As a United supporter I'm interested to see how you think Liverpool will cope with the champions League and the Prem next season?

I personally think you will need 4-5 new players what's your thoughts chaps?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Depends
With suarez plus 3 decent signings, anything is possible in both
Without, champ league spot only and quarter finals

How do you think united will do with van gaal?

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey,

I think we would do fine without any signings personally. Two would be great. We have a lot of young talent returning and plenty that has impressed when given a chance. I'm looking forward to the extra games!

Agree0 Disagree0

New left back to replace Enrique, a midfielder (Lallana) and a left forward like kono or tello should be enough. Bringing back borini.
Depending on whose in our group I think we should have a decent showing in Europe, we are set out to smash teams with pace. The slower pace of most European teams will struggle to cope. We should also be comfortably in the top 4 again, possibly even another title challenge.
How do you think United will do? I can't see you getting top 4 again if I'm honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers for the interest in our CL campaign I suppose it's not on your agenda next season by any chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

TjRed you would do poorly with no signings just because of the 2 games a week, for myself Van Gaal will give the kick up the arse too man of the United players need he will do very well and even better as we have no euro games imo

Agree0 Disagree0

25 May 2014 22:01:58
We will need several new signings imo to compete on both fronts with the same vigour as last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you're wrong fms. Everyone said we didn't have a chance this year with this squad and we did quite well. Not to mention we r crazy young.

Agree0 Disagree0

Decent left back and centre back.

No CL qualifiers so straight into group.
Only 6 extra games before Xmas. 7 extra games after January.
It's not that much of an extra workload.

Much will depend on how well our players do at the World Cup. They need a nice long rest.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes Mighty Reds interested to give others a chance lol

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we showed tiredness in the last few games of the season because we didn't have enough first choice players to give others a rest. I think 5 or 6 new players is vital if were expecting to play extra games this season. I was surprised Aspas and others didn't get more game time when we were starting to flag - if he doesn't think they are capable of playing in the first team, they shouldn't be on the bench imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we would need a few players at the very least. Maybe 3 but I would still have major concerns over players we have at the moment that had very little impact this season. We could come unstuck next season if they don't produce for the team. Providing they are still here. I hope Liverpool still give their full concentration to the league and make the changes as necessary for the Champion League.

Agree0 Disagree0

As Ken said, it's only only 13 games extra (that's if we get to the final!), people make it sound like a much bigger deal than it actually is.

I expect to see a LB, CM (creative), LW and possibly a DM and CB, I think Brendan will field our youth in the league and FA cup (until/if we get to the latter stages). I think we will achieve a top 3 finish and get to the QF's+ of the UCL.

Agree0 Disagree0

Desperate for quality. Aspas, Moses, Alberto. The list goes on. Players on the bench last season that BR was reluctant to use because they wasn't good enough. He needs to be very very wise in the window, no more Aspas signings. I hope champions league football now prevents Rodgers from shopping in the bargain basement of European football.

Agree0 Disagree0

Quite clearly there is interest in bringing in a Left back, a centre back, a central midfielder (attacking or box to box) and a winger. That is 4 players who I think we will bring in. I suspect Borini will stay as cover and be the 5th. I think that should be enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Blocked, The Irish Rover and DBol. We need more players but especially quality players as Rodgers was clearly reluctant to turn to the likes of Moses and Aspas in the run in.

If we weren't to sign anybody then I couldn't see us finishing top 4, it would be too hard to balance all the matches.

Agree0 Disagree0

I personally Don't see it as just a minimum 6 extra games.

It's a training session less a week, it's added travel.This stuff isn't just to southampton and back. it's to possibly
spain, portugal, germany, italy russia. Playing top teams and a high intensity. It's being stuck on a plane for 14 hours, losing recovery time and sleep. It's playing in the cold of russia, and the heat and humidity of spain.

There's a lot more factors than just 6 extra games here chaps.

I think we need 3 first team players. Coutinho has been hit and miss. Lucas looked rusty when he came back. We looked a different team without Henderson for 3 games.

An extra winger, attacking/creative mid. and a new left back is a must. I'd even throw in getting a top quality rightback if GJ goes, unless we can guarantee MK is going to be fine.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 May 2014 20:47:28
With the interest in Rojo being genuine I must confess I know very little about him. I don't watch an awful lot of Portuguese football but he certainly seems to be positive reviews so I guess I'm reaching out to someone a bit more clued up with the Portuguese league to provide a review on him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 May 2014 20:46:03
Ed, Hypothetically speaking, if you sold Eden Hazard to LFC or Man City, do you think Chelsea would have a better chance of finishing above either side next season? Would those rivals be stronger be stronger? Would Chelsea be weaker? Do you think that would be a good idea?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have absolutely no idea.}

I'd expect no less. Keep to your own lower level in future.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 May 2014 20:29:08
Hi eds, just want to get your thoughts on how the current scouting operation is set up. It appears to me that our scouting is pretty one dimensional in that it appears we focus on looking at the European market. I guess I'm thinking of aspas and Alberto. For the money we paid, can't believe that there isn't some young British talent in the championship/lower leagues that could do a better job? Maybe players like Danny Ings and Charlie Austin just as an example. Does the club still look at the lower leagues in England for players or just focus on European leagues?

Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There will be scouts looking at lower leagues, and there is a scouting system in South America and there will be connections elsewhere, Africa, Australia etc.. It is the same for many clubs but obviously different rules apply about players from Africa, work permits etc. so the majority will be European.}

Eds I know you have told us where interest from Liverpool lies and I know we won't sign everyone we are linked to with some being primary targets and some being secondary targets but out of all the players we have been linked to if you could suggest four players from the list who are Liverpools primary targets. Cheers in advance YNWA JFT96

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to do that.}

25 May 2014 19:38:02
hi eds I've seen a few fans asking if suarez will leave, he has said he is staying plus he wanted to play in the champs league well he will with us, I think he will stay but only if we buy the right players who will give us a decent run in the C/L, i'm not saying suarez has said this or he has asked for certain players but I doubt he will want to get knocked out in the early rounds, and with the right signings by us we wont, but I don't think he wants to leave, he is happy here and wants to win things with Liverpool

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Suarez has said he is staying before and then created all that havoc last summer.

He would going, And comparatively higher % than last summer.

hi eds,

i was watching ilori on youtube and I know what youtube is about only showing the best bits but ilori looks a great prospect, I've read some fans on here saying to loan him out again but I would put him in the squad for next season and bring him on in games for the last 10 to 15 mins and play him in the cups, because the more time he gets playing english football the better he will become and quicker aswell, do you know of any plans for him, our squad is young and full of young talent to come through I always think they get better quicker with playing time in our team, its only my opinion but flanno showed what can be achieved if given the chance to shine, he has come on in leaps and bounds and with another season like last who knows how good he can become, thanks anyway

Would love for LFC to sign Ross Barkley. Can't imagine Everton turning down an offer of £40m.
and LFC to get Ashley Cole on a Free.
Personally feel these 2 players would have massive impact on us pushing on as a team.
As for who I would like to see leave?
Iago Aspas. Luis Alberto. Oussama Assaidi. Martin Kelly, . Pepe Reina, . Jose Enrique. Sebastian Coates. Kristian Adorjan. Connor Coady. Lucas Leiva. and one of Skrtel/Agger. that should easy raise £50m odd.
The reason I'd get rid is majority have not put in any sort of contribution this season gone or are unlikely to, and a couple who are close to 30 now.
Ross Barkley & Ashley Cole aside I think Xerdhan Shaqiri, Javi Martinez, Mateo Kovacic, Micah Richards, William Carvallho, Mario Suarez, Yan M'Vila, Alexis Sanchez are the calibre of player we should target (obviously funds permitting).
Andy Carroll did not warrant a £35m bid but a player like Ross Barkley does, that boy will be a Superstar I have absolutely no doubts and LFC need to make a statement of intent by doing whatever it takes to sign him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

BASHIR, wake-up and stop dreaming.

Agree0 Disagree0

40 million pounds?

Not ever going to happen unless we sell Assaidi for 100 million to Stoke.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 million for Emre Can is a better deal than Barkley for 40 million.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's not going to sign for Liverpool is he mate come on. I agree with you on the kind of player we should be signing though. We need quality, no more punts on unproven players we need top class talent now

Agree0 Disagree0

Emre Can is top talent, unproven in prem yes but I think he could be very good value for money.

Agree0 Disagree0

Barkley is NOT a 40m-pound player, period.

Agree0 Disagree0

40 million?

If he has a good World Cup, I think you are going to be surprised by how much Everton would ask for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Evening eds

I noticed that in one of your last posts about Iturbe you mentioned Porto won't be keen to sell and he probably won't go to Verona- seeing as though he is going to Verona now (Sorrh for sounding patronising!) do you see Verona keeping him or selling him on for more? If you do see them selling are there any teams already interested?

