With all new buys and Mourinho not liking big squads 'Guardian says', do you think we may have a chance of buying Moses who is young, speedy and should be desperate for first team football.
Also, do you have any more if anything on the Derby youngster?

Doing great Eds.
Many thanks and Regards. {Ed030's Note - I hope not,I don't think Moses would be much of an improvement on Downing if any,There is interest from Liverpool and lost of other clubs in Hughes. }

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Moses is awful, end of.

Agree0 Disagree0

Whatever the question is Moses is not the answer. Unless we are paying back Chelsea for giving us decent money for Benayoun & Meireles.

rather enjoying Chelseas guzzump of Tottenham re Willian, especially Mourinho's interview where he is clearly enjoying the situation and can't resist a few digs at Spurs. I must confess I have missed the special one in the English game :)

To any LFC supporting Eds out there. Been reading reports of Arda Turan and now Adem Ljajic. Who would you prefer out the 2 if true and possible? {Ed030's Note - I don't know,They are both talented players but Ljajic has attitude problems and considerably younger then Turan,I think the players who would most improve our first team at the moment would be Turan. }

Alright lads

I want your opinions on how u think our front 3 will line up if we don't sign anymore players, cout left sturridge cf Suarez right is obvious, but I've not once seen Suarez line up on the right side for us. If you watch last game aspas was very good at getting back an helping Johnson, some how I don't see Suarez ever being in that right back position helping out, or will it be a front 4 of Suarez left, coutinho AM aspas right, sturridge CF? If so again we'd have problems with Suarez getting back on the left aswell. I just don't see how Suarez an sturridge can play in the same team without us being over run at the back! Thoughts? Ed 30 jump in here! {Ed030's Note - Aspas left,Henderson inn the middle and Coutinho left if we fail to bring someone who can play on the left in. }

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Bring back suso if we don't haha

Hi Eds, not transfer related but 2 questions for you if you would be so kind. Who, in your opinion, do you think is being lined up as the 1st choice LB, Enrique or Cissoko? And after Ibe, from our current crop of youngsters not on loan, who would your best guess to get a chance in the first team?

Many thanks {Ed030's Note - 1) I think Cissokho will gradually work his way to be first choice,Probably Texiera,Has massive potential. }

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thanks Ed30, much appreciated

Arsenal opened talks with RM over Di Maria for 26m.

Di Maria is a left winger and would be ideal for LFC in the left of a front three.

Hope LFC make a move

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think he is overrated to be honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's a right winger.

Agree0 Disagree0

Definitely not overrated, very good player. Proven it in La Liga and the Champions League in big big games.

Agree0 Disagree0

He isn't what we need. He doesn't track back at all and is also widely known as the weak link in Real's attack.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed. Not seen all the games he's played. But all the games I have seen him play not once has he been a match winner or been star of the show, or even score
Don't doubt he's good but wouldn't say he's great

Agree0 Disagree0

Can I just say that he's worse then Suarez when it comes to staying on his feet .

Agree0 Disagree0

Always plays on the right when I watch Madrid.

Is there any possibilities in victor Fischer no1 has really enquired about him and he would jump at the chance to come to us, edd can somebody please tell me why we haven't went in for Eric lamela if we are looking for a marque signing bonus that he young Aswell, last 1 I saw people speaking about do Maria but this is personal opinion, even if suarez was not to go to Real Madrid if tottenham don't have him included in the deal he would want out of the club him self knowing he won't get much. Game time and with him being at a big club for so long at a young age he wouldn't even hesitate if Liverpool came in would be a completely different path, and atleast when we get him we won't have to worry about him going barcalona or Real Madrid haha {Ed002's Note - Viktor Fischer is subject to interest from Milan, Manchester United, Manchester City, Roma and Werder Bremen. Ajax is negotiating a new contract with him and I would not expect a move in the summer. Lamela has been done to death.}

Reports in Brazil says that Liverpool are after brazilian attacking midfielder Roberto Firmino. {Ed002's Note - I rather doubt it - and might be a while before he got a work permit.}

Hi eds,

With all these names floating around, what players do you think are the most likely to be signed before 2nd september? {Ed002's Note - You could read the posts but as being a great fan of Morning Glory seeds back in the seventies, I can tell you that I think that Liverpool will take a chance with Arda and will try and strike a deal with Ilori. Else, they might take a little something that I explained (earlier) just might come out of Real Madrid.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think that is a great question sickmick. I would go after him hard. He would be a legend at LFC. He is a fantastic player and will only get better and better.

Ed02 reading the posts recently over Arda you've not really thought of Arda moving to Liverpool how come you think we might take the risk on him now has anything happened to make you believe this in terms of the clubs? Cheers for any answer looking forward to finding who you think Madrid will offer if you do unveil it. Not long to go before a bit of a break but until then cheers for all the info {Ed002's Note - How did you get that from the words "I can tell you that I think that Liverpool will take a chance with Arda and will try and strike a deal with Ilori"?}

Hi reds & eds.

Just wondering who you guys would prefer Micah Richards Or Mamadou Sakho? Could both be available for as little as £10 million each? Richards is a beast I think but, either would be a good option. One of these plus Arda Turan Would be a great end to the window.

Thanks {Ed002's Note - You might well be fantasying over the costs - certainly given that PSG have quoted a price to an interested side over Sakho.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sakho all day long, as he is a good defender, Richards is the new Titus Bramble.

hi eds, hope your well. just a query really. I have seen you have mentioned various times about "guaranteed playing time "in negotiations, with reguards to players wanting to play for a new club as opposed to being a squad player . can you maybe elaborate on what this actually is and how it works? I mean is a manager contractually obliged to play a player even if his form drops? enlighten me please! keep up the good work! {Ed002's Note - Players will seek assurances that they will be a first pick for the team or the match day squad. They don't want to be running out with the reserves for a year before getting a chance.}

I expect Lucas to be absoloutely vital in the game tomorrow.
The counter attack style that Aston Villa play will make Lucas shine in our midfield. He will break up their attacks and start our own.

Hi, I trust we are all enjoying the start of the season.
I've noticed a lot of concern over our depth at lm/lw and at dm. Now obviously BR would like 2 in each position especially a good attacking option on the left. As things stand I think BR is going to use SG as cover for LL if injured at dm and will ask JH to step into SG role as cm. As for the left side if we fail to get another player in prior to deadline I think we will see JE become the back up option if there's injuries when we play teams who BR thinks are too strong currently for RS or JI. Just an opinion I apparently had to share with you all as apparently the missus couldn't give a crap.
Mandatory thanks to the eds for their good work.
Regards all and can't wait for villa.

