Stewart Downing is set to hand in a transfer request as he attempts to force through his move to Liverpool.

The England winger is closing in on the switch to Anfield as he bids to follow Ashley Young out of Aston Villa.

He has been the subject of summer interest from Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish, but Villa's £19million asking price has put a block on negotiations.

Liverpool are refusing point blank to do business at that price, and have already looked at alternatives in the form of Wigan's Charles N'Zogbia and Dimitri Payet of St Etienne.

Downing, 26, realises the onus is now on him to revive the potential transfer, by making clear his desire to leave. -MirrorFootball

Why the hell does everyone think Downing is slow?! He's actually pretty fast if you actually watch him. Is it because he crosses from deep instead of getting the the by-line(incidently ideal for a certain AC)?

Ed002, with your French connections and i dont mean Gene Hackman tracking down drug barons.Have you got an opinion on Nolan Roux? Seems pretty robust and took his 2 goals on his only French u/21's appearance very neatly.What are your thoughts on him? And are we seriously looking at him.For the price he'd cost it would seem a like for like swap for N'Gog and Sureley must be as good and cheaper wages. You never player he could turn out to be a Little Pea.When we go for unknown players people tend to write then off before seeing them play .I'd take a punt on him but its not my money or upto me. Jonson6 {Ed002's Note - Nolan Roux has somehow passed me by. Sorry.}

Downing is defo staying @ villa and the saga is just a way to make the public think we are signing a mediocre winger with rubbish pace who is fairly old compared to fsg rules in buying youth anyway apparently the real target is Charles nzogbia and a bid of £10m has been accepted I know people think he is bad but put aside the club he is @ he is genuinely gifted and is much better faster and stronger(mentally and physically) than stu well that is all I know and also the rumors regarding Nara are true but no deal will be done til at least 2nd week of July

Ps Adam is dead on for next week

LFC A6

I agree with downing not fitting the policy, but adam is 25 so not the youngest. And mate whomis nara??

how can someone say that liverpool have a poor academy?!? Are they blind?? Robinson and Flano proved to those mancs that every lfc player is up to Premier League standard. and with sterling coming through the ranks aswell who surely has to be one of the best 16 year olds around!!!

A bit off track ed i know, just like to ask Irish Kev what part of Ireland he's from.Got a lot of family over their myself in Co Clare.And i just noticed your an Mma fan, i knows their are other forums for this but do you think Wanderlei will crush Leben or other way round.Should sign Thiago Silva, not the Milan centre back but a Brazilian light heavyweight fighter of the same name. Belive me no one would get passed him he's a monster. Sorry ed just that first time i've seen Ufc come up on the site and i get a bit giddy. My perfect weekend is watch Ufc sat night Sun morning, play footy for a crud Sunday league team half asleep cause event has kept me up all night.Then watch Liverpool if they were on T.V when i got back.Now that were back to Saturday footy due to no Europa league might play a bit better cause dem ufc events come thick and fast. Sorry for going off track ed.

I've said it enough times, and got shot down for it, but we are about to sign Edinson Cavani from Napoli. Dont doubt this is gonna happen, cos believe me, it is! I work alongside well known figures in the British media, and this transfer has been confirmed by one of them. Reason being, my man is close with a director at Chelsea, and said Director is not happy that Chelsea were not informed of Cavani's availability. My colleagues are amazed that Napoli have agreed to the deal, after only recently signing the player in a pre-arranged deal from Palermo.

Can all posters who ridicule this statement post their names clearly, so I know who to sneer at, when this move hits the news in a couple of weeks.

I was driving in my van on the way out of Poulton le Fylde next to Blackpool when i started following a red Ferrari with a private plate. the plate had a two figure number followed by the initials DC. Just gotta say with all this Cavani speak goin on.
Good player but did you watch Uruguay against Holland last week? Suarez set him up about about 3 times inside the box, not once did he hit the target.
Couldn't believe he never misses anything on youtube.
Ok he had one of those games, just pointing out that he may not be as wonderful as what you think as the Italian league is piss poor. Aquilani and Dossena are considered good players over there? mmm

Would any of the eds and fans out there think that Suarez could do with a bit of support himself. Its like he's expected to win up the league on his own. I say this because while we all know we need wingers for Carroll, do you not think Suarez could do with a narrow right mid to link up with? Its all wingers for Carroll which is what we need to get the best out of him, but are we paying enough attention as how to get the best out of Luis as well. We cant just give it to Luis and think he'll create something or score us a goal everytime we get in any s**t.Looked what happened when Gerrard was at his best, he won us game after game but soon as injury hit, everyone thought were f***ed, and 9 times out of 10 we were without him.Thats why K.K is strengthening the squad and the players linked most at the moment are like marmite amongst us fans at the mo. Adam and Downing might not be everybodys cup of tea, but we need to have a bench as well as the starters that can really make a difference. It was embarrassing last season, the starting 11 was always capable of beating any other team in the Prem but when we were in s**t, you looked at the subs.Poulsen, Jova, Cole, N'gog a keeper and and a couple of teenagers as promising as they are was all we had to turn to.We have to have a contingency plan if Luis is injured or suspended, we cant go back to be a 1 man team again because it affected the morale of the fans and team when Gerrard was ever missing when he carried us for 10 years, big time.Lets get behind who we sign, as K.K said he'll only sign players who'll improve the squad and Henderson Adam and Downing will improve our squad. They wont be the last signing's by any means so lets be patient and cant have the mentallety of if's Suarez is out, were f***ed and in deep s**t. If those thoughts rear their head again we can forget about winning anything.Doesn't matter what the starting 11 is, we've got to belive the players brought in to do the job, can do it seamlessly, and barely noticed when were smashing teams week after week be it Scum or West Brom. Henderson or Gerrard on the right so they can link up with Luis with short sharp passes and some clever movement. I think that we'll play with 1 out and out wide player and a bit narrower on the right. I think Suarez will benefit massively from having to play with Gerrard and some of the havoc they could cause. As good as Suarez is he's human an we seem to be just putting all our effort into getting Carroll help which is right but Luis needs some too. Chopper Read {Ed001's Note - personally I think he would like the wingers because they would stretch the defence and give him more space to play his game in.}

24 Jun 2011 22:58:17
Without sounding disrespectful, I thought that he just received a hefty fine of about £450k and wasn't sacked. {Ed001's Note - ok I am just going on what the news reports said earlier, they were claiming he was sacked after showdown talks. On top of the fine I mean, but you are right, I just checked, the news reports must have jumped the gun as the club are merely saying they are getting rid.}

This is a great example of why this site is great - fans challenging the ed's and ed's man enough to hold thier hands up.
Well done guys - respect!

24 Jun 2011 22:47:49
Aly Cissokho should be our no.1 target. 22, great player and could be one of the best full backs in the world in years to come. Do you agree eds? {Ed001's Note - yes definitely, him and Jose Angel are the best two left backs around at the moment in my opinion. Though it seems City have stepped in for him as their move for Baines is not going well, so I think we might have to forget Cissokho for now.}

24 Jun 2011 22:44:10
{Ed001's Note - they are entitled to their say, and I had the time to deal with it so I did. I don't find time to watch much, doing the sites, chasing up people for anything they know and watching football is far too time consuming. My daughter tends to hog the TV when she is here anyway if we are in, I just wish she would stop watching Spongebob *sighs*}

Be thankful she is not watching MUTV mate lol!!!
Question for ya, you say this site is going since about August 2010 (thought it was longer myself) - My question is: As the founder of the site, do you see the site still running in a 3 or 4 years as i assume it's quite time consuming for all you eds & probably quite stressful?!
It seems like yourself, ed002 & ed009 are constantly editing on here & don't get time off - you guys must need a break lol!

The Times are reporting that the fee for Adam is likely to be £8 mil plus add ons and £16 mil for Downing. Both to join in he next few days.

That would take our spending to around £40 mil. Still plenty more to come I feel. A left back and centre half plus perhaps Wickham takes us to £70. Still anything left for Mata, I doubt we'll spend over £90 mil even if we recoup a bit.

Exciting times ahead, as far as I'm concerned.

For all those saying Adam, Henderson, Downing, Boudabouz, Nzogbia aren't good enough for Liverpool -take a little more time to think. Apart from Gerrard we get absolutely no goals from central midfield (Mereiles got all his when he was playing in the hole). Yes, Lucas and Spearing punched above their weight for the second half of the season before flagging in the last couple of games - but neither one offers that much of a goal threat. Charlie Adam and perhaps, in time, Henderson would gives us a lot more fire-power, particularly when Gerrard is injured. Our wingers all cut in and our crossing in general is very poor - so Downing's left foot would be a good addition - and he pops up for goals fairly regularly. Our squad depth is quite weak and we lack pace through most of the side. A lot of the players we are looking at have pace and technique. The rest of the top four or five teams all have more depth, more pace, more firepower from midfield (and defense) and more width. We have a lot of ground to make up and we don't have CL footy to offer. Therefore, a lot of the players we are linked to, plus the return of Aquilani, would help strengthen the side.

24 Jun 2011 22:27:36
I'm a bit worried that Meireles is leaving. I thought he was our 2nd best player last year. The likes of Downing (too slow) and Adam are steady players but they hardly set the world on fire. Until we have top class wingers in our team and inject a bit of pace throughout the side then I fear we will never win the league. Utd have had the best wingers consistently for years now, this is where goals are created......when will the penny finally drop at Anfield?? I trust in KK because he is a legend, but I sincerely hope we get players better than we are currently being linked with.

bleacher report april 2011 on forwards linked.

According to Inside Futbol, Napoli are keen to keep hold of striker Edinson Cavani this summer as interest in the Uruguay star grows.

Cavani has been in lethal form in this season's Serie A and is one of the main reasons Napoli have been able to push for the Scudetto this season. Both Real Madrid and Liverpool are interested in signing the Serie A player.

The 24-year-old is Serie A's current top goalscorer with 26 to his name and is under contract until 2015 at the San Paolo, earning 1.8M per year.

De Laurentiis though is prepared to offer Cavani a one-year extension which would take his annual pay to 3 million but will also crucially insert a 50 million buy-out clause.

Am getting a bit frustrated at all this transfer news now.
It seems to be dragging on and on....

Charlier Adam should of been done and dusted.

I personally dont think Downing is good enough, do you eds?

Why have we not considered the Matt Jarvis? I think he wud be a better option.

How do you rate the following eds?

