Luis Albertos goal was a rebound from his missed penalty.
At least teixeiras was a good one!

Believable2 Unbelievable22

Really? You felt the need to post this just to put one of our own down? I seriously don't know how this gets through, pathetic post.

Agree36 Disagree0

So what if he missed a penalty and scored the rebound, Xabi Alonso missed the penalty in the CL final in 2005 but scored the rebound, are you going to chastise him too?!

Agree21 Disagree0

Alright mate chill, it's a fact not an opinion!

Agree2 Disagree16

How about positive:

A) He scored.
B) Our 20 year old on loan player was trusted enough to take a penalty. That says a lot, really.

"At least Teixeira's was good'. That, Sir is an opinion. Shameful. Honestly, I don't see what purpose this served.

Agree11 Disagree0

Fencey

Really?Really? Really?

Agree2 Disagree1

Who cares how he got the goal?
The more he impresses at malaga, the better the price we get for him.

Agree2 Disagree0

Wow. . The responsibility of taking penalties is given to Alberto. that alone excites me. .never mind a rebound goal.

Agree1 Disagree0

Alberto has arguably been Malagas best player since he moved there

Agree1 Disagree0

Both of Fenceys post have 1 "agree" wonder who they were from 😃😃😃

Agree3 Disagree0

The boy is doing well at brighton, I seen him in dublin and him and ibe were the stand out players, he is going to be a 1st teamer for us if he keeps progressing like he has

Hi eds, I've been delighted with this transfer window so far but i'm just wondering have we missed out on any of our key targets? I've been impressed with Ayres dealings but am keen to know whether or not he failed to close a few other deals. Thanks

Believable3 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware.}

Just think to yourself. Am I happy with the business? Don't worry if they were number one targets! I personally, buzzing of who we've got. Down to Brendan's head ache to play and keep them happy, guess that's what he's paid for!

Agree4 Disagree0

23 Aug 2014 22:41:56
What is the obsession with utd and their transfer business for me it's irrelevant what they r doing let's worry about our own team big deal if they r getting di Maria please stop whining about him.

Believable33 Unbelievable0

I'd be quite happy if they blow 50m on Di Maria. Sure, he can create goals and score the odd one, but the amount of times he gives the ball away and gives the other team the chance of getting a goal, outweighs it.

Hi edds, I've read reports saying Balotelli could be available for the man city game is this accurate?

So many of this particular repetitive question, how about we try anything to postpone the game until the paper work is complete, or maybe get the FA to kindly wave any process in place just to see Balo score against City?

Hey eds, fellow kopites, more a question for anyone who is an avid watcher of the Liverpool tv channel, do they still show the pre match press conference on Thursday's or Friday's? It always used to be at 2pm, but haven't seen any on the station so far this season. I prefer hear from the horses mouth rather than read about it as we all know how journalists can interpret things differently. Thanks for the help.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2014 21:21:09

No eds?

Believable0 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - Song has turned down Marseille for opportunities in England. I am not aware of any approach from Liverpool and it seems too early to be moving Can on.}

Can I ask, who makes up / decides on the songs for each player. And can we have one for Sturridge please

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I really have no idea Laughin but someone here will know. Ozone or Waro might also know historically how they came about when there was no internet. An interesting question.}

Knowing the guy loves to dance after he scores I thought of a song its from c&c music factory (Everybody dance now )

Everybody dance now
Dan Dan
Dan Dan Dan
Dan
Dan Dan Dan
Dan
Dan Dan Dan
Everybody dance now
Come on score baby
Daniel Sturridge takes control
Daniel Sturridge will move you

and repeat

Agree9 Disagree4

Lyrical genius there from DeathByFootball

Agree3 Disagree0

There is a song for Sturridge, his name to the tune of the old Patrick Berger song, it was sung against Southampton, not very loud though, he deserves a song sung loudly.
Songs just get made up (at home, in the boozer etc) and then get known on the Kop and Sometimes you can hear them made up on the spot at the ground and evolve game after game.