I can't remember the name of the poster who asked. However over on the Liverpool Blogs and Voting Polls section, you can find another player review on Dusan Tadic and Georginio Wijnaldum as requested. I reviewed Christian Eriksen as an added bonus as he seems to be a favourite of some here.

Eds and reds,
Does it look likely that Liverpool will buy a centre back and winger in this transfer window?
Or will we be buying these players in January like we did with Sturridge and Coutinho last time? {Ed002's Note - There is no planning for buying in January.}

i still think willian would come to us if we matched spurs and chelseas offer, he said he wanted to come to us and just maybe he would have been the player that makes us a top 4 side, its a pity we won't pay the price for him only time will tell if we have made a mistake in not signing him, but we still need a CB, def-midielder and a left winger, but we know enrique can play in the left wing position of maybe the new loan signing will play on the left wing, but it would be stupid if we did not get sakho or papa, I would rater us get sakho because he can be cover lucas, for me we need a experienced CB because toure will show us what we have been missing he could be our signing of the season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Papa can cover DM better than sakho

Chelsea will pay more wages
Chelsea are in Champions league
Chelsea will pay his agents exorbitant fee.

He will go to Chelsea.

Question about stadium building.

Liverpool council have approved Anfield to be listed as an Asset of Community Value.

Does this mean it's almost untouchable to redevelope? Like a listed property?

Will this cause problems for the already slow moving new stadium?

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what it means but it will not stop any of the planned work once approved.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I live on oakfield road, and from the letters I've read I've gathered that the Liverpool council want the owners to regenerate the area aswell which your post saounds like

Agree0 Disagree0

It means that in order to develop the area they have to have an approved plan that will show clear benefit to the community .
i.e it has to show that it will bring additional revenue, Jobs and opportunity to the area .

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks 002 buddy

Agree0 Disagree0

It has nothing to do with LFC and it does not affect redevelopment.

All it means is if Liverpool FC decide to sell Anfield, whomever has requested it be an asset of community value (usually a local community group, but not an individual) they will have a reasonable amount of time to make a bid for it. It dos not mean they have to sell to them, it means they have to be given a chance to put in a bid.

For example, if Spurs decide to buy Anfield from LFC tomorrow, LFC has to allow this local community group time to bid for it as well, they can't just accept Spurs bid straight away. {Ed002's Note - Reasonable protection from Spurs - good call.}

Agree0 Disagree0

The only protection from spurs . after that post I am fearful that twitter with people accusing Spurs of trying to by our stadium now aswell as players we are linked with .

Hi Ed's

Again like always I don't know any special info just a thought but I one of the ed's commented that a possible situation with luis would be that Madrid could send a couple players our way. Would it be possible for us to maybe get Di Maria plus 25-30 and then use that to get Turan. I know the chances of this are prob slim to none but to me this would be the best and maybe only oprion I think that would make us a better team. We would be getting a top winger who has goals in them and enough money to fund a move for turan who I know nothing about but from reading posts would be a great signing.

Thanks Ed's for being the stress button of footy transfers even though it probably causes the opp effect on you guys.

YNWA {Ed002's Note - I really don't see Di Maria as likely right now.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2013 17:31:15
Shame as a front 4 of Turan, Sturridge, Di Maria and Coutinho in behind, in my opinion is equal to if not better than any other PL side.

I know the ed's aren't convinced it will happen but I personally would love 2 wide attacking players to be signed in the case of Suarez being moved on, or at least to see the Suarez money reinvested somewhere in the team.

Just a few questions on the U21 squad. I've been to see them play a few times and i'm so impressed with jack dunn. He seems to have a great drive and eye for a goal how far is he off the first team Eds.

I also wondered if players like Sama who I rate will go out on loan? {Ed001's Note - Dunn was held back by long term injury, he spent most of last season just getting back into playing again. Towards the end of the season he pushed himself forward as a possible back up player, similar to the role Sterling and Ibe have. I expect it more likely he will have a loan spell than get into the first team just yet though, as he is just behind those two and we are looking to buy another similar player for his position.
Sama is available for loan, not heard of any move in the offing though.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi ed001

wasnt jack dunn a midfielder and as you said he pushed himself forward, last season when I watched after his long injury he was reallly good and got a few goals {Ed001's Note - I meant pushed himself forward as in to the fore, rather than just played further up field. He did play a more attacking role though, mostly on the right of the 3 forwards and looks good there.}

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO he's better in an attacking midfield role which he has played a few times for the youth teams, wasted on the wings.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed001 how highly does the club rate Suso and Texeira?
I am asking this because I said yesterday I feel the club wasted a good 6M on Luis Alberto and some posters started bashing. Its not that I think the lad is a bad player but he was simply not needed especially with us having Suso and Texeira in the Acadamy. We could have better used that 6M to get a quality DM back-up to Lucas as we simply don't have a decent DM coming through the Acadamy. What do you reckon? {Ed001's Note - both are extremely highly rated, but are slightly different to Alberto. It must be remembered that we usually go with two midfielders in front of a dm, so there is space for all 3.}

Just wondering, in recent times, how many times have we bought established world class players? I can only think of Aquilani(spelling) and Joe Cole, maybe Kewell and Cisse?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lol Nice Try!

Agree0 Disagree0

If you're including kewell and cisse as already being stars. Then. Suarez Torres toure johnson mignolet Henderson downing. Just of top of my head

Agree0 Disagree0

If your calling them world class established players then I think we have signed quite a few.

Agree0 Disagree0

Morientes was my biggest upset, expected really big things from him!

Agree0 Disagree0

Define World Class? It doesn't mean anything. The only sensible suggestion I can make would be select a 22 man squad of humans to play an intergalactic team of aliens. Therefore at any one time there are (by definition) only ever 22 players who qualify to be described so boldly. At one point in time you could have laid claim that Reina, Alonso, Gerrard & Torres were all world class. None could have been considered so when we bought them. Would Suarez make a world 22? Possibly to mainly Liverpool fans but if it was a free vote for all football fans I would doubt it with Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Falcao, Van Persie, Lewandowski having better claims and less baggage.

I'll ponder my selections. {Ed002's Note - Do it as a new post so it can go on the teams page please.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah morientes is another one Keith. I admit I was a bit loose with classing cisse and kewell as established players but I was asked it the other day and Aqua and Cole where the only two I could think of.