Matt Jarvis
Shane Long
Scott Parker
Scott Dann
Roger Johnson

cheers boys....quality site {Ed001's Note - I would rather have Downing, his crosses hit their intended target, unlike Jarvis who is woeful on his left foot. Shane Long is just not good enough, Parker is not good enough, Johnson was carried by Dann which showed with Brum's terrible defensive record after Dann's injury. Dann is the only one I would want.}

For what it's worth, my gut feeling is that we won't get Mata. I think when the U21 Euro is over then a lot of other clubs will come in & this will obviously make it more difficult for us to get him. I would love to be proved wrong & if my football predictions are anything to go by then he will sign on the first day of July. I would love to be proved wrong on this because I think he could be a really top player.

Liverpool looking at Adam?

I don't believe we will buy him as we can get better abroad. Such as Javi MAtinez (he is a must, watched him play and he is amazing), podolski and diego.

Wingers will be podolski who can play winger and upfront, mata who can play wing an upfront. Don't think downing rumors are legit seeing as they have now sold Young

Super job keep it up,

It makes me cringe to see the money being mentioned for Wesley Sneijder. Benetiz could have had him as part of the Alonso deal but of course the great Rafa knew better and paid 20 million for the great Alberto.

Oh no wait, no one ever mentioned him on the sites before that goal against England. You are just another anonymous child trying to act clever.}

Eds im sure you dont know this as you dont seem to know a lot lol but Kovac the former West ham Utd player has signed for Fc Basel for a likely replacement for Xherdan Shaqiri who has had several top european clubs interested in him, especially Liverpool. Please reply want a laugh at your ridiculous, Know it all comments. {Ed001's Note - what's your point? You don't think I can read Sky Sports like yourself? Or do you just like to make yourself sound like a complete knob? As has been pointed out a million times, though you are obviously too far up your own backside to read it, we had him watched a lot on Roy Hodgson's instructions. But he is not a player for a quick pass and move system and we did not consider him in January because of that. But, if you knew even a tenth as much as you think you know, you would know that about him.}

one other thing why are we paying over the odds for players?
what you think eds?? {Ed001's Note - I think Kenny knows better than you or I ever will, if he thinks he needs those players that is good enough for me. I don't see how you can say we are paying over the odds for players, we are paying what it takes to get them, isn't that how it should be?}

Hey ed's.. first time poster.. Not a rumour (but pls post in rumours) .. I think the imminent signing of Adams is a good thing for the club.. We get a decent player for 10 million(ish), a player who has shown (maybe not consistently enuf) that he does have a lot in his locker .. set pieces and key pass completion, for starters.. So let's concentrate on what the guy can bring to the club.. Assuming he signs of course!! .. and if he doesn't we'll get over it, and support the players that do come, as well as the one's we already have.. C'mon the Reds!!

Firstly - why on earth do people who watch a bit of telly and play computer games seem to think they know more about talent spotting than a man who has won european cups, championships, is the only player-manager to have won a double and took a mid table second division team to become champions within three years? I would trust a pilot how to fly a jet. I would trust a doctor to prescribe my meds. And I trust Kenny Dalglish to know what is best for the future of LFC. OK rant over. My banter however concerns #8. Where is KK going to play him? My thinking is that Henderson, Lucas and Adams are going to be pretty decent CM's. Henderson looks an absolute athlete from box to box - something Stevie used to do but is perhaps not best for. Adams is a smart passer. Do you play Steve as a deeper DM? Or, maybe on the right - where he was very effective in the good Rafa side. Stevie has had ongoing hernia problems and I reckon he will be used more sparingly, possibly even as an impact player.

Going back to the transfer process - I had an interesting chat with a management consultant who has built MBA programmes based on high performance and highly talented sport stars. Interestingly, he revealed some of tne qualities 'elite' clubs and managers look for. Obviously, talent - but that's the easy bit. However what big clubs and managers look for is 'game intelligence', leadership and how they respond in hard, tough situations. Example - Henderson and Adam show massive character playing for teams who do not have huge stars - and often they are competing with the likes of LFC, Chelsea, Man City - where they are struggling. In other words if you have the character to compete against big teams, where you are the under dog, imagine what they will achieve when they play for a team full of talent? Its a lot of subtle stuff they look for, such as do they give up? Do they stay calm with 5 mins to go and being 1-nil up? Can they change formation and adapt to what they do. You do not buy stars. You make them. What you start off with is raw talent, hunger, smart players, good attitude. Kenny instills belief and a commitment to team. Clarke gets them fit and playing to the system. For LFC, a more direct pass and move, which I suggest is more like the great German & Dutch sides than tippy-tappy Arse or FCB. The most important element in all of this is a clear system - and players must fit this, not the other way around. Listening to KK past months it is clear he wants a more cohesive LFC 'way', the academy, types of players, tactics, characters. Rafa had his style and for a while it worked but in the end it was too reliant on Torres and Gerrard. The return of Dalglish has seen more variety of goal scorers - and with Carrol, Suarez and possibly one more good striker (Wickham?) - less pressure on one person all the time. Carrol will be a nightmare to play against as he is such a strategic threat, knock downs, holding up, and if you back off him he shoots from 20-25 yards. The great LFC teams were terrifying, because if you stopped Keegan, Dalglish, Rush or Beardsely - well McDermott, Souness, Aldridge, Barnes, Houghton got space and bang! One nil to Liverpool. Two nil Liverpool. That is what I think KK is aimimg to build. If you stop Carrol or Suarez, then the likes of Stevie G, Henderson and Adams can punish gaps, mistakes and pulling defenders out of position - they have range of passing and great strikers of the ball, so its not up to SG from 40 yards all the time. I think LFC is in fantastic shape, a reinvigorated culture, smart business people doing business and investing in very special talent that suits a style of play, not just because they can do party tricks and have a cool name. My prediction is that LFC will win a Cup in 2011 and get into too three and then kick on to winning Premiership in 2013.

Juan Mata to sign for Liverpool next week, Di Maria to leave the liga for Liverpool to if Real Madrid fail to offer him a payrise.
Charlie Adam, Gael Clichy and Stewart Downing. set to sign before the international transfer opens. Also Scott Dann or Gary Cahill will be a centre back for Liverpool next season.
Xabi alonso and Aguero dont look likely but am sure if they wanted to leave there current clubs then Liverpool would put a bid in especially for Xabi Alonso. What do you think Eds? {Ed001's Note - I think it is unlikely, Mata still has a semi final and final/3rd place play off before he will even begin discussions.}

About the Xabi Alonso golf course thing.. yeah it may be true but they can't have spoken about transfers because that would be tapping up. Unless of course a fee has already been agreed or Real Madrid said they could talk to liverpool. Doubtful though.

RE: The above.
I know mate, just thought I'd let people know what I'd heard as there are some decent opinions amongst the misspelled rumours.

I mean, we're obviously after Adam, why would we go for Alonso?

Also, with regards to tapping up, it goes on all the time. It's a fact that Alonso was back in Liverpool recently, we'll just have to see.

Hey ed not sure if u have any stats avail but just wondered how they would look if u compared games played and pass completion, assists, tackles and goals with adam, henderson, lucas and meireles last season? My moneys on lucas being bottom of the lot so why wed consider selling meireles above him seems daft dont u think? {Ed001's Note - nope, stats are pointless on their own, look at Modric's if you don't believe. He is a quality player but his assists and goals are almost non-existent. There is a lot more to it than just those few stats you have listed, if there was all it was about then every club would only be trying to buy a couple of players.}

1) i think charlie adam deal will go through for 10m paid by LFC..
2) There's NO way LFC will pay 19m for Downing. i think 16m is enough to get him. 19m is for player like Juan Mata.
3)Which player gonna cover Lucas if hes injured?? i think we need to sign Gago for 10m. he got nice pass through, love tackling player also very skillful.
4)park chu-yong or wickham or nolan roux, either one of them is.a good backup striker..
5) i think KD will use 4-2-3-1 formation if we sign charlie adam. he will partner with lucas..just like mascherano partner with xabi alonso. Gerrard will play behind striker again and he ll be scoring a lot just like old time..

ED's Do you think the possible return of Aquilaini would be a positive thing for Liverpool. I personally believe that he could make a real positive impact next season from what i saw of him last season at Juve. We are defo not gonna recoup all of the £20 million that we spent on him so i think it is worth taking a bit of a punt and giving him another chance. I was just wondering your thoughts on this. {Ed002's Note - No I don't. I am sick of answering this question over and over again. We hear talk of Liverpool wanting players who want to play "for the shirt" but repeatedly fans keep saying that a player who hated pretty much every minute of his time at the club should be brought back. I really don't understand it.}

I think hazard would be perfect for us and we know comolii wants him {Ed009's Note - Aguero may still move to Juve, and even if he doesn't I very much doubt we will sign the player. Hazard is more possible, but still very unlikely. He wants Champions League football, preferably with one of Spain's big two.}

From ESPN's Transfer Rumor Blog

Valencia winger Juan Mata is said to be keen to join Liverpool, although they're yet to make an offer and Manchester City have already made an approach. A source close to the Spain Under-21 starlet told Goal.com: "While they are not playing in Europe next season, that would not be a hindrance, because Liverpool is a club with a big tradition. I can say that so far there has been no formal contact or offer from the club.

Mata has offers on the table from Premier league teams that are in the Champions League next season. For now, he just wants to focus on the national team in Denmark at the moment but as soon as that is over he will consider his future."

I am of the opinion that Aquilani is a good professional and will still do a good job regardless of which club he plays for. He will probably have ambition to stay in the national team - and that means win his place and perform for Liverpool. On the other hand, I understand that it is better to have personnel that love the club they play for and not just quality mercenaries. Still, I am calm about the situation.

Irish Kev,

I agree whole heartedly with your views, we need to get behind whatever players KK decides to sign, we may/may not agree with them but who are we to be a judge of player. Its even more so frustrating when your hear fans criticise the likes of Jordan Henderson, who hasnt even kicked a ball yet in LFC shirt. Get behind the lad.

KK knows a good player when he sees one, i ll give an example, Jamie Redknapp was his last signing in 1991, Redknapp was given his first team start by So*ness, by this raw young talent was spotted and snapped up by KK

Our club song is called "You'll Never Walk Alone", its about high time that impatient so called fans actually took time out and listened to the words. Through thick and thin we shall always stand behind our men.

Sorry for the rant Eds, but reading some of the post here would make you want to go into a darkened room with a bottle of gin, some prozac pills and a shotgun !

