Eds, how much say do clubs get with who they let go on international duty?

Believable0 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - Not much. They can claim a player is not fit and if the Country wish to contest that it can.}

23 Mar 2016 22:42:38
Cheers. I suspect a lot of clubs ask a player to claim injury if they require him and it's a pointless friendly.

{Ed002's Note - It is not overly common but MU used to do it with Giggs.}

23 Mar 2016 21:56:29
Question for Harry if your around why do you have more names than a high school register? What's the obsession man I really don't get it I don't know how the eds can keep track let alone me lol.

Believable8 Unbelievable5

23 Mar 2016 22:11:58
Dorset Red might soon have the same number of names after watching Harry respond to him today (Dessert, Dosset etc. ) ;O)

23 Mar 2016 23:21:13
Hoola haha that's so true.

24 Mar 2016 04:43:20
Little bit of fun when everyone are too serious over here ha ha 😎😎😎.

24 Mar 2016 08:19:56
Fair enough mate just think your hiding from someone aren't you? Maybe mi5 or police.

23 Mar 2016 19:38:10
Christian Benteke: "I would have never signed if I wasn't first choice". Don't want players with a mentality like that at the club. You need to earn first place.

Believable17 Unbelievable8

23 Mar 2016 21:06:37
I don't think it's fair to judge him on that Taurus. Rodgers probably told him he was first choice striker. There is no way he could have predicted Klopp taking over and looking at Benteke as 4th or 5th choice. Typically players that cost 32 mil would be first choice lol.

23 Mar 2016 21:23:23
Oh my Christian dear. Do the talk on the pich sonny.

23 Mar 2016 21:38:31
Then, he should have kept quiet and never said that Manahawk because that only shows he's not ready to do his part and earn a place meaning, no matter how bad I play, I will still be first choice. Good luck with that stinking attitude under Klopp.

23 Mar 2016 23:41:43
Well there's only two possible issues with why Benteke feels "ignored". Either Klopp and the coaching staff has failed him, by not providing him with constructive criticism (which I doubt), or he has failed to acknowledge his criticism and/ or dismiss it entirely. Which as everyone should know is quite possibly the stupidest thing you can do, especially as a performer.

23 Mar 2016 23:44:15
So Klopp gets grilled by pundits and Ed's for publicly having ago at him and yet his Coke out to the press with this latest drival. Balotelli esq this season for me. Minimal effect or effort and think he has a Devine right to lead our line.

23 Mar 2016 23:57:54
To me it just says he thinks he's been prejudiced by Klopp and doesn't understand (or doesn't believe) he needs to change. Spells the end in my book.

24 Mar 2016 00:13:09
Bad as he's been, he's scored three or four winners and another couple that have got us points. Comparing him to Balotelli is beyond stupid and ridiculously short sighted. He's played like a mid table centre forward for us. Balotelli was, and is, a bottom six centre forward.

24 Mar 2016 01:56:14
In comparison to what he should of scored with just the 1 on 1's he has missed. There is a comparison to Balotelli. I will add to the point. He is lazy, his positioning is terrible. He does nothing for the team when he is on the pitch. He is outspoken. All the same things Balotelli was for us.
8 goals this season is of a mid table team for there highest paid for striker who is static and makes the team vulnerable.
Due to his lack of work ethic that he shows. The rest of the team suffer in having to be pulled out of position and left to do more running in the later stages of the game because he is unwilling. Again, just like Balotelli did.
As short sighted as you in you thinking there is no comparison

Proof is in there for all to see. Fundamentally the best strikers in history have had a fantastic work rate to get to the status they have.

24 Mar 2016 01:58:11
some players need to be first choice in order to settle into form.

24 Mar 2016 03:21:22
Price tag means naf all. I understand things have not been easy for him, but we are Liverpool. We need players who want to give it all for the club. A perfect example is Hendo. There was a time where no one wanted him at the club, but he kept working hard and made it to captain. I love the guy now and find him inspirational. Benteke needs to understand great footballers can adapt their game these days, not just sulk about being benched. He is behind Firmino, Sturridge and Origi for a specific reason now. That they all give a lot for the team and he doesnt. Yes he has scored a decent amount of goals, but that doesn't cut it. he's always on the edge of the box or not making the right runs. When Allen, Can, Hendo, Milner etc. are making those runs it makes me think does he even know he's a striker? I do wish he finds form but sadly i think he wouldve been better off somewhere else.

