Well my uncle is close to gerrard they became friends in baby blue in town and tthey have been friends for a good quite time now and I asked steven gerrard himself as I seen on this site and on others that gerrard is wrecked and all that well gerrard I contactewd him straight away and he responded with "I am not sure about what has been said on sites and on twitter but all I can say mate is that I have had another knock in pre season which could have me out for first two weeks that's all and I won't retire until my doctor tells me that my groin is done in" and he did say his groin is not in much pain than what it was in so I just wanted to clear things up about that

I think it's clear we need a new defender, the Greek I am sorry to say just isn't good enough even as a fourth choice centre half, anyone with a bit of pace skins him, agger will miss a good few games because of injury, we need a Cahill or a Scott dann asap to allow either to get bedded in before season starts. A left back should be brought in also, what about drenthe or Marcelo from real Madrid? Or Eric abidal?

With Stevie injured and a poor performance on Saturday in my view we could be over reliant on the form of Suarez this season, brillliant in the copa America, what a bargain we got in January, I feel we have a lot of very good players in Adam, downing and Henderson but Suarez is that player who has that little bit extra, if he is on top form we could go anywhere, love to see a top form Stevie with him.

His Name Is Suarez And He Wears The Famous Red, I Just Can't Get Enough, I Just Can't Get Enough, When He Scores A Volley Or Gets One With His Head, I Just Can't Get Enough, I Just Can't Get Enough He Scores A Goal And The Kop Go Wild And I Just Can't Seem To Get Enough Suarez.

Can you lot stop worrying about Suarez missing the start of the season. Have you lot forgotten that he had a lengthy ban so will not be as "burnt out" as others

Opinions welcome

Knowing his personality, passion and hunger for the game I can see Luis back in training on Monday 8th August as he will want to play the opener against Sunderland on the Satuarday 13th August. We need his passion, desire and quality against an improved and energetic Sunderland especially if Stevie is missing.

Can someone tell me why people think suarez won't be ready to play for liverpool in 3 weeks? There is no way he would want to miss the start of the season, he isn't even injured... {Ed009's Note - Players are normally given a rest after long tournaments, which would mean he wouldn't be playing for over a month but, in Luis' case, I imagine him forcing Kenny et al to let him play.}

The best of the best were there. From Messi to Neymar, Tevez, Aguero. You name them they were there. But one man stood out. I don't have to say his name. You know who he is Liverpool for the title

Ed, could you give me ur best starting 11 out of our current squad and in what formation you would put them in, because I really don't have a clue {Ed009's Note - 4-3-3. Reina; Kelly, Carra, Agger, Johnson; Adam, Lucas, Gerrard; Suarez, Carroll, Downing.}

24 Jul 2011 21:58:13
suarez was class in the copa america we truly have something special here , would be great if we could have forlan and cavani at liverpool would be class with suarez

Double are you mad, 70mil and counting. Only Messi and Ronaldo are would go for more. Luis, he's all our's and i belive he'll play against Arsenal of his own choosin if the club will allow it.{Should rest him before and after that game if it can be done at all, }because he knows what a massive game it is to beat them, and thats the character of the man. Ballon d'or for Luis, anyone agree, long way to go but what a rare talent he is, having all those attributes to go with his workrate and commitment. Jonson6

this is the best post ive ever seen here:

Fair-weather playstation LFC fans talk absolute horlicks. Lucas not good enough and now they can't wait for him to come back Big Andy is still young and will get better, why do people slag off young players when they need games under their belts to develop, I'm suprised the lad Coady isn't finished already. The lack of trust in the judgement of Kenny is astounding, Downing is a very good player who will compliment the team, Adam has the range of passing we will miss from Stevie whilst he gets his fitness (which maybe sometime). People used to give Ronnie Whelan and Ray Houghton stick, but they where great sum parts of whole team. I can see what Kenny is doing, the players he has bought will settle quickly and all of them can 'pass and move' add this to the space Big Andy will create for Luis to exploit, then it seems pretty optimistic to me. I think we will cope without Stevie but would want him back fit and firing, one person we need asap is Pepe.

well said, gazman.

everyone knows bout the homegrown rules. They where here last season.

