Eds - Can I just ask, can/have Liverpool spoken to Sterling without his bell of an agent being present? Does he actually know who he wants to go to ? Personally I think his name is tarnished now and his agent should be hung drawn and quartered for the way in which he's risking Sterlings future career

I think a lot of people on here really expect too much from our youngsters. Honestly I can't see many, if any actually making regular starting players, I hope I'm wrong I really do but players like rossiter who imo will never be a regular for Liverpool.
Again, I hope I'm wrong and the likes of flanno can make for good cases (ibe signed from Wycombe, sterling qpr etc)

Realistically who do we expect to make the squad by this time next year?

Another blanket statement. Just because the manager doesn't believe in them does not mean they don't have chance. Maybe if we saw them in the first team game play, we would b able to form a better opinion with our eyes instead of making comments that lack any logic behind them. We've seen Sterling, Ibe, Flanno, Tex, Kelly and Rossiter play and have done fairly or very well depending so if there are those, then there are others as well.

Every year we hype players up and become separated from reality!

My personal expectancy is with

Brannigan, o'hanlon, Phillips, dhanda, chirivella, Williams (but even there maybe one will make it as a prem player)

Plenty of others but the wide players have a tough path with the age of the first team and none are really standInG out as exceptional.

I don't hold much hope for rossiter although will love it as he is a scouser, but for his frame he doesn't possess anything that is going to help him avoid that being a probleM With him being a cm. Spearing 2.0. Just not got it all, will be a good mid prem player though :) same feelings with Sinclair, fast but not fast enough to play on the shoulder and strong but not.strong enough to act as a giroud/Drogba. Again got it all but not enough! These two have a lot of developing to do but fingers crossed for them and us!

The scout who brought madger, chirivella & canos to the club, holds very high hopes for the 3 of them. Especially chirivella who he says English football would need a 100 of him to change our culture as he possesses everything a cm needs! Valencia were also very upset to lose him as they believed he was there best talent from the.academy in ten years!

I think you're right in that we expect too much and youngsters need to be integrated carefully or risk their confidence, however there are a lot like Sinclaire, Ojo, Chirivella, Branagan, Rossiter etc. that have the potential if handled properly (ie. 30mins here and there etc. ).

Thants not saying we can lose Gerrard and Sterling etc. and just go to the definitely need top players to compete at the highest level and to set the benchmark for youngsters to learn from.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 May 2015 12:20:47
We have plenty of players who can make the grade it depends on how they are integrated. With regard to rossiter being too small, its complete nonsense. Claude makelele was small in stature but was one of the best midfielders in the world in his time. i'm not saying rossiter will be world class but he has the ability and temperament to be an excellent player.

Ojo shows promise as does sinclair and there are others that could make the grade with the right guidance. Something rodgers is too inexperienced to be able to do ala harry kane at tottenham. Despite the impending relaxation on ffp lfc cannot spend £100m every transfer window to satisfy peoples need for a new team every season so we have to start imbedding some of the youngsters into the squad sooner rather than later.

Eds could a way to negate agents be that the fa - I'm asking rather than assuming they can do anything like this - could put in a contract type that all clubs have to a dear to with the removal of incentives, buy outs, etc just a sheer money per week one, with the obvious rules and regs of being a professional football player outling media duties, fines etc!

Would that in anyway make dealings easier and therefore reduce the need for an agent to demand things put in contracts etc

And is there anyway the fa could adopt an nfl style system for pay ie "16-18 max pay 2.4mil (50k p/w) a year, 18-24 max pay (100k p/w) 4.8 per year, 24-retirement max pay 12 mil (250k p/w) per year" and obviously change it according to increases in revenue for clubs and keep in line with Europe, unlike the rugby were we have a salary cap and France don't so all the players go over there to get paid!

Cheers eds

{Ed002's Note - No, none of that is going to happen.}

22 May 2015 08:02:56
As much as we all say football is a business, and the players will treat it as a job. Meaning they have the right to chase the highest salary, like most of us will do. But in reality, I doubt many of our bosses have to deal with fifa fair play. And the threat of getting a fine for over spending. Yes, they can only spend what they have. But they are allowed to get loans and put in money of their own. Football clubs can't! So, for fifa fair play to work, shouldn't they start with trying some means of capping salaries to players? Then find a way to prevent the super rich clubs from buying players just to keep them on the bench. At the end of the day, its still more a sport than a business! Domination from a few sides will eventually ruin the excitement, which will eventually ruin the "business".

ive read posts about us needing strikers and i agree but last season we had 3 strikers that were not used and instead BR put sterling out of position in a strikers role and because of this sterling thinks he is bigger than the club and he is demanding all kinds and getting it like his holiday what other club will send a player from the 1st team on holiday, its no wonder sterling thinks he can demand what he wants, well i hope the owners play hard ball and stick him in the reserves untill his contract runs out it comes to a point when pride takes over money,

getting back to the 3 other strikers we had well for me they were not played enough and because of this the team suffered lack of goals, i'm sure if they had been played all season then they would have added more goals to the team and set more goals up, but because BR never used the right players for the right positions we have had loads of trouble its down to him and him alone, why bring in manquillo as a right wing back and then not play him we are paying his wages, instead BR plays other attacking players in that role and out of position, they don't know the little things about the position this is why we have had such a bad season, i do feel sorry for the strikers because i'm sure they wanted to pkay and in very sure they would have dcored more goals than sterling so I've been thinking if BR stays at the club and we get a good striker in or a defender or a right wing back whos to say he won't do the same thing, i'm not so sure, the club can't afford to be run like this for another season because i think we will finish a lot lower, let's just hope the owners do the right thing and hire some one who has vision and will play the players in their correct positions

Eds,

I haven't read his name anywhere, so I am just picking it out of thin air, Luc Castaignos from Twente as a potential striker. 22 years old, would fit the bargain mentality in terms of age, sort of a failed budding star after his stint at Inter (similar to Coutinho). could be a potential reclamation project that could reap big rewards for little money?? just curious your thoughts.

