24 Aug 2017 23:38:58
Away from the CL and transfers, we have a game this weekend.

Looks like Wenger fancies the back 3 this season in a relatively high line. If the first 20 minutes yesterday taught us anything it is that Mane and Salah will run riot against that system if they get it wrong. No protection down the flanks if they stay narrow, and gaps in between for Firmino if the back 3 is spread thin trying to cover the wide areas.

I am optimistic for this one!

Believable8 Unbelievable1

24 Aug 2017 23:52:41
But what about the other end of the pitch? I'm not optimistic about the defence and goalie. Could be another 4-3.

25 Aug 2017 00:42:54
I would take 4-3.

25 Aug 2017 01:44:43
A bit off from the original post, if you don't mind MK.

Without talking about the defense, yes I agreed that the team is looking great with Firmino Mane and Salah. But one thing always bothers me is, if the team will have to rely too much on these three in terms of the attack. One off injured, who's on the bench that will be most suited to replace any of them?

Buying another three players of similar moulds of these three, I don't think is the answer. In fact, who's out there that are available to buy anyway?

So, having another system might be the answer (easier said than done) . But I am sure having another system or a contingency plan is always something that the manager already has. Proven? I'm not sure. Watched games without Mane last season, we struggled, and that might answer that question. Do we have good enough bench players to play this different system, I doubt it, for now.

I am a bit mixed looking at this new season to be honest. I think we are still short in numbers. Title or cup challenge? Maybe not this season.

25 Aug 2017 05:25:57
4-3 would be sufficient.

25 Aug 2017 06:20:59
Arsenal would be mad to play with a back three against us.

25 Aug 2017 06:26:57
Aresenal are there for the taking, no doubt and Arsene doesn't really do defensive football. Liverpool could win 4-2 or draw 3-3. Any tupe of win does me.

25 Aug 2017 08:05:51
Haizan,

Origi-Solanke-Sturridge
Wilson-Ings-Kent

Possibly Chamberlain arriving? We have depth up top with Sturridge fit and Salah and Solanke joining. More than enough depth.

25 Aug 2017 08:12:26
If we can keep Alexis, Lacazette and Ozil quiet then, we have a real chance at going at them. Also, Arsenal play a high line BUT don't press high and their CB's lack pace. They also do little off the ball when out of possession which to me, is our strongest point esp. vs the big teams. These are all the areas where we have exploited them in the past and it won't change come Sun cos well, it's Arsenal and Arsene does not change for anything or anyone. The back 3 was just a fluke and we know they can be gotten at. Ask Stoke and Leicester.

25 Aug 2017 08:30:56
This sure would be a goal fest and show the world how poor both teams defense are! Could go either way and we need to win the battle in midfield!

25 Aug 2017 09:04:17
Harry, don't worry. We will win the midfield battle cos Arsenal don't do a thing when out of possession in midfield, something we are the best at hence why the big teams can't beat us. They can't match us when it comes to off the ball work when out of possession in midfield.

25 Aug 2017 09:08:50
You have a good point there, MK.

But, like I said, that option is not proven, at least not yet, hence the mixed feeling.

I really hope I am wrong though.

24 Aug 2017 23:15:13
I know it has been well documented, and i know we haven't exactly handled this window perfectly, but I genuinely believe we will sign vvd and Keita, purely because I don't think even we will be that stupid to not move on, if they were dead ends. And I trust in macca's words.

Believable6 Unbelievable6

25 Aug 2017 02:20:10
If they do somehow happen before the end of the window which would be some type of miracle, then expect coutinho to be leaving as well.

25 Aug 2017 17:36:46
You obviously don't understand The FSG business model then matey. I can guarantee no more signings. Well maybe one or two £7-£12 mill punts like your solanke's, who for the record isn't a Klopp buy as he openly said he knew nothing of him until we signed him.

That indicates to me that Klopp doesn't have a great say in signings it's the same old moneyball concept I outlined at the very start of FSG's tenure but got mocked because it was seen that they 'saved us'. Anyone who thought we'd bring in Zkieta and VVD without selling Cout were in dreamland.

24 Aug 2017 23:13:19
people moaning on here that they wanted us to play europes elite teams. be happy that we may have a chance to go through. think some forget we haven't been in for awhile . some would be whingin if we got tonked playin madrid or something. We can beat any1 on our day just enjoy are return. ☺☺ ynwa.

Believable9 Unbelievable1

24 Aug 2017 23:26:56
If we can't beat the big teams what is the point of going through?

24 Aug 2017 23:47:27
Well, there is more money for club if we go through, and more games for the fans. That's two great reasons for me.

24 Aug 2017 23:54:06
Would you really rather have Chelse or Spurs group? We can face the bigger teams in the knockout stages, that's fine!

{Ed001's Note - if we get there.}

25 Aug 2017 01:21:41
Think we can score against anyone in the competition, regardless of who it is our attack will give them problems, and that gives you a chance no matter who it is.

The defence on the other hand guarantee plenty of "head in hands" moments.

We will have a great fun this season in Europe, totally looking forward to it, Anfield on Euro nights, good chance to progress, bring it on with hopefully more glamorous ties to come later :)

25 Aug 2017 03:23:32
Any person that wants difficult games is foolish at best and insane at worst. I will gladly win the group and fight a team like United or real in the round of 16 and take the profits from the group stages.

25 Aug 2017 04:17:10
OMG do we really have to debate the pros and cons of not being in a group of death? Let's just play who's in front of us and try win the frigging thing. I'm happy we've gotten a better chance for not being in a group with Barcelona and PSG, but we still have to win our games.

25 Aug 2017 05:35:15
Crazy to think people think we're that good that we'll walk through that group. All games are tough look at spurs last year - they didn't get through the group stages. If you progress there is plenty of time to play bigger teams.

25 Aug 2017 08:14:16
To those moaning, calm down. Just hope we get thru the group and then, you will get your wish. until then, stop moaning and be thankful for the group you are in. Pretty sure that Spurs will kindly swap places with us right now cos they may not even get thru.

24 Aug 2017 23:10:36
I really don't think this Keita deal is dead in the water yet. Got a feeling that it could still happen!
Also 138 million for coutinho shall I drive him to Barcelona myself. How much is mane worth then 😂.

Believable4 Unbelievable6

24 Aug 2017 23:25:18
I said weeks ago we would miss mane more than coutinho since he's come back from his injury he's been outastanding. when coutinho and mane were out with injuries last season i think we missed mane more with his pace and getting behind defences we really struggled.

24 Aug 2017 23:31:28
I don't get why fans care so much about money. They care about how good a deal everything is. I wouldn't sell Coutinho for a billion euros unless they were giving some of that to me personally.

He is a world class player. The more game changers we have the better. I can't see any improvements on coutinho we can buy and I also see no need to sell. Once he gets over the disappointment he will again be one of our stars this season. And he will be needed trust me .

24 Aug 2017 23:42:52
If you try and drive Phil to Barcelona I'll stick a bread knife in your tyres.

24 Aug 2017 23:59:07
what if he drives him in a tank 😉.

25 Aug 2017 02:23:08
But in one way the club has improved, by backing the manager saying not for sale,
It has let Klopp concentrate on the players who want to play for the club, and in doing that have qualified to th CL proper.

Without the IRREPLACEABLE personinio.

If we could only sort out getting a few heads in without getting banned We would be well away.

Ps I did not misspell his name.
Sorry Eds.

24 Aug 2017 23:05:30
With all the talk of our woeful defence, what ideally would people rather see. Liverpool winning games with a grinding 1-0 week in week out by tinkering with the balance in midfield to protect our back four more, or continue to watch attacking and at times breathtaking footy and winning games 4-3? Whilst I want to see us win the league at any cost at this point, it would be hard to watch us win it ala a Maureen style defensive team or when Leicester were winning most games on the counter 1-0. My point being a win is a win however it comes and being so hung up on keeping it tight at the back will inevitably mean we won't get as many chances up front.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

24 Aug 2017 23:11:23
I'd rather see us not concede silly goals, regardless of where they come from.

There is a stark difference to Mourinho football and that the likes of which Arsenal and City played in their title winning seasons, a good defence and winning games by more than a goal aren't mutually exclusive.

We should be prioritizing that CB position as much as if humanly possible before 1st September.

24 Aug 2017 23:40:43
Our defensive issues are far, far more basic than just being caught out because we play in an attacking manner.

Playing attacking football doesn't excuse us from conceding scruffy goals from set pieces. It doesn't excuse Lovren not getting anywhere near Wagner for his goal or his general habit of switching off in games. It doesn't excuse our goalkeeper needing three attempts to catch a cross.

I suppose we could cover these deficiencies by playing like Houllier had us play, but that's all it would be: covering over instead of fixing them. They could be fixed with a quality addition and a bit of on pitch leadership without needing to change how we play.

25 Aug 2017 01:57:34
rushie I think you are completely missing the point. playing this fast pace high attacking football means we need to have a solid 4 at the back, mainly the cb's to let robbo and taa run the flanks. having a solid defence doesn't mean we have to change our style of play, I just means to be successful it is needed.

25 Aug 2017 06:21:24
1-0 everytime.
Title winning sides have solid defences.

25 Aug 2017 08:32:02
Something Red and Giant are spot on. Our defensive issues stem from basic errors. It is not rocket science solving our issues and to say that we should keep doing what we are doing and conceding stupid, silly goals cos well, we attack a lot, is a cop out and dereliction of duty. We have a back four that has no confidence in their GK. Why? Cos he is dodgy, does not have confidence in himself (talks a good game, tho) and should never have been put back in the team, period regardless of Karius' two pathetic errors which was overhyped and many fans turned on him.

Karius was bought cos Migs had been a failure but suddenly everyone forgot about all that. If we had an authoritative GK, our back four would know that he has their back if they screw up, just like Utd know that DDG will bail them out cos their defence is not that great either.

Klopp should have stuck with him at the time BUT I understand why he did it. The kid played 10 games and barely had anything to do BUT everyone blamed him for the B'mouth meltdown whereas there was a lot of blame to go around for that meltdown including that of Klopp. Now, we are stuck with the old Migs, flapping at crosses.

24 Aug 2017 22:31:10
So saying coutinho leaves, what position or role is the player replacing him ideally going to be? I find it hard to believe many people can replicate what he does for us because obviously his class but he seems unique being winger/ center midfield.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

24 Aug 2017 22:45:48
Replacement lined up
AOC.

24 Aug 2017 23:09:21
Look wat we done last night without him there is players out there that will fit into klopps system, admittedly he is approaching world class standards but we made him, jus like we will make someone else.

24 Aug 2017 23:56:18
AggerDo how on earth is Alex Oxlade Chamberlain a suitable replacement for Coutinho? That's like trading in a Ferrari for a Yugo Zastava?!?!? He lacks any of the skill and intelligence that Coutinho has on the ball and never will have that ability.

25 Aug 2017 08:36:02
AggerDo, I seriously fear for you if you think AOC can replace Cou. He's not fit to carry Cou's bath bag.

Back to the OP, there are simply no like for like replacements for him. None. This is why he is not getting sold.

25 Aug 2017 08:59:00
BingoRed, the closest out there is Insigne. He has the same skillset, passing ability and is deadly from free kicks as well as being a double hard little bastard to knock off the ball. If we signed him as replacement I would not be unhappy at all.

25 Aug 2017 09:06:26
I would agree with that, Mr Dennis. Would not mind Mertens, now that you think about it.

25 Aug 2017 10:45:23
I am not sure we need to look at a like for like player. We certainly need some guile in the absence of Couts and Lallana but not necessarily like for like.

25 Aug 2017 14:10:40
I am taking up fishing
Can't believe i got bites with the AOC comment

Course he's not fit to replace Couts.

25 Aug 2017 17:32:47
I really struggle with the idea that there is no one else in the world that can cut in from the left and shoot the ball, and can pick a through ball.

24 Aug 2017 22:20:42
Ed002. Having read down the page regarding Coutinho and whst he has done and posters saying let him rot in reserves and sell him etc etc its clear that most of our fan base want him gone and rid of.

My question is, do you see a way back for him onto the team and squad after all that has gone on and been said? I struggle to see how he can return tbh?

Believable1 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - I think it would be difficult but right now he is being made to stay.}

24 Aug 2017 22:40:10
Football is a fickle business and fans are even more fickle. Increasingly, players at a club are judged by what they're doing right at the time and are only retrospectively analysed for everything they did over their entire time at a club, good and bad, after they leave.

Let's say Coutinho is faking an injury to avoid training and playing, and let's say he does release a statement saying he wants to leave (which is just paper talk at the moment, he hasn't actually done that and may have no intention to) . He's still won't have embarrassed himself or the club to the degree Suarez did. And whilst we all now say "oh Suarez was awful and it's good to be rid of him", when his performances nearly propelled us to a league title despite the fact that we were managed by half a chimp, was anyone really thinking about his prior behaviour and wishing he wasn't here? A small minority of fans, at the most, were. I know I wasn't.

If Coutinho comes back in and plays well, we may not forgive him, but we'll certainly put any transgressions to one side, at least for as long as he's here and performing well.

