{Ed001's Note - I am really sorry I just found that, it has been removed, the editor who read it must have just not spotted it.}

No worries, I'm more shocked at the person who worte it. It was completely unnecessary, no place for it anywhere.

Stu {Ed005's Note - It was my fault it got through, an honest mistake. We don't tolerate such disgusting things being said. I apologies for my mistake and to anyone offended.}

Looks like Ashley Young may not be arriving, he brought a new house in Hertfordshire recently so it may look like he's going near London, possibly Spurs.

Noo.Spurs have as Midfielder Sandro, Bale, Modric, Van der Vaart, Pienaa, Lennon

Only 2 decent wingers there. Harry has always been a long term admirer of Young.

Ed005's Note - I am calm. I do believe you were the one ranting. CL football has been mentioned however it has not been used as the main reasons. Perhaps if you read back you would get an explanation as to why Ed002 and Ed001 in particular do not believe players such as Sanchez or Hazard will come. Now that we are debt free we can be competitive in the transfer market but I honestly don't believe we could match Chelsea, Barcelona, R.Madrid in the market. Take someone like Kun Agero for example - excess of £10m per year wages, on top of a transfer fee of over £40m. I doubt we could match that.}

I never mentioned that we could compete with Barca or Real. . .but on the subject of Real. . money does not always buy you titles. . .Real are a squad of individuals much like City. . . .Real have won nothing for a number of years now. . . main reason. . interfering owners picking the team. . . eg. did you see Abramovich's face when he saw his precious no.9 being subbed again on Sunday. . he wasn't happy. . why? he wanted Torres not Anchelotti. . same crap drove the special one outta the bridge a few yrs ago when the russian bought his buddy Shevchenko for 30million. . .like Torres only he wanted him. . . 80 million on 2 guys. . one dissappeared a flop the other having a mare in every game since he switched to the bright lights. . on the other hand Luis has nee a breath of fresh air since he came to us. .also remember Nando has played in PL for 3yrs Luis has had 5 matches. . . who would I rather have we have him thank god. . its not all about the Aguero's of this world. . .for me its about hungry players who want to succeed at the highest level. . . we lost Torres/ Mascherano/ and Alonso in 2yrs only Xabi would I want back. . they others are nothing but mercnaries. . . .there are a wealth of young world class players out there who would not cost the earth. . and with Kennys fatherly approach I know we can compete with all those clubs mentioned. {Ed005's Note - I would totally agree with everything you said there mate. I do believe we can attract top quality players however the players in question like Sanchez and Hazard are unlikely due to mentioned reasons.}

21 Mar 2011 23:25:00
If we are looking for a striker, I think we need to find a quality striker who won't complain about sitting in the bench. But who? any of the editors have an idea? {Ed005's Note - Kenny isn't buying a striker to put him on the bench. He wants to have three good strikers in the squad going in to next season so he can rotate if needbe. Benzema and Gervinho have been mentioned.}

People sayin baines won't be arriving, at least state why you think this or give an opinion, instead of just saying he 'wont' be coming. There is interest from Liverpool but everton will not want to sell, and although baines is a liverpool fan, it doesn't mean he will join. but don't say he won't be, without anything to back it up.

jay b {Ed005's Note - When people say he "won't be coming" perhaps this is their opinion.}

Hi ed all this talk of the stadium wat to do do we renevate ANFIELD or move on to pastures new.

well im afraid we have to weigh up all the pros and cons and can only see 1 outcome we need to move on to a new ground, i no some will disagree with me as i can't manage to get to ANFIELD on a regular basis as i live in the midlands.

but i think moving will at first cost us a small fortune but we could surely make it pay for it self as ARSENAL has done and we could finally have a stadium to rival old trafford so i would go for a new 75-80.000 for starters and go from there as it would give us a small fortune in the long run {Ed005's Note - There are pros and cons for both cases mate. However most fans seem to prefer staying at Anfield. And I'd prefer that also, as it would be a lot cheaper and we'd get to stay at our beloved home.}

It would be like being back in the care of H&G!}

To Bob The red. .

If your jinx really is that bad I'm sure we can get enough LFC fans to chip in a tenner each and send you on holiday for a year or two. If you can't see the games, we'll just keep winning and get number 19 and 20. .

Cheers. .

All in all, a centre-back should be bottom of our transfer priorities list, if on it at all. We have by far the best young defensive talent in the country coming through. There's no need to stifle that talent and waste money on players who will block their path to the first team.

Martin

. . . . . . .

Yeah, it would stupid of us to waste money on what is arguably our strongest position. Also, if all goes well, we also have wisdom coming through the youth team who looks like he could make the first team in the next couple of years.

Cheers for your ideas

Skysports is saying that Aqua can go for £14m.
Good riddance, another amazing Benitez buy.
We never did recover from the loss of Alonso and Mascherano.
We need those positions replaced to stand a chance of winning something next season! Our midfield is CACK.
Alonso replacement - Charlie Adam
Masch replacement - Fernando Gago.

Abel Xavier to name one?
Besides, Everton are skint! Plus Baines isn't a dirty blue nose like you, he is a pure red like us.

Matt Jarvis!
Can't believe Wolves pinched him on a free from Gillingham! I've seen him play at Priestfield's before and scored a cracking goal and I knew he'd make it at the top level one day.
Unfortunately, not worth. £15m was it quoted? Nah. Though, if wolves go down. so will the pricetag.

Gents, Baines rumour is going haywire today apparently contact has been made to try and get something done before end of the season. It is mooted that moyes needs to ()lose two players/ raise 15 mill and he feels a left back will be easier to replace than rodders or fellaini. . .looks like any left back in the championship will have to do because he won't get much of the fee to put back in to first team affairs! imho this could be a dream move not only for baines but for carroll too
Jay Mc

Isn't there a left back currently playing in the Championship that is ours?
Swap deal? We get the price of a bag crisps knocked off the cost of Baines.

Ed005's Note - You ought to go to specsavers then. When asked why players won't come to the club i.e. Hazard, Sanchez - I do believe playing Champions League football has barely been mentioned. In regards to Sanchez, his dream seems to be to play for Man Utd however you must remember that when there is interest from Chelsea for example, clubs like Udinese will demand massive fees and in terms of wages also we can't compete. Hazard has no interest in Liverpool as his dream is to play for Arsenal. Perhaps less selective reading and more in depth reading on your part is required. Me and the other eds have maintained that we can still attract top players. I suggest you read back before coming on here with your nonsense rant.} Ed005 you need to calm down. . .I was merely using those players as it was mentioned on an earlier post by someone. . never said I wanted them but it was shot down by an ed. . reason. . he said they want champs league football. . also I believe we can compete financially with Man Ure/ Chelsea/ Arsenal and Spurs but no one not even Barca can compete with City. . . their wage structure is crazy. . the main point I was trying to get across was we are far better equipped to get back to where we want to be now that our club is being run properly and privately, if we do target top class players
now they will see this club is being run in a positive way. . .no one would have touched us with a barge-pole 2yrs ago. . . . .now we have money that will be made available in the summer. . .no no amount has been mentioned. .which is the correct way. . .strenghten where it needs to be strengthen. . .and cut where cuts can be made. . . it wasn't a rant merely standing up foor my club. . .ed005. . .did ed003 upset you or something. . he thought my post was very good?? ?

Who would you like to see then mate?
I'd personally like us to sell kyrgiakos and let ayala and wilson take over his position next season, see how they go.

Stu
- - - - - - - - - - -

I agree. Ayala has been one of the best defenders in the Championship during his loan spells at Hull and Derby. He has everything to make it in the Prem: he's strong, aerially dominant, composed on the ball and (most importantly) can usher the ball out of defence and start an attack without lumping it up - much like Agger.
Wilson is a very talented centre-back. He is more aggressive and no-nonsense than Ayala and also poses a big offensive threat at corners and free-kicks. He's looked decent at left-back, but I think once he is moved back into the centre we'll see a more composed and skilful player.
I have a feeling the pair will partner each other in a fair few games next season and I can only see a positive outcome; hopefully then we won't have to worry that if Agger gets injured our entire defence will come crumbling down around itself like it has on many an occasion this season.

All in all, a centre-back should be bottom of our transfer priorities list, if on it at all. We have by far the best young defensive talent in the country coming through. There's no need to stifle that talent and waste money on players who will block their path to the first team.

