According to the mirror
fergie wants to sign reina for 12million
also reina blames liverpool flops for torres not scoring

25 Oct 2010 23:45:46

(I would include Konchesky, Jovanovic and Poulsen in this list but doubt they would be sold only months after being bought, unfortunately)

what abouk keane? was sold 6 months after he was bought. so its not impossible

25 Oct 2010 23:43:30

If the rumours are true that Roy wants five new players in January I would like to see. .

Arda Turan
Hulk
Ryan Shawcross
Ashley Young
Javi Martinez

Imagine. .

Reina/ Jones

Johnson/ Kelly Carragher/ Shawcross Agger/ Skrtel Aurelio/ Konchesky

Turan/ Maxi Meireles/ Lucas Gerrard/ Cole Young/ Jovanovic

Torres/ Kuyt Hulk/ Ngog

Makings of a pretty decent squad I think.

I have just twitted landon dolovan and said to him
are you going to be joining everton again or going to join a big club like liverpool

Dalglish could be flying with KLM but it doesn't really matter. If he is flying from Amsterdam then it is logical that he would fly with KLM or Easyjet. If he has booked Easyjet this week then it is more expensive than KLM. The other alternative is to fly from Manchester which wouldn't make any sense at all. There are several Dutch players that are interesting to Liverpool and he could have been watching any of them.

Totally agree with this statement , ive been looking at alexis sanchez on youtube hes a young pacey winger with trickery , just the sort of player we need to be able to unlock opposition defences. Surely he wouldn't be too expensive a club like udinese would welcome a £12 - £15m bid? but did someone say he is a mank fan?

Im sure NESV can supply us with at least a £40m - £50m transfer budget , they need to spend big now to get us back at the top. i think id prefer £60m now instead of £30m jan and £30m at the end of the season, so we can start building now and get the talent in now to fire us back to the top :D

Hi Ed and fellow readers. I was just reading through the comments and this website has just made my day!. I read that Liverpool were scouting the dazzling Alexis Sanchez!. Ed please tell me if this is true, your thoughts and your prediction on this!. Surely all the comments can't be untrue!. Ed this boy would light the premier up! . Awwwww gosh i live in hope that we get him!.
{Editor's note - I know that RH was very interested in him when he took over and had scouts watching him. Not sure if anything has developed though}

Two points-
first off, you know how samba was an emergency striker for blackburn a while back? maybe Soto could do that with Torres, just a funny idea
and second off, what he hedoublehockeysticks happened to plessis? was brilliant against fabregas two years ago, and have hardly seen him since. i heard something online about itandje being a disruptive influence on him, comments?

25 Oct 2010 22:36:15

Dream team for after January

Pepe
johnson agger cara konchesky
banega gerrard
mata cole sanchez
torres

Gerrard is better behind torres but with players we've got hes better off for us deeper and him and banegas passing ability would be awesome

25 Oct 2010 22:36:05

To be honest with you, that's why I stated the original post. .i was getting a bit tired of the same things being said on this website about roy, and wanted to hear other perspectives. I still think GJo is a better player, but would be more comfortable in a 5 man defense or at right wing. kelly, to be honest, does look like a quality player, and I realize that I sound pretty ignorant with the Derby County comment, i'm forgetting these guys are still kids and some have ten years to grow. Maybe Kelly at RB with Johnson at RM?
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Totally agree mate Glen would be better at RW than RB. A lot of fans on here have spotted Glen's major flaw that he gets caught out to many times and dosn't seem to be aware of what's happening around him especially in the box. Were Kelly has still a lot to learn but for me already has a better footballing brain than Johnson who is a seasoned International.

Don't get me wrong i still rate Glen but not as our right back especially if we have Kelly waiting in the wings.

Just saw this comment on Sky sports made me laugh

"Matthew peter Elliott (Liverpool fan) says. .
I must say as a fan I am absolutely delighted with the result yesterday. Poor Roy is doing a fantastic job and isn''''t getting the recognition he deserves because the results haven''''t quite gone his way. He is a great and I''''m sure in a few years everyone will be in complete agreement with me. You only need to look at what he achieved over many decades, he¿s been successful in pretty much of Scandinavia, Inter have offered him a job many times and he¿s always on those really important panels. I was so angered as a fan when we got rid of Souness he had the unenviable task of rebuilding much the same as Hodgson and I will be gutted if they got rid of Hodgson too. The man deserves credit for the way he plays the game, all out attack isn''''t football, it¿s a patient game. I also cite the problems we''''ve had by not being able to get targets such as Zamora and Luke Young, both of them are proven match winners, and Roy can spot a great player when he wants, Poulsen was an absolute bargain, and finally we have a left back who is fantastic going forward and defending ¿ he¿s a cert to get in the England team now. The way I see it we now have 29 cup finals and at the end of that we will have won the league. I had no time for Rafa all he did was buy overrated players such as Alonso, money grabbers such as Mascherano and sulkers like Torres, not mentioning the amount of mistakes Reina makes, Arphexad was just as good and at least he saved penalties!"