24 Mar 2016 04:36:05
Unfortunately many on here knew he wouldn't fit our style of play and would need to adapt. Unfortunately it seems he's either choosing not to, or incapable of adapting.

If he had the right attitude, and was prepared to reject the adoration of those lauding the odd wonder goal, and accept he has much to learn to be the very best, then he has a chance, I just don't see it with Liverpool anymore.

Many on this site were wanting Liverpool to stump up for Aubemeyang, Lacazette, Dybala, Vietnam, Icardi or anyone remotely similar to a hard working Suarez replacement rather than a target man - frankly not sure what Rodgers or the committee were thinking with this one (or similarly Balo) .

24 Mar 2016 05:23:19
I would just like to say. I remember when we first signed Ings, he said in his club interview that he didn't want to just take the number 9 shirt, he wanted to earn it.

On here he was slated for that, people questioned his desire and his mentality, saying he couldn't handle being at a "top club" etc.

Now because Benteke is doing the polar opposite, fans are slating him too. I just don't even.

24 Mar 2016 05:29:27
he is used to being the big fish now he is playing for a man whose demands are of the highest standards, he cannot adapt, his speech was laughable, has he actually watched himself on dvd because his words and his actions don't add up. I think he could have bought himself some time if we had seen some effort from him, when you don't move it will be hard to fit into any system. The first thing any player should do when a new manager comes in is to try and create a good impression his work rate has been pathetic. I hope like you do Zimbo we buy players from now on that will fit our system and style of play, not buy now hope for the best later, that type of transfer needs to be a thing of the past.

24 Mar 2016 06:01:15
Benteke is 25 goals a season striker. i remembered andy cole through a patch of 10-15 games without goal and ferguson keep playing him, but he is lucky the others are scoring. so after that dry spell, andy cole score like crazy.

{Ed001's Note - Andy Cole kept trying to get on the end of things, Benteke is not. You can not compare a hard working player who is struggling with a lazy one that is struggling. The hard worker offers something, even when he is not scoring, the lazy one offers nothing.}

24 Mar 2016 07:29:56
If Benteke had the hard work of Welbeck ( Only works hard and no real substance ), He would be inside the top 3 strikers in Europe.

23 Mar 2016 19:19:08
Lot of benteke qoutes. If a coach doesnot want a player, he is not going to play. Coach always win. It is easy for them to manage players who can understand managers thoughts.

But again if benteke is going, we may still need a striker, I am not satisfied with origi as a striker, not sure if lallana can supply goals or assists. Again fitness issue with sturridge and ings.

So only firmino being positive factor and others expected to contribute.

Midfield, future of allen, lucas, milner.

If we bring in two more defenders, then its okay if we let skrtel and toure go.

But iam still not sure about lb and i am not seriously considering scouse cafu to take over as rb.

He has not shown anything to prove whether he can be better than.

Believable0 Unbelievable11

{Ed002's Note - You seem to have forgotten Sturridge and Ings.}

23 Mar 2016 19:37:47
Fitness issues with studge and ings will be a hurdle. i am not worried about studge as most of us are familiar with what can happen, thanks to hodgson, he never recovered.

Ings wull certainly end up as new signing for klopp.

23 Mar 2016 23:34:58
I personally think zings will come on leaps and bounds under Klopp. Let's not forget befor his injury we were all backing the lad because he showed the type of desire the likes of Benteke are sadly lacking. I'm backing him to be our Vardy next season.

24 Mar 2016 00:05:43
Sturridge, Ings, Origi and Firmino are enough (hopefully not needing to pull Firmino from attacking midfield too often) .

Ings with Couts, Firmino and Llalana just behind will be intense.

23 Mar 2016 18:26:28
Is the Liverpool vs Barcelona game being played in Dublin eds?

Believable4 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - The schedule on the press release says it will be in Europe with the venue to be confirmed but the UPI wire service says it will be at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin but the contract has yet to be signed.}

24 Mar 2016 06:24:46
Is it easy to get tickets for the friendly games? You can get a flight to Dublin for as low as 8 quid sometimes.

23 Mar 2016 18:12:27
Ed001 our defence has been awful for years how can it be addressed this summer.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - bringing in Matip will hopefully go a long way to changing things. A lot of coaching work will make a difference too. The way we play will help as well, with teams being more cautious as they see us become more dangerous going forward.}

23 Mar 2016 18:31:31
New keeper?

And Gomez to make a full recovery would be excellent.