Agree0 Disagree0

Litmanen was world class. The manager wasted him at LFC I'm afraid.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think we've turned most into world class haven't we. We don't often buy the finished article.
Morientes is a good shout and maybe Karl Heinze Riedle. Even Diouf was in Peles top 50.
Ill go on players who are established names in world football playing for top European sides or many international caps adding to those three.
Keane, Voronin, Toure all either won many medals and played for top sides and won plenty of international caps and applause. Even Kozma (remember him?) was a mega celeb in his home country and captain but I'll still go with us turning players into WC category rather than buying.

Times have changed and we need to get back on top sooner rather than later if you're trying to make a point about marquee signings. You cannot buy £300k strikers from Chester or exciting wingers from Watford for £800k anymore and expect to win titles

Agree0 Disagree0

Markus Babbel, Christian Ziege, Karl Hienze Riedle, Bernard Diomede, Nicolas Anelka, Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres, Pepe Riena, Alvaro Arbaloa, Djibril Cisse, Javier Machcerano, Emanua Insus, Rigobert Song, Salif Diao, El Hadje Diouf amongst others all won medals at International level be it World Cup, Euros, Olympics, Afican Nations, Copa America ect, so would this class them as world class?, what about Champions League winners?

Agree0 Disagree0

Gary Mcallister!

Agree0 Disagree0

JohnThReds list makes my point for me! If those players are all world class it means nothing at all.

Once again more of a question than a rumour, but I was wondering if the Eds have any insight into how much roughly is / was available for transfers this window?

At current reported levels of income vs expenditure, we are actually up £5mil after selling Carroll, Shelvey, Downing, Spearing, etc, and so was wondering what was left in the kitty for the new defensive and attacking options we are currently looking at?

If the figure is by chance around £30mil, that combined with the £5mil current profit, and the potential £10mil for Skrtel that Napoli were offering would mean £45mil to buy two centre halves and add some more fire power to the front line.

So. would the following be possible:
Eriksen and Alderwood form Ajax for £15mil
Sakho from PSG for £8mil
And Arda Turan from Athletico for £22mil

{Ed002's Note - You would do best to ignore all of the financial stuff. The price for Arda is defined - the rest you have made up.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would expect/guess that transfers this window will be revenue neutral. Although the 2012-2013 accounts aren't published yet, we're probably in for another £25M to £30M loss last year (May to May).

Projecting into this year which is often difficult to do but kind of an interesting exercise, wage bill may be down a bit along with amortization of player registrations, but overall we're probably on the same trajectory as the previous year with the differences being no exceptional expenses for management staff or Joe Cole payments but also no additional revenue from Europa. Add in increase in TV revenue and I think for 13-14 we could just about break even but that assumes we stay fairly revenue neutral this summer and winter in the transfer market.

Just my guess, anyway, and I think that is what the owners are shooting for from a financial perspective for this FY. {Ed002's Note - The new TV revenue money may well be in the 14-15 FY.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Premier league prize money may well be 14/15 but the TV revenue will surely be spread between now & close of season? {Ed002's Note - It is the money that comes mainly at the end of the season and will typically be used to funds the transfers. Clubs who have borrowed against future years money include Portsmouth and Leeds.}

Agree0 Disagree0

There is of course the expense of Rodgers and his crew from Swansea. £5.5 million, in the region of.

Agree0 Disagree0

That should be covered as an exception in the 12-13 FY release, Rover. Along with the Cole payment, I should think.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree.

Here are the relevant quotes from today's press

Q: "So he'll sign?" With a smile, 'I don't like to talk too early.'

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think we have a number1 priority in think we need tree priority players mainly center half and left side attacker also cover for lucas although doesn't seem likely

Skrtel is staying, hopefully will find them form of two years ago. Toure is awesome in the air.

I usually only use the banter page but at last an aqaintance of my dad who is connected with our beloved club has told my dad to wait till the last day of the market for a double bid which has in principal been agreed the reason for waiting seems to be that whenever a player who is regarded as already established and is stereotyped as a marquee signing then other teams who can offer champions league or happy to pay ridiculous agent fees get involved now I will add this person also said that siggurdson would only sign for us last season and that turned out rubbish but who knows and finally I won't say the players I have been told that would be daft I am really excited but could be rubbish and they don't play in holland I for one would of loved erickson but it appears he is not interested roll on deadline day like I say it could be rubbish it could be top 4 material what ever happens the club are talking about quality signings now not qauntity

With Rodgers claiming it's too late in the window for Suarez to leave because there's no time to replace him, is it realistic for Liverpool to secure a part cash/swap deal. Di Maria is a player who would excite fans. I don't see Spurs as a more attractive option for him just because of Europa league. On the other hand, getting Benzema would out-maneuvre Arsenals attempts to get him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I like him as our manager but BR says a lot of things. I do not think its too late. Why would it be?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ask Rodgers! As I said, it's what Rodgers 'claimed'. but doesn't make it true. All the same, getting a couple of players like that would be good business.

Hi Eds.

You say a LW coming in is nothing to do with suarez, but if suarez stays I would have thought he would play LW to accommodate Sturridge to play in the middle? Then we have our boys Sterling & Ibe as back-ups. {Ed002's Note - What I said was don't try and intertwine any comings and goings. I think a lot of the posts sit there with little sheets of paper with players names on them.}

Intrigued by us being linked to Leandro Damiao. A player I personally rate exceedingly highly, and while I understand we are obviously not exactly anywhere near a deal, he is someone I would love to join, but do note I say this not in expectation of him joining, but in anticipation.
One question, were he to join, with the formation we play, what happens with Sturridge? Surely they'd both have to start, so who gets pushed out wide? I know Sturridge can play there well, but doesn't like to, and Damiao seems like too much of an out and out striker to be put out wide. Opinions eds/posters?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He isn't very good though, not even getting a good return of goals in brazil, had potential 3 years ago but really has disappointed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree Ben Rose. I think Sturridge is better and more versatile.

Hey eds everyone is saying that if arsenal buy benzema around 40 million then real madrid will try to sign suarez.

But don't you think if they want to replace benzema it is easy to make a swap of benzema and suarez involving 15 to 20 million cash. {Ed002's Note - No.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Maybe its just me but I do not think Benzema would be a great signing and I may be wrong but has he not got a bad attitude and ability to drift in and out of games?

