Evening Ed's. When Aguero goes to City, Baines stays at Everton and Hazard, Mata and Vargas go to other clubs, who will we be rumoured with next?
Tevez?
I'm glad you keep mentioning that there won't be a Marquee signing, it's just a shame that people don't believe you
People should take note of your replies as your "rumours" have all come true so well done and keep up this great site

Alright ED. What are the chances of signing Natxo monreal from Osasuna? He's good at defending which I'm hearing kk would look for. How much do you think he'd cost? And do you think he'd be a good buy?

Thanx in advance {Ed009's Note - I think the player would be relatively cheap. It is only a shame because I do not know of any interest right now. In honesty it has all gone a little quiet, after all we are trying to shift players first.}

Monreal moved to Malaga weeks ago

GH15 {Ed009's Note - my god so he does! I had completely forgotten, thanks for correcting me.}

What a difference a year makes eh ? This time last year Our club was on the brink of collapse.. Is'nt it just brilliant that we can all get excited about signing this player and that player. A huge THANK YOU to NESN for giving us our PRIDE back. In so excited at the prospect of scaring a few teams by running them them all the way to the wire. By the way great site ED's and if your wondering which page to post this comment try the rumours page, because rumour has it We got our groove back. YNWA

Fox - i think if you read the earlier posts in regards to the conversation you replied to then you would realise i was using aguero as an example to pose the question of - why couldnt liverpool afford the wages of a top player, like aguero or sanchez, if they are going to save so much on the wages of fringe players and would make so much more on the shirt sales off a top player thab most of.the.sold fringe players combined? It was not a misguided fantasy but a well delinerated point. It makes sense, when saving money in one asepect surely we can invest elsewhere.

Hi Eds - Just wanted to chip in my pennorth on today's latest anti-ed skirmish...

For me, it's the peerless blend of authentic-looking, in-the-know-style rumours, humorous asides, and obvious mental ward fantasy that makes this site so special and, more importantly, so compellingly addictive.

Any significant censorship (save removing the vitriolic, unappreciative idiots) would cause it to become a pale imitation of its former self, and you'd lose much of the magic, IMHO.

Keep your collective peckers up, Eds (no offence Ed002...)

Please stop with all the Aquilani's agent said this...
Agents say things to get money, it's all they are there for KK has to say he wants him for 2 reasons, 1) he will get little money for him if he says we dotn want him 2) if he says he dont want him, and he stays hes not gunna want to play cos he wont feel wanted GUYYSSS read between the lines, some people dont say what they mean haha.

Peace.

Lyon have told Liverpool that if they want Aly Cissokho then they need to make a bid.

The French giants have confirmed that despite intense speculation, Liverpool have not made an offer for the highly-rated left-back.

The 23-year-old French international has admitted he would like to make the move to England - but a deal does not appear imminent.

Bernard Lacombe, who officially special advisor to president Jean-Michel Aulas, and is one of the power brokers behind the scenes at Lyon, says no offer has been made.

"If Liverpool is attracted in Cissokho, they have to come to us, " he told L'Equipe.

----------------------------------------------------

Looks like there is hope after all then, for them to come out and say that it means we have been in talks but aint bid. so ...

1. we want him.
2. they want him out
3. he wants to move to england
4. they need money, so it could well happen probz around the £9m - £12m mark, good buisness

Evening lads. This iz slightly musty Mr Pissy speaking.

Just has some news from an inside sauce at the club, with the initials HP. It's one that people have been hounding the eds for, and trying to predict for months.

There is a massive do happening this weekend at a senior players house in his garden. The weather for the weekend is predicted to be sh1t, so this player wanted to make sure that his guests are kept warm and dry. My sauce (HP) informed me that he has contacted a marquee company to put up two Massive erections by the start of the weekend.

So there you go boys, theres your marquee signings. Not only one but two, so these will be wrapped up by the end of the weekend because the do finishes on Saturday night.

You heard it here first. No need to thanks me lads, It's my pleasure to break it to you.

Scott78.

I read a post today that stated that Phillip Degen, that marauding right back, we bought in 2008 on a 4 year contract was on upwards of £65,000.

This was a complete lie. It had to be. So on investigation and reading through reams and reams of information, it is believed that this figure is incorrect, as i first thought.

I found a report that showed an increase in wages from July 2008 to August 2008. Now with a trail of reports allowing me to eliminate players like Cavalieri, Keane, Ngog, who were all bought at the same time it leaves £71,000 as a surplus.

This complete waste of money tells us two things. FSG inherited, for want of a better word, a house of horrors. What they thought they were buying was nothing like the real thing.

To think that H&G wanted £800M for a club with assets in such poor condition and costing a fortune was the real sham. How they had the bare faced cheek to even challenge the sale for £300M is the ultimate evidence of sheer greed.

It serves as a reminder to us all, just what an absolute shoddy condition this club was left in. It is akin to FSG buying LFC and then walking in and finding woodworm all through the house, damp on every wall and the foundations listing dangerously, not to mention the fridge, the freezer, the clapped out Ford Escort MKII all hidden in the overgrown garden.

To ask £800M for a club with a stadium that has had very little maintenance undertaken, not fit for purpose (in relation to attendance) and then to have players on the books on sky high wages that their talents do not deserve is scandalous. And whilst on the surface, we may have looked an absolute belter of a purchase (history etc.) I'm beginning to think we have been very, very fortunate that the situation didn't become worse than it actually was.

My second point. What the hell were the club thinking putting the likes of Ngog, Degen, El Zhar, Dossena, Keane, Aquilani, Insua, Pennent, Voronin on wages far higher than they were really worth.

People who were running the club like Parry and Purslow are only now being shown up as the complete and utter buffoons their decision making made them out to be. To actually receive pay off's in the region of millions of pounds for this shambolic performance is nothing short of treason to the club.

