sturridge in .ince in. boroni back. lucas back to full fitness.
that's 4 top players in jan that we did not have a few weeks back. i for one would rather spend 25m on one top striker that that on boring and sturridge but important not the manager brendan is. so respect his views.
for those saying sturridge is not good enough remember one thing when he puts the red shirt on he deserves 100% support. loan
if he hits the ground running and scores a few quick goals it will keep luis on his toes make borini more eager to prove he can do it. allow morgan to go on loan and come back even better.
lets not get carried away by saying we have a run of pinnacle games.
lets take one game at a time.
stoke wed. never easy. they will fancy 3 pts . but if we keep the ball they can't score.
most important game is always the next one.
cheers
marker

I believe with Sturridge in, Borini back, Downing firing (?) Sterling out to prove his new contract and with Suarez we have decent options up front now! That is not mentioning Suso, Assaidi, Ince and possibly Morgan, who should get some game time too. I'd be even more happy with Walcott (forget Cavani, Llorente, it's not going to happen yet)) to show we mean business.
I'm not getting too carried away yet, but the future looks brighter than it did last week.

what is everyone going on about downing for? first we want him gone then when he has ONE good game where he made his FIRST assist and his FIRST goal and now hes brillant he should have done that from the day we signed we should still sell him in january

Can't say no assists were 100% his fault! I can remember quite a few times players didn't get their head or foot on his crosses.
MOTM in Carling Cup final too, don't forget.

Keith

Well if your going to fire stats at us, didn't he create 40 odd goal scoring oppertunities last season, and hit the bar upteen times. i don't think he is world class but there is no use in selling him yet. we will never recoup the money we spent on him but he can still add to our squad depth.
derryred

Keith- we were very bad in the carling cup final... Downing needs to show he can perform at this level consistently

Derryred is bang on there.

Brendan is a great coach, players that have been written off by many are forcing their way into his plans. Enrique, downing, even Henderson.

MIKEY

Its one game.
To show progress we have to be competitive against the bigger teams.
No point in getting too excited, and celebrating a somewhat 'hollow victory'.

Spot on Mikey - BR deserves recognition for getting performances out of players who were woeful a few weeks ago. Add Cole to the list.

cozinoz

Kenny's team?

22 Dec 2012 23:44:55
I'm shocked, i always thought Gabby Logan was Robbie Savage's alter ego, like Lilly Savage is/was Paul O'Grady's alter ego.

But after seeing them both on the motd on the t.v at the same time, it's completely thrown me and my theory out of the window.

:) Seasonal Greetings reds and Ed's. {Ed002's Note - Et vous aussi.}

Was never a fan of Robbie as a player but great as a pundit. unintentionaly very funny!

He's Keith Lemmon.

Nick

No mate he is just a lemon

22 Dec 2012 23:36:08
If Sturridge signs on the first of January, is there a possibility that he can be part of the squad for the Sunderland game on the second? {Ed002's Note - Yes.}

O hope so, I'm heading over for that match! Prating for another win!

Can someone please tell me where Assiadi is? I seem to remember reading in this site a while back that he wasn't a BR signing? From the games he's played in Europa he looked good maybe a little right footed.
Hutch

I want to know too? he looked good in europa, definilty worthy of a chance in the league so the fact hes been left out puzzles me..would be a good player to take off the bench

He is injured something to do with his knee.

Rk

He is out with an injury

No tiki-taka today. Just direct Liverpool/Dalglish style. Great long passes from Stevie G.
Who needs a manager with tiki-taka theories?
Who needs a manager?

Redken

Yes but under rogers it actually worked. Whereas with daglish, as soon as gerrard came back and Lucas got injured we seemed a completely different team.

Brendan is learning and that showed today, bar Allen coming on that is.

Keith

40 he passes across the pitch to feet is totally different to lumping it 40 yds up pitch!

Another trouble for troubles sake merchant

Style was no different today to rest of season

Lyndon

Barca won this evening whilst there manager was is hospital. Let's get rid of our manager and get Iniesta and Messi

You could class dalglishs football as 'tika taka' however it all went backwards instead of forwards

Rodger's passing for passing sake is not tiki-taka.
Dalglish did not do this, or backwards.

Looks like the Sturridge bid is true then. We have to ask ourselves is he better than what we already have? I think the answer is absolutely yes. {Ed002's Note - Have you not been reading the posts in recent weeks then?}

Despite downings great game today, I don't think he can do it on a weekly basis whereas sturridge has the ability to. I'm not going to make any pre judgements but ince and sturridge are nothing like the other English players we have bought recently.

22 Dec 2012 23:06:15
Can anyone help me here, what possesses some people to "oh so and so is crap, they're deadwood". not one of our players are crap. ok so a couple of players may not have the ability required to be a liverpool player because os age or attitude or any other reason but that is no reason to say tht they are crap. look at lucas for about 3-4 years that boy got stick and now look at him, an integral cog of the liverpool machine. doesn't anyone learn, again more recently hendon and downing, both playing really well. yes its taken a bit of time but sometimes thats all it takes and it pains me to see what are supposed to be some of the best fans in the worrld act so childish. what is going to happen when sterling has a few bad games, oh he's crap get rid, blah blah. well heres a fact - he's going to have a few bad games from time to time as will all our players. get used to it

Sorry forgot to sign my post.

We've done well, 9 points from last 12, not to take anything away from today, we played some good stuff but Fulham were woeful, I go the game every week and I have to say they are the worst team to come to anfield I've seen all season.

22 Dec 2012 22:50:11
I went to watch city today, my friend had a spare ticket so I went, the game wasn't the best, the best moment was when everyone starting singing 'if you hate man united clap your hands' and the whole stadium clapped, something I could join in with! YNWA

I was at that game to with brother-in-law who is a city fan. A few thousand empty seats, no atmosphere and lucky win! Aguero is class though, I enjoyed watching him play...

Yeah I know that's city for you! lets be honest it's no Anfield atmosphere wise! Aguero is class but for me the main man is little David silva such a classy little player, the sort of play liverpool lack!

Give Suso time, i think he'll be a successful link up player, as Silva is.

I don't think anfield would have much of an atmosphere if they were level with reading in the rain though!

Lets hope so, I personally think he's being wasted out wide and I really rate the fella, he is the nearest thing we have to silva, mata, corzola type of player. Hope he gets his chance to play in his natural position to show us all what he really can do!

22 Dec 2012 22:41:44
whats the story with sahin, he was left out after that nose bleed and he hasent rele featured since,on the bench today and unused? opionions eds and everyone else?

I was hoping to see him come on instead of Allen at the end. I do think given game time he can shine the PL.

Rk

Apparently he had a nose operation recently.

I think he is awful over rated.

22 Dec 2012 20:35:40
Do any of the eds rate sturridge
Personally I think he will have to up his game. Young and English so lets give him a chance and hope he hits the ground running IF he signs {Ed019's Note - I rate him, decent enough finisher but needs to pass more often}

22 Dec 2012 22:30:57
Love how everyone is claiming how they've always backed Downing and thought he still had a future at Liverpool.

