Eds fellow reds , what position is Tom ince playing at Blackpool cf or is it 4,3,3 and in the front 3 {Ed003's Note - they play a 4-2-1-3, Ince interchanges with the front 3 but predominately plays as a winger(right recently) but if chasing a game and they throw another forward on he has been known to play in the hole(so to speak) }

Another joe allen...but with 4 mill price tag...

23 Dec 2012 21:08:25
Hi Eds,

Maybe this is a stupid question but...
I'm aware Sturridge couldn't PLAY for us if we were to agree a deal with Chelsea before the transfer window opens, but would he be able to TRAIN with the team up until that point?

This is presuming he passes medical, agrees term etc. but I would imagine there would be benefits if he could be involved with the set-up ASAP.

IncaMan {Ed003's Note - If chelsea agreed I can't see why not}

Really think its going to be a good season, i have a blue brother and were really close, we were talking and hes said its between us and everton for 4th i agree with him, everton are a good side and this season they have some redit and i respect them for the 96 tribute. LOVE THIS CITY TWO GOOD CLUBS and as much as we say we hate the blue, we can all be proud to say we are a great community and stick by each other blue or red. so remember be postive good things will come and merry christmas to every red and every blue ! YNWA

23 Dec 2012 22:41:21
No thanks. Blue and Red can't walk together.
RedBeer. {Ed002's Note - At this time of year I think it is a sad view given the support there has been for the tune - which I have downloaded.}

With all the rivalry with LFC and EFC it is a revelation what what both clubs have done and both been through. The picture of the blue girl and the red lad with the "9" and "6" on their shirts is a true inspirational picture that the clubs can put a side football to really put what matters in to perspective.
I do thank Everton for the help for the justice for the 96.

I wouldn't be happier than if LFC and Everton were consistently fighting each other within the top four. Apart from maybe if there was world peace, or no more famine...yeno

Everton have shown class and respect by not only the red & blue 96 but also having 96 justice in their club shop. Also the Everton fans for chanting Justice for the 96 have shown a great amount of respect. This is bigger than our local rivalry, infact I work with mainly Man Utd who also supported our cause by signing the online petition. I would personally like to thank everybody who has supported us during the quest for justice, thank you.

I think spurs and arsenal will be there as well...

What a city Liverpool is to have such great rivals , respect to all teams and fans who helped us to get justice for the 96 and number 1 for Christmas. Merry Christmas and god bless you all.

hi eds do you know why ngoo hasnt been given a chance his played very well for the reserves and it baffels me that yesil got a chance before him with out even proving himself {Ed052's Note - he's not getting a chance as he's way down the pecking order}

24 Dec 2012 01:20:57
I think Ngoo is good in the reserves because he's a big gangly fella which young defenders can struggle with. I suspect he wouldn't get a kick of the ball out of someone of the ability of Carra, Coates, Agger, Skrtel or any PL side's first team centre-backs.

He looks beyond awkward in terms of ball control, passing, dribbling and generally playing football.

What I would like to know is why Rodgers doesn't try putting our more promising ressies like Morgan or Yesil on the bench? Fair enough if he doesn't trust them to chase a game, but 10 minutes at the end of the few matches we've had comfortably won couldn't possibly have done them any harm.

Actually quite happy with the Sturridge signing- I think that he's going to bag a fair few for us (which, for those not in on the secret, is what we need).

I still think Downing will be off, despite his apparent 'form'. The Ince deal confuses me slightly, I don't see where he'll come in.

Regardless though, Merry Christmas everyone and here's to a great 2013!

23 Dec 2012 22:12:08
What positions do people think we should be looking to strengthen during the January window? I reckon (in order of importance):

Winger/Striker (perhaps x2) - Ince and Sturridge?

LB cover - Enrique was, until now, inconsistent and Downing isn't really a proper LB so a young leftback should be found.

CDM - cover for Lucas to make the team more balanced when/if Lucas is out. (Waynama is a bit pricey now probably)

GK - low priority, young GK a couple years from taking over from Reina (Butland, Ter Stegen etc)

Jolly Red

I think we already have cover for the left back position with jack Robinson. Everytime he has played for the first team he has been solid and he's suprisingly quick. So I'm my opinion he should be second choice left back behind Jose Enrique regardless of whether Dowbing goes or not. I agree with CDM cover but at the same time we have plenty of midfielders. Henderson and Allen are both good players but have no specific role. Shelvey and gerrard are clearly attacking midfielders, Lucas is our only defencive midfielder and sahin is a box to box playmaker. So I don't see any cover coming in for Lucas until the summer where sahin will return to madrid. So Henderson and Allen really need to make it clear what role they play because passer is not a midfield role.

Hahahhaha..sahin a box to box player?
he himself says...he plays deep...

23 Dec 2012 22:04:10
Borini seems to be forgotten about by a lot of fans, myself included. He is another young striker with potential and will be like a new signing when he comes back, hopefully he has more of a chance to show us what he is about when he gets match sharpness back. Suarez, sturridge, borini, sterling, suso possibly ince. Full of pace and energy doesnt sound too bad. J

23 Dec 2012 21:55:45
Good evening my boys

I attended the game yesterday and would just like to say twas a fantastic atmosphere. I think with a couple of attacking signings in January we will definately be in the hunt for 4th place.

Someone i know who reckons he's ITK says Sahin loan could end early, i.e. January. I know he hasn't played much but could any Eds shed any light on this? I'm assuming Real can end the loan early if they wanted him back (doubtful!) but perhaps not a decision we could make without it costing us. Anyway, probably b*******. Many thanks and great work on the site. {Ed019's Note - It will not end early. He has been injured}

What did we pay to loan him?
Cupidstunt {Ed052's Note - about 6 m}

6m for a f***ing 12mnth loan for an average player? Crazy indeed. How much will it cost to have Messi on loan?

About 2m actually Ed. The arsenal whingebags pulled 6m from their a**es as far as I know

Liverpool have completed the £12m signing of Daniel Sturridge while they are set to make a second bid for Tom Ince. Stewart Downing had a very good game yesterday but Rodgers is still looking to ship him out along with Joe Cole and Doni. Liverpool are also planning a shock loan move for Barcelona's out of favor front man David Villa. David Villa has said he would like to text himself in the Premiership and is open to a loan apparently. Liverpool's first team could look a hell of a lot stronger should they manage to wrap up these deals. Rodgers first 11 could be Reina{GK}-Johnson{RB}-Skrtel{CB}-Agger{CB}-Enrique{LB}-Lucas{CDM}-Sahin{CM}-Gerrard{CAM}-Villa{LW}-Suarez{CF}-Sturridge{RW} which is very strong in my opinion and Liverpool would be able to rest and rotate a lot of the young developing talent Sterling,Shelvey,Ince,Suso,Allen,Borini,Wisdom etc.

Liverpool haven't "completed the signing" of anybody and David Villa won't be signing for Liverpool. On loan or otherwise.

reina is definitely going... either jan or summer but he wants out

evz

No reina dosent want to go as rogers said in an interview that he wanted him to stay

I must say i am quite relaxed on this issue, Pepe has been a great keeper for us and if you had said that he was going 2 years ago i would be more worried, however most reds would agree he has not been totally tuned in for the last 18 months and if he wants to go then thank you and goodbye for me, having said that if he chooses to stay then great but a cheaky butland bid should wake him up!

24 Dec 2012 01:26:10
Bringing in Butland (or ter Stegen, for that matter) to replace Reina at his age and experience, and probably a huge price tag, is a massive, massive gamble. Young players are more prone to mistakes and when goalies make mistakes we concede and the pressure on them is even worse so they make more mistakes.

De Gea dropped a load of clangers when he arrived at United and only finally got his form together to fight off Lindegaard (who's an average keeper at best, imo) for the starting position in the last two months.

Where has Assaidi and Sahin go to. Ot complaining though as both are terrible {Ed019's Note - They have been injured - Sahin, broken nose & Assaidi, thigh I think}

How are they both terrible? Hardly had a chance to prove themselves especially Assaidi.

If you could have 2 players from the past in this team, who would you go for? For me Dalglish and fowler

Barnes and rush

Maybe Souness and Rush.

SpanishChris

John Barns & Ian Rush

Graeme Souness and Ian Rush...no, wait a minute........Heighway and Dalglish definitely.
Or Clemence and Ray Kennedy......or Alan Kennedy and Ronnie Whelan.
Steve Nicol and........Jeeze this is hard.
Maybe we should ask which players from the current crop would've been able to cut it in the past?
My guess is that many of them would've stood a chance...Gerrard (at his peak),Suarez,Lucas and Allen depending on which era and maybe Glen Johnson, Enrique at his best and the future Raheem Sterling and Andre Wisdom.
PADDOCKPETE

Molby and rush, Molbys passing was the best I've ever seen.