Ed just been reading that we had a last gasp bid for llorente at 30m rejected is this true and do you think we will go back? {Ed002's Note - There was a bid and Liverpool may go back. There is interest from elsewhere: Bayern, Spurs and others.}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

its very unlikely that we would sign llorente, as we have an exact replica already, who is better, younger more hard working and a tougher player in ANDY CARROL!
the only strikers i see us getting, that is if we are looking for one, would be Bojan, VanWolfswinkle and Benzema.

Harry5:)YNWA
- - - - - - - - - - -
Andy Carrol better than Llorente?? I don't think so mate. I hope Carrol turns out to be an Anfield legend but if we bought Llorente in the summer I guarantee he would very quickly play himself into the team as first choice alongside Luis. And for you to even consider the awful vanwolfswinkle is laughable

{Ed001's Note - that is exactly what I think mate, when we ruled Europe we had very few superstars. What we had was 11 very good players who would run themselves into the ground for their team mates.}

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

It was a different era with less marketing and publicity. Players like Barnes, Dalglish, Keegan, McDermott would all be superstars today and command fees of 15m ++

21 Mar 2011 22:32:22
Just some business I've heard going round about who we may be looking at in the summer:
Taye Taiwo (Free and would improve our African/ Nigerian fanbase)
Gary Cahill (Has a good 6 years ahead of him, however is pricey and believe Shawcross may be considered instead)
Matt Jarvis (Wouldn't cost the earth and can do a job, again increases English quota)
Sylvain Marveaux (free, tricky winger who offers much needed width and depth)
Charlie Adam (just seems likely he will now)
Aaron Lennon (Johnson may be used as a make-weight in a deal)
Karim Benzema (seems the most likely out of the names being thrown around) {Ed005's Note - I think Wolves were quoting pretty hefty prices for Jarvis, certainly more than would make the deal worthwhile. And personally mate I don't want to see Lennon near Liverpool. His final ball is shocking to say the least.}

This is directed towards the ed's on this page. . . I read this page everyday, as I am, and have been a liverpool supporter for over 30yrs. . one thing that gets right up my wick though is why the ed's continue to rubbish 90% of players linked to us because they say they want champs league football. . . well we all want that guys. . .the assumption is though, is that we will never compete in it again, you guys say Hazard, Sanchez, or any other top class players won't come to us because we can't offer them what they want, well Suarez came, Carroll came, and if a few others come on board in the summer. . .WE WE BE BACK IN THE TOP 4 of the EPL. . ffs look at the season we've had and we're in 6th. . .bad an all as we are we could(outside chance) still get 5th. . . look at all the players city have signed over the past 2 seasons and its only next season will they achieve thier goal. . .bottom line is, is that if you can convince these guys that we've been linked with that we are serious about the direction we intend to go. . .the old regime of G&H, Parry & Purslow are gone now. . The Liverpool way is back. . .and all the affairs are kept in house again. . . we became unprofessional under the previous owners but thankfully that's all in the past now. . finally to suggest that we cannot attract top players, because we won't be in next yrs champs league is a laughable statement. . . .the guys who will arrive. . will understand the fully the family that is Liverpool Football Club. . . .we are crying out for 4 players max to get into the top 4 again (note I only said top 4 for now) 2 wingers, a defender and a striker. We can and will get our targets in the summer. . . .we will offload the mediocrity that has been the one of reasons for our demise , the mismanagement of our club being the other. . .we have a guy at the helm now, who lives and breathes our great club, we now have owners who fully understand the liverpool way. . and finally we now have the financial stability to compete at the highest level possible. in a short time the foundation has been relaid a very solid foundation. . . .we have shown our intent in January. . . but this summer we will show the PL, we are most certainly back. . .it takes one good season to get into the champs league(ask spurs) Kenny, Damien, John H & Tom W are not so foolish to involve themselves in our club if they didn't believe they would succeed, these guys are businessmen in sports. . .who know what it takes to get to the summit. . . . this season will be one to forget. . Judge us after the 2011-2012 season. . . . .Ed's players want to see a forward direction. . .they will give a season way from CL, rebuild the home and family that is Liverpool Football Club. {Ed005's Note - You ought to go to specsavers then. Wel ed would it take long to increase the capacity of anfield to 60000? how many corporate boxes does the emerites have? {Ed005's Note - I'm not sure, I imagine it would take up to a year, maybe more.}

- - - - - - - - -

It could take up to a year, like Ed said, but if NESV value the gate receipts as much as they should, it is theoretically possible to upgrade to 60,000 during the 3 months of the summer break. This does rely, however, on development starting within a week or two of the last home game against Tottenham. Re-developing over the summer would cost a little bit more than re-developing over a longer period of time due to time constraints and the fairly large workforce required to complete the process within those constraints.

Martin {Ed005's Note - I know nothing of construction however I would be happy if it could be done in that time period. Although that would be Henry's decision.}

Hi Ed I've been talking to a mate who insists he is in the know and he has said that we may be looking at Tripy Makonda. Can't say I know anything about the lad but it seems like such an unusual and unlikely name to pluck out of thin air I'm wondering if there may be something in it. What do you think {Ed002's Note - I know he plays for PSG but no nothing of him at all. I am not even sure if he plays in teh first team yet.}
- - - - - - - - - - - -
Could this be the sort of player that Comolli would be looking at? {Ed005's Note - It would come as no surprise, given that Comolli knows the French league very well and will be looking to get in younger players.}

21 Mar 2011 21:32:22
We could easily afford all three of Shawcross, Cahill and Dann. The problem is that they're all terrible players.
Cahill is prone to hoofing and is incredibly poor positionally. Shawcross is the Prince of Hoofing (after King Carra, of course), he is useless on the ground and lacks any composure whatsoever. Dann is the most overrated defender in England, the only reason he gets so many clean sheets is because all Brum do is play 10 defenders and then some tall fella to take down the hoofs. Dann fits perfectly into this system - thus, he wouldn't even make the bench with us.

Martin

Ed just been reading that we had a last gasp bid for llorente at 30m rejected is this true and do you think we will go back? {Ed002's Note - There was a bid and Liverpool may go back. There is interest from elsewhere: Bayern, Spurs and others.}

Ed can't see him goin to da spuds don't think he even knows who they are ha and him and Gomez are the same type of player so can't see him goin to bayern who would you say are in the driving seat for his signature? {Ed005's Note - I would say Real Madrid are in pole position for his signature. Perez wants more Spanish players - and planned to sell Benzema to fund the Llorente deal. However Benzema is on form so perhaps they'll keep him, but who knows?}

Ed I don't know why people say we have got "no chance" of signing hazard. I understand it is unlikely but we have watched him lots of times and according to reports in belgium and france this week we put a bid of 16 miliion euros in last week. Links came from jeremy_lfc on twitter? Please reply {Ed001's Note - the reason being is that he wants Champions League football.}

Bob the Red i had a similar problem with betting on liverpool 10 years an not won anything, they let me down on the football sheet all the time aswel, but this weekend i had liverpool 2-0 winners, jus with the £3 i was gonna spend on my first pint, £30 in my back burner so although ur " jinx " seems alot worse than mine, stick with it the football gods are starting to smile on us again an im sure ur ordeal will come to an end

I think we should keep maxi as with him in the squad it could up chances of aguero so leave him alone until aguero moves somewhere if not us then sell him or pay someone to take him from us with poulsen! {Ed005's Note - It won't up our chances of Aguero at all. Regardless of whether Aguero wants to come or not his wages are over £10m per year on top of what would be a transfer fee of atleast £40m. We won't, and can't afford that.}

I am a jinx. I'm convinced of it. Since the notion started to form in my head. . ummm about 20 years ago i really, really think i'm a jinx.

Never was as a child, everytime i went to watch we won, in fact one of two games out of about 300 i can ever remember losing was 2-0 to Aston Villa in 1979/ 80 when Denis Mortimer broke through and slotted the ball in and i cried all the way home in the back of the car, thinking the world had come to an end.

Recently in the last two decades the majority of my watching has been on the telly. I've posted before about this jinx. Work rota's mean i can walk in during a match and turn the tv on. By the time i've boiled the kettle and sat down, we've conceded. By the time i've drunk said tea the commentator has said "Liverpool have dropped off the pace in the last 5 mins. ." or "Liverpool do not look as comfortable as they did 5 mins ago"

It's starting to become a little bit of a worry. Whenever i book time off to actually watch the game, we lose or we play carp or both! If i place a bet on us i end up tearing the slip up well before the game has finished.