It showed that H&G had no leadership, they had no management protocols in place and certainly no governance to check the foolhardy practices going on deep inside Anfield. Parry and Purslow were allowed to squander huge amounts of money, and on the surface we lapped it up believing the club was trying to invest and improve on the field.

It seemed, right up to the Cole, Jovanovic signings, that our only big gun that we could roll out and impress players was the size of their wages. We've been had for mugs. No the lure of LFC didn't attract them, the history, the ground, the trophy cabinet, none of that ever came into the reckoning. They came for the money.

10 months on and the transformation is quite frankly remarkable. But are FSG having us on just like H&G? We fell for H&G's sleight of hand but it didn't take the right people long to become suspicious (around 10 mths whilst everyone else couldn't see it and denied it right up to the end) There is no such rumblings now from the same people.

Just look at the work undertaken by the club. There is genuinely clear and productive policies actively in place. There is a method and a clear plan of what is needed and what is wanted. It's not spend, spend, spend but tight, thoughtful management systems put into place by experienced, knowledgable and committed owners. They have the demands of the fans firmly acknowledged and are actively engaging us on a regular basis.

So this transfer window, there is more work going on than some give credit for. We are having to see money wasted in wages, transfer fees, agent fees before we even look to make a bulging wage bill worse by getting players we want in.

Who in their right minds would want to pay a fee for Degen and attempt to match £71,000 in wages? Why would Degen want to take a pay cut after the club gave him this ridiculous contract? El Zhar is reportedly on £38,000 per week Again i ask you who would even come up with an offer, let alone a wage offer that he would accept?

All this time, we are still running at a loss. We cannot afford to continue like this, yet we are out of the CL and desperately need to get back in it. We need major investment on the field and desperately need to restrict the hemorrhaging of money like wages.

Oh and we need a new stadium, or a re-developed one and we have plans that have cost so far £67M and we need to find £450M for another 15,000 seats. Would you as a new owner like to build a stadium with Hicks' plans? No neither would I.

So when you spout off that we have been very disappointing in the market, just think the owners have made the money available for the players KD thinks we need to get us back into top 4 pronto.

Something has to give and we cannot continue in this vein. I have every confidence the change that is needed will happen. But we need a reality check. This club was in a mess, it still is to a point.

Listening to some fans, it's as if H&G, Parry, Moores, Purslow were never at the club. The damage is all around but still they fail to see.

C'Mon Liverpool Football Club. We will be back. The rest had better be prepared for us because when we hit them, we will hit them hard. Just make sure all the fans are ready.

1 Jul 2011 18:26:11 ed002 do u expect the aquilani dea to go through as a loan or transfer? tanx {Ed009's Note - we believe it will be a permanent transfer.}
--------

What I gathered from my contact in florence is that fiorentina were trying to get a loan to buy deal with the eventual price being 7.5m, they also wanted lfc to pay 40% of aqua wages until deal completed as transfer. It seems as though we rejected this and have settled for smaller transfer fee in place of loan to buy.

Aqua is unwilling to drop his wage demands and fiorentina cannot match his current salary but are negotiating bonuses to boost it should fiorentina make champs league next year. No decision from aqua yet.

Alexis Sanchez to Barca. That makes another overhyped flash-the-pan that Liverpool have missed out on. What the hell is wrong Commoli and Dalglish? Don't they care about shirt sales at all?

Jul 2011 20:18:24 Can anybody explain to me how Alexis Sanchez can be sold to Barca for 26 million euros yet when he was linked to other teams, the figure that had been quoted was figure that had been quoted was nearer the 40 mil mark. This is not the first time this window i have seen this dramatic drop in price for certain clubs. Can anyone explain? the first time this window i have seen this dramatic drop in price for certain clubs. Can anyone explain? Thanks
--------

In regards to this particular player its simple. As soon as sanchez signalled he wanted to leave but only wantes to go to barca it left udinese as the weaker of the three parties as they no longer had the power to either hold out or auction the player ( which is a favourite of pozzo).

Other price tags get inflated when they know of interest from english teams due to the amount of money thrown about by them. Even madrid have been (fairly) frugal this with only coentrao getting an inflated fee and all the new signings on under 60k per week.

Sadly we often get held to ransom by clubs becauae they know we are likely to pay more, we get held to ransom off foreign players often because their preferred league is usually spain and they need some incentive. Hope that helped.

Hey Eds. 1st time poster from Congo. Brilliant site, struggling to keep my hands off my phone.
Cadena Ser say we've put in a last ditch 4mil bid for Jeffren, I certainly hope it's not true. The guy is not good enough... And for left back I hope we get Alvaro Perreira, he is terrific.

21 Jul 2011 20:27:52
Many seem to think that Henderson will be slowly grafted in because of his age. I think he'll make the right wing his as soon as the season begins. I base my opinion on his stats from left year. He's in the top 4 for goal scoring chances created. Although Dirk Kuyt gives 100% every game, he is limited as a winger. Dirk Kuyt is a goal scorer who is better suited on the end of crosses, passes etc.