Thanks.

Do we really need a 'potential reclamation project' right now? Surely the past few seasons have shown we need a better transfer policy than that? For every Philip Coutinho, there are ten Balotellis.

22 May 2015 03:48:02
OR he could be a complete a waste of money that reaps very little reward.( plenty of examples I could mention, all been frozen out for one reason or another) we already have Origi coming in to do that and there's talk of Ings too. what the last 3 years of transfers has shown us is that we need QUALITY right now not quality for 2 or 3 years time. that's the job of the academy.

Is it though?

Sevilla are well run although I know when they were selling players as close as Alberto it was because they had money problems but I don't know wether monchi was at the helm!

My question is the type of players he brings in to Sevilla are;

1/ easier for Spanish clubs because of differences in laws (W/P's & ages youngsters can move over)

2/ have good connections with Barcelona and real for there young offspring and handmedowns!

3/ the players that are there are afew failed prem players (aspas, mbia, rhe lad who went to.reading) bur they all shine over there. My point being with this one is that does he have an eye for talent for the Spanish league and without any experience of the prem could he therefore transfer that to our league?

The other points are more about some.of the players coming in to Sevilla who have done well we might not have any access to, and therefore would limit his reach with scouts etc!

And another is the money side of things you get players go to la lagi for half of what the prem get charged and there for would you still count a lot of his buys as good if you say doubled there price tag?

I'm just raising a bit of the other side of the coin, if someone would set me straight or put my worries to bed then I'm all for monchi 😊 although balague was saying on last weeks revista that he had been ear marked for real/barce! But he had a great connection with Sevilla! So don't get your hopes up yet

Seville is a club I admire a lot and play great footie with a great academy and structure with products like Reyes, Navas, Sergio Ramos, Sergio Rico and Moreno as well as shrewd signings like Alves, Kanoute. Adriana, Julio Baptista, Adriano, Banega and so on. Great club, IMO.

Austin he brought in gameiro/bacca for less than balotelli and both have 47 goals combined. Sevilla are in their second european final, and done well in the league with those second rate players, you mentioned. They don't have the money yet still doing better than us with less wages and transfers spent.

22 May 2015 09:45:22
Would sat years redihio as the sales of navas, negredo, medel, alverto was because they had crippling debts so well run for years wouldn't be accurate and Dorset red I didn't say second rate players what I did say was the players he signed for good fees would of been a lot more expensive had they gone to the prem and there for I said would you still think his buys were good if you say doubled there price tag.

Like example of prem charges, we wanted that Greek ad from.schalke and there was talk of a big transfer fee like 20/25 mil bit the year after or same year he went on loan to Leverkusen.

Gamero cost Sevilla 8/12 mil I think but would lf code a prem team about 18/20 mil. So therefore would you still count him as a good buy. That's all I meant.

And a lot of sevillas buys are failed prem players, so does he have an eye for talent over in our league?

Or would he still sign players like mbia for us?

Weighing up the departure of Gerrard and Sterling, it's the loss of Stevie's spirit and determination that worries me most. Sterling is looking like a spoilt kid hiding behind a bully of an agent. The shirt means nothing to him. Let him g

o and buy a couple of strikers with the money. It's passion for the club we need, as shown by Flano and Ibe - cheers fellas

What do Liverpool need this summer?

1. Striker

To be fair to Liverpool FC, there were no strikers available last summer but not buying this summer will be a disaster.

We need two strikers.

An English striker who can find the back of the net. ** Either Danny Ings or Charlie Austin. **

A continental/south american striker who can do any/all of the things
- can link play if required
- can score from outside the penalty box if required
- can hold the ball up for the wingers/midfielders
- should remain injury free

I have three choices
** Lacazette - I think we can get him if we want him. If we don't do it this summer, he will be gone.
Logic - He needs first team assurance which none of the top 4 can provide this summer. With Euros, next year he may not move without first team assurance.
** Vietto - He is my choice. He is fast and can really shoot from distance. He is Argentine and I think he is really mobile with good movement.
Practically it will be risky tbring him in.
** Bacca - He is good and pacy. Though he is not really a number 9 but he isn't bad. Best part he doesn't get injured often.

2. Midfielders/Wingers

In this department I would prefer James Milner and a left footed midfielder and a left footed winger.

The reason we should seek two left footed players is because a left footed player in midfield really opens up the pitch and creates angles which the opposition can find difficult to handle.
Someone like Verrati or Kondogbia would be good example of the kind of player we should look for, not necessarily them.

