In light of Fabio Borini being ruled out of action for up to three months, the Reds coach assessed their chances.

Mike, you return to action on Saturday against Reading - raring to go again after the international break?

We have had a good break and are looking forward to getting back to action now. We have had a few players up from the Academy to make up the numbers with the players that didn't go away and we've had some good training sessions.

How different is the training when senior players are away on international duty?

It doesn't change, really. It's just reduced numbers and if we need a few more bodies we just get a few players up from Kirkby to make up a full squad. The training methods don't change, it's just different personnel.

I know you had Rodolfo Borrell down at Melwood with some of the Academy youngsters - how valuable is that opportunity for them to impress?

It's really good for them. The international break can come at a good or bad time but for all the young kids we've got coming through at the moment it's a really good time as it's their chance to impress the manager.

While the loss of Fabio Borini for up to three months is a big blow, does this give a big chance to some of the Academy strikers?

I'm sure if need be we can call on players from the Academy to step up. It's difficult as you don't want to blood all the youngsters at the same time. The players that we've got in the squad at the moment are doing really well but you don't want to get to the point where you have too many and it can go the other way.

Adam Morgan has scored a couple of goals recently too - how impressed have you been with his attitude?

Adam was excellent for the U21s at Middlesbrough. In the first half I thought the team was outstanding with the second a bit more resilient as Middlesbrough came back out and did well. Morgo played really well in an unfamiliar position on the right hand side of the attacking three.

Explain to us the thinking behind his shift to the right?

Michael Ngoo has been playing really well in the central position for the U21s and scoring a lot of goals. Adam has been working off him and I think if Adam does get the chance to play on a regular basis for the first team it won't be in a central position because we've got Luis Suarez there where Rodgers likes to play him centre, so that's the thinking behind it. For most young players when they do get a chance in the first team it's very rare they get the chance to play in the central position and it's normally in the wide areas where they get a little bit more protection.

A lot of fans are asking why Morgan or Yesil are not playing. I hope you have got your anawers

22 Oct 2012 23:02:42
Ed2 mate reading mike marsh interview he clearly says Rodgers fancy playing suarez as striker and I think that's the reason why Borini was pushed wide now going in January transfer do you see us buying out and out striker coz that rules out lots of strikers who wouldn't be effective playing wide eg Hooper or Llorente etc etc thanks {Ed002's Note - I expect a forward and think a striker or centre forward most likely.}

I think I'm reading these boards too much, everytime I'm on another website and read the word 'person' I automatically think they are actually saying i***t!

Just watched the highlights of the Liverpool under 18's 1-0 win against Man City, got to say Jordon Ibe is looking quality, can't believe the lad is still 16, he was without a doubt the stand out performer. Although a mention for Man City's goalie Lawler i think they said his name was, without him it would have been pretty embarrassing for City.

ChrisE

2-0 where u watching really?

Sorry typo, must go on a diet these fat fingers of mine causing all sorts of trouble.

I was wondering if any of the ED's know how serious or if there is any interest from liverpool in hooper and sturridge as i think they could be good signings for us in january and with hoopers contract running down maybe he could be signed for a decent price {Ed002's Note - Try the search function.}

we should get huntelaar,worldclass in the box.
we are creating the chances huntelaar is the best finisher availible.
mark my words suarez would have told rodgers that he needs that type of player around him.
huntelaar is 29 and has 3 good years left in him,it will give us time to see if borini morgen ngoo ect will make the step up.
he scores goals everywhere he played.
ajax 98 76 goals
real 20 8 goals
milan 25 7 goals
schalke 65 49 goals
at madrid mostly from the bench,when they sold him they sold robben/sneijder ect ect new presedent.
milan bought him to make money look at milan history the do it all the time.
huntelaar is a safe bet,the owners might not want him no sell on value.
but no cl will cost more,and it would be better for my heart when we kill off matches.
last saturday the last 10 min felt like a hour haha

22 Oct 2012 21:57:16
I agree, but will the owners go for him? I doubt it...

Leandro daimoa would be my choice if we are going to spend big.

