Ed1 whenever I see cavani I don't see any thing speacial then again when I come to the site many fans say he is best striker in the world we should buy him is he worth the money or i have seen different player {Ed002's Note - Ed001 has disappeared, but Cavani will not be moving to Liverpool.}

Have you ever trolled?

Fat Jan here ed's. Anyone with any links to Hoillets situation know if theres been any recent update.

I know there is a signing on fee that would be due to the player as he's on a free but surely nothing along the lines of the 10-12 mi being quoted for Dempsey and with his age he's got to be a better investment for FSG.

Can anyone enlighten me why he hasn't been snapped up since 1st July when he officially became available by anyone?

FatJanMolby {Ed001's Note - because he is asking for 70k a week and a large signing fee, he simply isn't worth it. Dempsey is a better player and the price would not be much different in reality, despite the fact Hoilett has no contract.}

Hi Ed's

Its a while since I last posted.

Do you think that any of these tabloid rumours can be believed regarding AC. I think that he can and will be a big impact for us this year .I would certainly give him that chance to work and fit the system.I look at it this way we could have Suarez ,Carroll ,Borini as a multi positional front three. Back up ,Bellamy,Downing ,Sterling.

Any ideas if this is plausible or am I just talking out my back door ? (LOL)

REDFORLIFE {Ed001's Note - I am not sure which rumours exactly you are referring to. There is still a very good chance he will leave, certainly (despite what is said publicly) he would love to return to Newcastle, it is his home and the team he supports. His wages are within their budget. The only question is whether they will pay enough to make it worth our while selling him.}

I think it pretty obvious to everyone (apart from the Geordies) that he didnt want to leave in the first place! It was fat Ashleys greed that outed him .He would go back like a shot! If he goes I for one hope he does really well, I just cnt help liking him, even though he hasnt really done it for us!

Cant help but think pepe reina is going, does anyone know when hes ment to be joining up with squad?

He possibly wont, he went to the final of euro 2012 with spain and might not want to cut his holiday short, borini has cut his holiday short to meet new team mates and start to fit in and understand the club, pepe doesn't need to do this, he will join up with the club back in the UK

August 1st. Month off after Euros.

Well Borini was told to join up "at the start of August" but came back early. I presume Reina was given the same instruction because he got his holiday from the Euros at the same time.

We've had "Reina will leave" for at least 2 consecutive summers and he remains a Liverpool player, however.

Eds. Great site.do u think Allen ,Dempsey will be our only 2 signings or more to come depending on anyone leaving {Ed019's Note : Expect maybe a winger or two after departures }

24 Jul 2012 21:05:40
Hello Ed's and readers.
I would like your thoughts on the thoughts going on inside my head since I watched the Toronto game.
Having watched some of the younger players perform I have come to the conclusion that we do need to find the right balance with who we need to buy/sell etc.
My squad would be:

Reina,Gulacsi,Jones,
Johnson,Kelly, Flanno
Enrique,Robinson, ( 1 more needed)
Sama,Wilson,Skertel,Carra,Coates,Agger,Wisdom
Gerrard,Lucas,Henderson,Suso,Sterling,Spearing and Shelvley and Texeira (this lad destroyed us in both games against us for sporting lisbon's youth team and will be one hell of a player.( 2 more needed)
Suarez,Borini,Carroll,Bellamy, Morgan (1 more needed
I would send Ibe out on loan (if possible as he is only 16) I would also send Adorjan out on loan if possible.
I would sell Adam,Cole,Aqua,Downing for certain.
I have included Spearing in my squad but am not 100% on him. I think he is overawed a bit and does not demand the ball as much as he should.
Unsure about Pacheco but would give him another year.
Now I think that is a half decent squad as it is but if we got rid of the mentioned players plus some younger players ie. Eccelston. Then we could generate 10-15 Million. If we have 20 million for signings then this would get us to around 30-35 million pounds in my opinion.
A left sided defender, a holding midfield player, two creative players and a forward and I think thats a great squad with the right mix of young and experienced players....
Ed, are you still awake?... ha ha.
Seriously I would love your thoughts on this...
Thanks
jonnybarnes89-90

Swap Aquilani with Spearing.

If I'm hounest I think you've got a bit to carried away with the amount of players leaving the club and amount of players coming in. Realistically say if joe Allen and clint Dempsey were to sign, that would mean the departure of either Adam or aqualani and either spearing or shelvey on loan. With the addition of Dempsey I think it's fair to say Bellamy would be on his way because he wants first team football and he won't be getting it. If Carroll and/or Downing were to then leave (only two players I can see rogers willing to let leave) then replacements would be signed.

I think ibe is too young to go on loan.could wilson not play left back and maybe agger if needed.Tommy Irish Red.

Remember a few years back when we bought Steve McMahon from Villa he insisted on his younger brother signing also, as part of the deal? So we got the McMahon brothers, only problem was his brother was awful and eventually dissappeared to non league? I think.

Dear all,
Looking forward to getting football back into the week's agenda and confident that we will show improvement over last year. I'm sure that there are many EPL clubs who would like to have:

- Stevie G, Suarez, Reina, Agger, Lucas and stalwarts like Carra
- our tradition
- our upcoming youth players
- our supporters

Time to have some faith in FSG and the new Manager to take the Club forward.

Good luck to LFC and all those who support the club

Carragher really? He is a 85,000 - 90,000 a week waste of money now. I am struggling with the fact that we will pay him this amount to sit on the bench and watch. It seems ludicrous to me, to pay him so much when the club is losing money hand over fist.

I'm still confident Andy Carroll will stay at Liverpool. Can't see Newcastle paying £13 million and giving up the £7million still due by Liverpool. We have a long season ahead and though we will probably add Dempsey there's still a role for Andy.

Derek llambias interview after carroll was sold for £35million, dont know where the £7million outstanding has come from...

Llambias explained: "It is about control. We had the control. We knew the Torres deal was there. We drew that f****** deal, perhaps the ultimate. So £30m? F*** off! Don't waste my time and I slammed the phone down.

"£35m? Everybody including Pardew [manager Alan Pardew] all agreed. But the £35m they wanted to pay over four years. It was rubbish. Mike (Ashley) said - and he is a brave boy Mike I promise you - get all the £35m up front. We got it all up front and then they never paid us on time and we charged them 12 grand f****** interest."

We should do the same to themm then.

Llambias sounds a charmer doesn't he?

I had heard the deal was actually £15M on top of what we had to pay for Carroll for Torress and Chavs paid it to us and Newcastle. anyone else heard the same?

Hi guys. I just wonder what sort of people use this site with all the abuse the ed's get and the amount of people who are against B.R. before he has had a chance to show us what he can do and then all the people who don't like the owners and what they are doing?? What do these people want?? We have good owners who want to succeed both on and off the pitch. We have a good young manager with good ideas and a good style of playing. And then the ed's who do their best to run a good site for us all and give us a forum to chat and try and guess who may or may not be joining the club. I just wish people would appreciate what we have cause it's not that long ago that we really were in a mess!! Rant over.

Heard that Higuain is not very happy at Madrid and would prefer to move to the premier league. Do you think that BR would be willing to take a gamble to bring him in or do you expect him to move to Manchester City?

Personally mate, I think Higuain, like Ramirez, would be dream signings. I would love to see them play in front of the Kop. Realistically though, I just don't think it would happen at the stage we're currently at (Higuain I'd say is unrealistic, though not impossible - Ramirez would be a little more likely).

If things go according to plan over the next few years and we reach (and manage to maintain) the goals we're aiming towards, there'll be no reason why we'll get these type of players in eventually.

At the end of the day, whoever the club brings in for next season and seasons after this one, they'll be playing in red so I'll wholeheartedly support them - this includes our current crop of players like Adam, Henderson, Carroll, etc. no matter if they've had a poor start to their Liverpool careers or not. It's in the blood mate.

common sense really.

Of course its gonna bring in revenue, what a silly assumption.

Bet if it was Chelsea you would be saying different.

"The fee for Torres was dependent on what Newcastle asked for Carroll," Henry said, explaining that Liverpool wanted Carroll, plus £15m, to replace Torres. Together with the £6m sale of Ryan Babel to Hoffenheim, that effectively financed Liverpool's £22.8m signing of Luis Suárez, meaning the club bought two strikers but net, spent almost nothing. "The negotiation for us was simply the difference in prices paid by Chelsea and to Newcastle," Henry said. "Those prices could have been £35m [from Chelsea for Torres] and £20m [to Newcastle for Carroll], 40 and 25 or 50 and 35. It was ultimately up to Newcastle how much this was all going to cost. They [Newcastle] made a hell of a deal. We felt the same way." - John Henry

I know Henry said this but I seem to remember following BBC Sport live updates on transfer deadline day and reading that we had bids of 25m then 30m rejected for Carroll before 35m was accepted. I also doubt we'd have left Newcastle and Chelsea to negotiate between themselves. So while you're right that Henry said that I'm not sure how much truth there is in it

I read earlier someone commenting that we don't need Allen and that we need someone creative to sit in the centre of the pitch and make things happen. Someone with flair, precise passing and skill. Well step forward Suso!

He may not be ready for regular football, but he seems destined to be that player. Personally I see an ambitious player, who may lack a little consistency but brings something exciting that spark, that both he and Sterling can offer the team in the forth coming seasons.

Young players need to be utilised carefully and not too regularly as sometimes their bodies just aren't ready.
Everyone always highlights Arsenals youth model, but look at Cesc, Wilshire and others. All were playing extremely regularly and most have suffered quite horrendous long term recurring injuries. We don't way this fate for our young players and we also don't want them to end up like Pacheco, believing there own hype before they've contributed regularly to LFC football club.

We are in a rare position of having the makings of 4 plus high quality youth players actually make it, I'm includin the two above, plus Robinson and Kelly. I have hope for others but feel these four will become international class and possibly world if they fulfil their potential.

We've got to show young players coming to the club that we know how to nurture young players correctly and responsibly. It's worth barring in mind that most of the starlets agents are often Uncle's, Fathers or other family members. They want the best for their player and sometimes that isn't just the payslip or guaranteed starts after 3 months. Its showing that we can give them that platform to long term greatness, not just a pedestal to move to Barca or to piss their fortune up the wall.

Developing youth effectively and utilising it at the right time is the bench mark we need to set. We need to build that model, something sustainable for the future as we're not run by oil or a toy or a billionaire. If Rodgers fulfills what I hope he will, we'll see that long term goal achieved but that change needs embracing and not just crying to multi million pound buys for the elusive quick fix.

