Where did Xabi get that pace from, I have never seen him run so fast as when the whistle blew.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It`s called the Thrill Of Victory.

Made up for Real. Regardless of the money that they have spent it has taken them long enough to get number 10. Shame they won't be able to defend it next #6Times

Ed, does Derbys failure to get promoted affect Will Hughes availability or price? Assuming we still hold interest.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I would think if anything it is in favour. Buy and loan back?}

24 May 2014 22:33:48
I can't help but feel so sorry for Atlético, they are a fantastic team and work incredibly hard for each other, but they just don't have that pace that Real do. Real deserved it, but then again, they have millions to spend on their 'Galacticos'. They are an institution that quite frankly sickens me, and I couldn't stand that Ronaldo strolling about with his top off, showing off his muscles.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't agree with the money real spend/have as debt; but Alteitico do play a bit anti football and look to foul and break up play.

So overall I was happy the better team won - that Varane looks an amazing player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Varane reminds me of Ilori, but not as quick.

Agree0 Disagree0

Teams have spent money for years trying to win the UCL and RM is no exception. N btw by spending that money, they`ve made other clubs richer over the years. All in all, they deserved to win over the course of the season and the game and we should accept it and move on.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that Atlético foul a lot, but so do Real (in particular Pepe and Ramos) and you can't say Atlético play 'anti-football'.

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought it was a good game. I do not understand why everyone hates Ronaldo, yes he comes across as arrogant but I think he is a great role model due to his hard work over the course of his career and also how he often gives money to varying charities.
Atletico defended brilliantly and it was a shame to see them lose. I enjoyed watching Real though, and agreed Varane looks fantastic. Angel Di Maria is so underrated, he was fantastic. Relentless running at the fullbacks was too much to handle in the end.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 22:33:17
Feel gutted for athletico there. Real deserved it yeah but was really rooting for athletico.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

24 May 2014 22:54:44
Athletico would loose much of their star players in summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Ancelotti is a great man and a great manager no antics, no psychological warfare. He's a humble respectful manager who deserves success. Well done Carlo.

Cosmologically speaking I think the world changes courses in less than 3 minutes.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No he doesn't have a cat ;o)

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 20:40:02
I know it's not related but purely as a football matter, fair play to the Derby players for their dignity and class staying on the pitch to congratulate Qpr (who have a higher wage big than athletico Madrid) after the result.

Furthermore steve mclaren, demonised by the media who gradiently perpetuated incompetence through biased reporting has once again proved himself to be capable at the job. Well done that man.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think McLaren is a very good premier league standard manager. Today Derby played some great football at times and were the better side, even prior to the sending off. I really felt for their fans when Zamora scored but Derby should've been 2 up by then anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

McLaren has found his level. He's not good enough to manage England though.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 20:37:11
". Athletico Scores.
And probably in 45 mts.
Carlo Anchelotti would be sacked
Real would come with 100 mill for Suarez.
Benzema would be off.

All Possible If the scorelines remains same. "

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Score line stays the same, Suarez decides he doesn't want to play for the third best team in Spanish football or champs league losers? All possible

Agree0 Disagree0

Ever the optimist eh.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 20:32:14
Which club would pay 40 mill for Benzema?. In fact Y?. He is poor. Very average. tap ins specialist. "

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You need someone like that in most teams, ian rush had it, Gary lineker etc. 6 yard poachers read the game well and are where it matters when the ball comes across.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe coming back off of an injury doesn't help - opps excuse me just realised which page I was on - there's only one type of performance we expect from our players

Agree0 Disagree0

He was playing injured so lay off the lad. But IMO, he`s not good enough to replace either of the SAS.

Agree0 Disagree0

Even though I don't get why Home fans been psoting so much during the chams league and it's all a bit random.Benzema is a terrible player. He doesn't look up enough, makes runs into the completely wrong space, doesn't create room for the player with the ball, has zero work ethic, doesn't close down up the field. He's certainly nothing like Rush.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 20:29:52
Real Madrid have been disappointing in the first half hopefully they will get in their stride and destroy Atletico in the second half.

Hi Redmen,

Just watching CL Final and excites me thinking we will be CL next season. Wondering if we will be able to roll so called quality teams aside we did Arsenal, Spurs, MU etc etc. Do we think we will come across more tactically astute teams such as Chelsea? Be good to hear your opinions.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Did arsenal not beat Liverpool twice last season!

Agree0 Disagree0

No afarid not they one at home at we trashed them at home similar scoreline we beat spurs by.

Agree0 Disagree0

Affraid yes, they beat you in the FA cup aswell

Ibe has just scored a hat trick for England, I think he will be bigger than Sterling given the chance, pace to burn, takes on and beats defenders, sets up others, this lad's got it in abundance!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Where? No England match on.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 19:11:27
He need another loan, Preferably to a PL side.