Anyone know the score in the U21 game v Sunderland? Did Yersil player, eds is he staying or going out on loan. I was really excited for this lad, hope he gets a chance in the 1st team sometime soon

Tiexeira scored again today 2 in 2 :-)

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - I would expect Yesil will stay but would think his long term future is elsewhere if Rodgers keeps adding forwards.}

The U21 vs Sunderland was last week, we won 1 - 0 Ryan McLaughlin scored. We played Man U U 21's yesterday at Anfield 1 - 1.

Some good performances from Ojo, Mclaughlin.

Can under 16's sign a pre contract with a buying club?

Say if LFC had a 15 year old scouted, can the two clubs / player sign a pre contract that states they will stay at there parent club, till say they are 17 / 18 to continue there development and then they would move to the buying club?

Or is that as good as tapping up?

Thanks in advance

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It doesn't work like that really. They count as children until 18 and provisions have to be made for schooling etc.. When a professional contract is offered (at 18 now - it used to be 17), the player is effectively up for grabs. However, any other club buying him has to pay compensation - as they do to varying degrees until the player is 24. There are no pre-contracts.}

23 Aug 2014 16:14:10

I really feel for borini done nothing but give 100% now he may be forced to go to a club he doesn't want to go.

Believable7 Unbelievable5

You have to be ruthless in football. Just because a player is a nice guy who trys hard doesn't mean he warrants a place in the squad.

It is about ability and if a player isn't good enough then he has to go.

Red Rum

Agree13 Disagree0

Have to agree with Red Rum here
if you want to achieve big you need not be stop being lovey dovey in football
we have or will be signing a replacement for Borini for whom we may end up getting a great price
And he isn't an exceptional talent
no need to feel sorry about him

Agree6 Disagree0

As a striker its about scoring goals or looking like you will score, unfortunately for borini he's done neither for us.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 appearances since 2012, mostly as sub. Never any wonder he hasn't done much 'Gumshield'

Agree6 Disagree1

Poor guy having to play football for a living, whilst getting paid a fortune. His swanky apartment will have to be outside Liverpool.

My heart bleeds for him.

Agree8 Disagree0

23 Aug 2014 15:55:35
Completely agree with most here. You really need to be ruthless in football, You must buy the best to be the best.

SAMUEL ETTOO. AGE 53.

Agree6 Disagree4

I agree you have to be ruthless but for me baroni would do a better job overall than others we have. including Mario perhaps and certainly would be more effective than eto!

Agree2 Disagree5

23 Aug 2014 16:49:48
It's a tough one the guy hasn't had a real chance of playing and when he does it's not in his natural position. Yeah obviously footballers earn a ridiculous amount of money but he does seem to have a passion for the game so in that sense I feel bad for the guy.

Agree3 Disagree1

I think the money they earn helps soften the blow! If someone offered me £40,000 a week to go and work in the North Pole for 3 years, I'd take it with both hands.

Agree5 Disagree0

Ozone, if anyone offered you a job full stop, you'd turn it down to watch Jezza and moan on here.

Agree5 Disagree0

Don't know how Borini can be seen as "not good enough" when he has been injured, out on loan and barely got a chance to have a run of games in the first team. If he was a consistent under-performer you'd have a point but he has barely had a chance to perform and has been written off - I suppose the only saving grace is the club gave him more time than the fans, who'd wrote him off half way through his first injury plagued season. To be honest a lot of our fans have been on his case from day one and never given him a fair shout, for his confidence (and his football) maybe he is better off going. I feel for him though - wish we (club and fans) would have given him a fair go.

Agree3 Disagree0

In the old days, Liverpool constantly improved the squad and sold players off, and i'm sure they all tried hard then.

Sometimes it just doesn't work out in football, but for borini's own sake he needs to go, he still has a great career ahead of him imo.

It's amazing how people's minds change in the space of two weeks.

I've just been going through the polls of the day and the latest is, "Do you think Mario Balotelli is a good signing?" and 83% of people have said "yes".

Two weeks ago, there was another poll that was "Would you like to see Liverpool sign Mario Balotelli?" and 68% of people said "No".

Believable8 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2014 15:14:39
2weeks is more than enough time for even Zeus to change his mind!!

Agree4 Disagree0

I confess to being one of the people who voted "No" 2 weeks ago, and "yes" today. The main reason of this change, is due to the change in price. I imagined Balotelli to cost at least £25 million, without including agent fees, wages etc. At a much cheaper price, the gamble is worth taking.

