i'd say the signings mentioned are no more likely than a paper delivery boy knowing more about LFC's targets than the likes of Macca and the eds!

except for Doumbia, none of those mentioned are worth having. especially Bendtner... he's "pants" !

Doumbia. you serious ?

The first poster please refrain from posting in the future. I just wasted ten seconds of my life on reading your mid life crisis

Nani 100% being frozen out at Man Utd, Howard Webb just booked him!!

Very good

Ciario

No webb just got a transfer to anzhi even
scum couldn't match the wages!

Lil red

Ha, ha.
Love it.
Webb has 'webbed feet', think Sir Alex will be on the phone to complain, just as soon as he puts his bottle of whisky down!.

It's Webb that'll be in the s**t.
It'll either be a fine for bringing ManU into disrepute, or the docking of a weeks wages when he returns to Carrington for pre-season.

Help me out please. Could Rangers apply for a place in the English league as a consequence of the recent mis_fortune? If they could, then surely now is their chance. I've been thinking that the government would welcome such a move as a political weapon against the independence vote. Just a thought.

DaveyBootle"

I asked this the other day because I sense a big change. The Scottish league is now finished. I appreciate that this is not an issue related to Liverpool yet the club are being linked with Bury of some sorts. Personally I find this fascinating. Anyone anymore info or thoughts regarding this? Cheers lids.

DaveyBootle

Personally I don't think it can ever be allowed to happen. Can you imagine other Scottish teams over spending and running themselves badly whilst thinking "if it all goes tits up we'll be ok cos we can start again in England, which is probably a better option".

Chris in Tamworth

I have been following this story on the rangers board, if it happens you have to feel for the local bury fans watching their team being moved up to ibrox and gaining x amount of Scottish supporters and having a joint history, I can't see it working
The only way forward for them is to start off from the Scottish 3rd division and rebuild the club debt free, be interesting to see how sky react to rangers not being in the SPL, the old firm game must generate a lot of revenue so without that match I can see them pulling out and Setanta sport taking over paying half of what sky are which will affect the whole league

Kris YNWA..

I think there is nothing in the rules to stop them joining an English league but it would have to be at a low level and could they do that for 5 years before reaching the prem?

So its highly unlikely

Pardoe

Why would you want rngers fans anywhere near our league ?

Football is one of those things that can transcend politics. But even so, I can't imagine any Scottish-owned clubs would relish joining the English league. Unless a name-change is on the cards...
How about: The Pacific Isles Football Association? PIFA. Catchy, eh?

M.D.

I was of the understanding that the concern from the Brittish FAs was around being forced to field a GB permanently should the FAs combine into a single league. Maybe with the change to the GB team in the Olympics will change the way forward anyway? Personally I have no prefence either way, as an Aussie, however if the result was greater revenue streams for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and therefore sustaining their clubs then maybe that is the best way forward.

HI all.

Now this isn't a slight against the rest of the Eds, But i just want to say cheers to Ed005. You really get involved in the discussions, offering your own opinions and thorough explanations of what you expect or would hope for from the club. Not every Ed does it. Ed002 for example doesn't but we all love him/her for his amazing retorts. And Ed001 responds to pretty much everyone with 'mate' even if they are being a **** to him/her.

what I'm saying is thanks. {Ed005's Note - Thanks mate I try my best. All the eds are nice blokes we all just have different personalities.}

All the eds are nice BLOKES? Hmmm.. You implying that ed002 is definetly a bloke?

Myk {Ed005's Note - You may well have interpreted correctly.}

I couldn't agree more with this post. ED005 you are in my book, the bees knees. ED002 needs to go to the Chelsea page and stay their. That's not me being nasty that's just my opinion.

Elmo96

Can I ask ed, you say all the eds are nice "blokes", but is ed002 a chick or a dude?

Muchas Gracias

Hi Eds & Reds,

Just want to get your opinion on something, I can see a lot of people disagreeing with me here, but, IF and I mean IF we were to sell one of Agger and Skrtel this summer, I'd rather sell Agger, I am not denying in anyway his class, but if we say we got offered 15-20 million for him, I'd snap at it. Now let me explain myself, he has been here for nearly 6 years and effectively because of injury has only played about 50 % of the games he should have. With Skrtel, he consistantly plays about 30 league matches a season while Agger has played about 15/20 a season.

I read Agger says he's happy at the club and wouldnt wind a new deal with contract expiring in 2 years time, I think he'll be given this season to prove his fitness.

As I said, the lad is class, but from a gametime point of view if you get 15/20 million for unfortunately, an injury prone player, i'd call that good business.

Idically, I wont both of them to stay, injuries aside I think they could form a fantatic partnership for years to come.

As I said, it only my opinion, what do Eds & fellow Reds think?

{Ed005's Note - First of all, don't sign off as what you are signing off as because we've received complaints about it and are fed up with them and despite deleting it once or twice you persist. First and last time I'm saying this mate. And I think Agger did well to play 27 league games last season - one thing which didn't help him over the years was Rafa Benitez and his awful medical team who made several muck ups with players like Torres and his hamstrings. I would keep Agger over Skrtel personally as I think Skrtel is exposed without someone like Agger beside him. That's just my opinion though.}

Sorry Ed005, the reason I chose the sign off name is because I am from Cork, and a LFC, first part is nickname for Cork County and second for been a LFC fan,I am sorry if i have caused offence, but I have been posting under that name here for last couple of years

RR {Ed005's Note - I didn't see anything wrong personally mate but once one or two complain about it we face a problem and a lot of work to edit it. Continue to post by all means mate I always enjoy reading your posts as they are constructive and you contribute very well all the time (even though I disagree with some things) but a nice debate is good. Don't be put off.}

Sorry again Ed005, but this actually i ve heard of this been a problem, genuinely, can i use R_R instead? {Ed005's Note - Yea whatever you wish mate.}

Cheers Eds005, as i said apologies for any offense caused.Love the site and a good debate.

Er, let's keep them both. They are excellent, and we have Kely and Coates as back up. Simples.

What's the story guys, I'm just back from the euros and been living out the back of a transit so had no Internet. Came back and went straight onto this only to find all this talk bout Suarez leaving, tried the search engine but could find the source or reason to this reason, could somebody please bring me up to speed.

Cheers

Basically some of the posters and eds think Suarez is leaving. Personally I don't see this happening As he has been meeting new sponsors bigging ip the club and I know the eds may know more then I do but the emphasis on him and Gerard during the kit launch also suggest otherwise. As I said I dont have sources but in my humble opinion he's staying. Although this could be wrong the flip side of this is his agent keeps talking about how Suarez would like to play in Spain or Italy.. Lazio lol

Quigz23 {Ed005's Note - Some of the eds do mate. I personally think he'll stay.}

Shocker I know, I was hoping the lad would stay, but to united of all teams, that just breaks my heart

Kato

Kato, you're right, it was his good mate Evra who convinced him to make the switch.
Another well thought out post.

A question for the ed's

Didn't LFC have an interest in De Rossi not to long ago and do you think that it would be possible to get him if we wanted him? and how much would he cost if we did? {Ed016's Note - Not going to happen mate.}

He's finnished as a footballer.

Greetings everyone,

Posted a few questions here before, thought I'd share some information with you all (which I'm sure the Eds & most smart readers will know)-

I'm interning at a newspaper, couldn't pull a position with the sports team but talked to a few of the guys over there and they basically confirmed that most rumours printed are absolute BS. Now I know everyone knows this but they said some interesting stuff regarding Liverpool!

1. Liverpool is added to this papers rumours about a player purely as the readership statistics weigh something like 40-60 for Liverpool vs all other clubs

2. PSG always have their name thrown in for obvious reasons, most people here don't really know whats going on with their team (what positions they need players in etc.) so they make a believable name.
3. This paper in particular has NO inside information on Liverpool, they get nothing new on Liverpool

can't say what paper I'm talking about, smoke and mirrors, but just thought I'd tell you guys what I heard.

ForzaRed

{Ed016's Note - Already knew all this. Good points to show everyone though.}

I'm sure you Eds do, I always suspected as much but it was quite strange being told straight up that my suspicions were true! [FR]

I think we have to be realistic about our squad, especially our attacking options. Suarez, for all his pace and trickery, and big Carroll with his height and power, scored a pathetic amount of goals compared to most of the teams above us. Our midfield contribution (excluding Gerrard) well... the least said about that the better. Defensively, we're not to bad, IF we can hang on to Agger, Skrtel and Reina. The manager knows we've got massive problems in the goals department and also creating those goals. I have complete confidence in Brendan Rodgers sorting out our attacking options and getting us playing the kind of sexy football that Shankly would be proud of. Have faith folks....and remember: "At the end of the storm, is a golden sky"

Stevie.

We had 2nd most shots on target (literally just 1) behind Chelsea. We hit the woodwork countless times. We played (certainly in 1st half season) some fantastic football last year. If we need anything before any signing it's a bit of confidence and luck. Not to say I wouldn't mind to world class attack minded players. But it ain't all doom. CQ
Ps I honestly believe as I've said before Carroll and hendo will be 10 time better this season.

CQ - I just pressed agree about 9 times, but it only registers one spot on mate.
Joe

Those are fair comments mate, let's hope we can convert those unlucky shots into goals this season coming. A couple of quality attacking players and we should be in pretty good shape. I agree that Carroll and Henderson will be far far better this time round, as well as Downing (don't laugh) ...I think the lad is quality, he just needs a confidence boost, you just don't become cr*p overnight.

Stevie.

21 Jun 2012 18:22:32
Well that rubbish you've just got the news that ladrup has said and put two and two together and got 5 you jumping ahead.

