Bad game today, looked second best all over the pitch and, most disappointingly, in the intensity department, we were out fought by Stoke. Having said that they are massive and play a dull dull football which is very difficult to play against, especially at Stoke. I wasn't expecting much from this game, not sure why anyone else was - really difficult and was always going to require a certain amount of good fortune, which didn't really happen (Skrtel slipping for us to concede within minutes of going ahead a good example).

Nowhere near as bad as people are making out though, was a fairly even game, we defended poorly and were subsequently punished each time we did so and failed to capatalise on the good chances we had (Suarez at the beginning of the second half another example). Never really controlled the game though, was a real test of the passing, tika-taka philosophy Rodgers is trying to implement but on this occasion failed, not calm and controlled enough when under pressure and because of this gave the ball away too much. Was very disappointing but certainly don't think it is a disaster, we'll have much easier games this season, we need to capatalise.

Biggest lesson is about forwards - the owners did not spend the money required in the summer to buy a forward that we so obviously needed and we have suffered as a result. A quality finisher could have seen us standing 10 points higher in the table at the moment, i think FSG have a lot of answer for.

Massively agree mate! I have faith in Rodgers...FSG? Not so much!

They've appointed the right manager but financially backed the wrong one

Fairly even game ?? We're you there ?? We were struggling to pass to a team mate in parts and there was no invention..
I can take defeat ( not a pretend fan been a red over 40 years ! ) but what I can't take is not trying ... If I produced that kind of effort at work I would get the bullet ...
Fight for the shirt or get out !
By the way respect to Stoke fans for standing up in respect of the 96 when we sang

3-1 down and we bring on Cole and Henderson, not to mention the fact that Downing was playing and Sahin left out in favour of Allen.

Reina,Cole,Downing must go.

Putting Carragher on the bench stops Coates from developing and is a waste of a substitute(yes, he is a legend but that's in the past, sentiment doesn't get success I'm affraid...)

Not giving Carroll a chance is criminally naive as we don't have a plan B.

And how bad does the sale of Torres look now? We have a striker who isn't worth £35m, and now are going for a striker that was offered along with apparently £45m when we sold Torres.

If you thought 2012 was bad, then just wait til 2013.

It's not going to get better and that we are signing mediocrity shows us where the owners see things. Sturridge is yet more Chelsea rubbish that we don't need.

I'm affraid we will need to let the board know we are not prepared to accept this drivel any more.

We got rid of H&G so they should know that as a collective we are a hard bunch to deal with when angry.

Oh and ed002, before you say this is negative and we should blindly follow our manager, board etc, I ask you this, if the best player you were after was Sturridge, you would be extemely underwhelmed, to say the least.(personally I'm livid, can't stand him as a player and will give him apathy followed by abuse when he inevitably fails, which is a basic right for a paid up season ticket holder when presented with total rubbish!)

And if you we're 3-1 down and the Manager brought on the equivalent(for the sake of argument Mikel and Malouda) you would be fuming too, you would have to admit that as true.

These are bleak days, lets not pretend, three useless appointments since Benitez and look where we are. The truth hurts.

Wow because at least all of this post was untruthful.
derryred

Agreed mate bar the Rodgers appointment.
Right man but no backing....FSG STAND UP!!

Allen was'nt even playing and he gets hammered.
Tafred

Yeah! If Benitez was our manager we would have hammered Stoke at the Brittania, just like we always did!

Hi guys, very poor result tonigt, very frustrating been a pool fan but the fact of the matter is that's where we are at as a club at this moment, we all really need to stick together and give our backing to the manager but also the owners need to help him too ,yes we may get sturride and ince to keep up going till the summer but then the owners really need to dig deep the squad needs at least 5 players in the summer , and the owners need to find the 50 million needed for this,my fear is we just don't have it ! Suarez will give us one more season after to this to try and reach top 4 after that he will be gone I feel, and to be honest no true fan could blame him, he gives us everything in every minute of every game, but just needs help ! I have a feeling deep down the owners are good people and realise this ,but they must know we have to get what ever money we can for downing, Cole and caroll and put that money straigt back into the squad , but for now let's just stay strong and give our full support to the team and our manager , johnny d

Pathetic results will get you the sack. In Brendan nobody trusts

Pathetic posts will get you banned. In the above poster we shall not trust.

Do Whiners have a name or they are just called Whiners socially?

Every Anti-BR says he is an arrogant fellow but do they realize how painful it must be for an arrogant douche to lose so get a grip...I love BR's arrogance and attitude and he will instill this swagger in LFC during his reign...You know somebody asked this question on our forum that how ManU are able to win from impossible situations and overturn results in their favor..Its because of their Old Whiskey Nose's attitude and spirit and not because of Hair Dryer treatment...We are lacking that spirit, that killer instinct..that belief that we cant lose! I am sure BR will achieve all this with the LFC team that he will build and own over a period of time..Lets give him time!....At least!

Stop wishing for Houdini or Santa Claus!

I've said it for ages but we will better from January and it's not long, now.
Have a bit of faith and patience.
All the best,
Rigsby.

26 Dec 2012 23:23:38
I think the real problem with LFC this season is fan's expectations! Rodgers may have said top four is achievable, but what else was he going to say? Of course it's achievable, but is it realistic and expected?! Of course not! Rodgers' was always a long term project, not a short term solution...if we were looking for quick fixes the owners would have thrown money at the club and left an even bigger mess to sort out later! Also remember how much money has already been wasted over the last few seasons. The club has almost had to be stripped bare in order for us to progress in a sustainable way, and we have an extremely thin squad. The loss today was so frustrating especially after a great win last week, and Rodgers needs to give the lads a serious kick up the ass most of them looked half asleep. But really, get serious guys we have far fewer players than last season and much less experience in the squad and we are not that far behind where we were. We still have a shot at the FA Cup and EL, and the Jan window will soon be open...things could get better yet. We all feel like we have been waiting long enough, but there is no quick fix. If you really love the club keep supporting them unconditionally, and be patient!

Rarely do I pick on the team. Occasionally I will have a go at a player but rarely the team. But this evening was a disgrace (other than Suarez). Uncommitted, lazy shysters. Total rubbish and there are more loyal people stacking shelves in Poundland. I don't know where the blame lies but I suspect it is the senior players and the management team. If FSG are deluded enough to think that that shower, led by those inept clowns, are going to finish in the top four by the end of next season then they deserve to go bankrupt. Ypu cannot - I repeat cannot, play football the way you want until you have broken the opposition psycologically, As Quiet Bob used to say, you can play football when you are 3-0 up. Stoke didn't just beat us today, they made us look exactly what we have become - a lower half team. And they did it easily. Don't get into this 'Stoke are hard to beat' flannel. Stoke are exactly the sort of team you need to beat away from home if you even half half a desire to get to top four. Rodgers you should hang your head in shame. Those monkeys you put on the pitch this evening made you look a clueless person - if you pay them this week you are a weak man. In fact if you pay yourself you are a fraud.. Rant over. QPR next. RED LENIN

QPR and sunderland games are huge now, really need to stand up and be counted. that was appalling tonight.

km

Well said LENIN. The PLAYERS are to blame, not just today I feel, but on many occasions, this season and the past. Some of these over-paid buffoons should be ashamed of themselves!

When you pull on the RED Shirt, there are some things that are expected of you, fight, passion and effort are a given, these people stroll around the park like they know-it-all, in a don't-care attitude that should never be forgiven.

I am not blaming any one player here, but the whole bunch, their performance was a disgrace to Liverpool Football Club and if they had any integrity, they would refuse their weekly wage. Brendan Rodgers should NOT defend these clowns for their pathetic excuse for a performance today.

26 Dec 2012 23:22:08
we should forget barca tika taka.and solve our own problems.
werner/henry see no need to get top 4 this year.
they told BR to play cole downing henderson to keep some value,if they had ambitions they would have spend more last summer.
and pls eds please dont tell us again that they spend more than others, the other teams have better players thats why they spend less.
we are 5/6 players short.