No one is saying that, Mr Un-named poster.

Piledriver

I've made a few posts saying i'd like him to stay but he needs to play rush football, as Liverpool did today.

22 Dec 2012 22:28:14
Downing is not great and I have been wishing for him to leave to club for months.

We should pay 20 mill for the imposter who wore the Downing mask and played today. That guy was freakin unbelievable.

Shows it takes foreign and home grown players alike time to settle into the bigger clubs with the extreme high pressure situations. Downing has always been a relative big fish in small ponds, Liverpool is the biggest club he's played for by far and without doubt the most expecting.

It takes time to settle and know the other man, he was given licence to roam the wing, as Johnson was against West Ham, it suits Downing because that's where he is most effective. It's not his first goal, it's his 4 goal so far in all comps. He was our motm against Cardiff, you know when it counted in a Cup final and all. Everything changed when Kenny left and all the players have had to make efforts to change their style, even the mighty man Steven Gerrard hasn't been hitting top form, he was able to pass 40 yards sweeping balls out to the wings today, sit deep and then suddenly burst forward.. So we judge too harshly and too quickly without taking all the variables into account.

Downing hasn't suddenly become rubbish, he needs to play in the right system and he can be a match winner. Same for much of our players. Suarez is on fire because the team are playing football that obviously suits him. Be it called Tiki taka with the Dutch fluidity, which is what Rodgers has told everyone he wants to achieve or for an example Carroll being more suited to Big Sam or Tony Pulis' long ball style of playing the game.

Tacticus.

The Cardiff game was very hard to watch, doesn't say much. He needs to show consistency otherwise were going to look ilk fools with all these praises

22 Dec 2012 22:25:34
sahin should have come on instead of allen, alen is crap

Allen is very good, you may not realise it, via his performances go unnoticed as they are simple but he is very good.

Also if you look at all the managers at Liverpool since Houllier and before no doubt, they've all hand picked centre midfielders to bring in. Houllier had Bruno Cheryou (spelling) and Hamman. Benitez brought in Xabi and then Aquilani. Hodgson brought in Merieles and Poulsen. Kenny got Adam and Henderson and now Rodgers has brought Allen in.

Give him time and he'll show his worth, in time. He's very young and has played a lot of games without a break last Summer, but he still battles hard, he's not a goal scorer he's a Lucas type player, he keeps it very simple which is one of the reasons many over look him, but he is very good.

23 Dec 2012 09:24:01
i dont want to moan but allen really needs to work hard attacking wise when lucas and allen play its like playing with two defensive midfielders he just lacks idea. everyone was saying return of lucas will bring best of allen but he has not been great for past few games i think lucas return will also help sahin but only if BR play him.

everyone stop going on about Downings performance. he was crap again. should have scored more than 1 and he miskicked the pass to Gerrard.

Bet that,s what some of you are secretly thinking if you were honest. Lets give credit where it,s due and it is deffo due today. More of that and that price tag may just become realistic. Confidence was lacking and its not surprising. He has been crap and he will probably be the first to admit it. Maybe he has thought s**t or bust and gone out with a different attitude. whatever it is or was, keep it going and he may just kep a place in a red shirt.
robbie

Miss kick your talking out of your a**e ok he's not great never will be but give him a little credit for a couple of decent performances.

Reusch.

Read it again, slowly, and you will see that it says let's give him the credit he's due for that performance. I don't know, do people read things properly?

Irony is dead

I'm sure he said miss kick have another look kid.

Great performance today. Well done to downing its a pity he wasn't told he was surplus to requirements at start of season, it looks like it was the kick he needed, Anyway hope he keeps churning out mom performances.
Merry Christmas fellow reds and Ed's here's to a happy troll free new year. Ed's thanks as always for a great site.

22 Dec 2012 22:04:29
With a winnable run of matches coming up we could have a spring-board into a great second-half of the season.
Downing,Skirtel and Enrique were very good today and the performance lifted the crowd.
I would have liked to have seen Sahin play some part but I'm sure he'll get his chance.
Maybe Coates will get a run-out at Stoke though I doubt we'll change a winning team. I think Shelvey looks a bit lacklustre at the moment,though. He's definitely not a "frontman".
A home-win v Fulham is great but a week ago we lost 3-1 at home to a poor Villa. We need to get into the habit of winning 2,3,4 and 5 consecutive games. With Stoke,QPR and Sunderland to come we could make it a very good festive period.
Come on you mighty reds and a very Happy Christmas and New Year to all reds and eds.
Best wishes also to fans of Everton, Borussia Moenchengladbach and all of the clubs who've supported our fight for justice.

22 Dec 2012 21:51:11
spurs and arsenal have so far only had one result better than us this season....they beat us. Had we beaten them we would be above them. The first half of the season was always going to be one of inconsistency whilst BR sussed out his players and the players learned to play his way. As BR has said we should have a stronger second half to the season. With a couple of decent January signings, we should be in a healthy position for further strengthening in the summer. onwards and upwards. Reality Red

looks like sturridge is adone deal,hes young ,fast,direct,&at 12mil not too bad aprice considering his age & hes english so im suprised we havent paid more for him,lets face it wen it comes to us buying english or british players we pay or have paid stupid money,so well done mr rodgers,unever no when we bought torres he wasnt known as 20 or 25goal aseason man,his highest goal return for athletico was 14to16 goals aseason,& wen he came to us he hit the ground running & scored for fun .so lets hope rodgers can get sturridge to perform to his potential,& he hits the ground running,

Well done to the lads Absolutely fantastic, we wanna see more of that! Just need to find that consistency!

Once BR gets more of his players in, an we get a bit more lucky going our way (everton robbing) we will be right up there in the mix

Brendan Is the right man,

Ill save my smug comment after Wednesday when we may go only 2 points off top four

Respect to the real fans who understand what YNWA means and whom could see and share BR's vision

Hopefully others will start to have a change of heart about BR and admit, given time, BR will be the man to take us back to the top

Smug after wedensday? Can you not see Mr Knee jerk reaction that your just as bad as people who post after a defeat. See where we are at the end of the season and fingers crossed its high. Waro, I've been one of the most positive poster on this site all season

Cheers

Shak Attack

Good stuff Shak hopefully the team keeps playing, some posters have been giving you a fair bit of stick on this.
derryred

Thankfully, Rodgers had a change of heart about tactics and dropped Allen too play a 451. Good decision, we played well, more balance to the team with Lucas holding and go Allen. Downing played well and seems to be improving. You mention having more of Rodgers signings Shak, whats that to warm the bench. Allen, Sahin, Assiadi!

Ozone

I was also pleased to see allen on the bench ozone but we were against a poor fulham team i just dont want be too happy only to be disappointed later i just hope we win against stoke and have back to back wins in the league something we are not able to do for a long time . i am sure BR will start allen in the next game he has a good game .

Downing was competent but I think its no great rennaissance...

He had a poor opponent in Riise....So it was easy but a goal is a goal and an assist is an assist.......

We blame when he does nothing, so when he scores then he should get the credit as well....

His confidence will be more and since he is a confidence player, I hopewe get very good performances from him going forward....

