Hi eds great job as always. Just a quick one I'd love to see us stump up the cash for lacasette in the summer. Looks a top player. Wats your take on him as a player? And who looks most likely to get his signature.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - He is a decent player. I cannot sensibly answer most likely questions. I can tell you who is interested if I know.}

25 Jan 2015 23:51:15
Thanks Ed who are the clubs taking with Lyon for him?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Roma, Manchester City, Newcastle, PSG and Inter have recently enquired about Lacazette but Lyon has no intention of selling in January. Manchester City have moved on to buy Bony and now need to be making space but are still interested in Lacazette. Spurs, Arsenal and Valencia have had the player watched.}

Hello eds,

Just 2 small questions. Minor business to conduct in the window.

Gk, we might be waiting for matt ryan to end participating on the asían cup to sign him?

Mf, waiting on final day to get James milner, know that we are interested?

Depending always i guess. if balotelli and lucas leave.

A striker maybe? Gameiro?

Thoughts. Please

Believable1 Unbelievable1

If we replace Lucas with Milner that will be as bad a piece of business as renewing Johnsons contract.

Agree6 Disagree3

Agree, Milner is not a defensive midfielder, Lucas is. They are not interchangeable or like for like in terms of position.

Although I understand Milner can play as a utility man, effectively in a number of positions I'd have thought these are more so attacking or out wide, not defensive midfield through the middle protecting our back line, that just wouldn't be fair on him. LoL

I'm not against signing Milner to play in his better positions though, I think he'd be an excellent squad member and has a great work ethic (the guy doesn't drink alcohol) with good experience of every competition we are likely to be in. A player who I think has gotten better with age, remembering him as a Leeds youth, then the Newcastle headless chicken days before doing very well for Villa and then making his City move and he's managed to stay relevant among all their big signings where many others maybe haven't. He must graft like a work horse in training.

Agree2 Disagree0

I'm not a fan, he's very pedestrian and workmanlike, that he's an England regular says more about the state of attacking players available for England than any reflection of quality. Besides, the only good free transfer we've ever had was Marcus Babbel. Ever. Just don't see what he has to offer for the ridiculous wages that we'd have to pay out.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 21:49:48
How do we go about our mass fixtures in February then gang?
I'd simply prioritise our best chances of winning, so if we beat Chelsea, I wouldn't mind Bolton knocking us out of the FA cup,
Alternatively, with all the teams knocked out Saturday, going on to beat Bolton could give us a great chance to make it far.
Should we get knocked out of both domestic cups, I'd like us to try our best in the Europa league,
Fortunately, we'll know where we sit cup wise pretty soon,

When alls said and done, I think we need to take a 'wait and see approach'. What's undoubtably true is that winning the carling cup, no matter how it's perceived would give the boys massive confidence, and as we saw last season, this group of players almost literally fly when confidence is high.

3 cup runs did ok for us in the treble season didn't it? We still qualified for Champs League.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

25 Jan 2015 23:45:12
I'd love a win in the Europa, especially if top 4 could be a struggle for us this season!

Agree2 Disagree0

Dream ending. FA cup final. Finish 5th behind United but win the Europa cup. Obviously I'd take 4th but if we finished 5th imagine how amazing that would be. United relying on us to get beat

Agree1 Disagree0

PerthRed, I hate to burst your bubble, but I think I'm right in saying that even if an English team wins the Europa League and finishes outside the top 4, the team in 4th still gets a Champions League qualifier spot. I would like to seek the Eds clarification on this though.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - if I remember correctly, this year the team in 4th does, but next year and for the forseeable future they won't.}

I was sure it was from season 14/15

Agree0 Disagree0

Uh boo. If we won it and finished fish then we would get 5 teams in. that's a bit crap

Agree0 Disagree0

If we finish fish it will be a bit carp

Ed do we have do we have firm interest in Ter Stegan on loan from Barca?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Why would Barcelona loan him out when they cannot replace him?}

Fair point, deft question really I suppose.

25 Jan 2015 20:59:07
Hi ed01 can I ask ...................

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - We are not interested in discussing any of that.}

25 Jan 2015 20:57:20
eds, have you heard of any interest in Sergio Diaz?, the young paraguayan. some journos in south america seem to believe we may be set to bid

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - UTSF.}

Luckily for you ed, you don't need to see the future, when asked a 'have you heard' question

Agree3 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 19:46:53
Question for either Ed002 or Ed001. Do you know when FSG's reported review of the club will be finished, and do you expect (or in Ed001's case, want) Rodgers to be sacked come the end of the season? I am sorry if these questions have been answered recently, I searched but couldn't find anything.

Thanks a lot

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It really has been done to death.}

25 Jan 2015 22:54:57
In business, reviews are an on-going thing. To stand still is to die.

Hi Eds still reading love the site quick question, If Rodgers gets top four and win a cup do you think he will keep his job, or is the damage done thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Done to death.}

25 Jan 2015 22:57:09
Personally I reckon not only is he dead in the water but that he knows it. I reckon he will just concentrate on trying to go out on a high so his CV looks good.

Agree2 Disagree2

25 Jan 2015 23:12:47
Theres no way 'he's dead in the water'. Top 4, without a cup, and he'd keep his job. A cup would be a bonus. He needs some serious PR work, and a defensive coach and we'd be set to challenge again next season.

Agree2 Disagree1

Lenin is right on the money!

Agree2 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 07:55:25
Bacon - his PR work is the problem. He needs to worry less about PR and more about results!

Agree1 Disagree0

Rodgers has no flaws other than his teeth:)
He looks like Martin Short in Innerspace.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 18:22:55
Yeah hjickle, he needs to keep his mouth shut, is basically what I mean.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 18:39:26
ED001, is the lack of transfer activity due purely to funds and squad size? Just wondered if with these rumours of Rodgers going, the top to bottom inquest carried out its purely down to leaving the squad in tact and funds for the new coach?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is what was always expected. If Liverpool are to do anything it will be fairly minor in nature.}

You saying neither comment relates to the activity this window and was always going to be quiet regardless?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It was always going to be quiet.}

25 Jan 2015 17:47:28
One thing I haven't seen discussed at all, is the price of the apparently outgoing Lucas,
I know the Eds don't like discussing numbers but I found it odd that I've not seen any numbers bandied about at all.
My guess (or hope) would be no less than at least £15 million, but that is a number pulled out of the air,
Could be half of that knowing our outstanding set of negotiators.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

25 Jan 2015 18:13:04
It won't be nothing like that. Italian clubs don't have the money and it is Lucas who actively wants to leave. until a month or so go, LFC and BR were very open to move him on.

I am thinking it will be closer to £5 million.

Agree6 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 18:16:01
What is there to negotiate if the club doesn't want to, or have to, sell him?

Agree2 Disagree0

He's mostly been linked with a loan away so maybe that's why no prices? I'd take no less then £20m. Honest. He's a Brazil International, he's quality and well regarded as a pro, think he's at prime age with around 5 seasons left at top level.
When you look at fees for players link Obi Mikel and the year that was paid, Illaremndi to Madrid, Fernando to City as examples. Plus the cost to replace. What is Schniderlin at Southampton worth?

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Another great example as to why we do not discuss money.}

€7 million i think.

Agree2 Disagree3

Letting Lucas go is crazy unless we have someone lined up

Moving Can up would be ok as I have no confidence in Allen but at as we're performing better would you welcome Lovern back in defence. .

Agree5 Disagree0

Lucas is worth far more to us, in my opinion, than we would ever get for him. That said, when you only give a player 640 minutes on the pitch from January until the end of November, it's hardly surprising they'd want out and sadly it seems to have taken a lot of poor results before Brendan seems to have appreciated what Lucas brings to the side. Maybe BR sees it now, but given his track record I doubt it and either way it may well be too little too late. Players want to play, not be 'depth'.

Agree6 Disagree0

How is what I said a great example? Any depth to your one line throwaway comment?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You are making up numbers which are laughable.}

Ah, but according to the Daily Mail. Glenn Johnson has signed a new 3 year deal.