26 Dec 2012 23:15:44
disappointed tonight, skertle slip, thought johnson should have done better on the post for the second, but all in all we deserved to get nothing.
shelvey was poor tonight, though no one played well. we seem to just lack ideas when 40 yards out with the ball. a few passes and then if we still have the ball, just fire it into the box, no end product.
sturridge should make a difference, playing up top would allow suarez to play outside. in the middle lucas and stevie g i like together, then either shelvey/sahin/susso/allen take your pick.
eds are there any more young players coming up that are at the level of sterling/susso/kelly/wisdom. would be great if an attacking midfielder could be un earthed, as i cant see erikson or isco landing at anfield any time soon. roll on qpr. knew it was going to be a tough season. still think we will end up on 60 points about sixth/seventh. still in two cups. rome wasnt built in a day.
some people mensioned barca earlier, in 2001 we beat them in uefa semi final. then they were playing uefa cup football, r madrid and man u were paying 20,30 and 40 million per player. barca built it up slowly with their youth system. look whos on top winning cl every second season. barca will win it this year as well.

B O H

Actually think our midfield lacks fight of lates.

26 Dec 2012 23:15:13
I realise we're in transition mode new formation and all that but what makes these performances hard to handle is last year under KD we were progressing and were around 5th and place and looked exciting before we won the carling cup after which we fell off a bit, but this year to me we've gone back to the way we were playing towards the end of Rafa's reign. We've gone backwards. I'm not sure about rogers at this point, But he has to have time to get his type of players in. time will tell.

26 Dec 2012 23:12:30
I know we shunt xpect too much this season n stoke wer a hard game but besides suarez d rest didnt show any desire to win they wer soo slow today weres d motivation gone t play for dat jersey! Seriousli am behind rodgers but he needs t stop chattin bull n b a man admit he was wrong bwt carrol n bring him back we hav no plan b n are playin football in our on box lol schoolboy stuff reli hope we get some decent additions in n get rid of downin cole hendo absolute garbage overrated british playas arghhhhhhhhhh gotta stay calm

So another defeat, one up away from home why not shut up shop?

Think we seriously need more than Sturridge and Ince someone we thought was nt good enough and sold.

Ok Rodgers revolution needs time but it also needs quality players to.make it work. I posted on here night of transfer window closing in summer that if we did nt buy some proper quality we would be where we are now.

Money needs to be spent on big players our squad is as thin as Posh spice.

We need faces in lots of positions not just up front,. I can see another lowly finish this season.

Shut up shop after 2 minutes !

you need to get real!

26 Dec 2012 23:11:40
i think the most worrying thing from tonights performance, apart from the lack of spirit in quite a few players was the fact that rogers left downing and shelvey on for so long and we didnt have a man on either post for corners,if he cant see that these needed sorting then its worrying.the fact is though we have to give him this season and next to assemble his team, then fully judge him. rob b

I wasn't too fussed about Downing, it was Shelvey for me that was frustrating. I think he made one decent pass all game.

^ By that time we'll probably be playing championship football! Come on! Fulham were awful! they got beat by QPR the game before us! Villa embarassed us at home then go'es and get's hammered 8 nil at Chelsea then 4 nil at home to Tottenham! West Ham were unlucky as if Diame had'nt have pulled up we would'nt of won that game! I think Rodger's has lost the dressing room! Either the player's don't agree with his tactic's or man-management skill's something is amiss at Anfield!

26 Dec 2012 23:11:33
Frustrating game, it's unfair for some to be calling for Rodgers head. A lot of the bad he has inherited, not created.

The money wasted by Kenny and Hodgson have set us back quite a few years, unfortunately. About £120M wasted on numerous players, and only one of those players is actually good enough to be in our squad, Suarez. We basically wasted £100M+ on one player who's good enough.

Downing
Carroll (already gone)
Henderson (may improve)
Enrique
Adam (already gone)
Coates (not terrible, but not first team quality)
Joe Cole (taking up £100K+ of valuable wages)
Poulson (gone)
Konchesky (gone)
Meireles (gone)

That's a large chunk of the players we've signed over the last 2 years. If all was well, most aren't even good enough to be in our squad never mind our first team. They've cost probably £150M+ in transfer fees alone, never mind wages included. This is the reality of the situation we're in and what Rodgers inherited.

Brendan isn't blameless either, maybe he could have better spent in the summer. Borini in particular doesnt seem worth £11M, Allen will be worth the £15M long term.

He doesn't seem to be utilising the squad to the best of its capabilities, maybe that's down to lack of depth/quality. But even so, some of his tactics/substitutions are questionable. I personally don't think Shelvey and Gerrard should play together, especially away from home. Both give the ball away too easily and frequently and don't contribute enough defensively.

Joe Cole has consistently been used from the bench and, West Ham goal aside, has done absolutely nothing positive.

Long term we need to invest in some obvious positions and it's going to take a number of transfer windows to happen. Reina needs to be replaced or have stronger competition to push him.

A stronger left back needs to be purchased, although Enrique has improved in recent weeks I think we need a better quality player long term.

Same with centre back, we need stronger completion to Agger and Skrtel, they're too comfortable knowing that if they make mistakes they're still guaranteed a starting place next week. Both have made some bad errors in recent weeks.

Right Back and Centre Midfield is probably were we are healthiest. Glen is one of the best in the league whilst we have good competition in the centre, maybe a creative midfielder is needed and Stevie needs to be phased out. He clearly isn't at the same level, anyone who says otherwise is in denial.

We could do with a bit more quality out wide, Sterling and Suso are fantastic talents and have a great future but right now we need more assists and goals from our wide men.

We should be looking to move Downing and Cole on, we could get a small fee for Downing and free up some valuable wages from releasing Cole.

Up front Suarez obviously needs help, he's clearly our best player by a country mile but he needs more quality to carry the burden. I think Sturridge will do well, he's fast, strong and can score goals too. I'm less convinced of Ince.

It's going to be a long process, it will take a number of years before we're good enough for top 4 never mind challenging for leagues.

I believe we have the right manager and owners to do it, we just can't afford the same costly mistakes than the previous regimes. It's crucial we get the right players in the right positions.

I would urge folks to be patient, as frustrating as it can be, and keep supporting the team. Getting on their backs won't help at all.

If we all pull together the future can be so bright. There is opportunity there for us to dominate if we have the stability.

United will be without Ferguson in a couple of years. Arsenal will be without Wenger. Chelsea will always be Chelsea, wrecklessly sacking managers for 3 bad results. There's a real chance for us to push back on up into the top 4 at least.

Cheers..

I missed the first half hour of the match but from what I saw Liverpool were second best. Fair play to Stoke/Pulis. Their gameplan, organisation and desire destroyed Liverpool's passing. Until Liverpool learn, are brave enough and have the right players to play their football against this type of team, these results will continue to happen.

It's clear we need improvements in the quality of the squad in order to play this type of football. Therefore, it's too early to call for BR's head. I'd say he needs at least 2-3 transfer windows to get his players in. And as disappointing as tonights result/performance was, we have to keep this in mind. Unfortunately, there WILL be more disappointments ahead.

Gordy

Surely it now has to be time for reina to leave, the man is a shadow of what he used to be and we cant continue with a keeper who simply never makes any saves. iv never seen a keeper in such terrible form for so long keep his place. iv no confidence at all and the players surely would feel the same.we have to act in the winter window or we face a bottom half finish for sure.

Tooly man .....

Very true he is revolting these days

26 Dec 2012 23:08:43
Simple fact is no-one in the squad is someone who is willing to dig in and battle in matches like that. No-one who can outmuscle and hatchet their way around the pitch in case we can't compete with our passing. We need to take a lesson from Stoke today and learn their work ethic. Not one Stoke player doesn't ever not give it 110% workrate. We are lucky if our team give a 70% workrate and another simple fact is that so many players just aren't top quality (like spearing, shelvey, downing, Cole etc) and our replacements don't look too inspiring (sturridge struggles to score with one chance, he needs five/six to score one, Ince isn't proven in the EPL and neither is Jeffren if we loan him in.) The battle is to ensure we are top ten now, the CL/EL race is over.

Brendon, take a look at Match of the Day and watch how Utd scored their last goal. That's right Brendon, men in the box, not tippy tippy possession crap. Men in the box. Brendon, your an Acadamy manager and that's it.