Remember Faustino Asprilla at newscatle. now he wasnt KK player. Im more concerned by the class of the players we have. The quality isn't their. Where buying squad playering hoping one of them will turn into something good.

A mata or Hazard would add quality to the first 11.

At the moment Luis Suarez, Gerrard when fit, Renia, are champions league players.

The rest are nothing special prem players. Kuyt works hard but he not that next level of player. Arsenal have Fab

One quality player would have been better than henderson + Downing. I would of paid 40million for harzard. that kind of quality would of taken us to another level. {Ed002's Note - But Hazard was not interested in a move.}

Hi eds, great site.

Just got a few questions to ask,

Is there any intrest in adam Johnson because if city grab mata they will no longer need Johnson. Maybe 20-25 million deal.

Also Gary cahill is a great player. I'm not sure if Liverpool are interested but I think the deal could be done. Probably 15-25 million deal.

We also need a left back. We have te obvious choices of cissoko and enrique, but since city got clichy, we could make a move for kolarov. Cissoko - 20 million, Enrique 5-10 million and kolarov - 5-15 million.

Thanks,
LFC-BENIT {Ed002's Note - If Johnson comes up for sale there may be interest from Liverpool, but I would not think chances are good. Cahill has to be a possibility but price may be an issue. The total money you mention is pushing £50M and I really don't expect that much to be available.}

Hey ed a few questio for u

1.
what are these players on at liverpool :
El zahr , Degen, Insua , aquaman, the greek and agger.

2. how many people visit this site i.e ur ratings? {Ed002's Note - The players are on quite a lot - El Zhar over £30k, DEgen over £60k etc. Hits I last heard were like Augero's wages - over 400k per day for all of the sites.}

24 Jul 2011 19:51:53
i think that ngog will suprise everyone this season, everyone is so quick 2 judge and dismiss our young players from overseas look at lucas hes one player that is guaranteed first team place next season which he was not two seasons ago when he was 22. ngog n insua will come good. he cost us 1.5m not 15m he's done and is doing his job

24 Jul 2011 19:48:06
Ed
We have already had French revolution then a spanish one which actually gave some good players to us.
I just hope this English one does not leave us with all passion but no flair.

Both are needed and I don't think it will be that easy to dislodge Arsenal or even Chelsea (they are getting old in some areas and I fancy terry to mess things for Boas before Christmas) from the champions league places.

We have to be on our A game.Plus the type of money we have spend on hendo, carroll and Downing more then us fans English media will try to build pressure on Kenny.

i'd have Rodallega as back up over Ngog any day, the game against hull highlighted that he's nowhere near good enough

does any of the eds or anyone know anything about the gerrard injury? Heard strong rumours this week that he is potentailly going to have to retire with the injury he has? Any truth in this or just speculation? {Ed002's Note - I don't think it is as bad as that, but details are not clear. For the moment I think that the best assumption is that it is not healing at the anticipated rate.}

Hi everyone. iv been away on holiday for a week and while i was there bbc world news was reporting on bojan's move to roma (i think it was roma). The figure they said had been agreed was 17million dollars with a buy back clause of 19million dollars in 2 years time should they want to. The strange thing was they also said that if they didnt wish to exercise that clause then roma would have to pay a further 40 million dollars for the player. This sounds insane Roma lose all round in this deal - if he succeeds he will leave for no money in 2 years and if he doesn't then they have to pay 57million dollars for a failure can anyone confirm this or shed any light on the deal. I wouldn't believe it normally but the bbc is usually reliable.

Pistolero pete.

He was in South Africa Jim mate, for the World Cup. And came on in the final and made a big difference imo.

Blair Mayne YNWA {Ed009's Note - He also played a lot of the group games. His homesickness has purportedly been cured, but the difference between a few weeks in a similarly sunny climate and an entire year in a frozen England is huge.}

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

yes blair i watched him as well but JN said himself he is not comfortable away from "home" for any length of time and that for me would rule out a move to england as 009 stated. What makes it funny is he is from a gipsy family and ther are "travellers"

Nabil El Zar has been asking Raheem Sterling about the set up of QPR, both are good friends outside of Melwood. He will be allowed to leave on a free transfer but will seek a pay off as he has 2 years to run on his current contract.
It remains to be seen if he is a direct replacement for Taarabt or a signing to make him stay. QPR haven't a lot of money to spend and won't see any of the Taarabt money if he was sold. QPR will fight tooth and nail to keep their best players at the club.
Jamie Degale
===============================

Hmm I think you need to do a little research before posting any carp ... QPR is one of the rich clubs in the EPL, maybe not as rich as City and Chelsea, but they certainly up there above many of the rest ..
I am a bit puzzled why they have nt spent yet and I can only put down to their management situation, are they looking to replace Warnock?

