I'm delighted Suarez looks like he's staying for the season ahead but I hope it doesn't impact on sturridges playing time

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think it will. The team was built around Suarez last year and it won't be this year because he most certaintly will be off next year. Sturridge up top with Suarez as RF. Obviously there will be some interchanging in game but I don't hink he'll be the focus

Agree0 Disagree0

The pair did play together in like 11 games or something last season, so it's not like they're strangers.

Agree0 Disagree0

I still think sturridge would drop to the bench when suarez is ready.he is a good player but he can't lead our attack like the cannibal does

Agree0 Disagree0

Great game on Saturday, but I found our inability to launch counterattacks in the second half a bit worrying.

This really is a pointless post and I apologise eds up front for it but hey ho.

I just wanted to say if we do not bid for Arda I will say for the first time I will be a disappointed man in LFC.

I have never had issues over what our owners are willing to pay and find that quite refreshing in many ways but I cannot see for the life of me why we won't bid as I think if we do and iots acceptable he would want to join us. and he really is world class

EDS have a word with the club please! And while you're at it Sakho also

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2013 21:49:30
Hi eds, not strictly transfer related but is the plan to get someone for the left and then move couthino to the centre, and when Suarez comes back put him on the right? That seems like an amazing forward line if it is? {Ed002's Note - I don't like giving my tactics away in the public domain.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Haha Ed002. you've been quite mischievous these last couple of days

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2013 21:49:17
Mata on loan to athletico surely BR would want a slice of him, he would be perfect for us. Coutinho may have to stick to the left. If can't loan bid that money they put forward for him.

Can you see this ed? {Ed002's Note - I would not hold your breath.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2013 21:16:54
hi eds

do you reckon with the form we are in that the owners won't sanction a move for any other player or players, and will wait till january to see if we need a player due to injurys, or if our form is not what it is now, or if the youngsters suffer burn out like sterling did last season, we have been linked with a few players and we have not brought any of them in, I know some of them chose to move to different clubs but I think arda turan wants to come here, but his price is too much for the owners to pay, again its down to the money, I can't wait till the window closes now we have brought players in and a loan player so I think that's the buisness done for the club,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2013 21:15:58
Hey Ed, the way we have gone about our business this summer it looks like we still want a solid defender and a top attacking midfielder. My post is more of a concern than question. Last year we set out to sign a striker before the window closed and we left it to late, leaving us short for the beginning of the season. There is only a week left in the transfer window this time round, and we are still 2 players short of a complete team. Ed Do you think BR and the rest have it all under control and we will sign them quality players or do you think we should be worried? Cheers Ed.
ROI. {Ed002's Note - I never worry man. If it gets done it does, if not you just soldier on.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2013 20:38:23
Eds do you reckon Liverpool will sign any new players before the transfer deadline? {Ed001's Note - it would seem likely, though it hasn't gone according to plan, so who knows?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Victor Moses on a season long loan according to the Mail as Chelsea don't want a permanent sale, can't see anyone else reporting this so probably journo B.S**t.

Agree0 Disagree0

What's not gone according to plan ed001? Missed potential targets? Also, without really trying to blame anyone, why is it our plan and transfer strategy hasn't gone as expected. Is it Liverpool the club being cautious over money, the opposing clubs or Ian ayre our football clubs human dart board? {Ed001's Note - it is not as easy as just making an offer and it is done. So many players have multiple ownerships, that English clubs are unable to have, so that makes it difficult. If we want to buy them, we have to buy every single part share of the player, whereas most foreign clubs can just buy the part owned by the selling club. These shares can be owned by agents or companies that simply aren't willing to give up their share in a player for a reasonable cost. It is not like the old days, where the players you want are within easy reach for the manager to just pop along and convince them. Also the transfer window limits the time clubs have to get deals done, so, unless the club are looking to sell a player, it becomes harder to negotiate a deal, unless you are willing to just throw money at it. I do think the team we have in place to negotiate are not ideal, while good in their own areas, they are still learning the roles they are being asked to fulfil for us. All things considered, we did well to make a number of early signings, which ensures we can afford to not be held to ransom. Now we only buy the right player for the right price. Unfortunately that has proved to be difficult, we are going for players that have other options, options with European football and higher wage ceilings. So players choosing us are wanting to play for Liverpool, which is surely a good thing, is it not?}

Eds

Any interest in Pedro Ledesma as a LW?

Thanks {Ed002's Note - No.}

25 Aug 2013 20:04:51
Hopefully our new attacking midfielder will be Yarmolenko or Konoplyanka, both young technically gifted, very quick players, who I have a soft spot for after rooting for Ukraine in last years euros. Do the eds think those two players would want to move to LFC if we came calling, and would they work well with Rodgers passing system?

Once again thanks for all the great work and time you all put into the site!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2013 21:33:29
I did a review on them both that can be found on the LFC blogs and voting polls page. I believe Yarmalenko would be a good fit for our system, but I don't think Konoplyanka is good enough technically to make it in the premier league, particularly in our passing system.

Hope you give it a read, and would appreciate any feedback.

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be made up with Yarmolenko, seen him a few times for Ukraine and in European games. Looks a good player with a good goal record for club and country. Also adds a bit of height to our attack and a cracking left foot

Agree0 Disagree0

Good informative read Adam, thanks pal.

IF Skrtel stays, which I think he will, Liverpool should buy Ilori. Great defender, young, and it allows Wisdom to go out on loan.
Our Centre Backs would be: Agger, Kolo, Ilori, Skrtel.
We also need to buy this 'Left-Sided' attacker we need. Shortlist of; Turan, Ayew, Griezmann and Ljajic. Personally I would be happy with any of these signings.
Finally I think we need to look at the deeper lying midfield spots. Currently we have Lucas, Gerrard, Allen and Henderson who can play in this role (I'm not sure Alberto could play this role), also Henderson plays further forward sometimes, so i'd like another player in that position. UNLESS Kolo or Baio could play there, as an Ed has previously pointed out. Otherwise I do not know who? Maybe Jorginho? I like Xhaka, but he has only been with BM for a year.

So I only want 3 more signings Brendan ;) haha

Opinions please, Cheers guys :)

not sure about turan, too injury prone??griezmann no and ljajic is probably off to roma to replace lamela

So man city are struggling in defence and Chelsea are on the look out for a decent striker. Thanks for Kolo and Daniel both, more money than football sense comes into mind

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well said dude. Very true

Agree0 Disagree0

Inter looking for a playmaker too?