I'm finding i'm getting more and more negative about LFC and that is not the done thing as a fan is it? After Thursday night when i booked time off work to watch the game i vowed to miss Sunday's game and not even listen, check the score or anything.

I also vowed not to think about the game, not wonder how we were getting on etc.etc. On the way home from managing my youth team, i didn't put the radio on or nothing. I got in. Put the kettle on and walked into the living room. My daughter had the footy on just as Kuyt was about to step up and take the pen! Can you believe that?

My first thought was 'i've jinxed this' so out the room i went and told my daughter to turn the telly off. We win 2-0 and i feel just as deflated today as i did last Thursday night. We won because i wasn't watching.

The last bastion of my life has ended. Is this hell? Having to endure 93 mins of silence just so your team can take 3 points? I can't possibly take this any longer.

You will see if i managed to keep my resolve next week against WBA. If we win, i'm in purgatory, if we lose, I cracked under pressure and tuned in.

I'm sorry in advance.

Bob the Red

{Ed002's Note - I had the same problem - found it went away when I stopped drinking tea.}

"I see we are being linked with fernando gago for a possible 8 million summer move. I believe at that price it as got to be great business didn't they pay around 20 million for him.I know he hasnt played much this season, but he is a quick solid defensive midfielder and at 24 yrs of age he his the exact profile that comolli wants to identify.I would deffo like this signing 8 million for Gago what a steal."

At that price, I'd be snapping Madrid's hand off for him! An absolute bargain.
Exactly what we need, Poulsen is far too under par for me. Couldn't pass water, that bloke.
I think we need a solid anchoring midfielder such as Gago to link the team together. It doesn't matter who you've got upfront, your chances of scoring are severely slashed if you can't provide for them.
We need Gago, and Lucas/ Spearing as backup. Spearing was cracking on the weekend!
Then Gerrard as an advanced midfielder, with Meireles (spelling) and/ or Adam as backup.
Need fast wingers too - Young, Turan ect.

Midfield is our weakest area IMO, and he would be ideal.

There seems to be lots of opinions regarding attacking positions without looking at central defenders: Carra, on the downsde of a great career next season squad player, Skrtle, seems to lack confidence, Agger good player injury prone, are the 3 players mentioned part of the reason for Pepe's unhappiness? For me a mobile, good header, and organiser is needed I doubt we can afford Cahill, Shawcross, Dann looks good at Brum but with us I don't know anyone ot realistic names.
- - - - - - - - - - -

We could easily afford all three of Shawcross, Cahill and Dann. The problem is that they're all terrible players.
Cahill is prone to hoofing and is incredibly poor positionally. Shawcross is the Prince of Hoofing (after King Carra, of course), he is useless on the ground and lacks any composure whatsoever. Dann is the most overrated defender in England, the only reason he gets so many clean sheets is because all Brum do is play 10 defenders and then some tall fella to take down the hoofs. Dann fits perfectly into this system - thus, he wouldn't even make the bench with us.

Ed your reply about hazard wanting champions league football. Every player wants that however if the club can convince him that we are buying top players then I would think he would be interested. Although there are other clubs in for him, arsenal never spend 20M + on a player and if he went to real madrid he knows that he wouldn't play {Ed002's Note - Don't forget he has also inked a new contract at Lille. He won't be moving to Liverpool anytime soon.}

To lavers and ed! i thouhht you were liverpool fans? ss you seem to know a lot about lennon & kranjcar? lennons crossing has improved twofold and as for kranjcar if you think that a player who losrs consentration and who is easly knocked off the ball he is also not one for working back which lennon does! so if your looking for that kranjcar kinda player then im sure he would settle in at liverpool! but don't judge lennon by motd which by your comments you do?

. . . . . .

I didn't say anything about lennon really, but while were on the subject I agree with ed. Lennon is absolutely useless at crossing a decent ball into the box.
I don't know what his stats are for assists and that but I can't imagine them being that good. He will hit the ball to long or not even beat the first defender. I've not based this of MOTD as I can't be doing with the program, I watch football first.
As for kranjar I wouldn't go for him he was good at Portsmouth but since he's been at spuds he's been half the player.

Ed correct me if I'm wrong but would u agree that it's not superstars that we need it's more a case of people who realise what it means to fight for the red shirt , don't get me wrong 1 or 2 quality world class players wouldn't go a miss but all the other great Liverpool sides never had many world beaters but instead made a name out of players by giving them the freedom to express themselves on the pitch
. . . The chef kd7 YNWA JFT96 {Ed001's Note - that is exactly what I think mate, when we ruled Europe we had very few superstars. What we had was 11 very good players who would run themselves into the ground for their team mates.}

Am from bootle which once upon a time wasn't part of Liverpool some still say it's not. So am I a true red?? This true red stuff about being born in the l post code is a load of boll*cks yes it does my head in when you stand on the kop and at times carnt hear a scows accent, but it's the success and Liverpool way that ways Liverpool loved around the world. And if the true reds that are doing the chatting know there fan base they will know that there are Liverpool fanatics as far as the far east and BELIEVE YOU ME THEY ARE LFC FANATICS! considering they live the other side of the world. How many of the fans that calling the fans for not being true fans would do what the far east fans do. Travel half way round world on years wage to see reds? How many would travel continents just to watch needless friendleese, ( pre season ) in far east. Am sure the SCOUSE FANS that slating outside support are kids. And not got the gist that LFC is worldwide club and fans around the world are welcome. I suppose they would like the club like Everton with no real fan base, outside the 30,000 they just about fill at home games, sooner they realize it's outside fans that buy merchandise and buy tickets, the better as I find it offencive to hear of outside liverpol post code to be call half fans. End just dong post anymore comments on it now it's boring the f*c* out of me now.

I think some realism is required with transfer targets as the Champions and Europa leagues competitions will be out of our grasp unfortunately. Unless we pay stupid wags to attract 'star' players it won't happen. KK has a good eye for talent that will compliment our style and the Liverpool way. Hence, Adams, Jarvis etc who would fit the way we play and have a point to prove at a big club. The financial rsetrictions in respect of turnover financially in relation to wages in addition to homegrown player rules does require a more realistic approach to targets and supports the progress of youth talent. All these issues require greater depth and analysis of transfer targets, which in KK we have an astute manager to ensure we bring the right players in. Brief note on who is a red or not, myself being a scouse red of 40 years whom has worked across the Northwest of England and now for many years in North Wales have encountered many fellow reds who are not native scousers but just as committed to our cause. I welcome them and accept them and feel if they need 'educating' in any way as to past and current issues then why not pass on our wisdom, culture, heritage and hand of friendship, that's what true reds ar all about. I have had to explain our history to my son and he will to his kids. YNWA

Anyway there were a number reports over the weekend stating Liverpool are buying Baines and Ashley Young, are these just a re-hash of old news?

We don't need a team of superstars, we need 2 trust kk to choose the right players 2 b effective n get results.

We r not as far away as the media thinks. Our problem has been lack of quality within the squad, our best 11 is up there.

So the addition 5 quality players along with the likes of flannigan, suso, Stirling, jonjo n Ayala
Will give us a gud squad.

It's crutial camolli does his job n gets the players in early so kk n steve av full preseason with full squad, last 2 years had poor preseson n poor start 2 season.

The only thing that for sure is that

soto
aurelio
konch
poulsen
ngog
insue
el zhar
degen
jovanovic
aqua
maxi

will be replaced by new players and youngsters.
you cannot replace them in 1 trnasfer window.
if we can sell 6/ 7 of them i will be happy, for me the most important thing is that we replace them with class players.
if we get 4 class players in summer the team will be more dominating games, and when a youngster gets some chances it will be easier for them to settle in a strong side.
we might have some kelly's coming soon given a chance in a stong team and safe us money
the names above should pay for 2 stars and the rest will come from the budget that we will have.
7 players never play anyway.
we need to get to a situation that we so strong that every year we only need to buy 2 players.
i believe next year we will make the top 4, and the year we will play for the league.
HENRY knowes he needs to invest this summer, all his plans and depend how we do on the pitch.

