Hey guys, didn't quite catch the match tonight but how was Grujic? A big fan of his, great technique and physique for a young player. Think with him and Can we have two potentially world class central midfielders, here's to the future!

25 Oct 2016 23:16:14
MrC, i was looking forward to seeing Grujic as well as I have high hopes of him but I thought he was quiet tonight but I've noticed a few others thought he done better than I think he did, all opinions I guess.

25 Oct 2016 23:41:29
I really like this lad Grujic, to me he had a good game, definately one for the future.

26 Oct 2016 01:32:05
Not the Grujic I watched, 18and5. Never seen the kid play so was watching him closely. He was very solid and showed great awareness and vision with his passing and is also a decent tackler. He can pass long or short with either foot and is quite brilliant on the turn. He made a turn once in midfield and completely bamboozled his marker so much that I thought he broke the guy's ankle. He may not have been flashy but he was way more than quiet.

26 Oct 2016 01:44:26
Ejaria I think out did him tonight but there's was not stand out player tonight . Sturridge got his goals could had 4 or 5 . Origi holds the ball up really well . Ings look good when he come on . Gini was good . Arnold did really well I would not be worried if clyne gets injured . Lucas was the leader tonight . Morono did really well up to the 85min than was out of postion lucky that the kid had a bad touch. Mignolet had a good game . His kicking was much better .

26 Oct 2016 13:10:45
Had a quiet first half but grew into the match, made two stunning passes which were a glimpse of his potential.

25 Oct 2016 22:41:14
That's 10 games unbeaten 😬. normally we are slow starters to the season but this time, we are kicking on. well done to all including the youngsters!

Believable8 Unbelievable1

26 Oct 2016 01:33:21
We have started fast and that's great. But as Klopp always says, we have done nothing yet. We have started fast but we need to finish strong so as to make this season a memorable one.

26 Oct 2016 04:04:56
As warren zevon once said "enjoy every sandwich", we have won nothing yet and i'm personally taking it 1 game at a time, I am enjoying this winning run we are on but I am also not getting carried away, still plenty of games left, so far so good, we really need to win something this season.

25 Oct 2016 22:39:17
Should have won that game 5-1 but a wins a win. Some very good performences, first team players got a rest before Saturday. Times are good.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

26 Oct 2016 01:34:31
Absolutely, Danray just like the West Brom game. We were in total control and even Moreno had a solid night. There is hope for him yet.

25 Oct 2016 22:10:56
Good performance from the lads. Pleased for the youngsters, they all did well. Loved to see how much that time on the pitch meant to Ings.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

26 Oct 2016 01:35:23
He should have scored two but all in all, he was solid just like everyone else even Moreno.

25 Oct 2016 22:09:12
Those young redmen should be extremely proud of their performance tonight. Nice to see studge back amongst the goals too. The future bright. YNWA.

25 Oct 2016 21:57:58
It's high time we play Stewart alongside Henderson. I always counted on him. The boy could tackle and break up the play and read it pretty well. Looked brilliant today.
Grujic another name should compete with Lallana in that role. Always looking to go forward and intentions set in movement.

25 Oct 2016 22:03:45
What about Emre Can? In my opinion an already better player, and more of a prospect.

25 Oct 2016 22:05:54
I agree. Both looked very tidy today and seemlessly fitted in despite not much first team action so far this season. I know it was only one game, but it's hard not to get excited about our squad depth after that performance. All players made a big claim as to why they should be in and around the first team!

Red Sandman.

25 Oct 2016 22:07:25
The first team is good as it is. So unless there are injuries or a player needs a rest or is out of form i would suggest leaving it as it is. Well done to the team tonight, the boys done well.

25 Oct 2016 22:13:23
Can is a squad player at the moment and not yet worthy of a start.

25 Oct 2016 22:22:05
Great options to have as cover. what an exciting team! grujic to me will be the real deal, he looks excellent everytime I see him play. which of course mostly was pre season which we can't really go on but tonight he had a great game.