Team played well, looked balanced - aided by a poor Fulham but we needed to score and we did, controlled the game and could've probably had double the goals we scored. Very pleased, long way to go but hopefully can keep it up, I have faith in Rodgers, just hope we make the right signings in January.

Sturidge deal done medical tomorrow. looks like a loan will be used in Tom Ince deal. BR said yesterday that he wants Robinson to go on loan in Jan so looks like he will be sent to Blackpool
Murton Red

I don't see why we don't sell them Pacheco. I think he would blossom there as Tom ince has.

22 Dec 2012 21:12:45
Brendan why bring on allen and sterling they weren't even needed.we had hendo and sahin be smart next time and stop your bias

Well i kinda do agree on this 1, I really think they should be fully rested this match. let them fire up next game. we need them to be fit n strong.

Kaizer

I find these comments unbelievable! This question should be 'why did he bring on Carragher?'

22 Dec 2012 20:55:37
Folks did we miss Allen today coz the way we played I think Allen is a Luxuary player which we can not afford him in our team at the moment until we get much better players alongside him in order to carry him at the moment we need players to carry us rather we should carry them or players who can contribute.

Wish people would stop being cowards and leave their names when slating young players

Joe Allen is going to be a top, top player for Liverpool for many years to come. I just you go watch some of his earlier LFC performances when he won player of the month voted by LFC fans.

You're grtting he never had a bread playing in olympics over the summer and covering for lucas and has been carrying Gerrard for the most this season on top of that has beckme a father

If u were that confident That Allen will be a flop then you would leave ur name so we can all come back to you when he starts becoming MORE of a top class player

Shak Attack

Crying out loud!
Please tell me how someone who's job is to win the ball play it simple and close down
A "LUXURY PLAYER"

My God did you think about that before posting it

Lyndon

*Never had a break*

soz for spelling mistakes, blaming it on the touch screen!

Shak Attack

Well i cannot believe your saying that. Please tell me how well we did without lucas in our midfield last season, now this "luxury player" has come in and provided brilliant cover for lucas.
derryred

Shak attack let me tell you one thing he was voted player of the month when lucas was not there and he was playing in that position braking the play and just keeping the possesion now lucas is back
and when lucas and allen play its like playing with two defensive midfielders coz allen is not that great attacking threat .stevie g or sahin should be played alongside lucas .

In my opinion the best thing about today was the fact we killed the game off how many times have we totally dominated with a 1.0 lead to then only get a draw or worse lose? Good win from the boys happy with that, and four different scorers.

P.S the Anfield pitch doesn't look to healthy? Re-turfing for the new year?

22 Dec 2012 20:43:50
I'm afraid that I see the glass as half full instead of half empty about Sturridge. Rodgers obviously knows him from his time at Chelsea and is confident of keeping his much spoken of attitude in check. Sturridge will be familiar withe the formation and has played with Borini in the past too. Ultimately he is tall, strong, plays through the middle and can score goals. SJB {Ed002's Note - Rodgers does not know Sturidge from his time at Chelsea.}

Rodgers and Sturridge met on match.com last Wednesday

Thoughts?

When he came on he kept losing the ball!

Shelvey wasn't Exactly Fantastic.
So don't see how you can say that
Digging for Diggings Sake!!!

Lyndon

Disagree mate sorry.
We play well when everyone is fit and fresh. Allen and sterling needed a rest.
They should have been rested sooner really.

MIKEY

Agree, midfield looks like it has bite when he doesn't play, when he does we seem vulnerable and the boy cannot tackle. plus Lucas can do everything he does and more, not sure were allen fits in when we play this well without him..

22 Dec 2012 22:15:35
Lyndon's right. Digging for Digging's sake.

By the same logic you could put our performance down to not having Sterling in the team. It'd be equally as absurd.

Something Red. Misunderstandings I would of played Suso in the middle and Sterling on the wing and not played Shelvey until he stops controlling it further than I can kick it

I must admit with Downing rediscovering himself, it's like buying a new player. Of all the KD signings (apart from Suarez of course) Downing and Enriques are beginning to justify their transfer money. That assist by Downing was worthy of MoM itself. Surely his future at least for the rest of the season is at Liverpool.

If he keeps it up. I always thought he would come good. But one MotM performance doesn't justify the fee. It's up to him if he's going to stay and fight for a place in the team or if he's going.

It was just one game if he does it consistantly for the next few games i just might change my mind unfortunatly for him i think it has happened too late and that he will be sold in january

Great ball by downing. stevie must get alot of the credit for the run. haven't seen enough of that out of him lately.

i see arda turans a rumour which is good but i havent seen much of him this last few years. in ur opinion ed do u think hes good enuf 4 the epl and for liverpool? {Ed001's Note - good enough? Yes. The issue was more his injury history.}

22 Dec 2012 19:56:17
Think the negativity is about his alleged selfishness and poor attitude but I don't know him so I can't really comment. What I haven't seen though is him possessing the talent that someone like Robbie Fowler had. He was certainly selfish because most goal scores are but he knew that there were 10 other guys on the pitch wearing the same colour as him and for the most part always handled that well. He could stick them in with any part of his body and make it look like he meant it. Sturbridge seems a much different player but better than me think he'll do a job for us so I'll at least give him a chance to prove or disprove that.

What club does Sturbridge play for ........

Curious about your honest thoughts regarding Sturridge as a player, eds.

Thanks,

JCS {Ed001's Note - no shortage of ability, but he is not a team player. I get annoyed enough with Suarez trying to do too much, Sturridge takes it to a whole new level.}

Ronaldo? as greedy as u would find still a top player.. give him a chance i know there is no comparison between ability of Ronaldo to that of sturridge but give him a chance..

what a change a good result can make. no negativity! Its great. Downing i thought was great and collectively we looked strong today. I always thought we would have poor start (first 10-15 games) but to be fair while our points tally is not high a few teams this year have lost also so the gap between us and top 4 is less than i thought it would be

Love this club, in high and low times...prefer high though!

Apart from Sterling the only shining light I saw in the Liverpool squad during that torrid start to the season was Sahin. But he seems to have completely dissapeared and I know he's not on the injury list. I was wondering could it possibly be something in his loan contract that means they don't play him? If it is what will it say?
Thank you and top website!

Not Henderson improving rapidly
Suso getting games. Wisdom coming into the team!!

You couldn't help yourself could you. Cant moan about tonight So I'll just find something else.

Lyndon

He got injured hasnt he ? am i right in thinking iv seen him with one of those face protecting masks?

jayblair89

He is sort of injured on his face right now, but I don't think it is that serious.

Piledriver

Sahin isn't up to scratch. Real Madrid took the proverbial in the Owen/Nuñez farce. We should have learned. They don't give anything decent away.

Not injured? He has a broken nose lol

Think sterling is overated at the moment, he will get better but up to know hes not as good as people think

Sterlind and sahin the only shining lights? Allen was immense at the start and what about suarez?

He broke his nose in Europa league game a few weeks bk not sure but think it was young boys and only today returned to the bench

Bangor eye dave YNWA

'sort of injured on his face'!

