Just putting it out their would anyone take Gael clichy on a free transfer?

Believable7 Unbelievable11

25 May 2017 22:56:12
Hell no! Awful player.

25 May 2017 23:03:04
The idea of buying Clichy doesn't really excite me, but I do think he'd be an upgrade on what we currently have. He's 31, so it would only be a short-term fix. But if the plan was to slowly phase him out and Sessegnon in over the next season or so, maybe that's something that would work.

He's probably better than Andrew Robertson, who seems the most likely alternative at this stage. Ideally, I'd like to see us get someone better than both of them.

25 May 2017 23:29:11
No thanks. Clichy is decidedly average and cannot even push a very average defender in Kolarov.

26 May 2017 03:17:26
Clichy was an average player even during his prime. Do you really want Klopp wasting money on him when he is entering the 'pensioner' stage of his career? As the Eds have constantly reminded us, the plan is to sign Sessegnon and loan him back for a season, and and sign a senior LB to hold fort for the next couple of seasons till Sessegnon is ready to be our first choice LB. So its going to be Sessegnon plus someone like Mendy or Bertrand.
Don't need any of City's washed up rejects.

26 May 2017 09:14:33
No thanks, lazy money grubber, not good enough for city why is he good enough for a champions league side. Bertrand, sessegnon would be ideal combo for me.

26 May 2017 17:36:44
Clichy? Thanks but I'll pass on a has-been.

25 May 2017 21:43:57
Hi all. was doing my usual scouting on youtube. as everyone does. Every video of sessegon just shows how great he can attack. but can he defend as i have not seen any of it?
And my second youtube revelation ( as youtube is soo reliable and unbias :) ) Brandt seems to play a lot through the centre. is not too quick and predominantly Right footed. Please enlighten us with your truth eds if you have the time. Thanks

Ps im likeng this rumour of salah from roma.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - Klipperty has the klops for both players. There is no doubting they are nifty as you can imagine so it would be an improvement.}

26 May 2017 07:48:36
"Has the Klops" - brilliant!

26 May 2017 11:38:53
To say that Brandt isn't quick is ridiculous. He is quick, he's also got quick feet and has good distribution. To me he's a better bet than Salah because Salah has already proved that he's not up to it in the premier league and Roma want a stupid fee for him.

26 May 2017 17:37:02
Craigu, do not miss quickness for pace, my friend. Brandt may not be a pacer like mane but to say he is not quick, is incorrect. The guy is young but well-advanced for his age and can play any where behind the striker but mainly plays on the left. he has good dribbling ability. Salah could not hack it in the PL and rejected us so what exactly would he be doing here?

25 May 2017 16:50:41
Interestingly Dejan Lovren has made it into the Sky Sports Fantasy Football team of the season. Make of that what you will.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

25 May 2017 17:26:32
Must have got points for assists against and inability to deal with set plays. Incredible.

25 May 2017 17:31:02
Great achievement, what a defender. Solid as rock and most definitely worth his £100k a week.

25 May 2017 18:05:02
Just to clarify I'm clearly being sarcastic.

25 May 2017 18:59:54
Let this be a lesson to anyone who throws stats about.

Stats are a load of plums.

25 May 2017 19:25:37
He actually got 9th best centre half in Europe according to the echo on 17 may.

Crazy or what?

I think its mainly to do with minutes played.

25 May 2017 19:31:46
Sky sports.

25 May 2017 21:44:32
At least it's good for his potential transfer value if anyone wants him.

25 May 2017 22:46:27
It's because he's a decent centre half. unfortunately Matip is a liability who needs to raise his game.

25 May 2017 23:15:05
its stats like these that make us buy average players.

25 May 2017 23:53:52
You missed the Palace game then Weller?

26 May 2017 07:45:49
Oh the joy of reading all of our 'fans' slam all if our players. It must be delightful to play for lfc knowing that the fans hate you.

We just finished 4th in the league and I think that most people can see that it's our record against the relegation fodder that stopped us from doing better. If Mane, Lallana and Coutinho hadn't spent so much time injured who knows what could have happened.

Whatever happened to actually getting behind your team?