Madrid to make a late bid for Suarez, so says the Guardian and twitter is alight with this etc. Shock horror. Where have these people been.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I did say when Arsenal were bidding for Suarez that I expect RM to come in late and try and get him on the cheap. They will be aware that Liverpool "quietly" want rid of him. I think they will get him cheaper than people think too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Syd
You've been blabbing for months now about Suarez going to X, Y, or Z.
On one thing I will agree with you, however.
If Madrid do bid, it will not be any £60m.
They'll be trying to foist off a reject or two to us as part payment.
Which I trust Liverpool will completely reject.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would like to know which players they will try to offload as players like Di Maria, Benzema etc will not want to join Liverpool. They have Champions League ambitions and Benzema is completely out of Liverpool wage range. I guess it will be perhaps Jese Rodriguez, Casemiro perhaps? Perhaps Morata on loan? I think there is a chance someone like PSG will sign Benzema and the cash will be made available for Suarez. I cannot see them offering more than Arsenal did though. They would also expect to pay in installments. {Ed002's Note - There are three players that, for now, might well be offered up as part of a transaction. I really do not want to get in to discussing them today.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Jese rodriguez is a super player I wouldn't say no, even for a yr.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair play Ed. Can I ask if you are expecting a mass flurry of activity once Bale joins RM officially? Thanks. {Ed002's Note - It is really nothing to do with Bale. Real Madrid are looking to make an offer.}

Ed000 is the alpha and omega, the creator, the architect and the engineer. Eons ago he was heralded as a God amongst Editors, from which all Eds draw their lineage, but age has seen him fall into myth and legend. Now Ed000 is mostly forgotten now, but through his chosen followers, the legend can and will live on.

That's right isn't it Eds? All the eds have prophetic dreams and callings to become Eds, sacrificing their old lives and names.

So who do we turn to now? Lots of names being touted around who our next transfer target will be after losing out on Willian. Where does our interest lie and what areas are we looking to strengthen after BR saying we need to spend to compete this season

Ideally a forward who can play across the front 3 primarily LW like Willian, another CM to push and cover for Lucas and a CB following Coates Injury is what I feel we need to really push on this season, but we need to bring in players who will strengthen the starting 11 not just squad players to add depth

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Arda Turan for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Isnt Allen is cover for Lucas?

Agree0 Disagree0

The sooner we accept that there will be no new signings, the sooner we can move on with our lives and just enjoy the football. Transfer window - it's just not worth the pain

Agree0 Disagree0

We've signed 7 players since January. 12 since Brendan took over. We've promoted 4 players from the Academy to play on a regular basis. Brendan says he wants a squad of 24/25 first team players. He's therefore changed more than 50% of the squad in just over 12 months. When will some people be happy? At some point we need a settled team/squad.

I'm open to reviewing more players for anyone else out there. Currently on the request list is Tadic and Wijnaldum. Hi Ed how many more players realistically do you think we will get in between now and the end of the window. {Ed002's Note - One or two.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If its too late to let Suarez go then surely it's too late for other teams to sell to us? {Ed002's Note - If you trust the words of the Tubby One, then yes. Nobody will do any more business in the next 10 days.}

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2013 11:32:46
Hopefully Sakho and Turan. We should of gone for those 2 before all this Willian fiasco. Especially Turan who (I'm sure would come) would fit right in as LW and about 10M cheaper! {Ed002's Note - Sakho has been on the list of targets for many clubs over the past year or so - Monaco, Arsenal and Lyon have sustained interest in Sakho and there has been some interest from Newcastle, Inter Milan, Manchester City and even possible interest lingering interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona. Baader has explained that AC Milan and Liverpool have recently enquired about his availability - but at that time PSG were not keen on selling and the player was then keen to stay. However, Laurent Blanc remains concerned about his attitude and would be willing to let him move on - that could be facilitated after the departure of Leonardo who had been lending him support. Would be an excellent buy for Liverpool if Agger or Skrtel were to move on, and not out of the question - but no offer has been made by the club whilst AC Milan are actively pushing for a deal. Napoli are also considering Sakho as an alternative to Alderweireld but have been put off by the asking price - they might still seek a loan.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Sakho and Turan would be my choice as well now.
I suspect we are waiting for a windfall of some sort before we make an effort to sign them or another CB and attacker.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Ed, Have you not seen him recently, he has slimmed down, can't really call him the tubby one anymore!
Anyway, you keep calling Rodgers regarding his comments to the press, Is there not somebody at Liverpool who should be advising him in what to say? Or what not to say?

{Ed002's Note - He has put on weight and got some larger clothes. Liverpool's PR guru screwed up more than Rodgers.}

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2013 10:57:53
What did you think of BRs comments about our transfer targets being 'maybe too ambitious'.

I thought that was a very dumb statement for a manager of LFC.

Are we being too ambitious now for even trying to sign top players? If so, then it says a lot about how far the mighty has fallen.

However, finishing 8th & 7th in the last 4 seasons does show a depressing drop in success.

Maybe when we get turned over by Aston Villa and Utd. KBL

{Ed002's Note - I suspect the Tubby One was referring to players not being keen to move to a club not playing in European competition rather than Liverpool not trying to sign players.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree with this post.

Agree0 Disagree0

The only thing that worried me is that it's ambitious for us yet spurs nearly pulled it off {Ed002's Note - You are missing the point of an acceptable offer being made.}

I've got a feeling Real Madrid are going to come in with an offer for Suarez. I'd say it will probably be about £60m but I still don't think Liverpool will accept unless they are offered some top quality players in the deal.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why would they bid that high?
The opening bid will probably only be a few million more than arsenals.
That's if they are offering only cash and not as I suspect a player or 2 in the deal as well. {Ed002's Note - If they can, they will look to include a player, perhaps on loan, as part of the deal.}

Agree0 Disagree0

LFC would snap their hand off at £60m

Agree0 Disagree0

Never in a million years, they will open the bidding with half that and a three legged donkey as part exchange

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2013 10:30:33
Hi. With the likes of Willian choose tottenham over us can we see LFC bid another attacking player? Latest comment made by BR it seems LFC to prioritize a defender rather than an attacker.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think you are parroting some tired claims about RMs supposed brilliance in the transfer market. They are just about to pay 94m for Gareth Bale who is less than half the player CR7 is. We have Suarez under contract and we want a club record fee which is close to Cavani valuation. Therefore any deal will need to work out at 50m & £1 minimum (players included or not) Looking at their squad there aren't that many players we would naturally be that interested in bar Morata (perm) and Jese (loan).

