Not that I know anything but I am hopeful about this season. I think Milner will be huge for us. Unlike anybody else including Rodgers he knows about winning trophies. He will be at a club where he will be the senior player and I think will relish the responsibility.

So that's me being optimistic

21 Jul 2015 20:41:33
I hope you allow this Eds it's hilarious
Rodgers clearly hasn't forgiven young Raheem.

Y is it so funny? Do you want him to bash someone in public to get into your good books. Grow up mate.
What do you even know what went inside the dressing room? Some people just need a reason to slag BR.

Sorry mate, I thought you were bashing him for no reason. couldn't watch the video in the first place

Apologies mate.

The echo are reporting tonight that radio city are binning off the live commentaries for both Liverpool and Everton games.

Sad times.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - why are they doing that?}

21 Jul 2015 21:11:21
The company that owns radio city (among others) is apparently restructuring the station. The football will now be an hourly slot on Friday and Monday.

Agree1 Disagree1

21 Jul 2015 22:40:38
Should of got rid of pete price instead

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Jul 2015 22:52:48
Radio merseyside will still do the away match every week

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2015 22:22:14
It's the only time I ever listened to the station.
What idiot signed off on this? Lol

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2015 23:12:07
Probably because it's inviable now with live streaming

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2015 23:26:30
Used to love listening to the games on radio city before sky came along, could always get to watch the home games but for the away games it had to be radio city

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2015 20:12:44
All our top rivals have world class goalies - even Spurs. These guys can win up to 15 points a season for their clubs. Could be the difference between finishing 1st and 5th. Southampton and Everton arguably have stronger goalies. Migs is a risk. If he loses confidence again we're screwed. Can't remember when we last had a top quality keeper between the sticks? So surprised FSG haven't addressed this area.

Believable17 Unbelievable6

21 Jul 2015 20:45:26
Reina wasn't too bad.

Agree14 Disagree5

21 Jul 2015 20:47:58
You must have a crap memory reina was a top class keeper even though he was crap in his last two seasons

Agree14 Disagree1

21 Jul 2015 21:39:52
Reina on his worst day was better than Migs.

Agree14 Disagree5

21 Jul 2015 22:38:45
Reina was top quality. As was Jerzy before

Agree3 Disagree6

21 Jul 2015 22:42:26
I dunno remember the derby when he just threw the ball to Andy Johnson

Agree1 Disagree1

21 Jul 2015 22:44:40
reina was class full stop. best since clem

Agree3 Disagree3

21 Jul 2015 21:57:10
Couldn't agree more with the OP. It's a massive massive issue. Being 4th or 5th can come down to a single point and our man's wobbles cost us points every year. So the potential return on a quality keeper is massive.

Agree1 Disagree1

21 Jul 2015 22:18:04
Do u mean the 2 seasons every game the first shot on target was a goal reina was awful for 2 seasons

Agree8 Disagree0

21 Jul 2015 22:32:15
Reina was great especially in the defensive system Rafa played. His last two years were riddled with howlers and poor performances.

Agree2 Disagree1

21 Jul 2015 23:44:32
Big Mac. Your picking one moment mate all keeper make a mistake or two.

Agree2 Disagree2

22 Jul 2015 07:58:30
And I'm not convinced Dudek was that great, except in THAT CL shootout.

Agree3 Disagree1

22 Jul 2015 14:16:01
Did Pepe R not win the golden glove consecutively, he was world class, the only reason he didn't play for spain was Iker was his competiton, any other team he would have walked into internationally!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it was because he wasn't playing in Spain, he was better than Casillas most of his time with us.}

21 Jul 2015 19:27:26
I take it most of you guys play Barclays fantasy football? Any chance you could start a Liverpool rumours league eds?

My main too for this year would be callum Wilson of Bournemouth. Cabaye is a good shout. I've got hendo and Milner in midfield as well as firmino.

