right questions

1 should glen johnson be playing rw rather than rb ?

2 should we be trying to play more balls to carrols feet (i would like to know the ratio of goals scored from headers to the goals scored by foot inc newcastle united)

3 this is not really a question but people judging coates should remember that we play a different style of football if you youtube lucas he used to score goals more often he has had to adapt so i expect coates will have to

The question of Johnson playing a more forward role has been raised many times over the past few years. To us fans it seems quite obvious. There must be something that Kenny knows that we don't. Or, it may be that he has thought about it but when healthy he was needed at LB. {Ed001's Note - the plan was to play Johnson at RW in front of Kelly last season for a match to try it. I forget which match now, but injuries put paid to the plan at the time. I certainly wouldn't be surprised if it was revisited at some point this season.}

Eds, do you live in Liverpool? {Ed009's Note - We live all over. I would love to tell you my address but I don't want all the swooning female readers to come round. I'm fully booked for the next few months.}

Haha. Do you Eds all know each other and have met in person then?

{Ed006's Note - I haven't met any of the other eds in person myself. Not sure about the other eds though.}

All the eds meet regularly they just don't invite you or like 006. now thats just what i heard

my team for wolves {Ed009's Note - Mine too without a doubt.}

Coates over Skrtel. Gerrard not fit enough to start.

You reckon bellamy will start ahead of kuyt ed and whats your score prediction mine is 3-0.DORSET RED {Ed009's Note - I do Dorset Red, especially after the impressive performance on the weekend. If unfit, Gerrard could be replaced by Henderson in all likelihood.}

I agree ed just looking forward to a win at home.going upto the merseyside derby for me 1st ever game watching liverpool.fingers crossed a win there also.DORSET RED

Skyrtle, Adam aren't they suspended? keep up!

No carra not even on the bench and who is the holding midfielder such an underated position gotta be getting didi into the team.

OWEN for godssake! Why doesn't nodody have the Boy Wonder in their team. I am talking about the Owen of Liverpool. Not the one that plays for the Devils.

Jack D.

Jack D. There's room for two strikers - would you really pick Owen over Fowler and Rush because Souness, Barnes, Dalglish and Gerrard have surely got the midfield covered.

Clemence

Jones Hansen Lawrenson Neal

Gerrard Souness Barnes

Dalglish

Fowler Rush

That would be my all time X1
{Ed009's Note - That was the top six I said you cheeky boy! I'd probably take the back four too, though I would genuinely have Reina in goal.}

I seen what you said and agreed with it, then put my defence and keeper in, Rob Jones is definitely the best right back that played for the club. {Ed009's Note - I know mate I was only kidding. I was struggling with a right back but I will take him in mine mate.}

Sorry Ed but did you really say you were struggling for a right back? Has to be Phil Neal with Alan Kennedy at left back.

Chris in Tamworth {Ed009's Note - I am 17 mate and so I was not around anywhere near his time. What's more it is far harder to judge defenders of the past than attackers or midfielders, as they less commonly have single standout games, and it is only the big games of the past that i have seen.}

It was left back I struggled with, there was so many top players. Traore, Kvarme, Kromkamp, Konchesky, Dossena to name but a few

Dicks, Insua, Vignal

How can you forget Emlyn Hughes best left back bar none.
Don't say he wasn't a left back, he started out there and played there for England.

23 Sep 2011 20:48:58
i think reason we are conceding goals is becaus of our midfield putting too much pressure on the defence, they cant keep the ball and are constantly giving the ball away, charlie adam too slow and takes him 1/50 attempts to pass acurate through balls or long passes. jordan henderson hasn't got the quality and never did at sunderland to lead the center of the midfield let alone play at right midfield, panics with the ball, hasnt got the intelligence to create space and see passes, always passing back and sideways, simply not good enough for lfc to progress, this is why we have conceded so many in pre-season and starting to now, carragher and co are being put under too much pressure. we needed a right winger and we still do, i hope kenny either gives toni silva a chance or brings 1 in, in january. we certainly need a quality creative attacking midfielder to eventualy replace gerrard. RedTurk

Shelvey ?

Whilst Toni Silva is a good young prospect, he's a way from playing in the seniors at the moment. Needs to cut out some of his selfishness and mature as a team player first. He's got the potential though. You highlight some problems that we do have, but I believe you overstate many of them. The credit you give to Henderson and Adam, I'm surprised they've made it as professional footballers. Give them a chance, they shown glimpses that they are capable. One or two poor matches doesn't make them terrible players. Another winger would be nice, I agree. In an ideal world we could play Bellamy and Downing, mixing in Maxi at times every week. Unfortunately, as Bellamy has stated, he'll struggle to play every week, his body simply won't let him.

Rush

Hi, I completely disagree with you on the Adam part. I have seen in past games he has been able to seek out a pass, granted though he is no Alonso and may not ever be but I believe he is going to improve.

The fact you make about them losing the ball to much puts pressure on the defence is a fair point and is certainly not helping. But, I don't think this is complete lack of due talent but more that they haven't settled in their roles and are still can't predict each others movemt in the final third. I have suggested before that they are missing that 'leader figure' infront of Lucas, if (by if I mean hope an pray) SG can maintain his fitness, I think that may give us enough time to gel the team.
And Bellamy was a brilliant move for us in that sense...