Agree3 Disagree1

23 Aug 2014 13:29:23
The u18's goalkeeper is awful! He played games last season & constantly make mistakes & he's at it again this season

Believable2 Unbelievable8

Well your post will certainly boost his confidence. Keep it up.

Agree12 Disagree1

Confidence isn't the issue it's quality

Agree2 Disagree6

If he's an under 18 I suppose he shouldn't be allowed to play football, isn't that right eez eh? Certainly not forvthe first team. Can't have kids in the stadium.

Agree5 Disagree1

Well then you should be in charge then. Maybe the under 18 staff haven't a clue?

Agree3 Disagree0

Slagging off the kids now. A whole new low, really. What's next, criticizing the U-11s?

Agree10 Disagree1

EMS

LMAO

Agree2 Disagree1

That's a very right wing & discriminatory view you've got there EMS

Agree0 Disagree7

All players, of whatever age group, have bad games. Thing its bang out of order to be slagging off U18's - so the goalie had a bad game, he doesn't need slagging off by his own "fans". First teamers are fair game for criticism in my opinion, but the kids need protection from the harshness of that scrutiny.

Many pundits said following performance against Southampton that Liverpool missed Suarez. Many are again suggesting that we will struggle against Man City on Monday because we do not have Suarez. They seem to forget that if we had not sold him to Barcelona, he wouldn't have been available in these games anyway (due to the ban). We are not a one-man team and the fact that we won against Southampton whilst not at our best says a lot about our mentality now!

Believable18 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2014 13:38:20

Hey lfc fans

So now that Liverpool have . options in the squad to rotate between games as the club have more games now .

The skysports panel are now saying why did they buy Markovic if they r trying to buy mario. Why is lallana at Liverpool when he might be on the bench

I distinctly remember that same panel said our squad is too small and they need to buy if they want to win things . An dcompare with the likes of Chelsea or man city

Damned if u do damned if u don't

Believable23 Unbelievable0

All the panel need to do is look at Chelsea, Citeh or Arsenal to see why you need a squad. Although with the squad Liverpool have assemblem there should be no excuses.

Although with the squad Liverpool have assemblem there should be no excuses.
=====================
Do you really believe that Irish? I am not convinced, I am most likely wrong but to me, we bought far too many similar players and we still lack the creativity that Suarez used to provide. To me the most creative we have now is Henderson and Gerrard

Agree1 Disagree9

Sterling

Agree3 Disagree0

Sterling, Coutinho, Lallana, Markovic all have a similar or higher level of creativity as Gerrard and Henderson.

Agree3 Disagree0

I think Coutinho can create as well as Lallana and Sterling. i'm expecting Sterling to have a great season (20 goals). We have a team full of attacking players but I would have been happy to acrifice one for a top midfielder. Maybe I should have originally poated that Brndan has no excuses. That would be a fairer remark.

Agree2 Disagree1

23 Aug 2014 12:21:15
What is very important is;
Is ballotelli not the choice of br, but he's agreeable to it and happy to work with him?
Or.
Is ballotelli not the choice of br and br is not very happy. (Robbie Keane anyone? )

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - will people stop this crap about Robbie Keane - he was 100% the choice of Rafa!!! And yes, that was direct from his mouth himself saying that he wanted Keane. The issue was the non-signing of Barry, not the signing of Keane.}

The 08/09 & 09/10 transfer windows were some of the worst I have ever seen. Not any of the player signed in those two windows manged to turn out to be a relative success besides maybe Johnson who is now one of our highest earners and not worth a place in our starting eleven.

Those two windows contributed to our massive downfall and removal from European football. The time for Rafa to go when he did was without a doubt right.

Agree2 Disagree1

Rafa became a failure in his last 2 windows and he would blame everybody else BUT himself. He knew exactly what he was doing by airing our laundry in the media just to mask his own disastrous blunders. He was a politician and no longer a manager and would pander to players like GJ by giving him THE MOST ridiculous clause I`ve ever heard of in his contract that he MUST be picked if he`s fit. If we can`t move GJ at the moment, Rafa "the genius" should be thanked for that. And to think that many of our fans wanted him back. Stupidity at it`s finest. I was jumping for joy when he got his pink slip because he had lost the plot COMPLETELY. As for Balo, Mino Raiola said in an article that the deal had been discussed for a few months hence for me, Rodgers MUST have known about it and approved of it in some way if that is indeed true.