Opinions anyone?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I wish I had the time mate.}

21 Jul 2015 20:17:18
There is already one. I gave the code earlier today. check earlier messages.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Reet's league is :- 185726-82458; And someone on Spurs has started one with the code :- 267835-85488.}

21 Jul 2015 21:34:39
I would recommend maybe getting walcott, he's down as a midfielder but i have a hunch that arsenal will utilise him as a striker this season

Agree0 Disagree2

21 Jul 2015 22:47:48
you expect walcott to play consistently jowens560?

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jul 2015 02:14:59
Im not sure, not aure about Willian either

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jul 2015 09:10:39
Matt Richie looks worth a shout

Agree0 Disagree1

22 Jul 2015 11:09:21

Why does Ian Ayre have to be on these pictures with the players?, ya never got stuff like that happening years ago, the back room were where they belonged, in the back
Crackers

Believable6 Unbelievable12

21 Jul 2015 17:53:45
Another unnecessary dig at Ian Ayre. Boring!

Agree17 Disagree2

21 Jul 2015 18:36:00
So what`s your point and in what rule book is it written that IA can`t take pictures with the playing staff?

Agree7 Disagree1

21 Jul 2015 19:21:59
''Why does'', this is a question folks and not a dig by definition. It's a fair question when put into context. It's also an interesting question, when did it become the normality for people other than the manager, or maybe an owner to have their photograph taken with new signings.

I think it is since the 'director of football' age, so mid 2000's maybe a touch before, i can't really think of it being too common, at least in England (Premier League) since then, but would enjoy other people's thoughts and opinions, even early examples that are remembered.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is odd how it has suddenly become the norm.}

21 Jul 2015 22:51:20
think I remember pics of peter robinson with new players when signing ?

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jul 2015 08:39:55
Surely with the likes of firmino was because he was in chile, and rodgers wasnt.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jul 2015 09:04:19
I was putting the question out there, some people on here are way too touchy, and people have a right to question things that happen at the club when we perform like last season, too much glam and faces appearing in things best left alone than getting on with their respective jobs for my liking, I've supported for years and football seems too obsessed with fame and fortune than results right now,
Im not blinded by pre-season knock ups either, the manager has a lot to prove yet

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jul 2015 11:28:23
good question if your into that stuff maybe the manager could not be in the photo for some reason ,but what does it matter really if we have the player we want

I really hope CB will be confirmed today, just so we can move on with a definite team for this season. I know we have a stringent medical regime for added insurances, but LFC don't half drag the signing process out!!

I also think that could be it for ins.

Lambert will prob go, as will Ballo and Borini and Enrique. I have a sneaky feeling Lucas may leave too especially if LFC sign another defensive mid fielder. Sad but could be true!

Believable2 Unbelievable2

21 Jul 2015 16:57:47
We can't give Enrique away

22 Jul 2015 01:07:40

Hi Guys, see below Balotelli tweet from this morning during the City/Roma game. I think the sooner we get this guy out the better.

"Well done @sterling31 ! Best answer 😘. Keep it up."

Shame Mario doesn't follow his own advice.

Agree10 Disagree0

21 Jul 2015 16:53:10
Good god. What an outrage! How dare he be supportive towards a friend! Lynch him. Sell him to Blackpool.

He has absolutely no right to not be bitter like 98% of the Liverpool fans are. He should be going Guy Fawkes style and setting fireworks off in Sterlings house. Not congratulating him a social media.

Agree25 Disagree8

21 Jul 2015 17:20:44
That was one of your best Adam.

Agree6 Disagree2

21 Jul 2015 17:30:34
I would never have said Mario & Raheem were mates from how things looked when they were on the pitch together! Mario absolutely lost it with Raheem every time the pass didn't go to within 1cm of his big toe!

Thinking about that has just brought back the shambles that was the 14/15 season! I need a lie down!

Agree1 Disagree2

21 Jul 2015 18:37:22
Who cares what he says and the last time I checked, he is allowed free speech like everyone else so don`t understand the faux outrage.

Agree6 Disagree1

21 Jul 2015 20:02:47
Sterling completely disrespected the club and engineered a move away in some of the most acrimonious circumstances imaginable - not sure current playing staff, as the move is barely a week old, should be offering encouragement. Nothing about freedom of speech - It just doesn't send out a good message. Then again it is Balotelli, when does he ever do anything but prove he is the ultimate liability?