{Editorial Missive: We are done with all of these what makes a red a red, born within the sound of foghorns etc. posts and are not going to post essays from other sites. Some folks are getting PO with the audacity that a true red could never be born outside of spitting distance of Anfield and a number of the posts are becoming offensive. So the easiest solution is to just to end it.}

What makes a Red a Red? Are some Reds more Red than others? Are all Reds considered equal, or are some Reds just more equal than the rest?
Since the tumultuous reign of Hicks & Gillett ended the managerial career of Rafa Benitez; oversaw the rise to prominence of Christian Purslow and introduced a period in Liverpool history where every tabloid appeared to have free access to source inside scoop after inside scoop; there has been an ever increasing regularity to the "you are not a real Red" denouncement, "I'm more Red than thou!"
And so, again, I feel this urge to ask the question, "what makes a Red a Red?"
You see, for me being a Red is a case of identity - not a simple concept at the best of times, but when speaking of the club I love, the club I know you love, it is best described, for me, as a sense of empathy.
If you want to cry when we lose and cheer when we score; you, to me, are a Red. When the outcome of your day can be defined by LFC's results on the pitch; you, in my mind, are a Red. When you seek out the company of other Reds for a sense of camaraderie, of belonging; surely, you are a bona-fide Red.
So how are you more Red than I, or I more Red than you; when we support the same team and our emotions crest and fall to the same highs and lows? And, perhaps, more importantly - why would I even want to make you feel as though you were any less of a Red?
Is there a hierarchy that we have not been made aware of; one based on memories, experiences or the number of games we attend? Is geography a consideration; does Red fade with distance, the way quality on a long distance call can sometimes degrade? Perhaps there is a test to be passed at induction; where rank will be assigned based on the players you can name and the era in which they played.
If so, I didn't get that memo - and if I had, I think I would have sent it back unread.
You see, you could make the argument that distance makes the heart grow fonder; that it takes more dedication to be an overseas Red. One could put forward the view that tales of past endeavours, handed down through the generations create the mystique that results in a more awe-inspired younger Red.
When we speak of those who would make disheartening and taunting comments about Munich, we all can agree those are disillusioned and disappointing Reds. If you are asked why we do not buy the Sun and despise Kelvin MacKenzie by a Liverpool supporter, we know we have found an uninformed Red.
However, whilst we may react to the disappointing sect with contempt, confusion or derision; should we really attempt to disown and cast them out? When you find yourself explaining the Sun's role in desecrating the memories of Hillsborough, do we honestly think it is right to displace our anger onto those Reds that did not know?
Instead, are these not opportunities for education, enlightenment - to teach and help them find out, learn what is wrong and how Reds should conduct themselves? Does Liverpool FC not deserve our dedicated efforts to support and guide each other - surely that is what being a better Red should really be about?
We all probably have members of our own families that disappoint that leave the path of the straight and narrow or do so many different things that just serve to confound us. We have those members of the family who always ask questions; because they just didn't realise something or perhaps just want to know. But they remain members of the family, whether they are ignored, loved or never spoken about. They are linked to us genetically - part of our DNA regardless.
Because, as Shankly first taught us, and as his walking heir Dalglish is trying to remind us - we are all custodians of the fine traditions of this club, it does not belong to any one of us and we are strongest when we are united. So I ask again - why would we want to leave anyone feeling left out?
So when we interact with each other, perhaps it is time we remember - being a Red is about being that custodian, about linking the present and future to the past. We are all supposed to guide and support the newer and older supporters alike; lend a helping hand, be on hand to provide an answer or an informative fact. This is Liverpool FC, we have at times been proclaimed as the worlds greatest football fans. So should we not, perhaps, have a better idea than others of how we are meant to act?
Remember - This is The Liverpool Way and no Red should ever be made to feel they walk alone.
YNWA

not really a rumour is it? {Ed007's Note - No, but it is a good point, the subject should be put too bed, and we will probably not post much more about it}

I work as a Football Coach in Canada with a former Middlesborough academy coach who keeps in touch with some of his former players and he has told me today that liverpool have been in talks with aston villa for a winger, the winger is NOT Ashley Young but in fact Stewart Downing.

He said that Downing is more than ready to jump ship and move up to liverpool and that the deal will most likely be smooth with no hitches or anything!

You heard it here first

Liverpool: Waiting And Hoping

Luis Suarez, having scored a brilliant goal to secure the 2-0 win over Sunderland on Sunday, is facing the prospect of an injury layoff. The Uruguayan picked up a groin injury late in that win and despite not knowing the full extend of the injury Kenny Dalglish believes that this will rule him out of the international's that are coming up, as he explained to Sky Sports News:

'We'll just have to wait and see.

'He's got a couple of games with Uruguay but they're only friendlies so if he's injured he won't be going.'

The international break may well come at the right time for us for once as the other injured players, like Stevie, Martin Kelly and Fabio Aurelio, have a couple more weeks to work on fitness and if this isn't a serious setback for Luis however it's serious enough to keep him out of Uruguayan matches then it might not be the worst thing to happen.

Hi, I live over here in Ireland and have a friend and work mate who is also a mad liverpool fan! well his auntie has been living in Birmingham last 12 years or so and is dating the head groundsman at villa park and he told her to tell my mate that a deal is done for A. Young and S. Downing for £30-£35 mil to liverpool in the summer! now i know that stuff like this is thrown around the whole time and all but to be fair to him he did also tell him about Bent joining villa a couple weeks before it happened so must somehow have a good source for the info! and i know that you will all prob hit the unbelievable button but i'm not really looking to start a rumour but just passing on what i have heard, i think it would be fantastic if it did happen, i think downing is a great player and both players are fairly pacey so would be great addition to our squad! Has anyone else heard this or anything else similar! Any thoughts on possibility of this happening ed and if so what you would think of it? Thanks ed and great site!

Hi Ed, I've seen Liverpool are reportedly interested in Barcelona's Jeffren. Quite a few sites are reporting this, including Sky Sports News. I think he would be a great acquisiton. But is there deffinate interest? And if we offered enough money, would he come to us? {Ed005's Note - We have had him watched. And I think he could come, partly because he'd get a lot more first-team football than he does at Barcelona. I think he's unfortunate, because he's a good player but he's up against the likes of Pedro, Messi and Villa.}

Now that is good reading and , the team can only improve .

we have had one hell of good run and some good results. Do you guys think we can go unbeaten to the end of the season.

So the weekend was a good result a lot of luck on our side. WBA next and we have to beat them. We really need Kelly back in the team. He gives the team alot of width. So next week we take on Hodgson.

Liverpool never have problems against big ops, but these smaller teams are tricky fixtures.

Evening all,

Can anyone tell me of the status of Suarez groin injury - heard yesterday that this was the reason for him being withdrawn (alongside the mandatory 30 second delay)?

Am I alone in thinking Carra should call this his last full first team season but for fill in roles? Asset or liability ON THE PITCH, NEXT year! !?

Ed whats the likelihood of 2 wingers, a striker, 2 midfielders and a LB coming in? {Ed005's Note - We are looking to get atleast 5 players - with a left-back, wingers, a striker and a midfielder being the main positions we look at.}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Say we get Adam, do you think we will get a DM?

As IMO, we need players in the positions I mentioned. Do you think its likely mate?

Young, Dzsudzsak, Benzema, Adam, M'Vila and Baines seems quite realistic. Again, your thoughts Ed? {Ed005's Note - If we get Adam perhaps we will get a DM, but I am unsure. My fellow ed leaves me to believe that we'll sell Poulsen and look for a replacement. We'll definatly sign a couple of wingers, Young seems most likely in that group. Benzema may be our striker target and the Baines rumours are gathering pace.}

We need 2 really get behind lads 4 rest of season to get 5th would be a great recovery after woys start. Quality buys in summer n we r in a good position 4 next season. Kk steve n sammy av done a brilliant job with the same players, n we av a new star in Suarez.

