Just been watching motd. rooney scored from 54 yards so of course it has to be goal of the season (or decade, or century!), superceding his goal of the season, decade, century from last season! There is (according to motd) only one other goal that comes into contention and that was scored by rooney's twin beckham. I personally think that the first Suarez goal against Norwich (although nearer) was a better goal than either. The most important point though is that Suarez has scored 28 goals in the same number of games that rooney has scored 13. The fact is that quantity is always better than quality when scoring in the Premier League.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Rooney's goal was in front of Beckham, who was at the West Ham vs Manchester United game and who about 15 years ago did a similar feat for United against Wimbledon. This is why MotD showed the comparison between those two goals (no one else's)

We are currently 2nd in the Premier League, have near earned ourselves a Champions League qualification place, have currently scored more goals than anyone else so far this season and have the two top goal scorers in the League and one of the youngest squads in the Premiership and we just won away from home 3-6 with Suarez getting a hat trick and yet you find something to moan about.

You are supporting the wrong club, with this ''Poor Us'' mentality.

Agree0 Disagree0

Xabis were both better than shreks

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont forget suarez's goal last season against norwich from the same distance as rooney's. never got this much credit hah.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tettey's was better, Suarez has scored many better, Beckham's (though also massively overrated) was better… It was a great goal, but just because of the distance and because it was Rooney it will probably win goal of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont forget the leagues top scoring centre back aswell

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Ollieston. Who cares what media say.I thought it was a good goal by a good player. Why compare it?

Agree0 Disagree0

You are supporting the wrong club, with this ''Poor Us'' mentality. Ollieston

Sorry ollieston but I can't understand this part of your reply. I am (and have been for sixty years) supporting the right club. Perhaps you can explain your reasoning (or, more likely, perhaps you can't!).

if we don't win the league but are the highest scorers, and break the most league goals scored in a season like some suggest we will, then it really shows the imbalance between our offence and defence

I just saw this on the comments section of RTE Sports website:

I was a Man U fan yesterday but today I've converted to the mighty Liverpool. I see your team is a lot better than the one of Manchester.

Kids these days.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm guessing it was either Alex Ferguson, or Daveyboyblue (second team) :)

How about this for the final showdown.
Everton host city on the last day. A win for them would take them to EL for sure. and would give us the title?

What you guys think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

One game at a time Harry.

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

This is a rediculous post!

Agree0 Disagree0

Red rum, why did you say Harry to home fan2? Are you suggesting it is Harry scouser in disguise?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is Harry, as is Ajay.}

Ah right, cheers ed

Agree0 Disagree0

I would take that, but like Red-Rum said, one game at a time. the season is far from over.

Agree0 Disagree0

Title, no question. Everton can have all the Europa League they want.

If we don't finish above Arsenal, then it would be worse than getting relegated.
Arsenal are being smashed aside by Chelsea, And This is the first time Chelsea scored 4 goals in any match this season, against a top 4 side

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So you're saying arsenal are terrible because Chelsea haven't scored 4 against city or Liverpool! What are you smoking?

Agree0 Disagree0

Home_fan2,

No offence mate, but you haven't finished above Arsenal in many many years.

You probably will this season, and deservedly so, but try to be graceful and not disgraceful.

Agree0 Disagree0

Barring a few games arsenal have been in the running the whole way, arguably the best team in the first half of the season!

Agree0 Disagree0

Embarrassing post that mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

But totally 5hite in the 2nd Conbicks, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Worse than getting relegated? Those are the kind of comments which would make me change my name. Div

Goals. drama. assist. chase. song. everything.
4 goals in 45 mts

Great win today. Three points closer to securing cl qualification. Were starting to win the games were expected to win and that, imo, is the sign of champions. Credit to BR, in the space of two years he's managed to shift all the underperforming players on high wages, bring the best out of the rest of the squad and he's got us playing arguably the best football in the premiership. Even if we don't achieve our dream of winning the title this year, rogers has set the foundations that could see us becoming a force to be reckoned with for years to come.

bring on Wednesday, hopefully another 3 points to add to the table.

