Any chance of Lazar playing against Utd tomorrow and turning the tie?

Believable6 Unbelievable8

25 Jan 2017 22:19:59
Doesn't matter now. Think I'd prefer them to lose the final instead.

25 Jan 2017 23:40:53
They'll need a Lazarus not Lazar.
Still got a slightly better chance than us though.

Hey eds and reds
Very different rumours on William carvalho floating round. What do the eds think is he the quality we need or the position we need?
I personally would love him in our team get rid of can and push Henderson forward I think this would make a huge difference as can slows everything down when played in that midfield 3 . Can you see this rumour having any substance or is the summer the best time of a player of his reputation

25 Jan 2017 18:38:00
No, he's not the quality we need. I am. And at this moment in time I can categorically and without fear of contradiction and ridicule that I've been approached by the club. Talks have progressed smoothly and I look set to agree personal terms.

Klopps wanted me to join in a thousand seasons. But we then figured that'd be too soon as I'm not yet ready for such a step. So I'll be out on loan still.

Carvalho who?

26 Jan 2017 10:51:20
Carvalho ain't going to happen, IMO.

25 Jan 2017 14:25:11
Hi Eds
Do u think that tonight could be the night that defines our season confidence is low but a good win that over turns the tie and sends us to wembley could bolster our performances in the league and cement a top 4 finish however going out of the cup tonight could shatter the already broken confidence and propell us into free fall in the league .

So u think it will have no bearing on how our outlook for the rest of the season will be formed good or bad

{Ed002's Note - No.}

25 Jan 2017 14:53:33
Honest answers from Ed002, always respected and appreciated. 🙂
Basically any game has the potential to effect our season positively or negatively but this one should have no more potential than any other.
I think the idea is to build a team that is less reliant on individual brilliance and has a strong mentality. If the team is going to mentally collapse in a heap after a league cup semi final then Klopp is further away from his goals than we all think. After all, if we're being honest, the league cup was our least priority at the beginning of the season. Of course we want to win it, like every game, but if we don't then we look to improve in our next game. 😎

25 Jan 2017 15:02:07
To be fair id love to win tonight, but the league is more important to me, top 4. whatever happens tonight happens.

25 Jan 2017 15:43:27
Priceless responses Ed. pearls of wisdom from the zen master 😆

25 Jan 2017 18:42:17
The Liverpool way, go out and try to win each game.

One game at a time

25 Jan 2017 13:18:47
Ed.,

Any chance of us going for Keita Balde this window or in the summer?

Thanks!

Better off letting Ojo develop he has all the attributes to become that type of player if not better.

Mathematics is Harry's new username I take it?

25 Jan 2017 14:22:37
Lol I know the thought went through my mind earlier haha!

25 Jan 2017 14:54:42
Isn't a fundamental corner stone of mathematics logical thinking? 😄

25 Jan 2017 18:21:34
Harry can think, Ron.
But can he contemplate his own existence? 🤔

25 Jan 2017 11:07:59
William carvalho never really impressed me at the euro's and seemed very overated, i fail to see what he would bring that we don't already have with henderson, can and wijnaldum.

On the goalkeeping issue, just throwing this one out there, should we not be adopting the same approach barcelona did with ter stegen?

Buy an experienced goalkeeper to play for a few years, but is also willing to regularly drop to the bench to allow the younger goalkeeper to play? This would surely be beneficial for both the long and short term. And given begovic wants to leave chelsea, i can't think of anybody better to fill the role for us. It just doesn't make any sense to me that our backup goalkeeper is someone we are equally as terrified to play.

25 Jan 2017 11:19:39
Carvallho is a beast of a player. He would bring stability into that midfield which gets exposed every now and then when someone runs at you on counter. He is a solid tackler, poaitonally aound and has a well built physique ideal for the PL. A fine passer of the ball. He is a mix of Matic and Kante and most importantly a finished article at 23.

With Ward returning from loan in summer, I can't see us buying a GK unless you are selling both Migs and Karius.