Juve chasing almost all of his midfielders, take Mascherano in the summer .
ED. can try for Claudio Marchisio

{Editorial Missive: We are done with all of these what makes a red a red, born within the sound of foghorns etc. posts and are not going to post essays from other sites. Some folks are getting PO with the audacity that a true red could never be born outside of spitting distance of Anfield and a number of the posts are becoming offensive. So the easiest solution is to just to end it.}

We need to build a british team and have a few foreign players, i would love for us to sign Charlie Adam, Gary Cahill, Ashley young, Leighton baines (provide crosses to carroll), sanchez/ hazzard(as a big marquee signing)and a young back up striker, someone like Ricky van Wolfwinkel or Gervinho, we also need to get rid of the deadwood players like jovanovic etc to get the wage bill down.
Are starting line up for next season should be:

Reina

Kelly Carragher/ agger Cahill Baines

Sanchez/ hazard Gerrard Adam Young

Suarez Carroll

you also need a strong bench to challenge for the tittle and i see that as our weak point.What do you think Ed ?, (can you put this up as it took a long time please) YNWA {Ed005's Note - We'll not be getting Sanchez or Hazard. And Hazard isn't a winger anyway. We won't get Cahill either which is a good thing as Ayala is a good defender and he'd cost about double what he's worth.}

Same with Skrtel. I think Skrtel can have a great time one week then have a shocker. Personally, I'm more than happy for Ayala to come back rather than spend money on a centre-back.}

{Ed002's Note - I don't know how much of a priority it is seen as. Liverpool have plenty on the books including Ayala and Agger who may form a long-term first choice pairing.}

what about wisdom and wilson?
personally i think ayala should serve as aggers understudy, a defender comfortable bringing the ball out of defence, plus ayala looks to have a lot of organisation skills as well
i wouldn't partner them together though, there is no brick wall like skrtel, vidic, terry, who will do all the dirty work, which is where the other two would come in

I take it you are not old enough to remember Hansen/ Lawrenson & Hughes/ Thomson. Liverpool at their best had 2 ball playing Centre halves.

wen fit agger imo is one of the best central defenders in europe, good in the tackle, quick, great on the ball an has an eye for goal, so another partner for him of the same quality wud only be better

ed what are your veiws ? {Ed005's Note - Carragher is still a good defender as we've seen numerous times this season however the problem I have with him is his inability to pass the ball, and he just hoofs it up the field. Why do people consist of making "Dream Teams" and purchase players to only put them on the bench?. It makes no sense AT ALL. Why would someone move to sit on a bench, really?, they go for first team football.

Ed, I know everyone wants to know who we may or may not buy during the summer, but we have such a great crop of youngsters at the club already, i would rather them be given a chance. So my question is, out of the following list of players, which do you think are near a starting place in the team, which do you think will be moved into the 1st team squad, which ones do you think will go out on loan for some experience, and which ones do you think will not make it as liverpool players;
Shelvey - YES
Spearing - NO
Wilson - YES
Kelly - YES
Pacheco - TIME RUNNING OUT, NO
Robinson - YES
Darby - NO
Eccleston - NO
Ayala - MAYBE
Amoo - NO
Mavinga - NO
Suso - BIG YES
Sterling - BIG YES
Coady - BIG YES
Irwin - NO CHANCE
Flanagan - NEXT ONE IN FIRST TEAM
Mendy - NO
Ince - NO
Wisdom - YES
Bruna - NO CHANCE THO GIFTED
C.Thomas - ON LOAN
Banton - DOUBTFUL
Ngoo - NO
Sama - TOO EARLY
Rafferty - TOO EARLY
Poor - TOO EARLY
Silva - NO
Sorry its such a long list, but with a squad as weak as ours, surely some of these players have a claim for a spot on the bench? thanks ed, keep up the good work {Ed002's Note - Obviously we can't go through these one by one and I am not an expert on many. Certainly Shelvey and Ayala have already shown credibility and certainly a few are likely to leave (e.g. Pacheco). There is a wealth of younger 15/ 16 year old talent that is not yet ready to step up.}. The eds don't have time to answer this - but this is my opinion on who will make it based on seeing everyone. hope it helps! - 9 players through in the next 3 years, futures bright!

"Lassana Diarra would be a terrible buy for Liverpool - he comes with vast amounts of baggage"

Don't let this put you off, one of the philosophies behind Sabermetrics/ Moneyball (the system with which NESV have had so much success with Boston Red Sox) is to target players with somewhat of a shady past and give them the support needed in their public/ private life.

When you consider our first two signings have been Andy Carroll - all sorts of off field incidents & Luis Suarez - 7 game ban for biting an opponent. Diarra is unlikely to be ruled out due to 'excess baggage'

Big C, red 4eva!

{Ed002's Note - Downing seems unlikely, but there have been plenty of rumours about Young. I would have expected Manchester United to have shown an interest as well.}

21 Mar 2011 16:05:44
While we are here talking about future players coming in, what ever happened to buying Arda Turan?

My opinion is that he is a LFC fan and wants to move to anfield, he likes the club, its tradition, and passion the fans have for the club.

Him as a player would fit in perfectly, with his ability to dribble, cross, determination and passion he would fit in with our current crop of players plus he was captin of Galatasary (Spelling) at really early age so his head is screwed on right.

I recall im a few seasons ago running rings around our defenders at anfield. Check the youtube video.

Any thoughts?

Ed, do you or any posters know if the following info appearing on Empire of the Kop is true?
"NESV top brass met with Liverpool City Authority and they have received full backing for a redevelopment of Anfield with a view to re-develop the area surrounding the current stadium in the process. These rumours also say that Lothiar Road will get the axe and Anfield Road will be re-routed. The plan is for an initial extension to push to capacity up to 60,000 with a view to eventually arrive at 70,000! The project would also include about 50 corporate boxes. It has also been muted that plans are in place to add capacity to the Kop by raising its angle rather than pushing it backwards" Ed, true?

Every game Suarez has played in, he's done something eye catching.

Stoke - Scored.

Wigan - Our best player, hit the woodwork.

West Ham - Quiet but what a turn to assist Johnson.

Spam- Need I say anything?!

Sunderland - Cracking goal, our best player again.

Compare this to Fernando Torres' start to his Chelsea career and we're laughing all the way to the bank.

totally agree , well said mate , dunno what your name is but at least you talk sense on here , ive been saying the same thing to everyone , he really is playing unbelivable at the moment and is having an impact on every game we play he really is a big game player and he is worth every penny . also i must say while im talking of our new strikers can everyone lay off carroll hes had a decent start i think he had a good game against braga winning everything in the air so strong , great hold up play and nearly scored a header if it werent for dirk kuyt head being in the way , also yesterday he had a header cleared off the line , hes time is coming and is looking closer to getting a goal than that spaniard is at chelski , how funny is that watching him , can't believe chelsea paid £50m ha

TO ED. . .
why do you say signing 7-9 players is unrealistic
we signed approx these many players in this season only and with the current funds 8 transfers are quite possible

anyways to the rumours
Fabio Aurelio will leave and insua's contract will be extended. also liverpool will make an audacious bid for marko marin and leighton baines. ashley young will come for 11m + eccelston going their way. and also liverpool will try to sign a dm in the form of yann m'vila or lassana diarra

Not something I am in the know about but just read that Harry redknapp is gonna try and tempt kenny with a twelve mill offer for Johnson. Has anyone heard anything that might confirm or squash this rumour?

I think prefer Kelly to Johnson as a right back. And do we need an 18 mill sub right back who isn't even the finished article? I'd bite harry's arm off if he offered us two balloons and a gold fish!

Qualifications: I was born in Lemon Street, off Scotland Road, in 1946. My mother made scouse regularly. a Norwegian meat stew, all my friends were born in the area too, surprisingly. We always listened to the ships. We lived in a hole in the road. I still have a cheeky grin.

Outcome: I left Liverpool in 1980, went to Poly in London, have lived in five countries, and retired to the Red Republic of Tunbridge Wells. I go to see the team play at least twice a season, subscribe to the TV channel, have a fancard and use the credit card, I think I'm a Liverpool supporter. Maybe that's why I live in this home the kids put me in where everyone thinks they're Tarzan.

Just wondering your thoughts on carrol, i know we payed 35 mil for the lad but do u think hes all that great, having another played like crouch (but much better) will have its ups, like he won every ball in the air, but his ball control was well poor yesterday and passing wasnt great, just wondering on whether u think he will be top striker or whether we need someone like benzema with more skill with carrol coming off the bench as an impact player? cheers

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
It could be fair to say A.C is not yet fully match fit he has not had a run of competitive games for sometime.His touch and ball control will improve with each game. As far as £35 m price tag? that will always be an issue but we got £50m for a player who was lacking effort and had no desire to play for us, and I am sure like most of us that the efforts shown from our purchased player, are better than the one we sold.

There is not a great deal down there for the kids nowadays a bit of a park and the bowly. The blackie still tries hard though for what community is left around the area.

I think everyone is pretty much in agreement that 35 million was overpriced, but it was late in the day and we needed another striker. The problem is that January is a bad time to buy, had the deal gone through in the summer we could of negotiated a bit and maybe got him cheaper (maybe not). In terms of his controll, he just needs match fitness which will come with more games. I do agree though mate that we need another striker along with a couple of wide players. That way there will be more competition for places in the squad and we will have options when it comes to naming a team. Its been to long now since we have had quality and depth in the squad which I beleive is something that is needed if you want to challange on all fronts.