Agree1 Disagree3

23 Aug 2014 12:13:19
While it is inconceivable that Gerrard won't start against City, I really feel that he does not have the mobility to be a CM versus a team like City. Can is probably too inexperienced in this game, but my gut still tells me Stevie's lack of pace will bite us in this game. And I can only assume BR knows that Lucas has no role in this game. I would love to see speed and mobility. Give the young guns a shot at the champions! (Moreno, Markovic, Can).

Believable3 Unbelievable5

I agree mate. I'd start with Can in the holding role with Allen and Henderson in front of him. Sterling in behind Lambert and Sturridge.

I also hope Moreno and Sakho come into the side for Skrtel and Johnson.

Agree2 Disagree6

There is no way BR will drop too many experienced players against man city and throw in 4new signings. Suicide.

Agree3 Disagree0

Letting Can play instead of Gerrard would be suicide. I could understand it if Can had played 5-10 bpl matches prior to this match. We need Gerrard to control the midfield, he is our captain. In front of him I would like to see Allen/Coutinho and Henderson.
I don´t think Sakho should start in the game against Man city. Perhaps give him 20 min in the end, if the scoreline allows it.

Agree4 Disagree1

Can is plenty experienced, as is Markovic. Not saying either will start, but it shouldn't be due to lack of experience.

Agree1 Disagree0

Fair enough play Allen ahead of Lucas but, in games of this magnitude, Gerrard offers as much off the ball and in the dressing room as he does with the ball at his feet. If we play Gerrard and Lucas then we will have problems.

Agree4 Disagree0

Someday, at some point, Gerrard will have to be subbed in the second halves and then eventually give up his place as a starter. And if Can has been brought in precisely for that reason (assuming Lucas moves on), then the sooner it is done the better. Before, I cause an uproar, I mean subbing Gerrard more and more with Can, until he's picked up enough to be able to start.

Agree0 Disagree0

Do people watch the same matches as me? Gerrard is still a great player! No way would I start him on the bench!

Agree4 Disagree0

I'm pretty certain it will be the same team as against Southampton.

Maybe Moreno in for Manquilo.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gerrard`s experience and leadership are CRITICAL in these types of games as well as his range of passing and deadball delivery. What he needs is players around him like Hendo, Raheem, Coutinho, Allen and/or Can who can be his legs and press the opponents in midfield and switch attack to defence in one go. That was what made us unplayable many times last year.

Agree1 Disagree0

MikeD86 & redohio
I agree with you two.
Steven Gerrard offers a lot more to our team than just his passing ability.
Without his leadership qualities we have no real experienced captain to lead by example when needed.
We have a young squad with many players new to the English game.
His performances in the second part of last season were why he was chosen by fellow pros and pundits in the team of the season. Admittedly his performances in the more advanced role were not of his usual standard and Brendan acted upon this by dropping him deeper.
He creates so much from the DM position, more so than almost any other player in world football. (besides possibly Pirlo)
I would not even consider dropping him at the moment. His ability is still there and I expect him to have a great game tmrw.
I don't think the system and personnel we played last week was right for a home game against Southampton. The week before against Dortmund he was class.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2014 12:09:31
The season kicks off and i'm as reddy for it as the rest of you.

After the 1st game - bit deflated with the verve in our play (missed suarez big time) but delighted with the resulting 3 points.

Mario ready to sign, WOW, ludicrous individual abilities, cheap as a £16 million pound chip borne from him being as audacious and flamboyant as Quentin Crisp.

Fee, no brainer, the tills will be ching chinging.

How many players do we have now with the ability to get us to our feet . 6-7-8,, blimey, . if all these players gel when selected, we are going to see some sublime football again this season.

Also, the club managed to keep very quiet about Jorden Hendersons operation to have a Zinzane Zidane leg transplant.

With Mario, the touch paper will be lit, let the fire works begin, the verve added with nerve, will avoid the swerve.

