I wear my lucky Liverpool shirt for every game and it only gets washed when we lose. It does sometimes get very smelly but at the moment it is far too clean for my liking. That's all I have to say on the matter. Bring on Southampton on Wednesday when I will be wearing said clean Liverpool shirt in the Main Stand. I bet the fella who sits next to me prays for a defeat sometimes.

question: who would replace Clyne with Trent Arnold in starting 11? Obviously there would be some growing pains, but Clyne is not exactly firing on all cylinders

Believable7 Unbelievable4

21 Jan 2017 22:53:45
He was playing though pain same with hendo

21 Jan 2017 23:28:03
I said the same last week, to give the young lad a couple of games.
I'm not going to say I told you so though that would be unfair on clyne, he's not usually that bad.

22 Jan 2017 00:31:28
He and Hendo are playing through injuries and giving it all for the team. They need our support right now.

22 Jan 2017 00:06:19
I know it would be a young back line but I'd have Arnold, Matip, Gomez and Milner personally. I don't think Clyne offers enough going forward to justify how poor defensively he is. You look at the goals today and Clyne was pretty poor for two of them. Got easily sold by an overlap for the Carroll cross then left Gylfi completely unmarked as he was to busy ball watching for their winning goal. I'm not sure Arnold would've necessarily faired much better defensively, but he would've at least offered more in the final third. His crossing is excellent.

I am not overly impressed with Milner defensively, but with his crossing capabilities and penalty reliability he has a firm case for playing. Clyne is a passenger though. Great athlete, but not a wing back to strike fear into the opposition.

22 Jan 2017 08:08:29
Agree MK clyne always gets drawn inside leaving space where a RB should be in our area. Slows play down when in the attacking third of the field. I think he needs a break.

22 Jan 2017 09:00:23
I think you've been harsh on Clyne MK but if he wasn't 100% then resting him would have made sense and he wasn't himself. Klavan has been very hit and miss and think Gomez deserves a shot.

Biggest issue for me though was Can in midfield and Llalana out wide. Made us ponderous in midfield and low energy (Can was the one not tracking his runner that put in the cross again) and lacking creativity from deep while Llalana is far less effective from out wide. We know our best midfield is Hendo/ Wiji/ Llalana, why not stick with that, especially given Cans recent form and just sub any of Sturridge, Origi or Ojo in for Mane?

22 Jan 2017 08:59:36
TAA needs games and not a fine seat on the bench. Provided with 10 successive chances TAA will beat Clyne easily.

22 Jan 2017 11:59:33
Taa is just a kid. Let's not all jump the gun like with Ibe. He'll need quite a lot of time. I'm not a great fan of Clyne admittedly but no point in throwing taa in to face the wrath of our fans, especially when things aren't going our way. He showed promise in the cup and against Utd but he also showed quite a lot of rawness which will be exposed really quickly. A few trips off the bench might best suit his development and who knows for next season.

{Ed025's Note - sensible that mate..

22 Jan 2017 12:27:17
Not being harsh on Clyne at all. If he in pain, and therefore not at his best, all the more reason to let Trent Arnold play. He did against United so I would have thought could do vs Swansea.

21 Jan 2017 22:12:32
Where is the real Klopp? He has been very subdued the last few weeks. The fist clenching, heart thumping one has been missing the last few weeks.

Believable6 Unbelievable4

21 Jan 2017 23:48:02
Yes he's now realising what a shower the owners are and the fact he keeps missing out on all his targets through penny pinching. I knew our season would fall apart Jan/ Feb. Its the title or nothing for me. I pray we don't get top 4 just to put a dent in the owners 'most profitable club in Europes' wallet.

They make me sick. Klopp gets lumbered with step toes horse (Emre Can) in midfield, the lad will never make the grade in a million years with a running style like that, while we have to endure seeing Delli Ali push Spurs on after being driven to Anfield to sign but turned away by Ted Rodgers, the committee and the owners because they wouldn't pay a few quid more. We need a decent attacking mid, winger and centre half so what's going on?

21 Jan 2017 23:49:25
As a mate of mine said earlier - Emre Cans like someone under your feet in the kitchen. He's just in the way.

22 Jan 2017 05:15:35
Welcome back Ozone.

{Ed025's Note - have you missed his moaning suku?..

22 Jan 2017 06:04:21
Was it Klopp himself who told or indicated to you that he's "realized what a shower the owners are"?
Who did Klopp miss out on? You able to provide any factual backing here?

Since Klopp "missed out on all his targets", who's signings were Mane, Klavan and Wijnaldum? How much was paid for those players?

You then say "I knew our season would fall apart Jan/ Feb. Its the title or nothing for me. "
Can you explain this statement? You knew our season would fall apart mid season and yet still are expecting a title? How does that work pal?

Your ill-wishing the team shows you up for what you are: an embittered, entitled, clueless media-misled sheep and embarrassing, miserable excuse for a supporter peddling lies and untruths.

YOU and YOUR ilk make me sick.
You embody and epitomise the embarrassment of the fan ed002 would refer to.

Your claim about the Delli Alli, again evidence do you have that the move, if ever it was on in the first place, broke down owing to the owners "because they wouldn't pay a few quid more"?

Was there an offer made for Alli? If so how much? And what was the "few quid more" that the owners "wouldn't pay"?
Any sort of factual basis on this would be appreciated.

I'd be interested as to what your understanding of the roles of the owners, "transfer committee" and manager are.

It is very important that we don't speak authoritatively on matters on which we don't have an iota of clue/ facts.
Instead going on whatever the media says.

People like Ozone are dangerous. For the reason that their views, (from which their bitterness, bile and hatred stems), are wholly founded on media speculation, which in itself is often baseless.

Your Ozones then peddle this to the next sheep and soon you have multitudes of them. You see them all around in social media.

This Ozone has had his mouth clipped all season. Now that the team seems to have hit a bad patch, he rears his embittered head.
His fire has been lit. He's a now a happy bunny. after having been denied that by the excellent start and performances.

The team will pick up again. And, true to his nature, the Ozone will be forced to crawl back into his hole. And the world will be a better place again.