Without a doubt, Johnny Barnes (first 3 years version) and the ultimate finisher, Rushy.

In our current goalscoring malaise, it would have to be fowler and rush. But kudos to the poster who said jan molby, never a better passer of a football has there been in this league in my opinion. Sweet as a nut. With sugar on. Dipped in cream. With a strawberry in it. Very sweet.

Rush and Dalglish but what a tough one! Really struggled to choose between them, Barnes, Keegan and my all time fave, Ray Kennedy.

Hi eds and fellow Redmen. Seasons greetings to you all.

Chuffed about yesterdays result, consistency and of course finishing ability is now needed to ensure we move into the Champs League spots.

My point is the difference Lucas makes to the side. We all acknowledge his ability to read the game, intercept and give the ball simple. But, what also stands him apart from say Allen (who did well in a position foreign to him) is the number of balls that are played forward. In his first game back LFCTv showed all c85 of his touches. I counted all apart from c5 passed forward, meaning our build up play was quicker, more of our triangles our played higher up the pitch, and we play more of our football in zone 5/6/7 of BR's system. This creates better attacking platforms, potentially more goal attempts, and reduces the chances of losing the ball in our own third. He may not make goal scoring assists but does create tempo that at times was missing before. He really is a huge plus to our team.

For me, just like the rest of you guys, the cutting edge finisher ala Rush, Aldridge, Fowler, Torres is simply all we need. How many times did those guys sneek us a 1 nil when maybe we had a bad day? They made the difference between a draw and a defeat, one point and three. The commentator on ESPN said part way through yesterday's game, that was LFC's 300th attempt on goal for the season, more than any other PL club. Some stat, and BR should be proud, but if we'd had the finisher, how many more of those would equal more goals, points et all? They're a rare commodity but if the Club can move heaven and earth to land one, we could, just could get champs league. A tall order, but so worth the investment.

Cheers all. Time to finsh me tinny, and go to bed dreaming of LFC greatness.

Looking forward to the Stoke game and just thinking (if anyone agrees) playing 3 at the back, e.g. Dagger, skrtel and carra, letting glen and enrique to play a bit further forward.
They love the big boot forward and having 3 tall back 3 would help defensively, just for extra cover.

FowlerGod. {Ed001's Note - why not Wisdom or Coates rather than Carra? Both would offer more mobility and are better on the ball.}

I think Coates instead of Carra, he's tried Coates in a back three with Skrtel and Agger. And Coates is our biggest and most physical player

Why play a back three against Stoke? I think it's playing into their hands.

They are almost masterful with their tactics, as ugly as they are, it's what they know and do every week. So why try and beat them at their own game?

Why not keep the ball on the ground and do what we do?

Ed it was only an example, i would probably have coates dagger and stkrtel.
but seriously we would need to consider an option like this, cos i can see stoke dominating everything when the ball comes in to the box.

FowlerGod.

Srktel is much more oppressive and physical than Coates is.

Coates is taller, but not as mobile or fast, nor aggressive as Srktel, not on his best day. He is young and could fill out into becoming very good, but he does lack pace and from a young age this is always going to be problematic for any Premiership defender of any age.

Just my opinion, but i think i've qualified it quite well.

I'm fed up with you (a so called fan) having a go at our present manager.

Chris it seems posters are not allowed their opinion need to be careful mate coz that kind of attitude posters like Blair and Bob have run away. Blair had his opinon same as bob but they were abused and insulted same as Irish Rover who has been posting for ages.

Show me a post were I have had a go at Rodgers? Oh wait, you can't because I havn't. You've obviously took umbridge with my comments over the last few weeks about the fact I am a season ticket holder, terrible thing envy!

Tbh i think most people are fed up with him in general chris

I think most people are sick to death with the constant negativity and blame game. Certain posters are copping a reaction from fans who simply want to focus on the positives and leave any post mortems until May.

Hi eds what do you make on the Sturridge transfer good buy or waste of money.
Great site {Ed001's Note - I think he improves the squad, if nothing else the other players have to raise their game or lose their place to him. Also his pace will mean opposing defences will drop deeper, giving our midfield more space to play in and allowing Suarez to get the ball further up the pitch. It should also mean the opposition's midfield has to drop a little deeper, meaning their forwards will become more isolated, making it easier to deal with them. So, overall, I hope it will be a good buy. I do have issues with his greed, he will need to play more for the team, which I am hopeful Rodgers will know how to deal with.}

23 Dec 2012 21:02:53
Forget about buying British we seem to be going for 'S'.

We've got Sterling on the left Sahin and Shelvey in the middle and Suso on the right. We have Suarez and (if not quite yet) Sturrdge up front. We have a start at the back with Skirtel but I think we need some work in this area ....

Better fast track sama and smith from the reserves then.

Maybe people should consider that maybe Butland will be an understudy to Reina for the long term? I seriously doubt Arsenal will want to take Reina with Scezney and Minnone both decent keepers, and what team in Spain would he want to move to? Madrid and Barca certainly don't need him.

Barca would take him. He is much better than valdez.
derryred

Reina had the chance to be their first choice while in la masia with valdez. But Valdez took his chances and claimed the 1st choice spot. I don't think he'll be moving and if he does look around i think he'll find there aren't many better chances for him than here

As a die hard Liverpool supporter, I think we should all be even thankful that Sturridge is even contemplating joining us. We have zero hope of Champions League football for at least the next 2 seasons whilst we're in this transition period, so for the lad to sacrifice an almost nailed on chance of playing in the CL with Chelsea to play for Liverpool in the Europa League, is a major bonus for us. Fair play to the lad, if he joins, we should all get behind him. Maybe, MAYBE this is what both of the parties need, him getting regular 1st team football and us getting another young front man who CAN bang them in. If your on your way Danial, Welcome and YNWA.

Stevie.

Zero cance of CL football?! We're 5 points off 4th!

I accept it will be challenging but I hardly think Sturridge is signing for a down and out club!

Are you sure you support Liverpool?

I agree with everything you just said apart from us having zero chance of champions league football for two years, with a few more shrewd acquisitions we will only get better and better. The style of football we play is very good, we just don't have enough of the type of players needed to make it work consistently. A lot of the guys we have now are OK but not technically good enough to pull off possession football effectively.

You are joking!!!! I will never be thankful to any player for having 'pity' on joining one of the most prestigious football clubs in the world and being paid 10,000s of thousands per week for the privilege! Sorry my friend, don't agree.

I agree with you however the point was tha he wasn't playing in the champions league for chelsea. Good player but, a bit selfish but at least he can finish, maybe a 15-20 goals a season player and believe me that is very welcome.
derryred

You really believe we have zero chance for two seasons, then maybe you should support another team for two seasons. we have every chance of CL footie this season, we are only a few points of third, admittedly so are a number of other teams but i firmly believe if the team have turned a corner and are starting to understand the way BR wants them to play and now we have sturridge who does improve the team then we can definatley contend for a top 4 place.
huddz red

Haha 0 chance as long as a team is in the premier league they have a "chance" unless they've ran out of enough points. Are you really a Liverpool supporter? I'm optimistic we will be close to challenging top 4 even getting there god fans today

23 Dec 2012 21:29:18
Mate we are liverpool fc one of the biggest and famouse club world has ever seen infact sturridge should be thankfull. At the sametime chelsea don't want him Abamovich wants torres to play by hook or crook that's the reason why benitez was appointed as chealse manager any manager who has dropped torres has been sacked. Chelsea fans are celebrating by getting rid of sturridge just go and check their page you will be surprised.

23 Dec 2012 23:19:42
No, we are not celebrating; maybe just some ignorant fans. Studge is a decent player and at a time this season, Chelsea fans were crying for him to start ahead of Torres. He might not be the 'superstar' but u have Suarez who's worldclass. Studge is young and hungry and will improve ur team.
Bas!cs.

Well, that certainly sparked a debate. Folks, I apologies if I sounded like a pessimist, I just look at our squad compared to the teams above us and its obvious that we struggle in depth. And I AM a life long die hard Liverpool supporter. I don't think it right that so called 'Supporters' reply with comments like 'Are you sure your a Liverpool supporter' just because I raise issues or have a different opinion to theirs, it completely diminishes our democratic right of free speech. Anyways, I do sometimes wish we had the spending power of Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd, but we simply don't, so reality kicks in when I look at where we can get to over the next 12 to 18 months. So, again, I apologies for sounding slightly downbeat and inferring that we are a club players should feel sorry for, it was not my intention.

Merry Christmas to all the Eds and their families and to all the posters on here. Good luck to Brendan and the squad in 2013. YNWA JF96

Congratulations on the JFT96 single, 'He Ain't Heavy ...' reaching number 1 in its first week.