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2013 10:11:56
Real Madrid are lining up a £60m pound bid for Luis Suarez after they complete the £93m deal for Gareth Bale.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Great. I hope he enjoys his new club as much as we will enjoy the 60 million. Won't be able to spend it til January, but if was going to miss 6 games anyway. If we can stay healthy, I think the current squad (plus another addition or two in next 10 days) can be in good position come xmas, then sign top player in january for push for top 4 in second half of season. Brilliant.

Agree0 Disagree0

On the assumption that you are correct Stevie G, a £60 Million bid would definitely create an interesting situation re the owners, the manager and the supporters.

Even though John Henry came out and said Suarez was not for sale, I've always held the opinion that if a high enough bid from Real Madrid (or any European club) came in, then he would be sold . too good an offer to refuse, can't keep an unhappy player, etc, etc.

So, if/when he is sold, will time allow for a replacement(s)? in truth while there are plenty of players out there I doubt that any player that we may or may not bring in won't come with that "hint of desperation" attached.

Further, if a "replacement" cannot be sourced in time and we are left short creating a similar scenario as last summer then how will Rodgers and in turn the supporters assess the situation? will they sit quietly and patiently and accept it, or will they take the view that the owners may not be entirely committed to the cause, especially if they are already of the opinion that enough hasn't been done to acquire the quality signings needed to finish fourth.

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely we'd take £60m even if it were last day and couldn't replace.

I'd say take it and spend up in Jan. But then I'm not FSG.

Agree0 Disagree0

For £60 million I would sell him and go for Damiao, Alderwield and Eriksen or Turan.
Great improvement on the squad as well as replacing a goal scorer with a goal scorer.

Agree0 Disagree0

It will be stupid for us to sell suarez this late in the window. We will get mugged if we sell and try to get a replacement. Andy Carroll all over again. I don`t see it happening, Defo next season tho.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dream on, if they truthfully offered us that sort of money we would be fools to not accept it. even if we don't have a replacement.

Interesting.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed. You can question the wisdom of that conference, but sure as hell after the Willian deal fell through, he came home, had a big glass of red and bitched to the missus about his day at work. There’s still time and a lot of business is going to be conducted between now and the end of the window for many clubs. I guess he’s just feeling a little bruised right now. Matt

Don't get me wrong, I'm behind FSG 100% (although not literally), but it must be frustrating as a manager.

I'm sure there's more twists 'n' turns.

Agree0 Disagree0

Unfortunately for me I think they've been learning from Arsenal - keep saying that we are going to spend and that we can strenghten where we want to, but seemingly no action.
My worry would be if we do sell Suarez, how much of that will be spent?

I can't help feeling we are being lined up to be an attractive purchase.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think FSG policy is refreshing.
LFC, and many EPL teams, are being 'ripped off' by greedy agents.
FSG have made a stand and in the long term, this will be to LFC's benefit.
We don't want the club bankrupted by greed of others {Ed002's Note - Right. To put this in to perspective, the spending on agents fees alone since FSG arrived is about £30M.}

Agree0 Disagree0

JoK
Would love to agree, but as Gary Neville stated it's a different game, and you have to "swim with the sharks"
All this posturing and not paying over the odds won't do us any good when we are miles off top four as we won't spend what other teams do.
We'll be shopping in Lidl whilst they shop at Waitrose.

Agree0 Disagree0

Short term agree, but long term if we buy more Contrinho's, Ibes, Sturridge, etc, young stars of the future at good prices who are hungry, not mercenary, I think long term we will be in a better place.
LFC, like all businesses, has a budget and has to work within it.
As you say, the 'sharks' just piggy back our scouting system and then 'guzzump us'.
That may come back to haunt some clubs.
Time will tell, but I support Liverpool Football Club and I am proud of the club
Come on you Reds!

Ed02 do you know any players who have had their dream moves wrecked by their agents fees before? {Ed002's Note - I am not so sure about "dream" moves but there are plenty of examples of transfers that have failed due to the fees being requested by agents, representatives, intermediaries, others who no one has heard of etc.. Deals for Kaka to Manchester City, Neymar to Chelsea last summer, Gignac to Arsenal in 2009, Nasri's move to Manchester City nearly collapsed because of such fees - as did Soldado's move to Spurs. There are lots of examples.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Willian was never going to sign for us imo, I think he used us and spurs to get a move to chelsea or someone similar, he is not worth 30 million plus 5 for his agent and I think we dodged a bullet but I do agree we need more players before the window shuts . {Ed002's Note - Willian would not be signing for Liverpool as the club did not offer enough money - the player was not using Liverpool.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe there should be a cap on fees? {Ed002's Note - In a way there is, but there are many potential complexities.}

His ego`s just bruised right now and is having a hard time hiding his frustration. A win on sat and all will be well.

Hi Ed, hopefully this post will get through and published. I've used the search function but couldn't find direct answers. I've noticed the 'smokescreen' term hasn't been used much during this transfer window so perhaps we're all reading into the Willian stories too much and seeing him as a 'nailed on' target when we're actually going for our long term target of Arda Turan. Personally I was hoping for this to happen a few seasons back when his name first started popping up. I think that Turan will be the answer to our left sided goalscoring/assisting winger that we so desperately need? If we can throw in Assaidi as a part exchange then everyone's a winner. Even though I think Assaidi had a lot to offer but never really got the chance. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks in advance!

{Ed002's Note - So you think that Liverpool's master plan is to make a bid for a Brazilian player from a Dagestani club that plays in the Russian League to hide their interest in a Turkish player who plays for a club in the Spanish league - who is available at a non-negotiable fixed fee and would likely welcome a move to Liverpool? In the mean time, another EPL club has taken the opportunity to make an approach for the Turkish player. As for Assaidi, the interest of Stoke in the player are a smokescreen for a late cheeky £12M bid for Suarez that invokes a recently found clause in his contract which will see him move if any Staffordshire based club makes such a bid. One wonders if Port Vale are also pondering a bid, and if they might include Lee Hughes as a makeweight and ideal replacement in the offer?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Bang on Ed 2. I just can't figure out how Robert Huth fits into it. {Ed002's Note - I suspect you would still get good odds of Bobby Huth being Liverpool's player manager at the start of next season.}

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2013 11:51:38
Ed, what's your personal opinion about Arda Turan? And Assaidi needs to go. the bit I saw of him at the Afcon last year was appalling.