Ozone {Ed001's Note - we had men in the box and Suarez wouldn't pass to any of them. You aren't even an academy manager, so give up the pathetic attempt at an insult. Embarrassing brat throwing his toys out of his pram at a defeat, that is all you are.}

You talk clap trap Ed, we never get men in the box. Mark my words, this experiment of Rodgers is going nowhere. He's way out of his depth. The players we have aren't good enough for what he wants them to do. He should throw his dossier in the bin. It's academic and that's all Rodgers brand of football is.

Ozone {Ed001's Note - we had 2 or 3 in the box on every attack, not my fault if you have your head so far up your own backside you can't watch the match. I guess you are too busy listening to the imbeciles they have commentating who kept saying that lie too. I counted at least two players in the box every time they said there was no one in the box, but then I use my own eyes. Your only interest is whining and making up more things to whine about.}

I have to agree with the ed on today's game that we did always have men in the box. Not the case in some of our other matches but today's match there were men in there. However, on numerous occasions both of them ran for the 6 as the ball go cut to the pk mark. Suso was in there all the first half but he has no chance in the air against a Stoke D.
Borinin would spend 90 minute in there and no one would put it in for him to attack.
Andrew

I was there Ed and I didn't see it as you did. If you want to split hairs a about it yes, we may have had 2 men in the box against 5 defenders. Watch the majority of Utds goals from yesterday, especially the last goal, more attackers in the box than the oppositions defenders. The odds are stacked in their favour and they do it most weeks. It's not rocket science, theyre not trying to reinvent the game with a dossier, just common sense and how we used to play when we broke in the glory days. Ive been told by someone who's mates with some of the players and some of them don't know what they're supposed to be doing. Villa and Stoke, dear o dear o me. We were outplayed against West Ham and got lucky. 3-1 down and he brings on Cole after spending £34 mill.

Ozone {Ed001's Note - they also know they can get away with it because they have faith in their defence to stop any breaks. We don't have that, so we can't flood the box. You really think the glory days are just going to come back over night? We have gone from none in the box on every attack, to getting at least two in there at every attack. Give it time, you can't change everything all at once. This season was always going to be a write off.}

Ed001. Find some balance. The first poster is clearly a person, but when you start by claiming we had 2-3 in the box for every attack, when we clearly didn't - you leave yourself open to be slated.

By the end of your argument you are inventing reasons why we do not have many attackers in the box...

Then you finish by stating this season was 'always a write off?'.

Get control of yourself man.

One of our worst performances of the season, yes.

But we are the same team that played Utd off the park, and the same team that was roundly praised a few days back.

An important season which is vital for assessing who stays, who goes, and implementing a style of play for the future.

If we finish 8th, then good. If we finish higher, then well done lads - progress, and achieved with less time and resources than Dalglish had at his disposal.

Get a grip, people.

BJH YNWA {Ed001's Note - rubbish, I pointed out that the number has increased, also why we can't just flood the box like was suggested. There was 2 or 3 in the box, only Suarez was too greedy to pass the ball and wasted chance after chance. Your reply to me is total bull. You need to get a grip and stop talking out of your arse and try and find examples where I was wrong. Instead you have called me a liar with nothing to back up your words, just your pathetic attack. If you want to slate me, fine, but slate me for the right reasons, not make up excuses to be a knob.}

Well Stoke have conceded 4 goals this season at Britannia and we have socred one of them....

So BJH YNWA I dont see what youare talking about....

Plus Ed001 is bang on when he says Suarez doesnt pass to other people inside the box.......If you see Liverpool playing you should not be surprised....

Guys I think you have to stop putting a lot of the blame on Rodgers, I think what a lot of you don't realise is the damage has already been done in the last couple of seasons from previous managers, I think things could have been a lot different if Rodgers took over when Rafa departed, but Rodgers would of needed that season of experience beforehand. Too many fans are way too pessimistic, when we lose its because of whatever excuse, and when we win were gunna finish top 4, don't get me wrong ill support my team through the darkest days and I do believe we have got the right manager just gotta give him time, but as for our performances we can't play our way outta defence because we don't know what to do under pressure, need to spend in January not nessecarily spend big, but spend right

I think its quiet lame that all these supporters blame br for the way liverpool play when they lose, didmany one actually watch the game gerrard the kop golden boy was pathetic tonight i dont see any one blaming him for being crap why cause he lead us in the past how many times do people need to be told hes not the best player we got and should be dropped apart from a few players who dont fit the team we are in another season going to be right up there patiene is whats needed has br blown 116 million on tosh no dalglish did but br gets blamed for the 'state of the team' well least we arent almost going bust and are building a team for the future stop living in the past and open your eyes you fickle people supportersnsupport not moan get over it and in 12 months time when your praising were the team is remeber what you said today stop pouring hatred and start supporting or go support a team like man city (glory hunters are not welcome at lfc) andyjh316

Just to sum up to anyone who just got onto this site. Basically everyone and there grandmothers uncle seems to hate BR they want a proper "manager" like Mourinho cause we all know how great he's doing at Real and how theres no back room issues at all! They also have taken the express decision to sell everyone of our players because they are crap, useless and past it. With the money we make I think we can buy a whole new squad but why do that? Might as well give the money too the fans cause apparently that's the only thing that will please them! Wake up people on this page slating the team, the manager and the owners the only "muppets" are you lot.

Everyone needs to take a deep breath, and CHILL OUT! We lost a game to Stoke away... They haven't been beaten in 16 games at home! This season was written off as a rebuilding season from the very start! Give it time, and we will be great again. Would you rather be a horrible, nasty team like stoke, playing disgusting football? Rodgers is doing his best with what he was left, and we need to calm down and roll with the punches... It's one game!

Cheer up everyone, It's christmas!

HBRed

Everyone would love you to be right.
let's hope you are.
it's just so awful to watch though
please make it stop

or should I say please make it start

even the 4-0 somehow seemed to lack something...anfield has never seemed so quiet

Poor poor complacency for a fan.
This is not progress.

10th place says it all. Having spent £30m. That Joe Cole winning goal at WHam has saved a relegation position looming. Only QPR and Sunderland below us are worse per pound spent.

W.Brom, Everton and Tottenham have alternative playing strategies. Lfc is a one horse team, that's all BR is offering. Jmac

This post is very disrespectful to Stoke!

Yes this was a difficult game, but a game we would have won a few seasons ago.

And we ARE playing horrible football! Wake up and realize that.

StrabaneRed

I am chilled out.
Rodgers is rubbish.

I take your point regarding stokes home record recently but what's getting most fans down is the lack of improvement thus far. We have had a change of management, some experienced players have left, our most expensive player has been loaned out but we are in no way better off.

Rebuilding is what we've been doing for the past few years and its showing no sign of improvement.
Losing to Swansea, villa and now stoke has left everyone worried about losing to QPR and then maybe the final nail in bee dens coffin, FA Cup exits at Mansfield.
We have found ourself on the brink of maybe another manager change. Should those two results go bad on us will FSG be able to see along term future with Rodgers?
Letting Carroll go was always going to be controversial and it has left us so exposed its the weakest we have been in my 35 years of watching Liverpool.
We needed Carroll Suarez and borini plus another striker if we were really looking to improve. Goals win games not passes.
Lets hope it's a better 2013.
Good luck {Ed001's Note - Carroll? It would have been idiotic to keep a player who scores so rarely and is injured so often. I wish people would stop whinging like brats about someone no one wanted anyway!}

Last time lfc won in the league against stoke was 1984 come on guys get real even a couple of years ago we didn't win.

It's NOT 1 game. It's 19 games and 25 points!

hi eds been coming on to this site for a few years now i have supported liverpool through thick and thin and never been negative towards this beloved club but i have to say we were totally shocking today and i am starting to get a bit concerned about our performances i just cant see things getting any better i have supported liverpool for over 50 years and it saddens me to see us play these days {Ed052's Note - why are you concerned. What did you expect this season}

26 Dec 2012 23:01:09
I too feel concern, why? Because of the lack of passion shown by some LFC players. The Stoke players never stopped running for each other. Totally committed to the team. Dirk Kuyt wasn't the most skillful player but never gave up, too may of our lads were off the pace and sloppy today. A few should be ashamed of their performance against Stoke.