24 Aug 2017 22:47:07
Ed- in your opinion do you think Klopp has a pi$$ on because he may want him gone?
More difficult to integrate him back in.

{Ed002's Note - I doubt it. It is just a mess he has created.}

24 Aug 2017 23:02:36
We have to sell him ed surely.

24 Aug 2017 23:07:03
Coutinho has had his head turned and everyone knows it however it will be a huge mistake to sell.

He will knuckle down once he gets over the disappointment and IMO fans should lay off him and let him do what he does best when he does. He s just doing what he can to get a dream move. Not the worst thing in the world. Liverpool do not want to sell one of their best players. Again not the worst thing in the world.

I'm open to everyone's opinion but my God i've listened to some stupid stuff in the last few weeks.

The best thing for liverpool fc is to keep coutinho, support him as fans to get over the disappointment and show him he us loved here still and then for him to rip team after team apart with our other star forwards.

24 Aug 2017 23:11:44
So when someone is makin a mess like really actively going out of his way like phil wat do u do, shame football comin too this its ugly.

25 Aug 2017 08:40:14
Hail, you stand your ground. That is what you do. Cou can thow a strop till the cows come home, he ain't getting sold. If he did not wanna stay, he should have rejected the new deal and not signed it, Now, he signed it with the pay raise and agent fee (for his piece of work agent) and now, wants to jump ship so he and his agent can get another pay raise and sweet agent fee? Really? He messing w/ the wrong owners cos American sports team owners are not to be messed with. They pay your wages and hence to them, you have NO demands to make esp. since you just signed an extension in Jan. he is staying and that is that.

24 Aug 2017 22:17:15
If coutinho does what is being reported then let him go.
Also I want the club to forget about van dijk and target another quality centre back. That is situation is a mess and we'll be robbed. Van dijk is not the only quality centre back in world football. Klopp will have to get over it especially as he caused the mess.

Believable3 Unbelievable10

24 Aug 2017 22:46:24
Part of me says we should go for Manolos, he's a bit of a psycho but he's a good defender and good in the air.

24 Aug 2017 23:12:46
Anyone of quality who can dominate in the air please he is out there.

24 Aug 2017 23:59:39
Howedes has agree a deal with Juve. But I'm not utterly convinced on reflection that he would be the answer. Gibson is an appalling player and we should steer well clear, VVD is not really an option, so we're at Manolos, Koulibaly or Tah.

25 Aug 2017 08:41:18
Klopp would know a lot more about Howedes than anyone else so if he did not go for him, there is a very good reason why.

24 Aug 2017 22:09:03
Ok, may be my opinion but I think what liverpool lack right now is a villain (among many other things) . Someone other teams hate to play against because even if they're losing they're going to give you hell. Think mascherano, Suarez, Costa. The player you love to have in your team but if they played for anyone else you'd hate.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - they have Firmino - he has a police record.}

24 Aug 2017 22:16:11
Nice one, Ed.

24 Aug 2017 22:34:45
Haha very good.

24 Aug 2017 22:56:23
Which one Ed - message in a bottle was always my favourite.

24 Aug 2017 22:07:28
Ed002 I know you love conspiracy theories and smoke screens (😂) but was wondering with liverpool vs arsenal at the weekend, and you have implied that liverpool might go in for ox chambo before the deadline then was wondering do players have a strong or good feeling a move to a club will happen. What I'm asking is if the ox thinks he is moving to liverpool then playing against us and maybe contributing to a arsenal win could hinder against us in longer term if he was to sign. If a "little niggle" keeps him out of our game the weekend then a deal will happen (😂😂) hope you enjoyed your day in Monaco too.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

24 Aug 2017 21:54:01
Let's be honest ed002 I don't think the club and klipperty need any help with that.

Believable0 Unbelievable5

24 Aug 2017 21:38:41
So according to internet talk and sky sports coutinho is considering releasing a statement or an interview expressing his desire to leave lfc and join barcelona. Well a bit late mate I think the whole ****in world knows you wanna go after you faked injury and handed in your transfer request mate! 🤣.

Believable7 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - the issue is not what people knows but the embarrassment it will cause the club and Klipperty.}

24 Aug 2017 21:47:36
Let him do what he wants and on 1st September the spineless snake will have to suck up to those he's trying to embarrass, I bet he's not embarrassed about picking up his 150K this week is he?

{Ed002's Note - Would you want to sign a player who behaves like him?}

24 Aug 2017 21:54:15
He can rot in the reserves for the next 5 years then. I doubt any LFC supporter would care if he goes ahead with this "interview" and especially if the s*n is the one he has approached to do it.

{Ed002's Note - You really are a complete idiot.}

24 Aug 2017 21:54:39
Sorry Ed002. From your reply I take it this is something that he is considering doing?

I don't see why the club are messing around. If Barcelona are willing to offer the 137+ the club really needs to look to move on and get this sorted.

{Ed002's Note - no, from my imply I am asking why Liverpool fans are embarrassing themselves over Coutinho whilst drooling after Van Dijk.}

24 Aug 2017 21:55:56
Well he's been "prepared" to release the statement for about 14 hours now. Until a statement is released I'll treat talk like what it is: talk.

24 Aug 2017 21:56:01
Sounds like he is playing piker and is putting most of his chips into the pot.

Don't think he has considered the implications if LFC does not fold.

Pipco could be facing a major career problem.

Hopefully LFC can bring in a couple of players to strengthen the defence and midfield and once that is done let Pipco move on to Barca.

If we can't get the players in then Pipco has to stay and he may find his professional life difficult in the short term.

Best thing might be for Barcelona to accept defeat for now and let Pipco know the door will be open next summer.

24 Aug 2017 22:02:01
Correct eds
It's let me go or I will embarrass the club even more.
So sad really.

24 Aug 2017 22:04:56
I agree on that ed002. So much hypocrisy at the moment. Sad state of the game for me personally.

24 Aug 2017 22:05:56
I think this is a real shame for pipco, if he releases a statement slagging Klopp or the club off, all he is going to do is make it look like he is pushing even harder for a move. If that move then doesn't happen, he has a lot of making up to do.

Regardless of what we did re VVD (which I completely agree was very very wrong Eds) it's just going to look like a further tantrum to get his move, and even if what is said is actually true, most won't believe it because as above, it will just seem like him pushing for the move and trying anything possible to get it.

I think we need to sell him now, this is just lose lose for everyone involved. Do we really want to bite our nose off and lose £130 odd million to let him rot in the reserves and serve no purpose to the team? No, let him go, take the money and use it on players who really want to play for us (which apparently VVD is one)

{Ed002's Note - van Dijk has done the same thing.}

24 Aug 2017 22:08:12
Unfortunately ed02 most fans don't care how players behave at other clubs, they just see what qualities he'd bring their team, personally I think both him and vvd are absolutely despicable, and if I thought for one second we'd replace coutinho with someone with similar qualities I'd sell him in the morning, as I said I bet both are still happy to pick up their pay pack each week.

24 Aug 2017 22:17:43
Agreed Ed002. My preference would be someone that doesn't cheese their club off coming to us but from what yo guys have said, Liverpool (wrongly) don't have any alternatives to those they have tapped up.

The window has been a bit of a farce from start to finish with the way Liverpool have acted, so actually, maybe we shouldn't be so suprised when our top players act the way the club have!

24 Aug 2017 22:24:01
Do u think if he releases statement that will get him his move at this point I would get rid he ain't worth bother an we have coped without him, how can the club pay him 150 grand a week after poisoning are great name an moping about affecting team, I just don't see any way bak.

24 Aug 2017 22:37:25
We've coped without him hailstones? You can hardly say that after 2 league games and 2 cl ties, why should we weaken outside just to give him what he wants? If a player of similar qualities can be found then I'd sell in the morning, other than that he can suck it up.

24 Aug 2017 23:20:48
Ello port red I am just worried he won't try for us an cause negative energy within squad we have good youngsters an current players who want too play for us and help us grow, if we don't sell him wat do u think his attitude is going to b like especially as he said he had had tensions under klopp and there relationship soured, half ov me wants too not give into wat he wants no matter wat, and other half sayin sell his sorry ass an strengthen squad, look wat we did last night we can build on that without him.

25 Aug 2017 00:47:00
We need to forget about Coutinho.

If he goes, he goes, bigger and better have left the club.

If he stays, we'll support him in the red shirt.

But we're total hypocrites here if we really want VVD to sign, because no doubt we've told him to employ the same tricks Barcelona have with Coutinho.

At the end of the day we've done the same thing as Barcelona have, so we should accept the good with the bad.

25 Aug 2017 04:39:43
Liverpool back in the CL! Oh European nights to look forward to again. If couter stays, he stays. if he goes, he goes. in any event enjoy where we are at again and hopefully as the Ed's eluded to, we progress and improve, good decisions are made and we continue to grow and move forward.
I wouldn't worry about other teams, as long as we progress and improve as a unit day in and day out, we will get to where we need to.

25 Aug 2017 17:29:21
The if he does that would it force the clubs hand?

25 Aug 2017 17:30:25
is coutinho going to make this statement from his hospital bed first he had a back injury then a virus for all we know he could have somethink else wrong with him. just wish this whole coutinho saga was over one way or another.

24 Aug 2017 21:20:52
Big vvd any news it's Thursday night 9.15 and nothing has come out over transfers.?

Believable9 Unbelievable4

25 Aug 2017 17:31:38
Saints would rather sell us a virus than sell us VVD.

24 Aug 2017 20:30:27
Hi ed002 not been on here for over 7 years pal but great to be back🤗 is it true the rumour that indykaila has on twitter that lfc have an aggrement with rbl leipzig of 75 million for keita and a lot of people think the ox and vvd will happen now we have confirmed champions league pal can u confirm any of this for me please and if not what your up to date info is on all of the players above.

{Ed002's Note - try asking on Twitter.}

24 Aug 2017 20:50:22
Is there a way we can add a thumbs up to the Eds responses?

{Ed002's Note - No.}

24 Aug 2017 22:09:32
👍 Brezteke.

24 Aug 2017 22:15:15

If u believe twitter u may as well buy the biggest wet fish u can find an get your mate too thwack it round the side of ya face very hard.

24 Aug 2017 20:34:28
For Banter.
Hi Eds,
Putting aside transfers for a moment does anyone think we need to look at our formation. Can't help thinking our midfield doesn't protect the back 4 enough.
Maybe a proper DM hard man in front of them would keep the pressure off them.

Believable8 Unbelievable5

24 Aug 2017 20:58:27
Playing Moreno as LB is what's unsettling the CB's in my opinion, the only game they have been ok was when Robertson played. We need to upgrade our CB's yes but as needing a change in formation no not needed at all.

If Robertson is not fit enough yet to play 2 games a week then we need to put Milner in the LB position until he's ready and that will help with what's happening at the moment.

24 Aug 2017 21:15:03
I understand your point savvy but I don't think Morenos presence makes Lovren pass the ball straight to opposition striker, lose aerial battles or make Migs miss catches. Sometimes players just sent good enough, and right now as iv said elsewhere on here, I think Lovren and Migs are a bigger liability than Moreno.

24 Aug 2017 20:03:39
Dreamland! Liverpool coming to Maribor! I am nervous already, god.

So, is there any chance (even the tiniest), that I get 2 tickets for away sector?

Believable17 Unbelievable1

24 Aug 2017 20:25:31
I doubt you will get one through the club.

24 Aug 2017 20:32:14
Dunno mate, look into it lol
I'm happy for you I remember seeing your post the other night.
If you can't get tickets in the away section just go in the home section and try and not go mad when we score lol.

24 Aug 2017 21:22:37
Thanks mikey, will check it for sure. We have official supporters group in Slovenia, so maybe we could get some tickets that way.

As for home section. yeah, that will be my escape option, but would really love to cheer for our team with our fans. Oh, and the tickets will be REALLY hard to get. season ticket holders have first pick. And I am not sure if I have guts to go to gome secion in Liverpool kit, lol :D

Anyway this will be crazy day, actually week, for me. Really looking forward to it.

25 Aug 2017 00:06:50
Mate, don't wear a liverpool shirt and try not to celebrate when/ if we score.

25 Aug 2017 00:48:57
Good luck pal! Would be happy for you if you manage to get a ticket!

24 Aug 2017 19:56:31
My opinion of the CL draws is this, NO group will be easy. Anything can happen and anyone can beat anyone!

I am just so excited to see the first game get going and indeed to see the wonderful stadium that Anfield is, host all the Home games.

I remember the wonderful atmosphere produced in the games against Barcelona, Roma etc.
With the addition of extra seats in the main stand, i think we could quite literally blow the roof off, if it had one of course!

Here's to the 2017/ 18 CL with LFC back where they belong!

Believable8 Unbelievable1

24 Aug 2017 20:42:59
I'd like to say we got an easy group on paper probably the best we could have asked for. Let's hope when we go to Seville Moreno remembers who he plays for lol.

24 Aug 2017 19:37:09
First post. been reading on here for a while and thought I'd jump in. Bought the Coutinho shirt at Anfield for my boy and was desperate to see him stay. After the way he's disrespected the club, he's not fit to wear the shirt. Take the money.