21 Jul 2011 20:24:56
Following on from Maccas previous comment can any of the Eds please confirm that Gerrards groin is not improving and therefore may force him to sit out a majority of the season if not all of it. {Ed009's Note - all I have to go on at the minute is rumours, sorry.}

Is this a loan move or a permanent deal for Aquilani? {Ed002's Note - We think it is permanent.}
who he going to ed? {Ed009's Note - Fiorentina I believe.}

Wot is the Fee Ed, heard it mite be £7.5m - £9.5m
Fanx Eds {Ed009's Note - It will probably be around 10 million.}

So Defoe would not be happy to warm our bench?
We also have N'Gog who most fans don't rate.
What i want to know is just who is out there who would fit the bill for us (back-up striker).
Cheers for your patience Eds.
Stevie J. {Ed009's Note - I am not so sure anyone will be signed. If we had money to burn a fantastic - and I believe viable - option would be Iker Muniain.}

21 Jul 2011 20:00:18
Hi Ed, how much interest is there from Liverpool on Adam Johnson? please post on rumour site. {Ed009's Note - I have answered this question on rumours very recently. {Ed009's Note - Johnson is unwanted by City and doesn't want to be there. He would, I am sure, be happy to play for Liverpool. Seemingly a perfect fit, but it is important to remember the club's restrictive policy of refusing to sell to anyone that could be construed as a rival. The only thing that should give you hope is Mancini. He has gained power in his position since he secure the FA Cup and a Champions League berth and, provided they sign a replacement winger, there is a chance he will become available. Not much, but perhaps an outside chance.}

Hi Eds and fellow Reds,
Just wondering can I get views on something , should we fail to get rid of the likes of Poulsen, Aqualani, Ngog and Cole before the transfer window ends, can u see them be used primarily used in the cup competitions along with the youth player, in particular the league cup. Just a thought.

My thinking behind it is and I am open correction , players not named in premier league squad can be used in these competitions, so with our primary focus on CL qualification , a squad of players can be used for this and so called deadwood won't be complete dead money and some value obtained from then by giving them game time.

Just in relation to league cup Eds, do you think KK might utilize it like Arsenal and Man Utd to blood youth players like Morgan, Stirling and Susa?

Rebel_Red {Ed009's Note - I think there is a chance they will be used for the early stages of cups. Otherwise I believe they will be left to sit without first team football, in the same way Jovanovic was to the end of last season. I am certain that Kenny cares more about blooding youth than playing overpaid, substandard players who are only here for their bumper pay check.}

21 Jul 2011 19:43:02
He may be getting on now (not sure of his age) but I think wright-Phillips for £4mil would be a good deal
I think we should have bought him and Defoe about 4/5 years ago

21 Jul 2011 19:16:34
Good evening Ed's hope you are alrite. Just a quick question, I don't particularly want the lad but apparently Aguero is taking a pay cut to join city....seems a bit weird for a footballer these days.

Although I heard you say something about image rights, its just that I read something where someone was praising Aguero for not money grabbing, but is it just the case of him finding money elsewhere?

He would no doubt be good at Liverpool, but not only does it not fit into our transfer policy, but I think the players we have bought in are great acquisitions and the team are going to work so hard next year.

Champions League football would be great next year, forget winning the title, lets just try an jel the team and get back to the CL

Thanks a lot Ed's {Ed009's Note - He would make a lot of money through image rights, if City allow him to have that benefit too. I think it is true that, post tax, he will end up with less money than he did in Spain. I do not believe this is out of a newfound sense of worth, but because he has gone too far in wanting to leave to back out now, and no one else is willing to fork out for him.}

21 Jul 2011 19:32:41
After the 4 players we've brought into the club i'm pretty happy with our business so far, but i certainly hate this bit in the middle of the window when there's not much going on, very few rumours, waiting for players to leave, and speculation of more transfers to grow, be glad when the windows nearly closed and it get's exciting again with loads of rumours, although i love this site it seems to be getting a bit dull at the moment, lets hope it picks up again,

21 Jul 2011 19:25:19
I really feel for the Eds over the Aqua stories.The lad said last summer that he wanted to go back to Italy.He went and played 33 games for Juve, Juve where not willing to forfill there agreement to purchase him for agreed price after loan ended.His agent has tried to hawk him to any club in Italy but none will pay his wage demands.If he stays with us then if he plays well i for one will suport him, however i will be amazed if he is still with us for the season ahead.

21 Jul 2011 19:22:48
Hi so Aqualani.....
I am trying to apply some logic to the whole situation. So if his agent has now said what has been quoted, we are now supposed to believe this and not what the eds have been informing us of his wish to go back to Italy. I can understand his agent saying this in terms of trying to keep peace with lfc fans who may for this but any Italian club worth there salt will surely know that he wants back to Italy? Anything you eds know all the top clubs will also know, so why lie? Is it almost a double bluff? Or is there a chance there has been a change of heart? I am indifferent on whether he stays so no need to apologize for offering your opinion, I totally welcome and value it.

i hope marco buena (sorry for spelling) does well in his 10 day trial, cause the more top kids we have, the better we could be in the near future :) i would be happy if we just signed him and Marcell Jansen this summer, i feel our team would be complete then, i know we have been linked with Mata, he would be a brilliant signing and a bonus to are already good squad, but the only way i could see him joining is if Aquilani, Meireles and Cole leave, to reduce are wage bill and provide funds, this seems unlikely now as Aquilani's agent claims Aquilani is staying at Liverpool, anything you would like to add ED? great website by the way, you do a brilliant job :)

I hope we sign some more world-class players for £20 million I think £35 million is cheap for that geordie dude

Ed002 do you think we will offload the deadwood you listed ha many thanks....lfc. {Ed002's Note - You will be pleased to know that Aquilani is all but done I am told.}

Is this a loan move or a permanent deal for Aquilani? {Ed002's Note - We think it is permanent.}
who he going to ed? {Ed009's Note - Fiorentina I believe.}

21 Jul 2011 18:40:38
Aqua has been touted around Italy for over 6 months so if anyone thinks he is fully committed to the pool you need to think again, only thing he is committed to is picking up fat wages.You are correct ed wages is all he is thinking of and why he did not move Fiorentina end of, period. Anyway rant over Up the POOL.

Ed what your opinion of us signing mata after velencia reportedly said he is for sale and what your opinion on the navas story and who do u think may be our left back next season .. ? LFC Hero {Ed009's Note - If I am to be honest I am not so sure that either of those players will don Liverpool red next season - except in their houses when they are dreaming of playing for us, like every other player...}

ed, i keep hearing about someone bieng the marquee signing. has someone said something on a marquee signing that will happen at the club ?

great site :)

21 Jul 2011 18:17:00
Seriously, when will people shut about this marquee signing? Can any of you honestly remember the last marquee signing liverpool made? (not including suarez and a certain blonde spanish traitor) Now does that help you realise that we are not a club that signs huge, we sign good.

