Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

When everyone says Liverpool have lost their attack this season.

After 8 BPL games we have scored 13 goals. The exact same amount we had scored after the same amount of games last year. And this is with the misfiring Balotelli upfront, with sturridge back upfront we will start to score more.

However this stage last year we had conceeded 7 compared to this years 12.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

There lies the problem, bro.

Anyway, there is a match to be won this weekend. A win will see us move into the top 4 (surprisingly enough). So it could be worse i guess. We are not hovering in mid table! Imagine what we could doif we find a bit of form? It might only take a few good games, a couple of clean sheets and a Mario brace to get us up and running. We all know what football is like!

Can you really see it happening Irish.i ve posted before that we are not in bad position thanks to most of our rivals not doing well either. The concern I have, I can't see that spark that will trigger good performances.

Agree0 Disagree0

But we have to believe it will happen as much as it doesn`t look likely, atm.

Agree1 Disagree0

I am always of the belief that football is 50% ability and 50% confidence. It is the same squad as last year bar 1. I hope it will happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

What's the point in not believing we will find a spark? It doesn't help the team and probably just makes you feel worse. a bit of blissful thinking never does any harm as our opinions have basically zilch effect on what happens anyway

I am going to stick up for Brendan Rodgers. Fans yet again are throwing in the towel and sulking again. He gave us hope last year and ok our form has dipped but last stand by him and support him. We are on the up with 7 out of 9 points in the league and can make it 10 out of 12 tomorrow. So let's wait and support the bloke.

Believable8 Unbelievable7

Spot on, Mighty! We have to stand by him BUT he has to show some ambition and willingness to accept the help that everyone including myself thinks he needs when it comes to tactics, defensive organization and especialyy transfers.

Good post mate.

Hello all,
This site is beyond depressing lately(much like our form).
I just wanted to say that although Big Ballo is massively annoying at the moment, I feel he is getting a bit of a hard time.
We were always going to struggle after losing Suarez. We need to stop expecting Balo to save the day.
I personally wouldn't drop him tomorrow as it's a bit like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
He is, unfortunately, probably the best striking option we have right now.

I'd personally like to see him partnered with Sterling tomorrow and see what happens.
I know he's been a bit crap, but I think blaming him for the teams inadequacies is a bit much.

Believable7 Unbelievable2

24 Oct 2014 20:53:02
I don't think anyone's under illusion about other areas of the team. Balotelli scoring a goal every time he touches the ball won't enable us to defend set pieces, make Jonno into a footballer again, and make Gerrard into as good a defensive midfielder as he is an attacking midfielder. And of course, any player can have a bad patch.

But Balo isn't helping himself by projecting the image of a man who does not give a fiddlers and is not willing to put any extra effort in to get over his bad patch. I think the annoyance and anger at him is justified.

Agree0 Disagree0

I didn't say he was the answer for all the teams inadequacies. All I said was we should get off his back a little. One man doesn't make a team, and personally I would like to see him do well because like it or not he is our main striker at the moment.

Every man and his dog knows that he's not performing particularly well on his own up front, so why not try him with someone else.

Agree0 Disagree0

You`re both right. Balo is not the reason we are leaking goals and have been for two yrs. That is BR`s problem to sort out. Everybody NEEDS to do their jobs. Balo has to do his job and try to score or play well and show the effort and attitude that proves he is capable of either scoring or assisting goals. BR has to do his job by for making a conscious effort to fix our defensive issues and agree to seek help in some areas where he is clearly deficient in communication, transfers, etc.). Until that happens, we continue to stuggle. I do agree that Balo should NOT be the scapegoat when we lose or draw because he gets NO credit either when we win.

Hi everyone, a couple of weeks ago
I posted about the LFC tv channel on the Virgin media XL package, well i just got an email from the LFC customer service team to my question regarding why i couldn't watch the youth games, the club have decided to start charging £7:00 subscription and it will be removed from the XL package from the 28th October, what will they charge for next? needless to say i will not be subscribing and i am starting to hate greedy English football.

Believable8 Unbelievable0

I know what you mean mate. A few years ago I subscribed to sky sports, then I had to add espn, then I downgraded to just ss1 and added BT due to the cost and this week I had to upgrade to the full sky sports package to get ss5. It's ridiculous mate and something needs to be done about it.

Oh and the first 2000 customers get a free remote control.joke would they not make enough from the endless ads that's on.

Agree2 Disagree0

24 Oct 2014 20:39:36
I don't subscribe to sky sports - refuse to pay the ransom.
I get BT Sports free, otherwise I wouldn't pay the ransom for that either.
It was nice being able to watch the league games in full a day or 2 later on LFCTV plus see a lot of the youth and U21 games.
Guess that's gone now (well. from 28/10/14)
Just like F1, Rugby, Cricket. . .the people who can't afford to have sky sports don't get to see it.
Hopefully there's a big change coming where it'll be like it is in Germany. £10.00 a ticket for a live game and discounted/free travel when you have that ticket.
They don't seem to have any trouble attracting/keeping top players and paying a decent wage either.

Agree1 Disagree0

Not sure about 'decent wage', but BVB's wage bill is less than half of ours, as an example.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am now seriously thinking of jibbing Virgin XL package as well, i'm tired of 20 minutes of adverts per hour and the endless repeats, some as old as the 60's ? Gunsmoke? watched that when i was a kid! i'm near 62 now? if the LFC channel goes then i will think about getting shut, i don't have Sky i would rather cut my wrists.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nevere fear reds. You can buy an android box from play.com for £65 you then get a fibre optics router and plug in. You will then get all LFC games whether 3 o clock finish or other time via NBCSN crystal clear.

All perfectly legal and above board.