Myk

Not sure Hendo played too much pre-season due to U21 commitments. Think you are being far too over critical or far too ambitious. It is a new midfield trying to gel and after Bolton game everyone was waxing lyrical about the fluency of Adam et al. The reason we have conceded soo many maybe down to Carra finally finding the pace a little too much. It only takes minimal drop to find yourself off pace and struggling. Even with Lucas offering cover we are still found vunerable.

Dirks Engine Room

The defence marshalled by Carra hit the over the top of our midfield, are you blind.

Allf66, i think Souness instead of Molby and Rush gets into any all time 11 in my book along with K.K up front. Maybe if Luis stays a few years and i really do think he will. As good as he is, he doesn't deserve to be in the team instead of Rush,(yet). I'd have Ronnie Whelan on the bench as well. But its your opinion mate and i fully respect it. Jonson6 {Ed009's Note - I would have Fowler, Rush and Dalglish up front with Souness, Gerrard and Barnes as a midfield 3.}

Ed009, We'd probably be World Champions with that front six - great shout.

Chris , never seen a lot of Terry Mac pal except highlights of him and he looked a great player. Amazing bar Phil Neal, that he was the only England regular around that time. Terry Mac, Jimmy Case, Ray Kennedy Well Englands loss was defo Liverpools gain over that absolute domination of football at home and abroad. And the only its all C.League these days, we were winning the Uefa cup with the runners up 3rd and 4th placed team from each top league. Arguably nearly as hard to win back then because of how many top teams where in it compared to the Euro cup, and it was taken as serious as the Euro cup back then as well, not a play the squad players and blood a youngster or two cup as it is now. Suppose a trophy is a trophy though. The Cup winners Cup was the weak link back then, thats why Everton won it. We could have a few silver stars underneath our gold ones just to show our total dominance in Europe over the years, look pretty nice i reckon ha ha. Jonson6

Im sure youve seen it before but for anyone who hasn't just put "Terry McDermott greatest goals" into you tube and see his goal against spurs. One of the best team goals ever, especially when you consider we were already 6-0 up and it was the last few minutes and McDermott actuall started the attack from his own box. The desire to score is incredible

Chris in Tamworth

That goal your on about Chris is the best goal i've seen scored by any Red's team! and i've been an avid Red for 43 years!

You know, I've just got that feeling things are going to get strange in this league this year - 23/09/2011 - I'm stating it now, Liverpool are going to be in the race for the title by the end!

I do agree with you mate too.

We can all dream, and certainly, it shouldn't be impossible. Just can't see us competing with Man U and C. By title race, you would have to mean within 6 points with only 4 or 5 games left, and that will be really tough.

Last post on the subject Ed001. I still buzz of the effort Craig Johnston put into trying to get a toe on i think it was Rush's shot rolling into an open net. Who was credited with that goal in the end because to this day i think he got his toe to it ha ha. Just like Kuyt with Suarez's against Utd. Ye some great memories, great unsung hero, Jan Molby, could go on all night here so better call it a day Ed001. PS could you imagine how many goals Rush would've got if the offside rule was as it is now being level and not having to come from behind the last man. Stick another ton on top if you ask me. Thanks. Jonson6 {Ed001's Note - Rush would have blown all records away if he played in the modern game, no defender could deal with him.}

Ed is there anyone out there in the mould or class as rush.DORSET RED {Ed009's Note - Not any more. No way. If Torres wasn't injury prone, and managed to play 50 games a season, not about 25, I think he could have been up there with us.}

If Torres is worth £50m What do you think Rush would be worth in his prime if he was playing today?

JRG {Ed009's Note - He would be top scorer every season, in any league. He'd probably be an 80 million play like that person Christiano.}

I've just read the Rumour page and had to choke on my beans on toast with the suggestions of both Torres and Owen returning. Some people make me laugh. The Editors must cringe sometimes.

Just watching LFCTV Friday night live and they just shown an interview of fernando Torres in which fans are singing a song about him,anyways I know we got a brilliant deal for him but I would of loved to see him with Suarez,now that would of been one he'll of a partnership. Cheers pk

Ye true Ed001, Spackman not in same league as Souness but still won a league title i think. More a tramps, Ronnie Whelan then a Souness but get your point pal. Didn't think Gary Gillespie was the greatest either but just got on with it, tried his best when he did play and won a few things. I'm not long turned 34 and Ronnie Whelan was my fav player when i was about 5 or 6. I really dont think he gets credit for how good a player he was. Talk about pass and move, keep it simple, let the ball do the work. Scored some great goals league cup final v Utd for instance. And his goal for Eire v Russia is up their with Van Bastens Volley and Bergkamp's goal for Arsenal against Newcastle are my 3 fav/best none Liverpool scored goals of all time. What do you think of Ronnie Whelan Ed001, and do you think he's gotten the credit he deserves. Bruce to Hansen, Hansen to Whelan, Whelan to K.K who would know were Ian Rush was going and straight into his path and goal. Oh Craig Johnston maybe. Jonson6 {Ed001's Note - I loved Ronnie Whelan, I remember him firstly for winning the League Cup against Spurs with his goals. He may have been a United fan as a boy, but I still loved him as a Liverpool player. Craig Johnston is a great shout, he was like Kuyt is now, just like a Duracell bunny, non stop, loved him as well.}