Papa G

Some one who see's sence aswell of course we don't need Allen we already havve a better prodpect in shelvey.
I would rather spend money on a quality winger and striker...

Excellent positive post!

Everybody is different some are ready at 18/19 to play, some are not. Munain has been playing for a couple of seasons now and how old is he?
You only know if they are ready by trying them, physical apppearance also has zilch to do with it? A lot of truly great footballers are only slight of build.
Injuries also can happen at any stage of your career?
On a football field, experience will never win out over pure class and ability.

Im friends with David Burrows who keeps in contact with Robbie Fowler he has discussed many potential signings but has said that Allen,Dempsey will sign and that Andy Carroll will be a Liverpool player at the start of the season

Random fact: I used to go out with david Burrows sister in law, he got me tickets to Coventry V Liverpool years ago - top lad!

Matty p

Hope so mate . I know last season didn't start to well but towards the end he was unplayable and really think he looks loads fitter in pictures I have seen . I think a front 3 of Borini , Carroll , Suarez is a very good attack . He has a good touch which brings others into play but also very good in defensive areas too ( ie corners ) .

Really hope Carroll stays, we'd be mad to let him go

No one wants him the only teams that can afford him have better options already.
There's no doubt he's a good player but players like borini,Suarez.gerrard, will have to play for him, as the adam downing long delivery does not suit an average touch less than mobile player, but there's no doubt he can make room for himself and finish with a bit of time to get his bearings it's up to our speedy clever players to make the time and space for him to smash home.

Unplayable?? Like scored loads of goals?
Unplayable? Are you sure?

A word for the people predicting the future of both young and older players off he back of the Toronto game. Chill out. Most of the kids will not appear in a meaningful game this season. Someone like Joe Cole should not be written off because he's rusty and Dani Pcheco isn't a world beater because he did well for 20 mins against a Canadian defender. They are pre-season games and the players are just gradually getting fit.
MOTD fever is one thing but friendly fever is ridiculous.

PieInTheSkyMan

Agree but Joe Cole should be written off cos he's gash, not cos hes rusty though

I watched the 11v11 training video on LFCtv and Pacheco was turning people inside out .. I think he might do well if giving the chance.

I have no new information to add, asked around and nobody has any stuff to pass on. I do think a few will come and go, it would not surprise me to see Skirtel, Suarez, Adam, Carroll and Aqualani go. Which in turn would see at least Dempsey and Allen plus another to striker come in. The change to 433 affords Suso, Cole, Pacheco, Morgan, Adjoran, Sterling an opportunity I would guess. I would like to keep Suarez, not sure FSG do though, feel sorry for big Andy but thats football. On the Skirtel issue, one great season the others I thought he was vulnerable and centre half is well covered, so if the cash on offer is good then take it. Kelly, Carra, Coates, Wilson, Wisdom all can cover. Its wait and see time.

I don't think it's a must at all. If he's not producing on the pitch, why should we keep paying his wages? It's easy to say he's one for the future but so were neil mellor, david ngog and dani pacheco.

Please don't badmouth mellor. he was good, just injury prone. also benitez rarely brought through youth players.

RE a Carroll question down the page regarding Carrolls fee:

I have heard Liverpools only part in the negotiating was asking to end up with Carroll and £15m in exchange for Torres.

Newcastle and Chlesea decided the prices. Newcastle quoted £35m thinking Chelsea would refuse to pay £50m for Torres (in order for us to get our £15m difference) however Roman always gets his man!

Therefore, we actually got Carroll + £15m for Torres. Carrolls fee, is irrelevant, and is completely down to Chelseas stupidity in being willing to pay £50m for Torres. The debate really isn't:
"is Carroll worth £35m?"
BUT REALLY
"Would you rather have Torres, or £15m + Carroll?"

My opinion, is i'd rather have spent the extra £15m better...

If i'm wrong i'm sure the editors will clear it up, but thats just what i've heard...

YNWA! (Adam)

So if Torres was bought for 16 million, Carroll would be 1 million?

Whilst you're correct with 15m and Carroll, I'd prefer something like Defoe and 35m rather than Carroll and 15m. Carroll was a bad buy for Liverpool [not saying he is a bad player] and that 50m could have been spent better not the 15m.

BthekingB

I think your walking alone on this one adam !
kopace

Re-read the post and use your head. Newcastle quoted the price of Carroll, and Chelsea had to pay £15m more than that to us for Torres. Chelsea had no choice in the fee, they just had to accept, decline, or negotiate.

YNWA! (Adam) {Ed002's Note - Just the three choices then.}

Oh god. i like these stories and your great imagination but this is what reaally happened.

liverpool sold torres. liverpool wanted replacment. and carroll wasnt the top of the list. carroll was the best we could get after we had the money for torres.

the owners took a risk paying that money for someone who'd only been in the prem for 6 months.

we will never have superstars on huge wages at the club besides 1 or 2 like gerrard.

the reason liverpool were willing to pay big money last summer because they werent paying superstar wages.

its not that we cant attract big players. we just cant pay the wages until we start qualifying for champions league and start making a profit.

I ever said i made it up, or i had a source etc. I just read an article at the time that said this... and obviously not Ed002, but i don't understand exactly how transfers work because i'm 18... jheez, you answer a question with some information thats not even yours and you get slaughtered for it...

YNWA! (Adam) {Ed002's Note - Clubs will typically informally ask an agent (a) if the player is going to be available, and (b) would the player consider a move to the club. If the answer is yes, it is then necessary for the club to approach the player's club to ask if they would be willing to sell and if they would grant permission to speak to a player's agent and possibly even the player. This will typically involve either broadly (through an offer) or actually agreeing a fee and responsibility for any significant costs (agents fees etc.). Once this has happened the club will be able to speak to the player's agent and perhaps the player himself to look at the package that will be involved. So many players are looked at and discussed at a high-level with agents and clubs; a subset of those have an offer placed; a subset of those involve discussions with the player's club; a subset of those involve discussions over terms, and; a subset of those go ahead.}

YNWA! (Adam)

Sorry Adam but used to roll out that one when on the face of it, with what we got out of Andy Carroll before Christmas, we could have quoted £50m ourselves to Chelsea and sat on it until January or bought Ba, Cisse and Cabaye and still had £20-£25 million in January to try and kick on. It's nice to think the club quoted Carroll plus £15m but if they did it shows that we had no clue when dealing in the transfer market. If they'd said Carroll plus £25million do you think Chelsea would have paid £60million? No, Ashley would have taken less. Comolli was poor at negotiating.
Brooksey1973

Not the stupidest thing I've ever heard but very close.
Unlucky, mate.
Rigsby.

When you look back at these transfers, and the ones the summer after, commoli and kennys judgement stinks to have wasted so much money on ' potential'.

What odds does this all make or what is it relative to adam...so what what the deal was...carrol is worth more than what is bein guessed at by the press , but who cares as long as the club start feathering our own nest instead of every other tom dick or harrys !

Adam is right to be fair. And the way I see it, if we sell Carrol for a loss of 15m, we would have effectively ended up with 35m for Torres, and tbh that is about what he was worth. Remember we only kept Torres because no one was willing to pay that sort of money for such a injury prone player with a stinking atttitude.

Hi guys

been watching the videos on the club website plus the game on sat.

i've got to say i've been well impressed with pacheco.
i know its only pre-season but even so it looks like the lad is getting stuck in and he looks good, far better than many others (cole/adam)

technically it's never been in doubt but i understand he's had issues in the past - attitude, laziness, arrogance - prob thinking he's better than he is.

however to me looks like he's been given a clean slate by big bren and he's taking it - or at the very least trying.

i sincerely hope he does..i've always rated him, would be a v useful squad player and i might even say borderline starter, if no others come in.

a front three of suarez, borinin, pacheco playing in the 4-3-3 doesn't sound so bad. what d'ya think ed?

Is there a young Argentinian "jewel" we could be interested in Ed002?

Chris in Tamworth {Ed002's Note - Argentinian? Or Brazilian?}

I think he's currently at a Brazilian club but definitely Argentinian

Chris in Tamworth {Ed002's Note - Ah, OK Chris.}

Brazilians leave me with a rash ..so argies for me !

Is it the New New Neymar?

Yeah, he's called Lionel messi.

If he is Brazillian you can add 10m on his price tag and he'll end up being useless.

Unbelievable that Scum are paying 30m for Lucas Moura, a super sub for the olympic team.

Unless the Owners are generally sh1t then I really dont see why we are talking about them, they should be in the background and nothing more... and to be honest I think they are! Back in the 80s and further back no-one even heard of an owner, the first one was Murdock and we all know what happened there... then it was the other clown doing keepy ups at Utd. FSG in my opinion have done a steady job and thats all im interested in... there not Sheik's so lets not compare them to City and who-else. They have done what they said and I am happy with this. Let post about the bloody team!

Did you know there are still some Liverpool 'professional' bloggers who won't admit that buying Carroll Adam downing and hendo for all that dosh was probably a bad investment.
They'll just come out with excuses and give you the money ball bull shine.

That's because like quite a few fans they have their Kenny specs on and won't admit that he fu***d up.

Kenny Dalglish was not involved in negotiating the price of players, that was Commolis job. Stop trying to blame him for things that were out of his control.

What ever happened to common decency and LFC renowned intelligence of supporters ?

Hi ed002,
Do you know whether liverpool have any real interest in signing Gerard Deulofeu as he said he wants first team football. Thanks:) {Ed002's Note - I don't know what is happening with Deulofeu.}

All this talk about getting fourth is not realistic also we know Lucas is back, but will he be the same? The same player you all slated for years. And as for Andy Carroll, after being shifted out of Newcastle against his will and now he wants to stay at LFC I find it disrespectful how the manager and owners are treating him. How can our club demand respect when they don't give it themselves! Also joe cole talkin to the sun...... Get out, you obviously don't have a clue son!

Agree what is all this about 4th place!!!I think we'll get 3rd place at least.

So when I was younger, I wanted to be a doctor and that stayed with me for a while. I went somewere with my life and became a chemical engineer. If I had not set my ambitions high I wouldn't have got as high as I have.

Point being, if Liverpool's ambition for next season is to finish 4th and we finish 5th - 6th that's an improvement on 8th. So people being ambitious is human nature, live with it buddy

You don't know that the manager and owners are treating him disrespectfully. i remember brendan saying that he had a chat with him an he knows where he stands. don't believe everything you read.

