Liverpool misift Javier Mascherano will cost you £18m cash, Barcelona

Liverpool have told Barcelona they want £18million in cash for midfielder Javier Mascherano by the end of the weekend, so manager Roy Hodgson can reinvest the money during the transfer window.
The Merseyside club have reluctantly accepted that Mascherano wants to leave, and the Argentina captain will not be with the squad who fly to Turkey for Europa League duty this morning.
But Liverpool have told Barca they want to recoup the money they paid West Ham for Mascherano three years ago and that a deal must be done soon or they will withdraw from negotiations.
With Hodgson aware of suggestions in Italy that a £13m bid from Inter Milan for forward Dirk Kuyt is imminent, the Liverpool boss knows there is much to resolve before the summer transfer window closes on August 31.
If Mascherano does go, Hodgson would try to buy PSV striker Ola Toivonen and a left back. As such, Liverpool have told Barcelona they will entertain only a straight cash deal for Mascherano.
Having already turned down £16m that included former Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb as a makeweight, Liverpool's talks with Barcelona failed to make significant progress yesterday.
With the 26-year-old refusing to play in the 3-0 Barclays Premier League defeat at Manchester City on Monday, it seems inconceivable that he will play for Liverpool again, though he did turn up for training yesterday.

Sir Bob
"Hodgson doesn't appear to have stamped any of his own blueprint on the team. i know he's only been there a short while, but i did expect a different tempo at least from the sluggish, slow, predictable fayre on show last night. It's all i asked for. "

I did notice a Hodgson trait in the last 3 games (PL and Europa). . If you notice the tempo and aggression is higher / faster in the second half, ie the first half is maintain and contain, and the second go for it . . Fulham played this way last year and its something Brian Clough used to do . the idea in the second half the opponent energy levels are lower so you can force them into mistakes etc etc
I am not sure if this is a good or bad method and I am not sure if we have the players to do it.

Am a big fan of this site but worry about some of the comments i read on here. I wonder why people insist on linking us with the likes of swp and bridge when citeh are clearly not going to sell players to us. .plus I can't understand why we'd want either! Swp is completely over-rated and has no awareness of those around him - not what we need. Was pleased to read some comments earlier though that identified our need for pace in the side. It's been so obvious for the past year or so, but more evident since Torres has been unfit and lacking his speed of the mark. Need a left back who can attack, another dynamic central midfielder (Diarra?) and a winger or two who is willing to have a go at defenders like Adam Johnson did to us (Turan/ Young/ Albrighton - no chance of either I'm guessing). A utility forward like Ruiz would be essential as well if we are going to seriously compete. I would let Babel, Kuyt (although I've got huge respect for him), and Lucas all leave if we could somehow fund these.

All this takeover talk is driving me mad, why can't someone from the LFC board just reassure the fans that something is happening, it is seriously driving me crazy. anyone agree?

After reflecting from last night's game and reading all the predictable knee jerk reactions. Just some observations. I was disappointed in Agger's performance. . .again. As a fellow (former) defender he was poor last night. Looked out of sorts and it isn't that hard to adapt to LB from CB. One point, it would have made better sense to have switched Johnston to LB, so if his namesake cut inside (which he did all game) he would have moved inside to Glen's stronger foot and I would have played Kelly at RB. Skrtel made a brain dead decision to dive in and that isn't acceptable, he has to be better than that. Gerrard did everything right, but in that deeper role he isn't that effective, yet further forward he ends up being isolated because of the quality (lack of) of play behind him. Something that Torres suffered last night. The other issue, the bloody tempo was crap and that is alarm ringing time. There appeared to be too much of a similarity to Benitez' play. Hodgson doesn't appear to have stamped any of his own blueprint on the team. i know he's only been there a short while, but i did expect a different tempo at least from the sluggish, slow, predictable fayre on show last night. It's all i asked for.

Finally the players didn't seem to have the zip and energy that a poor, unacceptable season from last year would have demanded. They promised the fans at least this as some sort of payback. Unfortunately they served up another dish of similar quality from last year. Fed up of those performances.

And the best Left Back in World football at the moment is Bastos of Lyon

Oh one more thing, Kuyt should not be playing RM. We need more natural width. Other than that everything is going well!

Just read the whole page, about 80% of the things posted are just copied from other sites, i.e. Sky Sports, etc. I thought this site was for info from Sources unknown to us, The Editor gives us info from his sources when he can, so people who give us 2nd hand info we can see on other sites, naff off and keep it to yourself.

This takeover is starting to P*ss me off now, either sort it of F*ck them all off. If we don't get bought then were finished. Only good thing about this is, this is what is going to happen to Manchester United in about 2 to 3 years, the signs are already there, or is that just wishful thinking.

OK, this is my first rumour and a very serious one it is.

Keith Harris is fronting a consortium backed by no other than Orville the duck.

Orville wants Roy to buy Cuddles who will partner Torres up front. Emu is available also at LB.

Cmon guys I was gutted with the result against Man Sh*ty but just to think if we lose only a handful of games this year we will be in the top 4. I think we will get a couple of excellent player right in the 11th hour.

Ok don't all slate me for this im just saying what i "thought" i saw, i live right near the dw stadium and as i was walking past today (25.8.10) at around 3pm i swear i saw roy hodgson arriving in the stadium he was driving a silver mercedes convertible.
As he was at the chelsea vs wigan game the other night i thought he was watching someone don't know who though (nzogbia? figuroa?) so was he arriving to make a deal? If there is any reason why it couldnt be him then feel free to bring it up like i said i just "thought" i saw him.
Even if he was don't think any of the wigan squad are good enough for liverpool, everyone of them was useless against chelsea and blackpool

Don't Liverpool have a press conference every Friday before a game, stop reading things that aren't there. Who is this bloke Keith Harris and he said something interesting in an interview, "You tend to find that people who publicise that they are about to by Liverpool tend not to be". I'm sorry but isn't that what he's doing, who does he represent, Orville the Duck.

C.Cole, Crouch, Huntlaar, Remy, Trezeguet, Zamora, Bellamy, Podolski, Munian, Aguero, Higuain, Ronaldinho, Tevez, these are just a few of the attacking players that have been mentioned up to now on here. . .there are very few with unbeleivable potential Balotelli is one and you can scoff all u want . and the munians, agueros , dzeckos are too expensive for the moment. .Trezeguet would be good for a season.and Terry Henry would tell him to go.SMF

Johnson sees Liverpool glass as half-full

Glen Johnson believes that Liverpool have enough quality to be among the contenders for silverware this campaign.
The England full back feels that the arrival of Joe Cole in particular means that Roy Hodgson is putting together a squad that can be a real threat to the established order. "It's been great to see the new signings joining, " he told LFC Weekly. "Everyone knows what Coley can do and he is another great player for the squad. Then with established internationals like Christian Poulsen coming in and the other lads, the squad is getting bigger and stronger now. "That was a criticism that some people levelled at us last season, saying we didn't have that strength in depth but we do now. "Obviously the news that Stevie and Fernando were staying gave everyone another lift. The last thing any player wants to see is the best players leave. The fans don't want to see that and the manager doesn't want that either.
"It's good for everyone that all the boys have stayed around and I think we're almost there in terms of having the ideal squad."

Could someone please tell me what due diligence means in reference to this potential bid being made is that the 10 days notice thing to the fa board

24 Aug 2010 21:53:39
So, less than a week left of another transfer window and we still have no muchly needly added firepower which has now been every supporters given priority for over a year now. Regardless of who is in ownership or who is the manager of our beloved LFC, this must have been the top priority and once again, so far anyway, we have fallen by the wayside. Come on Roy, Sign us a striker who can support Torres and help us actually out score our opponents. Village

24 Aug 2010 21:49:04

Why are you lot going on and on about how poor Johnson is? What game were you watching? All of man city's offense came on the left where Adam Johnson was attacking Daniel agger. Johnson did a good job on James Milner who is a very good player. I agree that it would be nice to see Kelly some this year but to call Johnson a bad right back is just inaccurate. I cannot name many better in that position. Maicon, Alves, and that is it. And neither of those players are known for top defending they are attacking players. There are certainly more pressing areas for us than right back. Like bringing in some real wide players.

Our woeful away form continues-despite a new manager

Liverpool were bitten yesterday but a clearly better side. Man City were better then Liverpool in every department (quicker, stronger, agile and tactically). Our ridiculous idea to play a 4 4 2 with Ngog and Torres clearly did not work. The gap between Man City and Liverpool was clearly evident yesterday. I would expect them to be better then us after the money they have spent in the last two transfer windows however I thought we could still compete with them but lining up with a formation that hoped to pip a goal against them. I understand that we were missing a few players but we did have other options.
It's going to take time for Hodgson to understand that at Liverpool it's not acceptable to be beaten 3-0 by any side regardless of the muppets we have in charge of this club. Our previous manager worked under similar constraints and he needed (and id) find a solution that allowed us to compete. Let's not forgot we were outplayed against Arsenal as well in the first half until Cole got sent off (then we had a bit of us against the world mentality).
I'm hoping that the Mascherano situation gets sorted out and we can push Gerrard further up the field in the absence of Cole. I'm willing to put this game behind us as the manager asked however we need to improve and improve drastically. Lucas and Gerrard clearly didn't work well together in a old-fashioned pariing and can you remember a pass between Ngog and Torres all night?
Our other new boy, who has looked good in previous occassions, was clearly well off the pace last night. I would have Milan off after 50 minutes and had Maxi on to help contain Johnson who was killing us down our left. Agger also surely deserves a go in the middle of the park with Fabio getting a game at left back.
I thought Jamie was our best player on the night closely followed by Gerrard.

Question. . Is it possible that if a new owner knows he is going to by the club, but cannot complete the takeover before the transfer deadline, can they give the current owners transfer money for this window.

24 Aug 2010 21:41:43
To the editor and any other fans who are sad like me and watch the Academy. . . .I know their has been alot of hype over this lad and I watched him single handedly rip Aston villas defence apart what does everyone think of Toni Silva? {editor's note - he does look the business, I just hope he gets a chance sooner than the likes of Pacheco and Kelly are doing. These youngsters need to get games much younger than they did under Rafa.}

24 Aug 2010 21:39:14

As much as it pains me to say as he has been a great servant to the club but I think it is time for jamie to be phased out a bit. Skrtel and Agger should be the starting centre backs. Jamie is brilliant last ditch defender but most of the last ditch defending is his own doing. Far too many long balls to nobody last season and he has started the same this season. Its as if he doesn't trust his midfield. Brilliant player for cover for injuries but not every game. Move Gerrard back up to behind Torres and put cole on the left or right of a 3 behind torres with either babel or Jovo. If 15 million is on the table for kuyt take it and get diarra and poulsen in the centre of midfield. Utilise the youth aswell. Shelvey, amoo, della vale, pacheco, ince and wilson. If we are having a transition period I would rather see youngsters getting a game. Give us some hope for the future.

24 Aug 2010 21:38:22

Hi guys this my first time post and honestly i was expecting poor match against city reason being we do not have real wingers or flair. kuyt is striker/ forward and even as striker/ forward never been profilc scrorer or even now as winger does not have ability to make assists and jovanovic is forward who can drop down to left side again not natural winger. ngog needs go to on loan and learn for another year before he could possibly be considered to be number 2 to torres and less said about lucas better it is. im not here to say i know who we gonna sign but personally with only few days left i would like to see VDV from real madrid due to his ability to assist and flair and turan who is quick and is natural winger and those 2 could be bought in with money from kuyt and mascherano possible sale and may be VDV on loan and i would also like to see banega as he is real class and better replacement for mascherano. for strikers Ola Toivonen. AS loads of people have mentioned here before we should possibly use glen johnson as winger and kelly as right back and it would give another dimension to team and if we can not afford to buy or loan players above and we were to have bad season why not give youngster like shelvey, amoo and dani pacheco chance and at least we getting them players ready for future.

ins i would like to see below
banega
turan/ ruiz £10-£15 and only one should be bought out of 2
salcido £2-£3
van dar vart Loan
Ola Toivonen £10-£12

outs
lucas
mascherano
kuyt
ngog (possibly on loan)

more us of:
shelvey and amoo and dani pacheco and possibly use glen jonhson as winger and kelly as RB

if we can't buy Ola Toivonen use jovanovic and babel as 2nd fiddle.
I know all above is not possible but if we get 3 out of 5 and get rid of 3 out of 5 and use youngsters we can maybe bring back CL football next season.

Just wondering what people think of my idea of play Daniel Agger as CDM. Personally I think he's too weak for centre half and too slow for left back, but hes a good ball winner and he can pass, unlike Lucas.
I would prefer a centre back pearing of Skertel & Upson/ Carragher.

Keith Harris claims an overseas buyer has completed due diligence for a potential takeover at Liverpool and is now considering an offer between £400million and £500million.

Liverpool are attracting global interest in the quest to secure new owners to replace American duo George Gillett and Tom Hicks at Anfield.

Several possible buy-outs have fallen by the wayside, but there could be fresh hope for Liverpool in the form of a previously unpublicised party.

Harris, who has had a hand in the sales of Aston Villa, West Ham and Manchester City in the past, said due diligence has already been done.

To the person who said this

24 Aug 2010 13:12:53
It annoys me all this talk of Kuyt and Lucas not being good enough , you won't find a harder worker anywhere than Dirk and Lucas is young he's moulding into a excellent player but still recieving criticism , as for Mascherano , good riddens to him , yeah he was good but hes acting big-headed and if he doesn't want to play for the best team in the world let him go , use the money for some people who are commited

im sorry mate but if you think lucas is any good you must have a guide dog . . he is one of the worst players liverpool have ever had and they would of finished fourth last season but for rafa constantly picking him in his line up , to be honest he proberly cost rafa his job . . .the fact remains he is total s* te.
and another worry is that roy looks to be following rafas mistakes . . . . .65 minutes gone 3-0 down and he changes absolutley nothing. . . .worrying times

I do understand where your coming from but i can see potenial in him , obviously hes not excellent and theres alot better but i wouldn't see him for what 6 million when its possible in the future he could double perhaps triple that , he was brazils under 21 captain ;) , id get banega ahead of him or defour and i pray that we don't do bad , i really like roy and i doubt we can win league , 3rd or 4th will be fine with me

i know you just want to back him up which i do appreciate and perhaps im am being a bit harsh on one individual after last nights appalling display but fact remains that he justs wants too much time on the ball and in the premiership you just don't have that , he'd proberly do a lot better in italy where the game is a lot slower. i think we should buy british , say noble, parker , or even joey barton who could be a little more creative and be able to pick out a forward pass , and i would also like to see defour or banega but i think the most important area is the front line , i think jovanovic will be ok but he has got to use kuyt as a striker because he has no pace on the right flank and arda turan would be ideal to play left or right and alternate with jova and cole it would make us a lot more unpredictable to the opposition . also finally another concern is our lack of height , i would definately like to see hangeland come to anfield and a lanky left back with pace ! lol . .oh well that's my reading of it . .what do you think mate

Well that makes sense , Parker and Noble are quality not so sure about Barton , A player ive always admired is Morten Gamst Pedersen from Blackburn , he seems capable of delivering decent crosses , as for a leftback , i would like Bale but 0 chance of that really , personally i was perfectly happy with Riise , the only real people i can think of are Taiwo or Abidal in the mascherano deal , Torres needs some better than N'Gog to support him but id still keep N'gog and loan him out

24 Aug 2010 21:11:32
More problems at Anfield. The inside info last week was that Huang had a deal on the table and the board allowed an 11th hour bid. Huang was backed by the Chinese government and there could have been no better deal for the club. Now those muppets (H&G and Broughton etc) are looking at this new bid (the one Harris has talked in the press today about) and this is nothing more than another investment group looking to make a profit on the same lines as H&G. Harris discredited the Huang deal in the press to gain backing for his deal.
Once again the muppets in the LFC boardroom do as much as they can to keep this great club down.

