With regards to your recent and detailed explanation of FFP and uefa's attempt to create a level playing field, one can't help but think that things would be more equal if it was the numbers of players you could sign as opposed to the money you could spend.for example 2 players per window( whatever the cost) would prevent the richer clubs buying a new team every year and also stimulate the promotion and development within! It would never happen but. any thoughts???

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - That sort of thing would be unenforceable.}

22 Aug 2015 17:14:11
I think it's all a load of BS. If a billionaire wants to invest the money that he's earned into making a good football club, he should be allowed.

Agree12 Disagree2

22 Aug 2015 17:29:32
I am absolutely convinced that FFP is doomed to failure as soon as someone decides to challenge it in court

Agree8 Disagree1

22 Aug 2015 20:47:56
I believe the only way to make it level is with a salary cap.
Also a cap on transfer fees so smaller clubs can also compete.
Players would still be able to earn extra money through personal endorsement eg messi on the Fifa covers. Gerrard wearing Adidas boots the best players would be offered endorsements so the incentive is still there to be as good as you can be.

I like that Ashy. If FIFA or UEFA whoever it is could force the clubs to also cap ticket costs or allow U15 free entry with the extra income not spent on players/wages. Facilities for fans improved and a "centre of excellence" for youth products as well.

Clubs could still make more then now, so should be happy and be safe. Players will still be on good wages and still reflect what they bring to a club with the capped tickets and reinvestment into football. They can have a higher % of their image rights! so the better will still stand out and be rewarded higher for reaching higher.
Clubs won't have to sell their best products and better facilities could produce a better national side.

Yeah, rose tinted glasses but wouldn't it be nice

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Aug 2015 22:12:56
I'd like to see CL money shared with the teams associations, try and bridge the gap between the haves and have nots.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - The clubs would split away before anything like that would ever happen.}

22 Aug 2015 22:25:07
Well if it's all bets off for the multi millionaires that should be the same for TV money clubs should be able to do their own why should Everton get as much as us at the start of the season

As the Eds mentioned, the problem is that the big teams have more power than UEFA or the rest of the teams altogether and they can always threst to make their own European superleage. The reason they agreed for the FFP is because it is basically a scheme against billioneres buying teams and try to make them a new superpower - which threatens the existing superpowers. I agree with those here who said that there is nothing wrong with people with money buying teams and try to make them superpowers, it just make the league more competitive - see Chelsea and City. Without them it would be United winning the league 8 our of ten seasons and Arsenal the other two.

The only real fair system I know is the one of the American NBA with draft plus salaray cap where teams in the bottom of the league get the best young talent at the end of every season. It doen't erase all differences between small and big teams but it create a very competitive league with far more than 2-3 teams winning the title over the years. It will never work in European football unfortunately for various reasons but mostly because the big clubs will never let that happen.

You have to say it is quite amazing that the current system works. You could expect that all the teams who are not the tope 5-6 teams in the league will play in front of empty stands as these teams have no chance whatsoever to win a searious trohpy but fans apperantly are just very loyal to their teams regardless of chances to win anything.

anybody know if Gary Medel is still available? Because if Lucas does go and I for one hope he doesn't then, Medel could do a job. Ta

22 Aug 2015 15:59:59
Probabl not as inter have just sold kovacic to Madrid

Agree2 Disagree0

22 Aug 2015 20:25:29
How about a trade? Lucas for Medel.

I don't want Lucas to go, but if the manager isn't going to play him, then what else can he do? He's a top player and a top professional. We will be weaker as a squad without him in my opinion.

Agree4 Disagree0

22 Aug 2015 21:33:12
what is it with Liverpool and average players, you should also look at Mikel and flamini, they walk straight into your first team.

Anyone have any idea how far away Flanagan is from fitness? Has to be our first choice left back with what we have now when fit IMO. More solid than Moreno but also offers more going forward than Gomez

Believable8 Unbelievable25

22 Aug 2015 17:11:32
Out of interest why do people massively disagree with this?

Until his injury flanno didn't really do much wrong. Yes Gomez is playing well but he's a centre half. We don't seem to have any permanent joy their so give him a try. If he can play left back for the first team let him play centre half. Then let flanno play left back.