Agree0 Disagree0

He is coming up 31 this year and there has been no interest from Liverpool.}25 Aug 2013 19:35:28
Hi eds any interest in Essien at chelsea? Seems like he's a forgotten man and I think Considering BR looks to be turning kolos career around then he mite be able to do the same with essien. The lad used to be up with the best midfielders in the world and he's 28 so for something like 6-7m I think he could do a job for us as he can cover at RB aswel {Ed002's Note -

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Great shout

Agree0 Disagree0

Would love to see him at Anfield, if he was even half as good as he was at his peak but don't see it, mainly due to wages. What was Ed002 going to say though? {Ed002's Note - It slipped up the page. He is coming up 31 this year and there has been no interest from Liverpool.}

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2013 19:12:47
Arda turan is tearing the place up tonight! He actually looks possessed!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Meaning he s playing for a tranfer

Agree0 Disagree0

I'll preface this with I don't really watch Atletico or Turan much and I don't see anything much happening unless Suarez leaves, but for me, Turan is pretty much tapping up Liverpool (if such a thing can be said to happen), he clearly has a pretty high degree of ability, he has a clear price tag, and he plays in an attacking left position.

Granted he doesn't probably check all of Rodger's boxes, but the guy would definitely give 100% every time on the pitch and be committed to the club which is something that is hard to put a price on. Unless the club has some other target seriously identified and believes a deal would complete, we would be a bit foolish to at least not seriously consider making a move (again, presuming Suarez is off- if not, I doubt we sign anyone at that sort of price level).

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2013 19:07:17
we have got to be excited about this boy suso he has been immense in la liga with almeria so d silva like. eds have we ever looked at fredy guarin of inter? still think maybe next season we need conpetition for lucas and start preparing for gerrard when his times up. I like lucas but I still think we could upgrdate on him. I realise this window we have more pressing concerns. guarin well within budget would cost around 15-20 m and is only on about 70 k a week

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2013 20:37:02
Also adjoran who's on loan at groningen scored today, but was also sent off! Hope he and suso come back stronger and hungry, the mancs have used the loan system well for a few years, wellbeck, cleverley and even beckham went on loan! I think alex inglethorpe has had a big influence on this, ngoo, coady also on loan!

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2013 19:01:47
What a run for turan. Worth the release clause imo!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So far he has 2 assists and a goal

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2013 18:42:35
Never seen Turan play before but he looks pretty damn good tonight for AM - definitely worth a punt, I wonder if we really are interested?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed johnny he looks very very impressive

If we cans get him for less than his buyout clause would be very good business.

Offer 15m euros and get him to push to come to Liverpool

Agree0 Disagree0

Just pay it get arsenal trying to crash the party

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we should offer AM 45 million pounds for Turan. That will be massive massive statement of intent. :)

Since we weren't able to get Mark Key, Turan is a good option.

Before we do though, we need to consider exactly where he will fit in this team and who will be benched from the 1st 11/or so.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do that when his release clause is half that amount?

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2013 18:31:31
Just been watching all the goals D.S has scored for us. His range of goal scoring is insane, very diverse from tap in's to dribbling it in etc. I don't think he get's the plaudits he deserves apart from us Lfc fans. Not sure, but maybe folk think if he was so good then why would both Citeh and the chavs let him go. Anyway my point is, from what I have seen I truely believe he is world class . Go check on youtube all the goals he has scored for us, totally superb. Mark my words he is not getting unnoticed from the top european teams either. He will get better and better.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

DS needed to be the main striker. at Chelsea and City he was wayyyyyyy down the pecking order and couldn't get consistent games. look at what he did for bolton, he was a fixture in the side with them while on loan and he produced the goods. now that he has gotten consistent playing time with us his class is shining through. I definitely think he will go down as one of our shrewdest pieces of business.

Agree0 Disagree0

The reason why City and Chelsea both had him, is because he was identified as an 'exceptional talent' by both clubs. Unfortunately for him, being an exceptional talent isn't good enough at either of those clubs, you have to already be the best that money can buy, otherwise you will be on the bench at best. By going to Liverpool, he has the opportunity to the change the 'exceptional talent' into exceptional ability. The same goes for Coutinho, and to a lesser degree Toure, which is why they are such good buys - they all have something to prove to themselves and the world. Anyone who thought Sturridge was a dodgy signing when we bought him simply didn't know enough about him. He has always been a quality player.

Agree0 Disagree0

DS looks like not only a great goal scorer but a scorer of great goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

DS and rvp will fight for the title this year. got to be honnest though, when Suarez comes back, what will happen? I will get so irritadet if suarez takes sturrigdes spot right away.
DS is future, Suarez is 1 season MAX, pluss´all his drama that comes with. DS is just calm, and a real rolemodell, what a Liverpool striker should be.

Agree0 Disagree0

I Agree and keeping him fit for a season will be the biggest challenge. If we can, he will play a very significan role in the position we end in the league.

Suarez not going anywhere, there is talk of new contract.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would we want di maria

OMG Cardiff! What a performance! Full marks for commitment, fight and belief. Citeh didn't turn up, and Hart was abysmal!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hart has been poor for 12 months+ now, wonder when people are going to realise he isn't that good

Those are stuff a team REALLY needs that big money can`t buy.

Ed, Any chance that Liverpool will go for enquiring Victor Moses from Chelsea?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2013 17:44:51
Honestly spurs get a penalty for that. what about sturridge yesterday?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2013 19:26:40
Watch the replay with a completely un biased outlook, and you will notice that Guzan got a finger to the ball before he touched Sturridge. No matter how much we may wish otherwise, it was a find decision

Agree0 Disagree0

No chance yesterday, the keeper got the slightest of touches to take it away from Sturridge.

Agree0 Disagree0

I meant that sturridges was more of a penalty

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2013 17:42:31
Just an observation. Soldado looks so far, to be the most expensive penalty taker the Prem has seen.
I jest obviously, but I really have not seen during his time on the pitch in England -his price being justified in any way.
Sturridge looks twice the player at half the price.
Create his own chances, pace, power, skill.
Attributes Soldado seems to be lacking so far.
Admittedly it may change and I never watched much of him during his period at his previous club.
But so far. meh. *shrugs

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I watched their game with Swansea from start to finish. Too early to say this but I suspect Paulinho is the only really good acquisition they have made this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

A Spanish version of Rooney then.