I notice a couple of people mentioning Bastian Schweinsteiger as a player that liverpool could really use, and I don't disagree. But another Bayern player who not so long ago was one of the most sought after players in the world, Frank Ribery would be in my opinion a great signing. Left sided players of his quality are very rare, although he could play either side. But then I guess if LFC showed any interest Man City, Chelsea etc would simply out bid us anyway.

Infact if LFC had made the quadruple signings from Bayern of Schweinsteiger, Ribery, Muller & Lahm however expensive that would practically have put them in the frame for a premier league trophy next season.

Maybe it seems a bit crazy but they would all settle in very easily, huge amount of international experience and by the time we finished this summer paying way over the top for good young english talent we will still have spent many tens of millions of pounds and probably be no nearere Man U and Chelsea as their signings will be equally as good or better.

All the fans need to calm down and have a bit more paciance. I am a very good friend wiv 1 of the liverpool first team players and i come on this site just to amuse myself, with all the potential links. Yes there is talk of adam and downing it isnt even july yet, loadssssss of time. I have been told the liverpool 1st team players have been promised 2 proven players from the premiership. Let the guessing games begin

24 Jun 2011 17:22:45
eds out of all the teams interested have we got the best chance if signing juan mata now? {Ed009's Note - it's very hard to say, but we have a very good chance, as good as any in my opinion.}

Aquaman is coming back...Meireles is being offered to Juve ( :( )...Villa want £19M for downing...Oyston is being a pr** over Adam sale, but i think he WILL sign...Wickham wants to sign for Liverpool not Sunderland or Arsenal...Mata's father prefers LFC to other clubs...

Good transfer news at LFC (except meireles)

YoungRed
---------------------------------------- Agree with you apart from the fact that Aquaman just doesn't want to come back and he's not good enough, we have enough midfielders anyway !!!

I am really gutted why Liverpool fans are complaining about the imminent signing of Charlie Adam. Having watched the guy played last year I am really convinced he will be the next BOSS for LFC. This guy is a natural leader. He carried Blackpool on his own last year and he is also a good goalscorer. Have you saw his freekicks!! AWESOME.
I can't wait his association with Gerard next year!!

Come on the Reds!!

24 Jun 2011 17:14:38
Because there hasn't been interest in Jovanovic, Cole and Poulsen you MORAN!!!

How do you know there's no interest? The European window doesn't open until July 1st so there might well be interest from abroad you MORAN!(!!)

24 Jun 2011 17:12:47
How many times are we gonna see the phrase... Charlie Adam to sign by (insert Date Here)... I think we can safley assume that no one knows the date as no one can judge when oyston will stop acting this way. I can understand not wanting to loose a player but it happens to everyone... just get on with it.

24 Jun 2011 17:09:09
To clear things up: Dalglish DID NOT offer Meireles to Juve. They came up with a bid, worth cash + Melo. And our answer was we are only interested in straight cash swap; and Juve was told to bid; starting from 13.5 million. But we are willing to listen to offers for him though.

24 Jun 2011 17:08:43
Just a couple of points to remember everyone:

1. Spending big money on a big player does not always guarantee success. Examples?
Joaquin to valencia
denilson to betis
Torres to chelsea
Melo to Juve
Ibra to Barca

2. Buying a premiership player does not guarantee they will fit at another premiership team. Examples?

Robbie keane to lfc
Bellamy to...well anywhere
Bentley from rovers to spurs
Jenas from newcastle to spurs

Just keep this in mind when suggesting signings. We should never sign any player based solely on 1 criteria bet it price or status or prem experienced. Signings (and subsequently suggestions) should be based on a more rounded and holistic view. In my opinion ability to handle pressure is the most important attirbute after ability when buying players for a club such as ourselves...otherwise they end up like Stan Collymore. Talented but cant handle the spot light properly.

"{Ed002's Note - My opinion that Adam is not good enough is well known. Downing, I am not hard over on but may well be a good squad player.}"

I completely agree with ed on this one.Adam not good enough and downing a squad player. why we would spend 15m on a squad player is beyond me. We should go for someone better. Mata is THE man we need to sign and hopefully payet. ed is this realistic?? {Ed009's Note - I think both Mata and Payet are realistic signings, but whilst interest in Mata seems very real, that in Payet seems to have died down. Remember Downing's purchase wouldn't negate that of Mata, as they can both play in several positions.}

24 Jun 2011 16:42:31
why do people keep coming on here slating Charlie Adam? He is a quality player that plays good forward passes, just what we have been missing since Alonso left. Adam or Meireles? i would take Adam every time-Meireles is just too lightweight and injury prone for english football! Just trust Mr. Dalglish - he knows best!

ok have a half decent source he says clichy is the one they want any one else as a left back is just rumour at the moment , adam deal is getting further away as dc and co getting impatient and rightly so , xabi alonso returning is very very likely although not 100%, mata looking likely as well but same as xabi there is a way to go but source was sure of one thing and that was a £25-35m signing is going to happen and we are all going to be very very happy with this one when i asked who he said real madrid player not xabi , fingers crossed

No contact from LFC about alonso. LFC Do not appear to be interested in re-signing him for whatever reason.

{Ed002's Note - Sorry, I don't see it as an appropriate thing to discuss. I explained at the time that there was no chance of Mourinho or Villas-Boas becoming Liverpool manager. So it should not be of any relevance now.}

Very sorry Ed002 it was just something that came to my mind earlier on when watching a piece on AVB on SSN which made me think back to then, just thought that seeing it is all done and dusted you might have revealed why, silly me.

Not a rumour but a general train of thought.

Everyone needs to stop whinging about the so-called average ayers we're linked with. quite simply we need more premiership standard players. Downing has played and performed well in the prem for years. Adam had a great season in a poor team and knows what English football is like. Enrique and N'Zogbia fall I to the same mould.

We've had poor buys from the continent and beyond for years now, more failures than successes so going his way is the best option. Players that you know are going to get the job done as opposed to the likes of Dossena And Babel.

I hope we fill the necessary roles (LB LW CB ST) with prem quality players and maybe one high profile buy. This is a season to rebuild, reclaim a champs spot, then press on from there. Let's support the club, not just the team on the pitch.

Great site eds.

I would be really happy if we get the following players and I think they're possible-

Adam Johnson / Santi Cazorla £18m
Juan Mata £22m
Leighton Baines 18m
Scott Dann £16m
Xabi Alonso £20m
Connor Whickam £10

We would go into next season with a great chance.
What do you think eds?

Carzola to Malaga really?

To the guy who said Adam aint good enough well i think his left foot is worth 10 million alone he has a wide range of passing, can take set peices including free kicks and pens, has an engine on him and can score goals but i do think we need to compliment him with good movement upfront and pace on the wings

Hello Eds,

Quick question for you.

Seeing as we are linked to maybe sending some youngsters out on loan I was wondering can we dictate how many games they play for example.

The reason I ask is that we tend to use youngsters more sparingly as the can burn out easy and maybe be prone to injuries later if played too much too young(like Fowler and Owen) Obviously we would need some sort of control but dont know how much we get!

Any thoughts? {Ed002's Note - Provisions can be put in contracts and agreed.}

not an edd but im stating my view.
if u think we are gonna have a team with quality players such as messi , ronaldo , fabregas etc on each position on the field ur mistaken. In 09 we beat sides for fun with reira & kuyt on the wing. im getting sick of people saying '' downing not good enough adam not good enough '' i have read this statement about 100 + times in about a week.
adam , downing will be first team/squad players. Yeah thats right you build a team first. players such as mata etc will be BOUGHT in also.
stop judging players without seeing them kick a ball its pointless.

This was written in Guardian UK today. I know some will say that how can I say something against King but at the end of day our club is bigger then KD and DC and I think at this moment of time selling Raul will be bad Idea. Below is what was written in paper today.
-------------------------------------------------
Raul Meireles's reward for been named Player of the Year by Liverpool fans could be a one-way trip to Turin. Juventus have gone all goo-eyed over the midfielder and have offered Brazil midfielder Felipe Melo in part-exchange. Kenny Dalglish has weighed up Melo against his criteria for new signings and decided the Brazilian is neither a) Stewart Downing, b) Charlie Adam, c) British or d) overpriced and has asked for £13.5m in cash for Meireles instead. Juventus are deciding whether or not to smash open the piggy bank.
-------------------------------------------------
I know I will get abuse because this seems to be the way that we fellow reds are treating each other these days.Its very disappointing who needs rival supporters.

24 Jun 2011 15:44:12
Ed, if liverpool decide to loan out Sterling, which club would you want him to go to and why? for me it would be QPR. He knows the players there, they lack quality on the wings so he can get some more game time and they are know in the PL. {Ed009's Note - I don't want him to be loaned at all; he's too young in my opinion for regular first team football, and being move to another club could stunt his development. If any though, then QPR or Norwich would probably be the best.}

24 Jun 2011 15:37:47
A question for Ed002, before King Kenny signed the permanent deal there were loads of rumours regarding Mourinho taking over but you continually said there was no chance and you said that there was a well known reason why, and when asked what the reason was you never once answered it? To whoever thinks that Carroll and Suarez only came because of the Torres money is full of s**te.We'd have bought Suarez anyway and was in the process of signing him when Torres spat the dummy out and thought he left us in the s**t.Suarez himself said he thought he'd be partnering Torres but it didn't bother him he left, he said he never signed to play with Torres but to play for Liverpool.To much negativity folks lets just get behind what the owner's and management team then we can have a moan at the end of the season if we do s**te. Until then i'm following K.K with blind faith and will continue to do so because we'll make the top 2. Only us and City in my opinion has a chance to win it this season. And also, we wont do an Arsenal, come 4th in a 2 horse race, lol when i heard that. Faith is the key word now. Judgment the key word in May.Simple really . Jonson6

What would fellow reds/eds think about the signing of Bastian Schweinsteiger if he were available? Seems just the sort of player the king would like; works hard for the team and still only 26 with bags of experience
Would love too see this happen would be a much better signing than Charlie adam don't know how much he would cost but would be highly unlikely as no champions league football {Ed009's Note - if he were available it would be an absolutely fantastic signing but he would cost far too much when other positions are of far higher priority.}

I have been told LFC will sign:

Stewart Downing - £17.5 Million + CL Bonuses
Dimitri Payet - £9 Million
Juan Mata - £22 Million
Charlie Adam - £8 Million
Connor Wickham - £9 Million + Bonuses
Gael Clichy - £8 Million

Squad numbers won't be announced until all deals are completed, with the exception of Mata and Downing who will wear 11 and 10.