"{Ed002's Note - I will try and explain what I know to be correct and what is "rumoured" about Alexis Sanchez. We know that Chelsea and Inter Milan have made unsuccessful bids, and we know that Manchester United and Barcelona have a declared interest. Juventus had previously been interested but were hoping that (a) Sanchez stayed under the radar until a deal could be struck, and (b) Udinese would look kindly on an arrangement that included some cash and several players either in exchange, on loan or in part-ownership as part of the deal. As an aside Juventus have proposed a similar deal for Javier Pastore. Anyway, there was a January meeting with Chelsea in Monaco and broad agreement was reached over the transfer before Giampaolo Pozzo said that the deal must include a loan of the player back to Udinese. Whilst Barcelona were apparently willing to agree to this until the end of the season, Pozzo proposed that whoever Sanchez moved to should allow him to be loaned back for 18 months - hence the end of any discussions. I expect that Juventus will not come back in to the picture. Although Sanchez has been watched by numerous teams, there is nothing new other than a "rumour" that Manchester City may be preparing a bid as well. They have, like Juventus, recently been knocked back in a bid for Pastore and are likely to aim their cheque book in another direction - this may well be Sanchez. I suspect that we will see a saga drag out through the summer transfer window as Pozzo puts the player on the market, takes him off the market, values him at 100M and so on. Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona and Inter will all likely remain interested but could well tire of the expected drawn-out negotiations. Manchester United and Chelsea were both originally wary of the player being not quite as robust as needs be for the EPL. Perhaps Inter will get their man.}"

Excellent reply - I hope you've copied that into Word so you can paste it quickly the next time the question is asked (shouldn't be long now).

{Ed002's Note - Exactly - I have some responses to standard questions - Sanchez; why can't suarez play for us in Europe; how do I watch Liverpool in Google chrome etc..}

{Ed005's Note - Differend ed mate. I personally don't see a natural or obvious partnership for the two but I seen glimpses today which are swaying me. I do however think that someone like Fernando Torres for example, would be the perfect partner for Suarez.}

Torres is that the fella who used to be a striker?? Anyway my point is I think the perfect partner is the fella we being linked with in benzema, a carol with become a different option, AND super sub. I believe the stcking point with benzema, is his agent want his starting game in contract, and kk not willing to agree d comoli is wanting what ever it takes as long as he signs. I've no doubts what so ever kk will bring the title back to merseyside, I just hope the owners are seeing this and give kk 5 yr deal, kk knows the type of players he needs for each position, even if we were to lose every game from now till end of the season I'd still expect owners and fans to back him to the hilt. Once kk starts to bring his own players in, hopefully owners going to give him the backing of upto 5 players, we will see a title challaging team next season onwards, just make the job easier for a new team/ squad I'd lose out on euro league, although there is little side of me thinking CL still possibility, I can see spurs dropping points and city, {Ed002's Note - If Liverpool lose every game between now and the end of the season I don't think you will see him as manager in the long-term.}

Hi editors,
It seems to me that we need another player similar to Suarez, so to say to have 2 suaresez playing on either side of Caroll. Then we don't need wingers provided we play 4-3-3 with another attacking full back joining to play on the left. Well, I wouldn't mind another creative central midfielder in the mould of Fabregas. 3 singnings in total to get to the next level. . Do you think there's a chance Kenny is thinking along these lines?

I think realistic targets for liverpool in the upcoming summer transfer window are:
alexis sanchez - udinese - 22- winger - 35 mil
sylvain marvaux - rennes - 24 - winger - free
charlie adam - blackpool - 24 - midfielder - 10mil
mateo musacchio - villarreal - 20- defender - 10 mil
marcus pedersen - vitesse - 20 - striker - 5-10 mil
wilfried zaha - crystal palace - 18 - striker - 5mil

now i think all liverpool fans concede we need a left back now a few names have benn circuling through the media the likes of
jose enrique
leigton baines
emilio izaguirre
fabio coentrao
michal kadlec
now i personally would like coentrao youngest and in mu opinion best overall but unfortunatley this will not materlize ED do you agree with the targets and which left back do you
a) prefer
b)think is a genuine possibility
thank you very much and love this site
Boris

{Ed002's Note - I don't agree that players such as Sanchez are realistic. As for a left back, Baines may be an option.}

Hi ed, if we finish 5th, could we pass on the europa league? I know it would never happen, but would they permit it? Just asking for the sake of knowing. Thanks ed great job!

{Ed002's Note - It is up to the FA how places are allocated. If Liverpool were to say that they did not wish to enter I suspect the FA would reluctantly agree - but probably exclude the club from all other European competion for a while.}

Hi Eds, I been looking into who would be the right transfers for liverpool. Based on what John W.Henry said he will be looking to recruit "young brittish/ european talent" where do you think our transfer money should go, give the young talent a chance or go in for more proven players

Young Potential signings:
Connor Wickham 17 years old Ipswich. Young powerful 6ft 3inc forward who has attracted interest from Arsenal, Man Unite, Newcastle and Liverpool. £10m was the figure last mentioned

Oxlade-Chamberlain 17 year old plays for Southampton. Classy little winger with all the potential in the world. Has crafty feet, bag of pace and was last mooted to a switch to Arsenal. £10m again the figure last quoted.

Wilfred Zaha- Orginally ivorian striker now plays for England U19s, not reknown for goal scoring abilities but more assisting the striker. Only 18 he has been linked with ourselves and Fulham not sure how much he would be priced at

Phil Jones Blackburn centre half is only 19 but has already been linked with a £10m switch to Chelsea, real potential, could be seen as a future replacement to Carragher.

Or would you rather see the likes of Ashley Young, Marveaux, Zhirkov and any proven player we are chasing.

Cheers

Adzii {Ed002's Note - I expect that Marveaux will join up and Phil Jones is an interesting call for defence if Blackburn are relegated. I think Spurs remain favourites for Wickham and I know nothing of Zaha at all.}

21 Mar 2011 13:30:20
Ed any intrest in fernando gago, what do you think of him {Ed002's Note - There has been interest reported but I don't know how serious it is. Whilst being a very good player, I have a feeling that he would find it very difficult to fit in at Liverpool. I don't see a move happening.}

21 Mar 2011 13:23:17
Why do we need Charlie Adam as a holding mid player? Gerrard is 30+, and for me wud be ideal in this role. Can pass, tackle, react under pressure and support the attack without question. He could play this role for the next 6-7 years, similar to Lothar Matthaus for Germany. We have issues in other positions first {Ed003's Note -Charlie Adam is not a holding midfield player although if asked to play this role I'm sure he could}

It's Monday afternoon, and having been to the game yesterday and thinking about it today, I have to say that we were lucky this time. I know that up until the time we got the fortunate penalty, we were always second best in the game - no denying that at all. This is the worry for me. We started well and Kuyt could have scored on 2 occasions within the first 5 minutes. You would think this would spur us on, but it didn't. In fact Sunderland put us under a lot of pressure without creating anything - our defence and in particular Agger had a good afternoon. To put it in perspective, we were terrible in both games againt Braga, carp against West Ham, and not confident against Sunderland, until the good luck decision.

Still far, far to go.

In all honesty I reckon the names coming to Liverpool in summer are
Young- winger/ midfield
Marveaux - winger/ midfield
Baines - left wing back
Gervinho- striker/ winger
M. Pederson -striker/ winger
Adam - holding/ centre midfield

Ed think these are likely?
Ant {Ed001's Note - which Pederson are you referring to? Gamst? If so I don't think he is likely at all but the rest are very plausible, at this moment in time anyway, there is still a long way to go before the window opens though.}

Forget Benzema, forget Gorvino, forget, Horoa. We man is Super Mario, Balotelli.
Yeah, he's a bit of a hothead, but that could be fixed with a manager like Kenny.

He's got the talent and age and that devilish, raging attitude that you sometimes need to compete (if of course properly channelled). I firmly believe with good guidance, love and an environment like ours, the kid could be a true great.

So, ed, any chance of a bid for Super Mario summer or the following winter?