{Ed002's Note - There is sustained interest in Arda Turan from Germany with both Bayern Munich and Schalke 04 declaring they would like to take the player and from his former club Galatasaray. Both Chelsea and Monaco enquired after the player earlier in the summer and Monaco has made two bids. An enquiry has also been made by Arsenal and Liverpool has spoken with his agent. Atletico Madrid previously rejected a move from Schalke saying they did not want to sell in January and even now they would ideally like to keep him for at least another year still. However, a bid of €24M would be enough to satisfy his club.

My personal opinion is that Liverpool will make an offer for Arda Turan in the coming days, but they should be very wary of not just paying the required €24M fee and looking to enter in to negotiations.

As I understand it, the plan remains for Assaidi to leave, but it might well just be on loan.}

Apart from Sakho and Arda Turan to add quality to our team but I think we really need to push for Damiao now because when Real Madrid come knocking soon its bye bye Suarez

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We will buy only 1 more attacking player, who will replace Suarez.

Agree0 Disagree0

Turan would be excellent buy and for £20.5M GBP its a good price, you get work rate, good stamina, goals, assists and dribbling ability with him, he would love to join us and would be immensely proud to wear our shirt on his back.

Sakho would be good at anything below £12M in my view as he is a very good young player, although I feel it will be Ilori for £6M who is also a good young player I just hope whoever we buy it does not ruin the development of Wisdom & Kelly who Rodgers has said are future CB'S as he feels that's there best positions.

Damiao is available for the right price reportedly £18M - £22M GBP, Now Real Madrid have finally come out about Suarez it looks likely that we will sell regardless of what Rodgers & Henry have said weather it will be straight cash or cash & players i'm not sure but we have already rejected a £40M bid for him and have said it will take £55M to get him although I believe it will be closer to £45M plus Morata or possible Jesse, Damiao is a good player and would get regular 1st team football which he would require as its world cup year, problem is his best position is striker, and that's where Sturridge plays and I don't think he would be happy at being pushed out wide so unless we change our formation than I don't see us going for Damiao although i'd love him to join us as he certainly will get the goals and him Sturridge & Coutinho would be very lively.

Also reports are saying we have agreed a deal in the region of £10M for Will Hughes of Derby, in my view he is a good young player but we already have Henderson & Allen who are trying to get into the team and they are both better than him so he would have to be loaned out to Derby for the season and then perhaps a Epl team next season before trying to force his way into out team as he is too good to be playing U21 Football.

Agree0 Disagree0

No, I think Arda plus Sakho would be good enough for me. We can add another player in January with the Suarez money. Perhaps there will be a star at one of the over stocked clubs that would be looking to play some games (Mata? Ozil? who knows)

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2013 11:49:26
In which case, AG, that will represent a poor transfer window, for me.
I will be gutted if Liverpool let Suarez go this late on.
Madrid still owe payment on Modric, now Bale as well?
I know they will sell a player or two, but how can they afford Suarez too?
How many seasons can payment for a transfer fee be spread over now? {Ed002's Note - Real Madrid have the highest turnover of any club in the world.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Glenbuck

I will be disappointed too if Suarez goes and we bring in only 1 attacking player as his replacement, but that's the way it looks.

Feeling a bit if De Ja Vu after Rodgers comments. Nothing spent yet. Clear where we need players to improve first team. Players of this level Turan and Sakho available and want to move to LFC now without CL football. No bids.
Think we will be on here like last window end stund this is it and BR having to face the press while FSG stay state side.

Two players Turan Sakho covering the LW and CB Rodgers wants. FSG have no excuses if they cannot compete as Werner promised they should go not Rodgers when we miss Europe again

{Ed002's Note - All he has done is yet again made a bit of an ass of himself with the media. Ever since he uttered the words about not discussing Suarez again until he is available to play what has he done? Right, talked about Suarez. No time to get a replacement in? There window is still open for 10 days and other clubs are going to do significant business. Rodgers still needs to hone these media skills - it is all rather embarrassing. But it keeps feeding the press.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Pretty much all managers like their own voice a bit too much for my liking, but we shouldn't be believing all what BR or for that matter, most managers say to the press.

I bet Tom Werner is regretting his comments about "We can compete with anyone" now. What BR cannot complain is about FSG's support to him. FSG have yet again allowed money for BR to sign players and now, in 3 windows, he has signed players costing close to £84 million!

Agree0 Disagree0

He is clearly trying to keep the value of the player as high as possible.

If something isn't for sale it generally costs more to prise it away, what do you want him to do? Also if he wasn't badgered by the press about Suarez then he'd never had stated he wouldn't talk about him until available again. {Ed002's Note - So you agree is handling of the media is laughable and embarrassing.}

Agree0 Disagree0

In regards to FSG I think they would have thought twice about buying Liverpool if they know what they know now about the cost involved in running the club. As for Rodgers I think he is talking s**t. The club will sell Suarez to real i'm pretty sure of it. The problem is can he attract top players to come here instead of hiding behind lack of finances once he is flush with the Suarez money. 10 days in the transfer window is a pretty long time. He should have already had targets in mind if plan a, b or c failed. Also he says that some players want champions league well he could not even get us in to Europa league that is just pathetic with a club our size and the players he had so maybe he needs to look in the mirror.

Agree0 Disagree0

And how much has he brought in from sales, AG?

Totally agree 002, he hasn't stopped talking about Suarez since he said he wants to stop talking about Suarez. This just reminded me of the Benitez rant a while ago. I like what he is doing on the pitch, think we're all impressed and we can all see what's missing. the players are there to buy

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to agree Eds and wrote a similar message about saying how we would buy players that would be basically better or of more value than are first purchases.

Don't get me wrong I think he is the right man for job and I like his passion for LFC but he is still relatively new to managing a big club and he is naive at times and tends to say far too much to the press. He will learn I am sure to give less away and make less promises of a sort

Agree0 Disagree0

It's not naivety, it's making sure that the fans are aware that it's not his faulty there's been no action and hoping that they will add pressure to the owners too.

What's he expected to do, get pastings from fans for not buying players when it looks like we are playing a game by stating "we can compete" and that we will add quality to the first team?

{Ed002's Note - I love this "it's always someone else's fault" approach. He is either accountable or he isn't. He is a nice guy, but as I said when he was recruited, it is a job too soon for him.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I posted a reply to Crunch's query, but it has not been posted.

Crunch, we have got back £36 million from player sales since BR has been in charge, so that is about £48 million net spend on transfer fee alone, plus the agent fee. signing-on fee, fee for terminating contract etc which would be significant. {Ed002's Note - I haven't seen it which meant another Editor would have dealt with it.}

I agree that BR could sometimes think more about what he's saying to the press, but I have to say your constant criticism and insulting of our manager is over the top!

