How does the likes of Barca B team and Real Madrid B team work? Just a question of curiosity, could the likes of Liverpool reserves become a Liverpool B team like the barca and madrid teams?

FowlerGod. {Ed002's Note - No, it is not allowed in this country. The only thing in Spain that is a restriction is that they are not allowed to play in the same division.}

So if they top the second division where does that lead them to, back to the same league?

yoyoman {Ed002's Note - Right, unless the A team gets relegated.}

The B team can't play above the A team. If the A team gets relegated, so does the B team - even if they win the league!

The rebuilding is over. We have a few games until the end of the season to continue 'gelling'. There are no excuses next season - Brendon will have been given time and money (and three transfer windows) to show his worth and he needs to produce top 4. This was a vaguely successful season as we played some great football using a few kids and lost a number of games we shouldn't have. A European place is still attainable and 5th or 6th would be a decent representation of where we are as a club right now.
Next season there should be no excuses for the team or the manager. The words 'rebuilding' or 'transition' should be meaningless next season, and the phrase 'dominated the opposition but couldn't score' should be confined to history.
Lets finish as high as possible this year and then expect to see BRs master plan come to fruition next season.

Completely agree with this, well said.

Top 4 is a measure of success? I thought trophys were ask any Arsenal fan. I'd rather win a few trophies then get top 4

It is all about winning trophys but the two trophies we want, you need to finish first or top 4 to even enter.

I think Rodgers needs more than just one year

25 Feb 2013 00:25:47
have any of you watch the Elicha Scott honour on lfctv a Player and a true kopite. The man was and is why I love L. F. C. We will rise again but not with spending money on overpriced player's have a look a what is coming through the rank's long term on wards and upwards rome was not built in a day ie swansea look were they were ten year's ago ywna

25 Feb 2013 10:49:10
rodgers need more than one year?. to justify his signing of allen.
I don't understand why people rate him so high as a 18 mill signing.
If you cmpare him with midfielders in the range of 15-20 mill. where does he stand realestically?

when we play without him. gerrard and lucas in Middle. with hendo or countinho or any skillfull player. like mata. silva. we would look so better.

what does allen bring to the game is beyond me?

he might have completed some 100 passed.
But 0 assist. or 0 kilelr passed entire season.

he doesn't move forward.
he can't tackle. nor break up the play. then what does he do? {Ed001's Note - must be why he never managed to get into the opposition area to score a goal against Zenit then, right? If you are too clueless about the game to see what he brings, then you should educate yourself about football.}

25 Feb 2013 11:10:50
really ed. thanks for the info. that was in my memmory the only game when he was in the box?
yep. against oldham too.
he did played almost 30 odd games this season.

any more examples. {Ed001's Note - really? Are you that clueless you hadn't noticed that he spent most of the season playing a holding role? Or are you next going to whine that Lucas hasn't been scoring many since his return from injury?}

25 Feb 2013 12:40:44
hahahha.
holding role.
ok. ok. as u said.
lets see the remaining 12 games.
I am not sure. how many he is going to start unless someone gets injured.
and let's see the next season.
since we don't have a choice.

25 Feb 2013 12:47:15
and I am also confident you had the same views for charlie adam?. BTW where is the lad now?
som many demanded to give him time. space. future. blah blah. what happened?

Ed is it not true. that you can't buy quality and skill.
either you are born with it. or not.

he is no where near to an 18 mill midfielder.

and most irony. lucas has scored more goals than allen combined with assist. {Ed001's Note - of course it is not true, have you ever seen a baby trying to kick a ball? You think George Best became so good because of natural talent, or because he was obsessed and spent every spare moment practicing? Some people might find it easier than others, but no one is good without at least some effort. What is really sad is that people are so lacking in patience, give the lad a chance and judge him after a few seasons. I am sick of pointing out to knee jerk *censored* that it took Rush 3 years to find his feet with us. Lucas took a few years as well. At least he has the potential to be a capable player and puts in the effort to improve himself. That gives him every chance with us, unlike those who would rather go the pub and drink their career away.}

Against sunderland he could have had a hat trick with just playing 20 mins

after so many false dawns the past few seasons, it looks as though we might be entering one of the most pivotal points in are season the next 3 games, I know we can only take one game at a time but with games coming up against wigan, saints and spuds at home, 9 points could really put us in the mix for the final run in to the end of the season, especially looking at the run of games the other teams have coming up to, we can only try and finish the season off as best we can and climb as high as possible, and aslong as we can find that little bit of consistency that's been missing to go along with some of the great football we've been playing, then we might at the very least find ourselves in contention for a top 4 spot, I know like everyone else that we've left ourselves maybe a bit too much to do but if we can get 9 points out of the next 3 games it will make the final run in a lot more interesting and although were considerable outsiders to make the top 4 this season, you just never know what might happen with a late, late surge.
like I said you just never know, we've just got to do are part and see what happens!

The pivotal games have gone now. We just have a few straws to clutch

Im glad you let me know mate.
i might aswell stop going the game now then innit seein as the seasons already over according to you!
i know aslong as there's a chance ill keep believing, whether i'm right or wrong ill never be a strap on like you lad

24 Feb 2013 20:00:14
my question to ed001 who according to u would/should be given a chance in first team from reserves based on performances come the end of the season like sterling got taste of first tem action last season which helped him settle quickly early in the season. surely BR must have an eye on a few.
Liverbird

I would pick Sama. We could be looking for 3 centre halves in the Summer if Coates and Skrtel move on and Carrs retires. If he had the potential to step up as cover with Kelly then Liverpool could maybe only need to buy 1 quality center halve and seend the money else were.