Lastly, the ff need be shipped out summer:
Jones>£2m
Kygriakos>£2m
Skrtel>£8m
Aurelia>£3m
Konchesky>£2m
Maxi>£5m
Poulson>£3.5m

Darby>£1m
Aquilani>£14m

Jovanovic>£6m

M'Villa>£12m
Sissoko>£13m
Marveax>£0m
Payet>£12m
Sanchez>£35m
Balotelli/ Hulk>£18m

I know people are gonna go about how Sanchez will have "better options". Well, not that any of those people have any access to to Sanchez's head and know his intentions, the fact is that should Liverpool put in an acceptable bid to the Udinse, Monsier DC will have an opportunity to speak to the player.

We'll sit down with the player and make our case. Players rarely just knock back advances without having sat down and listened to the buyer's offer. This Ed002 that constantly seeks to dismiss a move to Liverpool, stating that "it will never happen", "Sanchez won't be moving to Liverpool" . . as though it were a fact.

Sir, it's your opinion that Chelsea, Inter will be better options for the player. He might not make his choice based on your logic. Each player is his own man. Just because player A based his decision on CL footy doesn't mean B will do the same.
What matters is where the team is going, not where it is. LFC is a club on the up.
We have the name, the fans and dough. If we go bid for, say Pastore, Mata, Aguero, players will see that indeed, the ambition is there.
As ed001 has in the past said, there's no reason why top players shouldn't join Liverpool.

So fellas, regardless of: not being in the CL, Ed002's note- Sanchez will not be moving to Liverpool even if they're interested as he has options and all those other claims about LFC not being "that attractive an option", have all the faith in the world that should we move for the Pastores, the Sanchezs, we'll have every chance of getting them, as any other team.
We have the owners, manager, supporters and the money, so why the hell not?
Champions League?
Well, if Chelsea or Arsenal drop out of the CL, would they suddenly be unattractive options? Would the Agueros, Llorentes start trickling in at WHL cause the Cockney Comedian's Cretins Spurs are in the CL. f*** NO! I'd think.

Too much unjustified importance has been attached to the Champions League it's so galling.

"Sanchez won't be joining Liverpool." My foot!

{Ed002's Note - Thanks for understanding. I am not suggesting everything is rosey in the Brazilian garden and I have very good friends who make their home the much of the time, but unless we have a "mature adults off topic" forum page added, the discussion needs to sit in the wings.}

ED: rather disappointed that you chose to cut my MOKR posting this morning by removing the reference to the 'real' Brazil.
Perhaps you could explain why this was deemed necessary?
My point is that we are fed the idea of Brazil as magical with Samba music, glorious beaches and bronzed bodies, when the reality is far, far removed from that.
Whilst I can understand the sensitivity about foul and abusive language, this one passes me by.
My reference as to what the real Brazil is seems to be a senitive point with one editor.
Perhaps you could tell me why?

{Ed002's Note - I felt in inappropriate for a football banter site. The eco-political situations that led to, and stills sustains, that level of poverty and that environment is really not for discussion here. As for the second point (the 12 yo) - again far from being the right forum to raise such issues. You could keep trying to post it, as I am sure there are other Eds who would let it through.}

I can confirm that K. Dalglish will try to add Aiden Mcgeady to the Liverpool squad during the summer if he agrees to stay on as manager. Cost will be 12-15m approx. Negotiations are ongoing with the owners but an incentive driven contract is being floated to Kenny's advisors. Also being targeted are Benzema 25m and L. Diarra 15m if Mourinho leaves the bernabeu, Marveaux already done, and Shawcross 15m. Total cost could hit 70m but will use 45m from Torres money (Carroll and Suarez were bought by owners money)plus investment of 25m from owners as a signal to all of the clubs intent to challenge at the top again for the world's best talent.

{Ed002's Note - So you think that the money provided for Torres is stuffed under a matress somewhere? They would also be pretty dumb owners if they are going to spend £25M just to signal their intent to other clubs. I can also tell you that the Marveaux deal is not "done", but is very likely to happen. Lassana Diarra would be a terrible buy for Liverpool - he comes with vast amounts of baggage.}

Yesterday, we seen many Headers won by Andy Caroll. He won more headers when Compared to the Headers won by Any players in whole of this Season. He is greatest ariel Threat in Premiership. He won almost all the Headers and Remains a constant threat in the Match.
In recent past, we have been using Corners as a formality and i don't remember any Goals (EXCEPT a few from Greek) scored by Headers. With Ac in our line-up each and every Corners was a goal scoring opportunity and we utilizing the Corners with a Purpose.

"The Madness of King Roy XXXXII"

If you're a realist you will fall out of love with the game for a short while. In my view it will happen to most people once or twice every few years; there will be something that sparks it or maybe you just see or play too much football. I've seen it with kids of 19 who have played 12 years non-stop and then just give it up. I've seen it with managers - even Shanks 'walked away' and never outwardly seemed to regret it, although inwardly it was not calm waters. I wonder if I am going through this period now after watching "Match of the Day 2" last night. It usually last a week or two.

I rather like Colin Murray, but the problem with MOTD2 is that it tends to fly through the games. Our excerpt was less than 10 minutes (less than the Chelsea clips) and then we spend so much time with . . pundits! I am now completely fed up with the idea that we want to hear what pundits have to say. None of them (save for a couple) across the media say anything I have not heard before, my mates in the wine bar don't say, or my 82 year old mother would recognise as new!

Hansen has folded into himself over the past few years and his "sensational and utterly brilliant" critique of the games is now becoming repetitive and banal. Even Lee Dixon used the word 'sensational' last night. Alan Hansen is past his sell-by date and needs to move on. They did have a man who has won more than Hansen, plays at an advanced age and has been present in more European football scuffles than AH ever has. Clarence Seedorf was reduced to a bit-part player last night and you wonder why bother having him on the programme? I no longer listen to the pre-match build up or the final words. I know what I have seen. I know what I think is wrong with the way they played. I don't need a man whose vocabulary is littered with hyperbole to tell me the 'bleeding obvious!' If you do, then enjoy it, but ask yourself if you're a hostage to the media hype that suggests that you can only make succinct judgements if you've played the game at a high level?

On the subject of moaning - and I have been doing a lot of that on here recently and make NO apologies for it. I refuse to accept the dross that stains that game. Back to the moaning . . from what I see and hear on the TV and radio, this has to be the worst season ever for managers moaning. Obscene Whinger and Ferguson have made it into an 'art form' and even if they are not involved, they seem to have a knack of bitching about something. The Fergie Student, Stodge Bruce, did it yesterday about the first penalty. Get over it! It won't change until technology is used and although I say complain until things change, this is an area I don't think the crooks at FIFA will be listening out for.

Andy Carroll garnered some stick on these pages after Thursday's game. I was not happy to read that; considering he is not yet match fit, he seemed to do a fair job as a target man. The true worth of his presence will not be felt until we get better service to him next season. What I did like yesterday was the way he dropped deep to serve Suarez and help out Meireles and Lucas. Stick with him, the boy has real flair that is more than Crouch and Zigic can offer.

The old chestnut of nicknames . . . the shouty one (Jonathan Pearce) on BBC's MOTD2 referred to Javier Hernandez as Chicarito Hernandez. Wrong JP! Calling him Little Pea Hernandez is childish and also incorrect. This fascination with his nickname is as boring as my writing about it! I've said before, that Carra would not be allowed on a shirt worn by JC and a score of other similar nicknames. So why is Hernandez known as someone else? Before you respond with 'that's his nickhame', well that is an unofficial title and why not have Hernandez on the shirt? On this issue: JP also mentioned some 'Samba magic' when referring to Ramires goal at Chelsea. I nearly vomited at this cliche!

Finally, our old friend Houllier. Sadly that game is up for this admirable Frenchman with Saturday's result against Wolves. Despite the boring monotone speaking 'Big Mick' McCarthy (nickname!) winning against their Midlands rivals, there is also the question of losing the dressing room and the fans. Remember where you heard it first (Christ! I sound like one of the posters on here . . ) as Steve McClaren slides effortlessly into that job.