Not a lot of people know that the song was not, in fact, first released by The Hollies, but by Luciano Pavarotti's lesser known brother Jimmy Pavarotti. Sadly, Jimmy was unable to pursue a career in the music industry, due to suffering ongoing hernia problems.

Seriously, great news for the families and the artists who gave up their time to contribute to this recording.

Are you serious. It is unacceptable in this day and age that a player is allowed to kick a football with the slight chance of hitting another player. They should bring back the death penalty!

Kicking footballs! What's the next step up from that? Its a gateway crime. Williams will soon be taking part in bank heists and murder.

It's no laughing matter. I also think that Phil Jones is lucky to be alive too. The ball could have cannoned off Van Persie's head, gone into Jones' left ear, travelled down his main artery and exploded through his chest. How much longer can this madness go on for?

If you kick footballs at players you need to be banned, but you can hit your own player in the head with a boot....short memory.

happy christmass reds and eds

Weve had more than 6 years of not winning the title. Rafa made us a worthwhile team again, feared over Europe. Move on? Yes, but dont try and diminish his success at our club.

Excelent reply..
to the first post...
you are ridiculous...absolute no sense of football...we have not won the title from apst 20 years mate...rafa was on 6 years..and he came second once......

Nobody is trying to diminish what rafa done at liverpool, but what he done shouldn't be chucked back in brendan rogers face everytime we have a bad game, thanks for the memories rafa but u are at the right club for u now, all u did was preach about money so good luck where u are, in rogers we trust!!

Congrats Rafa fantastic win over the Villa. Prove that you've still got it mate. All the best

Mate need to be careful Benitez was one of the best. Liverpool manager in modern footy. Name any manager since kenny left us in 1989 have achieved more then Benitez and don't forget he was working under worst owners in liverpool history. Still won us trophys and brought our pride back

Won champions league
Won Fa cup
Won Super cup
Won charity shield
Took us to two champions league Finals in 3 years
Ranked number 1 team in europe and most important trashing teams like Barca, madrid, intermilans et etc under worst owners. Even built our academy which is the best in the country. In my opinion that's quite an achievement. And never put down a man who loved Liverpool for him Liverpool was not just a job but much more than that. Always respect to Rafael Benitez he gave me some of the best moments of my life as liverpool fan.
Thank You Rafa the Gaffer

23 Dec 2012 23:33:26
And all the hate he gets from Chelsea fans is because of the way he loved and defended Liverpool.

You do realise that we don't want Chelsea to do well as that increases our chances of top 4? Respect to Rafa and all but I support Liverpool FC not its previous employees however good they did for us.

There are lots of posters on here who wanted Rafa back and after Chelsea lost at West Ham some d**k-ed's on here couldn't wait to slam the pro Rafa posters. Well guess what fella's you have left yourselves wide open now to pro Rafa gloating, so if someone does praise Rafa on here tonight, think before you reply because those who live in glass houses etc etc.

Waro

p.s. make sure you look at the name at the bottom of this post, you wouldn't want to hit the agree button by mistake would you!!

You are so unbelievably stuck in the past. Yes Rafa was good for us he won trophies he did extremely well should he have been fired? No but he was an that's that we move on. Now we got a new team a new manager and were moving forward I agree with fsg's decision to not get Rafa back because although he was good for us he's in our past its time for liverpool and its supporters to move forward new direction new team new manager. If we continue to live in the past we will miss out on what seemingly could be a bright future. don't let what other teams fans think of us as a club living in the past become us plus even Rafa had his flaws.

AndyKopLiverpool

Jeez waro, happy Christmas mate, but ffs chill a little.

I haven't left myself wide open to anything Waro
I felt that Rafa had gone has far as he could with Liverpool and it was time for him to go. I was glad he went when he did and I don't want him back.
I like and respect the man and I'm sure he'll do well with Chelsea but that's because they've got a hell of a team.
BR gets my backing at the moment

Chris in Tamworth

Let it go, he has no involvement with LFC. He is just another Premier League team's manager.

Chris in tamworth absolutely nailed it! we should thank rafa for what he gave to us but there is no denying that he lost the changing room at the end of his tenure at lfc. that damage was near on impossible to repair.
the moment stevie g and the players started shaking their heads when rafa took off torres in a particular game was when we all knew it was over.
i've never witnessed that ever in any other football match, players showing no faith left in his decision making.
i'm also pleased rafa never got considered, he was never a viable option with his desire to spend for continued overhauls of his squad. he is also not a manager keen on blooding youth throughout his managerial history. for these reasons he totally didn't suit the model that lfc are attempting to develop.

i actually feel like sometimes on here that supposed fans are more concerned for what rafa is up to rather than their own manager/club!

in brendan we should all trust (and support!)

s.p

I must post in a foreign language and i'm not realising, the point I was making was the idiocy of people slagging posters who still have a soft spot for Rafa because Chelsea lost one game and felt that gave them the ammo to have a pop at them. Thus meaning the same posters have left themselves wide open to getting stick back due to todays result. At the time I thought it best that Rafa went because the in fighting was causing splits all over the club, and when we were in for a manager in the summer I DIDN'T want him to come back because I felt we needed a fresh start wiping the slate clean. I'm just fed up with so called fans on here having a go at our ex-managers who genuinely love/loved the club i.e. Kenny and Rafa, whos next Houllier? And I would urge Rafa critics to read 44 months with two cowboys and you will see what stress and pressure he was under, trying to coach the team while fire fight behind the scenes with arguments and back biting between the owners Rick Parry and other executives at the club, it was genuine war. I think it might be best if I don't sign my posts in future as I am getting the feeling that people are having there judgement clouded by my name at the bottom of the post insted of looking at the content of the post itself.

Waro

24 Dec 2012 13:17:40
We are too quick to judge.
Rafa could have done well under Fsg,that is true.
He did however have money and time,he loved the club and i for one would like to see Rafa get a good reception if he's still in the hotseat when Chelsea visit.

Hello Eds and fellow Reds out here... Merry Christmas in advance!

Two questions for Ed002:

(1) Are we looking at any LB in this window? Or any defender at all? And when will Kelly be fit again?

(2) When will Sahin get another game? Possibly in this busy Christmas period? He adds depth to our squad, but is there no role for him in our 4-3-3 at all?

Cheers,

ok , Chelsea 9, sorry 8, Liverpool 1 villa 3, Alrarm bells ringing Brendan Rodgers. For all of our fans saying top 4 dream on. Fulham where the 2rd worse team in the premier league yrsterday. I just hope brendan had his notepad in hand watching that today. We have NO chance of being top 4 with the squad we have and what makes it worse the premier league has NEVER been so poor.
Anyone that dissagrees with this post Please feel free to reply to it.

Andykophead.

What's your point?

Chris in Tamworth

Was it arsenal that got beat by that score last year and im nearly sure they finished in top 4..you cant judge us on what score chelsea won

nidge

Didnt chelsea lose to west ham, a team we beat?

And how much has chelsea team cost to assemble? Not exactly storming away from us are they?

Brendan is doing a good job

Shak Attack

Fulham may have been second worse team but Aston villa are definitely first!

This is ridiculous.. Your saying were not top 4 because Chelsea beat them 8-0 when we lost? Man U beat arsenal 8-2 last year but if arsenal then beat another team does that make them rubbish? Ridiculous post

Your a disgrace for posting this! Yes we lost against villa the reason is and it's not Rodgers fault is that we didn't take our chances and villa did against us we dominated that game for the 1st 20mins. You need to focus on getting behind the manager and the team. Like have mentioned we are in a rebuilding stage and 4th was always going to be difficult this season.

Scouse 1892

Inconsistency is certainly a problem for Liverpool but you're writing off a man six months into a very very difficult job (8th last year with confidence at an all time low. Coupled that with over expectant fans who think we should be challenging for the premiership now let alone fourth)

Largely I believe his work has been excellent and we are on the right track. The football is largely very good and we are still challenging for that fourth spot although I do believe the real challenge for this will be next year.

He has dramatically lowered the age of the squad Introducing talents from the reserves (Suso, Sterling, Wisdom), signing very promising young players (Allen, Borini- you will no doubt think these are useless but these will be big players once they settle), signed all our best players on long term contracts and players seem to really be responding to his coaching methods and improving under his guidance (Enrique, Henderson and even Downing and Cole of late.)

With this young team it was never going to happen over night but they will grow together. In most games the performances have been really good but we need to work on the defensive side a bit more. We look really open to counter attacks. This is something I am very sure Brendan is aware of and is working on the training ground.

Basically what I'm trying to say is chill out man. We re in 8th now but its the half way point of the season.

Also as my final note your arguement is completely ridiculous. Fulham drew 3 all away to Arsenal. We beat them 4 0. Why not talk about that?