I'm also told we will make a BIG signing to please the fans, no idea who it is, any idea's who it might be

To everyone who doesn't want Stewart downing anywhere near Liverpool click unbelievable and to the people who do well I really feel sorry for u wanting an at best average winger. A better and cheaper option would be to buy someone like nzogbia payet or splash out on hazard mats Perotti bojan god even bringing Edgar davids out of retirement again would be a better option than Stewart. Ed ur opinion would be good but realistic opinion not personal {Ed009's Note - you want my opinion on Downing, but it not to be what I personally think? Very hard question, but I think he would be a decent signing, and his stats (as much as I had to use them) back this up.}

Irish Kev, Wilcox came through the youth system at Rover's.Like yer man said Ripley from Bora. I dont think Wilcox played for the England B side, not sure if he made a squad or 2.I know Ripley played in the match against San Marino, the game that Stuart (great player but makes McClaren's tactical nous looks like Pep G or K.K)Pearce's famous back pass to put them 1 zip up mate.Cant have more then 5 caps at any senior level between them.I get your point though Kev i think.Is it something along the lines that they were hardly house hold names and won the Prem, and with people moaning about Downing and Adam joining not being good enough but look what K.K did with them ? I agree wholeheartedly with you if ya point something like it mate. I think they'd improve our team a lot more then some folk seam to think like Henderson will and Carroll will when fully fit. Thats if we get them of course. Jonson6

----------------------------
Jonson6,

That's pretty much it!
I just want folk to be positive!
This is not the samarathans as far as i'm aware & the longer people dwell in self pity (which is what is happening) the longer we will stay out of the running for the title.

People need to realise that this is not Football Manager 2011 & they don't really know what they're talking about - whereas Kenny actually does!!
Amazing isn't it?
We actually have a great, proven, title winning manager & people still think they know better.

Personally i believe it was Kenny who pulled the plug on the Maveraux deal - Comolli wanted Sylvain but Kenny didn't so he (Kenny) probably made the negotiatons impossible for Maveraux to sign.
That is very good news if so - it means Kenny DOES have the final say on which players we get in.

I mean some people are already writing off players careers who haven't even signed on the dotted line for us.
We'd be lucky if Downing or as good a winger as him signs for us so get off yer high horses ya snobs!
It's not just players that makes a club great - it's the fans too.
And to be honest right now, a lot LFC fans are acting like spoiled brats.

This time last year we were looking at going out of existance potentially.
In the past 6 months we have signed 3 players for a combined fee of £75m approx.
When will the doom prophets actually be happy?
If we signed Aguero, Hazard, Messi & Ronaldo in the morning we'd have unknowledgable idiots on saying "Why didn't we sign Drogba cause he's better than Carroll?" or "We should have bought Marin cause he's younger than Ronaldo".
Never happy!

WE COULD HAVE FOLDED 8 MONTHS AGO YOU MUPPETS!

Be greatful & remember we have got everything we asked for from the owners since they came in!
The first proper transfer window is only just open & they are working on expanding the ground / building a new stadium.
What more do you ungreatful moaners want?
What has happened to the real LFC fans out there?
Where are you guys?

Cheers,

Irish Kev. (Sorry for the long post - but i'm sick of the moaners).

Afternoon Eds,

Just wanted to post regarding to Meireles - all the papers are saying he is not needed and surplus to requirements, however im not sure thats the reason as to why he may be leaving.

Raul signed a contract for 30K pw set to double if he had a successful debut season (which he did), however that was under the previous management and so does this change things? I remember reading quotes from him at the end of the season where he was moaning about how little he is paid and admitted that he had much higher expectations of what we would achieve this year.

Also, if FSG's transfer budget included the sale of Aquaman, is it possible that becoz we not get good value for him, they want to sell Meirelles, a much more 'sellable' player and get more money and keep aqua. This would make much better sense from a business perspective.

I think the player perhaps being slightly un-happy and possible decision to cash in on him rather than Aqua are much more likely reasons for his sale than he is not needed!

What do you guys and eds think?

RedChris {Ed009's Note - I think that Aquaman will not return to Liverpool due to his willingness to tell anybody he wants to remain in Italy.}

Blackburn won the title with Shearer, Sutton and Le Saux were they considered bad players?
---------
Never rated le saux myself good going forward and good crosser but lacking defensively bit like johnson. sutton was just the nineties version of berbatov but with less skill. Shearer was amazing though.
Even if I did rate those players that's still only 3 players.

I put blackburns entire success down to two men. Shearer and dalglish. Shearers goals and dalglishs tactical nous. Speaks volumes for kk ability that he won prem with blackburn even if they did have to limp across the line and hope for utd to lose.
That's a bigger an tougher achievement than winning it with lfc inn 80s

What would fellow reds/eds think about the signing of Bastian Schweinsteiger if he were available? Seems just the sort of player the king would like; works hard for the team and still only 26 with bags of experience
______________________________
Would love to get him except we already have way too many central players. Great player and would love to have him if we can offload the likes of Poulsen, Aqua, Cole, Maxi, Jova and loan out Shelvey.

Fantastic player, but probably reluctant to leave Bayern.
He would also command a high fee and/or salary.
He would be an ideal signing, but no such interest has been made.

I am a big Liverpool Fan and am really disheartened at the thought of losing Meireles...what is the most recent news on his situation?
1. Does he want to go?
2. Do we want rid? Do we need his transfer fee?

Personally I feel that if we are trying to build a squad to habe a crack at getting our noses back in the top four and hopefully higher then he is a player (arguably our best player of last season) that we need.... For a very long time we have had no strength in depth and unless we are relying on thecash from any propoded move then he should be kept?
__________________________
As a huge Reds fan I also am disheartened by the rumour of Raul leaving the club. I love him on and off the field. He is a class player and I think he brings alot to the club and team. I really hope this isn't true and doesn't happen.
Eds-I heard one rumour about Lavezzi? Any truth to the matter? {Ed009's Note - Lavezzi is a player we were previously interested in, pre-dating the January transfer window. Lavezzi's agent also does a fantastic job at suggesting clubs are interested in the player by openly denying they are. I doubt the player will be sold by Napoli, a team who are trying to push on, rather than sell their best.}

Are some of you stupid. Maxi isn't going nowhere, he's in KK's plans for next season and he said he doesn't want to leave yet, he said he'd like to move back to Argentina in the future, not yet. Anyway, not much going on lately, I expect Charlie Adam, Downing and Enrique all to sign. Still unsure about who we are going to be signing for the ST position since there has only been Wickham who has been strongly linked recently. Same with the CB position, still unsure. KK & DC are keeping it all quiet so who knows.

Another one coming thru from my sources at Melwood..Cahill being bidded for with Shelvey & Sterling on loan next season.. It's a win win situation, we get a top class defender, and bolton get 2 quality youngsters that gain invaluable experience..

-------

Do you seriously think that Sterling would go out on loan? Is he really ready for "invaluable experience" at Bolton? Do you really think that one of Liverpool's most promising youngsters would be handed out to another team to nurture at 16 years of age? I think not!

Just wondering in relation to the back up keeper situation, has there any keepers been looked besides Doni, the Roma keeper? in terms of expierence and possible availability, do you think someone like Steve Harper might be a considered option, I know it might be short term, but the lad Krul at Toon seems to have learnt abit off him and maybe he could do same for Gulasci.

To be fair to the doubters of the owners, we had bids that would have totaled in excess of 75m rejected in the last week of the transfer window. Not willing to spend money, my ass. And that doesn't include the 57m or whatever for Suarez and Carroll. So... Let's say 130m wouldve been spent if all bids accepted. Hmmm.

Jaoquin is over rated
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

For starters Joaquin is NOT over-rated, he is a brilliant player, but the circumstances of this transfer are more complicated than the original poster is aware, Joaquin is 29 yrs old, had 1 year left on his contract and was offered a two thirds paycut to sign a new contract, naturally he declined and Malaga capitalised, had valencia kept Joaquin at his current 3m a year wages, they would've had to pay these for an entire year then lose him on a free transfer which would do massive damage to the club, valencia were on the ropes with this one, and we raped by very clever malaga staff.

So i feel it's a bit harsh to criticise Damien Comolli over something like this, don't you?

did they embarass themselves against part time post men and milkmen the following year? Did they win the league again?

Its simple, blackburn won because kenny is a very astute tactician and motivator. He got the best out of bad players because no good players wanted to go to blackburn. He now has the option to get the best out of world class players. Here's hoping.

Hello Ed's,

Im aware David Villa is avaliable as Barca are eyeing Aguero or Sanchez. Is this true? Villa is a admirer of Liverpool and insisted if he did go to England, Anfield would be his destination. These quotes were a couple of years back now but in all fairness Ed's what would you say the chances are we move in for him this summer?

Adzii {Ed009's Note - very slim. He would be pricey and too old for our transfer policy. Personally though I feel he'd be a good signing as part of a front three.}

Reports of serious wagecutting are circulating in Valencia after Joaquins departure for Malaga, it has been reported that Joaquin was offered 1m per season on his new contract, which is 2m less than his current 3m a year contract, the club are very serious as Joaquin said he would play for 2m, but this was rejected with Malaga offering 2.4m. There are reports circulating that this may be to offer younger players an increased wage in order to stay, this includes Juan Mata, also to cover the wages of new signing Dani Parejo and players returning from loan spells that will feature for valencia this season(Rami and Feghouli). But naturally, all other stories going around are that they are still in a financial hole and are desperately trying to reign in their wage bill.

So hopefully for LFC it's the latter stories that are correct and Mata is still leaving the club.

i dont see a problem losing any of our current mid field except stevie g, its our problem area now and the reason we struggled to 6th- merieles: too weak and unenvolved in games, where does he play? too weak for CM and not good enough for AM... spearing/lucas: i put these 2 in the same bracket because they have the same problems, we need an athletic big physical presence in the middle, someone to intimidate with ie a m'vila, right now opposition look at our CM and think easy ride, lets face it- suarez and carroll up front, nothing wrong with them and a back 4 of johnson, carra, agger(when fit) aurelio (when fit) isnt all that bad either, its in midfield we lost so many games. i know im gonna get 'but lucas was our best player last year' thats the reason we finished 6th! if gerrard was our best player we would have a champs league spot! im sorry they try, but just not good enough for lfc. 2 signings in midfield of m'vila or (the french based) sissoko and mata and 2 at the back of maybe cahill and vargas, not only is champs league calling but a real chance of 19! (gk)reina, (rb)johnson (cb)cahill (cb)agger (lb) vargas. (rm)kuyt (cm)gerrard (cm)m'vila (lm)mata with suarez and carroll upfront

Liverpool are finding it hard to find buyers for aqua, Cole, Jovanovic, Ngog and Maxi due to their high wages so expect loans out with us paying a % of wages.