25 Oct 2016 22:24:55
Grujic played well? , not for me sorry, thought he was anonymous to be honest, I was really looking forward to see him start as well. Getting almost full game will do him good though so look forward to him getting more game time.

25 Oct 2016 22:39:06
Gini is a quality player and grew to the game tonight, needed that to get ready for Saturday. he is a linking player, good technique always on the half turn looking foreward and most importantly trusted by the manager.

25 Oct 2016 22:22:05
Great options to have as cover. what an exciting team! grujic to me will be the real deal, he looks excellent everytime I see him play. which of course mostly was pre season which we can't really go on but tonight he had a great game.

25 Oct 2016 23:24:37
Grujic did not have a good game tonight. I was really looking forward to seeing him play but the game simply passed him by, he struggled physically and didn't look fit enough. I'm a big fan of his from pre season but we can't judge him from tonight, he was poor, only one game though!

26 Oct 2016 01:38:22
18and5 and Jord, what game Grujic were you watching? I watched him very closely and he was more than solid. His passing and tackling ability is decent and can pass with either foot long or short distance. I thought he had a solid night, IMO.

25 Oct 2016 21:56:41
How good did the young players play today Arnold and ejaria stood out for me. Both good big futures ahead.

Believable8 Unbelievable0

25 Oct 2016 22:01:57
Absolutely. Kevin Stewart was just fantastic.

25 Oct 2016 22:12:30
I think grujic looked good as well.

26 Oct 2016 01:39:01
They all looked good, IMO.

25 Oct 2016 21:39:00
Ed1 your our good luck charm, keep going to that pub mate! Overall a great game, I don't think they should've been awarded the pentalty though. Really chuft for Sturride to score a couple, he needed it, hopefully it helps his confidence that bit more, another win. What a team we are looking! now we look to Crystal Palace.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I ended up watching at home as the bar was shut!}

25 Oct 2016 21:50:47
Ah well, atleast we won mate, to me it could've been 5-1 but 2-1 will do me just fine. Also Ings is looking pretty damn good, I wish we'd of played him from the start, let's hope we see more of him.

25 Oct 2016 21:52:56
Ha ha ha. I guess Ed01 was back home in the 75th min and we concede. Lol. You must remain at the pub.

{Ed001's Note - it was shut, but that happened in the last round as well, so clearly I don't need to be there for cup games.}

25 Oct 2016 22:03:05
Let's just put it down to we're a damn good team! Bring on Palace.

25 Oct 2016 21:14:08
Looks like we have a Mini-Klopp on the bench as well as our main man.

Are we cloning Jurgen?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

25 Oct 2016 21:47:57
Ya I have seen him couple of times. Who is he?

25 Oct 2016 21:53:24
The fitness coach.

25 Oct 2016 21:53:46
He is our successor to Juergen in the future.
Klopp takes over from Klopp at the Kop End. 😎.

25 Oct 2016 22:01:06
The fitness coach.

25 Oct 2016 22:14:58
Jurgen has an extra part in the first haunted house scene of the new Ghostbusters movie.

{Ed002's Note - A supernumerary - we understand.}

25 Oct 2016 22:40:02
Peter kornmeyer.

26 Oct 2016 01:42:05
He Bayern's former fitness coach under Jupp Heynkes when they won the treble in 2013. That Bayern team was a physical machine and it showed in that final vs Klopp's Dortmund because that final was end to end from the first to the last whistle.

25 Oct 2016 19:18:33
Danny ings only on the bench, I suppose as 4th choice striker it shouldn't be a massive shock but I hope he gets 30 mins or so to try and prove himself.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed041's Note - for what? To become 3rd choice?

25 Oct 2016 19:24:39
Who knows? The only way is up.

25 Oct 2016 23:50:35
At least it's good to have those choices Ed041 rather than all the strikers out injured for most of the season.

{Ed041's Note - this is very true.

25 Oct 2016 17:59:17
Random one but when/ who do you think will be the first £100 mil transfer?
I'm going to say Real Madrid in 18 months (after transfer ban) and Hazard.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

25 Oct 2016 18:15:19
I'd say a top team buying Dybala may go for over £100 million if he carries on the same way, or if Man City/ Man Utd try and buy renato sanches.