{Ed025's Note - a bit scathing there suku..but for me a great post which could be aimed at a host of clubs...kudos my friend..

22 Jan 2017 08:57:22
Your right Suku I have reared my embittered head as I pay my dough through the turnstiles week in week out home and away. Surprisingly I saw a chance of the title before Xmas but started to realise the heavy reliance in Manes pace.

I also realised that the pressing game was unsustainable for a full season with a threadbare squad. I also realised that the starting 11 against Chelsea on that Friday night game was the best 11 for the system Klopp likes to play.

I also realised that take a cog out of that starting 11 and the systems compromised and our back up to include Emre Can in midfield doesn't work. I've also now realised that top 4's all the owners want as they're happy with the Arsenal model. Key players to Klopps optimal system include Matip, wyjnandum, mane, hendo and coutinhio for various reasons. Have we got like for like similar in the squad? No and there's no signs the owners intend.

For the record pulsic, Brandt and draxier were all missed targets due to penny pinching. No Suku, your the clueless media led lemming lad. And no I no longer have aspirations of the league, that ships sailed, the seasons falling apart as I said for various reasons but fundamentally due to the lack of investment in the squad.

22 Jan 2017 09:26:22
Any fool can see the investment in the squad has been proportionate with our means. I regard the fact that we have a title-competitive 1st 11 as good progress. Next step to build depth and improve key positions. We have definitely missed Coutinho Matip and Mane.

Of the few positives from yesterday, Bobby scored again and Coutinho got valuable game time. We need a reaction from this, as Klopp said. YNWA

22 Jan 2017 09:44:13
Suku - you tell me what you think Wyjnandum does. You tell me about his function in the midfield and then provide an overview of our midfield.

22 Jan 2017 09:45:25
"Have we got like for like similar in the squad? "

How many transfer windows has Klopp had? Was he supposed to buy 10 new players in one go? Don't you realise that you can't keep adding players on without shedding some? The intention is to trim and streamline the squad, not further bloat it.

"No and there's no signs the owners intend"

What do you want the owners to do here? Should the owners be throwing money haphazardly at Klopp, gun-marching him into buying 10 new players in one window?

"For the record pulsic, Brandt and draxier were all missed targets due to penny pinching"

I ask again that you furnish us with proof of the above. You got knowledge of Klopp's declared desire to buy any of those players, and importantly of LFC's unacceptable bids and owners' refusal to pay "a few quid more"? What was the amount penny-pinched? Do you have reliable info or you just peddling Daily Mail, Sky and other such media horse crap? And using it as stick to beat the club?

"I also realised that the pressing game was unsustainable for a full season with a threadbare squad"

Is it the owners' fault that the team, in spite of having (in your words) a "threadbare" squad, continues to play an "unsustainable" pressing game?
Again, did you expect Klopp to buy 10 players in window? Interesting that none of comments touch on Klopp and where he himself is to be faulted. The owners are an easy target, huh?

"I pay my dough through the turnstiles week in week out home and away"

Then don't pay mate. You and your ilk are the kind of customers that any business would be happy to show the middle finger. "I pay my hard earned dough". That give a licence to act all prickly? Thanks, buy keep your cash in your pockets

22 Jan 2017 09:00:49
Except I pray not to get top 4, I agree with Ozone. But mate most of the players were Klopp's first choice. He wanted both Klavan and Wijnaldum and the club got him.

22 Jan 2017 10:01:21
Your right on one thing there Suku - the owners would happily show one finger to the likes of me in order to push through more corporate fans, sell on bigger proportions of the ticket allocation to Thomas Cook in order to rejoice in a mass of day trippers with half and half in the club shop and the sort of atmosphere we had yesterday. Footballs gone, especially with the modern fan type like yourself and your ilk.

22 Jan 2017 09:10:46
Ed025

Hey mate. Howzit!

No, I most certainly did NOT miss his whining. Quite the opposite.
We often talk about players, manangers/ coaches/ federations etc who have ruined the game.
Yet astoundingly, we give a free pass to the so called fans who too sink the the beautiful game to the gutter.

They the fickle type, bitching ad infinitum and rarely, if ever, have anything positive to say about the team.
As it doesn't play into their narrative, they'll overlook, downplay and dismiss any good being done and latch onto the first mishap.

It cuts across the whole football spectrum. Just yesterday we seen the whole lot of them popping out, relieved and downright thrilled about the team's admittedly appalling performance and poor result. cos it's the wind that fans their flames.

It's so sad and quite frankly disgusti g. But then again, it's what football has come to.

Even with your lot ed025, I seen some already calling for Koeman's not long ago. and the reasons put in up in support nothing short of ludicrous.

Unbelievable

{Ed025's Note - i could not agree more suku, fans today are so fickle and like one of our lads put it "microwave supporters" looking for instant success, the reds have had a great season up to now and playing good football under one of the brightest managers in the game then a defeat leads to cries of... were crap...time for klopp to go and half the players are to up to it now apparently..unbelievable is the word mate..

22 Jan 2017 10:49:37
Suku for president! 👍

22 Jan 2017 10:50:12
Yes what I'm saying sweet chin is that as owners (well if they were owners who were interested in football) they would've seen how Klopp likes to play, this was evident early in the season and I felt this hit its nadir against chavs, we were outstanding.

However, it was clear that the system was finely tuned and reliant on a specific type of player doing a specific role, wyjnandum being key in the midfield as he links up play between defence and mid, mid and attack, he effectively makes himself the 12th man. This doesn't work when Emre Can sits in mid, the whole system collapses.

Bournemouth away exposed the threadbare squad, at 1-3 you could see Klopp wanted to shut up shop but looked at bench full of kids and had no faith in the job needed, the rest is history. Knowing manes off to ACON and that clearly midfield folds when Cans in the mix, why haven't owners backed Klopp in Jan considering we were on for the title early in the new year? It's criminal.

22 Jan 2017 10:54:40
Am I saying Klopp to go? What are you talking about? Far from it, I'm saying he's not being backed. He's proven in his short tenure he has the Miras touch, with a fantastic goal scoring brand of football, so FSG - back the man and bring us success.