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - They have purchased him simply to sell him on with a rather nice financial reward as he would not of otherwise joined as I said. They have already had confirmation of interest from two sides and are trying very hard to get interest from a third. None of this involves Liverpool at this time.}

Cheers ed

This Is unbelievable either ways, Correct or Incorrect. Juventus could get Sanchez for less than 18 mill quoted.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - You are making up numbers again Harry. It is all absolute nonsense and there is no "18 million quoted". Could you stop putting numbers in as I delete a lot of your posts because of it.}

25 May 2014 18:57:03
Yeaa I ll stop it.

Hy Ed2
I m just here last few days and going mad with the players linked with Liverpool on daily. I knew u dnt get involved into money talks but I just want to know do u expect lfc to make big money signings this summer or it is same like all other windows. Do we expect marquee signings.
Plz do response your response will be appreciated.
Thanxxxx

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what "big money" means, nor really "marquee". I suspect much will depend on who leaves in terms of a "marquee" signing. I have no doubts that Liverpool will spend a decent amount of money.}

25 May 2014 16:56:04
Ashley cole
Caulker
I think that would be a good stepping stone to improving from last season, not sure if Brendan will wait till after World Cup or if he knows what players he wants already.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

GIBBO79, your havin a laugh.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gibbo79, you're joking right? Caulker a good stepping stone over last season? Ridiculous.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 May 2014 16:43:08
My question is, apart from any defenders we have linked with a wealth of attacking players, instead of caulker are they're any good targets available? If they are, would Lfc go for them?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what the question is? The answer almost certainly "read the posts".}

25 May 2014 16:00:50
Hi eds,

Do you think there could be salary restrictions in the future and not just transfer spending?

Thanks,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Not specifically in terms of individuals but there are already some restrictions in respect of UEFA's FFP in respect of the growth rate of the individual club's total wage bill. EPL restrictions are planned that will see a limit against the turnover of the club (e.g. total wages must be less than 60% of turnover - or whatever.}

25 May 2014 14:37:32
I really got to thinking last night about the defensive issues. I think we have been too harsh on our defenders. They had a lot of ground to cover; I think if we would've gone back to 4231 it would have eased our troubles. Sure, we may not have scored as much, but goals against killed us. I got to thinking, how great would it be to see xabi alongside Gerrard in those roles orchestrating midfield.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

TjRED, this is how it's going to be RODGER'S has said he's an attack-minded coach who won't compromise his principles, so this is how it's going to be.enjoy the ride.I believe the great managers can marry attacking and defending but then again I don't believe RODGER'S is a great manager, 2 seasons in and were still talking about the same problems.top managers build from the back first.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seriously are people still looking at Xabi Alonso, let's move on, team needs new superstars not the old boys back, scout the new greats lads

Agree0 Disagree0

25 May 2014 14:11:47
Im new on here but been told Liverpool have bid for qpr striker remy, haven't heard anything regarding the price will keep you updated, cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would be good to have powerful striker like him to compete with SAS, he can play the way we play or target man if needed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not a fan myself. Not sure he would be any good for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is not a bad player, likes to play on the shoulder of defenders and latch onto through balls. He would do well in our team as he is also not a bad finisher. By no means top draw but def an upgrade on aspas and could contribute off the bench.

Would I buy him? Well that's another story.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 May 2014 13:08:32
I really think Steven Gerrard is treading on dangerous ground wishing ill on Luis Suarez for the England match, knowing how delicate the Suarez situation is I think he's been really stupid with his coments and something like this could be the amunition Suarez needs were madrid or barcelona to come in for him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Think you're exaggerating it.
Suarez knows Gerrard wants him in a LFC shirt next season. This is just World Cup banter

Agree0 Disagree0

Sense of humour springs to mind.

Agree0 Disagree0

Give over, he's not wishing ill on Suarez at all, it's just harmless banter.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 May 2014 12:45:39
Ed we have been linked with so many people since the end of the season and the transfer window hasn't even started yet! We've been linked with the like if Pedro, Sanchez, Griezman, lallana and loads more who do you expect to make the switch this summer to anfield?

Great site!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I can tell you where the interest is - I don't want to get in to crystal ball gazing.}

25 May 2014 12:37:39
Carlo Ancelotti has now become the second manager in history to win 3 European Cups alongside Bob Paisley. Carlo will undoubtedly look to strengthen his squad for next season's assault with Luis Suarez being the prime striking target.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He may do, however, I believe Suarez will stay at LFC. We are also looking to strengthen, and we will bring in the right players. We will build the team around Suarez. Reckon we'll win the UCL next season, as they say.