Or you could say 'he broke his nose'.

I think I like yours better.

This is a warning to everyone. Yes, this result is exactly what we needed. We currently sit in 8th position, 5points off from 4th. DO NOT get excited and carried away. Like I've said time and time again, the only time in which we should start talking about 4th spot is when we show some consistency. Until then just be happy that were in the top half of the table where liverpool is supposed to be. Lfc always had humble fans so show it.

Talk about 4th when we are in 5th now were in 8th we should be talking about 7th.

MIKEY

Liverpool needs to be in Champions list not the top half!!

Chris

5 points off 3rd too mate

22 Dec 2012 19:45:29
With downing tearing it up lately do you still expect him to be moved on. Looks like he's finally finding his feet

- slim

Consisitancy is the key word - that's what makes a good player a great player! He needs to play like that every opportunity he gets!

NS

He's still a long way off mate.
I hope he keeps it up though and proves the doubters wrong.

22 Dec 2012 19:36:46
hopefully waro and ozone can go away from the match happy today knowing their money was well spent or will they still have somthing negative to say? so what is it you two, what did ypou think of the match? i thought downing was superb but seemed to drop off towards the end, lucas is starting to look like his old self, skrtyl was awesome and just edged agger in my opinion, suso needs to be in the middle but was still ok, gerrard was decent today as well, one of his better days. all in all it wqas a good match but fulham didnt look too be at the races today so that helped, but we still deserved to be 4-0 winners and could have had a bagful more. if strurridge arrives then i can see a few more matches with this scoreline. so all you BR haters stick that in your pipe.
huddz red

Their only negative, will be that the possession was not 90%, and that Reina didn't score.

Piledriver

No actually it wasn't money well spent, my pie was cold at half time my seat was freezing when I first sat down and I think i've got a varruca coming on my right foot.......
We played well. Great result had a fiver on 4-0, Downing was excellent, m.o.m. would be Stevie but because he has taken a bit more s**t than Stevie I would give it to Downing ( surely not a Kenny signing playing well, who'd a thunk it hey! ). Had a laugh and a few beers with the boys after it and just polished off a Singapore fried rice, now just gonna settle down for m.o.t.d. were no doubt we will be last on. Seriously you ladies have got to stop looking for an argument and just enjoy the win, give your opinion on the performance/players and leave it at that, i'm sure I will post something for you to have a pop at me for in the near future, so there really is know need to seek me out for a verbal scrap. So just come off the gas, calm down and paint your toe nails or something while you watch the highlights later.

Waro

Hey, hey i wasnt looking for a verbal scrap mate, its just a bit of banter. that first bit made me laugh actually, see you can be normal sometimes. you know when your not being whiny you can actually make a good point just like you have done. listen mate i was just having a bit of fun. being able to debate with others without it turning into selfishly abusing is a good thing and you can do that, thats why i asked what you thought of the game. what pie did you have and was it really half cold? ;S
huddz red

22 Dec 2012 23:12:22
Fair enough huddz red. Didnt have a pie fella, my body is a temple, pity knowbody worships it though.

Waro

Waro, regardless of who signed downing you need to understand only brendan rodgers has been able to make him produce 2 performances in a row that deserves to wear the lfc shirt. kenny & comolli may have acquired him but the only person that has made him worthy of the shirt is our current manager.
seeing his potential is the easy part, taking it to the level that lfc require is what managing is really about.

open your eyes, henderson, downing and enrique have only truly looked anywhere near the value in an lfc shirt since rodgers has arrived.

s.p

Waro's first response here is quality.

Fantastic win! Can't remember the last time we were so comfortable from start to finish! Downing was awesome, Lucas bossed the midfield, and Skrtel - what a striker's finish! We sorely missed Enrique's energy and runs down the left, and he delivered with a great assist to Luis; I could go on, but my MOTM has to be Stevie - he was everywhere, back on form and topped with a second goal that turned the game for us. Very welcomed Christmas cheers! Let's keep it going against stoke!

Singred

Stevie had a good game but man of the match has to go to Stewart Downing! He won it on ESPN! and he won it in my eye's!

Downing has to be the man of the match for the last 2 games. he was amazing even against Villa

The 2 games before today Downing was probably the best player in both games (or at least up there).
Today he has been awesome. He has an assist and a goal.

I've enjoyed watching us play for most of this season. Ok sometimes the results have gone against us, even against Villa last week, we should have had 3 or 4 in the first half hour. If we could have taken 2 chances in that half hour against Villa, we would have probably won that game 4-0 as well. Taking the early chances can make all the difference to the result.

Hello Ed002,
can you tell us if you like the changes, direction Liverpool is heading and their style of playing this season? I must say I`m disappointed with the points total but I have to admit that Rodgers is doing great job so far and it looks promising. {Ed002's Note - My fear was that the Liverpool job have been a lttle too soon (a year or two or a job too soon) for Brendan Rodgers. He has a style of play that he wants the players to adopt and it is now becoming to come good. We will see if it can be sustained through to the summer.}

You are the worst type of supported in my opinion. You will do the exact same thing as everyone else but your the first to kiss then as soon as they play a single match at a level they are supposed to be playing at. Downing is still a below par player, and gerrard is starting to show he is past it. Great for them that they played a good match at last but 1 out of 17 doesn't tell me anything.

Since when did football fans become such hate filled angry people, football used to be about supporting your team not hoping others do badly. Its because of fans like this Anfield has lost its once famous and envied atmosphere, granted quiet a lot of decisions haven't gone our way this season but surely that should spur us on more to get behind the team.

This site is for people to share their opinions and everyone has the right to voice them but some people are so hostile it boarders on psychotic. Now i agree the site wouldn't be the same if everyone had the same opinion, in fact the world would be a boring place, but please try and form an argument rather than just posting he's crap, he needs to go. And the term deadwood is just wrong, no Liverpool player is deadwood, no player from any team should be referred to as deadwood.

Win, lose or draw today i'll still be supporting Liverpool but some of you need to seriously change the way you think. Some of the abuse the players get on here is sickening, players as young as 18/19. No player goes out to play badly but hammering the lad when he's not at his best isn't helping anyone.
Then again a player that hasn't even kicked a ball for us yet is public enemy no.1, would Sturridge improve our squad? Of course he would. Now he wouldn't be my personal choice but at least i'm willing to give him a chance, i hope every loyal Liverpool fan does the same.

Just hoping for a win today and then maybe the boo boys can have a few days off, plus it will be easier for the ed's who have been doing such a fantastic jobs for years now, if it wasn't for them our only sources of information would be Sly Sports or worse the papers (the horror). So thank you and a very Merry Christmas to all the Ed's, Macca and the majority or the regular posters who make this site a cut above the rest.

Assaidi is average, that's why! He just needs to get the ball into the box instead of farting about, going one way, then the other, then back again. No striker can make a run if they never know when the ball is coming in.