They won't however as they're happy with the German wenger. Jurgens body language yesterday suggests he's frustrated. Is he the next resale little gem? Off to Bayern at some point maybe.

22 Jan 2017 11:06:09
"Microwave Supporters". Class! I'm stealing that one. I just think of them as emotional children.
I run my own business. There are lots of ups and downs and it's jolly hard work. If I sacked my staff after a single poor result my recruitment costs would be huge. It takes time, effort and patience to build a winning team.

Fact is as a rounded squad we are behind Chelsea, Spurs, City and Arsenal. We have done so very well thus far. The team and management should learn from the past few difficult games an go again. Bring on Southampton!

22 Jan 2017 11:22:19
Sweet chin - my post about wyjnandum asking Suku to define what he does may read negative. It wasn't intended to be negative but to the contrary. I just wanted to know how Suku sees him and his role in the midfield.

I think he's a breath of fresh air and out kante'd kante'd against chavs but he can be non effective when it's pecestrian and he has nothing to link up when the pace and press is taken out of our game with square pegs and round holes.

22 Jan 2017 11:55:57
Ozone. if your so unhappy and things are so bad then stop going to the games and spending your money as nobody is forcing you to go. Sounds like you hate everything and everyone connected with LFC. Yesterday wasn't good enough, your right, but the bile you spout is totally unnecessary!

22 Jan 2017 12:00:20
Ozone. Have we not been here before? When you knew that we wouldn't finish in the top 4 under Rodgers, nearly around the same time of year? let's just see how it pans out will we?

22 Jan 2017 13:00:14
I can't believe we have supporters who don't want us to finish as high up the league as possible. It doesn't make any sense to me.

{Ed025's Note - nor me ron..

22 Jan 2017 13:07:17
Isn't this all a bit ridiculous? We are going through a bit of a dip in form, caused by injuries to a whole bunch of key players. But, we've still played some of the best attacking football I've ever seen this season, we have one of the greatest managers in the world and a squad filled with players who are going to improve under his care.
Don't get me wrong our squad has weaknesses, as does klopp, but this is the best place we've been in since 2009/ 2010 so I sure am sure as hell not in the mood to complain

22 Jan 2017 12:07:13
Ed002. If you be so kind. Did Liverpool miss out on Brandt and Draxlar due to penny pinching? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Winger Julian Brandt was considered by Liverpool as a very high-profile youngster when he was 17. There has been no interest in him since although there is interest from a couple of other English sides. Liverpool showed no interest in Draxler.}

22 Jan 2017 15:11:44
Thanks lads.
We should change the song to
YOU'LL NEVER TROLL ALONE.

22 Jan 2017 15:10:45
Thanks Ed002. I had a fair idea it was nonsense but always great to get it from the horse's mouth.

22 Jan 2017 17:17:10
It's painful it really is.

22 Jan 2017 17:18:53
Ron Keague - would you be happy with emulating Arsenal over the past 20 years?

22 Jan 2017 20:37:03
Arsenal have won quite a bit in the last 20 years, more titles than us.
So the answer would be "probably".
Wouldn't want to miss out on number 5 though 😎

22 Jan 2017 19:25:04
Ozone

The owners have backed the managers at will. From Kenny to Klopp they have tried their best to bring in the best players possible. Firmino paid over the tops. Lovren £20 mill. Sakho £20 mill, Wijnaldum £25 mill, Mane £35mill. The owners doesn't pick the players, doesn't draw formations or tactics. The manager is clearly at fault for the poor results. Klopp doesn't got another way other than running all day. He couldn't organize a defense and we have been leaking goals from day 1.

And For Wijnaldum. I am with you. He offers nothing to me as people claim here not for the money we paid nor the most important position he occupies.

22 Jan 2017 23:54:30
No sweet I rate Wijnandum, he's effective in the right system and that system has to be driving forward and hard press. He seems to me to be potentially one of he bedt in the business for the modern 'water carrier' role but in a static midfield he's pointless as he serves no purpose. When Emre plays Wijnandums non effective. We need another attacking midfielder in the mould of cout Emre Cans a classic 442 midfielder. He's similar to Lucas looking gor the side ways pass which consequently relies on good wingers. Lucas came into his own under Kennys 442 but got cut short with the injury at Chelsea. Emre never has and never will be a Klopp type midfielder.

21 Jan 2017 22:10:27
People right in and ask the edds their opinion of how the team performed and the edds give their honest opinions. Some times the critisise a players performance and people agree or disagree but their opinions are accepted. Then we have supporters writing in with their opinions and if it is a criticism then they can be abused and their loyalty to LFC questioned. I am along standing LFC supporter and I was absolutely devastated by our performance against Swansea and as has happened in similar games our defence made bad mistakes and we were punished. Milner has performed very well as a stand in lb but he is not quick enough or able to cross with his left foot to be a proper wing back like our system requires. I would also question Clynes ability going forward to suit our needs. Finally we may already have the answer to our CB problems but as of yet it is still a problem. So if I critisise a player or performance it's because I care and I want our team to be as good as the teams I have been privileged to watch for nearly sixty years and I will always support them

Believable11 Unbelievable3

21 Jan 2017 22:30:10
Only Firmino achieved a good standard today.
Defence was it's usual panicky self. Matip is the only defender with any class who reads the game rather than reacting to pressure. It's like our defenders have never played before and having to defend is completely alien to them. Lovren has had plenty of chances, he's proven that he's not good enough when Matip is not there. I would sell him and Sakho and buy someone composed.
Midfield is a real worry, we've stopped the rapid movement of the ball. Our midfielders now receive the ball, stop dead, dither, then pass it back or play a Hollywood pass to Clyne.
We need rapid movement and we need direct players who will run forward with the ball.
Coutinho was coming back from injury, but you can still see his class. Origi was poor again, Sturridge was isolated.

We can drag it back, Mane will make a huge difference as will Matip, but I've finally accepted we probably do need more reinforcements, a midfielder and a centre back in the style of Matip.