Alright folk's, I'd like to congratulate Swansea on winning their first major honor as a club. As well, I hope we look at Swansea's success as a credit to Swansea, as opposed to another stick to beat Brendan Rodgers with.
derryred

24 Feb 2013 20:26:07
Congratulations to Swansea, can't think of a more deserving EPL team. Really happy for them

I can and there called Liverpool. but congrats anyway to the swans

How are Liverpool more deserving? I would like to see Liverpool lift it but we aren't owed anything they went out and won it so they deserve it.

Kopping a feel

25 Feb 2013 17:22:19
Of course I would rather Liverpool had won it, but it doesn't make anyone less of an LFC to say Swansea deserved to win the competition. Look at where they were ten years ago and where they are now. They have spent very little money in the transfer window very well indeed, and played consistently and well. They're a good side! They haven't bought any success, they play very attractive, entertaining football. Their manager doesn't spout off at the press or other managers when things don't go their way, and i'm really pleased for them getting into Europe next season. I like the thought of supporting the EPL sides in Europe, but when you can't stand many of the teams involved it's difficult to do, but I will be watching and supporting the Swans in Europa (as long as they are not playing us!)

They beat us fairly, and managed to beat Chelsea over 2 legs, and now hold the record for biggest score margin in a league cup final - where is the shame in saying well done to them?

Half of us bitch about the league cup like it's nothing anyway, and if the players treat games like they don't matter, like they have at times this season, then where is the issue? Swansea really wanted it, and they played their asses off and went out and got it. I don't get where the issue is?

Super

24 Feb 2013 19:51:57
Liverpool need three 'big lads' with leadership qualities in goal, centre back and centre mid - preferably German or Scandinavian. Agree?

Burgess

Why not Lithuanian or Mexican?

Nationality doesn't concern me as long as these three "big lads" come from Macclesfield, FC Dallas and Sparta Prague.

5ft 10ins is a giant in Mexico.

24 Feb 2013 19:25:18
Our out transfers will probably be the following this summer.

Carroll 12-17 million.
Spearing 2-4 million.
Coates 3-6 million.
Downing 6-10 million.
Assiaidi 4-6 million.
Jones free.

Preferred choice of Ins would be.

Eriksen. 15-20 million.
Lovren. 10-15 million.
Canales. 5-8 million.
And a young German keeper to put competition on Reina 8-10 million.

Jonesred

You need to forget eriksen!

How can I

Let's just hope whoever comes in improves the team. That's something that has not happened of late. Don't care who they are.

Outs: reina 15m
Carroll 17m
Skrtel 15m
Coates 6m
Spearing
Carra
Downing 8m
Allen 10m+
Borini 8m+
Shelvey 8m+ (+ if offers of that size come we should move on)
Assaidi 5m

Targets: GK. Begovic, vorm, young German keeper
CB: lovren, amorbiata, diakete
LB: shaw, Taylor
CDM: Diame, wanyama
WIDE: Ben arfa, ince, munian, mertins
AM: eriksen, Honda, tarrabt, turan
Striker if borini leaves

I'd go: vorm 6m
Amorbiata free
Shaw 10m
Diame 4m
Ben arfa 15m
Eriksen 15m
Not sure on forward 5-25m to replace borini

I'd also allow Allen shelvey and borini to move on

In no way are Skrtel and Reina likely to be worth as much as Eriksen sells for. Perhaps combined the valuation would be close.

Mate.
Im really sorry but your deluded!
Eriksen will probs cost about 30mil be on very high wages and have the pick of most top clubs.

OredZ

24 Feb 2013 19:22:52
Fsg will sell the club when we're back in the champions league and when all the stadium issues are sorted out. This will increase the value of the club. I for one have no problem with this, as we'll be back in the champions league and finally have the extra capacity we desperately need. In my view fsg will have done a good job, and what extra money they get from the sale of the club will be richly deserved.

24 Feb 2013 19:56:18
And when exactly do you think we will be back in the Champions League. I think you might be waiting a long time.

At the end of next season, mark my words.

At the end of this season ;)

24 Feb 2013 19:18:08
Who would people pick for next season from a centre half, a midfielder and a if not first choice keeper an able deputy to put pressure on Reina?

Mine would be

Centre half. Lovren would suit me. At a young age still been capable in his club and international performances. Would possibly command a fee in region of 12-15 million.

Midfielder. Far too many to list but my preferred choice would be Eriksen of Ajax. Probably not be able to offer CL football so this could be problematic towards any deal. Would love to see him in the midfield, but a big shout.

Keeper. For me I'd see how Reina does between now and the end of the season. I don't actually have a preferred choice on a keeper, but there is an abundance of young talented keepers in Germany. If we were to buy one I'd prefer we went for one of these.

Who would everyone else's choices be?

Jonesred

Lovren wouldn't cost anything like that fee

24 Feb 2013 19:15:09
I think we should take a gamble on gary hooper even if it is to make up the numbers the guy is a goalscorer I no people will say its only scotland but once a goalscorer always a goalscorer YNWA JON96

Michael Owen was ONCE a goalscorer

Gary Hooper is not good enough for PL and LFC

24 Feb 2013 23:34:12
Further to the other poster above me, Fernandon't Scorres was also once a prolific scorer of goals.

24 Feb 2013 18:35:06
I know it's just talk right now but is anyone else worried with the eds saying we have to sell to buy in the summer? We have a strong squad we need to keep the team together! Having to sell downing Henderson skrtel to raise funds is ridiculous all the top teams are top teams because they have squad depth. Our young squad is just starting to gel an were gunna sell? It doesn't make sense! All we need is a good centre back, left back to compete with Enrique, an a quality wide/forward player that's it. We should be able to do that without having to sell! Keep those guys it just makes no sense, we have a real thin squad already. If we have to sell to buy, next season is going to be another transition season! Does any body see this? {Ed002's Note - That is not what was said.}

Ed's said something like the majority of our expenditure will come through sales.