21 Jun 2012 18:16:36
If Skyrtel goes? which is a distinct possibility.Put the money towards the purchase of Gylfi, Gaston Ramirez and Luuk de Jong.
I'm thinking that BR might fancy a CD partnership of Gerrard and Agger? personally think that would be brilliant and encourage us to play football from out of defence. Gerrard could extend his career and play for at least another 5yrs from that position? Can see Stevie charging the length of the field if it opens up in front of him and spraying pinpoint accurate balls out of defence. Hansen,Lawrenson,Emlyn and Smithy were all midfielders that made great defenders
Beckenbaur and Mathias are two midfield greats that dropped back into defence and did it brilliantly for the Germans. Stevie could be as good as even them two at club and international level.
kidmillions
{Ed005's Note - I think we would need another CB mate as we would be very short on options in that area, especially with the Europa League next year aswell.}

21 Jun 2012 17:52:44
As a Man United fan I come in Peace..

I came to talk about your team etc

I think you should sell Suarez,Adam,Downing,Henderson,Skrtel,Maxi and maybe a few fringe players and look to bring in cheaper options but they will suit BR's style of play as that is impossible with your current squad

________________Reina
Johnson____Kjaer_______Agger____Enrique
__________Gerrard_____Lucas___________
Krasic__________Siggurdson_______sinclair
________________Carroll

Allen, Miguel Veloso, Nelson Oliviera i would look at aswelll

Imo if you could offload Carroll for 15-20m then i would sign Sturridge from Chelsea as he would fit right in

This 'style of play' phrase is wearing thin on me now! Liverpool played some great football last season albeit the results did not show. There is plenty of talent in the team that can adapt to what tactics and style of play Rodgers would like (each game is different). Liverpool's build up play was some of the best I have seen in years it was the finishing and only the finishing that let Liverpool down.

James Mc

YOu are NOT a Scum because u support lfc

I can see 4 new faces in the team and no one coming in is actually better than what we already have except may be Krasic....

I believe that with the exception of Downing, all players will go on to have a better season....How Downing does will depend on his confidence levels....

With Kuyt leaving, probably Cole will be used there or at least given a chance....

So we will still need 2-3 ppl coming in.....

LiverBird

Fair play lad, attacking wise, its definitely better ...but wheres Suarez? ;-)

Stevie.

Well thankfully you're not our manager as you would happily make us a lot weaker. CQ

Keep Suarez, carroll, and Hendo.
If a decent offer comes in for Enrique, he can go aswell.
AnfieldUSA

Keep Suarez and Skrtel agree with the rest

21 Jun 2012 17:42:30
A lot of these players are not necesarily after transfers away, but they will not have spoken to the manager yet and are probably after some assurances that they are in his plans and that the club is still in a position to compete with the best. We have to be honest the owners statement on the stadium sounded like there going to do nothing in the short term, we brought in Suarez and paid a lot for Carrol which should sent out some message of intent. But this year unless they surprise us I dont see any big name signings, and a top player leaving may have a knock on effect with the others.
We are now feeling the results of not investing in the ground 20 years ago and the acadamy not been run well , which was adressed by Rafa but will take time to bear fruit unfortunately.
On a positive note a lot of last years signings will have a year under there belts now and in most games we looked good so lets keep the core of the squad, add a couple of faces and see what happens, an impressive signing and some good news on the stadium could give everyone a lift but you have to play the hand your dealt.

Michael Laudrup on BBC sports saying Sigurdsson should join Liverpool."He should join a big club playing in Europe!" Short of the Mancs weighing in with a "we don't want him but we don't want Liverpool to get him,or get him cheap" bid that looks like the end of the rumours.

Wilfried zaha from crystal palace is 100% signing on 2nd july.{palace informer}

Where on the bbc website did you see that? I couldn't find it in laudrups interview

21 Jun 2012 17:36:41
Hey eds great site this is im totally hooked on it.

I jus wanna knw ur opnion with regards to da goalkeeper options liverpool have. With liverpool not having a reliable backup keeper for reina do u think mayb we should look at the young keepers out there and maybe loan them out to gain exprience so that when reina does decide to leave pool we have a well decent enuf keeper to take over. Perhapa maybe jack butland. has there been any interest for him and wat wud u estimate he may be worth.

Keep up the great work {Ed016's Note - I think the goalkeeper position is well covered curently}

rumours that agger has handed in a transfer request seem to be gathering pace, coates also unhappy and is considering his future

What kind of Liverpool fan makes up negative rumours about his own team to stir up controversy?!

I hope this is not true, just yesterday the Echo reported he would be happy to discuss a new contract, time will tell

RED4lifeNOTjust4XMAS

What a total pack of lies mate... laughable!

Agger part untrue but Coates part very believable...he would be starting CB on a lot of teams...name me another starting player on a continental championship team that sits on the bench for his club...

21 Jun 2012 17:26:04
Iv never read such nonsense... a Brendan Rodgers revolution lol how are you going to play his style of football and keep it on the floor what about Andy Carroll you have one player that would suit it and thats suarez and he wont last as your keeping evertons bums warm being the worst team on merseyside say bye to Skrtel, Reina and Suarez and say hello to Danny Gabiddon, Neil Sullivan and Benni Mcarthy thats the pulling power you have nowadays

WHO DO YOU SUPPORT THEN ??

Obviously a bitter blue that can't take the fact we beat them home and away last season and can a revolution in progress.

Are you kidding? I think Carroll will suit BR's style. He has a cracking left foot and his positioning, passing and touch have all come on in leaps and strides towards the end of the season and the few games he's played for England. Also because Rodger's plays the ball mainly on the floor doean't mean there aren't any crosses that are in the air for the big man to nail with that cracking header of his.

JitB JFT96

I am sorry but is it me, what does "keeping evertons bums warm", mean?

Obviously not a red, but oh how we could do with such erudite supporters, our loss I suppose.

Ooooo i love it you can smell the desperation and uncertainty, it seems like LFC is on everyones minds because slowly but surely were climbing our way back

Bore off!

I support united.

21 Jun 2012 17:22:05
Rodgers wants four players:

Borini
Sturridge
Sigurdsson
Bedimo

Aquilani and Cole are set to stay. Maxi's future is unclear. Aurelio and Kuyt have gone. Spearing and Pacheco are likely to be gone, along with Wilson. Shelvey will probably go out on loan.

What about wingers? isnt that our main weakness up front?

lfcscott

Krasic would solve that 6m, if i was in charge that would be a done deal

21 Jun 2012 17:21:30
Please don't have a go at me before I write this post but let's look at our rivals.
Arsenal have bought podolski girund and probably mvilla.
Chelsea have bought hazard and are going to continue spending
Man u have bought kagawa Powell and will continue to spend.
Man city are not even worth mentioning.

My point is this will be the top 4 for years to come unless we start to target better players than borini etc. we have two options spend like crazy to get their or start to try and develop our acedemy and perhaps target 1 top player each summer. If we start to act that gap will continue to get bigger.

Thanks

As a Man united fan im actually going to say i agree you are talking complete sense imo but i dont think you need to spend mega money just buy the right layers which you havent done recently plus none of your team bar Suarez suit BR's style of play

Eh? So Pepe doesn't have distribution skills to play the ball from the back, Johnson and Enrique aren't attacking full backs capable of providing width and overlapping, Agger can't pass into midfield or across the back four, Lucas can't hold, press and win the ball and lay it off, Gerrard can't distribute, press and win the ball in midfield whilst linking the defence and front men and Caroll can't have the ball played into his feet and lay it off to link up play.

With all due respect to the Swansea team who played fantastic football last season, you'd have to say that every player mentioned above is better technically than their Swansea counterpart, so my little Manc friend you have either never seen us or Swansea play or you need to unplug your X box, close the curtains and kiss mummy goodnight.

Evs the Red

What makes you think that Podolski and Giroud are gonna be good in the premier league? A bayern flop and a Striker who's only had 1 good season, they mightn't buy M'vila either!

Hazard is a moody little b*****d and I think will struggle greatly to adapt to our league.

Kagawa will be decent enough for United but what other threat is there apart from Rooney, we destroyed them twice this year and were lucky not to get the win! Powell is 17, he won't be playing for United 1st team for a while yet!

Man City are NOT a team, I repeat ARE NOT A TEAM. It is an accumulation of players who care for no one but themselves and will not work together to win! In theory they should have walked the league but scrapped it on the last day!

We have a nice balanced stable team that we can add 3-4 players and be ready for top 4 with a young ambitious manager

My point is that I'm extremely optimistic for the new season as the players we are linked with are offering great value or have good experience in England or both! Honestly we only need to strengthen 3 areas!

Irish redman

No need to spend but Suarez the only player suited to play...what a moron...

unless the Manc believes all we need is Suarez to beat them...

Well said Irish Redman........Man City are nothing but a car-park full of Bentleys and a dressing-room full of egos.
I'd hate to have to support a club like Citeh.......roll on next season, can't wait.

hope skrtel leaves, he's a complete liability. we've become accustomed to losing to wigan, west brom, blackpool, fulham etc and he has been a major part of that. enough of the constant disappointment, bring caulker and coates in

Skrtel is at least 3 times better than Caulker. And Wisdom has much greater potential.

Have you actually ever watched a game, my bitter friend.......
ND

No i just follow the bbc live text, never actually watched a game

Are you mad ?? Skrtel is your best player bar Suarez you fool clearly you have no knowledge of anything including your own team

He's is not the best player behind Suarez ^^^. But he did show a lot last season and was one of our best players. Agger is our best center half and we also have a lad called Steven Gerrard who is decent. 20 million for Skrtel would be great business for Liverpool as Skrtel is one of many players who are easy to replace or promote Coates and Wisdom as cover.

Why do so many Liverpool fans never stop about Adam Johnson, its like he could be our Messi...ah or something. I can't understand it, its not like he world class, if he was, City wouldn't even consider Liverpool as a possible destination for him. Only reason why City will let him come to us is because we may be thick enough to pay that over inflated transfer fee city are looking for.

The truth is Johnson is 25, he probably will never get much better than he is now. He is a bit part player bought by city for 7.5m, he rarely plays, and city somehow value him at something between 15-20m. This tells me that they believe they can get a club to pay this silly fee for a fringe payer.

If Liverpool spend that sort of cash on Johnson it will be on par with buying another Downing, nothing against Downing, but he was never worth 18m pounds, neither is Johnson worth 15m+.

Liverpool need to look abroad there are better and cheaper players on the continent to found for less money.