Q for macca if possible,

Any news on gerrards injury? Some people say its one that he cannot shake off and will consistenly restrict him to 15-20 games a season.

Any accuracy in this?

Mr E

21 Jul 2011 18:12:21
I had read a couple of days ago that aguero was willing to have the same wages as top earner of the club if he were to transfer to us. Obviously if city come in then you ask for more as they are not a team with as much tradition or history.

Mr E

21 Jul 2011 18:09:02
I wouldn't be too suprised to see lfc bid for either mata or hazard. Despite us getting our no. 1 target in downing, I believe one decent winger is big enough.. We need another surely? Despite Ed 002 saying he doesn't want to move to us (hazard) , for the right price , I believe Lille would sell, and he would come to us happily, seeing as barca and real have done nothing to suggest they are interested. Liverpool is a big enough club to flatter almost any player in the world.

21 Jul 2011 18:07:01
FFS will yez give over about Aguero, it's not happening. Live with it. Also, these ED guys are just ED's, they're not the fkng Oracle Of Delphi, so quit asking stupid questions, and start posting fkn rumours, which is what this site is supposed to be about, NOT 'ask the eds' {Ed009's Note - this is a great rumour in itself.}

21 Jul 2011 18:02:26
Hi Eds, this is my first comment on your site, some interesting and also crazy stuff from some people. Just wanted to say that in terms of left back we don't need anyone. We have flanno, and Johnson who can ay left back and also robbo, insua, and aurelio who are. I think we should be concentrating on a striker as Ngog is just not good enough, he can score a couple of goals but strikers need more than that. Why we are not trying to sign Defoe I don't know as he is proven and would work well in the squad. Thoughts Eds? Keep up the good work. {Ed009's Note - I am certain that Defoe would not be willing to warm Liverpool's bench, any more than he enjoys being kept out of Tottenham's team by Peter Crouch. His wage demands would also be higher than we should pay for a back up striker.}

21 Jul 2011 18:01:28
Ed, do you think the current climate of players demanding ridiculous high wages is a direct result of man city throwing cash around needlessly? Or is it a problem accross the board in all leagues nowadays?

Many people think todays transfers prices are to high. But I personally think it's just the way things go, look at transfer back in the 60's and 70's when people thought £1M was to much for a player.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

And as for rumours, I personally think there may be one or two more players brought in towards the end of august. Also that Joe Cole should be given until january to play to his past potential. I would like to see Miereles stay as well.

Rob {Ed002's Note - Certain leagues pay more than other - England, Russia, Greece, Turkey, Middle East. Manchester City have not helped obviously.}

21 Jul 2011 18:00:49
There would be extra revenue from shirt sales if we signed aguero

Anfield Andy {Ed002's Note - For Adidas. Liverpool do not get the money from shirt sales. Next season it will be for Warrior - that is how the sponsors recover their money.}

21 Jul 2011 17:51:41
Hey Ed's. Personally I don't think we shall see very many more senior players join the squad from now until January.

I do believe we will not sign a LB and make do with what we have up until January, as we may not need one, with Aurelio, the possibility of Insua, Johnson and emerging youth talent.
I think we could well se a CB, not Godin though, as he is a player who would stroll into our starting XI. I think we are looking at players such as Scott Dann, a good, English player who will have a year or two settling in, playing a bit part, covering when injuries occur etc, and then ultimately come in when Carra's fitness majorly decreases/he retires, we should also have the likes of Wilson breaking through having been out on loan and gained valuable experience, I think he is a great potential.
I don't see anymore CM's joining up, and I don't see Aquilani or Meireles leaving, maybe Shelvey or Spearing out on loan though.
I think Maxi and Cole may well stay and provide competition for Downing and Henderson on the wings, at least up until January anyway.
I also believe a young forward will be brought in, for use in cup ties this season, whilst having Kuyt as a backup striker.
I think Kenny may well play a 4-2-3-1 system, using only 1 forward and maybe Suarez on a wing.
Brad.

21 Jul 2011 17:22:42
Stick to champ man, iv just explained how the 350-450k saved on wages by selling our weak links and fringe players would make a move for aguero viable, especially when you consider the extra revenue for shirt sales and merchandise, have.some.ambition will you.

Anfield Andy {Ed002's Note - There is no extra revenue from shirt sales.}

21 Jul 2011 17:02:04
Ed do you know if Liverpool have a buy back clause for Dalla Valle or a first option to buy or something? It was absolute madness from Woy and it will be so so disappointing if he proves to be a real talent and we have no preferential clause. {Ed002's Note - I very much doubt it.}

21 Jul 2011 16:53:23
so happy that aquman is staying now :) he can now prove to us what he can dom guess your source may not have been told the full extent of the matter {Ed002's Note - Yeah, I know nothing. Sorry.}

21 Jul 2011 16:42:44
Looks like Aquilani s staying, maybe the wage talks collapsed. I personally am pleased, if Gerrard is not fit and Suarez a bit fatigue come the start of the season he'll be useful to play in the hole behind Carroll. He can take players on and has good movement.

Maybe something can be sorted out at th end of the window or january.

21 Jul 2011 16:37:41
Eds, how many more summer transfers will take place before the 2011 2012 season kicks off? {Ed002's Note - It is impossible to say when transfers will happen.}

21 Jul 2011 16:18:36
Fed up of people asking about mata now, we all want him but.kenny wanted downing. A while ago the eds on heee agreed that liverpool would not sign any 'agueros' due to wage demands, if we sell.our fringe players then surely the combined wages would cover agueros for.example??