Eds I've seen u reply to 3 different people an say pretty much that! So do u mind explaining what u mean? {Ed002's Note - You incorreectly paraphrased what I said. What I said was perfectly clear.}

24 Feb 2013 20:53:35
So could you please explain where you guess the summer transfer budget is coming from then Ed002. Through sales or FSG investment? Simple question really! No need to start getting narky is there? {Ed002's Note - Why don't you take the time to read what I stated, thereby saving me effort of reiterating the answer yet again. I am thinking about bringing out a Liverpool Transfers Pop Up Book for those who struggle understanding plain English.}

24 Feb 2013 20:42:58
Ed002, I replied to the above post but it doesn't appear to have gotten through, I used my mobile is that why? Thanks.

Waro {Ed002's Note - I guess it fell done the back of the sofa.}

24 Feb 2013 21:27:07
Aha, thought it had. Nothing like a reasoned balanced and subjective point of view is there ed002. Final question, how much do F$G put into this site, figureativly speaking.

Waro {Ed002's Note - A lot less that the neo-politicos put in to your little gang Waro.}

24 Feb 2013 21:38:25
.................we're not stupid pal so don't mug us off as contributors to this site! {Ed002's Note - You mean ex-contributors.}

24 Feb 2013 22:09:47
I'll figure out what your agenda is with regards F$G Ed002, you see if I don't, you little tinker.

Waro

Ed002, you work for Fsg? The plot thickens! I knew you weren't a rodeo clown. ;-)

The Irish Rover {Ed002's Note - I am a rodeo clown and part-time gentleman adventurer.}

24 Feb 2013 18:08:30
just a bit of banter guys, who do reckon would suit us better turan or ericksson. turan can play on the wings as well as the attacking mid. my bet would be turan what do you guys think?again m not saying we will get either.

You have seen Sahin flop like a jellyfish, now you suggest Turan, Premiership defenders would eat him alive.

Lol makes me chuckle when someone mentions Eriksen. He will never sign for us guys need to get realistic. DBol

I disagree think turan would more than handle his own, just like Juan mata.

Just because sahin and turan share a nationality, does not mean they would fair any differently in english football

Sahin and turan are completely different entities and can't be compared like that, only an ignorant fool would try to compare them based solely on the fact they are both Turkish.

Based on your theory we should never of bought Torres because morientes was poor for us or on the flip side jay spearing must be world class because gerrard is.

Turan would be a fantastic buy not just because he is a fantastic talent but because he would play for the shirt not just the money like if bought half the players everyone scouts on fifa13 or match of the day.

24 Feb 2013 18:06:19
Watching swansea with a bit of jealousy played absolutly outstanding and they have got better under laudrup its like we are aspiring to be better than them. Laudrup looks a good manager

They beat Bradford not Barcelona.

24 Feb 2013 19:16:55
Yea, remember what Bradford did to Wigan, Arsenal and Villa of two legs? And Swansea actually beat Chelsea over two legs to the final. They are this good.

If you like Swansea so much, then why not support them

Ack17

Bradford were bound to come unstuck eventually and let's be honest, it's a league one team on a big pitch against a good passing side. let's not get too carried away, they only did to Bradford what the other prem league teams should have done in the first place.

Only did what we did to them 7 days earlier!

24 Feb 2013 18:03:10
Alright boys let's get behind the team now! This can be a turning point in our season, the Wigan game is huge! We've been in this situation meny times this season an we've blown it! A win at Wigan can really push us on we'll be right up for the Tottenham game at home! But a Wigan win is huge! We can achieve 4th this year!

YNWA come on you reds!

Whilst 4th place is possible it requires us to go on a winning run, and whilst on paper we should win most of our remaining games, the truth is we won't.

Realistically we can hope for 6th and get into europa again.

I'll have a pint of what he's been drinking

We would need to win 10 of 11 games and hope tottenham chelsea only win 7 of the remaining 11 games so yes unlikely but not impossible!

24 Feb 2013 17:52:19
At the end of the day, Laudrup's CV looks great.

At the end of the day it's night an your talkn. hite. lfc fazak

Better than ten year moyes

24 Feb 2013 19:32:14
Correct but moyes is the media darling. Won nothing but hailed as a modern day great. Why who knows.

Waro

Moyes is an average joe compared to Laudrup. After all, laudrup has won more in 8 months than moyes has in 11 seasons inspite of managing a higher profile team. Oh yeah, and Laudrup makes hi team play great football, while Moyes loves hoof football.

24 Feb 2013 17:25:31
This is reply to my post yesterday. I want to clarify I wasn't bashing rafa, all I was saying I would never forgive him for the also so saga. I am truly grateful for what he did for the club, I think he is a great tactician. I stand by what I said yesterday I feel Rodgers is getting the best out of Suarez, he has got a much free role. I believe Rodgers doesn't get a enough credit cause he ain't a house hold name. I think Liverpool fans need to start realising that its going to take time to be fighting for the title, we are on a big rebuilding phase, at the moment it is looking very promising.

Scouse 1892

I definitely think Rodgers should be given time. This season was always going to be a a difficult one. next season we will Definitely see a more consistent side. couple more quality players and we'll. Be back. In the champions league.

24 Feb 2013 19:59:31
I think there's more chance of Frank Sinatra making a comeback than Liverpool getting in the top four next year.

Frank is on the karaoke every friday night in the flat house.

24 Feb 2013 17:21:05
Jus watching bradford v swansea the ref to send the keeper off what a joke a bit of common sense jus give a pen instead he goes and ruins his big day joke YNWA JON96

Unfortunately Jon the ref has to stick to the laws of the game with assessors watching his performance from the stands, sentiment doesn't come in to it no matter what score it is.