Agree0 Disagree0

Soldado needs service and judging by what we have seen, he will struggle if things don`t change. Paulinho was a BEAST at the confed cup this summer so no surprise there. Spurs have been quite fortunate these two games but we`ll see what happens going forward.

Ed002. Sorry that my posts can be confusing, I mostly visit this site to entertain myself whilst cooking, so my concentration is normally elsewhere when I post! What I meant to say, is whether there are any recent developments that you can tell us about, like how you mentioned the Ayew enquiry. Sorry for the confusion! Thanks. {Ed002's Note - No problem. There is nothing report worthy right now that I am aware of. Aside from minor details, I am pretty sure everything has been shared. I would not call what you are doing now cooking by the way - and you might want to turn off the web cam.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2013 17:06:23

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2013 16:25:54
Have to say that on reflection it's probably a good thing we didn't spend a kings ransom on Willian, stats wise he doesn't justify a 30m fee and cutting back the agents fees has to be applauded as the rumoured 5m that was asked is ridiculous.

I would also on reflection whether 30m for someone who is 25 with only two international caps is good value for money?

So we are still looking and I would hope the club look at Eriksen as he is 21 won't cost a kings ransom and fits the clubs policy, also it looks like Suarez is staying now so he will be like a new signing after his ban.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We won't be getting Erikson.

Agree0 Disagree0

And that is a good thing. IMHO

Agree0 Disagree0

We don't want erikson.
his not that good.
Lets just wait untill we get a real good buy. we are not in a hurry :-)
Have heard so much talk about that guy, and the more I see of him, the more I think, eeeh, we can do without.
BUT, hi is a talent, that's for sure, but to what price.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2013 16:24:21
Anyone else think that Chelsea will go in for Suarez? Only wishing we could get mata in exchange, even though I don't think he's even available, despite the special ones comments. A player like Mata would be much more important to our team than Suarez

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Fully agree. Mata would fit perfect.
But we need one more class striker aswell, if Sturridge gets injured, whos going to step up then?

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2013 16:22:08
Sup eds. Curious if you have any info regarding Dusan Tadic of FC Twente. Not only from Liverpool (because I don't think there is any interest from us) but are any other teams interested in this player at all? Much love. Much appreciated.

YNWA {Ed002's Note - There is no interest from Liverpool - Dortmund, Everton and Schalke want him as a squad player but a move is very unlikely this summer.}

Watching the Tottenham-Swansea game. Keeping an eye on Shelvey. We all know we will be wanting to sign him back in 1 year. :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So far he's got a yellow card and a foul which should've been a penalty. Lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Scratch that he may not have gotten yellow. But still been wreckless

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope Shelvey plays against us in September

Agree0 Disagree0

This game optimizes why Rodgers made an excellent move getting rid of Shelvey, thank god.

Great first 40 mins against Villa
Won the ball back quickly, looked composed and confident in possession. Made them look very average.
Most of the second half we went long and gave the ball back to them who in fairness looked the better team at the end.
Why did Mignolet keep going long. Brendon's philosophy of keeping the ball at all times went out the window and nearly cost us.
We didn't need to resort to humping it, as the first half showed.
Anyway, who cares? We won!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was wondering that. But my guess is he's been informed to kick long until he gets a bit more confidence as lfc no. 1.
The last thing he needs is a stupid error costing us points this early in his career.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bacon has hit the nail on that and its exactly what I think. He isn't as comfortable as Reina with the ball at his fit so I suspect that Rodgers has told him, whenever in doubt, just to get rid. Its good advice, the last thing we need a new goalie doing is making a daft mistake, costing us a goal and taking a knock to his confidence as a result.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2013 15:39:01
real are trying to loan us nacho and morata

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Interesting choice of words. They are trying to forcibly loan us those players? Did we express any interest first?

Agree0 Disagree0

I like nacho's not sure if I could give them back.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gudnoix I don't no sorry morata don't want to leave even on loan anyway but he knows if they can't sell benzema it makes no sense to stay he said no to spurs

25 Aug 2013 15:37:48
all this talk of transfer but I really don't think kolo toure and simon mignolet are getting praise that they should they have been like marquee signings they have been on another level. wev got a team nearly similar to last year bar a better keeper and we were 12 points off champs league about 9 points of which were reinas mistakes eg both city games. so that's how close we are. big up to simon and more so big kolo legend!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Have you read the posts? everyone has been praising them.

listen would it be the end of the world if we sold suarez? no. we have played the last how many games without him and haven't lost a single 1, so we won't be missing anything and we just have to make sure we replace him with a right forward/striker. add that to the CB and left winger/forward we already need. if skrtel is sold then another CB would also be needed.

LF - Eds also mentioned that LFC asked about a fee for Andre Ayew
CB - We all know Tiago Ilori is a target LFC just want the right price

RF/ST - Eds said something about LFC making inquiries a few weeks ago into Leandro Damiao and Carlos Vela should suarez be sold.

CB - Sakho is the would be replacement for Skrtel and LFC already had a £8m tester bid rejected for Sakho and LFC also rejected a £10m bid for Skrtel.

{Ed002's Note - There have been no enquiries for Leandro Damiao or Carlos Vela and I think someone has been teasing you about Sakho.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It has come to this. Us being linked with Carlos Vela?

Agree0 Disagree0

"{Ed002's Note - A couple of weeks back a representative of Luis Suarez told one of the clubs that they were trying to get interested in their client that Liverpool will look to move for Damaio if he is still available or Carlos Vela.}"

{Ed002's Note - And where does that say Liverpool has made enquiries for either Leandro Damiao or Carlos Vela? And people wonder why I am loathe to explain certain things.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Gudnoix I thought the same was thinking of how vela played at the gunners but when someone mentioned him I looked at his highlights from last year he looks much improved over his time at arsenal he would bea good addition Iif right price I was supprised how much he's come along not saying he'd set the league on fire but may suprise a few I don't think were interested any way just offering my 2 pence on him

Agree0 Disagree0

Any sane team would put money in carlosvela.
dont judge him by arsenal status. he nearly never played for arsenal.
if u have the least bit of interest in la liga u would knw
i follow the spanish league closely and not just barcelona and real madrid.
he was intrumental for sociedad charge up champions league.
he is strong solid pacey technically adept and ball wonder kid.
he breaks up defenses and has an eye for a pass. his last season stats stand at 14 goals and 9 assists. but it was his support play to the striker that impressed me. arguably being small he is able to win headers and hold the ball. add to it his dribbling and pace and a fierce shot. can use both right and left .

and more so he has carried his form into this season scoring 2 and assisting two . he has been involved in all sociedad goals this season.

personally I believe he lacks the work rate, doesn't track back much at all.
but he is pretty decent player at 24 years of age. he has improved his attitude and game immensely,
for 15 million he is complete player, one Liverpool are looking for.
though its quite possible he won't prefer a move to bpl or us. he is in the champions league almost . as they beat lyon away 2-0
if they enter CL he will light up europe.