Agree4 Disagree2

21 Jul 2015 20:37:46
Actually I'd say it's a veiled dig at the fans personally and not what's required from a Liverpool player.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I think it just shows Balotelli is all about Mario and is far too selfish to think about anyone else, because he is a prick. Anyone with a bit of respect for others would have kept their message in private between friends, not publicly doing it like that to cause a response. Mario needs to grow up or sod off anywhere else because he is an utter bell.}

21 Jul 2015 21:02:05
Meh. Our players talk/tweet/facebook/etc about Suarez all the time and he helped get Kenny sacked, bit a couple of players, was deemed to have racially abused another, flirted with Juventus, called the manager a liar, and tried to push through a move to Arsenal including threatening lawsuits yet no one complains about that.

Agree6 Disagree0

21 Jul 2015 21:43:23
RDL

Kenny was poor anyways for the second time. He wasted a lot of money.

Agree2 Disagree7

21 Jul 2015 23:01:16
RDL: Suarez flawed genius( best player in the world imo) Mario is a ballbag. videos of him and sterling ( huck spit) taking that laughing gas while driving home from training? needs a reality check only tweeting about sterling( spit) because everyone forgot he exsists!

Agree0 Disagree2

21 Jul 2015 22:08:34
RDL

your bitterness towards Suarez is mouth watering mate. He has gone for good, we received a big money and wasted down the toilet, He went to Barca and won the treble and history remembers the winners.

Ironically what the team miss today is a player as good as him which isn't available for any money.

Agree0 Disagree4

21 Jul 2015 21:47:53
I see Ed001 still remains undecided about Balotelli.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - sitting on the fence mate.}

21 Jul 2015 22:30:55
What is wrong with Liverpool fans if it was 2010 again would you be happy to sign sterling for £500 k we've made £40 mill profit and had 2 years good service just forget him and move on

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Jul 2015 23:18:05
The ''best answer'' is the bit that has to be taken out of it. What is it the best answer to. The only thing it really insinuates is the criticism he received from the fans or something more toward the manager and Sterling. Either way it poorly worded and wasn't necessary. He could just have written''well done sterling keep it up'' show encouragement, but the best answer part is clearly something more to me.
RDL those 2 scenarios aren't even remotely related.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2015 23:37:50
At last I now understand y Warburtons have named a new loaf after Mario "Thick Cu#t" so out of touch with the expectations of club & fans. I have a cunning plan, maybe we could give Mario away at the first home game to anyone who buys a Cup of Cha and a pasty, sell it as the "Meal Deal"

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jul 2015 01:42:55
I have no bitterness about Suarez, so not due what you're on about. Good player, yes, but like Balotelli is a knob, just in a different way.

Not sure why Suarez gets so much support on here, TBH. We were only ever a stepping stone for him and he had about as much loyalty to the club as Sterling.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jul 2015 05:16:57
RDL

Which loyalty? After and gerrard saying hello.
Loyalty should be equally from both the sides, players and club. Loyalty comes with a price, the price of winning trophies.
No on supports Suarez but the fact we haven't moved an inch forward since he left us.

At times we look like better version of Everton. Selling players because they don't think we are trophy material.

Agree0 Disagree2

21 Jul 2015 15:15:27

"15 goal player every season"

Roughly 18 goals over three seasons for us, but yeah, guaranteed to get 15 every season until he retires.

sarcasm tag

I do think that, eventually, he will prove to be decent value for 50 million pounds, but there's no chance he can do that this season alone, and I still don't think he improves City enough for them to win the title.

Amerigo

Not at all mate, he has a point to prove and would prove it quite easily. He would get enormous chances at that city lineup who creates plenty every matches

He would benefit huge from not being the main player which is Aguero.

We are potentially looking at Sterling - silva - KDB behind Aguero.

He is just 20 years old and has close to 10 good seasons ahead.

I think this year could be the hardest to break into the top 4 of last season since 'the big four'. Chelsea didn't need much, arsenal signing cech is huge, and they may get a striker, city will surely spend (I believe they will be 4th though) but if aguero is fit who knows, sterling will improve them (I know that is an unpopular opinion in the angry reds fans) and United have bought well so far, just need a cd and cb for me.
Us, our season depends on goals and defending, could score loads and concede loads again, but I believe we are 5th favourites for top 4 at the moment. I imagine the settling of benteke and firmino will be a big factor.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

21 Jul 2015 16:06:42
I think the squad is the best we've had for a while. Suarez was like having Ronaldo or Messi and Gerrard when at his peak we had a good team, but this current squad has quality and cover in all areas. I'm basing this on Mignolet continued improvement and last seasons signings settled in.

