Eds, you guys seem to have the inside track that Saints would bid for Coutinho and I think this has been confirmed somewhere.

In your honest opinion, having some close contacts in the game and I'm guessing have been in this circle for a good few years.

What are the thoughs of LFC losing targets to Southampton, Spurs and other teams, which to be honest, in the European football world are lesser sides. Not just losing out but losing out by maybe £1m or £2m

I just would be interested if this has any impact of the reputation and stature amongst people who work in the industry? What does it say, amongst your contacts that Saints have signed two or maybe three players LFC were seriously linked with and bid on?

I'm not knocking LFC or FSG or BR, I'm also going by what I read as a fan, average joe with no contacts in the game, I guess some links are untrue. But Coutinho, Dempsey, Forren I'm sure LFC bid on or had strong contact. Players like Holtby, Zaha, Sissoko, Remy and Yanga-Mbiwa were very strongly linked with LFC and all have been good prices this window compared to previous and I'm not listing £20mil fees or £100k+ wages.

Genuine questions, genuine fan and genuine concerns {Ed002's Note - Southampton has significant leverage with the player as, obviously, he has played for their manager before. Somethimes the word doesn't revolve around Liverpool. It is not so much as losing targets but bidding openly against other clubs. It happens all of the time. Liverpool fans may have "strongly linked" the likes of Remy etc., but taking that one example Liverpool never spoke to Marseille about the player at all.}

Gylfi had played under BR before and still chose against coming to us. Lets hope coutinho does the same to the saints new manager.

We are good enough for what we have left of the season. I know we need a few additions to the squuad....but borini back and d s signed we just need to keep balanced.

No kidding, Why does Ed02 get so defensive everytime we are linked with a player.. chill out {Ed002's Note - Would you prefer I don't tell you what I know and just jolly you along with - Wesley Sneijder will be signing, Cavani is in talks with Liverpool, the press is right about Coutinho arriving at Anfield, Eden Hazzard is at Melwood?}

Well said Ed. I will own up to be a Saints supporter and I do not know if our interest in Coutinho is genuine or just from the press (Saints are very secretive about any possible transfers). But I will say this. If Saints have a real interest in Coutinho and knowing the new manager was coming (weeks ago), and Cortese's connections with Italian clubs discussions will have been going on for a very long time and will now be close to completion. But, equally, this could be a smokescreen and we are after someone else! If it is Coutinho, we should all know very soon because Saints are in Barcelona training this week and logic would argue they would want new players to get involved with that. {Ed002's Note - Southampton's interest in Coutinho is genuine and one bid has already been rejected by Inter. I would expect a second bid today and it is suggested that 13.5M euros might be a number bandied about a little later. This is far above the higher of the two bids from Liverpool, so the they would need to do something quite significant in terms of making what I would suspect be a final bid from Merseyside. The option of Belhanda was opened up again last night and with Guarin playing well that could possibly end speculation about Paulinho.}

Eds I read these rumours and I pity u. Do you get paid 4 this

22 Jan 2013 23:39:04
Question to any of the Ed's! With Stevie G and Buck coming out last week saying we need experience from old head's! That FSG need to re-think their transfer policy! Everyone thought that a bid for Sneijder was imminent! Then we get these quote's that Jamie Carragher may not end his career at Anfield! Do you think FSG are trying to get Jamie off the book''s? {Ed002's Note - Only so he can make a triumphant return at the fans behest in 2019 (with Alonso).}

That did'nt really answer my question Ed002! With all the noise's coming from teammate's and staff with Jamie coming out and saying he may have to leave to get game time do you think he's being pushed out by FSG to get him off the book's? As Buck say's he's still got a lot to offer and included him in the side against Norwich watched by Tom Werner! Do'es seem that he is being pushed not by Buck by FSG! {Ed002's Note - FSG will not be pushing Carragher out. He is getting older and the team has to move on.}

Remember Sami Hyppia? Sometimes, players just get too old for the highest level. It's Jamie's time now, or his time is coming real soon, either way he is much closer to retirent than his best days.

Hmm, the Guardian recently took down the Coutinho article, however it has been re-uploaded, unaware if there have been any changes, but the main story is the same saying Liverpool are confident of price agreed on Wednesday, and now the Mirror are stating the same. The player is keen on the move, despite what he has said in the media and the media state that;
"Liverpool are relaxed about Coutinho's claims in the Italian media that he wants to stay at the San Siro."

Hmm...We'll see what happens.

Just a note to ed 002 I posted on here 2 months ago asking bout coutinho what was his situation did Liverpool have any interest you told me none whatsoever he would stay at inter what wouldu says changed! Thanx {Ed002's Note - Well Liverpool now has an interest but he may still stay at Inter or may move to Southampton or Liverpool. Things change all of the time. Bayern Munich had no interest in Suarez two months ago, but they do now. Chelsea had not interest in Ba, but have no signed him.}

22 Jan 2013 22:28:52
in the remainder of this window, I just pray we sign coutinho, and not ince. blackpool are evidently total b*st*rds to deal with, they did exactly the same thing with charlie adam, and quite frankly I don't rate ince, and evidently no-one at liverpool rated him very highly when they let him go.
while I think coutinho is an abdolute must. he would work well with suarez and sturridge and would definitely add goals and creativity while still possesing the young, re-sale value etc that seem to be required of all our signings. having paid £20 million each for horrendous henderson, pass-back allen, and does-nothing downing, surely we can up the offer for coutinho by a couple of million as he is much more promising than any of the aforementioned three.
any surprise transfers that might pop up over the next week eds?
RyanTheRed

I agree Ince would've been kept if he was that good or whoever let him go must face the axe!
Henderson and Downing are coming along, mate. We've given them so much time, a little more would'nt make any difference, who knows!
Coutinho would be a good signing...if we get him!!

You haven't watched many, sorry any LFC matches lately.

I agree with your thoughts on Ince, I went to BPL vrs Fulham FA Cup replay last week and in my opinion he was out of his depth. He did show some good skills but they were few and far between and certainy not worth 5 million.

Don't think either are great upgrades on what we have tbh, ince is a no for me as think we will be swarmed with Sterling/Ibe etc in a few years.

Horrendous Henderson- He is 22 and a very solid player who is starting to really up his game, was/is captain of Englands U-21's, he has a lot of potential.

Pass-back Allen- Give him a break he isn't having the greatest season's but is young again and is fantastic at keeping the ball moving, still settling in would be my opinion as it's a big jump from helping a club in it's first year in the prem to one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Does-nothing downing has been playing decently lately and hopefully BR's words about his commitment has given him a kick up the ass, and now we are seeing the results.

Coutinho is nowhere close to as good as people are making him out to be, he could become a star but hasn't done much with his massive talent when he moved from Brazil, if it's on the cheap grand worth the risk maybe

Ska-oop

Henderson horrendus? Are you sure?
Allen did not cost £20 million.