A question for ed002, I was wondering how come the club is still running at a loss ov £1 million a week when they have done everything they can to raise and save cash e.g better and more sponcership deals and lowering the wage bill etc etc. over the last few years i'm not expecting us to run at a profit yet but would have thought it be halfed. Not a pop or anything at the club i'm fully behind the owners i'm just curious. many thanks in advance {Ed002's Note - There has been a recent improvement I understand but there are still losses being incurred.}

what's the probability of signing lamela eds? cheers {Ed002's Note - I would not hold your breath.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can't wait for transfer window to finish! If we add then fine but the squad now compared to few seasons ago (ie hodgson era) might still be thin on the ground but has got YOUNG and HUNGRY players that want that liver bird on the shirts to mean something to people and them! If we can get quality players at a cheap price then great but why pay 20-30 million pounds for someone that might add something. the best players are the ones that still have football in their blood and not £ notes on their mind! We looked amazing first half yesterday for most of it villa couldn't get the ball! Tikka takka all the way. YNWA

Can I ask a favour from one of the regular posters on here?
Perhaps someone with some time on their hands.

Any chance that on the day after transfer deadline day, we post on the rumours articles page a list of EVERY player we have been linked to this closed season? Perhaps throw-in the source (newspaper/jorno) for a laugh.
I bet we've been linked with at least 50 players, and their dog.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What position does the dog play in? Hope we sign him, before spurs put a bid in

Fullishness if Teixeira isn't involved then I would personally advise him to go and don't look back, because they would be picking 16 year old's over him at the age of 20.

Here an interesting yet useless fact for the day (one time deal).

Philppe Coutinho is the second Coutinho to be on Liverpools books. Remember Vito "Coutinho" Flora for the Reserves back with Nemeth and El Zhar Etc. think he was released only because of paperwork issues.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Shame about Nemeth's career turning out like it has. Had great expectations of that kid. Oh Well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah what even happened to him

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought flora went to fulham along with kacinilic to get that lb here
i don't remember the lb's name,
but he was pathetic
i am sure some brazilian striker went to fulham from us, may be dalle valle

Agree0 Disagree0

Dalla valle was Italian and whilst he banged them in for the U18's I always thought he looked far too sluggish to ever make the grade. Yeah Konchesky for 2 promising youngsters, Hodgson was a disaster

Agree0 Disagree0

Dalle valle is finnish I think, and I think it was christopher buchtmann that went to fulham with kacaniclic

Just regarding our centre back search is there a young Sami Hyypia out there at a bargain price like Sami? Peoples and eds thoughts would be great?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Tiago Ilori at £6m is the closes thing to bargain price for a club like Liverpool in the year 2013

Ilori for 3.5m-4.0m. Nothing more than that.

Why would Liverpool offer Suarez a new contract?
He got one last year and he should honour that.
He deserves nothing more.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What if the contract said we had to let him go or let him decide if we didn't make the champions league and an offer of 50m pounds came in? He knows he will be playing in the Champions League next season and we get an acceptable amount for Suarez? Maybe you can change the 50m for whatever you as seeing a sensible price but the point being he gets what he wants, we get a player with incentive and a minimum what we want the year after if we don't qualify. I still think he will go to Real but just saying t {Ed002's Note - Firstly what is the incentive for him - why should he sign a contract with no guarantee that anyone will be spending such large amounts next summer? Well the incentive for him to sign such a deal to stay and play with his teammates who he has already let it be known are not good enough would be more money. How much more do you think Liverpool should pay him? Why not just hold him against his will, as we know he wants to leave, on the contract he already has in place? I think we will be dropping the "no player is bigger than the club" cliché if Suarez gets a new contract.}

Hi Eds. Are there any recent transfer developments in the last few days regarding Liverpool, that you have not mentioned (e.g. Ayew enquiry). Thanks. {Ed002's Note - I am not sure how Ayew is an example of me not telling you something given that I did tell you. You can be very confusing sometimes.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I read Ed002's input about Ayew.

He isn't coughing up the 3 Madrid players of which one or two might be offered as a make weight and the pending Suarez deal though. :)

Much love Ed's, it's almost over and the window goes away for a few months.

So what is it 8 days left of the transfer window and Real have yet to show their hand regarding Suarez, i'd be shocked if he stays but stranger things have happened. If he does leave we need to remember Rodgers can't replace Suarez but he can replace his goals. In both the Stoke and Villa game the team was crying out for a left winger, Sterling and Ibe aren't ready just yet so is Ayew the answer who knows. I wonder if Tom Ince is still in the managers mind.

I hope Tom Ince isn't. We are better than the likes of him and Moses.

Ed002's I posted on 14th August if you recall, about Suarez and the leaking of him possibly signing a new contract, it seems I was spot on, your last replies were, "What contract" and "I don't know what your talking about" You have just answered what I was talking about back then, I simply asked if he were to sign a new contract, what he would request to be put into his contract, i.e he can leave next year etc. just what you have posted earlier on another post (Suarez leaked to a friend etc. ) I can also reliably inform you that Rodgers is scouting a few at Cliftonville fc (irish champions) where he took rory donnelly to Swansea from. Your thoughts on the contract info ed, I don't post often but only when I am sure on the info. {Ed002's Note -I don't know of a new contract at this time and certainly not two weeks ago - all I am aware of regarding Suarez is the interest of Real Madrid, his continued desire to leave, approached by his representatives to other clubs and the latest information from him that has been "shared" with radio stations in Madrid and Montevideo.}