4 more goals for Suarez to beat the premier league goal scoring record of 31 in a season (38 games)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Mar 2014 22:11:47
Piece of cake! Suarez has got it covered!

Agree0 Disagree0

Shearer and cole have 34 in premier league era, but with 42 games

Agree0 Disagree0

22 more goals in total and we will break the most goals scored collectively in an epl season.

Thats just short of 3 a game.

We have now scored 3 or more in 17 of our 30 premier league games this season.

5 were won by 4 goals
4 were won by 5 goals
and today was 6

It would require us to keep this momentum going till the end of the season but its not beyond us.

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought he'd bag 28 this season in the league, can't see him not scoring for 8 more games, oh well, it's nice to be wrong :P

Agree0 Disagree0

I said before the season started that if SAS can get 40 between them we'd get top 4

Agree0 Disagree0

As far as I see its only 1 more goal. We still need to play against Norwich.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2014 20:33:58
Didn't watch the game so can't really judge but that was a high scoring scrappy win no? If we win our next two games and city beat arsenal we could go 9 points clear!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Mar 2014 22:14:24
9 points clear of what?

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal I think. It would basically eliminate any chance of us not competing in the Champions League next season, assuming United win it and we finish 4th. Not that I think they will but stranger things have happened.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry I thought it I was clear I meant the gunners

Eds and reds,
We are expecting a left back, centre midfielder and winger to come in the summer and then replacements for players sold.
However, is that not just replacing Aly Cissokho at left back and Victor Moses as a winger?
Are we happy with the squad depth we have and will just rely on the academy players instead of a big squad?

Great win today. SAS in attack, SOS in defence.
The title is still Man City's to lose, Chelsea and Liverpool will capitalise if they do.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Obviously you cannot keep adding to the squad without making room for players. And of course there is nothing to say that Cissokho and Moses won't join Liverpool on a permanent basis. Both are available.}

Dont forget our loanies coming back mate.

Ed fellow reds, great result again today well played red men . Just driving home had on and Chelsea fan saying we have no chance of winning the league because our squad not strong enough .any way had a look at fixtures and surprisingly if Jose can beat PSG, the semis for champs league is April 29th .2 days after LFC v Chelsea wonder which roman would prefer if he has to choose .

At the game today, shaky start, Cardiff fans deserve to be in the prem, great supporters, pity about the owners and manager.
Gerrard top draw again, ran the game, Hendo works tirelessly, and the two up front are electric when they are around the box.

I said before the game that the game was more important than the Utd game, a defining game in our season, just shows the desire of the team, years gone by we would have lost that game but now we look the real deal.

Top Draw can't wait to what it when I get home.

hi all, I watched today's game on USA goals steaming site.
i still watch the match on this site even when we are on sky.because we always seem to win when I watch it on line. what I want to know am I superstitious or just mad.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Both, but keep doing it until the end of the season, just in case!

Agree0 Disagree0

Superstition is just nonsense anyway, so regardless, you're mad ;)

Did anyone actually get worried at any point in today's game? I certainly didn't & I think last season I'd of looked at going to Cardiff as a banana skin let alone going behind twice but I always thought we'd win & we did. Inevitably people will moan about the defense but I have no problem with it. We can now change the team which didn't deserve to be changed for this game to allow probably for Lucas & sakho

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not this season!
In previous years, I like you would have worried about Cardiff away. This season I wasn't worried at all.
Previously had we gone one down I would think we were going to get turned over. Not any more.
I know there are going to be times when we are going to get beat.
But yesterday after there second to go 2-1 I still wasn't worried. Ours heads did not go down like in previous years. In fact I think it fired up the players because Cardiff seemed to be bossing the game up until then.
I was streaming the match as I could not get there for family reasons and people were slating BR in the chat for not putting Sterling on from the start. When I explained that Cardiff seemed to play quick footy in the first half and they seem to tire very quickly after the 60 minute mark because of it so expect to see Sterling come on then, and his pace would be utilised I was called all kinds of names. They soon changed there tune when Sterling made his appearance (around 65 minutes I think).
BR's tactical nouse this season has been exceptional and regardless of where we finish in the league, for what he has done at this club this season deserve's the manager of the year award at the seasons end.
Onwards to Wednesday. Keep up the good work!