Liverpool are now 4/6 on from 10/11 to sign Fernando Llorente as the wagers continue to be placed on the Spaniard moving from Athletic Bilbao to Anfield in January. these odds on a website. what is your honest thought eds. {Ed002's Note - Whilst Fernando Llorente is still interesting a number of clubs talks of a January move to Juventus have again taken place with agreement on personal details reached with Llorente's advisors. Whilst Chelsea, and I suspect Manchester City, have dropped their interest, a number of other clubs were scared off by the size of the transfer fee being asked by Athletic Bilbao, regardless of his contract expiring in the summer. There is now a good chance that he will move in January rather than waiting for the summer. Recent interest from Arsenal, Spurs, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona has been ramping up but will likely come to nothing. Athletic Bilbao are not getting value from the player right now and are resigned to losing him and I suspect will seek to get Juventus to double their low offer to facilitate a January move. His alternatives will be to sign a new contract (very unlikely), sign a pre-contract in January for a summer move or to let his contract run down and go for a good sized signing on fee.}

Now that would be some christmas present if he signed!

I'm sorry but Downing really.....

What message does that send to the rest of the team especially since BR has come out and said that Downing can leave in January...

BR will probably now not play Downing as a winger today he will switch roles with Enrique.... Mind boggling

Curled1

Rodgers is playing Downing and Cole because he wants as much money for them in Jan

Hi eds. Does anyone know if we have a plan b if Sturridge falls through? Cheers. lapwing_47 {Ed002's Note - A number of players have been looked at and there will be plenty of time to sort something out - howver, I still expect it to go through so it won't be necessary to go to a plan b.}

A number of reliable people on twitter and even Rory Smith (Telegraph) is saying the issues are sorted and he may even undergo a medical with us in the next few days.

22 Dec 2012 16:10:10
hi eds you said liverpool don't sign players just because they are liverpool fans but rodgers said he wants players who are ready to fight for a Liverpool shirt and i dont expect turan in january but whats stoping rodgers going for a worldclass player who will put in 100% every game like kuyt did. turan is a lfc fan and would be like a better version of kuyt with the same work ethic. {Ed002's Note - It is no more than "gung-ho" talk from Rodgers. There are several things stopping Liverpool going for "world class" players in January.}

22 Dec 2012 15:55:13
hey lfc fans, just like Macca said ....i dont think we could say to ourselves that we should be having top players like cavani etc etc
we realise where liverpool are right now

we have to build as we dont have the super rich owner to get us out of trouble......like real madrid, ac milan, psg, chelsea.....these teams have the money to get out of trouble.

so just my opinion dont go crazy........but pobgreniak..benteke..kone..and ba..........are the type of forwards id like at liverpool..........strong..can hold the ball up...great in the air.....skilful to keep the ball..and all have an eye for goal

dont look at names or where they play here...just saying..i hope br..somehow finds some gems who are fairly cheap

red lobster

That's the problem Red Lobster, unfortunately our club in terms of results and player standards has dropped to mid level standards over the past two decades. Where once we started the season with talk of actually winning the title (and realistically we did), we now talk of making the Top Four, and if it eventuated would talk of it as achieving great things ... in terms of results and standing, and as hard as it is to admit we are no longer England's finest!

Yes as fans we would love the "Big" names to come, but lets face it, the owners don't have the funds like e.g Man City, PSG who can simply "buy" a players signature with over the top wages, the club simply doesn't have the drawing power it once had and nor does it have Champions League to offer, plus certain players are naive to England in the fact that outside London - Liverpool as a city, doesn't exist.

On a personal front as a die hard supporter of the club the above mentioned paragraph hurts to say, but as a realistic supporter I know it is true, will it change, I hope so and the sooner it does the better, but at this stage we need to be very shrewd and wise.

As an side I don't really think the fair play rules will help our cause as I see clubs like e.g. PSG finding loopholes, as per their announcement yesterday.

These things take time

22 Dec 2012 15:54:43
I know football is a business these day but i think blackpool are being cheeky wanting more money for ince. {Ed002's Note - Do you think Liverpool should sell their players for less than they think they are worth?}

22 Dec 2012 15:49:44
Do you know what? Not only does Macca give us reputable information, he also speaks sense as well. Sturridge would represent a massive improvement to the squad and has the potential to be a top player. All the talk of Cavani, Llorente etc. is total pie in the sky, we're a long way off attracting players of that ilk.

22 Dec 2012 14:49:28
I'm confused as to why so many people moan about our transfer targets before the window has even opened.

Players are looked at and some deals are agreed before hand yes, but that doesn't mean that's all we are getting. It is not in the club's interest to divulge this type of information to fans because it only makes them disappointed or dubious towards players they have not heard about before.

How many of you knew about assaidi or carrol before they happened? Things ch.

22 Dec 2012 14:48:39
HO HO HO fellow reds just want to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a smashing new year YNWA

Hi Eds, I've heard a rumour that Ed002 has actually replied to a post without using a poor level of sarcasm? Any truth in this? {Ed002's Note - I was not being sarcastic. The way the so called fans address the Liverpool players, and soon to be players as crap, utter crap, dead wood etc. should be a matter of serious embarrassment for everyone.}

I'm very embarrassed eds :((

22 Dec 2012 15:05:53
Eds just don't let people like this comment, they make real fans look bad! We're meant to be 'supporters' of our team not point out every bad bit. I have had a season ticket for around 4 years now and every home game I am ashamed every time the away fans sing 'anfields a library' and we give no response. We all need to just get behind the team no matter were we are because we support them through good an bad! Sam

22 Dec 2012 14:46:45
Really don't understand why Brendan persists on Downing at LB when Enrique is inj or is pushed up to the wing. Robinson has proven he is good enough and deserves more opportunities in the first team. If a cover LB is bought in Jan or in the summer would really like Robinson to be loaned out to a Prem club to gain experience, wouldn't hurt and he'd come back a better player.

Hi eds. Any news on a new centre back? Caress only got til end of season and if we get an injury to agger or skirtel we'll have no cover. As an aside, I'm feeling a bit underwhelmed by the sturidge deal? For the money he'll want wage wise we could get a very good international striker. {Ed002's Note - What about Coates? Wilson? Coady? Kelly when fit?}

Ed002, Wilson are you having a laugh or what,utter crap,and that's been kind

alan50 {Ed002's Note - Apologies, I lose track of which Liverpool players fall in to that category of "Utter Crap" and which fall in to the category of "Dead Wood". I remain astonished of the complete lack of respect many opf the posters have for the owners, management, players and other staff at Liverpool.}

Dont come on here then u wont be missed u chelsea mug {Ed002's Note - Another anonymous mf embarrassing the club further. I truly feel sorry for people like you consumed with such spite for the Liverpool players.}

Ed0002 do not pay any attention to these persons they can go h*** themselves. they do not represent anyone from our supporters

In response to Macca:

I don't think fans are truly negative on Sturridge. Negativity is hatched from poor form. If we put a few wins together, I am sure fans will be optimistic about Sturridge, Ince and whoever else we become linked with. I recall when Kenny first took over, and we went on a run, players like Kuyt, Maxi and even Spearing looked amazing and all the fans were touting them as heroes. Same would go for Sturridge if team started winning, irrespective of his goal return.