We don't need the likes of Lucas and Sterling.

We have Johnson, Allen and Rodgers !

Agree0 Disagree0

Whih is why we are where we are, Yuri. Chasing away quality and potntial (Lucas and Sus) and rewarding mediocrity and uselessness like GJ and Enrique.

Agree2 Disagree0

Redohio

Agreed !

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 02:30:08
I don't understand why the figures he's quoting are laughable. Gareth bales transfer figure is laughable but that's what he was worth to Madrid amd a little more than what he was worth to Spurs. I rate Lucas very highly. And I would have him in my squad before any other Do in the league except maybe matic. Players are only worth what someone is willing to pay. Would I pay 20mill for Lucas? YES!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - but his price is not what you would pay, it is based on length of contract, desire of player to leave, willingness of club to sell etc.}

Yeah I understand that. But in terms of value for money when it comes to a DM then Lucas is bound to be tip when it comes to the premier league. I'd hate to think what they get paid at city, United and chelski

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't worry though, if lucas goes that will no doubt cheer up some of you lucas haters out there and remember we still have that giant among centre midfielders, Joe Allen. You know I really need to reign in this sarcasm thing.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 17:34:23
A CHALLENGE.

IF, and it's a big if, we beat Chelsea and progress on Tuesday, will all the Brendan Haters promise to give him some credit afterwards?

Even if it's by being civil towards our lads at least until Wednesday?

How about it?

Believable4 Unbelievable3

25 Jan 2015 17:49:00
Sure I'll give him credit for beating Chelsea. I'll say "well done Rodgers, good job tonight. You really stuck it to Mourinho".

However, as long as he continues to alienate and misuse senior players, display an almost amusing lack of planning and forward thinking (Can playing RCB and Markovic at RWB whilst Andre Wisdom is on loan at West Brom, for example), fail to coach our defence, ignore any worthwhile youth player we have, underachieve with a squad that has way more talent than they've been credit for this season, and bring in strikers that make Voronin look like 1996 vintage Robbie Fowler, I'll still want him to leave.

I'll just keep quiet about it because of reasons of decorum, yeah? That okay?

Agree4 Disagree4

25 Jan 2015 18:17:04
"Brendan Haters"? I have been critical of BR and I have explained my reasons very clearly.

Regardless of whether we get past Chelsea or not are you prepared to challenge yourself and accept the mistake BR has made?

Agree8 Disagree3

Tough. Cause I agree with both, everything about Rodgers lack of learning, youth introduction, plans for loan players, lies to players and his constant foot in mouth won't go away with a cup final place.
Don't actually hate Rodgers, just dislike a lot of his choices.
We win the league cup and finish top 4. I'd say still let him leave, but leaving us with a good platform for a better level of manager to take us forward, cause tbh he can't.

Look at him like Borini, certainly cares, would love to do well and succeed at Liverpool, gives 100% but just lacks that something which separates the good from the great. Nobody dislikes Borini but can all see he's just not good enough, won't score the goals we need and would do both parties better if went seperate ways this summer.

BTW, I like Borini. Wish he'd do well, but if we have the option to sell and bring in Lacazette or Benzema.

Agree2 Disagree2

Such anger - I don't get that really something red. I think we might be on the same side. But I get the feeling you would rather us lose so you can pour your anger onto this forum. The trouble is I'm pretty certain that even if we do beat Chelsea then someone will moan. I honestly believe that people are not very nice here. I enjoy a good discussion, one that is constructive, but people have agendas here that are complete and formed. Last season we played our best football for twenty years, I was sold.

I cannot apologise for the loyalty towards Brendan that has arisen in me because of last season. Now we see glimpses of that team returning and it's exciting. It's a shame others are fickle. I wouldn't want to be in the trenches with half of you lot.

The last post I will ever post.

Agree2 Disagree1

With Soething and AG, for sure! Being critical of BR for his glaring blunders, his being arrogant, self-serving and alienating of players along w/ lying to the owners and chasing good players out of the club YET rewarding mediocrity (GJ getting a new contract is rank incompetence) does not make u haters. It makes us aware of the probs he has caused and how they have cost us this season. Woy and KK didn`t do this much YET got the sack so why should BR`s fate be any different? If we progressed, then BR has done nothing else but doing the right thing, what he`s handsomely paid to do. HIS JOB!

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 23:04:48
Well, tbh, between your attitude and login name, I suspect your a regular making a once off WUM account because he doesn't want to have to stand over his comments with his regular screen name anyway.

But if we're being serious here, you can't give BR credit for nearly winning the league last season (this 1-man team business that some people come out with is nonsense. Suarez wouldn't have scored the 31 goals that nearly propelled us to a league title without the players around him and the way they were coached to play) and then overlook errors he makes. He either has the responsibility for how the team performs or he doesn't. He can't have it when the going is good and not have it when things are bad. Or vice versa, for that matter.

My real issue with Rodgers is his management of players. If he keeps going the way he's going, we're always going to be 1 or 2 men (and that's how close we are, btw) short of a title winning team, because players with the potential to be brilliant will be misused, alienated and will leave. So as one missing piece is brought in, a different piece will go. Lucas is the best example. The change in our results since he returned to the side is very obvious. But he was made feel unwanted and we almost certainly won't have him next season as a result. Can, his nominal replacement, is on his way to being a world class player, but not at defensive midfield, imo. Best outcome I can see we'll end up spending £12m on someone who'll basically do the same job. Sakho's another one, he's been one of our best players in the last few games, but Rodgers only recalled him because he literally has no other option available to him to field three center backs. He may leave in the summer too. Rodgers also tried to sell Henderson, who likely be our club captain next season, for £7m when he arrived. He's not going to keep getting away with that stuff.

And for me to pretend that's not happening over one result would make me a liar and a hypocrite. So I'm sorry, bro, I'm not going to do it.

Agree3 Disagree1

25 Jan 2015 23:07:22
Oh and fyi, I've kept my opinions to myself more often than not when we've lost this season, because I reckon people are in foul enough humour already.

Agree0 Disagree1

25 Jan 2015 23:26:31
Redohio, under woy we paid turgid football and Kenny (legend) seemed to lose his way, I still didn't want him to lose his job mind.
Under Rodgers, he seems to be making inexplicable blunders but we do seem to progressing (if our current form continues). You cannot lose sturridge and Suarez and expect to be on the same level. IMPOSSIBLE.
I agree with all about youth players, arrogance over lack of DF coach, transfers (although we have a committee so can't be his fault entirely. surely??), GJ, and his all-round David Brent esque.

But ever the optimist I'm hopeful, that him being a young manager, he can fix these imperfections and continue to manager us beyond this season. Because bottom line is we are playing better football and he did get us second last year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well Extra, It doesn`t matter what you or I want however, it DOES matters, wht is best for LFC. The bottom line is as Something red gas said above, you cannot give him credit for getting us back into reckoning last year (which will always b to his credit) and then not having him take the blame for all his well-documented, unforced and avoidable blunders. By doing that, you are acting like BR meaning, trying to have it both ways. I want y club to succeed regardless of who the manager is and that is the bottom line. If you wanna willfully ignore his blunders, his mismanagement of commited players (Suso, Sahko, Lucas), neglect of our academy youngsters, wastefulness in the TW et al just because we are playing slightly better (based on the opposition, that is debatable) then by all means, HAVE AT IT. But stop with the moral lectures and the pointless idea that we are haters because we refuse to be hypocrites and oblivious to his failings. I love my club (my newborn son will be an LFC fan, for sure) and will not take moral lectures from those who would rather focus on the positives at the expense of cold, hard facts which state that BR is starting to cost the club money and credibility and the owners will NO LONGER tolerate his incompetence and mismanagement of players and transfer funds because we do NOT have the money nor time to rectify his blunders so we cut bait now, IMO. If firing BR is the best thing for LFC`s future then like KK, Woy and Rafa, SO BE IT and I`m good with that because NO MAN is bigger than the club. Are you?