Havent posted for a while poulsen who expected that ha!

SSN say apparantly the takeover could be up soon with someone having made a bid between 400-500 mil and none of the mentioned proposed buyers are in the running. WHO IS IT! !

now for you fans i think im on the same wave length

masch - how many of you when growing up would of done anything to play for the reds and he refuses nasty little . . . .

lucas - this lad trys but hes just not good enough its that simple. anyone who says hes good is stupid.

would like to see shelvey thrown into the mix looks solid and gerrard was one touch passing with the lad something he thinks about with lucas you can see it every game he thinks twice before passing to him.

amoo this lad is better already then kuyt imo give the lad a chance.

the masch saga he would be hard to replace but not impossible diarra? muntari? maybe theres a few to name if not let him rot hes selfish and arrogant.

ashley young can see him becoming impatience at villa plus didn't play in europe, and newcastle hammered them :-O would be amazing at liverpool! ! bring british lads back into the side with a few continentals and WINGERS sorry for the essay ED

24 Aug 2010 21:01:27
If mascher is sold to barca for approx £20-24m and woy is given all of it, i really believe he's got the nous to sort this baby out!

what do we need
1. a LB
2. a winger (fast)
3. poss another striker

he's already covered himself for masch leaving by gettin in poulsen, who will be a good buy. experienced and very good on the ball.

so the candidates:
1. LB - calcido(3-4m) warnock (5-7m)
2. winger - ashley young (15m) swp (6-8m), arda turan (12m), matthieu valbuena (10m)
3. toivenen (10m), ruiz(10m), suarez(15m), forlan(12m)

i'm sure you'll agree that any of the above will fit into our price range, what with the money we get plus what we have. and most importantly they will breath life into our current squad

24 Aug 2010 20:52:28

Whatever happened to back the team, , back the players, , ok lucas is not the best in the world, but he is nowhere near as bad as all the so called red fans on here who slag him off say he is, support the guy.

24 Aug 2010 20:45:12

If an offer for liverpool is accepted we won't have the investment as the 10 days needed for the premier league to asses the bid would take us into september. so everyone needs to chill out we all new it was going to be a tough season, we just have to keep behind the team and show were the best fans in the world. the good days will return but not this season im afraid :(

Real Madrid Coach Jose Mourinho Admits Roy Hodgson Faces Uphill Battle At Liverpool

The Portuguese tactician believes Hodgson will have a tough time turning things around at Anfield. .
Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho believes that Liverpool have been getting worse and worse with each passing year, in a thinly veiled barb directed at Rafa Benitez.

Benitez parted company with the Premier League giants earlier this summer to fill the vacancy at San Siro after Mourinho left the Nerazzurri for the Bernabeu. Last season the Reds failed to finish in the top four in the English top flight and Mourinho feels that new Reds manager Roy Hodgson will find it tough to resurrect the former European champions.

"It is very difficult work for Roy to do it with Liverpool as, over the last years, they have been getting worse, worse and worse, " the Portuguese is quoted as saying by the Daily Telegraph. "The Liverpool of 2004 was better than the Liverpool of 2005, 2005 was better than 2006 and 2006 better than 2007.

"And they arrive at a situation now where, but for Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard, Pepe Reina, Fernando Torres, if his head is there, it is very difficult for Roy to make Liverpool champions. He needs time and it's not easy because I don't think they went in the right direction."

The 'Special One' also commented on Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson's comments about Manchester City's spending spree this summer.

"When Sir Alex spoke about kamikaze spending, if he was talking about (City) eating the market, I agree with him.

"But if they have the money, they can do it and, if they have the ambition to win the Premier League, they can do it. "If someone wants to compete with them for a player it is very difficult because they are dominant in the market. The player they say they want is the player that they get. "I was interested in [Aleksandar] Kolarov when I came here to Madrid, but I couldn't compete with City as they went to values that I couldn't."

just want to state i was the first person on here yesterday 2 say how we are not fulham fc and we do not need to bye over the hill golden oldies ie poulsen , trezeguet , salcido and we had been blinded bye the joe cole signing i stated this b4 the man city game and most voted for me being wrong ,

the point is rafa , hodgson purslow all know us liverpool fans dnt want to see lucas in the starting line up , us liverpool fans know our football and we no he is not gd enough to start for our team same goes 4 ngog , theres no ifs or maybes its the truth , if any liverpool fan can honestly tell me ur excited wen they are in the startin line up , UR LYING, so why are they still being played ,

we could have played

reina
johnson carra agger aurelio
maxi gerrard aqua jova
kuyt torres

that would have beaten man city ,

how can we justify loaning out aquilani wen he hasnt had a chance and he is ten times better than lucas and poulsen,

our midfield has gne from xabi alonso and masch
to poulsen and lucas

and still no striker to cover torres . . . absouloute joke

how can liverpool football club just be looking 4 a back up for torres we should be looking for competition for torres or a partner.

soz to go on just ad to express! !lol

any ways

liverpool should sell masch for 20 mill +hleb

get in ashley young for maybe 16 mill

and i would love lassana diarra he shouldnt cost too much as i dnt think he is a key player for real , reina
johnson carra agger aurelio

hleb l.diarra gerrard young

cole
torres

subs jones kuyt kelly skrtle poulsen bable maxi

now come on that is a proppa liverpool team and could maybe be possible some one send this to roy ! ! ! ! !

24 Aug 2010 20:34:25
Having watched last night, it seems obvious where we are falling short. Agger was obviously shown up by someone with a bit of craft but he's a centre half. Aurelio, Kelly, Mavinga natural full backs but we prefer a centre back. For years we have needed 2 quality wingers and its never been addressed. Turans name keeps being thrown around and he would obviously be a quality addition that would make so many fans happy. Not a rumour but has anyone heard about Alexis Sanchez? outstanding at the World cup and I really thought someone would snap him up, another player who would get the fans excited. Finally a striker is a must. Torres isn't fit and can't hold all of our hopes whilst hes off the pace. Ngog needs time, possibly a loan move would be ideal and god only knows where Babels head is, scores a goal then pulled off, then benched for the following game, wish we'd give him a run in the team. Tovoinen/ Ruiz- really hope they will be worth the hype. In spite of all of this, Come on Roy! Red for life! YNWA

LIVERPOOL SHOULD GET GRAFITE! !
HES NOT GETTING A GAME AT WOLFSBURG AS MCLAREN HAS BOUGHT IN MANDZUKIC TO PLAY NEXT TO DZEKO.
HE CAN SCORE GOALS AND WILL BE A GREAT BACK UP FOR TORRES!
COST AROUND £5-6MILLION! ! !

{Editor's Note - May need to fight off Birmingham City for his services.}

Has it come to this?!

24 Aug 2010 20:32:16
Not a rumour just a thought! i think we shud keep the money from the toivonen bid and if mascherano is sold by the end of the transfer window, we could use the money to sign fabiano, i think he would come to us now since sevilla arnt int the cl no more! Shud cost around 20 million pound

A few years ago (mainly after the 2007-2008 season) I would have snapped Inter Milan's hands off if they had offered anything over £8 million for Dirk Kuyt back then. Fast forward to this summer however, and I'm dreading the constant reports linking our Dutchman with the European Champions. The stories are conflicting however, with the British press reporting that Roy Hodgson won't allow Kuyt to join Inter, while the Italian press are reporting that they are actually getting closer to signing him.
I have to admit that in the past I have been one of Dirk Kuyt's many critics. I never actually wanted him to be sold but I used to feel that he would be best utilised as a third choice striker who could come on in games and give us new options along with more energy. Another reason why I used to want Kuyt to be dropped to the bench was because up until the 08-09 season I felt that the Dutchman had become a bit complacent about his place in the team due to the fact that Rafa Benitez clearly favoured him.
It was in the summer of 2008 however when I began to see how effective Kuyt was playing in a good team. He was brilliant at Euro 2008 with Holland and never looked out of place playing in a team full of very technical footballers. Maybe the reason why I took Dirk for granted was because I can't relax when watching Liverpool games, meaning any mistakes made by players are more likely to wind me up. But being able to sit back and watch Dirk play as part of a team that I wished well but wasn't attached to meant I was able to view his contributions from a new perspective. They were unlucky not to go further in that competition but the tournament clearly seemed to have a positive effect on Dirk Kuyt's form going into the next season as he went on to have his best year to date with us, finishing with an impressive 15 goals and being a key player in our charge for the title.
Last season wasn't his best but he really did establish himself as a player to be relied upon during the big occasions (his winner against Everton being an example). The World Cup confirmed that Dirk Kuyt really has taken to his role as a wide-forward/ winger with the Dutchman finishing as the tournament's joint top assister. Watching him representing Holland in the World Cup final, the biggest match a footballer could ever play in, made me proud and what made it more satisfying was that people were no longer wondering how Dirk Kuyt managed to get into Holland's first XI, he had truly proved himself as being worthy.
His performance against Arsenal a week ago showed that he may again be ready to carry his international form into the new season with us. He was very good while in possession and along with that showed some nice touches to take on Arsenal's defenders every now and then. I'm a believer in Dirk Kuyt's abilities and I also believe that under Roy Hodgson we could yet see the very best that the Dutchman has to offer. I can only hope that we manage to hold on to Dirk this year, as we're hardly in a position to allow any more key players to leave with such little time left to find replacements.

I wish people will stop saying that signing Trezeguet, Salcido and M.Diarra would be terrible. Trezeguet will get us goals and will be brought in on loanor in a swap deal for the greek n Insua, Salcido is a class left back who had a great world cup and Diarra is an amazing holding mid n at the age of 29 will give us at least 3-4 years of good play, anyway Madrid are willing to let him go on a free to liverpool so would be a bargin.
Overall Trezeguet would cost nothing
Salcido would cost at most £4mill
Diarra would be free
Hodgson knows these players will do us a job for the season untill we can get new owners, then they will be great squad players

I think far too many fans on here live in hope.
Sometimes there's no happy ending and i honestly believe the wicked witches of the west have a tight hold on Liverpool. Saying they are interested in selling up and actually doin it are two completely different things.
Think Early 1900's football? how many famous old clubs are in the pages of history?
be optimistic in the heart but i'm afraid pessimistic minds are here to stay

Whilst i appreciate kuyts work ethic"although that's the least you should expect" he is a journey man with the odd goal. i really don't know how its came to be that players like kuyt, lucas , n gog and babel, to name a few, are first fixtures in this club. in the last ten years our signings have been horrific but that blame rests at the previous managers feet not roys. i honestly feel its time to back the existing and new, especially , youngsters . but whatever roy goes for then back it i say. also s**g mascherano. parasite! ynwa

I posted yesterday regarding a link that I had been told of by a good source between Keith Harris and Sheik Mohammed bin rashid al maktoum, I can also confirm that Amanda Staveley is also involved with the same bid, he told me that due diligence is complete and that a statement will be released from Anfield either tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest that preferential status had been granted to that bidder to tie up the loose ends. They have set this friday aside for an Anfield press conference to announce that a deal has been completed though due to formalities such as the PL 10 day ruling and the final look at the books as part of the DD process, the new owners will not formally take over til mid september- too late for this transfer window. I can fully vouch for my source, he doesn't have much time for football and is from a financial background and works for a company with links to Barcap but knows I'm a big red so has tried to keep me informed- he also told me two weeks ago that Huang was a sham and Barcap and the RBS never took him seriously throughout.

This was posted last night you have to admit it's pretty acurate about the Due Dilligence and the date of the potentional takeover according to Keith Harris IF it's true.

And the word now that seems to be doing the rounds is that Huang was never a serious bidder so the post last night could be one of the best put on this site.

Just seen the rumour on graffite, then the editors comment on having to face competition from birmingham. That really does bring home the situation, that we are on a decline. We need some good news quick.

Liverpool's 25 man squad – who makes Roy's FINAL CUT?

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has just over a week to decide on the 25 players he will choose.
The likely squad of 21 is listed below, while this will be further boosted by any new signings and the club's u-21 players.
GK: Pepe Reina, Brad Jones
FB: Fabio Aurelio, Glen Johnson, Stephen Darby, Emiliano Insua
CB: Jamie Carragher, Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel, Soto Kyrgiakos
MF: Steven Gerrard, Christian Poulsen, Lucas Leiva, Joe Cole, Jay Spearing
AMF: Dirk Kuyt, Ryan Babel, Maxi Rodriguez, Milan Jovanovic
F: Fernando Torres, David Ngog
Hodgson certainly has a great deal of work to do in the final few days of the transfer market as he makes the last-minute additions and finishing touches to his squad of players.

Is it just me but does everybody feel that large parts of the press and media really hate Liverpool FC and love the fact it seems to be struggling a little on the pitch but also off the pitch.
Could it be that the likes of Sky Sports News and Sky Sports in general, the BBC, ITV and the main Daily newspapers are run by presenters and journalists who support London clubs and Man Utd. Does anybody remember the anti Liverpool bias when Michael Owen signed for Newcastle when he returned from Real Madrid?
Look at the over dramatisation last friday from the presenters and their interview with Tony Evans of The Times when the Huang bid ended.
It is clear to me they all want to see the club fall flat on its face. What we need in the coming moths is the spirit of spring 2005 after we were constantly rubbished by Chelski fans, Mourinho and most of the media.
I am not saying we are goingto win the Prem. League but how about the FA cup.
We must all stick together, get behind the team (inc. Hodgson)and hope the takeover takes place after which the Club and its fans will show the likes of Sky etc. what this club is all about

I giv up with u roy, u let a quality quality player like aquilani who just need to b given a chance leave the club but stick with mediocore players like lucas who are given to many chances and don't perform well. he keeps saying he is lookng at all these players but stil hasnt moved for any of them, we are in desperate need of a striker and we have the funds but for sum reason we havnt bort 1. i hate to say it but unless he changes the way he is in the trasnfer market, it will be a complete repeat of last season.

That result hurt for all the wrong reasons last night. I can take a 3-0 defeat off a good side but with Mascherano pulling his stunt, the lack of fight in half our team and the realisation that we have players there that simply arnt at the required level really brought a shock to the system. I wonder if we have any scouts anymore of use? There is no point in trying to use the likes of Jovanovic, Lucas or Johnson for anything. They will never be players and anybody who can't see that should not bother following football. The club is rotten from the inside out with jobsworths and people who don't have a f*cking clue what they are doing. Its just a cashcow being milked dry living on past glories. We can only progress with the realisation of this truth so for everyones sake I hope we can be honest with ourselves. We are not the club of the '60s, '70s or '80s. The fact is we are a club treading water hoping for the miraculous like Istanbul (where we were outplayed) and Cardiff (where we were again outplayed).