23 Jan 2013 07:16:21
allen cost 15mil+ 3mil singing on fee...equals to 18 mill

22 Jan 2013 22:26:58

Hi not a rumour but just an opinion I am a life long Liverpool fan but I am also based in South Wales I think most people will agree that BR is starting to make his mark I think people need to wait until after the summer to start judging BR and also FSG as I think by the start of may end of April we will be in touching distance of the top 4 also I think Louis will stay and I expect some great signing in the summer I think we will be pleasantly surprised during the Summer as to the amount of quality proven talent we bring in BR has the potential to be a great manager I know some of the Swansea boys and they think very highly of him. Ed I know you keep saying you think ince deal can still be done also a loan deal still in the pipe line do you know of any thing else we are working on ? If these deals do not go through ?? I think FSG are keeping they're powder dry at the moment until the summer when they will back BR all the way they are winners proven record in past ventures ! Keep the faith not as hard up as people think ( also I know Brendan Rodgers quiet well as drive the Swansea team and the rumours coming from the boy Allen all point to major investment in the summer !! Hi Eds Any Chance Of The Following Players, Seem To Have Decent Records, Youth And Look To Be Hidden Gems. Anyway I'm Probably Just Hoping That Mr Ian Ayre Occasionally Checks This Site And Asks For Help From The Eds, So Mr Ayre If You Are Reading This, Listen To What One Of Liverpool's Biggest Legends Is Saying" BUY EXPERIENCE".
Anyway, Please Eds Any Thoughts About The Following?
1.Jaime Ayoví
2.James Rodríguez
3.Wilfred Bony
4.Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu
5.Sofiane Feghouli

Thanks, LFC_PAK {Ed002's Note - Try the search function please.}

Hidden?! Every club in Europe wants James Rodriguez and every football fan worth his salt knows all about Feghouli and Bony.

Here's one for a bit of banter lads.... Who were two worst player who played for us.....?

For me - and I'm going back a bit...

Jean Michel Ferri & Frode Kippe .... Oh and I have to say Paul Konchesky ....oh my lord, what dross !!

M

Ivan Kozma & Voronin

Poulson was much worse than konchesky in my opinion, I only ever watched him at liverpool but I honestly don't know how he ever became a professional footballer!

Ashy

Torben Piechnik, Sean Dundee, Eric Meijer, Istvan Kozma got to make most people's short list. However on the plus side at least Souness was in charge of another team when he fell for the Ali Dia (George Weah's ahem cousin) signing.

ChrisE

Paul Dicks and David Speedie

Torben Piechnick by a mile, followed by Charles Itandje.

what about itsvan kozma, bjorn tor kvarme and josemi. jir63.

Try Trevor Storton and Davy Rylands lad back in Jan 74 when we played Doncaster at home in the 3rd round of the cup at home. We were champions and they were bottom of the 4th division and led twice before it ended 2-2. Those two ginks were our centre backs that day and were run ragged.

We went on to win the cup that year but the performance of those two still gives me the heeby geebies.

I worked with Ryland's sister at the time and no one spoke to her for two weeks after that.

I am surprised Joe Allen, Lucas, Jordan Henderson or any other player that gets slagged off so often hasn't been mentioned. The reality is that these players are not bad players and as soon as people realise that they are only out of form the better for everybody. The worst player to play for Liverpool in my opinion is El Hadji Diouf, nothing to do with fee which we paid but that he is the worst thing to happen to us ever. He was more controversial than Luis Suarez but had no redeeming factors.
Scouse_Pride

Easy one! - istvan kozma and torben piechnik...

YNWA JFT96

Antonio nunez was absolutely awful from what I can remember

Any player Grahame souness signed!

Torben Piechnik, Bjorn Tore Kvarme, Bernard Diomede

Jovanovic what a flop lol

GAM#

I'd have to agree with El Hadji Diouf, for lots of reasons.

Kozma LOL he was awful

Never liked Dicks

Sean Dundee and Ferri were pointless

Mark Kennedy, Harry Kewell and Joe Cole were also massive let downs compared to the reputation

I like Andy Carroll, really wanted him to do well but with the £35mil fee he has to be near the top

Sean Dundee and Jimmy Carter .....

Oh man!!

23 Jan 2013 00:16:21
Paul Stewart and Neil Ruddock......!

It was Istvan Kozma and Julian Dicks!

I was at that Doncaster game. We very nearly blew it that night. Under the bar with that shot and we were out if the cup. That was an early flirtation with rotation. No wonder it didn't catch on for decades!

ND

Nunez, Kronkamp and Konchesky for me. Can't remember a decent 30 seconds of football played between them

Ignore what coutinho has said in the press, he is very interested in coming. Sticking point is the transfer fee, inter do not want to sell and have set a high transfer fee because of this. We seem unwilling to meet it. A senior player at inter recently said phillipe would love to join us as he doesn't think he will get any game time this year or next. A coach at inter has privately agreed with this.

I'm now 80 percent sure the coutinho deal will not be completed.

Nevada

That's some contradiction to make in 7 minutes! {Ed002's Note - There is no contradiction here at all.}

I didn't contradict myself, I stated coutinho wanted to come and that I was 80 percent sure that it wouldn't happen due to the fee. All true with no contradiction

22 Jan 2013 21:46:03
whats the deal with assaidi he is a better player than downing by far and isn't even had a sniff of the ball. he really needs a good run otherwise another 2 mil wasted. same thing happened with sahin and that kid is a beast of a player shame really. this play british players rule is messing up the flux of the squad. joe allen over sahin seriously??

Downing has proven a lot of people wrong recently. His form is improving dramatically and he offers more than Assaidi. Sahin was poor for us, where as Allen has been decidedly average. Allen was top class at the start of the season but has dropped off a lot recently. Still, him and Henderson offer more than Sahin did.
There is no British rule.
Rodgers has brought in Allen, Borini, Assaidi, Sahin and Sturridge. 2/5 are British.
Think before you post.

1. how do you know he is better than downing do you watch them train every week like BR ?
2. why would downing, who is in good form, be dropped for a player over in south africa ?
3. what evidence is there that british players get proirity, around 7 of our full strength starting 11 is foreign.
4. sahin didn't do anything that suggested to me that he was as good as the hype and reputation he carried suggested.
derryred

There is no deal with him. The manager obviously prefers Downing

When he first arrived, he wasn't fit, he was also Fasting, we also knew we where going to lose him to the ACON?
So obviously whatever way you look at it his initial period with the club was going to be "Stop start!" There's a bit more to this management game than meets the eye.

22 Jan 2013 23:21:43
Well said, getting a bit bored of reading moronic outbursts about OUR players just because they have an average game or make a bad pass, get behind the team and look at the bigger picture we are playing some fantasic football and the squad is young and will grow together.

When Sahin went off against Udinese with his broken nose he was told by the physios he could carry on playing but chose not to coz he wanted his nose looking at because he was more worried about his looks - true story.
Where Borini carried on playing for weeks with broken bones in his foot.

Assaidi will get his chance after the ACON.

LFC have put another bid in for Inter's Countinho, around 8 mil. Very happy if we get him, we've been missing a flair player, Suarez can't do everything. YNWA Peter M

22 Jan 2013 21:00:06
yeah just seen a post below, what's the story with assaidi? He has barely played at all and when he has he looked quite good. I understand he is with Morocco at the moment but surely he had got his fitness up by then to play for us? its an odd one, seen as Brendan bought him and are squad is very thin.

Danny

22 Jan 2013 21:13:43
I think we'll see a bit of him when he gets back.

Ed's keep me honest here - I think he was missing for the last 5-6 weeks cause he broke his nose then got injured, recovering in time for ACON
Digger {Ed001's Note - it was Sahin that had a broken nose, Assaidi was injured though for a while as well.}

He comes here, trains half a year, settels in, learns the team play and mates, goes to africa and have a very good warm up to match speed, gets back, hits the ground running.

No one knows what hit em.

The Rob

22 Jan 2013 20:59:41
Coutinho has potential, but everyone needs to calm down, the club isn't going to live or die whether he signs or not.