Rules are rules

It's the law of the game, he had to. Fickle fans like you annoy me.
NotIntheKnow

If the ref has to stick to the law why did joe hart stay on the pitch

Thing is, there was just about another defender level with the keeper, so the ref could easily have given the keeper a yellow with the pen and there would have been no arguments. I did feel for the guy, although The outcome of the game would also have been the exact same, red card or not.

Luc YNWA

24 Feb 2013 16:57:37
Hi Eds,

Will Rodgers be given the money from the Carrol transfer? presuming someone will stump up some money to do so

Thanks {Ed002's Note - I would expect that sales will fund much of the purchases this summer, so if Carroll is sold I am sure that will help matters.}

Thanks Ed.

If we get the 17 mil (i think) for Carrol from West ham, money from the sale of Skrtl, Reina and Downing (if he goes) I can see Rodgers making some very astute signings to replace them.

Yeah like Allen, borini & Assaidi. Can't wait.

24 Feb 2013 16:52:55
Why are some quarters calling are owners they have done ok they have given the managers the money like dalglish red god. they have a up and coming manager who will do us good next season

The owners have backed the managers and the fans but sadly they have been misled in c. vs for comoli, rogers etc but I believe they are learning their lessons good for us or bad only time will tell. good luck to fsg. red mick tag ynwa.

24 Feb 2013 16:47:43
After tommorow we will either be 9 or 10 points behind 4th place. So the gap has already gone down from 12 points. Just shows that if we win our games we can easily make up ground on other teams. These days nearly every team drops points regularly

I agree our season is far from over. But let's take one game at a time. A tough game on Saturday at a place where we have struggled recently. let's hope that changes on Saturday.

Also just 1 point away from the magic 40 point mark, which should see u safe from relegation, all joking aside if suarez leaves in the summer realisticaly who do u see rogers signingin his place, joeyored

Spurs haven't played yet, they play West Ham tomorrow I'm sure? Apologies if I'm wrong.

El Pi**edolero

I agree. And 5th place is to play for. Prefer Europa than nothing. But who knows for 4th.

Joeyored

If Suarez goes I would like us to use the money to get two quality players like Stevan Jovetic & Alexis Sanchez.

Spurs are currently 9 points ahead of us, and Chelsea are a point ahead of them. If spurs win, they will overtake Chelsea.

They aren't bad shouts kidder, but ain't man city after jovetic and not taking the p but its a big ask sanchez leaving barca for Liverpool, bearing in mind europe is a big ask for u this season and also I can see united interested if sanchez was available'he was a major target a couple of seasons ago, joeyored

24 Feb 2013 16:18:09
So red lobster thinks fsg need a slap because we made stupid mistakes which cost us points, again yet another unfair attack on the people who saved our club, stupid mistakes have been made by players not fsg, skertyl been a good player for last couple of seasons and carragher been a lion for us for years, mistakes happen. Stop blaming fsg for everything and if there that bad why don't you buy the club

It's simple knee jerk reactions, led by emotions. Children scream at their parents when things don't go their way, it's much the same on here when something erks a fan FSG are the ones that get the toys and the rattles aimed at them.

Fsg are good people but their absence from games is bad {Ed002's Note - What possible difference would it make.}

FSG IMO don't deserve all the stick they receive, we should be grateful on quite a few fronts with what they've done here.

I agree that their lack of presence may be viewed by some as disinterest or perhaps that their focus is more on the Red Sox. Its a natural reaction, I don't believe that personally, but I can see how it may be viewed. {Ed002's Note - We know the reason for their not attending games. There is no point dragging all of that up again.}

24 Feb 2013 21:17:30
FSG saved Lfc. Simple as that! The other two cowboys nearly ruined this great club. They've set about a financial plan to sustain our club status for many years. They have invested in the team / squad (not thier fault if it was wasted or overspent on crap). They have a positive plan in place to make the best of Anfield. Jeeeeezzz wot more do people want? I for one cannot fault their efforts. sometimes a bit misguided but ALWAYS with the best interests of the club at heart. or wallet. Just remember. We could have been gone if it wasn't for their serious investment!

I think fsg should go the game and the difference it would make is to show they are interested in what goes on on the pitch and not only in the bank edd002 do you go the game to see chelsea or are your comments based on what you read and see on tv etc as this is fsgs view on lfc. I am sorry they have been intimidated by persons and hope they resolve this. good luck fsg you own lfc you need to join the fans for mutual benefits. {Ed002's Note - FSGs view on Liverpool is not based on what they see on TV or read. I think you perhaps misunderstand what their involvement entails.}

24 Feb 2013 16:18:01
Just eyeing up remaining fixtures today.

We have a nice gentle run in, all our tough matches are at home (spurs, Everton and Chelsea) and all our games are at least 1 week apart.

I don't think we can catch Arsenal, they also have a good run in and will probably put the reserves out in Munich.

However, Spurs and Chelsea have tough run ins. If they both go on a run in the Europa (looks tough for spurs v inter) and Chelsea also progress in FA cup (go on Rafa), they are potentially catchable.

Could be a few twists left in the race for 4th.

M. Aurelius

Dear Fellow Reds, Just been seeing quite a few posters asking for opinions and views on our current players so I thought it might help if I did a little summary of what fans appear to think of our current squad.