While I don't think our current squad is capable of competing for top 4, I do think we are strong enough to beat 14/19 teams in the PL on a regular basis, and certainly so at home.

Once again on Liverpool homepage a player is talking up Fortress Anfield. I realize the players are probably told to say this to get fans support, however, it is atleast the third time this season a player has come out and said this on the homepage, with no result or resolve. I wish these comments would only be posted after a decent string of home wins, when it would have some meaning.

Coop

Coop; If we won just 14 teams on a regular basis, that would mean 14x6point= 84points and the league, I wish this was true

22 Dec 2012 13:50:39
for all those asking why Assaidi is not playing and how Rodgers has bought him and not used him. He is injured with a leg injury

As it this special time of year again, after Xmas there will be a man without a job. An old fella, a man with a really cool beard, a man who is very jolly, a man who used to wear red and white... what's his name again?

Erm,..... Andrea Pirlo that's it ;)

Anyone who slates Henderson clearly just watches match of the day, been very impressive this season especially of late and a much better footballer than shelvey but yet he gets not grief what so ever

I personally like both players, but Shelvey just edges it for me. There's something about his style of play and general personality on the pitch. Did you see how vocal he gets with opposition players during west ham? He was winding them up constantly, James Tomkins got an earful off him and lost his temper which was funny for a fan to watch. Henderson is a good player and works hard but doesn't have the same grit as Shelvey, in my opinion.

Red Raw

If we're talking about personality Shelvey romps it..both are gonna be good players though

22 Dec 2012 13:29:19
No move for butland, nor should LFC want him at 6 million+, he's played at league 2 level and because he goes the euros (only cause ruddy was injured and Robinson and Carson didn't want to go) suddenly he's world class?? Remember Chris Kirland and how much we paid for him......

Barry1243

Id rather have butland than either robinson or carson they asaloute uselss and the lad has a full future look at hart he come from a lower league than butland

When was the last time LFC had a striker in the Ba/Benteke mould; someone who is strong enough to hold the ball up and bring others into play whilst having the speed and composure to run past defenders and finish with comfort. Would definitely love one of Ba, Bony and Huntelaar. But, i'll support anyone who puts that red shirt on. Merry Christmas redmen and happy new year, hoping for 3 points today!

AsianRed

We might have one in sturidge in just a few weeks.

Why arent you letting my comments through? I was asking whether there is any remaining interest in these players as there approaches made over them in the past 6 months/year, even though they have switched clubs since.

Luken {Ed002's Note - Which players??????? Hopeless.}

22 Dec 2012 12:21:06
Ed's do we have any scouting networks in Holland? Their league is full of future talent and gifted players who could easily play in the prem. I think we should start looking there for players. {Ed002's Note - Liverpool are aware of players in Holland.}

22 Dec 2012 12:13:00
This is in response to Maccas latest post. Personally, I totally agree. There are far too many deluded fans out there that think if we don't sign the Torres/Suarez/Cavani/Higuain types then we're seen to be failing?

Personally (despite our league position) I've been for the most part very impressed with how our team is performing week in week out and especially with only 1 recognised striker.

If we brought back Ince who is on fire at the moment and bringing in a player that is scoring for fun (albeit in the Championship) it still can only be a positive influence on the rest of the guys. Sturridge for the most part that I have seen him has been very good, he's a good finished with bags of talent ok and maybe a bit of attitude but if he takes the pressure of Suarez and chips in with 10 goals + then whats the problem?

Jeffren would also be a quality signing even if it is only on loan.

We're moving on in the right direction fellow reds and I just think due to our past people expect instant success and have too little patience. If you want to watch players play for the money instead of the shirt then go watch Chelsea or Man City.

Thanks again to the Eds and Macca for all the insights and helpful info, Merry Xmas fellow reds YNWA

Could the Eds or anybody else tell me why Assaidi doesnt seem to be a getting much of a look in, from the few games he's played i think he's been impressive and offfers something different. Is he injured or whats the story? Thanks in advance {Ed002's Note - This is a regular "Dear Brendan" question.}

hi eds, i notice a thread from 14.20 yesterday has dissapeared, i was just going to check to see if an unnamed poster had writtn back when i noticed it had gone. did you end up getting abused by some person or is it something i said? if it was something to do with me then i apologise sincerely.

eds, do u think there is any chance of us signing marin on loan from chelsea. good winger and will support suarez. {Ed052's Note - no chance}

22 Dec 2012 11:21:39
I will just wait patiently, and see who we actually sign/get in Jan.
No point in getting to worked up about it.
Hopefully common sense prevails.
Its not my job 'on the line', so BR needs to make sure he buys wisely, because many concerned parties are watching.
He can't afford to get it wrong, as the prgress of LFC (under his tenure) depends on it.
A pity we missed out on Loic Remy though.
Tumbeleweed Red.

22 Dec 2012 11:16:28
thought we lost the game in midfield against villa stayed solid and countered us think we may have more joy today as sidwell suspended diarra injured leaves them a little short to compact there midfield i would like to push gerrard further up on the right today also and bring sahin in behind suarez think they can add goals in advanced roles suso on the left with allen lucas keeping it simple and tight mayhem1981
(can you add in banter please ed)

If you believe Brendan, Allen is being rested, so midfield of Gerrard Lucas and Sahin would do me, if Sahin is fit again after his broken nose. If not then Henderson, with Shelvey on the bench. I want to see Suso at some point though, even if only as a sub in the second half.

22 Dec 2012 10:55:17
I think Sturridge is a good player though selfish with the ball and sometimes indecisive.

My big gripe at the moment is the 6 million pound price tag on Ince. That is incredible, and for me...incredibly unnecessary.

RuncornRed

My big gripe is that his agent is looking for a clause entitling him to percentage of any sell on fee. As if we are a stepping stone for his career and he is doing us a favour by signing! Bad attitude and ego we do not need and neither can we afford.

Don't want him period!

22 Dec 2012 10:49:24
Is drenthe still a free agent? Just wondering because he looked good at Everton and there were rumours he was going to be looked at when he returned {Ed002's Note - He has agreed a deal to move already.}

Hi Ed's,

Just a quick question.

I was looking through at the transfer page, and noticed we are odds on to sign Llorente before 1st Feb 2013. I know a betting company are not to be trusted with rumours as a large part of the odds come down to the volume of bets received from customers, but it confused me as to why we are odds on to sign him when in reality we are nowhere near that. I know you've answered Llorente god knows how many times, but do you have any information as to why he would be odds on, as I certainly don't have us favourites to sign him, and certainly not in January.

YNWA

Muzzafan {Ed002's Note - The odds will change based on wagers placed.}

Honestly don't think he will be coming to england!

Merry Xmas to all the Eds and thanks for all their hard work. Wondered whether the site will be down for some periods over XMAS as they deserve a rest as well! IF so when Eds?

Iggypop {Ed002's Note - We are open of Christmas but closed throught January.}

22 Dec 2012 09:50:29
What do people think of the possibility of Anelka? Available on a free but 33 now and not sure how quick he still is. Personally was sad to see him go and thought he did well for us. Would put him in the shop window from his side and might be a good short term solution to the striker prob.....might be costly in wages though no fee?