Agree0 Disagree0

Got a link for this android box? Sounds worth a punt

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I got an android box and if you get a good lan cable you can watch any sporting event even all youth games if they're televised anywhere in the world and they're perfect quality of you have a good download spspeed

I think Balo should be dropped against hull If anything just to relieve the pressure, I really think he will come good playing in a 2 with Sturridge. Sturridge is a live wire always buzzing about the place, always giving the opposition something to think about and that will leave Balo with more space and time to do what he does best, score goals. No matter what anybody says he is goal scorer his record speaks for itself but he simply can't do it as a lone striker, so I don't think he should start again untill Sturridge is back. So tomorrow I would start with Lambert, I'll admit I'm not his biggest fan but he deserves his chance considering how bad Balo's been and if anything he will be able to help us out defensifly from corners and free kicks which are becoming increasingly worrying.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

His goal scoring record is really not all that great, no idea why people seem to think it is.

Agree2 Disagree0

What do you mean his record @inter it was 59(app) 20(goals)
City 54

Agree1 Disagree0

What do you mean record
59(20) 54(20) 43(26) mostly as a lone striker

Agree1 Disagree0

Take out the penalties and you may find it less impressive.

Serie A last season he scored 14, 7 of which were free kicks and penalties, leaving him with a pretty poor 7 from open play across the whole season.

At City, he had 30 in all competitions in 2.5 years. 8 were penalties, so 22 open play goals in 2.5 years.

Agree2 Disagree0

Just wondering why did we buy him ?

Agree0 Disagree0

If he gives between 10 to 15 this season, I`ll be chuffed to bits.

Agree2 Disagree0

I don't understand that if Balo is not a lone striker why is he playing as one? pair him with someone or change the attack!

Agree0 Disagree0

He will have to hit the goal first!

I don't for one second believe we have a bad group of players but the mix of them on the pitch at anyone time is debatable. Rather have a progressive sakho looking to make tackles and with enough pace to chase his man over lovren. Lucas running himself ragged and fouling everyone in sight rather than gerrard standing statuesque while qpr run rings around him etc. Scrappers and fighters with the right mix of finesse is required. I have never minded losing as long as you know the players gave everything, right now i don't get that impression and its frustrating and embarrassing. When i go to work and even have man u fans laughing at us that says it all. I won't even go i to brendan and his brain separatiom from his mouth syndrome. For petes sake lfc write him some press lines and get him off the stage. its embarrassing and getting worse.

Believable2 Unbelievable5

Aren't we above United?

Agree1 Disagree0

Yes, and MK Dons had fun with their defence too, scoring 4 past them without reply.

Agree0 Disagree0

But that's the point redhio, regardless of their own woes we are still providing ammunition for them to still feel self rightious. And why would they be laughing at me for not having comebacks which i do btw, that's a ridiculous statement red!!

Either way whatever i come back with does not paper over the tripe rodgers and the team are currently serving up.

Eds, you've rightly said that the committee was set up due to Brendan poor transfers. Now the committee have showed they are also very poor at transfers too and you have said they should be sacked.
What do you think should be the path forward regarding transfers if neither the manager nor the committee can be trusted?
Thanks.

Believable9 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - how about getting in a manager that can make decent transfers?}

Well said ED, well said.

Agree1 Disagree4

Ed001 who would you have replace him if he were to be sacked? Which does look increasingly likely unless things improve drastically. And I mean someone who would be willing come to our great club, and which the club could also afford. Sorry if you've answered this before.

YNWA.

Agree1 Disagree5

{Ed001's Note - off the top of my head, I don't know. Bielsa if he could be persuaded to take over, that would be my choice.}

24 Oct 2014 15:43:16
Ed01 Whose the one in your mind mate?

Agree0 Disagree1

Or get a manager who will work well with a DOF.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that would be a head coach then really.}

Thanks for the reply Ed001. I get the feeling that if the results don't go our way over the next three or four weeks then you and the other Ed's are going to be rather busy me thinks. Also if Macca is about somewhere does he have any info on what the owners think to our current form and our start to the season?

YNWA.

Agree1 Disagree1

Thanks Ed001, I didn't realise you were so far down the line of sacking the manager but I would agree, no defensive improvement last season now this season too says enough.

What do you think of Koeman so far at Southampton?

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - so far he is doing well, but his previous record is patchy to say the least.}

This is embarrassing. If I was an outside fan looking in I'd be laughing at the fickleness on here. It gives us all a bad name.

Red Rum

Agree6 Disagree5

You're spot on Red-Rum, you'd think we were bottom of the league reading some of the bilge on here.

I can honestly say that the Reds fans I see at work, Uni and go the match with would be equally embarassed at the level of fickleness on here.

If we win tomorrow we'll probably go top four, all this whilst bedding in players and playing without our main man up front.

Agree4 Disagree0

My preferred option would be Simeone or De Boer but I highly doubt either would move.

Ed001 if you are around, what is your opinion on Unai Emery? Seemed to do very well at Almeira and certainly overachieved at Valencia. Bit of a dodgy time in Russia but back doing very good things at Sevilla.

Do you think he could make it in England or is he more likely someone that just knows La Liga very well?

Cheers in advance

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - good question. He does seem to suit the Spanish league, the way he gets them to play, that seems to work out there. I am not convinced he could work well here, but he can work with a director of football, who could help him adapt.}

I don't really think it's fickle, the defensive issues where not addressed last window, he sold dagger and Kelly and left us with sako and toure the car crash, we have too many players who are too similar and the play is too one dimensional, Chelsea found us out last year and Rogers never learnt the lesson from that, his ego is now truly exceeding his ability, don't know what the answer is but he's spent a pile of money the club can ill afford on average players

Agree1 Disagree2

I think it premature to call for BR's head yet, but he will have to fix the obvious problems fast.

Rudi Garcia is an excellent young manager, someone who has experience of building something, sticking with that built team and then going to do very well with a more prominent team, all whilst playing attractive football, bringing through youngsters and also working with DoF's I think.