Renia (Used to be a hero, now under preforming due an obvious wish to be somewhere else, Still capable of great saves but equally prone to error. Thanks for everything but would not be too sad to see him replaced in the summer which looks likely)
Jones (Decent back up who has preformed ok when called upon, nothing special but does not need to be)
Johnson (Seems to now be prefered on the left, some great attacking instinct but has added defensive steel to his game, many seem to think he should be used further forward)
Enrique (Started well, ended last season poorly, getting back to form and seems better used in an attacking role, still defensively suspect but should stay)
Wisdom (Good prospect, needs game time to improve, Best position still to be decided)
Kelly (Good prospect, a possible first choice center-back for the future)
Coates (Obviously has some skill but not suited to England, offers should be taken after Oldham ran rings round him)
Carragher (The legend that lives, always gives 100% and can be forgiven for lack of pace due to effort, inspires others with his passion, sad to see him retire and should be offered coaching role)
Agger (Our best defender but been prone to errors all season, should improve next year after getting more used to the system, some would like to see him played further forward)
Allen (Initially loved, Fans starting to get tired of his lack of killer balls, tries hard but possibly overpriced at 15m, many will wait till next season before making a judgement)
Skrtel (The Oldham game seems to have sealed his fate as have some huge defensive lapses in concentration, The majority seem to want him sold to raise money for another CB)
Lucas (Our best defensive midfield player, needs to score more but indispensable for our current system, hoping he can remain injury free)
Downing (A better 2013 has seen his stock rise but a terrible 2011/12 lives long in the memory and nobody seems like they would be too bothered if he was sold in summer)
Sterling (Either our greatest prospect in recent times or a lazy player who has given up since getting a large contract, personally I believe he will be a massive player for us and needs his confidence back)
Coutinho (Looks good, not enough game time to make a real decision)
Henderson (Finally starting to improve enough to make keeping him worthwhile, not really a winger though)
Suso (Needs game time to improve, possibly going out on loan to a fellow English club but is make or break time for him)
Assaidi (Many confused as to why he is not playing, not accustomed to the English game well and for sake of his own career should probably move back home)
Shelvey (Decent Prospect but now or never for him, needs to add more goals and killer instinct to his game, Again will probably be judged next season)
Gerrard (Can do no wrong, rightly a club and country legend and we all worry about when he will decide to retire)
Suarez (HE CANNOT BE SOLD- seems to be the main feeling, our best player and current talisman. Best flair player we have had in modern times)
Borini (Not good enough seems to be the general thinking, cruel injured but played enough games without scoring to show he would be no great loss)
Sturridge (Seen as the goalscorer we need, good positional play and could well be a key player in the future)

Of course I encourage anyone who disagrees but this was designed to help fans see the general consensus of what people think of our current squad. Anyone who has a differing opinion is welcome to voice it,

Red-David-26

It's hard to say whether I agree or not, because it's very carpet bombed.

I don't think you've praised Enrique enough.
I think Skrtel is still worth his spot, judging him on an Oldham game (and coates) is naive, because it's an entirely different style of game compared to the 38 premiership games, where by and large, he has been outstanding so far.
I don't think asking Lucas to score more is a realistic ambition, as his art is defensive.
Assaidi has been at african cup of nations, so he hasn't had a fair role of the dice.
I don't rate shelvey and think he has had his chance to make an impression, and hasn't really done that consistently
Borini has been unlucky

otherwise, not bad summary

I agree with a lot of what you said. For me Shelvey needs to go out on Loan. He has been poor in the last few months. Coates is too sluggish for the prem. He needs to be replaced. I think Skrtel struggled in the Oldham game, trying to cover for Coates. SKrts is a great player. Allen looked good against Zenit, getting forward more. Hendo again is showing why Kenny paid so much. Assaidi, Looked great when he came on, far more effective than downing, who despite looking more confortable, is styill ineffective. Sterling will be very important to us, but his time should be limited this season. We defo need another forward, CB and AM, and maybe a 2 sided full back to cover both sides.

My sh*t car cost more than the entire Bradford team and yet they're at Wembley with a chance to win a trophy. Liverpool should be trying harder to win the domestic cups. 4th might be the aim of the club but we play in the most competitive league in the world and its difficult. Now we are in Feb with nothing to play for and it's carp let's face it. Does any other fans think this especially next year as we probably won't be in the Europa League. Don't throw all the Liverpool eggs into one basket

Their cheapest player cost £50,000!

Do you own a fleet of Maybachs?

Just watched city game Scott Sinclair still not getting a game I think he would be a brilliant signing what's the chances {Ed002's Note - I have no idea.}

We can't sign him cause fans on this page will go crazy cause he's another ex swansea player. haha

Imagine Sinclair. sturridge . and are magical no 7 coming at you with pace any back 4 would have a problem

Must be a reason why he's not getting a game for Chelsea. I'd take him on loan but a big transfer fee might be better spent on someone who has played football in the last year. {Ed002's Note - There is a reason Sinclair is not getting a game for Chelsea. I don't recall what it is right now.}

Rafa won't pick him Ed002, that's the reason!

Sorry, got Citeh and Chelsea mixed up, easy mistake to make given their similar set ups. {Ed002's Note - How is Rafa getting on at Manchester City?}

You are ruthless ed002 but I like it.

The Irish Rover

Ed002: If you want to know how Rafa's getting on at Man City, try the search engine :p

Just watched city/chelsea game (in between watching ajax) think Rafa's up for the sack? Anytime soon.

Was it even a question though? As soon as he came in Torres would have had to score at very least 20 goals to get Rafa the spot at Chelsea. That and the fact that results have not gone his was is a clear indicator that Rafa is not going to keep his job I just wonder who would take his place.

AndyKopLiverpool {Ed002's Note - His contract is temporary until the end of the season only.}

What? And employ another interim manager? This time for 3 months? Post of the day Kidmillions!

The Irish Rover

Why sack him? He's in a short term contract, and he's actually been good for the plastics, just that they won't see it that way. Hope he gets a decent job after this, and let's face it, who cares about chelski? let's hope they appoint a big name who decides to change the whole team. That should take care of next season.
ND

I personally think that rafa will take over at Real Madrid and mourinho will be back at Chelsea next season.

Ack17

If Spurs win tomorrow and Chelsea drop to 4th and in danger of dropping to 5th? Do you really think Roman will wait till the end of the Season? I don't.

Wouldn't put anything past Abramovich.

In fact, we should sign Roman to be out next keeper as you can't put anything past him.