Really hurts saying all of this but like I said unless we wake up we could only get worse.

24 Aug 2010 19:24:38
Well well well. The transition of LFC in into the new Fulham is well underway. Bringing in players such as Jovanovic, Poulsen, Jones and looking at players such as Trezuget, Diarra (the crap one!), Debuchy, konchesky and even the boys from PSV shows that LFC are well and truely mid table material.

The most famous acd successful club in the world has been brought to its knees as Roy searches for new players in aladdins cave.

I mean, out of all them players who I have mentioned, how many of them would Barca, Man Utd and Chelsea have. . the answer is none.

24 Aug 2010 19:24:28

Who ever buys Liverpool i just hope it's not a sugar daddy like ManC have, someone that goes out and buys all the worlds best players and we win every trophy possible, i would rather we built our team slowly over a number of years and. . .OH who the f*ck am i trying to kid? I hope he's the richest bloke in the world, buys the best players and makes us the most succesful club in the world! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Can people stop suggesting Hodgson tries to buy Matthew Upson. I rather we'd resign Palletta, Kvarme, Piechnich, Scales or Hysen - JOKE! Upson is quite old and very overrated.

24 Aug 2010 19:22:08
Out of all the players linked over the summer I'd go for Arda Turan, Bryan Ruiz, Steven Defour and Carlos Salcido and with the Javier Mascherano deal getting closer (hopefully) funds should be available.

24 Aug 2010 19:18:22
We have never recovered from selling Alonso and now it looks like we're going to lose the best defensive midfielder in the world. The Eastlands pitch looked too big for us last night and our midfield, particularly Lucas and Gerrard didn't get anywhre near Yaya or Barry. Tevez simply dropped into the hole and we lost our shape far too easily. If we had Alonso still, we would have controlled the game more effectively. What Alonso did for us was to release the ball and the counter attack quickly, making it difficult for the opposition to pick our dangerous players up. Our team now, lacks quickness of thought and speed in general. We play in front of the opposition instead of playing through them with pace and movement and it pisses me right off! ! ! Now we're going to sell Mascherano and lose that tenacity in midfield that helps to raise the tempo of the game. We won't achieve anything this year because we're too rigid and opposition teams will shackle us easily.

We really do need a bit of an overhaul in playing staff because we're effectively still playing with Rafa's squad and it will be difficult to get them out of old habits. The players i think we need are as follows:

A. Young - Pace, skill, technique, QUALITY!
Toulalan - Dominant, organised, WINNER!
M. Albrighton - Creative, future England player
F. Contreau - Equal to Evra, Cole, Clichy
C. Tevez - Unrealistic but would be the perfect foil for Torres
G. Rossi - Alternative to Tevez. Intelligent and look's after the ball well. Good finisher!

I would allow Kuyt, Aquilani, Insua and peripheral squad players to leave. Why do people believe that Spearing could do a job for us? It's a bit of an overreaction to the fact that he is a 'local' lad, although i do think he could do a job for the likes of Wigan, Blackpool or Blackburn.

I think i'm talking sense. Does anyone agree or have i upset anyone with these comments?

Do not let anyone say that no one is interested in buying Liverpool (Are you listening Tony Evans of The Times). It is clear that Liverpool are admired all over the world and if the price is right considering the need to build the New Anfield there will be lots of interested bidders with very deep pockets.

For months now all I have read either here, or on other media outlets is about this F* *ing take over. It is clear that something is not quiet right and that the club have far more financial problems than we ever thought. Everyone who has come in and showed an interest to buy us has reversed out of a deal as soon as they have looked at the books. I think there is no one interested in us at all and if all we are left with at the end of the day is the Syrian consortium, then I'd rather have us stay with H&G.

It could have been someone using an Arabic keyboard.

{Editor's Note: Or rather simply it is somone using an online translator to translate from English to Arabic - and then you have translated it back. Having had someone who speaks Arabic as their natural tongue check it, she thinks it has been written by a first year student or translated by a bit of software - probably Google.}

Neither ; its from an arabic (UAE) newspaper article back in sep 2006, its good written arabic.(Written arabic is a bit different from the spoken one, its more classic and not littered by locality)

I believe it would be fantastic for the club to be owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum. He has great personal wealth, loves sport and it has been said he loves Liverpool FC.
However these rumours surrounding Prince Al Waleed bin Talal al Saud, who also has massive personal wealth of many billions of pounds seem to be gaining strength especially after seeing the Keith Harris article in the London Evening Standard today and his interview on Talksport a couple of weeks ago.
The takeover 'guru' Keith Harris suggested the winning bid will be the one that has been the quietest. Not the loudest like the Kirdi and Huang bids.

Hodgson: Nobody cares, Ryan. So, what, you're not going to partake in any team activities until you get what you want, Javier?
Mascherano: Right. And I'm not doing anything else, either. I'm totally on strike. I'm not even going to breathe until you sell me.
Hodgson: Oh, come now, Javier. That's being a bit over-dramatic, don't you think?

Hodgson: You're being ridiculous, Javier.
Babel: LOL, I'm telling this story on Twitter and it's taking all day.
Hodgson: Nobody cares, Ryan!

Hodgson: OK, Javier, you're proved your point. You can stop now. You're out of the lineup, but I am not promising a move to Barca.
Torres: He doesn't look right, boss.
Hodgson: Oh, let him keep it up. He can't do it forever. Barcelona won't sign a dead man.
Mascherano: Pep could heal me!
Hodgson: I thought you weren't breathing?

TO ALL THE LUCAS LOVERS. .

get yourself down the kop end, spend your hard earned money to watch that average, pathetic pure excuse of a CM running around aimlessly and then tell me you want to "give him a chance". .

He can't even keep up with Barry who is sloooooooooow.
Even Kolo Toure burst past him last night. He has no positional sense either.

STOP asking people to support a player that would make us 7th position again. You can tell Gerrard and Torres know he is weak too!

Is Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al Saud Take over of liverpool true are false, as i expect people are just putting his name down because he is like the 8th richest man in the world, and putting false hope into LFC fans that love the club. the finger seems to always point in the direction of sheikhs/ arabians. .

All i want to say is that unless you are the LFC chairman, CEO, commercial director or H&G. You know nowt.

When Haung's self proclaimed bid appeared, everybody thought it the real deal. Most business people know that only a very few people are really in the know. I do love the fact that the journalists were all over this saying that LFC have lost their only buyer doom and gloom. .

It does appear (could be false) that these special journalists may have got it wrong and there may be more than one bit on the table, surprise surprise. .

I do hope it is correct and that reputable and financially sound businesses have conducted their full DD ready to make an offer. Then we can move on and let the football do the talking. actually second thoughts lol

Mascherano goes on strike

Javier Mascherano is reportedly on strike until Liverpool submit to his desire and sell him to Barcelona. He didn't dress for Liverpool's 3-0 loss to Man City on Monday night and manager Roy Hodgson described him as being "not in the right frame of mind at the moment to play the game because his head has been turned by the offer from Barcelona." The following is a transcript of what we imagine to be the conversation that lead to that statement.

Hodgson: OK, here's the lineup, boys. Pepe and the back line stay the same as the Arsenal match. In the middle we'll have Steven, Javier-
Mascherano: Nope. I'm not playing.
Hodgson: Pardon?
Mascherano: I'm not playing. I'm on strike.

God help us. We've really taken several steps back.
What can you do to screw up a successful team? Take out the spine. Get rid of Alonso and Masch and replace them with an unproven crock and Lucas. Brilliant strategy. Then watch Man City v Liverpool and cry.
When are we going to make an effort to bring in a holding mid fielder and a creative midfielder to replace two of the best in the world - because until that happens we will look to compete with Wigan and WBA to stay in the premiership.

24 Aug 2010 18:44:39
Some people think working hard is enough to warrant a place in the team, working hard should be a basic requirement for any lfc player. ngog, kuyt, lucas should never be first choice players just because they work hard.

RAFA has been asked to return by MAKTOUM. As everyone knows Rafa, Gerrard and Carra met Sameer El Ansari in 06-07 season. Rafa left a big impression on DIC and MAKTOUM with his vision if DIC had taken over. Both RAFA and MAKTOUM have unfinished business and the Sheikh has asked him to return next year. Rafa has cooled on the Masch deal and has decided against Kuyt as hence the hold up on Masch to barca. JAS THE MAN WITH A CHAIR

24 Aug 2010 18:37:02
All the Liverpool fans screamed it. . and you got it!

4-4-2. . . And look what happened. .

Rafa changed the way football is played with his tactics at Valencia and was quickly copied by both of Barcelona manager's. . he came to liverpool and was was very quickly copied by Alex at manu (remember when they started playing Rooney out wide in a 3 man attack, by Mourinho at chelsea, and later by Arsene at arsenal. . (yet the media called our formation 4-5-1 not only to turn the fans against him but in case anyone with a bit of common sense realised that everyone else was copying rafa so he was in a fact a great manager) Now people have played 4-5-1 and 4-3-3. but not this way. . not the way Rafa played it. it was a fluid formation that changes so easily. you all moan about 2 defensive midfielders or only 1 striker. . or 5 in the middle. let me explain. . 4-5-1? ? NO! basicly when you attack you have 3 up front(ever wondered why rafa was so stupid to play strikers, babel, Kuyt etc on the wing. . now you know. he didn't they where left or right forwards) so 3 up front plus with a player in the hole just behind then (gerrard last season) basicly 4 up front (well in fact 5. but i'll explain the 5th in the next point) and when you attack they fell back to defend into a 4-5-1 with gerrard helping the midfield and the wing forwards helping there fullbacks. .

2 defensive midfielders means more defensive? NO! ! one of the def midfielder slots in at left back (Lucas) or right back(masch)for cover when the full back attacks(ever wondered why Mash was played as a right back when johnson was injured. well watch his movment. he's there most of the game anyway as johnson is nearly always forward) this makes the 5 man in attack and helps to double up on the opposing fulback. . And if we attacked through the middle only one protected the back 4 and the other went between him and the player in the hole so was in fact just a central midfielder. .

Only 1 up front is not as attacking as 2 NO! . . well if you've understood these previous points your see how rigid a 4-4-2 is. . dominating the middle of the park helps you dominate position. this is far easier with 3 in the middle than 2. . .

Woy first started playing rafa's way with the old system in the last 2 games and look what happened Then look when he played 4-4-2 last night. the only time this can be played is if at home against a weak team you know will put 11 men behind the ball. . play a team challenging for the title, at their ground so inclined to attack, in front of there owner for the first time, and after spending over 100 mill again. . All who play rafa's way. . and 3-0 is by far not the worse result we are going to get all season. .

I really don't get how last season we was missing goals! we needed a new stiker to play with torres/ or as back up now 4-5 month on were still waiting for one

roy pull your finger out and buy a top goal scorer or its gonna be the same bad season again

Liverpool Under No Pressure From Banks To Sell Javier Mascherano - Report

Liverpool will not be forced to sell Barcelona target Javier Mascherano due to pressures from banks, according to Sky Sports News.
The club are currently up for sale after owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks ran up a debt of £351.4 million since taking over in February 2007. With the Royal Bank of Scotland putting the squeeze on the Americans due to the sum, reports had emerged that player sales were needed to help balance the books.
The club are understood to have rejected this out of hand and insisted they would not be forced into agreeing to sell the unsettled Argentine.Reports emerged yesterday that Mascherano decided to sit out of the game against Manchester City, which led to speculation that he was trying to force an exit from Anfield to join Barcelona. It was also reported that the Blaugrana had tabled an initial bid of €14.6 million for the midfielder, but Goal.com UK believes that the offer was rejected and that Liverpool were holding out for €30 million.

{Editor's Note.....What Mascherano decided to sit out the game? LMAO...it was Hodgsons decision and he was 100% right to show who's boss...even if it's only for a while!}

With the owner of man city been at the game last nite for the first time could this be that he know that Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum is about to bid for liverpool coz 1 of the sheikh daugthers is married to the man city owner brothers . and he was there so he gloat to the sheikh afterward that his man city beat liverpool . because these sheikh are very much rivals in other sports like horse racing and f1 and all alot banter go on between them .

{Editor's Note: I think you are setting your sights a little high if you are thinking Joey Barton would come to Anfield.}

Don't worry Ed. It isn't offensive. It says that Sheikh Mo. Bin Rashid Al Maktoum is part of a bid to take over Liverpool FC. Not sure where the poster got this from. It could have been someone using an Arabic keyboard.

Ffs. . After the wake up call of last nights performance I think most knowledgeable people and die hard reds understand we have a massive task to get back to competing at a consistant level week in week out for the title. The first half against one of our rivals arsenal we were again very poor we created very little and after another shocking performance against another rival city last night we have to have a long look at ourselves. We have possibly 5 top drawer players who would get into most teams the rest of the starting 11 are at best squad players, the bench is made up of promising talent pacheco and second string players FACT. As a die hard red i have been to both matches so far and I havnt seen anything different from last seasons performances which is a massive concern. It's not Roys fault it's the team that needs quality players adding rather than a quantity of second rate players. Joe Cole was a big plus but since then we have gone back to buying players for the future and players past there sell by date unfortunatly we have not got time for the future as our rivals have otherwise we risk the prospect of losing torres and gerrard either in January or at the end of the season FACT.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum: A new owner with the means to match Abramovich

The £450m needed to buy the five-times European Cup winners is small change to Dubai International Capital. Nick Harris believes the pay-off may be considerable

What do buy when you are one of the world's richest men and you already own everything most other people can only dream of? Yesterday's confirmation that Dubai International Capital, an offshoot of the empire controlled by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, seems to be on the verge of buying Liverpool hammers home the answer: a Premiership football club.

But the motivation behind DIC's move is different to that which inspired the spate of other foreign takeovers in recent years, a well-placed source close to the deal said last night. "This is not about turning Liverpool into a trophy asset, " the source said. "It is not a case of Liverpool becoming the sheikh's personal plaything. DIC is a serious international player in all sorts of fields and this is one opportunity among many that makes sense."

Last nights game has brought a touch of realism. Liverpool FC is a great name for tradition & history but not the present we are struggling. At the moment we are a shambles. Poor signings, massive debt and a squad that lacks pace and a cutting edge has left us struggling. If the ownership is not resolved soon things will only get worse. The only thing that has kept me going is the belief that after listening to the Kenny Huang comments about the board and the subsequent ******** written in the papers LFC had an opportunity to put out a statement clarifying the position but they have not. It leads me to think that they will have something concrete to say in the next week or so.