A left winger is imperative because of Rodgers tendency to overload the left. The opposition knows nothing will come in from the right. Hence a left winger.

3. Right Back

A quality right back. No big name but a solid right back with a decent final ball should be fine.

4. Back up GK
I don't much is required here.

We have an English striker in sturridge zo I wouldn't count that as a necessity!

Those strikers are never happening, except for bacca who I don't really know much about as there are not many Sevilla games on except for Europa (maybe watch next Thursday's game)

Ojo is the left footed player I would bring through, its not a necessity and if we were to purchase one, it might block the line for ojo! Again though we wouldn't need one like downing ie to cross the ball, because we have noone to target!

I agree we need a defensive mid but with brendans refusal to play Lucas suggests to me he does like that deep midfielder to be of a play make type rather a defender, like can isn't a defensive mid but he can play a pass! But both kon and veratti are of the more aggressive midfields but verratti is Allen but more consistent and of a higher level he's certainly not a dm to break up play, I would love him though!

And a rb for sure but someone 28-30 as we have a lot of talent for that position in the ranks and it wouldn't require clyne for say 20/25 mil as we have a lot of players who can slot in until one of the younger crop are ready!

And gk is an absolute priority, mignolet is nowhere near good enough, regardless of goals conceded, we have actually had to change our style of play to suit him and therefore we lump the ball up to noone and continue to have the opposing team hurtling towards us over and over.

Striker - the best our budget and principles can buy. **must be injury free or a great track record! Its not even about goals but more you can't build a system without a striker and a gk! Someone like drog in his pomp with the right system would bring all our other players to life, look at giroud at arsenal (yeah at some point they need to improve that position to win a title bur still with the same sort of player)

Wings - ojo and if sterling goes pedro (as would give us maybe 2/3 good years and then leave the slot open for one of the kids to come through or step up (ibe,Marko) )

Rb - arbeloa/rangel etc

Gk - cech (number one 20 million pound 200k a week choice) but others are avalible but must be coming in as number 1 not number 2 or you end up with jones! Cech & ward for me (hopefully the stigma of young gk is breaking with the top young talent getting chances there coutios, de gea, ter stergen!) ward does look top notch!

I appreciate we may sometimes shop at a level lower than some (but appear to still overpay for some players when there level is lower than their price tag). But BR / Transfer committee seem to be able to buy square pegs for round holes then play the square pegs in a triangle system!

There was Bony and Remy who were virtually ready to be bought but BR either dithered on one as in Bony or rejected as in Remy so that debunks that first paragraph, right there. Bony would have been a great improvement on the dross strikers hope did get in so saying there no strikers in the world that could have improved us is just intellectual bankruptcy at its worst.

22 May 2015 07:26:52
Liverbird, an English striker, either Ings or Austin? Why don't we just give Sinclair the opportunity? It does my head in that we don't look to what we already have here first and give them an opportunity.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 May 2015 10:53:28
Sinclair wasn't there last season plus he needs a to spend a season on loan.

Obviously we did not go for Remy last season.

Bony is not a striker with pace or constant movement, which is what Rodger's teams need. He is phenomenal but falls into the Andy Carroll style of player. I like him but he wouldn't have impressed us.he isn't much different from Balotelli except he doesn't sulk and is a team player.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 May 2015 14:04:02
And Balo and Lambert have pace? Nonsense! Bony would have improved us with Stering Lallana and Couts around him and that is a fct, if compared with the dross he currently bought who combined, are not better than Bony.

Eds, there's a few sites saying that we had a £14.4m bid for Vidal rejected recently. That's quite a specific number to be totally BS. but is it? If it's true it would be another example of the embarrassing type of low bids we've been putting in over the last few years - he's worth a lot more, so why not bid a sensible amount to start with? Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - That would have equated to €20M a few days ago - a little over half the asking price.}

21 May 2015 21:09:15
Well at least Rodgers can't get the blame for that. What is the objective of putting in such low bids? I just don't get it at all! Not that Vidal would have accepted anyway.

Agree6 Disagree1

21 May 2015 21:41:14
Start low and hope we don't anger the other team is our philosophy!

To be fair we don't have the money to go in with a huge bid, but imagine we bid 40m and (not that we would find out like) could of gotten the player for half of that! So I do understand it, but what I find is we start low with no intention to go higher, it would be alright if we would go to the acceptable amount!

Makes me feel like brendans asked for said player and the club do a bid like that and then go back and say "oh we tried" lol

Agree0 Disagree2

21 May 2015 22:42:39
Start low and work up like with Lallana. Or take it as it is and completely false. Ed002 stated a few days back Vidal won't be joining Liverpool just like with Depay with United no point even getting our hopes up that we could be linked with a top player like Vidal

I'm not an anti-Brendon guy. But our team needs steel, passion and aggression. Klopp would bring this.

Player wise we lack the same Can, Hendo and Skertl show some but need experience.

I agree with some pundits that we require a manager not a coach developing youngsters, but that's exactly what the Fenway group want though.

Managers and Modern Football

Iv been thinking a while about BR being possibly sacked. I supported him through the season but really wouldn't be surprised if the club decided to let him go. I mean look around.