I think if Brendan should do old adage ( still relevant today) Get spine right then add around it. Including pace out wide. is way to build. And In my Opinion Midfield ain't right. Stevies getting older. A Younger Stevie be VERY hard to find. A Ya Ya Torre type required-power, pace, leadership, A Hypia style Centre half-Good in air, calm. And a Steely young Carra style Centre Half alongside. a Strong Drogba option be handy upfront so insteadve messing around at the back when chasing a result like the other night we have option of long ball and flick on for Suarez. A Lukaku type

Im guessing your quite old. the days of the big man wee man flick on is long gone especially with the fluid front 3/4 we play with

We've got Sturridge and Suarez would sooner we spent big on a Dries Mertens type player to go alongside them 2, and maybe an experienced striker as back up and an Eriksen type midfielder.
I personally don't think we should waste money on defenders.
We have Agger, Skyrtel, Kelly, Wisdom and Coates for the center of defence.
If we have more cut and thrust in attack the defence will benefit and look more solid and confident.

Afternoon,

Eds, who from your information/sources are Liverpool looking at? {Ed002's Note - Read the posts please.}

24 Feb 2013 14:05:10
Question for anyone who visits this site. Anyone know where I can go to see news on possible youth signings for u21 or u18 I enjoy watching the academy lads play and I'd like some news about anyone new that could possibly join the academy.

24 Feb 2013 14:08:06
I agree with a post I saw earlier, not every single quality player is going to want champions league football. I could understand if they turned down lfc for barca, madrid, united etc but we are still held in high regard by a lot of players.

There are only a select few players who who would care about the champions league, and even fewer who would be bought by the european giants.

How do we know wuhether a player isn't interested unless we attempt to sign them? Nobody thought we would sign suarez for this reason.

Hey lfc fans

I'm watching the man city and chelsea game. and city jus dominate possession. they couldn't even do it against livderpool. No team in the prem has been able to be all over us. we just make silly mistakes all year.

I just wanna slap fsg just so say. Spend money on 4-5 top quality players. atleast 3 of the calibre or suarez or david silva esc. And KEEP everyone we have in the squad. and I would say we can easily get top 3.

Think logically. we make silly mistakes. we need jus a little bit of extra quality to make those games count into wins. more goals. etc

So a few tweaks guys because we go away and dominate teams in gameplay. its a good sign.

Red lobster

24 Feb 2013 14:34:08
Yea, and for that same reason AC Millan beat Barca 2-0. Goals win u games not ball possession. I wonder which game u're watching anyway.

Pure drivel

bootle boy

I agree, we're our own worst enemy and when we get beat it's because we shoot ourselves in the foot and not because the opposition have battered us.
Jud.

FSG don't choose which players to buy BR does?

Londonred

It's the people who pick the players that are costing Liverpool. Give a fan a £50 million war chest and he'll buy 2 world class players. A manager will buy 4/5 reinforcements or squad players. DBol

It's partly because our wounds are mostly self inflicted, but also we are very wasteful up front.

24 Feb 2013 13:30:00
The season is over so let's build for next season. we need a new cb also a tough tackler in midfield and sounds silly but barton he would give 100% plus cheap and a new winger then we would be set for a challenge

Yeah 100% from the stands when he's suspended.

So you would rather have Allen or Jon Jo shelvey who give 50% all the time or someone who would fight are course for 90 mins every week

You can't build for next season until the transfer window opens.

24 Feb 2013 12:52:13
The season for Liverpool is now finished.

Get over it.

One-2-Go

Not true at all. We have 11 games left this season, so that converts into 33 points maximum to fight for until the Season is actually finished.

So there is certainly plenty left to play for in terms of pride and final League position, beating Everton overall and when we play them, as well as a slim chance at qualifying for the Europa League.

BCDI.

Its certainly not over. There might be players playing for their career st Lfc and a manager for his job next season. Plenty to play for still. let's hope West Ham can get 3 points tomorrow night.

The Irish Rover

How is the season over? 9 points away from 4th (Champions League) and 8 points away from 5th (Europa League), with 11 games yet to play. The fat lady is far far away from singing yet. If anything, it's getting more exciting. The kind of stuff where boys become men! ;-)

33 points from 11 games!
Yeah right.
15 points more like.

Behind Tottenham and The Arsenal, probably a couple of others as well.

Rodgers doesn't even know which centre-half to play. Last season everyone was after Skertl. This year you are complaining about him.

It's over in all but name.

Lads bitter blue alert no red would say season over with 30 points to play for

24 Feb 2013 12:18:04
I personally think we should keep reina! Would we realistically be able to attract an equal/better replacement? He loves the club and the fans, also he's one of the worlds best keepers on his day, it would be a bad decision to let him go in my opinion.

24 Feb 2013 11:59:15
Managers next season realistically
Arsenal: David Moyes
Aston Villa : Paul Lambert
Chelsea : Jose Mourinho
Everton : Mark Hughes
Fulham: Martin Jol
Liverpool: Brendan Rodgers
Man City: Manuel Pellegrini
Man Utd: Sir Alex Ferguson
Newcastle: Alan Pardew
Norwich: Chris Hughton
Qpr: Nigel Adkins
Reading: Brian Mc Dermott
Stoke: Tony Pulis
Sunderland: Martin ONeill
Swansea: Micahel Laudrup
Tottenham: Andre Villas-Boas
West Brom: Steve Clarke
West Ham: Harry Redknapp
Wigan: Roberto Martinez

I have a sneaking suspicion that Laudrup will be on his way back to the continent and it will be a shock - Barca or Real Madrid.

Mark hughes at Everton Lol

I doubt Michael Laudrup would end up at either Barcelona or Real Madrid, very much. His work with Swansea could be a one season wonder given his poor results at his previous two clubs, Spartak Moscow & Mallorca. I wonder where Carlo Ancelloti will end up in the PL?