Don't think this squad has what it takes for the title this season but a top four finish would keep me happy and a good champions league and a good cup run and have a crack at the title next season after all the new signings have gelled into the team. Hope balotelli proves everyone wrong and becomes world class all he needs to do is try his best and he will get full support from the fans. Perfect team balance of Youth and Experience what we have are leaders in Gerrard and Lovren something the other teams like United and Arsenal are missing although I see arsenal winning it this year if Ramsey stays injury free and Sanchez scores enough

So glad your not our manager.

If the eto'o rumours are true, I wouldn't imagine it would be as a backup to balotelli. Balotelli, if it works out, is a long term solution to play with with sturridge. Eto'o is being signed on a one year deal. I think rodgers wants four strikers, but obviously we don't have origi this year, who he rates so highly. So eto'o would only be signed to take the fourth striker position until origi joins. Not as a replacement for balotelli. that's my opinion anyway.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

Borini out, eto'o in is what i'd imagine.

Y do u need 4 strikers?. If the Excuse is 4 competitions, The BR would field the best 11 from QF berth upwards.

Agree0 Disagree3

4 strikers is a must

Agree6 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The club has others who should be able to step up - folks are mentioning Peterson, will Yesil get the chance, Markovic can play anywhere at the front, Sterling could be used. There is plenty of cover and lots of options Chris.}

Is he starts 2 strikers, 4 is not stupid harry. If you're playing balo and sturridge and lambert was injured, then we'd have no sub strikers if Borini left.

Agree5 Disagree0

23 Aug 2014 14:15:15
Fencey

If BR starts 2 Strikers up, Then we would have Markovic and Countinho on the bench (Sterling would be at the tip, Lallana and Hendo in the middle ). They are far better than Ettoo any day.

What If the whole 11 gets injured?. Your point make no sense mate.

You must then Admire the guts of Jose. He is starting a new campaign with 1 Striker.

No he's not Harry; Costa, Drogba, Torres and even Schurrle are all options for there.

Options yes Ed but if you want to win the league or/and compete on all fronts you need 4 quality strikers

City are the only team with 4 quality strikers.

I can't help but get the feeling that Brendan really doesn't want Balotelli. His reaction in his press conference seemed to indicate some ill feeling, normally he wouldn't comment or just say they are fantastic players (blah blah blah). Slightly more ominous was his insistence on meeting Balotelli before he progressed with his medical, I trust BR so if he doesn't want Balotelli, neither do I. Can the Eds shed anymore light on this situation?

Believable4 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - I explained yesterday that there is a strong feeling from a colleague in Italy and someone else who is very well placed in Italy that Balotelli was not the choice of Brendo. That is all I can really say.}

23 Aug 2014 11:22:15
Sorry Ed, just seen. I really don't know what to say now, surely he would ultimately have to agree to it?

Agree4 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Absolutely, I am sure he would.}

It will be very easy to buy his support, all he needs is to scores some goals and behave. The only issue here (if this is true) is whether because of this MB will be only a bench option and not in the starting 11 (unless SAS are not ift). I think this will be a waist and would like to see him start with them.

Agree3 Disagree0

He would of agreed, probably just concerned about his reputation.

Agree1 Disagree0

The very fact BR comes and states Liverpool can afford to take transfer risk sums up his feeling behind the transfer. Mario = risk. Maybe this the moneyball coming in to play?

Agree0 Disagree2

I haven't noticed any strange behavior by brendo. he looked happy and excited when asked about balotelli. he even laughed and told the reporter:"i can categorically say that. I can't talk about that(with laugh and smiles)". this story about balo not his choice is maybe a bit exaggerated
. I am sure he is excited but he is also a careful because he could suffer if balo turns out person again.

It could be the fact we have a stable ship and Brendan is a lil afraid mario will rock the boat so he wants to put his stance on the matter show him who's boss he's not taking no nonsense. We'll see as Ed002 says!

23 Aug 2014 14:23:41
I agree with Ed002, If It was his choice, We wouldn't have been running around for strikers all over the world.
Ballo was available from past 4 months.
I hope and pray the relationship between both remains well and good. Or else its another Reina situation all over again.

Hi Eds and LFC fans. This is my first post (since you had to register).

What is with all the negativity towards Brendan Rodgers?

I know everyone is entitled to their opinion and I pretty much read every post of the summer to try and get as much info as possible on transfers.