At all the clubs where expectations are really high (in terms of past success, fan base, the money splashed on transfers and the team available, ) managers have faced crisis:

Klopp with Drotmund, Ancelloti with Real, Pepe with Bayern, Moyes at United, Mourinho at RM 2 season ago, Mancini at City. (Exceptions like Wenger and Fergie of course)

In many a cases it has been unfair. I mean Real Madrid reached the semis of champions league and second in LaLiga, but he may still end up being sacked.

Even Liverpool for that matter, this season could have been a whole lot different if we had a good striker. It still puzzles me no end that BR did not push for a top striker in the summer and January transfer windows.

Maybe these days 2-3 seasons is all a Manager gets to show something substantial. The time of managerial eras may well be over.

If a Manager loses the plot ( like BR did this season) fans are within their rights to demand a change.

No manager can guarantee success and nobody can deliver season after season. So inevitably almost every manager will fail and may get fired.

No hard feelings to BR if he is sacked. I still respect him and contrary to what everyone may say and what we all feel right now, LFC is doing better than what it was 3 years ago. So please give credit where it is due, but BR did make some mistakes this season and if the owners decide to sack him then so be it.

P.S let's not even talk about the failings of the so called transfer committee (if BR is fired then so should everyone on that committee)
and the Sterling saga.

21 May 2015 20:30:54
To be frank, I don't think the famed "Transfer Committee" bought badly last summer with the exception of Balotelli. Even when seen in isolation, Balotelli is not as bad as Brendan Rodgers and the British media have made him to be.

Lets rewind and think again. Start of the season, Brendan was singing songs about all the players bought. I don't think he played any of them in the position where they have played all their life. The only exception is Lovren and guess what, I don't think he is that bad either.

If you are allowed protection of two defensive midfielders and your new club then decides to put just Steven Gerrard in front of you, then you are in trouble. His confidence was shot to pieces with weeks in Liverpool.

I am really torn to say that we should let Rodgers go because if he sets up the team well till Chrsitmas, his second half record can win him the Premier League. But he if a really big IF.

Even if he survives the summer, he may not survive the winter. WINTER IS COMING.

Agree5 Disagree2

21 May 2015 21:16:10
To be fair, I think Rodgers has been treated better than most clubs as he is still in the job! A lot of other owners don't take this long to review a managers position. Not sure which way FSG will go but at least Rodgers can't say 'they didn't give me a chance to prove them wrong' (even though deluded Brenda would)

Agree4 Disagree0

21 May 2015 22:12:25
The Liverbird - if you was a manager would you have put Gerrard in that position in the first place if everyone knows he can't play that position? If he was being phased out would you buy a replacement? would you play that replacement in Central defence or Right back whilst loaning and selling two other right backs on the books.

Who out of the players bought last year have played 10-15 games in their natural position? Then say that we bought well last year.

If you say Balotelli - then playing a game when the striker runs into space is not Balotelli does - unless to let off a firework or post on twitter.

8 players - possibly only Moreno playing in his preferred position, 115m spent - not good.

Don't get me wrong, I think Lallana, Markovic, Moreno (can has already come good) will be good signings but don't play them out of position constantly - why buy them in the first place.

I am writing to complain that a small child bullied. His name is Raheem I believe,I am reading that just wants to play football all day long and win prizes. He can't stay in his present placing as people are shouting at him and it's really not his fault. He thought he might win some prizes this year but forgot to turn up in champs league and semi final. He not interested in money not even if you paid him £900,000.00 a day, really. He just wants to play and play all day long with his mates. Preferably with his London mates who he hasn't actually met yet. Don't be mean to Raheem # he is only 20 which means he is just a kid really in football terms . I appreciate 20 is an adult in the normal world but poor little Raheem is not normal, he needs prizes and wants to be loved. Just not by you

If you would like to sponsor Raheem speak to his agent. Please don't be put off if he calls you a knob and says he hates all you represent. He is just doing his job

So let him go and play that's all he wants remember#dontbemeantoraheem

Nice.

I am curious though, is twenty a 'kid'?

Or is it because he's a short arse and looks young?

He's old enough to be labelled a 'professional, and he's old enough to receive nice wages, and he's old enough to slap a few people around, drive a Rangie etc etc.

This 'kid' label is doing-the-rounds a bit lately and it doesn't wash with me.

I wish the lad the best of luck as any player is entitled to leave a club, but he's a big boy now and as he's made his bed, he must lie in it.

Judging by the way he's acting though (which in ways is very childlike for a twenty year old MAN), my lads got a Thomas The Tank Engine bed here he can have.

I am writing in this forum after a long time.
First things First. Raheem Sterling.

I have no affection or antipathy towards Raheem Sterling for not wanting to sign a new contract.

For me he is not a pivotal player. But why Liverpool cannot afford to let him go is because of the policy which we have decided to base our future on. Chelsea and Man City have no inclination or will to blood youngsters. So they buy English/British players from other clubs. FSG want to have young players from the academy in the first team. After a decade of ignorance, LFC is willing to give chance to youngsters because of FSG. Its a healthy and important policy because it gives the team freshness, energy and the unpredictability of the youth. If local lads feature, then even better.

Selling Sterling to any of the top four clubs will mean that we will not be taken seriously by these clubs or the young players (plus their agents) in future. So for the protection of our policy (plus framework) going forward, we must put our foot down and not sell Raheem Sterling.