Ed009, massive fan of him mate, think he'll be a great success. I wrote of posts about him today at 08.33 and 14.28 just about the big fella. Might make for interesting read if you get time, ya might think the're a pile of s**t ha ha but i know your very busy Ed009 so if you get a lull maybe you can have a quick deek mate. Jonson6 {Ed009's Note - Your post in the morning is bang on, and I would agree that he is actually relatively fast when he gets going. Coupled with his strength it can be very hard for defenders to get the ball off him.}

I've read through the comments, and sure enough, theres a good percentage of people reading too far into the defeat to Hull. Yeah, nobody wants to see a defeat, but it doesn't mean that we won't perform when the season starts.

If you think about it, our players have just flew around the world playing games in a different time zone in heavy humidity, flying from China to Malaysia, then onto Singapore, then back to England. Within couple of days we're off to play a Hull side who have travelled about 10 minutes down the motorway to play North Feriby utd and Winterton Rangers. I don't care what anybody says, thats a factor.

When in the League are we going to be playing two sets of 11 players for each half? So when we have our strongest 11 on the pitch with our strongest bench and players are more settled, then we won't see the indecision and lack of movement that was on display (in the first half especially) yesterday.

Give Hull their due's though, they were knocking about well with plenty of movement off the ball, and we looked tired and lacked a cutting edge. Is this because some players know that they're off and can't get fully motivated? New players getting to know each other? Jet lag and tiredness? Mix and match sqaud feilded? I don't know. What I know is that it's not that the players we have aren't good enough, and it's not because the manager and coaching staff haven't got the tactical knowhow.

I watched the game, and yeah I was a bit disappointed, but I know that we'll be a force with the players that we have, along with our new signings. I've got a feeling we're not finished in the transfer market yet either, so we'll be even stronger if that's the case.

Can't wait for the new season to start, because with the youth coming through, the players we've signed and may still sign, Kenny and Clarkey and the owners, it all positivity from me. 3-0 defeat to Hull or not.

Good luck to the our Luis tonight too.

I would like to offer my input the gerrards ongoing injury concerns. I am a physiotherapist and encountered countless sporting injuries. The potential recovery for gerrards injury is very much dependent on the number of steroidal injections he has had as well as the number of times he has played through the injury. When soft tissue is torn it is replaced by scar tissue which although mimmicks the tissue it replaces will never be quite as pliable as what it replaces. Scar tissue lays down in a mass and then once healed will require to be stretched in the line of tissue replaced to ensure it has as much elastic property as possible. If put under stress too early it is more likely to re-tear scar tissue which just results in more being laid down creating a thicker non pliable mass. I am presuming gerrard had got to the stage where this scar thickening needed tidying up as well as possibly repairing the tear. Basically his recovery will be monitored extremely closely because if pushed too soon the set back would be considerable. The point about steroidal injections is that steroidal anti-inflammatories reduce tensile strength of soft tissue (particularly tendons) and ultimately make them more brittle if steroid use is excessive. Basically it is impossible to say without knowing the history how gerrards recovery will pan out but needless to say the medical staffs caution will be very high. In all likelihood given his history of back problems previously in his career there will probably be evidence of pelvic instability which will add to matters but won't bore you with that. He will be undergoing a stringent core rehab programme to help recovery and prevent future problems because any re-occurrence of the injury will significantly reduce the chance of him returning to 100%. sorry for the excessive post and hope you are not all bored to tears. I think this would highlight the chances of him being rushed back or returning where there are any doubts is pretty slim. Cheers greggers.

I just read on a dutch site that we have enquired about Jesus Navas..

Don't think it will happen..