It never ceases to amaze me how often some media outlets are keen to downgrade the price for some of our talented players when clubs want them - I.E. Suarez for 25m, Agger for less than 10m as reported this morning and so on - Yet strangely if LFC show interest in any player then all of sudden the price reported triples - The latest for Will Hughes ranging from 3-6m now as high as 15m? Is it any wonder why clubs are constantly looking abroad for fresh young talent with preposterous rumours over evaluating British Talent! Seriously how may 10m - 15m potential transfers from small clubs actually pay off! Jeffers and R Wright / Chamberlain / Wickham / Bentley / Duff / Wright Phillips / Carroll / Downing / - Not many really and has the Ox or Walcott helped Arsenal win anything yet? Again anyone with any money or sense would steer clear of players from lower level sides until they too get a dose of realism! Unless your Real Madrid or responsible for Gareth Bale that it is! LOL

I think we all need to put the second half of the villa game into perspective.
A lot of people claiming how poor we were instead of acknowledging how well -a very young, hungry Aston Villa - played.
Lambert has them organised and playing well, they beat arsenal, and could have taken points off Chelsea easily.
I find it a bit disrespectful to them to just say we played badly, they played well.
They had the hardest start to the season and held their heads high and should be proud of themselves.
We got the three points and BR showed again he can adapt. Taking aspas off and reverting to a more standard, defensive 4 4 2, with Aly just ahead of Jose. Alt played his part as well, relieving pressure and showing some experience.
This performance reminded of me of some classic Rafa victories. Defend that lead.
United and Chelsea have won titles playing like this.
Give the guys on both teams more credit where it is due.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree! That was a good win yesterday against a very energetic team. And like all the other top teams, we take the points and move on. Thanking Mignolet and Toure for keeping us in the game!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Davey. spot on.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Davey in respect of we 'defended a winning position' which is an improvement from last year. We would have drawn the Stoke and Villa games last year, grinding a result out will give the players as much confidence as winning 4-0. Good mental strength and discipline was shown yesterday. We will need that against the Mancs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Also last two games, it's good to us finally beating the teams we have struggled against in previous seasons. A win is a win no matter how you gain it.

That`s how you get top 4, by beating all the teams you`re supposed to beat.

Hi E.D's, happy to be a member of this informative site (If you ignore all the fans 'in the know' obviously) and I think the signing up idea is great, means less abuse for you guys.

We have a little over a week to make new signings, I suspect we will sign Illori and then wait for the right purchase in January. I hope I'm wrong but I get the feeling a LW won't be signing due to a lack of quality players in that position on the market. Which is actually ridiculous because Turan could improve are side quite considerably.

Do you know if we hold even the remotest interest in Turan, and Lamela come to think of it, because either one of these signings could improve the squad. If I'm missing anything then I look forward to being surprised.

Great site E.D's and I hope Liverpool continue this good run of results. {Ed002's Note - Welcome, but you really need to read the posts or use the search function about these players - it really has been flogged to death.}

Any ideas why BR has not used all his subs in the games so far? Early season and need to try and avoid injuries and get squad fit? Sterling? Ibe? Alberto?
Also how can RM really afford to bid for Suarez when they are still paying for previous transfers (before world record Bale purchase)? {Ed002's Note - Real Madrid has more income than any other club in the world. I think we have found out what our plan B is. Plan A is to play Stevie in an attacking central midfield role and plan B is to play Stevie in a holding role alongside Lucas.

We do need another centre back just for cover if Dagger or Kolo get an injury or suspension. I would be happy to have Ed002's recommended target Llori.

If our number 7 is to stay another season and we could get Turan in we would should all be smiling.

We only saw a few minutes of him but Cissokho looks to be pretty useful. He has a real physical presence and he seemed to settle very quickly.

Brendan is building the side slowly but surely into something special.

After the great start to the season in the league it would be unbelievable for our momentum and confidence if we can win and keep a clean sheet against the mancs. It will start making other teams fear us again which will be immense. Although I realize its very unlikely for us to get that result and a draw would be good too but I would really like to see a do or die effort from the boys and inclusion of a marquee singing in the team for the mancs game to give us a boost and then who knows, any thing is possible

Anyways notts county is what's at hand and I would like us to play out a strong starting eleven and then make subs after we secure the match.

YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So you want a marquee signing, just to boost us for the Manc game? Who says we need any boosting?

A marquee signing that adds nothing to the team is not wanted by this club. Any statement of intent that needs to be made MUST be made ON THE FIELD because that is where it matters most and nowhere else.

One thing which I don't get is, why does BR not make those substitutions! Coutinho had a rough game apart from some good touches, Studge was good but looked weary in the final parts of the game. I was praying for Aspas to not get that second yellow. I just felt we should have brought in Allen long before he was actually brought in! Ed's, why does it seem to take longer for us to sign a player, than it does for other clubs.
We identify a position we need cover for. (ie CB)
We identify targets Papa, sakho, llori, toby.
We inquire about availability/price.
Weeks later we are still no closer to getting anyone.
Other clubs do the same process, but a few days later they've signed. {Ed002's Note - It takes Liverpool the same time as anyone else once an offer has been accepted. You speak of these targets like the club has been seriously interest ed in them.

As an example. The club has been trying to strike a deal for Ilori - but there remains a significant difference in valuation. If it comes to agreement being reached, then the deal will be concluded.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I need a car. Found a nice one. Willing to pay 1500$ but the owner won't go below 12000$. What do I do? Wait till the owner brings the price down or I move on.
Some however will suggest that I should go all out and borrow $40000 from the bank. And buy a $12000 car for $40000. Only so that I can be seen as making a statement of 'intent'.

Agree0 Disagree0

Excellent analogy. Just pay the inflated prices and ask questions later, all in the name of showing intent is the exact reason we are paying the price for KK`s transfer ditherings in the market. Statements of intent only matter when made on the field of play because that`s where it matters.

Hi guys,

Just a quick question out of curiosity. When Cissokho came on yesterday he seemed to go into the attacking wide left position, is this where Rogers sees the player or was it just to let him test the water a bit without being thrown straight into frantic defending for the closing moments of the game, or was it a tactic for Rogers to show the owners how thin that position is by playing a full back there? I'm probably over analysing it but just thought I'd ask. Thought he was decent enough though, got stuck right in which is good to see.

Cheers.