If we do end up selling Skrtel for £20mil (which I personally wouldn't take) then surely a good replacement has to be Simon Kjaer? From what I've heard he would be available for less than the £20mil we'd get for Skrtel, plus he already plays with Agger for Denmark, and I think i'm right in saying he's only 23?
If Suarez is to be sold for around £30-40mil then I would love to see us go for Gaston Ramirez, Luuk De Jong, or Lewandowski (if possible) - top quality replacements. I would also like to see us take a chance of someone like Krasic who is available for less than £10mil if I'm correct?
Players Out:
Skrtel
Suarez
Players In:
Sigurdsson
Krasic
Kjaer
One of the above 3 strikers
I's be happy with that, although I'd prefer to keep our top players, what can you do if their heads are turned by money and Champions League football? What you think Eds?

Kjaer isn't good! Why do people keep thinking he's good?! He and Agger don't play well together - they conceded five goals in three games! Just because they both happen to be Danish doesn't mean they are automatically suited to each other! Look at Ferdinand and Vidic, or Terry and Carvalho, or Kompany and Lescott - or indeed our very Skrtel and Agger, Slovakian and Danish, and the third best central defensive pairing in the premiership last season. Kjaer is a lightweight, easily bullied. Agger plays best with a physical presence beside him. So please stop talking about Kjaer, not only is he subpar in himself, he also plays badly with Agger, one of the reasons that despite Agger playing his heart out in the Euros they were still dumped out.

Babel back to anfield?? Felt he never got true run under rafa !!

He never got a true run because he was rubbish, he has now been found out.

if reina where to leave how would be your most relistic option ? thanks

Vorm or krul because lazy scouting and signing one season wonders is the way forward. let's sign ba aswell

He didnt have the best Euro campaign, but you dont really judge a player by his performances at the Euro's, but i would choose Stekelenburg. Or Hugo Lloris.

Hey Eds I'm a huge fan of this site, I watch it religiously :) I was just wondering, if there were 3 players that you think may sign for us this summer, who do you think it will be?? Cheers BeAr YNWA :) {Ed002's Note - I am pretty sure there are many who will take a shot at listing three "realistic" signings.}

Sig krasic borini perhaps.

Munian Ramirez and de Jong but if we got sigardson I would be very happy as he represents serious value for money.

Thanks

If i could choose 3 players i wish us to sign, within a realistic target, wheter they would happen or not is a different story.

Keisuke Honda, a massive fan of him.
Luuk De Jong
Cristian Tello

I wonder if all these foreign players that people are suggesting are 'targets', are simply players they bought on FIFA, and due to them having increase by 4-5 points after the first season in managerial mode, they are of the opinion that they would be 'great additions'?
I, like many, am an avid game player, and through such games, have become aware of players I would have otherwise been unaware of. But please, FIFA is not the nostradamus of football. It does not predict the future development of young players.
Some of the players people are mentioning are good prospect, sure. But the MAJORITY are non-english speaking, young, and fragile, mentally. They would not be able to, nor have ANY desire to, play their football in a new country.
I still like reading the dumb rumor posts, but I implore everyone to take little stock in clearly fantastical posts.

You cant chop and change goalkeepers,Centre halfs,strikers as some saying, then expect to gel as a team

Yes you can in FIFA 12

Ironically, in my last FIFA 12 season Skrtel became unsettled and requested a transfer. As did Kuyt. Strange stuff, that.

Hi

It is sooooooo nice to see the eds in such a melodious and beautiful mood.

Although i am reading the same posts daily, it seems so nice that the eds are not irritated anymore. Finally ousted the bad worm. Enjoy yourself on the sidelines Mr Worm, where you belong.

Anyway i am hearing that Brendan Rodgers is a great admirer of Benat (Real Betis, 25) and Yohan Mollo (Granada, 22).

Is there any truth in those players from Liverpool. If not who are they most likely to join. Finally are the above players any good and will they fit into a Liverpool way of play.

Great site.

Thanks
YNWA-SA {Ed002's Note - If Benat moves perhaps Atletico. Mollo will move to Nancy if a deal can be struck but Rennes have shown an interest.}

The Europa League is pointless. Its so long and if you win it no one cares and they will just call it a mickey mouse cup! I would rather not be in it, I remember how boring it was when we were in it a couple of years ago, playing teams like Utrecht. What are your opinions?

Hounsred

I agree the longer were in it the less chance we have of getting top 4,to many games with injuries we must try and get top 4 and forget everything else. Lee

I don't think Falcao and At. Madrid are complaining a little bit.

Stop posting trash. The europa league is a perfect platform for youngsters like hendo, shelvey, coates, kelly, robinson, sterling, suso etc to get some much needed experience of european football.
Indian Buzzer

It's not a blessing, but it isn't a curse either. The youngsters need game-time, and I don't see them getting any in the PL or FA cup, therefore the Europa League (along with the Carling Cup and NextGen) will help in this regard (hopefully).

McAlien

The Europa League is pointless. Its so long and if you win it no one cares and they will just call it a mickey mouse cup.

Do you have any Idea about the prize money you get if you go to until final ?

An away night in europe is always good mate!

When is our first Europa League game, Eds? {Ed005's Note - I'm not sure I think it is July mate. A negative maybe? However it will give us a chance to see BR's style of play in action and maybe even see a few new signings/fringe players/young players in action while the main ones are at the Euros.}

I went to the Last Uefa cup final we were in (as it was then), it wasnt mickey mouse, its was amazing!

Yes the may have buggered the format a bit (lot) but id still love to win it again

Afternoon Ed is there any chance that we could perhaps try again at having a discussion about the South American options?

Cheers
Chris in Tamworth {Ed002's Note - Sadly Chris we are seemingly in a period of rising abuse so discussing the players that have been looked at in the Americas is not something we can do as they are not household names - so the vegetables get restless.}

Scouting is about identifying a player before he is a house hold name surely people realise that {Ed002's Note - Would be nice to think that.}

If its got that bad mate then surely it must be time to insist on an email address being supplied for all posts.
I do worry if it is to be the way of the moden fan to behave like this in response to the fact that the game they follow has no morals left.
And it's all spurs fault, fact

Chris in Tamworth

Chris, suggest you and ed002 come up with a fish-based code, equating fish to up and coming South Americans and we discuss secretly on fishing page. Might risk of missed-hake-en identity though.

ProfG

Come on eds not all us fans are stupid , some of us are quite knowledable .

trev d {Ed002's Note - I don't think anyone has suggested that all Liverpool fans are stupid.}

Chris spot on mate, I know it is a lot of hassle for the eds to introduce user names etc, but to make it mandatory to add you email address before posting will oust the abuser's and make the eds' life much easier.

Ed2 mate, thanks for saying "americas" and not just south America. I reported about a young american midfielder being monitered with a view to sign from the Liverpool academy in the u.s. and right away I got hate and abuse.

Ed, Rumours getting about that LFC have agreed a deal with Air China to sponsor a major redevelopment of Anfield to be announced within a few weeks, have you heard anything?

Cheers
Aussie red {Ed002's Note - You need to dig around the archives from about a month ago when this was discussed. Since then the owner has given a position statement as well.}

21 Jun 2012 15:27:30
Macca, this one for you, youve always had a strong belief in the owners redevolping anfield and you posted about a possible sponsorship been agreed for the new stadium ive heard a few rumours lately that the sponsorship was agreed but the owners are going to redevelop... just wondering if theres any news that you know of?
thanks alot...
dw

Is it possible to have a sponsor for a redevelopment {Ed002's Note - Not just to fund the redevelopment. It would be a stadium sponsor - either for a new stadium or perhaps even for a repainted Anfield.}

I may get a lot of abuse for this plus I doubt the owners would want to upset the fans but what about redeveloping anfield and selling the name but keep the anfield eg coca cola anfield stadium. I don't think anyone would bother calling that big long name and it would continue to be called anfield. Another possibility would be sell the name of stands but not the kop.

Thanks

Poster above exactly.It would almost be a conn.Still known as Anfield,but we'd get the money

Eds,
will Liverpool enter in the 3rd qualifying round for the Europa League or in the Playoffs (4rd round) ?
Ed022 suggested it was the 4rd,
whereas Ed002 suggested it was the 3rd.
What is true then? {Ed002's Note - I have told you already. If you don't want to believe me that is fine by me.}

Your the type of tool we dont want on this site. Your probably 12 and dont have a clue on life.
Scouse Ben

P.s good work EDS

Quality reply Scouse Ben, I love the use of the word "Tool" :-) ...and yes, he does sound like a complete spanner.

Stevie.

I do wonder why some find it easier to post a question than rather google it?

Scouse Ben! You say the poster is 12 yet you call him a tool? He was just asking a question as one Ed said one thing and another Ed said something completely different! I suggest that your the tool! And not one you get out of the toolbox! In Rafa we trust!

What do you know Ed's.... You seem to answer every question in a very defensive way. Give me one good reason why i should keep visiting this site when you don't even take a stance on rumours. {Ed002's Note - I see from the abuse about the Editors you are posting elsewhere that you are just the sort of rubbish we don't want visiting the site. We make a serious effort to share our time and knowledge and then get confronted by filth like you trying to bring everyone down. Don't come back - nobody wants you here. If you are a Liverpool supporter then you are an embarrassment to the club and other supporters.}

KrishnaYNWA {Ed002's Note - You did not see what else he wrote so we have zero interest in your bleating aswell. You don't seem to be very good at taking a hint that now would not be a good time to be complaining at the Editors.}

Agree with ed , jog along ;-)
John

Who gives a flying h**k if you visit the site or not? Although I suggest you keep ya gob shut if you do because I far as I can see the eds give up there free time to share their info/thoughts/opinions with us for NOTHING.

That is the problem with society in general, little scrotes like you demanding everything for nothing, then throwing tantrums when you don't hear what you want too, which I'm used to as I have a 5 year old son, although he doesn't know better, you should.

To be honest I hate all these 'I love the eds' and general brown nosing posts but credit where credit is due, I for one appreciate everything you do, but seriously, hats off to you for bothering with this continual freak show from these scum bags trying to ruin it for the decent people out there who genuinely love the club and injoy the insight and banter.

Well said ed...

He should be Man utd or some other club. Who dont have the patient and love to attack.. He can buzz off

FaZzY {Ed002's Note -

Ruff guess please Eds, how many of these comments from people who want ruin this site for everyone do you receive? would it not bet better to not let them on the board in the first place with the hope they will soon get bored.
Kris YNWA.. {Ed005's Note - Too many mate. Sometimes we let things slip and give people the benefit of the doubt but most of the time we just ban them from the website - and sometimes it is only short-term and they are allowed back on to post.}

So let me get this straight..
Some random person starts insulting the eds about their lack of heart in the posts( which they get thousands) because they don't have 100hours a day. And ed2 stats his anger for that poster and I simply agree with what he said. THEN Krishna over there comes and decides that his first post should be one where he insults the eds right after a ban was put out?