Agree1 Disagree0

We're playing better football because we're not playing the way he tried to get the team to play. If I break something, then fix what I broke, do I get credit for being a brilliant repairman?

Agree2 Disagree0

RDL. You do in my house.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 18:30:57
Red, if I say we should keep BR for one more season. You hear that I'm; calling you a 'hater' and on some moral crusade?

Agree0 Disagree0

Apologies Extra, I was referring to CHangemynappy w/ the "hater" part part of my comment.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 17:24:10
Hi ED hope all is well mate and thanks again for all the hard work you ED's do .

I've watched BR interview and he's comments on Mario Balotelli and I must say he's been honest and truthful not wrong with that I think your to hard on BR and strongly think LFC will be making a big mistake getting rid of him if anyone needs to go let's start with Ian Ayre and some other in the transfer committee.

YNWA

Believable4 Unbelievable3

FYI, he is part of the transfer commitee and BTW, allowed the Balo deal to go through when he could have stopped it but didn`t YET had the power to stop the Remy deal. BR is the sole responsible for our on-field issues so I would suggest that you not pay too much attention to his self-serving interviews because NOTHING is ever his fault. A man who has a reason and an excuse for everything CANNOT be trusted because he is accountable and takes responsibility for NOTHING. FACT!

Agree3 Disagree1

25 Jan 2015 16:31:42
Rodgers said before the game Rossiter would be involved, nice one Brendan. Even though it's nothing new it's so irritating when he just spouts lies and rubbish in press conferences. Sitting on the bench and watching the game for 90 mins does not count as "involved" imo. Rossiter would have done far more than Allen, I would go as far to say that 17 year old kid is stronger than Allen. I'm just praying we start to see youngsters introduced and players like Allen Enrique and Johnson sold.

Believable7 Unbelievable5

25 Jan 2015 17:28:58
That's a bit moaning for the sake of moaning!!!

Agree3 Disagree9

It's not moaning for the sake of it, Allen was awful.

Agree8 Disagree3

25 Jan 2015 18:19:28
Not in my opinion, when are we going to these youngsters used because they haven't been used in any competition this season consistently. The big chance we have is to blood these youngsters in the Europa league and I'm hoping Rodgers will do that but he seems so reluctant. It's clear Enrique has no long term future at the club so why is he playing? Give Smith a go and see what he can do rather than a player who shows little effort and will almost certainly be leaving in the summer. I'm not suggesting we blood youngsters all over the place but Rossiter has a right to be miffed if Rodgers says he will play and then goes back on it.

Agree3 Disagree0

Agree Thomo. Allen is just woeful, offers nothing. Would love to see Rossiter or any youth CM ahead of the Welsh Xavi.

Agree6 Disagree2

25 Jan 2015 20:43:24
Not great but Awful!!!!?

Agree0 Disagree1

You`re wasting your time moaning about his useless, self-serving conduct w/ the media. Like his mentor Mou, don`t pay too much attention to his utterances in the media because for Mou, he`s being bland and manipulative with the media but he can do that because he`s won a lot in his career. For BR, he`s being a flake and a self-serving politician who says what you want to hear but lacks the cojones to follow thru. PATHETIC!

Agree1 Disagree1

I don't think you can berate Brendan for indicating Rossiter might get some game time and then changing his mind - we hadn't scored and Bolton was looking more and more dangerous. It couldn't potentially have had a negative impact on both him and the team if they'd scored (even if it wasn't his fault, not a good situation for a youngster to be thrown into for potential criticism).

Where I do have a problem is playing Can out of position to accommodate GJ (when we also obviously have Lovren on hand) and switching up too many players in midfield in the starting lineup, using 3 weaker options in Allen, Manquillo, Enrique.

Agree1 Disagree1

Well put, Zimbo. Like you, I think Can is being played out of position. Because he can play CB doesn`t mean he is a CB and will be found out against better strikers than those we have faced so far. For me, he is a B2B midfielder next to Hendo or Lucas.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 15:43:02
Good news!!!
Fabian delph has signed a new contract at Aston villa. Which means that (hopefully) we'll never see that very average plodder in a Liverpool shirt

Believable20 Unbelievable1

Dodged a bullet there. He`s aweful which is another confirmation of BR`s uselessness in the TM and his evaluation of talent. Getting shot of Lucas while his replacements (SG, JA and Delph) are not even good enuff to shine his boots at the DM position is one of the many reasons the owners will be rid of him due to such gross incompetence in this area and several othrs, IMO.

Agree1 Disagree1

Totally agree Ohio.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 15:01:45
Rossiter has been talked about quite abit lately on here so sorry for bringing him up again but yesterday gave me the worry of him becoming another spearing undoubtably rossiter has far greater ability but his problem will be his height. He doesn't lack for heart and determination and he doesn't shirk the 50/50s even against much larger opponents but what if he starts to look like allen when he's playing again men? Hopefully Can and Hendos size may mean the can 'babysit' him for a while if they all get to play together but that would be my one concern and let's face it he's only 17 he could grow another ft this year but if he doesn't it may be his downfall. What do you think 001 is it a worry?

Believable2 Unbelievable4

Well if he starts to look like Allen then he won't be the player some posters think he will be and he won't deserve a place on the team.

Agree1 Disagree0

Xavi, Iniesta, Modric are all small central midfield players and they've done just fine. If Rossiter is good enough he'll play regardless of his stature. And I'm sure he'll develop his physique and get stronger with age as he's just a kid.

Agree6 Disagree0

Joe Allen is about 5'5"-5'6" and Rossiter is 5'9 ish? So he's a bit taller, but also he is still growing, he's not 18 yet remember. Rossiter is stronger than Allen by a long way and does like a tackle.

Agree0 Disagree1

Rossiter and the rest of the youngsters hae NO chance of making it at LFC as long as there is a manager who constantly lies to the media that they will play YET ever see the field.

Agree1 Disagree1

He said he'd be 'involved' in the squad and sat on the bench is involved. Is it what people wanted it to mean? No. But it's not a lie

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 23:01:37
"He said he'd be 'involved' in the squad and sat on the bench is involved." - I believe he also got the chips at half time and also got the first round in down the pub afterwards.

Agree0 Disagree0

It might not be a lie, I`ll grant you that BUT what`s the point of saying that to the media then? Another case of STMI and that always happens when you talk too much.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think you can argue about him changing his mind on subs given the way the game was going - you could argue however we shouldn't have been in that position and he made some odd choices in the starting lineup.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 14:31:49
Hello Ed's just wondering in your opinion do you feel the club are only looking at De Boer for the next manager or is there any others in the running, I like the look of a few managers but the ones I like the look off are knowwhere near ready yet and it's not MOTD fever they are Aitor karanka from Middlesbrough, and eddie Howe from Bournemouth, I know it wouldn't happen but would love a experienced manager to come in and take one of them under there wings to be an assistant and take over in the future. Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - When the time comes there will be a number of options available. WE have been through this many times before.

Maybe Aitor Karanka will move to Chelsea when Mr Mourinho takes over at Anfield?}

25 Jan 2015 15:56:10
Is Jose the new favourite to get the job now Ed002 ahead of Avb and Rafa?

Agree1 Disagree1

Think he's slightly behind Klopp, Irish Rover.

Agree0 Disagree0

FDB will be the favorite for the job followed by Klopp, IMO. Rafa, Mou and the hapless AVB? No comment.

Agree0 Disagree0

The chances of Mourinho ending up at Anfield as coach are slightly greater than the chances of anything coming from Mars.

