Simply, cried today.

I was 13 years old and not allowed by my parents to travel to Sheffield.

Hillsborough saddened me, I didn't understand how you went to a game and didn't come home.

I went into town and anfield over the coming days. Numbness and raw emotion made my Dad and I closer than I guess we have ever been.

I assumed, naively, people felt the same.

It would be unfair to name the team. But 2 years later as a 15 year old on his first away game I was spat at in the face and called a murderer.

I have never ever doubted the facts. However, it was a stark realisation at a reasonably young age that people believe the shit they read in the papers.

27 years later the families have the justice they deserve.

27 years later the fans can hold their heads high.

27 years later bringing 3 boys up as scourers in Manchester the TV is telling them what their dad always has.

Unbelievable pride in my exiled city.

Does anyone else agree with me that getting £50m for sterling is the best bit of business you will ever see. The guy is struggling big time. The grass isn't always greener lol.

20 million pound player when he performs well.

26 Apr 2016 22:07:31
I wasn't sorry to see him go, and I largely agree with you. That said, if he'd stayed where he was established, he might have performed better for Liverpool this season than he did for City.

Sometimes to adjust to a new club is half the difficulty. And it also would go to suggest that he could, in a second season there, take large steps forward.

(But I hope he doesn't, somewhat. )

26 Apr 2016 22:01:50
Great business but wish he had given it another season. Feel a bit sorry for him to be honest. He is struggling but he is an extremely talented lad and would definatley be better right now had he stayed here getting more regular games. Even his agent has said since his move he would have stayed had he known Klopp was going to be coming in. Our big name players that move away never seem to do well, bar Suarez obviously.

26 Apr 2016 22:11:48
He has scored 10 goals in his debute season and is only 20. We paid close to £30 mill for Firmino in that case. Raheem Sterling is a 10 year investment for Man City. If developed properly he would reach heights.

26 Apr 2016 22:30:09
Firminho 23 and could play for 10 years what's the point even talking about him . He probably end up like Walcott.

26 Apr 2016 23:40:37
I always felt Sterling was overhyped, and I posted here saying that even as far back as the 13/ 14 season. I had countless arguments about him with lfc fans who admired his quick and mazy runs, but who somehow failed to see the lack of quality in his end product.
I believe that his lack of end product (6 league goals this season) and his lack of incisiveness and game intelligence at the highest level would have been found out anyway by Klopp, as it has been found out by Pellegrini, and I'm not sure that even Klopps team could have coached his game on, because (maybe thanks to his agents and sycophants), he already thinks he is a world beater anyway.
City thought he was going to kick on and turn into the great player many people thought he could become, but personally I thought he had hit his ceiling at lfc in 13/ 14, and his own mentality (plus his ridiculously bombastic agent) will always stop him reaching the true potential he has.
50mill was a great deal, and although Ibe turned out not to be an equal replacement, I trust Klopp to pick and develop a winger who will outshine the young mercenary Sterling in every way, and within the next two years.

27 Apr 2016 01:57:33
Sterling is a fantastic talent but his decision making and finishing need to improve. Man City bet that they will (as required to justify the price) . not so sure myself. I think his attitude/ decision making/ bad choices (eg agent) might well see him flatter to deceive.

27 Apr 2016 02:03:06
I still really like him as a player (less so as a person), I just don't think City have to be as committed to developing players as we probably do (And to be fair we haven't done a great job with lots of the players) because there is always someone waiting on the bench to take your place or someone on the list of targets that City can replace you with.

Sterling was/ is probably not going to get the time (both on the pitch and his time with the club) to develop the way he needs to, maybe that will change under Guardiola. Coman has developed quickly under his management without starting every game.

27 Apr 2016 04:49:36
I'd have sterling back tommorow if the price was right. The kid is a sensational player and Klopp would make him unplayable. Pelligrini is the wrong manager for him he needs someone to give him a hug and seduce and nurture that prodigious talent out of him. And there's no one better at hugs than Jurgen klopp. Can you imagine Sterling on the left, Ojo on the right, coutinho, firminho, Origi and Sturridge. Who needs a defense!