Agree1 Disagree1

So Ed01 and I are in agreement that a DOF is needed instead of this pathetic commitee that has done more harm than good.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure Ed001 agrees with you, but I do. Was hoping we'd get Tkixi back before he went to City or perhaps somehow convinced Dein to take over. I think for a club the size of Liverpool it would be helpful.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Oct 2014 00:15:45
Ed001 what do you think about Mancini?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - terrible, he spends his time bickering with his players. Avoid at all costs.}

24 Oct 2014 13:37:21
Does anyone else want to see Rossiter given a chance in the midfield in a real game? He really impressed me with his energy, determination and work rate in the midfield and I'd be happy to see him get a start over Allen (not that I think Allen has done much wrong) for a couple of games, or come in off the bench.

I'd also be pretty keen on seeing Lambert and Borini trained together to replicate the partnership Lambert had with Rodriguez last season. Although Rodriguez has a better shot on him than Borini, they are similar players and the balance last year worked very well - with Lallana, Sterling, Hendo, Coutinho et al it could really be the unleashing of a player who really should be worth at least 10 goals a season in games where we really need them

Believable3 Unbelievable4

24 Oct 2014 14:40:07
Wouldn't mind seeing Rossiter play he looked decent against Boro and good in the youths and reserves. I'd be disappointed if he didn't play in a couple of Prem games by the end of the season.

But I'd rather see Rodgers reinstate Lucas for a few games before deciding to plump for Rossiter. I think he'd help us quite a bit if he got back in the side.

Agree1 Disagree2

Borini will leave soon, so it will be counter-productive to do what you suggest in the 2nd paragraph.

While Rossiter is a very good young talent, now, when we are struggling in all areas of the pitch, to through him in could be detrimental to his development. Midfield is an area that is comparatively slightly better than our attack, defense and GK, so i rather stick to the tried and tested guy for now, at least until some stability can be arrived at in other areas.

Agree3 Disagree0

Rossiter will have his chance against Swansea on Wed, IMO.

Agree2 Disagree0

24 Oct 2014 16:15:07
Surely the concept of not building anything with Borini because he'll go soon is a self fulfilling prophecy. He'll go because nothing is built to his strengths and we don't use him. If we built a real strong attack that he was a significant, useful part of, why would he still go? Anyway, what he'll do in the future is irrelevant - we need goals now and if he can help us get them somehow, we'll worry about January when we get there.

Don't agree about young players being damaged by coming into a struggling team either tbh. Most young players break through either due to awful form of people, or lots of injuries etc - some form of crisis. Otherwise they don't get the chance. Don't see how first team minutes in the PL can hurt them unless the crowd are turning on them for some reason, but you got to be really bad for that - they'll usually turn on the manager first

Agree0 Disagree1

No, Borini will go because Br wants him out. It is counter-productive even discussing anything worthwhile with Borini and LFC, because it will not happen.

Agree2 Disagree0

And you think the crowd won't turn on these young players?

Agree1 Disagree0

At this rate, they`ll turn on anyone atm.

Agree0 Disagree0

AG and Redohio. who are the crowd turning against exactly?
Whatever is said in frustration on here isn't replicated by the matchday supporters who have been very supportive.particularly towards any youngsters.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Oct 2014 13:24:40
Ed1 you said that the committee was formed because of the mess Rodgers made of the signings. Which signings are you talking about?

From what I heard the committee was formed in January 2013 which means Rodgers made only 2 signings of his own choice. Those were Borini and Allen. In that first window he moved on Aurelio, Kuyt, Maxi, Aquilani, Bellamy, Adam, Carroll and others. Personally, I'd say that was a decent window. It's hardly a mess is it? Please could you elaborate?

Red Rum

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The committee only really had a serious impact this season. Last summer they were feeling their way and I am aware there were only a few transfers they were involved with. This summer more so.}

Which transfers were they from last summer ed?

Red Rum

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not interested in apportioning blame.}

At this point in time, you have to say the Transfer Committee has not done any better either.

Agree6 Disagree0

24 Oct 2014 15:05:07
You know, we all laugh at people who look at football manager and FIFA as a way to judge players (and rightly so). But in fairness it seems a damn sight more useful than whatever means successive transfer people have used at times

Agree1 Disagree0

I'm sorry but am I missing something here?

Ed1 says that the committee was assembled because of Rodgers failure in the transfer market and continues to blame Rodgers for the signings yet Rodgers only signed 4 players before FSG intervened. Are Borini, Allen, Coutinho and Sturridge so bad?

I don't think Rodgers is to blame here. I think it is FSG and the committee who are to blame for buying young/inexperienced/inadequate players and expecting Rodgers to work miracles with them.

I think all this criticism is unfair and I wouldn't blame Rodgers if he walked away to be honest.

Red Rum

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - what about Sahin and failing to use him? What about trying to force out Henderson? You are completely wrong if you think criticism of his transfers is not due. Rodgers made a mess in the market, you seem to have forgotten the signing of Assaidi too. Easy to do as he signed them then never played them. He was also the man who chose Aspas and Alberto. Hardly a success in the market.}

The commitee was a horrible idea. A case of too many cooks spoiling the soup. Get someone who is well-versed in transfer dealings who will work w/ BR (or put pressure on BR to work w/ him). It works at many clubs in Europe BUT only if both along w/ the scouting dept, are on the same page. Never heard of a transfer commitee and in my view, they should b sacked especially if they are the people who bought some of these players this summer.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Oct 2014 16:51:59
I thought Sahin refused to play no 10?

Agree1 Disagree0

Wasn't Assaidi already in place before Rodgers was appointed? Even so it doesn't really matter. We will still get back the money paid for him.