Whilst he has potential, that potential & development has flatlined at inter. Looking into Lfc & the development of suso, sterling, kelly, wisdom If I was coutinho I would buy my own fare to melwood.

However, if he does sign don't expect him to have the same impact as sturridge, be prepared he might be
a slow burner like Lucas or hendo.

Jimbob

His name ends in "inho" though mate, so he must be world class and better than any British player we put out on the pitch.

Coutinho must be good he has 92 dribbling on fifa haha

Higher than suarez loooool

22 Jan 2013 20:47:30
Is it not possible to buy Tom Ince and then loan him back to Blackpool so he gets first team appearances till the end of the season? Blackpool can't complain about that really they still get to keep him till end of this season & works well for Ince so he gets first team football.

If Coutinho goes to Southampton above us, 3 letters spring to mind-ffs! {Ed019's Note - He has already worked with their manager, but that shouldn't stop him joining us if we agree a fee}

Be better if he went to Saints first, gets 4-5 months 1st team football with them then when they get relegated we buy him and Ramirez for 10m all together. Loooool

Irish Redman

Like your thinking Redman !! Uglygeordiegenius

23 Jan 2013 07:21:38
who said saints are going to get relegated?
no chance..i saw them playing against everton and chelsea...
they were actually better than us..
i haven't seen any club playing everton better than them whole season..
gaston ramirez is showing what he actually is...

If he was at saints for 4-5 months scores 15 goals he would cost 20 mil + and will end up at man city or chelsea, so our best chnace is to get him now!

22 Jan 2013 20:20:50
Eds fellow reds, just like to make a quick point, since BR has been at liverpool can any of the fans say he's bought a poor Player ? I don't think he has bought any poor players so let see who else he gets in this window .might not be the big name but starting to get them playing .if we get 1 more and they have the same impact as Danny sturridge we will be just fine

Not poor players

but sahin allen assaidi have jardly been value for money thus far

note the thus far

tom1975

Borini so far has been very disappointing and certainly not worth the money we paid. I know he's been injured but before that he's been poor!

People seem to forget that while borini may have been poor before his injury. He was also playing in a side that was also poor at that time. If DS had been playing then, he may well have been poor as well. As the players adapt to the system they tend to improve each other. His graft will, at the very least, create space for others.

Arco90

23 Jan 2013 09:32:17
nonsense..whoever we signed and underperformed...we have a reason..injury, out of form, blah blah blah..
if he would have been at any other clubs..by end of the season..he would be playing in champiosnhip..
cant believe...we identified Borini as the striker to get us in to Top4??

22 Jan 2013 20:20:31
What is it with Newcastle and signing players from the French league?? are the winter sales still on?

marc

They ve got aload of frenchies already, good value in france ovbiously

They are in a relegation battle so i'd hardly say the french lads are world beaters . There may be a reason others haven't come in for all these players. They're not that good.

We once could sing about we had the best midfield in the world, we had xabi alonso, momo sissoko, Gerrard and mascerano, why can't we attract great players anymore! I miss them days

I wouldn't of said Sissoko was "world Class"

Lyndon

I liked momo sissoko thought he was a good player . But we have lucus now and don't think I would change him . He is class .
YNWA
Jamesy

I think you'll find that all 4 of those players *became* star players whilst playing for us. Stevie thru the academy, we salvaged Mascher from the west ham reserves, Alonso was bought at aged 22 and became a legend playing for us (with one absolutely awful season mixed in there), and Momo was unknown.

Which is why I scratch my head when people whine about Allen, Henderson, Shelvey, et all whilst they are young and developing. Same with Lucas who got absolutely slated by suppositly knowledgable fans until suddenly he's undroppable.

SpudRed

But he was better than joe Allen for sure

And I remember when liverpool fans were once known as knowledgeable.

Until sissoko got that eye injury he was brilliant, after that he just didn't seem the same. shame really.

Don't forget Didi Hamann!

Dont forget Danny murphy I think he was massively underrated watching him on Liverpool tv the other day and forgot how he was

Eds what happened with Liverpool attracting the top stars anymore, ie alonso Torres, mascerano, we just seem to be looking at youngsters who we hope with experience will become good players, ? {Ed052's Note - when we signed those players, they weren't big starts mate, but ghey had the ability to be}

Top stars want top money which we can't afford

Edo52, torress was a huge name well before liverpool signed him, was looked at as the next raul... madrid captain starter 4 spain, stupid statement! agree on masch tho was a big name in argentina along with tevez but both had issues {Ed052's Note - you just say hewas looked at as th next Raul, showing he still had to imorove to be his best}

22 Jan 2013 19:36:15
Maybe we should go after Mateo Kovacic

22 Jan 2013 19:31:58
Hi eds, any chance we will look at hooper from Celtic?....
Proven scorer and quite a mountain of a player!
Think be great for price

Kj red lfc {Ed052's Note - we did look at him but interest has gone}

There is no doubt Hooper is a very good striker, they also have a young player called Watt, who looks another good young prospect, but I can't imagine them being good enough for Liverpool.

Why didn't we go for Sissoko, Newcastle getting him for 3 mil! He will be like Diame, highly under rated players in prem

I agree but he may not get enough chances to show himself at LFC as he would at Newcastle

22 Jan 2013 19:03:20
howdi fellow liverpool fans and ed's great site...ok was thinking about saurez and a lot off rumours saying he might leave because he deserves champions league football which is fair enough BUT if he did move to say juventus and they get 2 not so flashy teams in there group and say one top seed like say porto (which in respect are'nt a high flying european team) and then happen to not get through there group stage and then that means juventus and saurez are in the europa league! So ok been in the champions league is where the top players want to be BUT its very easy to get not so flashy games and get knocked out early so I don't really understand why everyone goes on about players wanting to be in a team that can offer champions league football.....liverpool is the biggest football club past and future and saurez is not stupid he knows how much liverpool fans love him and he wants to be apart off this rebuilding team we have at the moment so I for one am not worried about him leaving! great result at the weekend....im irish so don't get over often but was at the game and everything just jelled! YNWA

Chelsea, City?... Fair enough point.
kidmillions

Do you know anything about juventus and their history? the other issue is they will be competing for their league year in year out. unfortunately we will not

22 Jan 2013 20:05:42
Mate when you say liverpool is big club so do

Juventus, Ac milan Bayern Munich, Real, Barca etc at the sametime football player career is very short and Liverpool is no where near thise teams who can offer Suarez trophys and more money, liverpool are in big mess which will take them more then 5-8 years to compete in highest level with no Guarantee of Success, Suarez is in his peak and needs to play in highest level rather then waste his talent at Liverpool, don't forget his 25-26 has no time to wait for another 5-8 years

22 Jan 2013 20:36:47
Good job he's on a new improved contract then isn't it

22 Jan 2013 21:58:33
Just like Sneijders gone to Galatasary for champions league football. Shame that they're going to play two games then go out.

No player in the world would chose galatasaray over us, he went there for the money.
sneijder is such a good player I thought he would come to us. {Ed002's Note - Sneijder did not have the choice of moving to Liverpool. Liverpool made no offer to Inter for him.}

22 Jan 2013 18:57:00
we are trying to buy coutinho 22, ince 21 ...and we have already allen 22, henderson 22, borini 21, sterling 18, suso 20, shelvey 20, assaidi 23, sturridge 23 don't you think that we need more experienced players? I mean why not trying to buy players 25-28 years old..its important to have mature players

9 of our starting 11 are over the age of 25

Suso isn't 20

22 Jan 2013 19:41:08

22 Jan 2013 19:01:13
Eds do you actually rate Ince? I haven't been overly impressed by him or for that matter his attitude but would appreciate your expert opinion

daniellambretta {Ed052's Note - I dont rate him no. Hogs it, not the best skills or finishing ever. He is decent, but no improvement on out youngsters. But, if BR wants him, then that's good enough for me}

22 Jan 2013 19:01:07
BTW callejon of real madrid would be a great signing and his price tag is roughly10 milion...heart that we were interesting in summer and for the january transfer window...is there any possibility to buy him this month ?
thanks

He will be available in the summer.