At a time when were trying to score more goals and sort offensive side out. I cant believe people think you can just replace Skrtel. And new Centre half will immediately gel with Agger. Dont wreck the Bedrock. For years defence was wrong.We sort that,then its elsewhere,its gone on for years. We had upfront sorted(bar bit of Poor form)then Torres left.If one area seems solid(As Midfield was-Macherano and co)DONT dismantle.It adds to more work elsewhere. Just an opinion

I agree but if he wants to go then what can you do ?
derryred

I agree. £20 million (if poss) sounds great but i think people tend to think £20 worth of attacking options and get all excited by it and do not value a defender the same way. Honeslty, who will fill that spot? Coates?? He may turn out to be great but you cant shove him there just like that cos it will take time to build him in. Kelly, i think could do it now but that still leaves you short elsewhere at the back. Personally i would not sell him until we have new defender of quality and dont see who that is that we could actually get?

Martin Skrtel is ready too talk too brendan rodgers about the clubs future .......

Martin Skrtel's gent Karol Cstonto is quoted as saying: "Some changes have been made at the club and he wants to know what the aims and ambitions are. And of course, we will discuss the issue of Martin's new contract.

"Liverpool is a big club and just because they haven't made the Champions League this year doesn't mean they would not do it next year.

"There are expectations on both sides, though."

if brendan rodgers has the same plans wich is of course getting into the champions league i expect skrtel too stay with the club !

lw12

Was that top 4 next year or top 40 next year

Sell him and put the money towards a top attacking player like Munian or Ramirez

Heres the thing many people miss

City can offer Skrtel a chance to win medals at the highest level we can't.

City can now get players cheaper than they used too as they are no longer building to get to the top they are at the top and players can influence their transfer prices, masch did, so why not Skrtel?

We are forever trying to move up and may pay higher prices for that, in fact we have paid higher prices for that.

Ok Citeh can afford anyone they wish.And if a player and agent push hard enough its hard to stop players going to where they want to,in long run. However for me it sends the wrong message to allow any LFC player to go to another Premiership club.More spending power or not. Wasnt happy when Torres went to Chavski.Anyhow maybe im old fashioned. A further point is a central defensive partnership is the bedrock of a team.Weve had enough Picnic,Kavarme's over the years.KEEP SKRTEL !

21 Jun 2012 14:42:19
We have got a hell of alot of midfielders so expect some to move on if we sign Sig. DM we are weak, Lucas was sorely missed, Spearing had the heart but not the stature to be a true DM so Wanyama would be ideal, big, powerful, young and could be bargain price. Also can play CB, has done the at Celtic when needed so i think he would be class and cover incase we do sell Skirtel.

I think wanyama will de dearer than you think

Wanyama will be a top player so anything under 10 million is a bargain

I'd like to see wanyama take on ibrahimovic in a boxing match!

Hi,
Is there any truth in the Skretl Man City and Anzi interest? If it is true, Personally I think its great that the 2 richest clubs in football will try to outbid each other for our player.

They both won't go crazy bidding for Skrtel,

City will have a cut off price for Skrtel as for the mad man in Anzi we'll he pay anything!

Who knows, we might actually end up with 30 million pounds if anzhi n citeh want him so badly. We cud sign howedes, gylfi n a cdm with the money.

I'd keep skrtel if thats what we'll get

Out: cole aqua maxi kuyt skrtel reina spearing
In: Ramirez Munian de Jong versatile defender who can also play holding midfield eg Isla. A keeper who wouldn't cost that much but is reliable or look to the lower leagues or foreign leagues as there are a lot of options.

I think this would be financially viable but the problem would be convincing some of these players to join. Would you agree ed?

Thanks

Caulker for Skrtel, are you mad

21 Jun 2012 14:19:09
Hi Eds and fellow reds.

Just wondered if one of the ends could clears something up for me, and apologies if the questions has been asked but without searching through 1000 sigurdsson questions i couldnt see anything.

Assuming that he will purchased, can you you imagine him starting from the bench or being an immediate starter. And if he is to be starting 11, then who can you imagine might make way, Gerrard currently plays attacking mid, then we have Lucas as well as adam and hendo on the bench (unless you envisage either of these leaving).

or do you think our formation might change on a regular basis between a 4 and 5 man midfield?

cheers

{Ed002's Note - I would be only guessing to answer these.}

21 Jun 2012 14:17:51
Looking at the skrtel situation, I can defiantly see why some people are skeptical about coates coming into the first 11. He's a quality prospect, someone who (I think) one will be world class. But he currently has the odd issue which would cause problems in the back four. Example would be , each time I see him play he's looking to play the killer ball to an attacker, possibly losing it to an opposition attacker, and he doesn't seem to enjoy the physical side of defending. too many times have I seen him not put in a tackle when he should've or lost a header because he didn't jump with the man. I would like to see liverpool bring in another cb , someone young and still improving, who will cost a fraction of the price of the supposedly £20 mil. I would honestly enquire about Shawcross, still quite young, kind of fallen out of the media eye. We may get him for about 7mil ? could be a shrewd piece of business. He plays similar to skrtel , may well be rotated with coates

Papadopolous from Schalke thanks...

PLEASE not Shawcross!!

There are many able young players like Papadoupolous and Howedes of Schalke , the captain of Lille (I am not going to try to spell his name), Kjaer who can play effectively with Agger .

Why do we need yet another young and up-coming centre-back? Coates, Wilson, Kelly, Wisdom are all "young and up-coming centre backs"

Give Coates or Kelly a decent run in the team. They've got Danny Agger and Jamie C to help them along.

Coates is a full and regular international and Kelly has been in and out for a few seasons.

Spending money in this department would be wasteful not only for financial reasons but also for the development of a few of the brightest defenders we have had for god knows how many years.

Tristan

21 Jun 2012 14:04:03
Does anyone know of BRs transfer targets while he was still at Swansea ?
I know the quality of player LFC demands would be higher than that of the
welsh club , but there might be a couple that he would see as shrewed
buys (given the stories that the transfer budget will be much lower than last year). He had Caulker on loan from Spurs last season , who look like getting Vertonghan , so do the EDs think he could come in as replacement
for MS ?

1. With sig cumin in am I right in saying that this shud limit adam chances of first team action. Has there been any interest in adam or downing from other teams. If can sell them for about 15 million we cud use it to improve the squad.

2. Also with man city and angzhi rumours abt skertel mayb we shud sell him for 15-20 mil and promote coates to partner agger and use the funds to purchase a player lyk matias suarez.

21 Jun 2012 13:56:16
If Man City want Skrtel (only a rumour I know) and always pay over the odds for their targets, I only hope we hold out and get top price for once. There is of course another option Man City will be looking to off load some fringe players could we take advantage of this?

There is one or two there who im sure would happily come for regular footy.

Micah Richards is the man we should be aiming at if we want someone from City

Puzzled mate, I've always liked Micah Richards and remember watching a few games when he first broke into the first team at city and thought we would do well if we signed him. Would like to see Kelly and Agger paired at CB and see how that goes though.

There's been word from the Mrtn Skrtl camp after links with Manchester City today. And that word is hardly unequivocal.

Agent Karol Cstonto is quoted as saying: "Some changes have been made at the club and he wants to know what the aims and ambitions are. And of course, we will discuss the issue of Martin's new contract.

"Liverpool is a big club and just because they haven't made the Champions League this year doesn't mean they would not do it next year.

"There are expectations on both sides, though."

We won't miss Skrtel that much anyway

What does Martin skirtl's agent expect LFC's answer to be regarding expectations and targets for the forthcoming season? The answer is they will be trying to win every game and cup they can. The telling part of his remark is the question about his new contract which will not only beneifit Mr Skirtl !

Brendan Rogers to make a 9.5 m bid for Fabio Borini .. Rogers knows him from his time at Chelsea and he was on loan at swansea the year they won promotion .. pacey and a very good finisher

21 Jun 2012 13:32:39
Eds,
What is the latest strong rumor u've heard?

1)Gylfi Sig definitely Rodger's 1st choice to fill behind striker position. Sigurdsson also very interested to join LFC. Have LFC begins talk to sign him? Seems to be LFC bound nothing yet initiate by LFC to approach him?

2)What happen to talk with Milos Krasic? Is it done? For mere 6-7M. to get quality winger like him is hard. We might save our budgets and invest more for striker.

Finally, Im happy if we sign these 2 players before EURO 2012 ended.

21 Jun 2012 13:31:09
For me Hendo currently lacks character in his ability.

He can press to contain but is not a true ball winner as whilst making interceptions he doesn't tackle as frequently as say Lucas, Tiote, Wilshire or even Gerrard but he also doesn't make assists or score like Sigurdsson, Bannan, Cleverly etc... His main selling point is that he is in most games great at one touch short passing and keeping the ball moving but even so he can on occasion have lapses in concentration that sometimes cause him consistently misplace passes in patches (this years "Gerrard" Merseyside derby springs to mind).

There is however no doubt that Hendo's energy and short passing game will definitely be of value to Rodgers style, but if he is to become a truly stand out player and starting 11 regular he needs to improve either his tackling or attacking ability – ideally both.

Cheers JY

Fully agree maybe it will come to him in time.. thanks mal..

He is easily good enough back-up for Lucas. He can create chances when he is central, however to play our wide you either need pace or be able to get whip on the ball. He can do neither making him a useless winger. He will never be a Gerrard type player because he doesn't power or bend the ball in the same way he does. But he does remind me a lot of Claude Makele. Tackles when necessary, but is tactically good enough to win position without having to crunch anyone. Lucas is only as good tactically despite 3 years more experience, but his tackling is on a much higher level. Henderson represents a youthfull future and one day if him and Lucas can play in the same midfield, it will have bags of energy and steel. Thats why he should be our Euro and Cup undrestudy. Potential will never be relaised sat on the bench or in the reserves, and to get a player of his quality would cost £5-8m, so why waste the money..