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't put Lucas back in, I think Gerrard offers much more in a CDM role. Sakho I'm not sure about, although Agger has been better recently, I'm still not convinced by him. Just look at how Campbell glided past him yesterday.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Mar 2014 10:56:21
Agger and Gerrard/Allen were at fault for the goals yesterday. For the first, Allen cheaply conceded possession and Gerrard let Mutch go straight past him and by the time he reacted it was too late. Agger then let Campbell breeze past him due to his inability to tackle with his right foot. Then Agger again failed to follow Mutch Into the box and gave him a free header from Jones' knockdown. Ecstatic with the win. 6 goals in any game is phenomenal, but 3 silly mistakes cost us vital goal difference.

We're second on merit guys, we are the neutrals Champions this year, whatever we end up with all the credit has to goto BR. Be it top 4, or PL Champions, he has been immense. Hopefully we can bring even more into the game on Wednesday, that would set us up nicely for Tottenham.

So proud of the team.

Can anyone else see Chelsea dropping points now?
I know we are all praying for it but will it happen?
Personally I think city have a harder run of games so they will drop points.
Confident we can beat city and Chelsea but that won't be enough to take it.
Happy with how the league has gone this year but I'm starting to worry because we are so close but it's out of our hands.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - they have to play us at Anfield, so there is a chance of them dropping points.}

Bet U didn`t think they would lose to Villa BUT the did so your comment is pointless. They have to play us and we`ll see what happens.

Agree0 Disagree0

Everyone will drop points, its city's title for me, no distractions, just got to match ours/Chelsea's results in 8 games, can afford to lose to us, and probably one more and win it

Agree0 Disagree0

I know they have to play us so they can drop points but aside from that they don't really have any massively difficult games even if we beat them and they win all the rest they would still be above us by 1 point. I'm hoping results go our way. I have faith in the team to win the rest of the games but that still might not be enough, that's all I was saying.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sounds like life in general really.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2014 20:31:43
Well, if we win our game in hand, and beat Chelsea at Anfield, then we're a point up on them. So if thereafter we both drop the same number of points (and I think it's just as realistic for us to not drop any more points as it is for them), we'll be ahead.

It's City I'm watching. If City win the two games in hand they have over us they'll have a 4 point advantage, so even if we have a perfect end to the season including a win against them at Anfield, they could still pip us by a point if they have a perfect end to the season.

Now obviously it's unlikely that even one of the three of us will have a perfect run from now until the end of the season, but the point I'm making is that where we finish vs. Chelsea is 'in our own hands'. Whilst if City have as good a run in as we do between now and the end of the season, there's nothing we can do. They'll beat us by a point, even if we beat them at Anfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rodgers has worked a minor miracle getting us into our current position, considering what he inherited.

And he hasn't done it with cynical, attritional football (Jose) but made us into an awesome attacking force.

If we finish in the top three it will be an amazing achievement, and a solid foundation for next year and beyond.

If we actually went and won it then he could stand amongst the greats. Sadly I can't see City dropping that many points.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your right something red, I completely forgot about our game in hand. I had worked it out wrong, city are looking the bigger threat. I'm praying for united to do a job for us on Tuesday but what's the chances?