Any thoughts on this Ed's? {Ed002's Note - I refer you to earlier discussion.}

___________

Its been well documnted by Eds JNs chronic home sick problems> Note in the last five years he has walked out on the spanish under 21 team after 2 days citing homesick and anxiety attacks. He refused to go on the clubs american tour for the same reasons. His father and brother picked him up from another training camp as he rang home to say he was sick, amongst other occasions when similar things have happened. He recently signed an extended contract in Jan this year and he also recently got married has no intentions of moving away from his local area. It seems obvious he has travel difficulties and anxiety problems when away from "home" so would not be moving any distance, certainly not a another country.

Liverpool can possibly recoup up to £30million from sales before the transfer window closes. This money should be used to sign a decent center back and a decent left back. Dann and Jensen would be ideal signings to fill these positions and they would cost around £10million each.

Until now the signings are good but with respect to make a competent squad. When you see Chelsea linked with Pastore, Man City going for Aguero( leaving alone the fire power they already have), we should try to bring some flair in our team too. But at the moment getting down wage bill is of highest priority. And then a quality defender is desperately needed. But to break into top four we need some flair on wings or behind the strikers... {Ed002's Note - To be fair, the club have already spend £50M and bought Downing.}

There are different category of fans in here:
1. those with proper rumours,
2. those with wish list,
3. those that view transfers critically and objectively,
4. those that moan and groan about everything,
5. those that look for eds' approval,
6. those that feel macca ain't superstar here,
7. and finally, those that always shout and hound people down.
The category 7 fans are those with these following remarks:
a. get behind the team( mixed with some abusive langs)
b. go and support another team, you muppet and so on ..
I think we all want the best for the team .God bless Liverpool fc and the fans.

The freindlies during the previous two seasons sort of set the tone for the respective season. I recall the 2 nil defeat at Anfield in 2009 where after the game I was downbeat as it was clear for all to see that with the departure of alonso and Arbeloa we were very much disjointed with no shape. The writing was on the wall.

Whilst the 3 nil scoreline isn't what we want to see, there were periods second half where we played some decent stuff. Henderson impressed, the Downing/ Carroll partnership got off to a good start and generally we had the lion share of possession.

Nonetheless, I really don't understand why Kenny hasn't prioritised the left back position. We are also in desperate need of a quality centre half. Our defence was a shambles. Wilson just isn't good enough, i think he'd struggle at U16 level. Insua has to be the biggest left back liability in football, god only knows how he's ended up at Liverpool, the Greek should in reality be know where near a red shirt and Ayala can't read the game. Set piece organisation appeared to have took a backwards step of two years and generally speaking it was a defensive joke. Carra has to be on his last legs, Aggers injury prone, which is a travesty as I personally think he's one of the best footballing center halfs in the premiership and when he plays he invites the pass and move philosophy from the back as opposed to the hoof technique we see in Carra, the Greek and Skirtle. Flannagn promising, kelly poor pre season so far, whats going on there, he looks off the pace and I don't think robinson is ready for the first team jump just yet.

In a nutshell, at least two players of quality are needed to bring in order to achieve some sort of semblance of confidence across the back line.

Come on Mr Henry, don't leave the job three quarters done, the final piece of the jigsaw in defence will give us a squad to push for the title.

There are 3 main positions KK should be focusing on: LB and a CB
I think the reasonable options are;

LB- Either Wayne Bridge( Man City ) or Maxwell ( Barca )

CB- Either Gary Cahill ( Bolton ) or Ryan Shawcross ( Stoke ) or Per Metersacker ( Werder Bremen ( Unlikely))

Do you not think as it stands, our first 11 is far weaker than the 2008/2009 side that finished 2nd. Add City's and Chelsea's improvement and it looks like we will be battling it out with Spurs and Arsenal for 4th and that's if our new signingns manage to gel quickly.

10 mil for Dann, 21 mil for Cahill? Its a no brainer i would rather have Dann anyday of the week, he's Scouse and a LFC fan so would play with a lot more heart than cahill Cant believe if the rumours are tru that we are going to swap N'gog+15mil for Cahill.