I may be wrong but I'm sure I remember he came out with the . you can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time, comment in reference to us the fans, and how Liverpool fans are amongst some of the most knowledgeable of all, so if this is the case why try and "fool" us via his media interviews?

Silence is said to be golden, he should simply "talk" through his players on the field

BR has soend £84 million since he has been at the club in 3 windows and has recouped £36 million. That is close to £50 million pounds alone FSG has bank rolled him with. This doesn't of course include the other "Extra Costs" that Ed02 keeps telling everyone about, but no one seems to understand it! If you think this "Extra Costs" are not much, think again, because we have spend close to £30 million in agents/agency/representation costs in the pas 4 years.

Ed02, I totally agree plus rogers has also intimated that he expects RM to come in for saurez which I find is an extraordinary statement to make considering the RM interest in saurez has only been media speculation/rumours/BS and rogers knows this, I suspect he has been told by fsg he will get the money from saurez and he is now starting to panic because no one is coming in for him (apart from arsenal) and he is actually trying to muster/drive interest in saurez by telling interested suitors that their time is up unless they bid now but even that is NOW too late so you will have to pay a premium LLF, rogers, you can read him like the local paper.

{Ed002's Note - I agree that Rodgers should not have mentioned Real Madrid but he has taken to doing a lot of talking in public - and the press love that. I have explained all along that Real Madrid would be looking to put in an offer, but they would look to include a player in the deal to keep the cash figure down. Someone has suggested to me that Real Madrid might even look to include a player on a permanent deal and a player on loan as part of the deal. I don't want to go into any detail about this just yet. Whether or not Suarez's representatives have got other clubs to be interested enough to make an offer is something I could only speculate over.}

I would disagree with you on this one Ed02.

I think he has handled a difficult situation well in the Media.

I don't know what the truth is with Suarez, perhaps the club will sell him to Real Madrid, but its certainly not in Liverpool's best interest to say this to the media at this point.

Yeah he answered a question he said he wouldn't answer again. So what. He gets asked it a million times, he was bound to give someone an answer. I would say almost every manager has done this. Hardly embarrassing.

I actually think he's media skills are excellent. Certainly better than Roy and Kenny. Only my opinion.

PS. Love Kenny, just not his manager media skills.

Also, Ed02, you do a fantastic job. Just my opinion on this point which I wanted to share.

{Ed002's Note - He really did not need to mention Real Madrid Davey. The media are lapping all of this up.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Wow AG. Didn't Realise the sales income was so low. Also didn’t realise he spent that much? Looking at the players he has signed, I total £73m but I’m not including Free’s or Sahin Loan, as I thought we recouped the loan? We got a loan fee in for Carroll.

Everyone has to pay fees, etc. Spurs will, Man City etc. All teams pay signing on for Free’s and wages etc.

But unlike most, we have high income too. The biggest shirt deal, biggest sponsor deal, massive TV share, finishing in the top ten every year, etc etc. We’re one of the most supported team in the world, certainly in the top 5.

So he has spent £73m and recouped £48m. that's £25m spend on players. Its less then £10m per window he’s had. Still its a lot.
I don’t doubt he has been backed at all, my only doubts and moans are more towards the expectancy of top four or CL or challenge for the title that FSG have. We are a huge club are we not? We should be looking at the title, not accepting 4th as the goal? It does take some investment to get top players that would make us compete, as Werner promised. If FSG don’t want to, fair enough, its their money as Rodgers said. But please do not expect us to get more points than Utd, Man Cirty, Chelsea, Spurs or Arsenal (if they buy those top RM players)

They’ve got a good coach, we can see on the pitch the quality of play, but why should they expect us to beat teams which cost £100’s of millions.

Agree0 Disagree0

Name me one manager who isn't embarrassing when they speak to the press about club matters or players. Rodgers should not be singled out. {Ed002's Note - It is a Liverpool page, he is the only manager that the club has.}

Agree0 Disagree0

He`s still learning. BR is a very good manager and he can damn well coach. BUT he needs to sometimes grow a pair and not show that he is flinching in front of the press. What he said can only be termed as a form of lassitude and frustration, nothing more. However, the way he did it has fed the media and they are having a field day. Nobody has mentioned that FSG HAS supported BR in the market and we have brought in FIVE player this window of which 3 of them have improved the team ALREADY. Yet we`re all whining about us refusing to sign some greedy merc whose agent tried to mug us for 5m. GET A GRIP!

Agree0 Disagree0

No I don't agree. I think you have a problem with Rogers which comes across in all your comments.

I actually think he hacked himself well with the press (compared to other managers)

Agree0 Disagree0

He's reduced the wage bill by 20-25m minimum, he's created an entertaining team to watch, we create more chances than anyone else. If Suarez goes not all the money will be reinvested so I would suggest he'll probably have net spent c15m per window which is less than Southampton.

Hi eds,

It looks highly likely that Chelsea will sign Willian now, so do you think that Mata may become available and if so do you think we would be interested? {Ed002's Note - RTP please.}

Good morning eds,

Twice yesterday I posted one of my stat attack posts and it didn't appear either time. Any chance you could tell me if there was any kind of problem with it?

Thanks

Nevada {Ed002's Note - They were both posted to one of the "other" posts page due to their size. We have a page for large blog type posts that we could put them on but you will need to send an email address and I will have someone contact you about them.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thanks ed, I don't usually check the other pages except rumour so wouldn't have found it on my own as it didn't come up when I searched for it. Out of curiosity what did your message say at the end of my second post? It didn't print what you wrote for whatever reason?

Would like us to show an interest in Victor Moses, Kevin Phillips, Titus Bramble, and Shawcross because then Spurs would hijack the deals, Only kidding of course.
Would like to know though how can Coates go from being player of the u21 tournament a couple of seasons ago to nobody wants him? I know he has an injury now but you cannot go from one extreme to the other, what has happened?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It just hasn't worked out for him here. It happens.

Agree0 Disagree0

He wasn't player of a u21 tournament. jesus Christ.
He was young player of the tournament, at the senior copa America.

He is too slow for the prem. Bit like Mertesacker but he hides it with exp an better positioning sense.