Sahin wanted to dictate where he played and whined like a bitch when he left. Glad he was just a loanee.

Aspas was a cheap back-up for SAS as Borini wanted to go out on loan.

Henderson wasn't up to standard when Rodgers offered him to Fulham. In hindsight It's easy to say that it would have been a mistake.

Alberto is a youngster that could well prove to be a good signing in years to come. I think it is a bit hypocritical to judge Rodgers for writing off Hendo when you are doing the same to Alberto.

I'm sorry ed but those are poor reasons to sack the manager. I think the positives out weigh the negatives by far, but it seems people easily forget the positives when going through a difficult time. Although I'm defending Rodgers I agree that some of his signings are questionable, but they don't warrant his sacking.

The best way to resolve this issue is to let Rodgers build a team that he wants. If it doesn't work then sack him, but at least give him a chance and if FSG want to continue to buy young players, buy them and keep them on loan as they have done with Origi. If need be get them on a 2 year loan so they aren't being sent from club to club. They need to stop giving Rodgers players to work with who he doesn't want in the team. Not only does it put him under pressure to play them, but creates a difficult working relationship with the players who are left out.

Red Rum

Agree5 Disagree2

24 Oct 2014 17:48:59
I think we all try and forget Assaidi on a daily basis

Agree1 Disagree0

Assaidi was BR third signing after Borini and Allen although I think he was identified under Kenny's tenure. Good post though and I totally agree that BR should be given the time to put his own team together and judge him then.

Agree3 Disagree2

Whatever reason you want to consider the committee was formed, it's hard to see a scenario where it's existence is something that pleases Rodgers and I can only imagine he was not in favor.

Agree1 Disagree0

I would say BR is more to blame than the Committee. The Committee's first real big job was to supplement the squad from where we were last season, particularly the replacement of Suarez. In that aspect, they have come out of it with eggs on their face and comes across as extremely naive.

BR, however, was I am sure, the one to make the final decision on whether a player comes or goes, and to put all of the blame on the Committee when they only started in force this summer, is wrong.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - BR is as you would expect the driver. A couple of players at least have been the choice of other members of the committee but they would have needed to persuade BR of the players being suitable. I don't see any benefit of dragging this out.}

There lies the problem. You CANNOT blame a coach for poor perfs if the players screwing up are the ones that were forced on him that he doesn`t want. If he has issues in the transfer market, there a 3 ways of fixing it. Either he shows he can cut it in the TW or be forced or willing to work with a DOF or if things don`t improve, he gets the sack. It`s that simple, IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - That is how football works.}

24 Oct 2014 12:27:32
Until things can be sorted out properly, how about switching back to 4-4-2 with Borini and Lambert paired up front - a fox in the box and a hit man. Sterling wide in midfield and gerrard kept as an impact sub - he just does not have the legs for 90 minutes especially where he is being asked to play and that is brutally apparent. Please list Balotelli on ebay. If we don't get rid of him he will bring Rodgers down.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Neither of them are good enough, you know that. Balotelli doesn't try enough. THe only way to fix this mess is to put our best player upfront to create and score. Raheem Sterling.

Agree1 Disagree3

I rather we used our strength, which is in the players who play behind the main striker (Lallana, Coutinho and Sterling) to good use and play a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-5-1 with a false 9.

Borini will be gone soon, so it makes little sense to build something with him.

Agree2 Disagree1

24 Oct 2014 12:21:47
Dear fellow reds. This is just an opinion.

EVERY manager, EVERY player, and EVERY team is not, cannot, and does not have to be perfect EVERY game.

Neither Barcelona nor real Madrid won La Liga last year.

Man City can't get into the knock-out stages of the Champion's League.

I understand you are hurting, but this is vitriol, not reason.

Managers who are floundering at the bottom of the table get the sack.

A BLIP is not the time for sackings, its time to get behind your team, support your players, be PROUD of who we are.

WE ARE LIVERPOOL

Believable7 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - surely the blip is the run at the end of last season? So perhaps it could be said that a blip is no reason to keep a manager.....}

Well said Stoneage, the man deserves some time without all this bull s##t speculation regarding his future, at the very least he's earned that right.

By all means discuss the merits of formations and personell, but talk of him going in the next few months are garbage. Some days I think I've ventured onto the Newcastle-Rumours site by mistake.

Agree4 Disagree2

24 Oct 2014 12:52:54
This is not vitriol. Rodgers was brought in to win FSG the Premier League - they are hard-faced businessmen and as such are totally cold-blooded and ruthless. They will not accept this season being worse than last. We were lucky against QPR. Our EPL form is such that we are going to struggle to finish in the top 4 if we don't start a very prolonged winning streak and start it very soon. We have only played 8 games so far and of those we have lost 3 and drawn one winning only 4 (a 50% win rate). We are already 9 points adrift of top spot. After 8 games last season we were third, 2 points behind the leaders, having lost only once. In fact we only lost 6 times in the whole season and it wasn't until the start of December that we lost our third game.

Agree4 Disagree2

24 Oct 2014 12:58:15
I don't think the why we started the season is a blip that is going to go away soon, its a bit longer term than that. But still think calling for the manager's sacking is pre-mature. We should wait till end of season and see where we are. Also we should n't be putting all the blame on him. To me the source of this problem is the bad transfers this summer , we lost Suarez and we did n't replace like for like, But; No one here (and I really do mean no one -including eds) know what happened during the transfer window , considering its a committee so there is a possibility that BR targets might have been different -- maybe these were his targets -- the point is no can know for sure.
Lets wait till Summer before we talk about new manager

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed is right mate. Aside from one 11 game winning run, when have we ever looked like a good side? Last season we played good football in spells and looked like a young attacking side that just lacked consistency. This season we have an older team and lack the attacking flair (and no that's not because of Suarez; how could that possibly affect Coutinho and Gerrards form etc). The whole team looks devoid of any philosophy or tactical plan.