Last thing i'll say on Big Andy, he's never going to be she*p off a shovel but at a risk of sounding like a broken record, i saw no problem with his his pace and acceleration from what i saw at Newcastle it was more them adequate for the type of job he's been brought into do, the type of player he is, and i've said before, we'll leave the dribbling to likes of Suarez, Downing and Glenn Johnson. Between him and Suarez its gonna be the next famous partnership we've had over the years. Toshack Keegan, K.K and Rush , more of a three some but Barnes, Aldridge and Beardsley, Barros and Cisse JOKE FOLKS JOKE, Gerrard and Torres and now Suarez and Carroll. Everybody's entitled for their opinion but the Carroll knocker's forget about his England debut against France were he was head and shoulder's{no pun intended}above anyone on the England team. And before the smart apse reply's start to come in saying that wouldn't have been hard England how poor the rest of the team played, but he really did make a brilliant debut against Mexes and i'm sure Ed002 could tell us the other centre half was and how good a player he is if Ed002 doesn't mind. Its alright doing all these fitness drills and whatever they do to get fit in pre season but it just seems he needs to be a bit sharper like the rest of the team, but that will come, just like it did with Newcastle last season. Suarez and Carroll equals an h***in lethal partnership, belive and give it a chance, it'll be worth it. Jonson6 {Ed002's Note - I don't recall the other centre back but it likely have been Adil Rami - who is decent player.}

Why don't Liverpool explore the posibillty of singing Lee Chung-Yong from Bolton. I believe he's a fairly cheap efficient player capable of solving the right side issue. Also has Market potential in Asia. What do you think ed worth a shout?

Ed i hear (of course i could be completely wrong) that Dalglish is a big fan of Adam Johnson (im sure a lot of managers are), and I know that a right winger isn't a priority due to having Henderson and probably G. Johnson playing there next year. However do you think that if A. Johnson were to become available if another winger is signed for City, we will move him? Cheers Ed

Im sick of people saying we should buy foreign talent like lavezzi, mata etc.
Firstly these players are not proven in the EPL and sometimes dont adapt to the pace or strength of the english game.
Secondly the players we have bough are good enough, maybe if Downing was Spanish and Adam was French people would be happy.

24 Jul 2011 12:33:08
i get why people are a little concerned that we've been shipping goals in the pre season games but you have to put it into context, we have played a different 11 in every half of every game so far and haven't even played arguably our 4 best players in gerrard, suarez, lucas or reina in any game yet. our best back 4 just now is probably kelly, carra, agger and johnson (at left back for now) we havent played anything like that yet.

reflecting on the hull game yesterday, we looked very poor in the 1st half but barring carra and kelly not 1 of those players in the 1st half will be a regular starter for us, in 2nd half we looked far more like a starting 11 with adam, downing, carroll, kuyt and henderson all invovlved but we didn't have anything like a recognised back 4 and we played a lot better. these games are all about getting players mins on the pitch, for the rest of the friendlies though i think we'll start to see a more settled 11 playing and for longer, i dont think he will be changing a full 11 at half time, the likes of adam, carroll, downing etc will be getting maybe 60 mins in these games to get them closer to match fitness as the season approaches

so i'm not too worried about the goals we've been conceding (yet) until we see a more settled team out there, plus consider a few of the goals we conceded over in asia, a howler from hansen when he didnt hold onto the ball, an unstoppable free kick and another 1 im pretty sure was offside.

Just a quick post for the people who kept parping on that we would sign Aguero. Well what have you got to say now?. As if he was ever going to sign for us U muppets

24 Jul 2011 11:50:08
i would like to say and i said it before, kenny's signings will make or break him because he has put his trust in over rated over priced british players who are no greater then average for there prices. If we perform poor this season i can only see kenny getting sacked because he has spent alot of money but on the other hand if he does well everyone will be saying he is a mastermind. To be honest i can only see us struggling for 5th or 6th again but doesnt mean i want that to happen but if you look at the prices paid and quality of player i cant see us getting better. too much money for british players that cant beat there man, cant invent much and technically poor. 24 Jul 2011 11:37:31
The problem with andy carroll is:

1. He is not peter crouch, people keep comparing the two simply because of their height. Crouch is a technically gifter player, he's all finesse you could say as he doesn't exactly batter defenses with his physical presence, crouch plays around defences. Carroll is a very typical big english target man, he does not have the technical attributes of crouch, but he is far more physical. Carroll may score the odd couple of goals with his feet, but watch all his goals (I have) 75-80-% are headers. If we play ball to feet with him he will score less. Which brings me too....