Ok, im noy gonna harp on about how long ive supported the reds, but, i have to agree with with mourino when he says liverpool have been in decline for several years under the spanish fella, ive never really liked his tactics from 2007, he was lucky 2005, and luckier 2006, yes we came second in the league, but a one off im afraid, im no footy manager, but i know enough about the game to make these comments, jamie c, too old and slow now, johnson, a poor right back in my mind, can't tackle and slowish, lucas, well nowt i can say people with nowse don't know already, useless and colour blind i reckon, he defo can't see red, that's for sure, kuyt, yep, marathon runner maybe, footballer, debateable, and as for ngog, looks like a paraplegic when he runs, so to summarise, we only ever field half a decent squad, and what makes me laugh is, some blokes getting paid millions to manage and he can't see it, everyone else can. maybe its time to give the younguns a chance, can't be worse than the wasters ive mentioned, get rid, take it on the chin and lets try and start playing football again, or bring roy evans back, cos his teams played good footy as it goes, just never got boardroom support, i think kennys face said it all last night at the game, he must be thinking what dross this lot are at the moment, and who can blame him, cheers, as optimistic red.

Liverpool's secret new bidder can now be revealed. Keth Harris has said he can't say publicly who it is becasue the buyer wishes to remain anonymous. . But it should be obvious to anyone with half a brain that it's Orville. Harris and Orville made a fortune from entertainment but want a new project. Liverpool might just have found the duck that lays the golden egg. Hicks and Gillet will be very comfortable with the similarities between them and the new duo, having years of experience with their hands up someone elses backside. Any new Liverpool owner has to pass stringent tests. Talk through the side of your mouth, use dummies as stooges, and be football featherweights. Perfect! MikeG

Not so much a rumour, more of a question.

Keith Harris has come out and said a possible overseas bidder he is representing has performed due diligence. So what would be the next step in this process?

I assume it would be for the interested party to submit an offer for the club.

So, if an offer was made, say tomorrow, how long would it potentially take for the deal to go through. Is it at all possible it could be complete before the transfer window closes? I know it's wishful thinking but just wondered what stages and what timescales would be involved from submitting a bid and finalising a deal.

Any comments would be appreciated.IWWT

I don't think Keith Harris' group are too far from a formal bid, it would take 4-6 weeks to complete the paperwork being that due diligence is done, which will get us quite close or on the october 6th deadline.

When the board last made a statement the board were obviously aware someone was carrying out the DD and that's why Huang pulled out.

hope this helps. . the next stage is just wait for the PC which will confirm a formal and binding bid has been made. . .quite soon, next 2 weeks i would think!

If the new owner of Liverpool is to be Sheikh MOHAMMED AL MAKTOUM of Dubai then he will be doing it with his own enormous personal wealth and not through the DIC organisation.

24 Aug 2010 17:37:24

It appears Keith Harris is actually telling the truth, at last a reliable source.

One would think he must be a front for a Middle Eastern buyer. . . .nobody who has ben in the press though, so not DIC or Al-kharafi!

24 Aug 2010 17:34:49

No offence to Carragher but come end of the season he will more than likely be be on the bench. Hodgson is looking to bring in youngsters and by next year Wilson could all but be a regular starter. Unless off course we get bought.

again we are not going to get owners like man city have got who are willing to spend millions i think we need 2 be realistic this season and just hope for the best i hope to g*d i am wrong just really don't think i am. anyone agree? ?

Why not push johnson up to right wing (somewhere he played, and played well while at Portsmouth) as he's good going forward and get kelly in at right back to replace him?! solves the right wing problem"

Completely agree. Bale was half the player he is now when he had to defend and like it or not Johnson probably has a better shot to goal ratio than Kuyt, so it's at least worth a try. Maybe then we can get a RB who can defend.

24 Aug 2010 17:10:45
After 2 proper games, Roy Hodgson must now know that he has a massive rebuilding programme. The money Rafa wasted over the last 3 years is unbelievable, who was responsible letting him buy all the dross. The only players we have that are good enough to be in a premiership winning side are - Riena, Johnson, Gerard, Cole, Torres and Macherano if he stays. The rest are squad players. Roy needs to buy 5 -6 quality players to win the league. He can afford to sell - Lucas, Kuyt, Soto, Skrtl and Ngog as we have better youngsters at the club.

We Need

Left Back
2 x centre backs
left wing
right wing/ centre midfield
centre forward.

After LFCs disappointing match against City, I realise that fourth place in the league is far away with roys squad today. Lucas is not good enough, kuyt is not good enough, carrra is a very good sub, agger, ngog, jovanovic, babel and skrtel are all good subs.

So in my mind the players who are good enough for the first team is: Reina, Johnson, Gerrard, Cole and torres.

If I were roy I would have sold: mascherano, lucas, kyrgiakos, insua, cavalieri, itandje, kuyt and el zhar.

And the players i would love to see in an LFC shirt is: debuchy, santon, ruiz, shawcross, figueroa, defour, toivonen and nzogbia.

The team would then be like this:

GK: Reina, Jones
RB: Debuchy, Santon(LB)
CB: Shawcross, Carra(RB), Agger(LB), Skrtel, Wilson, Kelly(RB, LB)
LB: Aurelio, Figueroa
RM: Johnson, Cole (CAM)
CDM: Poulsen(CM)
CM: Gerrard, Defour, Shelvey
CAM: Babel, Nzogbia(LM, RM)
LM: Jovanovic
FW: Torres, Toivonen, Ruiz, Ngog

With these players we may have a shot at winning a title.

24 Aug 2010 16:57:21

As a loyal Scottish Liverpool fan for over 20 years and bear in mind i'm only 31 am i the only one who see's that Ngog, Lucas, Insua etc are simply not good enough to wear the red shirt? Liverpool are seriously lacking pace on the wings and after last nights performance i really think that Kuyt wants to leave too, if we can get 12 million for Kuyt then take it and invest in A.Young and maybe Agbonlahor. . If there is no decent signings made before the end of the window then i honestly think we will be struggling to make the Europa League next year, Roy if you read this Please do not play Ngog or Lucas again. . they are hopeless, why don't we give the lad Pachecho a chance up front with Torres?

24 Aug 2010 16:49:08
Sell kuyt, ngog, lucas, kyrgiakos, insua, masch and babel. .

Bring in
Banega
Debauchy
Trezeguet
Elia
Gignac

Set up
Reina
Johnson, carra, skrtel, agger
Maxi gerrard poulsen
Cole
Gignac torres

Subs.
Debauchy
Jones
Agger
Banega
Elia
Aurelio
Trezeguet

Easily a premiership title contending team. .
Need to lose these below par squad players!

''DIC are set to become Liverpool's next owners in a few weeks and Roy Hodgson isn't their man. They want a high profile manager. They are looking at Gus Hiddink.
. . .
aren't DIC in financial crisis? they owe billions to the banks from what i've read in papers etc''

Hi Ed - please post this as I think it will end some of the misconceptions that arise a lot here and on other sites. . .

I have just returned from over 2 years in Abu Dhabi / UAE and people need to realise how it works over there. . .Abu Dhabi are the financial might of the UAE and have ultimately bailed out Dubai from their financial issues (85% of the natural resources of the the UAE are in the hands of Abu Dhabi). . the long term strategy (both economic and developmental) for Abu Dhabi is co-ordinated by Mubadala (Ed - please remove name if you have legal concerns). . .establishing the UAE as a center of World sporting events is one of the key strategic plans for the region, and hosting the champions league final is part of this (they already have the last F1 race of the season, world tennis championship, just hosted the FIFA world club championship, Qatars bid for the 2022 World cup etc). . thus over the next 2-3 years expect ownership of key european clubs ripe for takeover to move to UAE based 'individuals' who are really centrally controlled. . Liverpool, Rangers, Valencia and Roma all fall into this category. . influx of transfer money and investment follows and, as all of us who follow football know, this would then create a powerfull club vote for UEFA etc events. . .this is the strategy. . .believe it or not as to whether this will happen but this is definitly the reason for interest in football club ownership from the region. .

Liverpool await £400m bid from mysterious new overseas buyer

Renowned deal-broker Keith Harris claims an overseas buyer is considering making an offer of between £400million and £500million for Liverpool.
The former Football League chairman, who has had a hand in the sales of Aston Villa, West Ham and Manchester City in the past, said due diligence has already been done.
Harris also said the party he was representing was not one mentioned publicly before The overseas buyer we represent has completed due diligence. A huge amount of work has been done, ' he said. 'It is none of the groups mentioned in the press. The ball is now in our client's court to make an offer.
'I do not think the deal will be done before the transfer window closes this month but the next pressure point is October when some of the RBS loan of £237million has to be repaid.
'It may happen then. But in the present climate these things are impossible to predict' Last week Hong Kong-based businessman Kenny Huang - whose interest was allied to the Chinese government - pulled out of the bidding process, while Syrian-Canadian Yahya Kirdi's much-publicised interest has been treated with scepticism.
Harris said history has taught him that those who went public before an agreement had been reached rarely succeeded.
'The Chinese government involvement was always a bit far-fetched, ' he told the Evening Standard. 'In any takeover situation, when people resort to announcing it to the media, you have to question the seriousness of the offer.
'If the name of the prospective buyer comes out before the deal is done then probably it is never going to be done.
'Look at when Chelsea was sold in 2003. My firm was advising the club and we only knew of Roman Abramovich on the Thursday before the deal was completed the following Tuesday.'
Harris worked on a bid for Liverpool two years ago for Kuwaiti Nasser Al Khorafi, whom it is claimed agreed a deal for £300million up front and another £100million based on financial performance only to pull out at the last minute. 'He just lost his appetite. No explanation was forthcoming, ' added Harris.

LIVERPOOL SHOULD SERIOUSLY REPORT BARCELONA TO THE COURT OF ARBITRATION AND FIFA. THIER PURSUIT EVEN LED TO THE PLAYER REFUSING TO PLAY GAMES FOR HIS CLUB. IM SICK OF THIS BARCELONA NEED TO SHUT UP AND BUY THE PLAYER.

24 Aug 2010 16:37:34

Is this the real deal for a sale. .why would harris risk his rep as a deal maker announcing due dilligence has taken place. .? Broughton will have his guts for garters if he has broken any NDA. .

this is how it works

Ok, the way it works when something like LFC is up for sale is that the agent (Barcap) create a Data Room, which provides outline information sufficient for a potential purchaser to make a bid. Then, to make sure that they're not taking the pee and just wasting everyone's time, the Vendor askes for proof of funds sufficient to meet the bid.

If that's OK, they then are allowed to inspect the books in more detail e.g. Due Diligence, after which they can refine the offer a little, based upon what they found. .I think this is the stage we're at if Harris is telling the truth. The bidder will make a firm bid after he's viewed the books.

24 Aug 2010 16:33:52
If there really is a press conference on friday, (and taking into consideration the latest takeover "news, ") it would tie in nicely with Keith Harris' comments about a time frame, not exactly mind you, but very close.

"Look at when Chelsea was sold in 2003. My firm was advising the club and we only knew of Roman Abramovich on the Thursday before the deal was completed the following Tuesday."

Probably me being overly optimistic though. sigh.
Fingers crossed.

Being a British born Arab, i have many contacts and links throughout the Emirates, word is in Abu Dhabi, that indeed DIC are to take over Liverpool within the next 6 weeks. Unfortunately, its abit late for Liverpool for transfer funding but do expect some decent signings in January.

Sheikh Mohammed is renown for his ego and let me assure those who may not know much about him, he doesn't take kindly to being second, third or even fourth best.

Sheikh Mansoor at Man City is gonna have some big problems.

To the everton or Manx that wrote this
I think the time has come for ALL Liverpool supporters to realise that we are now a very ordinary team. As a lifelong LFC supporter it pains me to say this, and hurts even more to admit to myself that it is true. Most fans are still living in the past, and the fact 'we are Liverpool' means nothing. Let's face it, if the team was playing well enough to be with the big boys again, do you think we would have RH as manager. Nobody knows the real reason for his appointment,
Can I ask you one thing, apart for Rooney and Evra and maybe Vilic who else would you have off the Utd squad, Not one I say, not one, and yet they believe that they have a right to win the premership. You can loose to all the other top 4 twice & still win it, what you can't do is loose against the Wigans & Portsmouth's something we've failed to do under Benitez. The Mancs have belief & that's what wins for them. They rarely draw matches & flatten those small teams. Wolves didn't bother turning up against them last year. That's what we have to achieve!

nani over kuyt
hernandez over ngog

When i come on here and i see the negativity of some of you lads, it makes me laugh. .
clowns saying that spurs are a better team and that 7 or so players would walk onto the liverpool team. . ? ? id take bale.thats it. .bale made every attacking movement in the first spurs game and scored two on the weekend. .(well one and a bizzare deflection), other than that the rest of spurs players were bad. . .look we have a new manager, some new players and new tactic's, new doctors, physios etc. any of you that thought we would take the league by storm this year are dilusional. two games in and our own fans are slating our team.rafa benitez had years to get that team to utd or citys chelseas level. .give roy a chance. let him blood some youth into the team. .i was delighted last night that he put pacheco on. .it put a little smile on my all so gloomy face. . il take a defeat to city and another few to some other big teams that are, lets face it now at our level if we go and beat stoke and wigan and the likes home & away this season. .it will balance out. .we beat them and get some results against spurs, city, utd, chelsea and arsenal well then suddenly guess were we will be? ?back in the top 4 and back in the champions league. . we are liverpool fans, when times are tough we stick by our team. .thats the way its always been. so look beyond the scorline and look at the small few positives that came from the game. . pacheco got on and stevie has his drive back again. .

D.I.C has not been mentioned in the press but just on rumour sites so keith harris could still be representing them which i hope he is! ! ! ! ! ! !"

I'm sorry, but i'm assuming you haven't been following the news recently? DIC have been mentioned in numerous reports i've read and i sincerely hope they are not back in for us given their debt problems or we might find our new ground is a glorified Travelodge! They are an investment organisation, meaning they usually expect a return on investments and are currently selling off assets due to the squeeze several lenders are having on them. It'd be out of the frying pan and into the fire much like it would've been with Huang.

Well No Mr Ed they wouldn't, Nani wouldn't get in most prem teams. Scoles maybe, but we have people on here saying Carra is too old. Overall they are an extremely ordinary squad for Utd standards yet it doesn't stop them having that winners arrogance about them.
{Editor's note - If Nani continues on his improvement from last year and shows consistency the only teams I think he would struggle to start in would be Tottenham and Chelsea and he is a better right winger so he probably would get in those teams. Also Scholes has been playing amazing the past few games and is much better than Lucas}

24 Aug 2010 15:28:05
I doubt anybody knows who this bid is coming in from as keith harris has stated that if his name becomes public before the deal is complete then it won't be completeed at all, so if there is anybody who thinks they may know who it is maybe they should just keep quiet about it until the deal is done lol

Did a little assessment of our team relative to Tottenham, the weakest of the top 5.Here goes:

Gomes VS Pepe
-we edge this one.No need to even go to the "why" details.

King and Dawson VS Carra and Agger
-there's no arguing the fact that Carra was top drawer in his heyday. But now he's seen better days.Slow, not commanding enough in set pieces, and cannot play the ball (it's hoof, hoof, hoof).
Agger, while being composed on-and can-play the ball, he just ain't that good and reliable a centre half. His positional radar, tracking, tackling and heading. .just not up to standard.
Conversely, King and Dawson have a physical presence, are quick, have excellent positional sense, are aerially dominant, and can score(Carra does score himself, but at the wrong end of the pitch).