We seem to be gradually improving and i suppose things like injuries have gone against us. Still though, in over 80 games, Rodgers has strung together a good 20 or so at the back end of last season (particularly that unreal 11 win streak). Really though, we've been good but not great aside from that.

I would argue though that this suggests he does have it in him to take us to the next level and perhaps we just need to be patient. Rodgers is still young himself and so is the majority of our squad. It'd just be nice to see our beautiful football back, even if we're not winning every game.

Agree2 Disagree3

Just in reference to a post further up this thread, i'm pretty sure if BR got Liverpool into the Champions League for the next 5 seasons without winning the league, FSG would not sack him. Yes, the fans want to win leagues and cups, but the financial difference between finishing 1st and 2nd in the league isn't a huge amount, so as long as BR is meeting top 4 targets, I doubt he'll be sacked (at least not for performance-related issues). On the other hand, it is starting to wind me up that he's just not altering the formation at all, when performances have not been great.

Agree0 Disagree0

When have we ever looked like a good side under Brendan:
2012/13 After purchasing coutinho and Sturridge we ended the season on an 8 game unbeaten run, and were playing some really good football. This included a 4 game ban on Suarez.
at the beginning of 13/14 without Suarez we started with 3 straight victories against stoke villa and united.
Infact BR had set a target I believe of 2 points per game so we'd finish the season on 76 points and a likely champs league spot, By the halfway stage we were BANG ON that 2 points per game mark. I would say that's not a blip

Agree5 Disagree0

I am not so sure FSG would be so lenient towards BR after the promises he made to them.

Agree1 Disagree1

STONEAGE.sometimes I feel your living in a stone age, these defensive calamities are not a blip they've been going on for well. .over 18 months to 2 years and they don't seem to be getting any better at it, something doesn't sit right but hey it most definitely isn't a BLIP.

Agree1 Disagree1

I would suggest that finishing second in the league last year would prove that we were a good side. I would also suggest that Suarez was a massive part of that reason. I don't see the need to look for other reasons or ideas when the facts are staring you right in the face. It was up to Brendan and Co to sort this issue out but they have failed to do so.

I got some replies to my post yesterday, thanks for that.

But no-one answered the central point.

I believe we would be better utilising our defenders who are all VERY poor at man-marking in a zonal system for set pieces only.

It really couldn't get any worse than it presently is, and BR seems to be taking full responsibility for the problem (I don't need a defensive coach - REALLY?).

BR needs the owners to either TELL him he needs a defensive coach (and provide one for him, as given that claim, I doubt he could identify a suitable candidate), or this may just be the beginning of the decline in BR's final season.

I was in Boston this year, visited Fenway Park, had a beer in Bleachers Bar, and the locals were very clear that FSG are ruthless with coaches.

ED01 - I see you commented on the first goal recently - no DM tracker. Not sure if I've missed an earlier comment.

I agree. If you watch it, CR fronts up to SG who is jockeying him 10 yards outside the area. CR pops it off to JR and SG goes to the ball and JR - who already had a man near him. SG completely failed to realise the danger of CR running beyond him.

Now, given CR's pace, I doubt he would have got near him, and I don't know if many DM's would have either. It's a class goal.

ALL goals can be prevented, if defenders are in the right place, but good forwards make themselves space.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - thank you, glad someone else sees that! Gerrard should have tracked him, but he doesn't have the instinct for defending that is needed to play that role. It wouldn't matter about Ronaldo's pace, if he was close Ronaldo would have been unable to get into his stride, it is difficult to sprint properly when an opponent is touch tight to you. It might not have prevented the goal, but it would have made it a difficult finish instead of the easy one Ronaldo ended up with.}

Thanks ED- mostly agree, but you must have a real downer on CR7 (and I think he isa g*bs**te) if you think it was an easy finish. Perhaps easier than it could have been. LOL

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - it was easy, he was within 6 yards of the goal with just the keeper to beat, so it doesn't get much easier. It was a good finish, but it was unchallenged and so easy.}

I'll agree stevie is at some fault, but Moreno(I think) has to be closer to JR to stop and make CR think about passing it, there's too much space given, hence stevie goes to close him. Then Skrtels attempt at a block is non existant. There are several things wrong with the goal.
Also he shot from 12 yards out.and like i said, should have also had skrtel to beat who pout in 0 effort.

Agree0 Disagree1

Absolutely spot on Ed. I said the very same thing when I got home and watched the replay. This has happened throughout the season, besides the set piece woes, it's the ball watching starting with Gerrard in front of the back four who as a consequence, creates a split second of uncertainty within players behind and we're being punished for it. If we had Matic, we'd improve over night. He'd provide defensive cover for the centre halfs allowing a higher line with full backs pushing on. This would allow the centre halfs to split when needed as they'd have the correct type of cover. The higher line would get the midfield more involved and the channel running might get a better service into Mario as a lone striker. As much as I hate to say it, in my opinion Gerrards the problem.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is difficult for most Liverpool fans to criticise Gerrard, but he has to be judged on what he does now, not what he did in the past.}

Gerrard has not tracked a man the whole season. Part of the reason we play Allen and Henderson either side of Gerrard is because they can help the full-backs out when needed.

Agree0 Disagree0

The very same happened against City and there's been others. Gerrards mindset defending an oncoming attacking player is as if he's on the training ground in the middle of a circle of players chasing the ball while they pass it to each other. I think it was the third goal against City, the amount of space he conceded by following the ball out on their right was criminal. We've seen how he can effect things playing further up front behind the forwards when Rodgers changed it against West Brom so why not start him on the bench as utd did with Giggs. I tell you why because Rodgers has overlooked a proper defensive mid in the transfer window, it's another one of his blind spots. So what does Rodgers do, starts Gerrard further forward against QPR because of the success against WBA, however Stevie still looks lost so he changes it back. He brings Cout on who changes the game against a QPR so after dropping 3 or 4 times this season Cout gets the nod against Madrid. Rodgers blows with the wind, he's doubled up in the transfer window and improved nothing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Skrtel definitely could have done very little more bar a diving header perhaps? The way he was running he couldn't get his leg up quick enough as ronaldo struck it so early.
And if he tried it would have had to be almost a karate kick and an almost definite red card and peno wwhich wouldn't have been much good?