I think Brendan is a fantastic young manager and you seem to slate him regularly and this is now transporting into negative thoughts and dislikes on the comments by any fan who praises Brendan. This is a Liverpool site for goodness sake and I hear more praise for Jose mourinho than Rodgers. This is not the opinion of the majority of fans at the game I would also like to add.

Everyone's opinion on this subject would be appreciated?

Believable5 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I don't know of any negativity toward Brendan Rodgers.}

Don't know what site you have been reading.

Must have been old posts then. Not much negativity since 2012/13 season.

Agree0 Disagree1

Long time reader (previous poster) I totally agree, there is definitely sly remarks (especially by some of the eds ) towards BR. D

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is honest commentary about his weight, which he has worked hard to overcome. There is honest commentary about his foot and mouth problem. I can do nothing to stop his nose continuing to grow and I fear he might start tumbling forwards.

I am not aware of any sly comments.}

I think AdLFC may be referring to comments made about Rodgers spending money like a kid in a candy store and how he opens his mouth when he shouldn't etc.

Most of the people who slag him don't really support our club tbh.
Just Voyeurs; jealous and scared because we're back.

Hey Eds,

Great work as usual over the summer. With the imminent arrival of Balotelli fingers crossed, do you think that is all our business done for this window?

I think BR has done good business over the summer, but could we do with another midfielder and if so is there any realistic targets for us to go for?

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No - players will still be leaving. Romero could arrive still I guess.}

23 Aug 2014 09:51:36

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - When he signs and the deal has been processed with international clearance received.}

23 Aug 2014 08:59:55
I must admit that the game against City comes a bit too early for me. If the game would have happened a month from now and with Baloteli, Markovich, Lallana, Can and Moreno having some experriance of playing PL football this year, I think it could have been a very tight game. At the moment I think they have got the edge so I will be very happy with a point. Spurs will not be an easy one either. If can get 4 or at least 3 points from these two games and then use the two week break to jel the team, we should be OK. Overall a great summer signing wise, now a lot of work needs to be done in organising our defensive game.

Spurs looked worst than they did last year based in the first game. Given the spanking they had last year I think they will be more scared of us than we should be them. As long as we play out game we'll win.

I am hoping for 6 points from our first 3 games - very few squads can take on City in the Etihad and I don't think we're there yet, although unlike most squads we do have a couple of individuals who might by some mad chance drag us over the line. Spurs is a game we should win. They have not significantly improved on last season and though we can expect them to be a better unit and more organised, they have done nothing to counter the fact that players like Sterling, Sturridge and Hendo just terrorised them as individuals

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I would think most Liverpool fans are hoping for 9 points from the first three games.}

Take it one game at a time . I expect us to take 3pts every game but maybe one pt not bad away to city but since last year I am confident before every game .

Believable0 Unbelievable9

{Ed002's Note - I wouldn't feel too sorry for Eto'o.}

Etoo can't feel too bad being second choice to ballo, he's doing well to be even in the running being old enough to be ballos grandad.

23 Aug 2014 07:39:50
With Balotelli almost signed, I think we look pretty strong in most positions now. We'll most likely get another back up keeper then business is pretty much done. My only worry now is the rumoured defensive outgoings. Agger and Coates rumoured to be leaving and hopefully Johnson. That along with the departures of Illori (loan) and Kelly makes us going from having too many defensive options, to looking pretty thin in the CB position. Lovren, Skrtel, Sakho and Toure. Toure doesn't fill me with confidence either.
That said, comparing the squad to the one that took the PL title race to the last day, I'm much more confident. YNWA

I am over the moon with our signings again etoo is a very shrewd move he has experience in abundance something we will need in champs leg. Absolutely fantastic signing along with super mario . A massive thanks to the owners who have kept their word and have supported BR in this transfer window thank you to them once again .
Excellent this a real improvement in the squad the bench will be an effective one not a stop gap bench.
Very happy.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

Eto'o would be unnecessary. We already have 3 strikers who can play upfront on their own, simply adding to our wage bill with 40 year olds will only pump up the club's debt. Why can't people just be happy with the squad we have? The club just signed 9 players for heaven's sake.