Agree0 Disagree0

I've a feeling it may come down to goal difference between all 3. I still think there are a couple of draws and losses to be handed out among the top 3.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2014 18:25:52
Fantastic grit from the boys! We will learn and gain more from these results than any other, credit to Cardiff they came at us in the first 20 and we were sloppy and slow, turned up the heat in the 2nd half and played well dominating.

Hi all congratulations today its looking like the PL is beyond us now so really hope you kick on and win it, have said all season if its not us I hope its you lifting the title trothy this year.

Just a quick question on Arsene Wenger, if he had been your manager the last 18 years and his record with Liverpool was identical to his Arsenal record, invincibles and stadium and all but also no silverware for 9 years, would you want him to stay or go this summer?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think the question should be would you have prefered our last 18 years?

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsene has done a great job at Arsenal had some great teams and managed the financial side excellent, he just gets a bad rap from all the Arsenal fans and has little support, this then runs through the team at difficult periods of the season.
We would have given the team and him more support and hence I think he would have won more with us with what he had- my opinion only

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice 1 Guns. Very tough question that. He gave you what We've wanted so badly for 24 years. The title. So it's hard because he'd be held as highly as the Anfield greats such as Shanks Bob Kenny Fagan ect.
Personally I think it's time he stepped aside for you boys now. He's taken the club as far as he possibly can, doing similar to what Shanks did for Liverpool laying down the mass foundations for Arsenal to dominate. Your recourses and revenue can match the top clubs from around the world,, he's implemented a passing philosophy and changed a new image of the way Arsenal are seen. From boring boring Arsenal to 'pass you to death Arsenal'.
But you need a new era of manager,, one with new ideas to carry on the great work Wenger has done and dominate once again. Now You need a Bob Paisley (not many around though)
Arsenal will never go away. They'll always be a Giant of football,, but it's time for him IMO to step down.
Good luck for the rest of the season mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Gunner62, credit to wenger for 1000 games .but reality is mate great first 500 games shocking in the second 500 not saying he is a bad manager, but he would have been sacked from most top clubs in the world by now .i think you need a change a new style .dont get me wrong arsenal have always played lovely football, but you always struggle to finish the moves off .i think it down to over playing in the last third of the pitch . Just hope you can stay in top 4 now because that could sink your ship after today .my last point is if you keep wenger bring david dien back in because it gone pair shaped since he left i.m.o .goodluck gunner62

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO, he would`ve been gone and should go now. How long will this circus of getting hammered by 4/6 goals and often being out of almost every competition by March every year continue to happen before something`s done? He`s been great for you guys but SERIOUSLY, the page has to be turned ASAP or you just might wind up like the mancs who are useless as soon as the guy who built the whole thing left. Also, Arsenal fans must beware of the fact that when coaches hang around this long, they become too big to let go and that`s the situation they are now in. Good luck my gunner fans because you`re going to need it.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't Blame wenger, I believe he is pressed to sell players with value, some who twist an arm to go to, Nasri clichy van Persie etc, and he's rebuilt a decent squad. Bring in a top striker and IMO a full back either side and you will be up there.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank you all for your answers really appreciate your opinions.
I am loyal (maybe blindly so) to the man who took us from 1 0 to the Arsenal and boring boring Arsenal of George Graham and turned us into a very good to watch and admired team.
But I am aware my gratitude to Arsene keeps me believing when other Arsenal fans would gladly march him out the door personally

Good luck my gunner fans because you`re going to need it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tough question because he has done a lot for you. He definitely put the 'boring boring' arsenal chant to bed! IMO I think he needs to go. It would be nice if it was by mutual agreement, but you need a new manager with fresh ideas. Wenger has failed to buy the right players for years and your midfield is now suffering. You have not won a trophy and usually implode at the end of each season. Some of his tactics are also looking old and outdated. A new manager with a fresh outlook (and some cash to spend) is exactly what youse need!