Next pre season will then be a good time to decide what we want to do with him.

I think there are big takeaways from the Raheem Sterling saga for FSG. The first thing they need to do is to protect their investment.

1. While offering contracts to young players, they should be five year contracts (which they do currently). The focus should be a 3 + 2 rule. If the player refuses to sign a contract after the third year, they should be played as reserves in the cup games, if unavoidable. If Liverpool can pay Borini, Johnson and Enrique not to play, why can't they do the same to Sterling?
2. Every contract should have an unreasonable buy out clause. (Eg. Ibe's current buy out clause could be 70 million pounds)
3. We should stop doing business with the top 4 clubs. We must not buy from them (because currently we can't) and we must not sell them our players. We should be notorious to negotiate (or impossible like Bilbao).

Many other feelings at the moment but will write soon again.

One good thing about sterling fiasco I bet balo is feeling unusually popular at the moment

Believable9 Unbelievable1

21 May 2015 18:16:18
Sell sterling and get konoplyanka on a free, or nobody at all. Or just don't sell sterling and convince him to sign a contract. I really don't care. He's not exactly carried us has he? And while he does have huge potential i'm kind of sick of the word so i'd probably prefer a developed player like konoplyanka.

Personally, i believe sterling is taking too much flak for this. I mean it is within his right to request a transfer, and i respect his decision, nothing wrong with that. I think a lot of fans forget these players are PEOPLE. They have families, dreams, aspirations and lifestyles too you know. Most fans seem to think they are nothing more than puppets, and that because they play for the team you support, they owe something to the fans, and the fans feel they have a right to comment on what players do with their lives. It really winds me up.

The main factor in making sterling believe this hype however has to be rodgers.

Remember when we had all this when sterling first broke into the team? You know, when rodgers was actually still sane?

What did rodgers do? Took him out of the team, stopped relying on him, and forced him to work in the reserves to protedt him from the hype. Good man management.

However now, rodgers' response to the hype has been to basically admit we rely on sterling, play him all game every game, make him un-dropable and even go so far as to play him completely out of position just to cram him into the team. Then go on to the media every single day about how he is the 'best young player in europe' and basically compare him to a demigod.

Who can really blame sterling for believing the hype after that treatment? We have ALLOWED him to hold us to ransom. When i say we, i mean rodgers.

So we have a horrendous season and obviously sterling with his new found hype wants to leave brodgers and glen johnson behind. You know, because h e thinks he's better than that. Who can blame him when you have to play under that muppet?

Rodgers bizarrly takes offence to this and feels he has a right to bully a player about in a situation he has created in front of the media. Truly disgusting behaviour from all parties involved really. Reason number 2628 why rodgers should leave. Its getting boring now.

And nobody told BR to stick his mouth in it and tell the media that he was offered a "fantastic" contract, did they? not blaming BR for everything BUT to say he had nothing to do with this is just moral bankrupcy. He, the club and even SG, have handled this as a collective debacle and the agent running his mouth and trying to make a quick buck while taking advantage of a naive youth won`t change that.

21 May 2015 22:37:33
Nobody said brendan was blameless i certainly didnt, but since he said that i have not heard him say anything further. The pundits wound up the agent and got his back up not rodgers, he could have kept his mouth shut and dealt with the club behind closed doors. He could have not advised his client to make an ill judged interview either. Its always a two way street. Now on me wanting rodgers out well i have been un equivocal about that and purely for footballing reasons. i'm not interested in his love life, white teeth, sun tan or toilet habits.

I agree, John! You are blaming the wrong guy as in the agent because you can't control what he does nor says because clearly, the bar is not very high in terms of intelligence. However, we as a club, can control what we do and how we conduct our business and we messed up on that and BR, SG and the club are responsible for this. Can't blame something on what you have no control over.

Hi Eds,

Can you elaborate on your view that Brendan Rodgers has lost the dressing room? Raheem Sterling is the only one who is openly upset but that seems more of an anti-Liverpool thing than specifically anti-Rodgers. The names I've seen that are supposedly upset are hardly players that are being hard done by. I'm just wondering what's the real situation which isn't being reported in the media?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Hello all and Eds (thanks for your work as always too).

It maybe only be me, but hope not. All this negative talk of LFC is driving me mad. I agree there are many many issues and agree that Rodgers who i backed completely has made some major, if not inexcusable mistakes, but so many of you are destroying the clubs chances next season if Rodgers stays.
I think he should go and i would love to see only a world class manager take over but some posts are just desperately negative!

We purchased several players, some of which have not been great, but how many times have we seen players struggle in their first season with a new club, regardless if they played in another league or the same!!??

We have still got a really great core. and all this saying how Lallana, Lovren, Markovic are not good is stupid IMO. Marcovic is young and very talented-although he needs to work on his final pass/contribution. Lallana is starting to show what he can do and Lovren should be used more often and in the correct place.

I honestly think we will be much better next year even without any big signings and even if sterling goes and we replace him with sponge bob square pants!

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see us finish in top 3 at all. but as i said i agree with have huge issues, but seriously don't like all this slagging off players abilities

Believable3 Unbelievable0

21 May 2015 18:12:34
Top 3 finish next season wouldn't surprise me either, even with Sterling going. And I do agree that there's more talent in the squad than has generally been shown this season.