With possible Etoo's arrival. We are looking like a joke in the Transfer window after all the good works earlier done.

Agree5 Disagree6

23 Aug 2014 07:58:35
Well said Harry. There will be a lot of unhappy players at the club if keep on signing even more new players at this rate. Thankfully Ed002 just said Eto'o is just a backup option if Balotelli does not happen. Lambert's dream move would just become a nightmare more strikers arrived.

Agree3 Disagree1

23 Aug 2014 08:56:45
Signing Etto on a year deal including signing on fees would be more than Keeping Borini with the club for 3 good years ( Wages).
We have a habit of messing up in the end.

Agree2 Disagree5

It's called having a decent squad. If we want to compete on 4 fronts. We're not coming from the same place as those teams around us. Our bench was shocking last year. I'm torn about keeping ibe. Playing 30-40 times on loan is surely better than 15 odd sub appearances. He's still so young and doesn't need the added pressure. If he's going to sit on someone else's bench though then I'd rather have him on ours!

Bringing in a 56 year old Ettoo on 100k wages?. Decent squad?. You lost?

Agree2 Disagree3

Harry it's time to wind your neck in mate. Take a chill lad all will be cool.

Agree4 Disagree0

Boom, do you know it's 100k for a fact? If not then it's not a valid point? I could argue its 30k. He's not 56 so remove the sarcasm - he's a 33 heard world class striker who scored and bagged more assits than most strikers in the league. If you're telling me Ibe would do better THIS season that eto'o you have no idea about football.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Aug 2014 00:54:10
A lot is being said about the amount we have spent (I say "we" but obviously none of us have chipped in), but what is the actual net amount after sales?
People have pointed to Chelsea's transfers and their individual quality and noted our larger number of players brought in. We must remember that we had a thin squad last year compared to other big teams, so Brendan couldn't just go and buy 3 "big names", he had to strengthen across the board and I congratulate the club for the work done. I for one am happy with mario, though hope the eto rumours are baseless, would prefer to keep ibe and test a few youngsters.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Agree with u about Eto'o. It would be a slap in the face to Ibe and Peterson. They can both play up front if needed, as can Sterling and Markovic. Why BR would want a 40 year old mercenary is beyond me. The club needs to stop excessive spending on luxury signings, it would simply push the younger players out of the door, hell even experienced pros like Lambert would struggle to make the match day squad if Eto'o signs.

Agree5 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I can only see Eto'o as a possible option if Liverpool cannot complete a deal for Balotelli in the coming days. It won't be both.}

23 Aug 2014 06:23:45
I like Ibe but wouldn't say signing etoo is a slap in his face. Can you honestly say if we were to have to go away to one of the big boys you would rather play Ibe as striker than etoo? His finishing leaves a lot to be desired at this point.

Tbf I don't think we will sign etoo and believe the deal is on place if Mario doesn't agree to the conduct clause

Agree4 Disagree3

23 Aug 2014 06:35:13
A few recent articles support your view Ed002, that eto'o is a "just In case" option. If lfc can do a deal with cash as the incentive for mario toeing the line, then they should be drafted in to negotiate a peace pact between Israel and Hamas! Brilliant.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There remains a feeling from a colleague in Italy that Mr Rodgers is not yet convinced about Balotelli.}

23 Aug 2014 06:35:38
Good to hear bout that Ed002. Would have been furious about Eto'o signing. The performances of Ibe and Peterson in pre season at least merit a place in the team for the domestic cups, signing both would have been ridiculous.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Peterson I am not aware of but I do understand that there will be a loan for Ibe. You can also expect a push to sell rather than loan Assaidi, Agger and Coates. There was a possible exchange for Coates and Romero - I am not sure what has happened to that IB.}

87red, yes I would rather play Ibe instead of Eto'o against the big boys. How will we ever know whether Ibe can handle the pressure of playing for our club if he is not thrown into the deep end at some point? I thought one of the club's main objectives was bringing through as many youth team players as possible to reduce the need to spend stupid money on outside players. The likes of Sterling and Flanno did not too badly did they? And imo Ibe has more talent than both of them.
And then there is the issue of the ever increasing debt on the club. Maybe u could chip in with 5-10 GBP or whatever it would cost to take Eto'o for one mere season.