YNWA! (Adam)

Henderson has a great future ahead of him. All he needs to do is work hard and believe in himself. Him, shelvey, lucas and add gylfi to the list, we have a very good midfield for years to come. Oh and i forgot suso, who is gonna be the best of the lot.
Indian Buzzer

Totally agree

Indian buzzer mate, suso won't be a midfielder by the time he graduates! The academy is currently trying to change him into a David sliva esque player.

Just something for everyone to think about. I have been trawling through all various stories linking us to various players and what stands out is that they are all average or promising youth and that's it.No links to any established stars yes i know we don't have champ league but there is still some top players to be got or even approached!! This is after a January transfer window when we really needed to strengthen our wings and forward line but nothing happened!! why!! Throw in our bargain basement manger and the constant stalling on the stadium.... Have Fenway's funds dried up are we now broke?? Seems to me we are.....

Seriously do a little research and see that John Henry and Co (NESV aka FSG) are loaded. I just think they dont want to waste money like they did last year and can you blame them? The Stadium has nothing to do with not having money but the right to light as they want to refurb the place. Fans like you need to do research before you talk rubbish

John Henry is not "loaded"

Compared to the sheik or Roman he's P*ss poor

John Henry has a ton of Money, but our club is owned by NESV, who are a collection of businessmen with sporting interests. They all have varying degrees of extreme wealth. So we have the money, the owners just dont want to plunge us into debt again. They obviously want to give us a viable chance of financial survival. {Ed005's Note - The owners want to make us financially sustainable and they also have to bear in mind the FFP rules which we need to abide by. That's not to say we won't be spending money but we won't be doing what City do.}

There are more than one investor at FSG! and with John Henry being the head of FSG do'snt mean that he's the richest! He founded the consortium! FSG are a very wealthy organisation!

I would say 30

I agree, why dont we do what everyone else does and say, if you want him - £30 million.

21 Jun 2012 13:13:17
We dont need to sell skrtl so if city do come in at 20 mil say no,and see if we can squeeze a little bit more out of them. I dont think he is worth 20 though so either way would be goid business. Replacements can be found easily and even rotating between carragher and coates would be enough to keep them both happy. Kjaer would be ideal to sit alongside agger or rfplace him through injury/fatigue.

Thanks

Sorry to step on toes - but Jamie Carragher is no longer good enough at the level we need to be at - If Skrtel goes than yes we can use Coates but we will need back up

Alright Eds, not a question related to transfers just wanted your opinions really. With BR's style of play, do you think there's a chance Sterling could feature more? I understand with his age and what not he wouldn't be a regular starter, but can you see him playing more of a role than last season? The short time he was on the pitch he was prolific and he's amazingly talented, also I think he'd fit into BR's style of play quite seamlessly. Cheers for all the work! JP. {Ed002's Note - TrSterling is still very young - his time will come. I have no doubt he will get more opportunities as he gets older.}

21 Jun 2012 13:07:02
Hi eds, if Man City did bid for Martin Skrtel what are the chances of Liverpool asking for Adam Johnson in exchange? {Ed002's Note - I have no idea at all.}

21 Jun 2012 12:58:31
If the rumors are true of man city possibly chasing skrtle, for the reported 20 million pounds. I reckon we should sell because of Coates, Kelly, wisdom and sama who could all step up especially Coates and wisdom. Kelly is like carragher he can play anywhere along the back 4. So take the money if it happened and embrace the future, wisdom can become a Liverpool and England captain. Si

The key word is 'could'. I'm sure if we sell Skytel we will bring in a replacement. But I would like to see Kelly given a chance in his natural position. CQ

21 Jun 2012 12:55:28
From what I know Sebastian Coates may not be a Liverpool player for long as he as his girlfriend are struggling to adapt to live in England. So don't be too quick to say he is ready to replace Skrtel. Unless Rodgers can persuade him he has a big part to play in his plans. I can see Liverpool defiately looking to buy a CB if Srtel does go regardless of Kelly and Coates there.

Thanks Markolfc85

Stadium Suggestion
Banks aren't playing ball, high interest rates and no appetite to fund anyway.
Bear with me
Raise £300,000,000
Offer fans to contribute , get your name on a brick and a dividend in say 5 years to help cash flow, from revenue streams from concerts hotels etc
As an example £2500 contribution, I know it's alot but could be altered ,
120,000 fans to fund a state of the art stadia.

Great idea

Never going to happen!

LFC has a waiting list of 20,000+ wanting season tickets, but if all were offered season tickets next season how many of them will put their money on the table...30-40% maybe?

dmedly

I would definitely buy a few bricks for my family. And one for Heskey.

65-68k stadia enough for LFc

ed hope you dont mind just a quick few questions about scouting.

1) are Fallows and Hunter the blokes who scouted the likes of De Jong and Kompany?

2) or were they Mark Hughes signings, and if so who are his scouts? Everywhere he goes he brings in quality, relatively obscure players i.e. Samba and Santa Cruz and Blackburn, Kompany and De Jong at City, Dembele at Fulham, and people like Diakete (who is less talented but has done well at QPR) and Cisse who i'm sure noone else in the prem would have took a punt on.

Thanks! {Ed002's Note - I suspect the players you mention predate Hunter and would not have been in the remit of Fallows. To answer you fuller I would have to explain the structure of the scouting set up at various clubs and I am sure you will appreciate that it is not practical.}

Yeah fair enough, thanks anyway ed. just hope our new scouts can bring in one or two players of that quality and price!

Eds do you reckon any of our acquisitions from last summer will be sold, if so who do u reckon? {Ed019's Note - I don't think they will, we'll need a large squad of players next year, especially if we want to progress in the europa league}

21 Jun 2012 12:39:47
If Man City bid £20-25m for Martin Skrtel, I wouldn't be adverse to the club accepting such an offer... it's a huge sum of money that money would increase our transfer kitty significantly.

In Seb Coates and Martin Kelly, I think we already have ready made replacements for Skrtel. Coates showed promise in the few appearances he made for us last season, whilst becoming a fully fledged international. Martin Kelly has never let us down when selected, and I think that would continue if selected at centre half.

If I was Brendan Rodgers, if Skrtel was sold, I would use the money to improve the attacking side of the squad.

RedSG

Do you actually think the americans will use this money or all of it to invest in the squad. I doubt it. We are run by business men not football lovers or fans. I am a fan but some people seem deluded.

As business men, it makes sense that they will stand to make a lot more money if the club is successful - no delusions - fact.

John B

I don't get posts like the one above. If the club is an investment for FSG then it stands to reason that the more successful it is the higher its value. They're not so stupid as to hog the odd transfer fee and prevent the club getting back to the top. That's just stupid.

John B

You are under s false illusion

Making the club successful could cost way more than whats it worth after achieving bought success

I'd like to ask the Eds, and our posters who watch a fair amount of European football - has football now become homogenised ?

By this, I mean when I were a lad (after my 15 hour day down't pit and a Hovis sandwich for my dinner) British football was played differently - and very succesfully - to the continentals.
They played catenaccio, or used a sweeper, or total football.

I realise Liverpool adapted from their European experiences but you could still definitely say there was a difference in styles.

These days, watching the Euros and the CL, I think that marked difference has gone. Maybe Barca apart, it all seems pretty much alike.
Now I don't have Sly, so maybe I'm taking out off my big end here, but I'd be interested in other's opinions (for once, lol !).
And what's Sth American club footy like ?
The Real KB {Ed019's Note - I don't understand what you mean, maybe someone can help?}

Hi Ed019,

I think what Real KB is trying to say that back in the 70/80's and early 90's, European teams all more or less played the samwe waty in a contintental way or with a sweeper and English teams played always played more kinda robust , up your jumper kinda way !! lol

But now, with the exception of Barcelona, teams generally play a more flared continental approach

Rebel_Red

Agree KB, there is a real difference, thats why the PL will always be labelled as the toughest due to its nature of how the game is played. This has never changed, but the influence of foreign talent in amongst the leagues has forced teams to look at styles of play differently.

Some clubs have taken time to adapt and implement this change in style (manu,gooners eg) but have stuck by it and their manager, and somehow morphed it into uniqe PL type of football.

Liverpool benifited hugely from our team style of pass and move, but now this style is somewhat outdated, and i think its this identity in football that marks the difference across Euro`s and CL as many teams still try to emulate the team pass and move style.

As much as i hate to mention them, but manu can be mentioned as much as Barca, as they have successfully integrated european style modern football, into the PL style with the teams below them constantly trying to concentrate on catching them up.

Ok, there is a lot of business nonsense behind a lot of football nowadays, but at the end of the day the pitch is the top table and has final say in most, if not all decisions at all football clubs, backed by a fruitfull acadamy and commercial model.

Overall i think there is a little less personal feel to football nowadays as money is the be all and end all of most things.
But.....
BR can hopefully merge his style to our team ethos and develop a new approach to PL & European football, Mourinho had it and everyone knew it, luckily he didnt get along with his boss !

Along with you, i have watched very little Sth American footy, but i always wonder how they manage to constantly churn out world beaters ?? But i would put it on a Par with maybe Serie B or Liga2 in terms of quality IMO.
Piddy.

One major difference - in the Premier League the second touch of most of the players is either a tackle or a free kick - in nearly every European League they employ a thing called SKILL, with the ability to control a ball, irrespective of whether they are closely marked.

John B

21 Jun 2012 11:35:15
ED would you take the reported 20 million for Skrtel ? Also if we want to take a player of Mancity as part of the deal it should be john guidetti . Is it posiible ?

If we end up getting Gylfi sigurdsson , Tello , John Guidetti , Caulker , Henri Bedimo it would be a GREAT window.
{Ed019's Note - Yes, I would take the money, £20M for a player that has only 1 good season and can only play with Agger so far is great business, but I would rather sell abroad than to City}

Agree abroad only,do not like selling to rivals. It takes time to get an understanding in defence

Only one good season? A bit harsh i feel Eds?
gareth

Id stay away from bedimo. My bro watches a lot of french footie, n he does not rate him at all, albeit he is a manc.

Great site Eds and thank you for your great info....