However, I've come to the conclusion that Rodgers is very likely to undo any good work he does because of his pattern to date of not planning things long and medium term and to-and-froing on players (I can rattle off plenty of examples). I said it a couple of days ago, our likely future medium to long under him is to filter in and out of the CL places. So we could well be third next season. But then we'd be equally likely be sixth the season afterwards, then fourth, then sixth again etc. etc.

tl;dr I don't see him as someone who's likely to build the squad up and improve us continually in the long term.

Agree1 Disagree2

21 May 2015 18:19:05

There were two ways last summer was always going to go!

Smooth and no problems or a year before we see what we bought!

Next year we will be fine! Regardless of how 'bad' Rodgers is, he has shown with the right tools he can challenge for the title!

With either or both the best gk and/or st we can afford we will be just fine!

Good thing is if Brendan stays the expectation levels will be down and therefore the pressure won't be as bad and just watch us fly 😊

You can save this eds and show it at the end of next season! Just to show all Liverpool fans aren't negative and/or clueless!

Or I'm wrong and ill never be able to post on this webpage again haha

This is my Alan Hansen moment! Wish me luck.

Something red, the ONLY reason we are in the position we are now is that rodgers has undone all the good work prior to this
season.

442 diamond? Nah scrap that, let's bring in the proven failure of the 433 slow boring passing again.

Skrtel and johnson lose us the league? let's just continue to play them then.

Young players make an impression on the team? Well let's not give more of them a chance, but buy lots of players for lots of money to force them out of the team.

Players show potential? let's just loan them out then.

Buying unproven talent for lots of money didn't work last time? let's do it again then.

Sturridge is injury prone, maybe we should find someone as a like for like replacement? No let's just refuse to buy bony or remy and get balotelli instead.

I could go on but i wont.

Agree7 Disagree2

21 May 2015 19:29:58
The diamond wasn't sustainable through a whole campaign and it was already starting to get figured out at the end of last season!

Bony wouldn't of done much for us either way, don't act like he would of been fantastic for us! The problem is when the options are bony, Remy and ballo and he is potentially picking the one who he thought will work best for sturridge! Which bony wouldn't of succeeded with!

If the options were ballo, lacazette and vietto then yeah he dropped the ball but the options were pretty dire anyway!

YNWA

Agree0 Disagree3

21 May 2015 19:34:37
Yeah, Woolly, that's pretty much why I think he'll just wreck anything good he does in the future. Because he already has.

(That being said, dropping the diamond isn't something I'd give him much stick for. When we played with it, we relied on unsustainable bursts of tempo and energy at the start and sometimes at the end of matches and we were usually second best for the rest of the game, even against average teams. Considering how many close calls we had, it's miraculous that we got as far as the Chelsea game before losing. The real issue was he didn't have a clear idea on how to replace it, but that's another debate).

Agree1 Disagree0

21 May 2015 17:36:37
Whilst I agree Sterling and his agent are greedy chancers, well out of order and the slagging of Carragher in the press is probably the final nail in the coffin, you also have to consider that he possibly is serious about what he says - that he wants to win trophies. Which in turn means he doesn't see this happening at Liverpool. Personally, I think Sterling is the tip of a very big iceberg, there's more going on that isn't in the public domain (yet) and that Rodgers does not command the respect of the dressing room anymore.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

In 3 years, and only 1 1/2 as a real starter he has almost won the league and been in 2 semi finals!

I know you dint win anything for finished second eds but we are showing more than other that we are at least close to winning trophies again!

The age of the squad aswel is huge as is the commitments of everyone apart from him! If we get a top striker in apart from Gerrard and jonno we can put that title challenging team together again! And we still have ibe, Marko, lallana, can, Moreno, origi, lovren and a fully fit (fingers crossed) sturridge to add!

He's talking a load of nonsense! Its getting his move before he doesn't reach this so called "POTENTIAL" and isn't able to get the big pay check!

Pete, that might be an excuse except for the fact that we do have a center forward.

Actually there are no less than five senior center forwards on our books (ie. excluding Sinclair, Yesil etc.). All of them signed by the current management, and only one of them, who had an established record of being injury prone, btw, was injured long term this season.

So why weren't any of the other four good enough? Buying five forwards and only one of them being any good is not good management.

A bit of a strange transfer season so far and a lot of warning signs. The never ending Sterling saga is likely to dragg and dragg and overshadow the whole summer.

In the meantime, every name that is mentioned in connection to us seems to be almost desperate to suddenly sign for another team.

There were a lot of talks for weeks about Depay and us and then within one day he went to United. Koplonkya was mentioned with us and then out of the blue he agreed a Spurs move (so now it is not only the top 4, we cannot even compete with Spurs, we seemed to become the outcast of the top of the table). Now Vidal, also out of the blue agree terms with Arsenal who weren't even mentioned as candidates to get him (did we really offer only 14 million for him? That is a bit of a joke).

We didn't even finalise the two 'certain' signings Milner and Inges. Our boss go to endless discussions with the owners, reviews are coming and going, the back pages are full of sterling, this will not help to attract talented players. Honestly I don't know what is going to be worse - this summer or the coming season, close contest.

The previous summer ruined us.