21 Jan 2017 22:34:25
I think their is a fine line between criticism and abuse. So fine in fact, that perhaps the only way it is defined is by the delivery of said opinion. The Eds are very eloquent and capable of giving an honest opinion without descending into vitriol. To be fair, so are 90% of the regulars on the site. However there are a select few (largely irregular posters) who seem to just wait in the shadows until we hit a rough patch and then come flying out to say "I told you so". I'd go as far to say some 'fans' actually hope we lose so as to justify their thinly veiled abuse. It must be a sad life.

{Ed007's Note - I'm just hoping by the time I reach Evered77's age I'm never 'absolutely devastated' when my football team loses. I wonder if he cried today?}

21 Jan 2017 22:36:51
Criticism isn't the issue mate it's that on the live chat in particular people come up with sweeping statements like Lallana is useless or wouldn't mind if couts is sold he's been rubbish. That's the sort of thing that gets fans annoyed

21 Jan 2017 23:48:57
Good on you, Ever. I have no problems criticizing the players perfs or the manager`s tactics or choices as those are relevant issues. Like today, we were a shambles from start to finish and had we gotten a point, we still would have been lucky cos we were that awful with mistakes all over the place. But it`s the non-constructive criticism, laced with doom and gloom as well as knee jerk overreactions to bad results, is where the issue is.

Someone mentioned that during the game`s live chat, some fans were asking for Klopp`s head and wanted Rafa back. Are you kidding me? We are having a dip in form that we are fighting through and Klopp is the most frustrated of all as you can see in his post match presser BUT to want him gone with almost half a season to go?

It`s such things that cause unnecessary debates that lead us nowhere. We can debate, criticize and disagree BUT we cannot lose focus on our common goal which to me was always CL footie from the off, as the title was a bonus, IMO. Let`s just vent for a moment BUT remember that we have another must win game come Wed to focus on.

22 Jan 2017 02:34:04
The pace and intensity was missing from our game till we went 2 down.

Then something triggered and all of a sudden we were all over them.
We got back level and we're setting in for the kill with the whole team thinking tbat they could be the star who gets the winner, leaving the defensive duties to somebody else.

More hard lessons hopefully learnt today.
We need the pace and intensity from the get go.
This period is really Klopp's first real hole opener of a problem to deal with.
Time to walk the walk

22 Jan 2017 08:54:25
I agree with you Ron. The speed and directness through midfield has been lacking of late. IMO that is down to Lallana being moved further forward to cover injuries. That has often meant Hendo, Wijnaldum and Can as a midfield 3. Yesterday it was those three with Hendo struggling for fitness. I'd like to see Lallana pushed back in there (preferably with Can, although I know that goes against the majority on here) . When we lose a starter from our front three, be it injury, AFCON etc, I'd like to see another forward fill the gap rather than moving our most direct midfielder forward. You'd think we should always be able to pick three fit and firing from Mane, Coutinho, Firmino, Sturridge, Origi, Ojo, Woodburn, Ings and Wilson. (Yes, I know some of those are currently unavailable! I meant consistently, throughout the season)

21 Jan 2017 21:35:00
We are Liverpool tralalalala!

I'm all for criticising the team when they are not playing well but to slate players for slating sake is crazy. And the constant moaning like we are going to drop out of the top four. please if anyone offered us this position at the start of the season we would of snapped their hands off.

Yes we want to win the league, but we've gone through a rough couple of months with games coming thick and fast and we are still in the top four. I remember years back when we were out of the title race in January.

So let's get behind the team and take a game at a time and treat every game from the off like we did when we were 2-0 down. No game in this league is a gimmie.

Believable6 Unbelievable9

21 Jan 2017 21:59:49
Great shout mate. I personally would be over the moon if we finish in the top 4 everything else is a massive bonus.

21 Jan 2017 22:05:12
I'd think about putting young Moreno back in at left back. He's definately looked better defending in his last few appearances and has tremendous speed going forward, and put Milner in midfield instead of Can, who's not playing well at the moment.
TAA in for Clyne as well.

21 Jan 2017 22:13:04
We should be beating Swansea when they was at the BOTTOM of the league. It's not good enough I don't care what anybody says, we start the first half of the season off so well yet just recently we aren't doing good one bit, what's the problem here? I'm genuinly worried about us now.

21 Jan 2017 22:31:11
Lfc16 there lies the problem, we believe we have the right to beat these teams but this is the toughest league in the world, if your not at your best you can lose. It's not Spain where you only turn up against the big teams, look at pep for instance.

Am doing we are not doing well because we haven't got all week to prepare for a game that's the only difference to the start of the season and missing a few first 11 players. When they are back and games start thinning out we'll be back to our blistering best.

21 Jan 2017 22:34:09
And liver la, not Milner in midfield it doesn't work. And Moreno is still a liability, I would drop can, he's struggling big time at the minute, and get lallana in the middle three with one of the young ups up top with couts and firmino.

21 Jan 2017 23:00:34
Agree onceared. What we saw through the entire period that we were playing well was sharp passing and creativity through midfield. In almost all of these games one of lallana or coutinho started in midfield to provide the creativity. For some reason klopp has stopped playing them there, replacing them with cann. This has stopped the fluidity and creativity from midfield as can is a strong runner but he always wants too many touches and too much time. One of lallana and coutinho has to start in midfield regardless of who fills the forward positions. Can should not start until he has learnt to adapt to the system during training and cup games.

21 Jan 2017 23:13:35
Just a few questions being asked at the moment.

Didnt need 3 in the middle today and don't at home to be honest no with lallana and his sork rate

Hendo wij
Origi adam phil
Robbie

Few changes next few games get mane back. It will be all good.

End of the day we finished 8th and signed mane and wij. noone expected the prenierleague. like at all. none.

Top 4 will be just perfect. Add a couple of good players in te summer and keep moving forward.

Are single biggesr challenge is keeping it all togehter and adding. not selling one of our big pkayers.

Sorry for the spelling errors. Haha

21 Jan 2017 23:59:36
LFC16, I feel your pain, for sure. Our problems are obvious. We were in a good way (Bmouth notwithstanding) and then we had injuries in key positions to key players like Matip, Couts, Lallana, compounded by the loss of Mane. This has led to our dip in form cos we are not as potent without all these players out in one go.