Eds

If Inter or another club do manage to get Lucas this month do you expect us to look at Delph or will we stick with what we have, and let the likes of Rositer step up?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - right now I don't expect anything to happen in terms of incoming.}

Ed001, at this point in time, does it look like Lucas will be leaving, or will he wait for the summer?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he wants to go now sadly, but it comes down to whether we agree a fee.}

Fair enough mate, cheers for reply. That's pretty final for me man.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I would just be thankful if we don't move for Delph, though Villa are trying to get us to move for him. Buying average players is not going to move us forward as a club.}

Is there a possibility we will ed001? i'd really just play Can and Henderson in midfield rather than buying Delph.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - if Villa get their way, they are pushing him on to anyone who shows the tiniest bit of interest. Rodgers is keen on him if Lucas goes. So we will have to see. I hope not, but I do fear it will happen.}

Surely if Lucas does go (God forbid) would be ideal to get Can and Rossiter involved more? Agree that Delph is very average and a hot head

Agree1 Disagree1

Hopefully Rodgers won't be here to make the decisions

Agree3 Disagree5

I agree Ed. Lucas has been treated awfully, like Agger was before him. I am sure Delph in Lucas out is what the Nose wants.

Agree1 Disagree1

Delph is a bad player and would add nothing to our team. Awful buy if it happens.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Great news is it would at least give you someone else to moan about.}

Delphi just signed a new contract with villa !

Agree2 Disagree0

Lol sorry ed for not being enthralled by either fabian delph or by my teams current plight - should I be made up that we drew to Bolton? Should I be ecstatic that we squandered over £100million in transfers in summer only to have a worse team? Should I be delighted that 4th place seems miles away? Sorry but refuse to accept that anything happening at the moment is good enough.

Agree2 Disagree1

We know it won't be Rossiter as BR hasn't played him yet. He will probably revert to type and play Gerrard there again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, you do fear we will go for him, now that he has signed new contract Today I take it that's the end of that?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Not in the short-term - he would be too expensive for Liverpool right now.}

Thank Guaranga for that!

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 11:29:58
After Brendan Rodgers' words about balotelli do you think his time at liverpool is up eds?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

Well we need to get rid this month, what's the point in keeping him until the Summer.

Agree4 Disagree1

There is no point in keeping him but it's equally unlikely anyone will buy him for a reasonable fee. I suspect he'll be off in the summer for a fraction of what we paid.

Agree2 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 15:22:02
It was a stupid buy in the first place. If we had a goalscorer with just half the ability as Luis Suarez we'd be right up that league.

Agree2 Disagree1

25 Jan 2015 18:19:34
DBol - there's a bloke at the club called Daniel Sturridge. He's not half bad, watch out for him

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 19:13:31
Essex red. He's a liability mate. Pinned all our entire seasons hopes on a injury plagued striker and that's why Brendan has failed. Dannys an enigma when he's fit, but to suggest we have to rely on him for the only goal source is a small club mentality that Liverpool should never have

Agree4 Disagree0

Dbol is right. BR has used Balo as a scapegoat all season and now that it no longer works, he wants him gone. Ironically, BR sat back and let the Balo deal go thru, claiming it was not his choice YET he had the power and will to stop the Remy deal because he did not want Remy. Which is it, BR? Either he wanted Balo or he didn`t.This is a case of BR trying to have it bth ways yet again. Balo was put in a bad situation by a manager who has no idea and no plan about how to use him YET blames him for all the ills at the club to hide his own failings. His antics in the media are nauseating and gets worse every passing day. PATHETIC!

Agree1 Disagree0

As for relying on Studge the whole season, only an incompetent "person" would rely on him being fit the whole season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sturridge's injury record was improving as we were mindful of his recovery time etc in order to avoid another injury.
Rodgers can't be blamed for Roy Hodgson and his training techniques can he?
I agree that we could not rely on him on his own though.
Rodgers is using Balotelli in the same way Rafa used Robbie Keane.
Scapegoat.
Regardless of who bought him we should be trying to get the best out of him (whatever that is!) not destroying the lad in the media every week.
I just hope he tries to respond in training and gets another chance.
He has undeniable quality no question and in his last few games(cameo's) I saw a player trying to make an impact.

Agree0 Disagree0

We can ask BR to shut his gob when Balo is mentioned to him by the media BUT we know he won`t because (based on transcripts) BR talks about Balo WAY more than it is needed which in my view, is to stop the reporters from asking othere more pertinent questions which he won`t be able to answer because it would require taking responsibility for stuff BUT due to nothing ever being his fault, talking nonstop about Balo is the order of at least a quarter of his pressers.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 11:22:25
Surely our luck will change shortly. We are having some really bad decisions go against us at the mo. But at least we are still in the cup.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

25 Jan 2015 10:46:02
For all you reds out there what did you think about that performance against Bolton ?

My opinion was we had no natural leader on the pitch to take control of pace of game it may be ok going at 100 miles an hour but some time you need to slow the pace down to make the passes count.
there were many chances to make a pass that would of put a player through on goal but was rushed and misplaced this happens because of lack of experience . No leadership

Brendan needs to install patience in our play as well as pace through our vice captain when he takes the armband then we may benefit from all the chances we make and score a lot more goals,

And for all you reds you will have to get used to performances like last night next season when our leader on the pitch what ever his performance may be like is not going to be their and hendo learning his job . Me I would of given captains job to Lucas for a season before I gave it to hendo .

I am not decrying Hendo as captain but his lack of experience in the captains job it is not all about running around at full pace !

Believable0 Unbelievable7

I don't think the problems were anything to do with captaincy or leadership, we just looked one-dimensional and had limited width in attack on account of Enrique, Manquillo and Allen subbing in.

As an example, whenever anything went through Manquillo, it tended to come straight back infield or backwards (as opposed to Markovic previously in that position who always looked to turn and take on his man or make runs in behind). Manquillo looks good to me in a RB position, but not sure he's confident enough in attack to be a RWB. Likewise Enrique not as effective as Moreno, and Allen didn't own midfield like Lucas.

I think the weaker midfield 4 (with the exception of Hendo) and loss of Can at RCB to create some momentum, left the team relying almost exclusively on Coutinho, Sterling and Llalana who frankly weren't in top form and didn't have their usual space to create. I think that's why they looked rushed.

Agree7 Disagree0

Poor finishing mostly, a few decisions could have fallen our way (eg. Markovic) that could have given us a pen and potentially put them down to 10.

In hindsight perhaps Lambert would have been the better option as sub. Lambert seems a more accomplished finisher. Borini had a chance that Bogdan pushed wide right when he went back across the keeper, it looked like he could have just smashed it straight in near the left side of the goal and left Bogdan no chance.

Likewise with Borini's header in injury time, Lambert may have at least hit the target.

Agree0 Disagree0

Zimbo exactly !! players were playing the wrong pass and if you have ever played football you would know you need people talking and cajoling young player were and when to pass the ball we seemed gung ho 100 miles an hour football no direction mate when Gerrard playing he is talking to them through out the game

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought Jord did a good job of leading the boys, he certainly influenced the last 20 minutes of pressure along with the subsitutes, and I feel delivered some great crosses into the box, where if we had natural strikers on we may have gotten something.

Lets not forget, Neil Lennon is not a dummy when it comes to ties such as these, he's master minded defeats of Barcelona in the champions league, by simply blockading his goal and countering, with long balls and hoofs into the box at set pieces. Cup ties such as these are what Neil lennon is brilliant at. It's why Bolton have suddenly shot up the championship from looking like relegation fodder.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 19:15:01
Same story as most of the season. No goal scorer

Agree1 Disagree0

We`ll have a etter chace at their house because IMO, he won`t b able to park the bus because he will have to come out and win the game.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2015 13:38:58
I think we absolutely battered them, they 'parked the bus' for about 75mins of that game and we just ran at them and forced them to make errors. Unfortunately, we either failed to capitalise on their errors due to lack of a goalscorer on the field (can't help but feel Lambert should have been given a go at some point there) and another incompetent ref failing to punish their mistakes - one red at least, at least one pen but probably two. We had plenty of leadership and we were making opportunities all game

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 10:24:56
i have a question for everyone, given the fact chelsea got dumped out of the cup yesterday who thinks that on tuesday they will park several buses at the bridge? i ask as they really don't need to score and we do.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

He'll demand a reaction, he won't risk parking buses and getting a sucker punch. They'll go for the win.

