I know it's not related but purely as a football matter, fair play to the Derby players for their dignity and class staying on the pitch to congratulate Qpr (who have a higher wage big than athletico Madrid) after the result.

Furthermore steve mclaren, demonised by the media who gradiently perpetuated incompetence through biased reporting has once again proved himself to be capable at the job. Well done that man.

I think McLaren is a very good premier league standard manager. Today Derby played some great football at times and were the better side, even prior to the sending off. I really felt for their fans when Zamora scored but Derby should've been 2 up by then anyway.

McLaren has found his level. He's not good enough to manage England though.

You need someone like that in most teams, ian rush had it, Gary lineker etc. 6 yard poachers read the game well and are where it matters when the ball comes across.

He was playing injured so lay off the lad. But IMO, he`s not good enough to replace either of the SAS.

Even though I don't get why Home fans been psoting so much during the chams league and it's all a bit random.Benzema is a terrible player. He doesn't look up enough, makes runs into the completely wrong space, doesn't create room for the player with the ball, has zero work ethic, doesn't close down up the field. He's certainly nothing like Rush.

Hi Redmen,

Just watching CL Final and excites me thinking we will be CL next season. Wondering if we will be able to roll so called quality teams aside we did Arsenal, Spurs, MU etc etc. Do we think we will come across more tactically astute teams such as Chelsea? Be good to hear your opinions.

Its a shame Hodzic looks like a good player, but to be honest its probably a better move for his career.

talking about young strikers, I really hope Yesil can shake his injuries off and be apart of the first team next season. but it won't be easy as we have SAS, Borini coming back and are apparently considering Remy on top of those we have.

Its just been reported that Caulkers agent has been looking at houses in Liverpool on behalf of his client and a fee has been agreed with the 2 clubs leaving just personel terms to be finalised.

Any truth Ed?

It's on the official Cardif city forum, with Cardiff fans replying to the news feed asking about how much they will get for him and that they owe Spurs 50% of any fee they get for him?

I'm just posting what I've seen on there that is clear for everyone to see. I thought our main focus was Lovren and any other post about Caulker has been dismissed as we have no interest and he's nt good enough etc.

Hi Ed's,

If a player undergoes a medical and signs for another club outside the transfer window (an example would be Luiz) then injures himself in the world cup which is before the transfer window does the transfer still go through or is this normally part of the contract between the two clubs?

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea and PSG have agreed the transfer of David Luiz subject to the player passing a medical and reaching agreement on personal terms. The transfer cannot be processed until July 1 but, critically, the player will at all times be insured by one club or the other and if he were to be seriously injured the clubs would need to discuss matters. There might well be a caveat to the agreement, I don't know.}

Thanks Ed's - a serious injury could cause massive FFP issues if you were expecting to receive that money and made outlays to cover the player and improve the squad.

Interesting result on yersterdays poll -

Yes - 43% No - 57%

I am surprised a large number of folks think Carra would have done a better job than Skrtel if he had stayed on. It wasn't long ago when people were begging Carra to retire!

He was an excellent defender, but IMO, he would have found it very difficult to even make it to the match day squad if he had stayed on for another year.

My view is that he wouldn't have made every game; however in some of the games when we were shipping lots of goals or sloppy goals then his leadership would have helped.

Also the way we played last season with Gerrard splitting the defenders I don't think there would've been as much pressure on him having to play a long ball which used to be a bit hit and miss IMO.

Maybe it was just me being a bit romantic. He deserves a league medel just as much as Gerrard, if not more.
Maybe if he was available as well as skrtle we might have won it.

I have to disagree. If we cast our mind back to last season when Carra came into the team on a more permanent basis (from Jan on?). It was then that we put a great run of results together with the back 4 having a major impact. He would have made a big difference I think.

I didn't vote because I didn't think it wasn't a question I liked. Saying yes wouldn't have been right, imo, as Carra one year older and one year slower wouldn't have helped. Saying no wouldn't feel right as I think Skrtel was a calamity at the back.

Superb at losing men at corners - that's great when attacking but not when he's defending. And usually the only times he doesn't lose his man defensively at corners he's most likely ripping the shirt off the attacker. Punching the ball in injury time was stupid as well. Running out to cover midfield and leaving his striker alone in the box - he's not a top level defender, imo.