Corluka VS Glen
-while both aren't exactly awe-inspiring defenders, Corluka defends better than Glen, only Glen's superior offensively. But since football is more about winning rather than not losing, and the fact that you need at least one goal to win a football match, I'd take Glen.Glen will give you pace, skill and will create and score goals, which-if more than the opposition's-is enough.

Ekotto VS Aurelio
-Ekotto's an average player at best, but I'd still take him over Fabio. Why?Four things:he's consistently fit, is quick, can defend and attack very well.Fabio, as not bad a player as he is, is defensively suspect.Poor positioning, slow, can't tackle and is crocked.

Bale VS Jovanovic/ Babel
-need I even start?Young Bale's got skill, pace, power, good eye for goal, can dribble past his man as though he were cone. He's got an end product.
Babel. .Jovanovic?Lol!Hope that says it all.

Bentley VS Kuyt/ Maxi
-none of the above gentlmen are starters, but I'd take Bentley anyway. That simply because he can trap the ball without making a mess of it, and can consistently deliver a cross, something I cannot say for Kuyt/ Maxi.

Huddlestone VS Lucas
-Huddlestone's my man.The chap holds the football very well, has an excellent distribution, and knows where the goals are and how to find them.
Lucas is. .well, Lucas. Can't hold;less than impressive, if any, forward movement, poor distribution;couldn't head to save his life. It's all good and well breaking up play and stuff, but I expect my players to be more than just brainless donkey's, or make that mule.

Palacios/ Gio VS Gerrard
-now, even the most staunchest Spur will be hard-pressed to come up even with one good reason as to why Stevie wouldn't edge this one.

Modric VS Cole
-Cole's an intelligent, skillful and agile player with terrific vision and excellent passing. However, he's never been tested in this position, so I'll take a punt on Modric.
The Croat's got skill, frighteningly quick, has superb on-and-off-the ball movement;has impressive vision, dribbles past players;creates and scores.Top player.

Defoe VS Torres
-this is also a no-brainer.Fernando rules. But Defoe's a terrific finisher, has super quick feet, dexterity and awesome movement. He's a player I'd love to have back-up to Nando, than Ngog or any of the other strikers we've been linked with.
Ngog couldn't trap a bag of sand for the life his (though he'll learn with time).

So, in light of the above, seven Spurs players would walk into our team, compared to our four to them. And they are:
-King and Dawson for Carra and Agger
-Ekotto for Aurelio
-Bale for Jovanovic/ Babel
-Bentley for Kuyt/ Maxi
-Huddlestone for Lucas
-Modric for Cole
Conversely:
-Torres for Defoe
-Pepe for Gomez
-Gerrard for Palacious
-Glen for Corluka

And, fellas, this is only Spurs.Imagine how we compare with the Chavs, Manure and City.Just dreadful.
Those Spurs players aren't exactly world class, but they are still better than most of what we have.Without Nando, Pepe and Stevie, we truly are an AVERAGE side. Our rivals have more than three players to rely on.

Ideally, I'd to see the following players at LFC:
-Gary Cahill
-Aly Cissokho
-Alexis Sanchez
-Eljero Elia
-Lucas Podolski

Our first XI would be like this:
GK:Pepe

CB:Cahill
CB:Agger

RB:Glen
LB:Cissokho

CM:Gerrard
CM:Poulsen

RW:Sanchez
LW:Elia

HOLE:Cole
FW:Torres

What do you think, Ed?Was I a tad too harsh on our boys? Also, what do you make of my XI.

THE SWEET SILVER SONG OF A LARK
{Editor's note - I agreed with all, though I am not sure between Glen and the tottenham Rb}, Glen would we a better winger}

If Barca are interested in Monster Mach then why don't we ask for Hleb and Jonathan Soriano and maybe Abidal this would solve our AM, ST and LB problem
This would be a good deal for both parties, Hleb and Soriano are not wanted by Barca and if Abidal is not availabe then they could add a littel money.
What do you think ED? {editor's note - I am not a fan of Abidal, I don't rate him at all, I would prefer to see Mavinga given a shot at left back. Hleb is injury prone, no thank you and I haven't seen much of Soriano to judge him.}

ED
Soriano is 24 years old and had Played 37 games for Barca and has scored 23 goals, he has also played at U21 level where he played 4 games and scored 8 goals.
Go to youtube and look at:

Jonathan Soriano new Wisla Krakow striker. Barça Atlètic 2:0 Real Jaén

I don't think you read my post properly, because it clearly states that I am, and always have been an LFC supporter. I am also a realist. How many seasons has it been since you were confident that Liverpool would beat so called inferior teams. Too often now it doesn't matter who they play I for one can never say with confidence we will win. Let's face it, we are already 5 points behind the top teams, after 2 games. It doesn't look good. What will happen if we beat West Brom on Sunday. Supporters will go overboard saying what a great side we are, because that is how nervous we are whoever we play. Also remember it took United 27 years to win the league, and I feel we are still way of the pace after 20 years without winning it.

Also Scholes as well would probably get in the Liverpool side}

I don't know what other liverpool fans are thinking but after last nights awful performance i think rh should be looking to sell torres to anyone other than an english club.

Why Would you sell torres he is one of the best stricker in the world and when he is fit he shows why

I don't know what other liverpool fans are thinking but after last nights awful performance i think rh should be looking to sell torres to anyone other than an english club, he should also get rid of masch as he aint interested, jovanovic is clearly a striker not a left winger and get rid of lucas as well and mby ngog. These would raise the funds to strengthen midfield, defence and a torres sale would bring funds for another big name striker maybe 2 a big name and a lesser known. the 1 or 2 strikers brought in should be in form and match fit. torres looks like he doesn't care about the club anymore either that or he just can't get fit enough for premiership.

Been following this site religiously for a few years now, laughing at everyones Championship Manager Wish/ Rumours but have never posted until i wasted 2 hours of my life last night watching the City game.
Just my view. . .
Why don't we bring in Kelly or buy a right back and play Johnson on the right wing? We've all seen how good he is in the final third, taking on defenders and crossing. Kuyt works hard but is more suited to Ultra-marathon running than football. He was scoring for fun in Dutch League, which beggars the question did Benitez really mess his head up OR is the Dutch league so easy and in that case should we really be looking at other strikers from their?

24 Aug 2010 14:07:25

How many of our side would have made it into City's starting line up last night? Torres and Gerrard maybe. Er. . that's it. We are so far from where we need to be. Ngog looked out of his depth, the entire back 4 were poor. Kuyt just doesn't have the quality required, Lucas - what does he do for a living cos it sure isn't football?

I am seriously concerned we are in big trouble - we could find ourselves in a relegation battle - and if we get to Jan like this Gerrard and Torres will be off like a shot.

I cannot remember watching us so comprehensively outplayed for 90minutes. Even in some of the worst performances last season.

We need to accept no money is coming in this transfer window so we have to make do with what we have and hope we can pick up a few good results at home before Jan, persuade the big guns to stay and hopefully invest in the squad then.

I think we are probably going out of Europe on Thursday too.

Rarely have i been this depressed about LFC at the start of a season.

Re:-Does anyone else its time to play skrtel and agger in centre defence instead of carra.

In all honesty, yes. Jamie has been a fantastic servant to the club, and does have loads still to offer, however as a CH, he's beaten in the air most times, and out-paced most times. The only battle he's likely to win is timing of tackles. As a radical idea, try him as a defensive midfielder, (not in the high energy masch mould), but more like Dider Dechamps / Makelele reading of the game and simple passing mould.

Someone mentioned before about playing him at fullback and I agree, he may be more effective there for a season as there is less space to be exposed in.

Let me also add, Cara isn't the only one at fault here, Glen Johnson is shocking! ! ! I think the time has come to move him, (I would say sell him, but no-one would be stupid enough to pay money and wages expected), to right wing and play Kelly at RB, at least Kelly can defend.

We have a massive pace deficiency in attack, lots of "guile" players, but no raw pace. and last thing on the soapbox - no player upfront to "make it stick". Everytime last night the ball went up and came straight back.

I would like to lay into Mascherano - but wonder if it's a deeper issue?
I want to slam him for his ridiculous antics - but is this really his fault?
I would like to blast him for behaving like a petulant child - but what's the point.

* We need to offload him.
* We want around £25 million give or a take a few bob.
* He is behving in a manner that shames and embarrases a schoolboy.
* His pitiful bleatings are shameful and almost, almost laughable.
* His gall and sheer arrogance is amazing.

BUT . . this is football's fault; the fault of weak managers and the Cadre of Criminal Clowns (the FA) who are weak, lazy and too scared to tackle these sorts of issues.

I wrote yesterday about Ferguosn refusing to obey the FA edict and speak to the media - he will just let the club pay the fine.
I wrote about Hernandez's display of religious fervour in the centre circle before the game - an act banned by the FIFA/ EUFA edict of 2009.
Both these acts go unpunished as the Cadre are too scared to do anything about them.

Mascherano: the more I listen to Roy Hodgson, the more I like his style. But he needs to adopt a manner that Wenger and Arsenal did so well with Barcelona recently.
If they want the player - it's £25 million.
No deals.
No lower offers.
No haggling.
Not willing to pay - then leave us alone.

The player refuses to play - fine.
Into the Reserves.
Fined the ludicrous maximum of two weeks wages.
Play for the Reserves or don't get paid.
(Try going on strike at your workplace and see how long you last . .)

When Gordon Taylor of the PFA comes calling - tell him to get lost and talk to the player.

When Barcelona try it again, report them to . . NO!
Forget that - tapping up seems to be legal and FIFA are as gutless and toothless dealing with the likes of Barca and Real Madrid as the Cadre of Criminal Clowns are with Ferguson!

At some stage in football's path to ruin, one manager WILL stamp down hard and make a player 'rot' in the Reserves.
One manager WILL say what we all feel and slap down the player.

Who will suffer?
Mascherano.
His value will decline and although it will affect the club's selling price, he could be made to languish and miss most of the season not playing.
How will that affect his playing, his international prospects and his attitude?

DO NOT reply to this post with the usual "we can't do that, " or "it will never work!"
If we take that attitude, it will never work.

When Mascherano wanted £XXXXX thousands per week we negotiated.
We haggled and agreed - that's the word . . AGREED - a new contract.
He was NOT forced to sign it.
He wanted the money and signed.
His agent took a large cut.
His agent was paid.

Mascherano is smaller than the club and smaller in his attitude than most of the professional players in the UK.
Let him drop to the Reserves.

I for one will be staggered and utterly disgusted if he gets his way.

I AND MY MATES SUPPORT THE CLUB AND PAY TO GO TO GAMES - THE MANAGEMENT/ BOARD MUST RECOGNISE THIS AND ACT ACCORDINGLY!

24 Aug 2010 13:59:24
I think last night's game brought the harsh reality of our situation. We are the mighty reds but we're a bit short of might at the moment. There's going to be no billionaire taking over from Tweedledum and Tweedledummer; there will be no last minute 'marquee' signing (Joe Cole was the big one this summer); and unfortunately we are a team who look like fourth place finishers AT BEST.
It took the world cup to expose England for what they are (approx 12th in the world) and last night did the same for LFC.
I'll forever love Liverpool but have to admit that at the moment we have a pretty average team with an average manager and is largely made up of average players (Lucas, Ngog, Poulson, Aurelio, etc) and those whos minds lay elsewhere (Masch, Kuyt). Stevie and Carra have older legs now too.
BUT support them we must and get behind them we will through thick and thin. It still pains me that in 4 years we have gone from European champions and league contenders to battling 3rd place Turkish teams to qualify for the Europa league.

Mascherano should be fined 6 weeks wages for refusing to play. He is still a Liverpool player and so should have played, so much for a 'professional footballer' Barca are losing a lot of respect from a lot of people, making stupid bids for players which teams won't accept but knowing it will cause desruption. Liverpool need to hold firm like Arsenal did with Fabregas. If we don't sell, Let the baby sulk in the reserves if he don't get his way.

Stevie g was awful & AWOL most of the game from CM, which doesn't help when you got yaya, barry and de jong. he had a terrible game and as one of the editiors pointed out has become v lazy having played in the advanced role for a couple of years, not really tracking back. poor by his own high standards.
This above comment & the "leave Lucas alone" comments are what's wrong with liverpool at the moment. We have dropped the quality of our supporter as well as the quality of our team. If you really feel that Lucas is good enough for your team then you are supporting the wrong team.

well said mate u are spot on

ED what are you think about hatem ben arfa we need to pay him only 6m that is low for him. .i think he will be good addition and we must get cm and striker if we sell mache we can bring aguero that will be good. . and debuchy is good player he has creativity and he can play cm or dm bring that all roy

Rooney and milner cut it in the prem at the age of 16 why can't sterling? his pace and skill levels r frightenin give him a chance. what do u think ed?
{Editor's note - I have never seen Sterling play because I am not the Ed that supports Liverpool}

AN Apology to Mr Hodgeson.

As much as I hate the fact that Benitez was aloud to go, we have to get behind Hodgeson. I think he is a good manager who will do well. In the cold light of day, we have to accept that we are no longer a top four team, we are a top six team but with a couple of good signings we can turn things around.

Its a shame about Mash but imagine if stevie and nando had gone? we would be up s* t creek without a paddle. History shows that Liverpool fans are some of the best in the world and having stability on that level is a massive asset. I think we have been hard done by with the fixtures again but from now on, I'm behind Roy 100% - until the end of the season at least, and I hope everyone gets behind him too, In my eyes, that's what sets us apart from other clubs - loyalty and knowledge. If chelsea aren't winning at half time, the fans boo, If Madrid don't win the league the manager is sacked! and sometimes when they win the league he is sacked! This is not the Liverpool way.

I wasn't sure about his appointment to begin with and I don't know any reds who actually wanted him, but having said that, the man won the manager of the year last year voted by his peers. Come on Liverpool, we will be back soon enough. With new owners, a new stadium - along with the revenue that that brings - we will be back at the top in a couple of years.

Having watched the match last night and been a fervent
loyal red of 24 years and counting, i wish to make the
following comment.
1) Carra - absolute legend but hes getting slow, wouldn't mind Matthew Upson coming in. I am not saying get rid of Carra, just saying bring him off bench if needs be.
2) Some people might get p* *ed of when i say this, but is Daniel Agger really that good, was caught for pace too many times , i don't rate hime as a centre back either, too weak and injury prone. Solution, put him in CDM role instead of Lucas.
3) Playing 4-4-2 showed our complete lack of width, would love to see Ashley Young and Jovanovic as our proper wide men.
4) The need for a big man up front to act as Torres Foil, Ngog is on form. but to be fair their game is too alike, hence Toivoinen (spelling?) seems like a good buy or maybe a Carlton Cole
5) Why have a left back Aurelio on the bench? if hes not quick enough, no more than Agger, then sign a left back.