Agree5 Disagree1

22 Aug 2015 20:53:40
I'd like to see flanno play as a dm think he'd be great there

Agree1 Disagree5

22 Aug 2015 22:01:46
I didn't disagree but for the sake of the debate il start by saying, flanno played in the defence of a team that conceded for fun, Gomez is yet to conceded.

Flanno doesn't offer any more in attack than Gomez in my opinion.

Flanno is a right back anyway!

Agree3 Disagree0

22 Aug 2015 22:48:02
But by your logic, why not just play flanno at right back as he's a right back!

Agree3 Disagree0

22 Aug 2015 23:59:02
I agree Wassa - the scouse cafu got the name while playing left back.

Although a right footed player and he see's himself as a RB not a LB, still 50% on here haven't seen him play in the last year so they must be right!

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 12:42:26
The team Flanno played in was always going to ship goals though, we had no defence cover but had the forward players to simply outscore anyone. This current side is set up far more defensively, it has no bearing on how good Flanno and Gomez are individually

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 16:50:42
To be fair, as much as we did concede goals with flanno in the team, he was by far the best defender in that back four (except for when Agger was played). He did make some errors but they were few and far between - the big point was that he showed heart, desire, a will to win and a will to improve - ingredients some of the current squad members seem to lack. Not saying Joe Gomez lacks them but that to point to the teams conceded goals with Flanno in the team doesn't really tell the whole story.

Memphis Depay is running riot at the flanks. his pace is incredible.

22 Aug 2015 13:22:08
Who cares.

Agree61 Disagree2

22 Aug 2015 13:25:30
We already knew he was good. Let's hope firmino lives up to the hype.

Agree28 Disagree0

22 Aug 2015 14:42:20
He hasn't really proved anything yet. Not saying he won't but don't get carried away by a burst of pace Harry.

Agree11 Disagree0

22 Aug 2015 14:44:07
Personally think he was pretty poor today. and I'm with the "who cares" department. United can't score and dropped points at home is a great way for me to start the weekend.

Agree29 Disagree0

22 Aug 2015 15:05:22
You've only scored two yourself pal. One off them was 3 yards offside

Agree1 Disagree39

22 Aug 2015 15:19:26
Both of yours were deflected goals. Lol

Agree28 Disagree0

22 Aug 2015 15:38:24
Your disagreeing they you've only scored two? Do you need a calculator?

22 Aug 2015 17:13:33
Haha, schweini looks in great form. United, such a wage bill and still desperately lacking quality.

Agree10 Disagree0

I do think European glory was being sarcastic . Newcastle wasted a good chance to take all 3 points

22 Aug 2015 18:10:36
Lennon is rapid, oh yeah and S&1t

Agree2 Disagree0

22 Aug 2015 20:26:06
Yeah he was so good that United ran out 6-0 winners, wait, never mind. It finished 0-0.

Agree8 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 14:04:13
Lol he's pointing out because he thinks pace is everything for a winget.shame that pace didn't lead to a goal and he constantly fell for new castles offside trap.
Mbemba had him covered quite well most of the match

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2015 12:54:57
BR coming out and saying that the ref got the offside call right even though the referee association has come out and said it was offside. Do you guys ever get annoyed that he seems to have a fundamental problem with telling the truth?

Believable22 Unbelievable2

22 Aug 2015 13:20:36
It's not a goal and the ref association are trying to defend a stupidity. It's clear cut offside.

Agree11 Disagree0

22 Aug 2015 13:21:36
I have a problem with posters picking over every single thing Rodgers says.

Agree26 Disagree20

22 Aug 2015 13:35:53
Does any manager "tell the truth". They all claim "haven`t had a chance to look at it" or "didn`t see it", when ask about an obvious error by the ref that goes in their favour.

Please, please, please lay off Rogers, and stop getting on like a big girls blouse, looking to nit pick at every little thing.

Like it or not he is Liverpool manager, so if you can`t be positive at least don`t be negative.