Anfield Andy {Ed002's Note - It will cost £300k (£15M a year - 7% of the total annual turnover of the club) to match Manchester Ciy's offer.}

21 Jul 2011 16:10:32

Which midfielders will remain at Anfield for this season?
Jordan Henderson, C.Adam, Gerrard and Lucas of course will remain.

Jonjo, Spearing, Poulsen, Aquilani, Meireles.

I think Jonjo & Spearing need to be loan.
Poulsen need to let go even if price is lower.
Aquilani is good but want to play in Italy.
Meireles has a good 1st season but KD willing to let go of him.

So, this season LFC mid will be Henderson, C.Adam, Gerrard and Lucas?

Hi eds, just a quick question, have you any info on when the new signings, downing, henderson, doni, etc will be presented at a press conference, seems LFC are showing interviews with henderson and downing, but the only word from doni is through setanta news reports I think, seems LFC may have something against the press, what do you eds?. thx

If aquilani, jovanovic and poulsen were to be shipped out, do you think that would be enough for perhaps a new lb or cb to be brought in? I suspect seen as though we were willing to shell out a considerable sum for jones and yet bought a cb, that the outlaying of transfer fees is not really the issue and it is more a matter of balancing the books on an annual basis, the way a business should be run. Would I be right in guessing that the three players mentioned are probably raking in about £250,000 a week between them? If so it kind of puts into context the need to sell these players on.

Although the transfer fees we have payed this summer seem extortionate to many, I would assume the wages of the new players are considerably lower than many of our first team and probably on a par with a gross number of less than average players. This could surely allow for inflated prices because as a package we would not be necessarily be paying over the odds. Financially I assume downing would have appeared a much more attractive prospect than young. I am guessing, but downing could be on about £50k a week less than young therefore saving us about 2.5 mil a year. Not even sure why I have garbled on so much about a scenario where a player didnt even choose to play for us but just thought it would highlight a pattern with our transfer targets so far this summer.

Sod it lets get rid of the crap and buy a big marquee signing on stupid wages. My brain hurts today, midweek beers was a bad choice.

I know it would never happen but would'nt it of been great to sign and be able to afford Aguero. He is a fantastic player. If he signs for city it will be hard to see past them winning the league. It's going to be a hard season for everyone, we have to make CL minimum requierement.

Don't you just love footballers?

First Doni told Italian newspaper Il Tempo. "But I could not accept those conditions. I would have had my salary cut by 60 per cent."

He added: "After signing a five-year contract extension with Roma in 2008 and having given a knee for Roma's cause, I am unwilling to give away money."

Now- "I was happy at Roma but Liverpool is one of those clubs that when the opportunity to go there comes along you have to take it with both hands.

Well, only if the pay is enough eh Doni? LOL

Hey eds, just wondering if you could clear up a discussion I had with my brother last night. What is the situation with maxi? is he still contracted with us?, I thought his contract ran out and we wouldn't offer him a new contract unless he lowers his demands. Thats the last I heard of it, I know he has been playing in friendlys, so has he signed a short term deal or something?

and as always great site eds , love you guys :P {Ed002's Note - He is contracted to 2013.}

I understand that the manner in which I've been airing my concerns/views regarding matters LFC, particularly Comolli, has been found distasteful by some on here.

My sincere apologies, fellas. I'm not in the least interested in winding up or getting under the skin of anyone.
Just as every other LFC fan, I want what's best for this great club.

I shall at all times from now onwards try to get my views across in a insult-free a manner as possible.
I in turn request that posters on here learn to appreciate the fact that fans are entitled to their views and that everyone at LFC, Kenny included, yes, is fair game; all are subject to scrutiny.

When folk criticise Kenny on a particular point, that doesn't (necessarily) mean they're think they know better than him.
When folk make unfavourable comments about FSG, it don't (necessarily) mean "Yonks Out".

It's merely an opinion, and it should be taken exactly as that.
Unless justified, no one should have their "supportship"/allegiance questioned and dismissed on the basis of their views.

I once wrote here, and I was being genuine, that to me, it doesn't matter if Suarez kisses the badge or not, or says he loves the fans.
So long as he does his job on the field, I'm happy.

Not a surprise, surprise, I got slated for it. Got told that me and LFC "aren't compatible".
For what? For being of the view that a player needn't kiss my club's badge or tell me as fan that he loves me.

This is the sort of bigotry that irks me more than Carra's hoof, or Aurelio's flimsy hamstring.
It's a discredit to our long-standing reputation as the most knowledgeable fans in the game, and indeed, in all sporting codes.

Enough about that.
Ed002, I saw a post from you where you agreed with a poster that Dalglish was rather being economical with the truth when he said we now had to ship out to swoop for.
Were you being your sometimes sarcastic self or serious?

Cause seriously, sir, I'm uneasy about this practice.
What happens with our targets when this selling process drags on throughtout the window, as it's already being doing (Aquilani, Jova, Insua etc)?

Surely we going to lose out. I seriously doubt if selling clubs and the prospect acquisition are going to sit tight waiting for us to clear out, which may or may not happen, or happen quickly enough.
Ed?

Burmeister {Ed002's Note - I was being sarcastic about Dalglish. Liverpool have already bought their primary targets. Players now need to be sold. There may be a couple more to come in but gerally I think the club are set and ready to go even if more players are not bought in.}

{Ed002's Note - I am afraid that Ed001 is not around today so like it or not you are stuck with me giving and answer. I would think two or three more players is likely. I personally would not classify any of the Liverpool players as "deadwood" - and I rather think the club have enough respect for the players not to refer to them in that way as well. It seems to be some of the fans who lack this respect and see the fringe players as "deadwood". The usual suspects of El Zhar, Degen, Insua, Jovanovic and possibly Pacheco may well be considered surplus to requirements. I am not so sure what the club plan for Ayala.}
--

Thanks, and thats why I put deadwood in speechmarks as it is a term which is used by most on here.

