Please tell me I'm not the only one who doesn't rate Benzema at all. This is a player who will almost certainly leave for > £30mil, who has managed to break the 20 goal barrier once in his real madrid career. I'm sure it's just classic lazy journalism on the part of the metro, but if not: What the hell are we playing at?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You're not the only one who doesn't rate Benzema at all.

Ken

Agree0 Disagree0

He is awful, any links to him are just that pro Madrid press trying to make a story when there isn't one.

Agree0 Disagree0

Beats me as well. But got to trust BR. If someone who's not performing to their potential, BR's the boss!

Agree0 Disagree0

At one point he had lots of potential however he has never become the player he could've become.

4th place nailed on now. I just booked tickets for the Liverpool v Olympicos game in Chicago. In the small print it states that the game could be cancelled in the event Liverpool are involved in Champions League Qualifiers. There you have it everyone, 4th place guarenteed now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No Spurs are still very much in the hunt.

Hello Eds, I have a question for you guys, although I think Ed001 may be best placed to answer this.

I was looking at an article which compared Rafa and Rodgers after 64 games and it got me thinking, those managers are of a total difference to each other and given that I'm only 24 and I don't have the memory of the Roy Evans era, I was just wondering if there are any parallels between Evans and Rodgers.

The reason I ask is because what I've read and partially seen myself, is that Roy Evans just attacked and didn't utilize his defence(maybe that's worded wrong?) It seems as though Rodgers is pretty much doing the same thing, as we're conceding lots of goals but scoring almost double.

Do you see any similarities between the two managers style and tactics? I'm not talking about man management, as for some reason I get the feeling that Evans was far too laid back and just let them get on with it, so to speak.

Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - not at all, Evans did no such thing and nor does Rodgers. Evans sent out his team to outplay the opposition, and they did that almost without fail, they just lacked investment in the team to buy the defenders he wanted. Rodgers has been able to use his money for defenders, but been unable to field them for long periods of the season. I don't think you can really judge his defence right now, not until Sakho is settled in properly. The only similarity I can really see is a propensity for both teams to make silly errors leading to goals being conceded. Actually I can think of one major similarity, both are limited by owners as to the signings they can make, though in different ways. Evans had Moores' meddling in team affairs and undermining him constantly in every way though, whereas Rodgers just has to struggle within our financial constraints. Rather than an owner who was a *censored* and didn't want to do anything other than take from the club, like Evans had to deal with.}

Good read. Was moores that bad? was he just in it for himself?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Moores was the reason why we are so far behind the rest of the world. We could have had the stadium issue sorted, we could have challenged for trophies, but it would have meant him having to stop taking out of the club and even risk putting a mill or two of his own in. Though he could have done this in the form of a loan, he was never going to do it. The man was a complete and utter arse, being nice. Refused Evans money to buy a defender, then bought Collymore for far more money. Would meddle in disciplinary matters, leading to the club ending up with the Spice Boy tag, because Evans was unable to clamp down on them as Moores would just go behind his back. Then sold us to two cowboys with no money, purely because it meant an extra £6m in his back pocket, when he would have received £80m anyway! One of the issues which caused problems was his insistence on the club paying for all his travel expenses, not just while he was chairman, but as part of the contract when he sold the club.}

I thought Roy Evans did a great job of turning Liverpool around after Graham Souness pushed the self destruct button and brought an end to the Liverpool dominance of English football.
I think (not100% are) Roy got the club back to top 3 again if not it was top for sure4

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed is spot on about moores and his mate parry. imo selling us to two cowboys is their fault and remember we were 2 hrs from going into admin at the end of that, I for one would never have anything to do with them again, I won't say what I mean by that as my post won't get posted but thank god they are gone

Agree0 Disagree0

Footballing-wise Roy Evans was ahead of his time. He did it by expanding on the Liverpool mantra of "pass and move". He played the possession game which everyone loves these days.

The perceived defence problem was exaggerated in my opinion. The problem Roy had was that he lacked discipline in the dressing room. The era was changing in football, agents came in, players started earning millions. I disagreed with Houllier coming in as a job share. It undermined Roy. Roy Evans never finished outside of the top 4.