I think there´s two sides to this issue:

1. LFC won´t be bullied around by players, which we saw with Suarez, who were told that he could play with the reserves. Sterling has been badly adviced, by an agent who is more interested in money than what´s best for Sterling career.

2. As most of us know we have lost some good players in the last couple of years, and now we have lost Gerrard (currently our topscorer). It´s important that we find a replacement for these goals. At the moment we aren´t financial stable and using more money would lead to FFP breach, thus LFC must sell to buy. Selling Sterling would raise funds to buy players.

No matter what I think Sterling have put himself in a lose/lose situation. He wants a move to a title winning club, problem is that the current top4, Bayern, Madrid etc. have better players, and he will have to develop fast if he wants to be a part of the starting 11.

This has been a debacle of epic proportions and I blame those involved within the club for not respecting a player and bullying him into signing a contract he is not happy with as if he has no right to decide if the contract is good for him or not and has no right to be happy. All this just played in the agent`s hands and now we are the fools in the media, not the player nor the agent

Believable0 Unbelievable9

{Ed001's Note - depends on what you view as midtable really. I would say we are upper table personally, though finishing 7th (if that happened) would put us midtable.

Again it depends on the side, City wouldn't need Coutinho as they have Silva. Sturridge (when fit), Coutinho, Henderson (maybe) and that is at best. Though Sakho fit and on form is good enough too, nearly forgot him then!}

21 May 2015 14:22:25
Sterling also.

Agree6 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - potentially I would agree that him and Ibe are, but right now I don't know.}

Agree0 Disagree6

21 May 2015 15:13:11
Definitely agree with Ed001 here on a fit Sturridge, Sakho and the potential of Sterling and Ibe. I would consider Henderson one of the best centre mids in the league, our player of the season for me anyway (consistency).

If Lallana and Lovren returned to their Southampton form then I'd have them in that bracket too but obviously not from this season's form.

Lucas would be close enough too. On form he'd be a step above Coquelin and he'd be a good squad player for the other teams.

Agree7 Disagree0

21 May 2015 15:57:28
I doubt it if Henderson would have made it to the starting 11 of Chelsea or arsenal. As for Coutinho see what I wrote yesterday about Oscar who is conisdered more of a substitute in Chelsea and I think it at least s good.

But the one who the hype around is way to big for now given what we have seen from him is Ibe. Yes, he may has some potential - but in the games so far other than taking on defenders and few games and one or two shots on targets we saw very little of him. He is still light year away from Sterling in my view.

Re where we finish next year - I will only say that if Spurs are able to keep Kane and have a decent transfer window (Konoplyanka seem to be alreay on his way) and if they keep their manager I honestly cannot see us finishing above them.

Agree1 Disagree1

21 May 2015 18:37:17
Coquelin isn`t better than Lucas. IMO, the reason LCoquelin looks good at DM for Arsenal (he`s not even a DM but a converted one)is that Arsenal keep possession of the ball so much that he is not put under that much pressure hence, is able to hide snd thrive in that system which have also made Adebayor, Fabregas, Song, Sagna and so on look good until they move to other teams and get found out as system players and nothing more. I need to see more from him before he gets into the Henry, Pires and even Kolo Toure who succeded outside of that Arsenal system

Sterling's agent gave him a way to redemption at LFC

Distance himself completely from the remarks and agent. Sign the contract. Apologize and play his heart out.

Believable8 Unbelievable1

21 May 2015 13:42:54
Loyalty means nothing in football, nor does playing time, it's about money (plus maybe a little bit to do with trophies).
If the agent is speaking for Sterling on this issue then I'm sure he will have burnt his bridges with most LFC fans & should be gone in the summer.
Yes, he is a good player but I won't lose any sleep over him going. He's scored goals but I've lost count how many good chances he's missed too.
It will be sad to lose him, especially as he's English but having seen his recent displays his heart is not in it, so cash in on him and give the cash to the manager to buy a striker etc. and hopefully that won't be BR having seen him waste the Suarez money

The agent has tried to use RS to futher his agenda and now every EPL club knows who he is and knows how self serving he can be. pity the club would have to share a huge part of the blame for this fiasco because if the club had not messed this up, i think RS would have seen his agent for what he really is. now, it is all up in flames and the situation has become untenable. People use the media to get stuff done man. LFC used the media to pressure him to sign a contract, it backfired, and his agent has taken this to a whole new level of unprofessional-ness, and has used the media to get him out of LFC so Sterling (and the agent) gets more money. This will not change for the majority of things related to football in this age.

Do you think it is fair to pressure him like the club and BR did in the media? if you think so then I suggest RS leave because this is not the best place for him and in case you don`t know, other players in the DR are looking at this and saying, "Is this going to b my lot if ever I told the club No to what they demanded?" People should ask themselves that before slating the boy for refusing to be bullied by a club and a failure of a manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2015 19:23:39
Hear what your saying Lavers on Di Maria, but we need to give him another season. He started brilliantly for us, up until his house got burgled and he seemed to lose his head. He was brilliant for Madird for a few years, he hasn't turned crap over night. If we can get him into a system that suits and he finds form we've got a world class player on our hands. Even despite a poor season his goals and assists are pretty on par with couthino an sterling so when you put it in perspective he should get another year.