{Ed001's Note - I was assuming that would be happening anyway.}

23 Mar 2016 18:43:11
Ed01, Do you think we should be looking at another CB apart from Matip already bought in? Someone must be moving then clearly to make space for him?
What's the club plans for Gomez? Would he be loaned?

Thanks for your reply mate.

{Ed001's Note - I think we have to look for another one, as we can't trust Sakho and Lovren to stay fit. Gomez will need time to get back to his best. Klopp prefers not to use loans if there are other options.}

23 Mar 2016 18:51:34
Do you expect both Lovren and Sakho to remain at the club if we go for an established fist team CB in the summer. I just can't see that happening mate.

{Ed001's Note - I expect them to fight for a place and one is likely to leave next January or the following summer.}

23 Mar 2016 23:47:35
Could it be that Liverpool have already made their mind up and it is Skrtel. And he's lacklustre display against Southampton is because he's now thinking. Oh well I'm off in the summer. Why should I bother?

23 Mar 2016 20:17:05
You rate Matip then ed? Is he rated? Sorry if it has been asked.

{Ed001's Note - I haven't seen him, but he is very highly rated in Germany.}

23 Mar 2016 18:06:39
Ed1 what in your opinion will happen with Lucas this summer? Contract runs out next summer. I personally would keep him as a squad player but am aware he will want too start most games.

Believable3 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - I think he will be kept as a squad player, to cover centre back and midfield.}

24 Mar 2016 00:08:20
Hope you're right. perfect fit with his attitude, experience and versatility. Also a good role model for the youngsters coming through like Stewart etc.

Eds, every time I see Ojo, I am really impressed with him. Besides the few minutes he played against Southampton, I can only think of Exeter where he got a decent opportunity.

At the end of some games I always feel like the chance for him to come in and spread the game is there. But we always end up bringing on Benteke/ Origi/ Allen.

Is the lack of playing time just the club being rightly cautious over his development? Wondering if you might have any insight into what the youth coaches think of him as well.

thanks a lot,
Hwb.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - partially and partially because we needed players to control games, which is not something Ojo can do.}

23 Mar 2016 17:13:15
The lad should be starting ahead of Lallana. I can't figure out Y we cancelled each and every youngsters loan deals. What's happening with Kent?

23 Mar 2016 18:01:49
Cancel them hopefully to change the structure of the hole set up.

24 Mar 2016 00:12:33
Harry you seem to keep wanting to sub in half the u21s every week lol. I'd love to see Ojo get his shot as a flying wide forward, but to start in front of Llalana is a bit much. Stick him on when that's what we need to stretch the game.

23 Mar 2016 12:53:28
Eds. Have any of you watched anymore of Marko grujic? And do you think he will slot straight in to first team or another for the future. Only asking cause I've seen nothing of the lad.

Believable0 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - no mate, it is not a league that is easily available to watch.}

23 Mar 2016 13:20:22
Can't imagine a 19yr old who's never played in this country is going to be a first team regular. Possible, but maybe a bit optimistic.

23 Mar 2016 13:36:34
His salary is in line with that of a first team player. Grujic will definitely be a regular in the match day squad at least. He is widely regarded as one of the most talented teenagers in Europe. What is unclear is where he will play. For Red Star he is more or less a box to box midfielder but he can play a holding role, an attacking role, and even a wide role.

He may not start every game but he will most definitely be a regular for the senior side. You don't pay reserves that much money!

23 Mar 2016 14:16:45
EMS what are we paying him?

23 Mar 2016 14:27:48
age should not come into it, if you are good enough you are old enough, and we could do with some goals from midfield, let's not put him on a pedestal and allow him to come in and settle, if his attitude is right and he works hard ie listens to klopps instructions he should be fine.

23 Mar 2016 15:00:13
I doubt it's 20k a week. I'm sure it's a lot more.

{Ed001's Note - it is a lot more and had to be or he would not have qualified for a work permit.}

23 Mar 2016 15:21:10
Of course it's a lot more! Why else do you think we're in a financial hole, because the money men haven't got a clue fiscally. We have been commiting financial suicide for a long time now and the transfer committee has to take some of the flack also. If they did their jobs properly we'd have some Jamie Vardys, RIyad Majrez's, Deli Ali's, Iwobi's, Aki's etc so we wouldn't have to pay ridiculous transfer fees and wages and be in such a financial mess!