Report on 2 of our on-loan players:

Jack Robinson was sent-off for felling substitute Jordon Ibe.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Isn't that his third red card this season?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ibe had turned the central defenders and was away. Robbo put in a rash lunge but if he hadn't, he was never going to catch Ibe. He gambled and failed.
It wasn't a red card tackle, he was just the last man, so went for that reason.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed003's Note - You can't be sent off for being the last man, committing a foul it has to be a foul that stops an obvious goal scoring chance and Ibe wasn't even going to get to the ball as it was in the keepers hands you are right though shouldn't have been a red card however robbo's decision making is not very good.}

Has anyone else noticed that there aren't many controversial handball decisions these days compared to the last few years?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I haven't noticed this, but I have noticed that United don't always get the 50/50 decisions any more. ^_^

Hey eds, reds, and closet reds (dg), Watching the arsenal game made me think of how every transfer window we have fans demanding a big money signing. I was just thinking, there have been several 30 million plus signings the past few years and none of them really that impressive. Just wondering if you thought anyone, in any European league for that matter, has lived up to their pricetag? Ozil, for example, to me has not. Bale, well, who could live up to that tag. Just some banter. Thanks in advance. Only kidding by the way DG

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ronaldo, Figo, zidanne, aguero, hazard, Torres (to us). But yeah few and far between where someone has actually lived up to the massive hype.
Everyone always says the team with the biggest budget is the most successful I would argue the team that finds the bargains is. It's just the teams with the biggest budgets can often afford to take the risks.

Agree0 Disagree0

In the Premier League in recent years, I think the only players that have justified their price tag are Aguero, Suarez, Oscar and Hazard.

Last season I would have said RVP, but he's not exactly setting the world on fire at the minute.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You don't think Sturridge has then?}

Oh no doubt Sturridge has, he's exceeded his. I was making the point that most of these 30 million plus signings haven't done a thing. Look what we pay for Suarez and Sturridge together. Roughly 37 million. They've scored more goals than that this season alone.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think hsf is talking about players that initially cost north of £20 million

Agree0 Disagree0

Sturridge was a bargain. I was actually surprised at how cheap Liverpool got him for, as everyone new all he needed was to be played in his best position & play under a manager who would have belief in his ability. His price tag weren't anything as high as the players mentioned above.

i read a manc laughing how they got mata and van persie for almost the same as we paid for caroll and downing I know that's sad on us but its easier to get players to sign when your at the top and we could talk all day about players values and who got the best deals and who didn't but take tomorrows opponents bony cost the same as sturridge its just grazy how chelsea let him go without even giving him a run in the centre at a time when their forwards couldn't hit a barn door, big thanks to chelsea 50m for torres and the best english striker at the moment for 12m.

Agree0 Disagree0

TjRed,

I'm insulted, lol (only joking mate)

PS, I think Ozil will be firing on all cylinders next season mate.

We still need one or two more very good players to take us to another level and I think if Rambo and Walcott weren't injured Ozil's assist record would be a lot better.

Ed02, I was putting forward the big purchases, say £20 million or more. Obviously I'm going by reported transfer fee's and not facts.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey dg,

I think Ozil is a top player, and he will come "good", but won't ever be great. I just feel like if someone were worth 45 million there would be more than talent about them. As controversial as Suarez has been, his tenacity and will to win can't be questioned. That's what makes him worth that kind of money to me. Not god given talent alone; Ozil just doesn't wanna work hard from what I've seen.

Hi all, I have tickets for Liverpool v Sunderland game and was wondering would anyone have any ideas as to when the match may be played? I'm from Ireland and am eager to get my flights booked, book time off work etc. Thanks in advance.

Watching the Chelsea v Everton game, before the second half starts the camera glanced at Salah on Chelsea bench. Poor guy, looked like a school boy on his first day at a new school.

Must get 3 points tomorrow. YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It was him that said he wanted to move to a club like Chelsea or Barcelona etc and he should have known he was only going to be benchwarmer. The rest is on him

Agree0 Disagree0

We'll have a whip round to get the poor lamb some tweezers to pick the splinters out of his arse. Let's make sure we give him a vocal Torres style welcome if he comes to Anfield lol!

Tomorrow our final push to the finish line and trying to get as high as possible in the table starts. Swansea are a good side, but This is Anfield. Ken Aguero, get those tight neon-green, polka-dot, leather lucky pants on mate. Everybody else, don't even change your pregame ritual slightly now, and let's continue this fun journey. YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I hope he didn't ruin them on his date last week

Agree0 Disagree0

I should probably find something lucky to wear too.

They're black and very tight fitting. They have a red elastic waistband and red piping over the relevant areas.
They are safely tucked up in my drawer ready for tomorrow's match.

Who do you guys want to win the Chelsea vs Everton match? If Chelsea lose, we could end up a point behind them. On the other hand Everton losing will help basically make the race for fourth between us and Tottenham, providing we beat Swansea. We could be 11 points ahead of Everton.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't mind for any result draw would be my preferred, now is the time to not worry about other results other than our own if we can carry on playing as we are we will get top 4 at least.

Agree0 Disagree0

Draw as it is right now for me i'm not overly fussed either way as long as we take care of our games we will be fine but draw is best result all round for us

Agree0 Disagree0

Id have taken a draw, but that dirty cheating lot robbed the bitters with Ramires dive. And Mourinho had the nerve to remark about Saurez.