21 Jul 2011 13:35:15

21 Jul 2011 13:30:33
Harry will be looking at our squad now and thinking its going to be difficult to finish higher than us if Kenny can get the players working together as a team (which he will). This point and the fact that Modric is looking for "stars" to join Spurs suggests to me that Leavey will sanction Harry to purchase a couple of top players. They could be Rossi, Llorente, Benzema, Turan, Mata, Martinez, Forlan, Corzola etc but I am not sure if any of these players would be interested in joining Spurs If they pulled it off they would have a squad with more top players than ours. Edz and others what do you think, 1) could they pull it off? and 2) would they then have..? {Ed002's Note - It seems rather like fantasy football to me. Spurs want Adebayor but need to sell before they can buy him. The other option they see is a loan but I doubt Manchester City agree. Aside from Mata, the players you have listed seem pretty random to me.}

21 Jul 2011 13:16:31
Would you sell the 29yr old Raul and 27yr old Aquaman + inusa for a combined £23m or so, in order to fund a £30m bid for Mata?

I cannot believe the way players behave towards their contracts and it still does not hugely impact on them financially.
Aquilani was happy to sign for Liverpool take the signing on fee an andd high wages. Ignoring the injury as it is irrelevant, he now does not want to play for LFC and wishes to return to Italy.
Although I realise you cannot keep an unhappy player, if he wants to return to Italy and not fulfil his contract he should submit a transfer request and forgo a cut of the transfer fee/signing on fee. The original signing fee he received from us should be returned. His agent should be asked to reduce his commission and Aquilani should dramatically reduce his salary expectations to make the deal more affordable to prospective clubs.
Why should LFC suffer financially whilst the player maintains his level of earning? The reality is that Aquilani has already made enough money in the game to never have to work again.
Tevez appears to be doing a similar thing at Man City. Is there any other industry this would be allowed to happen in?
Sorry if I am over simplifying this but I would be interested in the views of others.
RedKev {Ed002's Note - Aquilani did not recieve a signing on fee. He has instigated the move and will not be entitled to any part of the transfer fee. It seems most of your concerns have already been addressed.}

Presumably as a tax accountant you are earning over £50K a year NOT a week. I suggest you reread the original post. £50K a week is over £2.5M a year - I think that can rightly be considered living the dream be considered living the dream especially for playing a game Bob
------

I think you missed my point. If your dream is to make money then yes you are living the dream. However these are footballers not bankers or stock brokers and as such their success and dreams are measured by trophies and awards.

No amount of money will compensate a truly ambitious footballer from a lack of trophies. Ask stevie g if his 120k a week makes up for not winning league? Ask giggs if all his money is better than winning a world cup for wales.

Money is a factor but not the driving one. These players dreamed of filling trophy cabinets not bank accounts and as such they only live the dream by achieving this.

The accountant

Ed002... I don't think refering to some Liverpool players as dead wood is a complete lack of respect, how can you possibly show respect for players like Diegen for instance His complete lack of respect to Liverpool Football Club is deserved of the title "dead wood". {Ed002's Note - I am not sure how Degen has demonstrated a "complete lack of respect for Liverpool Football Club". However, I am very certain that the club do not see the fringe players as "dead wood" in the same way as many of the fans.}

To the poster who was slating El Pistelero for being a bit of fighter, just read a nice article on him by lawro, read it and see what you think :-

Suarez is the big one for me. Lots of people have arrived at Liverpool and people have said they remind me of Dalglish . Yet they never were because Kenny was so special. Suarez might just be the closest. He s got all the ability in the world and a real mean streak. He is a top player. I think he might be a bit like Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United. He could just take off and in a couple of years time you might be talking about a £60m player. Kenny s eyes light up when he talks about him. He s got that little bit of everything and when you see goals like he scored at Sunderland last season you ask yourself how s he done that? , which was another trait Dalglish had. He s got great ability. He is very aware of everything, a real team player a handful to play against and, like all South Americans, can really look after himself. Players like Diego Maradona and Carlos Tevez found themselves getting booted on a regular basis but were tough and could give it back. Suarez is the same.

you dig??

Somebody please explain how Nabil El Zhar is earning more than 30k a week?
I watched him last night "captain" a Liverpool XI playing against my local team, Waterford United, and he was shockingly poor. His touch is awful, he has zero positional sense or leadership skills, and looks downright lazy. He's probably paid more per week than the entire Waterford team The sooner the club ships out players like him, the better we'll be. I'd love to know how his agent managed to wrangle such a deal from the Liverpool hierarchy.
Regarding the game, Raheem Sterling played ok, not brilliant, but decent. Suso looked energetic and lively.

Hey Ed(s).. hope ur doing well.. posting after a long time.. what formation do u think liverpool would apply the coming season and who could be regular starters? i think its could be 4-3-3 with lucas gerrard and adams in mid and downing suarez and carrol in attack? or maybe go with a 4-2-3-1? adams and lucas holding suares gerrad and downing inthe three and andy up top? what do u think?

Another thing i want to discuss is that we can only sell one of merelis aqua or spearing.. we need the other two for bench strength.. most probably aqua but merelis should def stay.. hes proved that he is a good player

Thoughts?

If we finished 2nd, 3rd or 4th next year most of us will be over the moon, but... Will kk be happy with that? We seem to forget that the man comes from a period where liverpool played some great football and won many trophies. 2nd place was seen as failure, so has that changed for kk? I think not. We now have a manager who knows how to win trophies on a consistent basis for the first time in 20 years, despite the odd trophy or three under evans, rafa, houllier etc. We never had superstar players back then, but players who were consistent and worked extremely hard for the shirt. Kk is already trying to emulate that and has us playing some good football. Bear in mind manc utd won the title last year not because they were the best, but because they were the least s**te. I for one would not be surprised if we won #19 next season, call me crazy, optimistic, delusional, whatever. But in the king i trust.