23 Mar 2016 15:26:08
Let's just hope the fans give him a proper chance to bed in.
Would hate to see them get on his back as they did Henderson, Firmino and markovic etc because he doesn't play as well as Paul pogba in hire first season.

23 Mar 2016 16:31:35
Brendas got that perfect.

23 Mar 2016 17:33:13
Im sure every other of the premier league clubs would like those players too Brenda. Looks like they have all got it wrong in that case.

23 Mar 2016 17:47:10
I wasn't being figuritive Rover. Why do we have to spend millions when other teams are unearthing gems for peanuts. Surely there we have a problem in the recruiting dept?

24 Mar 2016 08:04:36
If we did that dentist then we'd just have the boo-boy mob moaning that we never go after star players and are just taking average players from lower leagues.

23 Mar 2016 12:10:10
I think that when it comes to buying another CB, like Sule, who i know little about, we need to be aiming more for their character than flashy names and overpriced premiums.

I think we need to do some proper scouting on how they will fit in, their character, their age and their maturity.

The reason i say this is because neither sakho nor lovren are leaders. Both good centre backs but the pair of them could do with a hummels, vidic, carragher character next to them. Its an inbalanced relationship, the two of them look to eachothee for guidance but neither will give it.

Especially with toure leaving, who has a wealth of experience, we have a problem.

The centre back we buy needs to be like toure, only not old and broken hopefully. I do not care if some people want the next beckenbauer. I don't want a ball playing centre back, or anything fancy about him.

I want someone who we can depend on, a true leader at the back. All the best teams have them.

Vidic, kompany, puyol, carragher, hummels, godin. Godin especially would be perfect but that is beyond unrealistic.

In short, i think there is a certain kind of high quality leader we need to buy if we are to buy another centre back. If we buy someone who is simply another good centre back, the same problems will remain.

Believable1 Unbelievable11

23 Mar 2016 13:02:34
Another CB would see one of Lovren or Sakho sold in-order to balance the books. I can't see 4 CB all wanting regular game time at the club.

23 Mar 2016 16:16:44
Sakho, lovren, sule, matip is what i'm guessing. With Ilori as an alternative, plus Gomez who can cover if major injuries. That will mean Skrtel, Toure, Jones and Wisdom leaving.

23 Mar 2016 16:28:40
Dessert

I highly doubt any club could afford 6 specialist CB.

23 Mar 2016 19:53:52
Ice cream with hundreds and thousands for me please Harry xx😊.

23 Mar 2016 20:30:09
Lucas, Can Gomez could all fill in at CB - not suggesting they should (apart from Lucas whose looked class there) .

I'd happy see the back of Skrtel and have Lucas playing there when needed.

23 Mar 2016 21:50:26
We don't need another CB except either Sahko or Lovren leave which won't happen this summer. Jan or next summer? Prolly.

23 Mar 2016 21:51:40
I just feel we're buying too many decent players without looking in to their character, which is what top managers like ferguson do instead of just buying a load of expensive names.

We need to buy the right players for optimum squad balance, not the most hyped or exciting.

Matip on a free is a step in the right direction.

However i feel that we really need a cool head and a leader in defence, like hyypia. They don't grow on trees but all top teams have them. Even if they play for an inferior side, thry will add a new dimension to the team.

23 Mar 2016 11:46:45
Eds what do you make of Benteke comments today were he has said the coach wanted him at BVB but now he ignores me. He also said that in Jan he wanted to fight for his place but will now see what happens at end of season.

Sound to you that he knows he is going to be sold in summer?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - After the embarressing actions of Klopp at the weekend I expect he will leave, but the club will need his agent to start working on iy soon.}

23 Mar 2016 13:28:52
Cheers for reply mate, its clear Klopp doesn't want him really. let's see what happens.

23 Mar 2016 13:40:48
What was embarrassing about it Ed? I feel like 20 years ago a player would use that as motivation. I realize this isn't 20 years ago but still.

{Ed002's Note - It was unprofessional and not something to be done in public.}

23 Mar 2016 14:05:28
20 years ago you didn't have cameras from almost every country in the world at the game, watching every move that is made. I agree with Ed2 unprofessional and embarrassing.