Vidic and Evra first season were terrible and they turned out ok. Depay may take time to settle I think

What as Can done to make CM his own position? He needs to learn to pass the ball a lot quicker to have any sort of future in our midfield. Also we don't know how good he is in CM as he as not played much there but when he as, he as not been great there.

Agree2 Disagree7

21 May 2015 15:40:55
Personally I would have thought that Rodgers being such a good manager, and so tactically aware (by his own reckoning), that once it was known that Gerrard was definitely leaving, and that 4th place was no longer possible, that he would have moved Can into midfield (his preferred position), and given him an opportunity to display his ability (or not) to play the position in the Premiership (afterall, he was bought off the back of playing midfield formerly for Bayern Munich and then Bayern Leverkusen) . but alas not, the great "tanned one" knows best.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 May 2015 15:43:23
Playing in defence and midfield is a massive different even when considering moving the ball quicker, so I think that's a little harsh on Can in that respect.

As for Milner, he's versatile, can play pretty much any midfield role. As well as fullback and forward roles. Thus, he can hardly be considered a direct CM replacement let alone someone that would immediately leapfrog Can in that position.

I'd like to see Can moved back into midfield, where he feels more natural, but posts like these seem a little pointless until a number of things within the club become clearer.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2015 20:02:39
"In hi own reckoning" is the right way to qualify BR and his managerial skills, or lack thereof. Can is a midfielder and should play ther and NOWHERE else except we need cover for a cpouple of games. Those saying he can`t pass the ball are judging him as a CB/FB instead of on his true position which is a false argument. Judge him at his best position instead of judging him when he is being badly used.

I agree that Sterling isn't worth the wages being talked about. I see his agent is being completely unprofessional and making crude comments about Carra and belittling the club. The club also have to take some blame but I can't believe the things his agent is saying.

Agree7 Disagree0

21 May 2015 13:27:34
I hope everyone in football is very annoyed by this agent because his words don't do football any favours. Whether you like Carra or not, I watched what he said on Monday, he didn't get personal about Ward and stated what most people have been thinking - Sterling is being badly advised. This is the same guy who has been causing problems at WBA with their young player and I hope any club approached by this person about either player tells him to pee off.
Football needs to take a major stand against Agents in general because football has been bleeding money out of the game to these leeches for long enough.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 May 2015 13:31:57
The only silver lining to selling Sterling is not having connection with this Aidy Ward.

Hope these comments and his growing rep as an embarrassing trouble maker dosent devalue his client. If we sell, we should get what we want, not £10m less cause clubs worry about themselves in a few years time when Sterling wants another pay day.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 May 2015 20:06:54
It was the job of the club to look after him and take care of his best interests especially after realizing that this agent is a real peice of work. that wasn`t done and the club and BR made it worse by doing all their yapping in the media which has made us the laughing stock. Don`t really care for the agent because like many others, he wants more money for his client hence, more for him. It is the club and BR and SG, I balme for this debacle because had they handled things better, LFC would have looked in a stronger position REGARDLESS of if Sterling left or not, just like we looked good after Torres and Masch left like thieves in the night.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - In the past an EPL side made an offer to a player and his agent which they considered to be an appropriate offer. The agent put the player in a position where he demanded much more and told the club they would not discuss the issue again until the club put another offer on the table. On returning to negotiate, the player and his agent were presented with an offer that was £5k per week less than the previous offer. The player was eventually sold. In the past, two clubs in the EPL have refused to deal with certain agents, so another representative has had to help the players out.}

21 May 2015 12:20:03
Interesting.

I was thinking, that with the insatiable demand of players to play in the limelight of Madrid or Barcelona, surely it would be a good start if they were to act upon this.

I appreciate that some players haven't got the brains to deal with issues of this nature, and that they prefer their feet to do the talking, not am I criticising all agents as many are decent, but when they become egotistical, greedy and represent much more interests that the player, then you can't help but judge them as anything other that power mad.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2015 12:51:34
Surely the agent is only 50% of the problem? He is just the mouth for his client is he not? I'm sure Sterling hasn't taken a complete back seat. Yes, footballers a re not known to be the most intelligent people, but give them credit, they know exactly what they're doing.

Agree4 Disagree0

21 May 2015 17:35:11
Im tending to agree with you stuie and echo what thierry henry has said. Sterling has to man up and make decisions for himself despite what any other party has done. Yes it should not have been aired by rodgers in the first place but likewise raheem knows club policy about press conferences but still did an unplanned interview.

He must have known it would fan the flames, surely he can't be that dense. No comment on his agent, he is just a kn*b.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 May 2015 20:10:44
Stuie is right. The agent works FOR the player and NOT the other way around. It`s the players I blame for allowing their agents to mess with them all in the name of looking out for their interests. You think Jorge Mendes tells De Gea, CR, Falcao and his other super clients what to do? NO, IMO. He works for them and if he is as volatile as this Ward character, he would be out of a job. The players should step in and take control because in the end, it`s their career while the agent has other clients they can milk for dosh.

Just read about our inquiry for Sterling in the papers today. In my opinion there must be very little to it, especially after the signing of Depay. We don't need a sterling type of player and if we do go for an attacking mid/wide forward it will be Bale.

Don't read too much into it, must be the agent leaking info or the club doing so to try to prepare ground for him leaving by trying to get the fans onboard.