I'm a bit older and if you don't mind me joining in my favourite player was Terry McDermott. He scored my favourite goal too

Chris in Tamworth {Ed001's Note - I love McDermott, he used to score vital goals and my first memory of football was a sweep we had to pick the first goal scorer. I could only have been about 6 or 7 and I picked McDermott and won. Loved him ever since!}

Unsung hero for me would be Stefan Henchoz - I always thought he never got the credit he deserved. I remember when we drew 0-0 at the Nou Camp (must have been the Europa league when we won the treble?) and he was superb. I swear he won some headers in that game he had no right to win. Also his goalkeeping performance in the FA cup final against Arsenal wasn't bad either!

Ed001, i'd add Steve Finnan to the list of unsung hero's, the only players ever to play none league, all 4 pro leagues and win a C.League. Also Gary Gillespie always thought did a good job when he was asked to play. Sure he played full back sometimes as well. Jerzy Dudek dont get his due credit i dont think either even though you mentioned keepers, and because he was forgot about so quickly because we bought Reina after Dudek's C.League performance, and we all know how good Reina is. His save from Shevchenko in E.time to this day is the greatest save i've ever seen. Even Nigel Spackman i think could go on the list to be fair. Jonson6 {Ed001's Note - you are possibly right about Dudek, he did get less credit than he was due thinking about it. I do think Finnan is a good shout as well, though I am not convinced about Gillespie, I was never impressed by him. Nor Spackman for that matter, neither were bad players, just not of the quality of Souness and the likes.}

How's bout this for an Unsung hero XI

Dudek.
Finnan. Hysen. M Wright. Bjonerbye

Murphy. Litmanen Lucas. Houghton

Crouch Fairclough

I know a lot of people will disagree with my choice of Glenn Hysen, but he did a job

Hi mine is Bob paisley (the player) we dropped him at wembley in the cup final and he was missed.(godin)first player with the big throw in.

Lucas Leiva is on of the most respected player in the liverpool team by the fans (most) due to how we all abused him but after a few seasons he came out the other end of the tunnel a geat player and yet we are judging Hendo, Adam and Carroll in only a few games..... have we not learnt the lesson that good things happen to those who wait -McMenemy

But when lucas was judged we had masch gerrard and alonso who started and lucas was on the bench. now the players that you expect us to wait on are starters or should be because of their price tag.

Jordan is still a young lad,and what as he actually done wrong?He rarely gives the ball away as bags of energy crosses well.I think he has done ok,It's because of the price tag, that some fans want the finished article. I want to see the lad in a few yrs, and that's when I will judge whether or not he was worth the money we paid for him.Carra as cost the team 5 goals in 4 games, and Hendo and Carroll are getting more stick.

Forget about Jordan price tag, but he goes missing a lot during the game and if you watch very carefuly you will see he looses the ball quite often, but its not noticable because he hardly gets a touch.
Look he is not a bad player, but as the poster above highlighted, Hendo is a first teamer, he needs to raise his game a little, or Kenny should drop him and use him as a sub or in CC games like Brighton when he should've played.
Roy

Hendo has done nothing really but he has not done anything right either. he lacks confidence on the ball, he passes backward or sideways mostly. he comes with no special attribute and most of the time you will not see him on the ball. he cant tackle and look lost. age is not an excuse my friend. most of his age mate are doing it big in the league and champions league. he should not be a starter in the team.....

" he lacks confidence on the ball, he passes backward or sideways mostly"
You could say that of Kuyt (and a couple of others for that matter) on most games, if we are to play foreword passing football then our players must move about more and try to shake their markers.
The job isn't finished once the ball has left their feet...

Myk

I still cant have lucas,watch him closely,he just wanders about in front of back four,not marking,passing is poor and giving free kicks away,nothing against the lad,always tries his best but i personally think we would improve with him out of the team,just my opinion,admittedly he looked good when we were struggling,but how many of the players were really giving 100 percent under roy,cheers rob bushby

All the greats in any sport show it while they are in their teens,check it out.(godin)

Eds please post in rumours

Quick question
Would people prefer a new stadium or a refurb of Anfield.

UNBELIEVABLE = ANFIELD

And thoughts on a ground share which would give extra money for players

Personally I go for new Stadium and build for the future. {Ed001's Note - no point posting this in rumours.}

No way would I want a groundshare, that would be nuts.

Hi Eds & Reds

I'll try again posting this again, for some reason it wasn't posted earlier today!!

Heres my potential starting XI tomorrow:

Reina

Kelly. Carra. Coates. Enrique

Maxi. Lucas. Adam. Downing

Bellamy. Carroll

Bellamy for Suarez, I think him and Carroll would compliment each other and after he runs Wolves ragged for 65 minutes we cud torture them more with Suarez!!

Maxi for Henderson, it's a squad game and there was some good link up play between him an Bellers the other night

Stevie G for Adam after 70 mins. As KK said he'll not be rushed

When Aurelio due back from injury?