It wasn't long ago when many people on here were slagging off both players, then praising them, then slagging them, then praising them, then slagging them etc etc. A fit Agger and Skrtle would have won Liverpool the league.

I know someone has already mentioned the seven players we released yesterday in the official Premier League retained list, we have also transferred Armin Hodzic to Dinamo Zagreb due to work permit issues and, of course, Cissokho and Moses have returned to their parent clubs .

I would take Ashley Cole .The best british left back I have seen.His performances at the end of the season proved he can still defend well.Brad Smith could learn a lot from him while being his understudy. I would offer him a deal

Lampard has been offered a 1 year extension on his deal. With David Luiz leaving, he will likely stay.

I wouldn't break our wage structure to sign Ashley Cole. We offer good wages to those who have earned them - including large performance related bonuses. Bringing in Cole for a season or 2 on mega bucks wouldn't sit right.

Thanks Ed002 for answering my Rafinha question so quickly appreciated! I heard a rumour that lahm was going back to his normal postion due to a few players unhappy at the approach Pep was taking which ment Rafinha might become available!

My last question is why are we pursing Can when we can get Medal for exactly the same price? Is Rodgers/Committee falling in to the same trap as last year spending millions on kids to send out on loan? Personally I wouldn't move for a DM unless there is an offer on the table for Lucas which has forced our hand?

To start off, I have not really seen Can play so commenting on his style is impossible. But if I look at the way Rodgers has our team set up to play now, one of the things is SG’s range of passing. He has been able to turn defence into attack quickly by utilising the pace of our front men, and this has often meant his long diagonal balls restricting the runs forward of the opposition full backs, and therefore relieving some of the pressure on ours, who according to many on here are a weak point in our team. If I remember correctly, I believe this was pointed out by Ed01 a long time ago.
Although I rate Lucas extremely high as a DM I have not seen anything to suggest he has that passing game in his armoury, there may also be a question about pace after his injuries, especially in this quicker more open style Rodgers has been playing ( SG if were all honest is not as quick as he was, and especially late on in games ). Joe Allen is not that type of player, and whilst Henderson may turn out to be the future in that role, his energy further up the pitch seems more important right now.
Given Lucas’s age and the fact that it is looking difficult to fit him into the first team, the sensible answer is to look for someone younger that can play the type of style you want in that position, who will get games without upsetting the shape and balance of the team, and be a long term successor. If Lucas stays as well as another player coming in then great, but will he be happy with limited game time? Of course new full backs, a couple of different faces ahead of them and there could be a rethink in the formation and team set up, a Yaya Toure type player and a commanding back four could put that Gerrard position under threat.

I like Lucas too, but I agree that if Emre Can comes in, we may need to let go of Lucas.

U have a very good point RNred. If Can does come in, I believe Lucas could well be leaving. Like Stevie G, one of Can's main attributes is his impressive passing ability, which sadly Lucas does not possess. Hence Gerrard will be first choice CDM next season with Can as his eventual successor.

So buying an attacking midfielder to play in front of our back 4 would put Gerrard's position in the side under threat?

I saw the bit on medel on motd months ago, but has he really been that good since?

I know nothing about who we are chasing and even less about how to run a multi million pound business, but I hope that BR and the players are supported by the 'transfer team' this summer. The World Cup will stretch a few tired limbs and there is no doubt that our (first team) squad needs to be added to in preparation for another crack at the title, not to mention the Champions League.
I hope that the money men put their trust in BR and don't haggle over a couple of million when it comes to nailing transfer targets. This season has shown that playing exciting football brings financial reward so let's hope that, while not getting silly about it, we can see the bigger picture when it comes to, say, getting targets like Lallana into Anfield before they get snapped up by others. Next season could be great as we have some amazing players but they need support and we are going to need a good transfer window.

The "Transfer Team" identities and puts a value on the targets, they are not the ones making the money available. The owners have been supportive financially since they walked in.

Are there any teams interested in any of our players (not Suarez) that we would be unlikely to sell; say Henderson, Sturridge or Sterling etc.?

Also I remember reading somewhere that Brendan wanted the pitches changing so the ball moves quicker accross the ground (how that is possible if possible at all is beyond me and no need for explanations) do you know if that is correct or just a Brendanism?