22 Jan 2013 18:44:19
Who do you think is the most realistic signing we can complete in this window?

Daniel Sturridge!

22 Jan 2013 18:39:09
What is the situation with Danny Wilson? On loan to hearts, and tv say his contact runs out this year. What I have seen of him I thought he was the long term replacement for JC. Would be a shame to loose him on a free like Tom Ince.
Dinger

Danny Wilson is nowhere near good enough for Liverpool.

Too slow for a start. There's a reason why Kelly, Wisdom etc are so far ahead of him.

He is certainly not Carragher's long-term replacement.

He's very average mate, don't think we'd be disappointed if he left on a free.

Papa G

Unfortunately I don't believe he has the raw acceleration to play in a team like Lfc, and doesn't have Jc or Sami's god like positioning and reading of the game :(

Hey Eds BIG news! I am hearing we are VERY interested in Frank Lampard, Am hearing Snjider was a smoke screen and he has the experience Gerrard & Saurez was talking about! Rodgers was in London this weekend for Gerrards award and his sons court case while also taking care of business! Rodgers has worked with Frank before (Chelsea) and they both have a common understanding! This was the key topic of the board meeting that took place after the 5-0 win!

Cheers PDLFC

Dodgy rumours, please?

Might aswell knock the coutinho deal on the head if he isn't willing to come then so be it, focus attentions on a player that is willing to come for the right reasons.

who else are we being linked too?

ACHILLES.

Any chance of Marco Rojas eds? Apparently available for around 500k. Great site btw! {Ed019's Note - Not that we know of}

Good player made to look better by playing in an average league, I'm afraid

22 Jan 2013 18:10:37
Ed002 do you still think Coutinho will still sign?

With winning mentality, commitment and love of club.Really do hope Carra's Retained in Coaching role, or some capacity at the Club.Maybe as a Scout, his Player knowledge is apparently 2 nd to none

22 Jan 2013 18:05:29
I think that people have to understand that we will not be signing young prospects in Jan! The prices will be inflated higher than summer. Any signings will be ones that will strengthen the first 11 or possible build up the squad for the latter stages of europa and FA cup

22 Jan 2013 17:55:27
I get that Ince is a more realistic target, so the logical conclusion is that the Countinho saga is a direct result of us trying to get ince to sign.

Or am I complicating things?

We have bid for Coutinho, twice. Really. We have.
If the bid is accepted, how is that an effective smokescreen of any kind?

22 Jan 2013 17:51:22
I'm not saying Pep Guardiola is a bad manager but come on... I'll could go to Bayern and makes Suarez and Falcao my top targets and half a chance of winning something!

You're going to really struggle there Pep, feel for you mate...

I wish I could see manager's like Pep and Mourinho etc trying to get promotion with Wrexham! Let's see how you manage then - Wrexham are doing okay as well by the way!

Couldn't agree more with you un-named poster. I've always thought that if Pep did come to England he would flop hugely. I think his playing style just would not work in England like it did in Spain. English football is more end to end where as Spanish football is more sit back and relax. However I do still think Pep would be a great person with transfers but I just can't see him being the success he was at Barca.

Open to opinions

RedSpud

Guardiola is nothing special, he took over rijkaard team.
he bought zlatan 45mil, sanchez 30, and some russian defender for 30 mil.they had thier caroll problems.
puyol, alves, xavi, inesta, messi, valdes, pedro, abidal were all there when guardiola arrived.
a good coach makes a good team better and hold a grip on the dressingroom that's all.
guardiola left Because the pressure got to him and barca was winning what will happen to him when bayern lose.
I rather have BR moulding a team than a big name that found his team nearly ready

"You're really going to struggle there Pep..."

On the basis of what? His reign at Barca was near perfect and Bayern are the best team in Germany with the biggest squad depth and the most money to spend. Why the hate towards Guardiola?

P.S - there's a reason why the Wrexham manager isn't the manager of Bayern Munich or Barcelona. Ridiculous post.

Good post but wot just happen to the Southampton manager after back to back promotion s !! So sad that people in football get treated like that after doing a Great job if pep did that wow he must be a god, not a dig at you m8, just a dig at English football
Ynwa lfc linc

Look maybe guardiola is overhyped but we are liverpool fans and give credit where it is due. He is a very good coach, barca were a great team before but he took them to new heights, a bad manager doesn't manage one of the disputable best teams in the world.
derryred

Its ok saying pep fantastic coach will every 1 say the same of tito vilanova in 2 years if he steps down it could quite easily have been borrell who took over after rykard he's managing our juniors/reserves pep did well but with them players he should have his last season when he had to earn his money he came up short lost the league to jose

Hi eds I don't know what you anyone else thinks but it seems what is happening now is like what happened in the summer and that Sturridge is going to be our only signing in this window. This looks all to familiar hope I am wrong

eds and reds, there are loads of name's flying about but nothing nailed on as to who we could sign next.there is no new's coming from are club as to who we are trying to bring in at the min witch is great.no other club could jump in and push up the price for a player or player's we are looking at, i'm hoping we will hear some great news coming out of are lfc very soon that we have indeed signed a new player.in liverpool fc, rodger's, and fsg I trust.jay essex red for life red till dead as alway's walking on with hope.ps ed if you had to stick your neck on the line who would you think will be next to come in.cheer's ed

Why must people go on and on about our need for experienced players...?
It wasnt 12 months ago that the reverse was true...we needed young players, inventive players, quick players, players who can take people on. Now we have that, and it seems no one is happy.
Gerrard, Agger, Skrtle, Reina, Johnson, Enrique, Downing, Suarez, Henderson, Carragher, Kelly.....all players with 'high level experience'. And we have SOO many up and coming young players. Many of which have been given a break, and are now pushing 20-30 premier leage and european games experience. BR will not shell out millions and millions on foreign players upwards of 26 yrs old. It makes no sense.
I for one am DELIGHTED at our current form and position. If you had told me we would be six points from a CL spot, having played Suso, Stirling, Wisdom, Shelvey, Jones, Henderson, Downing for many, if not all of the games....I may well have chuckled at the prospect....

Relax. We are a developing team. And we are truely developing well.

A final note. How satisfying is it, and how proud does it make us, when, as a goal celebration insues, ALMOST every player running to congratulate the scorer, fist pumping and shouting with Liverpool honor......is BRITISH.

We may very well become the West Ham United of this generation. We may have a strong hand in the future of the national teams success.

This is just a guess but another reason I recon suarez will stay Is because his family is settled in Liverpool I'm guessing and as he is a family man I recon he would put his family first as long as we're right up there close to that 4th place. Obviously I don't know details but who wouldn't love to love in Liverpool ?!

I reckon the players would like to live in Liverpool also, well most would like to but...don't...

Are you Owen's agent?

2m for a bloke to sit on the bench and collect splinters or spend six months in the sick bay on £50k a week, are you Purslow in disguise? Seriously Owen's best days are gone, he treated the club and us as supporters like rubbish, so no, in a million years I don't want him anywhere near the club again, not fit to lace The good lord Fowlers boots.