Wenger won't resign (he never walks away from a contract) and Arsenal board won't sack him as he makes them rich.

Everybody knows David Moyes will be the one to succeed Fergie. The affiliation between clubs has been prevalent for years, so you can cross that off your list.

Hi Eds
With FSG likely to sell up, who do you think the new owners will get as manager? {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any short-term plan for FSG to sell up.}

24 Feb 2013 11:42:35
Eds

With owners thinking of floating Liverpool on the stock exchange. Will Liverpools value increase and make it appealing if future buyers if Liverpool is sold

Thanks
Zorro {Ed002's Note - I don't understand the quaestion. Sorry.}

Should it ever get floated, then it can't be 'sold' in the traditional sense. Ownership is then the shareholders. Be interesting to see how many (if any) shares FSG retained as opposed to how many were out in the open market.

When floating a business on the stock exchange it is usually between 40-60 percent that is retained but its up to the owners if they wish to release more.

This is a nightmare, Wigan 5. 30 on Saturday seems a long way off.

It has written on the side
"No Pies are left in this van overnight. " ;0)

if people actually read the posts on here they would see we can't afford any new big signings this summer if we do sign someone then its only if we sell first, and the only way we get money that way is if we sell some of our best players so expect not much going on this summer simples!

How do you know we can't afford any big signings. Has John Henry posted on here saying that. Think FSG R the only people who know that and there hardly going to let everybody know.

More drivel

bootle boy

Or perhaps we sell a few of our "not the best" players.

I could see fsg giving a small amount for transfer kitty, but wouldn't blame them if they were cautious this time around. I agree that we'd probably have to sell to buy this summer. {Ed002's Note - In discussing the impact of the Dempsey money on the Sturridge transfer, Ian Ayre explained: "If we had spent that money in the summer then we wouldn’t have done that trade recently." It is not unreasonable of the very significant investments that have been made that the owners can expect the club to be becoming much more self-sufficient financially.}

It's you who isn't reading the posts over here, bud. With LFC being one of the top 3 spenders yearly the past 5 years, when will the regular drivel of "can't afford this or that, can't buy this or that" end? We have new owners who watched windfall profits (sale of Torres) being squandered and high prices being paid for players (Henderson & Downing) who only now are playing and performing as they were expected to a year ago. So nobody should blame FSG, Ayre & Rodgers for their cautious approach. If windfall profits do come in this summer (sale of some of our "best" players), I'm confident they'll know what to do.

24 Feb 2013 11:22:52
2 questions
1. Why do people think Suarez will leave LFC?
2. Why do people think the owners will leave?
After all Suarez keeps saying he's happy here and he has a couple of years still on his contract and the owners want to increase capacity and want to apparently see how much the clubs value would be on the stock market!?
thes mell

I hope Suarez stays - at least for another season. But if he does go (and who could blame him in all honesty) I think it will be to Italy. Napoli, Roma, Juventus.

Thes Mell, I agree. The rumours of the owners selling up and Luis leaving are just that, rumours, and it is annoying. Both scenarios are thankfully highly unlikely, largely for the rumours you have suggested.

Red Owl

Err roma. I don't think so haha

24 Feb 2013 15:46:35
Atleast another two seasons from Suarez would be great three if we're lucky! But he gana improve and get much better he's twice the player that Bale, Rooney, RVP were at his current age and he he's not even into his prime yet. Another two seasons would be great! I can see a 30-40 goal pus coming from him. Greek12

Hypothetical Question

So much time and effort is spent on offside and debating offside decisions.

I would like to know.

What would happen if offside was scrapped?
How would the game and tactics change?
What teams/players would benefit the most?

The game would be rubbish without the offside rule. Everyone would play like Wimbledon of the 1980's -= hoof the ball and bugler sound the charge.

Stoke City would benefit the most.

8 players on the line, a goalkeeper, a midfielder and Kenwynne Jones or Crouch in the opponents box.

Coats down for goals and best school shoes all scuffed, everyone chasing the ball round the playground, my best mate Dave, goal hanging and scoring for fun.
He used to score about 30 goals a day, he was the best finisher ever! And he used to celebrate every goal by shouting "Get In!" and punching the air.
He hated the offside rule, he always blamed it for not getting in the school team.

Every game would be 5-5

24 Feb 2013 10:45:51
Not a rumour but my wish! I am happy for pepe to move. Thank him greatly but take the 15m or so and use it on Vorm and Ashely Williams of Swansea. Probably cost 10 each at a guess. Then buy a dominant midfielder with strength so we don't get out muscled by the likes of stoke. In the yaya toure or Fellini mould but obviously they aren't going to happen.

If Reina was to go, barca would prob offer a player

Vorm would be ok. we can do a lot better than williams though

Reina is not worth 15m!

24 Feb 2013 10:35:01
morning EDS, this summer lfc need to keep suarez at all costs even if it means giving him a masive pay rise. don't forget he will have sturidge with him from the offset come next august and other teams will be very fearfull of them. Their understanding will blossom even more. What do you think should the club offer him more money if need be, your views please. {Ed002's Note - I really don't want to talk about money or wages.}

I think you show a misunderstanding of what Suarez is all about. I personally find the facts and suggestions about his personality/training all support the notion that he is an ambitious player that finds greater value in awards than money. My opinion (and I'd love to hear what anyone else thinks) is that LS will finish the season with us and assess whether the team will be able to match his ambition in the coming season. If he thinks we will not be able to match his longing for honours then I imagine he will make it clear he wants to move on and there will be no shortage of interest from all around the world. If the latter happens then it will inevitably be couched in terms of "it is best for both LFC and Luis" blah blah blah.

As for breaking all our financial structures in order to keep hold of LS. This is short-sighted. There are other players who will then question whether they are wanted if their money does not match what LS gets. THIS could cause upheaval and distortion. leading to a lesser performance and NOT a better performance by the team overall.