Both will not come, personally if damiao comes to england he goes to spurs! hunterlaar simply won't come!

22 Oct 2012 20:15:13
Ed, what's the point in signing Yesil if Leverkusen can just buy him back? It seems stupid that the club would sign a youngster, give him game time and I'd he does well they can just buy him back?
Cheers
NotInTheKnow {Ed002's Note - It will be more complex than that.}

Assuming he would want to sign with them again, would we have CL by then? would he be a regular? be Happy here? ... well only time will tell.

Why would he want to go back to Leverkusen? If he is good enough for Liverpool he is better than Leverkusen. If he isn't good enough for Liverpool he'll go back to Leverkusen. Simple as that.

Eds, do you think we can get any of the following in January. Grant Holt, zamora, Pato, Higuian , Sanchez or shuan goater? as we need goals cheers eds top job u do {Ed002's Note - I understand that Goater will not be available until the summer.}

Goater want's CL football.

Boot room blarney - good to win on saturday and another clean sheet. I think we have all realised that we need striker to link up with suarez so in January we will look for one,the problem is who should we go for, should it be a player who loves liverpool and would give everything or if we went for a big name on huge wages and he had an injury or didnt play well e.g torres when he jumped ship and played sh** ,the same happened with caroll though he didnt ask for his huge price tag he was deemed a waste of money so who do we get a youngster from the academy untried but will give there all,a youngster from elsewhere with promise and wants to come here and make a name for himself or a top player who has scored lots and will come if we pay the wages and fees and we hope he is going to do it for us ,who would you have ,whats your preference for this team ,discuss

I would kike us to go for someone relatively unkown but with bags of potential someone who will cost us less than 10mil so that there wont be huge price tag on him and will be given time tgo adjust and it doesnt works out will lose little bit not something like 25 mil
the striker I like is either kevin gremerio or the guy from Gabon I think his name is pierrre ....
the ideal choice for me will be Damio but too expensive and wages
Red 316

Can't we clone fowler he would be ideal in Brendan's system!
Paisley's genius

Don't know why we dont give a young player from the reserves a chance now. Surely we can have a Morgan or Yesil on the bench to bring on in a game.
Atleast that way we could solve our striker problem soon and save a lot of money if they perform well, if not we know we are making the right move in January by bringing a player in.

Jay mate Rodgers wants to play Suarez centre doesn't want to play him left or right in our front three and has got his own reason recently Morgan is playing Right hand side for our under 21.if you don't play Yesil centre then his wasted coz he wouldn't be effective as Raheem or suso if you play him Right or left in our front three. You should just check mike marsh interview at liverpool site you will get your answer why they are not playing

Hi eds, I've to find some information on advertising in football for college so was wondering if you could give me some of the figures for liverpool's main sponsors? It would be greatly appreciated, thanks and keep up the great work! Try the accounts - it'll be in there.}

22 Oct 2012 19:12:39
Ed,

I am a Glasgow Rangers fan and I follow Liverpool due to their historical Scottish links (Dalglish, Souness, Shankly, Hansen etc). My question to you is do you think Liverpool missed a trick when they didn't sign Jelavic? I can confirm from several old-co sources that Liverpool showed a keen interest in the player and were willing to stump up the transfer fee before the anfield outfit called off their pursuit of the player. I find it ironic because he is the type of player Liverpool desperately need at this moment in time. Striker who knows were the goal is, acceptable transfer fee, fits the wage structure and has potential sell on value. Himself and his father also stated Liverpool FC were the big club he dreamed of playing for in the premier league.

Thanks for you time.

John#rfc#lfc {Ed002's Note - John it is impossible to say. Everyone is interested in looking back not forward, I have no idea why.}

Totally agree, I saw it at the time, when Jelavic's agent was touting him about I thought he'd be a great buy - when I saw Everton were a likely destination I shut-up about him! Such is life - I agree with the Ed - lets focus on the players we do have - I think Borini will score more premiership goals than Jelavic - do you know why? Because he plays for a better team thats why! And because his movement is sublime...
Biscanifyoucan

So by your reckoning Torres should outscore Suarez as he plays in a much better team?