That's why BRITISH is buying English players who can be bothered, but all anyone seems to do is moan

This was always going to be a very difficult game. I said beforehand that we'd be lucky to get a point. We were pretty shabby TBH but at least we exorcised the penalty demon.

Len

2 quotes for Ed052:

1) Tom Werner: top 4 is vital (August 2012)

2) Brendan Rodgers: we can finish in the top 2 (December 2012)

I don't know what you were expecting Ed052 but I expected better than 25 points from 19 games (what Roy Hodgson achieved) {Ed052's Note - last night did not define our season. Lets just see where we are at the end of it, we are not far from the top 4. If improvement is shown I am sure BR will stay. It is ot the 3nd of the world. We have been spending less than expected I am sure becuase of the absende of Champions league.secondly, Rodgers never siad we could become 2nd.He said that top 4 isnt a target and that we should aim to finish as high up the league as possible}

26 Dec 2012 22:40:18
Look at some of the players that ended up on the pitch yet again.

Downing, Henderson, Cole.

I thought those days were over when Dalglish left, alas, it was not to be. Let's good January is a good one because it damn well needs to be.

Why is downing and hendo taking blame for this. Downing was decent when he had service and worked hard, then the match was over long before hendo came on, and when he did he wasn't bad.
derryred

Considering how well downing has been playing recently it's no suprise he was played today.

I said this at the beginning of the season and I will say it again, I will be more than happy with finishing 5th or 6th, I think that would be a step forward in the right direction for the club.. I just really don't understand what people are on when they talk about top four get real lads.. Mr Brendan Rodgers clearly isn't doing something right, well actually anything for that matter. Things need to change and quickly, I just can't wait for this horrible year to be over! Hope Brendan can turn things around. Dan H

Always nice to read posts from the true fans that know the game so well.

Can't believe Liverpool lost they should never lose to anyone ever it's not good enough. Get rid of the owners, management , players and fans. Everyone needs to go.

Shelvey over sahin ? V

Shelves over Sahin any day!

The fact Shelvey stayed on the pitch for 90 minutes says everything about the strength of our squad.

26 Dec 2012 22:35:02
Did you watch that Mr Henry and Werner, how do you like those apples. Maybe its time for your intervention.

26 Dec 2012 22:33:48
From the bbc website before today's game

Liverpool have never had fewer points after 19 games since the three-points-for-a-win rule was introduced in 1981

Enough said exhibit a for the prosecution

Well how many seasons since then did we play with only 1 senior striker, and most of the squad under 22 ?
derryred

I agree with a lot of what you say derryred, but this time I can't.

Our formation only uses one striker, and we've had one of the world's best up front all season. The one game he was missing, we won (West Ham).

If most of the squad are under 22, that's partially the managers doing. I don't see it as a problem anyway tbh.

Seeing Downing and Cole in action hardly suggests that older is better.

I'd rather a 22 year old Gerrard and Reina if you're suggesting a trade too. lol.

We'll be okay. Though that performance was a shambles last night.

If we play like that for the rest of the season, I will join the calls for BR's head. But I feel he can turn it around.

He's gotta start learning from his mistakes though.

For example, this talk of new contracts for Gerrard, whilst gushing about his 'never missing a minute of football' and his 'great contribution' has me a little worried.

It's almost as if BR doesn't notice what's in front of him.

Our problems are largely mental, the pressing, movement and tempo were all missing yesterday.

Though I also admit our team selection left a lot to be desired. Suso AND Downing across our front 3? I wouldn't even do that in a computer game, never-mind a serious match. Very dumb.

Brendan Rodgers post-match interview quotes nowadays reminds me of Gerard 'We've turned a corner' Houllier.

Houllier (decent man, who can forget 2001?) turned so many 'corners', he got lost and signed Diouf, Diao and Cheyrou!

Brendan ffs, we were poor tonight, just admit it! {Ed052's Note - he did}

Did you not watch the interview after? He said we were poor defensively. He stated we need consistency.

I think he was pretty honest. I like BR he needs time and to get more of the players he wants and needs.

26 Dec 2012 22:29:33
There's always more posts on here when liverpool lose then when we win. Lets be honest though did anyone really expect us to take all three points against the meanest defence in the country and the keeper with the highest clean sheets in the league? Away as well? Be a little realistic. All this talk of firing BR is pointless because no manager in the world would be willing to take the high risk job that liverpool has become. I honestly believe the players are too blame for tonight's performance they take it all for granted after last weeks win and the consistency that we would expect from playing the same squad that won four nil against Fulham was just not there. They get complacent after a big win and always slip up has no one realised this by now?

AndyKopLiverpool

We did not expect to be outpyaed by stoke did we?

Sorry for not reading all the post, but yes, when we went 1 up I expected us to be in the kind of posistion to win a match against a mid table team. Not to concede and flail like a mid table team.

26 Dec 2012 22:26:22
The QPR game all of a sudden seems a hard one to win.
Let's use the same formation Brendan, as all teams are tactically the same right?? Wrong.--- inexperienced little hobbit. Go back to the shires

Spot on, that's ll he does. Stick to the last winning formula, its a joke. Why start with Suso against a team like Stoke.

We should be looking into the character of players we sign.Balls and winners who compete required steel as well as ability. And we need a greater physical presence. We were bullied by Villa and now Stoke. The criers banging on bout skillul little players need to realise in our league you need Both! And Brendan needs to realise it too

I agree that we got bullied but the littlest man on the pitch do'snt shirk a challenge and get's amongst it! Sterling surprise's me how he mix'es it! he's very hard to shrug off and make's a nuisance of himself and lot of the time win's the ball! He could give a lesson in passion and desire to one or three other teammate's!

26 Dec 2012 22:24:03
I understand we need to give Rogers time but we need to mix are style of play, you can't copy Barcelona unless you have Messi, Xavi and Iniesta. Man utd , Man city and Chelsea have all won the premiership by playing football but also mixes there style up with wingers taken on fullbacks, getting crosses in the box for strikers to attack, set pieces etc. too many times are we dominating games but can't find that killer pass. What happened to the days of 2 strikers? Will always back whoevers in charge but feeling very dejected.

If we are going to get balls in the box from wide then I have a revolutionary idea. Wait for it, let's recall Andy Carroll.
Scouse_Pride

People seem to forget the Barcelona
Team before pep with ego ronaldinio and co. Barcelona have been good for a while.

Sorry meant Eto not ego.

Barca were awful for the season before Pep came in. Things weren't great at the club for a while.

Every top team has a blip, fact is barcalona were good b4 iniesta and xavi were starting together.

Quantify awful.

I think what you mean is that they didnt win evrything going.

Coz thats what awful means when you're 12.

I gotta stop reading this guff.

I agree Barcalona we're good before Inesta, messi and Xavi but while they were a passing team , never were they in the same way as they are now. What Liverpool need to do is play the passing way like we always have but mix it up a bit, have a plan B, plan C. I'm a season ticket holder and the amount of times we work the ball wide but have no one in the box or if we do are not an arial threat, so we then move the ball back where we started is unreal.
We all need to be patient and hopefully with a few signings and time BR will evolve the team to be less 1 dimensional.

Well there we have it.....Brenden has proved yet again he is not experienced enough, knowledgable capable enough, to run a club with the expectations of LFC.

He has reduced us to a struggling mid table laughing stock.

We are witnessing the living demise of a once great, big club that once had the respect of every club all over Europe. We are now being run by a bunch of Muppets.

I never thought I would see this in my lifetime, my great club who I have followed since the 70's home & away. I have never seen us play so poorly, so inept....the nearest I can relate to is when Souness took control.

I see posts about how well we play, pass etc etc.....these fans need to watch dvds of 70s,80s. We are poor, very poor. We have not progressed at any level.
Written with tears in my eyes.

Spot on....hoped I would never see a black time such as when Souness ripped the life out of the team.

But BR and his lemming followers have taken us back there

Compared to the champions league contenders we were in the previous few seasons...

Get a grip, this rot has been going in long before Rodgers was manager. The wasted money by Kenny and Comolli have set this club back about 5 years, not Rodgers.