25 Oct 2010 22:32:50

Same names discussed every single day, turan, banega, swp, mata, cole etc. theres more players out there in these positions that i personally believe would be better options.
lb capdevilla/ Marcelo/ Jansen/ Maxwell
rw/ lw krasic/ honda/ navas
dm de jong/ Tymoshchuk/ l diarra
str higuain/ forlan/ llorente/ fabiano
what you think ed? personally, any 1 from each list would make me happy
{Editor's note - Each of the above players mentioned woould improve the team}

25 Oct 2010 22:32:22

I genually do not understand why people seem to think johnson is awful. personally i think he is the best RB in the league and England. These days a full back can't be ultra defencive because they offer more width to teams. also he's still fairly young and english so just give him a chance he is the best we have got. :)
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
agreed, nobody yells at Maicon for being a poor defender! the problem is, we're hardly an attacking team, and so we rely on him for our width, and this responsibility costs him defensively.

25 Oct 2010 22:28:20

Konchesky is very poor, not good enough to wear a Liverpool kit.

Please play Pacheco, he will become a star player in two seasons! Play him up there with Torres. PLEASE

We need some pace on the flanks and a support for Torres.

Stop raving about the Greek, he scored a goal. . Well done but he has still got a long way to go.

Lucas is poor, Kuyt is a work horse but we need some pace. .

Pass and move, pass and move and keep hold of the football!

Bye bye Babel your not interested.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
People are raving about the Greek because he is a greatly underestimated player, he practically saved Rafa's job last year with his string of about 10 games during March (correct me if I'm wrong), and now he's continuing that form this year. He's our joint top scorer, he's beginning to look a little like Hyppia (not as good, I know)
and regarding lucas, he's been unfortunate. he was put in at the deep end last season, was actually one of our better players, and yet people continue to criticize him. yes, he has a few howlers, but maybe if he was in his natural position, we would see his true form!

I am one who does not feel kelly is good enough for Liverpool FC. Was shocking against Northampton Town, imagine what Prem players will do to him
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
He may have been "shocking" against Northampton but he more than made up for it away to Napoli.

He was up against 3 so called world class players i.e Cavani, Hamsik and Lavezzi. Especially Hamsik who had to be substituted in the 2nd half as he and the rest wern't testing young Kelly at all. And remember his natural position is centre back.

In short mate i don't think you know what you're talking about as i think that Kelly is a better RB than Johnson who cost £17 mill.

Blair Mayne YNWA
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
better than Johnson? are you off your rocker? I think GJohnson gets a lot of bad press from the English because he is an English player, and that filters into the LFC Fans' views of him. Shelvey, Pacheco, and a couple of others are the only youth he have right now, the rest are Derby County level at best

Blair am with you mate. Kelly is strong, fast, good in the air and floor, genuine passion for the club everything we need in a DEFENDER (capitals to get the statement across to the original poster). Where as G.Johnson has no defensive qualities what so ever. He is more a right sided midfielder! And to the original poster you say "bad press" go the games mate, you don't need to read the papers to see how shocking he has been. Most of our defensive errors have come from the right hand side (where does Johnson play? ?)
And another thing you mention about our youth. Sorry but are you off your 'rocker' as you put it? Derby County level? Aside the TWO youth you have mentioned, you have failed to mention the likes of Suso, Amoo, Ince, Ayala, Wilson, Robinson, N'goo (still young but has bags of ability) Wisdom, Eccleston, Sterling & Tony Silva and that's just off the top of my head!

Another note Ed, Fernando Llorente is a player liverpool should look at. Him or Dzeko would compliment Torres & Gerrard.