Really hope we sign Arda Turan it's not often a Top Class footballer states that he only wants to play for Liverpool.
Rafa tried to sign him awhile back, but now his agent is saying the time is right to move.
Think he's definitely on the radar and would be great signing, but just say he signed and things didn't work out. His resale value would still be great.
So not a rumour but reading between the lines and making an educated guess I'd say he's nailed on!!

a quick question ed do you our ability to get rid of some of the deadwood will directly affect which players we sign. i cant see someone like mata coming in with his high wages when we have cole and jovanovic on 100k+ each. with lack of interest in these players will we be stuck with them. {Ed002's Note - I expect Jovanovic will be moved on regardless; Cole I am not so sure at this point. Well as I'm sure the ed's will confirm, i reported yesterday that Merieles will be leaving to Juve....on this matter, it isnt true it is for family reasons, but is instead bcos KK would use the money for other transfers, and Meireles is the easiest to sell out of the three.

Ed, Does Mata want to come to Liverpool? {Ed009's Note - there is no way of knowing a player's preference unless he comes out and states it, and even then it is subject to change like any other human emotion. I do know his father (and agent) was impressed with the vision of the club and Mata knows he would be guaranteed game time here, so they are surely relatively impressed. It is now a case of making a viable offer and a generous wage package to the player if Liverpool want to sign him.}

Are people just saying Raul Meireles is not that good because they are preparing themselves for his possible departure and are making the transition from love to hate a little bit easier, because all season he was one of our best players and until a week or so ago people were still of the same opinion they were when he was close to winning fans favourite last season.

This is from a Blackpools fan on the Adam saga and I think he has a point.
"I couldn't care less about this story. There are so many people with their fingers in the Charlie Adam pie, with Rangers getting a cut of the transfer fee per their sell on clause, Adam himself getting a cut, Belekon rumoured to be on a share for financing the deal in the first place, Ollie on a cut for "developing" the player, the agent on 10% probably. Even if we do get £10 - £12m for Charlie Adam, how much of the cash left over after everyone has been paid will be ringfenced to buy a quality replacement for Adam ?? Not a lot I'd guess."
What a pantomime!

that is a very good point, but doesnt even take into account the cost of replacing Adam in the squad and the new players wages!

personally, i'd rather just keep Meireles - how many other players can say they have played RW, LW, CM, CAM and ST in the same season?!!!

Ok so Fenway got Liverpool out of debt.. but if you look at the transfers during january Transfer window, they actually only spent 2 million on players. we sold babel and torres... and got carrol and suarez. It is looking like a sell to buy procedure that we saw in the Gillett and Hicks years, which is very worrying. Talks bout the st...adium were meant to come to a decision on what was going to happen in March.. none of us are none the wiser about whether we are re-developing anfield or building a new stadium... again that sounds all too familiar of G&H's. We are hearing that we are going for 7 players. We have bought Henderson and I know very little bout him... I am not jumping for joy that we have him as I do think we are lacking in other areas of the park. Mata would be an excellent signing for us as he can play on the wing and play upfront as well. we need another 2 strikers i feel, 2 or 3 wingers a left back and a central defender. All this talk of getting an understudy for reina... and buying very average players is not at all gonna help our situation. We have actually limited ourselves more, with talks of Ngog leaving and Pacheco going out on loan. We still have deadwood in the team... and time is ticking... we need to get spending, less of the selling for the minute. {Ed002's Note - The bottom line is that there is a need to improve the squad. This seems to be in hand with what happened in January and what is beginning to happen now. Good business would be to improve the squad by not spending money. You need to think about the players making the move to Anfield, not just seeing vast amounts of money being spent.}

24 Jun 2011 13:15:31
I totally understand your post kev, but answer me one question, with our transfer policy of buying young players with bags of potential and a high sell on value, , , in three to five years how much would you estimate carroll35mill henderson17mill to be worth, because i for one cant see us getting any where near them valuations with the fifa fair play rules coming into effect(heres hoping im wrong)

aRED4LIFEnotjust4XMAS {Ed001's Note - surely the only important thing is whether they win us trophies? I really don't care if they are worth 20p or 20m if they win us the league.}
---------------------------

The point is - We may never need to sell them at all if they work out!
The Carroll transfer was a freak one because Torres was sold for £50m.
We still made a £15m profit there.
In fact we got 2 strikers for the price of one pretty much.

I hear what you're saying with the FIFA fair play rules thing but to the best of my knowledge that is a "best practice" thing & we / other clubs don't HAVE to abide by the rules - but if we / they don't, then we / they may get fined or banned from europe.
I am pretty sure clubs wont stick overly rigidly to those rules in any case but maybe Ed001 / Ed002 can inform you more on this as Ed002 seems to be fairly read up on this from my previous experience reading his / her posts on the subject.

But to hazard a guess at your question:
Carroll - in 3 years possibly £6 - 10m.
Henderson - in 3 years possibly £5 - 8m.
But it really all depends on numerous things such as form, injury history, wage, contract length, current / ex International player etc etc.
Sorry if i'm wrong.
Cheers,
Irish Kev.

With regards to the Adam saga........& previous comments [if correct] that his preferred choice would be to play 30 miles away down the East Lancs [sorry cant bear to say their name], it does leave a bitter taste - thoughts Ed? I was brought up in the 70/80's when putting the red shirt on meant something & passion/commitment was everything, accepting 2nd best was never an option.

Great site Ed & here's hoping for 3-4 signings which will improve the squad which I wont mention as they've been named consistently for the last few weeks + a couple of KK specials.

Preston Red {Ed001's Note - I don't think it matters to be honest, so long as they give their all when they pull on our red shirt, I don't think we can ask any more of a player than that.}

It is a simple game of improving what you have:

Poulson out: Henderson In
Aquilani out: Adam in
Javonovic out: Downing in
Cole out: Mata in
Insua out: Clichy in
Ngog out: Wickham in

You can then shift the dead wood: Aurelio (robinson to cover) Degan (Flano to cover) Maxi etc etc

Simple game

Downing will not be signing villa want to keep him and that is why they have put a 20 million price tag on his head adam will also be sigining with villa to join up with mcleish and thats the kind of club them two players will be able to play at they are not liverpool class!!!

What exactly is liverpool class, i keep reading this over and over and nobody has quite explained what liverpool class is, downing is a good winger, adam is a quality midfielder who can do alot, have you seen our bench for the last 2 seasons?? it's been frighteningly AWFUL, nothing less than awful, joe cole, poulsen, n'gog, kyrgiakos, maxi, it has been woeful, downing and adam would be 2 good quality additions to our squad, because this is why in the last 2 seasons we have fallen SO short of where liverpool fc should be, because our squad has been so poor, so can you please tell us all who these liverpool type players are out there and why they are going to come here to a team with no european football?? we can build a great squad this summer, but not with many world class players who will be willing to come

i really do not understand this negative attitude that some so called Fans have got.. seriousley, we (LFC Fans) have always been credited with being knowledgable, Of knowing that the team is more than one person... too many of you have fallen in to this media trap that only big name signings for trillions of pounds are going to be good enough.. or only players that come from other so alled big teams are going to be class enough.. Im old enough to remember when LFC won things and we did it with Class and with style and we did it with players like Downing and Adam.. We bought good honest, hard working footballers and merged them with one or two great footballers.. beardsley and Houghton, Mcmahon and Gillespie.. not big name signings but they were a team!!!
Quit whining and support ur team!!

Hi Eds,
Which Ed deleted my Ryan Giggs post this morning, it was up around 2.30 am this morning, its wasnt that offensive!

Charlie Adam yes or no?......

for me this is simple, he has to sign, we have to get this player, although one or a few of the Ed's don't rate ashley young what so ever i think he's a very good player and will only go from strength to strength at the spam, fergie has shown overs how many years he rarely buys a poor player, i feel we have to get adam or united will, and it's obvious in this window their not messing around, 2 in already, modric well on their radar, new goalkeeper coming, fergie would love adam, but so does kenny, KK can get the best out of any player, he proved that in half a season making average players like Maxi and meireles shine with stunning performances, Adam has already proven he's a quality player, and for 10 million pound all's i can say is get him in !! he will do a great job, he has a sweet left foot, he wants to create, he wants to score, if he gets a spot in our midfield next to stevie he will become even better, nuff said !

Ok to all about the situation with Mata, people need to read between the lines nothing more:

"Juan Mata is interested in moving to Liverpool and his representatives are holding out for an approach from the Reds - despite offers from other Premier League clubs including Manchester City, Goal.com can reveal.

The 23-year-old winger, currently starring for Spain at the European Under-21 championships in Denmark, is expected to leave cash-strapped Valencia this summer, with England his likely destination.

According to a source close to Mata, an approach from Liverpool's director of football Damien Comolli would be welcomed after the tournament has reached its conclusion.

If Liverpool are interested, then the player would also be interested to hear from them, " said the source.

"While they are not playing in Europe next season, that would not be a hindrance, because Liverpool is a club with a big tradition.

Yes, it s true that there have been rumours linking Mata to Liverpool but I can say that so far there has been no formal contact or offer from the club.

The source added: Mata has offers on the table from Premier league teams that are in the Champions League next season.

"For now, he just wants to focus on the national team in Denmark at the moment but as soon as that is over he will consider his future.

"Mata is due back in Spain next week. There is a lot of speculation linking him to a move to the Premier League so he will sit down and make a decision about his future then.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with Mata since making their interest in the player known at the end of 2010.

But with the club languishing in the bottom half of the table and toiling under Roy Hodgson, Mata declined to entertain the prospect of a January move.
However, the arrival of Kenny Dalglish and with him Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez saw a dramatic change in the team s fortunes and Mata's representatives believe that the club has shown the ambition to be considered as a possible destination for the young star.

Liverpool, who have prioritised signing a top-quality wide player this summer, have balked at Aston Villa's £19m asking price for 26 year-old Stewart Downing, whilst St. Ettiene's Dimitri Payet is also a target.

Goal.com understands that one of the Premier League clubs strongly interested in Mata is Manchester City, whose attempts to sign Udinese winger Alexis Sanchez are likely to be thwarted by Barcelona - the player's preferred destination.