Agree0 Disagree1

24 Oct 2014 15:48:50
I don't think you could keep a player such as Ronaldo quiet long. He would score no matter whose at the opposite end.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed001, I am the first person to say SG is not doing a good job as a HM, But I think it is wrong to point the finger at him instead of the two CD's. They were both caught out of position and not anticipated and reacted well.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - sorry but you are quite simply wrong on that, the onus is on the midfielder to track the run.}

It tells you all you need to know when teams like villa and West Ham openly admit to targeting gerrard

Agree1 Disagree0

Ed01, agree again sg didn't track his man, its a give and go, cds don't get a tackle or intercept either, and this is madrids best goal of three! The other two, fgfs how bad does it need to get before something is done!,

Your right ED, BR is showing ignorance towards our defensive problems it is crystal clear we require professional help in that area and one person who has been mentioned on here before is Steve Clarke also it is clear Ballotelli requires another partner up front, ok he is lazy shoots from afar however as an analyst for companies and an avid LFC fan it is obvious that if Ballotelli had another forward with him up front just like Suarez and Sturridge then we should judge him even though he has been inspiring to say the least.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

24 Oct 2014 10:57:10
Hi Eds, so what is the story with Suso? It seems likely that he will leave in January, but on a free! That's crazy. There are a lot of BR decisions I don't understand (if we are looking for a replacement/back-up keeper we could do a lot worse than Reina) but BR has publically stated that he sees Suso as a great talent, he had a good season on loan in Spain, yet BR never plays him and is willing to just let him go? Cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he just doesn't have the faith in his ability to trust him on the pitch. Not even as a late substitute.}

Ed001, why is BR being so ignorant about bringing in a defensive coach, surely, if the fans can see that there is a requirement for one (or two even), than why can't he? it's plain for everyone to see, and all the other clubs know precisely how to get at our defence. Added to that, our GK needs to be replaced quickly. Trapp is a good shout (from the Rumours pages).

It's also plain to see that the tactics and formation employed this season thus far have not worked. I wonder sometimes whether BR is actually working on resolving the issues, because for the fans, there seems to be no change. How long is he willing to continue with these changes before he realises that its not helping matters, and go back to playing the kind of football played last season, at least to some extent?

Essentially, we need leaders in all departments (I'd love to have 11 leaders on the pitch :-)), but we have none right now, well, maybe one (only one) in SG (but for how much longer?) and Hendo imo is getting there, slowly but surely.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he is stubborn and thinks he knows best. Stubborn is good, to a degree, but he has taken it too far this time. Too proud to admit he needs help and that is a big mistake.}

Stubborness is ONLY good if you have proved your worth over a period of time which BR has NOT. As a result if he keeps being obstinate, it will be his undoing.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Oct 2014 10:47:48
Eds, with the criticism being levelled at BR recently, some from you chaps (valid criticism of course!), how long do you think he will remain at Liverpool? I know Ed002 has mentioned that he eyes one of the big Spanish jobs, but I somewhat doubt that he will ever get one.

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - it really depends on how results go. He is beginning to push himself towards the exit door, it must be said. His attitude regarding a defensive coach is ignorance. It is unlikely he will be manager next season if we aren't picking up a trophy at the end of the season.}

That`s true ED. What is wrong with people on here, doing what he did at h/t when were 3-0 down showed he wasn't arsed in the slightest and there's nuggets on here defending him, are you crowd for real? He's a disgrace and should be dropped and told to look for a club in jan, but who'd touch him, oh wait a team with a transfer panel like ours.

If he could pull his finger out and knuckle down at the team he supported as a lad then why would he be bothered doing it anywhere else. Let me ask the #LFC'SNO1FAN brigade on here, if you played for liverpool would you do what he's done at AC? where they couldn't wait to get shut.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

I agree it was a bad decision. Its as if he was saying "3-0 down at half time, game over!". Not very professional. I would love to know which person on the transfer committee put Mario forward as an option? Rodgers should have had the balls to say no but if he gets stick for his signings (Aspas, Alberto etc) then the committee should also be held accountable.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - the committee should be sacked.}

That effing commitee is one of the major problems with this club

Agree0 Disagree0

BR is getting a lot of stick for these signings, but we know a lot of them were signed by the committee. I mean, It's all well and good buying young players for the long term future, but what about the now? Rodgers should be allowed to build his team before the club start bringing in tons of youngsters.

Red Rum

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - the committee were brought in because of the mess Rodgers made of the signings.}

It seems to me 'the committee' has created a bit of an internal power struggle with BR seemingly more interested in pointing out, at least indirectly, Mario wasn't really his idea than anything. Perhaps I'm reading it wrong, though. The intentions were good in the creation of it, but you know what the say about good intentions.

Agree0 Disagree0

RDL, this type of power struggle is what happens when there is no distinct structure in the transfer heirachy and in the end, BR will be sacked b4 that transfer committee gets dissolved which will b a shame. That commitee has caused more harm than good, IMO. BTW, what coach worth his salt will wanna work in such calamitous circumstances? NONE!

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree to an extent, redohio. Not sure if it's fair to say or not, but BR reminds me of several director/VPs I work with who are excellent at managing upwards and generally more concerned about themselves than others. He's ambitious and driven which can be a good thing, but sometimes it ends in him doing/saying things that are seemingly less about promoting the team and more about promoting himself.