Lets be honest if it wasn't for 60% of the posts that are slagged off for being daft this sight would struggle to justify its existence. Let people have their say and yes challenge it if you wish but why not do it with dignity. Look at the way KK is doing his business, with respect and dignity, shouldn't we follow suit?

Hi Eds

Just a thought but IF and I know it's a difficult one but IF Gerrard is struggling to shake this injury off and play a consistant role in our upcoming season, how would you see us playing.? I would of thought that Aquilani would have done enough to earn a shot at playing in his position but I know ideally we are trying to sell him so how in your opinion would you set us up if Gerrard was crocked for a while?

Personally, Midfield I would go

Lucas (DM)
Adam (CM)
Downing (LW)
G Johnson (RW)

I really think Johnson would play well on the right but if not him there is also Kuyt and Henderson so we' re spoilt for choice there really.

Also just finally, do you have any more news on Gerrards injury. I for one was counting on him having a fantastic season for us fingers crossed {Ed002's Note - There is no news on his injury.}

hi all
i want the view of the eds and public on what do they think fifa and uefa will do to stop man city from destroying the game. i know that the fifa fair play will restrict them alot but as we have seen they are willing to go the underhand way to bypass it.
great players are been ruined by their money and lets be realistic.....money turns almost any players head.
i think that the fa will also have to take a stand but we all no how that association works.
your views please.......... {Ed002's Note - They are not by-passing the Fair Play Rules at all. What they have done with the sponsorship is already covered by the rules, so no need to worry there.}

i think people should lay off michael owen. ok , i dont particularly like the guy either(slight understatement), but some of the stuff being said is taking it too far(hatred). jamie carragher has explained some of 'mo's decisions in his book and thats good enough for me. lets be the bigger man , appreciate what he did for us and drop it. booing him at anfield is not right in my opinion.

Morning Ed's, if Lukaka went to Chelsea, do you think Daniel Sturridge would want to leave?

I presume Chelsea would loan him out again, but would the lad want that again. Just thought he might be a good option.

Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks. {Ed002's Note - The two things are not linked at all. If Aguero moved to Liverpool will Suarez want to leave?}

I've just read that Deggan is on 60K a week... I m sure you ll agree; if that is true no wonder Toress and Reina got disillusioned. These players Rafa was forced to get on the cheap because of Hicks and Gillett is simply madness. FSG are better by far the buys since they arrived, at least make sense
Deggen 60k, you are joking

21 Jul 2011 10:22:47
Re Degan and his wagges, if his agent managed to get 60k a week for him if he's British he deserves an MBE for blaggin. Re loyalty amongst players, their was a list put up with a few players on, and as much as i dislike John Terry and what he stands for, i do belive he's been loyal to Chelsea and although on a fat wage packet, especially for a centre half he's been their all his career and been captain since a reasonably young age. Showing his true colours again though buy undermining the new boss only the other day, who's a simular age as Terry by stating he wants to be the Chelsea manager one day. He obviously thinks Villa-Boas is a stop gap while he takes his coaching badges and gets appointed himself. Can see player power taking over at Chelsea again if the new coach isn't deemed upto in the opinion of John and Frank. Here's hoping. Jonson6

Hi Eds, rumours about Janson the German, are gathering pace this morning but I'm not so sure about a new LB, Jack Robinson can fill the role with Aurelio as back up. But if we did have the cash after player sales, Baines would be my preferred Target. Your thoughts please? {Ed002's Note - I suspect you may see Johnson starting at LB.}

If Aquilani wants to move to Italy then he should be prepared to take a wage cut to facilitate the move. It seems Serie A does not have an inflated wage structure to quite the same extent that we do. LFC should make it clear to both the player and other clubs that Aquilani will not be loaned out or sold for less than £10M. We are happy to keep him and play him. If he really wants a move it is up to him to drop his wage demands to make him more attracive to potential buyers.

What ever happened to Sergio Aguero coming to Liverpool because he supports? People need to wake up, there are a small amount of footballers who care about a club these days, maybe players in the lower leagues, or Stevie G and Carra, although Stevie nearly left.....but he didn't so respect there.

But players like Aguero, Tevez, Rooney, Terry are all about the money, I dont want players like that at Liverpool. Both Terry and Rooney were gonna leave there respective clubs purely for money.

So City are welcome to Aguero, can you respect a club who buys there success? Of course you can't, I have absolutely no respect for Chelsea or City.

Man city will sign atleticos best player abd argentinas star of copa america. Before you all say messi was how many goals did messi score? None.

Our best signing this summer is blackpools best player and while he is a good player that's like saying you're the smartest retard.

Kk is not aiming for being champions. The goal is to qualify for champs league and its reflected in our signings. Lower our expectations a bit people you're being unrealistic.

I believe that Suarez is a far better asset to have than Aguero. The main reason is that Suarez wanted to play for Liverpool he plays with a infectious enthusiasm. IMO Aguero is good player but I think his motives are more money orientated - but I guess only time will tell.

I "have it on good authority" ;-) that Liverpool have made their 4th purchase of this transfer window. The object in question is mobile, fast, versatile, and efficient... Yes that's right Liverpool have apparently bought a new coach.

How do I know this (it might not be true but is amusing anyhows); I'm resident in Belgium and went to the local cafe last night, and got talking to some dodgy looking guy. He heard I was English and asked which club I supported. When he heard Liverpool he explained he worked for "Van Hool" (a firm based just outside of the city of Lier) and that his firm had just finished working on a "special" bus for Liverpool FC that was being shipped today. He also said they'd just done one for Manchester, but he didn't know who or what for - I asked if he could do something in the corner of that one for me.

Lier BTW is where the former bluenose canadian dwarf Tomas Radzinski, aged 237, is still applying his "magic" on the wings (think they might even be promoted to first division now).