Agree0 Disagree0

It was for the u19s vs Montenegro. Ibe scored 3, Baker (Chelsea), Gallagher (Southampton) and Robinson (Aston Villa). Ended 6-0.

Agree0 Disagree0

England u19's ridiculous he's not in the 21's squad

Agree0 Disagree0

Why put down one of our players to bring another one up? Sterling has been fantastic. Ibe has the potential to be brilliant. Leave it as that

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd like both Sterling and Ibe to be a success in our team - both are capable of it.

Good afternoon Ed's and reds,

I am just curious as to how you guys run this site, is this something you do in your spare time or has it grown to that this is your full time job?

I really appreciate everything you do, it so addictive and I read everyday more or less.
Keep up the good work!

Nice one,

No surprises amongst the players released list:

Baio Yalany Cuino
Bijev Villyan
Mersin Yusuf
Ngoo Michael
Roddan Craig
Sama Stephen
Sokolik Jakub

Believable0 Unbelievable0

And Armin Hodzic has joined Dynamo Zagreb

Agree0 Disagree0

Its a shame Hodzic looks like a good player, but to be honest its probably a better move for his career.

talking about young strikers, I really hope Yesil can shake his injuries off and be apart of the first team next season. but it won't be easy as we have SAS, Borini coming back and are apparently considering Remy on top of those we have.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 16:29:19
Any chance of that Andre Wisdom lad? Looks a good player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He didn't do that well today, played a lot of safe 5 yard passes . QPR down to 10 men, Derby County should have went up another gear .

Agree0 Disagree0

My view of Wisdom is he is better off playing football on a regular basis; in a couple of years he may become the real deal but not there yet - that's not saying he's not a good footballer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Our best bet for right back lies with McLaughlin and Connor Randall. One of them two has to/will/should replace Johnson after next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 16:24:31

Whats your thoughts on it please?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Wasn't he one of the 18 players that this roaming Liverpool delegation have signed this week? They had him surrounded and were holding pens out last time I heard. He doesn't do crack by the way.

I have explained the situation, so I guess you must have missed some posts.}

Apparently this is what he said about the utd interest:
Konoplyanka: "Man United? I'd rather stay at Dnipro and play in the Champions League".

Emre Can will sign. Slightly questionable circumstances regarding Leverkusen's agreement with Bayern.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There are no questionable circumstances - both German clubs have made things clear.}

I'm eluding to the circumstances in which we seem to have been able to review his contract. which could lead to some serious trouble if we have.

Its just been reported that Caulkers agent has been looking at houses in Liverpool on behalf of his client and a fee has been agreed with the 2 clubs leaving just personel terms to be finalised.

Any truth Ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea where Caulker's agent is right now.}

It's on the official Cardif city forum, with Cardiff fans replying to the news feed asking about how much they will get for him and that they owe Spurs 50% of any fee they get for him?

I'm just posting what I've seen on there that is clear for everyone to see. I thought our main focus was Lovren and any other post about Caulker has been dismissed as we have no interest and he's nt good enough etc.

Puzzled red.

24 May 2014 11:17:03
hey Ed's, I was wondering if we bought lallana, does this mean we will sell or loan suso? I think that would be a terrible move.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Not necessarily - I don't think what happens with Suso will be directly influenced by Lallana but he will wish to discuss his future with the club regardless.}

24 May 2014 11:04:52
Hi Ed's,

If a player undergoes a medical and signs for another club outside the transfer window (an example would be Luiz) then injures himself in the world cup which is before the transfer window does the transfer still go through or is this normally part of the contract between the two clubs?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea and PSG have agreed the transfer of David Luiz subject to the player passing a medical and reaching agreement on personal terms. The transfer cannot be processed until July 1 but, critically, the player will at all times be insured by one club or the other and if he were to be seriously injured the clubs would need to discuss matters. There might well be a caveat to the agreement, I don't know.}

Thanks Ed's - a serious injury could cause massive FFP issues if you were expecting to receive that money and made outlays to cover the player and improve the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - This has nothing to do with FFP.}

Not LFC related but I just wanted to send my thoughts and wishes to Ali Carter who has just been diagnosed with Lung Cancer. How much more does this poor guy have to deal with after just recovering from Testicular Cancer and a long term sufferer of Crohn's Disease. Interesting result on yersterdays poll -

"Would Liverpool have won the league if Carra had played instead of Skrtel?"

Yes - 43% No - 57%

I am surprised a large number of folks think Carra would have done a better job than Skrtel if he had stayed on. It wasn't long ago when people were begging Carra to retire!

He was an excellent defender, but IMO, he would have found it very difficult to even make it to the match day squad if he had stayed on for another year.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

My view is that he wouldn't have made every game; however in some of the games when we were shipping lots of goals or sloppy goals then his leadership would have helped.