23 Mar 2016 14:39:44
to sum it all up re bentenke is simple, he joined Liverpool having been bought by Brendan rogers who no doubt told him he would be a regular starter, then Rodgers got sacked the guy replacing Rodgers which was klopp did not fancy him, benteke had the chance through his own performances to change klopps mind, he has not taken that chance and is now surplus to requirements, the public rebuking he got was the final straw, hence todays statements from big ben, end result in a manager vs players situation, the manager always wins therefore bentenke will be leaving Liverpool fc, david Sullivan sensing that Liverpool could be looking to sell is declaring his admiration for the player as long as the price is right for west ham, although they have other targets in mind first. Another expensive flop we shall be losing money on.

23 Mar 2016 14:45:08
anyone able to lip read what was said? haha.

23 Mar 2016 14:46:00
I know the eds have different views on this but I have to say that being dressed down in public is unnecessary and in my opinion it should never happen be it at Liverpool football club and its playing staff or employees down your local tescos. There is constructive criticism then there is that.

{Ed001's Note - so what do you recommend then? When you consider he has been given private dressing downs and ignored them and the option to take further action privately is not available to the manager of a football club due to the contracts these molly coddled blerts are on. Personally I think it is about time more of them got reminded of their duty to us.}

23 Mar 2016 15:04:23
What embarrassing actions were these? :)

Bent eke has been given plenty of chance in my opinion. But 8 goals in 32 games for a striker that cost 32 mil is a pretty poor return.

Origi has been as effective if not more than benteke. "Ignored" is the wrong word, "unimpressed" is probably a more apt description.

23 Mar 2016 15:11:35
Ed001 is bang on - Klopp clearly has had enough and he's had chances remember. Read Benteke's interview today and it's clear he's not got the attitude, let alone the aptitude, to develop his 'style'. Problem is he's not ineffective, he 100% 'effects' the team negatively when he plays. I said stand behind him, he's a Liverpool player after all, after reading his whinging comments? Not so much.

23 Mar 2016 16:19:23
Hes played 580 minutes under Klopp and done nothing. He says he can press and do what Klopp asks, but instead either makes the wrong moves backwards or stays still like a tree. Benteke only has himself too blame.

23 Mar 2016 16:04:40
How many young people today respond to being dressed down especially in a public setting though ed? I'm in the army where points have to be reinforced in an aggressive manner but your as likely to get a complaint as you are a positive reaction nowadays.

{Ed001's Note - then they are not mentally strong enough to be much good when the pressure hits in big games. That is why you weed them out now.}

23 Mar 2016 17:07:58
I would say klopps done no wrong. Us fans boo slate and shout stuff to players all the time because we are PASSIONATE, klopp has had enough of people not putting in a proper shift or Not doing as told and has lost it. I for one back him all the way and anyone who doesn't pull that shirt on and give it there all leave.

23 Mar 2016 17:45:03
I kinda agree with Ed001, I've worked as a chef in michellin starred kitchens for nearly a decade, I've been more than dressed down in my time, pans thrown at me dragged across the room by my apron, it never broke me. yeah it made me feel crappy, but every time i came back wanting to fight harder smarter and always with a smile.

i tend to agree wit the 'weed um out' mentality, but even looking at the younger chefs nowdays, you're going to get guys and girls crying complaining and quitting which causes a whole host of problems.

are people getting softer?

23 Mar 2016 18:06:18
Yes they are softer and in all walks of life, everyone knows their rights the older generation had thick skin and the one before thicker still but things are pink and fluffy in many ways now and we have to move with the times.

23 Mar 2016 23:57:07
Tell you what. At 26 years of age and a established premier league player. If he can't do what is being asked of him and he's going to cry like a baby. Good riddance. Sturridge got slated by Klopp and Gerrard. Had his say. Said no more and does what he's asked to do. Give Danny Ings full fitness and you watch that less established player put more in to his 1st game than Benteke has all season.

For £120,000 a week who wouldn't run there heart out for 90 mins twice a week and to do for it the best club in the world.

24 Mar 2016 00:24:45
This is totally in line with what Souness was saying recently. Players assume absolutely no responsibility for their performances these days. I can't believe Benteke can say that he's an effective presser and mover. If he was, then he'd be in the team every week. Klopp isn't an idiot, and is not trying to be mean to Benteke. He knows a good presser and mover when he sees one, and if he isn't convinced by Benteke's ability to do that then I believe Klopp is right.

24 Mar 2016 05:46:19
the least he could do is accept responsibility for his own actions, its meant to be a mans game, time for him to man up.

