Well the 2nd 45 lived right up to the standard of the 1st half. A super display by the young reds. Several missed chances culminating in an effort by Brannigan that flew off the crossbar. Bijev came on with 72mins gone to replace Ryan Kent who had a fantastic debut. Mom in my opinion was Brad Smith. He was fantastic racing down the left all night. On 85mins he burst into the box after a fantastic run and cut the ball back with precision for Petersen to score his 2nd of the match for 4-2. Again into stoppage time he bursts into the box and pulls back a perfect pass to pick out Jack Dunn to make it 5-2 on 93mins. Nearly a carbon copy of the fourth. This win moves the young reds top of the table on goal difference ahead of Fulham with a game in hand too. They are now top scorers with 48 goals from 17 games. A great night from the lads who thoroughly enjoyed themselves on the hallowed Anfield turf.

Don't take the p**s but why don't the u21s have there names on there shirts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Because it's the u21's

Agree0 Disagree0

Just from a logical point of view I imagine it's because the team may change around frequently, usurping the need for squad numbers etc. As first team players oft appear to regain fitness. Just a theory.

Well what a cracking 1st half from Anfield. Open entertaining football from both sides. Newcastle took the lead early with their 1st attack from a slip in midfield, Brannigan conceded possession and was duly punished by Roberts. A reversal saw Dunn rob possession high up the field and smashed a left foot rocket into the net for 1-1 on 9mins. A brilliant run by debutant Ryan Kent crossed low across the 6 yard box for a Petersen finish to put the reds ahead on 13 mins, 2-1. Five mins later it's all level again from Aarons with great control and finish inside the box.2-2. A topsy turvy match sees Liverpool again take the lead. A corner floated in by Brannigan is met by the big centre back Paez who loops a towering header into the Newcastle net.3-2 it finished at the break. More of the same in the 2nd half please lol.

Was talking about it at work and got me thinking, only young so can't go as far back as most but here it is:
If you could have any one player from the past put into our squad at their prime who would it be?
I'm between either:
Xabi Alonso - love our current players, but Alonso was one of my all time favourites! World class and could defend control possession and start a counter perfectly, just imagine him Stevie and hendo/coutinho supporting our front 3!
Sami Hyypia - was thinking Torres but don't think he was flexible enough to suit our 3 forwards (and goals hasn't been a problem) and Hyypia would strengthen our back four immensely esp from set pieces!

Who would you go for?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I know we are blessed with an awesome strikeforce at the moment, but would love Fowler in his prime.
Was my favourite player for a long time.
Lets split it into areas of the pitch, as it might help with selections:

Striker - Fowler
Midfielder - Barnes
Defender - Marcus Babel

Agree0 Disagree0

John Barnes without a doubt. As you point out, a commanding centre half is probably what we need, but JB was such a joy to watch and would suit our current system perfectly!

Agree0 Disagree0

Souness. Sprayed the ball round like Xabi but hard as nails. Disaster as a manager though and not forgiven for interview with that newspaper.

Agree0 Disagree0

We need a left sided player, so without a doubt John Barnes

Agree0 Disagree0

Alan Hanson.
The way he organised the defence was commanding, and he could also play the ball out from the back very well. Brendan would of loved him in his team.
Also agree with Digger good shout!

Get a result today lads I'm starting to dream!

Liverpool U21s take on Newcastle United at Anfield live on LFC TV and LFCTV GO from 6.30pm.
Kick-off is at 7pm and Alex Inglethorpe's charges will be hoping to get back to winning ways after the 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers last time around.
Liverpool U21's are currently lying in 2nd place 3pts behind Fulham with 2 games in hand. Fulham play away to Man City tomorrow afternoon at 3 o clock.
I will post the team as soon as I have it.

Hi All- was wondering cd someone enlighten me to the permutations of the next few fixtures-If we win all our matches will be champions or do City have too many games, or what's the story? Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Mar 2014 20:36:28
It's not a question of permutations. Look at the table. 3 points for a win. I'm sure you can figure this out.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mathematically no. But if we win all our remaining fixtures we will win the league without a doubt mate.
City will drop points as will everyone

Agree0 Disagree0

I think if I'm
Correct but could be wrong so don't hold me to it. If Chelsea lose to arsenal tomorrow and city lose to united this week that puts the league in our hands. all we have to do then is win our remaining matches and it's ours.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we win all of our remaining games and Chelsea and City win all of their remaining games (except losing to us of course) then we will finish 2nd 1 point behind City and 2 points ahead of Chelsea. Arsenal could win all of their remaining games (including against Chelsea) but unless they post huge scores, we will still finish above them due to our superior goal difference.