Agree3 Disagree2

25 Jan 2015 15:08:31
They'll park the bus and go for a clean sheet!

Agree3 Disagree2

Hopefully if Bradford can score 4 we can score at least 1.

Agree1 Disagree0

They will come out swinging because Mou will not allow another defeat to happen and I think we can pick them off because obviously, they are not good at anything else BUT parking the bus (which they could not do vs Bradford because they borrowed it to Bolton for Sat), IMO. But we`ll see.

Agree0 Disagree0

We need to score first.
If we do then I fanccy us.

What do you make of BR comments about Mario basically not being good enough at the minute? How can we keep a player who the Manager thinks this of, and said as much to everyone?

Believable4 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - My views about his foot and mouth problem are well known. I have explained what the club would like to do with Balotelli as well.}

25 Jan 2015 10:32:45
Rodgers is fast becoming a laughing stock. Why say that it's not going to help the player or the team. From now on he might be better of just sending the assistant to every press conference. Also why talk about Sterling's contract when he quite clearly has no clue what he is talking about. He signs players then talks about them in public about not being good enough maybe he should take responsibility.

Agree5 Disagree5

I think Brendan is trying to inform all the red fans he does not want him at club but his hands are tied about what he can actually say by his contract

Agree3 Disagree3

BR is a politician who is trying to blame Balo, a guy whose signing he oversaw YET for someone he did not want, allowed it to happen claiming it was not his choice BUT put his foot down to stop the Remy deal. Now that the chickens have come home to roost, BR is now trashing the poor boy like he`s done all season (who didn`t sign himself) as a media distraction so they don`t ask him why he has tanked our season half way thru. Isimply cannot stand his useless drivel anymore and summer cannot come any quicker where I pray the owners will put many of us out of our misery.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 09:52:59
I was at the game yesterday but was too far away from the foul on Markovic to really tell if it was that.
I saw it again on MOTD last night and I don't know how Kevin Foe just waved it away.
I'm starting to think that ref has serious problems with us because in the games he refs we don't get anything.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

He bottled the Markovic decision.
All referees will have some degree of preferences and Kevin Friend and Lee Mason don't prefer us!!
But Mr Webb they are not so let's be grateful for that!

Agree2 Disagree1

A bad decision but nothing out of the ordinary - the standard of refereeing in general is pretty poor. Considering how much money is slushing about in the game it's amazing how many weak officials there are.

Agree3 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 19:22:35
The refs in this country are terrible mate. For the most exiting league in the world which generates the most money,, the standard of reffing is disgracefully poor

Agree0 Disagree0

Kevin Friend seems to be blind each time he refs us. The foul on Hendo is a foul anywhere else on the field so why is it not a foul in the box where Spearing doesn`t even go for the ball and takes out Hendo? The Marko incident was a bit fuzzy and I can understand why he "may" have missed it BUT still, he was aweful.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 09:51:56
I think Brendans speech about Balotelli needing to step it up in training was once again too much information. Sir Bob would be shaking his head at B R interviews. Telling the world that Liverpools start to the season was all down to Mario not willing to press. Nothing to do with him dumping Lucas and Sakho and rotating the team every week to accommodate Gerrard, Johnson and Allen.
How will any club show an interest in a player not performing on the pitch, when you tell the world, he's not training hard enough.
Surely these comments should not be aired in public. Does nothing to enhance the players value.

Believable13 Unbelievable5

It's astonishing that, given BR has a supposed high intensity pressing game ( once he gets rid of his possession nonsense he seems to impose like some kind of Tourette's syndrome for the first 4 months of each season ) we even went in for balotelli given his history.

You are never going to change him into that kind of player. Shoddy selection and shoddy management

Agree11 Disagree1

Mario has never pressed in a single game of football, why did he think he was going to start once he bought him?

Agree11 Disagree1

Your all blaming Brendan for Mario but isn't there a five man selection panel who would of had their say in Mario signing for LFC . What if Brendan did not want Mario but the vote went against him so he was stuck with him but can't open his heart about it because of his contract agreement with LFC ? But is trying to say things in stealth within his press conferences which people are not getting on to just like this interview about Mario ? To high light the contract position I know it is a different level but I have been told at work last week if I put anything against the company or the work force on face book and the likes I will be sacked for breech of contract !!

Agree4 Disagree5

It's a well known fact that Rodger didn't want ballo, he wanted bony.
He has tried the arm around the shoulder of Mario, that has not worked. Now he is giving him a kick up the back side in public. Like all manager would do.
And anyone who thinks otherwise is very nieve.

Agree9 Disagree7

It si also a well known fact that no player is bought to the club without the manager agreeing.

Agree7 Disagree3

25 Jan 2015 13:14:57
Bristheman, I think you're spot on. Them words indicate to me he didn't want him, along with the previous comments that he didn't want him when we played Inter mid-season surely strengthen that.

According to Ian Ayre on Radio Merseyside, there's no actual 'committee'.

Sound Ian, and I think your bartering over transfer fees is shabit hot too.

Agree1 Disagree2

Your a probably right ag. But there is lots of stuff I have agreed to that I didn't want. It's call being an adult.

Agree2 Disagree0

My point is he shouldn't be relaying any converstions he is having with the player to the press. He lacks class. Sir Bob Paisley did everything behind closed doors. Brendan is lowering the players value by criticising him. He should leave all this stuff for his book. A great title would be, The Ego Has Landed.

Remy was blackballed by Rogers. So why wasn't Balotelli.

What a fantastic day yesterday was for LFC. On paper that leaves Utd and Aresnal, the only teams that can match us on our day. With a fit Sturridge I fancy us for the cup this year. I've watched match of the day 3 times. So much fun seeing Stamford bridge empty. Let's hope it happens again mid-week. I love football!

Before you sharpen your knives - I know we huffed and puffed against Bolton but I still think we will turn them over when they have to come out and play at home.

I've got a good feeling about this season. Haters get ready to eat some humble pie.

Believable16 Unbelievable8

Haters get ready to eat some humble pie?

Do you actually understand the amount of money that has been spent this season and a draw at Anfield vs Bolton is acceptable? WTF has this got to do with City, and Chelsea losing when they have far more important things to worry about like winning the Champions League or EPL.

Rose tinted glasses my friend. I will be the one licking my lips at the end of the season.

Agree10 Disagree13

I don't like to comment on the money side of things Max, couldn't you point bigger fingers at Chelsea and City if it was just about money?
I think we stand a great chance in the cup now. I wouldn't fancy us against City or Chelsea away but on our day I think we can take anyone who is still in the competition. Have a good Sunday.

25 Jan 2015 13:57:57
Ed001, you're fighting a losing battle there mate. Expecting Davey to post with intelligence and a reasoned argument is like BR expecting Balotelli to fit into a high pressing style.

If we'd just managed a scrappy 1-0, then it could've been a perfect day for us, especially given Stevie's birthday. As things stand, though, it am fearful that we may not manage it at the Reebok as we have the bitters only a few days later so key players may be rested.

Agree2 Disagree0

Changemynappy

What does Chelsea and City have to do with LFC? What they do is their prerogative.

Only Manchester United spent more than LFC this season and look where we are?

Who is to blame?

Agree0 Disagree0

We were bad against Bolton, we "huffed and puffed" but ultimately we lacked what we have been lacking all season which is goals. Bolton are not a good team yet the majority of our chances were shots outside the box. And let's not forget our defence which allowed Bolton a number of presentable chances as well (Gudjohnsen in particular missed a howler). We have been poor all season, 1-1 with Chelsea at home had everyone raving and now we draw 0-0 at home with Bolton people are defending the result - it is not defensible. I don't care whether other teams struggled against "lesser" sides - we should be playing better than we did and we should be beating Bolton who, despite getting bodies behind the ball, we pretty poor themselves. It's laughable to defend our performance when it simply was not good enough. Oh and with the Europa League starting up soon do we really need another fixture added to the equation? Face facts we are simply not good enough this season and have been found out again and again by teams who do something as simple as defend in numbers.

p.s. hope we try and win the Europa League as it is the only way I see us qualifying for the Champions League - 4th place is pure fallacy.