So Ed what do you think? as i said i love Carra to bits andhe is a legend but reality is hitting and he is getting slower. What would you make of this tem

25. Reina

2. Johnson

37. Skertel
23. Carragher / Upson

3. Salcido

14 Jovanovic

8. Gerrard
5 Agger

10. Joe Cole / 7. A Young

9. Torres
11 Toivenen (spelling)?

The signing of Young is wishful thinking on my behalf but besides that what do you think?
{Editor's note - That would be a good team :)}

Nobody knows the real reason for his appointment, just like no one (outside of the chosen few) knows anything about what is going on in terms of the take over, transfers etc.

The continual silence & even refusal of the hierarchy to give any indication of what is happening is an insult to us all. It's fine saying we are doing it the Liverpool way, but in view of all the speculation, the club could comment sensibly without giving away the actual details of who any potential buyers could be.

Nevertheless, by lowering our unreasonable expections, and accepting that Liverpool will probably finish in a lower position than last season, the disappointment will not be as hard to accept.

We were great 20 years ago, but look at the likes of Bolton, Blackpool etc., they were also great in times gone by.

24 Aug 2010 13:06:42
I think there is a consensus that in order to move forward under the new regime under Woy we need to get rid of the players that are holding back a potentially very exciting team.

Everyone saw last night that against the most expensive opposition, some of our players were off the pace The ball takes too long to get up the pitch and momentum is lost when the team is attacking.

I agree we should sell Lucas, sell Kuyt to Rafa, replace him with a real winger, and get a recognised left back immediately. I'm also not too sure about Skrtels temparement in and around the box. So it may be a good idea to get a new centre back too.

Once we have these in place then I am sure we will see a major difference.
On a different note, does anyone think that it was a little bit naive to play two both Ngog and Torres against Citeh last night?

24 Aug 2010 12:48:21
If Barca get Masch and they cannot cough up the £25mill asking price these are the players I would want in compensation - Martín Cáceres, Gai Assulin + £12mill

A fair trade me thinks and helps with our problem left flank as Cáceres can play LB

24 Aug 2010 12:45:00
A few comments regarding last night. We started well and I was optimistic. 3-0 suggets Man City were much better but i don't feel that that was the case. Infact it seems to me that they were a little fortunate and we didn't have a fortune on our side. That said, Roy should have changed the formation when the second goal went in. We were a bit overrun in the middle and needed another in there. Lucas had too much to do. The changes that were made were too late to make a difference. I would have liked to see Pacheco earlier. Also, I am not convinced that Ngog and Torres play together as well as they should. I can't see Ngog creating a chance for Torres so don't see why we would play both of them. Can anyone remember them working together? We also seemed subdued. Also, we seem slow going forward. The good news is that at least we all know now that there is a lot to do.

Be positive.

An observation. How many times does Lucas give free kicks away just outside the box and how many times does Johnson lose possession and fail to defend. How many times does Torres try to take the whole defence on then fall over and sulk for the next half an hour. How many times do our central defenders get out muscled and are no threat at all in the air. The only player who gives his all is Gerard and god help us when he's gone.

Fast tracking raheem sterling. .fatastic kid but cud u imagine micah l***** bullying him? come on hes 15. what ya gonna do next fast track ***********. I actually thought kuyt did ok last night other than the track back for the first goal , highlighted by andy (king peanut) gray. that guy has a head on par with David Platt. if they ever did a stage version of hr puffinstuff these 2 and steve bruce would have a busy summer season. does anyone know any sports books worth reading. its rainin an im bored. And now for something different. The issues surrounding Mascherano's non-appearance last night could give some indication about what is wrong with the Premiership and some players today. Players are controlled in almost everything they do by their Agents and its highly unlikely that ANY action by ANY player is done without the full backing, support or encouragement from their Agent. These same agents tout their players around every transfer window which destabilises clubs and supporters. The clubs have to pay Agents fees whilst players sit back and enjoy even larger pay packets and benefits. The clubs continue to pay Agents fees long after the initial transaction with bonus, appearance and achievement incentives. I don't think we will ever see a salary cap but there is another way to slow the massive wage increases down. Is it time to call a halt to the way Agents are paid and say from 1st September 2015 (no contract in place today will surely be valid after that date) ALL Agents fees MUST be paid by the Player? After all they are the beneficiaries from having Agents involved in transfer arrangements.

We shud sign gael clichy, keiron gibbs or armard traore as surely arsenal don't nedd all three - quality and proven left backs.
{Editor's note - Would Arsenal sell to Liverpool though. Especially as all of them are young and all brilliant talents}

24 Aug 2010 12:09:20
Looking at last nights game, i am very dissapointed that roy never played poulsen. Lucas looked lost as usual and just a lack of pace through out the hole team. think we desperatley need salcido being brought in (2-3 mil) and swp (8-9) santa cruz and trezaguet (sp) loan. masc and insua to go and i think we may be getting debuchy

25 man squad will look somethin like this
1. Jones (HG)
2. Johnson (HG)
3. Salcido
4. Debuchy
5. Agger
6. Aurelio
7. Santa Cruz
8. Gerrard (HG)
9. Torres
10. Cole (HG)
11. Trezeuget
12. Pacheco (HG)
13. Jovanavic
14. Kyrgiakos
15. Rodriguez
16. Kuyt
17. Babel
18. Lucas
19. Wilson (HG)
20. Carragher(HG)
21. Ngog
22. Reina
23. Poulsen
24. Wright-Phillips (HG)
25. Shelvey (HG)

Our squad will look somthing like this we have 8 home grown players and a strong enough squad to compete until the takeover happens

Its darkest just before the dawn ? ?. . . . . . . each night before you go to bed my baby. .is this mama cass or ****ky **dd**? ?anyway i digress. when that young lad was on his own in the tunnel last night , then torres gerrard and carra came up and stood hand on hips. .they looked like the **ss*** expendables. the hairs on my neck stood up . all looked well for 12 minutes. . when stevie g could have made it 2-1 .was similar to when england could have made it 2-2 against the germans. be honest we'd have still got beat, we were off the pace.Ian Curtis lookaliike Johnson looked very good for them.Even Micah with an **** like the woman on the chair off tom an jerry, gave us the push around. As regards to the chinese woman, i also noticed two arab men in suits sat next to each other with a ***bl* sat to their left ? Bad performance but hopefully a kick up the ***gh, lets get behind the manager. .he'll buy who he can with what he's got. S*F

So now I just want to know where are all those KUYT lovers who were saying we were wrong for wanting rid of him?

Heres one, and Kuyt did have a bad game last night but if your right and believe we should sell him because he had a bad game then what about Torres? Johnson? Agger? in fact by your rediculous theory we should sell the whole team because let's face it none of them played well, but at least it gave the haters like you the chance to come out and attack someone you dislike!

Also Kuyt is NOT a winger, he should have played behind Torres. I believe unless Roy is prepared to play him in his proper position then he should sell and bring in a proper winger to give us some width but to single out this one player who was out of position is wrong! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Roy hodgson is considerin fast trackin raheem sterling straight into the 1st team squad from the academy, gd move in my opinion the lad is class! much neeeded pace from the flanks which we r so blatantly missin

24 Aug 2010 11:42:01
I hate it when people point to a single person for the defeat. hey this is a team game alright, every takes their fair share of the blame. if you ask me the larger share of the blame goes to none other than roy hodgson. why 442? a 4231 would have made a lot of sense, es pecially when they have 3 holding mids we should have at least 2. lucas wasn't poor, lucas lost the midfield battle because he wasn't able to take on a 3 men midfield. also the left back problem was evident but rmb that agger is only a temp solution.

(Ed please please print this i'm starting to think your a media part of or been payed off by the new owners as you never print anything)I'm sorry Liverpool fans but

Rumour has it. . .

1.The the Club was sold ages ago. (infact reclaimed by the bank)
2.H&G only still around for financial reasons and so as to make the club still look in there hands to continue the illusion
3.That rafa was got rid off and silenced with a 6mil payoff(strange for a club in dept to waste this 6 mil) because he would of informed the fans of what was really going on and wanted to leave as he knew the next point.
4. Replaced with a yes man who would keep quite hence replaced by Woy and not a high profile manager
4.The new owner(s) are far worse that H & G who at least invested something these new are guys are only interested in getting there money back
5.Purslow and Broughton where brought in to get as much money as possible from the squad and this is how they are doing
i) Tried to sell gerrard to R Madrid but the fee they were offered was not worth the potential financial backlash
ii) selling MAsch asap for quick cash plus he wanted to leave anyway and replaced with a cheap player poulson. .

Mathieu Debuchy I think he will be good in middfield what do you think ED about him.?
I heard he has creativity and he is strong and tall

{Editor's Note: I have seen Mathieu Debuchy play a couple of times in France and he seems a pretty good player. Again, I would question whether we are setting our sights just a little low. I am not saying go out and spend £20M on a big name player - but it is hard to see that there is much unknown about Debuchy - so it would do a good job - more of a squad player perhaps and I don't think we are short in that area.}

Talso will everyone get off lucas's back FFS! the guy has done nothing wrong, did his job well enough and all those idiots who think mascher would have done a better job are wrong as it wasn't his fault that he was up against THREE midfielders! that's the managers fault! lucas is more of a stevie g type of player but is one of those guys who is willing to whatever the team needs and for that he gets hammered. how's about laying off him for a change an see the difference. .

stevie g was awful & AWOL most of the game from CM, which doesn't help when you got yaya, barry and de jong. he had a terrible game and as one of the editiors pointed out has become v lazy having played in the advanced role for a couple of years, not really tracking back. poor by his own high standards.
to the poster who wrote this mate wot planet do live on stevie g was the only player who try'd out there last night he got on the ball and try to play but when your the only player on your team with a football brain kuyt ngog lucas carra jonavic and worst of all johnson all playin wit there heads up there arse and you have a go at stevie g mate give it a rest

iii) they know that aqua man will be at least a 30 mil player once he's fit and given a run in the team so has been loaned out so they can sell and get this money later (under the radar as everyone was too worried about gerrard and torres noone has raised an eyebrow at a quality player like this being "loaned out" Hmmm. he was replaced by the free signing of J cole (and before you mention wages J cole + Poulsons wages combined are in fact less than Masch and Aqua mans combined)
iv) any other players they receive decent bids for will be sold and replaced by cheaper versions
v) Torres wasn't sold as they make alot of money out of him from shirt sales plus possible low season ticket sales if they did. plus after bad world cup, his injury, Barcelona saying they have no money, Real not wanting (or torres refusing to go there) it makes more sense for them to sell him for a decent price next summer when they WILL sell him (yet will claim its the players wish after an even worse league run)
vi) All the takeover type rumours and storys have been created by the owners to improve fans morals so as to generate merchandising sales and season ticket sales. . just plain marketing. .

I'm sorry but unless some sugar daddy comes in quick

or even more unlikely the fans get together and start demanding the truth by the only language these people understand (strangling their finance's by vetoing all game's and all club marketing, Shirts etc)
Then our great club is going to be run into the ground. .
But alas this is going to happen anyway because me telling you this is because i have grown to love Liverpool fc the fans and the city
But to other's (the destroyers of the club) this is business and worth millions so many millions that they spend 6mil on keeping your ex manager quite so will easily spend whatever it takes through media to brainwash you all to the contrary. .
In fact i doubt this will get printed as this site is probably part of the problem. . But who knows i live in hope and try to see the goodness in people rather than corruption everywhere hence the reason i've attempted through this great site. .

Anyway chin up fellow fans. . pretty much the same will happen to Manu soon enough.

In Reply to:

Dose anyone els think that with the current LB problem Roy should play Carrager as LB as he can play anywhere along the back line, and play Agger as a CB?

Liverpool lack pace at the back, putting JC at left back would still leave us with a problem every time we face a bit of pace like we did last night. Carragher is great defender but if we continue to use him then are other defenders, certainly are full backs, need to be pacey. Insua's biggest problem last year was his lack of pace. If u look at united, there centre backs (ferdinand & Vidic) are not fast but they have evra at left back who can come across to make a tackle or at least force players wide & hold play up due to his pace.

Also liverpool lack pace on the wings which makes playing a 4-4-2 impossible.

Hi Ed. . .
I wanted to post something yesterday after the match but was just too depressed and upset. . But now i've gotten over it and thought things through a bit and i'm thinking clearer. .
So now I just want to know where are all those KUYT lovers who were saying we were wrong for wanting rid of him? This is not a rant or mindless abuse, this is reality! The rumour is Inter are offering 15m for him, so in what world or universe is that not a great offer? He offered NOTHING last night. He was not a threat at all and its becoming clear tha he only looks good when the whole team is already playing well, which is not good enough cos we need pplayers who will make the team play well. .

Seriously Ed. . I think I love Uncle Roy and I think I trust him with our beloved club. . However there is a real chance that i may really end up resenting him if he turns down 15m for KUYT. . Just imagine what that 15m could do. . We could buy a proper winger. .Arda Turan. anyone. . .

. . The only thing i could think of as to why he won't sell let KUYT go must be if he doesn't trust himself to buy well. . that, or he doesn't believe he'll get all the funds to buy someone else. .and if this is the case he needs to tell us all and stop protecting the two cowboys! !

. . .On a calming note. .Man City beat Arsenal 3-0 last season cos they under-estimated them too just like we did last night. . Hopefully we won't do that again! !

We've no take over coming were letting our better players go and keepin the s* te (kuyt and lucas) were been linked with hasbeen's and even they don't want sign for us but worst of all we look'd worse last night than at any time in the last two years and that's saying something the only player who gave a s* t last night was stevie g and roy look'd like a little lost puppy he do's know that he can make subs when the team is losing instead of waiting till 78 mins lets hope its darkest just before the dawn cos i just don't think i can take much

I'm a little amazed at how quick fans are to drop their heads and write off our chances. I think Hodgson went with the wrong formation, but bear in mind we have players who have no Prem experience still settling in and a star striker yet to regain full fitness - a defeat to a side that's spent £300m in recent times was always on the cards away from home. We spanked Utd by three at their ground and yet ultimately won nothing - the league and chase for silverware aren't won or lost with one big result. Personally i'd rather lose one game three nil than three games one nil and if we focus on getting maximum points at least from the sides that finished below us last year we should be on an even footing.

24 Aug 2010 10:41:07
"What we learnt from last night is that rafa was always criticized unfairly. You can be an excellent coach but without money you are doomed to failure. Arsene is one of the exceptions but even he spends more than you would think on "young players" and hasn't won a trophy in a while.
p.s why play 4-4-2? at least rafa wouldn't have embarrassed us like that"

What a load of carp. Rafa unfairly criticised? He had no money? Are you talking about Rafa Nadal, Rafa VDV or Rafa Marquez because Benitez had enough to spend but he was ***a** in the market. Arsene's net spend up until the end of 2008/ 09 was only around £3m and they are still consistently near the top. Hodgson's selection was and formation was very poor last night. Rafa was technically much better but not after he lost the dressing room in 2009/ 10 with the sale of Alonso. Torres thrives as a lone striker and Ngog cannot play in the hole. We got choked in midfield last night. I felt choked after the game.