If our midfield 3 contains Allen Gerrard and Lucas, then I feel we will struggle again, there is no player who can beat a man, has very good technical ability or has any trickery. We have been crying out for a player like this for years. Allen is a passer, Lucas is a defensive player and Gerrard is a box to box/passer, none of which are renown for their dribbling ability. We need that Suarez type player in our midfield to really compete next year, so for me we need to forget about Allen and go for Ramirez, Diego or Honda all of which would cost around 15m (ramirez maybe closer to 18m). One of those and a quality forward player would get us back to top four this year!

RDR

Disagree.
kidmillions

Diego is trouble and Ramirez is looking less and less likely and I wish I mind control Rodgers into buying Honda though.

None of Xavi, Busquets and Fabregas are really known for their dribbling ability, are they? We don't need someone who can dribble from the midfield as we want to control the midfield not waste possession. Suarez will do the dribbling and if we sell him we'll buy someone similar who can dribble past someone.

BthekingB

Thats why teams play with WINGERS also allen can beat a man

Lil Red

To be honest, BthekingB, Iniesta is.

Allen's pretty good on the ball, I don't want my central midfielders trying to beat men and getting caught out of position when they lose it, I want them with good movement, smart passing and good close control. In my book, Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, and even Henderson, Aquilani and Shelvey have this in abundance

Red Ollie

What's the best quality for a midfielder = To be able to pass a balland tackle. Luca/Gerrard/Allan all extremely good at this.

In a 4-3-3 the trickery comes from the front

redphil

Funny how united won a league without a central midfielder truly renowned for his dribbling. the ball moves faster than a player and a team playing quick and simple passes will find it it is easier to get free and find gaps than a team of dribblers.

If carroll stays he's gonna need to get more mobile
If he goes we must have a proper cf tried and tested in, as borini should play lf and Suarez rf. Llorente or Defoe or bent not that fussy, they don't have to be the most talented just be able to score under pressure, just don't want the pressure on borini and Suarez is harder to handle coming in from different areas and his finishing can be a tad erratic.

I tried to ignore it, I really did. But whenever someone mentions Darren Bent I just can't help replying. I mean; cow's ass + banjo = fresh air shot. And mentioning him alongside Llorente in that way, as if they're on a par. The post suggests that you think Bent can score under pressure - it could even be true, I don't know. What I do know is that he really knows how to miss when under no pressure at all.

Kezman was a great goalscorer in holland before moving to chelsea where he continued his great... oh wait.

What a load of clap trap, Werner:- "we have the resources to be competitive but don't see the need to spend £50 mill on an individual player".

Interpreted as:-"we can't compete with the big boys financially but we'll keep feeding the fans spin as we're happy with developing additional income streams."

£10 mill spend without selling players, do us a favour Werner and keep your spin to yourself, it's an insult.

Ozone

Ozone we have 5 weeks of the 8 week international transfer window left. Chill

I don't want us to be buying players for £50 million either. Stop moaning.

Kev.

That's not the point Kev, I just don't want to here clap trap from a spiv like Werner. We are mid table, our transfer spending is consistent with mid table so the owners should stop with the "we've got resources, we're winners", nonsense.

If they've got resources and want to beginners, then spend like City or Chelsea. If not shut up nd stop the spin.

Ozone

Suggestion for you Ozone- perhaps you could contact FSG and ask to chip a few million to become a partner? Seems like you just think everyone should spend loads of money, so perhaps you can start?

So kev If barca contacted liverpool an said messi is ours for 50mill you wouldn't wana spend it shut up ye muppet

Scouse not irish

This is a serious question Ozone- how much of your hatred for the owners has to do with the fact that they're American rather than their actions? You're pretty consistent I think in your anti-Americanism and I have a feeling if the owners did the exact same thing they're doing now but were from Liverpool you wouldn't be on here moaning about them all the time.

Yeah, because Barca are going to sell Messi for £50 million aren't they. Then Real Madrid will sell us Ronaldo for £30 million.
We won't be spending £50 million on a player so stop moaning about it. Or go and support City, Chelsea or PSG.

Muppet

Kev.

Actually like Wenger or not he is one of the most realistic of managers and will not get his club into stupid amount of debt!

For all you glory boys who want a club to shell out 100+ millions...its not for free you know?! Nobody is going to give out crazy money without wanting to make sure they are doing well themselves.

We spent 100 million and it didnt get us success did it?
gareth

I wouldn't be moaning if the owners were local as we probably wouldn't have to endure meaningless spin. Werner doesn't have to spend £50 mill on a player, FSG just have to sign Allen, Dempsey and keep Carroll and I'm sure we'll all be happy but that's not going to happen.

Ozone

Ozone - 50m on one player or 50m on 3 players. I know what i would do. Football is a team game.
The intention, as i believe is a 2 stage strategy, get into CL then buy big when we can afford the wages.
Last thing Ozone do you know what happening at Pompey- Do you want that, because we have the funds to buy players but paying them for 5 years beyond what the club can afford result in 1 thing = No Club anymore

redphil

Ozone these owners are tried and tested. our club is turning over huge debt every year and our owners are trying to make us sustainable. i don't think a 50 million pound signing will come in anytime soon and i don't want one either because BR has hardly been at liverpool long enough to spend sensably 50 million pounds on one player
derryred

I think your missing my point lads, the £50 mill on one player is a figure of speech used by Werner. I'm not saying we should spend at the level on an individual. I'm happy with Borini, Allen and Dempsey but keep Carroll as I can see we would have the right balance and strength in depth to challenge for top 4. £30 mill on 3 players, isnt unrealistic if the owners want champions league football. If they don't then as I say, cut the spin Mr Werner, we don't want to here it.

Hi guys/gals/eds, its commen knowledge amongst most fans what positions need to be filled and surprisingly by whom, lets hope the management/owners are on the same page.I understand how the owners will be reluctant to splash the cash again this season after what happened last year,BUT! lets hope what money that is available is spent wisely.ROGERS is in a differcult position trying to evaluate his players and deciding who goes and who stays and in such a short space of time after the euros, I hope he keeps CARROLL and sells some of the others who are not up to scratch,I also believe we can finish in the top FOUR with some smart management and COACHING and the right couple of players coming in and very IMPORTANT they read this site.(godin)

Well said! Been getting down with all the negativity on here lately, the whole squad has only just got together! BR needs to assess them all to see who he needs and who he does'nt.

Very over rated in my opinion, had one reasonable season in the premier league with a high passing rate, but hasn't really contributed to any goals or really stood out in a pretty average team.

E.H LFC

Are you sure you,ve seen him play? Looks very good to me? Our midfielders couldn't get near him, home and away last season.

I believe he scored 4 goals last season. He isn't there to score goals mate, he is there to keep the ball, just like Xavi does. Xavi doesn't score loads of goals does he? What is with you fans who think every player in the midfield needs to be capable of scoring 20 goals a season or they are bad? Get a grip

Have you seen Modric's statistics for goals and assists? Very ordinary. But what he does is make the passes to the attacking players in better positions who then create the chances or score the goals.

Assists and goals for don't tell the whole story.

i have been very quiet about the transfer situation at liverpool, i been reading this page almost everyday and looking at who we are being linked to. Let me first say a big thank you to the eds02 who answered my question the other time when i posted on abt 2mths ago i am the guy from Singapore if you can remember me it was my first posting on this site and this is my second posting so hear me out again. Fabio Borini , i am on the fence about his transfer as i honestly can say i have never seen him play much in the EPL as well as serie A so i cant say anything negative or positive about him, BUT i can say alot of thing about FSG and the players we are being linked to lets start off with JOE ALLEN if we do get him, how is HE like ALONSO.......How is he like John Barnes or better still how is he like Jamie Redknapp, we need players like the above i mentioned players who will become legen for liverpool and with a heart for liverpool. This guy loses the ball all the time when he plays for swansea and he never does anything special 15 mil price tag on him same thing like henderson a waste of space and money. Dempsey, well his good when he comes forward in Counter attacking style of play passing is ok his got good creative movements which will help suarez and Borini BUT again his 30yrs old how many more years does he have left to play. Seriously FSG are we going for players like this Allen and Dempsey there is really no Intent from FSG in this transfer window that says " We are going for top 4" it looks like this with the bunch of players we are linked with" we are going for TOP 6 again" are we serious about mounting for the title in a years time or 2 how many time are we going to change manager again Liverpool is a laughing stock when it come to transfers targets buying players like adam , henderson , downing and caroll , we should buy players like adam Johnson putting a bid for David Hoilett or walcott or try to sign santi carzola getting a powerful striker like lorentte , Higuain or even Jovetic what FSG are doing is basically spending smartly and not paying too much for a player because of the investment of andy caroll which didnt pay off but they should not think this way if they want a top 4 placing.
So tell me eds is this rumours of allen and dempsey real cause if they are its laughing stock . It really is

Mate, how long have you been an lfc fan, you know sweet fa about us. And if you think Allen gives the ball away all the time you need glasses, he almost the highest pass completion rate in Europe, only xabi, Iniesta better!

Why don't watch a sport less taxing on the brain? Like cricket or tennis.

I just wanted to point something out. A lot of people have complained about signing Borini but at the same time some have praised it and I don't want to leave the good fans out. Lets look at it this way, how many of you knew who Torres was before we bought him? Yes he had played in the 2006 World Cup but he was only around the age of 21 then. Now i'm not saying I want him back or anything but he did know where the back of the net was while he played for Liverpool. But if you go and look at the seasons leading up to when we bought him, his goals per minutes played was even less than Borini's. He was only scoring roughly 14 to 15 goals per season while playing 40 games. Now as the EDs have said, Borini had some down time because of an injury and only play about half a season. His goals to minutes played ratio was just under 50% which is better than the player that we all used to call a legend. Now i'm not saying Borini will for sure light up the EPL but no one knew that other players in our past would either, like Torres. I have not seen a lot of Borini because I don't watch a lot of the Italian league but he could easily surprise us. Basically to sum this up, wait till you see him play before you say he is a bad signing. Just because you didn't sign him in FIFA 12 does not mean he won't do a job for us. Who cares who other teams are signing, let them throw stupid money around. Because at the end of the day, whether we get top four, win the league, or end up in the championship I will always support this team and be proud of that so stop complaining and harassing the EDs because at the end of the day we are Liverpool, the greatest team in the world.

Red Rat

Every1 knew who Torres was long b4 he signed for us. Pretty sure he had been linked with most of europes top clubs. I hope borini is he has big boots to fill if u think he'll b our next Torres.

Ohhhh her we go,i surpose he is going to be the next pele or the next big thing to come out of Brazil, please dont start with all the usual crap.