23 Mar 2016 14:14:20
This happens in football and real life, get over it and move on! It’s embarrassing, nobody has died for Christ sake. I’m sure he will wipe his tears with the £140k a week he is making. Boo Hoo.

23 Mar 2016 07:25:00
At last we're being linked with Niklas Sule. Just need to keep fingers crossed that there's some truth in this one. Good player.

Believable3 Unbelievable4

23 Mar 2016 09:48:45
some people on here saying we don't need him as we will have skrtel lovren matip sakho but i'm telling you now skrtel time is done for me and i thought this way before the weekend, the weekend just proved my point. finally looked quite solid at the back soon as he comes back penalty and if it wasnt for the save three goals conceded. bring in sule and you have a 4 decent centre backs and a two centre back for the future of LFC if they hit the ground running in sule and matip.

23 Mar 2016 09:54:52
We Don`t need him will just be a waste of money.

we Have Sakho, Lovren, Matip, Gomez that's more than enough cover there with more of the youth coming in for the odd game here or there spend the money on areas that actually need improving LB, GK.

{Ed023's Note - With Sakho and Lovren having a history of injuries and Gomez not being ready for CB yet I do think he is needed or a CB.}

23 Mar 2016 11:18:59
Someone is needed because Lovren is not good enough.

23 Mar 2016 11:38:52
I dunno ron from southamton form and last few games he is a good defender but him and sakho have no defensive support with clyne and moreno.

23 Mar 2016 11:43:33
This past 6 months have been vital for our Manager, he has recalled players and had a look at them in training. I think he will know by now who he wants for the next journey. I can honestly see us moving on 4 of the centre backs that's here in Caulker and Toure being 2, so Matip and Sule? are needed considering the Injuries that Ed refers too. I do feel that the squad will be cut again with more of the Academy lads being drafted in.

23 Mar 2016 11:45:09
Thats harsh about lovren! he has improved under klopp and been unlucky with some injuries this season. matip and sakho will probably be the centre backs for next season. sule is a brilliant prospect and with kolo looking likely to leave and skrtel being reported to be being sold then matip sakho sule lovren looks good on paper. gomez is still young and on the mend of a serious injury so will need easing back, he played some of his best games for us at left back and we need a left back cover so keep him as a left back and centre back cover.

23 Mar 2016 12:39:19
Sule looks too slow for the Premier league IMO.
Lovren may have improved but it's where he was improving from that is the problem.
He's not good enough to be in a title winning side, therefore we need to be looking to upgrade.

23 Mar 2016 14:08:50
have to laugh really. Sule's name NEVER came up until Ed2 recommended him and that's a fact. people need to stope being sheep and have their own opinion. before you disagree why not try searching on sule and see how often he came up before Ed2 first recommended him.

23 Mar 2016 15:28:17
Don't really understand what your point is 87red, surely the point of this site is to be informed of players we are interested in by the eds then if we've never heard of them to check them out and form an opinion? How can you have an opinion if you've never seen or heard of a player. I'm married with a job and three kids so I don't play Fifa and I don't have the time to google random players so I can give an opinion before someone else just so I can brag about the fact that I commented on them first!

23 Mar 2016 16:21:03
Lovren did well at saints due too Wanyama and Schneiderlin in front of him offering superb protection. A top cb next too him talking aswell and a better gk than what we have.

23 Mar 2016 17:11:06
Dossert

Fair Point. But are you indirectly trying to say Can-Henderson are not good enough? I don't rate Wanyama much but yes Schnider is on another level. Lovren has struggled and the improvements people claim could be measured by Centimeters. Struggles big time against pacy Wide / Strikers.

23 Mar 2016 17:26:17
You think Sule might be too slow Ron? I don't think Matip is quick by any stretch.

23 Mar 2016 17:44:12
Got Sule for my FIFA team. Played 2 seasons, then he wants a transfer 2 days before deadline. Stay away from this one Mr Ayre and Mr Klipperty, he's trouble!

23 Mar 2016 19:41:18
Yes Irish, but Matip is signed on a Bosman. It's pretty pointless debating whether he'll be a good transfer target or not. If Matip is too slow that doesn't make Süle any quicker does it?

23 Mar 2016 06:23:33
Mng Eds and Reds

West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan: "Benteke's a player we admire but the problem is that he is on huge wages that no club can afford. ".