25 Jan 2017 12:11:19
Not sure what you expected from him at the euros? He won the damn thing playing in midfield so he didn't do too bad there cos you could argue every player is overrated for not winning it! It's not a great place to judge players- if we did we would have sold handerson and lallana on the back of it. carvalho is not the finished article but very good at multiple things. I actually think him and Henderson could competed for the same spot or either one could be moved out to the left / right. We've seen what a pinnacle role Henderson plays and we just can't replace him when he's out. I have no idea if this is true but WC will add to our first team. If he comes it won't be to warm the bench. I think he'd be a very good buy.

25 Jan 2017 13:10:49
He is much better than anyone we have defensively and can play from deep. He would allow Henderson to push forward alongside lallana if he was to come, which I very much doubt. He wouldn't be the ideal midfielder I would go for due to the way we play but he would certainly be a better one than what we have now. He improves the first team which is certainly what we need in the middle, it's no mystery that we need a better midfielder than wiji and can for the first team. I think the pair of them are decent players but they don't bring enough to the first team defensively or offensively and are far too inconsistent. I would say the hendo, wiji, lallana partnership works more often than not, but we will still concede bundles of goals with that open midfield. We sacrifice stability for fluidity. Can should be learning his trade better from the bench and used against certain opposition, it's clear he's not ready to start week in week out because he's missing fundamentals to his game. If he doesn't accept this and doesn't sign a new contract etc loan or sell him, he is in no position to do that. A good player but he wouldn't get into any other midfield of the top teams in the prem.

25 Jan 2017 14:07:49
There is nothing overrated about William Carvalho, Anonymous. Nothing whatsoever. The guy is a great player, end of. You don`t have big clubs all over Europe tracking you for 3 years if you are a dud or overrated. I saw him at the Euros and I disagree with your assessment. I watched him closely as I had never seen him play and the guy is as strong as an ox YET as technically gifted in the DM role as Patrick Vieira.

He is physical, can pass long or short with either foot, tackle and cover a lot of ground with deceptive speed. Whether he won the Euros or not is irrelevant cos Baggio didn`t win the World Cup YET he was one of the stars of it and one of the best players I have ever seen in my lifetime. Will we get him? I doubt it. But to say he`s overrated, is way off the mark. As for the GK issue, let`s wait and see in the summer as all the top GK`s are already taken and they won`t be moving anywhere.

25 Jan 2017 14:58:39
I agree AW. He's playing in a low quality league and when I've seen him playing in the cl/ el he's failed to impress me. Also he may be as strong as an ox but is incredibly slow and turns even slower. The issue with Lucas playing in that position is his lack of pace, so I fail to see how Carvalho would be an improvement in that position. He wouldn't suit our high pressing game either. If he comes in I'll support him, but I think he's not the right player for us.

25 Jan 2017 15:00:13
As Swish said, the euros/ international football is a terrible marker for premier league suitability. However, I thought he was very effective in the Euros. I have to be honest it wasn't to the point where I craved him for LFC, but he performed his role at that level very well.
He seems great at reading the game so maybe that will make up for a 'perceived lack of pace', however, I've never seen a player skin him for pace. I think his 'pace' hasn't been properly tested in the league he's played in.

25 Jan 2017 18:31:23
Depends which 'pace' you're referring to.
His speed will have been tested time and again from very quick players, should be easy enough to find out whether he suffers a lack of pace.
Whether he can keep up with the pace of the PL is a different matter.

Hi
All and eds
Great news on coutinho
Emre Can stalling on a new deal like it's a forward pass.

Believable12 Unbelievable2

25 Jan 2017 11:59:07
Classss I've seen milk turn quicker than can😂😂confidence has well and truly gone . fingers crossed it returns because he was looking the part at one stage

25 Jan 2017 14:09:13
The whole team is lacking confidence now, not just Emre.

25 Jan 2017 15:05:29
Can gives us 100% every time he puts on the shirt and has been a real workhorse for the club.
Attitude and commitment has been spot on and never in question. He deserves a break.
I know this is a banter site, I appreciate that, but there are players who don't have the same attitude or commitment as Can yet they get fans pining for their return to the fold.