Can you confirm the latest on Borini? It seems we have a real interest...do you know if a bid has been made and if this is likely to happen? {Ed019's Note - We are interested and we have enquired, but no bid has been made yet}

21 Jun 2012 11:33:26
Hi Ed. I spotted on Wales Online that Laudraup is hoping to have one final attempt at convincing Sigurdsson to complete his move to Swansea. I guess this is why his deal with us hasn't been concluded.

Interestingly, in the same article, Markus Babbel also states that Swansea are the only team to have made a formal bid for him. Again, I presume this shows BR is being true to his word and not making a move until Sig has definitely decided not to move to Swansea

Rich P {Ed019's Note - I still am pretty sure Gylfi will be a Liverpool player pretty soon}

I hope so Eds, i really do. The guy has a bright future and seems a cool guy also

21 Jun 2012 11:31:50
If Man City want Skrtel and Skrtel wants to go to City than I would only sell him for £30m at least. City have enough money so make them pay. If we want another player from another english club we also have to pay over the odds. So why not let City pay over the odds for Skrtel.
That Sheik has enough money so he won't feel it.

Couldn't agree more if they really want him make them pay,if not we still have a good player on our books

You're right but it becomes different if the player wants to leave. We don't want to hang onto anyone that doesn't want to play for the club, it doesn't work. But I agree with getting top money for him, after all they did pay £24 million for Lescott.

dannyMAC

Much as a dislike Man City and what a team like that represents, they are not going to shed silly money anymore for players that are not worth it. I Rate Skrtel very highly but he is not £30 million pounds worth of talent, and think we would struggle to get anything over £20 million. Not sure if Ed agree's with me or not?

Hi Eds,

BR:"There is a couple of signings who can come and improve us,strait away".

My source told me that he[BR],was talking about:
Gylfi Sigurðsson and Fabio Borini.
He is going to wait and see what the squad has to offer,before deciding,who to sell or loan.
He will see who doesn't fit his philosophy and ship him out.
Also my source believes that,
At the moment no one knows the number player he is going to sign or sell,as he will replace everyone who leaves.

Cheers.
The_Anfield_Swallow.

21 Jun 2012 11:29:24
Liverpool are not willing to sell Martin Skrtel he is in BR's plans. Liverpool will only consider selling him to force the hand of Manchester City in the selling of Adam Johnson. If City are not willing to sell Johnson, Skrtel will only be sold if he hands in a transfer request and will be sold to the highest bidding non premier league team. Mitch

21 Jun 2012 11:28:08
Not a rumour just an opinion but how about if City are lurking around for Skrtel we ask for 20 mil + Weiss, i understand player exchanges are rare but im sure he is a fringe player and he looked quite handy when on loan to Rangers recently

21 Jun 2012 11:27:05
With Diame going to west ham could we be going after allen for cover (DM)? and what are the chances of Spearing staying? Hes a local lad but hes just not good enough for Lfc - Me personally i would let Spearing and Aqua go and bring in Flamini - Free and Sigurdsson - 7 {Ed019's Note - We are not allowed to sign Swansea players this year, sorry}

21 Jun 2012 12:13:42
Is it logical to say that we are in a good (maybe the best) position to get Fabio Borini once his juridical issues are fixed?

Thanks for the good job Eds, and thanks for your answer.
YNWA {Ed019's Note - Possibly, he does already know Rodgers of course}

21 Jun 2012 12:12:04
Hey eds ricky van Wolfswinkel He was looked out the other season he ended up going cheap about 5/6 million now he worth a lot more I think ,did we pass him over for some reason (to slow /two small)etc not saying he is , or was we not that interested ? Or two slow to sign him I know you not the manager but might know more then us thanks
YNWA lfc linc {Ed019's Note - We were interested under Hodgson I believe, and if we wanted him that much we would have bid for him, but we never did}

21 Jun 2012 12:03:06
Guy replies to my post last night about needing back-up to Lucas.. I think you may be right, but i also think we already have a player ready to do so. Jordan Henderson. He is useless out wide, but has proved he can do a very good job in central midfield. He made 54 interceptions last year and had a solid tackle % to. He is very good at reading the game and puts Kuyt to shame with his work rate. Its about time we signed a proper right winger (Krasic?) and stopped trying to turn players like Kuyt, Babel, Henderson, Gerrard and Maxi into players they clearly are not.

YNWA! (Adam) {Ed019's Note - Henderson had a 84% tackle success rate last term}

Not sure his going to ground tackling is that smart though, I maybe wrong

RedLee

Agree with most of what you say, but I think Gerrards best position is on the right wing.

Wow! i really didnt know his tackle % was that high..

Food for thought...

Eddoo1, do you know if wisdom is still at the club and will have a few appearances next season,I rated the lad highly as with ayala who did leave the club. {Ed001's Note - he is still there, I think he has a great chance of making it, he has pace, power, good on the ball and a decent reading of the game. I would like to see him get a good loan move that gives him a chance of regular football.}

Hi eds just a thort in my head if we have no money what is the point in having Such a large scouting network surly we wud b wasting our time if we have no money to buy wots ure thorts {Ed002's Note - Nobody has suggested there is "no money" and the scouts will be looking at players who may cost little or nothing.}

My mates cousin who has family links to Brendan Rodgers has told me that Gary Neville is likely to take on a coaching role as Brendan looks to strengthen his coaching staff.

Just what we need someone with real passion at Anfield. would be a great addition IMO.

I just have one word for all those posters naming every Tom dick and Harry to replace skrtle if he leaves. Coates. Why waste money when we don't need to. 20 mil will get a top striker or winger. I realise that was more than one word but I wanted to make my point.

I agree Eric
We also have Kelly who is comfortable playing in that position...

Hi Eds... Quick question, but a significant one, as it may involve me and many others paying out a small fortune. :-) ...when Warrior took over from Adidas, did they change the time period regards releasing new kits, ie, one new home kit every 2/3 years, or are they gonna get the arm? Great work guys, keep it up. {Ed002's Note - I don't understand the term "get the arm". Sorry.}

Perhaps he's trying to sell you an adjustable rate mortgage.

Sorry Eds, blame the 4 year old for the truncated post. :-) LOL "Get the arm IN" as in, shaft us fans...

Stevie. {Ed002's Note - I don't recall what the rules are nowadays for changing kits but there are some constraints that they need to adhere to. I really don't know what they are planning either.}

I think it's a new home away and 3rd kit every year.MATTYLFC

if suarez sold then who will be the replacement? ricky van wolfswinkel or soldado among these two who would be your choice ED..... it will be pleasure to have a answer ED.
Som From India.... {Ed019's Note - Someone who regularly puts the ball in the net}

Ricky van wolfswinkel is wack.

If saurez goes you need to get the best replacement possible ie soldado or muniain.

Get the 2 from money off Suarez

Great response ed-someone who puts the ball in the net..lol. made me laugh anyhow

Hold out for twenty two million for skittles an thats more money for the squad' and not another CB as Coates is going to be a top CB and form a fantastic partnership with our best defender in agger' with Kelly covering and wisdom coming through.
Remeber skrtle only had one good season which was last and still has alot of limits to his game. However if he does stay I will be more than satisfied.

king kenny back at anfield rumoured new scout role ynwa next year is our year

Dont think so mate no room for him. B R would not want kenny casting a shadow over him

Kenny would work in boundaries of his own role, he wudnt interfere in the managerial structure of the club. Come on this is a man who puts the club before himself.

Kenny would be mad to have anything to do with FSG, he still should be manager, sacking the king for a mgr with one years experience with the swans, how silly is that, well thats our FSG, such visionairies or maybe they just don't know what they are doing. Anyone for another Manager next season as Brendan is not fit for purpose!

AnCo

Hey AnCo , i am not even going to start about the hopeless cause that is your post.

But, just answer this genius, who won Swansea the promotion?
Because if its BR then you should return back to your own little hole under a rock from where you make a comment about a man who has involved in coaching for more than 15 years.

The same guy that spent £100m and finished 8th? Pull the other one. I could see him coming back in an ambassadorial role, but certainly not in the scouting department. Surely that ship sailed after he thought Stuart Downing was worth £20m.

davethebutcher

Winning Promotion to the EPL is not the same as winning the EPL, Mr. No Name poster is it?

The highest up the ladder you go the tougher it gets as you'll discover by season end.

All rumours I know but...

Skrtel to City
Suarez to Juve or PSG etc
Reina to Milan

Where will it stop, we are letting teams cherry pick our players...WE ARE TURNING IN TO ARSENAL!!

Concerned

Dorset-Red

Alsenal are far better than us right now - Arsen Wenger knows what he is doing, they have new stadium and they have players. Sorry but we need all these to become Asenal, we are more like reading and west ham team

Fsg are clueless if that happens

I would not be too worried Dorset Red mate, its silly season. If we were interested in half the players we are rumoured to interested in id be more worried that we are turning into Citeh !!

Anyways as i've always said regardless of who they are, if they are not comitted to LFC, they know where the door is, dont slam it behind you !

Rebel_Red

None of the players you mentioned have left.

That's a possible 60-70 mill. I'd take it. All can be replaced with that money for players of equal quality or better.

But if you look at some of the prices being quoted for these moves then very worthy replacements can be bought throughout the team.

Sorry to single out an editor but a quick question for ed001, as you seem to know all the ins and outs at liverpool in regards to youth setup and everything, do you feel that our backroom staff are doing a good enough job for the club? Just asking because we are on our fourth manager in as many seasons and wondered if there is an underlying problem?. Thanks for your time, red89 {Ed001's Note - the backroom staff are excellent, in regards to the youth set up etc. Rafa brought in the best in the world, but it takes 10 years, minimum, to feel the true benefit of a youth set up. Remember the likes of Scholes etc coming through for the Mancs? That youth set up was Ron Atkinson's, yet Fergie was the one who got all the benefit from it. The problem the club has had, well it is mainly down to the neglect of the club during David Moores' tenure. The club was in excellent shape, but he sat on his hands and did nothing. While other clubs in the Prem were cashing on, setting up a proper commercial arm, he did nothing. We are still playing catch up, still trying to get our commercial arm up to the level of the Arsenal's and Man Utd's. Still trying to get a stadium big enough to compete with the Newcastle's etc. Hopefully, we now have the stability we need.}

That is probably the most sensible thing I have ever read on this site. Well said.