To be sure of winning the league (which of course I am not thinking about, and am only focussing on Cardiff!) we would need another team to take points off City. That's why I'm actually disappointed by RVP's injury as it pretty much kills any chance United have of nicking a draw in the derby, IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Mar 2014 15:22:33
Who's better Suarez or Aguero?

Aguero has not scored as many goals, he is injured again, looks like he can't deal with the physical aspect
of the PL. Suarez is never injured. Of course City must be interested in Suarez. Would anyone take a swap plus money Suarez for Aguero?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Aguero is the better st for me but luis is by far the better player he can do it all he can play wide and he defends aguero does pick up lots of injuries over his pace aswell

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Mar 2014 16:24:34
As for a Central and Important Striker, We have Sturridge who would match any top striker in the world, Aguero wouldn't add anything new nor amount of goals what Sturridge offers,
Suarez is a differenet breed alltogether.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aguero wouldn't add anything new? Lol

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Aguero won't be moving to Liverpool.}

Is this question serious? Suarez is the best striker on the planet

Agree0 Disagree0

Not even Ken Aguero and his lucky pants.

Agree0 Disagree0

But guys wait until Suarez again upsets the apple cart. I know that I've been a little quiet on your site in recent weeks, and fair - play you've proved yourselves since the Derby massacre at Anfield.
But Suarez is a time bomb waiting to implode. If he's not going to call Rogers a liar again (as he did last summer) after the fiasco regarding the interpretation of his contract - in which he was proved to be correct! I simply wonder how how he can eclipse his already illustrious reputation (for yourselves and Ajax) by making a name for himself once again and in so doing dragging your name into the mire.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Mar 2014 20:42:20
Davey,

Your use of the term time bomb is redundant. Please refer to your choice of wording (implode) as any bomb that implodes is required to have all detonators go off simultaneously by design.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice to see you again daveyboy, life's to short if y'cant have the craic!

Sadly, and this may be the alkyfrol talking, you may be onto something. Genius he may be but loose cannon he Defo is.

Up to Brendans management skills and thankfully he's done the job so far. futures not happened and the past can't be changed, so the moments all we have, and right now he's banging them in mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Davey, I swear on Bobby Martinez eyesight, king Luis will be a good lad and bring the title back home, were doing it for Merseyside Davey so you can bask in reflective glory when the redmen win the league!

YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE DAVEY, YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

I simply wonder how how he can eclipse his already illustrious reputation.

Well for one he could help us win the league :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Bluenose, simple quick question requiring a one word answer, would you like him at Goodison?
Answer Yes = case closed
Answer No = liar

We was only having a bit of hypothetical banter Ed2, just to kill the time until Saturday kickoff. Opinion seems to be Aguero isn't good enough for Liverpool anyway.

The real AG
I know Ed02 has said that we won't go for moreno but since ed 001 said that he wouldlike us to sign moreno maybe there is some chance we might go for him
As for Kampl well he is certainly one for the future and having watched him Ihe is better than most young players of his position in the Pl

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Which is why Real Madrid want him.}

Kampl or Moreno ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Moreno.}

21 Mar 2014 15:47:53
Reet2107Liverpool, one request, let's try and keep the discussion to the original post. I am not sure if the Ed's prefer a new thread being opened when your original post is only a couple of threads below.

I know Ed001 has said he would like us to sign Alberto Moreno, and I am sure LFC would like a player like Moreno, but I can't see us beating Real Madrid, Chelsea or whoever else is trying to buy him, to buy him. Therefor, he is NOT a realistic signing.

Kampl is 24 this year and not one for the future. He is a versatile player having played Right midfield, central Midfield, Attacking Midfield, Left Midfield for Salzburg and has done well. But IMO, there are better players out there we can go for. Firmino would be my choice as I mentioned below.

I have no idea whether Real Madrid have an interest in Kampl (I am not sure if Ed02's reference is aimed at Moreno or Kampl).

"Better than most young players of his position" is subjective ofcourse. Also, I don't know if you are comparing him to EPL based players or not.

In the PL, there are many who are better than him IMO. Oscar, Nasri, Silva, Coutinho, Ozil, Cazorla, the OX, Eriksen, Barkley, Mata, Kagawa, Januzaj, Lallana, Gaston Ramirez just in the top half.