Iggypop

Redknapp is showing how useless he is by attempting to sign a player who's best days are a very very long way behind him. Even his last season at Chelsea was very poor (if memory serves) so I don't think we should go anywhere near him

Chris in Tamworth

We shouldn't go near him anymore and even when he was very good i still do not think he was ever a Liverpool type player and did not suit our style

Gareth

22 Dec 2012 09:19:28
OK fellow fans, here's a dilemma.

What price would you sell J Henderson at?

We're being stung right now for letting Ince go for next to nothing, but we've held on to players like downing that have depreciated like a 1990's range rover.

Should he stay, should he go? How much?

Stay. He will come good and has years left in the tank. Do not be hasty!

Iggypop

Don't think we should sell Henderson at all. He's a young English player and with him Lucas and Shelvey provide depth in the midfield. He's also very versatile and I hope BR has seen this. Cut the poor players (Downing, Cole), not the players who add to the squad
G

I have to be honest and i pretty much never say anything negative about the players but for me Henderson is not the player i think others rate him as.

I could be wrong but for me a little clumsy, rarely threatening and looks too often like he is just looking to get rid of the ball and avoid responsibility.

I do think he has got better but really never see him being good enough. Look at other young midfielders of the past and present and he isn't close to any that became great...IMO

Gareth

Oh, i'd sell if we got anything between £12-16 million but not less than 12 for sure
Gareth

22 Dec 2012 11:26:14
I think we should keep Henderson for another season at least as he has long contract and seems like decent player with some good attributes and just needs to be played in right position but having said that we have Gerrard, Shalvey, Sahin and Suso all in same mould of attacking midfielder which means we only have Lucas as holding midfielder and Allen in front of him.. we need someone who is very much in midfield mould like Sissoko or YVilla.. Too many attackers in team sometimes doesn't give much options. Gerrard doesn't want to defend and has lost pace and speed and must be used wisely. he is either should be played in protecting defence (He started his career there) or top right attacker exchanging passes with Suarez and kind of free role with no defensive duties. He still has loads to offer but must be used according to his attributes now.

Harry Oldbury

He's still very young and still improving. I would say keep him. Everyone was saying get rid of Lucas for years and now he's one of our most important players. Not saying he will ever be as good as Lucas but having him here is not harming anyone, he's only being used as a squad player anyway and we wouldn't get much money back from him. But he could still turn into a half decent player with a good attitude and you don't find too many of them these
days.

22 Dec 2012 09:15:40
Reading alot of posts about how Sturridge will be a failure. Wasn't it around about this time last year that the majority of posters on here 'Knew' that Jelavic wouldn't be good enough for the LFC and the EPL. IMO if we had signed Jelavic we would be playing Champions league football now and have another FA cup in the cabinet.

As has been mentioned, He will improve our squad and push us further up the league. When Ba left West Ham, Most posters would have gone mad if we had signed him because he wasn't Liverpool 'class'. Look how his fortunes and standing have changed. Lets hope LFC can be the same springboard for Sturridge.

Tommy Walsh

My issue with Sturidge is his consistent form at Chelsea. Given the opportunity to pass the ball to a a colleague in almost certain goal scoring position or take a 1000-1 strike himself, he takes the selfish option 99% of the time. He reminds me of Milan Baros - but with even less vision (if that's possible). I only hope, if Brendan is set on buying him, he has a plan for changing his behaviour.

On the issue of Ince, does anyone know who decided to sell him?

Grayswood {Ed002's Note - Ince was not sold - his contract ran down.}

I'm glad we didn't buy Jelavic as I think he'll be a 1 season wonder

Look at Jelavic's form now, Ba has been consistent but you can't base skill of one player on how another has turned out

22 Dec 2012 09:09:39
Hi all, my first post here.

In my opinion, since KD took over, we have been playing relatively okay, putting the ball on the ground quite abit and creating a number of chances. However, I think that the intensity of attacking pressure is missing. We need to have a sustained period of attack and try to force the goal. Our movement now is not sharp enough in the final third, not fast enough. And we are not getting enough men in the box. Other than suarez there is no one in there. the AM and RW/LW must get into the box when the other RW/LW is in possession. The RB/LB should overlap more often and put crosses into the box. When the ball is crossed into the box and you get bodies in there, there is always a chance. But right now we are passing it around without really forcing the issue.

Not a expert here but just my personal opinion.

Singaporean red,
CK

Totally agree. Too much faffing around and rehearsed passing sideways and backwards....to be honest not even attractive football.....just frustrating!

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH !

Totally agree with CK. Under KD the passing was direct and fast and we created pads of chances - just not the quality in the box to finish. Now the pace is too slow. This does not suit the English game and is why Gerrard is not looking at his best. He plays one-touch passes and makes breaking runs. This style does not allow him to do that.
If you look at Swansea now with lots of the same players but under a different manager, they are creating more and winning more as they are playing a more direct game.
The passing game is right, but it's about passing forward not sideways - which is why Allen is out of his depth.
G

Hi all,

I would not put the blame solely down to rodgers. At the end of last season we are already slowing down. I do not know why but the players do not seem confident enough. They are afraid of making mistakes, choosing the simple way out most of the time. Instead, they should be more adventurous, get forward and trust that their teammates will cover for them.

It is frustrating to see that they do not dare to take chances and go forward, yet when the opponent gets the ball, we are hit on the break easily.

But for me the most important thing is the intensity. We score our first goal after 75min against west ham a couple of weeks ago. When we are chasing the game or chasing the winner, most of the time we do not look like scoring. We are simply too slow. We need to play faster, force the issue and get the crowd excited, get them roaring right behind us, especially at Anfield. Although I do not have the privilege to watch live at Anfield, but I can definitely sense through the TV that the crowd is getting softer slowly but surely.

Singaporean red,
CK

22 Dec 2012 08:20:11
Eds do u think that if we get sturridge,ince and jeffren, are we still going to add more players to the squad. If so , how many more {Ed002's Note - I would not expect there to be that many more in the January window.}

22 Dec 2012 08:12:41
I believe the Daniel Sturridge deal will be another transfer gaff. Don't think he is clinical enough and why would we want to pay 12m for a player who can't even hold down a regular place in the first team. I would prefer us to have a look at Jordan Rhodes and Charlie Austin both proven goal scorers.

My word, do people actually wake up at this time of the morning just to complain about how crap a player is going to be for us before he has even joined.

Blah, blah, blah. Broken record. I'm going food shopping, at least I may get a smile off and decent conversation off one of the checkout ladies.

Tristan

Agreed mate, over the constant slating, sturridge hasnt even signed... might not even sign? Gopd luck at the registers u might get lucky

Aussiepool tristan

U got a prediction for todays game? Ive got 20 on liberpool 3-2

22 Dec 2012 05:53:14
My only concern with Sturridge is the price we pay. If the reported £15m is true then I think we could get much better value for money on the continent. Spain for instance is struggling financially & have many bargains to be had. Llorente, Soldado, Negredo, Calleron to name but a few.