Chelsea lost 3-1 to West ham. We beat them 3-2. Your thoughts on this?

And also you expect the same results as the team that won the champions league last year and spent over 100 mill or so in the summer?

I'm sorry Andy but Rodgers is not a problem. You just need to get real and have some patience.

Davey

I'm slightly ashamed he has a similar post name to me after my delightful post below... I really hope no one mistakes me for the OP .

AndyKopLiverpool

I'm sorry but you cannot compare results. If that were the case lfc would have been beaten by Chelsea convincingly at Stamford Bridge, we shouldn't have beaten Fulham as they beat Newcastle, and we only drew with them. Each game is completely seperate in regards to what happens and who comes out on top!

I take it Santa is not calling then .
redforever

Liverpool 5-2 norwich
norwich1-0 manu
norwich1-0 arsenal {Ed052's Note - Must mean that Utd and Arsenal will get relegated then going on the OP's formual}

"Premier League never been so poor"? You mean nearly every team able to beat nearly every team rather than one or two teams dominating all the time.
I think it is the exact opposite of what you are saying and that is the premier league has never been so good!!!

Didn't Chelsea draw 0-0 at home to Fulham? Your comment is ridiculous at best

Brendon take note the reason Chelsea beat Villa 8-nil and we lost to them is they moved the ball faster didn't give Villa time to close them down

Last poster who didn't leave his name is spot on about the speed at which we move the ball. It's for that reason we won get anything at Stoke boxing day.

Ozone

24 Dec 2012 13:36:00
Really Ozone? That and that only is why we wont get anything at Stoke?
Maybe we won't get anything because they are really strong at home? Maybe because in two home games against Man City and Arsenal they got two draws? Maybe because they are unbeaten at home in the league?
Nah its probably our slow build up play.
You remember us winning their last year right?

Liverpool are by common knowledge signing Sturridge in January as well as most likely Tom Ince and even the possibility of Jack Butland but him remaining at Birmingham for the season. I think we will also be signing Jeffren Suarez of Sporting, again someone who has been mentioned repeatedly.
But in regards to summer, as you'd expect with it being so far away, there is plenty of unfabricated speculation on here. Rodgers said the other day that is long term interests are to sign another left back, a "traditional no.10" and a holding/back up midfielder for Lucas. So im going to add to the speculation with my views....cause why not! Haha.

My ideal summer would be signing Isco as the no.10 rodgers was on about. Someone who can take the ball and run with it and have the level of creativity higher up the pitch we so crave. All the top teams have there players in this role. Chelsea-mata, arsenal -cazorla, city-silva, spurs- dembele and so on and so on. We could possibly sign him for £16-24m. The left back i would go for would be Michel Bastos. Can play higher up the field aswell if we are short there and i would still have enrique as first choice, he will provide experienced cover and allow robinson time to play in the lesser profile games to rest enrique or should he gets injured.
And the final player i would go for would be Benat of Real Betis. I am very much a regular footballer myself and play in midfield. I watch more la liga than premiership football because i love seeing all the midfielders in la liga. And Benat oozes class and think although attatching labels can put immediate unwanted pressure on new players. Alonso mk.2 couldnt be any closer! Him and allen rotating and playing with lucas as the holding two behind gerrard/isco would provide a very strong core in midfield to allow the attack and fullbacks to push on and create.
Anyway these are just my thoughts. Depending on costs and who goes out aswell. I would possibly look at the option of another striker with a physical presence. Someone in the Bony or Llorente ilk.
Discuss fine reds fans! Nothing better than a bit of discussion on a topic of interest that we all love and be honest who doesnt love to speculate and fantasise everyonce in a while huh?
Cheers eds if u could post this!

aston villa batered us, and now chelsea r batering them, wait a moment , mr. rafa the gafa is batering them.

If's and but's I know (sums up our season to date), however in the first 20 minutes last week, had our final ball been better we would have been two or three up and maybe we would have been crowing about an eight nil victory.

Villa were extremely poor today and Chelsea's final ball and finishing were on the money, it is generally the way when a team stuffs another.

Daniel Sturridge has been the number one topic on this site for a few days now. To be honest, I have never been a big fan of his. However, when we look at the backlash against him, one has to admit there isn't a lot of substance behind it. Here's my take on these so-called FACTS.

1. Sturridge is greedy. This might be a criminal offence for a winger, but he wants to play down the middle where he will be asked to finish first. If Rodgers fails to make him understand that winning is more important that padding your stats, Luis or Raheem might be able to SHARE their opinion on the matter. Or we can wait until the summer to buy a philantropic striker.

2. Sturridge has a poor goal per game ratio. Well, he has been in the Prem for about 5 years. Unless you believe his best years are behind him, more playing time should provide him with more opportunities to score goals and to improve that statistic. However, if we wait a season or two Heskey could be the best striker in the world (statistically speaking).

3. Sturridge is too expensive. Do I really need to go there?

4. Sturridge is not the best available option at the moment. However, he might be the best available striker who wants to play for us. Give him that at least.

5. Sturridge is a Chelsea player. Yeah, I know!

6. Sturridge can't dance. Neither can Phil Collins, but Stevie G fancies him. Also, I have two words for you: Peter Crouch!

Let's see what happens before jumping to conclusions. He might prove to be a very good player for us. Happy holidays to everyone.

Canadian Fan

He is better than what we have, therefore is an improvement.

Babel reacted a few years back in a European game and got a straight red didn't he?

To be fair to RVP , he just had his head nearly taken off , so he was always going to react , but if I had been the ref , he would have gone for an early shower .

Question for ed001 if possible,

Hasn't sturridge complained about playing from the wide positions? Won't that still be the issue for us?

Nevada {Ed001's Note - yes and no I don't. It must be remembered that we are signing him under different circumstances. He signed for Chelsea expecting to be played in the centre, he will be under no illusions if the deal is completed for him to join us.}

I imagine if Suarez was injured then borini would get the nod to go in the middle as well. So he's never going to get a game centrally, he must really want the move.

MIKEY

I reckon BR will have his front 3 , switching , and making it harder for the opponents defence to mark , BR will make subtle cganges as we improve as a team .

23 Dec 2012 12:53:44
Hey any of the eds what's your opinion on sturridge? He will defo make our squad better but do you think he can become a really good player? Minus greediness and attitude

Cheers red twist {Ed001's Note - if he can learn to play for the team, rather than himself, he will be good. Right now, he is just step up from what we currently have, but learn that and he can be a leap forward.}

23 Dec 2012 17:13:41
Ed's - I'm would be quite critical of any deal for Sturridge if the deal uses all of our remaining budget, but as a rotation / squad player he should be ok. As long as his head is right and he doesn't disrupt the squad. Will his signing prevent us going for a quality striker in the summer (I don't mean Cavani, etc, just realistic quality players) ?

Billericay Red

I think sturidge is a realistic quality player mate.
Realistically he's about the best we can go for without champions league football.

MIKEY

23 Dec 2012 17:01:33
Suso should always start instead of Joe Allen. Allen's really good at getting the ball and passing it sideward and backwards but Suso actually attacks and tries key passes. Downing deserves another place too against Stoke.

Disagree mate. Suso and Allen are both squad players and one or the other will be used when the manager sees fit, either for technical reasons or form/fitness. Allen is more defensive than suso but that can sometimes be an advantage in certain games. Suso would be smashed to bits against some teams. In my opinion both players have bright futures at Liverpool.

MIKEY

I wouldnt play him against stoke.... he will get roughed up too much its not the type of game for a small skillful type need some steel in there against stoke although he could be the key to opening them up - glad i dont have to make the call

How did we lose to villa they look really really poor

They were poor in first 30mins against us too, but we didn't take our chances like Chavski did.

If we would have scored in the first 15 minutes like Chelsea did, we would have won. That has been are major problem this season, not taking our chances when we are so much on top.

Because we can be as bad

Didnt take our chances early on.

Joe allen played

We didn't take our chances and we underestimated them like we seem to do an awfull lot to so called lesser teams in recent years.

Hello Eds, I havnt been on here for a while due to having an old piece of shrapnel removed that I picked up in the Crimean war, but I would like to wish all of you a very happy Xmas.

Ive missed the balanced comments from Ed002 ( what a lovely girl ), the wit of ED001 and the general banter that makes this site a real pleasure to visit.

Just wanted to pass on my thoughts as I lie here recovering and watching the young nurses... lifes tough eh ?

As you know Im a staunch Kenny supporter and always will be, however , after what I thought was a shaky start for a young manager, I think Brendan is just beginning to show us what hes really about. It was only while watching the reds batter Fulham that I began to see why he doesnt want a focal point striker ( eg Carrol). He wants total interchange and rotation of positions along with his well publicised Tika Taka play.