Eds: Flamini to Liverpool on a free, is this realistic? {Ed019's Note - Too old}

Hi Eds & Reds,

Sorry Ed019, but i have to disagree with you here, he is only 28, i would not consider that too old, he has Premiership expierence and title winning experience with Milan and Arsenal, been available on a free,I think he would good cover for Lucas Levia

Rebel_Red {Ed019's Note - Fair play, I understand your response but I think wages of approx 60k would be too much for a backup player, I personally would much rather have a upcoming younger player who could learn from Lucas as well as become solid backup, who is on respectable wages}

Fair enough Ed019, but Joe Cole is on bloody 90 grand a week lol

Liverpool = relegation battle next season

You = wrong
GOD

Quite agree, though not relegation material I feel we will not challenge at all at the top of the PL. Reasons: Bad players in Downing, Adam, Henderson, Carroll, Spearing and now a manager who has been brought in to run things on a shoestring budget.

You either support another team and are worried where they will finish up at the end of the season, if so go back to your own site or you are just on here to stir up trouble I.e a troll. If this is the case.....you are a sad lonely individual. If you say you support Liverpool Ive got news for you.....you don't
really!
Jim 22

WHAT? >-Z

Sorry Jim 22, I have to disagree with you, its not for you to decide what defines a Liverpool FC fan. You might not like their opinions, but they are entitled to them, and also to support to LFC how they choose.

Karl

That would be England internationals Downing, Caroll and Henderson. None of whom were at Liverpool when Hodgson was manager yet get selected as among the best English talent around. England when I last looked were in the top 10 international teams in the world. So those 3 players are therefore in the top 250 players in the world. But I guess you know more than Hodgson and Dalglish.

Well Karl, surely he is the entitled to his opinion of what constitutes a LFC fan. Provided that people don't get abusive they are entitled to their opinions on any topic

Redpath

Well said Karl. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Good on you. I personally do not think we will do much next season.

Sorry Karl - you look up the definition of support. You can be a constructive critic and/or a supporter. The first poster was a troll. Jim22 has an opinion too and he is right. You are obviously a liberal democrat.

Why is everyone under the idea that he is running on a "shoestring budget" eds many times have said money is available for the right players

Let's remember that famous quote from Voltare: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" ...except for Trolls.

Stevie.

Sorry people don't like or disagree with what I posted( thanks Redpath). But I can't be the only one sick of so called fans writing off our season before it even begins! Supporters get behind their team come what may, a good example of this would be the Irish recently.....Now that's support
Jim 22

I'm also sick of fans disregarding and shouting other fans down because their views are not the same. Jim 22 made a generalisation about the OP, he states he is not a fan.

This is not a pop at Jim, all I want know is why some people wont tolerate a dissenting voice, and you can work out who most of these people are by what they say. i.e. your not a true fan or go support the mans or plastics or whatever. So what p*ss*s me off is that it seems I can only be a Liverpool fan as long as I hold the same views as these people and never offer an opinion that differs from theirs?

Karl

Karl, fair enough you may have a point but as the original poster didnt give a reason behind such a bold statement and unlike your good self even have the decency to sign the post, to me that just spells TROLL....I may be wrong.
Lets move on......Whens Cavani signing?:)
Jim 22

How you can include big Andy Carrol , in your list , shows you dont know too much about our team , Carrols game has improved by at least 50 per cent , in the last 3/4 months , and is in the England squad on merit , also I believe that he will be a very important player for LFC this coming season .

Said same Karl loads of times. Its a very immature attitude by posters,Eds/ whoever. If your views not tunnel vision-totally brainwashed,your a Manc/Chav/Blue S ite troll. Its pathetic.Red Turk gets loads,ok he is O.T.T at times.But All genuine fans want the same-success! And in most debates theres a grain of truth in most peoples opinions,even if just a grain! If we all where constructive in just our disagreements(ala Carra and Keane at Euros)We maybe would come to a common ground in uniting behind Reds.Even if we do dislike certain players and have oppossing views.ie.I vote Labour but dont agree on their immigration policies.I used to post under Mr.Whinge,i dont sign now(cos theres so many name calling morons,it turns me into one ve them-a immature(but aggressive)neanderthal. We should respect each others views as Reds firstly,and secondly as Adults. This page at times is interesting,ie.Blair. But often we do nothing to dispell the Harry Enfield portrayel of Scousers. Ive seen our fans belting each other at games.Grow up!

If its true I would sell Skrtel.... and I would not replace him. We have two able players that are ready...Coates and Kelly. Save the money and buy a quality attacker and winger. The best form of defence is attack so someone that can run defend attack and score is the key.

I hope the rumours of Skrtel are true. I like the lad but 20 million for him is double what I would expect for him. That money could easily purchase two quality players, that's of course if we do a Newcastle and find these hidden gems for cheapish money and be very shrewd in the market. I would not actively seek to replace Skrtel. We should use that to purchase Sigurdsson and maybe Striker/Winger.

Eds is there any interest in any other players in the calibre of a winger or striker and will Rodgers look to sell dead wood and do you have any ideas how many players he is looking at signing??

Thanks Markolfc85

{Ed002's Note - Please keep up with the posts. We are not here to write summaries of the other posts. Sorry.}

That's what your here for though, I hear ridiculous rumours and read ridiculous rumours and I just ask for your opinion, you always say try the search function. I would if I asked about a particular player. But am not so I asked if you knew anyone in your opinion who is being targeted.

Thanks Markolfc85

Your very question gets asked so many times, and it has been answered the best it can by the Eds. Plus you can hardly expect the Eds to know what Rodgers will class as dead wood, how many players he may want, or who he has on the transfer list.

There are a lot of posts to read but everyone needs to make the effort to browse them, and not get offended if they don't get a response they wanted.

Please remember the Eds give up their time for nothing to keep this site running, so show them the respect they deserve.

so skrtel leaves us.. its going to happen isnt it.. I am quiet excited in a way because they dont need to buy another we have Coates who I think is more than good enough... him and agger will unleash hell on anybody

21 Jun 2012 09:59:00
The mention of £20m and everyone is saying sell Skirtle, I'm not sure this is a great idea at all. Whilst he had a good season Aggers injury problems are allways going to be a cause for concern, we saw last year that Carra just cant perform at the top level anymore, not his fault it's life we all get old, we had games with Agger at Full back and Kelly covered for johnson a lot to. Reina and Skirtle are ever presents and bring some stability to the back four. Add to this whilst agger is fantastic with the ball at his feet Skirtle is the more dominant in the air, and they know each others game now, we should be building on the game time and experience earned last season not rebuiling a whole new team again, we are getting like Man U in the 70's and 80's changing managers and teams all the time, good in cups but not consistent enough to win a league.
City are not daft they have been buying star performers from the top 6 or so clubs for a couple of years now, they know that even if he doesn't work out he weakens the team he has left. Think about it for a minute, they are champions they have champions league to offer they pay huge wages and can afford any price, If there is someone better available why arent they getting him?
£20m is not enough, they can afford more, look what we had to pay for players.
RNred

But they are smarter now i suppose, with 20m there are other quality CBs they can get. if we want more, (well u have to see 20m is a huge amount for a CB like skrtel) they might just bail out n go for another.

in november we were all talking about how bad skrtel was.....came back well tho aided by d.agger, but looked lost again once agger was out......take the £20m and use it to rebuild

Hi ed's, have we agreed a fee for Gylfi and if not pardon my ignorance how come we are speaking to him.

Thanks for all your great work.

I only ask because Babbel has said that only Swansea agreed a fee or something so I was just a bit confused

If carra starts in the first team,then nothings going to change,had his time,excellent servant,but to old,slow,bad decision making,bad positioning,and to much to say,team mates scared to move,bad coates to start,if carra is in,its another sh-t season looming

Coates is not good, have you seen him play?

Carra can still do it.

Take it you dont like him then lol.

Wouldn't say that,i loved mike tyson in his hay day,but seeing him get beat by danny williams and kevin mcbride tells you its over,same with carra...

21 Jun 2012 09:19:01
Skytle/A.Johnson swap?
Fair deal?

Not a chance would AJ really improve us that much we should use the money to go towards Munian or Ramirez as we have some top young cb in the youth like Sama wisdom plus Kelly Coates but I would like a versatile player like Isla as it would allow us to sell spearing

Not for johnson, there are better players out there for that value. johnson is just another downing waiting to happen

21 Jun 2012 09:09:16
This site is a lot more sensible this year as we are asking for top players who we have a chance of getting eg Munian susaeta Ramirez de Jong sigardson soldado tello etc
A couple of those are unlikely but not unrealistic like last year were we going to buy aguero as our marquee signing plus mata young sisooko and Turan plus another 100 million

21 Jun 2012 08:22:49
If skrtel leaves it just shows the owners have to sell to buy. {Ed005's Note - Absolute rubbish. Don't make assumptions.}

How do you come up with that one sherlock?

every player has a value and skrtels id say is well under £20mil so take the offer if its there.

LAVERS

No it means he wants to leave cheers pk

This would fit in well with FSG's policy of selling at the peak for maximum profit and as far as I came concerned £20 million for skrtel is most definitely maximum profit.

Jolly Red

I think at lfc we don't sell at the right time and now is the right time for skrtel as he has had a great season but that just happened to coincide with Agger been fit

He didn't look as good with carra plus we can get good money which can be thrown towards the transfer kitty

What about selling Torres for max profit? Was that a good thing too? Torres=Traiter Skirtle=sacrificial lamb ?

I think if any club wants m skirtel for £20 mil its just too good to turn down fsg dont seem to have a policy of selling players torres and raul m made it clear they wanted to go .

Any chance of us replacing Pepe Reina with the Anfield goal posts? They shut us out all last season.

21 Jun 2012 08:19:27
Would anyone buy Milner based on his performance in the Euros? He looks gash to me.

Hes rubbish. RedTurk

Would it not be ironic if England done really well in the Euros after Redturk's anti British footballer rants all season?

The Irish Rover

He is so over rated we should try for victor moses from wigan. Colin

His posts they said he is a red,
RedTurk, RedTurk,
English can't play footy he said,
RedTurk, RedTurk,
Henderson, Downing and Carroll
could'nt score in a turkish brothel
RedTurk, RedTurk,

Haha Irish Rover! Or big Andy scoring a wonder goal winner in the final. That's as good a reason to get behind England as I can think of - to p*ss off RedTurk!