I don't get your sniping about KD he had ten points more at this stage last season and won silverware plus runner up in another cup. What are you trying to compare? BR is responsible for the lowest points tally by new years day for thirty years. Jmac

26 Dec 2012 22:21:36
I have to be honest here, but I'm beginning to have slight doubts about Brendan Rodgers. No steel in the team, no plan B, not enough quality in the team, stop start results. I know its not his fault, he's a good man, and I would really like to see him succeed with LFC, he needs another 2 seasons at least before we can judge him fully. we are still a team in transition.

Gone are the days when we had a solid back four, we now leak goals on a regular basis.

Don't like saying this, but Reina needs to go, I think his heart isn't in it any more and hasn't been for a while now, lets be truthful, great player for us last 7.5 years but fresh blood is needed between the sticks.

We need quality players coming in, and the buy british policy over the last 18 months have not served us well in all honesty, we've had the money well over £100 million to spend, its not the owners fault, which is why I am not entirely over the moon about Sturridge signing for us, I hope he can start scoring for us as we cannot rely on Suarez alone. This is what grates me the most, the buy british that has seen the likes of Carroll, Downing, Henderson, Adam, Allen, now Sturridge for over £100m. Not writing these players off, but we could have got much better value if we scouted abroad (Michu at Swansea £2m anyone?), and Brendan Rodgers doesn't have the luxury of spending over £100m now over 2 transfer windows.

I am fully behind the team and back Brendan Rodgers but to play nice 4-3-3 pass and move football, we need to have more quality players coming through, which we don't have the money for yet. I think in next 2 seasons we will come good.

Rant over. Merry Christmas

26 Dec 2012 22:17:53
i am not going to call for anything because its not whats needed but the point is this is the lowest points tally after 19 games for any liverpool side since the 3 points for a win rule came in...

Facts are there for a reason just shows you how much the owners and fans are buying into brendans thing. point is who else would do it he is committed but is he really really the man is he experienced enough we will see but facts are there for a reason. we might have less points than last season though i believe we are a better team from then and certainly we will have a better second half to the season than we did last lets hope we get back to our good play against qpr because we have got arsenal man utd and man city away in next 3 away games afterwards...

We will be in a better position to judge Brendon after the Arsenal Man Utd and City games. This should show us the progress we have made in real terms....

Jury still out

Why arsenal, man city or utd to prove ourselves if we beat these teams then lose to so called lesser teams how does that prove anything?,if we beat top teams then we should be embarrassing so called lesser teams by bigger margins surely that should provide answers to which sired ruin we're heading!.

26 Dec 2012 22:04:49
The only shocking display today is all this whingeing, seriously its like little girls crying someone stole there Barbie doll. It would be criminal if BR is sacked, he need time and hes got my support unlike u muppets that are crying.

Barbie.

Get real Barbie. The demise of LFC is happening in front of you!

The demise of LFC a bit strong. We have been in a decline for a few years. Not BR's fault. We were poor today but BR needs time. I think he could be the man to take us back to the top, but not this season... Patience!

26 Dec 2012 22:03:45
Came up against a highly committed Stoke side today who were simply hungrier (and bigger, more physical) than us.

I'm 100% behind the team and happy to be patient for the Rodgers Revolution in style and tactics.

However, it's a fair question to ask: "What could have been different today that would have effected a different (positive) result?"

The conclusion I came to was 'keeper.

Reina (bless his cotton socks) just seems to have lost a bit of sharpness recently.

If you're a modern top flight 'keeper, you either need to be sharp, big, or preferably both, IMO.

Reina has always fallen into the former category; yes he's 6'2", but that's relatively small. By comparison, Stoke's Begovic is 6'6", give or take.

He just looks a little jaded, IMO.

Of course plan B is 'score more goals than the opposition'.

Everyone knows we're relying too much on Suarez as basically our sole effective attacking option, so yes, powers-that-be, let's fix this in January, please.

Just my two penn'orth.

Dr S. Atire.

26 Dec 2012 22:02:53
We lost fair and square. Lethargic display - our defending was poor, and we were void of ideas against their defence. Should have started with Hendo, and Gerrard needs a rest. Christmas hangover - get over it and push on. Singred

edds half way through the season wat u think yet agan terrible tatics and selection and didint eeven rectifi it with subs (jon jo still playing at full time ) i want to back him but when does a time come to say look come on this just aint right so ur thoughts pls edds wats ur halftime report cheers

mike {Ed052's Note - my thoughts are that people should stop saying we should sack the manager, get new owners, sell all the players etc etc. People should support throught thick and thin and stop being critical. Its helps no one and really doesn't help the team. We are slowly improving, and will continue to do so with new signings. We have great youngsters and have top class pros. Our manager is great and youn, and plays tge right way. We have supportive ans sensible owners. Everything would be rosy if fans actually started supporting}

But it aint geting better thats the prob even u could see jon jo should of come of at half time and even the stupidist person could see a back three would or worked better u no how we beat them last season oh yes even kenny realised that rogers is out of his depth and you cant keep surporting if the manager keeps making mistakes simple

mike {Ed052's Note - JS was our only other goalscoring threat. Thus he stayed on even tho he was awful}

Are only other scorer how many in the league not many and gerrard is 100 times better in that position sow hen u see hes playing a shocker put gerrard there and hendo in the middle see even i can work that out just face it were going backwards under rogers

mike

i said it before and say it again! Sell shelvy (horrible to day also) , downing, reina, cole, henderson, spearing and borini. we are horrible at the moment. we need a couple of persons like alonso, better and crative midtfield and two more good strikers and one of them a topplayer. if we dont do any change soon, we`ll never chasing top four, but still be in the midle or lower...

in: dzeko, alonso, ôzil, walcott, butland
we need atleast 4 new better players!
is any of these possible?

Bjørn {Ed052's Note - no}

26 Dec 2012 22:17:33
At least this result might help the ridiculous posters that criticise Joe Allen actually realise what he brings to the team. Composed, controlled possession that isn't given cheaply.
Also, I don't remember if it was something I read or saw, but I seem to remember BR stating that his teams work to win back possession within 7 seconds. There was only one team doing that today and it wasn't us. In fact, I can't any game where we have done that consistently.
Another thing, there are comments about DS not improving or changing that result. What about the fact that he might actually put away a chance or two that we create? Or the fact that he is a good outlet so the opposition can't push up as high and pressure our defence?

26 Dec 2012 22:15:04
I am not Brendan bashing here
But I am never seen a Liverpool team so ill-prepared and disorganised as the one today
No one knew who they were picking up, players running into each other over an over again
Suarez is getting too used to doing things in his own eg overdoing the dribbles / optimistic shots - starting to make himself look bad

Brendans red eyes in the post match interview said it all

Looked like he'd been crying his eye's out in the dressing room!

26 Dec 2012 22:14:59
I'm not sure how Shelvey gets a game....he's a Championship player at best!
When you're 3-1 down you don't need to bring on the likes of Henderson and Cole.
I'm starting to doubt Rodgers and his team of under-achieving backroom nobodies.
What really, really annoys me is we've got the remnants of Rafa's era to build on but Brendan "won nothing" Rogers continues to baffle in his decision-making.
I'm not too inspired by Sturridge and Ince either.
I expect responses like "we're only x-amount of points from 4th" etc. but the fact is we're a million miles from a crap Man.Utd.....a Man Utd we'd have slaughtered only a few years ago!
I welcome replies but I would add that I'm a Season-ticket holder of many, many years of watching Liverpool and I consider myself measured and fair in my opinions.
I think I'm entitled to say Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher have lost their impact and should only be on the bench at most.
I know some of you so-called fans will defend "Gerro" to the hilt but, fact is, we play better, more free football without him. I prefer Nuri Sahin. Gerrard can't even take a corner properly and the last time he scored a cracking goal was in black and white.
Football is expensive....to get rid of players isn't easy. Buying good players who accrue value is an art. We have failed miserably while lining the agents pockets over recent years.
On the plus-side we've got some excellent youngsters ....... Suso,Sterling,Wisdom,Kelly etc.

Spot on.