If Eds and Reds were to pick an LFC XI of players who dont/didn't receive the credit they deserved, what would it be, an unsung Heros XI

Please post to banter

Rebel_Red {Ed001's Note - hard to pick an XI of those, our keepers have all been well loved, those that deserved to be anyway. The only players I can think of, off the top of my head, are Stevie Nicol and Didi Hamann.}

23 Sep 2011 15:32:20
for all the people saying kk has spend 100 million and we better get in the top 4, since kk arived in jan we have spent 110 million and when all money from players sold comes in , he will have built this squad for around 30m as money recouped is around 80m , also we are only 5 or 6 games into the season , we have been good and bad on the pitch , some players need to improve , while some look great , give the team time to gel more and big andy needs to improve but if kk cant get this out of him then who can , our success wont be instant but under kenny we will get there.........lfc

23 Sep 2011 15:30:26
How some fans on here call themselves LFC fans on here is beyond me i cant believe how many negative posts there are. First of all when you look at the team Enrique, Downing, Adam and Henderson who have only played 5 games, also Carroll who has not played much more and not long come back from injury, Coates who played 1 game if you include Bellamy in this then thats 7 new players with also Skrtel being played out of position due to injuries. With 6 or 7 new players in the same team even to the established its like a whole new team. Look at Lucas the other 3 midfielders are all new he couold have Coates behind him with Carroll in front. He hasnt played more than a few games with any of these players so its not just the new players that need time to gel. All the top premier league managers, Fabio Capello and a number of top managers abroad all rate Carroll but some fans on here dont. I remember when we played Chelsea in the champions league semis and the club put scarfs on the chairs to try and get the fans behind the team, but you still dont even here them having a go at Torres who has scored just 2 goals in about 30 games. Carroll has played about half that and scored more. How are we ever supposed to get and keep hold of top players if the fans jump on there backs cos they dont settle in there first game. If we got Aguero or David Villa would you of give them a chance if they didnt show what they can do in there first few games, if so why cant you give these players a chance. The worst for me is the comments on Coats who has just moved from South America and played only 1 game. We still have a key player in Gerrard who has only just come back and will add creativity to the team. The owners and KK had always said this season is about building a new team and building for the future. They also said because of this that they dont expect to win the league this year so why do so many of you so called fans expect to.

Gaz

You telling me are proper supporters arn't happy with this squad . Rein , Kelly , carra skertel , Enrique , Lucas , Adam , gerrard , downing , suarez , Bellamy . (could be team sat ) then back up , doni , Coates , agger , kuyt , Carroll , Johnson , etc etc . If your a Liverpool fan and not happy with that after 8 months then you must be mad. K96

23 Sep 2011 14:23:01
It's not often I post something on here, I usually stand back and watch some of the bolleaux that manc and bitters post. I thought I'd jump in with a couple of observations. There is an awful lot of negative crap regarding Carroll and Henderson going around mainly due to the respective fees paid for each. At this moment in time they are still very young and decidedly unproven. I believe that they will become genuine assets to LFC.
In respect of what KK can/will achieve, it took SAPN seven years to develop a trophy winning team and has spent substantial amounts on ahost of players that never made the grade or took they're time to settle in, i.e. 30 million for Veron, Berbatov, 20 million Hargreaves, Carrick, Anderson etc. Unfortunately with the media focus slightly blurred if LFC ever leave a player on the bench the decision is viewed as a massive indictment of LFC's recruitment policy. If there is one piece of advice I could pass on to all Reds it to 'Keep Calm and Carry On'.
Keep Calm, because you know the media will pick up on every minor detail to try and unsettle the club and Carry On doing what we are renowned for. Recently we have been through some very dark times and it's been difficult to keep the faith.
Since Kenny's last stint as manager, Roy Evans, Ged Houllier and Rafa all came close to giving us decent teams and occasions that most other clubs would be extremely proud of. But of course we are not 'Most other teams' and this is where we are exceptionally lucky in that not only do we realise this but also Kenny does.

Redgie

Well said redgie, it appears many people have very short memories.

I think you make some excellent points. I was disappointed when Henderson left Sunderland. He got 5 assissts for us in the league last season same number as Gerrard for you and 2 goals- all whilst being played out of position. Also he was in the top 10 players for goal scoring opportunities created. So had we not played most of the end of the season without strikers his assisst record would be much better. He is going to need time to settle but with Suarez playing ahead of him I think he will definately prove to be a solid buy. People need to ignore the mass hysteria created by a couple of defeats. You only have to look at where Liverpool finished last season after starting so badly people were talking about relegation! You clearly look in better shape than last season and can we honestly say any of the teams that finished below you have improved enough to be higher than you - no. Have you improved enough to be better than any of the teams above-probably. Your 1 point better off than you were after these fixtures last season and lets face it barring some dubious refereeing decisions you would be 3 possibly 5 up. I don't even support Liverpool and can see all these positives. Keep faith with your youngsters- you only have to look at Dzeko to see the difference time to settle can make!

A short memory is indeed the last thing you need as a Liverpool supporter. In fact you need a very very long memory, you know, to remember the good old days!