Believable1 Unbelievable6

23 Mar 2016 07:51:14
Translates as 'we'll have him if Liverpool pay half his wages'.

23 Mar 2016 05:37:49
Axel Witsel: Looking to move on in the summer, a good option for LFC? I think he's a cracking player, 27yr old so at his peak and not likely to block a youngster. I think he's perfect for the premier league too.

Believable2 Unbelievable6

23 Mar 2016 06:12:12
Absolutely Ron, You took it from my mouth. I tried the search engine and did morning anything relevant of his situation. I was about to ask Ed02 on the player. He is a cracking player and a better player than Xhaka. He is a matured international. A fantastic CM.

23 Mar 2016 08:12:17
When Harry agrees with you, it may be time for you to rethink your position.

23 Mar 2016 09:27:50
I wouldn't break the bank for him, but £20m would be a decent price.

23 Mar 2016 09:56:01
Buy Witsel and it blocks the development of Grujic no? because he will jump straight ahead of him.

23 Mar 2016 10:55:11
He would cost double than that figure Ron. Zenith paid an awful lot of money to buy himm and they rejeced any approach for the player from AC Milan. A solid player though.

{Ed002's Note - Axel Witsel was looking for a new challenge; Juventus, Milan or Olympiakos thought they may be able to provide last summer. Juventus put an offer on the table that got as far as talks taking place - but it was not enough for a deal to happen. Milan stepped back due to cost - as Olympiakos have already done. Chelsea were approached in October but the requested deal was a little unusual and not suited to the club - they have since been approached again. PSG were also approached and they may look at Witsel again but have other priorities. Spurs and Napoli have maintained a position that they "may" be interested in a deal but want clarification on the proposed transaction. In the interim, Roma and Milan has been approached and offered a deal that was thought that they may find acceptable in January - but they didn't. With the ban hanging over Atletico Madrid it would not be out of the question of seeing an offer from them and Juventus will likely return with a cash offer once they have secured sales.}

23 Mar 2016 11:19:54
Grujic is 19, Witsel is 27. Grujic is not ready to start IMO.

23 Mar 2016 12:11:56
Wouldn't want him in Liverpool. What he did to that Anderlecht player was entirely intentional and unforgivable and puts him right next to Roy Keane for me. No thanks.

23 Mar 2016 12:09:16
I don't think Witsel his needed. We have Can Hendo and Grujic to play the CM role. Unless Hendo is on his way out and then I would prefer to give Stewart a chance.

{Ed002's Note - Needed or not, Liverpool has zero interest in him.}

23 Mar 2016 12:41:08
Fair enough Ed002 and I see he's clearly over-priced.
Thanks for the info guys.

23 Mar 2016 12:57:31
Thanks for the Info Ed02, So funny except liverpool the lad has been offered to a lot of clubs.

23 Mar 2016 03:21:07
Hi eds,

Why do lallana keep his place in the team, when he is not assisting or scoring in most of the matches.
A 25 mil player should deliver lot more. U think we should have given chance for any other youngsters, even texeria could not do bad.

Thank you.

Believable0 Unbelievable7

{Ed001's Note - because he works harder than anyone else. He has shown he has the ability to be a game changer, it is just that he doesn't know how to use it correctly.

Personally I would never have brought in Lallana, having him here is just blocking the route for promising youngsters, imo. I would rather Klopp spent his time moulding a youngster to reach his potential, than kept perservering with Lallana.}

23 Mar 2016 04:44:34
Thank you.

{Ed001's Note - you are welcome.}

23 Mar 2016 04:45:20
Agree we never needed to bring him in (Nor a few others around hat time) but I'd definitely keep him as he adds something to the Attack when with Firmino/ Coutinho and others on his wavelength. Would rather sell Milner who does a similar role but less of a potential game changer.

23 Mar 2016 06:19:02
Sorry zimbo, milner has provided more assists and goals for liverpool and he has played even as a leftback.

Ill keep him instead of lallana.

23 Mar 2016 06:33:04
Lallana is improving though. He just need to cut out all the unnecessary touch and play the ball earlier. He press opponent well which is the key reason he's keep his place.

23 Mar 2016 14:36:42
Its not all about goals and assists. Some players are quiet but what they do allows the team to progress.