Morning EDS & Fellow Reds, Good win yesterday away at Villa, two games six points and two clean sheets so lots of positives on the result! However, although I am not wishing to be negative - yesterday also showed me that we still need to add strength to the team because with a couple of injuries or suspensions to our squad we will be light in certain key matches once the transfer window has closed! The Premier League nowadays has very few soft matches whereby you can play a team like for eg Southampton/Swansea/Sunderland away with no prolific striker or first team centre half and you will struggle to take points in these places! This has been our issue in the past and why the likes of Spurs, Man city and Chelsea are tallying more points with their bigger and more experienced squads! By signing another centre back (a complete/proven left sided midfielder and striker) would not just stabilise our obvious progress but potentially push us into that mix of teams either challenging for top three or four, rather than a battle for seventh! If Suarez leaves (and I hope not this late in the transfer window) and Sturridge gets injured! does anyone believe we would still be good enough? Villa were a better side in the second half yesterday despite playing their third competitive match in eight days and yet we were fresher and pretty much at full strength! Again I am not downbeat but we are approaching a critical week this week and if we can add one or two more quality signings and keep Luis then we have much to be optimistic about! Eds any slim chance BR can nick one or two from Chelsea on loan or indeed is there any truth in the Mata to Liverpool speculation -seems mighty unlikely to me! Thanks as always for your efforts and responses! {Ed002's Note - Chelsea might be open to a loan of Moses - another club has already proposed such a move.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2013 11:19:17
First of all, I really don't understand the criticism of players when we actually won a very hard away game. Everybody, when you win has to play their part. Its near on impossible to win games in the premier league when 1 or 2 players don't perform. Please leave the slagging of players to we at least get beat.

Secondly, it took us 14 games last season to get 16 points last year. Right up until the Christmas period. This has to be our first target as quickly as possible. Then any points after that will be a massive bonus.

Last of all. There is no doubt that our squad is still very light. We need at least 2 extra bodies to bolster the team and this is not in replacement of Suarez. We have shipped a lot of players out this season, sold on, on loan and also Coates long term injury and signed 4 players. If Suarez is sold then I would hope all the money would be used. If we get to the end of the season and we just miss out on a CL spot because we don't add to our squad then the blame lies solely at Fsg's door. Brendan has done a readonable job introducing a few kids last year and maybe a few more this season but you still need players who know the trade who can hopefully be relied on to do a job. Splash the cash Fsg. Its pointless adding to the squad in January when the horse has bolted. Cheers

The Irish Rover {Ed002's Note - So you think the owners train the team and decide on tactics? Why aren't you thanking them for yesterday?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Where do you get from my post about Fsg training the team or picking players? I will stand by my post. Rodgers has done ok with the team but he can't train players he hasn't got.Cast you mind back to how well Liverpool played when we got the extra 2 players in January. Would they have made the difference if we got them in the Summer. An extra 12 points in 18 games? I think it would have been quite easily possible and a £30 million windfall at the end ed. Like I said we are short on players. We have got rid of plenty over the 2 seasons and wages have been chopped but you can't expect Rodgers to do the job with one hand tied behind his back. This is the Summer of big spending ed. The last hurrah! Fsg should get involved. That is my opinion. Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - If you are going to hold the owners responsible for the club not getting fourth place, then give them the credit when the club win. Rodgers has had no shortage of money to spend - he does not have "one hand tied behind his back" - he got the job a little too soon but has the team playing well and winning games. He took the job on the promise of getting in to the Champions League and then tried to recover the situation in January with the money being pulled forward for Coutinho. Every summer for Liverpool has been the summer of "big spending" - you were told it could not continue. Getting rid of Suarez would give money to be spent. And FSG are involved - they have been taking the hit of £1M a week losses since they arrived. It is unsustainable.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Great response ed! There will always be money to spend BUT only on the right players and the right price and NOTHING more. If the player is worth extra effort then I think the owners should make the move possible. But us buying players after the clubs, agents, or players are moving the goalposts on prices and fees (Willian, Siqueira, Sigurdsson, HM and so on) is not the right way to go and LFC should no longer stand those shananigans any longer. let's support the owners and BR and quit berating them when a signing doesn`t come off. YNWA!

Great first half yesterday, possibly the best 45 min this season of any of the Prem teams, and Liverpools best 45 for a long time. The balance of the side looks very good with Lucas and Gerrard bossing midfied. Toure was top draw and Min in goal pulled of some great saves.
A bit concerning second half, but I think that was down to the amount of work we went through in the first half, Henderson Gerrard and Lucas looked a little fatigued. However we must remember this is only the second game of the season and the fitness will come, where we will be able to put the first half performance into 90 mins.
What was apparent was when we needed replacements for the second half the bench looked a little light. The club I feel need to support the manager with a couple more signings just to give us an experienced back up to shore up game like this. What was needed yesterday was a didi hamman or Alonso figure to come on and settle the team when games get a bit frantic.

Great performance and 2 good wins, these games bring character and a winning mentality, a draw or win against the Mancs and we will all be very happy chappies.

Doesn't there seem to be a strong team environment building and a closeness with the players, all good so far.

After two games I think it's clear that mignolet and toure are amongst the best signings we've made the past few years, toure won 75% of duels and 66% of aerial duels and people saying he couldn't compete with Benteke in the air who won only around 42% of aerial duels, had a fantastic two games shame he's 32 he may retire in as little as 2 years.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If he looks after himself he could go on til he's 36/37 so I think there is plenty left in the tank.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree. We now have a really good keeper who has already saved us 4 points. Loved Pepe but his game had dipped.

Benteke near post shot yesterday was exactly the kind of shot reina was letting in last year. Teams targeted the near post knowing this weakness.

Had reina been in goal we might have come away with a point instead of 3. Mignolet has already earned us points in both games. A smart acquisition

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So Reina's weakness was the near-post saves?

Reina is still a class keeper and every keeper has weaknesses.

Mingolet still has plenty to learn so let's not get premature.

Reina's distribution is excellent - Mingolets is dodgy at times. Get me?

Was it not Mingolet that allowed Suarez to rocket in that near-post goal last season? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Let's just wait and see but there is no doubting his potential.

Agree0 Disagree0

Davey I agree with what your saying every keeper has weaknesses but Suarez's rocket shot was from 2 yards out.

Agree0 Disagree0

Davey, you must have a short memory. Reina has been beaten so often at his near post that its not even funny. FA Cup final against Chelsea (Ramires), CL QF against Arsenal (Diaby), and last year against Arsenal at Anfield (Carzola) just off the top of my head. Reina is a good keeper but his mistakes of the past 2-3yrs and his flirting with Barca are the reasons he is no longer here and we now have a keeper who is MUCH better than he is at the moment and has potentially won us 4 points already this year. Awesome, right?