YNWA Emre

25 Jan 2017 15:59:28
Attitude and commitment only gets you so far, it thereafter becomes about ability. Can has passed the attitude and commitment test but is really lacking in ability. Attitude and commitment will not win you the title. It is essential in a title winning team, but ability is what separates Can from those players you refer to that everyone pines over.

25 Jan 2017 16:08:44
I agree with your general assessment ZALFC123. I'm just asking for Can to be spared from some of the hyperbole about his limitations due to his admirable professional attitude.
Give me a limited Emre Can over a talented Raheem Sterling every time.

25 Jan 2017 16:09:18
Spot on ron

25 Jan 2017 16:39:56
I actually do believe it's confidence more than anything affecting can. If you don't think that boy has any attacking ability check out his assist again for I believe sturridge against Southampton. Think it was the 6-1 win. Someone with no ability could not produce that. Obv only 1 example but last season he was very good at times

25 Jan 2017 16:51:29
Hi Ron, good point. But we must move away from being moved by the name. Rather we should appreciate the performance and results. I don't get this part of the fan base that supports unconditionally the name rather than look at what is best for the club. My biggest point is that no one should be free from critism. If they are crap then it is fine to say it. But we should never absolve any player or manager from being judged just because they are who they are. No name is bigger than the ultimate name 'LFC'

25 Jan 2017 17:04:58
Sorry should be criticism

25 Jan 2017 22:10:59
Spot on, Ron. Can has issues with his game that he needs to fix, for sure. He has had good games for us this season including the Utd game BUT what I don`t understand, is the new found scapegoating of the boy by many not just on this forum, but on other club forums as well.

They seem to be painting Emre as the reason we are not winning, as if dropping or selling him will suddenly make Origi be high in confidence and score goals, make Studge play better, make Klavan have more pace and make Lovren stop making silly mistakes. That is the part that is baffling to me, not the criticism of a player.

26 Jan 2017 02:29:56
Is right Ron embarrassing isn't it

25 Jan 2017 09:00:14
So, Messi to City. Coutinho to Barca. Grizemann to united. Verratti to Chelsea and Emre Can at Liverpool.
Not bad!

Believable5 Unbelievable12

25 Jan 2017 12:04:57
do you ever give it a rest?

What about all the other players in our team? Or is it easier to focus on one that you don't like?

Heard Kovacic is available, are you going to be saying we should sign him? Or is it Carvalho now?

I wonder if you'll ever be so excited about one of our players as you get about players we are linked with.

25 Jan 2017 13:37:46
He'd whinge even if we were fighting for the title or thereabouts 😉

25 Jan 2017 14:11:39
RedDawn, I think he`s just pulling our legs. I doubt any of those transfers will happen especially if Utd don`t make the CL and Athletic do. As for Emre, it's up to him.

25 Jan 2017 15:07:48
None of those players will be more committed to the team or put more effort in than Emre.

25 Jan 2017 08:41:07
If the we don't make any signings other than cout's contract I'll be a happy man. I had real concerns he might be off in the summer. At least we'll have him for next year and we've got the protection of his contract if/ when it comes to selling him. Good lad Phil!

Believable7 Unbelievable0

25 Jan 2017 10:24:55
Both Suarez and Bale signed contracts 6 months before they moved to Barcelona and Real respectively. I wouldn't read too much into contract at all. I still think he will be off to Barcelona in the summer once they start their rebuilding around Neymar.

25 Jan 2017 12:55:40
Is that you Harry?

25 Jan 2017 14:00:05
As far as I can see, Coutinho is not suarez, I don't see him forcing a transfer as he is happy at Liverpool. He may give klopp another season maybe even 2. and then if a big offer comes in club and player may both be happy to accept.

25 Jan 2017 14:13:06
Doesn't mean Couts won`t leave in the summer. It just means we will be in the driver's seat if a club wants him and when negotiations for his departure begins.

25 Jan 2017 14:25:31
Mathematics here isn't wrong and exactly what I've been saying.

25 Jan 2017 15:09:51
Coutinho will never shaft the club like Suarez did.
Movement is normal in football, if he goes, he goes, but he will never mess the club or the fans around.