Honest question on this as I don't understand how this works (partly maybe because I'm not British, so the work laws confuse me a bit)- so LFC would have difficulty signing say an 18 year prospect from Brazil for the first team since they didn't have an EU passport and hadn't played the requisite number of games for the international side but can sign a 15 year old with no problems? How does that work?

Well McLaren suggests that he has british roots.

I've said before that I'd take Darren Bent and most other posters seem against it. He seems to be being linked again so I'd like to know why wouldn't you want a goalscorer like Bent?
His goal return is getting on for 1 in 2, is that not good enough for you?
Why does it seem to be that so many people don't want a striker who actually scores goals?
Explain please

Chris in Tamworth

And how many chances does he need?

He would not get on with our main striker

I'd agree that Bent is a decent player who does score goals, but it does also take him quite a few shots before he finally buries it. My biggest concern though would have to be his age. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think he's 28 going on 29? In other words, coming towards the end of his prime. Add on to the fact that his price tag would easily be in excess of £15m and the fact that he does get injured and I feel all you've got a is slightly better version of Jermain Defoe. Now why would we take him over Carroll (who I'll admit had a poor season) but is young, 3rd choice England Striker and on his day, Unplayable. Not only that but why would you take Bent over Dempsey? A more versatile player, only a year older, with hardly a bad medical history and more importantly a better goalscoring record than Bent for last season.

Very average player. Even spurs rated Defoe as better. Says it all really.
Jason

It might be because you like him Chris; your knowledge of the game has always seemed so limited that maybe everyone equates a thumbs up from you to a death knell for quality :)
Milamber

It might be because you like him Chris; your knowledge of the game has always seemed so limited that maybe everyone equates a thumbs up from you to a death knell for quality :)
Milamber

Bent's level is mid table, really don't think he has the ability to perform under the intense pressure at a club like Liverpool.
In Bent's defence very few players do? As we all know?
kidmillions

For £20 mill I would not in a million years take bent as there are better strikers than him that cost a lot less that play better football and score more goals. If the sum was more like 8mill then were talking business.

So I see from all the replies so far that nobody actually has a good and valid reason why they don't want Bent.
Except of course that he does score a lot but it takes him a lot of chances.
Is that opposed to a player who doesn't score a lot and doesn't create a lot of chances?
And you think my football knowledge is poor?

Chris in Tamworth

I for one would definitely take darren bent. Puts the ball in the net, doesnt over complicate things by coming too deep. knows his job and does it alot better than many others in the league.

For me, I don't think Bent is a bad player at all. He's a good poacher and generally reads the game well.

However, I don't think time is on his side though as he's getting on in age and playing on the opposition CB's shoulder gets tougher as you get older. I also don't think he does enough on defense to fit into BR's pressing game. We also just got Borini who is a younger, yet similar, style of player.

Those are the reasons I don't see Bent making sense for LFC at this point in time, although, again, I don't think he's nearly so bad as some people make him out to be.

Downing was great for villa as well.
1 season and 1 league goal later......
Harry called it right!
"My mum could have scored that" or words to that effect....
jonnybarnes89-90
P.S I actually thought Downing would be a good signing... I have taken up fishing now!

Chris, like you i think in terms of Bent being a solid goalscorer he truly is. He has been consistent for the most part over the last few years and his stats were never far behind the 1-2 other highest goalscorers in the league

Do i want him for LFC? I did but my reason for saying no now would be that i think he has become a little predictable in his movements and has also lost a bit of his natural speed and strength. He wasn't the fastest anyhow but he always has shown a good turn of pace.

Anyway, this is my honest reason for saying no thanks...at least not for £20 million. For £10 million i would be far more happy

gareth

I wouldn't pay 20 million either but at the right price he'd do for me

Chris in Tamworth

He is just too injury prone for me. i have no doubt he will get the cances at liverpool and score the goals but i wand a player who will be there all of the time. i'd take carroll over him as to get him we will have to sell carroll.
derryred

Agreed, but what price would that be? I doubt he would be sold for less than £15 million and then with add ons etc i think he would be £17-20 million...maybe too much?

hey eds, is it true that we have signed William Oliveira Souza ?........RED INDIAN {Ed019's Note - Seems so}

Not at all...the player spoke to an interviewer confirming that he has received a contract from us but he was waiting on other teams that have confirmed interest...let's not get ahead of ourselves...

ed have we signed William McLaren? {Ed019's Note - Seems so}

24 Jul 2012 11:02:29
Any news on walcott eds? besides him being injury prone, i think he will really suit rodgers style of play and finally liverpool could have a more attacking formation with suarez LF , walcott RF and borini CF... {Ed019's Note - Nope}

Say we buy Walcott for 15 mill because we all know arsenal would not sell him any cheaper than that, do you think that's more attractive than say Kevin mirralas who would cost us 7-8 mill max (also considering walcotts wages would be double what mirralas would be happy with) and Kevin seems to be a better than walcott even though he played in a far inferior league. I know who I would pick...

Why buy Walcott? wouldn't he just get in the way?

24 Jul 2012 10:29:51
Hi eds. Has the interest in Walcott completely died down now? I think he would definitely fit into the category of a player who can play in all three forward positions alongside borini and suarez. I'd also love to see us sign Allen and Dempsey and feel that these additions will certainly allow us to push for the much needed champions league places. Mikey {Ed019's Note - Nothing new on Walcott}

24 Jul 2012 10:18:42
Hi eds,

I have been reading the posts and I come to the conclusion that liverpool are looking to add only 2 players in addition to Borini, which are allen and dempsy. (excluding the random rumors of neymar, lucas and what not)

Is there anyone else or any other positions that the club are looking to strength?

Thanks
Gerald {Ed019's Note - Wingers, also players will be sold}

Think of it this way if Allen was to come in that would mean either Adam or aqualani are definitely on the way out and possibly shelvey or spearing on loan.

If Dempsey was to sign I would expect Bellamy to be on his way out as I'm sure he would want first team football and we can't assure him that (so on mutual feelings he goes to Cardiff to try get them promoted and we would be happy because he had a great season for us and dempsey is now a better player than he is).

So if anyone was to be sold after that the money made would be for replacements (if Carroll left we'd get a striker, if downing left we'd get a winger). Downing and Carroll are the only ones I could see leaving once all the above have happened, but it's unlikely.

From the sighnings we are linked too and the sighnings we have made I feel were a mid table club. However, I sit back and think that were Liverpool Football Club and all this doubt does out of my mind. But Honestly im scared...Borini, Allen, Dempsey...when others have got a lot of world class players...Hope im wrong.YNWA

Hello everyone, I for one am looking forward to see my team playing some good attractive football under Rogers. Looking at last season we can safely say that two areas are of major and urgent concern.
1. Lack of goals
2. No cover when Lucas was injured.
We played some good football under Kenny but results always were against us.
I think Borini might prove himself a great signing and if our big lad Carroll goes then another out and out striker with Dempesy and Suarez behind them. A pacey right winger and a good cover for lucas are also very important.
In my opinion we need a left back also and of course replacement for whoever leaves.
Joe Allen looks like just what we need in midfield.
Our squad isn't even complete yet. We have too few strikers and only one proper DM and yes no proper right winger.
Leta hope for the best. Top 6 is a realistic and good target if we get there playing Rogers style football and banging goals on the way with one silverware like FA cup or europa league i for one will be quite happy. Them we can have the 'Marquee' signings everybody is craving for.
Lets get behind our new manager and please give him time as we know from last season tht spending big money doesn't always bring success. Having a good squad and a better Manager who knows about modern footballing tactics om the other hand can be a lot better.

Don't abuse me if you don't agree. It's just a thought. Everybody doesn't have to agree with everybody.

All this Caroll nonsens and his price. Can Ed's confirm that the 35 mill £, was just because Liverpool was about too pay tax for a big amount of the Torres money. Lets say they had too pay 20 mill too tax from income that year, John Henry was smart and, used all income on new players. Hence his answer about the Caroll price was depanded on the Torres money. So if we sold him for 15 mill, we would actually only had lost the money payed on the players salaries.
Anyone confirm or am I out in the blue?

i dont care what you so called fans say. the sooner the owners sell the club the better. iam not bothered about if the money is there or not for big players. that is not the problem. the way they keep coming out and talking about how great br is and about the players. when they dont have a clue. the season has not started yet and they are already talking s***. the latest talking about carroll is the wrong way to go about it. br has got a big job to do without all this s*** going on. the best thing they can do is shut the f**k up and let br get on with his job and let him sort out what he wants. they are trouble makers and its not good on the club. hasnt this club been through enough s***. its a new start. so let the manger do his job and stop bringing headlines for no reason.

Get a grip you chump, lfc for life, are new owner's are 10 time's better than what we had,or would you like the OLD owner's back hahahha i bet you would

Would not like the old owners back however would like better owners then we have now

Would have preferred if Kenny had stayed on

Why rise to the bait of an obvious clown on his break from being a social worker or something?

Hi All,

What's people's opinions on the players that would play in a 4-3-3 for the 3 midfield positions (i Know it's tika-taka and fluid formations etc...) but its going to be interesting if we do get Joe Allen as we would assume if all fit the three would be Allen, Lucas and Gerrard.

Not sure where Henderson fits in here, it's well documented that Aqualini wants out, not sure Adam would be happy hardly playing any minutes (given his performances last year I'm not too sure I'd be happy him playing any minutes ;o) ).

So what are your thoughts - theres obviously Shelvey, Spearing, possibly Cole (as the more advanced player), Suso etc...

Hoola

I'd agree that if available a three of Gerrard, Lucas, and Allen seem the most likely. I'd speculate that's it's more of a one CDM, two CAM sort of structure, but as you say the idea is fluidity, so at any given point they really could individually be anywhere from playing almost as right back to being a striker.

Given that, I'd say the positions are somewhat less relevant except that the 3 on the pitch need to complement each other (e.g. having a three of Gerrard, Shelvey, and Cole is probably not a good idea nor would Spearing, Coady, and Lucas be a good idea either).

It'll be interesting to see how it works out and who BR puts where.

RDL

I think if Allen joined we'd send Shelvey on loan for the season (probably to Swansea), sell Adam and keep Spearing, Henderson and Aquilani as back-ups, unless we got a big enough offer for Aquilani

Red Ollie

We should keep aqua for his set plays alone seems like we have no good set play takers apart from Gerrard and he is injured 60% of the time

Agreed Lucas , Gerrard & Allen (BR's pet :o) would be the first choice 3 .