Morning eds
Was really pleased with yesterday, poor second half but if anything that is a positive, we all know we can play better than that but getting results in a bad day is what good teams do and something we havnt done for a couple of years now.
Was just thinking about the team for midweek and some possible changes and when you look to give some of the players who generally play all game every game a rest in the cup Lucas would be one of those. It just got me thinking of who could replace him in our current squad? I know Allen could technically play there but he isn't the same type of player he is much more a playmaker than a defensive midfielder. Is there anyone (including promising youth) who would describe themselves as a defensive midfielder as their best position? If not I think this should be more a priority than attacker or cb as we literally only have Lucas at least at cb we have wisdom, Kelly, toure, agger, skrtel and good youth and in attack we still have Suarez, borini, sterling, ibe, assiadi and Alberto who havnt featured at all
Cheers

I said to myself I would be happy with 7 points form 9 in the first 3 games not saying we can't beat united but last season the first 2 games would have ended in draws I reckon, Delighted with the start. Still feel we need that extra bit of quality up top though.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I am more thinking that we need defensive cover, if Toure or Agger injured we have wisdom but we lack experienced cover .

Agree0 Disagree0

Kobi your forgetting about Skrtel. but Skrtel will probably be sold and Sakho in to replace him. then we might get Tiago Ilori in then send Wisdom out on loan. (by the time Toure leaves one of Wisdom or Tiago will be ready.) {Ed002's Note - Ilori will be over the moon at that no doubt.}

Hey Ed nothing is guaranteed if Tiago Ilori comes here he has to know there are players ahead of him and that he has to put in work to get first team spot. {Ed002's Note - You think he is going to wait until Toure retires for a chance? The suggestion is nonsense.}

All this talk of signing a new contract by suarez is just a way for him to sort out the mess his agent made. His contract will now have the release clause in it which will allow him to move to a CL club if we fail to make it this year. As for new signings I don't believe BR will be funded so we have to play with what we got and if i'm honest I don't think that will be enough to get us in a CL position. Great site eds what's your thoughts?

{Ed002's Note - I don't see any point in my giving a view about Suarez being offered a nice, new contract. Liverpool are certainly still looking at players (as I have explained repeatedly) and if a deal can be done for the right player at the right price then funding will be there (as I have explained on a daily basis for the past nine months). As for the Champions League, as I have explained repeatedly, I think it will be tough but should not be discounted completely - but certainly I expect Liverpool to be in the mix for the lower-tier European places.}

Squad I would like to see for this window! I'd love to pinch Lamela and perhaps get a massive surprise signing like Mata Sanchez or Ozil. Don't rule it out if Suarez is sold! Haha I know I'm dreaming!

Outs:
Pacheco
Skrtel 10m
Suarez 55m
Assaidi

Loan: Wisdom Texxeria McLaughlin Sama

Targets:
RB CB: Alderwerield 5m
RW AM LW: Lamela 30m
RW AM LW: Sanchez 26m

Hi everyone,

A nerve shredding last 45 mins yesterday! What is great to see is that we now look capable of grinding out a tough result. This is exactly what let us down last year and 6 points from 6 is something we haven't done since 2008!

Feeling really positive about this season and we still have suareZ to come back!

Morning Eds and Reds

After 9 games only conceding one goal Our defence is better organise looks a lot stronger. Only weak point is Glen going forward ok but a bit suspect defending. With Skirtle not in team also coates injured we need at two CB Sakho, alderwereld or Iloris should be better replacements. If Suares does not leave he should play LW with Coutingho behind Sturridge,
We need a goal scoring LW/ ST/AM to compliment what we have at the moment.Our team play and setup looking very good.

Thanks Eds

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thought the whole point of buying "versatile" forwards is so you do not have fixed LW, RW, STR and AM? Can't Sturridge, Aspas, Suarez, Coutinho rotate across the 4 positions within games? Hendo in for Aspas if we need more protection for Glen?

Hey eds and reds, different kind of post here do you guys think that Sturridge will do an Owen if he keeps up this form? Or even just leave for a title contender In some league or the EPL. I could honestly see him staying for a long time, maybe for 7-8 more years. I hope he does, he's so underrated. Hope he becomes an Anfield favorite. Hope both Coutinho and Sturridge do.

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what doing "an Owen" is. I thought Michael Owen was at the club for many, many years scoring a hundred or more goals?}

Suarez to join Bayern Munich for a fee believed to be in the region of 60m. Madrid can't afford both bale and suarez and bale is their NO.1 target. Suarez knows this and Pep wants him at Allianz.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Really? I am afraid that it just doesn't make sense for Bayern to be interested in Suarez. Just take a look at the cracking players in their team. What do they need Suarez for?

Slightly embarrassed by the amount of people that watched motd and heard Alan's and Harry's ' rumour about Luis signing a new contract and then coming on here and passig it off as there own opinion.
Same thing happened when ed02 made a comment about an enquiry about Ayew, suddenly people had sources who knew about It.
come on guys. You are better then that.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's all psychological. After going through the daily grind, everyone wants to feel special. The internet and a board like this is an avenue for that. I honestly see nothing wrong in it. The fun part is that we all know most of the ITK stuff from posters is made-up. They know we know. They just don't care and they know we don't care either.

Just a quick question who do you expect to sign or an Attempt to sign

Alderwield and eriksen
(if Suarez is sold in exchange) Ozil and benzema
Turan and a sakho

This is my first post please could you give me a scale out of 10 as these have all popped up recently in rumours {Ed002's Note - Welcome. We are not going to be doing any out of 10 answers J. Stoke and Villa. Before it would be 6 from 6 no doubts but with recent history I think it is a good return. Toure only gave Benteke a sniff the whole game and his attitude and the way he seems to organise around him makes him look, regardless of what might come in, the best signing we'll make this summer. Agree we do need a little bit more quality but will not argue with how fsg and transfer committee are trying to recruit. How bad would it have been if it was us who stumped up the extra 3m cash and got gazumped by chelsea for Willian. Believe that adding to the group will lead to better things than one big name. sturridge, couthinho and toure already show that. other signings will come good too. Just my opinion, squad is being built to change the team to handle different games.

Hi Edds, is there any news on moves for Arda Turan or Andre Ayew. Liverpool need a right winger by the end of the transfer window, expecially with Jordan Henderson being deployed in that position. {Ed030's Note - If we need a right winger I doubt we will be getting Turan or Ayew mate,They play on the left.Although Turan is pretty versatile.

Good win for the team and really important to get a good start for sure.

Peronally thought we were immense first half and pretty bad second, but I think we all agree to that.