Chelsea again the team to beat. But Arsenal and Utd have a strong 11 they both can look just ok if a couple of key injuries.

Not sure on City. Made some good signings, but for me Kompany and Mangala looked poor a lot of last season, Yaya and Nasri looking like they're both dipping.

Window still open, but if it ended today with Benteke in, then I'd say we should be 3rd at least maybe 2nd. But then saying that I think this every season (secretly title winners) I'm optimistic not just our squad and it's depth but the info I'm seeing on the new coaching staff gives me confidence.

Agree5 Disagree2

21 Jul 2015 17:16:12
It's down to City and United to cock up if we are to get top 4, so far it's looking pretty good for us I would say. Still think Madrid will pinch De Gea and that will significantly weaken them. City signings Delph and Sterling who are both good but neither are improving their XI in my opinion.

21 Jul 2015 14:10:20
Hi Ed001, saw you posted earlier comparing Stan Collymore and Balotelli. I had quite the debate about Collymore with a friend the other day and I'm just wondering what your opinion of him is as a player and a pundit (if you listen to him at all)?

Believable6 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he is a piece of *censored* as a person, an awful pundit and he was one of the most talented players to ever play the game, yet he could not be bothered to use his talent. Horrible man who should be locked up, not given a platform to voice his imbecilic attempts at punditry.}

21 Jul 2015 15:03:26
Excellent, you would have been on my side in the debate then!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I think you would have no trouble in getting backing for that particular debate from anyone connected with Liverpool. He showed fantastic ability at Forest, but it went to waste. He used to phone up to say he wasn't coming to training as he was caught on traffic on the motorway from his bed because he couldn't be arsed to get out of bed. One of the conditions of him signing was that he would move nearer but he just refused to move home.}

21 Jul 2015 16:17:07
Wow. With that info it seems baffling that he can sit on his high horse with so many points in his punditry.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he sits on his high horse because he is a moron who blames everyone else.}

21 Jul 2015 21:51:31
I see Ed001 remains as equally undecided about Collymore as he does about Balotelli LOL)

Have I missed something - have LFC signed Juves chief scout ?

Believable0 Unbelievable4

21 Jul 2015 13:12:34
Hi Eds,

Not sure if you are able to help with this at all,
My son is due to be born at the end of september/October so wanted to kind of get a gift that he will appreciate when he's slightly older so the idea was to get our home shirt with his name and number 8 on the back and try and get the squad to sign the shirt with a small note of some kind.

I know its a massive ask but determined to get it somehow before he's born - Tried the Liverpool store but no reply from them so any way you can help with this or any thoughts of trying to achieve this?

Thanks

{Ed001's Note - the best way would be to take it up to Melwood and wait for the players leaving after training, or do the same at Anfield after a game. The club's PR department would normally be a good place to try and get in touch with to ask, if you couldn't do either of those, but Liverpool's whole set up is inept, so that might be a waste of time. The best way is really after training or after a match to be honest.

I don't want to rain on your parade mate, but is it a present for him or for you? What if he doesn't like football or God forbid support another team? Even if not, wouldn't he prefer a shirt with signature of players of his generation? I mean if you got a signature of Gerrad it could be worth something but a lot of the current IFC squad can be pretty anonymous in 10 years.

In any case good luck with that. If you wait after the training and ask them to sign you can succeed. if you try the PR department I assume they may have more urgent requests.

And also good luck with the birth.

@Fanobip - More for him would like to get it framed and up on the wall pal from the time he was born - Would of loved to have something like that since I was a child - I understand there are only certain players who will of course be remembered as liverpool players but would still be good to show and don't think he will have the option of supporting another team lol but thanks for the comment mate.