Beat Sunderland on Weds and the pressure is right on Chelski. Man City got to tricky games coming up with Utd and Arsenal in the space of 5 days. exciting times

When you can go to any stadium and score 3/4/5/6 goals, so what if we don't have the greatest defence.

This team absolutely deserve to be in the champions league next season and it is a privilege to watch them perform week in week out.

And guess what. Glen Johnson is back! Great to see him back at his best.

Overall, great character and hunger to come from behind twice to win like that, can't wait for the next game.

Edd001, 6-3, what.did you think of the match mate?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - that was incredible, such a rollercoaster from the first half when friends and family that are in Cardiff texting me, to them mysteriously losing their phones in the second half. I don't know if my heart can take much more of this, but what a game! This is how football should be, just go and outscore the opposition. 6 wins on the trot and we look like we can match anyone.}

Edd001, sturridges backheel and assist to suarez? Phwaaaaaaa

Agree0 Disagree0

That second half was even more dominant than the whole game at OT last week. I agree with ED too. Just go out there and score more than the opponent. That`s who we are, our identity and should NEVER deviate from it. YNWA!

The best thing about the diamond, and Allen starting is that we eitherwe have either coutinho or sterling to come on, providing that threat from the bench we've struggled with this season!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Mar 2014 15:51:11

Although a much improved 2nd half performance from the young reds, Man City turned it round with a 2-1 victory. A hard fought victory for the leaders, plenty of positives for the coach whose young side were missing plenty of regulars, Harry Wilson picked up a knock before the match, Canos and Chirevella on international duty, a step up for Randall and Kent to the 21's and no Sinclair either. So even though we lost a really good performance which will have pleased Neil Critchley.

Can't believe the ref for sending off Gibbs though. Shocking.

Hi Eds,

How often do Liverpool scout Brazilian football?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has representation full time in South America.}

Predictions guys.

I'm going for 3-1 with Sturridge to score first.

Would be nice to see a draw at Stamford Bridge or maybe a win for Arsenal.

Well a very much improved performance in the 1st 45 for a very young U18. A confident Man City side will feel aggrieved going in 1-0 down at the break. A swift counter attack, Daniel Trickett-Smith fed Sam Hart in the box who fluffed his shot. The ball fell to Alex O Hanlon who shot left footed into the City net minutes before the break. Against the run of play the young reds hold a slender advantage, will give Neil Critchley a boost for his half time team talk.

Another tough tough test for Liverpool today at cardiff.
again the best thing Liverpool can do is go all out to score first and then play counter against a cardiff side who are desperate for points and will work extra hard because its Liverpool they are playing against.

no easy game here gents.

All this title talk is brilliant, I mean it's been years since we've been in the mix!

However, top 4 was always the aim this season.

If we don't manage to win it, let's not be down in the dumps and criticising the management and players alike - we all know how we get!

Whatever happens, it's been one hell of I ride!

3 nil our boys today.

Good luck today guys.

Would it be too much to ask for you to beat Chelski at Stamford Bridge and truly celebrate Arsene;s 1000 game and at the same time shatter Jose's home record.

That would be too good.

Just believe and anything is possible

We have to travel abroad today and play Cardiff. Hopefully we ca get the three points to keep the Spuds and others at bay.

To Ed02, you said if we were to go for Rodrigo he would be a replacement for someone. I'd agree Aspas and borini for me. Then we could have a mix of studge, Suarez and Rodrigo. sounds good to me.

Ideal scenario for the week : chavski and gooners draw. We spank Cardiff, 2nd place firmed up! We then spank the mackems and go top. At the week end man rubbishty and the gooners draw and we put the spuds to the sword, we are then in dreamland territory! What a big week we have coming up. I want to thank Brendan for giving me that feeling again that has lain dormant for too long but now courses through my veins. Come on the reds YNWA

Ideally arsenal beat chelsea, arsenal will drop points along the way.
if we win the next 3 games we will have a chance and when we play chelsea home we might not need to beat them a draw could enough.
my fear is that man c will win the league.

ed001, how much are BR's impact on players improvement do you think? a lot of the players are the same players we had for years, even before BR but they seem to play differently. Also with SG suggesting that he has good man to man management etc.