The team needs a little more balance, our defense is excellent, Johnson and Enrique are brilliant, Lucas is a welcome addition... and a little more striking power and we could just start to become a team that could achieve.

I think Sturridge will be a great addition, and if he listens to our manager, he will develop into a huge asset and popular player. With Sturridge, Ince, Suso, Sterling, Shelvey, Kelly and Wisdom we have a very young and talented group knocking on the door. Im really excited.

One thing is for certain, I genuinely feel we now have a future and we can all begin to see the new shoots of Brendans vision. Good luck Brendan, happy Xmas Eds and fellow readers, and heres praying that we stay in touch with the front bunch over xmas

Nurse, would you mind picking my slippers up ?

Hi eds all the best to uz all.just wondering if uv heard anything on the sturidge medical today.how it went? Has it gone thru? Many thanks. Kopgray {Ed002's Note - No idea.}

23 Dec 2012 16:11:34
Ed002, you've watched Sturridge at Chelsea, do you think he'll be a good player for us? And is he actually a greedy player? Give us your opinion

BthekingB {Ed002's Note - He has on a number of occasions run out of options somewhere near the corner flag due to not letting go of the ball early enough. He will do just fine.}

Yep that's what Liverpool need a player who will just do fine! Sheeesh! I'm 50/50 on Sturridge, no idea....

23 Dec 2012 16:14:06
I am amazed that Tottenham haven't made a last gasp attempt to sign Sturridge. After all how brilliant has Siggy and Dempsey played for them. haha.

have a good holiday everyone. aklfc {Ed052's Note - There's still time yet mate...}

Haha don't say that eds I actually wouldn't be suprised if they went for him!

Has gylfi played badly this year? I haven't been following him.

The stoke keeper pulled a great save of from siggy he does ok a good threat going into the box i would say.

Spurs have bid for sturridge too but hes turning them down to join liverpool

He has played 14, scored 0 and got 1 assist. Not sure how many of those are from the bench. I wonder if he's thinking he made the wrong move...

On another football forum, some spurs fans think they have wasted money on those two players.

23 Dec 2012 16:10:24
Eds do you think Sturridge is worth getting in your opinion? Surely we can at least survive until the summer when we can get a better player. {Ed052's Note - Yes, he should be a good signing. For now at least}

23 Dec 2012 15:47:52
Nice to see Alex Ferguson literally crying after the match vs Swansea.

It will be interesting to see if willams gets banned after that red nose fool moaned about him and said he should get banned for a long long time

Nurse! Old Mr Fergussson has escaped again and hasn't taken his medication.

Going to be hard for the FA to take retrospective action because I can't see how the ref could say he didn't see it.

They cant he already got a yellow card.

Wasn't he booked for it? I may be wrong but I'm sure there is nothing that can be done now.

MIKEY

Van Persie should've been off and Taggart should be pulled up for criticisng the ref and disciplined for drinking at work, again!

BTW, let's just see how long it will be before that ref gets another Man Utd game......

23 Dec 2012 15:43:43
Lot of criticism for Daniel Sturridge, even before he has signed for us. For me, it's a risk worth taking. Sturridge has a lot to prove, and at LFC, he will be given all he needs to succeed as a footballer. BR seems to think he can improve Sturridge and I think he can.

Sturridge's situation at Chelsea reminds me of Babel's situation with us. Very highly rated as a youngster, but so far failed to live upto the talent they possess. When Babel was sold, lo of us thought he should have been given a good run, probably as a Centre forward before we sold him. Well, in Sturridge we have a player with similar attributes, pace, power, long shots, dribbling and with similar negative attributes, lazy, not particularly a team player.

In my opinion, they are pretty much similar players, although Sturridge is hyped up because he is English.

I think the question we need to ask is, as somebody else mentioned yesterday, Is Daniel Sturridge going to improve our squad? Is he the best we can get in this window, taking into account availability, affordability and a lack of Champions League and at reportedly 60k a week, he is taking a wage cut to join us. For me, the answer is YES!

The real AG

Babel was crap

Just hope he takes the greediness out of his game and becomes a good team player

Sturridge is nothing like Babel.

All good strikers are greedy, just ask Rushy, Aldridge, Shearer.

Sturridge is not my dream player to sign for lfc ,but sum very good points
1. 23
2. 10/12 million we paid 35 for AC/ 20 for SD/ 16/20 JH makes it look not bad price room for profit ??
3. 65 k a week not 100/110 for 30 y/o sat on bench
4. Made a stand against agents fees etc which we need to show we not a soft touch No more
5 done early
6 English played in perm
7 I think he will have big point to prove to the football world (hungry) wants to toe the line more then maybe 2/3 years ago
Point is we all want messi etc but things are getting very silly in football regards money ,I want Liverpool Fc to stay in football more then messi up front for 2 season s ie rangers etc YNWA lfc linc

Provides a left footed scoring threat to balance the front three a bit more too, or my opinion anyway.

Hi Ed.
With the iminent arrival of sturidge and ince lfc squad will be bolster. Bt i m little bit worried with the lack of experience both have. They were both good players. Bt lfc need a goal poacher at the moment who scores regularly. I want to know there is any chance of out an out striker coming to lfc.
Thanx.
Plz reply. {Ed002's Note - Sturridge is 23 now and has plenty of experience. I think BR is looking for more flixible players than the old fashioned centre forward.}

I for 1 am delighted with the arrival of sturridge and ince. I am very optimistic for the remainder of the season and our long term future. Over the last 5 or 6 games both enrique, downing and henderson have been like 3 new signings, this also with the return of lucas and the imminent return of borini makes our squad look very strong. I don't think BR wants an out and out striker as I've said in the past but more a front 3 who can interchange at will and share the goals. With sturridge and ince we have also borini, suso, sterling, enrique, suarez, downing, cole, johnson to call on for the front 3. not to forget yesil, morgan etc for back up and development. Alot of these players can also interchange in midfield and wing back positions with stevie, hendo, sahin, lucas, allen and jonjo. Defense is also very strong in all positions so I feel we will only get better as season progresses. But hey that's only my opinion and it's xmas and whatever happens Il still be cheering for the reds through the new year and beyond. So raise your spirits and bring in the new year with optimism and hope and who knows what might happen cos there'll always be an LFC to cheer on whoever wears the jersey, manages or owns the club. Merry Christmas to all, YNWA Simonpw

Totally agree - the squad is looking more competitive all round. The key to the rest of the season is consistency.

Yesterday after a long time i was not tensed, i knew we were going to win. Too many times this season we have only been just 1 up and hanging on (reading, Southampton, udinese). But to be honest fulham were absolutely rubbish. In fact the last 20-25 minutes were played at almost walking pace. But take away nothing from our performance. Skrtle and Agger were very good and Enrique has been in very good form since he has returned from his injury and finally after a long time Gerrard also played well. In fact i thought Suarez looked a bit tired and should probably been taken off to rest him for wednesday.
I think a special mention should go to Glen Johnson. He has been our best player this season me thinks.

I have been looking at goals scored by the top teams this season. manu-44, city-34, arsenal-32, everton-30, tottenham-30,west brom-26, chelsea-28 and liverpool-27.
Except for united all the other teams are pretty much same. If we are to buy sturridge and ince then it will help us to score more goals and that will help us to move up the table. Sturridge with his raw pace and ince with his movement, they will definitely get us more goals.

We never have been good against stoke in the league. Lets hope we can turn that around and get the three points on wednesday.

Merry Christmas everybody

Sturridge number 9 and ince number 10...that suits them both.

Carroll is 9 and Joe Cole is 10.

I think DS will prove a very shrewd signing.
He reminds me of a younger better Jermaine Defoe.
He will score buckets of goals given the right sevice

23 Dec 2012 14:10:03
Regarding our potential re-purchasing of T. Ince.
The fact of the matter, is that had he stayed at Liverpool, he'd have played very few minutes of league football and would no doubt have had his development move very slowly.
Since his move away though, he's played plenty of football and got a good taste of competitive league football. This is why he's developed into a better player than our staff may have noticed before now.

Red7.

Or we could of loaned him to a team like blackpool instead of selling him and then buying him back for millions more..

What part of we didn't sell him dont you understand. He refused to sign a new contract and we got compensation because he was under 23.
Andrew

I read sturridge has accepted 60K a week. That's really fair I think. It seems to me the player has moved for footballing reasons and this should be the type of player we want at this club.

I think the fee of 12 million is also quite good for a player of Sturridge's quaility. perhaps 2 mill high for me but that's January for you.

I think we all need to get behind this young lad and hopefully he will do exactly what he did at bolton and shoot us up the table.

Good signing IMO.

Ya 60k a week how he going to survive!!

We spend over £140 mil , we pay Ferrari money for fiesta, and we think we can make it as fast as Ferrari. Eds Allen, borini, sturridge they are not bad players, but we pay way over what they worth. We have to many not bad players.