26 May 2017 11:45:08
Red Nick,

Its a little bit ironic that you call out our fans for their disrespect towards the players etc, and how clearly they read these things and it affects their attitude, which i do agree with on some levels.

Then in the following paragraph you go on to call any teams in the bottom half of the table 'relegation fodder', because why? they're not quite as good as some of our players? Are they not affected by comments like that as well? Is that cool because they're not 'Liverpool'? .

If you're going to wave the wand of justice mate, you have to be consistent.

25 May 2017 15:27:40
Ed002 - isn't this the time when Macca usually comes in with some rumours/ news? Haven't heard from him in a bit.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I understand from Ed001 that he is very busy.}

25 May 2017 16:56:43
I wouldn't be surprised if, after the amount of abuse Macca has taken from a number of moronic Liverpool supporters, he decides not to share any information with us.

A right shame because he is one of the very few posters that seems to have real contacts and information to share. Not like most posters who pretend to be, in the know.

Either way, all the best to Macca and I hope he will come back one day but if not, all the best.

25 May 2017 17:32:43
There's idiots everywhere mate, there were plenty who would ignore everything eds2 would say because macca had said something different, it gets daft at times. I look at it like this, people are good enough to share info and if there are different views, consider them both and make up your own mind, stop shooting messengers though.

25 May 2017 14:11:12
Regarding Milner
He does deserve a lot of credit. he's played out of position and he did it for the team and klopp
A true professional
He never came out and said I'm off etc.
He said he'll play anywhere for the team
Not heard that a lot for a good few years. old school
I'd like to thank him not constantly pick him out.

Believable29 Unbelievable3

25 May 2017 15:09:08
Fair call - absolute professional and huge respect to him for sorting a position that was a big liability for us when he would have rather played elsewhere.

25 May 2017 15:17:16
Well said. and I totally agree. Milner is a model proffessional and always gives 100%. He's been a great asset to Liverpool Football Club since joining us.

25 May 2017 16:31:44
I hope he stays next season, good squad player that'll we need at times no doubt. Surprised he didn't win players player this season with his dazzling personality and interesting post match interviews 🤔.

25 May 2017 16:29:48
Great lad and a selfless pro who really cares about something much bigger than himself as in, the team. Bravo for your efforts, sir.

25 May 2017 17:51:22
He not only saved the team, but LFC "management" from a lot of embarrassment, too. What if Milner had decided he wouldn't play left-back? This happens fairly regularly when a player is told to do something he does not want to do. Can you imagine the uproar over not being able to find a competent left-back in this day and age, and being saddled with Moreno for an entire season? Would we still end up 4th? I don't mean to slate a gentleman who has moved on and left the organization, but seriously, this is Liverpool Football club! Ambitious teams have 2 players, sometimes 3, for each position and yet we ended up in a situation of having to rely on a right-footed midfielder playing in the left-back position for an entire season. I'm aware Alexander-Arnold is around but cameo appearances and brief flashes of brilliance does not an entire season make! There's obviously relief all around because Milner did an okay job. But I seriously hope the lesson has been learnt, and we don't continue such amateurish thinking and moves this summer.

25 May 2017 18:17:09
What I like about Milner is his honesty. One interview he said straight up, I don't like playing left back, but that's where klopp has asks me to play. Has played the most games surely? Has to stay next season if you ask me.

{Ed025's Note - good utility player benny..

25 May 2017 21:34:55
He's a good pro, an honest footballer and always can be relied upon to put a shift in. Never goes missing.

Middlesbrough Season Review

25 May 2017 13:31:55
{Ed's Note - We have posted a new article entitled, Middlesbrough Season Review

Believable2 Unbelievable0

25 May 2017 16:28:49
Ouch!

25 May 2017 18:20:46
When you take into account the negatives (not sure they're allowed, Ed001, you been learning from Jeremy Clarkson?! ) its an average of just over 2 per person (including managers) . Not bad, lol!