Klopp is doing his best and we have gotten results BUT not as often as wanted, all collumnating in the collective shambles vs Swansea where a point, would have been quite generous. we just have to dig deep and stick it out for a couple more weeks till Mane, Couts and Matip are back to form and we`ll be fine. Saints are next as we have a ticket for Wembley to punch.

21 Jan 2017 20:55:49
Win some you lose some. No one has an automatic right to walk on the pitch and collect 3 points.

Lallana wasted on the wing. Drop Can and let lallana drop back.

Harry Wilson or Ojo for the right wing position for me whilst Mane's away.

TAA in for Clyne.

Don't worry red men, everyone has off days

Believable11 Unbelievable6

21 Jan 2017 22:56:30
Will people stop with this Wilson and Ojo lark. They're not even getting on the bench so they aren't going to play. They would be part of the match the squad if they were good enough right now, but they're not.

22 Jan 2017 10:36:01
Just my opinion, natural.

So many fickle liverpool fans. Klopp has us playing well and a few bad results and all of a sudden we need a new squad and to invest 100 million in our squad. It's ridiculous the things I've read. Go all out and sign van dijk? Henderson is rubbish apparently when he dominated pogba last week. I trust klopp he's the best manager we have had in recent years. Would you rather we go back to hodgson Rodgers or Dalglish? Every team has a dip we have to realise that. We need to get behind the team and support them. Not go out and spend 10 billion on a new squad. Look how well spurs are doing from good recruitment, good manager and a strong team spirit.

Couldnt agree more. I've started to not go on match chat room on here as I can't stand the so called "fans". Just suck it up. You win some you lose some.

21 Jan 2017 18:13:25
our defence has been dire all season we've just been scoring gor fun but now that side of things has slowed down in the ladt few weeks it shows how fragile we are . we do actually need a centre back and possibly a keeper .

21 Jan 2017 18:27:07
The team is playing badly since four games running now and still they shouldn't be criticized?
Every one of the players that played today had full one week rest except maybe coutinho. Should they play so lethargically and slow?
Sorry not acceptable.

And yes we do need signings maybe not now but definitely in the summer. People say we are missing mane. But simple stuff is we shouldn't need to have such a massive effect missing one player. We need someone similar.

Youth will have its say when they are ready but they definitely aren't right now.
Also I just hope klopp has second thoughts on the interview he gave yesterday that we don't need a new LB.

We definitely need one if not 2. Milner and Moreno is just NO.
No one's saying spend 100+ million but yes the squad needs refreshing and depth.

21 Jan 2017 18:35:49
It's pretty plain to see that without pace up top (mane) we are a completely different team. Lallana in that position along the top 3 doesn't work and we miss him Terribly in That deeper role.
Our system has changed in recent weeks to accommodate the loss of mane, and it shows.
You mention Rodgers, his downfall came from his change in shape and mind set, so those saying we need to improve the squad are quite right and we need to recruit players who can play klopps system. Or the alternative is that the manager coaches a different system with the players at his disposal.
It's all frustration from the loss, but some points are very valid

21 Jan 2017 18:50:21
Agree with navjot, we need some leaders which we don't have enough of. Henderson is too hit and miss to be a top player and emre has let me down I had great hope for him but he seems useless lately

21 Jan 2017 19:09:03
I would get timid it were a dip in form but it's not. It's several games where we have looked poor. Not just tired here and there but poor and we haven't got the chocolates.

United we let cut us open a few times, and except for some poor finishing we got the draw, and threw away the 3 points
Against Bournemouth we showed our inability to hold onto a lead. We were terrible vs west ham, and struggled vs sunder land. We aren't linking well with Studge, Studge and origi haven't clicked yet and probably won't if we keep operating a false 9.
The team has pretty much dropped the press since Hendo was injured and lallana got pushed further forward. Bobby clearly requires Pipco to operate a 100% several poorly played games without a strong result, for me is indicative of more than a blip

21 Jan 2017 19:15:12
Missing Mane!
But can't help thinking we should settle on a centre back pairing and allow them to develop.

Top 4 is what we should be hoping for this year. Let's be realistic

21 Jan 2017 19:20:52
Yeah we have had our best forward, midfielder and defender out the last few weeks. Still in top 4. Would bite your arm off at that in August.

21 Jan 2017 19:23:42
Not for me nav. Milner is probably one of our best performers this season. Not the fastest but I can not remember anyone doing him with pace. His reading of the game has been very good, would rather see him on the right for his delivery. Clyne just offers nothing going forward, the guy has trouble even with simple passes at times. Defensively he can be suspect, nothing to do with today but he gets caught ball watching, take his pace away and we have a very average play in him.
Keeper I don't think we need replacing, I'd let mings go and I'd be more than happy to let karius and ward fight it out next season. Sure mistakes will happen but they are both young and should learn.

Can is a player I am concerned about.
Not sure if it is lack of confidence or game time. There is something I like about the lad just not sure what it is, and not sure whathis best position is. Not enough quality up the field and the worst timing of jumps for headers I've ever seen this includes Sunday league.

21 Jan 2017 19:32:47
Losing 3-2 at home to Swansea is meant to be criticized. Doesn't mean fans are fickle. When should fans wait to criticize the team? At the end of the season when the team doesn't get a champions league spot?

21 Jan 2017 19:50:39
Lack of proper defending lost us the match not a loss of mane.

21 Jan 2017 19:54:36
Usually you can take at least a couple of positives from a bad performance but this is not one of them times. From start to finish we were terrible. Henderson and Can constantly giving the ball away, Lallana playing out of position and the the shambles that was Clyne, Lovern and Klavan. Seriously annoyed with that result and i don't want to hear " it was a once off result " because we all know it wasn't.

21 Jan 2017 20:43:47
Agree wholeheartedly with the sentiments. However, something has to be done about the defence. When Matip doesn't play the defence panics. Any balls into the box and they panic. Van Dijk seems to be similar to Matip in terms of his ability to read the game. If we can sell Sakho and Lovren I'd buy someone like Van Dijk.
I'd also drop Clyne and Can. Can is having a shocker and Clyne is consistently poor. Get TAA in at right back.

21 Jan 2017 21:17:53
I think that Swansea had a strong game plan, and played to it really well,
so I say, well played Swansea .