27 Apr 2016 13:01:13
He's a brilliant young player. At the moment, City are a shambles of a team strategically and tactically. They line up in a shape with no coherence in attack or defence and rely on moments of brilliance from De Bruyne and Aguero. I would expect him to progress under Guardiola and once he adds confidence and goals to his game, he is going to be one of England's best players for years to come. It is a shame that Klopp didn't get the chance to work with him. Would have been interesting to see him with Cout, Firmino and Origi up front. I hope he does well. The game needs magicians and he could be a great one.

27 Apr 2016 14:16:29
Sterling leaving was greatly due to BR's and club`s mismanagement as much as it had to do with his weird agent. Had Sterling stayed here under Klopp, he would have been a beast. Marco Reus or Aubameyang type beast as they are blessed with blinding pace and power. He left and to me, that's that.

27 Apr 2016 17:01:18
well said red he has made his bed now he can go lie in it. He could have stayed and became part of our future, he chose to leave and is now part of our past, also he would not have had it any easier under klopp than he did under Rodgers, looks like he will have to get used to life on the bench unless of course pep fancies him, if not he can always count on mr ward to get himself transferred, either way its not our problem, our future lies with ojo, kent canos and ibe.

26 Apr 2016 21:06:07
Just a question to all eds and readers. who would ye look to realistically speaking bring in as a new keeper this summer?

Believable0 Unbelievable7

26 Apr 2016 21:26:11
Begovic or ter stegan.

26 Apr 2016 21:43:44
Sorry but Begovic has said before that he had absolutely no interest in playing for us, so I wouldn't bother again, plus he was happy to go and sit on the Chelsea bench at the age of 28. Big no as far as I'm concerned, he has made his career choice and should be left with it. Let him pick up splinters on the Chelsea bench. There are far better keepers around at the stupid money that Chelsea will want. Leno, Horn and Ter Stegen all good examples.

26 Apr 2016 21:45:04
Ter Stegen would be first choice.

26 Apr 2016 22:11:58
Horn for me, then Ter Stegan.

26 Apr 2016 22:11:58
Horn for me, then Ter Stegan.

26 Apr 2016 22:45:11
Hey Mr Dennis maybe bergovic has a change of heart and would want to sign for us given the opportunity. Nothing is set in stone in football. Luis Figo and Sol Cambell being prime examples.

26 Apr 2016 23:06:29
There is one main reason Ter Stegen doesn't play for Barcelona first eleven; he ain't considered good enough for doing so by their managerial team. I would stay well clear of him and save a load of millions. There plenty of good keepers out there for less. It is a question of good scouting, not just going german for the sake of Kloop. And even if we decide to go german Horn and a few others should be considered ahead of Ter Stegen.

27 Apr 2016 06:41:08
EASILY my first choice out of those mentioned would be RON Robert Zieler. I admit the majority of footage I've seen is YouTube.
Zieler for me is light years ahead of the others. 1) His distribution is fast and usually good, he's capable at passing, hoofing and throwing. 2) His positioning is very good. 3) His reading of the game is TOP CLASS. 4) he is LIGHTENING quick off his line. 5) he bullys his defenders 6) he is not afraid to throw his body into the firing line and 7) he is the obligatory good shot stopper. 8) he's got a great name 😎

All the other keepers mentioned that I've watched have deficiencies when viewed as suitable for the premier league. Most want to sit back on their line like Migs and most seem a bit too timid for the premier league. Your keeper needs to be a big-mouthed, arrogant lunatic 😄.

{Ed001's Note - also Zieler should have no trouble adapting to the UK as he used to live here.}

27 Apr 2016 07:40:18
Personally would look at horn maybe sirgu although I haven't seen him play in ages, would stay away from ter stegen though, maybe he just hasn't settled well at Barcelona but he has been consistently mediocre for them when playing.