{Ed001's Note - I was trying to be nice as well! And negatives are always allowed, else how can you enjoy the positives when you have nothing to set them against? Not that there were many (any?) for Boro.}

25 May 2017 19:06:30
Sorry mate, I meant negative marks. A bit harsh scoring them less than 0!

Its the mathematical aesthete in me ;)

{Ed001's Note - but they were hindering the team with their performances. 0 would be for no effect.}

25 May 2017 19:18:58
Fair enough! My OCD was just kicking into overdrive!

{Ed001's Note - sorry mate, I will make an effort to think about that in future. Once I have thought about it, I will ignore it and carry on as usual ;-)

25 May 2017 11:35:54
with Manninger announcing his retirement this summer, i assume we are going to go for a similar kind of player as our 3rd choice rather than ward.

In the ed's opinion what should a 3rd goalkeepers qualities be, as usually it is a rarity that they will play so is it more their experience to bring to the squad than anything else?

to everyone, whoever comes in remember, we are liverpool, we support the team and the players through thick and thin.

Onwards and upwards, we march on!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The third pick goalkeeper eith needs to be a youngster who plays regularly for the U23s or it needs to be someone like Manninger, Eduardo or Given etc. - someone who is experienced and useful enough to help the kids but not expected to play a regular part.}

25 May 2017 15:18:13
Given how unlikely it is the position will be required I would be fine to use Grabara as backup - he looks a very good keeper even if only 18 / 19 year old next season.

25 May 2017 17:39:13
I think there is a massive advantage to having an older keeper. They can serve almost as a dressing room father figure, but you ask Kane how important to his early development Brad Freidel was. Staying behind after training with him for hours to help him work on his shooting.

There is more to a squad than just having young talented players. Experience cannot be taught.

25 May 2017 19:02:21
Older keepers are good for making the brews and running and collecting the ball when it goes over the bar.

25 May 2017 11:11:37
Morning,

Some reports emerged last night from German press that Brandt will leave Leverkusen and Bundesliga this summer. I recall assurances were required over game time for the player, is there a possibility these have been given by Liverpool to the player and/ or representatives? Is the report even accurate to your knowledge?

I appreciate your time.

All the best

JJ.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what the reports say not who has said what. If it is the club or his agent it has credibility.}

25 May 2017 11:21:15
Thank you for the swift reply, Ed002. Have a good day.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome - but I would be interested to know who has said what.}

25 May 2017 12:18:06
As would I.

25 May 2017 12:18:06
As would I.

25 May 2017 14:51:24
Been keeping an eye out for info regarding Brandt. All I've seen is reports suggesting the Klopp has given up on him and turned his attention to Salah. From what I've seen, Brandt to Bayern looks to be back on.

25 May 2017 16:04:13
The public utterances and private intentions of managers and players can be miles apart at this time of year.

25 May 2017 16:48:49
I wouldn't read too much in that idea that Klopp gave up on Brandt as the Ed's have said the complete opposite of that repeatedly, saying that Brandt is Klopp's first choice and the player is open to the move but needs guarantees of first team football on the left side since normally, Couts plays there. The Salah thing should be taken with a pinch of salt, IMO.

25 May 2017 10:26:23
Luan is set to sign a new, lucrative deal with Gremio, complete with a clause that will protect the club from European offers.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

25 May 2017 11:56:21
If so he was clearly not Luan for us.

I'll get my coat.

25 May 2017 12:14:52
TBH I wasn't overly impressed with us signing Luan.
I'd much rather us go all out for Timo Werner. although I know it would be very difficult to tempt Leipzig to sell him.

25 May 2017 12:16:50
I think he's going to Guilherme another year Zeddicus. get mine whilst your there mate.

25 May 2017 16:51:11
I didn't think he was coming anyway nor was I convinced that he is what we need so not bothered at all.

25 May 2017 19:34:49
We'll just have to focus for another Luan.

26 May 2017 00:42:59
There are 1,133 players named Luan registered in the Brazil Football Confederation. (First and middle name included) . Better get started now with picking another one, if you want one before next season starts.

{Ed007's Note - Och I'm sure some on here could come up with 1,133 formations to accommodate each one.}

25 May 2017 10:15:39
Hi Ed001 is Clichy going to be available on a free this summer? Do you see him as a good option with the young fulham lad going back on loan?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - no idea but no way would he be a good signing. May as well stick with Milner.}

25 May 2017 11:29:14
Cool think he might be an improvement on Milner personally (not a huge one) but I suspect a large wage and fee would put weigh that.