I would then be happy with Henderson , Shelvey & Cole/Aquilani to cover those positions with the reserves , such as Suso & Adorjian playing as and when required .

if andy carroll does go will there be any other strikers signed? and what about kaka?

Gonzalo Higuain £30m why not?

Borini 10m
Allen 10m
Gonzalo 30m
Dempsey 7m
= 57m

sell
Carroll 17m
Downing 11m
Bellamy & kuyt 2m
Adam 5m
= 35m

57m - 35m = £22m spent (within our £30m budget)

(start of the season)

reina
johnson, skrtel, agger, enrique
spearing
gerrard, aquilani
Borini, Higuain, Dempsey

jones, kelly, carrager, henderson, shelvey, cole, pacheco

What about kaka? Is it his birthday

Pity thats not the way it works

Pity thats not the way it works

I don't necessarily disagree with you, 2nd post in, but you don't have Suarez in your team and you didn't sell him. I'm assuming you forgot Suarez out = +£28M in, which means (theoretically) you could pay ~£35M for Higuain. Wages would be an issue though.

Either way, I don't think it's entirely unrealistic if Suarez and Carroll both go.

Liverpool are being transformed and it will take at least 5 years to become a consistent - consistent being the keyword as we may have a few good seasons or spells spread through that period - dominant force.

All transfer speculation aside, the facts are we have Borini now and Lucas is back and both of these are clearly good events.

FSG has shown intent to nuture the club and so while many players age or could leave there's no need to lose sleep and although FSG come from the land of H&G, stereotypes can only serve to undermine and take away from the positives.

If the season begins without us getting any more players in - even if we sell or loan valued players or have injuries to players - football is unpredictable, requires a bit of luck and each team is a fine tuned machine and that includes teams with $100M bench. Money and ability have a long history of failure mixed in their success stories.

Time will tell if Liverpool will perform to their ability this campaign.

Hopefully we this season goes by without a red beach ball deflecting shots towards our goal.

Nothing to do with Liverpool bur whats up with Malaga howcome they are in a financial crisis? I thought they got takenover by a oil rich arab?

Tom. {Ed001's Note - they did, but he only bought them to get goodwill from the council in order to complete a building project, I think it was a marina if I remember correctly. Now he has no need to fund the club any further and so suddenly they have no money.}

And case number one as to why having a wealthy sheikh for an owner is not necessarily better than FSG.

who can replace Caroll if we sold it?
who is most likely striker to replace him?

Clint Dempsey.

Don't shoot me for this, but If we do need an "out n out" striker after the possible sale of Carroll, promote Morgan and play him fairly often this season, and dare I say it bring back Michael Owen on a pay as you play deal, like the Salford red sox did, and used him as a squad member. we have the league AND 3 cup comps to play for, not taking into account any injuries or suspensions. I think a bit of thought and patience is needed with this Carroll decition, I think Carroll could come good, but if BR can't see it happening then Carroll has little or no hope for success at Liverpool. Although I'm not a fan of Bent (the rumour has come back again), IF we could get him for less than £10m, that might be a good move, but I can guess Villa would want near £20m.

Heskey 4 me, just as poor a first touch as andy, and 4 goals a season is roughly the same aswell.

24 Jul 2012 14:09:21
EDs while it may only be a rumour what sense does it make letting Shelvey go on a season long loan. Surely adam would make more sense to both clubs Shelvey is a mobile box to box player while adam is a "playmaker" though he hid it well for the majority of last season.

Great site {Ed001's Note - I fail to see how Adam makes more sense than sending a young fringe player out on loan to somewhere he should get much more regular first team action?}

Eds any chance of Gerard Deulofeu? do we have interest in him, if so how much?

cheers

yoyoman {Ed001's Note - no idea, does it really matter how much he would cost anyway?}

Id say it does matter how much the price. i realise ed u think that if the player fits the club and is what wer need then forget price, if price wasnt an issue wed be going for cavani because we need a gs, neymar because we need creativity. or even realisticly ramirez and huntelaar but no we dont go for them clearly because of price, but to me borini 12m why not 6m just 6m for huntellar 18m clause. strange to me and were talking 15m for allen? ridiculous

Ed i meant how strong would the intrest be, i think u misunderstood me,

cheers

In my opinion suso has a brighter future than sterling who are the best of the bunch at the moment. Reason being he plays in a better national side full of talent like his whereas sterling doesn't.

Suso as he is better all round whereas the other two use pace and skills.

Hounsred

Suso is going to be something "special" and I mean extraordinary.

Tom.

Suso.

Suso mate the guy is top draw he has got everything i would play him every week .

Have to say, from what i've seen of him so far, that Sinclair looks a very good prospect, also can anyone tell me how Dan Cleary is progressing.

I'd say suso out of the bunch, he has alono's passing and silva's silky feet. I think sterling, ibe and sinclair (a 15 year old academy player) are thought of i the same category.

What is cole thinking of talking to the s*n it's on sky sports app. Hope it was just one of many at a press confrince or something like that and not just soaly being interviewed by them or that doesn't sit very well with me sorry joe

Redman j4t96 ynwa

Seen it in the Mirror mate, calm down.
Jonson

It happens quite a lot that one of our players is quoted as saying x, y and z to The S*n. In actual fact they usually talked to several sources at a press conference and that question happened to be from The S*n's correspondant. Occassionally, they'll say something to a freelance journo who'll then sell it to The S*n.

But I can't think of any recent occassion when one of our players has knowingly given any sort of exclusive quotes to that rag. I'd imagine the club tells them not to. And given the ruckus over the time Rooney did, we'd probably know if any of them ever did quite quickly.

I know this is going to sound extremely negative but Utd are being linked with Lucas Moura having already signed Kagawa,Chelsea with Oscar having already signed Hazard,Arsenal with Cazorla. We're being linked with Allen who I don't rate at all. I think we all have to wake up and realize we're just not that great anymore ever since the great Xabi Alonso left and by signing average players, again because of passing statistics, crossing stats, etc (like with Downing) we're just falling further and further behind. And Ed001,no disrespect but in reply to an earlier reply you gave to another poster,Suarez is a world-class player. I agree he's not a striker. Maybe more a wing-forward or an attacking mid. But he is a world-class entertainer and footballer.
Capetownred {Ed001's Note - no he is not. No disrespect but a world class player is Messi or Ronaldo, Suarez is not as good as either or even close to it. World class is far too easily thrown about these days!}

Well let them buy who they like i think the players we have even before adam downing bla bla should start to play decent attractive football and start stepping up to the mark when there needed we can buy players when the club and team is more appealing and stops this long ball CRAP

So the only world class players is messi and ronaldo? Suarez is rated in the top 10, there is more then 2 world class players. By the way suarez proves he is world class for coub and country, where as messi and ronaldo have not proved it for there country. Sorry ed but i dont take your 100% word and i think it was abit silly of you to say suarez is not world class. Did he not show his class in the masters aswell playing against messi? RedTurk

Sorry Ed, but Suarez is world class

By the gods, it's a sign of the impending apocalyse! I agree with RedTurk! Man the lifeboats!
Milamber

By the gods, it's a sign of the impending apocalyse! I agree with RedTurk! Man the lifeboats!

Suarez would walk into any team in the world, and it is rare for a player to have the skills and football brain that he has, thus making him world class.

Suaraz would almost certainly make into a World squad of players? Which makes him World Class.

If Suaraz was word class then he would not be at Liverpool as word class players play for the best clubs something Liverpool are a longway from being, so im with the Ed on this one. Mike

Hi Eds,

With all this talk about signing Joe Allen, is anyone of the opinion that we may not need him?

I watched the friendly on Saturday and I have seen highlights of the EURO U19s as well and Suso looks like he has real potential.

The lad seems to be able to spray 40 yards balls with relative ease... not seen ability like he has for a long time in a liverpool youngster. I really hope we keep hold of him and give him game time as he looks potentially world class.

Any of the Eds shed any light on Suso?

Red Bri {Ed001's Note - what do you mean about shedding any light?}

24 Jul 2012 12:14:12
Hi Edds, just heard a rumour that Andy Carroll and Craig Bellamy will have to be sold for players such as Allen and Deulofeo to come in. What is Deulofeo like I havent seen much of him apart from a few clips of him playing for Barcelona B {Ed001's Note - he is a bit like Walcott with a bit more skill but less idea of when to pass really. Incredibly frustrating player.}

He is the type that could terrorise lesder teams but go missing against good teams.

no probs with him going for that price..

I agree as I think Coates will do great for us. Agger is the one I want to see us keep at all costs.

Bollox, if he goes it should be for no less than the blue nose reject that went to man c$ty, (lescott) £20m at least im sick of all the other teams taking the p1ss all the time with us.

No chance. 20m or he's goin nowhere

Wouldnt need to buy a replacement either...so would that go straight into the transfer kitty? were looking at 10m players at the min...23m would be an "exciting signing" in my opinion

And how much would you have to pay for a like-for-like replacement? A lot more than £13m! Lets think before we type ...

LFC_SA

He is worth more

£13 million ? Double it and we might think about it.

Lescott went for 20 odd million, if we have a player other teams want,we should price him higher than 13 million that's for sure.

Hell no...
lescott went to city for 22m

p,jones went to united for anywhere between 17m to 20m

I'd be DAMNED if we don't get 18m - 20m if he were to go.

What's the problem with being careful with the books? When have LFC ever bought success so if you think the great Paisley and Shanks would be turning in there graves not as much as they would be if we did a citeh and bought success. They built this club with a framemind of patience, hard work, sustainability and fans. So play your part and be a fan through everything.

Mike S

This is the sort of immature fan that's bringing our club down, surely you must realise after finishing 8th we were never going to go out and buy several big name players? Instead BR is looking at making a couple of smart signings and getting rid of who he doesn't see in his long term plan. If you ever thought we were gonna go out and buy several star names your living on another planet! Also stop trashing the owners, if it wasn't for them, there wouldn't be a LFC anymore!
MikeLfc

I cant wait for all the kids to go back to school

Nuff said you shouldn't have bothered.

Tommy

I'd take heed of your comments more if you didn't write like a 10 year old. The reason we are staying positive is negativity isn't going to benefit anybody at the club - we're building from the ground up, and 'supporters' such as yourselves sat there moaning are only going to exacerbate the situation. If you want to moan then fine, moan in the mirror, but don't plague us with your monotonous moaning when we want to look to the future with belief.

Shanks and Paisley would have really been turning in their graves if LFC went the same way that Rangers did! Which is where we were headed only two years back! FSG prevented that by coughing up a cool £200m! They're now trying to get us back on good footing to move forward. Make sense?