21 Jan 2017 21:32:34
I agree with a previous post about the live chat. Yes it was a poor performance and yes people have every right to criticise players and their performance but what annoyed me almost as much as the result was the number of fans calling for klopps head and reminiscing the days of Rafa. I mean seriously? Come on!

What some people seem to be forgetting is that under klopp we've gone from a team that was seriously looking at a possible relegation/ bottom half finish under rogers to a domestic and European cup final in half a season without any significant signings. We've then progressed to a team that prior to today's game were second in the league, top scorers, undefeated at home and still in a cup semi final and FA cup. All this has been achieved with only two major additions in Mane and Matip.

People need to realise and appreciate the progress made we've made in such a short space of time as well as realise that our first team can compete with the best but importantly our squad as a whole still needs work. We've had a number of injuries and absences which has affected our form. This does not mean the manager does not know what he is doing! Only so much can be done in a short space of time and more importantly only so much money can be spent. The last thing we need is another Steven caulker!

And I'm not even going to justify the Rafa remerks with a response!

22 Jan 2017 02:50:04
Sorry redhead 101
Criticise Rodgers all you want after all his spiel but please do not mention him in the same sentence as Kenny.
You seem to forget what Kenny took over from, what he won in his first full season and the way he was off loaded by fsg in favour of Rodgers.

and that doesn't include all he won and done as a player, manager. And a leading campaigner for the 96 WHILE it was still an impossible dream for justice.
Thanks for listening.

25 Jan 2017 02:44:22
Hi Ed
Can you clear up a point of contention with me and my mate.
Is the club carrying much debt?

If so is the club in good financial fettle?

And lastly how is Danny inges injury recovery coming along and will he be fit for next season?
Thanks

{Ed002's Note - (1) Yes and even with the owners writing some debt off the club has a lot. (2) Yes the TV money has seen to that. (3) The club has not provided an updated about him recently.}

25 Jan 2017 15:15:37
Thanks for the reply Ed.
I don't think the first team squad is carrying any dead weight now bar SaKho.
I'd say our wage bill has dropped massively as well but the new stand needs paying for but will pay for itself.
But I'm concerned about the status of our club as not so long ago we could compete with any club in the country for a player but not now we seem to be dropping down the order of clubs to attract players.

{Ed002's Note - How do you expect the stand to pay for itself - and how long do you think that will take?}

25 Jan 2017 23:20:22
Sorry Ed.
I meant the increased revenue from the extra seats in the w new stand and maybe naming rights over the years will cover the cost of construction.

Like Arsenal have done at the Emirates. The increased revenue from the Naming rights and increased corporate and public seating means they are now debt free apparently.

{Ed002's Note - They sold naming rights to the stadium, can generate far more corporate income than Liverpool, have higher priced seats and did not spend on players whilst paying for it. Liverpool are not in that position so the comparison doesn't work.}

21 Jan 2017 17:42:31
Do people not think that Fonte would be a much better CB than both Klavan and Lovren. I think he's a great buy for West Ham.
I would have had him in with Matip and if Matip gets injured again then Lovren.

I know he's oldish but he's playing well and has improved all his playing partners. I'd let Gomez get his strength and fitness back in U-23 and at end end of the season move Klavan on and Gomez in with the hope of Gomez becoming Matip long term partner. Fonte couldn't be worst than what's playing today.

Believable4 Unbelievable7

21 Jan 2017 17:57:35
Should have bought him 3 years ago for £20 mill we splashed on Lovren. Fonte is a short term fix.

21 Jan 2017 17:59:10
I said the same a few days back, especially as Saints were interested in Sakho.

Fonte would provide good cover and would block Gomez given his age. Gives Gomez a season or two to develop and put the injuries behind him.

21 Jan 2017 18:15:21
Matip is now able to play, Klavan is more than good enough to cover. why go and buy someone a few years off retirement? All our defense needs is time together.

21 Jan 2017 19:16:54
We have cover!
Mariposa free to play and we have klaven and gomez.

21 Jan 2017 21:39:05
Share the same opinion on lovren and fonte but he's gone to west ham now. Im sure there are other cbs klopp could get in.

21 Jan 2017 21:55:31
Matip not mariposa!
Stupid spell checkers!

21 Jan 2017 17:26:50
Not good today lads but let's not forget, our first defeat at Anfield for a year. Not had going.

Not quite sure why Klopp didn't start Matip from the off, for me, it would have been the perfect game to ease him back. What do you reckon Ed1?

{Ed001's Note - I don't have time at the moment, flying in the morning tomorrow sorry.}

21 Jan 2017 16:55:24
Basically, as we all know, the team has deficiencies in defence. Also I feel if Coutinho had shot when he had a good chance, instead of trying to play ball back, he might have scored, but they won ball back an went up and scored, could have been 1-1 which might have meant the next few minutes played out differently.

We all know if Sakho wasnt a plonker, he and Matip would be the preferred centre backs, Klavan and Lovren are just too prone to a mistake or lack of concentration, plus I'm not sure the defensive system actually suits them so we need to look at the coaching side of it as well, we've been getting away with it because of the high intensity and high pressure, but when teams set up to absorb it, we know we struggle, and are prone to conceding set from peices and crosses.

Look at it this way, Swansea had three shots on target, scored 3 goals, that just sums up that just like the last 4/ 5 years we just ain't good enough at the back.

21 Jan 2017 17:18:47
Not up to Ed001 standards but I'll give you my thoughts where the problems lay in order of importance:

1. Klavan is not good enough. Clearly Matip should have started and Gomez should now be considered ahead of him too. He is simply too slow with his reactions to everything that doesn't move in a straight line.

2. Lallana is an excellent CM and an average winger. I don't care if Mane's out, Lallana is best serving to the team in CM and should play there. Playing him on the wing takes creativity out of midfield and pace out of the attack. Much like Firmino is best serve to the team up front and should play there. Let other squad members fight for Mane's position.

3. Squad is simply too thin. We don't deal well with injuries. Origi, Sturridge (lost faith he'll ever get back to what he was under klopp), Ojo or whoever else you can think of are several levels below Mane, Coutinho and Firmino. We really struggle without one of these particularly Mane. We badly need to add another pacy goalscorer to the squad. Preferably in Jan if we can manage to get the right player. We really need it.