James Mc

{Editor's Note: Llorente is an excellent player but I personally doubt that he would be available for a move to Liverpool. Dzeko I am much less keen on and it is very likely, in my view, that he will go anywhere other than Juventus in the summer.}

the biggest problem with all these debates on martin kelly as a right back is a small fact that all you armchair fans seem to forget. he has always been a centre back since a kid!
as liverpool fans you should surely be aware of this with sooooo much player knowledge? good or bad, he is being played out of position. and just for the record i believe he is good. everyone was poor that night against northampton

s.p {ed's note - Kelly is an excellent player, the only reason he didn't get more games last season were injuries. Hopefully this season he will avoid injuries and get more matches, he is already a superior right back by Johnson, despite having only played a few games on the right.}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
s.p I understand what your saying about his position, but as a 1st team player he is playing RB. Professional defenders should have the ability to play anywhere across the back line. Kelly is a awesome talent with bags of ability. I just hope like the ed he gets more playing time. But that sarcastic 'player knowledge' comment is nonsense, i know my football inside out. I go home and away and as many reserve games as i can! So before you judge someone on a post relating to performances for the 1st / reserve teams am sure I have the right to post a comment. that puts me onto the 'arm chair supporter' where you getting that statement from?

James Mc
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
This is what you call a good football debate. I posted my opinion then a few come back and post theirs. I don't like the phrase "arm chair supporter" as i'm not fortunate to live in the same country never mind city. So that would probably make me an "arm chair supporter" but the level of debate on here is great.

I go on to the MAN'URE site and read their crap and give them a bit of banter. But their level of "football knowledge" is non-existent. They are to busy arguing over what sandwiches are the nicest at OT "Salmon or Prawn".

IMO Kelly is a better RB than Johnson who would be far better playing Right Midfield.

We don't need Honda at the momment ED we need another quality striker. We have done for 3-4 years Llorente/ Saurez hopefully.

Blair Mayne YNWA {ed's note - Honda is a quality striker, who is also a quality left winger, left back, attacking midfielder or central midfielder.}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I agree Ed Honda is a good striker but for me he's a better attacking midfielder and would be better playing just off Torres. But we need an out and out striker to either play up alongside Torres or more likely to play up top as the main striker when Torres gets injured. And Llorente and Saurez could do a better job than Honda.

There's no doubt i would like to see Honda at the club but if you give me limited funds then an out and out striker is our main priorty.

Agree. Kuyt is a good back-up striker, provided there's service to him. Striker is there to score and not to create goalscoaring opportunities that are so often on Torres' shoulders.

If we hve a fit squad until xmas we can go on an unbeaten run! we hve gud enough players FACT!
at Anfield i wud always field this formation an team:

carra soto aggerjohnson merales janovic

gerrad cole

kuyt torres

I think carra needs the boot now hes getting too old and for the last few years far too slow, agger needs to have a chance to play with skertel and gain a good relationship

Liverpool FC supporters feel disenfranchised,

LIVERPOOL want to have a greater say in helping shape the club's future.

so how can John W Henry help facilitate this future

Apparently Roy wants to improve the defense in january. . any thoughts Ed? . . {ed's note - yes, he could recall Ayala or give Wilson, Mavinga and Kelly a proper run of games. Waste of money to buy more defenders when we have such good young ones. He needs to have the balls to give the kids a chance, we have lost far too many good ones in recent years.}

Ed, you say we have lost far too many good kids over the years. . . who exactly were they and who do the play for now?
{Editor's note - adam hamill at barnsley - great winger who was their best player last season, paul anderson at forest, pacey winger/striker and jack hobbs at leicester}

25 Oct 2010 19:48:06

Liverpool's main weaknesses at the min are

1. defensive midfielder - lucas / poulsen arent good enough for Lpool. Compare 2 spurs (huddlestone / palacios), man u (fletcher / hargreaves / anderson), arsenal (song / denilson / diaby), chelsea (essien / mikel) and man city (barry / de jong / viera / kompany)

We need 2 sort this area out in january.
Potential targets
1. scott parker
2. steven defour
3. lassana diara
4. muhammed diara

parker or defour would be easier to sign.

left midfield
Jovanovic (not good enuff - squad player), Babel (needs run of games or to be sold at end of the season), joe cole (not playing well as he can this season so far)

Targets
1. Honda
2. Affelay
3. elia
4. mata
5. a young

Honda would be great signing - good player, big shirt sales in asia. should try get him signed in jan. affelay is leaving psv (check psv website) - similar to nasri. would be good signing.