Forget premiership borini coudnt finish 3 open goal in europa league, so this its a 1 of the biggest liverpool flop, in finishing matters, no las touch, no positioning, and only similulation, that not enough, instead of paying 8 for borini rodgers shoudve got jackson martinez a very good finisher and for 6 only, or put few millions more and get jelavis... Remember nesv put 25 millions to get suarez, of course they wouldve put a good amount for jelavic and 1 thing is wen liverpool got suarez non of liverpool players had to b sold, but the budget rodgers waisted in borini

Can people please stop talking about Sturridge joining us! Thank you.

He is not that good anyway

I saw he play few times I feel he is lazy never tracks back and selfish too
why pay 15 mil for him when we can get someone better then him from abroad for 10mil or so
Red 316

Got an attitude problem but you can't deny he is talented.
Showed Torres where the goal was on Saturday.

Jay

Fans like u would not no what a good player is then he mite have a attitude but the lad scores more then a 50 mill player he wouyld be a goor buy for us borini cast us 11+ if we can get him for that or less its a grate buy his is 23 with a good goal return better then hooper

He is very lazy.. Wouldn't want him here.

Chaki

Mate the goal on saturday was a tap in all work done by mata and there were two of them for a tap in. just a lucky goal for him

Sell Cole, Downing, Carroll and possibly Henderson and go offer a cash plus player deal (Pacheco or Enrique) for Falcao. We managed to get Torres from Athletico Madrid for less than what was expected so you never know unless you ask.

I'm thinking he's looking for an upwards step, not a mid table battle.

AJH

We had also been in two Champions League finals in the past three seasons when we signed Torres.

Jay

If we are going to spend then I think daimoa is the man. If not then we could take a chance on hooper at around 7 million.

Eds with Liverpool needing a sticker and the shambles at the end of the summer window, do you think we have learned our lesson and Will have a new signing in the first week of Jan letting the player play at least five games or Will we be looking for a bargin at the end of Jan. Your taughts please.
Cheers
Marker {Ed002's Note - It makes no difference - you just need to get over Dempsey.}

What sticker do they need? I have loads of swaps.
D.L

Never wanted clint . Want a good sticker. Just want to know if business Will be done early so the new player Will have am extra month with us. That's all. If u don't know don't worry .

I think we should go for Shane Long. plenty of energy, good finisher and would work well with suarez and sterling?

Thoughts??

I keep giving my thought on this subject which is just one question
Why would WBA sell?

Chris in Tamworth

Could always give 3-5m and Downing or 9m and Hendo on loan

Would prefer a technical better player than him.
If budget is as low as everyone says, then we should go for him..

Chaki

22 Oct 2012 17:19:50
Expect interest in Huntelaar to grow. Coming towards the end of his contract and the owners know they can't always rely on youth. P.S Rodgers is aware of his and Suarez's goal-record together at Ajax.

I personally would like to see it, but i cant

Another overrated player.. Would demand very high wages..

Hi eds,

I have wondered about this for a while now and I hope one of you can answer this question. When we were looking to replace the outgoing Carroll, it was said that the owners refused to sanction a move for Dempsey because the price wasn't right and that the Sturridge deal needed to be permanent or else it wouldn't happen. So, if the funds were not available then, where would we find the money in January? Is it a case of reinvesting some revenu or are the owners going to invest some of their own money in January? I know it matters little in the end, but if you have the info it would be appreciated.