Agree2 Disagree0

Seano I think our fans think were better than what we are to be honest mate we huff and puff are way through games and it is only because the premier league is not as great a league as were lead to believe that were still in with a chance of fourth place

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree. It's either wilful ignorance or blind optimism but I sometimes wonder if other fans are watching the same game - I think it is perhaps that we have been so poor at times this season that, when we play merely average, it has fans taking it as a signal that we are getting better. Personally I haven't seen anything to suggest that our form will change. We are average and inconsistent (but with a squad of quality personnel in parts) - 5th place at best, anything more than that is a dream, there is nothing to suggest we will either achieve or deserve that.

Agree1 Disagree0

We would have deserved wherever we finish come end of season because "the table doesn`t laugh". As for the turnaround, I think it only seems that way because thanks to BR`s unforced blunders, the bar has been set so low regarding perfs that any kind of marginal improvement makes fans jump and that is only human. As for Bolton, I also think we will turn them over as well BUT we`ll see.

As for Changmynappy, stop the trash-talking because we have done and won nothing yet. I will always root for my team regardless of who the manager is so keep your trash-talking and moral lectures of "I`m a better fan than you are" to those who give a rat`s ass because many of us don`t care.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seano, I think you are being harsh.
The game against Bolton showed what we already know.
We need a striker.
Apart from that aspect of the game I thought we were good against Bolton.
We can all criticize the choice of strikers we went for in the summer and that is fair criticism but the team created more than enough chances to win the game.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 09:07:47
I for one am relieved that it seems like we are not signing anymore new players this season. It will just be more money wasted under the committee/Rodgers.

Believe Rodgers days are numbered and will not be with us next season. The outlay this season vs where we are at the moment is deserving of the sack and anyone who wants to disagree are hiding their heads in the sand.

Oh and those who are worried about the Johnson situation, I doubt FSG are going to offer him a new contract on his current wages and will have to accept a reduced package. If they did not want to offer Gerrard a better deal then I highly doubt Johnson's demands will be met. It will be interesting to see how it pans out but the fact that Rodgers is intent on keeping him at the club shows how little ambition there is with our current coach and managerial setup. Johnson is not good enough and we will not win the EPL with players like these. End of the story.

Believable4 Unbelievable8

Unfortunately, as you say. Many have their heads in the sand.

Agree1 Disagree1

Max, we won't be winning the EPL while we have only the fifth highest wage bill in the prem.

I'd suggest as long as this continues it'll be a result getting beyond third and fourth place on a regular basis.

Of all the money spent this season, don't forget that we've brought in close to eighty million.

I believe that if the players we've recently purchased were to be sold over the next couple of seasons, I reckon that this would cover the net spend (approx £40M) of this season, quite easily.

Agree2 Disagree0

Walton red

People are to blind to see that Rodgers ego is the biggest problem and the reason why we are in the mess we currently are this season.

Do you think we would be mid table and playing catch up if Rodgers had just stuck to last seasons formula of pressing and pace up top from the start of this season?

Instead he wanted to prove that the system he introduced when he first came to the club will work and there is every chance he will revert back to that delusional style of play some time or another. His system is rubbish but he will not learn. Houllier and Rafa never changed and neither will Rodgers.

What is the point of mentioning net spend when close to £120m was spent on signing players alone this season, increasing the wage bill and going overboard on agent fees again.

LFC has become a bottomless pit for FSG. They might as well have used the money that was wasted this season on transfers this season for the stadium revamp, that way it would not have been necessary to put the club into further debt with a £115m loan. But let's just pardon Rodgers and let him do what he wants to.

If it was up to me Rodgers would have been sacked already.

Agree2 Disagree1

Max, I respect your opinion, but I disagree. This whole thing about 'the press' is also becoming annoying. Who was it who introduced pressing and pace into our squad?

Under Houllier, Benitez Hodgson and even Dalglish we never played that way. It was Rodgers who implemented it. As for changing style every four months that's nonsense again, in my opinion.

The fact is he never had the players to do it when he first came into Anfield, he was working with players like Cole and Downing. It was only when he brought his own players in, like Sturrdge and Coutinho that he was able to play that way. Plus, we payed that way from the start last season, all the way through.

This season we played two up front when we had Sturridge fit, Spurs away? only trying something different when Sturridge got injured.

Be careful what you wish for, not many managers attempt an attractive high pressing game, especially at a big club like Liverpool, where two defeats are a crisis.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - we never played pressing football from the start of last season at all. That is simply not true. It would worry me less if we had. The problem is that this is Rodgers' 3rd season with us and at the start of each he has begun without pressing football. If he had learnt his lesson and started with it this season, then I would forgive the lack of results, personally. The worry is that he reverts to slow, patient football at the start of each season, when it has not worked for us. He is meant to be learning his trade, I find it a bad sign that he is not learning that particular lesson at all.}

Fully agree with Ed001. It also goes back to the first time Rodgers turned the LFC job down because of FSG wanting a DOF. Rodgers is set in his ways and will not change.

It has been three seasons and each season we have seen the same thing from the start. Slow build up possession based football and then changes to save his behind when clearly it is not working. Three times in a row. Rodgers will not change. He needs to pack his things and go.

Agree1 Disagree0

Ed01, thank you. My problem with BR is exactly that. He is so stubborn that he lacks ability to learn from his mistakes! Ppl seem to forget the fact that he has reverted to this mundane footy at the beginning of every season. If he wins every game until the end of the season I'd still want him out!

Agree0 Disagree0

Like I have mentioned before, Rodgers is making the same mistakes at the start of each season, and while other big teams start off really well and put points on the board, we are playing catch -up,
making it very difficult to make top four, but his Big mistake was not realising that our No 1 transfer was a top class striker to replace the one that left .

Agree0 Disagree0

All your points are valid. BR will NEVER change. He is the ONLY coach I have ever heard of who will destroy what is working in order to prove a stupid point that has already been debunked 2 times in a row and wastes loads of cash he extorted from the owners while doing it. There`s a saying, "If it ain`t broke, don`t fix it" in sports. For BR, it is "If it ain`t broke, BREAK IT then fix it. Then Break it again, the next year".

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think so Ed, but there's always the potential as twitter screenshots are often shared elsewhere, so I could have picked it up that way.
I didn't think it was that uncommon? It makes sense the club wouldn't want to sell him to a premier league rival, hence a lower asking price to European clubs,
I can only speculate of course, I have no inside knowledge,

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It would be a restriction on his ability to work and something that would get Liverpool in to significant problems if it went to court.}

25 Jan 2015 07:57:22
Hi Eds, can you explain me again the Balotelli situation? you say we want to sell him and there is no buyer for the price we want, fair enough, why not loan him until there will be a buyer (maybe the club taking him on loanwill have a buying option)? Surely if he is not part of the rotation and is freezed on the bench, it will take his price even further down? At least if he is loaned someone else will pay his wages.

I fully understand BR's decision to leave him off the pitch as he doesn't do any pressing or getting back when requird - I still think, against a team like Bolton whose threat was reduced, he maybe could have helped with our finishing (though his finish so far wasn't great either). But if we are not interested in his services, let him go.

And for all those who say he will play as a second striker when Sturridge is back - this will not happen. In our current formation you will more or les have to give up Sterling and Lallana to acomodate both Sturridge and Balotelli and I don't see (or want) this to happen.

Re the new contract to GJ I am speechless.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - and who would want to take him on loan? He is a known disruptive influence, there is no interest from anyone in paying him what he earns now.}

Makes you wonder why we took a massive gamble in buying him, and him taking up a valuable place in our squad . it was a crazy move, and when the season is over, someone should be getting their P45 .