@Ron Keague - Thanks for the reply, Would be great if you could help in some way and would be massive help - As I said to Eds it seems the impossible task but really determined to get it somehow for him - Let me know what you need from me or Eds could put us in touch somehow? I know they were looking at a loan for him and obviously he hasn't signed a new contract yet and only has one year to run, do you know any more about the possibility of him signing and what is holding it up?
Would be devastated to lose him, has always looked a real talent at every level
Cheers

{Ed001's Note - he is worried about his future, with us adding 3 new strikers to the squad this season. I think we might well have lost this one because of it.}

can see his point to be fair, just do not understand the signing of ings at all. I think he is a decent player and I am sure that given the right opportunities he would be a success at liverpool, but if the club knew we had sturrdige, benteke ahead of him, lambert there behind these two and the option of keeping either of borini or balotelli and still having origi, sinclair, ojo and ibe in the ranks I just don't understand why we brought him in. Do you see any possibility of him staying or do we just have to accept he has made up his mind and move on?

Currently Liverpool have 7 Strikers in Sturridge, Ings, Benteke (imminent), Origi, Borini, Lambert, Balotelli. Don't you think its a bad strategy of just buying without selling. Potential suitors of Balotelli, Borini and Lambert know we have to sell them at any price.
PKMLFC

Believable3 Unbelievable1

21 Jul 2015 12:56:44
well pk the eds have said selling is the next phase, and with sturridge out for the next three months, borini possibly going to lazio, lambert possibly to wba and ballotelli loan possibly to foirentina that makes lfc starting the season with three fit first team strikers not including the little guys who could possibly play there does that make you feel better.

Hi Ed's.

With Benteke's imminent arrival, I know the focus is now going to be on clearing out the squad, with Balotelli being one of the prime candidates for moving on.

Just wondering what your opinion is on how much of his failure last season was down to his own attitude and how much was down to how BR played him?

I know I am probably in a minority here, but can't help thinking that Balotelli isn't beyond redemption if played properly.

I am sorry and I don't mean any offence but I just don't get all this love for Sakho from what I have watched he is a liability he looks so awkward on the ball only ever plays 5yard passes and is awful in the air proper 50p head I think sometimes on here what ever the eds say people jump on it, if ed02 said balo was brilliant and he wants him to stay I bet there was be loads of posts saying always like balo and want him to stay!!!

Believable4 Unbelievable12

{Ed001's Note - you sure you aren't just getting your opinions from the media?}

21 Jul 2015 13:04:10
Sakho is strong, fast, competes well in the air, good positionally and is the only centre back we have capable of bringing the ball out of defence and playing a proper pass. His arms do go up when he has the ball and gives him an awkward, leggy look but if you base how you rate players on looks then you need a different sport

Agree11 Disagree1

21 Jul 2015 13:35:52
I don't remember the eds praise him a lot. It is just that iff you saw all our games past year I don't understand how you are not impressed with him. For me he was our best defender. Very clean game, very accurate passer including some very long passes, inteligent play, and although he doesn't look very quick or at first look doesn't look comfortable with the ball he lost the ball very rarely last season.

I agree that there is somethign in his movement with the ball that if you didn't see a lot of him playing may make you think initially he is not a natural defender but if you watch him a lot for me he is a very good defender.

If there are views here which may be affected by the eds about our defenders is the dislike for Skertl and blaming him for 90 percent of our defensive problems last year even though I think he had many very decent performances and personally am very happy he is staying.

Jay, you aren`t the only one who`s played the game because many of us have so that proves NOTHING about your knowledge og the game because clearly, the fact that you think Sahko, the closest thing we`ve had since Agger in terms of skill, ability and passing accuracy from the back, is not good enough shows how much you know about the game.

Word up, you call Sahko a car crash and average. You must be mixing him up with the other guy who can`t communicate to save his life and who just runs around making rash challenges w/o knowing where hi other defenders are. You think average CB`s play for France and is capt of Les Bleus? How did you come to that conclusion? because he gives the ball away atimes due mainly to mids not showing up for a pass? Who hasn`t given the ball away in games? You are right that there is a true car crash within our CB`s and hint, his name is neither Sahko, Toure, Ilori or even Lovren (who i think can be good if he just calms down and plays his game the way we know he can), IMO. I suggest you watch more of Sahko instead of just watching a game with your eyes wide shut.