25 Oct 2016 18:24:54
My money would be Messi to Man City. I don't think Hazard would ever cost near that personally. Maybe Neymar if he was sold, but those 2 are probably the only 2 players alive that could be deemed worth that much.

25 Oct 2016 18:25:51
It could be Messi (if talk of a release clause in the new contract is to be believed), Griezmann, Alexis Sanchez, Thomas Muller, Lewandowski, or Sergio Aguero (if noises at ManC are to be believed) . And if such silly money was paid for Pogba and Higuain then why not for Benzema, Aubemeyang or Marco Reus? There's far more clubs than just Real Madrid that are ready with silly money.

25 Oct 2016 18:43:47
£100 million bid for Klopp from. Man Utd . turned down by John Henry asking what the Glazer boys are smoking back in Tampa.

25 Oct 2016 18:44:48
Griezman is a good shout Ra1969. I think Aguero's next move is back to Argentina.

25 Oct 2016 19:03:35
I really rate greizman, I think Chelsea have been after him for a while not sure they would stump up 100 mil though. Messi might be in the same situation as ronaldo now, it's hard to see the value in them long term but you would get 2/ 3 good years out of them.

25 Oct 2016 19:06:06
What about lewandowski to Madrid? They must be thinking about buying a top end striker when there ban is up.

25 Oct 2016 19:29:12
Nathan Redman.

25 Oct 2016 19:40:07
Probably man united this January on another 'brand' of a player. Either that or a referee. been a while since Howard's Webb's contract ended.

25 Oct 2016 20:29:58
It would have to be Messi or Neymar at the moment.

As much as Greizman is a great player he doesn't have that "household name" appeal that is worth so much to clubs now and associated revenue streams.

25 Oct 2016 22:01:35
Surely Nicholas bendtner?

25 Oct 2016 21:51:29
PSG will be the first team to break the £100m mark. Neymar or Griezman?

26 Oct 2016 00:11:17
Coutinho, obviously! Probably in the summer of 2018 once we've won the Champions League! 👍🏆.

So far in the league this season Klopp has only rotated his starting 11 due to injuries so I always look forward to League Cup teams as it gives some wider insight into how Klopp sees his squad. Origi's started both LC games so far, will he go again or will Ings be given a run out? Will Studge be given another chance to find form? Will prospects like Brannagan and Stewart get a chance or will they be skipped over to give even younger players a look in the first team? Does Klopp trust Randall or will Clyne play another 90 minutes?

I'm often guilty of reading too much into certain selections but it's great fun speculating what it all may mean.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

25 Oct 2016 16:59:30
Will probably be Alexander Arnold at right back as klopp rathes him.

25 Oct 2016 17:21:28
Gerrard also rates Alexander amold to.

25 Oct 2016 16:37:04
I have been studying the origin`s of where JK found his penchant for the Gegen or Couter Pressing system he has used to great success in the past and present. Of course, there are different forms of counter pressing as even LFC under Bob paisley, used it to great success. Klopp said that he learnt it from his Mainz coach Wolfgang Frank, who learnt it from the great Italian and legendary AC Milan manager Arrigo Sacchi. Klopp of is a disciple of both managers (Sacchi and Frank) . Sacchi used the Couter pressing system during his glorious days at Milan and he explains that, "I wanted my players to feel strong and the opponents to feel weak. If we let our opponents play in a way they were accustomed to, they would grow in confidence. But if we stopped them, it would hurt their confidence. That was the key: our pressing was psychological as much as physical. Our pressing was always collective. I wanted all 11 players to be in an "active" position, effecting and influencing the opposition when we did not have the ball. Every movement had to be synergistic and had to fit into the collective goal. ". For those like myself before now, who do not know what this system entails, Sacchi, like Viktor Maslov of Dynamo Kiev in the 60`s, Rinus Michels who gave us Dutch Total Football in the 70`s, did before Pep and now, Klopp, this is how it works and when used in accordance with the levels sports science that we have today, it is very effective because unlike the past, players can now press a lot more for a lot longer than before.