Believable5 Unbelievable7

24 Aug 2017 19:48:12
Never buy a shirt with a name on mate.
You could probably get one with TAA on though, that lads going to be here a while.

24 Aug 2017 20:02:46
If this guy prepared too give a public statement sayin why he wants too leave liverpool in my eyes he an embarrassment an has no respect for club an teammates am especially fans, if he would ov got his head down played been professional we might had more respect for him, I personally want the dough I can see him bein a parasite moping round wid a titty lip.

24 Aug 2017 20:10:23
Real, Barcelona and Bayern along with PSG and the english rich boys will try to turn his head in a couple of years time if he keeps developing.

24 Aug 2017 20:16:04
Bought the Bobby Firmino shirt last year solely because I believed Coutinho would move in the next two windows. I was wrong. and then this summer happened, and it looks obvious he will be gone before too long, so I feel I made an excellent choice long term! That said, he has played well in his time with the club and there was never a negative peep heard before "Barca told me to email you" and "my back is sick" scenarios, so I can't say I won't wish him well when he goes. Of course, while we're on the subject of new uniforms, you must remember -- Liverpool changes their kits every season anyway so you could have got one that said Trent Alexander Arnold rookie jersey but it might say Carlsberg on it in 2025 when he's club captain!

24 Aug 2017 20:26:04
Tour guide said "you're safe no way he's leaving" 🙄.

24 Aug 2017 20:47:34
Next time get a shirt with the name Dalglish - he is a living legend for us.

24 Aug 2017 21:59:13
Defo go for TAA
Cheap printing.

25 Aug 2017 17:28:34
My son had torres, carroll and suarez on his shirts, so gave up. didn't bother with names on next two then this shirt was going to get couts on, but decided on mane so maybe he'll stay! .

24 Aug 2017 19:36:02
Eds,

Does the result last night and the group that we've been drawn in this evening have any influence on our ability to close any remaining transfer targets?

Would be amazing if you were able to shed any light on whether it matters a great deal to the players we might have in our sights?

Thanks for all the great work

💩Pooper.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - it was never the issue with signing the players we have been trying to get.}

24 Aug 2017 19:52:18
Players will be queuing up around the block to take on Maribor over 2 games in the CL.

25 Aug 2017 07:24:51
Clearly I was referring to our chances of making it out of the group stages improving Jayden. But, you know, thanks for your input.

{Ed001's Note - he does have a point though, it is not an attractive draw in that respect.}

25 Aug 2017 09:04:37
Apologies popper for trying to have a little banter on the banter page.

24 Aug 2017 19:19:29
Hi EDS thanks for all the sufficient work 😂😂 do you guys think the favourable draw we have gotten in the champions league will help in attracting players (as in we are more likely to go further) or does just being in it do the job.

Believable2 Unbelievable5

24 Aug 2017 19:52:38
Being in the Champions League is sufficient, I think. The draw is more a matter of luck and clearly insufficient to influence any sufficiency deficiencies we may have.

24 Aug 2017 19:19:29
Hi EDS thanks for all the sufficient work 😂😂 do you guys think the favourable draw we have gotten in the champions league will help in attracting players (as in we are more likely to go further) or does just being in it do the job.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No it makes no difference. Liverpool has their targets and will need to look elsewhere if needs be. We are now overrun with people who think that Liverpool will drop interest in the likes of Keita and van Dijk - they won't.}

24 Aug 2017 20:01:32
To be fair ed, I think lots of us already think we will/ must move on to others as its been explained over and over on here the situation with the 2 mentioned above with there clubs stance. Having failed so far to make any progress with them its hard to imagine things will change in the last 7days?

{Ed002's Note - sure.}

24 Aug 2017 19:15:33
Evening eds and macca good win yesterday and really happy with the group. Surely with not very long left o the transfer window we have to see some movement in regards to players coming in now we have qualified do u see anyone more pmayer arriving or not also just wondering what happened in regards to interest in Muniain it's anaemia that never comes up anymore a really good player can't believe no1 has snapped her m up yet.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - I have answered this on several occasions.}

24 Aug 2017 20:03:12
Who doesn't mr Dennis! :p.

24 Aug 2017 19:03:06
good draw for the reds but remember Watford and hoffemhiem put 3 goals past us and s. moscow and Seville are much better teams need to sort defence still think we should get through group tho.

Believable3 Unbelievable4

24 Aug 2017 19:29:44
Totally agree mate. Hopefully qualifying for the group stages will bring us a bit more luck in the transfer market.

24 Aug 2017 19:39:08
Yes but we put 6 past Hoffenheim 😉.

24 Aug 2017 20:04:13
Thanks for the reminder steve222, I had forgotten the scorelines.

24 Aug 2017 20:04:56
If we get better defence an depth in squad this team could go a long way hope we take notice of this.

24 Aug 2017 18:58:41
Think Chelsea Barcelona and Tottenham will have a tough time getting out of their groups or certainly topping them! With atletico, roma, juventus, sporting, Madrid and dortmund those 3 groups could go either way depending on one or two results!

We should definitely be topping ours if our aim is to put a good run together in the champions league and if we do top it and avoid others who top theirs then u would suspect we could be faced against one of the follow in the round of 16; benfica, napoli, Monaco, and possibly psg or bayern as it's hard to call who will top that one and what way group d will go with Barcelona juve and sporting.

Great to see us back in there tho but and although the draw was kind to us it wasn't too bad on us last time around either when we failed to get thru it! This is the champions league for a reason, the best teams are in it! Even the ones u think u r going to roll over ie Maribo, they aren't in there for the fun of it and we have to go out there and beat them! It'll be a good test for our defense against these sides on big European nights both away and at anfield!

Let's hope for a busy few days ahead now with reenforcements coming in to help with a tough year of fixtures to come and a bit more quality to be introduced.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Spartak Moscow
Sevilla
Liverpool
Maribor

Lots of posts on the CL draw, I know, but here's my opinion anyway:

You could have probably swapped Sevilla for Porto, but we really couldn't have asked for anything better than this.

Believable7 Unbelievable1

25 Aug 2017 00:53:06
Favourable draw for sure but nothing guaranteed, right to be confidant though.

24 Aug 2017 18:29:49

Clocks ticking lol.

Tick tock.

24 Aug 2017 18:48:49
Think the guy just said the some time from today onwards until deadline day, there would be some transfer news. Which is kind of just stating the obvious!

24 Aug 2017 19:08:55
That will be Big vvd. He seems to have gone quiet.

24 Aug 2017 19:55:26
No he said specifically Thursday the club will be making statements on transfers.

24 Aug 2017 16:11:55
Ed025 and Ed001

Chelsea.

24 Aug 2017 19:27:19
Yeah I said this already Soton have told VVD he ain't going no where.

24 Aug 2017 19:40:43
I agree with Ron.

24 Aug 2017 18:20:10
Anyone else catch who Liverpool sent to the CL draw?

Ian Rush and the club secretary, neither of which have any role or say in transfers. Just in case Barcelona thought they could arrange a quick chat like they did with Dortmund.

Also, Gullem Ballague has said that Barcelona cannot afford Dembele, Couts, and one of their other targets such as Seri or a CB. He's usually a very good source for Barcelona or Madrid info.

Eds or anyone, any reason to believe that Dembele's move may end further moves for Couts?

Fingers crossed its the case, I think Couts will stay anyway but I'd rather have the move called off now so the player can start to focus on Liverpool than to wait another week for the window to shut.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

24 Aug 2017 18:30:13
Gullem Ballague knows nothing. The Coutinho saga has shown him up as a complete idiot, he has been on sky sports changing his stance everyday for about two weeks. If he toldme the sun was going to rise tomorrow I'd have trouble believing him.

24 Aug 2017 18:43:09
Apparently dembele to Barcelona done.

24 Aug 2017 18:46:11
Lol okay never mind then.

In other news, Couts had a haircut in Liverpool yesterday. Rumour is that half way through the cut the barber threatened to shave a knob in the back of his head if he didn't agree to stay. Hair looks normal to me so looks like that's confirmation that he'll stay.

Kind of made that up but that's what rumour sites are for!

24 Aug 2017 19:32:04
George - Balague is like a puppet. I mean he says Barcelona cannot afford Dembele, Coutinho and Seri. Well I doubt Barcelona would buy Seri if they go Coutinho. Then he messed up saying Coutinho is a Neymar replacement. Dybala is the player who Barcelona want to replace Neymar. Veratti they wanted to replace Iniesta, Coutinho 2nd option. Dembele was just an extra player they want.

Financially wise, Barcelona has just received £200m in a lump sum, potentially more with other player sales. So with Coutinho probably costing £25m upfront, same with Dembele. It leaves plenty of room surely.

24 Aug 2017 18:19:13
Wow for being in pot three that is a great looking group for Liverpool.

Our group isn't too shabby either.

Benfica and Sevilla moderately tough, both have a long trip to Russia. Both have to be well pleased with that outcome.

24 Aug 2017 18:23:49

We haven't seen u since you crawled back under that rock when the football genius moyes was in charge.

24 Aug 2017 18:27:22
Europe is just a simple breeze for us.

24 Aug 2017 18:38:47
Alright Sydney mate. Long time not see on this page. Seems you've regained your confidence ;)
It's a great draw for Liverpool. Don't understand the laughs at spurs draw. It's as if mostly arsenal fans and the rest have forgotten how strong they were last season. Strong defence. Top keeper. Quality midfield and two top players to cause serious damage in kane and del alli. I think they'll qualify if they perform how they did last season.
Great for English football that the greatest English club is back where it is belongs.

24 Aug 2017 18:39:26
I wouldn't want to be one of my relatives either 25, most of them are blue noses!

24 Aug 2017 18:44:48
Would anyone know how id go about getting tickets for the Sevilla game.
I'm based in Spain and I'm not too far from Sevilla.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Ynwa.

24 Aug 2017 18:46:49
Sandon - Trust me it's nothing to do with MU doing well, to be fair two games really means nothing. Messy separation. Custody battle bla bla. Anyway, £15k later I've just started feeling happy again and why wouldn't I, my babies are safe and sound with their daddy now.

P. S - My new next door neighbour is a Scouser. A Manc and Scouser living next door to each other. Great banter and luckily for me he's a top bloke.

24 Aug 2017 19:20:11
It certainly is BigAl, thank you for recognising the good work that Jose and the squad have done. Very touching coming from a scouser.

24 Aug 2017 19:21:03
I honestly thought youd been tied up and locked away in someones dungeon.
and if you fancy taking harry with you to your page, don't let us get in your way. he needs someone new to stalk as ed001 has him camped outside his place in spain every night.

{Ed001's Note - that's why I left Spain months ago, but shhhhh harry hasn't noticed yet!}

24 Aug 2017 19:37:55
Welcome back Sydney, always appreciated yer banter on here, and good to hear you're in a good place.

Very similar groups for Liverpool and Man Utd, I can see both qualifying top.

24 Aug 2017 20:09:47
Lol
Kopette, if you're based close to Sevilla shouldn't you be dishing out advice as to how to get to the game! Albeiy with the home crowd!?

24 Aug 2017 18:18:15
That is one hell of a draw, I think us, and the manc clubs will be happy with our respective groups. No excuses for us though, we should be finishing top.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

24 Aug 2017 18:16:10
Bad draw in my opinion. Not only have we missed out on all the best teams in Europe, but we also got second rate teams like Moscow and Maribor who are going to turn up purely to spoil which we know we struggle against.

Some people baffle me. We have struggled for years to get back in the Champions League so that we can enjoy playing against Europes elite, and then we are celebrating drawing Sevilla who are a Europa league team punching above their weight, and a couple of clubs nobody really cares about.

I wanted to see how Mane and co Would do against Madrid, Juventus, PSG etc. If the teams in our group turn up to park the bus we might not even get to play the big boys. At least last time when we got Ludogorets and Basel we also got a decent challenge in Madrid!

Disappointed. On a positive note, we really should qualify from that group. It will be Klopps head if we don't come out with at least 13 points. Just got to find a way past parked buses.

Believable3 Unbelievable19

24 Aug 2017 18:20:21
Bit harsh on Sevilla there Adam. I've always quite liked them.

24 Aug 2017 18:21:43
The aim is to go as far in the competition as possible. In my opinion the draw is very good and i would be gutted if we didn't qualify from the group. There will be plenty of time to play the big boys.

24 Aug 2017 18:22:57
MK I see your point but id rather see the bigger teams in the knockout rounds and enjoy our journey a little longer.

Hopefully see couple of players coming in now to shore up the defence and improve our attack in breaking teams down.

24 Aug 2017 18:20:48
Eds any chance of a little write up on our group opposition. Their strengths and weaknesses, star men and how they set up to play. I was a little worried about teams parking the bus but I can't see Sevilla playing that way but no little to nothing on the other 2.

{Ed001's Note - if I get the chance I will.}

24 Aug 2017 18:25:53
Agree with you actually, however it is nice to know that we have a good chance of qualifying from the group and have a warm up for the big boys!