Yeah he can pay us 2m to play for us.

Coutinho will probably go to Southampton and if he does I hope they get relegated! yes I am a bitter fan ....i just don't understand why we don't pay say the 10-12 million that I think Inter would take for him, Oh why are we so Crap when it comes to dealing with transfers? somebody ? anybody?

Thanks

Thatracoonstolemybacon

Maybe just maybe we 're n't so desperate for him, we do have a couple of players his age or slightly younger that can play in the same positions he can .. And before you talk about his quality, it will be fair to say Its hard to judge how good he is, when he has n't played much football in the last year or so ...

Roy

Because are club almost went backrupt... We had every experienced player on 80/100k a week mate! The owners are putting the club back in the map... If we take out loans to buy Cavani jovetic munian ect... In a few years we 'll be back in the same position... Champions league football brings money an I higher quality of signings without it were not Ina financial state to just drop 12m on coutinho who is a big risk he's not a top class experienced player 12m for him is a joke... If you don't understand this then your an person.

Rodgers is building a SQUAD with DEPTH and he's doing it the proper way so we'll be financially stable...

Cheers

BC

We probably could afford munian or jovetic.. Cavani definitely not..

Why is the talking process so long with liverpool before we find out if we get the player or not, surely its a simple one convo process.

Ian Ayre: We are interested in Coutihno will 6mill be ok?

Inter: No we want 10mil

Ian Ayre: Yes or no answer

Job done why all the messing about all the time, does my sweed in.

4 million may not be much to you but it is to the club after all the money that has been wasted over the last 2 years.

Haha 4million not much to us but a lot to those multi millionaires. Some of us can only dreaming of having just 1/4 of that in the bank.

22 Jan 2013 16:11:05
Whats the big deal about Coutinho? he's too small and light has done absoloutely nothing to justify any sort of transfer fee. A loan deal maybe but not a big transfer fee. He's a flop. FSG are obviously not listening to BR and Stevie G, we need a mix an experienced player to Join, Remember what a signing Gary Mcallister was

Yeah he's to small and light! Just like those other flops Messi, Iniesta, Mata, Hazard, Silva, Cazorla, Wilshere, Sterling, Suso...

God this post is so stupid.. FSG don't pick transfers BR actually does so why it's FSG fault the owners that saved us god knows. Do you still blame your mummy for obviously dropping you on your head as a baby?

Gary mac is a legends despite his brief stay at anfield but would he have been signed had he not been free? Monaghanred

22 Jan 2013 17:59:37
if I recall correctly Gary mac was 6foot 11 and built like a brick she*phouse.

22 Jan 2013 19:01:06
Chill chaps! The point I was making is that FSG are pushing the transfer policy of buying young preferably british talent. Stevie G and several ex players and other pundits have made the same point. You need a mix of young and older more experienced talent. Remember you won't win anything with kids!

Yeah he's to small and light! Just like those other flops Messi, Iniesta, Mata, Hazard, Silva, Cazorla, Wilshere, Sterling, Suso...
Yeah they are all players they arent sitting on a bench picking splinters out of their backside. You couldn't compare countinho to any of these players!

FSG may not pick the players but they decide the transfer policy! Ie. players under a certain age and cheap!

Yeah lets compare messi etc to a player who can't get a game and anyone who thinks FSG arent sanctioning every deal is deluded . An italian journalist on has described him as the most overrated player he has ever seen who although has showed some good touches has done nothong to justify the hype or pricetag

2posts above Gary Mac was superb, We got him too late.But your s. those must be made of straw, Yes he was fairly tall(not overly)but his build was wirey like a pull through for a rifle! Do these people say anything? Or actually see a live game? brick s. those my aspe

Just a quick note to thank everyone for their good wishes regarding my sons first trip to Anfield last Saturday, this was also my first game at Anfield since the 2007qtr final of the Champions league.

We had a fantastic weekend and the boys didn't disappoint (unlike his first trip to watch Liverpool! Spurs away last season).

Spent a fortune in the club shop, hotels, food, travel etc. but it was worth every single penny to see my lads face when the goals went in. He enjoyed it that much I think we were one of the last to leave the ground, he just didn't want the game to end. He wanted pictures of everything; his favourite is a picture next to the score board at the final whistle!

Can't wait to do it again!

What a great memory for your son to have 5-0 first time at Anfield. Great!

The city was great; I stay in Liverpool 3 or 4 times a year on business so I get to visit regularly. I have a couple of friends that live in the city so I more often than not meet up with them for a couple of beers when I visit.

Hopefully I will get to visit more often with the children growing up.

I will also be able to sneak off to the footie with my son for a weekend every now and then!

One of my first games was Liverpool v Stromogodset in 74, 11-0 and I'm sure that Stromogodset scored and the goal was disallowed and the kop were singing the referees a person for disallowing the goal. Anyone else remember that?

WHY YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE GAME!

"However, the paper reports that one of the key reasons why Murray was sacked from the role was because he "irritated a number of tv football pundits".

"Alan Hansen sneeringly told Murray on one occasion that he should leave the negative comments to the experts, " the paper reports."

This report today is all laughable and highly suspect and it involves those people who think they know more about the game than anyone else - players!

On sites like this we all stick our bits in and comment, ask, cajole, abuse and occasionally make good points about the game. But what the hell do you know? You're just a fan and NOT a player! The number of pundits who think their word is almost gospel is frightening in this context. Martin Keown whose pontificication is laughable; Hansen who always wants the last word and often with a sneering look; Shearer whose dull as ditchwater drivel is often inaccurate and Collymore who insists, nay, almost demands, that he talks over anyone who wants to put a point forward. So what the hell do you know about the game compared to these people?

Take the media - this is one person's view of the game as they see and write about it. It is not the most truthful in your eyes but woe betide anyone who disagrees with them. These are the people who believe Suarez is still a racist; who see Dalglish as being flawed in every way as a manager; who love Redknapp and imbue him a sense of old Cockney jollity and the people who are not sure Sturridge is worth the money.

I record most of MOTD and fast forward thorugh the drivel from Lineker et al. Ask what they bring to the programme? It's endless reruns of the action and 'expert pundits' telling us that "that was offside" or "that was a penalty." One - I can see that for myself and work out it was offside. Two - it was NOT a penalty because the ref didn't blow or give one. Now ask yourself how important their contributions are to the programme and football in general.

Take talkSH**E (literally please and drop it in the ocean!) and ask why they come up with such outrageous openers to programme such as "Has Benitez lost you any chance of fourth place?" or "Isn't Lampard worthy of another 15 year contract at £8 million a year?" Why? Because they want to provoke you to ring in (coffers and cash registers chinging away) and talk to the ex-players who have been set up as experts such as Ray Houghton, Alvin Martin and Jason Cundy. I'd rather talk to a UKIP politician.

I'm a Liverpool supporter. I've been playing awful football since 1965. I've been supporting the club home and away since 1960. I've watched non-league stuff and Sunday morning football for decades. I don't need any pundits or washed up ex-player to tell me that I am seeing is worth my time or their help in understanding. The only pundit worthy of a mention is Chris Kamara - at least he doesn't take himself seriously and that's to be admired.

Liverpool FC and its players don't need a running commentary from ex-players and neither do we. The tv could save us millions in wages if they dumped the self-opinionated experts and just gave us what we want - football.