25 Oct 2016 18:30:36
That was simply an amazing Milan team. I remember flying over to Milan for a couple of games, as a kid, and that team with the 3 Dutch boys was simply phenomenal.

25 Oct 2016 18:34:31
I see Sturridge leaving before Ings. I don't think I'm the only one who's thinking that we've seen the best of Sturridge already and that it won't be possible for him to regain the form of 2013/ 14, due to the injuries. I hope I am wrong, though. In terms of talent, he is way above everybody else.

25 Oct 2016 20:32:23
Great post Hamilton.

25 Oct 2016 21:40:28
Sorry, I posted on the wrong thread.

26 Oct 2016 01:44:24
No problem, ra. I just thought I'd share what I read about the system and it was illuminating.

26 Oct 2016 10:57:38
Very informative HR, and a good read.

25 Oct 2016 10:18:10
With January coming and a lot of teams struggling to put the ball in the back of the net do you think we might have a struggle on our hands to keep hold of ings? . I really like the look of him and think he is capable of breaking into the squad but I presume it would be at the expense of sturridge. I'm starting to think one of the two will have to move on. i'm dreading watching one of them banging them in for another club in the new year or next season.

Believable1 Unbelievable6

25 Oct 2016 11:52:49
I just can't see Sturride getting back to how he was, so if i had to choose, i'd choose to keep ings personally. One of them will go though in Jan/ Summer no doubt.

25 Oct 2016 12:18:51
Im sure ings is willing to wait for his chance this season but he's 24 and will want first team football, if he's still knocking around in the u23s by the end of the season I can't see him sticking around. Alternatively if he's taken his chance I worry it will be at the expense of Sturridge, I'm not sure how origi feels about his lack of playing time but i just don't see how we can keep all 4 happy.

25 Oct 2016 12:30:16
I think Ings deserves minutes in the premier league and to start in league cup games.

Hes gone through a lot and has stayed strong. Also i think he also the all action running type and would fit Klopp's style of play.

25 Oct 2016 12:42:41
This is professional football, boys and not a romantic novel. There should be no sentiments involved. If Studge can no longer compete at the level the manager demands and Ings can, why should Studge still be here and Ings should leave? To me, it`s all upt to both of them to fight for their place in the first team. The one who can`t get it done, should assess his options and the one who can, will stay, period. Klopp and many of us, don`t care what you did in the past. We care of what you`re doing now and that should be the standard for everyone. Klopp plays no favorites so if Studge or Ings can`t cut it, they should be gone, end of.

25 Oct 2016 13:00:23
All i can say it is great to have three quality player's not getting a game. It just means the players that are ahead of them are flying. When Sturridge, Origi, Ings etc get a chance, they will give it everthing.

25 Oct 2016 13:11:43
For me sturridge has become to comfortable in respect to thinking it's his spot. Given a chance and sturridge will put it away 9 times out of 10, buy in my eyes he doesn't work hard enough for that chance anymore, the last few times he's played I don't think I've even seen him break into a sprint! I'd much rather see ings or origi playing, two players with something to prove, and who want to improve!

25 Oct 2016 16:34:21
I would add Origi to that list, he's yet to spark this season and is behind a struggling Sturridge in the pecking order which doesn't bode well for him. If Ings does get a chance it's most likely to be at his expense so I could see him being surplus if Ings and Studge do find any form.

25 Oct 2016 17:24:23
Origi is firmly in Klopp`s plans for the future as like Grujic, he` still a kid who is learning the game and Klopp has already said, "We will have a lot of fun with this player" last season when Origi was being picked ahead of Studge and scoring for fun before the weirdo from the other side of Stanley park did him in the derby. Studge is the one who is in danger of being left behind, not Ings and defo, not Origi.

25 Oct 2016 10:07:25
I hope Ings starts tonight, I think this is the perfect setting for him.

Believable10 Unbelievable0

25 Oct 2016 11:53:47
Me too mate, he'll want to prove what he's worth if he starts. would love to see him get a couple of goals.