Agree0 Disagree0

BR is the one you should be pointing finger at and nobody else.

This post is for anyone who still has belief in Brendan Rodgers.

Glen Johnson is to sign a new 3 year contract.

What the f*%k is that all about!!!

This has got to be the final Nial in his coffin and I'm surprised the owners are going to allow it.

Johnson has been under performing for years now, and he still gets a new contract, that's going to make him buck up isn't it.

Believable16 Unbelievable3

Why does everyone hate Johmson so much? I mean - from what I've read, people actually hate him. Seems harsh to me.

Agree4 Disagree5

Because he is lazy, acts like a big time charlie, plays for himself rather than the team and, if you watch him in games, will do some of the most infuriating things possible like:

- take a man, then cut back to be confronted by the same man, then cut back, then cut back the other way again, then lose the ball
- cut inside and take a shot that is nowhere near the target
- slow down play near the opponents box before playing a cross that is either a) blocked or b) a pass to the goalie
- get caught in possession
- get caught up field but be to lazy to bother tracking back properly
- rarely if ever make an actual tackle
- try and take a man only to get easily bullied
- lose possession near his own goal by doing something either fancy or stupid
- getting paid mega money
- having a clause in his contract stating he must play when fit despite he fact that, when fit, he is a complete liability

Hope this explains some fans feeling on the player - he is the Balotelli of right backs.

Agree2 Disagree1

But I HATE peoe that are a menace to society, not footballers Seano. If Johnson could press a button that gave him 2 assists and a goal every week then I'm sure he would press it.

I've witnessed shocking vitriol against the lad on this site, from so-called Liverpool fans, against Johnson and the same against Rodgers for that matter.

If love to live in a world of the non fickle fan, where we can all have a banter - yes -but bitterness and spite didn't overshadow our every word. Alas, agenda's and ego's come to the fore.

Agree1 Disagree1

He has been awful for the last 3 years, cost countless goals with his mistakes and contributed very little, does that deserve a new contract? No.

Agree2 Disagree1

Change, nobody hates GJ. We just hate his lack of effort, hunger, determination, commitment and his inability to even care if he has a good game or not or if we win or not. The boy has been aweful for years YET gets picked and now, might get rewarded for rank mediocrity. Many of us (esp me who`s dream was to be a professional fooie player" would take two in the face just to do what he does and get the money he gets. That is what we cannot stand.

Agree0 Disagree0

He showed all of those things when he scored in the 1- nil victory against Stoke.
I want him to be sold but I agree that some people go over the top from time to time.
Me included.
Passion sometimes comes out the wrong way.

Agree0 Disagree0

Taking one in the face for the cause is part of his job and for the money he is paid, it is the least he could have done for the other aweful perfs he`s been putting in over the the best part of 3 years.

IMO. we have too many passengers at the club!

Some of the players are just WOEFUL and look disinterested. (You all know who they are)

We have played much better football with the younger/newer players these last few months. Then we bring back some of the FIRST TEAM and produce a display like that.

Granted we were unlucky not to score but after earlier results (Chelsea and City getting knocked out) this could be our most realistic chance to collect a cup this season.

I hate coming on here and criticising my beloved club. I've been a supporter for 40 years.

But HOW can Johnson's performance these past few seasons warrant a new contract (Even on reduced wages). Even Harry at QPR decided not to pursue him.

I could go on with some of the other players but i wont.

But in my mind we need to get RID of some of the dead wood at this club so that we can spend the money we get to purchase a decent goal scorer and a keeper that can give Mig's some competition.

We also need to give some of the youngster's more chance. We keep being told we have some of the best talent at the academy but they are not given a sniff at the first team.
Loaned out or allowed to leave (I think the SUSO decision will come back to bite us as i think he is going be a quality player in the coming few years). Step them up and give them a shot.
There performance's could be any worse than the display from some of the more established players from yesterday.

I would also add that we should get rid of those that are deemed to be surplus to requirements and only then look to improve the squad.

Glen Johnson gets a new contract? On what merit? Brendan wants to keep him because of his experience, then he should have kept a player, who loves LFC, Daniel Agger, but GJ, he comes across like a mercenary. Some of these decisions just don't make any sense. Joe Allen starts? Also on what merit? Why not give Rossiter a chance? As I see it Joe Allen will never make it at LFC, just like Borini. Asssaidi was good at Stoke, Borini at Sunderland and Allen in Swansea, that's exactly their standard, they just don't belong to a club the size as LFC! Lucas should have been appreciated more, even when he didn't get as much playing time, it just seems they're making hasty decisions at the club.

I don't understand Rodger's stubbornness.
this game was a good opportunity for youngsters instead he opted to choose the same old players.
And why the hell did he buy balotelli in the first place.
If he cannot inspire players to play for him then he should better leave this club.
I agree that pressing higher up the pitch is the best thing for us, but we need able player to attack clinically, which we don't have at the moment.

It looks really difficult for us to get into top four . and we should get rid of Allen, Johnson, Enrique, Jones, Borini, Balotelli, manquillo.
And bring 1 goalkeeper, def/play making midfielder.if needed we should bring a striker. it is really sad that we keep on rebuilding each year.and getting away from the elusive title.

Believable3 Unbelievable5

If we had lost the game (with youngsters), as many Premier league sides did yesterday, you would probably have a moan.

Because we drew the game, and only drew because of a classy performance by the opposition goalkeeper - you still moan.

In reference to the signing of The Italian, I seem to remember everyone raving 'Mario this' and 'Super Mario that' who were all blinkered by the charlatans hairdo's and arrogance.

We're still in the cup competitions, we're in good form, we've got a great set of players and we have a world class striker to come back (world class when fully fit by the way).

Not all bad, is it?

Agree4 Disagree4

25 Jan 2015 09:25:00
'Everyone' raving Mario this and that is an exaggeration Davey mate.

Agree5 Disagree1

Easy now. We are still in it, and if we beat Chelsea next week and get to a Cup final, well then it's worth it.

Playing the youngsters ? I'm all for it, but it should be done right. If we crash out of everything including any chances of anything in the PL, well I don't believe that would be any advantage for the youngsters.

Agree0 Disagree0

Davey Bootle is a serial stereotype-er.

Agree2 Disagree0

@davey

we drew because of a "classy performance by the opposition goalkeeper"? No sorry me drew because we had no cutting edge, nobody in the opposition box when attacking, lots of possession but no product - we essentially did not play well enough to win. There goalkeeper made 2 good saves, the rest were saves you would expect to be made - making out like he had a worldie because we were rank is beyond daft.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lallana, Allen, Enrique and Johnson had poot games but they were all not playing for a while due to injury or being squad player, so I wouldn't be too critical of them.

We had enough chances to win two games but the problem was, like it has been most of the season, the lack of a natural striker. My gripe is if the manager doesn't trust Borini, Lambert or Balotelli in games at home in a FA cup 4th round game at Bolton, they will never be trusted and hence they don't have a future at LFC.

A question to one of the EDs: It is rumored that Sterling has rejected the latest contract offered by LFC. I don't know the terms of the contract but I'm guessing (maybe foolishly) that he would be earning close to 100K based on the last offer. Is he looking for even more money? My question is, is it sustainable to keep Sterling because if at 20, he wants in excess of 100K, what happens in another two years when there would be another extension? What happens in four years when there will be another extension? You see what I'm getting at?

He is on course to being the highest paid player ever at LFC and that will probably happen in the next four years or so if he stays and continues at this level.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - sustainable, yes.}

Allen Enrique and Johnson did not play any beter before they got injured.

Reading today the we could be signing Fabian Delph by the end of this window as villa don't want to lose him for nothing. It's between us and spurs. What's your thoughts.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

Waste of te and funds. He`s a poor player and not even better than our current mids like Can, Sterling, Lallana and Coutinho EXCEPT he likes the bench as a squad player.