Sir Alex x

You need to beable to count to 5 aswell. You never know sir Alex in another 10 years you might beable to count to 5

The negative fans can talk about how the players are all rubbish after a couple of poor games, and how we're all sheep for trusting KK's judgement, but it's coming to something when a Sunderland supporter is being more positive and less critical about Henderson and the other recent players than LFC fans are!

Surely if rival fans think we're in much better shape than last year, and that our recent additions are good quality players- surely we can do the same, about our own team?

Torres has 2 goals in I dont know how many games but the Chelsea fans haven't deserted him, likewise City fans with Dzeko last season.

And we're supposed to be the loyal and supportive fans!

If someone has a bad game like Skrtel did against Spurs, then fair enough, say so- even he would admit he had a bad day.

But that doesn't mean he's a bad player, any more than Henderson is a bad player after his very average display (after some good ones, btw)- and they could probably do with a bit of support to pick themselves up after the Spurs game.

AC

Sir Alex x, we played your s**te off the park on our last meeting, it was only in March 2011 so why do I need to have a long memory? I don't really expect you to understand, certainly you've never seen manU play, certainly you've never been to that s**thole manchester in your life. Yes, they look good on the tele don't they? If you'd been born 10 years earlier you'd have supported Liverpool, only because they were winning everything and you'd be writing the same things you write now on the manc pages. Why don't you get a life?

I was always against this idea, but I have to admit Maxi deserves a place in the starting line-up ahead of Henderson with the current form. Maxi suits to our game better than him. I have nothing against Henderson and I also think he is one of the best young players in England. Henderson will improve of course but at this moment Maxi is my pick to start.

Jack D.

Maxi plays well when were winning but when it gets hard he turns invisible like against Brighton. - McMenemy

Maxi should start.

Here we go again. Coates slow and cumbersome. He started a bit nervy but after that i thought he was fine. Was stuffing passes into feet not going back to the keeper. And he's anything but slow. Just because he may have a different stride pattern to shorter players. I bet you dont see him get beat to often in a ball over the top foot race. And before you go on about his booking, he nearly caught the guy never mind losing any ground. An inch or 2 from winning the ball. Its not as if teams aren't making chances against Utd. Jones very good player but his mistakes have been overlooked by Utd's over all results. 1 game, a 20 year old Uraguyan leaving home, coming to England, could've gone to City, chose us for less money no doubt. GIVE THESE YOUNG PLAYERS A BREAK, support our team. In general our football has been very good at times, s**te against Spurs. Coates would've started his full debut with a clean sheet if young well fairly inexprenced player in Spearing hadn't worked his socks off to get back, should've cleared it, didn't, Carra had no choice but to fly and just hoped he something on that ball. Jay, will learn, Carra right place,wrong time eh. We need to support the team, each and everyone of the players. They might not all have the mental strength of Lucas and think f*** this, thought these fans supported the club through thick and thin. Big game at Wolves, defo would leave Coates in. Skertel really let his team mates down. He's out of the team for now. Good sub, but leave back four,bar Enrique back in same as Brighton. Jonson6

I agree with you mate- I thought he looked pretty good, and looks like he's got the potential to handle the prem.
I'd start him instead of Skrtel for the time being, and see if he can continue to improve and adapt.

I think he's got less of a risk of giving away free kicks around the box than Skrtel, and he looks like he can pass better out of defence.

But Wolves at home is one that KK will really want to win, and I have a feeling he'll play really safe and go with experience- my bet is on Skrtel to be picked rather than the new boy for this game.

Think i owe people an appology. I was expectint the announcement on the new ground to be made next week however it seems this deadline has been delayed while the club choose which offer to except.

The new ground will deffinatly still go ahead just had my timing wrong.

Please see the attached extract from the Liverpool daily post business pages

"This event followed Mobile Monday, the previous evening, sponsored by Nokia, where five mobile games entrepreneurs presented, and again all companies there – including Nokia – were hiring.

The point I am trying to make is that the USA is having a very patchy recession and Boston doesn't seem to be involved.

The mission also met with several businesses who expressed genuine interest in developing out into the UK, and who were knowledgeable enough to know that the overheated streets of London are probably not the best location for digital-oriented businesses."

This also coming on the day John Henry moved back into the forbes rich list.

I expect the likes of Carroll, Hendo, Adam and Downing to be recalled for the match against Wolves. It's almost the preferred team set out by the gaffer - possibly Bellamy in place of Suarez as he looked knackered

SingRed

And with the likes of those players EXCEPT BELLAMY AN DOWNING... we will definitely struggle against wolves when they sit back and hit us on the break with their wingers..
wolves of all teams are gona make it so tough for us this saturday...pfff

Drop suarez and we will a very unhappy young man, even if people THINK he needs a rest.

Please KK do NOT have Carroll, Henderson and Adam starting against Wolves. Lots of love.

So what did we buy Carroll for 35m for? Just to hold the ball up? For 35m I would expect a really decent goal scorer. Agree?