2. With carroll in the team there will always be the temptation (especially from carra an skrtel) to hoof the ball to him and bypass our newly formed passing midfield. This ALWAYS happens with a target man. While this is good for carroll its bad for suarez, gerrard, downing as they will see less of the ball and hence create/score less.

3. Playing to head or in the air is more likely to result in a loss of possession. Teams like brazil, barca, spain who play passing possession football don't use a target man. Why? Because of point number 2. Balls in the air are not as safe as balls on the floor. Its easy to retain possession if you're controlling the ball, high passes are more difficult to control and therefore riskier. The one season in the last 3 years that barca didn't win champs league they had ibra, a big target man. Spain have llorente who is on far better form than torres but don't play him.

4. Carrolls price tag. Its not his fault we overpaid for him, but unfortunately he will always have a massive cross to bear. That amount of pressure crushes most players and even did it to torres and kaka. We need to alleviate that pressure from carroll by not asking him to be a 35m player and to just be a good player. Stop holding that against him.

5. He is a big powerful guy with little skill. But he gives an aerial pressence we haven't had since fowler. He can work on his shooting, for the time being let's focus on his strengths and let him head without jdgement

Have some news which has come from a good friend of mine who is a Spurs fan. His 'source' a a close friend of Jonathan Woodgate (well, that what he says).
He has heard that Redknapp and Co have accepted that Modric will be leaving but they are completely unwilling to sell to Chelsea, whatever the offer.
The rumour is that, Spurs are interested in both Cole and Miereles, and have approched Liverpool with a view to negotiating some sort of deal, which will see Modric on his way to us
Personally, cannot see Modric wanting to come, as one of his main reasons in wanting to move is around playing in the champions league.....but you never know (Thought I doubt it very much.....and, before some of you idiots start accusing me of being some sort of numpty....this is a rumours page, and I am just passing on a 'rumour' I have heard).

PS - great site but can I just ask.... Those individuals who sit at home slating everything they read, telling people they are not true fans etc... (you know who you are)...before you respond, bring something constructive to the table... Don't just have a go telling people how wrong they are.... Tell us what you have heard or know

what a numptyliverpool to sign modric sniedjer and david villa by midnight tonight

Would like to know what people think about Suarez's best position? I think it is a waste for him to play out wide on the right (Down left / Carroll centre)

So do we play him with a free role just behind a front man or do we play him perhaps as an out and out CF with perhaps Meireles in behind him in a 4-2-3-1?

I personally think he can be a 30+ a season man if played up top.

24 Jul 2011 10:15:04
can fiorentina back out of signing aquilani permanently like roma did? {Ed009's Note - The details of the contract have yet to be finalised at this time but I very much doubt that, regardless of escape clauses, we will see Aquilani at Liverpool again once he is gone.}

24 Jul 2011 10:05:13
ets save the wages and get a him - lets save the wages and get a combative high scoring player
-----

Not to spoil your point but combatitive players usually don't score more than 10 goals a season as their sole purpose is winning the ball and then giving it to an attacking player.

24 Jul 2011 09:54:58
I hope KK/DC know what they're doing but for team having spent nearly 50M in this window...we looked out of shape, sort and pace
We needed to sign a 'scary' player, might still do...but I'm not looking too forward to the season at the moment...I looked at the match and thought ' no Suarez, no creation or danger to the opposition'...come on KK...come on son

24 Jul 2011 09:47:21
Can anyone explain these constant "wait til Carroll is fit" comments? If a player is not fully fit he possibly can only play part of a game not the entire 90 mins. But surely not being fit cant be used for an excuse of looking sluggish and showing a bad touch from the time they come on the field? The lad is also only 22, how long does it take to get him fit anyways??

I will support the lad, but can't say I'm not concerned that he is not playing well at present and seems way off the pace.

Thought Adam, Hendo & Downing looked good yest. Good signings.

I've got a feeling KK will surprise us with an attacking marquee signing that will excite us and inforce the pass and move philosophy.....