4. Emre Can is severely out of form. He was terrible today. I'm not a hater. I love him and think he just needs to get his confidence back. I'd certainly take him out of the firing line for a little bit.

5. Clyne broke down more attacks than I can remember and failed to hold up defensively. Poor day at office. Not an immidiate concern but summer I would like to see a top class LB brought with Milner moving to RB. I think Milner would be more fluid in attack on his natural right. Seems a bit awkward on his left sometimes when getting forward.

6. Henderson had an unusual bad game. He has been superb this season but was oddly poor today. Kept missing tackles and some passing errors. Certainly one to forgive. It happens but unfortunately due to his position we need him 100% every game.

7. Lovren was poor today. Multiple faults for the first goal. Needs a good partner alongside him like Matip. Long term I see him as a decent squad player/ 3rd choice.

These were the problems I saw. There were also some positives and I don't want to be a negative ninny.

Firmino: He was unbelievable. That second goal was sensational. He is a different animal up front. Like I mentioned earlier, he has to play there all the time when fit. no matter who is out.

Mignolet: Are we getting a keeper here? Perhaps he could have saved goals 2 and 3 but let's face it, they would have been wonder saves and the issues really came beforehand in defence. His distribution since coming back into the side is getting so much better. I've been impressed. really hope it continues.

Coutinho: If only he had more than Firmino providing movement. His vision is sensational. And he's only just back. What an amazing player. We have to keep him at all costs this summer.

Wijnaldum: I've been impressed with Wijnaldum's defensive work since he came to Liverpool. It was a welcome suprise. He's assist today was top drawer and some impressive long range passing in the first half. I'd like to see him be more positive on the ball because he clearly has it in him. Its coming at a slow rate but with a few tweaks (mainly just be more positive in his ability) I see a top midfielder there. It might not be obvious at the moment but All the skills are there. Intelligence, pace, Stength, Passing, Tackling, even goal scoring (although its not happening for him yet. ) Have the feeling it will all click for him by end of this/ next season.

21 Jan 2017 17:33:12
The fact people STILL refuse to blame Lovren means we will be left behind. He has been WOEFUL all season even in his ''motm'' ( laughable) perofrmance vs united he was extremely poor defensively. calling him 3rd choice is a disaster. He is CONSTANTLY at fault for goals and breakdowns in communication, playinf srtikers onside and playing hospital passes and giving the ballaway, People have been quick to jump on klavan, but he was never meant to be anything but a fill in. Lovren has now had 3 seasons to be in and he's still aking several mistakes in each game that are costing us.

Klopps recent team choices have left a lot to be desired. Lallana is key to our midfield, Can and Gigi clearly struggle to play the same area and neglect the press unless it's clear it's occurring and occupy each others spaces. Lallana is usually the trigger and most players press when he does from the mdifield, it may be worth suggesting captaining him when Jord is out. or pushing the VC onto him, the team clearly look to him from the middle of the park.

I do wonder when people will begin to question recent results, we were told by MANY on here not to worry after Sunderland, Bournemouth, United, does that still hold true now after Swanasea? we keep edging closer to those 6 losses and 34 point markers we can't afford to pass.

21 Jan 2017 18:32:45
Hi Chileanred, Not sure exactly what your expectations of a third choice CB are but generally, CB is not a very rotational position.

If we talk about defensive competencies, I think Lovren rates fairly highly and he would be one of the best 3rd choice CBs in the league. He lacks top pace and has a some issues with concentration (possibly due to lack of competition) but he has been found to forge excellent partnerships when partnered with top class center back in Matip and with Sakho before those issues.

If we were to buy another top class CB to partner Matip as first choice. Any injuries, I'd be more than happy to have Lovren cover. Then We have Gomez battling too and he needs some chances. We will have some level of European competition next season so he'll be needed.

I'm with you we need to improve on Lovren for first choice but he's more than good enough for squad.

Klavan is the one who needs to be sold IMO because his defensive competency is just too low IMO.

21 Jan 2017 19:03:41
Chelsea isn't he yes played 4 at the back would have Terry and cahill, indent even rate cahill butches better than Lovren, spurs have winner, who is better, arsenal have mert who is better, even United's piss poor centre of halves have all looked better. At no point have I really watched Lovren and gone, "that's a centre back I can rely on, now don't get me wrong, I don't expect 3rd choices to be world beaters, but I don't expect them to make several horrific mistakes a game either which is what Lovren is doing. And that is undeniable

For me klavan doesn't even come close to making the mistakes Lovren does, yes he's slow, but his mind is more aware of what's going on around him. zlatan played on Lovren over klavan which tell you all you need to know for me.

21 Jan 2017 19:38:12
Disappointing today boys. Thought we looked sharper in attack than we have in a few games tbh but as usual let ourselves down defensively.

i am a bit gutted especially considering Swansea's recent form but i think we just got to support the boys, title challenge looks a little unrealistic so try our best to keep top four.

21 Jan 2017 20:28:08
I don't really think of it as a case of mistakes per se. All defenders make mistakes, even world class ones. No doubt, Lovrens concentration levels need to be addressed and I think they would be with the added competition.

Lovren's all round defensive game is better than Klavans. I believe Klavan has deficencies that opposing teams would target and over time he would become an more and more of a liability.

Just a note, I'm still saying Lovren comes out of the team. Just not the squad. He has a place for me.

21 Jan 2017 21:24:58
think we should give Swansea a lot of credit, they played really well, and could have scored even more, so instead of being so negative about our team, let's give Swansea some positive thoughts, they just came and went away with 3 points .

22 Jan 2017 13:48:40
They realy didn't play well though. They did what United did, sat wih 6men in the defense, and hoped to scored from long balls and set pieces which we let them. It wasn't any tactical ingenuity, it wasn't paying well. It's not like they sat up at night guessing who to target, what channels to run, movements to make. It was route 1 football

Best signing of 2017? Gerrard appointed as part of the coaching staff in the Academy. One of the best helping to bring young players through and one of the best managing the first team. I am made up for gerrard, made up for the young players and made up for us fans. We have a good structure being put together behind the glitz and glamour and a huge opportunity to start producing stars of the future. A question for Ed1, if you're about. A few seasons back you said that you thought Son HM would be an ideal signing for Liverpool (before he signed for Spurs) . Now he has had time in the EPL, do you still think the same?