27 Apr 2016 08:19:37
Would much rather have Karius than Horn from what I have seen of them.

27 Apr 2016 14:17:59
Horn, Karius or Zeiler would do fine with me. But Bernd Leno of Bayer Leverkusen is a beast but we may not get him.

27 Apr 2016 17:06:53
the fact that zieler has played in England before has to be a advantage, also Germany has a abundance of quality goalkeepers so they must be doing something right, I wouldn't say no to any of them but I feel we should also be looking for a top quality goalkeeping coach as the current one is not fit for purpose.

26 Apr 2016 21:04:55

Since the last time that Villarreal played in the Europa League the have not won during a 3 game period. The next 2 games after progressing in Europe were both losses away in Madrid first 2-1 at Rayo Vallecano before 3-0 at Real Madrid. On Sunday they played at home to Real Sociedad and drew 0-0 but they did manage to get all of their 4 shots at goal on target despite being outplayed for the majority of the game. In Europe this season though Villarreal are the tournaments top scorers and have a good balance of experienced professionals as well as exciting prospects including Denis Suarez who has 5 assists which is the most in the tournament.

Facts:
Villarreal have not beaten English opposition in their previous 10 games.
Villarreal have won all 6 of their home games in Europe this season and are unbeaten in their last 11 European fixtures.
We are the first team to reach round 12 without losing in a season.
Jurgen Klopp has never won a European tie in Spain but has won his last 4 games against Spanish opposition.
In Europa League history no team has scored more goals than Villarreal (82) or won more games (26), which is surprising since Sevilla have won the tournament 4 times.

27 Apr 2016 08:17:08
Looks a lot to me like they are heavily prioritizing the EL over the league at this point. Unless a key player has been out for whatever reason and it's reversed their fortunes.

26 Apr 2016 19:09:18
I hope Klopp starts Kolo and lovren ahead of Skrtel, I don't think my heart could take watching Skrtel in such an important game on thursday. As much as I like Martin, at times he can be a liability in my opinion and for me Kolo is head and shoulders above him, Kolo brings calmness to the back 5 but Skrtel (in my opinion) does the opposite, The southampton game springs to mind.

If not Kolo and Lovren then hopefully Lucas and Lovren but please not Skrtel.

Would like to know other peoples opinion on what a centre back pairing should be on thursday? Especially the eds, if you have time. :)

May those that passed find peace and contentment.
May those that carry on find the strength in their hearts.
Only the strength of your city could have brought this answer today.
It does not matter which team you support,
you expect to go home when the final whistle blows .
For 96 and their families that whistle was 27 years too late.

Our hearts and prayers go out to all, and when our song starts at the next match we will all sing together once again, That little bit louder and that little bit prouder.

First and foremost I can't believe I'm saying this but at long last there is JUSTICE FOR THE 96. It's such a bittersweet sentence because no one wanted this atrocity to happen but unfortunately it did and now we can finally say it wasn't our fault like they said it was. Shame on you South Yorkshire Constabulary, The S*n, Tory politicians (Thatcher) etc etc. We were the victims and finally we've been vindicated. Margaret Aspinall, Trevor Hicks, Kenny Dalglish, the lawyers involved in the case, all the victims relatives and friends that took the impossible task of trying to clear the names of the 96 to the authorities you deserve knighthoods for your herculian deeds whilst fighting this fight. I can't begin to appreciate the monumental sacrifices you have all made these last 26 years in your quest for justice but kudos to all of you. I remember Hillsborough like it was yesterday. I was a 14 year old living with my parents in London and I was Liverpool crazy. The Reds were the only thing that mattered in my life and I was looking forward to the game because in those days the FA Cup was hallowed. We were playing a very good Forest side managed by Clough. My excitement was exacerbated due to the fact Jocky Hansen was playing his first game after being out all season. The semi-finals weren't live on TV then so we had to make do with listening to it on the radio. The game kicked off and what proceeded was adversity of monumental proportions. The enormity of the situation didn't strike me immediately that would come days and weeks afterwards watching the funerals of the deceased. For a while I watched the TV footage on Grandstand (Saturday sports show at the time) of people the dead and injured being stretchered on advertising barriers etc and trying to work out what the hell was going on? I was sympathizing with Liverpool fans at the ground but I didn't know what for. My friend knocked for me and asked me if I wanted to go and play crazy golf. I'm ashamed to admit that I went with him because there was no football to watch. But for the next couple of hours while I had a putter in my hand all I could visualize was those desperate Liverpool fans pleading for help. I got home and Hillsborough was all over the news and the depth of the situation really hit home. Deaths tolls were mounting and i knew then life would never be the same for some people. It's at this time Kenny Dalglish became my hero off the pitch. I implore the younger Liverpool fans to google his gargantuan actions post Hillsborough and you will know why he is so revered in merseyside. Furthermore Micheal Owen can you please just crawl back under the rock you came from. how insensitive can you be? Nothing can bring back the 96 but today we can unite in our thoughts and say RIP 96 justice has been served!