Canadian Fan {Ed002's Note - I rather suspect you have been misinformed about the funds. A player (Dempsey) was expected to come in but for whatever reason he didn't. Move on.}

Eds or posters:
Does anyone know what happened with the Dempsey deal ? The whole thing is strange , and I dont believe it was due to Ian Ayre incompetence that the deal fell through, I am sure there is more to it? anyone with any information/gossip etc ..?
(And yes I have moved on and was n't so bothered about that particular player, but just curious , and wondering if it may happen again)
Roy {Ed002's Note - It doesn't matter - move on.}

We gobbed off about the player, even went as far as posting we'd signed him on a site, we then removed said post, upset fulham, they wanted x for the player, it was more than we were willing to pay, then x was agreed elsewhere which was a lower sum of x, this upset us as we said we will not pay any more than anyone elses x and fulham said well tough, we shut up shop at 8 as we made a huge boo boo.

OK

Roy mate just check some Macca's post and you will get your answer. Reality is owners were against signing Dempesy but Rodgers was keen to get him so we offered them 2-3M and was rejected and we didnt up our offer. A lot of fans think Rodgers have got lots of money to spend on january. Again reality is we will look for striker in the region of 10-12M anything above it I will be really surprised

On coming out've Lower Centenary on Saturday, as normal.Heard some utter k ob,(and NOT a kid either)say-"The trouble is-we expect to beat Reading,especially as were at Home".
Yes were struggling, but the day you don't think you'll win those games(no disrespect-is the day your in a relegation battle) Have we fell THAT far? You simply should expect to, and SHOULD win those games!

We did win though.

22 Oct 2012 15:41:58
Jordan Henderson has told Brendan Rogers who wants to go out of loan to get first team football in January. Sunderland and West Brom did show interest in the summer transfer window.

Barry Hayles

Lets hope he does,sunderland and westbrom interested says it all.
not a bad player just like enrique no football brain.

22 Oct 2012 15:38:04
Anyone reckon we should give Yesil then Ngoo half a game each on Thursday. The most effective starts uptop v Everton with Suarez?

Neither will start against Everton it will probably be the same team that won against Reading, but yea we could give the both a half each on Thursday.

BigD

I think Beast! Ngoo should play against Anzi coming on as a super sub.

Team vs Anzi

Yesil
Assaidi, Pacheco, Downing
Henderson, Shelvey
Robinson, Carra, Coates, McLaughlin
Jones (reina recovering for everton)

Gulacsi, Sama, Enrique, Sahin, Gerrard, Suarez, Ngoo.

Why would Odemwinge come onto a liverpool rumours site? If you wanna find him I think you should try the west brom page

Ed, I know it's a long shot. Is LFC interested in Romelu Lukaku?

MY LFC Fan {Ed002's Note - No, and he is on a season long loan.}

RDM sees him as long term so its a defiant no no.

Eds,
Is it better to buy players like Sturridge who are struggling to get game time at Chelsea, or Walcott who is second fiddle to the Arsenal strikers or bring players in that are scouted from other countries.

I thought we proved with Hendo, Downing, Adam, Carroll etc, that proven English talent is still a risk.

English players (as a rule) suffer from a lack of technical ability. I know that there are exceptions to that, but do Sturridge or Walcott have great finishing prowess? Right now, that is what we need and I don't know if that's what they will bring to our club. {Ed002's Note - Sturridge has been ill with meningitis and then injured - so not struggling because of talent.}

Agree with comments. We need to find 2 strikers, use Yesil and Morgan and forget about other teams rejects. aklfc

Eds, if sturridge is available in january, which team will be interested other than us? spurs? {Ed002's Note - As of this time no one has approached Chelsea about him.}

We do not want players who can not even get in to our rivals teams we need players good enough to get in their teams.

We want chelsea and City rejects if they improve our squad. As a pragmatist i have no problem at all with this - we were 8th last year after all. Is Sturridge better than Borini, Yesil and Morgan? In my opinion yes so lets get him if the price is right.

Got my brothers ticket for the match on Sat. First time at Anfield for about 6 years. Personally I thought we were poor and the atmosphere was very poor too, what happened to the third man?. Dont think I will be accepting the ticket again. Sorry but this is my opinion.