The player is close to David Silva, who has been urging City manager Roberto Mancini to sign his former team-mate this summer.

Chelsea have also been linked with a move for Mata, amidst the suggestion that he could help get the best out of misfiring £50m striker Fernando Torres, but it remains to be seen whether he is coveted by the newly-appointed manager Andre Villas-Boas.

While Mata only signed an extension to his contract earlier this year, it s believed that an offer in the region of £22m ( 25m) would trigger a release clause in his contract with the Spanish club."

Now let's have a look at this...It doesn't matter if it is after the Euro or before in order to make assumptions for this situation. Player will move 100%. Since he will, a team must meet the asking price(which is around 25 mil, bargain for Mata). As I said earlier CL for him and money is not a must, if the team gives him potential to become a great. So stop saying it is a dream because we are not in CL, we are not this year, he knows sooner or later we will get the CL position.

Potential suitors are: Liverpool, Barca, United, City and Chelsea.

I definitely exclude Barca as they don't need him at all, since they will get Sanchez and with their financial problems he is a luxury buy they "can't" afford. Also Valencia will need money as they are desperate for money, not for Villa. United will only buy De Gea and another cheap midfielder who is a prospect, they will not buy a star. If they go for Mata I believe we will have the upper hand because we will not let ourselves lose this battle too. So I exclude United also. Chelsea will buy for sure a Porto player and I don't see them going for Mata at all. What remains is City and as Kaka shove them the "no history" reason, Mata will do exactly the same and he wil choose Liverpool even if City offers him CL.

We are linked with several players, but I definitely see Mata a priority for us. The only case in which we won't go for Mata is if we buy Downing AND Johnson, before proceeding seriously for Mata, highly unlikely. For me, if we mean business, he is the most likely to join us(apart from Downing), even if we are going for other targets now since we can't do business with him yet. This doesn't mean he is least likely to join us.

i do not feel to botherd that meireles could be leaving, yes he had an okay season, but in truth he had an decent 2nd half to the season, the 1st half of the season he was poor, arguably because of roy hodgson, but maybe not, with gerrard, lucas, henderson, spearing, and most likely adam coming in, i feel his role in the centre of the park is limited, he scored 5 goals in 6 games then he couldn't hit a barn door again like 1st half of the season, wingers will certainly be brought and he showed in the 1st half of the season he can't play out wide, so i feel it will not be a great loss, and if we learned anything at all from torres leaving, EVERYONE is replaceable, so we needn't worry over this one

24 Jun 2011 12:32:03
The reason Meireles is being sold is because he will be replaced by none other then Xabi Alonso. Adam is just a smoke screen.

I really hope we sign Arda Turan. Looked him up on Youtube and the guy is amazing. I haven't been that exited about a player since i watched Suarez. He's always nutmegging everyone and makes them look stupid half the time. The lad simply has skills that rival some of the best players in the world IMO and i think we should go all out to get him. Some of the videos show him getting hacked and he just gets on with it. I defo believe he could handle the physicality of the prem. Please NESV/KK/DC, get this guy!. I'm sure we can match or exceed bids from any other clubs.

People need to have a little more patience it isn't even July the 1st yet. If you don't like the way the club is running itself and how KK is working, I suggest you go and support another team. We are back to the Liverpool way and the nonsense getting posted on the site recently is shocking. Old school fans will have the same understanding.

Ed do you like me, find it wierd that we have not signed anyone for our 2 main positions ? Left back and the wings ? Do you think we may be looking at players from teams abroad for those positions instead of those from the Premier League ? thanks , {Ed001's Note - I don't find it weird at all considering most players are still on their holidays or playing in tournaments.}

I personally would much rather see Raul in midfield instead of Charlie Adam. People rave about Adam's deadball skills but apart from that is he really any good? Is he any better than Raul in finding the killer ball?
----------------------------------------
did you not see charlie Adam's pass again west brom, unreal! meireles truggles to pass it in a straight line, no pace on his passes slows down the play, scored a few goals so people think he is amazing! when realistically he is average with fitness issues

24 Jun 2011 12:09:02
The only reason Meireles is being sold, is he is the only player you have from your deadwood that other clubs want to buy, the rest you will be stuck with, and there wage bills.

Charlie adam is not good enough for liverpool he had a good season at blackpool where he stood out like craig belleamy (spelling) when he was at blackburn and we bought him he wern't good enough and was sold the next season, we need someone like alonso in midfeild with gerrard so they look as good as eachother and both players would be able to work with henderson the four man midfeild should me

Adam johnson, xabi, gerrard, mata

bellievable - agree unbellievable - disagree

THIS IS 100% TRUE

last night Charlie Adam was at a local hairdressers, salon 30 in freckelton a village near Blackpool where there was a charity evening in aid of Brian house childrens hospice , he was special guest along with his bird.

anyways he was asked by few of the lads what he was doing next season he said

he was in talks with Liverpool and they were favourites, but that there was noise united may come in last minute and snatch him

He would choose united first over anyone, but its looking more like Liverpool.

this is gospel

This is correct information. His first choices are LFC and MU. He wants to stay in the northwest due to his other half. He was in Feckleton last night I agree also he says this on his twitter page

was just thinking and laughing that how could malaga signed player like joaquine for 4 mill when we are tagged to sign mata 25 mill, henderson 20 mill, carroll 35 mill ! joaquine is as good maybe even better than those players.this is called tactics in transfer market.not the way camolli is doing it for us !!!
---------------------
He's in his 30's mate & not good enough anymore!
Lost pace now & in any case he may not cut it in the Premiership?!
He's priced at £4m for a reason i'm sure.
Besides, we have a NEW transfer policy now anyway lad - we are only looking to buy young, upcoming players with huge POTENTIAL & with good sell on value if the move doesn't work like with Suarez, Carroll & Henderson!
Do your homework before moaning maybe?
I have never come across so many moaners in my life!
Editors, how are you lot not suicidal from reading all this rubbish every single day??
I genuinely pity you guys & gals!!!

I heard King Kenny wants is more concerned at maybe giving Raheem Sterling playing time. He is very young as he is only 16. But that never stopped Michael Owen!!!
-----------------------

Age is only a number!
He's small, but so is Messi!
Not sayin he'll be that good & in any case if the LFC trainers want to bulk the lad up it'd only take about 4 or 6 months maximum of good weights sessions 3 - 4 days per week.
He'd be ready for January at the very latest!
Irish Kev.

the few things we must do!! KEEP raul maxi for another season at least and build

the few things we must not do!! pay the like of cole, jova aqualani ...100k per week is a joke (plz thats possibly the worst 20-30million ever spent when you consider how many times they play).

also if we brought in a player ie drogba eto for a couple of years id pay them 90k per week for goals alone
and i would also buy defenders that have experince just like ac milan do and not waste the fans money

{Ed009's Note - I see absolutely no reason why both players would not be bought for either side. Mata's dad liked what he saw during discussions with the club and Mata is not overly bothered by immediate Champions League football. If his first team status were assured by Comolli and Dalglish I feel he could move here. Turan is more likely though - provided we make a bid - as he is desperate for a move to LFC.}

But isn't Turan still recovering from injury?

On this site everyday reading the same names over and over your downing and adam and mata i only think that out of them 3 mata is good enough. downing is no where good enough for LFC and adam flopped towards the end of last season i mean they may prove me wrong but i would rather liverpool spend a bit more money for ever banega and adam johnson with mata also coming in!! that would strengthen the foward line and midfeild then we just have to concentrate on the defence if villa want 20 million for downing we could get johnson for less than that and is a better player your thoughts ed and what are the chances of banega and johson??

{Ed006's Note - Depending on Alexis Sanchez and Mata, Adam Johnson could be a possibility. Banega no chance in my opinion, Lucas is better. Charlie Adam did not flop towards the end of the season at all.}

24 Jun 2011 11:14:00
hi eds ! i think we are reacting too slow and stupidly in the market.just watch the ashley young, phil jones situations! you can't deny that we wanted them but we loose them ! it's a shame really that the players we mostly need as lb, wingers we didn't even see any movement but we signed a CM which we already have a lot ! also we are preparing a lot money to spend to bring average players like clichy or downing or henderson.now for this slowness and poor tactics we gonna loose more players.
just think wickham is now almost in sunderland radar, payet is very close to sign for lille, sissoko is very close to man city ! so what is camolli doing ?

we need to make certain world class targets in required positions and sign them asap.

for example,
lets sign sissoko or vargas as left back, mata or cazorla as left winger, jeffren or payet or turan as right winger.
that's our main position needs to be tweaked.

it's just a shame when i saw that players like young, jones, payet who are actually playing in smaller teams , we can't even compromise them and players like turan who are long life red supporter we are not even going for them !

24 Jun 2011 11:08:32
Liverpool have had bids accepted for downing and for wickham but are waiting til 1st July as they have been told by foreign club that they want even be talk fees until the window starts. They want barca to tell them how much they want for jeffren and valencia how much they want for mata. If jeffren is under 10 mil expect them to go for him. Due to a foreign player having to settle kenny is abit worried about paying big money then the player not settling for a year or so and lfc missing out on europe again. Makes sense to me.

24 Jun 2011 11:07:42
hey ed, i know this doesnt relate much to the transfers, but can i ask just ask how much do these players earn per week?

1. Torres (before he left)
2. Gerrard (I heard its 125k a week?)
3. Suarez
4. Andy Carroll
5. Kuyt
6. Meireles
7. Carragher
8. Agger
9. Glenn Johnson
10. Reina
11. Poulsen
12. Jovanovic
13. Joe Cole
14. Pacheco
15. Henderson maybe?

abit off topic towards transfers, but i just wanna see how the players are given wages. thanks. {Ed002's Note - I am not going to go there I am afraid.}

-------- They cleared their finances in one month during the summer? That's month during the summer? That's odd, didn't hear that they were bought from a millionaire or something. Valencia is in financia crisis and they need cash mmeDiately.
--------
This is not correct, currently valencias debt is around 38 m euros its been reduced over the course of three years by selling players and lowering the wage budget whilst also retaining champs league status. 3 years ago they were 120m in debt but through very good financial management they have reduced it to what the ditectors think is a manageable level.
They do not HAVE to sell but are very open to it.

They are looking for 24m euros from what I'm told, although my source is at madrid so it might be a guess but they are usually accurate. Why did people think he would be signed before the tournament? Silly it was obvious valencia would use the wc as a shop window.