Good post often think that myself

But the other night it was good to hear Gary Neville's insight into the Manc dressing room and their ruthless attitudes to winning and accountability for individual errors

The manc success is not down luck it is down to having the right attitude

There are better teams and players in the league but they all lack the right winning mentality

Leam Red

Best post on this site for sometime! the attention to detail and close scrutiny of football these days is beyond a joke! talking about pundits, the one who really grates me and it could be the fact that he absolutely detests lfc is robbie savage! absolutely no sense what so ever and only his opinion is of importance! I often think that they detest liverpool so much is because they were always on the end of a good hiding when they played us. Seriously though this constant analysis has to stop. it was offside because the linesman said it was. It was a penalty because the ref gave it. Leave it at that for god sake!

ian the red

And breathe!!!!!!!!! some good points tho we do love to debate, and you obviously still watch and listen to 'the pundits' as I do, I've just never been mug enough to ring in and spend money on calls

Red Lee missed the point it seems. I watch the action and edit out the waffle. I can avoid the pundits that way. The post is about how important they feel they are.

Colin Murray was fun, obviously enjoyed watching football and treated it with the irreverent banter that the game deserves. Rearrange following words - foot, shoot, in, themselves, the. Nice one tv (out of touch) persons.

ND

I couldn't disagree with a single word

Chris in Tamworth

Bang on. Smug, pompous and self important the lot of them. And I think they should get rid of commentators as well - just have the sounds of the crowd cheering, booing etc not some dose telling us what has just happened when we have just watched it ourselves.

Mantis.

Nice post.
This is made me chuckle!
"Take talkSH**E (literally please and drop it in the ocean!)"

I Liked Murry Better than Linker, and Larwenson, at least he brought some Humer to the show
K.O.B

Actually, what I would like when watching the game live on S*y (I can't always get to matches) is for them not to do long lingering shots of someone in the crowd, or worse the manager, have the commentator say the persons name and then for the name to appear on the screen (with that f#####g annoying zing) whilst we can hear the crowd in the background cheering on an exciting attack.
I can ignore the punditary by keeping the sound down and getting a cuppa at half time.
MartinR

Couldn't agree more. Personally what I'd like to see, rather than listen to the studio point of view, is when they are replaying various views of the goals is a few images of the crowd and the bench celebrating. Maybe then one or two of the opposing crowd and bench. That would make it feel like a real match!

Great original post. Especially in the light of comments from Savage & Dublin on Radio 5 live's (previously one of Murray;s employers) 606. Savage & Dublin seem to believe that their past experience as pros gives them a unique right to pontificate on any on field or off field issue even when the constantly contradict themselves and each other. In any other field of journalism you wouldn't last five minutes with the standards we have to endure from so called experts.

Redpath

Ultimately it all comes down to money and I fully understand what you are trying to explain but you're only looking at it from your point of view. Maybe you've not had the chance to stop and think that everything that you've complained about is all part of a system, and systems create jobs for people, not only the faces that are presented for you on the television but the people behind the curtains, so to speak. Everyone has a choice whether to listen and digest or not to pay any attention at all. I think your scratching the surface of something much bigger than you think, something football fans would most definitely choose to ignore. Quite frankly this conversation could lead to much more complex issues and I'd rather not go there right now but in the current state of the world now, regardless of what type of escapism you choose or what side you've chosen to be subjected to or should I say, divided and conquered, giving more power to cooperations by cutting jobs to make them more powerful is the last thing we as people need right now. Time is ticking and people have no idea what's coming, they're just too occupied thinking about things like what you've just written up there.

Love the thought provoking post.

Have you got a mute button on your controller.
if so hit it, put a sounds of there ocean cd on and calm down.

i for one enjoy the commentators, analysts and hosts. I think it adds to the match coverage, especially if there is decent build up to the game.

any I don't hate Neville as much as I used to, imo he is a decent pundit and not as biased as you would being a united player.

i watch pretty much every liverpool game live and I do watch m.o.t.d after to get that little bit more incite on the game. must say there was very little done on liverpool saturday night but I did enjoy how they showed the way to take bale out of the game.

if we took bale out of the game at white hart lane we would have 3 extra point right now. he was the difference between us winning and losing.

KUMBER

I get what your saying, the constant rewinding the action, the pundit analysis is irritating, sometimes to the extreme.
I don't know why they don't follow the example of the Itv4 Bundesliga highlights show which suits my taste.
Admittedly not everyone is the same and some actually enjoy the analysis from the pundits, in that case? Another seperate half hour show immediately after MOTD for all the interviews and punditry. That way the choice is yours.

I think Neville is the exception that proves the rule. He is an ex-player but has only just retired. I didn't think he would be any good at first, or would be pro-United (god forbide Sky don't need another one), but I now have to admit he does have good insight into the dressing room, defensive work and great analysis. Just a year or two ago he was playing and he came straight in and showed all these so called "experts" how to analyse a match. I would happily listen to Neville's boring voice than all the other ex-players who provide all the skills of a piece of wood.

Any man and his dog can comment on the match with the same skill as most pundits, so why do they need to bankroll expensie ex-stars? Most top managers these days (or good up and coming managers) never had illustrious careers, so why do the pundits? Especialy with the increased availability of statistics.

A few years back we went on a bit of a spending spree on the youth teams..Sterling, Sinclair, Ibe, Ojo to name a few as this side of recruitment still going on or have all the top young talent been snaffled up.
I know Rodgers said he would be looking more to the local youngsters..is this the club rethinking recruitment...

Just got back from West Kirby beach and guess who I bumped into Rafa, he was way out close to Hiberry Island with his two springers, I've got a springer as well they had a right good game of fetch. Anyway he's worse than me Rafa he's loves them dogs.
Got talking to him about the football, he said that Coutinho was a player he had high hopes for at Inter and LFC should try their best to sign him as he would be ideally suited to the fast pace of the Premier.
So there you have it, Rafa really rates him.
Right! I know what your going to say, this is bull Rafa is down in London managing Chelsea? That's the real hoot, I asked Rafa right away "Thought you'd be down at Chelsea Rafa" he just laughed "That's not me, " he said " Do you remember the liverpool taxi driver that looks like me" yeah! "Your double" I laughed
Yes him said Rafa "Well he's managing Chelsea now, he doesn't know anything about football but Chelsea don't seem to mind"
He's a really great fellah Rafa with a great sense of humour. Wait till Chelsea find out.

22 Jan 2013 13:19:42
Afternoon Ed002, hope your well and thank you for the updates.

I was curious about the exclusivity Galatasarray had with Sneijder/Inter. Is it common for clubs to do this? I understand the the bidding club would be happy with this but what advantage is this for the selling club or the players agent trying to get the best deal?

It's a bit like bidding for a house and then asking that no else is allowed to view it if both parties agree on a price.

Now that Southampton have bid for Coutinho and will probably outbid LFC I'm just curious as to why we haven't tried it?

dmedly {Ed002's Note - It is not at all uncommon for clubs on the mainland to strike such agrements but is very uncommon in England. The analogy with the house is correct. Liverpool cannot do it with Coutinho as they have not submitted an acceptable bid.}

Hi Ed002,
just wondering furter to this post, knowing Southampton are interested, made a bid etc would liverpool wait to see what bid was accepted before matching it rather than small increases until they get a bid accepted themselves. Just something I thought about myself. What do you think, YNWA Simonpw {Ed002's Note - No idea, sorry.}

Im gutted that once again we have bid outbid on a player by a smaller club, Coutinho would be a very good buy for Liverpool weather the price is £8m or £12m we should be buying him, looks like were going to end up with no one.