I do wonder a bit sometimes if him constantly playing Balotelli on his own is more about because he thinks it's the best thing to do or if it's to prove a point.

That said, perhaps a lot of nonsense in this post, not like I know the guy personally or anything.

Agree0 Disagree0

Now that I agree with RDL because some coaches do that to send a message to the commitee or DOF that he never wanted him hence, putting him in situations to fail. However, he didn`t want Hendo at first BUT gave him a chance to prove his worth instead of having him rot in the reserves to prove a point. Only time will tell, tho. On the other points, BR is just showing that he`s incapable of managing all the spheres of being a PL manager. He needs help because obviously, he`s not good at multi-tasking.

I for one am getting sick of hearing everyone running mario down. He's obviously no luis suarez so please stop comparing the two, once sturridge returns and he has a bit more support up top he will start flying. Personally I'm concerned that defensively were worse than last season and that we have a serious issue with mignolet.should have kept Agger and kelly/wisdom, lovren and manquillo are certainly not the answer.Let's concentrate on conceding and I'm sure the goals will soon follow. Finally for all that are going on and on about origi, yes he looks good but he's on a season long loan. Why in gods name would Lille allow their best player to leave 6 months earlier than is required.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - why would Mario start flying then? He has never shown a thing in his career to suggest he will start even trying then, let alone become some kind of superstar for us!}

He is getting stick not for his lack of goals so far but for the fact he is lazy and does not put in a proper shift, is petulant and a bad influence on the team as a whole. now br says he is working hard in training and deserves his chance? dear lord give fabio a chance, he at least will work for the team.

So Brenda has come out and stated he doesn't need a defensive coach. Sorry but virtually all Liverpool fans will disagree with you. The club has spent enough on defenders yet still can't defend corners so something has to change. He's changed enough playing staff so maybe he needs to changing his coaching staff because someone isn't dong their job properly. Wake up and smell the coffee as the situation is embarrassing at the moment.
We used to have great CB pairings like hansen and Lawrenson or hyypia and carragher. At the moment we have laurel and hardy!!

Believable7 Unbelievable0

I have always felt that good teams are built from the back, once you stop teams scoring against you then the rest of the team becomes more confident, he likes to build attacking teams but there is no point scoring 5 or six goals if your going to let more in at the back. He has plenty of people like Carra who he can talk to so he needs to admit he needs help in this department and sort it out

24 Oct 2014 08:23:45
For the banter page. What do you guys honestly think about players swapping jerseys at half time? Is the media blowing it out proportion, if it was any player other than Balotelli would it get the same attention? I found it unbelievable that at press conferences yesterday other premier league managers were asked their opinion, the media are quite obviously creating the storm. Would it have been an issue if Liverpool were winning 3 mil at half time? Personally I don't care about it, it is irrelevant to me. I think it was ill timed but it doesn't influence the outcome of a game. I'd rather that the focus was on what the team are doing on the field and the obvious deterioration of what was already a poor defence

Believable2 Unbelievable1

I struggle to see why anyone would care about shirt swapping if we were up 3 MIL at half time. that's like what? 66667 goals per min?

on a serious note though, i don't mind doing players swapping shirt, its just that doing that at half time is kinda not right is it? i mean you should be focused on your football as there's another half to play.

yes media has aided in making this a big issue, but were not really in a good position are we? there will be blame game going around until we get better. what if Pepe was the one that actually asked for it?

Balotelli isn't really making it right now, but i do kinda pity him for all the focus on him, and everything single thing he does/doesnt do.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it really is silly to even mention no one would care if we were 3 nil up anyway, the point was he should have been focused on the game BECAUSE we were 3 nil down. Surely that is obvious?}

24 Oct 2014 09:39:10
Yeah the media will do that when it involves 1 of the biggest clubs in the world, have to laugh at big fat Sam he couldn't resist a dig at Liverpool"Brendan has more to worry about on the pitch".Yeah were playing awful and still have as many points as his latest team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Listen I'm no fan of the media but what Mario did annoyed the hell out of me. Giving away your shirt at half time when you're 3-0 down is symbolic of giving up. It didn't happen in Istanbul and it should never happen when wearing our shirt.
What if the fans gave up at half time? Swapped their allegiances with the Real fans? What if the fans decided to give Mario's wage to the Real players instead?
It's outrageous and I don't care what the media says. Mario is not a team player and he never will be. He needs to be sold in January.

I'm going to try put a different perspective on the game if I can.

Up until the first goal I honestly think we defended quite well there was a bit of midfield not tracking but we're not going to be perfect and it was certainly a improvement .

Also we did look good going forward and real got a little rattled. ballotelli should have played sterling through first minute but after that for me he played well. made good runs played a lovely cross field ball to Johnson and finally used his pace and power to beat a man and then pick out Allen. I'm not saying it was amazing but again was certainly a big improvement.

Let's not forget there was nothing we could do about the first goal!.

The second goal there were a couple of small errors . ballotelli and Johnson (I blame gj more as he's the defender) should have closed kroos down but again 9 in 10 there's no goal there sadly we were playing Madrid.

3rd goal no doubt awful defending I wwon't try and defend it. a bit like our defense

After that there's not Mich point analysing the game as it was over.

But I don't think we were that bad. I honestly don't if Allen's shot had gone in completely different game and that was what we needed. something to go our way.

I was worrird most with the slight off control in attacking areas with touches being very poor possibly confidence.

And I am one that says we can't fully write off ballotelli til we give him a partner. he's not a lone striker and there are many strikers who aren't. some need support. it's the same with Lambert who always has said he is not at his best up front by himself.

And when sterling played up top with balotelli at the start I think I saw enough positive signs to give him a chance.