How long we accept this embarasing coach ?I want games to win ,not this tiki-taka nonsense. We are not Barcelona and EPL is not La Liga.Do you remember when Jose Mourinho came to Chelsea? He has never said that it will take time the reconstruction of the team because he's a winner not a coach came from a mid table team.In the first year he won the title and we are the joke of the world .the great players came after great coaches because they know that the results sure are coming faster than later. We sold Torres,Alonso,Mascherano and in return we buy who?We are Liverpool and we must buy not sell and if we must sell buy big in return not all the reject players from other teams.Manchester want RVP they buy,Chelsea want Torres they buy,Barcelona and Real Madrid the same.We are a small team? Now ,yes we are.We dont push for Huntellar who is a proven goal scorer in Holland,Italy,Spain,Germany and we pay double for Sturridge a Chelsea reject.Sorry for my english.
Mircea

Agree upto the point where you slate sturridge , give the kid at least a few games to see what happens ,he might well surprise you .

I only say we are pay double for a Chelsea reject. And do you think Sturridge is good enough for Liverpool who dont have players like Hazard,Mata et co to give the right passes for him to score goals?
Mircea

Who was chelseas top scorer last season in the league ?

Huntelaar...top scorer in Italy? Dream on poster.

I say proven goal scorer in Italy not top scorer .He scores 7 goals in 25 matches mostly as a sub. When he was in first 11 scores 42 goals in 73 appearances for Schalke and 76 goals in 92 games for Ajax no mention international career, for 6 mil pounds? We pay 100k per week to Cole we cant pay the same for Huntelaar?

And when was Sturridge top scorer at Chelsea they finish in wich position?A,in fifth.QED

It's not rugby lads. It's supposed to be a game of skill. I still can't belive the Stoke choppers still get away with it. Just look at Pulis...his answer to every problem is aggression. On the pitch, in the changing room his answer to everything is "be hard". That world doesnt really exist anymore and these dinosaurs have limited time left within the beautiful game.

Not great. Brendan got the team wrong. Playing suso and downing is like playing with 9 men.
The only thing lfc have going is the transfer window opens in a dew days. Get it wrong like in the summer and rodgers will be lucky to survive. That's my honest opinion .
None of his signing played tonite and he spent or some May say wasted 30m in the summer. better managers Have had less money and less time.
Bad results and u May find an excuse here and there. But bab performances and now becoming the norm.
Keep this up and Luis will be gone in the summer.
Its very very difficult to keep the.faith.
If we do beat qpr on Sunday and BR comes out that we've turned a corner I'll be in the sack him corner.

What do you people expect, that they were going to jump up and win the league right out of the gate! They are young and they are inconsistent, and they are still missing several pieces of the puzzle, give it time for god's sake.

Go learn some football, Rodgers is inept, he has no response or idea how to change his team or tactic.

So all these internationals we have playing have just turned to rubbish this season have they? No it's the system and the sooner you understand that then you may well not look like a plastic Manc.

As for the ED agreeing just shows how many lemmings would follow BR in to oblivion. BR has wasted £30m on very average players and yet you want to support him further and give him some more funds in January.

REAL fans want the best for OUR team....you must be a bluenose {Ed052's Note - so mate. Whats your magic solution then?}

We should of got rafa in the first place to late now but would still gte rid of this looser give roffodel spelling the reigns till end of season u dont play tennis if u have a hockey stick just like u dont play the barca way unless u have the right players

Well said ed, you have these muppets who come on and say sack the manager, sell downing, hendo, Enrique, riena etc. when there are no better available options out there.

You go find a manager who knows how to organise a team for a start

He's spent £32 mill and no one of his signings were anywhere to be seen Ed.

Hey ed, it's 'hear, hear' not 'here here'.

Don't let the web destroy language anymore than it already has!

Keep up the good work though, I agree with you ed, and with the OP.

Stoke were very good yesterday. Hats off to them. They deserved the 3 points.

Still glad am a Liverpool fan rather than stoke!! That is not football....I would be embarresed to even play that type of erm?? Well it's not football anyway.
Kp

They out played us in every department! They wanted it more! They would'nt let us have anytime on the ball they harried us that good! Liverpool were clumsy in defence and attack gave the ball away to much and had no creativity at all! Stoke deserved the win! I'm a staunch Red Kp but we got what we deserved! Nothing!

Maybe not but which team got the 3pts by hassling us and going forward with the ball not passing it around at the back rodgers out now before its to late

Stoke players fight every game to win..Our players don't...We're not good enough even for a Europa League place..

BR has got to go..

No progress whatsoever, 9 points behind where we were this time last season..

Just bring in a top manager and give him all the money he needs; don't worry about FFP we won't be back in europe for 3 years anyway {Ed052's Note - no progres in18 games. Thats to be expected surely}

Progress is expected or why sack daldlish wat a stuppied coment ed {Ed052's Note - we are progressing}

Less points shows other wise silly

Yes but backwards

You must be watching a different channel to me with the Uruguay Liverpool football club ED? I don't see any progress under BR

Impossible to rule out another loan signing at this stage. And we dont exactly whos leaving...

26 Dec 2012 21:53:43
Really disappointed after that one, I thought that after the penalty we really could've gone on to win that one. Suarez and Enrique can hold their heads up because they seemed the only players on the pitch who cared, suso was also decent in the first half. I'm never one to badmouth our team but every time our back four comes up against a forward line of physical forwards we can't live with them. We constantly gave sloppy passes and we moved the ball much too slowly. There just wasn't any leadership, at a few occasions in that match players were leaving it to each other as well. The positives are that in January we can strengthen p our team, also that suso, I felt put in a good shift against a very physical team and also that we got a penalty. Another positive is that the passing will never be that bad again. Hoping for us to bounce back against QPR.

26 Dec 2012 21:53:33
Thought we were very poor with no plan B against a team like Stoke. How Shelvey stayed on the field I will never know he gave the ball away so many times but still BR plays him. Roll on January and let's hope the right players come in !.

26 Dec 2012 21:53:22
Apart from the Aston Villa game we've been improving steadily throughout the season.......... Brendon Rodgers.

Another comment that makes him look out of his depth.

26 Dec 2012 21:53:05
this is the worst lfc team in some time. every area of the team is poor whereas in the past we were lacking in one area in the team. we have a defence that concedes too many, a midfield that isnt strong enough and we have forwards that cant finish to save thier lives.

26 Dec 2012 21:53:03
HAPPY BOXING DAY FROM STOKE! well i guess you can always talk about the 80s some more haha

There's an old saying "Better to have loved and lost then never loved at all" or "Better to have won something in the 80s than won hardly won anything at all'. You,nameless fan, will remember this match a lot longer than we will! I must admit, however, that Stoke City have won the Third Division North and the Football Alliance more times than we have as well as the Isle of Man Trophy (3 times) and the Bass Charity Vase (5 times). How on earth can we match anything like that?

26 Dec 2012 21:52:39
I always felt we are much more dangerous going forward when Johnson plays at left back & Enrique pushes forward. Johnson attacking threat is neutralized at right back & Enrique's attacking threat is neutralized at left back. Johnson needs to be playing in a position where he can cut in from the left flank on his right foot & have a shot. When played at right back he is cutting in on the left then turning back wide & crossing rather than shooting. As for Enrique, because of his physical strength he is better off playing further up & just trying to use his strength to burst through & he is good defensive cover cause he could drop back so Johnson doesn't get caught out while pushing forward. Wisdom can play at right back with Sterling right wing. slodge

26 Dec 2012 21:52:37
I'm trying to adjust to the idea of mid table mediocrity. The likes of Aston Villa and Stoke are too strong for us now.
How we've fallen!

26 Dec 2012 21:51:13
Disappointed with that performance. We were second to the ball all over the park, and easily muscled off the ball. We seem to struggle against Stoke nearly all the time. We have to start putting these games to bed, much too much passing in the middle third with no penetration. Oh well onward to the next game, you never know what may happen next following LFC. YNWA.

26 Dec 2012 21:50:52
Suarez can play for almost any team in the world but chooses us, which is good for us but not for him- advice is to leave if he wants any medals or trophies. It's painful seeing him put all that effort in

But sometime's his flick's and nutmeg's don't work! He should look to pass a bit more in and around the box!