Right midfield

Maxi - not good enough
Kuyt - Okay, not top quality tho

Targets
1. d bentley
2. a sanchez

Striker
need partner for torers and backup

Targets
c cole
m gomez
a carroll

Overall
we should try to sign scott parker, carlton cole and david bentley in january to boost squad in push for champs league (hopefully)

Honda, Sanchez and Ashley Young won't join unless we're in Champs League next year. Man u are linked with Sanchez as well, so Liverpool really need Champs League next year if we want to improve and to keep main players (reina, gerrard, and torres)

Just a quick post to lighten the mood lol.

would you rather have robbie fowler (in his prime) or torres.
this is not a kock on torres just wanting to start a bit of an arguement. for me its fowler.

always a red {ed's note - for me, without a doubt, Fowler in his prime is better, he was unbelievable at his peak.}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Many people seem to forget how good Fowler was, particularly between 1994 and 1998. He was disgracefully not played when available for England, even when 'golden boy' Alan Shearer was going many games without scoring. He was set to be in the 1998 World Cup squad but was injured in the derby match after colliding with the Everton keeper. He stupidly tried to carry on playing in the match and probably did more damage to the knee injury which meant he did not go to France 1998. After this injury he seemed to lose a lot of his sharpness but was still better than most PL strikers. According to his book he did not particularly enjoy playing for Houllier who had a more direct footballing style. Houllier prefered players like Titi camara! But for me Fowler was a great player. Even better that he was a local lad. Legend!

Lets not get carried away fellow fans! Yes it was good to see us play better football, press the opposition more, create more chances and finally get another 3 points, but I don't think weve turned the corner just yet.

The next game against Bolton is key! If we lose that game then we are in for a long hard season and possibly then you will see a managerial change.

So far taking only 8 points from 4 home games against west brom, sunderland, blackpool, blackburn and arsenal is worrying.

Another good performance and 3 points against Bolton will see us on our way to turning the corner, anything less and I think we should worry.

FROM ROY HODGSON HIMSELF, and i quote from skysports website:

"I don't think we can play a lot better than we did against Blackburn, "

This kind of defeatist attitude is exactly why RH should not be Liverpool manager. He has no handle on what LFC means. Where is the motivation here, for players and fans alike.

Is this the kind of 'Winning Mentality' that NESV will be looking for from him? No.

It was a 'better' performance, but the fact is we beat Blackburn by a single Goal when they played very badly, and were missing several first team players.

God help us.

Hi, I am a Liverpool fan from Canada. This is my first post, but I have been following this site for a while now. Great job Eds! I thought I would share my thoughts on how I would like the squad to look by the start of next season. I have mixed feelings about Roy, but I feel confident that the right choice will be made on who should manage this team going forward.

Reina
Johnson Agger G. Cahill Konchesky
Meireles
E. Hazard Gerrard I. Afellay
Cole
Torres

squad: Jones, Kuyt, Shelvey, Carra, Jovanovic (the Serbian daydream), Ngog, Aurelio, Wilson, Kelly and so on. .

Sell: Babel, Insua, El Zhar, Aqua Man and other players who won't ever get first team football.

I would use Kuyt and Jovanovic as a strike partner for Torres on games where we want 2 strikers. I would love to see players like A. Young, E. Benega and Juan Mata, but I don't think our funds will allow for it. A strike partner for Torres is a must in the future as well, but I think it is far more important to get some speed and width from new wing players first. Hopefully this makes it on the rumours page and please let me know what you think of this idea. YNWA

As Philip Hall said "the summer will be when there is a surge rather than the new year" referring to our club its investments and its growth. This guy brokered the deal to oust Tom and Gerry and has kept quiet and kept his head down but is yet another that we owe a debt of gratitude to. We cannot and will not waste money on overpaid prima donnas who no one wants in Jan that is not how NESV operate so please lets all stop with the fantasy of us spending millions in a couple of months. It won't happen, we will have to remain patient as ever as "Rome wasn't built in a day" (although it was conquered in 77 and 84 in a night! !). We need to trust our new owners and only time builds trust. I for one am happy that the long term safety of our club has been secured.