If we get some early wins then hopefully we can rest some players and rotate the squad/ key players for the last couple of games.

24 Aug 2017 18:26:07
Well, we could try making it out of the group stages first. Then we would be able to face the European heavyweights such as Real Madrid, Barca, Juventus, PSG, Bayern etc

Most of the Liverpool are not seasoned Champions League players so it might be good to get a favourable draw in the group stages to get used to the travelling, hostile/ partisan away crowds etc before facing the giants in the knockout rounds.

24 Aug 2017 18:32:28
We need to get ourselves noticed first before we start trying to play against Madrid and Barcelona early on.

Our reputation, prestige and finances would benefit from as long a run as possible in the Champions League.

24 Aug 2017 18:34:42
Hope you're right Rover and Lavers. I want big European nights. On a positive note, should be really easy to get tickets for Maribor and Moscow. I haven't seen a European game since Besiktas in the Europa league about 3 years ago!

24 Aug 2017 18:36:13
Why beat Barcelona in the group stages when we can beat them in the final 👍.

24 Aug 2017 18:46:43
i want to get as far as we possibly can and feel we have a better chance of progression against moscow Sevilla or maribor. let's see what mane can do against the bigger teams in the knockouts. Some people just never ever happy.

24 Aug 2017 18:54:45
The draw is the draw, stop moaning!

24 Aug 2017 19:04:28
We need to earn the right to play the bigger teams in the knockout rounds. It is the disrespect shown to the likes of Spartak and Sevilla that will see us depart the competition in the group phase.
We need to be up for EVERY game and then see where it takes us.

24 Aug 2017 19:05:34
Don't think it's fair to call Seville a Europa league team punching above their weight. They earned the right to be in the CL just like us, after all.

24 Aug 2017 19:06:48
Punching above their weight?
What division does that put us in then, having been comprehensively knocked out?

Better to progress to the later rounds than now out early against the big boys?
Or would you rather Spurs group?

24 Aug 2017 20:13:30
MK it's all very well wanting 'big nights' but we are still hunting down at least 3 targets. We're not in the same position as the big guns right now. I'd rather we build up our confidence over the course of the season rather than look like right tits cos we think a louder stadium may carry us through. We're a very good team but a little way to go still.

25 Aug 2017 17:24:05
I agree the draw is awful
Not exciting
And lfc will struggle against these teams
They will surprise everyone
And before games people will think it's easy
Then we lose from silly mistakes

In my opinion we had more chance against the toughtest draw likes Spurs

Terrible draw for Liverpool.

25 Aug 2017 17:26:36
Don't know why you're complaining about the draw we got, if it's going to allow us a higher chance of qualifying then I'm happy, then we would get to play the big boys anyway. If we can't qualify from this group then we don't deserve to be playing champions league.

24 Aug 2017 18:08:06
I see that group and we should be topping it.

Understatement of the year. Spurs drew the absolute group of death, we have got it light but, as always with us, we struggle against the lesser sides, so hope we can give a good account of ourselves.

24 Aug 2017 18:32:33
When do Man U ever get a tough draw!

24 Aug 2017 18:00:18
So sky reporting we are interested in Renato Sanchez again and the Dembele deal to Barcelona is as good as done.

Not sure why we would want Sanchez? Does the Dembele deal mean Couts is staying? (Sorry that's probably been answered but with all the transfer rumour stuff on the site now it's hard to find the answer)

Believable0 Unbelievable4

24 Aug 2017 18:04:34
Dembele was always to play upfront and Coutinho as Iniestas successor so no, don't think we're safe yet!

24 Aug 2017 18:04:45
No it doesn't mean he is staying.

24 Aug 2017 18:09:47
Demebele will replace neymar. Couts was to replace Iniesta. I don’t get why paper talk still says Coutinho is to replace neymar when he isn't 😖.

Could have been a lot worse. Look at Chelsea and Spurs, both of them got a group of death!

24 Aug 2017 18:16:13
Not sure Atleti and Roma constitute a 'group of death'.
I think Chelsea would expect to win against at least 2/ 3 there.

24 Aug 2017 17:52:14
Spartak Moscow
Sevilla
Liverpool
Maribor

Spartak will be difficult because of the distance and they are a good team

Sevilla are always hard to beat and a bit of a bogey team for us.

Maribor should be an easy 6 points as long as we concentrate and the journey isn't too bad either.

Not the best we could have hoped for (United) but also certainly not the worst (Spurs)

Think we have done alright there. Don't fancy Spurs chances. That's a tough group.

When you see the draw of Spurs, City and Chelsea. We are lucky this time.

24 Aug 2017 18:01:31
I reckon we finish second in the group at least. Reckon we beat sevilla and maribor, moscow is hot and miss.

24 Aug 2017 18:39:11

Can my man was great last night. Mane and firminho were brilliant but I hope this is the season where he comes into his own. He's got all the ability to be top class. I thought we needed a midfielder and I still think we do but I hope can stays fit and has a great season alongside Henderson. The lads capable of being a 20 goal midfielder.
My favourite player however last night was young Arnold. Yes he made a few defensive mistakes but what a breath of fresh air he is. Excellent going forward last night. Only 18. Has plenty of time to improve defensively.

24 Aug 2017 16:22:00
So big vvd it's Thursday and the big man isn't a Liverpool player. I don't see any further movement in the transfer market at all. I think Mr K will bring through youngsters like Kent and Woodburn obvs TAA is already in. If he does send any of those out on loan and we don't sign anyone though I'll wonder what he's shmoking!

Getting this feeling sadly too. Shame as we will struggle over the course of the season unless we are extremely fortunate with injuries.

24 Aug 2017 16:20:35
Krychowiak would be an ideal addition to the midfield I think. Allt cheaper than Keita and more of the type of player we need. Proper anchor to let Emre / wiji / Lallana / Henderson / couts (🙏🏽) run riot with our front three. Him plus Virgil would tighten us up no end I think. Although I think it's more our style that has us conceded so many but the signing would help.

Great result last night! One more huge game to go b4 the international break that everyone hates. Fingers crossed we can strengthen the side in this time and be ready for the City game after the break.

Looks like we are going to stay firm on Coutinho which is great news but like most in here it's Migolet, Lovren and Moreno that worry me. Think we are stuck with our keeper but let's hope we can at least get a quality centre back in. Once Robertson is fully fit I can't see Moreno being 1st choice . Thanks god! Clyne also an option st left back if required.

YNWA.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

24 Aug 2017 16:45:01
Was at the game last night he was a little out of position a couple of times and a couple of poor deliveries from set pieces but I think he had an ok game other than that. I think he needs confidence, that comes from support. He certainly wasn't as bad as Wiji last night.

24 Aug 2017 16:47:10
Not everyone.

There are people on here who embrace the England thing, inckuding flying them cheesy little flags out of their fiesta window and wearing the St George shorts and matching hat.

24 Aug 2017 15:59:12
Strange how people see the wrong done and not the good. Migs made a few mistakes. Punching the ball out incident was imo not his fault. 2 players in front of him got to the ball first. The fumble was his fault. Most guys are harsh on him a bit too much. Made quite a few good goal scoring saves and no one says anything about it. Yes he can improve and can every player in the team. Just my 2 pence worth.

Believable7 Unbelievable1

24 Aug 2017 16:05:26
Simon Mignolet is an average keeper.

24 Aug 2017 16:08:10
He is a goalkeeper. He is meant to make goal scoring saves, that's his job. That said, Mignolet is no world beater but, in my opinion he is still better than our other 2 keepers.

24 Aug 2017 16:14:51
His positioning and decision making for their second was dreadful in my opinion. He couldn't even dive because he was back peddling to the goal line as the header came in. Nobody else seems to have noticed how poor his starting position was. Perhaps I'm just being harsh but for me, he got it all wrong and made what should have been a comfortable save look unstoppable simply by being miles out of position.

24 Aug 2017 16:22:58
Microscopic improvement is still improvement and that's what we've seen In Migs. I can live with that if Klopp thinks he's the man
Lovren on the other hand is getting worse. That's when I want to see him replaced.

24 Aug 2017 16:42:20
I think individually Migs, Moreno or Lovren would perhaps be OK in a solid settled defence, but together they inspire confusion and panic in each other and the team.

I think we need to change at least two of these and my picks would be Lovren and Moreno (for Robertson) first, then gradually look to integrate either Karius or Ward through the season.

I actually think part of Lovrens problem is he's not a LCB, he's always looked a lot more comfortable at RCB when he's played there.

24 Aug 2017 16:49:02
MK. Yiu do have a point. Sometimes you have to make a late desicion to go for the ball. Which I think he did. Should have called it but Matip had to defend against the oponent. Think everyones too harsh on that particular incident.

24 Aug 2017 16:51:26
Many were saying he was the next best thing - a keeper with a new passion and desire, and that he had suddenly become this all saving, corner punching, mouthy authorative keeper.

Haha.

He isn't good enough, but lay off him at least as the line of defence in front of him is poor and is forever being tweaked and changed, which the manager should soak up a majority of that blame.

24 Aug 2017 17:40:38
Lay of the team lads.
Hoffenheim finished 4th in the Bundesleaga and are no Mugs.

LFC blew them away in the first half.

Every Champs league match is going to be the same, if we can't force the team into an error well up the pitch which Klopp advocates, then there is bound to be defensive frailties because of this high press.

Its car crash football but addictive.

Come on the reds.

24 Aug 2017 15:46:38
Question for Ed01

Out of all the hundreds of possible targets that have been bounced about recently, or possible names that haven't, who would you have liked to see come into the squad (realistic targets only) and then what would be your ideal lineup assuming your preferred players had come in?

NB - this is in no way trying to gain information on transfers - this is hypothetical only. I would just like to know what players/ line ups you would like to see at LFC?

Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - line ups isn't really my thing, as the team would vary depending on opposition if it was up to me. For all people say don't tinker etc, let them worry about us etc, even the greatest of them all, Sir Bob Paisley used to change his tactics and players depending on opponent.

However I would have liked to see us sign Koulibaly. He is not ideal, but he is big, strong and fast, plus he is very used to playing a high line and concentrates well. He is a bit lacking technically, still a bit raw, but technique can be refined more easily than the wrong mentality.

Other than that, I have to be honest I think four signings is plenty, especially as 3 will be in the team and there is likely to be another change, in terms of Clyne out for either Gomez or TAA, so the team will lose all its togetherness if you buy more.}

24 Aug 2017 15:59:05
Thanks Ed, appreciate you taking time to answer 👍🏻.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate.}

24 Aug 2017 16:23:25
Agree with this Ed although if Couts does go I'd like to see someone like Insigne or Keita come into midfield. I'm not convinced Milners best position in the midfield and losing Coutinho means we're pretty thin on creativity, particularly with Lallana injured.

24 Aug 2017 16:53:08
We're all fairly glad we signed mane despite his mentality so sometimes it's worth the risk.

24 Aug 2017 17:12:06
I'm all for giving players are chance to settle, especially if they're young and come from abroad but migs isn't young, wasn't new to the league and been with us close to 4 years. Is he going to improve much more than where he's at? The only player who's done that is Lucas but he was young, foreign and had to adapt to a new position so he neede more time. Migs has been keeper his entire life!

24 Aug 2017 17:45:45
Apparently ED. The only player Paisley tried to do a man marking role on was Alan Ball and it failed miserably.

Its in his autobiography, I highly recommend it.

A brilliant book about a brilliant, quietly spoken, decent genius of a man.

{Ed001's Note - he was the greatest of all time.}

24 Aug 2017 15:42:20

Dont get me wrong i like VVD as he has all the attributes to became a top cb but why anyone isn't concerned about his fittnes level? and he is expected to go straight to fire to fix our defending problem? he hasn't properly trained whole summer, he was not part of saints preseason and he behaved badly he could do same thing to us when let's say real comes calling. and as ed001 said he still has positioning problems and isn't a leader. i think we should try koulibaly watched lot of napoli they are probably side that play closest style to us and he looks very good there and is very dominant in the air something we clearly miss, and what a burst of pace he has! i know Napoli are hard to negotiate but we offered way bellow in our first offer as ed002 reported.

24 Aug 2017 14:46:54
At first I wanted to keep couts but think now it would be best to let him go. But only if we can get a replacement ie Draxler, kovacic or keita plus a CB. If not he needs to stay after all its couts and his agent who has caused this mess.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

24 Aug 2017 16:15:29
We must keep him otherwise other lfc player will copy what Cout doing and do the same next windows.
Those who want Cout to leave they have thier own agenda to weaken the team so that will fail to compete for title.

Afternoon Ed001 if you're around

Seemingly priced out of a move, clubs moved on to other targets, still collecting his wages every week.

What would you do to try and resolve the situation at this stage?

Cheers in advance.

2: Do you expect him to see out his contract at Arsenal?

Your answer is appreciated as always.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - (1) I am not aware of anything changing - there is interest but Arsenal want to keep him, but he is reluctant to discuss a new contract. (2) No, I expect it to be resolved one way or the other.}

24 Aug 2017 15:05:29
Can anyone see Ox getting many starts if he did come in. I know game time is 1 of the issues regarding his Arsenal standoff.