I know I have exclusively mentioned attacking midfielders, I have done so because I believe we are primarily looking for an attacking midfielder. You didn't mention who you were comparing him to, but Kampl is a similar type of player to the above mentioned ones.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It was aimed at Moreno.}

Kevin Kampl this season.

Austrian Bundesliga - 25 games played, 9 goals, 17 assists.

Europa League - 11 games played, 3 goals, 6 assists.

Fair enough, the Austrian Bundesliga isn't the most difficult league in the world, but he has shown he is ready for the step up to a bigger club/league.

His Europa League record has been very good this season, and gives us an idea of how well he plays against bigger teams.

For me he is better than our Philippe with his passing ability and eye for goal. He would be a perfect fit operating behind Suarez and Studge, and as AG pointed out he can also play right mid, left mid, and central mid.

For around £8-10m he would be a great buy.

Agree0 Disagree0

First of all I apologize for posting above as my original.thread was just below xxxit was a mistqke
Ae for Kampl I am not saying he is better thwj the players you mentioned bit his cost will be kuch less and and he will provide effective cover for the AM role in oir team remember suso can also play ij a traditional CM role

21 Mar 2014 11:42:24
Obviously this is just for fun but with Rogers "linked" with barca let's say he went what Liverpool or swansea players would he bring with him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11-12 players i'd imagine.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am not sure Barca would be happy with BR bringing "his" players from LFC or Swansea. I can see him going for Henderson.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hendo was a key player in the midfield diamond agaisnt manU. He was the key link between midfield and attack along with Stirling. Anyway I think right now we'd beat Barca, we're fast on the break and would leave Puyol for dead at the back. Barca still play 2010 style football, its outdated.

Who does everyone think we should sign for the three position mentioned on this site in the summer
My choices would be shaqiri, Moreno., Kampl
would also like ed 001 opinion
P.S please don't give unrealistic choices such as costa, Isco, Shaw

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Mar 2014 12:37:22
Moreno is UNREALISTIC, as Ed02 has pointed out on many occasions.

Kampl, we could find a half decent player better than Kampl in the PL for a decent fee.

Shaqiri will a very good signing if we can get him.

My choices would be: Caner Erkin, Konoplyanka and Roberto Firmino.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Mar 2014 12:28:07
I think it depends 100% on who leaves.

I'd like Caner Erkin, Pedro Rodriguez and Suso (recall).

I don't see the need to spend big on a midfielder now. We need a new left back and a forward to replace Moses and actually compete with Sterling.

Konoplyanka appears to be a mercenary after any big move, Moreno will probably go to Real Madrid and Kampl (although a great shout) is not needed in my opinion. It'd certainly be "goodbye Suso". I would mainly like a keeper to fight Mingolet for a starting role to be honest. Shaquiri again is a good shout and I'd love him. I just rate Pedro slightly higher. We should have signed Friedel when he left Blackburn. That is what we need. A Friedel/Schwarzer/Lindegaard. Someone who is a capable duputy and won't cry about sitting on the bench.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ricardo Rodriguez - Wolfsburg
Kevin Kampl - Red Bull Salzburg
Yehven Konoplyanka - Dnipro

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

East Midlands Scouser, I don't think you can just say Konoplyanka is a mercenary. It is LFC who have dropped their interest in Konoplyanka, not the other way around. Also, apparently he is very high wages at Dnipro, which I don't know whether Leverkusen, LFC or Spurs can match or would match.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me:

LB: Erkin. Sandro or Rodriguez would be nice, but even more unlikely than Erkin. I suspect Bertrand might be about it, although maybe just stick with Flanagan/Enrique in that case.

LW: Markovic. Personally I'd love it if we were looking at him, but I have no idea how likely that is. Maybe Ayew? Konoplyanka seems more likely than either though.

CM: Teixera from Donetsk. Another one from the random name pile, admittedly. Optionally I'd be chuffed to get Meyer off of Schalke (which I imagine is unlikely) or Grenier from Lyon (probably also unlikely).

Agree0 Disagree0

Ibe
smith/robinson
suso

Agree0 Disagree0

I like Alex Sandro, but I think he will be very expensive; same for Rodriguez.

Alex Teixeira is more of a winger than a CM RDL. I would like him, but he is more similar to Willian than Oscar, if you know what I mean. Just my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

Am I the only one who thinks Shaqiri is a bit lightweight? We have better than him already IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely fair, real AG. And agreed about Sandro and Rodriguez. It's really hard to even hypothetically come up with many LBs that both improve the team and are realistic. Anyone happen to know if Danilo ever plays/played/is capable of playing LB?