25 Oct 2016 12:26:57
How's Joe tomato? When will he be ready for first tea?

25 Oct 2016 12:59:07
I hope he plays and impresses.

25 Oct 2016 13:39:07
He's done exactly what a player not involved in first team should do so if he doesn't start it's a kick in the teeth for him.

Bit slack on klopps part if he doesn't start him.

25 Oct 2016 13:55:26
I think if anyone starts it should be Origi. He is the one mainly on the bench at the minute without much game time. So i would guess that Klopp would like to give him game time to keep him sharp incase he is needed. i'm sympathetic the Ing's case but i think the most he can expect is a place beside Origi, if not that then a place on the bench.

25 Oct 2016 15:37:43
Start all 3 of them tonight. Sturridge down the middle, Ings and Origi either side and let them interchange.

25 Oct 2016 16:38:33
Origi and Ings are wasted out wide so starting all three of them is pointless.

25 Oct 2016 17:38:46
I'll ask tonight when I see him.

25 Oct 2016 07:28:22
I was talking to my grandfather the other day and asked him why he never watches football as he only watches Gaelic football and Hurling which when compared when it comes to money is ridiculous, and he said he used to when he was young but as he got older as soon as money came into the sport he couldn't watch anymore he preferred teams to play local players from their communities instead of buying players from other teams. It made me think how different the game would be today if transfers were banned and we could only play local players and promote youth players from Liverpool and to be honest I think I would rather it. Just wondering what everyone elses opinion is maybe some people might think the game would become boring without the 50 million player transfers.

Believable4 Unbelievable7

25 Oct 2016 08:13:22
The games moved on and changed - it will continue to move on and change. There is nothing wrong with an admiring glance at the past but to fantasise about bringing the game back to that seems idealistic and, personally, I would not be a fan of it.

Look at how dangerous going to watch football was years ago, look at the rampant hooliganism (which though reduced still persists), look at how many horrific tackles, elbows, etc you could get away with without reproach (Pele getting, literally, kicked out of the world cup in 66'), look at the levels of athleticism and fitness from then compared to now.

The game has improved in so many ways - does money sometimes detract from the game? Yes. Does the endless merry-go-round of money and transfers reduce the chances of seeing local lads playing for Liverpool? Yes. The game has faults but it always has - in my opinion, at least on the pitch, the game is much better. The only gripe I have is with the exorbitant ticket prices forced on fans - this is an issue which shows no sign of being controlled by footballs governing bodies and which is stopping a lot of regular fans from attending games, that is the only aspect I do not like. Everything else is part and parcel of a changing game.

I think it's also worth noting that there were transfers in the good old days as well - perhaps not as frequent, perhaps not involving as many foreigners, but they did happen. And let's be honest look at some of the talent we've been able to enjoy because of the increase in transfer activity: Bergkamp (one of my all-time favorites), Henry, Ronaldo, Xabi Alonso, Suarez, Drogba, Zola, Vialli, etc etc the list is endless - the game is better as a spectacle when you watch the best players compete - as recent internationals have shown when you have average players against other average players the standard drops sharply.

25 Oct 2016 08:46:25
Considering Liverpool produce players like fowler, owen, gerrard, carra, barkley, rooney, mcmannaman then yes i'd prob prefere it too as we produce some of the best English talents.

25 Oct 2016 08:55:46
The money today in football is pretty rediculous. There should be some sort of cap on transfer fees. The way it's going in 5 years from now the record transfer will be something stupid like 250m. I moan at 50m transfers, nobodys worth that amount of money in my opinion and it's got daft but it is what it is and it won't be changing.

25 Oct 2016 12:04:50
In that case Messi would be playing in Argentina, Ronaldo in Madeira, Suárez in Uruguay.

I'd hate it personally. The world has moved on. It's different with Hurling and Gaelic Football as they are only played in parts of Ireland, much more localised so the effect of employing local players is much reduced.

Football is all about the money now, we can either accept the changing times or stop watching.