24 Aug 2010 10:29:47

No speed on the flanks. Let Ngog go out on loan. Bring A Young from villa and Turan. Spend about £10 mill on striker. Bobs your uncle 3rd place won! !

24 Aug 2010 10:28:16

Right first things first. .
last night was not a thrashing as the score suggests and i for one certainly believe but for joe harts triple save we would have got something out of that game.

secondly their goals, as roy pointed out, all came at the 'right time', and to be fair to the boys they did ramp it up considerably when the 2nd went in and were unlucky not to get one back immediately. i think in the context of the game this was critical as i don't think they would have been able to cope.

however after reading all the comments this morning i feel people are over-reacting eg get rid of lucas, carra, ngog to name but a few!

personally i think the original problem lies with roy. .he took a gamble and went 4-4-2, which actually shows real intent. the problem was not the formation but the personnel.

ngog an torres was never gonna work and at the same time he wasn't about to drop ngog either to accomodate torres after last weeks good work - so he thought play em both to give city something to think about. and therein was the problem.

torres needs someone whos going to play him in, not someone whos going to try an play like him.

also will everyone get off lucas's back FFS! the guy has done nothing wrong, did his job well enough and all those idiots who think mascher would have done a better job are wrong as it wasn't his fault that he was up against THREE midfielders! that's the managers fault! lucas is more of a stevie g type of player but is one of those guys who is willing to whatever the team needs and for that he gets hammered. how's about laying off him for a change an see the difference. .

stevie g was awful & AWOL most of the game from CM, which doesn't help when you got yaya, barry and de jong. he had a terrible game and as one of the editiors pointed out has become v lazy having played in the advanced role for a couple of years, not really tracking back. poor by his own high standards.

jova wasn't tracking back enough to help agger an when he did you could see they weren't in sync. agger needed that support.

kuyt has been a very loyal player but i honestly think its time for a change. he wasn't at the races and kept coming short to get the ball but was gettin caught everytime.

all in all last nights game plan was wrong and one or two of the players were simply not on it. .thats all. on another day hart would not have saved those shots an we'd prob be sat here going 'good point' or 'good win'.

he should have gone with
reina
johnson, carra, skrtel, agger
lucas, poulsen
maxi, stevie, babel
torres

this foramtion would have nulified their midfield and ajohnson wunt have got a look in with poulsen/ lucas helpin agger out. and going forward stevie would have put de jong et co on the backfoot rather than them having time to get the ball, look up and pick a pass. it was far too easy for them.

sell kuyt to inter, mascher to barca

in terms of new players personally if we sell masch we should try an buy ayoung. an out an out winger in john barnes mould. an if swp is available at a reasonable price get him in too for the right. as for strikers will everyone please stop banging on about crouch. .when he plays he slows the game down and with no wingers bombin on its totally pointless.

i'd go for zamora, he's looked class these last few games and would certainly relish the chance (although the gentlemens agreement could be a problem)

if not get toivenen, huntelaar or even trezeguet.

if money no object, then gotta be aguero to play off torres.

left back. .calcido. good defender and great shot too.

my (realistic!) dream team would be:

reina
johnson, carra/ skrtel/ agger(2 of), aurelio/ calcido
poulsen
cole, stevie, ayoung
aguero, torres

keep the faith guys. .YNWA

Who agrees
Mascherano (treating us like rubbish) = 15m + bojan
Kuyt = 15m
Insua = 5m
=35m

Bojan p/ e
Ashely young 15m
Matt taylor 2m
L diarra 8m
Wickham 8m

Reina
Johnsen agger skrtl aurelio
Diarra
Gerrard cole
Bojan Torres Young

Subs - pacheco lucas poulsen carra babel taylor ngog jovanovic kelly wickham

Now surely that is reasonable
And very dangerous

"I'd love Ashley Young to come but I think he would be too expensive as he is english and plays for a rival team."

I never thought that day would ever come where I would hear that Villa are our rival. The sad thing is it's true. We can forget top 4 this season if we stick with Ngog, Lucas, Kuyt.

Ok with the departure of mascherano LFC need a replacement which comes in the form of Poulsen. However their are many CDM in the world that could be purchased.
Fernando Gago ( unlikely)
Lass Diara (possible if a move was made)
M.Diara ( " ")
Ever Banega

as for strikers TORRES is not fit Ngog is just lucky Pacheco should be given a bit more of a chance but i guess we havent played anyone that is not like arsenal or Man city ha . every LFC would love sergio aguero or diego forlan just to laugh at the manc's but options. . .

wolfswinkel ( great young star but we have pacheco, wolfswinkel played for holland under21 and pacheco played for spains)
D.trezeguet ( one of the best french strikers ever and obviously his age and class has declined but he knows his job and his role so to have his experince would be great.
Ola.Toivolinen (they won't sell him full stop. .)

the list could go on but less just hope we get a striker, mascherano puts his toys back into his pram. H&G go! lastly i saw that mysterious chinese lady next to Kenny.D yesterday i wouldn't read to much into it.

"I'm a bit surprised by last nights performance. Played 4-4-2. Citeh's 3 holding midfielders were always gonna over-run Leiva in the centre of the park and this in turn then stifled Gerrards performance.

I think Roy should of tried to match up a bit more. Stuck Lucas and Poulsen holding Gerrard just in front, then Jovanovich and Babel on the flanks for pace and torres up top."

My thoughts exactly! ! They had Barry, De Jong and Yaya running the midfield which meant Stevie had to sit deep most of the time as Lucas struggled. Credit to Citeh as they pressed hard. Ngog, Lucas, Kuyt n Masch have to go. Jova should be a squad player. We need 2 flying wingers, an experienced back up striker and a solid LB. We are 3 quality players short of being a great team.

Can someone answer me this; where has the money from Standered Chartered and Jack Wolfskin gone? Because with that and the transfer already put aside surely we should have had about £50m to spend. Or have the Yanks taken it for themselves? I'm sure that part of the agreement to these huge sponsorship deals was that Gerrard and Torres stay, and that the money was invested back into the squad, not to pay off loans!

24 Aug 2010 10:03:49
OUT:
Kyrgiakos-£1,000,000
Kuyt-£15,000,000
Mascherano-£21,000,000+Hleb
Spearing-£500,000
Itandje-£500,000
El Zhar-£1,000,000

IN:
Salcido-£3,000,000
SWP-£7,000,000
Toivonan-£9,000,000
LW-£10,000,000-15,000,000

Im not saying all these will happen, maybe 2 or three from each but after seeing the match last night i can see we have to do something and quick. whenever i see our squad it is filled with too many average players that can't challenge for the league! just compare our squad to United's, Chelsea's, Arsenal's, City's and even Spurs' we have a long way to go still and the faster the yanks get out, the faster we will back to our former best!

Personally, the one thing I learnt after last night's game is that I haven't fully recovered from last season's horror.
The past campaign we were so s* t so much so that I became immune to it, which explains why last night didn't throw me into a rage.Believe me, I LOVE this football clube, it's EVERYTHING to me.But after last season, s* t perfomances and s* t results is something I've become used to.Unlike anyone else, I haven't the "feel-good factor", and Mr Hodgson has done NOWT to change that.In fact, I've been less than impressed by some of his decisions.

Imo, our major flaws have been/ are the lack of:a quality, consistently fit left back, able back-up forward, and world class left and right wingers. And Mr Hodgson's done nowt to (properly) address this.Instead, he has:

-stuck with the eternally crocked Aurelio, whom there's no evidence to suggest he'll be fit for even 50% of the games.
-loaned out Aquilani, a young, technically gifted, excellent player perfectly suited for the second-striker role.
-deploys Cole, a 29 yr old world class but injury-prone footballer, in the hole-a role none of his managers at Chelsea played him in;a role the man himself has admitted he's still "got to learn".
-buys Poulsen, a 30 yr old defensive midfielder who was kept out of a lousy Juve team by a lousy player in Momo Sissoko, for in excess of £4m.
-plays, at Eastlands, a glaringly outdated and ineffective 442 formation when the team clearly does have the proper personnel for such a system.
-puts Agger in the uncomfortable position of stopping a clearly way too good Adam Johnson (and persists with it even when it's NOT working).

I could go on and on.I understand that a new manager ought to be given his just chance and be trusted to do the job.But Mr Hodgson's NOT given me one good reason why I should have faith in his leadership.Instead, he's made me fear the worst.

Gerrard, Cole and Torres remain our only sources of creativity, and should one, two or all three of them suffer the fates that they've encountered all too frequently the past coupla seasons (injuries, lack of fitness), I see NO reason why what happened the last season shouldn't occur again this year.

And against the top six sides, you can't help but feel that Mr Hodgson will invariably be outthought, outwitted and outsmarted. The man simply isn't a tactian, I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is.And I'm quite sure that Mr Hodgson WASN'T any Reds fan preferred man;Mr Hodgso knows it;the fans know it, and those who appointed him know it.
Under normal circumstances, Mr Hodgson WOULDN'T be here.

For Mr Hodgson, getting this job meant ONE thing and ONLY ONE thing ONLY:fulfilling a lifelong dream of managing a big club, one of Britain's most illustrious. That's it.For him, it's not about taking LFC back up where it belongs, or even going one better than Rafa last season.NO!
He's a smart man;he knows that that will take God knows how many years.
He knew that he would be LAMEDUCK, POWERLESS, and he's OKAY with it.Cause for him, the most importante thing is that he would have managed Liverpool Football Club.Trophies or no trophies;4th place or no 4th place, Mr Hodgson will walk out of Anfield a proud and happy man.

Whilst LFC fans' longing for glory stretches and runs deep as far as the Pacific, Mr Hodgson' has already been fulfilled. He is at LFC, anything above that will a bonus be.

The extremely limiting conditions at our club are more of a concern to us, the fans, who'll be here for the long term. For Mr Hodgson, this is no more serious than spilt milk.
When no other top managers (Gaal, Guus) would touch us with a barge pole, Mr Hodgso was more than willing to do so.Think about.

THE PERFECT STORM

i would recomend
for kuyt (10mil) - aguero (25-30mil)
mashc (25mil) - ever banega (15mil)
lucas (7mil) - any descent midfielder
rodreguiz (6mil) - either ashley young or aaron lennon or SWP or milner! !
plus 2 more player

* Milner? ? do you not follow football? did u watch last nights game?

Surely after last night it's obvious that a decent Lb and some wingers are far more important than a striker. Babel, N'gog, Kuyt and Jovanovic can all do a job up front if they get the service but there is absolutely no natural width in the team (apart from Johnson). City showed how important width is by tearing us apart with Milner and A. Johnson. After this rude awakening Roy might finally make a move for Turan. I'd love Ashley Young to come but I think he would be too expensive as he is english and plays for a rival team.

As for LB, Salcido would be a lot better than Agger at Lb for the timebeing and maybe next summer we could look for a long term replacement (I assume Roy doesn't have much faith in Aurelio-which begs the question: why did he re-sign him?).

My predictions:

Sell Masch for about 20-25 mill
Buy Turan for 12-15 mill
Buy Salcido for 2-4 mill

Liverpool were shockiong last night. Altough i think hodgson went with the right formation i think its time we sold kuyt whilst we can, and get two quick wingers with flair for either wing. adam johnson and milner were tearing our defence open, yet our wingers wernt able to get get past citys defence at all. if we were able to get around 30 mil for kuyt and macherano. i think we should try and go for 2 of the following. ashley young (18 mil), mata (16 mil), arda turan (10 mil), Alexis Sanchez (14 mil), Eljero Elia (11-13 mil), Giovani dos santos (9 mil), juan vargas (9-12 mil) pastore (15 mil), Eden Hazard (12 mil), Nzogbia (8 mil), Bojan (loan) or try part of the macha deal, Ronaldinho (10-15 mil), Donavon (8 mil), and to think ricardo quaresma went to besiktas for only 5 mil. . . . .

24 Aug 2010 09:47:40

Last night was a shambles, we were in the game for 5mins. Steve was playing far too deep, Lucas was poor to say the least, he made far to many mistakes. We had no midfield. Cole I think would have made a slight difference, as we have no other attacking playmaker. What can we do when there is no money to spend on players. Very frustrating situation for liverpool fc. Hope we all get the good news soon that our beloved club has been sold.

24 Aug 2010 09:33:11
"What did we learn from last night?"

What we learnt from last night is that rafa was always criticized unfairly. You can be an excellent coach but without money you are doomed to failure. Arsene is one of the exceptions but even he spends more than you would think on "young players" and hasn't won a trophy in a while.
p.s why play 4-4-2? at least rafa wouldn't have embarrassed us like that

24 Aug 2010 09:29:18
Comrades!

Dreadful. Simply dreadful. The team lacked heart and looked like it was simply going through the motions and didn't realy want to be there.

Ngog worked hard but was mainly playing wide right where Kuyt should have been but wasn't - in fact where was he?. Torres still looks unfit and possibly lacking in confidence. Gerrard - aprt from a couple of spurts in the second half was remarkably average. Lucas worked hard but achieved little. Jovanovic looked decidely average, certainly not a 'starting 11 player', Agger struggled, Skrtel was slow and clumsy, Johnson appeared in name only I think, Carra was below avergae, Reina was clearly frustrated and annoyed. Pacheco and Babel should probably have been on from the start instead of Kuyt and Ngog.

The boss looked mystified and cluless.

Just terrible and unacceptable. If we have ambitions of getting back to the top four then we should be nailing City for a point at their ground or we can forget it. Another 4 games or so like that this side of Xmas and we can forget top four and kiss goodbye to Gerrard and Torres.

They were just gobsmackingly bad and to put it in perspective City weren't that good and yet they deserved their 3-0 !

Judging by Liverpool's Performance Yesterday, Liverpool Need a Lot of Help!
Liverpool should get rid of Kuyt and Lucas first of all!
Drop N'gog and Jovanovic!
Sell Mascherano for a decent fee!

Now with that money we should get around £50Million
First of all a Good strong, QUICK, athletic left back. Agger is not bad there but hes much better at centre back.(Salcido, Taiwo, Cacares)
Then Get a new Holding midfeilder to Allow Gerrard to Play. ( Lass, M.Diarra, or even birng back sissoko)
Now TWO Out and Out Wingers. Wingers who can actually get past their marker with pace and some trickery. And can also get a few goals. (Ruiz, Toivenen, J. Navas, A.Young, SWP)
Finally a GOOD back up for Torres. Ngog is not bad but not good enough. Needs a lot of work. (Trezeguet, Huntelaar, Crouch, )

If we get the right Players, we might have a decent line up like this:
Reina
Johnson Carragher Agger Salcido
Lass Gerrard
A.Young J.Cole Ruiz
Torres {editor's note - why do we need a holding midfielder to allow Gerrard to play? Why can't he just stop strolling around when the opposition have the ball in our half and get the ball back himself? I lost count of the times he was stood watching as City attacked, he has got lazy and needs a good kick up the backside.}

I have read many comments about the game last night and as a Liverpool fan living in Manchester today is going to be a nightmare. Many of the posts put the blame with the usual suspects and in fairness they are probably correct. Until new owners are found we must all get behind the team, I for one truly believe that the good times are not too far away. It will take time for Roy to assemble a team he can call his own, there are too many players who should never have been signed - because they are not good enough and do not have the heart and passion to play for our great club. Keep the faith.
YNWA

24 Aug 2010 08:42:50
We are a bunch of small lightweights, Lucas can't tackle. We need some muscle in midfield and at the back.