21 Jun 2012 07:27:38
My question is last season our first captn was Stevie, second Carra, third Reina, then Kuyt, and then Skirtel. So Stevie can miss again lots f matches, Carra is too old and will also miss lots of matches, Reina will be sold, and if Skirtel is gone - WHATS'S UP BOYS shall we have a leaders in our team, shall we have a team, smthing is not right

Agger should be captain

What a larf Agger misses half a season each year, Gerrard has some time off due to a serious injury however he's does not miss half a year each year through injury like Agger.

Get it into perspective

Gerrard, Agger, Lucas, even Suarez since he was captain at Ajax but recent events do not reflect well on him (but if Terry can be a captain of Chelsea, who knows)

Jolly Red

You mean when and if Captain Fantastic SG and Carra retires?

Captain Carroll! = Captain Caveman!

Agger should be made vice captain or even lucus. I may get slated for this but think Suarez would be a superb leader from the front due to his work rate.
Thanks.

I say Agger,

1. he's the best leader of the back 4 when it was

Enrique - Agger - Skrtel - Johnson

2. captain of denmark

Carra's captaincy right now, looks more of a seniority decision to me. but still, Gerrard looks alot better now, just because he missed alot of last season dont mean he'll miss more of this season, who knows.

Why do people think Aquilani will go??... Because he said he didn't want to play in England some seasons ago don't mean he feels the same. More so after seeing how his own country clubs r taking long to sign him. One thing which baffled me is why RH or RB didn't play him. In the 9 games he has started for us, we have won 7, drawn 2 and lost 1. Also he has proved his fitness by playing 33 games for Juve and i guess 24 games for AC. You people say that his agent is trying to cheat us again by saying he is happy to stay but what if he is indeed happy to stayy and prove his worth. Btw if there is one person who i would sell now, its Adam. Even Aquilani outshone him and is not wanted by manager and fans yet this old piece of lump is adored right from when we were linked with him...

Do you not read the reports about poor attitude, lazy, can't be bothered in training, faking illness/sickness etc etc???

Is that reports in our reliable British media, say no more it must be bloody true then. So a Lancaster bomber was found on the moon then, well I never.

'in the 9 games he has started for us, we have won 7, drawn 2 and lost 1.'

great stats i admit but even by aquilani's standards i make them mathematically impossible...

21 Jun 2012 05:19:15
Ed's with these rumours of Reina,skrtel,Luis possibly all being sold apart from Luis would it be to get the wage bill down(luis for obvious reasons as mentioned before) or move them on whilst they are worth a bit? As with Skrt's and Pepe theres possibly £40m in transfer fees there,and with luis another £35-40M? Thats quite a kitty for BR if it happened! If PR go's what about Doni or Jones taking his place? We have coates to cover Skrt's, then just bring in a class forward to replace Luis.(Personally i hope luis stays,at least for another season).

Lee73

Keep Suarez spend money on top keeper a versatile defender Munian Ramirez and a top striker we could so buy wanyama from Celtic as he will be a top player

This will cost about 70 million but but we recoup most of it

Any chance of a player-profile on Milos Krasic Ed's? {Ed005's Note - Already is one.}

I dont think there is one...

Kaizer

Can't find krasic on player profiles {Ed005's Note - Sorry there's not one but it has been suggested about 100 times one will be made by the editor who does it when he gets around to it.}

21 Jun 2012 02:12:14
other than sigurdsson coming in, and a few reports on krasic at 6 million, there isn't really any solid information on the Liverpool targets under BR, just because Kenny was told he would get 25 million doesn't mean this will be the same for Brendan no one can really know what is going on in the transfer market for Liverpool, when Brendan was offered the job i highly doubt he would have accepted it if he was going to only get 25 million to turn Liverpool into a team at least competing for the top four, i don't think even mourinho could do that. defensively we are solid maybe need another cb as carra is getting on, i think we need back up for lucas, other than diame whos going to hammers there is no news but with aquaman back due to no interest he may fit in with that role although not ideal but will help with funds for other positions, atleast two pacey wingers, an attacking midfielder (probably sigurdsson), and a striker who can play out wide too an ideal target who would be affordable and price efficient would be luuk de jong or sturridge. what you think eds? great site btw - want some macca rumours!

21 Jun 2012 01:43:34
I don't think selling Skrtel would be a bad thing. Rodgers likes to build from the back and Skrtel is not a great passer. His partnership with Agger worked cause Skrtel was the "destroyer" with Agger as more of a ball mover. However in Rodgers system it may work better to have 2 ball movers. If we can sell Skrtel for 20 mil, spend half on another defender who has skill, and move Kelly to CB I think we'd be well off. I wouldn't be completely against giving Kelly alot of time at CB. An Agger/Kelly partnership could work well, plus we have Coates. At some point Kelly and Coates have to be thrown into the deep end of the pool and see if they can swim. Im not saying shop Skrtel around but if a big bid comes in, I say sell him, give time to Kelly and Coates and use the money to fund other signings.

Tbh do you really need 2 ball playing centre backs I mean how much football is going to be played at the back. I think it's too good of a partnership to break up this year. A lot more to be worked on. However I do agree that dagger, coates and Kelly are the future and Skytel could well be off next summer. CQ

Simplistic.

Kelly is not srong ewnogh for RB never mind CB

Kelly is totally over Rated since he was injured about a year ago he's never been the same.

You dont need to buy another player... do you not remember we have two able players to play in that position. Kelly and Coates and back up from Carragher

Moneyball, what's Moneyball...? It's all Tiki-Taka now!

Nicklas Bendtner has had really good Euro 2012 and seems to be able to score goals with his head and has been in the premiership for the last 5 seasons. He knows the score and has been around. He should be able to convert all those crosses. Sunderland have him on loan, but I think Arsenal would want him back for a season. He is a very good target man.

We already have a much better target man

20 Jun 2012 23:54:34
How come Liverpool didn't managed to get Diame from wigan on a free. Its shocking we can't attract cover for Lucas. {Ed005's Note - Maybe that's why he didn't come, because he didn't want to be cover for Lucas.}

20 Jun 2012 23:38:51
Ed have you seen anyone at Euro 2012, that you think is a breakout star for the future (next hot thing) {Ed001's Note - no, I don't think any youngster has really stood out, most have failed to live up to their hype.}

I really liked Alan Dzagoev, however its spelt.

Only the second coming of Gerrard!!

LIVERPRES

Alan Dzagoev is bull, he will nose bleed in the premiership Arsenals Arsen was the real money maker in the Euros, but he did show his age.

Slowed right down by the third game, seemed like his old premiership speed. He became slow again. He is good but too slow for the premiership, stamia gone. he isn't up for the premiership. The technical side of his game is good, but these russian guys don't like tracking back. Alot of workrate need in the premierhsip and these players wont make it

Hi eds. Great work you guys are doing. I've followed this site for 3 years now and really appreciate your efforts. I understand if you don't post websites, but it may ATLEAST reduce the abusive comments some of our few clueless fans post if they'd read into this blog from 'the swiss rambler'. It's a detailed account of our finances at the club & it'll open a few peoples eyes before they comment on anything to do with finances. If not I hope yourselves find it interesting atleast even if you don't post it. (its not mine by the way! Some real interesting insight into italian clubs aswell! No way they can afford reina by the looks of their accounts!)
Regards,
Yooooous! {Ed001's Note - I have suggested that blog a number of times in the past, chatted with the guy who runs it a little, it is an excellent blog on football finances. But be warned, anyone that looks at it, it is very in depth and not a quick read.}

Hey ed's, another question, do you have information on whether Liverpool will go for a striker like morata which we have been linked with today or one like soldado? Are we looking at a 'top' striker or like morata, a younger one who is not quite there not being in our regular starting 11? In my opinion, surely someone like a morata would be better and cheaper for cover for andy Carroll who will presumedly start fairly regulary next season? What's your views ed's if possible?

Stevie_D {Ed001's Note - I would expect the younger option would be the most likely, if the right one is available.}

I doubt your a teeno mate

I've got an Meijer shirt. Eric 'The Butcher' may have been crap, but he's still a legend.

20 Jun 2012 22:16:30
First off, massive thanks to the nameless poster who named virtually every regular but me! .... ;) all is forgiven, i just wanted to ask Ed, with Suarez likely to go wide left next year, and Carroll hitting form, surely all we need is a back up striker (possibly Borini) and a right winger (Krasic); Do you think these two guys (along with Sigurdsson) could be a realistic summer (maybe not these players, but players in this price range and of this calibre)? I can't see us needing anybody else unless someone is sold.. Possibly a back up left back, but i think the squad will push for a CL spot next year with 3 shrewd signings.

YNWA! (Adam) {Ed001's Note - yes I do, they should both be reasonably priced. Not so sure about a left back though, surely Robinson can provide cover?}

I agree with your reasoning Adam mate, but we desperately need a DM who is capable of covering for Lucas.

Think about those who have left already(released).

Plus - Cole, Aquilani, poss Maxi, Pacheco + a few others leaving?

The squad is looking pretty thin if you ask me(yes, the owners strategy is reduce the wage bill).

We need an agile striker, Krasic & a very good DM. Possibly a left back and centre back too..

Thoughts..

Lee YNWA

Welcome back Ed001, and Robinson is a good shout.. do you think hes ready? Will never forget him outpacing Theo Walcott once against Arsenal! Looks excellent, but is he more than just a prospect now? Does he train with the first team even?

YNWA! (Adam) {Ed005's Note - I am of the personal belief that that players his age aren't physically or mentally ready for first-team football mate. The odd appearence for me is great and gives them experience but not regularly.}

Dont feel disheartened m8, that poster didnt mention me either and im on here virtually every day, granted its mostly while im led in bed so i can read the whole days post in 1 go, but yea, its all good!

What's wrong with people keep banging on about getting shot of Pepe Reina. Saying his past his prime and tosh like that. He is the best keeper we have had in decades and has been and still is and still will be as good as if not better than any of the keepers in the prem. He is world class. Joe Heart is possibly better but thats it. Look how hard it is the replace a top keeper. I can't honestly believe any liverpool fan would want him to leave
