions as a priority. The others would be very good additions. I cannot second guess who will actually sign of course.}

ed richards prefers to play as a centre half, and it may not be our weakest position, but it cud certainly do with improvement, id hav him there every game, in my opinion he is better than every centre back we hav including agger(who i rate very highly), although some of the young lads could be great(wilson, ayala etc. )
would love him here!

jay b

21 Feb 2011 13:21:25
Top of my list for the summer wud be micah richards, the lad is an excellent footballer and a good versatile defender who will get even better. i hope we try hard 2 bring him in, along with ever banega, possibly arda turan and sylvain marveaux. would u take these four ed? and do u think they are realistic signings?

{Editor's Note: Richards is primarily a right back or makeshift centreback and I don't see those positions as a priority. The others would be very good additions. I cannot second guess who will actually sign of course.}

21 Feb 2011 11:36:49
I think the table will finish like this :
1.Arsenal
2.Man U
3.Man City
4.Tottenham
5.Liverpool
6.Chelsea

with just one point separating us and chelsea! your thoughts ED ?

21 Feb 2011 11:27:20
Hi ed, what do you think is the chance we could still get into 4th place? In kenny we trust! YNWA {ed's note - it is still possible, not likely but possible.}

21 Feb 2011 10:33:52
Hey ed, do you know why Barca let Rodolfo Borrell (sp) leave their academy? I know they pretty much can handpick whomever they want, but was there any particular reason why? From the work he and Pep Segura seem to be doing, it seems like a real coup for us.

DownUnderRed.

{Editor's Note: I am afraid I don't know why he left.}

Hey ed
On the youth cup last week david fairclough said Michael ngoo and wisdom would be back in training by end of feb or start of march if that helps the lad asking bout him

Fowler is god

REINA
CARRA - WILSON/ skrtel - AGGER
Kelly LUCAS GERRARD g.johnson
mereiles suarez
carroll

i think we should buy coentrao, a winger, banega or adam. And maybe another striker? What you think ed? And what do you think of the formation?

{Editor's Note: I never comment on teams or formations, but I think Banega would be an excellent buy. I still find it hard to see how Adam would fit. Coentrao may not be an option and it already looks like Marveaux will be coming in as a winger.}

21 Feb 2011 09:17:53
Hi Ed, with all the hype regarding our youth team. there is 1 player that hasn't been mentioned for quite a bit. MIchael Ngoo. he looks a super player. is he injured?

{Editor's Note: He is not injured as far as I know.}

What Would You Think If We Bought These Players? ( Looking Very Likely, Told By A Reliable Source ) . .

21 Feb 2011 04:27:01
People who have wishlists that have lucas starting and meireles on the bench should be ashamed of themselves.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Lucas just turned 24, is hard in the tackle and is rapidly improving his distribution. He is also in the Brazil frame and has been our best player this year.

Meireles is turning 28 soon and can't really defend very well so he's not an option for a DM. He's basically only used as an attacking midfielder but he's not going to take Gerrard out of the squad.

If we play 3-5-2 then Meireles probably has a spot because we use two attacking midfielders but when we play 4-3-3 and Gerrard is used in an advanced role, he isn't good as a holding player so he can't play there.

21 Feb 2011 05:29:31
These are the players most scouted by Liverpool in the last 6 months, apart from Luis Suarez

Eden Hazard wanted for Right Wing
Antoine Griezmann for Left Wing
Jose Enrique for Left Back
Simon Kjaer for Centre Back

Hey ed, I know a few of you have contacts in respective leagues and clubs in Europe, and I was wondering what effect if any this has on you as supporters of your respective clubs? What I mean by this is, I am sure you guys receive information about certain players or things at clubs you guys support, and I was wondering whether this makes you change your perception or attitudes towards your club or certain players at the club?

DownUnderRed.

{Editor's Note: I think the Liverpool supporting Ed was surprised about Andy Carroll joining up.}

MARTINEZ-15M
AND
MARVEAUX(free)(spelling)

OXAIDE-CHAIMBERLIAN-10M(spelling)

Regarding:

CM/ AM - Meireles, Gerrard, Cole, Pacheco, Suso. Pacheco remains frustrating as he simply has not progressed as we all hoped and needs either to go out on loan and get some valuable experience or be moved on. Coady is talked about as the new Gerrard but I think he's more likely to dislodge Lucas/ Poulsen next year than SG.

You seem to be forgetting a certain Jonjo Shelvey from your list. To suggest we need to go out and sign Stuart Downing to replace or as backup when we have Jonjo is mental, Downing is no more than an average player and I would be distraught if we wasted money on him when we have a great talent waiting in the wings.

Hi guys,

Just got back from a work trip in Belgium. One night I was speaking to barman in the hotel who was a massive Liverpool fan. He said Lukaku has already signed a pre contract agreement to sign for Liverpool when he turns 18 (which will be next summer I believe) as will he stay in Belgium until he finishes his studies! The chap also told me Defour turned down a move to Liverpool last summer

Ed where is all this talk of Enrique coming from. If we're looking at a left sided Barcode I would much prefer Guiterrez than Enrique. Ben Arfa when fit will be preferred to play in his current LW position and unless he moves back to the right wing I thing he'll loose his spot. Ive see him as flexible player that can play LW, RW and LB. Messi loves him too. Your thoughts?

{Editor's Note: I have no interest in either of them. I think it will be scraping the barrel to go for Guiterrez or Enrique.

I agree neither are good enough but if I had to choose between both then it would be jonas. {ed's note - you would go for a player that is not even rated by Newcastle fans? He is simply not good enough.}

Messi does rate him though and he plays with him Internationally. jonas is more flexible in where he can play so from the TWO I'd pick jonas. I didn't say I wanted him. I said all this talk of Enrique by our fans has me thinking that between Jonas and Enrique, I'd take Jonas, Thats all. Thats why I posted to the banter page.

{Editor's Note: We could maybe create a "Seriously Bizarre Considerations" page if that would help you out.}

Total respect to Luis Suarez for saying goodbye to Ajax fans in person- the guy has true class and true guts.
Compare that to nando, to ran off like a thief in the night leaving a few days to get a replacement, and then talked about being at a 'bigger' club, and would never now dare take a farewell bow in front of LFC fans.
Suarez twice the man, although he is younger than nando still.
No bitterness to nando for deciding to leave- all players move on. But to do it in January showed no class at all.

Ed, who do you think would be best to end our winger problem - Turan, Young or N'Zogbia? I've not seen enough of Turan so personally I'd plump with N'Zog. {ed's note - I don't rate Young or N'Zogbia, but haven't seen a lot of Turan.}

Luiz Suarez went back to Ajax at their weekend game to say goodbye and thanks to the club and its fans. Now THAT'S a classy way to leave the club (take note: Michael, Javier and El Sulko).