Kelly - Wilson - Agger - Mavinga

Banega

Turan - Meireles - Gerrard - Sanchez

Torres

Subs from:
Shelvey, Amoo, Cole, Toivenen, Babel, Ngog, Lucas, Carra, Aurelio, Jones (GK), Ngoo, Suso, Skrtel, Spearing, Darby, Wisdom, Robinson, Sterling

Manager:
Frank Rijkaard

Suggestions by RH that we need to strenthen the defence are rubbish, as we all know. We have the personel, he just needs to use them properly.

Arda Turan and Alexis Sanchez to provide pace, width and creativity. Banega will be our new Alonso, stitching the team together, and I've seen enough of Meireles so far to justify a place next year alongside Stevie G.

At the same time, we will be making the most of our Youth players who have outstanding potential (Shelvey & Suso in particular, although Suso will be more for the season after next).

Unfortunately, I don't think Pacheco is going to hang around and will be shipped out (our loss!)

In summary:

Outs
Kuyt
Johnson
Jovanovic
Soto
Pacheco
Poulsen
Konchesky
Aquilani
Intanje

Ins
Banega (Holding midfielder with a touch of class)
Sanchez (Pace & Creativity)
Turan (Pace & Creativity)
Toivenen (Backup for Torres)

Promoted:
Shelvey
Amoo
Ngoo
Darby
Mavinga
Suso (under 18)
Wisdom
Sterling (under 18)
Robinson (under 18)

Reina
Johnson Carra Agger Konc

Lucas

Gerrard Merieles

Kuyt Cole

Torres

This is personally the team i would call the best of our squad and to be honest i think it looks very strong.

if we replaced Cole, Carra, Konc, Kuyt and lucas with
Cahill
Taiwo
Mata
Turan
Banega
The i think we would win the league

I genually do not understand why people seem to think johnson is awful. personally i think he is the best RB in the league and England. These days a full back can't be ultra defencive because they offer more width to teams. also he's still fairly young and english so just give him a chance he is the best we have got. :)

4-4-2 will never win us the league. It's an outdated tactic and it's too easy to break down. Stop posting your team in a 4-4-2 formation.

With the current squad no matter the formation, we won't win the league. 4-5-1 might get you relegated, though. Also, your guy up top needs to be durable if he is alone for the entire season. And if you get a quality striker in January, he better not be a sub for Torres. No matter how you break it down, a change in formation is needed. 4-3-3 is my personal favourite, but you need at least 4 new players to go with it at Liverpool and Torres might not be the best striker in that system.

25 Oct 2010 16:02:40

Adebayor would be the perfect partner for Torres. He is also a player that can play as a lone striker in 4-5-1.
I think we have purchased a gem in Meireles, given a couple of months to fully get into his stride him and Gerrard will be superb together. Get Jarvis for the left wing, great skillful winger who doesn't mind putting a shift in. And finally G.Cahill or Shawcross to partner Agger in defence.

Reina
Johnson. Cahill/ Shawcrosss. Agger. Konchesky

Cole. .Meireles. .Gerrrard. .Jarvis

Torres. . .Adebayor

Although we gave a spirited performance yesterday I would like to see a new manager.preferably a world class one :
hiddink, ottmar hitzfeld, Vicente del bosque, Jose mourinho.
I know they all have jobs rite now but I believe next summer at least try to get one. . we could even try Josep guardiola u never know but I say shoot for the stars.no sub standard managers. . rafa was a great tactician

On the Kelly at RB debate.

I agree with Blair on this one, I think Kelly is an excellent player and will only get better. Hes had a good start this year and also agree johnson would make a better right winger. My concern is a bit more about the whole defensive back line. I have felt for a while now that a defence lacks pace. Kelly (and Ayala for this matter) are not very pacey players which in itself is not aproblem as not all defenders have to be pacey but I think its a better balance to have your at least 1 or two of your back line with a bit of pace. Its not a major problem as long as your defence is organised but it would be nice to get a left back and right back with pace to burn as none of our current starters are particularly fast. Agger, Skertle and Johnson have a bit but I think to get the best out of Kelly and our entire defence in the future I think we should sign someone with pace.

Forget getting rid of Hodgson for the time being and see if he can build on the win, performance and style of football against Blackburn. We firstly need rid of Sammy Lee and his Notoriously poor coaching then this waste of space in the squad Itandje, Degen, Kyrgiakos, Insua, Konchesky, Aurelio, Jovanovic, Maxi, Kuyt, Babel, Lucas, Ngog, Poulsen, Aquilani, El Zhar.
Lets hop this can happen as quick as humanly possible.
Thoughts?