Let's hope we have a good run-in for all our other games this season because I can only see LS staying with us if we achieve some level of European football. no European football in the 2013/14 season will see him move on. Again, this is just my opinion.

Thanks REYNARD for your honest opinion but who could we afford with the same qualities to replace suares should he chose to leave it would be virtualy impossible to replace him, this is the way I feel about the subject anyway lol!

I do agree with you Mark that we should go all out to keep him but money will not keep him.

Firstly, other teams interested in him can offer far more than us without breaking their structure; Secondly, he is motivated by recognition of his ability through awards. he thrives on accolades (as all great players do) and seems to want to show how great a player he is. my main point was that if we do not get Europe this year then I fail to see how we can retain him as we will not really be giving him the format of competition he wants.

Some of you are real persons if you think there are class players that would turn down Liverpool fc just because of champions league. Yes, there are clubs who can offer more lucrative packages, but there are many players believe it or not who would jump at the chance to play for us. The way you guys say there is no chance of this and that is a real disappointment. Stop having small club mentality. And no I'm not deluded, I'm just optimistic and expectant. We are Liverpool fc. I won't count out the club signing some real world class players come the summer. We did sign luis suarez. So I just think its stupid that some of you think we can only sign average players. We are still a very attractive club for players and we are clearly moving in the right direction.

RedTHORN

World class players require and demand world class wages which are simply out of the equation at LFC. We simply will not pay the wages that they demand its as simple as that. There is a reason that LFC have been on a cost cutting and wage reduction drive. The reason is its simply unsustainable for the club. And i'm sorry you are deluded if you think otherwise.

Sorry mate, the wages comment is not true. LFC have always paid top wages.
How much do you think the retiring Carra is on?

Wages are not an issue at LFC, Champions League qualification is important but not essential.

If we sign a player and he proves his worth and becomes an integral part of the team like Suarez for example, then I think LFC have no problem paying the wages.
What we can't afford to do is sign players like Nasri for example on a lucrative conract and end up with an overpaid, underachieving player draining the club.

Look at what circumstances we signed Suarez under. His situation at Ajax had become untenable. Banned for 7 games for biting Bakkal's neck, had a massive bust up with Frank De Boer and lost the captaincy and Ajax were extremely worried that their prized asset was losing massive value, which is why they sold him just after they failed to get passed the group stages of the Champions League.

BCDI.

Wages are very much an issue at LFC these days and part of the re-structuring that is going on is to lower the wage bill.

24 Feb 2013 08:22:21
Why would FSG want to sell up now? Surely the common sense thing to do would be enlarge the ground, improve the weekly income, improve the squad, get stability within the club both on and off the field and continue to monitor the possible value of the club along the way. That way they will attract more investment and sponsorship.
Of course they are in business to make money but there is far more profit to be made down the line than now. They're in this for the long haul and our club will be back near the top of the pile under their stewardship - patience please!
Midsred

They're not persons.
They're not selling up now.
The new TV contract is coming and revenue will improve with that.

Don't listen to the scare mongering

24 Feb 2013 07:48:34
I see Assaidi is probably in his way out in the summer. Can't quite understand why he was brought to club who actually signed him? And to be fair to him every times I have seen him play he's looked a threat running at people, skillfull and pacey could improve his final ball ye but uou find that in a lot of young wingers it comes with good coaching and lots of practise on the training ground!surely handy player to have in the squad good to bring on like zenit the other day causing
Problems and winning fouls in dangerous positions actually think he's better than sterling, borini and shelvey at the moment.

Shelvey's not a winger, Jonjo is a quality player he's are 4th highest scorer and he does't often start. That lad can score goals from midfield. 10 games in Europa and 4 goals, only Suarez betters than with 4 goals in 8 games in Europa.

I'm glad he is very highly thought of in the game by the professional coaches, he's going to be a quality player and I hope he's given more consecutive games to show the doubters how good he really is, still only 20, has played for England at every level, be patient for this one.

He only cost £2m, supposedly, and at that price was never going to be a real risk. We could easily sell him at a profit, so we haven't lost out, really, even if he hasn't been the player we'd hoped for.

Didn't say shelvey was a winger just a forward option. But as u mention him yeah played well against average sides like young boys. I like shelvey but ain't seen it against Nyone decent yet. Assaidi should be given some more games he has the ability to make something happen. Ye sell him to early and watch him blossom and then try buy him back in few years for big money. Like ince!

which DMs and AMs do u think the club might be targetting this summer {Ed002's Note - Why not take the chance to read some posts.}

Hey eds, I don't know if we will be looking at any midfielders in the summer since we do have a lot at that position but between Benat and Inan, is there any chance of us getting one of them and which may be more likely? I know we go for the younger ones and these guys are 26 and 28 but still very good. Hopefully you can answer this. Thanks eds {Ed002's Note - As soon as you try and ask the most likely between two players you are fighting a losing battle.}

Watched Benat in theACON and wasn't too impressed I am sur there are better alternatives

Dont know what ACON you were watching. Pretty sure Benat is Spanish

As me and my mate both support norwich as are second team is was jumping round the house screaming my head off whilst watching tv intensly, g holt is my a legend!

Weve been knocked out of every cup possible but the one thing we have left to fight for, for the club and for carra, is finishing above the blue sh!te. Given that we have had one of our worst seasons (table position wise) in history, and everton arke having their best for ages, if we finish above them it will be the greatest thing since istanbul

I personally rang up my evertonian family and friends to laugh at them down the phone, it was hysterical. I may sound as bitter as them, but the fact is I would often compliment everton before a few months ago, and then it became clear they were actually doing well, and then their fans got ridiculously cocky and annoying (jelavic is better than suarez etc). They are so deluded they must be on A Class drugs.