Oh and Barcelona will get Sanchez and apart from Fabregas I don't see them making any other transfer, since their president clarified that their finances are in a mess. So no Mata for them. Ed. .Arda Turan, Gael Clichy and Jeffren Suarez are all interested in a move to liverpool but somehow there are some delays, Is it because KK has lost interest or are they(club)lining up a top signing?We bought Robbie Keane instead ov Luka Modric or Lennon, Now we'v bought Henderson 1st when we already have Gerrard, Maxi, Lucas, Meireles. .normally we could have bought A natural winger or a left back. .i am now confused. {Ed002's Note - The transfer system is not based on what a player wants. No doubt there are a bunch of players at Walsall who would like to play for Barcelona and Real Madrid - but there also appear to be "delays" in their moves.}

Dont know that much about Melo but hes a hard nose DM aint he? Something we need someone to break up the play... or are we happy with lucas? If we dont get the DMs we are chasing surely this is a deal worth looking at (depending on the cash value they are willing to add to the transfer of course)

Ed's whats your pov on melo, would he be a good addition to the starting 11? as part of the raul deal or not? {Ed001's Note - he is rubbish, he was voted the worst signing in the history of Serie A after his first season.}

Graham Hunter was on the Irish radio station Newstalk lastnight and he maintains that it will take a massive bid from any club to temp them to sell Mata as Valencia are no longer in the financial mess that they were in. He was sceptical about wether or not Liverpool would be willing to spend that kind of money on a player who may not be fresh enough to adapt to the physical demands of the English Premiership as he has spent the last two summers playing competitive football with little or no rest. Hunter rates Mata very very highly.

Not a rumour, but can someone please explain to me why kenny is thinking of letting meireles go. He was one of our best players last season and he was in the small group that actually gave a crap about what happened.

Its just rumours at present but if you have seen games last season he does pull out of challenges which means he cant play central midfield and with the hope of getting some wingers in Id see him having to settle for a place on the bench.

Not a rumour, but can someone please explain to me why kenny is thinking of letting meireles go. He was one of our best players last season and he was in the small group that actually gave a crap about what happened.

Hey Ed, what are the chances out of 10 for these players to sign:

Juan Mata
Stewart Downing
Dimitri Payet
Charlie Adam
Gael Clichy
Scott Dann
Connor Wickham
Arda Turan
Marc Albrighton ? {Ed009's Note - 4, 6, 4, 7, 2, 4, 5, 4, 1.}

And now for the realistic marks out of 10

Mata 1
Downing 9
Payet 5
Adam 9
Clichy 2
Dann 6
Wickham 9
Turan 0
Albrighton 0

Don't people get it yet? Liverpool are concentrating on bringing in British players. If fees can be negotiated Downing, Adam and Wickham will be signed. Villa will not contemplate selling Albrighton after losing Downing and Young. It is very unlikely that Arsenal will sell Clichy to us. Certainly not for 5 million. Payet is a possibility if the Downing deal falls through. As for Mata and Turan I have never read of any interest in either outside of these pages. Mata is obviously a gifted player but a lot of clubs will be chasing him. He is only young and will probably stay one more season with Valencia. Turan is not even on the radar.

hi ED
Is it possible that we arent really going to reinforce that much, because in my view we still have a stable squad it was just bad managment that cost us. Meireles should also stay

****WANTED URGENTLY****

Alex Ferguson's obsession with Liverpool continues!! United urgently need Liverpool fans to create an atmosphere as the "stretford end" is quieter than a library. Apparently Fergie is tired of hearing the same old song (glory glory man united) and is looking for a real atmosphere and many new songs.

To Apply: Send your version of "You'll never walk alone" direct to fergie so he can satisfy his obsession.

Yeah Kenny should h**k the scouting team and watch youtube clips of footballers all day long. Whilst he's at it he should use FM1 to judge if a player is good enough and sign anyone who went inform on fifa UT who's stat are above average
----------
While I'm not trying to say anybody should go off the ratings on on football manager but you do know they they input their player ratings based on national scout reports don't you? So while they are not 100percent accurate they are prob about 60%.
Did you think they just make up random numbers?

I watched some videos of Raheem Sterling. He is full of talent. Do belive he getting some chances in upcoming season at the age of 16. Ed1, what is the crack re Charlie Adam?I know you must get pissed at answering questions on him but just got a link to one of them sites like goal.com or one of those saying his arrival is imminent more or less.Any news on this at all?Also was it Owen Oysten's stint behind bars why he's left his t**t of a son in charge or do you think the younger Oyston is just a puppet for his old man.I think Oyston is still pissed off at looking the biggest muppet of the season when although chairman of Blackpool Fc he had to sit with the fans with his kids with a face like a donkey's asse.Foreign owners had some friends over and he had to swallow his medicine then, you think if Liverpool offer to pay it all at once that he'd tell him to pick up the phone. Ed1, would any imposter post be picked up now, seeing what happened to Jonny Boy sayin he was going to post under another name.Wouldn't want it to happen to me.Preston Red {Ed002's Note - We do what we can to capture imposter posts and those doing it can be banned of course. However, we can never pick up them all and we all need to just drop it and move on. However, and this should be taken as a serious warning, folks who repeatedly bring the matter up and refuse to drop the subject now also get banned.}

Hi guys, I wrote a post last night stating that I was worried we were losing momentum in the transfer market and that the end of season excitement for me had waned. However, I am a little more upbeat after being informed that Dalglish has spoken to McCleish today again regarding Downing, a fee is close to being agreed. Also a tip off that Cole may be going to Villa Park, this would be a great move if true.
-----------------------------------------------------
When did managers start talking to each other about transfer dealings. its nothing to do with Mcleish {Ed002's Note - Managers talk to each other all the time about transfers, but as you suggest the mechanics of any transfer usually does not include the manager himself.}

TEAM LAMELA, i think your best wishes may come true soon if Plate get relegated, they are 2 nil down after the first leg of their relegation playoff, i would love to see liverpool move for him if they go down, hopefully no one else does either so his price drops.

Rebel_Red {Ed001's Note - it makes very little difference to him financially, except that holding on to him might get Blackpool promotion him might get Blackpool promotion at the end of the season. Maybe at the end of the season. Maybe Holloway will be able to convince Oyston that holding onto an unhappy player is not worthwhile and will upset the team. Though Oyston seems to be intent on upsetting the whole squad so it might be difficult to get rid of every one who is unhappy.} Oyston seems to be intent on Oyston seems to be intent on upsetting the whole squad so it might be difficult to get rid of every one who is unhappy.} upsetting the whole squad so it might be difficult to get rid of every might be difficult to get rid of every one who is unhappy.}
----------
I never said he was being stopped from working I said his freedom to work is being restricted. Him asking for a transfer request is tantamount to handing in your notice. Should oysten refusr then he is forcing adam to stay in a job that he has stated he is unhappy with. This is the reason why teams have to sell a player if they hand in a request, because its against EU lae not too. Might restrict his human rights aswell as I believe there is an article in the international bill of human rights regarding his freedom of movement.

In addition to this oysten obviosly knows very little about football psychology as having a player who does not want to be there will hamper his performances and disrupt the squad.

Hey Ed, is it true that Juan Mata's agent(Mata Sr.) is pushing for his son to come to Liverpool?

ALso, if it were between Turan and Mata, who would you prefer? Personally, i say Turan... although either player is a winning situation for the club! {Ed009's Note - I see absolutely no reason why both players would not be bought for either side. Mata's dad liked what he saw during discussions with the club and Mata is not overly bothered by immediate Champions League football. If his first team status were assured by Comolli and Dalglish I feel he could move here. Turan is more likely though - provided we make a bid - as he is desperate for a move to LFC.}

Morning Ed's

I read the site at least twice a day and "love it" as Keegan would say. I have a question for you "do you think that some of our fans on here need anti depressants?, The transfer Window has been open three weeks or so, The international window does not open until july 1st, We have been linked with a lot of players who would work well in the system KK wants to play, lets face it , All you Ed's, Me, cameron, Barack Obama or even psychic sally cannot tell us who we have lined up only KK and DC know for sure. Its time people stopped second guessing and have some patience we may all be surprised who actually does come in, Who would have imagined we would go for Henderson.Never judge a book by its cover as the saying goes a prime example of this Luis Garcia and before all you people start Yes it works the other way to, but I for one trust KK and his ability to spot and nurture talent

REDFORLIFE {Ed009's Note - I think people are too quick to jump to conclusions and worry. We've made more progress so far in the transfer window than Chelsea, Arsenal or even City. If it wasn't for Oyston's histrionics we would have signed Adam too. They also need to wait until the international transfer window opens.}

24 Jun 2011 06:06:56
because of Ashley young going to man united Antonio Valencia wants to move with aston villa his preferred option.This means that villa might let us have downing
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Connor wickham and Arda turan to sign for liverpool in next 72 hours!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
jay bothroyd also expected to sign!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Eds if we need to sign a top class striker realistically who should it be and why? {Ed009's Note - I don't personally believe that a striker who is already fully developed and 'top class' is as necessary as other positions, but I feel that if we were to sign one, Benzema for 22 million would be a very good signing, as he's the type of striker we're missing - a 20 goal a season poacher.}

24 Jun 2011 05:43:32
Eds, do you think K.K is getting rid of Merieles, do any of you think its his way of ridding all the players Woy brought in.Joe Cole and Paul Konchesky are trying to be off loaded as well.I know some of the players leaving are one's that Rafa brought in like Jova and Aqualani are almost certain to leave as well.Personally i think he wants a team with his own stamp on it and Raul M being the last signing of Woy.I think getting rid of him is more symbolc then people think.Especially as he as good a season as any Liverpool player, imo.Not spectacular but defo good enough for another season at least.I bet he cant belive we've more or less transfer listed him.Not great tackler we all know that but he's only on a pittance compared to some s**tty Prem players like Marveax on 60k.A good player, seems popular with his teammates and most fans inc me.And are we looking at Jeffren with a view to bid for him when the u21's is over. Jonson6

For the record, Jovanovic doesn't earn £120kweek. He earns £60kweek.
He was paid £120kweek for the first 12 months as he received a £3m signing on fee that was spread over the first year of his contract. Had this not already been paid this, it would have to be settled in full if we sold him anyway.