In a way u r correct but we have too remember that we have had a few managerial changes bringing different game plans, it would be hard for any player to shine, that we know all to well, but what we r being shown is it can work, we need a champion team not a team of champions and that means depth with good squad players, then dropping 1 or 2 "star players" in will give us all we want, and this way with consitency on and off the pitch all involved will shine. Please dont take this as negative towards urself just putting it out there, merry xmas to all.

Hi eds please post this, this aint a rumour, but i cant believe all the negative so called Liverpool fans saying they dont want Sturridge. He wont make the squad worse will he will improve it, he hasnt the chance at Chelsea when he went out on loan on Bolton he scored 8 goals in 11 apperances. I think we need to give the lad a chance i think it will be a good signing, he is quick, skill full and he can score.

Kind regards

Scouse1892

The problem is he will cost 15m and 60-80k a week wages, are you sure he is the best value for that amount of money? I'm not!

There are plenty of cheaper strikers out there that could add just as much to our team as Sturridge. We are overpaying again, and come next Summer we will still be crying out for a proper striker.

Mace

The only reason why he has cost that much and personally I don't think it's that much of a big fee is because he is British. I totally trust in want Brendan is doing at our club. I think there is def good times ahead for LFC, but we need to be patient, we are in a rebuilding phase of the club and that involves balancing the books from the past managers and owners.

Regards
Scouse 1892

We screwed Chelsea for Torres, do you think they are going to let us have Sturrage on the cheap

There is a old saying never go back .listen to it tom ince more wast of money

Who taught you that saying, cesc fabregas?

s.p

Have you ever seen Tom Ince play?
I very much doubt it...
If we end up paying £6mil for him, that's an absolute steal, regardless if we let him go.
Jamie

Ian rush

Paul the ted

Ince is worth £6 million. Crystal Palace rate Zaha at £20 million and Ince is a much better player than him.

S.p. It is an old saying and in the main is true, it's rare that a player goes back to his old club and is a success, Fabregas has hardly set the world alight since going back to Barca. I wouldn't have Ince back for one reason only, there is massive pressure playing for Liverpool anyway but this would be intensified by the media before he kicks a ball and that's not fair on the kid, our transfer policy is allready scrutinised by everybody as it is, so the pressure on him would I think effect his game. But if he does come back good luck to the lad, hopefullyhe will rise to the pressure and be a great player for us.

Waro

Ince 6m, sturridge 15m, our club is mad

23 Dec 2012 12:44:39
First post here. Looked at some clips of Sturridge and after initial concerns about his ability it seem that most of his goals come in around the 6 yard box. Which if I'm not mistaken is exactly what we need, how many times have we had balls swung into use box just begging to be put in but nobody is there? Lets get off his back and support him and hopefully he'll take the goal scoring burden off Suarez.
Cheers, Andy. YNWA

23 Dec 2012 12:29:44
I think Butland, Sturridge & Ince in would be good for our squad.

I think Joe Cole still has to go as good player but high wage and not got the pace that BR wants now. Id also move out PACHECO has just aint gonna make it, it seems now. We ll assume Doni will go as well if Butland is captured . Id send Jones down there straight on loan and let Reina & Butland fight it out until Reina probably goes

Downing i would give him till the end of this season to come good, as starting to show positive signs.

I think then its a game of waiting to see if we can get the CL spot to see if we can step up a level of quality signings in the summer.

23 Dec 2012 11:30:32
Hi eds should we expect another striker apart from Sturridge? Any word on bony or lacina traore?
Great signing Sturridge. Good value as far as I can see considering young English talents transfer values are usually over-inflated. I.e. hendo, downing, Carroll etc.

Kyle {Ed002's Note - I would not hold your breath over the likes of Bony and Traore.}

23 Dec 2012 11:27:15
Question for eds. Assuming sturridge is having his medical and passes it do we have an agreement that he doesn't play for Chelsea again before the transfer window? If Torres gets injured and they need someone to play up front does it mean the transfer is off until Torres recovers or they buy a replacement?

Ps thanks for all the good work and happy Christmas

BreNdan {Ed002's Note - Sturridge will not be playing for Chelsea again unless something particularly unexpected happens.}

I am sick to death of all the negativity about Sturridge have any of you ever heard the saying too many chiefs and not enough Indians like there is at man city for me i think he will be a good addition to the squad. Sturridge throw the center sterling out wide and suarez out wide were he is most effective

We all moan about sturridge yes he probably isnt the out and out goalscorer we need but is this player available in this month? And with sturridge being viable option will he improve the team until the summer yes absolutly so stop moaning about price tags and all the rest only people that suffer from that is owners. As fans our team will be better so stop looking at financial and look at the fact wel be a better team qnd maybe if we sell andy in summer that will be the out and out striker.

Hi Eds,

Do you know what has happened to Assaidi?
Is he injured or is Rodgers leaving him out?

Cheers and Merry Chrismas {Ed001's Note - injured at the moment.}

23 Dec 2012 12:12:48
12 mil for sturridge puts it into perspective, 7 mil for Ba and 13 for Pato. Rodgers needs to realise just because you've worked with them before doesn't make them ideal signings over foreign alternatives, look at borini. the last time we really spent big abroad was Suarez and he's single handedly kept us ticking this season. it's time for us to look further afield that English, premier league and rodgers former players. just my views, cheers eds happy Christmas to all
YNWA

RobbieP {Ed001's Note - Pato is not a good player, he is the most over rated player since Beckham and he can't play two games in a row without getting injured. Ba has a degenerative knee condition that could end his career at any time, he might be bought cheaper and break down in his first game and never play again. That is why those two are, if anything, overpriced. Both are a huge risk.}

In response to Turron's post...

1. Kenny was and still is King. Just because some fans pointed out failings dosen't mean he isn't king anymore!

2. Real Pool fans get behind the team and manager-in-charge. Even (gulp!) Souey and Woy.

3. Merry Christmas. Haha

To add to the above comment, all those moaners who slated Kenny for his purchases - The downing who played yesterday and Enrique for the last month are also Kennys buys.

23 Dec 2012 11:27:05
Why would we pay £12m for Daniel Sturridge if we do it just shows how AWFUL we are at decision making and buying players.. Were after strikers because we can't score and apparently we have made a deal for 12m for a player who's scored 1 goal in 7 games this season and scored 11 goals in 30 matches last season.. Sh*t and waste of money, if he was a midfielder ok it's an ok scoring rate or a defender with that scoring rate fair enough very impressive.. He really is NOT good enough and definitely NOT worth 12m #FACT. Nobody can disagree with the stats..

I'll agree if it's a agree about you being
A moaning fool who won't even give the lad a chance before slagging him off!!

Lyndon

Yawn putting Fact at the end doesn't improve your so called argument

23 Dec 2012 12:11:39
He has been played out of position nd still managed to score 11 in 30 nd am sure last season Suarez scored same amount of goals. Was he rubbish?...let's get sturidge nd have home season nd then talk if he is failure...it's easy to assume that he would be failure but who knows. No one see future but only guess..

Harry oldbury

That goal scoring ratio isn't bad when u consider he played on the right wing so quit ur whining and just get behind BR and his potential new signings

Can disagree with those stats as those 7 games probably amount to very little actual game time, he's only used as a sub really. Since you enjoy stats so much though, I can tell you Sturridge has a much better minutes-per-goal ratio than Suarez across their respective Premier League careers. Stop moaning

I think he would be a great signin for us. Chelsea don't play him to his full strength. And if u want stats how about when he went on loan to Bolton for half a season and scored 8 goals in 12 games. But ur just one of those fans that look at the negative side all the time.

Eire red

He was playing on the wing last season you clueless clueless fan

Being a good footballer is more than just stats! You can right someone off before they even get here! Owen was bought on good stats by real and look how that turned out! Torres was bought because of good stats and look at that one! I am not jumping for glory about Sturridge but will give him a chance! And I like how we seem to be doing business early rather than late now!

12mil is a steal really , when you consider Wickham went to Sunderland for a similar price.

What a fickle shower you are.
Dalglish was King when he was in charge. Now he is blamed for many things.
Now Rodgers is in charge, you think he is great.

Turron

It's called supporting

Kenny dalglish will always be our king no matter what, he should be knighted for what he's done in football and charity, he won our 1st trophy in 6 years albeit the carling cup but a trophy is a trophy IMO.... FA cup final should of gone into extra time with carrolls goal over line but I guess that's football, you win some you lose some, you get decisions n u don't , the owners are trying to get the club financially sorted n then we will build from there, we have a good manager in Rodgers who needs time to sort the team out, still a lot of players to get rid of, we need to be realistic n agree that we are a mid table team at the moment n accept it, then we can build from there, onwards and upwards, I didn't expect much this season really, it's next season ill judge Rodgers on

Ack17

I do blame Kenny for many things. Rightly so. But he will always be the King.