I know torres was a goaly in his youth, but I can't think of anyone over 23 or so who moved positions and excelled. Maybe schweinsteiger from rm to cm? But again that's not too uncommon as a player gains experience.

One for Ed001 - Paul Stewart was initially a striker and then he moved to central midfield and 'excelled'. :-)

{Ed001's Note - Paul Stewart could have played anywhere and still you would have been wondering 'what position is he playing?', he was just that skilled. Yaya Toure was considered a top DM when travelling from club to club in Europe, ended up at centreback at Barca before than going on to play a box to box (attacking minded mid) at City where he did rather well.
Ledley king originally started as a striker from interviews I've seen surrounding his playing ability before moving to centreback (probs due to his injuries) Demba Ba when trying out at teams inf rance started as a centreback before he was told to play up top.
Thierry as we all know started as a winger before Arsene made him a centre forward. Milner is pretty adaptable from winger to centreforward to midfield throughout his career.
Many others have already mentioned Bale and Dublin.

Here's a first crack.

Gomez looks a fantastic addition given his age and price - although it's only pre-season and against weaker opposition, he's looked really solid, composed on the ball and quick too. Might even take LB starting spot based on his performances so far!

Milner has been outstanding in midfield, energy all over the park breaking down play in defence, driving forward in attack, bossing the opposition and guiding the younger members of the squad. Looks a real leader and think he's going to be killer addition this year.

Ings has been solid and done well, he's had a few moments of genuine quality and took his debut goal well, but at time's it's looked like he's still getting used to playing with the new team. I expect things will only get better.

Origi started really well against the Thai's and got a great goal. While he also looked useful at times against the Aussies, he also looked a bit raw and his runs weren't always the best. He's clearly talented and has the physical attributes needed, but not quite the finished article yet IMO and Ings would look the more "ready" in my opinion.

Clyne looks like like a really big addition to the side - looks to be the RB we've been lacking forever! Solid in defence, linking well with the RW in attack, with clever give and go's (particularly teamed up well with Ibe).

Also worth noting Teixera and Markovic played really well against the Thai's for what it's worth. Teixera looked like a clone of Coutinho at times.

In short, a great start and Clyne/Milner look ready made for the first team, with Gomez and Ings challenging and Origi more likely one for the cup games/the future.

Hi eds great work as always. just a quick one may be silly but do u think the huge ground work that has gone into signing the likes of milner coutino n benteke who are in my opinion the managers choices would of been in the thinking from the owners when keeping br in a job this summer. rather than a starting for scratch again. does feel like a last throw of the dice by all involved tho. I just hope it works. ynwa

Well, Its his job to loose and I pretty much expect us to get into top4 with that mammooth squad we have with us.
A new manager would come up with his own shopping list and it would be another major transition which a club like livepool in debt cannot afford. I could see BR keeping his job for a long long time.

He just need to use the players wise rather than his own Philosophy which He would this season.

Agree3 Disagree6

21 Jul 2015 11:19:37
European,
So what makes you think he will use the players wisely?
What makes you think he will play players in their best position and not his idea of their best position.
Why do you think it will be different this year?

I really hope he has learned but I saw NOTHING right up to the last game of last season to make me think he will change.

I think we had a great squad last season and we should have gotten top four but for the managers tinkering and tactics. This season I believe we are even better but will he sell or loan Sakho? Will he play Allen instead of Lucas? Will he play Benteke seeing as he preferred a tiny winger up front last season instead of giving runs to Lambert, Borini Ballo or trying two up front.

I don't worry about the squad, to be honest I'm worried about Brendan Rogers, though that's just my opinion.

Coz when your are under pressure to perform and losing your job, you would shedd your ego and arrogance and grind out to get the targets.

It's human nature. He has a vast squad at his disposal and he could pick anyone from it.
It's just the correct personal at the position he is trying in friendlies.

He knows, once you are sacked from a big club with a tagline of looser, you are unemployed for a long long time unless you take a job in turkey or Russia.

I expect another player to come in above what we have and we'll have one hell of a squad.

Mcgoveb,

I am not sure, he would change a lot to please you or many here, He has a squad whiich is enought to secure a top4 finish and he would achieve it. Simple.

Top 4 means Money. Money means Happiness in US.