They deserve some time and patience.

LFC_SA

Comments like this make me feel embarrassed to be a Liverpool fan sometimes. This isn't the 80's. History doesn't give you the right to finish first every year, you have to work for that. I don't see what the owners have done wrong. They backed Kenny last year with money and i don't see how it's their fault it was used unwisely. As for BR i don't see how you can have a pop at him after one pre-season game in which youngsters dominated long spells against a team in the midst of the season who's fitness levels should be well above ours. Just one more thing, not one single person has said they are happy with how last season went but "through and through" supporters will support no matter what. Just look at Pompey fans.

Nuf said if you could be relugated for poor financial state we would have been already...now as we all know money/finances are the most important thing in football today..does it not make sense to get them in order first to free up money to be spent down the road like if we went out and bought big name players thats pressure on the wage bill and digging a hole.it has to end NOW the high wages and big transfers..word of advice leave it to the pros

Why do we 'deserve' better? Do Sunderland, QPR, Stoke, etc. 'deserve' better? We deserve what we can earn, both financially and on the pitch, no more, no less.

24 Jul 2012 11:09:52
Most likely Carroll will stay. Nobody will pay his wages and he isn't willing to take a wage cut. He may go on loan and LFC will subsidise his wages but LFC want to sell him. {Ed001's Note - his wages are within the budget of every Premier League club.}

80k would Reading pay that? or swansea?

24 Jul 2012 11:04:09
...Actually, it's only terms.
Think we need to jump in now, offer €20million and get a real star to the club.

A front 3 of Suarez - Borini - Carzola would be incredible.

-Shane.

How is Cazorla a 'real star'? Yes he's an alright player, But the fact that he's never played in the premier league means that he's somewhat of a risk. He's not done anywhere near enough in spain to be called a real star anyway.

Amen 2 tht kidaa

Would love to see it happen but don't think it would fit in with Rodgers' plan as I believe he envisages Borini on the right of a front 3

BR

Obviously i cant second guess, but he does like players who show for the ball but who can also pass and keep it simple with good technical attributes.

I dont see Spearing, and Adam fitting into that, but he will like Aqualini as his range of passing is very good, it just depends if AQUAMAN can be committed. I think Joe Cole the jury is still out? Wasnt impressed with him during the Toronto game.

I think if any player comes and out says thoe they dont wanna play for LFC im sure he ll move them on asap. ! But he does seem to prefer people with pace as well so i think COLE and possible Bellamy may be moved on. I think the SKRTEL thing he ll give him the choice to sign or flog him on.

If we are after Joe Allen lets hope its to SHELVEY on LOAN the other way or put Spearing in the mix !

One thing bellers has is pace

Aquilani's workrate will ensure that Rodgers gives him the boot.

Do the Eds think that we are going to sign an out and out winger and if so how will they fit into a 4-3-3 with the current squad ie assuming Gerrard, Lucas and likely Allen are the midfield trio.

Great site; tks. {Ed001's Note - out and out winger? No, but then they are very few and far between these days.}

Rodgers does not play with wingers , he plays with three forwards as do most successful teams these days .

Please don't tell me Dyer and Sinclair are wingers , we had all that yesterday .

Holy s**t, Arsenal have agreed Santi Cazorla deal. Same price as Downing.

Get a move on lads if we've any money left to be spent.

No they haven't

Don't worry we will soon have Allen & Dempsey.

Don't worry, we will soon have Allen & Dempsey.

Hey Eds, Love the site and your continued efforts to keeps the fans happy :-)

Can you give me on the scale 1-10 the chances of Liverpool signing Kevin Mirallas ?

Thanking you again. {Ed049's Note - We don't do ratings Sorry}

Suarez, Skirtel and Carroll will stay. Aquilani and Spearing will go. Downing may go too.

Dempsey and Allen will sign which should complete our business for the summer. (Depending on fees being agreed on)

Obviously, transfers are subject to change up until the very last minute depending on varying factors with the possibility of even Sinclair moving our way before the window closes.

Our midfield should mainly consist of Lucas, Gerrard and Allen with the rest of our mids covering for Europe and injuries.

Our forwards look to be Suarez, Carroll, Borini and Dempsey (the 3 most in form to be selected which will bring us into line with the other top premier league teams who run with 4 strikers to select from)with backup coming in the form of exciting young players such as Stirling, Pacheco etc.

We already have plenty of cover in defence.

Not a bad squad moving forward into 2012-2013 with BR at the helm for his first season. There are plenty of games to play with Europe and Cups included.

I am hoping to see some young players breaking through and some exciting football played at our great club.

Levans

Don't be silly mate, you think Kuyt, aurelio, maxi, aquilani, spearing AND downing will go and we will buy Dempsey, allen and Borini, 6 out, 3 in?

you must be joking, especially with a team in the europa league so there is now more games to play, anyone thats leave surely HAS to be replaced or the players we have got will be completely done in with the amount of games we play,

Brendan Rodgers isn't going to play the kids in the europa league every week thats for sure so theres no way were going to see 6 go out and replaced with 3 players, make sense if your going to make a post

I don't dislike Downing but at his age? Just my opinion but I think Rodgers will sell him as soon as.
If we don't sell now for around £10m. It would be a mistake as next season he would worth even less and more difficult to shift.
If you were bringing a sub on in the 70th minute who would you prefer? Downing? Suso? Sterling? .....Thought so...
That's agreed then sell Downing only thing is, what clubs are interested?

Am i the only one that hates Warriors motto ''we come not to play'' Surely this would fit Stoke better than us!

MR EM {Ed049's Note - haha true}

Me too, i'm also confused as to whether the motto implies "we come not to play, but to be dead serious in kicking your ass", or "we come not to play, but to prance around looking pretty in these kool clothes on the pitch"

Leaves us open to all kinds of ridicule.

Do you not think in your head after
... But to win
?

It means We come not to play, we come to win.

Good one mate, just made my day!

Lil Red

Football is not a game its more than life and death

The Stoke motto is 'We come to lump it long and pray to God we get a throw in'

Kev.

I`m taking it as meaning we`re not here to f**k about, we`re here to kick some a**e

Derrr "we come not to play, we come to win"

Funniest thing is i live near Stoke and there fans think Barca and Tika Taka is boring and s**t, my response was to point out Barca's success and that Tika Taka takes skill lumping it into the box and hoping it hits a 6 foot odd player doesn't and is hardly football more like. Also the fact that their version of football has won them nothing in the Premier League.

Heavens, how UScentric!.
Macho man nonsense!.
Boring and very dated.

iker muniain, pato, gaston ramirez are all possible. but will br go for any of them? personally i feel that 2 of those three will improve the team alot more than allen, dyer, sinclair and dempsey together. any thoughts?

What I am confused about it why you would prefer Pato, who has been injured and on poor form in another league to Dempsey, who has plenty of experience in the EPL and had an awesome season last year? I know Pato is younger, but we criticised when Dalglish bought players for the future. Sure Dempsey probably only has a maximum of about 5 seasons left in him, and Pato about 10 to 12, but we do need to think about now as opposed to in a few seasons. BR should be looking to spend low on relatively short term fixes, to get us to a point where we have a shot at signing players like Aguero, Cavani etc. We have many players for the future, we need some who can hit the ground running. Spending £8m on Dempsey, who could bring us regular goals for 2 - 3 seasons would be a bargain, buying Pato for £20m+ who would need time to regain fitness, adapt, and possibly flop, would be a massive risk for LFC. Give LFC a chance to grow under BR, become more consistent, and perform better in the EPL, and get top 4, and then we can look at players in their early 20s who can set the league alight, better players than Pato

Pato is one of the most over-rated (and injury prone) players in world football, he's rubbish!

Pato has hardly played in the last 3 seasons. do you really want another sick note ?
derryred

Iker muniain- cost in excess of 25m
pato- cost in excess of 35m
gaston ramirez- between 15-25m depending on who wrote the report.

You may think they will improve us more, but they are completely unproven in the EPL, and cost about 3 times as much as the players we are going for. That's a big risk. I'm happy with who we've got, atleast they are somewhat reliable.

Football is cyclical as is life. Liverpool and Man United have had a virtual role reversal over the last 25+ years. Back in 86 Liverpool had an unprecedented period of success. Man United had been in the doldrums for 2 decades. They'd put in the odd amazing performance, but had no consistency. They won the odd cup but never challenged for the league. So they replaced Big Ron with a briefly successful young british manager with vision and a determination to prove himself. Meanwhile over at Liverpool, many of it's star players were starting to wind down their careers and the period of invincibility had 4 or 5 yrs left.
I see the clubs in a similar position now. Man Utd will struggle to replace Giggs and Scholes. They'll live off the reputation of their manager for a few more years before the bubble bursts.
We as a club and as fans need to invest in Rodger's vision with patience. Fergie finished mid table for a few years before getting it right. YNWA

As always nothing lasts forever? these things run in cycles. Been saying for a while the time is ripe for a new kid on the block(manager) to make his mark and do it without the backing of a billionaire.
A sort of visionary in the mould of Shankly or Clough. Just hope and pray that Manager is Brendan Rodgers.
kidmillions

Big difference these days is football finance. United can afford to make big investments in overseas talent.

Back then (early 90's), when we were in trouble we turned to big money signings from the UK like Paul Stewart, Dean Saunders, Mark Walters and Jimmy Carter! Busting the bank to sign someone like Marco van Basten, Jean Pierre Papin, Romario or Roberto Baggio back then was not an option (as it is now) They all went to Italy if they went anywhere, while our game was 'still an island'

I see where your going, but the era's cant be comparred (unfortunately!).

Let's face it, Rodgers has been given £10 million to spend. Any other transfers will only happen if he sells Carroll. Stoke spent more net than us last season and will probably spend more this season. I'm not saying we should be spending like City or Chelsea but FSG need to realise that it costs to bring in the right quality in order to ensur the right balance of experienced quality and talented youth.

Carroll is a fall guy purely because he is the only disposable asset capable of generating the £20 mill needed to fund the Allen and Dempsey purchases.

Ozone

Stoke arent trying to build a new stadium.

If we were skint the first move we'd make would be to sell Johnson as we have good cover at right back - a less influential position but we clearly are not skint

How about Downing?

Hold on now who do you suggest we buy:
our defence is all but sorted.
our midfield is already sorted in my view but allen couldn't hurt.
now our attack which will likely be a 3 man attack. if carroll and suarez stay and dempsey arrives then i think we are sorted as we will have suarez, carroll, borini, dempsey, downing, bellery(hopefully) and then sterling and pacheco eetc to support them. maybe even morgan can get the odd call-up. i would rather rodgers has a season in charge before we make expensive signings. then he will have time to identify the areas of improvement and then identify targets that have the right skills and quality's to fix that problem and then add to the team.