With players costs probably giong to double again in the next 4 yrs so £35m won't be look at as so extreme and its speculated that Carroll's ability will double into a 20 epl goals a year striker and England International. That is the plan I believe. He is defeinately in the investment category but because of his poor form and recent PR he has moved into being viewed as a massive gamble. Once his form is back to Newcastle standard and rising he will again be seen as an investment and everyone will move on to slagging another big money player in poor form. Remmber when Crouch first joined and coudn't score or 15 odd games but then game good. Carroll has ability to become better than crouch so lets judge him on Boxing day. But I admit we shouldn't start him in games he should come on once we are 2 up at least but he should get to start cup matches.

The cost of players will not double in the next four years. If anything they will lower or at the very least stay the same because of the FFP regulations.

Sydney!

I think games like tomorrow are the types of games andy needs to be playing to get his confidence and form back

With reference to recent post - Henderson as a potential captain! I am annoyed if he is in the team never mind captain! He is not up to standard at all.

He was under 21 captain I think, but he does have big potential.
Of all the young midfielders around, KK chose him as a long term prospect for LFC- and I believe KK knows good potential when he sees it.
His form is a bit up and down, but he's shown some great flashes and seems to have a football brain, which the likes of Walcott and others haven't.
I trust KK, I think he'll suit a passing game, and I think the lad will come good.

One thing that has struck me about the squad is the number of potential captains we now have.

Adam, Gerrard, Carra, Suarez, Bellamy, Henderson and even Coates have all captained regularly at different levels.
Just think- that's seven of the players who could well be starting in future games.
I'm hoping that if the team is flagging a bit or a game is going a bit flat, there are enough leaders in there to turn the game around.

Crap referees permitting, of course.

AC

Who's Henderson captained regularly? He was about 3rd in line for U21 captaincy before Jones and Smalling left. Hardly great captaincy material

I thought he captained england u21's against Azerbaijan?

He's not likely to be an LFC captain I admit, but he must have some leadership qualities, or why would they pick him?

What he's saying is that there are lots of leaders on the pitch, stop slagging of Henderson, he's a young lad with lots of potential, with fans like you down his back he'll never have the confidence.

Same applies for Andy Carroll.

maka

Hello again potential.

Post in banter pls

Liking at our squad and the way we've generally played since KK took over, I believe we're 2 players short covering every base.
1. A clinical goal scorer/finishe/poacher - AC was never bought as nor will he become that man. He's more of a heskey type hold call up n lay it off. Luis is a tricksy with his movement but as seem in 2-3 games this season he's not a clinical finisher. He'll put more away than he misses but his skill is in creating them, and with the pass n mive we play (ex for spurs game) we need someone who's gonna bang in
2 out of 3, like Owen / fowler. At stoke that's what was needed. At Brighton even though we won, against Sunderland 1st half.
Bellamy's been brought back, why not try for anelka in Jan? Pure clinical finishing, short term measure to get job done till next summer. Other than that I'd say Rossi, cavani, higuain, benzema.
2. A pacey right winger. Kuyt is immense, always 110% for team. But we need someone to stretch teams at times. Downing has played there but he's not a natural right foot although done well. Someone like affelay / payet / navas/ perotti. Get the ball an run to the by line. Guess what. This would help AC. Out too!

With these 2 additional types of players plus a bit of luck injury wise we shud really challenge at the top end. Forget the spuds game, it was a blip, at home spuds are getting taken apart by KK. and as Brighton game showed (granted championship team but better than many prem teams) we CAN play

Sinner786

I know what you're getting at, but can't see it happening. As for your point regarding Downing, he doesn't have too back of a right foot and maybe with Bellamy on the left, things wouldn't be too bad if we had AC on the pitch!

R u telling me that we are not interested in this kid? i thought buying him in jan wud seal a top 4 place for us. he is better than all the attackin players we have except suarez n gerrard.
Indian Buzzer {Ed002's Note - Liverpool may be interested in the player but they have made no approach to Bologna. I am aware of serious interest in the player from elsewhere - Villareal and Fiorentina.}

Isn't he Uraguan if so, if we do go in for him he would like the look of Suarez and Coates -Mc

Good morning one and all!
Just wanted to make a few comments regarding the Brighton game.
I personally was encouraged with the start the Coates has made. Yes he made a rather stupid mistake with a cross across his own box when Brighton hit the bar.
However, he looks rather solid for a lad so young. There were a few times I thought Liverpool were in trouble and he was always there to step in and stop the danger from progressing. I have to say, I think the lad's got some great potential.
One thing i'm a little disappointed with though, is the fact Jamie Carragher started over Danny Wilson. I genuinely think Wilson's a good player that just doesn't get enough game time, and with the suspension and injury to Skrtel and Agger respectively, I feel it would of been a good oppurtunity to play the lad.
However, I'm not Dalglish, and he will have his reasons!
And I'd just like to add, that it's bloody good to see Stevie G back, even if the after match commentary! He's a fantastic player, a fantastic captain, and a fantastic guy in the footballing world. (I'm not gay haha!)

Thanks all,
YNWA
Hooch.

Carra is past it should become a coach, Wilson is probably a better defender.Every game this season Carra has made a mistake even at Brighton he didn't have to give a Pen away. He has cost us too many goals this season.

Did you actually watch the game? Or was it past your bed time?
ND

I did i think Brighton should have won Noone hit the bar and Kelly made a goal saving tackle.