26 Dec 2012 21:50:49

26 Dec 2012 21:49:53
the manager has to take the blame

anyone who has seen this guy on that rubbishe channel 5 vanity/commercial project who understands psychology would understand that he has lost the team...how can you have a camera crew in the dressing room and expect players and manager to talk to eachother honestly...shankly would be turning in his grave.... the days of understated excellence and letting your playing do the talking are clearly long gone

"i prefer to educate the players rather than coach them"
what a pretentious bell end {Ed052's Note - yes. Its BRs fault that we misse chances, defended poor, missed tackles and created little. Dont be stupid}

I've never seen someone sign off a post calling themselves that, don't be so harsh on yourself, its Christmas!

Alan Partridge

Ed - whilst he cant help us missing open goals, surely he hast take responsibility for lack of defensive co-cohesion and inability to control a game that is'nt all the players fault {Ed052's Note - its not his fault that players dong mark their players. Tonight individual mistakes were made. Nothing was BRs fault@}

To be fair ed the poster makes credible points. no 1 shelvey had a nightmare and played 90 mins. no 2 he actually waited till half time to make a sub.no 3 his full backs never got forwrd enough in that first half it looked like a manger that was in fear of who he was playing. he plays suso who barely makes a tackle, he subs the one man that will Lucas.
To be a succesful manager you need to change your style of play against certain opposition, he hasnt much to hide behind after that result and a striker is not going to fix that. {Ed052's Note - not his fault Shelvey was poor and that the wingbacks didn't get forward, they ate too much Turkey!!}

It is totally the managers job ed, he has to take responsibility for all of those things
don't tell me you haven't grimaced watching that programme aswell, it's like a car crash...this is not the liverpool way {Ed052's Note - he can't take responsibility for individual mistakes. They aren't his puppets}

If you think that's the managers job what the hell do we pay players for?

AndyKopLiverpool

If a player is poor ed do u not wheel his ass off is that a managerial decision or a players. {Ed001's Note - and who is going to replace them? We don't have any better ones, that is the issue.}

26 Dec 2012 21:47:16
Stoke deserved win tonight. My concern is Rogers not playing players to their strengths. Why on earth is Gerrard not playing as the furthest midfielder supporting Suarez?
Shelvey should of been benched & we should of started with Lucas & Hendo sitting with SG pushing on.

Gav the Red

PS - I'm not judging Rogers until 2nd half of season. If after transfers we perform no different then we may have to consider our options in the summer.

26 Dec 2012 21:47:13
Enough is enough. What worries me more than anything is our scouting system. BR seems to be buying players he knows or has worked with before. Also is just me or do some players seem to have gone backwards this season? (Sterling we will never know about because he did not play properly under previous managers) I would give him till May, after he gets his strikers in and if it is still like this (no passion, no tempo, no diversity) give Rodolfo the job (I know he has not managed first team but the promotional system seems to work well in Europe and reaped us glories in previous years) at least he knows when to kick his players up the a**e!

26 Dec 2012 21:46:52
how many times this season have all us fans come on here & said its not all doom & gloom,&look at the positives im getting sick off us being so inconsistant,we just need to forget top four &just concetrate on trying to to finish better than last season its not looking good ,stoke destroyed us tonight made us look really average,if we,d pass up front the way we do at the back we,d be better off,,

just enough education to perform

26 Dec 2012 21:46:37
Brendan, Please please please get rid of Reina - he is useless and is ruining our chances of getting anywhere in the league. As usual rooted to the spot for the first 2 goals, not capable of coming off his line for anything. Oh for a young Ray Clemence.

26 Dec 2012 21:46:35
I love liverpool and i will always support my team, but it has to be said! We are sh*t. We are so inconsistant. I was at anfield for the fulham match, and we were excellent. We need to have different tactics for different teams. We cannot play the same way against every team and just hope we get the right result.
If we want to play in the style we are trying to play at we need the players who are capable of playing in that way.

Red Lee

26 Dec 2012 21:46:34
What's your plan B, Mr Rodgers. Another display of 'gross' inexperience. How long do we need to endure this tactically limited manager.

26 Dec 2012 22:14:39
I would like to know what your plan B would be ? I sincerely hope you're not going to mention long balls and Carroll's name !

27 Dec 2012 00:41:04
well said mate his style of football wasnt working so u have to adapt you're game to over come these obsticles and rodgers has one way of thinking and it isnt good enough a lot of very disapointed liverpool fans today.

Most teams have a 'plan' when playing Stoke, but not BR, he just wants to play the 'same style' all the time. His inability to 'formulate' a strong game plan is most troubling indeed, as it speaks of arrogance, lack of tactical ability, lack of vision, and inflexibility/stubborness. We need a manager who can manage, not a stubborn pig heade fool. Please leave now BR you are not worthy of LFC.

26 Dec 2012 21:46:11
Will always give the Manager time and still will but and it's a big but Brendan Rodgers got out thought tactically by Tony Pullis even with a one goal start... WTF!. To keep trying to pass it round the back 4 and goalkeeper with Stoke pressing high up the field proved to be suicidal. We don't have the ability of Barcelona? So wise up Brendan!
Don't want to say any more. We'll just have to be good supporters and wait and see?

26 Dec 2012 21:43:30
well......
we need to look at being able to change our style of play were very much one dimensional.

thinking we need more than just a striker.. a strong defender in the middle like Williams? need midfield to sit in the hole? snider (spelling) hearing 10 million. if he will lower his wages demands then he would fit the bill. our midfield is very weak.

lets hope something will happen. we were completely out gunned today and out foxed.

26 Dec 2012 21:43:22
Thought that we should've played 3-5-2 today and most definatley with Coates starting, agger and Skrtel were second to Jones at every leap. Jonjo was woeful and we had nothing to shout about cept the Suarez show. Strurridge isn't going to come in and magically solve all our problems but he is very needed goal threat and could thrive here. We knew what they were going to do but thanks to a mixture of poor tactics, a slip and that two bit player Walters having a blinder (seriously, hate stoke players with a passion, well not crouchy)

Hindsight 20-20, support the team, should've would've could've bla bla bla, one game at a time. We need serious improvement.

Second best to stoke all match who chased everything down
Agger and Skrtl used to be one of the best centre back pairings I can't believe Boths form is so bad. Reina is five years past his best and Shelvey isn't fit to wear the shirt why he wasn't substituted god only knows
Which being this Liverpool fan of forty years to the conclusion these performances are down to the system and the manager who at times is clueless and has no plan B
The big signing we need in January isn't a striker but a decent bloody manager
with a winning track record
Mid table mediocrity is all we' ll ever get from Rogers

26 Dec 2012 21:42:43
Have to say I was very impressed with Stoke today. They closed us down quickly from start to finish and they deserved the win. Thought Shelvey has a poor game and Sterling had little impact after coming on. Suarez, Gerrard and Enrique chased everything for us today and were easily our best players. We shouldn't get to down hearted after this loss, don't think many sides could've beaten Stoke today. Should get a win at QPR next week

26 Dec 2012 21:42:30
We were genuinely outplayed this evening, not outmuscled we did well in that respect, but Stoke played some good wide stuff through Etherington and Kightly with Nzonzi Whelan and Walters playing well down the centre. Was Gerrard hungover today? What a waste of space he was, bags under his eyes the size of the Mersey, his lack of interest exemplified by the incident where the ball hit him in the back.

poor Liverpool...other than Suarez and Enriquez nobody was determined enough. we can beat Fulham all day but we can't beat the top teams and Stoke are a better team than we are. FSG wake up before it's too late and invest in some quality players.

26 Dec 2012 21:41:21
Based on tonight's game, we have an awfully long way to go before we can consider ourselves a top EPL team again (some shocking decision making tonight, the team just is not gelling atm) patience is a virtue though and we should all remain positive!

No pelters please but hats off to Stoke tonight. That's the sort of desire that wins football games.

26 Dec 2012 21:40:15
we scored in the first minute then for the remainder of the game forgot how to play football let alone put 2 decent passes together. only saurez appeared to play for the jersey. half the team should never wear the jersy again utter crap. At least we've got Sturridge to save the day coming nxt wk! Roll on 2013!