The jersey thing also ridiculous pepe asked him and if he had told pepe where to go we would have seen headlines about that too! Possibly should have waited til in the tunnel but far too much criticism placed on him here for me.

Just to clarify I'm not a massive balotelli fan but I have to be optimistic or I don't see the point so I'm going to focus on the slight positives and hope a partner will bring out the best.

Just a opinion and different point of view

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - sorry but to say there was nothing that could be done about the first goal is just nonsense. A defensive midfielder who actually tracks runs would have followed Ronaldo and put him under pressure at least.}

Careful Ed. Wouldn't want to be called a fickle fan ;) spot on in my opinion though Ed.

Shane I agreed with most of what you said tbf. We made 3/4 defensive errors and got punished for it. Madrid made a few errors as well but we weren't as clinical. Overall performance was a big improvement.

Agree0 Disagree1

I go through phases with Spanish teams and who I like in Spain.
At the moment my favourite side is Athletico Madrid.
When they play Real they do not let any Real Madrid players have any time or space on the ball.
It is a full press for 90 mins.
Why can't we press for 90 minutes like Athletico?
I thought that was part of Rodger's blueprint for his teams.
We did it for 20mins and we were in the game. Then we stopped and got opened up.

Agree2 Disagree0

I meant in general ed like it's impossible or nearly impossible to have a flawless performance. I think someone tracking ronaldo might have helped but there are times where you put your hands up and say there's not much more we could have done. otherwise by your logic ed we should never concede?

I was just looking for some positives and the back 4 was good for 35 minutes out of the 45 which mattered which is an improvement on 0. And balotelli was a lot better with someone up front with him. these were my main points.

I would be more concerned if I was a arsenal fan because as Paul merson said if they were playing Madrid it would have been a real embarrassment and I don't think we were truly embarrassed I think we were outclassed in a important period in the game

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I fully agree we should never concede, and when we do, we should always examine the reasons why and try to ensure it doesn't happen again. It is poor management to just say 'oh well, nothing we could do about it', there is always something that can be done.}

Yeah in fairness I agree with you JB we should be able to but for whatever reason we aren't which has to be put not only at the feet of Rodgers but the desire to be able to do that on the players behalf

Pretend to play against genuine European team. Swap shirts at half time if you are a bit tired. Have a laugh and a joke with genuine stars like Ronaldo during the game. How much does it cost ? nothing we will pay you up to ninety grand a week for the experience!!
Fancy being a manager? come on in our mock up press room and say you are really proud of your team getting thrashed at home. Pretend you have a clue about sending a team out to play a proper match. No experience? Not won anything? Not a problem just turn up and spout some PR baloney in a soothing voice. Will you be a bit ashamed given the hard won history of European achievement that you have sent out a bunch of kids and no marks? No need to worry !
Don’t forget this is not real European football so no real consequences just turn up and have fun !

Fair point Adam, though I don't reckon even Harry's embarrassing enough to label our team 'kids and no marks', the majority of who are the lads that took us to second place last year, whilst playing our best football in decades.

Mind you, you never know with Harry.

Agree0 Disagree0

I realise it doesn't have the wit and insight of your pearls of wisdom and I agree kids and no marks was perhaps phrase to far. However my point was that having watched the reds for 48 years I come from a generation that didn't get overly excited about coming second ( or right a book about it ??)

We use to win stuff

I thought the performance was a disgrace and shamed our proud tradition. Do you think Rafa would have allowed Real to pee all over us.
I like Brendan but he is two trick pony who was lucky enough to have the worlds greatest player on fire in his team last year.

He has won nothing (fact!) as Rafa would say and in my view ( and Carra's) not as good as Rafa who got to two finals with half the resource's Brendan had. He is not as good as Houllier or Kenny if you are judging him on winning stuff

Brendan end of last season and this season has not a clue about how to put thing right. Plus he is lousy judge of players and is ego will not allow him to buy experienced players
who might see through him.

Agree0 Disagree1

Redmarx, I've supported Liverpool for nearly fourty years, so am also used to seeing us winning things. Yet for the large majority of the last twenty years i've also become accustomed to watching some utter dirge (other than the odd season here and there).

Rodgers hasn't won anything, yet, but give him a chance FFS, we nearly won the league last year, only finally losing out on the last day.

All those managers you mentioned may have won something, but we were left watching utter rubbish under all of them, hence their departure.

I have been watching the Balotelli comments - not just from last night but from season-start. I said when we bought him it was either an act of madness or genius. To be frankl, he's lazy & doesn't watch the game. His work rate is atrocious - that wouldn't be so bad if it was 'atrocious but scores', but it isn't - it's 'atrocious and doesn't score'. To put it in perspective, QPR have scored more goals for us this season than Balotelli. If things don't change significantly over the next 2 months, we run the risk of Rodgers being hoofed come January. I kid you not.

If you ask me it's Balotelli. Why buy a static statue that rarely moves as a replacement for the liveliest of livewires? Is it me? Is that lost on you lot? Berahino (the west brom lad) or someone like him and you lot would be flying! But Balotelli? Not the right style for a fast paced quick breaking liverpool team (doesn't offer any consistent movement and has slowed you right down) - and that's not even to mention the baggage! Silly signing IMO. he's halted development in its tracks! Some of you will scorn this post but for me the type if striker defines your team. It's the most vital position on the pitch, example:
Peter Crouch = long ball team
Nando Torres = hit you on the break style
Etc etc.
Liverpool don't know what style they have with Balotelli up there.

I think you'll find all of us (or at least a large number) are wondering the exact same thing.

Totally agree Everton1, I'd rather play Borini up there, with him at least you know you're getting a lot of movement and if he's not banging in the goals he's creating the space for others to do so.

Totally agree Everton1. It doesn't make any sense and it's not the first time it has happened. We seem to be completely useless in the transfer market.