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't call Konoplyanka a mercenary guys. I believe he was willing to take a pay cut to join in jam, It was Liverpool who couldn't get it through.

Pere Guardiola on Suarez: "People should just forget about it because Luis is very happy at Liverpool and is staying there."

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Mar 2014 10:23:13
Hey all,

Not posted for a while but kept up with the content.

Questions to ponder, if Liverpool get Champs League, do you think we will keep Suarez?

If Liverpool win the league, will we keep Suarez?

If we get 80+Mil for him and he is sold regardless, who would you want to sign to replace him?

Do you think Suarez would stay? We can do without distractions such as this in the media and concentrate just on the next game.

Kosovo Joe

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think he will stay. If he does leave, I'd like Costa from Atletico. Nobody else is both within our reach, and close enough to Suarez's ability. Costa would only be within our reach if we Qualify for Champions league and sell Suarez though.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Mar 2014 11:11:37
if he wants to go fair enough sell him but if its a case of let's take the money just ask the spurs fans what they think we should do.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think costa will go to chelsea with torres going back to athletico would be a good move for all parties I would think

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't see LFC selling Suarez this summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

I honestly think that he wants to stay.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Mar 2014 13:26:30
Suarez won't move this summer, Unless its Bayern or Real. And for all those who likes Costa to replace Suarez, How many assist does Costa have in his name?
Suarez isn't just a striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Mar 2014 15:04:38
Neither is Costa Harry. He actually sets up a lot of goals. He set up loads of Falcaos before he left.

Agree0 Disagree0

While costa isn't as creative as suarez, he still does assist a lot. When he was the secondary striker to falcao last season, he scored 20 goals and assisted 15. I was pretty surprised when I saw this but he's actually pretty good playing off the main striker, and if we did get him, Costa and sturridge could potentially be another great partnership in the making.

Agree0 Disagree0

Who can afford Suarez? If he left it'd be players plus cash which isn't good for Liverpool. He's got to be worth around £120m

By my calculations [Obviously just estimated and taking into account previous years rankings] Liverpool's Uefa ranking for next season will be around the 55-65 zone. Not good at all no and definitely seed 4 but looking at this years 4 seeds the following teams are in seed 1 who are easily beatable:

Manchester United, Arsenal, Benfica and FC Porto. We have shown we can already beat Manchester united and Arsenal and I'm fairly sure we could breeze past Benfica and give FC Porto a good run for their money.

In Seed 2 there are even more teams that are beatable such as: Shakhtar Donetsk, AC Milan, Schalke, Marseille and CSKA Moscow. 5 Teams there that are definitely beatable and could see us beating them convincingly at home. Hardest name of the group is Paris Saint-Germain but they are possibly going to take Manchester United's place in Seed 1 next season if they get further on.

In seed 3 there are two teams that we would struggle against: Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund. The rest, such as Ajax, Galatasaray, Olympiakos, Basel, Zenit and Leverkusen are definitely easy to beat.

Seed 4 is the bottom of the pile, which is where we will find ourselves. You will be astonished at some of the teams in this category and every single team would love to avoid drawing us. Teams like Steaua Bucuresti, Viktoria Plzen, Real Sociedad, Austria Wien and FC Copenhagen are all teams in that last bracket. Napoli are in seed 4 as well as Celtic and they are teams that are up there with Liverpool in teams you wouldn't like to draw but overall we could easily have an easy group even being in seed 4.

Easiest group would be:

Pot 1: Benfica
Pot 2: Marseille
Pot 3: Olympiakos
Pot 4: Liverpool

We can definitely beat all 3 of them teams at home and Olympiakos have an awful record with English clubs [apart from Manchester United]. Benfica was put to the test for small amounts of the game against Tottenham [who we battered 0-5 away from home] and Marseille are not exactly world beaters.

Worst case scenario:

Pot 1: Barcelona
Pot 2: PSG
Pot 3: Dortmund
Pot 4: Liverpool

Let's just hope that doesn't happen!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think the main objective next season should be to make sure we get in the champions league again.
If we don't progress far in it next season so be it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree LAVERS. The aim next season should be to make sure we get CL football, that is, we finish in Top 4, while at the same time try and go as far as we can in CL.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi mate,

Just a heads up that we can't be drawn against other English teams in group stage. I also think it is wrong to suggest that having teams like schalke, ac Milan, benfica. We have no idea how good they might be next year, we have gone from from 7th to second in a year.

Take city into account and who they got in their first few CL groups.

I think on our day we could give anyone a game especially at anfield but being in pot 4 means we will have our work cut out for us