24 Aug 2017 15:59:57
Yes tbh I can see him gettig game time either in the centre were Lallana plays or covering on the wing. Good move imo.

24 Aug 2017 14:13:28
Ed sorry for such an idiotic question but is having debt good?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - No. My advice is to avoid debt if you can. Clear your credit cards each month. Don't gamble. Spend money within your means.}

24 Aug 2017 14:22:09
Great advice ed. Saint ed.

24 Aug 2017 14:28:00
Unless you're buying a house and can easily afford your mortgage even if rates go up. or perhaps if Emma Watson mistakes you for Richard Brandon and you need to you need to rent Necker Island for a few weeks after she's accepted your invitation to visit.

Besides that agree with Ed.

24 Aug 2017 14:28:43
Good advice ed002, never owed a penny in my life, it made getting a mortgage harder though, "what do you mean you've never had any dept? Always lived within my means. What about car finance? Nope, always bought cars with cash. "Don't you even have a credit card? " Yep, had one 10 years and never used it.
No wonder the financial crisis happened when they look at someone with shed load of dept and see them as a better mortgage prospect than someone with 30 years of perfect financial health.

24 Aug 2017 14:33:33
Agree 100% Mikey only debt I've ever had was buying my house. but then I have met Emma yet.

25 Aug 2017 01:19:20
Not for me edds for football clubs for their profit and all😂😂😂.

{Ed002's Note - Then I don'y know what you mean. Liverpool would obviously rather not have the debt it has - it is the same for other clubs.}

24 Aug 2017 13:51:02
Eds, Mr. Jurgen was talking at the press conference yesterday after the game, hinting that our transfer buisness may Well not be over just yet. Take this with a pinch of salt Im guessing? Cheers in advance.

{Ed002's Note - I have never suggested it is over.}

24 Aug 2017 14:19:05
I think it's always been clear that we are trying to get more players in. Getting it done, unfortunately, is another matter.

24 Aug 2017 14:28:49
Geez. does this ever feel like Groundhog Day to you eds?

24 Aug 2017 13:23:40
Eds n reds. im after some opinons. referring to Mignolet and maybe positions in general, how many games should you give before dropping a player.? Is 4 not good but not bad games enough.? I think probably yes considering the other 2 young options both need their chance as otherwise why keep 3 decent keepers. Having said that, if it was 1 of Ward or Karius that had played the exact same 4 games i would be more willing to give more time then with mignolet. thoughts.?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

24 Aug 2017 14:00:04
We have 3 keepers and Klopp thinks Migs is the best at the moment. End of.

24 Aug 2017 14:00:36
I think 4 games is enough for mugs because he's had almost 4 years to cement that place and every time we see improvement he then regresses. I think we need to make a call and give one of the other 2 a sustained run in the team and stick by them regardless of errors ( at least for a while)

24 Aug 2017 14:01:08
Migs has had more than enough time, let's not forget he was a premier league keeper before we got him so should've been of a certain quality from the off. the other time i'm more inclined to give more leeway. Karius new league etc. Ward first season in the prem.

24 Aug 2017 14:05:07
I would give him (mig) a run of at least 10 games but having said that he's had 3 seasons and barring an ok stint toward the end of last year he has never convinced so personally think ward deserves a chance but possibly will get it in efl cup and see how that goes then maybe a run of games for him. Kauris deserves a go but behind our defence as it is I think most keepers would struggle.

We play very high and that works in other less competitive leagues where the same couple of teams win every game but pl is higher tempo every game as pep is also finding and a balance has to be found. This is imo the reason for conte and morhino success in our league as they sort defending out first and let the flair players do there thing at the other end but neither is so committed to a style to just say let's grind a result out in any specific game!

24 Aug 2017 14:24:23
Wait until we lose.

24 Aug 2017 14:30:26
I would play Karius in a few cup games and if does well then rotate him in. Then play Ward in cup games and if he does well sell Migs.

24 Aug 2017 14:35:01
Looks like we might be bringing in a new centre back and maybe a defensive midfielder, also we have a new left back and TAA is new to the right back position, so I would wait a little bit longer and until the defence is settled in before making a decision either way, I think it would be suicide to play karius again right now with how unpredictable our defence is, it would be like putting him right back into the firing line.

24 Aug 2017 15:09:12
The only cup games (unless you mean CL as well) up until Xmas is the league cup and then that's only 1 game a month and that's if we win them.

24 Aug 2017 15:41:24
This was covered pretty well by ed001 yesterday. Migs form has not been good this season, and this has been made more unacceptable by the fact he has shown that he can perform to the required standard in the latter parts of last season, and let those standards slip. I would give Ward a chance as Karius has not managed to either impress when called upon or displace Migs.

24 Aug 2017 15:43:00
Karius should be given the chance, MIGs is a good shot stopper but he is unreliable under high balls etc. That attempted punch and then catch last night is a perfect example of that and it spreads fear through the team.

24 Aug 2017 12:42:42
Ed02 If you are around mate.

I know we are not looking specifically at any GK atm, But have we ever looked at Butland mate? He is a top player imo. I am sure he must be in the wish list of many big clubs!

Cheers mate!

Believable0 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has three goalkeepers and stopped looking at others early in the year. Pickford and Ruffier were the ones looked at this season.}

24 Aug 2017 13:21:24
We should have bought Butland when he was available at Birmingham, it was obvious then he had a chance of being a top keeper. As it is, I think Ward deserves a chance between the sticks.

24 Aug 2017 12:58:10
Thanks mate!

24 Aug 2017 13:08:18
Possibly asked this in the wrong place on the rumours thread, but have we looked at or would we look at Kasper Schmeichel? (Excuse speaking, on G&T number 3 on hols:)

{Ed002's Note - No.}

24 Aug 2017 13:52:04
Dennis, id have to say that ward could be that top class keeper. But they only have a chance if we pick them.

For instance if we brought buckland he wouldn't of got game time so wouldn't be at the same level he is at now.

Give ward a go is definitley the way to go, however he is behind migs (current first choice) and Karius (klopps personal choice) . Just want to point out this isn't my order but the pecking order as i would expect it to be with klopp at the minute.

24 Aug 2017 14:31:56
I think Ward could be a very very good keeper, his reactions and reflexes are good and he is decent on crosses. What is the worst that could happen?

24 Aug 2017 12:12:37
Ed, have Southampton ever shown any interest in Sakho? Just a thought.
Surely a defender will come in now VVD or another.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - no, they have shown no interest.}

24 Aug 2017 13:06:57
And why should they? He is a head case and has regressed.

24 Aug 2017 13:19:05
Is anyone else showing interest ed or are we pricing him out of a move? Heard west brom interested but price was an issue.

{Ed002's Note - yes, there is interest. Try the search engine.}

24 Aug 2017 14:48:44
Crystal palace are still trying to sign him I think. The sensible thing for LFC to do now would be lower the asking price to around 20-25 million and just get the player of the books.

24 Aug 2017 10:24:03
Are you in Monaco today Ed002? Keep your ears to the ground. Any chance we could have a great bit of gossip?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I arrived late yesterday afternoon and leave very early tomorrow.}

24 Aug 2017 13:38:53
How much are you offering for Coutinho this time Ed002?

24 Aug 2017 12:04:58
Krychowiak PSG - Klopp get your chequebook out. He'd be a steal.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

24 Aug 2017 12:12:46
Mateo Kovacic - Real Madrid, Proper Croatian just like his fellow mates, Modric, Rakitic, Hilllalovic, Coric.

24 Aug 2017 12:20:23
So the criteria for being a good midfielder is to be Croatian? Lovren anyone?

24 Aug 2017 12:26:02
MK
Croatian midfielders YES! They are beautiful on the ball! Class redefined! Vision, technique and skills!

24 Aug 2017 12:28:52
Is Lovren a midfielder? 😉.

24 Aug 2017 12:35:15
Sometimes I suspect Lovren to think so.

24 Aug 2017 12:58:56
Haha sometimes I wonder if you're just trolling everyone Harry.

24 Aug 2017 13:09:22
There goes Harry again, throwing names about like he is trying to prove that he knows players from all over the world. As for Croatian midfielders, Rakitic disagrees with you. He is pants.

24 Aug 2017 13:13:46
Bingo

Rakitic once was a very good midfielder. He is 30 years old now and doesn't have the legs to run around as does Modric! He was very good at Sevilla as well Barcelona when he joined.

24 Aug 2017 14:33:00
I think what Bingo is saying is that right now, Rakitic is pants because he is finished at the top level, on current evidence.

24 Aug 2017 11:50:55
Im completely torn between wishing we get Maribor or Qarabag in the draw.
Also, assuming we keep Couts, Id love it if we draw Barcelona. I would really love it 🙂.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

24 Aug 2017 12:01:39
I want Napoli, Real and Porto! Why play in the biggest competition in the world and hope to face off against Trabzonspor, Ludogorets and Qarabag?

24 Aug 2017 12:01:50
real, psg, liverpool and leipzig.

Liverpool to top the group!

24 Aug 2017 12:07:02
My ideal group for LFC would be Shakhtar, Barcelona, Liverpool and Maribor.
Shakhtar seem the easiest of the Pot 1 lot, Barcelona are due a whopping for treating us like dirt and Maribor are probably the weakest team in the competition. We will have a good chance of finishing top of this group considering Barcelona are on their last legs.

24 Aug 2017 12:07:40
Believe me, your real madrids etc would rather not have Liverpool in pot 3.
None of them will want Us and Spurs in their group and also a good side from pot 2. I'm Expecting a few 'group of deaths'. Bring them on.

24 Aug 2017 12:14:36
I hope for Juventus, Barcelona and Celtic. Yeah and I wouldn't include Coutinho in the CL squad if he stays. Did f**k all to help us qualify.

24 Aug 2017 12:14:40
Liverpool vs Napoli would be a goal fest! Two identical teams who doesn't want to defend 😄😄.

Mertens vs Firmino
Insigne vs Coutinho
Calagon vs Mane
Hamsik vs Can
Allan vs Wijnaldum
Jorginho vs Henderson

What a match!

24 Aug 2017 12:15:54
Any german teams Barcelona and maribor for me.

24 Aug 2017 12:13:32
is there still "country protection"? i. e. can't be drawn in same group as another team from your home federation?

24 Aug 2017 12:20:47
fancy us against any of them on our day, wouldn't want to be a defender playing against us knowing mane and/ or salah can at any moment leave you for dead.

24 Aug 2017 12:21:16
Yes there is aggerdo.

24 Aug 2017 12:23:10
Monaco
Porto
Liverpool
Feyenoord.

24 Aug 2017 12:26:57
That Calagon is meant to be great, Harry. Apparently his washing machines live forever!

24 Aug 2017 12:34:33
Well getting Maribor would be preety awesome, since I live there. What would be the chances to get tickets for away sector if that somehow happens?

24 Aug 2017 13:13:09
I'd prefer a group like this:

Shaktar Donetsk
Porto
Liverpool
APOEL Nicosia.

24 Aug 2017 14:35:44
I'd like Benfica, Borussia Dortmund and APOEL. Could get out of that group.

24 Aug 2017 15:16:30
I want Leipzig and otherwise as easy as possible. We can play the best teams later in the knockout stages.

If we get Leipzig, there will be a ticket (for the away leg) waiting for me in the in the office in Schkopau.

24 Aug 2017 15:17:11
Smegaard, coutinho didn't help us qualify? Nonsense. We played 38 games last season to help us quality and then played 2 games this season. Coutinho helped a great deal, and it's also been refreshing to know we finished the job without him. But to leave him out the squad if he stays is such a strange suggestion. Either sell him or he gets involved.

24 Aug 2017 15:40:58
Smede, I'm pretty sure Coutinho helping Liverpool achieve a top 4 finish last season played a big part in our CL qualification.

24 Aug 2017 11:44:26
So mine and my sons first trip to Anfield was an awesome experience (despite the 7 hour drive up due to accidents and roadworks 😫)

We got to our seats just as YNWA started and that was a spine tingling moment. The first 20 minutes was incredible both the fact we scored 3 and the noise inside Anfield.

One question to regular match goers. after Hoffenheim scored their 2nd, Anfield went very quiet. Is this something that happens at home matches? I know it was a bit nervy but with 10 mins left they needed to score 3 which was incredibly unlikely (even with our defence 😆) so don't think it was purely the crowd being nervous. The singing and the chants just seem to stop and I'm not sure why. We both carried on singing but no-one around seemed to want to join in!

Anyway, aside from that it was a great first match and hoping now to get up there a bit more.

Believable13 Unbelievable0

24 Aug 2017 11:57:54
Hm so the atmosphere was actually pretty bad then?
Lots watching on TV where concerned but wr thought it was because they usually turn down the crowd volume so we can actually hear the commentators.
Usually Anfield is bouncing specially if winning and the atmosphere can be emotional it’s so amazing.
Probably nerves as we all know even a 3 goal lead sometimes isn’t good enough with our defence even with 10 minutes left xD.