I may be incorrect but I think its the wages...Kenny has left us with a good squad ..No doubt about that...Its just that the Hodgson buys have left us with some very bad contracts....

Benitez can only be guilty of Aquilani but I think Hodgson shouldnt have loaned out Aquilani...

The wages are the problem...They are trying to get it down but cant do it with so many players on high salaries...

Another point flying around here is that we have bad players...Downing, Henderson, Adams and Carroll are all international players in their own respect....Its just unfortunate that BR plays a totally different brand of football which means that players like Carroll and Adams will find it difficult to gel into the style..

I am a big fan all above Downing above but he is not a bad squad player but I admit that at 20 mil, he is way expensive....

According Ben Smith BBC who has been known as a reliable source we are waiting on Carroll deal to go forward with the other deals. Shame! FSG WTF!

And this Joe Cole guy talking of writing a whole new chapter at Anfield, well I have my respect for him becaz of his respect to LFC. But IMO this is all nothing but his 90-K wage pack. Easy Money, Everyone love Money.

Its better BR should get rid of him, would save hell lot money in this time of lack of cash for the club to spend on new players.

So Joe Cole out!

Bosco

Sorry but just when has Ben "Bulls***" Smith ever been viewed as a reliable source?
AD

Why are people agreeing with this clown? He's an embarrassment to the great fanbase of LFC

Ben Smith has never got anything right about LFC, it's pure guesswork on his part.

John B

Get back in your box bosco

Agreed.

It seems all he needs to do is set up a Sky interview (or any other interview he can get) - slobber about how great LFC are - and to make claims of what can be achieved at LFC that are way beyond his capabilities to influence -

And then everyones convinced. Easy.

Not good enough, never was, never will be. He's not even capable of playing 90 mins - and as Mourinho said - he is tactically inept.

Never wanted us to sign him. Wasn't it Martin Broughton who did? on the back of typical England-at-a-tourney hype. It is disgusting that such a limited player is getting so much money.

I'm sure Rodgers knows this anyway - but who in the right mind would take him?

(Stevie G's comments that he was 'England's Messi' didn't help either. Good player our Stevie - but he'd better not be a scout - nevermind a manager - at LFC in the future!)

ps - Cole playing a pressing game. lol.

I don't really care how old or young a player is, nor do I care how much they cost or where they come from. All I would ask for is players that have talent, play for the team and not themselves, work hard, and are enthusiastic about doing so.

In theory, we could go spend many multiple millions on world class players, but since the club is making roughly -£50M a year at the moment either the owners would have to come out of pocket for all of it, we'd have to sell to buy, or they could heap debt on the club to finance it. None of those are particularly attractive options to me.

That said, I can't say that it wouldn't be somewhat enjoyable to have someone buying my FIFA dream team every year, so I don't blame the Man City or Chelsea fans for their relative good fortune but instead will simply wish them luck and hope that come game day we can show them the error of their big spending ways.

My hope is that perhaps we're approaching this a bit more like BVB, a team that impresses me a great deal. Bought Kagawa for 300k Euros, Lewandowski for 4M, Kuba for 2M. Gotze is obviously homegrown. My perception is perhaps this is the sort of model FSG are looking towards since quite simply many of you are correct- we're not going to make the signings of Man. City, Chelsea, or PSG, especially while the club continues to lose money.

Careful scouting and player selection will be key in combination with bringing up some of the talented array of youngsters we have and I for one am willing to wait until at least the transfer window is closed and we see a few games before I criticize the manager as he's done nothing thus far to deserve it.

There's absolutely no reason why, if we do it correctly, we couldn't be hoisting the PL trophy as at the end of the day it is the team that wins matches- not a single player no matter how talented they may be.

RDL

I agree with you. i don't see how BR can make a sensable 30 million pound signing as he would've hardly looked at players of that ilk whilst at swansea. before you spend that kind of money you should have been looking at that player for the guts of a season almost. so don't criticise anyone for liverpool not spending big his window because i have a feeling that a big signing will come eiither in january or in the summer window next season.
derryred

Thing is, those players you mentioned are being sold, is that what you want then? selling club

Nice post. Well said.

Imo, when a team like City wins the league after spending £1bn - it kinda makes it less of an achievement (in my eyes anyway).

Nevermind the unsustainable 'you're screwed when your owners leave' nature of their club's model...

Which, like at Chelsea, will be a major problem in the future -

Just focusing on their league win - it's hardly amazing - is it? They'd need to win it spending that much tbh.

Nothing would give me more pleasure than building a side to beat the likes of these teams through shrewd scouting - an excellent youth-system and superior coaching.

And sound financial handling that will not jeopardise our future is essential. We'll be competing once the sugar-daddies have gone - as will Arsenal.

Sensible work all round. I don't want LFC driven into the ground. That's why decisions like £35m for Carroll bother me. It's not MY money, but too many decisions like that, and it could cripple MY club - and I don't wanna see that happen - we have finite resources, we must use them wisely.

To all those who demand the moon and the stars - and want to splash out on big money players -

Look at Portsmouth, look at Leeds -

Be careful what you wish for - you just might get it.

Although you are a complete negative gimp, Cazorla would be a quality addition to any squad. You are obviously clueless in general, but well done that little nugget of reality within your ocean of dihorrea. Dempsey and Allen would both be very good signings, and i'm relatively confident that Borini will be a fan favourite. Rodgers is going to be a legend at Anfield
Milamber

Rodgers and FSG will make LFC a mid table club. We will never be able to compete with lack of transfer funds, and them selling our best players and lowering the wage bill.Everyone else from west brom to newcastle are getting better we are going to get worse. We lack fast wingers a true goalscorer who will score 20-25 a year.We lack a creative midfielder left back cover most the players at liverpool are average. And Rodgers and fsg want to sell the better ones.

I'm surprised people as dim as you can even figure out how to write a post. Try not to drown in your soup, if you sign off next time I'll know who to send some arm bands to.

Eric the red

You mean we should sign the kind of player who wants to play in the Champions League this season?

Slight flaw with your plan there. I'm sure if you think about it you'll figure out what it is.

- Something Red -

Lets write players off before they sign and then criticism them in preseason. That will make them want to play for liverpool football club!

Negativity = reality.
Too many rose-tinted specs merchants on here.

"i haven't been impressed by anyone linked sice rodgers took over"... Brendan Rodgers is not at Anfield to impress you with people that the papers and journos have linked our club to!! He's there to make us better, make us play a style of football that will make us great again, he's not there to buy these so called "superstars" that are so over-rated like Eden Hazard (who will be a failure in England), he's gonna bring people in that play a system of football that he wants Liverpool FC to play, he doesn't want players that play for themselves, he wants players that move the ball quickly with good passing, not persons like Nani who only play for themselves constantly making the wrong decisions and running into players giving the ball away, Rodgers doesn't want that, plus look at the way we've wasted money on Carroll and Downing, Rodgers wont pay over the odds for any player.

Hi quick question would we ever sign djibril cisse he's in great form and a fantastic player wud be a good partner ship wid him n Suarez up front? Cheers

Um...we did once. he was crap. A good lad, but crap

Nice try Djibril mate

Red Ollie

Why are people on here so obsessed with players coming back to the club? Cisse, Ryan Babel, Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres, Michael Owen at one point, Javier Mascherano and there's been one or two others in the past.
Can't we just move on and try and get new players, the future stars, bring through a future star.
Look to the future instead of looking at the past all the time.

SteEllis

Would you have said the same if Heskey had a good end to the season? Afterall, he's unplayable on his day..LOL

Red PG

Dont think we'll be looking at a striker who gets as many red cars as he does goals tbh...

Rodgers wont play a 4-4-2 formation so it'll be Suarez, Borini and Bellamy, Downing, Suso or someone else coming in, but it certainly wont be Cisse, the chap cant pass a ball 5 yards! If i was Rodgers i'd go all out and get Daniel Sturridge, he would fit the system perfectly IMO

Rocky {Ed001's Note - a guy that can't and won't pass will fit a passing formation? That makes no sense!}

Some regular poster here was saying recently that strikers can't be coached. Which is obviously stupid - but hearing of Cisse reminds me of a startling piece of info which shows just how bad coaching can be.

I recall a story of Rafa arriving at LFC and noting that Cisse - a professional footballer - was totally unaware of the concept of a striker bending his runs to beat the offside trap.

Shocking.

BJH YNWA (I think it was Rafa, correct me if I'm wrong.)

ps - He's nowhere near good enough for us - and he's not a good lad. He's a nasty piece of work.

Why do you say that BJH? Stevie G etc speak very highly of him as a person

I recall tales of him being arrested for assaulting women - and even children, I'm sure there would be stuff on the web about these stories.

Don't take my word as gospel on these stories - I've always been inclined to believe them though - he always struck me as an angry, sneering and arrogant individual with a brain the size of a pea.

I wouldn't expect Gerrard to say anything controversial either - and likewise, I wouldn't hold up Stevie as a higher moral authority either.

BJH YNWA (you did ask - & watching his sendings-off every other game this year just reminded me of how much I disliked the guy)

Cisse loves lfc and liverpool , he broke his leg twice and had a bad time , but in the right team he can score goals

i really think most fans do not realise how far back we have fallen & they still beleive we will be winning the league or getting 4th soon, how wrong they are. it will be a long road back we need patience i think BR is the man to do it, but he will need time. i for one like how he talks reminds me so much of shanks "i want us to pass the opposition into submission" classic!

scott derby

While I totally agree that patience will be key, until the home loss to Arsenal, we were right in there. We fell away badly after that however my point is we havent fallen as far as many suggest. I believe that we will be fighting for if not getting to fourth. One Swallow does not make a summer nor one cloud a winter.

Andy K

BR looks like a man who can do it, but the damn FSG needs to support him and show the colour of their money to us.

Bosco

Why did they not give Kenny time?

Eloquent and true,nice!! B

Yeah, in about ten years !

Bosco, covering the landscape with dreariness and drizzle as ever...how clueless are you? FSG have pumped a lot of money into the club already, and will make funds available as and when. They aren't oil rich sheiks to throw 32million at players ala hazard.