YNWA

Who else have we got left why not get rid of torres and gerrard and play with the reserves.

25 Oct 2010 14:49:32

Because Soto is awful, "

He wins more headers in both boxes than any other CB we have and has been our most effective CB this season.( o.k. that may not be difficult) He has also scored twice, no other CB has looked a danger at dead ball situations.

soto is more of a threat in set pieces than any other player we have, he could have had a hat trick yesterday and should have had a pen , bargain buy for 2mil and gives all he has nearly every match he plays, and doesn't mind warming the bench,

I know that this should be on the general page but only the Liverpool rumours and banter are of any interest to me. On MOTD2 I saw two incidents that should be stamped out IMMEDIATELY. Both occurred in MC-Arse match. Firstly - Fabregas stood waving an imaginery card at the referee when the MC defender brought down an opponent (I thought players were supposed to be carded themselves for this). Secondly - a MC player stood hands on hips with his face in the referee's. Both got off scot-free. Neither incident belongs in the EPL and the FA ought to get it sorted out.

A new Chelsea Football Club shop has just opened in Kingston-Upon- Thames in Surrey. How much would everybody pay me to walk in wearing a t-shirt that says ''We won it five times''?

Anybody else that lives in Surrey and supports Liverpool should do it too!

Everyone talks of needing a target man to compliment Torres. We've got one in our squad already; The Greek!
Imagine him upfront with Torres, I genuinely would try that. .

Sounds very interesting! !

Trying the Greek with Torres upfront?? That's why your "genuinely" never going to be a manager. You must have the tactical brain of a goat. .

25 Oct 2010 12:42:02

Is it me or does anyone think we would be better off with kelly playing RB and push Johnson on to RM; he is good enough going forward to justify a serious run of games to get him into it, it could spark a Bale type turn around in his form!?

Also even as a RB i think he would be more use than Kuyt at RM, who we all know works hard but quite frankly we need to move him on before his value drops further - so predictable and no pace!

25 Oct 2010 12:38:33

Irish Rover - how wrong can you be - 3 points for win was introduced in 1981 - let's wait until the 11th game now to see if it is our worst start eh. In those they never put a league table up till after about 5 games, we get bloody league tables now at half time on day 1 of the season.

New Liverpool fans are great - get a creditable draw in Italy against the top scorers in Serie A - and it's because they are crap, beat a Blackburn side with out a few regulars ( we had a couple of Internationals missing also I reckon ) and they are crap.

And people already mentioning if Roy doesn't go we'll be fighting relegation - OK I admit we are all of 6 points behind 5th place - and not looking very confident still keep the faith. Whatever happens we are still LFC.

25 Oct 2010 12:37:12

Although it may not seem like it at the moment, there are reasons why the future is bright for Liverpool.

As I am sure you are all aware, very soon there will be new regulations saying that you can only spend what you earn. This is to minimise debts. NESV are aware of this, and therefore are biding their time for the other clubs to fall. The Manchester clubs will be in trouble for different reasons, United for their debt, City for the fact that they will be spending more than they earn, as they will not have huge support around the world like Liverpool, United, Madrid etc. So they will have to sell players I think.

Chelsea could well be going through a transitional period as they have an aging squad, and Mr Abramovic is not spending like he used to.

So that leaves Arsenal. They have a well run club, and NESV are taking a leaf out of their book. NESV are good for the club because they know how to run a business; like all good businessmen they will invest if they see that Liverpool will improve because of it, the same with Arsenal.

Elsewhere in Europe, Inter and Barcelona are in huge debt as well, so they will be looking to reduce that debt more than anything.

The upcoming rules are great for three teams in my view- Arsenal, Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

Have patience Redmen, the glory days will return- a team can't be successful every year. Also remember victory will taste even sweeter as we will remember the recent years where we had to suffer.

Hi ed, is there any more news about a new manager coming? For some worrying reason, I think the new owners may keep the faith in Hodgson and give him a season?!
{Editor's note - Have not heard anything recently}

25 Oct 2010 12:27:20

I'm 58 years old, first stood in boy's pen in 1959 - and played football to a reasonable standard - and I'm still a better full back than Glen Johnson - having trouble thinking a worse one in a red shirt in my 51 years as a Kopite. Probably one of the best right backs we've had going forward, but as defender - woeful is a compliment to his ability.

Never in a million years should this happen.