24 Aug 2017 12:00:01
Just realized you said "after their second goal" just read it as after their goal xD
What was the atmosphere like for the prior 80 minutes? Was awful on the telly xD.

24 Aug 2017 12:06:58
I felt it was great atmosphere for most of the game, slight lull after the first goal but other than a few minutes then, great right up until the last 10mins.

Others who have been before might say different as they have something to compare it to but I felt most of the game was nice and loud and lots of singing 👍🏻.

24 Aug 2017 12:08:03
Don't get wrong though, I'm not complaining at all, just curious.

I feel lucky we managed to get tickets and my son has been bouncing off the walls for the last week and again this morning 😊.

24 Aug 2017 13:16:01
Hard to truly gauge the atmosphere through a glass screen to be fair.

24 Aug 2017 11:23:27
Liverpool's top scorers this season so far are

Firmino: 2 goals and 2 assists.
Mane: 2 goals and 1 assist.
Salah: 2 goals and 1 assist.
Can: 2 goals and 1 assist.

Who is everyone's prediction to be our top scorer this season? Mine is Mane. Can see him surpassing the 20 mark.

Believable12 Unbelievable0

24 Aug 2017 11:34:51
I'll go for Coutiniho - he'll take 25 free kicks and score from 23 to compliment the 9 goals he will score from open play. So 32 goals in total.

24 Aug 2017 11:45:05
Firmino will because he will be our penalty taker and rack up an extra 10 this season.

24 Aug 2017 12:08:10
Mane for me. Pretty darn clinical for a wide player imo.

24 Aug 2017 12:12:35
Salah I think, he seems to find those poaching positions well and I think over the course of the season that will tip it in his favour.

24 Aug 2017 12:15:57
Philippe Coutinho - He is a red! ❤️.

24 Aug 2017 12:27:36
Bobby Firmino!

24 Aug 2017 14:22:56
Mane, Salah and Firmino all in my fantasy team because I couldn't decide! Probably just edge towards Mane.

24 Aug 2017 11:04:55
Hi eds what gave you made of salahs start to. his liverpool career, thought he gave the ball away cheaply at times but his pace is devastating.

Cheerw.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - that is exactly how I see it. He needs to get his confidence up a bit by knocking a few more goals in and then he will be flying I hope.}

24 Aug 2017 12:11:28
His right foot is non existent and that worries me a little. He waits precious moments shifting the ball onto his left. Also he does seem to be lacking a bit in match sharpness which will no doubt improve as the season progresses.
But there is no doubt we are getting good value for money in Salah. 40 million pounds in today's market is cheap change for a goal scoring wide player.

24 Aug 2017 12:24:02
He is a decent winger who relies on pace and space! He is nothing like Mane who tricks players with his movement as well! Don't shoot me down! I have seen him play a lot at Roma and I know what are his attributes. He also has a very poor first touch!

24 Aug 2017 12:24:02
He is a decent winger who relies on pace and space! He is nothing like Mane who tricks players with his movement as well! Don't shoot me down! I have seen him play a lot at Roma and I know what are his attributes. He also has a very poor first touch!

24 Aug 2017 13:04:57
He doesn't have a poor first touch at all. Yes, he is a bit one footed, bur that's all I will give you there. Quality player, quick footed and quick minded.

24 Aug 2017 13:13:48
Salah is exactly what we needed, IMO and he is showing it. His ability to pass and move, while in stride is amazing coupled with the fact that he is a poacher in the box which is rare for a wide forward. he is still new to the PL right now so I expect him to improve (esp. his first touch) cos he has a fantastic attitude and eagerness to be great.

24 Aug 2017 13:30:18
I think his first touch has been excellent so far, watching him last night and the ball seemed to stick to him like glue.

24 Aug 2017 13:32:21
Poor first touch? Pretty sure I saw him take a goal kick down with a sublime touch in the first half, world class level skill.

24 Aug 2017 13:58:04
Great pace, effective taking on players when there's space to run into (less effective in the tight spaces), perhaps a bit one footed, but has a decent finish.

The most impressive thing I've noticed about him is he follows in every shot. A lot of wingers won't but he puts himself in a lot of positions to score off rebounds, 50/ 50 crosses or GK saves that might spill. I think he'll pick up a lot of his goals like that this year (like when he bundled in Manes chip that was going just wide) . He's a bit of a poacher and that's a pleasant surprise for me.

24 Aug 2017 15:31:52
He makes good runs I think if Phil stays he will pick him out a lot. I also like how he seems to pop up in the around the 6 yard box looking for scraps it's something we've been missing.

24 Aug 2017 15:33:51
It's less about pace. It's his positional sense.

He will bang 15 in this season no worries.

Manes mane as you said

Firmino when teams play open is the best in the world for me at doing what he did last night. Unfortunately as has been shown over a number of seasons, teams just defend against us for fear of what we did to hoff last night. That's why firmino is useless as all his super qualities go when there s no space. For that reason I'm predicting 12 for him and 15 assists, as the big sides will feel firmino rath. Still a good return for a n7nber ten playing up top but not for Liverpool football clubs striker.

24 Aug 2017 15:44:57
Maradona was very one footed!

24 Aug 2017 22:26:03
JW, one of the most one footed players I have ever seen.

24 Aug 2017 11:01:47
Been reading the Mignolet posts below, and got to say that i'm with Ed001 on this. Mignolet showed how good he can be at the back end of last season, but these last couple of games he's reverted to type. If a 6ft plus GK comes out to punch a ball, under no circumstances should he beaten to it, if he is, then the GK has made a mistake. He threw some stupid balls out yesterday, one to moreno which nearly cost us a goal.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

24 Aug 2017 11:13:37
The balls he punches he should be catching.

24 Aug 2017 11:26:05
Nothing wrong with punching a ball. Often its a safer option than going for a catch over several players heads.

24 Aug 2017 11:45:26
As long as you punch it into next week!

24 Aug 2017 12:19:34
Catch the ball and the attack is over. Punch the ball and we're still under threat as his punches go anywhere. The guy is 6ft 4 and with his wing span and jump he should easily be clearing any striker jumping. If it's coming at him like a bullet fair enough but he attempts to punch everything.

24 Aug 2017 12:47:32
Rubbish.

A goalkeeper is given the honour of being able to use his hands properly, so catch the ball he should.

What is so hard about doing that?

At the end of the day, if a keeper can't catch, its either because they are crap or are terrified of the players around them.

24 Aug 2017 13:15:49
GK's are no longer coached to catch balls anymore. They are now coached to get a good fist on them. That is the way it is now so we all have to deal with it, I suppose. As for Migs, he has reverted to the old Migs that has plagued us for years now up until late last season.

24 Aug 2017 13:39:01
The other keepers in the premier league have no issue catching the ball. Obviously they're not listening to the new way of coaching 🤔.

24 Aug 2017 15:32:57
He's been here long enough to show that he's not good enough for us, and should be moved on or dropped. I really hope Karius is given another run in the first team.

24 Aug 2017 22:27:38
ScouserRob don't worry. he will pilloried by Carra and the pathetic manc next to him on Sky as soon as he mis-controls a back pass.

24 Aug 2017 10:28:19
Hi Ed, can we expect some transfer business this week? Now that we've qualified for the champions league group stages I hope we keep hold of Can. I think he is about to hit his prime.

Cheers jah.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - we were intent on doing business anyway regardless.}

24 Aug 2017 10:42:11
Champions League isn’t Cans problem, he wants to be a guaranteed starter for most/ all games he is fit for.
He will definitely want to start CL games as well and will become even more unhappy if he misses any.

24 Aug 2017 10:55:20
If Can wants to start games then he needs to play well enough to be picked.
If Keita comes in he will have to try and push hendo or wijnaldum out the team, at the moment he is first choice midfielder for me, it's up to him to keep improving and playing to a high standard.

24 Aug 2017 10:55:59
He is good enough to start and seems to be getting better all the time.

24 Aug 2017 10:52:21
This week Jah? Its Friday tomorrow mate lol.

Anything/ anyone new ed or is it as we were.

24 Aug 2017 11:06:04
Now that we've qualified we should expect a surge of activity in the property market😏.

24 Aug 2017 11:25:23
Don't get his attitude of I want guaranteed game time. Surely if you're consistent on a weekly basis it's a given you'll be one of the first names on the team sheet. If you're playing badly why should you demand to be picked. These footballers and their egos. It's simple to me, do your job well and get picked and well paid for it. Do you're job poorly then don't expect to be picked and look elsewhere.

24 Aug 2017 11:40:21
Jimble - our bids for Keita unsettled him iirc, he looked at it as 'if we are spending 70mil on a player in my position, there is no way he will be second fiddle'

24 Aug 2017 12:13:17
I'd have Hendo, Can and Keita as our first choice midfield if Coutinho leaves and Keita signs. If Can plays well enough, he should be first choice without doubt.

24 Aug 2017 12:17:57
Jimble

Nothing to do with his ego man. Can is guaranteed of a starting place at Juventus! All he wants is the same guarantee at Liverpool!

24 Aug 2017 13:20:28
If he can start at Juve (a much better team than LFC, clearly) then he should be able to start for LFC whether Keita signs or not. He saw Keita and maybe the Ox being sounded out and thought that if he is not going to get a chance to start then why not assess his options? What's wrong with that? Brandt did the exact same thing and I supported Brandt's decision as he was honest about maybe not being able to make the jump to a big club just yet so what's wrong with Can doing it? I back his decision to stay or go whatever it becomes.

24 Aug 2017 15:34:01
Klopp said it best players current and new want reassurances of cl. Well isn't it the likes of can and coutinho job to get us in the cl.

Think his hysterical when they want to just be bought for it and not earn it. The likes of ali and kane are taking there teams there but out players expect it.

24 Aug 2017 15:35:27
I'm not being a prisoner of the moment, but seriously, can you really make an argument that keeps can out of the starting line-up? He has been in great form incl omens of last season.

24 Aug 2017 10:10:47
Good morning ed001

Well whst a performance last night mate. I now have a saw throte like you and will try the Ginger Tea fix lol.

Defence still a little suspect but we are aware who he wants and hopefully we will get him.

What was clear last night is that both Can and Gini got into more forward positions, the Palace game this did not happen almost like Klopp told them to sit in the middle. Do you think this was a plan last night to get them involved further forward?

We have to keep hold of Emre mate, do you know were we are at with the situation in his contract? You said he wants game time and is aware of Keita a possible arrival but that does now not seem like happening with a week left in the window meaning he should play almost every game given the injury to Lallana?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - yes, I believe the players were instructed to get forward more and put pressure on the Hoffenheim backline, which was suspect.

He is still considering his options. No idea what he will do but I hope he stays.}

24 Aug 2017 10:27:01
Fair enough mate. Cheers for reply.

24 Aug 2017 11:02:21
Hope he stays too, has potential to be a huge player for us and provides a physicality we lack without him in the side, I hope the club make him an offer he can't refuse.

24 Aug 2017 15:29:25
Not sure VVD is the answer to the defence problem to be honest. As many including the eds have said, he's often found out of position, and doesn't bust a gut to get back. As much as I like Klopp, have to question his and the previous few managers defensive and goalkeeper training. On our day were as good as anyone going forward, but all to often as bad as anyone in defence. I think the coaching side of it needs to improve no matter which defenders are brought in. Also have to say out midfield can all to easily be cut through if the high press fails.

24 Aug 2017 09:41:11
No player is ever bigger than the football club!

We should accept a huge bid from Barcelona if forthcoming. It's not as if LFC haven't benefited from PC.

Let the lad move on, he wants to go so let him! Players come and go - end of! No point LFC playing high n mighty - we are guilty of own misdemeanours in the transfer market.

I don't think PC is the villain in this at all - yes he hasn't covered himself in glory especially after how he committed his long term future to us in Jan - but equally the club shouldn't paint him out to be a villain as an excuse to accept an offer from
Barca.

He isn't worth over £100m anyway - the amount of times he has gone missing in games is more than we think when analysed - he's had 2 good seasons at best!

Ergo - LFC make a tidy profit and buy a couple of top players, Barcelona happy they'll get their target and PC happy he can play for the club of his desire.

Football players are transient commodities - the club is always there - it's the club we support not the individual players - and it's just business that he wants to move.

Believable5 Unbelievable8

24 Aug 2017 09:53:08
who exactly are those couple of top players? this late in transfer window with everyone knowing we have the money? with clubs realising they don't need to sell and that only sky is the limit in terms of fees. no thanks. cou can go to Barcelona once we buy 2 class players like keita and VVD and find his replacment and seems that club is doing that!

24 Aug 2017 09:54:55
The reality is that He is a great player but by no means world class at this point. I have no problem selling him if we can replace him but the fact is we can't so tough.

24 Aug 2017 09:57:54
Considering he signed 4 years ago, considering his wages, bonuses etc I'd question if his quoted original fee and making more than that has any real relevance other than to fans. If the club can afford to turn down what it has and can make bids quoted for Keita etc plus afford the potential wages, it would seem the club is fine financially at the moment (assuming those running it aren't total idiots) .