25 Oct 2016 14:52:51
It's similar to saying let's only eat what we can grow or our own cuisine, we'd never taste other cultures and dishes, variety is the spice of life.

25 Oct 2016 16:42:41
I agree with Seano on this, the game is different now and in many ways better, if you relied on only local players the variation in quality across the team would be pretty jarring. The money has changed things but makes total sense if players are considered as business assets, that doesn't mean you have to like it but it's the cost of football being the game it is today which I think is worth it.

25 Oct 2016 07:16:28
Hi Ed001 I've just seen talk about Gerrard going into coaching with us and England as he does his coaching badges and it made me think, do you think management is a possibility for him? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question? I would love for him to work his way up from the youth teams at the club and maybe get the big job kind of like the way Barcelona choose their managers from within which seems to work well. Or is there any other former players you think that could do well in management?

Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - impossible to say, he has never shown any aptitude for it as a player, but it is such a different skillset required that he has never had to. I think he would make a great youth coach, but people seem to see that as the beginning of a learning experience rather than as a pinnacle of a career on its own.}

25 Oct 2016 07:33:17
Thanks Ed and if you don't mind me asking what made Kenny such a successful manager he too was only young when he started and went straight in after playing? Was he more Knowledgeable when it came to tactics?

{Ed001's Note - initially it was in big part down to having Bob Paisley holding his hand as he learnt the job. Then it was down to his intelligence and ability to learn from Sir Bob.}

25 Oct 2016 07:38:13
Thanks Ed001.

{Ed001's Note - I really hope Gerrard stays in youth coaching, for me that is where he can have the most impact, by inspiring them to become the best they can be.}

25 Oct 2016 07:42:10
I'd love to see Carra in management at some stage. No particular reason, just miss the odd post match interview and his blunt honesty. Has he shown any interest in it?

{Ed001's Note - he did in the past, it was his aim when he retired, but then the Sly punditry job came along and he took the money instead.}

25 Oct 2016 09:20:37
Klopp used to be pundit too albeit a short while for Germany World cup . Even impress the Kaiser Beckenbauer with his tactical astuteness.

25 Oct 2016 08:03:03
Think you could be right ed hopefully he can help many youngsters like Steve Heighway did for him.

25 Oct 2016 00:41:26
Just a quick question here. How much do you think our conceding from set pieces is poor defending and how much is just teams targeting that area and training on it all week? My feeling is a bit of both but more leaning towards teams targeting it or am I clutching?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

25 Oct 2016 06:45:07
The opposition targets because they feel we are weak in that department and hasn't shown no real sign of any improvement from how many years. I don't know whose at blame here. Poor CB pairing or poor Goal keeper.

25 Oct 2016 07:16:49
Listen to Schwarzer on MoD from Saturday. Yes we do probably have more of a vulnerability than most, but our zonal marking also doesn't help.

25 Oct 2016 07:18:43
It's not a 'poor keeper' or 'poor centre backs' the OP is correct that it is multifactorial.
It is one of the easiest attacking options to train for so weaker teams specifically train harder on attacking set pieces because they get very few decent opportunities in open play. Our defence/ keeper will get better with more experience at playing in the premier league.

If you watch again the goal WBA scored should not have stood as it was offside. Not sure the player but he's standing right in front of the keeper and if that's not interfering I don't know what is.

If you watch the way we defend set pieces as broken down by Alan Shearer on MOTD, we do not play a full zonal marking. We do a mix of zone and man to man marking. Matip stands at the center of the six yard box, the other four or five players stand in a mix of zone and man to man, which I have no problem with. The problem is that we have no one on the posts (which to me, is criminal) and then we don`t win second balls as the goals we`ve conceded vs Swansea (won neither of the first or second ball), Hull and West Brom have shown. Therefore, it is not a case of the GK or the defence or positioning. We simply DO NOT win the second ball after winning the first one and Klopp has mentioned this even last season. A GK has to know when to come out fully for a cross and if he hesitates, then there`s chaos. We should do a lot better with winning the second ball and that takes determination and grit, something we are still missing IMO.