Also the way we played last season with Gerrard splitting the defenders I don't think there would've been as much pressure on him having to play a long ball which used to be a bit hit and miss IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe it was just me being a bit romantic. He deserves a league medel just as much as Gerrard, if not more.
Maybe if he was available as well as skrtle we might have won it.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to disagree. If we cast our mind back to last season when Carra came into the team on a more permanent basis (from Jan on?). It was then that we put a great run of results together with the back 4 having a major impact. He would have made a big difference I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

I didn't vote because I didn't think it wasn't a question I liked. Saying yes wouldn't have been right, imo, as Carra one year older and one year slower wouldn't have helped. Saying no wouldn't feel right as I think Skrtel was a calamity at the back.

Superb at losing men at corners - that's great when attacking but not when he's defending. And usually the only times he doesn't lose his man defensively at corners he's most likely ripping the shirt off the attacker. Punching the ball in injury time was stupid as well. Running out to cover midfield and leaving his striker alone in the box - he's not a top level defender, imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

It wasn't long ago when many people on here were slagging off both players, then praising them, then slagging them, then praising them, then slagging them etc etc. A fit Agger and Skrtle would have won Liverpool the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

Should we pursue Ashley Cole?
He is 33 years old and he does have a negative perception of him but he is also the best English left back of all time and still is. He can read the game better than most players and he times his tackles very well as well as possessing a decent cross. He knows when to overlap a winger and when to hold back for an easier option for team mates. I would sign him on a two year contract as long as his wages were under £100k which if Smith learned from him would be beneficial long term.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No. I like the player but the costs involved would be gigantic; to say keep him for 2 year.

For the same amount, we could get a very good LB and pay him for 5 years.

Agree0 Disagree0

Also, why would Cole reduce his wages to below 100K? Even then, he would probably ask for a very high singing on fee.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he's a great player and I would like to see him here, even if it is just a short term solution to our leftback problem.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes but I imagine the cost will be far too high for the club.
He will go to the highest bidder.

Agree0 Disagree0

The sign of a great player - hate him when he plays for someone else but would love to have him in your own team. Wages would be a problem for him, unfortunately.

Agree0 Disagree0

MLS it is then.
Good left backs:
Luke Shaw - Manchester United bound?
Fabio Coentrao - Inter bound?
Alberto Moreno - Real Madrid bound?
Jorge Sequira - Benfica bound?
I believe that we should sign Aaron Cresswell from Ipswich as he is vastly underrated and would adapt to the pace of the BPL immediately. He has been consistent performer for the last several years and was included in the Championship team of the season. If we could strike a deal by offering Jack Robinson and/or Connor Coady plus cash then Ipswich would not be in a position to refuse.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 14:16:37
What would Fabio do at Inter?

Inter have just been taken over and are looking to become top team in Italy and will be looking to spend this summer.

Eds I was looking at Bayer Leverkusen's team sheets from last year and would I be right in the thinking that Emre Can played a number of games at LEFT BACK?

I don't think anyone on the site has mentioned this (if they have, apologies) and this may be one reason we want him. BR by admission loves versatile players.

Thanks eds, take it easy.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - He has indeed played left back as cover.}

So exciting!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Emre Can plays a Central Midfield role usually but can play deeper in a holding role at LB.

Agree0 Disagree0

There should have been an "and" after "holding role" in my above post. Apologies.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe IF he was brought in we wouldn't still look to sign a left back e.g. bertrand, rojo?

I guess we'll see.

I know someone has already mentioned the seven players we released yesterday in the official Premier League retained list, we have also transferred Armin Hodzic to Dinamo Zagreb due to work permit issues and, of course, Cissokho and Moses have returned to their parent clubs .

So, ten have left so far with a few more to follow probably . Some more interesting names who are now officially without a club :-

John Arne Riise Damien Duff
Niclas Bentdner John Heitinga
Marc Albrighton Gareth Barry
Ashley Cole Joleon Lescott
Samuel Fils E'to Rio Gavin Ferdinand
Frank James Lampard David N'Gog
Marouane Chamake Joseph John Cole

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I wouldn't take any of them

Agree0 Disagree0

You missed out George McCartney.
If we sign him along with Neil Lennon then we could start reforming the Beatles.

Sorry couldn't resist that one

Agree0 Disagree0

Neither would I!

Agree0 Disagree0

I would take Ashley Cole .The best british left back I have seen. His performances at the end of the season proved he can still defend well.Brad Smith could learn a lot from him while being his understudy. I would offer him a deal

Agree0 Disagree0

But jiminy given his wages signing on fee he would cost a significant amount

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I would take Cole for 2 years, but it is not feasible.