24 Aug 2017 09:58:25
Then don't sign a 5yr contract! Southampton and Leipzig have shown us the way! If you want to improve you build on what you have. If a player wants a move then the club needs adequate time to find replacement. This has all been said many times this summer. Your lengthy post trying to justify the sale of one of our best players to one of our champions league rivals is baffling. Let the club decide when and who to sell. It's their money so when fans decide what is a tidy profit it makes me laugh!

24 Aug 2017 10:00:49
If we keep Coutinho our chances of winning trophies is higher. Trophies attract quality players.

24 Aug 2017 10:10:15
We don't have enough time to buy those top players you are dreaming unless you pay way way over the tops! More
Over there is a good bunch of KNOWLEDGEBLE fans outside who will take this opportunity to riot against the owners! This is complicated!

{Ed002's Note - other clubs have time, is the transfer window closing early for Liverpool?}

24 Aug 2017 10:13:38
Move on M06, what will be will be, we have more things to worry about than Couts' future 😜.

24 Aug 2017 10:33:22
I agree that no player is bigger than the club. However we have shown that we have not prepared for Coutinho leaving even though we have had the time to do so. Regarding his lack of consistency, he is still a relatively young player a couple of years away from his prime and he seems to gain more consistency each season. That said I agree we should not keep an unhappy player but if he can be swayed to stay and give his all then I feel he will be invaluable to us this season.

24 Aug 2017 10:34:01
10 goals scored in 4 games. If only we had Coutinho to end this goal drought 🙄

Let him leave. Sign a centre back and let' do this!

24 Aug 2017 10:43:29
We've seen with Barcelona how much clubs increase transfer fees when you have the money.
If we sell PC, yes we'll have £130m+ but whoever we buy to replace or strengthen the squad will come at a higher price anyway.
We won't benefit from selling him. Keep him. Add to the squad as we were hoping to do anyway and challenge for trophies this season. Let him go next season.

24 Aug 2017 11:05:58
If the bid is £80m up front and £30m over three years plus clauses based on champions league appearances then I would go for it and sell him, then go and make the big bucks bids for Keita and Van Dijk, bring in Insigne to like-for-like replacement for him and then let's just get on with things.

24 Aug 2017 10:21:01
Ed02, Do you think 7 days are enough for us to find a replacement. Negotiate and sign him! 😳 Considering how slow we are in negotiations!

{Ed002's Note - Of course. Other clubs are doing a great deal of business and there are significant transfers in hand. Even as I type there are club representatives meeting agents and other clubs today.}

24 Aug 2017 15:26:15
Come on man. In the fierce competition that is the premier league, we are going to need every competitive advantage we can get, and Coutinho is one of those. Lallana is also out till November, so having a creative and lethal outlet from midfield isn't such a bad idea either.

Make a tidy profit so we can buy players? We don't need the profit to buy players! We were already happy to spend 70m on Keita before a bid for Coutinho even came in! Why use that money to find players like Coutinho when we already have him?!

24 Aug 2017 15:27:10
Turan is available again.

24 Aug 2017 08:49:47
Morning Eds and reds.

Question for Ed1: do you think Klopp sees how dodgy Mignolet is? If so, how long before he gives Karius or Ward a chance?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - yes he knows Migs is dodgy, which is why he bought Karius but he is loath to drop him as last time the crowd gave Karius pelters for the slightest thing.}

24 Aug 2017 09:22:19
I would give ward a start, looks solid every time I've seen him.

24 Aug 2017 09:23:15
We should have signed an experienced pair of hands! I clearly don't understand this " Young potential who'll
Improve in X years. " philosophy at times! Doesn't always work!

24 Aug 2017 09:41:32
We have a perfectly good keeper in Ward. Why not try him before he gets annoyed and asks to leave due to false promises been given?

24 Aug 2017 09:53:08
Most keepers peak in their late 20's early 30's.
Bonkers to buy keepers so young IMO.

24 Aug 2017 10:01:04
What experienced top level keeper is available or was last summer? None that would have changed things enough. Clemence, Grobelaar and Reina were all bought at similar age to Karius (Clemence even younger) . Oddly that worked out ok despite shaky starts for the last 2.

24 Aug 2017 10:16:20
We had a young keeper in Ward and I believe it was stupid to buy another Young potential. Should have brought an experienced and allowed Ward to develop alongside. What we have now is three young keeper all wants first team actions!

24 Aug 2017 10:30:36
Ward deserves a chance. Karius is worse than migs he hardly stopped a shot when he was number 1.

24 Aug 2017 11:08:46
Talking out your backside their Fowler Karius was decent when he started, then made a few mistakes and quality fans like yourself absolutely tore into him increasing the pressure/ reducing the confidence even more. The lad needs games but, perhaps more importantly, needs the backing of the fans. As a collective we do seem to pick on certain players and give them extra amounts of grief for no particular reason: Lucas was terrored when he first arrived, Sturridge is contantly criticised for having the audacity to be injured, Moreno is ripped into constantly (and he may not be the best player but he puts in 100% every time), Karius was lynched for the first couple of mistakes he made - I think our attitudes as fans need to change a little if we want to see the best out of the players.

24 Aug 2017 11:18:18
Regardless of who Klopp chooses to play, if it isn't going to be Ward, I hope he'll let the boy go somewhere else to play. He has been building his career/ confidence steadily over the years. His career shouldn't stagnate because Klopp can't make a decision.

24 Aug 2017 08:45:21
Glad to see Ed01 saying it how it is. Mignolet has regressed and is still utter garbage in my view - hoping ward or Karius gets a chance. Lovren similarly is a liability. Both are mistakes waiting to happen which will cost us as the season goes on.

That being said, some standout performers last night. I just want to ask Eds, given we have qualified for the CL now do you see Emre Can signing a new contract? He was immense last night and controlled the midfield. Klopp alluded to contracts in the post match interview without being specific.

If you get time to do a brief transfer overview in the build up to the window closing im sure we'd all be grateful! Cheers as always Eds!

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I don't know what will happen with Can, his head might well have been turned by Juve's interest but all he wants is first team football. I will try and get time to do so.}

24 Aug 2017 09:20:01
If that's all he wants I would tell him he 1st name on sheet on matchday he a beast of a player.

24 Aug 2017 09:30:43
There is an issue in playing both Hendo and Can in the same team! They are both offensive midfielders yet differerent! Both are defensively suspect and wouid leave space behind them which a good team would easily exploit. Both need to play alongside a Dier or Matic.

If you want to drop Henderson to that role then you ll loose the 4th goal which he set up for Firmino!

24 Aug 2017 09:43:17
I like can as a player and i do believe he has huge potential and will hopefully stay. The problem i have with him currently as he is still hit and miss. He will always get cards, can be rash to pass and misplace his direction, but i agree we should try hard to keep him.

24 Aug 2017 10:02:44
I think Can is still suffering from being viewed as able to fill in for many positions.

24 Aug 2017 09:05:56
Firstly we are simply breathtaking when we are at our best.

I wanted to discuss Lovren, who has always had similar lapses in concentration as Moreno but this season is head seems to have gone completely. I think, unlike Moreno, Lovren has seen his place under threat and lost his head (Moreno has clearly been working on his all round game, still needs more discipline though) . We tried protecting Karius when he made a couple of mistakes and the same needs to happen with Lovren.

I really don’t want to jump on players as we should support the team and I do think Lovren is a good defender, the lads heads just dropped and needs to get it together as against better teams it could cost us.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

24 Aug 2017 09:21:21
Why do you want to protect Lovren in the first place! He needs replacing and not protecting. Karius is raw while Lovren is 30 years old international!
Lovren makes two mistakes every game. One he gets away from it and the other he takes a card or concedes a goal! This is a similar scene from 3 years!
I am sorry droping him to to bench is not suddenly going to make him a Maldini.

Moreno was always an offensive full back and if you expect him to be a good defender then you are wasting our precious time on it. All he could improve is his offensive attributes which he has improved considerably!

I am amazed how Matip gets away from criticism! I agree with Ed01, He can't head a ball! He is slow to react and he don't open his mouth!

24 Aug 2017 09:33:47
Harry, because he is a liverpool player and if we have injuries we may need him so drop him (ideally with a new CB) .
I also never said he would become a great defender by dropping him.

Again I never said Moreno can defend but you have to regconise the effort the kid is clearly putting in to improve.

As for Matip it is similar to the 'two girls theory' one lass will hang round with another who is less good looking (Lovren) to make themselves (Matip) look more attractive. Hence why currently Matip is getting far less stick then Lovren.

24 Aug 2017 09:42:01
I'll discuss Lovren. He's poo. End of discussion.

24 Aug 2017 10:18:02
Onceared

So we both agree we need 2 CB's. 😄.

24 Aug 2017 10:18:33
To be honest, I see a lot going on about Lovren, but Matip was terrible. He seemed slow, weak and totally out of position (Lovren was marking Wagner and another when they scored) . I don't know if this is something to do with being partnered with Lovren but he wasnt good at all last night. Did anybody else think this?

24 Aug 2017 11:11:44
I think they are both average players and, when pairing them up it makes for a pretty weak defensive unit. They also work poorly together so rarely look like a cohesive unit. It's just a deadly combination which will lead to goals conceded sadly. Do think Mignolet really unsettles the defence as well though - even the best defenders would be constantly caught in two minds if they were playing in front of Mignolet - the defence starts with the goalkeeper and Mignolet is sadly not up to task.

24 Aug 2017 11:40:40
Another point I would like to mention is last night when Hoffenheim players picked the ball up between our defence and midfield, it looked like (to me) that the midfield and defence didn't know who should be going for it? When the ball is further up the field we close down the opposition straight away, when it gets in between defence and midfield no one closes down? One of the 3 mids jog towards the player and the defence stand looking at the player with the ball. I have seen people on here mention that a DM is needed. maybe its to stop that? Or does it come down to having "leaders" on the pitch who can organise this?

24 Aug 2017 08:49:29
Klopp said he will only buy players who are better than what we've got. So it's hard to find players who will improve our bad defence? I know he wants Van Dijk but what if we don't get him?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

24 Aug 2017 09:10:31
If we don't get him there is other defenders surely too improve defence dominant headers of the ball who can fit in who can give calm instead of panic, but its such a shame if we don't get vvd he is perfect for us really like him.

24 Aug 2017 09:18:22
I don't know why ben gibson isn't getting a shout he is young english and he under the radar look at players like, cahill, smalling, phil jones good players from relatively smaller clubs who proved they can do a good job, matip cryin out for a proper partner.

24 Aug 2017 08:24:57
Was very impressed with their cm last night Dennis Geiger. he was everywhere pulling all the strings for them. think at 19 years of age he has a massive future ahead of him. is he highly rated eds? i know it's the Liverpool page just curious as to if he is sought after? thank you.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - this is his first season, only his second game for the club, so he is a bit of an unknown.}

24 Aug 2017 09:23:18
The thing I noticed about him is his awareness; the way he looks around before he gets the ball so he knows where his next pass is going to be. Parts of his game were a bit rough, and sometimes was a bit aggressive and clumsy in his challenges, but that comes with experience, as Ed said, only his second first team game. Overall though, he looks a good prospect, very highly rated by Hoffenheim.

24 Aug 2017 11:07:57
Thanks ed001 he definitely unknown to me and A. C I agree his awareness was too draw for someone so young. he was dropping deep to collect the ball and he lost possession a couple of times but all in all a very impressive performance. im fairly consistent at picking out future stars (coutinho, kovacic and veratti) so I think this one could be one to watch.

24 Aug 2017 08:16:44
Don't think we are that far away from having that team we dream of. 3 or 4 players is all that's required maybe world class keeper definitely cent half an a world class Dm but it's getting them in is the problem. Really hope klopp and the owners realise this over next 8 days.
Well done last night you red men outstanding going forward.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

24 Aug 2017 08:51:35
3/ 4 players is all any team needs. It's simple for us though. Identify the weakness (defence) . Buy better players.

24 Aug 2017 08:06:41
Ed001 excellent review mate excellent going forward especially firmino too gud but no discipline in midfield and defence what we can say how lovren gets chance with mignolet every game i don't now if its me mate i would have given chance to ward and gomez but extremely happy with win and waiting from your side a positive update on transfers specially defence
Thanks.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - thank you mate.}

24 Aug 2017 08:34:38
Thank you for the review ed001. It helps novices like me!

24 Aug 2017 07:43:53
Morning Ed. With all the talk of TAA, how do you think Jon Flanagan rates in comparison to the other RB at the club. Do you think he's good enough for Liverpool?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he was before the injury. Unfortunately he has not had a real run of games anywhere to show he can still be good enough, so I can't say for sure.}

24 Aug 2017 08:04:57
How far away is clyne from full fitness eds? Do you think flano will get a run in cup games?

{Ed001's Note - really close mate and no, I expect one of Gomez, TAA or Clyne to get the cup matches.}

24 Aug 2017 08:11:57
Would you say Flanagan is 'sufficient' Ed? 😂.

{Ed001's Note - haha.}

24 Aug 2017 08:14:12
Cheers ed. Its a shame for the lad.

24 Aug 2017 08:40:05
Right back won't be a problem, I just hope Robertson settles well at left back as Moreno must have won a golden ticket to get in the team. Corners and passing terrible, always out of positions. Secretly wants to be a striker. Get rid asap, a liability. I'm sorry but running around a lot does not make a good performance.