Gav the Red

...Gav, you can't just kidnap these players. They have to wan't to come to Liverpool!?

dd

DD, you've just created a new transfer policy. Forget scouting etc, just kidnap them

G

22 Dec 2012 03:09:16
All right, so here's a thought.

Many regard BR as some sort of messiah (can do 'no' wrong) yet you question his proposed signings.

So which is it, full support for BR or only partial.
Can't have it both ways.

Different fans have different opinions on players. The same fans have differing opinions on BR - Not understanding your bizarre generalisation at all?

dd

22 Dec 2012 03:08:05
Would prefer Ba over Sturridge?

Any chance Ricky Van Wolfswinkel?

Or Ryad Bodebouz? Sochaux are in disarray and this young man is a class act.

Don't get the negativity, Sturridge is a young goal scorer who hasn't been given a chance at Chelsea, got to be a good thing if we get him surely. He did very well for Bolton when he started regularly. At the time I wanted him to be part of the Torres deal. YNWA

I agree,not only do i think he's a decent player,i think £12 million or so would be good business.
Even if he didn't play that well,i would imagine being able to recoup £6-£8 million.
We will lose roughly £12 million on Downing,roughly £17 million on Carroll,not to mention us buying Keane then selling him back for a fraction of the cost.
These were all risky transfers than backfired and cost us big time,but i really dont see Sturridge as much of a gamble.
Our striker problems are unlikley to be solved in January,but i will settle for steady improvement,and i do see Sturridge as an improvement.

Liverpool is a big football club with a lot of players.

Naturally, you will like some players more than others due to an array of different things.

Not everyone will like Sturridge (if/when he joins us) but he is yet to wear the shirt and yet to kick a ball for Liverpool.

I think it would be fairer to him if we laid off him a little until he pulls on a shirt and kicks a ball.

Who knows, he may surprise some of you and be a fans favourite in time, just like Lucas.

It would be nice to see the glass as half full in everything we do as supporters and take that to the stands so it can rub off on our team and have a positive effect.

Levans.

Rodgers said in the recent interview (over 1 hour of speaking to liverpool supporters press) that he wants wide forwards that are capable cutting in and scoring goals / supporting the main striker.

He also said that he wants the main central striker to be mobile but to have a natural desire to drive in between the penatly spot and 6 yard box and really want to score goals. He said it doesn't matter if they are tall or short they just need to be mobile and able to spin with the ball and make room to shoot.

Ince fits the bill for the wide role... Rodgers then said that the club are also looking at possibly getting in an experienced striker on loan - that can provide goals in the central striker profile aforementioned...David Villa immeadiatley springs to mind as he would be perfect as the main striker. His positioning and ability to spin and finish is superb.

Finally he was asked "why dont we sign a no. 10 to create the clear chances etc, as it looks like the team could really do with one..." Rodgers replied: I agree with you 150% this is what we will look at in the summer window when the quality is available and we can buy a top top no.10 to enrich the team..but for this window we need goal scorers first and foremost.

I wonder if that No.10 is Mr. Erikksen?

Cheers JK

We have already got Shelvey, Suso, Adorjan to paly the No.10 role

Yes but watch the video... Rodgers said he "150%" wants a top top no.10 for the now, someone with experience that can a consistent threat. Cheers JK

Suso in time could be a great #10, but seriously Shelvey? The guy is a battering ram, #10's are lock-pickers!

Hope Suso sends him a nice message.

The only question i will be asking about Sturridge? Is he good enough to push Liverpool into the top 4? Thats all that matters. If he comes and scores goals then job done. Im not bothered where the players come from or if they come with a name that is hard to say. Stick a top on, get on the pitch and score goals, put Liverpool where they should be and less of this nonsense about players bedding in, new systems and whatever other tripe posters come up as excuses for poor performances.

The Irish Rover

Look at it in this context Rover :
Is Sturridge better than Carroll - check.
Kuyt - quicker and will be, check.
Ngog - check.
Crouchy - I liked the big man but my grandma is more mobile and she's been dead nearly ten years, so check.
Babel - check.
Baros - check.
El Zhar - check.
Le Tallec - check.
Meijer - check.
Mellor - check.
Morientes - had swam his race, so check.
Voronin - double check.

Get the pattern mate ? Sturridge would be a very capable signing. Quick, strong, and what's often under-estimated, he's confident. Yes to the point of being selfish at times. But that's better than not having a go ala the quiet man Stewart Downing.
He's ready to step up to the plate and I think with Suarez' trickery and footballing brain, they can be a right handful together. I hope the business is done pronto, and we've got him for City away.
The Juicer

I've great respect for your opinion Irish Rover.
But I have to disagree on this viewpoint you've been lured into.
At the moment we have to buy within our budget but we can still stand tall by buying players who fit our criteria.
Our ethos.
Personally, I think a player's background is everything. We don't have a bad squad in that respect.........Kenny Dalglish and Steve Clarke carried on from Rafa's philosophy. Brendan has added his own ethos. We need to look into player's backgrounds and make more structured assessments about their chances on Merseyside.
PADDOCKPETE

No one we could afford to sign could get us into the top 4 mate.

We can afford good players - we just have the pick the right ones and hope they flourish. Man Utd are top with Welbeck & Hernandez being half their strike force. They didn't break the bank for them did they? They paid for RVP and Rooney but guess what - they cost less combined than Carroll & Suarez proving its what you do with the money.

Maybe not on his own Irish Rover,but i firmly believe that if we had a few more forward players of his quality,we would be a lot closer and more consistent.

Suarez doesn't really have much pace per-say and for all Sterlings pace we don't see him running in behind the back 4 much.

Maybe the arrival of a pacy forward would force teams to sit deeper against us,as well as Sterling learning how to cut inside more effectively. (I say that because i think that is one of the strengths of Sturridge's game,cutting inside to good effect).

For sure he needs to improve,but he does have the raw ingredients.

A couple of question's for the Ed's.

Firstly, whilst gerrard has been our driving force for years, winning FA cups, last gasp goal v olympiacos etc etc, does he deserve a place in the team on current form?

I found his play frustrating at times. Whilst Allen & sterling may b rested is it not time BR contemplated the same for gerrard?

I feel we r missing someone with guile in midfield. With sahin back & hendo playing himself into a bit of form would it be unthinkable to play Lucas, hendo & sahin in a midfield 3?

Secondly, whilst agger & skrtel are our 1st choice CB's, in cup games why does Coates rarely get a chance? Carra seems to get the nod ahead of him, I understand we can't play too many young uns, but the lad is an international for a top team. Cheers

Ps great news raheem signed to us long term, the lad deserves his contract he just needs to bring more goals to his game at EPL level, I'm sure he will continue to develop.

Jimbob {Ed001's Note - the issue is that we don't have much in the way of options to replace him, so no he doesn't, but we have little choice. Unless Henderson, Shelvey and Sahin step up and take a game by the scruff of the neck, they are going to have to be patient.
Carra gets the nod because he is an experienced head to talk the kids through a match.}