24 Jul 2011 09:06:20
Oh, will ye all just get a grip
For crying out loud, it's PRESEASON.
The purpose here is to a) get the players back to fitness, b) appraise the team, c) try out different combinations and systems, and d) advertise the redundancies or deadwood.
It's not about the results.

Yesterday's showed what most of us knew was lacking. I'm also sure that Kenny picked up a lot of other important detail (e.g. progress and readiness of the young lads).

It's also why the deadbeat Poulsen and and the like have been getting so much game time.

So just CHILL OUT, will ye?
And stop slagging off Carroll.
It's counter-productive.
It does nobody no good.

The kid is our player and will be for some time to come.
Whatever your feelings about him or his price tag, get behind.
Any debate about relating to whether or not he's worth what we paid for him lost its relevance the minute he signed.

I more than any other person know that all are entitled to their opinions. However, there comes a time when an opinion loses its relevance.

Whilst we were trying to get Downing, I was hoping against hope that move doesn't happen. I'd vociferously advanced my argument that Vargas was the better option.

But when the bloke signed, I immediately ceased my stance against the player.
He was now one of us, and I owed to him to give him my unqualified support.

Carrying on lambasting the his signing would've been totally counter-productive and a negativity neither the fans and the club nor the player needed.

My recent comments on Dalglish and Comolli as regards prioritizing Adam and Henderson was not so much "slagging of" as an observation.
I appreciate that what's happened's happened.
The players, management team and coaching team are due our support.

Ed, a question regarding the ship out to swoop for we're currently doing.
Is it a case of us a) having no more money left to spend and having to raise it through the player sales?

b) or, do we infact have the money but have decided to (firstly) lower the wage bill by getting shot of the redundancies before resuming to bring in more players? That deals for targets continue to be negotiated but will only be finalised as and when we're satisfied that enough outgoings have materialised?

Burmeister {Ed002's Note - The club are not broke if that is what you are implying. I seem to be answering this every day, but the club need to clear the decks a little regardless. I am sure that two or three more players will be coming in but the club is already running at a loss. The owners are not going to throw enormous sums of money at t players. The owners want to do the right thing and are being responsible.}

Unless Big Andy scores a s**t load of goals from the get go, he's always going to devide opinion. The reason being is that tall players always seem to get negative remarks, he's cumbersome, slow, someone wrote his technique was poor, and i'm still trying to work some of the comments about him out. Before we bought him, everytime i seen Carroll play he, played very well, dominating games on his own sometimes. Just giving the centre halves nightmares, he gave our centre backs a good hiding and good lesson in how not to play against a tall dominating centre forward, i do know that. Tall players sometimes do LOOK a bit more awkward and not best pleasing on the eye, but their ability and what makes them so effective is still their, seems some folk are pretty shallow and quick at giving their opinion on them. Their classed as ungainly, cant run, cant shoot, only can do is head it but we play it on the deck so why do we need him, why did we pay all that money for him? Not my opinion of him but just some of the things i've read on here about him. I'm just wondering to the poster who said he lacked technique, that was a very general and loose term, what part of his game does he lack technique in?. His heading technique isn't lacking, so thats out. His shooting technique is one of the best at the club, power wise and the ability to keep it down. Newcastle, England and more importantly us have seen the benefit of that. His hold up play is as good as any, as he showed time and again last season. He played with wide players or a least a player in the team at Newcastle. Nothing for him in that respect, when he ripped the best defence in the league and one of the best centre backs in Kompany, started with putting Suarez clean through with the most delicate of passes that ended up with a shot being tipped onto the post, no mention of that. He reacted quickest for his first goal which was a strike of the most perfect technique of how to keep a ball down and to do so while hitting it as hard as he did showed me at least, this guy can shoot and do it better then most give him credit for. Did the same for England against Ghana and of course Newcastle against us. He turned a good ball from Raul M into a great one by showing his great courage and determination to get across and beat Kolorov and score a great header. Just getting tiresome now all this Carroll aint worth his place in the team brigade. He's only just turned 22, never played at this club without a winger till we bought Downing which will bring the best out of him. I'll tell you know that whatever some of our own fans think about him, i bet other teams centre halves think the complete opposite and think, s**t, were playing against that monster today, least its only twice a season he's gonna dominate us. He, like Henderson, who until yesterday also flew under the radar never asked to be transferred for the fee's they went for. If Liverpool came in for most players would they say no? Exactly, and neither did Carroll or Henderson or Downing for that matter. All three will be very important players for us getting off to a flyer, and starting strong, which i defo think they will. Give Carroll a real chance after a full pre season and lets start to judge when the season starts, begining with Sunderland, and show young Wickham how playing as a big man up front in the Premiership is done. Hey, imagine if we had some of THESE players on the bench against Hull - Reina, Skrtel, Agger, Johnson, Aurelio, Lucas, Spearing, Gerrard, Meireles, Suarez, Kuyt, (Suso, Sterling, Morgan).
Stop worrying because Cole and Poulsen couldn't deliver - our first 11 is awesome and could beat any team on its day.