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - yes, he has had trouble adjusting to life in England as well as playing in the Premier League, but that wasn't helped by joining Spurs. Not because Spurs are an issue per se, but because of how his chances to play fell to him there. They were playing poorly when he got a run in the team, and he was under immense pressure to deliver goals while not getting the chances to put away.

He would not have had the same issues for us, as we have always had scoring options and creative options to help out, whereas Spurs are incredibly reliant on Kane. Son's confidence was hit. He is not an out and out goalscorer, which is what they needed, so he was the wrong fit for the position they bought. For us, he would have been another option in the front three, to add workrate and trickery, rather than purely goals.

I have my doubts it will work for him at Spurs, as they won't buy the strikers to take the pressure off him. It is not the Levy way!}

21 Jan 2017 10:58:47
Thanks for the reply Ed, interesting to read your comments. I don't watch enough football to observe these things, usually only watch our games and the ones that may have an impact on our position. I think it's easy to assume a player doesn't suit the league rather than not suiting a club. Do you think things would have worked out differently for Depay if he had joined us rather than Utd? Whilst many, probably most were excited about the prospect of him joining us, I think most of us now feel like we dodged a bullet!

{Ed025's Note - hes a screwball super and i think we all dodged one there, you need to watch more footy though mate, why not give the blues a watch and then you can dream of being part of a real club......after all..we are the peoples club.. :)

21 Jan 2017 11:22:07
Broken record

21 Jan 2017 11:17:41
My partner is from a family where there is a healthy reds and blues mix, so whilst she is a red, she always likes to see Everton do well. We do actually watch a fair amount of Everton games, I do have a huge amount of respect for your club, just not enough to want to see you do better than us!

{Ed025's Note - there is nothing wrong with a bit of friendly banter super in fact its healthy, but there is a line and we all have to realize that mate..

21 Jan 2017 11:23:35
Have to agree with Ed025 on this one. The lad was not ready for a big move and he is too immature to deal with it. Also nothing like as good as he thinks he is, so needs to work on his game, which he doesn't do enough of. It was a lucky escape for sure.

21 Jan 2017 11:42:22
Sorry Ed025 but you contradict yourself. First you say he should watch more footy, then you suggest he watch the blues. you're just confusing the lad.

{Ed025's Note - good stuff annie..but dont give up your day job mate.. :)

21 Jan 2017 12:12:13
Well said Ed 25
Banter is what this page is all about. But their are people on here that don't know the meaning of it. Us reds should never mention the lack of trophies over the other side of the park, that is just mean and hurtful. Or that when everton are trying to sign players they have to tell them what city they are in. "Yes we are in Liverpool aswell" almost always followed by "of course we can get your family season tickets to anfield".

{Ed025's Note - totally agree GK but it has to work both ways mate, at the derby there were some vile chants from blues fans that disgusted me, to be honest its the first time i have been ashamed to be associated with the club, i just thank god its a minority of brainless idiots who seem intent on spoiling it for the majority of decent fans who can have a bit of banter without it becoming spiteful and evil, dont get me wrong its not just everton fans mate, maybe its a social problem but whatever it is i wish it would disappear and we could get back to the time when reds and blues walked to the match together and came home the same whatever the result, but maybe thats just me being nostalgic..

20 Jan 2017 22:56:46
Why do people think Klopp doesn't play Lalanna in central mid recently. He has proven to be very effective there with I think 7 goals and 6 assists and some fans putting him up there as a potential player of the year. However he's been quite ineffective on wing I think no goals one assist.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

21 Jan 2017 10:17:18
Mane and cou missing

Played sturridge and moved fir to the wings with lallana.

Should of kept it all th3 same and just had origi come in on the flanks

21 Jan 2017 10:19:55
I don't understand it myself, I think it's to compensate for Mane being away, and finding a way of playing our strongest available 11. I think it would have been better to replace Mane with Ojo and keep everyone else in their strongest positions, but I've never won the Bundesliga so what do I know. there is probably a much better reason for it. But I do miss Lallana playing CM.

21 Jan 2017 10:47:12
I think necessity to be honest: Mane at the AFCON, Coutinho only just returning from injury, Ojo returning from injury and young + inexperienced - who else would we play there? I'd be fine with giving some U23 players the chance but can understand it if Klopp doesn't feel quite as confident.

I agree it's probably out necessity rather than thinking its Llalanas best position, but he also seems to see more in Can than we do.

I think Can has ability but needs to serious speed it up when he's on the ball and he needs to be more mobile in defence so personally I'd rather we played Llalana midfield and played any of Sturridge, Origi, Ojo out wide right.

Hi Eds. I know this is the liverpool page but i have a query which i think is relevant. In recent times we have been over the finances of the new stand as opposed new stadium argument and also the proposed second phase. We have talked of costs and planning permission etc. My query is this. how did Spurs manage to build a new awesome stadium? Are they in debt? What where the costs and who paid? You guys know everything so thought i would ask

{Ed002's Note - Spurs entered in to this process debt-free. They will finance it through naming rights, having 16 (I think) NFL games there, and initial 5 year loans which will cover the development and first couple of years of use before being refinanced.}

Thanks a lot Ed002. what's your knowledge to date on the second phase? Viable . going to happen?

{Ed002's Note - Nothing right now and there is no reason to assume anything will do in the short term. It would be very expensive and the additional income means it takes years to pay off.}

Do you think we'll see Coutinho start today? I hope so, today is an absolute must win and I think we will.

Hoping for a City Spurs draw as well.

I would like to see Lallana back in midfield today with Hendo and Wiji. A front three of Coutinho, Firmino and Studge, with Lallana supporting should see the goals flow again.

I'm with you except I'd go for Can ahead of Wiji. He is much better with the discipline of Henderson next to him, assisting him with his positional awareness. Without Henderson, Can is a bit mindless.