BigD {Ed002's Note - So you think other clubs should be banned from bidding on players Liverpool have an interest in?}

Now that's s cracking idea, Ed002. Certainly would make all of this transfer business easier to deal with. Perhaps something along the lines of 'teams with 5 or more European championships always have first right of refusal on any transfer'? Surely something for UEFA to get behind!

Ed.. I think that would be an excellent rule

22 Jan 2013 13:13:20
Hi Eds,

First serious post of the day... Sorry, just fancied a laugh..

I would just like to ask a question to Ed001 or anybody who can provide an answer.

This Jordan Rossiter guy in our accademy. I've read all about the hype (best since Gerrard, new Stevie, most promising player for a decade etc).. Now given the fact we already have an incredibly young midfield, and players like Pelosi and Suso coming through with 1st team potential, surely giving a chance to the youngsters we have, is far more sensible than paying £8m for a player who has been called too lightweight for Italy!

So my question is, how long, or how far off in ability is Rossiter from making an appearance? We've already seen Sinclair smash the record for the youngest player, so what are Rossiters odds?

YNWA! (Adam)

Considering he still hasn't started his scholarship I think it may be a while as I can't see a 16 year old participating in premier league games but next season he may appear on the bench in the Capital One Cup. Also the central midfield spots have a lot of competition. However with Brendon in charge if your good enough you're old enough. Ultimately it's down to the player to prove himself and impress when given the chance to play in the u18's or next gen series.

Red Bish

He's 15 there's no way he will get a game anytime soon.

Ed02 is it true that there is middle east interest in LFC again? A certain Times journo mentioned it to me last week. Saudi family 'fama' have been at LFC offices for last 3 months. A person who works in commercial on a tv deal has spoke about this. It fits in with FSG plan. Buy cheap, install young mgr, lower the wage bill and sort stadium issue.

Steveo {Ed002's Note - I would think this "certain Times journo" was teasing you with a story from back in the day long before NESV (FSG) became involved with the club.}

Liverpool are gunna put a bid in for David villa
__________________________________________

Lies!

My "sources" tell me that it is in fact, "a cheeky bid" for David Villa.

However, said bid, may just be a "smokescreen" for the real bid, which will be a "part exchange" deal for Lionel Messi, with Suarez + £40m going to Barca. "Fact".

YNWA! (Adam)

22 Jan 2013 13:15:37
Au Contraire. My mum's sister's dad's son's nephew's dog's cat's hamster's owner has told me that Messi is infact a "smokescreen" for Ken Aguero who is driving up a lorry full of crisps, pork scratchings and Sneijder. Sneijder will then in turn pilot a helicopter to bring in Torres, Mascherano and Alonso and all five will then parachute into Anfield to sign at half time against Arsenal.

True Story.

The smokescreen deal is not a myth, what Liverpool do is pretend they are in for a mediocre player, to incite the watchful jealousies of other teams. They they sit back and let the other team 'steal the deal' before Liverpool go in for the real deal. Example Dempsey (smokescreen deal), Sturridge (real deal), Tottenham suckers.

After listening to some of Ian Ayre's interviews and stuff, if I was a player and he approached me to joining the club I wouldn't be that keen. How come Robinson don't get more games as it is? With Rodgers willing to put Johnson on the LB, I would rather let Johnson take the RB, and put Wisdom to the bench.
Personally I value Robinson as one of the most gifted youth right now.

Robinson has everything to be a fantastic left back but he's only young and not as physically developed as Wisdom. Anywhere in the back 4 or in goal, you have to be physically up to it.
Robinson needs just a bit more time.

Mark y.n.w.a {Ed002's Note - Ed001 recommended the Premier Inn at L1 to someone else. Perhaps that would suit?}

The Premier Inn on Queens Drive at the Jolly Miller is quite handy. It's a 5 or 6 stop bus journey then a walk up Utting Avenue or a short taxi ride direct from the hotel. You can also walk there in 30 minutes or so.

The Campanile is pretty standard and at a good price but it is in town near the Albert docks.

Premier Inn Albert Dock is really nice and not expensive, stay away from Campanile its a dump & bar closes at 10:00pm

Coutinio has rejected a move to liverpool he said he is happy at Inter.

I can't believe how many people take these press statements at face value . This is exactly what you would say if you wanted a move to Liverpool .

How do you guys hold down jobs, or sell/buy cars or avoid doing the housework etc ?

He's hardly going to come out and publicly state that he wants a move away. Otherwise if the move didn't happen, he wouldn't get another game for Inter until he does move.

I don't think its a joke and if the poster please explain how a player saying "he is happy where he is" equates to "exactly what you would say if you wanted a move" ..

Liverpool are considering allowing Sebastian Coates to join Wigan on loan as Roberto Martinez steps up his search for a new defender.
Martinez is desperate to bolster his defence before the transfer window closes after losing Ivan Ramis for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury and Coates has emerged as a target.

The Reds are happy to loan out the Uruguayan international and Martinez could drop all interest in West Brom youngster Craig Dawson and move for Coates instead.

--------

Best possible move for him as he will get game time and will then be 1st choice back up next season for us when Carra retires.

How is this a good move for LFC. We are trying to push for CL place. FA cup and UEFA cup with Agger Skrtel and Carra only. Wilson is out on loan Kelly injured. Wisdom at full back as we keep having to use Glen to cover LB.

It appears that Coutinho is happy to stay at Inter Milan according to tv;

Philippe Coutinho admits he is flattered by Liverpool's interest in him, but says he is looking to fight for his place at Inter Milan.

The Premier League side are in talks with Inter over a deal for the playmaker, having already seen one bid rejected.

It was fully expected that an £8million deal would be agreed between the two clubs, but now the player has cast some doubt on whether he wants to actually make the move to Anfield.

Coutinho says he is happy with the young squad at Inter and wants to impress coach Andrea Stramaccioni.

"The Liverpool offer? I'm happy with these offers, because it means I am doing my job well, " he told Sky Italia.

"But I think Inter have faith in me and I want to show my value here. I don't feel that I'm on my way out. I hope to stay at Inter.

"The young players feel the faith of the coach and of the club: me, Juan Jesus, Benassi, Bessa and the others."

Wonder if Brendan Rodgers has an alternative?

22 Jan 2013 09:36:39
Coutinho says his happy at inter milan so I'm guessing this would rule out a move for him eds??.I don't think this is a bad thing, he wouldn't have really improved our midfield

22 Jan 2013 09:16:25
I for one am glad that transfer info is harder to come across these days.
Liverpool playing cards close to their chest is a fantastic idea and stops other clubs trumping us and moving in on our targets. The goings on with Forren shows that he was a target but we knew he wasn't going to improve starting 11 so we let Southampton take over, perhaps the Coutinho deal is similar. Would he improve the starting XI? I'm not so sure he would. Then are we going to waste £8m-£10m on a player to bench warm, which would in turn reduce the amount available now, and more importantly, in the summer, when a better general standard of target will be available.

Anfield Andy {Ed002's Note - You need to go back and read what was said about Forren.}

22 Jan 2013 08:20:31
Hi Eds,

If Blackpool are holding Liverpool to a 8 million pound asking price for Ince, do you feel that it is suspect that we offer 8 million to another club (inter) for a player (Coutinho) at around the same price?

What I mean is: - Is it possible that Liverpool knew that Inter would not accept the deal, but purposely made the offer to Inter to put pressure on Blackpool to release an unsettled Ince at a lower price, as it would now seem to Blackpool that Liverpool are considering 'other options'?