Just going to make a few points about the game yesterday.
Spearing- Everyone, including me, has slated him recently, and im not saying hes a better player all of a sudden, but showed yesterday that he can be a decent back up.
Carroll- Looking like a decent attacking outlet. Iv heard many people say hes an expensive Peter Crouch but look at this lad, Peter Crouch would get out muscled by Arsene Wenger, Carrol looks like hed last 12 rounds with the Hayemaker! Set up a few attcks and unlucky not to score yesterday.
Lucas- Has about the same work rate as Kuyt, and time and time again people slate him, but he does a decent job, stops their attacks and set ups ours, i really feel that due to his better discipline he is the better half of the Mascherano/ Lucas partnership.
Agger- Defense looks so much stronger with him there, cannot believe some people were shouting for his departure, calm and collected, can carry the ball forward and shows passion for the game. Skrtel looks stronger next to Agger, they have a decent understanding.
Meireles- Looks like hes being pushed a little too much, I don't remember him having a game off at all under KK, perhaps a start on the bench in the next game will help him, looks like hes struggling to find the form he showed at first, due to playing a hell of a lot.
Suarez- Looking better than Torres every single game, he brings life to the game, takes people on, scores, sets up those around him, and pulled Rafaels hair last weekend, hes fantastic!

All in all a decent game yesterday, penalty was a bad decision, but we fully deserved the win, Reina could have brought a deck lounger and a good book! The return of Gerrard, with a few games left will be a bonus, ease him back into the team without the pressure of having to win the europa now, just to consolidate what we have in the league.
We needa creative CM, rumours of Alonso on loan would be good, or Aquilani if KK can work a miracle, I truly believe that Suso could do the job, if he was eased in, but perhaps easier to bring in a player, probably Charlie Adam.
Wingers, I have always thought that Aiden McGeady would be a cheap but fruitful acquisition, a proper wide player, and if what Macca says is true, Ashley Young, expensive considering he can't cross but still a good home grown player.
Finally a striker/ forward, Horaru, Gervinho, Benzema and others are in the frame, my pick would be Benzema, hes a good finisher but still a big lad, can do a lot with him. Would prefer Lorente, but would have to pay well over the odds in a bidding war with atleast one other prem club, and many overseas.
We are not far off, 4 signings in the summer and shift some sh*t and we back in the chase for chamops and titles.

What did/ do you make of the game/ future eds?

Anfield Andy

{Ed002's Note - All in all a good performance and an excellent goal from Suarez. I think a push for 5th is now on - although a lot of the fans don't seem keen on European football for next season.}

Anyone read the Sunday World yesterday? So stupid they are, they were linking Reina with a move to Arsenal in the headline, then you go to read the write up and then the opening line, the Kop goalkeeper could make a move to Highbury in the summer, very funny! Who are these people?

{Ed005's Note - Differend ed mate. I personally don't see a natural or obvious partnership for the two but I seen glimpses today which are swaying me. I do however think that someone like Fernando Torres for example, would be the perfect partner for Suarez.}

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I think I have to disagree with this. Carroll is great at drawing defenders and knocking balls down into open spaces. Suarez is great at pouncing on those loose balls and finishing at a high rate. I think that given time, and after adding in a player or two who can cross, Carroll and Suarez will form a great partnership.

This site is an addiction, first thing i check in the mornin, last thing i check at nite. the guy who thought of it should by himself a pint on me :) great idea, which ed created the origional site?(football rumours) anyways i want adam banega sanchez contreou(spelling) hazard benzema. no need for a cb as i think the young quality we have (ayala wilson wisdom coady an possibly mavinga) along with the regulars (carra agger, skrtel soto not up to it) will serve us well for at least kk's tenure( 3 - 5 years imo) an maybe beyond. i think this summer jwh will shock the football world massively with big bids for BIG players on BIG contracts. he has done this b4 with the red sox an his comments regarding stadium development are similar to what happened at fenway park. £25-£50 mil bids will be made for the top players with massive wages goin to them. how successful these bids will be remains to be seen but as a lifelong lfc 'student', my glass is half full :)

"To the tickaloon who thinks you have to be nearly born at the ground to be a liverpool fan, i know, lets have a bell like at london and if you can't hear the bells at Bow when you are born you are not cockney, we could have our own bell, so if you don't hear it when you are born you have to support everton, my son in law went on thursday for europe game.hes from south africa, i had to tell him before hes not allowed to be a liverpool fan cos you wasnt born outside the ground, load of bolox, "
Agree with the sentiments of this but we do not need a bell. If you were born and grew up within the sound of the ships on the river then you are a "true" scouser. Does anyone remember the ships sounding their horns at midnight on New Years Eve? I do. Don't live in Liverpool anymore but still scouse at heart. Been around the world like many scousers. Wherever I have been, I have met fellow scousers - red and blue. It does not matter were you are from as long as you support the team!

I've been asking myself since last summer; Is Suarez better than Torres. I finally decided today that Suarez is better through the process of elimination. Ijust asked my self if I had Messi, Torres & Suarez in my squad and I was only playing two at a time, who would start & who would be on the bench. It was so easy to choose when I looked at it like this. Could you imagine Messi and Suarez as a strike parnership. WOW! If Torres was on form I'd bring him on after 65-70 mins.
. .
. .
have to disagree mate, fernando torres at his best is the best striker in the world. no matter who he plays for.

LFC-IRE

imo Messi is the best striker/ winger in the world. Hands down, no doubt! As for Torres(in form) vs Suarez. I give it to Suarez because he's more creative & can therefore sink stubborn teams like Sunderland & Stoke single handedly. Do you remember the 08/ 09 season when we came 2nd. Teams like Stoke & Sunderland would park the bus in front of the goal & be happy with a point. Suarez's 2 premiere leaugue goals were against Stoke & Sunderland. He was extremely unlucky against West Ham after hitting the woodwork twice. The goal he set up for Dirk Kuyt against Manu & the goal today will probably be voted as two as the best goals of the year.

21 Mar 2011 01:52:34
If we could somehow put a team like this together we could give the title a good shot next year:

- - - - - - - - - Reina - - - - - - - - -
Johnson - Carragher - Agger - Baines
- - - - - - Gerrard - Alonso - - - - - -
- - - - - - - - Meireles - - - - - - - -
- - - Aguero - Carroll - Suarez - - - -

Backed up by:

- - - - - - - David James - - - - - - -
Kelly - Ayala - Wilson/ Skrtel - Warnock
- - - - Lucas - Aquilani/ Spearing - - - -
- - - - - - - - - Shelvey - - - - - - - - -
- - - - - Pacheco - Kuyt - Suso - - - - -

Baines, Alonso, Aguero, James & Warnock could all come in for around £70million and about £20million could be redeemed by the sales of Konchesky, Aur lio, Kyrgiakos, Jovanović, Poulsen, Cole, N'Gog, El Zhar, Ins a, Darby & Degen.

£50million would be a reasonable investment by NESV considering we broke even in the January window.

All this hype about not being a 'true' liverpool fan if your not from the city is total rubbish. i've supported the reds since i was 5 years old, that's 30 years. and my first ever time going to a match was when i was 21. but i can assure you that for the 16 years of which i never went to a match, i still loved the club every bit as much as i do now. so come off it lads. my mate is the biggest man united fan iv ever met and hes from dublin. its not where your from that determines if your a true supporter, its how loyal you are, and when you stick with the club no matter what.

what about wisdom and wilson?
personally i think ayala should serve as aggers understudy, a defender comfortable bringing the ball out of defence, plus ayala looks to have a lot of organisation skills as well
i wouldn't partner them together though, there is no brick wall like skrtel, vidic, terry, who will do all the dirty work, which is where the other two would come in

The chap does not play for Liverpool football club anymore. Simple as that. It's a killer that he left, the lad was f*&cking brilliant most times for us and to be honest, I'd love to see him with Suarez now and even Carroll but that's the way it goes. We need to get over it. We bought a world class striker and he is gone now. I love the club more than any player. They come and go. And living in Dublin makes it very f&*cking expensive every year going to the club we love. mr torres has left the building. . . . . . .

I know mate but I don't understand why fans are saying things like 'wish him the best' and hope he does well, for him to do well would be to our detriment, does anyone want to see him banging them in and chelsea climbing the table? Does anyone wanna see Reina saving pens for United? If he'd of gone back to spain like Alonso it'd be a different story, to leave in January to one of your biggest rivals sticks in many peoples craw, anyway enough said on the matter now

your right in a way. it's mad. i remember deadline day on s**tesports news. bad stuff. . but we cannot have this guy's whiff hanging around the club anymore. things will change. im really 100% sure of it. its full of mancs over here in dublin and some are my mates, but they are in awe of us. can't explain it but they are. i don't believe nesv have bought the club thinking they could get away with not investing in the squad. especially after the 2 muppets who made us a joke. things will change. Mr torres will be a memory. good times. PS BUDDY. WE COULD DO WITH A CUP BECAUSE THIS PLACE IS STARTING TO BE OVER RUN WITH THE MANC VERMON :)