I'm so glad that today's verdict has come at last.
Those 96 families will never get their loved ones back but tonight i hope they all sleep easier in their beds if even for 1 night.
Football rivalry on the pitch and terraces does not extend to a lack of humanity and unacceptable behaviour.

An absolutely brilliant triumph of justice in the trial today! It's a crying shame, it really is, that it's taken so long to come to light that those scummer coppers were guilty when we've known it all along.

But I'd like to take this opportunity to remember all the lives lost in other footballing disasters. So here's to the 39 that lost their lives at Heysel. And lest we forget those who lost their lives in the Munich air disaster. There are several other instances where innocent lives were lost and fans didn't return home and this is a magnificent day for the club in terms of the trial but let's remember these horrific incidents too. Today's court verdict was as massive result for Liverpool as any.

If people made honest if not tragic mistakes then so be it. I believe that it's time to move on and forgive them.

It's those people who covered up their mistakes with lies and smears that deserve criminal charges brought against them

I'm about the same age as Michael Owen, and growing up in Canada, we didn't get a huge amount of football on TV at time. But when the hype around him hit, it got picked up here a fair bit.

Given he and I were about the same stature and played the game in a similar fashion (albeit with marginal differences in skill and athleticism), he was integral to my becoming a Liverpool supporter.

It's a shame that so much of what he's done since has left me disappointed, but at least he did give me that one gift.

Yes what a fantastic day for the families.

26 Apr 2016 09:48:53
Hopefully the families of the 96 final get some small crumbs of comfort this morning, some vindication of there years of struggle and fighting the corrupt system who called them and thousands who attended that day myself included liers!

It's a total stain on this country that those responsible will not face criminal proceedings, yet again the people with power can do basically what they like when they like and never be held accountable for there actions!

{Ed001's Note - fingers crossed mate. The families have fought long and hard for this moment.}

26 Apr 2016 10:08:39
Correct ed001. Our thoughts and prayers are with them!

26 Apr 2016 09:32:32
Just wanted to say that I hope that the families of the 96 get all the help and support they need today and over the coming few weeks/ months, regardless of what the outcome is today.

Either outcome will result in extreme emotion and i just hope that those severely affected by this have the comfort they need.

If any of our fellow posters on here are directly involved then I am sure I speak for all of us when I say that you are in our thoughts and we wish you the best.

Ed01 or Ed002How does the ban work. In the NFL it's 4 then a season then banned for life. Is that similar or is it month long.

Believable0 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - I really have no idea what you are referring to 420.}

26 Apr 2016 08:58:24
Been on the 420 lad?

26 Apr 2016 06:30:42
Good luck to the families of the 96 today, I really hope they get the news that they have waited so long for and rightfully deserve. I have been part of the inquest myself, and understand the frustration and anguish of all concerned. Never in legal history has an investigation taken so long, and that is simply because we are Liverpool people, good people, who will fight to the bitter end for the people we love. Best wishes to all and stay resolute!

What are you disagreeing with you big Kn**bs?