I see the "player manager brigade" have started on Coates already, after one game, you guys are pathetic. The bloke young, just moved to a foreign country, made his debut only last week and already he is slow and we should of got Jones. Something tells me its jealous spam, or bitter bluenose's typing that because our fans can't be that bad, can they?

If kenny can do what he wants to do with Carroll he's going to be something special. The teams been together 5 minutes, some people just haven't got a clue have they? Success doesn't happen over night. Mistakes will get made and the team will learn. Yes Carroll's a gamble but have faith, because I trust kenny more than I trust you lot.

As for "Ed can we ban all banter from other teams" its a banter site. I think if the ED'S think its offensive they won't post it. Calling for of to be banned from rival fans shows how soft you must be. If you don't like the post, don't read them. The majority of us can handle it, after all it is a banter site so expect banter.

To all the regular real posters on here. Keep up the good posts. A lot of you truly love our fantastic club and talk a lot of sense.

To all the negative fans who spit the dummy out, try thinking positive because even the best teams/players/managers make mistakes.

To the soft fans who want the banter banned from a banter site, grow some balls and if it offends you that much, move to the next post.

Eds keep up the good work. Love the sarcasm you can come out with, cheers me up coming on here. You lot make this site what it is along with the fans.

The problem with the negative fans is universal , most of these fans are a fast food generation so their brain cells are poisoned by such culture that is why they get upset too fast and their heart changes loyalties too fast, they play too many Games (computer) and look at the others and envy what they have, they have no self respect , therefore they don't respect anyone , how could any one admire other teams players and proudly say they are better than the ones we have, we play good sometimes and we will play bad some other times until we mould together in few months, no one has the right to judge a player, please start to eat some wholesome food, some home cooking, eat with your friends and family , learn how to eat slowly, you will think better and you will see much better, after all we are a family. the Liverpool Football Club Family , we breath together, we smile together, we sing together, we live and die as one, lets have some respect to our family please.

THIS IS ANFIELD!

So nearly 8 months have passed since the King was restored and long have we pondered his cryptic words of victory. Well time has proven him wise, so from Kopite to Kopite the word has spread that bold King Kenny and his squad will do their all and deliver the promise this club holds!
So here on these rugged winter pitches Utd and their hoardes face obliteration remembering the horrors they faced at Anfield! Sheer terror grips the Black Knight. Their hearts with icy fingers knowing what they endured when the King last led his people to glory. Now they stare at an 8 point lead PALTRY ODDS FOR ANY KOPITE! This year we banish the dark era of corporate brandism,were the old knight used gold to buy his glories off the shelf and usher in an age of greater glory than we can ever imagine! A TRUE BASTIAN OF INVINCIBILITY.

TO KING KENNY
TO ALL THE RED MEN
TO VICTORY

THIS IS ANFIELD

It is a sobering thought that we are already 8 points behind Utd, and my thoughts about maybe winning the title now seem a bit optimistic.

But that said, as long as it is still mathematically possible, I know KK and the boys will still have it in their minds- but the truth is they will carry on trying to win every game regardless, so we can only wait and see, stay behind them, and stay positive.

Lets get one thing straight all the bad results are the responsibility of the manager. He has set fire to 35 million buying one of the worst strikers ive ever seen in a red shirt, he has made crucial decisions which have cost us games.To many people on this site love KK and kiss his a*se. He aint bigger the Liverpool and he will be judged on the money his spent or wasted and where we finish.If any manager spent 100 million and didn't finish in the top 4 then he will be sacked i don't care who you are or what you done in the 80's.

Another Manc invading this site?

You think Carroll is one of the worst, he's hardly played enough in a new team, give him a chance. Try Baros, Cisse, Camara, Dundee, Meijer, Morientes, Ngog, Pongolle, Voronin, Jovanovic, Babel, Keane...all pretty much cack at LFC but we supported them anyway

It seems no body can give there opinions on the the club without being branded a manc at the moment.At the end of the day a manager will always be judged by results and the players that are signed.Before kenny came back alot of people were questioning if he had been out of the game for to long and i think he was very brave to spend the amount of money he did on the players we have signed as if we dont reach champions league this year then the season will be judged a failure and his position as manager will be seriously in question
TED

100 % agree with TED Results are everything

Carroll is worse then them baros is twice the player

I think people's respect and loyalty for KK is not just about the 80s- it's just as much based on the massive turnaround he achieved when he took over in Jan, and the way the team has played since.

They've gone from playing like a bunch of uninterested cowards to being professional, cohesive, and determined, and having pride in their shirt.

That alone is worth keeping KK on to be honest, and giving him a really good chance to show what he can do.

The 100 million thing is a red herring. The squad lacked strength in depth to such an extent that he had to overspend a bit, just to catch up and provide some backup for injuries etc.

Now we have the likes of Henderson and Carroll itching to come on, instead of the likes of Poulsen and Ngog.

But they are so much better to watch under KK than before- I missed a couple of games under Hodgson, but didn't bother watching them afterwards anyway because I knew it would be too depressing.

If I miss a game now, I always watch it later anyway, even if we lost.
As you say, KK will stand or fall by his decisions, but I have a feeling that by next June, we will all be standing.
And applauding.