FSG policy to buy young players with big potential is fine. But suprised no interest in Iker Muniain. Julian Draxler or Alan Dzagoev (who was brilliant in Euro's). Surely they'd be brilliant Ed's. In the same mould as Reus. Goetze. Shaqiri etc?
Would love to see Muniain/Draxler at LFC rather than Willian, and Dzagoev/Eriksen/Yarmalenko.
If we have money for a marquee signing in the region of £30m and possible sale of Skrtel (I'd even sacrifice 2 of Borini/Henderson/Allen) for 2 of the afore mentioned 5. {Ed002's Note - Wow, it is just like fantasy football.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Draxler has rejected moves to Bayern, Barcelona and Dortmund to stay at his boyhood Schalke.

FFS is everyone on the "lets sign Victor Moses" train?

If we were to sign him I would've liked it to happen when he was a Wigan player. I always said we should move for him back then. But now?! I think that would be a huge waste of whatever funds we have. I thought were trying to make a marquee signing? (20m+) as much as I still think he's a decent player, Sterling and Ibe can produce just as much as Moses can!

I'd rather Ben Arfa > Moses.

And quite honestly I'd prefer someone better than the both of them. Why not inquire for Juan Mata? Mou is starting the same BS he did at Real and has it out for Mata it seems like. I don't think UCL football would be a factor for Mata. I think he wants to play every week and secure a place for the World Cup. However. this also seems very unlikely!

So why not make a move for any of the following players: Antoine Griezmann, Jackson Martinez, Arda Turan, Lorenzo Insigne, Georginio Wijnaldum, Leandro Damiao, Carlos Vela, Clement Grenier.

I could probably pick out a few more if I gave it more thought. But regardless. We've got to splash some cash on a top attacker! Some of these targets would be harder to acquire than others obviously but I'm just throwing ideas out there. Our team is not far off: we need to spend the money on an attacker and a CB and our business is settled.

I was watching an episode of bein Liverpool the other day and one of the lads on there said: "Faith can move mountains". So keep the faith. YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think you'll find no one is on the "lets sign Moses train". I would much rather go for Marin if we were to sign a Chelsea reject. {Ed002's Note - You would need to wait another year for that.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't agree with the players you named as "top attackers. When I think of "top" I think of Messi, Ronaldo, muller, neymar ect ect. I don't think we will spend on another attacker tbh, hope i'm wrong though. Juan mata just won't move to Liverpool common sence should tell you that we haven't shown any interest in him either.

The mail are reporting that Stoke are looking to sign Oussama Assaidi on loan. Thought he was already going on loan to QPR? {Ed002's Note - Nothing came of it. Twente are interested as well.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed. Is that drop of interest from QPR or the Player or Us? Do you know why its been a bit difficult to off load, loan or otherwise? Does the player want to stay and make it a la Downing? {Ed002's Note - They could not agree a deal.}

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2013 12:19:05
Anybody interested in buying him as opposed to a loan Ed? {Ed002's Note - Genoa certainly and Twente at a low fee perhaps.}

Agree0 Disagree0

We bumped his salary beyond what Eredivisie clubs can afford. I predict he will have two loan spells and eventually leave for 1m meaning several million more down the drain for a player contributing precisely zilch.

Ok here is my view on ONE transfer saga.

As many of the readers, and perhaps the eds may know, I'm a big fan of Christian Eriksen. I first saw him as an 18 year old playing in a 6-0 win. He scored that day (I think it was his first goal for Ajax).

However, it was his vision and decision making which impressed me more so. He reminded me of a young Wesley Sneijder, or Luis Garcia.

Since then, I have been following him, and I found it extremely coincidental when he was continuously linked with us.

The only thing I hate is, it doesn't look like he is a target anymore. It's a real shame because I think if we actually put a big effort in, we could have secured his signature.

I follow Eriksen almost as much as I follow LFC, and in his career, I wish him all the best, but I would love for him to wear the LFC shirt. Many people say he isn't good enough to be declared as one of the best, and perhaps they are right. But heis still only 21, and has a good 10 years to play and improve.

When I read rumours about him going to Tottenham etc, it upsets me a little, because I know he will be a world class player by the time he is 24. And if I see him in another shirt, I know he will probably never play for us.

If a big team like Barcelona come along, I would wish him all the best, and he probably would become one of the worlds best, and I'd still be a massive fan!

Anyway, the main point of all this was to try and sell you all on Eriksen, and look at the situation through my eyes.

I would really like people to reply and an answer from one of the eds who support Liverpool would be fantastic!

Thank you all in advance.

YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Eriksen for me would prove to be the shrewdest signing of the market. 10-15m for a player of that quality? For me signing eriksen would allow us to sign a CB & Will Hughes who for me will really give us tactical robustness that Rodgers desires.

Agree0 Disagree0

You follow "him" as much as you follow LFC

Have you thought about going and speaking to someone professional about this!!

Agree0 Disagree0

You don't need to sell him mate - he and his agent have been doing that for a while now. Talented, yes - but I think his heart is in the money, not the club he plays for.

Agree0 Disagree0

Eriksen is simply not good enough. I just don't get what people see in him. The only time I have seen him play well against a top side was against Man City, who btw were very poor last season in the Europe. Against the likes of Real, the mancs(in europa) and Dortmund, he simply went missing. It was hard to even spot him on the pitch. He is just a poor man's Coutinho. A move to Italy would be good for him, because he ain't hacking it in England.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just an opinion but from the few games I have seen Eriksen play, he seems to have the role that Rodgers wants Coutinho to have for us .

He is certainly not the left-sided forward that Rodgers is looking for .

Also, I wonder why none of the Champions League clubs are ever linked with him, he is in the last year of his contract and still can't get a move .

Agree0 Disagree0

Coutinho can play on the left, just like he did against stoke.

P.S. Thanks for the replies reds.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would much prefer Arda Turan, he is more experienced and with the youngsters we have making up the team this would help. He is also at this time better as a footballer and has the attitude of constant pressing which fits into Rodgers system, whereas when I have seen Eriksen he has seemed quite lazy. Eriksen has also been very outspoken about wanting a Champions League club etc and Arda according to the eds would very much want to play for the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Eriksen simply isn't the answer for our team now. What we need now is a wide player, preferably playing on the left and a centre back. Maybe we could get another striker if the situation permits but Eriksen is not needed for LFC at this point at all! Moreover, he's about to move to Milan so why bring him up now! Its good that he's going!

Agree0 Disagree0

Alex4, I agree with you completely! But the main issue would be the fee, will be met? We will try to negotiate and get a favourable deal which might come back to bite us. But I trust them to get this one right.