As someone who lives far away, I enjoy the stories you tell (1 of them being how Mourinho is different than how he portrays himself to the media, which I found very interesting).

Would appreciate if you could do another bit about BR? Also in your opinion, how tactically good is he? With more players in his disposal this season, he has been tinkering with his team / formation every game and it seems to be working very well. He seems to have become better over time.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I am told, on good authority, that it is down to Rodgers and his staff, that they spend a lot of time on the coaching side of the game. While Fergie was more like a director of football, delegating the coaching to others while he watched over things, Rodgers is more of a hands on coach. He uses similar tactics to Jose, in that he works on the players' confidence, boosting them and also sits and goes through what he wants them to work on and why. The why seems to be the bit that really makes a difference, from the way it was explained to me. The players are given an understanding of why they need to work on something, so they feel they have an aim, rather than just doing it because they are told to do so, with no idea of why. I would think his time working with Mourinho has taught him a fair bit, as I know Jose does the same thing. They build profiles of the players, not just pointing out weaknesses but also their strengths, and habits or tells. Reina's old keeping coach (whose name escapes me right now sorry!) just to do a similar thing. He built up scouting files on players, not just penalty takers, but all players, detailing what they did when they got a chance to shoot. So you see a player running towards you, it gives you an idea of their most likely actions and enable you to prepare.
Rodgers does a similar thing, which enables, for instance, Flanno to look for, as a for instance, Hazard showing signs of shifting the ball onto his left foot to go wide. Or when he is setting himself to cut inside. It gives players an edge, even if only psychologically, when they feel they have a little advantage over the player they are facing.
There are also his little sideline chats, such as pulling over Flanagan in the United game, following his booking, and settling him down, giving him some instructions and making sure his head was in the game. Just giving him that little bit of knowledge about what he had done wrong to get beaten meant he was able to get through the rest of the match without a second yellow.
It does mean that we have to be very careful about who we buy, as his style is so hands on. A player who is already the finished product, the big star type of player, will often not respond well to that kind of treatment.
As for his tactics, what more can you say than he is winning? That is the proof that his tinkering is working. The important thing is that the alterations are not made for the sake of it, it is all about targeting a specific weakness in the opposition. Which also means the scouts, who prepare reports on the opposition tactics and players, can take a lot of the credit for finding the weaknesses to exploit.}

Brilliant read, Ed001, thanks for that.

On a related note, I read a little article (think maybe from the Guardian?) where Monk was describing the differences between working with Martinez and Rodgers. Worth a google for those interested in that sort of thing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks ed001, appreciate it. I guess its no wonder that players actually do improve under BR. and when u say finished article players don't generally respond to this treatment, says a lot about SG to me, no matter the age he wants to improve himself and improve he did.

the sense of togetherness in the team is clear. the way the players celebrate together after each goal is so good to see. could this be down to BR too would you say?

there are probably some things that BR isn't very good at, but I definitely think he has learned a lot by managing Liverpool. BR's first season in charge, I predicted that BR would be our signing of the season (pretty sure you can find it), while it didn't really worked out last year, seems to have worked this year.

thank you RDL for pointing out that article, definitely worth a read!

Liverpool U18s take on Manchester City at the Kirkby Academy on Saturday morning live on LFC TV and LFCTV GO, with coverage starting at 10.30am GMT. Kick off at 11.00am.
Man City currently lead Everton on goal difference although they do have a game in hand. Liverpool, in 3rd, will be looking to cut the gap to the leaders which currently stands at 10 pts and bounce back after the heartbreak of losing the FA Youth Cup quarter-final tie at Reading on penalties and a defeat at Bolton Wanderers last weekend.