24 Aug 2010 08:42:11
I'm a bit surprised by last nights performance. Played 4-4-2. Citeh's 3 holding midfielders were always gonna over-run Leiva in the centre of the park and this in turn then stifled Gerrards performance.

I think Roy should of tried to match up a bit more. Stuck Lucas and Poulsen holding Gerrard just in front, then Jovanovich and Babel on the flanks for pace and torres up top.

Bit late now of course, but we just wern't in the game at all. Surely 1 player leaving (Masch) can't disrupt the team to the point of the shambolic and directionless display last night?
Cut your losses, the longer Masch stays the longer it will have a negative impact on the team. 18 mill is not too bad for a player that fouls too much and has no offensive or creative ideas in his play afterall? ?

24 Aug 2010 08:37:17

Never will understand why we have let one of europes elite attacking mid fielders go and kept lucas.on form from last season aqua was well on his way to his best, and offererd something different for stevie g to work with.lucas has still to work well with stevie g and other teams rip us to pieces knowing this.he wasnt 18odmil for **** all.what a waste.thats my 2 cents from the west coast of aus.
heard a lil rumour masc + 10mill for zlatan.barca all out of cash, they took out a loan to pay there lads wages.

24 Aug 2010 08:28:10
This is a message for our yank owners, please please sell Liverpool fc, go for the sale of the club. We were poor tonight second to every ball and out played.

{Editor's Note: And the owners were to blame for this?.}

24 Aug 2010 08:27:39

Watching last night's game, I think that Torres and Stevie G will be heading out in Jan.
With Mash refusing to play, Roy should just sell him and use the money to buy a better back up striker.

The players we need to get rid of ( In my opinion ) Ngog, Lucas and Babel,
Ed, what's your thoughts

{Editor's Note: Changing half the team will not help.}

24 Aug 2010 08:10:04

I said 2 weeks ago that our defence was a joke and none of our back four would make it into any of the top 10 teams in world football and that was proven again last night!.i also said that jc was the main culprit and again last night he was rubbish.unless we change things very quickly we can wave goodbye to a champions league spot let alone having any sort of chance of winning the title.i would like a defence with a presence and an ore about them and that can really play with and for each other.does any 1 else beleive this.

24 Aug 2010 08:08:28
After last night permfornace the entire team should be put up for sale. Slow ponderous boring football with no spark or imagination. Only Stevie G looked like her could be bothered! Twinned with poor timing of subs by Woy we might as well have rafa back! !

Not a happy red!

24 Aug 2010 08:03:57

Does anyone else its time to play skrtel and agger in centre defence instead of carra. click believable if u agree and unbelievable if u disagree.

From what we have yes but I think it's even more obvious now that we need a really class centre back, left back centre mid and striker and/ or winger, whichever system you play. Of course all this will cost around 80-100m, so unless new owners come in, we will never be able to improve.

24 Aug 2010 07:57:29
Who was the Asian women sitting next to King Kenny last night. .?{Editor's Note: Probably part of a Chinese Consortium.}

24 Aug 2010 07:49:40

The Mascherano deal will be struck at 21 million pounds (without any player involved) on Thursday.

Expect deals for Toivonen (9 million in part payment) and N'zogbia (9 million) to be completed on the weekend.

A desperate attempt will also be made to get Lassana Diarra on loan from Madrid.

24 Aug 2010 07:40:59

Disapointing performance last night but did anyone notice Kenny Dalglish at the match? This maybe coincidence, and we think the Huang bid has evaporated, but there was a smart oriental lady sat on his left. Certainly not his missus and they seemed to be chatting a lot. Anyone know who she was and if she is connected to any of the bids?

{Editor's Note: Ian Ayre's wife apparently.}

24 Aug 2010 07:13:12

I think yesterday's match was a wake up call to everyone. I know its too early, but it was the ideal time to beat city. How ever the performance was mediocre to say the least. Lucas, and Ngog are those who won't even fit into a west ham or stoke first team. But here they are enjoying a luxurious life of playing for such a big club when they don deserve it. Ngog's touch is abysmal. He has no skill whatsoever, its an insult for torres to be playin upfront with him. Lucas can't pass the ball. It was so evident yesterday. And anyways who says am attacking these two for no reason are deluded and don understand that the club is in dire straits and need to somethin and fast. We had no style of play. Look at spurs. Thats where we stand. And if we ve to have any chance of qualifying 4th we need two top quality strikers. We need ruiz and toivonen. Sell kuyt , lucas, and masch. We don have any creativity in the side. Only stevie tried somethin but no one else were in the same wavelength. Glen johnson doesn know how to defend. Many of the counters that city made were cos of some stupid piece of play from glen, lucas and even jovanovic. Ed whats your thought. I know am being too critical but we need to address this quickly. We need a take over and almost immediately. Pls all you fans go to anfield and exhibit banners. Please let the management know that they are harming ve club. Pls ed. Post this. I wanna convey to all lfc fans here that THEY need to make things happen for the club

{Editor's Note: Not a great performance but we have to give Roy a little more time. If one or two players come in the strengthen the side that would be great - but the fear is further mediocre players simply replacing other mediocre players - if that is the case we should be using the younger players more.}

24 Aug 2010 06:44:40
The great Rafa is willing to squander 15mil of milans money on Kuyt. If you want to know what's wrong at LFC there's you answer. And the thick, dumb, mumhskull idiots still chanting his name are also responsible for the clubs decline. What Roy could do with 30mill.

We had a fantastic team with a midfield to be pround of 2008, alonso gerrard and masch, havnt heard the song weve got the best midfield in the world, 4 a long time, rafa with his supreme man management skills managed to p*ss xabi of, and now are little argie has thrown teddy out of pram , and just to add insult to this , roy manages to f*ck aqualani off to juve, leaving us with the class of lucas and poulsen, torres and gerrard must be well chuffed seeing quality leaving and nothing coming back in j, cole being the only player we have signed really what might have got into 2008 team, aqualani should have been used in the hole and ngog should have dropped to the bench leaving torres up the top on his own, we would have kept the ball alot more , the teams u can't go 442 against with this current squad away from home man, u arsenal, chelsea, man, c, tott, that was 1 thing rafa got right, dont mind 442 at home or against the rest of league, but not against the main contenders try and sneek a goal and don't let them play,

24 Aug 2010 06:13:43

Is this is it? Kuyt was just running. Lucas was awful, steve g stuk with a holding midfieldr role. He needs space. He likes to go forward. We can't use him there. I thnk if we didn't get a replacement for mash, then its geting knokd out even from the 7th position

24 Aug 2010 06:11:22

I'm tired of reading what some little children post on here e.g. "Click "Belivible" if you WANT John Arne Riise to come back to Liverpool.

Click "Unbelivible" if you don't.". FFS, is that person going to fund the transfer if enough people click "believable"? Is this site a MORI poll ffs? Who gives a toss about people's transfer desires! This is RUMOUR site children. Perhaps the Ed should add another section for "FANS' WET DREAMS". Rant over! !

24 Aug 2010 06:01:03
Lucas performance was under average in the last game. If roy have faith in poulsen then y he is not in the team? I don't understand this. Masch is going if we woudnt get a new replacement for mash then it wil be tough. Wat u say ed?

For the love of Christ it was the second game, give Roy and the lads a chance. A couple signings and West Brom should do it

To the person that asked about the Chinese Lady that was sitting by Kenny Dalglish, Christian Purslow and
Ian Eyre at Eastlands last night.

I was at the Liverpool vs Tranbzonspor AS Europa League play off last Thursday and she was at that match. I saw her getting out of a car all suited up, not far from where I was standing - this is where the LFC team coach and host club stop and all the players get off by the Shankly Gates. She was escorted inside by a member of the Football Club.

I do not know what her connections to the Club are - but this is her second match in a row v Man City (after seeing the pictures on SSN).

Although, I do not know if she attended the match v Arsenal as I did not go to the match.

Whether she is part of one of the consortiums involved in the takeover, maybe whose knows? This is 100% FACT and not a rumour!

{Editor's Note: It was suggested that she is the wife of Ian Ayre.}

Tonight was not a big game. that said, we did not seem to have spirit.masch will be a big loss if lucas is his no. 1 replacement. i think kuyt's head has also been turned by talks of interest from inter. either way he did not look on form tonight. city are a big powerful team now. atleast at home they are.
i also think that something is goin on in terms of a takeover. just my gut feeling. great site

Don't panic I say, fist game was good second game not so good, it is a sing of a new manager trying to sort out a team and the players he's got at his disposal.
He'll get it right soon with few additions.

Fans up and down the country will be laughing at Liverpool. All the chatter about being a great club with a big history doesn't wash any more. It used to be true that facing Liverpool was always a daunting prospect, even for the other EPL contenders. No matter what Hodgson does he is doomed to fail because the players and fans still think they are better than the reality. The truth is that Liverpool has been in steady decline for around 45 EPL matches and it's Statto Rating has declined from 961 to 911 with a points forecast of 61.

Top four no more. .just our opinion but get used to it:-

Please post this As I am stating The obvious, Liverpool are going downhill. No owners, best players leaving and Torres/ Gerrard Will give it '1 more season'. Lfc to finish 6th, Im being realistic. Bad Times ahead : especially after tonights performane.

I thought Pool's performance was weird as if they never got started, I think we have gone through too many changes one season without alonso and adapting to that and now mascherano and new players there is no stability but we faithful Pool fans will stick with the team and support them because we were very promising against Arsenal. We were told today to forget Toivonen by his club so roy now is looking elsewhere. why do we not bid for Forlan he always scores against us?what about mata?what about ruiz what is going on there? everything with us seems to take for ever in the transfer window.I heard the Kharafi family are still in the bid for liverpool.

Maybe Javier Macherano must have forgotten where he was when Liverpool came to sign him - in West Ham's reserves. They salvaged his career. How does he repay them? By refusing to play. He's a good player, not a great one, but he's certainly not a good man.
I say stick to the selling price if Barca want him they should pay the asking price if not let him ROT.

Why is it distasteful to sing the RAFA song, its called choice. A lot of fans did not want RAFA out, some did. The way he was treated was the disgrace!

As for Roy Hodgson, only time will tell , but overall not got a great record, never succeeded at the top , and may have been appointed because is a nice man, therefore will not rock the boat, and will not bad mouth the yanks! . Hope i'am wrong, but the start is not great, if we are honest.

As for tonight fans hace spent most of last season bleating on about we should play 442, tonight we did, look at the result, that said was not over impressed with Man City. If it was not for Hart in goal producing great performances against us and Spurs there league position would be very different.

Liverpool fan here, oh my god, Lucas, Kuyt and Ngog shocking, shocking, shocking!

Roy Hodgon a shocking, shocking appointment!

Acqualani on loan to Juventus that was such a cleaver move and keeping Lucas where is the logic in that! We are once again a laughing stock a 20 million pound player out on loan!

Will there ever be a striker there to play with Torres? I mean wake up and smell the coffee, one recognised striker is simply not good enough. . Fire Hodgson and hire Martin O'Neill which should have been done from the start. What was the singing about at the end of the game that was pathetic! singing for loosers! Keep up with that attitude and we'll be lucky to finish in the Top 10! Nipp this in the bud before it gets any worse!

From an embarresed Liverpool fan. {Editor's Note....Chin up mate}

Roy got tactics wrong tonite should have played 4-2-3-1 with poulsen and lucas as 2 with gerrard pushed up. Gerrard too deep tonite. Having said that not sure if we would of won anyway. Passing was poor and no energy, second to every ball

24 Aug 2010 00:22:12
Two games and one point, last year we got nothing against Arsenal and only 2 draws with Man city .So what good times for LFC to come with our honest manager .

24 Aug 2010 00:12:46
A bit of the topic.

But just wandering why Roy decided to use a 4-4-2 formation, for the first time, away from home against a team like city.

Surely such a bold move shouldn't be employed in such a game? The players looked uncomfortable and the formation is simply not going to work if the other midfielder is Lucas, who was the worst of a bad bunch tonight.
Gerrard was behind the ball far too often. One up front against Arsenal at home, so why change a week later when that worked well? {Editor's Note...Spurs played 4-4-2 and beat them at Eastlands last season to grab 4th place, maybe Hodgson thought Redknapp was on to something and decide to copy him...only problem is Liverpool's players weren't good enough tonight. Hopefully they will improve.}

I like many other fans are shocked by tonights performance. we were over ran in midfield and didn't have much going forward. i think we should definately take 15 million for kuyt from inter. .he has a magnificant work rate but i think we need more from the wings. .also i was wondering is Quaresma still at inter milan. .if so i think liverpool should ask for him with money in exchange for kuyt this would add some much needed flair and skill to the team. .also think we should try and sign giovinco from juventus on a loan deal as i read a few weeks back that they were willing to let him go! !

Roy hodgson just didn't know wht to do with the team. why 442 i don't know. then making late subs when subs should have been comin in earlier to change the game up. up side, with babel and pacheco we attacked more. dwn side, lucas playd like he did when he played his first ever game!

{Editor's Note......What do you expect? Benitez and H&G's legacy and the parlous state of the club will take years to turn around even if new new owners come in. A great image, history, traditions and wonderful supporters that attend games is no longer enough. Comparisons are odious, as the saying goes, but compared to the Liverpool of even the recent past it seems a pale imitation of what it has been and the signs aren't good for a speedy return to former glories.}

Thanks ed for allowing me post my response explaining myself and trying to explain i was not in the slightest way being racist, never ever would i be, plain and simple! there is no place for racism in any walk of life and it is something that each and everyone of us should try to to do our part in eliminating! so if i offended anyone earlier then i truely apologise for that but like i say, that word does not carry that meaning where im from but knowing that it obviously carries certain meanings elsewhere then i will never use that word again!

So, im sorry if i upset or offended anyone but it was not intended and so please if people could stop stirring it up or saying its some sort of racist site, its about football and our love and passion for our clubs and my one is liverpool and i want nothing but the best for my beloved liverpool so please people get back to giving your own views and opinions on what you think should happen with liverpool or your own club and stop nitpicking, thank you!

am i the only one who never saw what you wrote? ?
i dunno bout anyone else but i really want to know! 1

{Editor's Note: As the Ed who let this infraction through the word does not have any connotations where I am from either. Another word to add to my list of things to look out for.}

Why's everyone having a go at the usual targets. .Kuyt and Lucas? Be honest, who came out of tonight's game with any credibility? ? Easy targets and all that?!?!?!

On tonights performance, skyrtl, agger, johnson, gerrard, jovanavic, kuyt, torres, nogog, lucas don't deserve to wear the shirt. Lets not turn into the bitters. These days we're not happy unless we're moaning. Rafa, purslow, Broughton and on it goes. . . .
Fed up of you lot more than I'm fed up with the team.