Phil Tommo? Got fight in him? He won't be brought back because the last fight he had were with Gerrard. Short memories some people. . :-)

25 Oct 2010 12:06:21

Hey ed. I know you think Sean O'Driscoll is the man for the job but I think Paul Tisdale of Exeter City could be even bet. He has seen Exeter City promoted twice in the past four years. And they make it three times this year with the excellent home record they are building. His side plays a very neat short passing game that is not far from the pass and move style that made Liverpool famous. And best of all, he is only 37 years old. What do you think of him?
{Editor's note - He is a good manager. He has done really well with the money he has}

Rumour has it that the players held a meeting before Sundays match.Could this be why we had a change in tactics and attitude?

25 Oct 2010 11:47:01

Its more the point of who wants to join Liverpool, not who you want to buy, your a risky cub to join at the moment, plus no CL football, so how do you atract world class players, its a dilemma that only your present crop of players can solve, move up the table, atract better players, better player comes in you get sold, easy this football lark, same goes for a new manager.

There's nothing like ex-fan, u're either a fan or not.Ex-fan simply means glory hunter, so if lfc starts dominating epl next year, u will put on ur jersey and say u are a fan.U will knw the true fan of a club during trouble times not when things are rosy. What happen to "You'll neva walk alone", tru bad and good times.Get behind the team now when they are struggling not when they hit top form, show in ur heart that u're true red.Lfc will neva relegate, even Arsene wenger said lfc is too good to relegate, lets move lfc in the right direction, the team needs the fans behind them now than ever.Coming frm a true red who wears his jersey with pride everytime we're beaten even though am not happy. When posting rumours, pls do it in a constructive manner that can help lfc to move forward, we have to stay together now than ever, this is lfc trial time, we would surely overcome, at the end of the storm is a golden sky and the sweet silver song of a lark.March onward, ye anfield soldiers.YNWA

So that now leaeves you with 17 points to get before Jan, if you do not get 17 points by Jan, relgation will happen, can you afford big salarys in the championship?no, so who will join in Jan, it depens on your league posistion, if you are still in the bottom 6 no, no class player will join you, its to much of a career risk, clubs plan there wage bill around there league posistion, new players pick there new clubs by league posistion, thats the problem Liverpool will face in Jan, then it will take until mid Feb to settle the new players in, and maybe a new manager, so relegation is still a huge possibilty, your not out of the woods yet! !

Why are people raving about how we played yesterday? We played well for 60 minutes then went flat as a pancake as usual, 10 shots in the first half then only 5 in the second half, ed what do u think of yesterdays performance?

Red Mick! {ed's note - it was better, but still miles away from the level we should be expecting.}

Joe Fagan ( Triple winner in 1984 ) 11 points in 11 games - have you been a supporter for 5 minutes? Hodgson is still here - so is Torres, Gerrard, Reina and all the others, no one has left yet - rumours ( uncorroborated of course ) say they are all unhappy with Roy Hodgson. Let's see on January 1st - and by the way I really don't believe Hodgson is up to the job - but I'm a realist - I cannot see anyone who knows what the EPL is all about and available -and please don't say Ryjkaard, Pellegrini - and all the other failed European managers. This is the Einglish football, with English mentality.

Was it not only 2 points a game back in the good old days? That means Roy would have to get 7 points in his next 2 games to equal that. Listen it doesn't really matter about what happened all those years ago, we have had the worst start in 57 years under Roy stewardship. That goes down in the history books & beating a very poor Blackburn team minus 3/ 4 regular players doesn't change anything yet. We would need to beat Bolton first then get something against Chelsea before we can say we have possibly turned a corner.

My only observation of yesterdays game was how nervous we were in the last 15/ 20 minutes when we could string a pass together. The sign of a team very low in confidence & fighting for every point in a relegation battle. A long way to go boys!

When this rule comes in about the spending thing (im sorry for my lack of knowlage of it lol) surley the new owners are going to want to spend a hefty bit to get us back near the top and get a few more glory fans and probably get more in the stadium and shirt sales to make us more profitable for when the law comes in. Or am i wrong Ed cos i'm clueless! ha!

25 Oct 2010 02:12:08
Look the only player we need a liverpool is Bastian Schweinsteiger

If we get him club is saved, we are back in champions league. The new owners really have to push the boat out and buy a Quality playmaker in midfield.

The other signing mean nothing without a miesto in midfield who can pull the strings. If man utd have the ambition to get him. We need to show that kind of ambition