once the fringe players are gone i see us moving for
scott dann 10
alvaro pereira 17.5m
moussa sissoko 12m

24 Jul 2011 01:39:35
jovanovic 65k
degen 55k
el zhar 30k
ngog 40k
poulsen 50k
kyrgiakos 40k
insua 25k
aqualani 70k
a rough guess but that is 375k a week in wages saved if these lot go.add bruna, konchesky, mavinga aswell takes it over 400k a week saved for players who are not wanted and will never make the 1st team.thats 20.8m a year in wages saved.

i didnt include the possible departures
cole 90k
maxi round 70k
meireles round 60k
pacheco 10k a further 230k a week

even though this is a rough guide where some players will be on more or slighty less we need these wages off the bill before we can add the quality we need e.g dann and alvaro pereira.DORSET RED

Downing last season
Assists = 9
Goals = 7

Adam last season
Assists = 9
Goals = 12

Henderson last season
Assists = 5
Goals = 3

So the analysis is
Total assists = 23
Total goals = 22

Suarez and Carrol only joined in January this year so they needed to find their feet.

Carroll last season Newcastle/LFC and he was injured
Assists = 6
Goals = 13

Suarez last season from January
Assists = 5
Goals = 4

Add all of the players stats togheter
Assists = 34
Goals = 39

Our whole team only managed 59 goals the whole season.

Downing, Adam, Henderson, Suarez and Carroll are great signings and will make a huge contributions to the team this season so lets be positive towards them and the whole team.

I'm not normally negative about Liverpool but as much as I like the lad as a person, I think Andy Carroll is going to be some what of a flop at this club. No matter how much fitness he does he will never be quick, I never saw anything great in him at Newcastle to be honest, and its not a good acquisition for the club.

24 Jul 2011 00:11:52
Im fairly confident that Liverpool will score more goals this coming season than they did in their previous last two seasons. However, the defence still looks like it can leak a goal or two. Hopefully Steve Clarke's coaching skills will improve our defensive game play.

23 Jul 2011 23:57:14
Liverpool have to sell players in order to buy. At the moment, Liverpool still have problem areas that need to be sorted before the start of the season.
To fill these problem areas, decent players need to be signed and these players will not come cheap.
To fund such signings, LFC may consider selling Aqualani, Meireles, Poulsen and Jovanovic. Such sales could recoup up to £30million. This would be enough to sign two decent players and end Liverpool's problem of having below par players in certain positions.

23 Jul 2011 23:47:37
Apart from our promising youngsters like Robbo, kelly, flanno, etc, These are the only players good enough to wear LFC Shirt

Gerrard
Reina
Skrtel
Suarez
Henderson
Downing
Adam
Agger
Carragher
Aquilani
meireless
Aurelio
Lucas
Johnson(if played as a winger)
Kuyt(if played as a striker)

the rest are SH**T and a waste of our resources the are wasting money, they should be paying for the own jerseys and other services.

This result will bring some of our over excited supporters back down to earth and stop all this nonsense of keeping the likes of cole, insua & maxi they are simply not good enough for EPL. It also highlights the need for better and quicker defenders.

Plus points: Hendo (good touches & runs from deep) Downing (provided width) Carroll (looks fitter than in the last game).

Signs of progress for the up and coming season. Can't wait for the season to start. Hope we can get rid of about 5 or 6 players and buy a LB, CB & a skilful RW (maybe LEE from Bolton) I would have kyte as the 3rd choice striker and try to off load Ngog.

100% behind the Kenny.