AC

Baros, Cisse, Camara, Dundee, Meijer, Morientes, Ngog, Pongolle, Voronin, Jovanovic, Babel, Keane THEY WERE NOT 35 MILLION MATE ! Keane was the only one that cost 20 million plus, And he is better then CARROLL.

So your telling me 35 million on an unproven lump who lacks pace and ability is overspending a bit. 20 million for a player slightly better then poulson in hendo. Look at the players we got and look at chelsea with mata and lakaku, look a utd with young and jones. You need to realize that if you want to spend you will be judged by what you bought. Spurs played triangles around us so did Brighton in the second half they should have won Noone was the best player on the pitch. KK has had his honeymoon period.

Am i the only one that liked Cisse lol.

always a red

Cost is irrelevant, it's their performance that matters, give them more chance than a handful of games to prove themselves, judge them by that measure rather than the fee. Carroll had nothing to do with his fee so why is he vilified for it? My point was we've had worse strikers but they still got the full support of the fans. We're not managing the clubs budget, I couldn't give a hoot how much is paid for a player just on their performances, this will take time with the amount of new players we have. Some players were betetr, Keane was better than he was for us, but it never worked, and would have loved the Morientes of his pomp but wasn't to be.

KK should be the one to blame his the reason we have him! Secondly lets look at Carroll's performance he would not even get in to a championship club he is s**t. He is slow cant pass,cant head ( and he is 6ft 5) he cant tackle he cant hold up the ball, he cant score he cant assist I could go on an on he is CRAP how long to you want to give him years.

Some of you 'fans' are a disgrace. Your posts read like manc posts. You are embarrassing to the club. Your opinions are as worthless as your loyalty to LFC

You lot above slagging el monstero are completely ignorant wellends. It's really not worth my time to explain just how narrow minded and short termist your ill informed muppetisms are. So I'm not going to.
Duckula

OK, I'll ask the club to run every purchase through you so you can approve them first.

Don't have to give him years but maybe give him more than the approx 16 hours of playing time he's had so far

He would have had more but he is so rubbish his warming the bench mate

Young naive posters, I got the game every week and midweek when there is a game home & away. The thousands of fans who go the game will laugh at most of the posters on here and wouldn't class them as fans. Slagging Kenny off is a disgrace, you lot are clueless, no other man would of changed our fortunes last season. We are in a far better situation than this time last season but yet you want success over night, pathetic. I have not posted in a long time with the negativity on the site. I have been a regular for many years and never seen such embarrassing post's towards a icon of the club. But saying that even Beethoven had his critics (Chopper 2000). But football fans are the most fickle people in the world, come Christmas and we are in the top 4 playing great football the same people will be praising Kenny and Co.

Ed sorry to go on, I understand people have a right to an opinion but sometime people (so called fans) go a little to far but still sign of with YNWA....

How is it Everton grab hold of the likes of Drenthe an make him sucessful an yet our scouts seem to miss these players. Other than Bellamy Mcallister Hyypia an a couple more we seem to pay a lot of doe for averagey players.

How is it Everton are not the dominate team then? ...

So Drenthe is a success after a couple of games, yet when our players have played only a few together then they are flops.

Why are you applying double standards to your argument?

To be fair the amount of cash Everton have spent in the last few seasons is tiny compared to most top flight clubs

evening all,just wondering if anyone has an opinion on why on gods green earth kenny played skertel at right back against spurs?as far as i'm aware he's never played there before and to throw him in against bale just seemed like suicide to me. surely flanagan would have been a better shout? even kuyt could have filled in.it's just put a small seed of doubt in my head about kennys ability to set the team.cost us the game in the end as the defence were all over the place due to skertels lack of pace and getting caught out of position.can anyone put my mind at ease about this sitiutation? eds?

dublin phil {Ed001's Note - he played there the previous game and did well, I would say it was part of the plan to reward good performances with a place.}

Mate its not about right back or left back or even centre backs not playing well its about the defence as a unit not performing but they were put under pressure by the midfield unit not performing and offering some protection to the back four as a whole, we just have to take this one on the chin boys and say you know what as a team we under performed , it wont be the last time we have a nightmare game but i can garuantee that while kennys in charge lessons will have been learned from this game and i truly believe that kenny will turn the negatives into positives , so lets just move on and think about wolves at home on saturday and give the boys and kk are support for the coming season. YNWA
tommy c

I agree with your post but the defence played far too deep, not allowing are midfield a foothold on the game, when a defence plays deep its for safety reasons and lack of pace which apart from enrique our defence is a little slow, not a critisim just an observation, good luck saturday boys
snowy

The earth is not green its blue!

Fair eniough that KK gave Skrtel a start at RB since he did okay the time before.
But I do think he should have risked using up a sub and putting on Flanno for the second half- he was struggling badly and I thought was always at risk of another yellow.

KK gambled that Skrtels experience would come through and he could cope, so it's all down to individual people's take about the risks of leaving him on, versus using up a sub when you are already down to 10 men, and might need subs for other areas where legs are tired/injuries etc.

I dont think that was the issue. In a game like that we NEEDED kuyt to play RM, Offering defensive cover too MS, Fundamental mistake in my opinion. But then again my opinion doesnt count for much compared to a premier league winning manager.

Jimbo