Why did he buy Benteke, when he has never playd that system? Y do you support buying Benteke?

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2015 18:59:25
European,
According to most he was going to be sacked if he didn't challenge for the league and put up a great run in the UCL.
He didn't do either so neck was on the line and still picked the wrong players in the wrong positions with the wrong tactics so your argument on neck on the line doesn't seem to stand up?

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2015 08:41:13
I really don't like these Sakkho to Lazio rumurs especially as they suggest the player himself is interested to move as he s worried he will not be a guarnteed starter. I really hope BR talks to him and explain he is safe in our starting line up as I think he should be. For most of last season he was our best defender IMO. In addition to defending well he is also fantastik with releasing the ball forward, very acurate, very elegant passer of the ball, albeit, sometimes a bit too much confident with the ball and live dangerously. Way better than Toure for me.

I mean if someone would offer lots of money for him I could maybe understand, but loaning him? one or two injuries and we our out of defenders.

It was Moreno a couple of days before, Tomorrw it would be Countinho. All paper nonsense.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Jul 2015 09:44:37
We have a lot of defenders on paper yes but if 2-3 of them are injured/banned, you will have to base your defence on something like Lovren, Toure, Enrique and one of the youngsters. Good luck with that when you play against one of the top PL teams. We will have both Europa league and PL so you need 6-7 decent experienced defenders IMO. Anyway, it looks like a lost caouse this one. If Sakkho wants to go and BR doesn't rate him, not much to do about it. For me it is a big mistake. I am far from being convinced about Lovren especially in terms of releasing the ball forward under pressure. And my guess is that eventually Can will play most of this season as a defender again.

The problem with player like Milner and VIdal are they are straight forward players, Managers fav players, You ask them to do a job and they would do it whole day.
I call them Programmed Footballers / Professionals.
So in modern day football we call them B2B midfeiders or Ball winning Players. Physical Presence in both the boxes.

They ain't creative. For example, Turn with the ball when you rrecieve it from the defender, Heads up and pick the runner ahead of him, out in th flanks or those little pockets, Theya are called Creative Midfeidelrs,

These players wouolnt need a route map to perform, They do it on their own, Just occupy the position as desctibed by the Manager.

Countinho is the prime example, All he needs is space and then he is own is hiw own.

Our Midfielders in Henderson, Milner and Can are static.

Just My opinion.

Agree2 Disagree10

21 Jul 2015 09:37:11
How do you define the signing of the season? And how do you define whether a defender is better than a midfielder or a striker when each of these roles focusses on different aspects?

I will give you that our cheapest signings (transfer fee alone) have the biggest opputunity to shine, and we have already seen that they have played well so far - Milner, Ings and Gomez

Then we have Firmino, who I believe, will be one of the best nr. 10 in the world, and I would think that he would hit the ground running. We overpaid for this guy, mainly to make sure that rivals wouldn´t get him, but also because of the potential he got.

Then there´s Benteke, and I still believe that we are paying twice as much as he is worth, and he would have massive expectations to live up to - People will expect him to score goals right away, and if he doesn´t then he might struggle in the same way Carroll did.

Agree0 Disagree3

21 Jul 2015 09:52:26
Firmino I believe would be the best player next season. The lad could dribble the whole opposition and that's exaclty the Brazilians do. Look at their International squad, from Neymar to Willian they are damm skillful.

Firmino would be the best Overpaid player we have bought ever.

You really don't think Henderson, Milner and Can are creative? I think for sure Hendo and Milner are, and I haven't seen too much of Can in CM but I think he will be too.

I definitely wouldn't call them static players. You need players that will do the job they are told to do. Especially when we have the likes of Coutinho, Lallana and Firmino (to name a few).

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Jul 2015 11:00:19
European Glory or ScouserHarry or whatever you´re called, how can you say that Henderson, Milner and Can are static? They might not be the most creative players, but not every player on the pitch needs to be creative. Henderson and Milner will operate mainly as Box-to-Box midfielders, and they don´t need to be imensely creative (they got Lallana, Coutinho and Firmino in front of them), as long as they are good at making the right decisions and have a decent overview of the game (there are also other important aspects). I was quite surprised by Hendersons Rabona assist to Lallana, and don´t forget his hollywood passes.