I'm not usually one for that kind of depth or 'paranoia' but do clubs work that way? {Ed002's Note - Liverpool have not been putting effort in to buying Coutinho in order to impress Blackpool.}

Can someone explain to me what Coutinho and Inter have to do with Ince and Blackpool? I don't understand why people are linking the 2. One is predominately a CAM the other a winger/ forward, so i'm not sure why people are trying to link the 2, they don't play the same position so how would bidding for Coutinho force Blackpool's hand over Ince? i'm confused by this!

Scouts from both Liverpool and Juventus will watch Marco Rojas in action for Melbourne Victory this weekend according to reports.

The 21-year old New Zealand winger is the subject of interest from the Premier League and Serie A clubs respectively and will be monitored when the Victory host Alessandro Del Piero's Sydney FC at AAMI Park on Saturday.

Rojas, who has scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 15 A-league games this season, comes out of contract with the Victory in April and would demand a $750,000 transfer fee.

Now that seems a real bargain at that price & wages, if it don't work out i'm sure we would get our money back.

we are playing johnson out of position when enrique is injured and robinson is not ready yet, we should spend the litlle money we have on shaw from soton.
same goes for lucas we need another midfielder to rotate him, we have no other midfielder who can play his role.
i see these positions more urgent than a attacking midfielder or winger.
we can get those in summer.
thats just my opinion.

Some would argue that Robinson is just as ready as Shaw.

Hello Ed's,
I know there has been a lot of speculation linking us to Phillipe Coutinho, however I seen you mention an interest from Southampton also, now I know Coutinho was out on loan at Espanyol last year, and the manager of Espanyol back then was Mauricio Pochettino who is obviously now manager of Southampton following Nigel Adkins sacking.

Was just wondering whether that is where Southampton's interest is coming from or whether he was linked before Pochettino took over as manager?

I'm still confident he will be a Liverpool player in the coming days however YNWA! {Ed001's Note - he was linked before, but it seems that was because Pochettino has been preparing to take over for a while now.}

22 Jan 2013 04:39:38
Coutinho could be good but we need 2 things in the cam role in my opinion:

1) experience
and
2) goals

Experience ain't so important if he guarantees goals but Coutinho's scoring record is patchy. I think we should wait until summer to fill the role - see if anyone like Ozil or Eriksen becomes available.

It is being reported here in NZ and Oz that NZ and Melbourne Victory winger Marco Rojas is being seriously looked at by Liverpool and Juventus. He is a huge talent who fits the FSG criteria of youth, talent and probable good onsale value.

22 Jan 2013 02:33:23
Is it possible that Coutinho is being "bought" to replace Suarez? Suarez is effectively our skillful playmaker now Sturridge is here and if we buy Coutinho surely that would be the psition he would play? What is everyone elses opinions on this?

Ratty888

I think they play completely different positions. Having said that I can see Suarez leaving in the summer, maybe even to Man City.

Is there some new rule where clubs arent allowed to have 2 playmakers in the same team? Surely adding another playmaker like Coutinho would make Suarez's job easier, not replace him?

I think that we need to find the next michu, the current michu is probably out of our price range now. The point is we should have scouted better for years to find better players, so we need to take a chance on younger players who are cheaper, for now.
Thomas

Michu will be a one season wonder. I bet he scores about 5 goals next season.

Missing out on Sneijder has saved LFC millions in wasted salary payments on someone who has had one great season!

Liverpool's move for Ochina the goalkeeper who has six fingers on his right hand has been blocked by the FA, after Fergie complained it gave us an unfair advantage.
'Typical scousers always cheating', Fergie is reported as saying.
An impartial FA spokesman (David Gill) said ' yes sir, will do'.

Lol, I hope nobody is taking this 6 fingers as real.

He actually does have 6 fingers..

Was on the msn home page and there was a link saying 'Coutinho signs for liverpool £8 million' I went 2 click on it but accidently clicked on the wrong link.. Went back and the link was gone. Looks like they written the article ready for the transfer! Happy days!

Ive clicked on it and its basically saying that he's on the verge of signing and that liverpool are confident that it will be done before the end of the week.
It says its sourced from the Liverpool Echo and usually if its in the Echo, its legit.

Just like the Dempsey link on NESN in the summer.

ed, How reliable is usually? He is saying a lot on twitter about coutinho.

Thanks
Jenko {Ed001's Note - would this be Balague? Sorry the swear filter has removed the name, which would suggest it could be him. He was reliable in the Rafa era, because Rafa was a bit loose lipped and the pair are friends. Nowadays, he is just another journalist, it comes down to where he has sourced it from. Inconsistent would be a good word, sometimes he is bang on, sometimes he is just repeating what he has heard from somewhere else and other times he is miles out.}

A lot of rumours about Butland being the replacement for Reina if he leaves. The guy has talent but hasn't had a good season. On the other hand, Fraser Forster has been absolutely outstanding for Celtic, especially in the Champions League against Barcelona. Comfortably the best goalie in Britain so far this season. He should be the number 1 target

LM67

Mignolet swap for Downing or Krul swap for Carroll.

Mantis

No.1 target should be Marc Ter Stegan.

Hi eds who or what is Coutinho? He's Brazilian (worries me as think of Aurelio good but always injured). Some say next big thing, whatever that is, or he's too lightweight for the prem? Are we all going to be devastated when he doesn't sign or we get Ince instead? Who I believe should stay at Blackpool till end of next season learn his trade then move IMO. Think we all want a couple more in, an attacking player whoever that is preferably older player, and a defender for cover.
Do think if he can get another in he will, let's just see what happens.

Why do you think of Aurrelio when Brazil is mentioned? Why not Lucas?

Can't help but think we should quit whilst we're ahead and not sign Coutinho or anyone else. We've got Sturidge, Borini is back, Hederson is looking good and Downing is getting more confidence. Save the money for summer to buy a quality player! £8m now + wages will put a big dent in the summer funds.

8m now or 20m in 2 years?

BthekingB

Coutinho will be a big name player in the near future why not buy him now? for £8mil is a steal, in your opinion big players are the once that cost £20mil plus.

All these things that Courtinho supposedly said that people are posting about, such as he's told Lucas that he wants to come to Liverpool and others posting that he's said he wants to stay at Inter...I hope that these aren't things that people got off twitter, twitter is non-sense and lies, that's all it is.
My mate thought that Sly Stallone had died the other night because it was on twitter.
I wouldn't pay attention to it.

What your mate actually read was that Sly Stallones career is dead. Or that Sly Stallone looks half dead

SAly Stallones alive? He looks dead.

The Telegraph are now reporting that Liverpool hope to conclude the Coutinho deal before the Oldham clash! They are pretty reliable? Or am I wrong? Scouserseb

One of the most reliable.

Coutinho could and should have been the next big thing in world football but he made a big mistake of leaving Brazil when he was 18. He needed a few more years to develop and continue playing 1st team football in brazil
He development has stalled somewhat at Inter (pressure / physicality / other top players etc)

This is why players like Lucas Moura and Oscar have waited until they were 20 to move to Europe
Continho is not as strong as these two and probably not as skilful as Lucas

He is built more like Neymar who coincidentally is delaying his move to Europe until he completely ready - wise decision

Leam Red

Countinho is a what you would call a money ball signing - has all the ability and skill to be big but is not fulfilling his potential at his current club

He is a big gamble in the EPL - handle him properly then could be price - throw him in the deep end then he may not settle