Lampard has been offered a 1 year extension on his deal. With David Luiz leaving, he will likely stay.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Lampard has left Chelsea.}

Woah! I did not know that.

Was he not offered a new deal?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He was offered a deal but for now he has been released - he still has the option to agree a deal and carry on at Chelsea. He also has other options on the table.}

I wouldn't break our wage structure to sign Ashley Cole. We offer good wages to those who have earned them - including large performance related bonuses. Bringing in Cole for a season or 2 on mega bucks wouldn't sit right.

Thanks Ed002 for answering my Rafinha question so quickly appreciated! I heard a rumour that lahm was going back to his normal postion due to a few players unhappy at the approach Pep was taking which ment Rafinha might become available!

My last question is why are we pursing Can when we can get Medal for exactly the same price? Is Rodgers/Committee falling in to the same trap as last year spending millions on kids to send out on loan? Personally I wouldn't move for a DM unless there is an offer on the table for Lucas which has forced our hand?

Cheers PDLFC

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I can't help with why Liverpool show an interest in one player but not another. If the club buy Cam it would not think it would be to send him on loan.}

To start off, I have not really seen Can play so commenting on his style is impossible. But if I look at the way Rodgers has our team set up to play now, one of the things is SG’s range of passing. He has been able to turn defence into attack quickly by utilising the pace of our front men, and this has often meant his long diagonal balls restricting the runs forward of the opposition full backs, and therefore relieving some of the pressure on ours, who according to many on here are a weak point in our team. If I remember correctly, I believe this was pointed out by Ed01 a long time ago.
Although I rate Lucas extremely high as a DM I have not seen anything to suggest he has that passing game in his armoury, there may also be a question about pace after his injuries, especially in this quicker more open style Rodgers has been playing ( SG if were all honest is not as quick as he was, and especially late on in games ). Joe Allen is not that type of player, and whilst Henderson may turn out to be the future in that role, his energy further up the pitch seems more important right now.
Given Lucas’s age and the fact that it is looking difficult to fit him into the first team, the sensible answer is to look for someone younger that can play the type of style you want in that position, who will get games without upsetting the shape and balance of the team, and be a long term successor. If Lucas stays as well as another player coming in then great, but will he be happy with limited game time? Of course new full backs, a couple of different faces ahead of them and there could be a rethink in the formation and team set up, a Yaya Toure type player and a commanding back four could put that Gerrard position under threat.

Agree0 Disagree0

I like Lucas too, but I agree that if Emre Can comes in, we may need to let go of Lucas.

Agree0 Disagree0

U have a very good point RNred. If Can does come in, I believe Lucas could well be leaving. Like Stevie G, one of Can's main attributes is his impressive passing ability, which sadly Lucas does not possess. Hence Gerrard will be first choice CDM next season with Can as his eventual successor.

Agree0 Disagree0

So buying an attacking midfielder to play in front of our back 4 would put Gerrard's position in the side under threat?

Agree0 Disagree0

I saw the bit on medel on motd months ago, but has he really been that good since?

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 07:57:25
hi!
can u tell me please why do we so after Emre Can, what's the point to sign a player that got a silly release close next year? its very risky in my opinion.its possible to cancel this close in a new contract?

Thank U! i'm a big fan of this site!

You do realize that if he transfers to LFC, the clause he had in his contract at Leverkusen wouldn't matter.

The clause where Bayern would be able to buy him back for a nominal fee would cease to exist if we buy Can, though I think we may need to pay a couple of million euros compensation to Bayern to strike of that clause or something of that sort.

I know nothing about who we are chasing and even less about how to run a multi million pound business, but I hope that BR and the players are supported by the 'transfer team' this summer. The World Cup will stretch a few tired limbs and there is no doubt that our (first team) squad needs to be added to in preparation for another crack at the title, not to mention the Champions League.
I hope that the money men put their trust in BR and don't haggle over a couple of million when it comes to nailing transfer targets. This season has shown that playing exciting football brings financial reward so let's hope that, while not getting silly about it, we can see the bigger picture when it comes to, say, getting targets like Lallana into Anfield before they get snapped up by others. Next season could be great as we have some amazing players but they need support and we are going to need a good transfer window.

The "Transfer Team" identities and puts a value on the targets, they are not the ones making the money available. The owners have been supportive financially since they walked in.

Hi Ed's,

Are there any teams interested in any of our players (not Suarez) that we would be unlikely to sell; say Henderson, Sturridge or Sterling etc.?

Also I remember reading somewhere that Brendan wanted the pitches changing so the ball moves quicker accross the ground (how that is possible if possible at all is beyond me and no need for explanations) do you know if that is correct or just a Brendanism?

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware any interest in them right now. My knowledge of grass does not extend to football pitches.}