I will though agree with your oppionion regarding Firmino, I see some of Suarez qualities in this lad.

I kind of have a feeling skrtel may not be as bad this year. I think he needs to worry less about organising the defence, and hopefully sakho and mignolet help do this, so he can concentrate on himself more. If he trusts his back line more, which will come with good performances (if any) and that will lead him to stay with his man more, and not try to cover when it's not needed.
I always think he is aggressive against players he can beat, but when a player stronger than him comes up, he loses his ability to win headers, gets tight, but doesn't challenge well. When a speedy player comes up against him, he doesn't get close enough, or dives in early and gets beat.
If he got tight to a quick player, didn't dive in, he should be able to force them backwards, or pass it on. If he gave the big men a little space, and attacked the ball early, he will win more headers before the attacker has leaped. This is what I was taught from a young age, but all I can picture with skrtel is him getting beat by aguero on the left wing in the 3-2 two seasons ago and benteke bullying him.
Oh and a few bullet headers he's scored, early jumps with a run up, unstoppable in the air.
The only time I've seen him aggressive enough against a big man is Costa. But then again henderson scared him so maybe that's not impressive.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

21 Jul 2015 08:48:18
Is concentrating on himself not the problem? As in he doesn't give any consideration to letting his team mates, and his CB partner mainly, know where he is going and what he is going to do.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Jul 2015 09:14:20
I think we will see the same Skrtel that we always see. I noticed during last nights game that Skrtel was asking and directing all his fellow defenders to push up and keep a line while he simultaneously dropped about 2 metres behind all of them. Its crazy stuff.

{Ed001's Note - for his coaching, we needed more coaches so players can get more individual focus from them.}

21 Jul 2015 07:02:16
Here is my 2 pence worth.

We have recruited players pretty much every year that have a preverbial poor first season, but then come of age and become regulars in the side and done pretty well. For example Lucas, Henderson, Bjornebye, John Scales, John Barnes, Nicky Tanner(arguably didn't improve). and plenty more. This sort of gives me confidence in the likes of our current second season crop. Lallana, Markovic, Lovren, Moreno I hope can use the foundation of last years experience to drive on this season. I do believe they have quality in them and fingers crossed we can witness that very soon!! I also think Continho, Henderson and Sturridge once fit will get better and better!

Believable3 Unbelievable1

21 Jul 2015 07:50:33
Not sure about your examples: Barnes was a legend from day 1. Scales Tanner and Stig were never good enough.

I agree with the sentiment though.

{Ed001's Note - Scales? I seem to remember him being good, but injured a lot. He left us to join Spurs because back then it was the only way to get in the England squad, how times have changed! It was injuries that stopped him there as well. I defo agree on your judgement of the other 3 though.}

21 Jul 2015 06:35:26
A question to Ed 001, Marsh and Pascoe being gone, I was wondering what happened to Achterberg. Is his position safe? You said something earlier about him not working out at the club. Thanks for your time.

I ask purely because I haven't seen much of him besides you tube clips! Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he has always been injured whenever I watch Dortmund or Germany play, so I can't give an opinion on him.}

21 Jul 2015 06:58:47
I'm a pretty big reus fan and actually have watched a lot (well 15-20 games a season) of Dortmund over the last 2-3 years so I'll try give a opinion. He's a little bit hit and miss tbh over the last 18 months although it could be because of the all the injuries he's had. On his day he's just incredible he can dribble like messi sprint like bale finish like ronaldo and is quite strong. Then there are other days when you can still see the talent but you kind of just think not quite. Kind of like if you watch ibe for Liverpool atm where you're like you're so close to just being simply wonderful.

He is a special player who really has it all in his locker and could do special things but I think he's making a mistake not moving this summer. I think he's ready to be at one of the elite sides and deserves to be playing in the cl. If bale leaves Madrid I would imagine he would be high on their list of targets. Tbh this was just a feeling I had before the summer but I thought Chelsea might become interested purely because they don't have a top player playing opposite hazard and alternate between Willian, Oscar Salah etc. And I thought if you slotted reus in there that Chelsea would have a comparable front 3 to Barcelona and Madrid.