I'm not fickle either, just rational.

Hi Ed's and fellow reds. Would like to get everyone's thoughts on two questions:

1) How good was Peter Beardsley? I'm of the younger generation but whenever I've watched past games he seems absolute class.

2) Who would people say is our best winger of all time?

Beardsley was class. one of the best at tracking back and tackling to win the ball back.
Peter Thompson was a class winger for me, Stevie Heighway was another.
robbie

Mine was barnes but the older fans might go for peter thompson r steve heighway.Tommy Irish Red

On his day Steve Mcmanaman was fantastic on the left or right. Hence his success at Real Madrid with Figo, Zidane, Raul et al.

Just my era and for me, beardsley and barnes were the best I've ever seen. Unplayable at times and part of a superb team. I loved watching Mcmanaman too but Beardsley had the edge as he could finish aswell.

The captain

Beardo was world class, why on earth did we ever let him go? He was the nearest thing to King Kenny in terms of style.

Favourite winger: John Barnes.

Fabulous player, crossing, free kicks, dribbling, shooting. Not only that but he put up with terrible racism and also put up with horrendous abuse from so called England fans. It's a shame injury robbed him of his pace. A great player and an even greater ambassador for the game

One of the best players of all time for both club and country. My favorite player hence the tag !! Beardsley's Boot's

24 Dec 2012 11:46:19
I never think of McManaman as a winger. He did play there, but was at his best in the free role behind the front two (unless Keane was marking him). Amazing.

All those that argue that Torres is/was nothing without Gerrard need to remember that without Macca, Robbie would never have scored the amount of goals that he did. Robbie would be the first to admit that btw.

Best winger - Heighway or Barnes.

Apparently Sturridge has been told he is not wanted at liverpool through social media by thousands of fans. Some messages have been vile towards him calling him names and leaving threats. Some fans give all of us a bad name.

Apparently some fans of other clubs come on this site to cause mischief.
robbie

Any fans who use social media to have a pop at players are not welcome at our club.

23 Dec 2012 10:56:04
Eds,fellow reds, lets look at the sturridge situation with a level head he's not the best player/ striker in the world but he has always got goals and that must be better than our third choice striker at the moment . Now I know you will be thinking we only have two strikers anyway. So that should answer that. He's better than NO ONE .

Good to see us getting hard-earned goals for our domination for once - hopefully we can keep it up.

Enrique has been in inspired form of late, hope he keeps up because he is getting assists (and should have been more than one goal) for his work. Downing looked a changed man yesterday - no responsibility shrugging, putting balls in for others and at the goal! Again, hope he can keep it up - even if it is just for the shop window.

Lucas has definitely evened up our team, giving defensive balance and freeing up Gerrard and Allen. Can't wait to see Sahin alongside Lucas either.

Allen was rested yesterday but your right lucas does improve our team

Neither Allen nor Sterling were rested yesterday. Pretty sure they both played. Resting a player means they dont take the pitch!

Good to see liverpool have learnt their lesson from the last transfer window and are trying to do business early.
Eds have we anything more on ince?
Also do you know if Liverpool have any CB lined up since Carra has said he might retire at the end of the season.

Kyle {Ed002's Note - There is nothing new today.}

One rumour i heard was that Carragher was offered the Player managers job at Wolves last summer. But he turned it down.

Merry Xmas to all, Reds and Ed's, We need to look at now and get the very best results we can but we must also look to the future and this is key for us. At the start of this season we knew deep down it was going to be a hard slog but we had hope in our hearts, we always do. BR is taking us much further than i think most can see or give him credit for. if you look back at Sturridge's career it is staring us all in the face how good he will be in this system, but it will also take time for him to gain consitency and an understanding of the teams movements and ability's, same goes for the current team. We have a very bright future, and what the club and we need most is stand together and throw the full weight of our support behind LFC and show BR, The Squad, The Club and each other that not only do we cheer, rant, rave, laugh, cry, scream, sing, we LOVE LFC. We will improve we have already, walk on, YNWA.

Seems Sturridge will have his medical today. Personally, i think it will be a good move, we know how greedy he can be, but lets face it, he knows where the goal is and can only enhance our chances of converting chances to goals
So who next ? Walcott ? I hope so, with Walcott, Sturridge, Suarez and Borini, it's a fine recepi for goals goals goals!
I'm looking forward to the second half of the season, and i seriously believe that a top 4 place is there for the taking, and i think we will take it
All that's left to say is - Happy Christmas Eds, Macca and readers/Posters....Have a bit of faith, get behind the owners, manager and players and the rewards will come.

Merry Christmas first of all to the first Chelsea supporter I genuinely respect (read Ed002), Ed001 and my dear fellow Reds

Reading about the reservations regarding the signing of Sturridge, the most common one seems his selfishness or his tendency to do too much, I believe sometimes it's players like him (Suarez, Ronaldo, Robben etc) who can take a game by the scruff of their neck when the team is not being able to break through the defence of a team on any given night, something we have not been stranger to. Plus he's a good finisher so for me he can only add an extra dimension to our team. So personally looking forward to seeing him in Red.

Not a rumour.

Just bought ,He ain't heavy, on ITunes. Listened to it whilst watching the highlights from the Fulham game and feeling very proud to be part of the Liverpool family.

Bring on Stoke!

Levans.

I'd say it sounded better than the anfield crowd who were dead as usual yesterday. Why has anfield got so quiet in the last 2 years? There is serious chanting fine at away games.

I don't think the crowd really relaxed until the third goal when the mood certainly changed.

I personally think it has a huge impact on the team and we should be raising the roof every week -

It's been quiet for a lot longer than 2 years.

23 Dec 2012 10:39:34
We now have in all likelihood sturridge ince suso borini Suarez sterling downing and assasidi for the front three positions. Why not loan out one of suso assasidi or borini to Blackpool. Look how it has benefited shelvey and ince.

23 Dec 2012 10:36:34
it does,nt matter who wears the shirt. as long as they give 100% every game then they deserve our support. if anyone thinks that they are c**p then so be it. Supporters are meant to support. Good times and bad times, Support the club. i even support the groundsmen and tea ladies. they represent Liverpool F.C. thats enough for me. Sign off with a merry christmas to one and all, especially the Eds. without them we aint got a forum.

Ys alot of people slating sturridge, not long ago a.cole named his starting 11 of players hes played wiv, and he had sturridge in there, over the likes of robben, pires, duff on his day........this is someone who he sees train every day, who apparently mercs everyone aswell, under AVB he looked unreal at times, people forget think he jus has pace and some skill......couldnt be more wrong, the lad can pick out some passes that seem impossible

I'm starting to warm to him after seeing how he played under AVB.

23 Dec 2012 09:39:24
In regards to downing, even a broken clock is right twice a day. The lads got a lot of making up to do.

The guy starts to play well and people are still on his case, fair enough his liverpool career hasnt gone well but early last season he had a few shots that hit the bar, then his confidence dropped and people like you started to get on his back, maybe if those goals went in then he would of been the player hes starting to look like

Difference was he actually played like the winger we paid all that money for, taking on men, putting in crosses, and what an excellent goal (shame the one a few minutes later didn't go in).

Merry Christmas Ed and all your fellow Eds. Thank you, and Best Wishes for 2013.

Quite happy to see our relationship with Blackpool blossoming with Shelvey and Wilson going there and now Robinson. Gives us a brilliant opportunity to help develop our younger players while I hope it gets to a point we could become front runners if they were to dig up a gem.

Brilliant result yesterday, now if we do make the transfers this gives us good depth; Sturridge(nearly certain) and Ince gives us an option for us to go in to a game and the opposition not having a clue on our game plan with Suarez, Ince, Downing, Assaidi, Sterling, Sturridge and even Suso all able to operate in the 3 up top.

One thing I have liked in recent weeks is that it has become apparent to me that Rodgers is a brilliant motivator, and has definitely instilled confidence back in to certain players: Enrique, Downing even Reina and Henderson. I dont think last season Downing would of even looked to go for goal, or dare make that pass for Gerrards opener.

All we need now is consistency.

-HullRED

I think in the summer we should purchase a traditional number 10 and that should do us. However suso will be a year older and in the little bits I've seen of texxeria he looks unbelievable.

23 Dec 2012 09:34:08
I said it when we where liked with him, sturridge will be a good signing.i think he will do very well for us.

23 Dec 2012 09:31:32
Why are so many fans giving Sturridge a hard time already? Give the lad a chance to prove himself, like we do with everyone. The lad has some serious quality and will improve our squad greatly. He hasn't had a fair crack at it with Chelsea were he has got a sustained run of games, and I believe if he gets the game time with us that he can be a real weapon. He's young, English, got pace, skill and can finish.
Good signing. Get behind the boy!