Sure it was called the 12th man

A fan who doesn't want to go again because we were not brilliant, (we played well and could have scored 4 or 5), sounds like a bit of a gloryhunter to me. Tell your brother to give his ticket to a real fan in future.

22 Oct 2012 13:42:37
Sorry, I meant 12th man!!

You wouldn't accept a ticket to the game because the atmosphere was poor? You're there to support the team, not the fans. You sound like the type of 'fan' we can do without.

Doesn't take much to turn you off does it?

What happened to the third man,
watch the movie and find out,i don't want to spoil one of orson welles classics by giving away the ending..

red jay

Maybe the atmosphere was poor because there were too many part timers like you

12th man is a pub just past the kop

If you saw the third man you must have gone to Aigburth by mistake. The team that plays there (LCCC) actually managed to get relegated!

you do realise Assiadi is 24 not really one for the future he is a player for now

Yes but he needs time to properly adapt to the british game

Disappointed he hasn't had more game time recently, impressed me in the few matches he has played although sometimes his final ball could come quicker

Why buy these players at 24 years old if they need time to adapt. surely not cost effective

He cost 3 million and still has bags of potential, so yer he is cost effective

Will people please realise that the premier league season starts in august and finishes the following may, assiadi once settled will play and start more games than not

Are SLR cameras allowed into anfield?
Im asking as im going to the Newcastle game and wondered if it would be ok to bring my camera into the ground to take some pics before kick off.

Depends on the size of the lense. no telephoto's for example.

Its just the basic standard lens that comes with it and also i have a slightly larger zoom lens.

Dont think it should be a problem, my missus takes her slr with an 80mm lens when we go. on the turnstile they whecked the camera and no problems. may be a hassle if you have 300mm plus lens.
safa

Yes your allowed

I've seen a few postings suggesting SG play as one of the front 3. But surely he could effectively move into the back 4 with the style of football we want to play. After all, if someone the size of a hobbit like Macher can play there for Barca then I'm sure SG could do a good job there for us. With Lucas back (or another strong DM) this would allow SG to break forward on ocassions something that we don't tend to do too often from the central defenders position.

There have been a few good midfielders who have moved into a defence role as the legs have got older.

Discuss

samp

2 words Daniel Agger

SG will have to find somewhere, as BR's preferred three for midfield (according to his quote to Shelvey when he pulled him to one side on being Liverpool) is Lucas Allen and Shelvey...next ten years apparently..

Marshy

SG needs to play closer to Suarez and help out the attack. SG has the brain to do this and should not be expected to cover every blade of grass. aklfc

Gerrard now aint mobile enough for attack, 2/3 years ago when we had injuries maybe but he could play back 4 or infront of back 4

Br can say any thing to players like shelvey he has to make them think they are better than they are but shelvey needs a massive change in my opinion to be good enough to be in a championship chasing team.

22 Oct 2012 11:41:39
What on Earth has Sahin ever done to be quoted better than Gerrard?? Unbeleivable, i doubt he has even got the potential to be anything near Gerrard. I agree Gerrards best days are behind him but he has still got a lot left , its now down to the manager to get the best out of him for his last few years.

Surely it's down to the manager to get the best out of the team - if this gerrard misses out/has to adapt, then so be it. Likewise if Sahin is better suited, then he should play!

Hi Ed's - I was at the game on Saturday and have to say the support for the players and BR was phenominal. Again, we created so many chances but failed to convert them. Suarez being the main culprit. I really hope we bring in a prolific goalscorer in January and consider playing Suarez in the hole behind him...similar to how Beardsley played. At the moment BR seems unsure who is best suited to play the ACM role. Good to see Gerrard in a deeper midfield position, thought he looked better. Sterling was the outstanding player and looks mature for his age. I thought Johnson and Wisdom played well and pushed forward at every opportunity. We need to start killing games though, as Reading could have nicked a point after a nervy second half. But as others have said, a clean sheet and 3 points....YNWA

What about Shelvey.... Is he not ready to replace Gerard...