23 Mar 2016 00:19:52
Ed01, What do you make of klopp coming out to criticise benteke publicly?

Believable0 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - I think, in this case, it was warranted. He has constantly supported Benteke in public, despite his obvious failings, but sometimes you have to accept that a public kick up the back side is needed. It is up to Benteke now, he can sulk about it and whine and his career will go down the tubes. Or he can make the effort we expect him to make, work harder and his career can go from strength to strength. His choice now.}

23 Mar 2016 05:53:01
On the money ed001. Although i haven't read this "public outing" yet (presumably its something klopp has said in a presser? ), he has to jave remit to answer questions honestly about a player. We had enough buttering up delivered to us by BR.

23 Mar 2016 09:14:31
I disagree with you on this one Ed1. Whatever Klopp had to say to Benteke would have been better served on a one to one in his office. I can't see humiliating a player in public is going to do any good for both the player or the club.

{Ed001's Note - that has been done repeatedly. So no it would not be better served as he has refused to pull his finger out.}

23 Mar 2016 14:04:26
Cheers Ed01.

23 Mar 2016 18:10:34
Im sorry but i don't see the difference between what klopp did and the public dressing down the belgium manager gave him. Yet klopp somehow has to react differently to his lack of interest. People seem to forget benteke gets paid enough in a month to buy a house which i probably will never afford. He has an obligation based on his contract and what he gets paid to perform to a certain level.

I of course would not react well to a public telling off but if i knew i was not putting in a shift i would hold my hands up and get on with it.

If he sulks he goes simple as, seen it before with torres and honestly i have no time for it. They get paid handsomely to do a pretty easy job that they should be enjoying. So not too much to ask to try and learn to adapt to the team you are playing in and show a little effort.

24 Mar 2016 05:53:22
the club manager and his international manager have both had a go at him, when will the penny drop with this guy? if we went to work and did a half arsed job we would get a rollocking and a warning, carry on doing that and we would be sacked.

22 Mar 2016 20:10:15
Dear Eds,

Given the vast amount of knowledge you have about football (and maybe life? ), would you ever consider writing a book about something football related? No idea what specific topic the book would be about, but I would read it!

Believable1 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - I have thought about that a few times, but doing the sites leaves me with little in the way of spare time for writing anything!}

23 Mar 2016 09:34:22
Like "Striker"?

23 Mar 2016 17:54:43
Ahh I see Ed001. Maybe one for the distant future I guess then?

{Ed001's Note - hopefully.}

22 Mar 2016 22:14:59
Hi Everyone, Although I don't often post, I read every day and enjoy the banter/ views from all. Just wanted to say I am thrilled that Liverpool have announced there are Heading over to the West Coast for the ICC Champions Cup this Summer. Any one living out here there is a pre-sale next week (just registar on the website) We are playing Chelski on the 27th July @Rose Bowl and AC Milan on 30th July in Santa Clara (Home of the 49's) We also have a game Scheduled for the 6th August Vs Barca, However I believe it will be on the East Coast as the kick off is 12pm Esatern. (Although no venue as yet) Just wanted to let everyone know. I haven't been to a game for over 3 years since I moved out to California, So I am so excited to see 93,000 at the Rose Bowl. Just a pity we are not playing LA Galaxy during our time.
PS anyone that is out here, that seriously is interested in a ticket let me know!

Believable6 Unbelievable2

23 Mar 2016 02:07:37
Hi Red

Funnily enough I'll be moving to LA in July (I currently live in Miami) . What part of California are you in? If your in and around LA we could touch base? As for the Champions Cup I think Ill get tickets tickets from touts outside the respective stadiums because I've found that's the best way to get great seats for cheap here in the USA.

23 Mar 2016 02:32:03
RedinCA what a genuinely nice post. A nice read away from the debate of Benteke being worth a penny or not or if Jordan Henderson is ever going to step out of the shadow of Stevie G.
Thank you for being one of the good guys and making Liverpool what it is.

23 Mar 2016 10:21:09
Spot on gazza.

23 Mar 2016 20:23:25
Thank you Guys, I think sometimes it is nice to put things in perspective and enjoy being a Red Fan no matter where in the world.
The Rose Bowl is a great Venue and they always put on a great show, I am also hoping to go to the game Vs AC Milan (Nr San Fran)

Brendas Dentist, I am about 30 min North of LA, Would be great to touch base. PM me for my email, I would be happy to.

{Ed002's Note - The Barcelona game will be in Europe - possibly Dublin.}

23 Mar 2016 20:47:27
Yes Thanks Ed, I was hoping it would have been on the West Coast, maybe next year, I am surprised there is no Liverpool Vs Galaxy game however!