26 Apr 2016 06:28:35
Let's say Sakho B test come positive and he gets a lenient suspension, 6-12 months, will that put is back on the market for another CB? Would we be looking at another signing? Loan? Another veteran like Kolo Toure? Internal like Gomez or academy? Keep Skrtel for another year.?

Also, have any teams been scouting or sounding out players we would like to keep? Origi, Clyne, Can, Firmino, Couthinho,

Believable0 Unbelievable7

26 Apr 2016 07:52:09
Skrtel, Ilori, Wisdom, Caulker etc will be sold or released.

With Sakho banned that leaves Lovren, Matip, Toure and Gomez. I expect we'd then sign another centre back and as Ed002 has said Klopp has always remained keen on Subotic.

26 Apr 2016 07:56:21
I'd say if he was banned we still have Lovren, Matip arriving and also Gomez coming back from injury. The club might show interest in Subotic if he's banned. I don't see either of Skrtle or Toure staying still.

{Ed002's Note - The implication from Toure is that he will be staying.}

26 Apr 2016 09:36:24
Ed, have you heard or do you know of anything regarding a supposed player/ coach role for Toure? I have seen a few articles suggesting this. Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - All I know is that he told an African journalist who was in England to talk with his brother and Iheanacho that Klipperty had told him there is a place for him at Liverpool next season.}

26 Apr 2016 10:00:49
Jonesred, Toure and Klopp have both indicated that he will be here next season still. Probably in a more peripheral playing role with more duties off the pitch such as coaching and guiding younger players. Gomez is still young as well. So if Sakho is banned we will definitely need another centre back as Toure and Gomez can't play every single game in the event of an injury crisis.

Klopp tried for Subotic in January so he will surely try again in the summer in my opinion.

Migs is a mediocre keeper at best. All this talk of him being a world class shot-stopper is way off the mark also. He makes routine saves, and makes the elementary fundamentals of goalkeeping look astonishingly difficult. I wince when he kicks because it comes back at us straight away more often than not which consequently is an attack on our defence. Kasper Schmeichel throws the ball further than Migs can kick it. The person that recommended him needs to be bought to task. He needs replacing and it should be the next piece of transfer business we conduct. He's a liability pure and simple. Anyone that advocates for him needs a slap.

Believable12 Unbelievable6

26 Apr 2016 07:20:42
It's also frustrating that there's no evidence of improvement over the 3 years, which in turn raises questions about the effectiveness of the goalkeeping coach.

26 Apr 2016 08:43:00
I suppose he did play the character of Jack Thompson quite well - Agent Carter :-)

26 Apr 2016 11:27:50
he's made something like the 15th most saves in the league. Hardly a good shot stopper.

{Ed002's Note - Not a good statistic to use - generally teams toward the top will have few shots to be saved in the league.}

26 Apr 2016 06:23:08
Migs has been pretty much the same keeper from day 1. His distribution sucks and always backfire to us. The clubbed two windows to ship him out and WR DID NOT. He is on a 5 year mega deal with poor showing and no interested parties outside. We are stuck.

25 Apr 2016 23:21:24
Just watched the Spurs game and have to say Lloris has dropped a Mignolet like clanger for West Broms equaliser that's just killed any chance of them winning the league and we'd all take him in a heartbeat! All keepers make mistakes it's just magnified when it's at your club. I do want a better keeper of course but certainly don't think Migs deserves half the stick he gets on here.

Believable2 Unbelievable14

{Ed033's Note - If Liverpool had De Gea for instance, it's highly likely that Liverpool would be further up the Premier league table now. That's really why LFC decision makers should get stick over the long standing goalkeeper situation.

26 Apr 2016 00:48:53
I hear that Ed and I'm not saying that Migs is a good keeper but I do think he gets unfairly criticised for every little mistake he makes. I'm the same sometimes he frustrates the hell out of me but I'm just saying if you look at some of the so called better keepers out there they all make mistakes. Cech against Palace for example or De Gea against us at OT. Migs would've been crucified for conceding those goals. I appreciate its because he's got previous but just feel we should all lay off him a bit.