24 Aug 2017 08:52:47
Truth is, if he wasn't a local lad he'd probably not even be in the squad. Trent is amazing though.

24 Aug 2017 08:54:00
Moreno needs someone in his ear telling him what to do and reminding him to stay focussed. Since Lovren needs the same, it means Moreno is hung out to dry. Its been noticeable that his efforts are much improved when Milner has been on field near him.

24 Aug 2017 07:42:17
I think Wijnaldum deserves a shout from last night. In the past he's been a bit anonymous even though he does work off the ball. But last night he seemed to be more in the mix and we looked better for it. Great pass to firmino for the third goal.

Believable16 Unbelievable1

24 Aug 2017 07:45:07
Agree - still gave some cheap possession away once or twice but overall a far more combative performance. Whole midfield we're on another level vs last week.

24 Aug 2017 08:13:11
Totally agree I was quite impressed with him last night. Also I don't no what happened to Henderson but he became a player possessed after 70 minutes like his old self before his injury.

24 Aug 2017 07:30:50
Ed 1 how are you pal? What do you see happening between now and the end of the transfer window with our Goalkeepers, do you see Karius or Ward getting a chance soon?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I do not see anything happening with them. Ward is unhappy, Karius is unhappy and Mignolet is out of form. Until Migs makes a rick that costs a goal, I think Klopp will stick with him now. Unfortunately. I would like him to be proactive and give Ward his chance.}

24 Aug 2017 07:47:12
I just don't understand what happened wit Karius - a couple of mistakes and his career was over suddenly? Fair enough Migs stepped up end of last season but clearly not the long term answer so why we're not giving one or the other a real chance is a mystery.

24 Aug 2017 08:04:17
There are so many games still left in the season. This would test Klopp's man management skills.
But personally, i think Ward should be allowed to go on loan, not just for the club's sake, but for his as well. it must be a real let down to go from premiership promotion to bench warmer.

24 Aug 2017 08:10:17
Migs has gone backwards again unfortunately. I was listening to the phone in driving back from the match and everyone pretty much saying the same.

24 Aug 2017 07:28:09
We not going to resolve the Emre Chan contract saga? Whatever he wants pay him as he is improving game by game and would hate to see him leave.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

24 Aug 2017 07:47:59
I suspect it's more the playing time that's the issue - esp if Keita comes in.

regarding firmino's goal celebration, he really got me confused there, for a moment i thought he was thinking about taking the shorts off! :P.

24 Aug 2017 09:01:23
It is funny every1 time he scores he wants to strip. Haha. Wrong job Mr firmino.

24 Aug 2017 08:57:06
Lovely review. Interesting that you didn't rip Milner. He was terrible. I'm not sure that he completed a single pass and he gave the ball away at least twice in his own half.

{Ed001's Note - that's Milner though, he is not a midfielder so there is little point repeating what I have said every time he plays there.}

24 Aug 2017 10:22:01
Great report Ed, agree in all respects. Especially liked the comment about Mane ripping them a new one! 😂.

24 Aug 2017 05:58:05
Sure that's a good point, i more so meant the way Bale kept moving farther up the field. Seem to see failed wingers going the other way more often, but if we get a solid full back out of him who can complain. All the best to the kid and the eds as well. Thanks for the reply and the site.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I am 100% sure the lad will make it, whatever position he finally settles into he will do well. I would expect it to be more of a central role eventually though personally. Seems to have a good head on his shoulders.}

24 Aug 2017 07:56:45
Who are you on about? Post seems misplaced?

24 Aug 2017 10:39:51
That post is about TAA, Westwood.

24 Aug 2017 15:42:42
Ah thanks!

24 Aug 2017 05:46:33
Ed001

I respect your opinion, but Mignole has actually been okay this season.
He kept us in the tie at Hoffenheim.
The position we should revisit is LCB where we have Lovren who's good in the opposition box, but shocking in his.

Do you reckon we'll try and buy a CB?

Thanks, have a nice day.

Believable2 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - I am sorry but okay is lower half of Prem level, if you are happy with that then that's fine, but I grew up watching David James and Migs is as dodgy as he was. He is far too nice and has no fire in his belly, he gives the defence the jitters. If your keeper is dodgy, then so is your defence in front of him, no matter how good the players are. A good keeper breeds confidence in the rest of the team.

I have answered this question just last night and every day since the window opened. Yes we want to sign a centre back.}

24 Aug 2017 07:07:34
Migs is okay and that is about that. Most outfield player esp. defenders hate GK's cos they are a pain in the behind, always barking orders and yelling at their defenders. But that is expected as defenders tend to switch off and it is his job to keep them on their toes and keep them concentrated. What is not expected is for a GK to be "nice". Trust me, they are not nice on the pitch. pitch, for sure.

24 Aug 2017 07:24:13
Ed001 is correct about Migs, although bottom half of prem is a tad generous.

24 Aug 2017 07:25:27
Are you kidding me? You must have been watching the game on your Nans black and white TV with a coat hanger for an aerial because Mignolet was shocking last night.

For the first goal his positional sense and agility not to get to ground quick enough was appalling. The lad burst into the box at pace, the ball was moving at pace and on his right could have only put it across the face of goal into the far corner. Anyone with half a football brain could see that.

For the second, he should be putting those 2 centre forward into the second tier of the Anfield Road end and command his 6 yard box, instead he just stood there and let Lovren try and deal with both of them. For the likes of De Gea, Coutois and Lloris, that is bread and butter stuff.

He flapped at everything, dropped a ball at the second attempt of trying to catch it, like a puppy with a bouncy ball, kept passing the ball to his CB's and putting them instantly under pressure and his distribution philosophy is just "put the laces through it" like a Sunday league keeper.

Hoffenheim are a relatively inexperienced up and coming team and if that was a half decent premier league side they would have made us pay last dearly last night.

Danny Ward must be wondering what he has to do to get in the nets before that clown. He is without a doubt the Achilles heel of the team.

{Ed001's Note - maybe he is just a big fan of Pater Kay? Only I swear he shouts "'ave it!" when kicking the ball....}

24 Aug 2017 07:41:46
ED001, I am working in Scotland at the moment and couldn't get to the game last night, but I have started taking a cushion to the pub with me so I can hide behind it every time he is within 10 yards of the ball.

How he is still at the club is beyond me, and to think Begovic went to Bournemouth fir £10m in this window is frustrating, we should have been all over that to fill the gap, even for this season.

{Ed001's Note - I agree, but we should have made sure to get him the moment he left Stoke.}

24 Aug 2017 09:41:45
I grew up watching David James too and that guy cost Liverpool a prem title or 2, him and Mike Hooper, Jesus.

24 Aug 2017 04:25:35

24 Aug 2017 02:32:21
great result still shambolic at the back but it ain't been a bad start to the season only for a last minute goal against watford would of been 4 victories and that's without lallana and coutinho who if Barcelona did offer 138m i would take the money now and move on its not all about coutinho its about L. F. C.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

24 Aug 2017 06:13:52
You don't need ccoitinho coz we beat a team that played highline throughout 90 mts. All we had to do was to put the ball in the vacant area behind their CB's for someone to run? Had they parked the bus the result would have been different!

{Ed001's Note - but they couldn't do that because we beat them last week, so it is irrelevant. We did beat a Palace side at the weekend that parked the bus though.}

24 Aug 2017 06:18:48
Ohk! But that shouldn't make a liverpool fan arrogant and stupid enough to discount what phil brings to the team!
Hoffenheim did not crumble inspite if going 4 down, they played the only football they know! We did not beat palace, one moment of brilliance from Mane did the job!

24 Aug 2017 07:11:30
Harry is spot on. If you want to delude yourself into thinking that we don't need Cou anymore then, have at it but you will be in for a rude awakening as that is not true.

We may be good BUT Cou definitely makes us much better as the preseason clearly showed, end of story. Klopp, FSG and many of our fans know that which is why we are not selling. Why accept to be good when clearly. we can be better? Very myopic thinking, really.

24 Aug 2017 07:27:22
Coutinho is a march winner in the big matches.
Chelsea, Man Utd, City, Arsenal - he generally scores or assists. If we're going to win the title, we need a player like this.

24 Aug 2017 07:53:11
Title 😂😂😂😂.

24 Aug 2017 07:55:38
That's all well and good Ron having a player who can do well in the spring but what about all the other months of the season.?!

24 Aug 2017 08:17:54
Wolf, if you think Cou is inconsistent then you are not looking at the finer details. Players lose form during the season and that is normal so don't get why this is a criticism?

Now, if the opposing team is literally changing the way it defends against you just cos you have one player on the pitch? Then, it does not matter if he scores or not cos right there, he is already having an impact and he has not even touched the ball yet. Cou is often marked by two players when he has the ball but many don't see it cos he is supremely talented and able to get out of tight spaces so we all take it for granted.

Trust me, his mere appearance on the pitch is enough. Same w/ Bobbie. He may not score BUT he is a nightmare for the opposition. Just take a look at last night. Even if he did not score, he would have been MOTM cos he single-handedly terrorized their defence.

24 Aug 2017 08:49:35
Bingored, Wolf didn't mean he was inconsistent, he was making a joke about the other poster typing 'march' instead of 'match'

Nice lengthy rant though.

24 Aug 2017 00:51:22
Hey ed 001, remember you saying something about the club not knowing where Trent would end up playing on the field. Are they set on developing him as a fullback or is there still hope he could move forward. I hope he doesn't feel the pressure too much but man if he developed like Bale.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - nothing is set in stone with him, he is in at fullback because there is a gap there, but he could easily end up in midfield. He won't end up like Bale, he doesn't have that devastating turn of speed to get him away from defenders.}

24 Aug 2017 04:47:50
Bale's pace is truly something to behold. But, to the point, TAA should focus on being TAA instead of anyone else. He looks a promising talent but he still has a lot to learn! Only one way to go though and that's up!

24 Aug 2017 06:15:01
He is defensively suspect. We need to pay a proper CDM.

24 Aug 2017 06:32:41
Outside of you deciding otherwise, why isn't Hendo a CDM? He wins heaps of ball, breaks up play, gets t. v. through as many kms as anyone, sets up others to create. Tidies up loose stuff. What more do you want?

24 Aug 2017 06:42:03
'Gets through. '. Not sure about t. v.

24 Aug 2017 08:08:40
Andy, Harry is hooked on just saying "CDM" without ever mentioning how effective a CDM would be in our system. A natural CDM won't work due to the high-intensity we play with hence, you a need a #6 like Hendo who can not only break up play, but can press high up, cover the gaps when the FB's get forward and offer assists when possible. he has now 5 assists since last season at the #6 position. Not bad, eh?

24 Aug 2017 09:12:58
Harry does have very fixed and limited views on players and positions. That being said, I certainly have my biases as well.

A few thoughts from the game

- Brilliant performance to blow them away in first 20mins, hats off lads
- Mane was exceptional again, quickly becoming our talisman
- Bobby Firmino was just as good IMO, his link play and his leading the press was exceptional, we look a completely different side with his energy upfront
- I love the way Salah follows in every shot, think he's going to snag a few that way
- We continue to prove we can score plenty without Coutinho but I still hope he returns, will need him at some point this season
- Hendo looking to come back into form, Can had a great game too. midfield looked a lot more composed than the first leg. Gini mixed but much better than his first couple of games
- Defence had a few few wrinkles but have to give credit where it's due, overall decent performance and TAA continues to grow into the role

Well done Reds. into the CL proper with a really dominant performance.

23 Aug 2017 23:50:15
I feel like it'd be a nightmare to lose Can on a free at the end of the season. Showing his quality now he's completely free from his niggles. If couts stays I can't see him taking Cans spot currently so I'd guess Gini will drop out. Hendo is also looking nearer to his best which is grand. Just need to get lovren sorted as he was sloppy again tonight!

24 Aug 2017 00:48:23
We won't lose Emre because he is important in our team can play with coutinho and in the role of Henderson and can cover center back and right back if needed. And if because of competition of places make him go then he will never be a top player because competition exist in every top team and it will make you better always. Running away is never the solution.

It was good to see him start ahead of Milner. He was very effective.

Agree very effective but I also think he seemed to sit a little deeper and let Gini take on more work further up the pitch, so they were less under each other's feet. We also had far more control of the midfield with him closer to Hendo a lot of the time.

Didn't stop him looking dangerous though, if anything he was more dangerous as his late runs from deep weren't tracked properly.

Got to get him signed up to a new contract, would be a travesty if he left on a free.

Like Cou, Emre Can should not be allowed to leave LFC, end of. He is growing and maturing into a top player for us. Klopp must get some credit here as well cos he has managed to smoothen his rough edges even tho, more work needs to be done. Give him whatever he want cos he is becoming one of our best players, no doubt.