25 May 2017 16:51:56
Clichy is over the hill and should be left there.

25 May 2017 09:29:16
Hi ed. Just reading the Echo (sigh) I no. Its saying that Gremio are saying there has been no contact or offer from Lfc for Luan and the speculation has led to the player getting an improved deal with clauses not allowing a sale to Europe based clubs. Unless i've got it wrong.

Is this a new development that will hamper our attempts now or does the situation with him remain as youve explained?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have explained over and over that Liverpool had not made an offer and that there could be nothing done without resolving his ownership issues. Read the post please.}

25 May 2017 09:41:48
Hey Edds and posters I was wondering if there had been any news on the Gaston Ramirez transfer that edd 2 mentioned.
I believe edd 2 said the club's were trying to get the transfer done at the game at the weekend.
I've not seen anything mentioned on here or on the news. Many thanks.

Believable3 Unbelievable8

25 May 2017 09:58:01
Unless I'm mistaken that was in jest, unless your post is also in jest of course 😊.

25 May 2017 13:24:30
Thanks Higgins for clearing that up for me. I fell for it. I thought ed 2 had a scoop before everyone else enjoy your day.

25 May 2017 13:45:37
Piqued my interest so much I had to RTFP, best decision I've made on this site 😂.

25 May 2017 16:52:33
Gaston Ramirez is so 2012.

25 May 2017 18:33:23
So when is Konoplyanka signing?

25 May 2017 22:49:46
We're still waiting on the paperwork from their owner, Andy. Will Ayre loan his hog to Michael Edwards to get this deal done? Is it all a smokescreen to finally sign Juan Mata?

25 May 2017 09:26:06
Hi Eds, heard that Luan has agreed a new deal with his club. So we can forget him this summer and move on?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

25 May 2017 10:03:03
I've also heard this.

But I don't really understand how the issue of 3rd party ownership etc works and perhaps this is a confusion over them trying to sort out those issues before he moves to Liverpool?

In any event, i will wait to hear from the Eds instead of the tabloids.

25 May 2017 08:36:07
I know LFC have done well to qualify for Champions League but Man United have one the trophy that had eluded them, whereas Liverpool are still to win the Premiership. Next season maybe.

Believable2 Unbelievable6

25 May 2017 08:42:33
It's our year, mate :)

25 May 2017 09:16:17
HL9

The Europa league according to manc fans years ago is the mickey mouse cup and not one they even wanted to be in.

Would the trophy mean as much to them if it didn't get them champions league football? I think not.

25 May 2017 16:56:24
The EL is the same trophy that manc fans trashed (when twe kicked them out of it), the one Mou loathed for years (until he won it) and the one they were least interested in (until they got kicked out of the top 4 slots) so tho, it is a trophy, they lack any credibility in trying to celebrate a trophy along with the EFL Cup, they have been bashing relentlessly for years esp. after spending almost 200m this season.

25 May 2017 20:17:24
Lack credibility? Jose wasn't in charge last year when we failed to secure CL football. So his hands were tied in that although like everyone we would rather play in the CL, we had to play in the Europa. We end up winning it, along with the league cup, and in his first season its two trophies. Yes they're not the two we all want. But it's still good to win, to ingrain a winning mentality into the squad, for the future. Also CL qualification. What were you expecting us to do? Win it and trudge off the pitch? Come on.

{Ed025's Note - you should know better than to expect liverpool fans to appreciate any united success stand, im sure if they had won the league (some hope) that no united fan would come on these pages and congratulate them mate, thats football rivalry for you im afraid..

26 May 2017 11:37:23
I don't rate the Europa. No one else did either which is why they dangled the carrot of CL qualification if you won it. And I rate the League Cup even less. But Stand-United is right - its crucial for a club to establish a winning culture and Mourinho looks like he is doing that. They have some good players, will buy even better players this transfer period and they are less of a dogs breakfast than they were last year. So Man United fans have reason for some optimism.