Agree17 Disagree5

22 Aug 2015 13:41:51
"Oh yeah, it was defintely offside. Oh and by the way, the Bournemouth goal should have stood. Lovren was playing for a foul."

Think about a second. If it doesn't make sense to you that Rodgers defended the goal, then stick your head in some ice water and try again.

Agree15 Disagree3

22 Aug 2015 13:44:17
Irish Rover, it was hardly a one line comment said in between other topics, but an entire article so not really trying to pick over every tiny thing to find fault with him. I only asked as last season after every match that you guys played badly, he'd come out and praise the team's work rate etc. And whilst I can understand wanting to defend/protect your team, this was a very clear cut decision and one in which the Premier League even came out and said the ref got it wrong.

Agree5 Disagree7

22 Aug 2015 13:57:58
What he is saying is it is a goal! Which it is! It won us the game! So it is a goal! Care to argue this fact?

Its boring!

Agree6 Disagree1

22 Aug 2015 14:03:06
It was a goal, we won one nil, time to move on.

Agree10 Disagree1

22 Aug 2015 14:37:02
I'm not debating whether it was a goal or not. The ref gave it, so it was a goal. My point was BR said that Coutinho wasn't interfering, and saying that he shouldn't have been called offside.

Amerigo tbh I think BR should be coming out, saying all of that AND giving up the 3 points to Bournemouth, paying for all of Bournemouth's travelling fans tickets out of his own pocket and even writing a public letter of apology.

Agree0 Disagree5

22 Aug 2015 15:57:08
Mu got 6 pts from two deflected goals so I think we are entitled to a bit of luck also

Agree5 Disagree0

22 Aug 2015 17:46:28
And City's result against Chelsea was a fake result and arsene wenger has never seen any of arsenals offsides and Ferguson never said that any of uniteds many many dubious late penalty awards were wrong!

Agree4 Disagree0

22 Aug 2015 18:00:16
I'm sure it won't be the only incorrect decision that results in a goal and a win this season in the PL - time to thank our lucky stars and move on, as I'm sure we'll have our share of bad luck too.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Aug 2015 18:05:55
Better pray that luck doesn't run out soon because with the shambles we are seein on the pitch ATM, were going to need every ounce of it

Agree3 Disagree2

22 Aug 2015 19:37:35
I look at the results and they say we won.
Hindsight is irrelevant.

Agree3 Disagree4

22 Aug 2015 23:17:44
If hindsight is irrelevant, how does anyone learn?

Reflection is a key part of any profession.

Agree2 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 00:01:52
If it had been Mourinho that said that (using him as an example not chelsea related); then everyone would've said a great way to play mind games with the next referee we have.

I don't rate the bloke but be fair at least!

23 Aug 2015 00:13:38
Of course it is, Ron provided it is in an attempt to make your BFF look good, which it doesn't.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 03:24:50
What BR said was that it was an excellent decision by the 'linesman'. And he was right, it was an excellent decision for LFC. Stop reading redtops who love to twist words. And no, I don't like most of his interviews myself. Don't buy/read on newsnow the 'Scum'

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 07:54:54
Well if that is how it works.
Sterling was on side against city so we won the league!! I'm happy enough to trade 3 points for the title!!
Better knock that star off the England football kit as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 09:58:05
wiwar- hindsight is obviously not always irrelevant in life, but as there is no retrospective action with regards to offside decisions in association football, in this instance hindsight is irrelevant. The result is already a matter of historical fact.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2015 10:40:45
Mourinho gets away with it because his team are the Champions so people think his mind games are working

I personally admired his handling of the media in his first spell but now I just see him as a pantomime villain - it's so over the top now it has become ridiculous

Think BR is just trying to mimic him

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2015 09:44:05
Seems Rossiter might get chances then Ed with Rodgers saying that he's in the first team changing room??

Hi ed, do you think it helps in loaning texeira to a championship club? I personally feel a prem club would be ideal. Or any other team in one of the bigger leagues. Easier said than done though!

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - so long as he plays regularly it would help, but I think he would be better playing for us regularly.}