We fell away last year once Lucas was injured. Wee Jay just isn't good enough. This season will be much better
Milamber

They showed the clour and print of the money very clear last summer..with 100 mil...yes 100 mill...KK screwed 80% of it...was that FSG fault??..they are not like chelsea and city...money is difficult to get..roman's blind passion for love and sheikh's passion for fame..is not the case with FSG......

I tend to agree, however I think it should be noted that Chelsea are considered one of the 'big' teams, and their league form wasn't exactly excellent last season, despite their success in the cups, and all their money. Arsenal have consistently finished top 4 without winning anything, however it is Liverpool who get the flack. The season we won the CL we finished a lot lower in the league than we would have liked, however bounced back to finish 2nd a few seasons later. Last season was a disaster for LFC, a lot of money spent on ineffective signings, Luis gets banned, and we are dealt an extra hard blow of bad luck, this season is a new start for us. Manchester City, even with their vast fortune took 3 seasons to challenge for the title. Whilst it will take longer for LFC to be challenging again, the first step will be to gain a better league position. Being realistic, I think we will be lucky to get top 4 this season. However if we can have a good run in the EL and at least make a challenge for top 4, avoid controversy, make moves on the new stadium and secure sponsorship, to improve revenue, we will be in a much better position to sign players than can guarantee us top 4 finish.

A lot can happen over a few seasons. City are already struggling to sell their grossly overpaid players in order to sign new ones - which is ironic, because it was the gross over payment that lured their players in the first place.

Fergie, love him or hate him, has the incredible ability to take a bunch of reasonably good players, and instill the belief that they are world class, and can win anything - but he wont be around forever, and it would take a hell of a manager to do the same with the same squad.

Patience is the key my friend :-) in the meantime, just enjoy watching us develop under Rodgers.

Bosco, 'damn FSG' what the hell man they saved our club from going under!!!

Did Kenny require time, he went out bought HIS targets, and flopped, next you will be saying why wasn't Roy given more time, get a grip and move on!

When we are losing 50 million every year then i doubt its wise to pump another 50 million in on transfers. i think we are a lot closer than people think. after the arsenal game we hadn't a hope of getting fourth so kenny played the youth players to build for next few seasons. trust me we will be thanking him for doing it. he gave shelvey, hendo, coates, kelly, sterling, flanno etc valuable experience when we had nothing really to play for and that has given them and us a platform for the future.
derryred

Pumped money in, not in to transfers.

Given the players sold and bought the amount pumped in was just over 10m per transfer windows.

This excluded taxes, fees, wages etc. That is just transfer fees

Good evening Reds/Eds,
I would your opinions about Fabio Borini and whether or not he will be a squad player or a first XI starter?
I think that £11m for a 21 year old full Italy international with PL experience is a bargain.
Scouse_Pride

He is a first XI starter definitely...

But he is not a Center Forward...Looks more of an Inside forward to me i.e. a second striker or a winger cutting in...

From price perspective, only time can tell if he is a bargain.....

LiverBird

I think he will appear in most matches mate - either as a starter or a sub. I hope we get everyone playing the same way and can rotate without too much disruption. With EL this season, we are going to have to use the full squad better.

LIVERPRES

We paid £8 million for him.

Can he play right wing because we have needed a right winger for years now.

Thank's
Scouse_Pride

'We paid £8 million for him.'

Why have 5 people disagreed with this? It's a fact, we paid £8 million with possible add-ons rising to £11 million in years to come.

He scored 9 in 24 league games last season, each goal from within the penalty area. Sounds like a striker to me

Borini can play on the right wing in the same way that Rafa said Robbie Keane can play on the left wing.

eds can you please post .

All LFC supporters to relax and look at things from a sensible view point and stop reading the papers and believing what the read. Paper does not refuse ink!
First lets look at the squad from last season and how far off the pace we ended up.
Carling Cup Winnere
FA Cup runners up
Premier league 8th place
I would also like to point out a few things. While we were not good enough we were very unlucky along the way too.
How many times did we hit the woodwork? turn half them into goals and who knows what our league position would of been.
How many pens did we miss? again turn half them into goals and where would we have been at the end of the season.
How many games did suarez and gerrard play together, between suspensions and injurys. Think what could of been if our best player played more time together on the pitch.
We lost Lucas for the season from early in the season. What if he was available for the season.

I'm not making excuses here but last season we had terrible luck and we still got to 2 cup finals. We only need 3 - 4 new players and we will be back in the hunt for CL football.
I would be more worried about the stadium. Its all quite in the club. How long does it take to make their mind up on a new stadium or redevelopment? We need a stadium that can hold 65,000 fan and fast. can anyone tell me where were are on this?
We must all give BR time to turn things round and remamber rome was not built in a day! If it was we would of hired their contractors..

Reminds me of what Brian Clough once said:

"Rome wasn't built in a day....... but I wasn't on that particular job"

Tom warner said on sky that there was an important phonecall being made today in regards to the stadium and that the fans just need to be a little patient on this issue as they dont want to say anything until its sorted properly as the fans have been let down before.Spade in the ground in 60ays and all that.Tommy Irish Red.

REF stadium news.
go to the website, match tab/ new stadium will fill you in upto 2009.

Ian Ayre and John Hnery have since spoken about the progress, albeit a little cryptic, a search will find both of these on google.

Most news now points towards re-development, but the whole area arounf Anfield has to be taken into consideration, and that means council/city officials getting involved as well as residents to make sure everyone singing off the same sheet.

Money has been spent on the stadium in the form of upgrades to lounge suites to bring them up to date, and externally corporate facilities are going to be provided.

Probably wise to say re-development will be the path they take, in partnership with city and re-generate the whole area residentially and commercially.
But this will take time to agree across the board/committees etc etc, plus we all know what happens when council officials get involved !
Piddy.

The team seems to be gradually getting some confidence back with BR in charge. We will be fine in 2012-2013. I can't wait!

Class - love Brian Clough.

Why do people want ryan babel back, he did nothing for us and obviously hoffenheim have had enough of him allready so what's the point. Everyone's whining about signing the wrong players and now people want babel back. For might of been good if he'd concentrated on football more but he has to many distractions.

Arsenal would have knocked us outa the cl 2008 only for him.

love the work of sir Alex...the Suarez saga illicits an endless stream of commentary from him re: Liverpools ethical conduct and/or lack there of, yet when 'golden boy' giggs does the dog and destroys however many relationships/families not only is it off limits, he goes so far as to threaten a media ban from Man Utd if the press continues to dig. Spare us your loud mouth hypocrisy

He'll be gone soon enough, one way or other, then we won't have to put up with his attempted manipulation of the FA, Premier League, media, other managers, referees etc etc. Will we miss him - not very much.
ND

Spot on mate!.

Its just like dirty politics.
Campaigns run on 'dirty and nasty talk'.
Truth is the old ba*tard and his bunch of disciples fear LFC, and the threat of Suarez.

Let's hope he doesn't end up with some role at the FA!

It would not surprise me!

Can you really see him disappearing into the back ground?

When he is not their manager he will be even worse; he will say whatever he wants when interviewed without any consequences.

Please do not put Sir before his name, it devalues the title of a SIR for people who have earned the right to the title through selfless.

He is nothing more than manipulating hypocrite that just got lucky.

GGK

He will get a job on the FA, sods law !
Piddy.

I laughed when he made the big deal about c adam diving.but it is ok for ronaldo to dive all over the place and ashley young is on standby in case tom daley gets injured.Tommy Irish Red.

Disagree?! ^^ Great now we have an official count of how many mancs we have left to weed out of our site.. and yes one dirtbag manager left to weed out the EPL n soon our league will be worthy of Beatles songs haha

It's no coincidence that he was pals with Tony Blair and Alistair Campbell - like three peas in a pod

Puzzled

hi Eds - as always am grateful for a great site. A bit of feedback if i may, how come you have decided to show replies to all rumours, previously you had to click to view replies. It makes it harder to scroll to each rumour. {Ed001's Note - we did it to help out those on mobiles, but we are going to change it so only the mobile site shows it that way.}

Things are looking quite promising at Liverpool in my eyes, that's as long as we keep hold of our important players in Suarez, Skrtel, Agger, Reina (Gerrard won't leave)!
Brendan Rodgers wants to play a style of Football similar to Barcelona's, and with the right players, could help Liverpool play some very enjoyable and entertaining Football
If we are to make the signings of Dempsey and Allen for good prices, then I feel they will be two brilliant additions to the club and could fit in to Rodgers style of play
We are linked with the Barcelona Youngster named Gerard Deulofeo, who I've actually rated quite highly for about a year or so, and would love to see him build a bright career at Liverpool
This would leave Liverpool hopefully playing good Football, we would of kept our Key players, added new talented players for good prices, and we will have a lot of young talent in Sterling, Suso, Shelvey, Ibe, Coady, Robinson and Deulofeu if he was to join!
Everyone should give Brendan Rodgers a chance, I'm hopeful he will do a good Job! YNWA!

i dont no who martin skirtel thinks he is ! he has one good season and he thinks hes a world class defender, if i wes brendan rogers id sell him to fhe highest bidder and further strenghin the squad. the 20-25mil quoted i would deffo take. he is not in the same class as other defenders weve had or have like sami, henchoz agger carra , and i think he had a cheek not stopping to speak to lfc tv after the match on saturday,

Sky Sports understands that Liverpool, West Ham and QPR have all expressed an interest in Barcelona starlet Gerard Deulofeu - ssn
--------------------------------------------------

Well if thats true and LFC want him then i can only assume that we would get him, but then again stranger things have happened, like Tom Ince going to Blackpool!

Why he might be a hammers fan

hi guys, not a rumour but a general anfield question, i am planning on taking my son to the stadium tour/museum next tuesday 31st july around 1pm. i will be coming from blackpool direction, i would like to know where is best to park ? is the big car park just on priory road round from arkles lane open on non match days ?

Yeah mate the car park is open all the time you only get charged to park there on match days.

You can park right next to the kop end shop, 30ft from the entrance to the tour.
kidmillions

You can usually park on the centenary car park on non match days to. steviep62

I did the tour and managed to get parked right next to the gates next to the ticket office, think there are about 5/10 spaces, free parking.

I work at Anfield and parking is not an issue on a non match day.

To each and every one of you, a million thanks

Be serious - how many of us have any idea of who Brendan wants in the side? Exactly! Let's lay off, not make ridiculous predictions and see what the beginnning of the season brings. None of us are as educated or skilled as BR so lets just believe in him and react as and when we have cause to. Personally, I like the idea and initial feedback. Scott

Personally, I like all the mystery and intigue, its exciting.
Nuff said.

Yep, there's nothing like a bit of intigue...