Agree4 Disagree0

I'd take him instead of Allen as squad and see how it goes - don't think he's a replacement for Gerard or Lucas or good enough to be a guaranteed starter

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - so you would take him as a cup player to ensure the likes of Rossiter never get a run out in them? Why on earth would you want to do that?}

I think we have 2 CM positions to fill, and only Hendo, Lucas and Can as experienced players to fill them (if Allen goes). Bearing in mind Lucas may yet leave and Can may be needed occasionally at RCB or even LB from time to time, I'm assuming Rossiter will still get game time.

Also on value, Delph is a good price/quality option at the moment and would be an upgrade on Allen while offsetting the likely loss on his sale.

I would not be happy if it meant Rossiter or others wouldn't get their shot in cup games or as subs in PL games where we're well ahead.

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - how is Delph good in any respect? He is looking for a big pay day, so he will not be a good price. He has little in the way of quality, other than stupid nasty tackles at the wrong times. He is not creative, he is not defensive, he just runs around a lot so it looks good on camera. Oh and his touch is so inconsistent it is clear his concentration is hopeless. One minute his touch is sublime, the next it is worse than a drunken Sunday morning footballer. Obviously he is getting distracted, as that can be the only reason for such a poor touch at times. He is lucky to be part of a team that plays to his strength - he can run around a lot throwing himself in to wild tackles a lot as Villa never have the ball to show up how poor he actually is.}

Ed1, but BR won't play the youth like Rossiter. He has had numerous opportunities to play them but won't so isn't it starting to get a bit pointless all us fans shouting that other players shouldn't be bought because we have great young players.
This manager has not and will not play the youth no matter how much we and you Eds shout about it.
I know it's wrong, I know we are wasting the academy etcetc but the man won't play them.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he played them when there was no choice, so buying no players would leave him with no option.}

To be fair I haven't watched a ton of Delph, but from what I have seen he looked like he had potential. I would rather they bought a Milner or Schneiderlin but I don't think that's going to happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's 25 going on 26, by now that potential should be fulfilled, he's as good as he is going to ever get, he is a poor midfielder, just as poor as Allen and he's about the worst centre midfielder I've seen at the club in a long time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rather Schneiderlin for central midfiekd than Milner all day long, Schneiderlin is far more disciplined, Milner can best be described as "runs around a lot". To be a really good defensive midfielded you need discipline and a decent tackled, Milner is neither of these.

Agree0 Disagree0

Delph is mediocre, like so amazingly mediocre that it is a huge surprise that we would even be considering him for free. It will be up there with Paul Konchesky if, god forbid, we do actually sign him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He won't becoming just yet as he has signed a new deal. However, there was interest in him from both Liverpool and Spurs.}

25 Jan 2015 01:55:39
I don't get way sterling is starting to get so much stick. He's been asked to do a job for the team,
playing out of position cause BR can't sort his strikers out and already scored more goals than mario, Lambert and Borini put together without him we would be.screwed

get behind the lad

Believable7 Unbelievable0

I'm guessing the stick is aimed more at BR for putting him there. Messi is one of the best ever, but play him at centre back and he'd look out of place. BR is clueless, and now he's got a few results, that smugness is back. How annoying.

Agree7 Disagree1

Agree, my comment was purely about his best position rather than his quality. He's trying his best and done well in recent weeks considering being played out of position (quite possibly bailed the team out of a far worse situation that we're in) but BR and the committee need rethink.

Quite why we are rumoured to be trying to keep GJ instead of using the opportunity to move on any non-core players we can to fix a major problem is beyond me. I know they're not the same position, but funds are funds, and we don't need him given Manquillo, Can available and Flanno and Wisdom to return.

Talking of senior leadership, what are Sakho, Llalana, Hendo who have all captained senior sides before, and we also have Lucas and Skrtel as long time ambassadors of the club? We should let some of these show they can step up to guide the younger talent.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 01:49:30
I think today had 3 takeaways for me
1) GJ and Allen shouldn't play again, we immediately lost penetration from both the RCB position and from the midfield, leaving Coutinho and Sterling needing to drop deeper to get the ball. This meant they got easily picked up by Boltons midfield rather than being able to play between the lines. We should have played Can in midfield and Lovren at centre back, but we still lack another strong defensive RCB to cover Can - is Wisdom the solution next season?
2) Sterling is trying his best but isn't a natural striker, he needs a lot of opportunities to bury one or two, we're better off playing him next to Coutinho with a proper striker upfront (not Lambert, Borini or Balo, we need someone Sturridge like - Lacazette?)
3) We need proper attacking wing backs or we lack width going forward. Manquillo needs to learn to take on the defence (Enrique was only marginally better) and we struggled to get in behind, leaving them able to pack the midfield and give Coutinho/Llalana/Sterling no space. Immediately looked more dangerous once Markovitc came on and stretched their defence. I'd play Llalana out wide, Markovic LM and Sterling/Coutinho behind the striker

Disappointing games from Coutinho/Sterling/Llalana despite a lot of effort, but I think it was the setup behind them that left them without the space to look dangerous the way they normally do

Hi all.

Looks like sterling has rejected the latest contract offer. Rodgers left looking a little foolish after comments made about the deal be sorted imminently.

Anyway, I wanted to get others thoughts on Sterling. Specifically, how would people feel if he left?

My own stance, (no doubt in the minority here) is that I wouldn't mind if he left for the right price.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Looking foolish and clueless in the media is nothing new to BR so no surprise there. As for Raheem, he`d better b careful and not listen to his agent(s) too much because all they are looking for is a big pay day for them. If he doesn`t wanna stay here then, he can go.

25 Jan 2015 00:51:20
Well at least we didn't lose! sorry but is that really good enough for LFC against Bolton!, how many chances does Sterling need? why do we insist on trying to walk the ball into the net against a 9/10 man defense, all packed into the penalty area? also, everyone wanting to get rid of Johnson and he gets an offer suddenly BR wants to keep him, Enrique looks slow and past his best would someone please give us a couple of million for him, some of BR's team selection baffle me, i know we have had a few good results but i do wonder how we get away with it. We so obviously needed a striker on the pitch today, a finisher, because most of our midfield couldn't hit a barn door! so frustrating! i said that months ago and nothings changed, i would not b e surprised if this transfer window ends without sorting our obvious problems, we will see, anyway, rant over, best part of the day? all the big clubs being knocked out wahayyy

Believable3 Unbelievable1

I can understand wh he changed the team because the same lineup has been playing for a while now. However, Bolton parked the bus meanng chances would be at a premium YET we still created 3-4 chances that should have been buried, a penalty that wasn`t given (cos anywhere else on the field, it is a foul and Spearing didn`t even try to play the ball and went full go on Hendo) and a red card that the ref did not see, IMO due to having a bad angle. All in all, I think we have a good chance vs Bolton away because they will not park the bus and as we have seen when we play away from home where teams have to come out and play like Villa, Bournmouth, Burnley and Sunderland( I know, not the best opposition), did where we picked them off at will. All in all, cand do better would b my grade.

How Allen gets game time over Rossiter or any other upcoming youth? Woeful and ineffective again. Granted Lucas needs a rest or can't play every game, but the difference in quality when Lucas replaced Allen. Huge.

Plus point for Joe was he did spray a 15yrd pass which was also slightly ahead of sideways. and it found a fellow red.

He was awful, that's not trolling, it's just stating a fact. Loses the ball too often, passing is poor, too weak, makes no tackles and offers nothing going forward. Poor player and a poor selection by Rodgers.

TJ how is that trolling Allen? He was awful or play in the middle was awful compared to how's it's been. He brings nothing positive to the team as he is the Welsh Xavi but can't keep or use possession!

Besides, if was was doing that well why was he subbed?

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jan 2015 14:51:51
Good question.

Why does lallana get subbed every other game when he's one of our best players? Subbing often has nothing to do with the players performance. Joe is not 100% match fit, as this is his first game in a long time.
Is Lucas a better player? Of course.