Johnson good in places but wish he would stop doing the silly dangerous things he does like trying to beat a man just outside our area or playing a tiny side pass in a congested area and losing the ball applying more pressure!

Apart from that though most players had good game. Lucas wasnt at his best, nor did allen do great but everyone has a less than perfect game.

Toure was excellent for most of game and only a couple of times left Benteke too much room but then most defenders in the world would have not done better at all against him as he is such a handfull. He reminds me of a young Drogba but with even more potential

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thought Lucas was great! And his passing game is comming together too.

Phooey

Agree0 Disagree0

Lucas was treading water in the 2nd half. i'm a fan but he was below par to the point were I thought he was carrying an injury. He got a bit lazy in picking up players as well, very unlike him. What worries me most is his lack of pace, fantastic servant but is that going to be to the detriment of progress if we don't replace him eventually?

Hi, just curious if any clubs have an interest in adam lallana as every time I see him play he seems to make the southampton team tick over and is a very skillful player. I don't believe Liverpool hold any interest, or even believe he would fit our squad, but would like to know if other teams have enquired with his club or agent. Thanks {Ed002's Note - A question for the Southampton page.}

We sat back a bit in the second half and nearly cam unstuck - but to be brutally frank if they had of equalised we had more than enough to step up 2 gears and take a second goal. Sturridge took a beaut of a goal. - but his work around the pitch should not be overlooked. Mignolet looks the part and has got 6 years of getting better and better in front of him. A rather scrappy 0-1 it may well have been, but it's still three points. Bring on the mancs.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

24 Aug 2013 23:44:06
It was scrappy, it was ugly, it was 3 points.
Aston Villa are a team gifted with pace in attacking areas, and are beginning to use that to fantastic effect on the counter attack, so we got the goal in the first half, and spent the second sitting back, ensuring they couldn't hit us on the break. It was a risky strategy, but the right one, .well performed, apart from the odd chance for Villa toward the end. They seemed unable to brake us down, a lot like we did at times last season, and we defended from the front. What we will find out next week is whether or not we can combine the fluid attacking play we saw against Stoke, with the gritty defensive performance we saw today, If we can, and can keep Van Persie out of the game like we did Benteke today, we may have a chance at all 3 points. If not, we may struggle for 1. Hopefully there's a new face or 2 in that period, and Agger can begin to hit some form. He looked a bit out of sorts again today.

hi eds, just watching MOTD and hansen seems to think suarez will sign a new contract this week any thruth in the matter? {Ed002's Note - Suarez has let a little information out via a "friend" to say the he will stay against his will one more year and then he will leave regardless. This sort of situation cannot be allowed to carry on but I think it will become more difficult to find a buyer with this sort of leakage of information to the media. We'll see.}

How was Lucas poor today, I'm sorry but he breaks up every single attack and starts a new one his interceptions and tackles are priceless in breaking down teams and he alone stopped the supply to Bemteke. He doesn't go around making big challenges but his positional sense is such that he doesn't need to! He is absolute quality and without him we won't make top four so we better keep him fit. Maybe a few misplaced passes in the second half but we were under pressure and everyone was finding it hard to retain possession. Sorry just I can't sit back and watch him be called poor today after what I thought was a brilliant performance from him? Eds do you know why so many seem not to rate him just because he goes round his work quietly I suppose? {Ed001's Note - you don't see what he does, because he does it well. If he was useless and sprinting about everywhere trying to get back into position, it would look good when you are just following the ball.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree Matt, his work rate was very good and he bridges the gap between the defenders and attacking players so seamlessly that if often goes unnoticed.
A good indicator of how well he does his job is the fact that he's almost never out of position. When we attack it can be so easy for a DM to be drawn to the box or goal scoring positions, but he never does. People might say what's wrong with that? Nothing, if you don't mind getting caught on the break.
What Lucas does so well is build pressure when we attack by making it harder for the defending team to break out through the middle of the park, so if they do get out and are in transitional play, they are forced to go wide which slows down their attack enough for us to get into good defensive shape. In defense, his anticipation is a key aspect of his game, allowing him to attempt and make more interceptions, and if he does have to tackle they are usually very good (thought he was unlucky with the card).
When all is said and done, he's going to be very important for us this season and the work he does should never be underestimated. Of course he's going to make the odd error, but who doesn't? And in his position, where he sees so much of the ball each game, the odd error, per game, isn't a bad return.

Agree0 Disagree0

He was treading water at times in the second half, looked like he was carrying a knock. Hope so cause he was bad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with both of you generally about Lucas. I did not think he had a good second half at all but then I do not think any player did, but he is reliable and like you said extremely professional in terms of the job he needs to do, both positionally and mentally never getting dragged somewhere he shouldn't, and by doing this he is constantly limiting danger.
A good DM needs to be able to read the game very well, almost like wacthing the game from 3rd point perspective and being able to see where the danger lies

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely agree Matt, Lucas is phenomenal, he is the lynchpin that ties the team together as we attack and defend as a unit. He had a great 35 minutes spell in the first half but his performance slightly waned off as the match went on. Matt the only reason you see people complaining is because we have come to expect Lucas performing to his usual high standard which he did not do tonight for the whole game.
That being said any player can have a tough day at the office, they are human after all, right?
Lucas's human performance is one of the very few reasons the moaning herd are going to stick to and try to blast the team despite winning. Get behind the team lads!
I am totally chuffed with the three points, do not care how we got them but oh yeah we did!

I am a bit surprised that BR is moaning about needing a winger after missing out on Willian. He must have thought he was in the bag. We have just let Downing go for peanuts. Surely we had a back up plan. Although rarely exciting, Downing did a decent job. It now looks like a very poor decision if he really wants Coutinho more central.

Also hearing Barca to offer £10m for Agger. I thought they offered £15m before? Odd.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Barca can just go away. Agger for 35m pounds. Then, we will sell. We, according to some rumours, just rejected 12m for Skrtel

Next weekend is more of a must not lose game rather than a must win game.
Of course I would love to beat the mancs but I would not to be too disappointed with a draw.
I would play a 4-4-1-1 line up. Sturridge to start with Coutinho in behind. Danny can frighten Ferdinand and Vidic with his pace whilst Coutinho can use his trickery to open the door.
A little unsure which 4 to play across midfield but Henderson has earned himself a place on the right and Cissokho as left winger? unless of course the marquee signing is made before Sunday.