{Ed001's Note - Migs gets it because he makes ALL the mistakes that the others make collectively on his own. Lloris doesn't get it because he very rarely makes them. It is not that he is unfairly criticised, he deserves it and if he wants to deserve praise, he needs to earn that, instead of continuing to earn condemnation. If Migs had made just that one error you picked out for the other keepers, fine, but he hasn't, he has made countless errors.}

26 Apr 2016 02:58:16
lloris got obstructed. migs just has bad positional awareness. doesn't read the game well enough and gets himself into trouble.

26 Apr 2016 04:48:42
Even without his mistakes Mignolet is generally poor keeper. He doesn't command his area, his aerial ability is poor, he is (as has been discussed at length by ed001) terrible at using his feet, he is a good shot-stopper but nothing more and, most damningly, he causes those around him to panic rather than bringing a sense of calm. Even without his numerous mistakes he is a bang average keeper - I think we can make the CL spots with him in the team, I don't think we could win the league with him in the team.

26 Apr 2016 05:21:16
If we had someone with authority in the box we'd be competing for top 4.

If we had De Gea we'd be almost certainly top 4.how many games has he dug Man Utd out of this season alone.

26 Apr 2016 07:51:27
Almost certainly? We'd be top 4 guaranteed with De Gea and if we'd any sort of consistent central pairing we'd be another 3/ 4 points better again. I'm really looking forward to seeing who Jurgen brings in.

26 Apr 2016 09:30:14
Pips - you can't just take everything as a 1 off unless it actually is. Mings made a mistake in the last match - his last mistake before that was 3 games ago if that. Lloris made a mistake last game - it was his first notable mistake for 6 months. Very few of Mings individual errors are so bad that they deserve the condemnation - it's the sheer volume of them that is the issue.

26 Apr 2016 09:33:49
Pipsscreamer, you are talking utter nonsense mate, his mistakes are highlighted because there are so many of them and on a consistent basis which in turn are costing us points on a consistent basis, I'm really worried there's one coming in one of the legs in the semi, he spreads total uncertainty throughout the defence. If it was isolated mistakes then 99% of fans would support him, but it's 3 years of totally avoidable blunders.

26 Apr 2016 11:18:04
Yeah all keepers make mistakes, it's just migs makes a lot more than most. Especially at prem level.

26 Apr 2016 11:37:48
What gets me is the absolute determination to shout down any one not on board with the the 'player A is sh*t' narrative. It's the same every time, a player gets called out, the majority agree, a few turn round saying that's over the top and he's not that bad, the majority turn round and argue even harder making even more over the top statements. After a few days the clamour dies down before moving onto player B after the next bad result. Sometimes it goes back to player A, sometimes player A demonstrates that he's actually quite good and the majority change their mind.

I know that player A (and B, C, D etc) aren't the best in their positions and I know that we should be looking to replace them with better but as long as they wear a Liverpool shirt and as long as they respect the club I'll respect them. We know what Migs' weaknesses are (and his strengths) and we know that the opposition will keep looking to exploit those weaknesses, what happened on Saturday didn't change that so why obsess over it? Migs has had bad games, probably too many, but he's also had good games and we should be able to appreciate the good whilst acknowledging the bad. He may be replaced in the summer but he's going to be the Liverpool number 1 for the next 6-7 games and right now he doesn't need us questioning him, he needs us supporting him.

26 Apr 2016 12:06:15
Good post muscat 👌 (and I'm one of his biggest critics) .
You're correct, he is only doing his best and he is a red.

Defend the guy, fair enough, but I suppose what frustrates people is when others defend his mistakes.

26 Apr 2016 12:35:02
Muscatred - good post in general but when it comes to Mings, I actually don't know what his strengths are and just like Balotelli, I'm tired of trying to support someone who seems not to notice either way. The only period of good games I;ve seen him have have been the couple here and there when there was a real chance of him losing his spot in the squad.