Ed, how would you rate n'gog to another faster striker such as cameron jerome? Maybe jerome could shine as a backup when he doesn't have to worry about being relagated every week with more players with class behind him. He is english.. all kk seems to care about..., only 25 and probably cheap coming from birmingham. Don't know how good he would be but I'm sick of watching ngog come up short and give his patended "how did I possibly do that" smile every time he manages to score..
He has the kind of pace that can change games when subbed against tired defenders. Don't know if he would be a better option, but ready for us to try something new. Hope kk is too {Ed002's Note - Sorry I can't get involved in comparing players.}

Hi ed002 who? "gets the money for each shirt sold" if not the club{Ed002's Note - The shirt{Ed002's Note - The shirt manufacture get the lions share (hence the reason for Adidas paying £12M a year to Liverpool and the reason why Warrior are taking a chance on paying £25M next season. The retailer takes a small profit of course.} The retailer takes a small profit of course.} cours

Do liverpool only make money on match tickets tv rights and competition prize money ed?

What about other stuff like commemorative memorabilia? Dvds? Etc? Just curious really as if we make little to no money on these things what's point in having them? Doesn't the club own image rights for most players?

Thanks for answering this q.

MrE

{Ed002's Note - TV money provides significant income to the club. Memorabelia etc. provides an income but is produced because the fans want it. Image rights vary but generally are held by the club and provide part of the commerial income.}

Football fans : they have a long period in their lives to support and seach for glory at 1 football club (maybe until 50 years).......Football player(s) : they only have a short period of their lives to play and chase a glory in the highest level (maybe only for 10 or 15 years max) ........So let's give respect to the player who want to leave (and already left) to chase their dreams....because they only have a small time to reach that ....

Were to begin.

Firstly, those worrying that there might not be any more signings and thinking we have to sell to buy, this is not the case, theres money to spend, but FSG have strict rules on wage budgets and reducing that is priority over the next week or 2(this does not mean we arent negotiating to bring players in).
There will be quite a few surprises regarding transfers at LFC yet, 1 or 2 very big surprises.
The only people who know what players are wanted by LFC, are Kenny Dalglish, Damien Comolli, and FSG etc. Anyone else who gives names on theses sort of websites are just speculating.

Now i want to get this of my chest as theres alot of talk about him, AQUILANI, i think it would be very foolish of Liverpool to let him go, imo he has a future at LFC, and comments from Kenny, Comolli, henry(on twitter) and Clarke seem to suggest they think he does to, so would be dissapointing to see him leave this summer.

and if its true Marco Bueno will be having a trial at LFC, good luck to the lad.

As everything has gone dead quiet on Mata, do you think there is a deal in place and will be announced as a LFC layer at the friendly against Valencia??

21 Jul 2011 01:18:37
Spearing will be loaned out to Wolves. Probably Ayala and Shelvey too. Aqua and Cole are staying - we're trying to build a squad and they give us something different from our other midfielders. Mereiles may go if a good offer comes in - but will probably stay also. Ngog is expendable only if an offer comes in - and it's not looking likely. Insua will probably be sold.

We've brought 4 new players in - so don't expect players to leave in droves like people are saying. Our squad couldn't compete last year.

RE: United going backwards with their signings.

Sighs... As far as I was aware all 3 of those players were being spoken about on the Liverpool page. Everybody wanted Jones (except me i think, he's fat and clumsy), everybody wanted Ashley Young (except me as i think any player whos best asset is crossing, but prefers to play in the centre is a greedy moran), and a few people were even saying we should buy De Gea if Reina was sold. If these players had come to Liverpool you'd be claiming they were massive improvements. United have lost 3 defenders they don't need or use, and Jones has come in who will be used, a 35 year old Gerrard wannabe has retired and been replaced with A.Young England international. An ancient and flappy goalkeeper has been replaced with, imo, the best young keeper except maybe Lloris/Hart in the game. United have certainly not gone backwards. We have made more significant strides forward i think, but United have a young team too. Rooney, Hernandez, Nani, Young, Anderson, Fletcher, Rafael, Smalling, Jones, Fabio, De Gea. Personally ifeel that will match most in the league, and still easily finish top four. Add in Giggs, Park, Carrick, Vidic and Evra... Well can you know see your wrong? Arsenal admittedly are a dwindling force and we will probably take their top 4 spot if we finish that high, which i feel we will. Chelsea still have class, although their team really is old. United, City and Liverpool will be the English forces for the next decade. Chelski's sugar daddy is going the wrong way about things, and Wenger is clueless. My predictions for next year:

1st Manchester United
2nd Manchester City
3rd Liverpool
4th Chelsea
5th Arsenal
6th Tottenham
7th Everton
8th Aston Villa

If you want save this post and give me abuse when we win the domestic treble, or admit i was right when United take number 20. Henderson, Downing, Adam, Suarez, Carroll. £100m+ worth of talent. We are on the rise, but United will have to be knocked off their perch because they are not about to fall.

Have I missed something? So many posts about Aqualani going to other English clubs...

Is Aqualiani's problem with Liverpool or England...As far as I am aware, it's England.

Why on earth would he get himself into a contract with another English club when he knows that Liverpool want to sell him and WILL eventually drop their price to clear him off their wage bill....

I find it kind of ironic that about 3 weeks ago I asked the Eds if we had done any scouting in the Mexican Leauge, as there are pleanty of jems there. Lo and behold we are being linked with Bueno. I live in Texas and I gon't know if you can see the games in England, but they never fail to impress. I think if we can sign and nurture Bueno's abilities, he will be way better then Hernandez is for United. This is going to be the way of the future, as they are players well suited for the Prem. They play just as hard, and will be cheaper then their counterparts from other South American countries. I hope this deal goes through as we well may see a future Suarez, or even better.