Agree0 Disagree0

As long as we sign the right players we will be tough to beat both home and away Kash. We need to stop conceding so many goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 May 2014 15:18:03
Spurs were looking at bringing anchelotti if real lost yesterday lol that's near as funny as the man who said Brendan would take the celtic job.

any chance of singing both alexis sanchez 18m and Yevhen Konoplyanka 12.1m both look a steal at them prices and can play any where across the front. what an attacking 5 they would be

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Try the search function.}

Barcelona will be rebuilding their squad this summer and Sanchez will be sold for a lot more than that for funding other transfers.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 May 2014 12:22:11
Sanchez will most likely end up at Juventus. Kono was subject to interest from Liverpool in Jan, But since then We haven't had any interest in the player.
Man UTD, Spurs and PSG are making some noises. The player would love to play in CL, Which makes us pretty favorite, But BR seems have some other plans,

Agree0 Disagree0

AG, 18M is the apparent asking fee, I can''t see them getting much more then £20M, he's hardly set La Liga alight.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 May 2014 13:08:53
Juventus won't pay over the odds, I don't see them splashing anything more than 20 mill on him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Plymouth, 18 million is not the asking fee.

Sanchez has 39 goals and 25 assists in 88 La Liga appearances over 32 years. I think they are pretty impressive for a player who has been denigrated and put in the shadow of Messi.

At the right team, he could be an outstanding player.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to laugh when I read different articles every single day this week stating 'Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Can'
How long does it take to get to Germany?! I know it's purely lazy journalism but you can't help but picture Ian Ayre being sent over to Germany on a skateboard or Ayre and Rodgers on one of the tiny little motorbikes like in Dumb and Dumber!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If only transfers were as easy as you think.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ha I just read us linked to ballotelli! We would never go for him, scores some blinders but come on journos

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm laughing at journalists repeating themselves on a daily basis on the off chance that Liverpool do actually "close in" on a deal for Can. There's a reason I put this on the banter page.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 22:59:22
Ed's Is there any likelyhood that the transfer system will be changed back to the old system rather than having just the two transfer windows (I am not including the various other arrangements for fee agents, loans etc)?

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Not, at least at the EPL level, in the near future.}

25 May 2014 05:29:55
Thanks for the reply Ed002.

Agree0 Disagree0

You're right mate. The two transfer windows add to the anxieties of supporters and clubs. Some may argue it it adds spice to the Premier League (and some may argue it contributes to the up-keep of a certain rumour site), but in my opinion, it causes untold stress and is a result of laziness, greed and with an unprofessional and sometimes bullying approach. We need to consider the smaller clubs in scenarios like this and should allow for a smoother more consistent team standard without having players heads turned every two minutes.

Let's go back to the old way!

Agree0 Disagree0

Is there any news on the ''managers window'' that was spouted about. The club will only be able to make managerial changes in transfer like windows.

It seemed a bit match box theory like. Not even sure if it got off the ground before it crashed and burned or if it was supported by the blue sky thinkers. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I would not hold out too much hope for such plans.}

Managers could be sacked for any number of reasons, for example look at tranmere. They would be stuck all season without a first team coach and the whole club suffers. Players can be stuck in the reserves if they are naughty until the transfer window.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 May 2014 21:21:40
Eds, aside from a bit about Vorm I haven't seen anything that suggests we are looking for a replacement for Mignolet (which we should be in my view). Do you think a new number 1 is likely and who might be the likely candidates?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No.}

24 May 2014 20:09:05
Hello eds, I'm a forum virgin so please be gentle. I've noticed you saying quite a lot of who LFC are not persuing, but can you shed any light on who they are please? :o)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - You could read the posts - people as about random players and should not be surprised if the answer is no, but where there is interest I will say.}

OK, the following are the players LFC have looked at or inquired after or shown an interest in or have placed a bid for.

Right backs: Joao Cancelo (Benfica).

Left backs: Caner Erkin (Fenerbache), Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea), Marcos Rojo (Sporting Lisbon).

Center backs: Dejan Lovren (Southampton), Hector Moreno (Espanyol), Steven Caulker (Swansea), Martin Hinteregger (Salzburg).

Central Midfield: Will Hughes (Derby), Dani Parejo (Valencia), Emre Can (Leverkusen), Adam Lallana (Southampton), Roberto Firmino (Hoffenheim), Ivan Rakitic (Sevilla).

Wingers: Viktor Fischer (Ajax), Juan Guilermo Cuadrado (Fiorentina), Xherdan Shaqiri (Bayern), Yevhen Konoplyanka (Dnipro), Dusan Tadic (Twente), Cristian Tello (Barcelona).

Forwards: Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon), Heung-Min Son (Leverkusen).

Think most of the top 6 have or are looking at those players as well

Agree0 Disagree0

The only players that stand out or even improve our squad in that list are lallana, lovren, konoplyanka or shaqiri. the rest are no better than aspras or kelly

Agree0 Disagree0

Caulker plays for Cardiff not Swansea

Agree0 Disagree0

Tonkz99, did you really just say that? I would suggest you need to go and actually watch some of those named players play.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Gibbo.

Tonkz99, you are not the best judge of a player if you think Rakitic, Firmino or Hintregger are not good enough.