Shelvey is lucky to play for us never mind take gerrards place.

Initial post proves you went-bang on. unlike a lot've people on here. Even certain Ed's at times talk nonsense. Can always tell who goes and who does'nt by nature of post

22 Oct 2012 08:00:22
Just liked to put out that Allen played class this week, really looked like he tried to play very positive making more forward passes than usually.

Also, this defence has now kept 2 consecutive cleansheets.

YNWA. HullRED {Ed063's Note - In my opinion Allen has been class every week}

Have to agree with ed, people on here having jumping on his back for no reason and the lad can only get better.
RB {Ed063's Note - People seem to forget he is just 22 years old. And he is the leader in the midfield for us. Gerrard listens to him in the midfield, I can't believe the maturity he has shown for us. He has really made the step up from Swansea to Liverpool}

HE IS NO BETTER THAN SPEARING {Ed063's Note - Wow, you must be telling the truth if you bothered yourself enough to write it in caps. That makes it a lot more believable}

Jay, don't use caps!

Seems gerrard is learning from allen how to keep possession

Hi Ed063 - I disagree with you. I don't think that this nameless poster (yet another one!) was wearing a cap as he is without doubt TALKING OUT THE TOP OF HIS HEAD!
Ben Terug {Ed063's Note - Haha}

2 Clean Sheets against Stoke and Reading!

Lets see how we do against Anzhi, Everton, Swansea and Chelsea over the next few weeks!

Getting excited about a 1-0 win over reading ?
Oh dear.

Its a start, we would have had more cleans sheets except for stupid mistakes which hopefully look to have gone now.

Ed63 your opinion is no better tham mine CAPS or not

I am by no means an Allen hater, I think he's one of the best, if not THE best in our team at the moment, just pointing it out to the Allen moaning lot

HullRed

Ed63 offers nothing what so ever. Granted he/she gives up time to edit but your opinions are non valid. Can you tell us your age as you seem very immature. Do us all a favour and get on he player profiles page as you and Ed52 really love yourselves. i bow down to Ed1 and Ed2 who even when I do not agree make valid points and actually have info. By all means update he site, which we're all grateful but give your a$$ a rest

very disappointed by the win this weekend. {Ed063's Note - I do hope you are taking the mick}

I thought we played good

I think the op is one of the fa refs

We played well but looked a bit fragile against a poor Reading side. Early days though but I would hope we can batter those kind of teams later in the season instead of being thankful that we didn't concede one in the second half. Can't be disappointed with the result though and the performance was encouraging if not clinical

cozinoz

I think he meant disappointed by end score line,we have to be winning these games 3-4 nil with chances were creating,not 1 nil and the threat of them getting equalizer after wasting so many chances.rd

Look at what happend to us.

Can anyone tell me what happened to Conor Coady? I always thought he was one of the brightest lights, but he seems to have faded already. I mean, he hasn't got his first team opportunity yet.

Keith YNWA

Seems to have taken the Jay Spearing route, couldn't live up to potential, I see Adorjan making the step up before him, but in all honesty we will never really know unless we give the lad a chance. Would be devastated if he turned out to be another Ince/ Kacaniklic and turns out to be a great player.

AsianRed

What are you both talking about? Coady is still performing very well but our midfield is currently very strong in the first team so who would he replace?

Hey everybody. I want to make you all aware that the official Liverpool song for the Swedish supporters branch has today been released. It is called The Night When Heroes Are Made. It is written and performed by my brother Matt Meakin and has a guest appearance by former Liverpool player Glenn Hysén's son Anton. The song will be available for purchase on ITunes Store for 0.99 cents. 25 % of the proceeds will be donated to The Hillsborough Family Support Group and another 25% to the Swedish supporters branch. It's a tribute to the club and to the 96 who never made it home that day.

You can also have a listen a watch the new video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Scf8mRzc-m4

Hope you really enjoy it.

YNWA & JFT 96!

Sebastian Meakin