Kyle

5 points off 3rd, if we can take at least 7 points from our 3 games over xmas we will be right in the mix for a top four spot, very important time for us. we need to make sure we dont slip up again. confident of beating qpr and sunderland, stoke will be much tougher i believe.

That's a big 'if' and we have not had consistency in four years now.

Keep your head back on the earth la, most important thing for us is just to take it one game at a time, this sort of thinking really deflated us after the villa game.

Right before the Villa game some fool predicted we were going to win our next 4 games.

Concentrate on one match at a time!

How can journalists and other fans label us as a one man team, "when Suarez doesn't score liverpool having nothing"
This is complete garbage, yes we have big time players Gerrard and Suarez but we also have players that go unoticed who I think don't get the praise they deserve, I'm talking about Lucas and Johnson.

Since Lucas has returned we have looked a complete team 4 wins out of 5 and improving all the time, exception (villa game a one off).

Lucas return has given the team something that's been missing all season, stability. Lucas is very underrated but I think he's one of the unsung heros of our team.

Johnson is another name a better R/B on current form in the premiership, the guys been different class all season when he's playing.

BR work is begining to pay off we aren't a one man team that we are constantly labeled, BR is developing a team ethos where players are picked on merit and technicality and what hunger they bring to the team, NOT reputation.

I think BR is playing a blinder with the expected arrival of Sturridge for a reported 12 million. The guy is a very good player who under BR guidance will only improve for the better. In 12 months time I guarantee you Sturridge will be touted as a 30 million pound striker, our style of play will bring the best out of Sturridge, unlike Chelsea's style.

The good times are not far off again my fellow reds, a few more wins over Xmas and the top four is a possibility. Sturridge Suarez and Sterling up top with Lucas Gerrard and Suso supporting from midfield with the excellent Johnson and co at the back and a little luck and the odd penalty we could end up surprising a few people in 2013.

Optimistic red.....

All very realistic....until you mentioed us getting the odd penalty :)

To break jan transfers:
Fsg are very reluctant to dish out more than 20 mil so here is the break down of how it will be spent:
12 mil sturidge or another st
4-6 mil ince or another winger
Rest on a loan move of a mistery player for a supprise( most likely jeffren)
There is no new midfielder need as shelvey and henderson have stepped up.
A midfielder will be signed at summer after sahin leaves or it might be sahin himself.

maybe if rodgers played enrique and downing from the start and in their natural postions they would be in the top four now.

Maybe, if I think hard enough, I too can find something to criticise BR about even though we won. Another miserable day of moaners posts...
MartinR

It's not that. It's the fact they're only starting to play now.

"they would be top 4 by now" surely you meant "we" not "they"

A few weeks ago you were probably begging Rodgers to sell our 'deadwood' and 'crap' in Downing and Enrique. Supporters like you are so petty and useless.

Got to say Enrique is looking good going forward and downing played well I agree. But let's not forget Fulham were really bad and we had all day on the ball high up the pitch. We lost at home to a pretty average side the week before and were awful. I am seeing encouraging signs here and there but before I believe we are improving we need to put 3-4 home victories together against a top 6 side.

Reading about sturidge. .not big fan but decent buy nd could prove to be bargain..I will back him up nd just thinking maybe maybe we can get David villa on loan nd front 3 of villa-sturidge- Suarez could be deadly with interchanging position nd sterling , borini nd ince or assaidi as subs nd backups would make us solid..

Merry christmas to all the eds and a happy red year!

Hi everyone, well today was a welcome change to all us patient fans and eds alike. This is the effort and performance we should see week in week out. Now we need good buys in Jan and we should be fighting for fourth spot with some sort of consistency of course.
I will not criticise anything because there is no perfect game so let positivity prevail today and let us support the lads and manager.
Question to ed001 who would you buy huntelaar or sturridge? thanks
hibsylfc {Ed001's Note - I would rather have Sturridge out of those two, partially because of the pace, but also because I just don't rate Huntelaar at all. At least Sturridge has a lot of potential, if it can be brought out of him.}

23 Dec 2012 01:07:12
ed's whats your opinion on managers wanting Winter breaks?
MA {Ed001's Note - ridiculous idea, we get our bad weather at such varied times that the calendar would be in complete disarray every season. If players are tired, then rest them between matches.}

The only reason certain clubs want a winter break is so that they can play friendlies in Asia etc. It is a money making scheme from those involved. The minute you say "yes you can have a winter break but that is it no touring etc ,they don't want it". Great site Ed,s.Keep up the fantastic work.

The Europa Cup needs a re-think though Ed. The ESPN commentator yesterday was saying that Liverpool's match was their 30th this season, the most of any Premier League club.
And yet Fulham had only played 18 games. That can't be right. Maybe there should be a selected break - teams in Europe !?

I am made up for Downing I backed him last season but was becoming frustrated with him much more recently. This is unfair as he was out of the team and then being played out of position. I think that both he and Enrique have both put more effort in recently and it is beginning to show. I feel that if our squad plays as a unit and adds a goal scorer we will become a formidable force once again. The way in which we bounced back from the embarrassment vs Villa shows that the players are now realising that they are involved in the hardest job in football. Re-establishing us as a major player both domestically and abroad. This is what BR must have meant by getting players who will give it their all for our badge.
Scouse_Pride
We beat stoke away last season in the League Cup so we can beat them there on Boxing Day, I hope SD finds some consistent form and scores some goals during the festive period.

23 Dec 2012 00:22:17
If sturridge can cut out his selfishness, then I feel he could be really good for us

23 Dec 2012 00:17:06
Would have preferred demba ba to sturridge. Cheaper and scores more goals

Demba Ba isn't as good as people say or think he is. When the players buy out clause is met, it won't be by any of the big spending clubs like, City, United or Chelsea. Why is that do you think ? He will end up at Spurs or Everton or QPR
Dan Sturridge is by far a better option for us

Great result had a fiver on 4-0
---------------------------------------------------

Waro,

most people would have posted their winnings, but it seems you have not? I believe you and the rest of your happy posts *cough*, many will not . It's a shame your mate Ozone has not been on, odd that really considering he has been put in his place by two Ed's in the last few days and then we win.

Great result, we (real fans) knew it was coming, now all we need is real support (for the players and staff) and who knows what we can achieve.

Just one important point, please don't sing because we are winning, we are playing excellent football. We are Liverpool, sing for your love of the club, win , lose or draw.

Ozone, Pacman time to jog on, sorry to post this but these people need to realise we do not forget cloak and daggers behaviour.

Last thing if you disagree, please leave your rationale below, if not I will assume you are a fan of tictac's, manc's etc coming on here because you feel lonely on your banter page.

K79

Plus if I'm not mistaken, wasn't it you with your tactical nonsense trying to sell Allen and Lucas together in a 433. Well let's just be thankfull that Rodgers sees the same as what we, the lads who go the game, and had the courage to drop Allen and play a 451. Far more balance to the team.

Ozone

23 Dec 2012 08:40:09
K79, I think it was co op who asked the day before the game what score everybody thought it would be and I put a fiver on 4-0 and 4-1 because thats what I thought it would be. Feel free to check,it was only friday. Are you really that sad that this is what you have resorted to? ha. Have you thought ozone and who ever else you have slagged off might not be as ad as you and have friends and may well have been out? Just a thought.

Waro

Yes your right Waro mate, I had a few after the game. Feel good factor with the result. In fact, yesterday it was clear within the first five minutes that we were going to pull off a result, the team had balance and fluency and I'm pleased to say Downings starting to find form, long way to go but made up that he scored. Gerrard was also pulling the strings and the formation allowed him to do it. Nonetheless, Fulham were poor. Big test on Boxing Day and what concerns me is the nature of our approach play. It is not fast flowing enough to break down a 'bus parking' team such as Stoke. If Allen plays against Stoke, we have no chance of penetrating their defence, they'll just soak it all up.

Shak, K79, Bendingdong and Co, you keep trumpeting Rodgers signings. Allen, Sahin, Assiadi all on the bench. Sturridge looks imminent, to be fair not a bad signing if he gets his head down, drops the attitude and works. Ince the same at the right money.

Ozone

Great result for the lads keep them happy for xmass , been up and down year but think we going the right way under mr Rogers ,does anyone know when borini will be bk or roughly bk in training
YNWA lfc linc

Think he's just started full training, saw I read something the last two days.

Keith

I've heard Borini will be bouncing back around Jan 22nd 2013. But there might be newer updates concerning his rehabilitation from his injury.

Obviously Rodgers will want him game fit before he gives him a run out, just to get the sharpness in his game back, it's been a long lay off for him considering he has only just moved.