24 Jun 2011 02:18:51
Ed1, do you think Vargas would be an option for the left hand side full stop, with his ability to play almost anywhere, he's always gonna have a role to play no matter what formation we play.Heard, well read that his club would let him go for a min of 15mil euro, i know he'd end up costing a wee bit more then that but i defo would love to see him at Liverpool.Jonson6 {Ed001's Note - yes I do. I believe he was being looked at because he could play on the wing as well as at full back. It is always useful to have that flexibility from your players when you have limited squad numbers.}

The issue we have hear is Comolli......he is all out for French players!! The National team is rubbish, there leagues are rubbish, therefore there players are....yes you can guess!! This reminds me of when we had Houllier, Diao, Chevrou etc. Please Kenny get your back up now. Young has gone and strengthened our rivals...we missed a trick there and should have gone in 20 mil for him at the start, signed and seeled. Mata won't come to Liverpool, he will wait for a Champions league team for sure, therfore Downing is our only sensible option, wants to come so get him. He is versitile across the midfield, can score goals, is an international and has a trick or too + he is proven. I am dissappointed this year so far!!!

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

So a weaker league and a national team that is underperforming means that there is not one single decent player in the country?

If Berbatov is surplus to requirements at manutd then i realy think Kenny should be pulling out all the stops to ensure he makes the move down the M62, Best player I have ever seen live and the perfect foil for Suarez, people that aint got a clue about football (manutd fans) think he is lazy...... so was Bergkamp, Cantona, Zola, Romario, The list is endless, if you can read and understand the game then you don't have to run around looking like a fool for 90 minutes. {Ed001's Note - hahahaha sorry but that is the funniest post ever thank you!}

Liverpool FC look set to miss out on Stewart Downing with the England winger looking to either join Arsenal or remain at Aston Villa. The sale of Ashley Young to Manchester United has made keeping Downing all the more urgent for Alex McLeish but the player himself see s no reason to join another side not in European competition.

Liverpool FC realise this and will now focus their full attention on 24 year old Saint Etienne winger Dimitri Payet with whom the Anfield club are on the verge of sealing for around 15m. The France international has been with the Ligue 1 side since 2007 after spending two years with Nantes and reports claim the young Frenchman is ready for a new challenge.

24 Jun 2011 01:09:02
Wolfsburg playmaker Diego is under more pressure at the Bundesliga club amidst another walk out during the sides last game of the season against Hoffenheim.

The 26 year old stormed out of the clubs hotel when discovering he would not be making the team on the final day of the season and the German newspapers report that he will be fined close to half a million pounds. Whilst the player is unsure of any repercussions following his walk out, it is not the first time that Diego has been in trouble at the club.

Whilst under Steve McClaren the attack minded midfielder took the ball off the designated penalty taker but failed to put the ball away, his punishment then was yet another fine. His time is looking to be nearing an end and since his move to Juventus in 2009, Diego has seemed somewhat unlucky.

During his time at Werder Bremen the Brazilian was in huge demand and although his form has gone of late, they say class is permanent. For Liverpool and Arsenal though this represents an opportunity to purchase a top quality play maker for very little. His issues in the Bundesliga will mean a big drop in value and any team looking for a bargain could expect the 26 year old to join them for little more that £8m.

to the guy who said that O'Shea was an LFC fan growing up... absolute rubbish.... he was born in Ashton under Lyne where I have worked for over 15 yrs , I have met him, nice bloke and he is a Utd fan, hence he is happy playing bit part at Old T and is unlikely to move to the nemesis.!!

can you tell me why mata would want to join up with other big clubs looking him who can offer him champions league, even the uefa, what can we offer him when the team is in transition, tough player like thats why i think downing, enrique are the players we will get, they might not be the best but they are far better than what we have.

i dont think anyone really knows what any player is thinking!! you dont know that he wont join lfc, he might. maybe he will go for the challenge and eventual reward, rather than go to barca and have the possibility of not starting!!

I for one hope it is not true. Yes he s a good player, but it is all about money for Di Maria. We want people to play for the shirt, not because we offer ridiculous wages. I because we offer ridiculous wages. I also can't see Di Maria 'digging in on a cold, wet January night, where as those who play for the shirt will as those who play for the shirt will undoubtably do so. Get Turan in as his commitment to LFC is well publicised! undoubtably do so. Get Turan in as his commitment to LFC is wel publicised! Bobby F
----------
You would be surprised by di marias work ethic. One of the main reasons mourinho likes him is his running and willingness to work for the team. We aren't signing him, he's well liked at madrid. In regards to money he is only asking for what was promised, when he signed he was promised they would re-negotiate his contract if he had a good first year.

why doesn't adam hand in a transfer request? If he does this then he would have no choice but to sell since eu law states that you cannot restrict a persons freedom to work where they please. I know adam would forfeit any loyalty bonus but he's gonna be well paid at lfc anyway

Mr E {Ed001's Note - that's not strictly true, there is more to it than that, I really can't say any more, but there is a lot more to this than there seems.}

Have some of you gone mad? Why the hell would any of you want Nani? He's a gifted player but a truly horrible sportsman. He dives, constantly moans, he's lazy and damn arrogant. He's certainly not want Kenny would want thank heavens.

I suppose it sums up a lot of modern young supporters. All about style, flicks and flair without understating about pride, passion and commitment. I'm sure the same Nani cheerleaders slag off Lucas and Kuyt, despite there effort to the cause. Just look at Suarez the perfect footballer all passion, great flair but he uses it when required not to act as a show pony.

We'll sign four or five more players not all of you will be happy but I trust Kenny and Clarke to lead us back into the Champions league where we belong.

Charlie Adam News: A family friend who's an everton fan is formally of the Blackpool backroom staff keeps in touch with the club's groundsman and he has apparently told him that his move to Liverpool is most definately in the bag as personal terms and such have been agreed only the fee hasn't as Oyston is being an ignorant d**khead.

Hi ed's, I live in Blackpool and share friends with Charlie Adams and I can tell you Liverpool is his third choice (thank god) Manchester United is the club he supports and spurs is his fianc s favoured destination. We don't need him he ain't good enough for the mighty reds let the dirty reds or spurs have him.
==============================================================
Well ask your mate how to spell his name it's Adam not "Adams"

Just got the news from a source in Sevilla, Spain that we are linked with winger Jesus Navas, hes quality and Sevilla are letting him go at 25 euros

Wow, seems like scoop of the millenium to me. Heck, for 25 euros, I'd even pack his bags :-)

Hold on, my Sunday morning team are set to bid 30 euros ... sorry LFC

everyone is it me or do we think that ince is going to get some game time next season? isn't his contract up? or are we negotiating to keep him and if so that means he is in kenny's plans.

Hi Eds, or in fact any others who may have the answer to this question...
Does anyone know what is currently happening with insua? I always thought he had potential, and whilst he currently isn't as good as clichy, enrique and the rest, surely he has the potential to become their equal given time, or perhaps I'm missing something, does he have a bad attitude, poor training ethic, etc?
It just seems odd to me that he's totally forgotten.

Have been thinking exactly the same thing mate. I really thought that he was coming along well as a left back just before we went him off on loan.
That said however, he still wasn't up to the standard of LFC, especially defensively and as supporters we don't get to see him off the pitch, training etc as you mentioned.
I think he will be sold this summer but thats purely my thoughts. Would be great if anyone can shed some light on his situation.
Dan (Please post in rumours Eds, thanks)

Oyston isn't being an ignorant dickhead....he's holding out for the best cash deal he can get. Like any businessman. Stop thinking we have the right to buy anyone. If some team was trying to buy our star player you'd be proud that Henry was ignoring offers. {Ed001's Note - no he is not. If he was doing that he wouldn't be putting the phone down on people trying to ask Adam's price. Nor would he refuse to take calls on the subject afterwards. He is a childish little brat who is still trying to punish Adam for taking him to court for his bonus. That is why he refused to sell him in January, despite promising to do so.}

I keep hearing we, re close to agreeing a deal for Downing for £19m, it, s puts a shiver down my spine when i hear that fee, please kk don, t pay that. Every Villa fan will be laughing there socks off. My Villa mate who likes Downing said we, d snap your hand off for that much, then they will go for N, Zogbia for £10m and still have £9m change towards other targets, like Charlie Adam. Do you think we, ll pay it people?

Arda Turan to liverpool.He wants to play for us, we need a player for that position and for £10-£13 million it seems like a good bit of business.

perfect in 433
-----------andy
arda*------------------luis
-----gerrard----lucas
-----------gago*
clichy*-agger-lovren*-johnson

not my preference but cheap option with prem xp. and taking note that we have aurelio & johnson for that role.

thats a starting line up worthy of the liverpool chrest. and that 4 signings cost
13, 12, 6, 4m around 35m.

thats how simple it is. 4 players that would come to liverpool, 4 players that liverpool fans would want bar(clichy), 4 players that are all 25 and under. this squad with a 2-3 more signings in the future could see us through until our starlets are physically capable to play for the first team.

I'm a life long Liverpool supporter from Australia and it makes me sick to read about some of the players we are linked with. While we are supposedly tryin' to buy players like Downing, Adam & Roux, teams like scum united, chelsea, arsenal and man city are buying expensive but quality players. By doing this we will never make ground on them. We should be buying players like Sanchez, Pastore & Mata coz we actually need them!
-----------------------------------------------------------
We won't buy players like Pastore and Sanchez, they only want to play CL football and that is something we are not doing. We could maby get players like Mata, Arda Turan, Payet and that type of players. Liverpool's main target for next season is ending in top 4 then we can buy players like Pastore and Sanchez.

Man utd now target Mata after getting Young. Whats going on here? Are Man utd going to try sign every player LFC target.
You would think they would be satisified after signing Young.

no......... there simply shi**ing themselves, anyway makes a change from tottenham - and who would be satisfied with young - most of their fans are not happy - talking about sanchez signing and along comes young = some comedown i would say -but thank god they got him

I read somewhere the other day about the cuts people get in the sale of Adam and it made me doubt whether we would get him this summer...here it is in full why I dont think we will see him at Anfield this year...

He would sell for around £12m but around 50% or possibly more as some would go to the owner who is entitled to 30% and Rangers 15%, not sure on Holloway or Adam himself who also get a cut.

So that leaves a potential under-estimate of £6m for the club to re-invest, the supporters would expect a replacement signing of around £4-5million.

So in effect the club only make £1million profit on the overall transfer whilst swapping their best player for one which isn't quite as good...possibly jeopardising their chances of getting back into the premier league.

So do they take £1m? or do they gamble for the £40m a season being in the premiership is worth?

I know what I'd do. {Ed001's Note - plus a new signing would want much better wages as well, so they would actually not get £1m even. Then it must be remembered that Oyston is a snake and is still having a girly tantrum about Charlie taking him to court last summer.}