26 Dec 2012 21:44:54
90 - Four minutes of injury time to be added... but as Suarez drags 10 yards wide of goal, Liverpool look like they could play for another four years and not score again. Harsh maybe, but it sounded good...

How we have fallen, embarrassing again! No heart, no commitment. Couldn't be arsed it looked like again! Fulham were awful, we made villa look good, west ham we were lucky..... Here comes the dont support us then! Don't care I don't fancy watching championship football next year. Rodgers has ruined us, at least with kenny we looked like we may score once in a while

26 Dec 2012 21:41:01
Please, please, please wake up....Rodgers doesn't have a clue and this is shown up when we play a manager with an ounce of tactical knowledge.
If any of you had the slightest insight or knowledge of football you would see this too.

Cue the give him time it's a new tactic....rubbish, it's down to the intelligence of the manager to work a tactic to the strengths of the current team not to impose a poor system. Lets look at how quick Rafa has got Chelsea winning.

I can't wait to see the back of BR and if the board have sense they will try to poach frank de boer

Pulis, tactical knowledge ? ammm no.
derryred

Its not the manager its the average over hyped players whove finished mid table under 3 diff managers now

Cue the people who think they know everything about football and the BR out brigade . What is the next step if FSG do sack BR then tell us all you seem too know more than most .

You sir, are an person.

I began typing out a long reply to this message, but stopped after realising it really wasn't worth the effort.

Please go support another club, you fool.

maka

And if he doesn't work after a few months then another manager... and another... and another.

Why don't you go and support Forest or Chelsea.

You are an person! Give a manager Oscar, mata, Torres, Hazard etc. and you don't think they would win games.

When you have a team that's almost exclusively full of superstars, then you're doing something wrong if you aren't winning. Our squad just doesn't compare to the squad Rafa is currently managing so the link is kind of stupid and unnecessary.

ChrisMiz

Agree wholeheartedly a few years ago we were signing players Chelsea were itching to sign ie Torres mascherano alonso now we're chasing desperately after their reserves or playing their cast offs ie cole and sturridge
Rogers out

We have a team of internationals and exceptional young talent....I wonder what's changed that they don't seem to function as a team?

I figure from a lot of the responses that a lot of our players are now useless and need to be shifted so we can bring in some more players that aren't good enough to get in their current club first team....that makes sense

I don't want to see a wholesale change of team or a revolving door of managers but we need to at least find a manager who has some knowledge and has a winning mentality, hence my thought of frank de boer. He has lived and breathed the Barcelona and Ajax style, understands youth development and the British game. Sadly I can't say that BR has any idea of these apart from watching and working for other managers that have

We can keep BR and continue to be mid table for the next few years but inevitably the board and fans will want more, and he will eventually have to go. YOU mr true fan can except it now or later but we certainly won't be improving under him

26 Dec 2012 21:37:38
i think the liverpool players...need to stop making statements online like...oh yes we are gonna take 3 points off stoke...or we are gona do this or that!

fact...when lfc are supposed to win a game..they never step up and actually make that happen.

so please stop wasting yours and the fans time posting crap online..

secondly......we will get wins here and then.........but until we spend atleast a minimum 50 mill.....on quality proven players THROUGHOUT the team in different positions.......we aint gona do absolutely nothing in this league.

the simple fact is.......our game plan...is not good enough to beat teams like stoke...their game plan..with the players they have..is more dominant..thats the reality of it

so we should never even remotely expect to win there.

id rather brendan make us hard to beat...instead of trying to play this open free football..when he already knows we dont have the players to make it work

its ridiculous..and we will continue to get hammered

i mean.villa beat us so easy...yet get smashed 12 goals in 2 games...

im worried

Sorry mate but you cant put BR in that bracket . I think Liverpool have been going backwards since we came 2nd in the league . We had the chance at the beginning of last season when we spent £100 on players that were not up to standard . IMO if BR is given the time and money to spend he will get it right . Actually when you look back souness was the man who really started the rot .
YNWA
Jamesy

So you don't blame Hicks and Gillett?

26 Dec 2012 21:36:33
if BR thinks sturridge will make a big difference, werner and henry need to appoint someone above him.
we need a midfielder in the mold off sneijder some pure quality and a striker in the box.
sturridge is downings replacement thats all.problem will remain

Replace a winger with a striker? Logical!

Sturridge is not a solution to our current problem

26 Dec 2012 21:36:32
I've been supportive of BR but I just don't know what system or formation he's trying to create. What's worse I'm not convinced he knows
I feel like saying this is going to sound like I'm over reacting and not having faith but I'm starting to get very worried

Chris in Tamworth

You are spot on....we seem to have no idea of how we are meant to play

For the first time, I'm also worried Chris. Anyhow, I'm willing to see what happens after January to see where we are. Although I am far from convinced about Sturridge, I must say.

Ash

My criticisms of him today would be that he didn't play jones in goal, he is much better under the high ball, and that we didn't go 5 at the back with coates slotting into cb, also bringing on cole I don't get what he see's in him.
derryred

Chris, I think rodger's inexperience is showing in so many areas whether it be formation, comments, transfers. This is heading for a fall!

26 Dec 2012 21:36:07
Too many overated player which need to be replaced this set of players will end up mid table flr the 4th season running

Especially these players need to be replaced

Reina
Skrtel
Gerrard
Downing
Shelvey

Basically the whole team apart from new youngsters

Get rid and start again

26 Dec 2012 21:35:30
Can't blame BR. His team is crap. Defense is hapless. Glad we got to see the real Downing. Was the game against Fulham real? Feels like a dream

Its because Fulham are a S**** team, thats why he played good.

I thought downing was okay when he was getting service.

26 Dec 2012 21:34:53
Why the funk take suso off and leave jonjo on. He had no influence on the game whatsoever and suso was doin ok.
We were sh**e
FowlerisGod

Suspect BR was thinking who can score goals....he rates Shelvey as a player who can score goals.

26 Dec 2012 21:53:04
Another totally and utterly woeful display. Never mind diva Sturrige, we need a defence. Has Gerrard had work done on his right eyebrow? He should concentrate more in his role as captain.

That's Botox for you - 100% sure, same thing happens when the Mrs has it done!

26 Dec 2012 21:33:41
riena goodbye.Rodgers if u are prepeared to stand there and watch that rubbishE you to can f.off to.the tikataka style aint working you are holding on to the ball that long other teams read it like a nursery book.we give chances to easily to players and managers hoping they will get it right.AS a true fan like it or not am fed up with burdens put upon us. we aint good enough to win the championship never mind the prem.fed up peed off had enough so please FSG sort the ****ers out

Not a true fan with a knee-jerk post like that. You'd have been demanding Shankley to be sacked in his first season.

What you blaming Reina for? Team cant defend can't score. Don't defend as a team and don't attack as a team, no consistency from any of the players week in week out. Get caught in midfield no tracking back, No tactics bad team selection? Nearly every game we have more shots on goal and still can't score the opposition have a few and score. So blame BR. {Ed052's Note - erm, you've said ghe team can't score so why blame BR}

Wake up! brendan rodgers is not bill shankly

Because Br sets the team plans and tactics , picks the team, gets rid of players buys average players should i continue? {Ed052's Note - he does pick the team. Nothing wrong with the team tonight. It should have won. Tactics are always the same and individual mistakes were made. He sold players who wanted to go and has brought in 3 good and improving youngsters}

Because Ed052 he's the manager/coach he tell's them the tactic's to use! see's them every day in training! know's their positive's and weakness! should work on their weakness and train them to put the ball in the back of the net! but it seem's like it's been lost in translation!

26 Dec 2012 21:33:39
I really and honestly hope for sake of their carrers the following players leave , they deserve medals and were never gonna give them .
Suarez
Agger
Suso
Skrtel

I honestly think that these individuals could do better else where , im just sorry that its too late for Gerrard . Im a true LFC supporter but i think these guys should leave , were never gonna give em what they deserve , it really sadens me to see suarez play his socks off . And i hope sturridge changes his mind after this game

Gutted. Really want to see some of our players with the medals they deserve. Hopefully we will get there. WIN, lose or draw, YNWA.

Why Agger and Skrtel have we not conceded 6 soft goals in games against Villa and Stoke?

Surely you only 'deserve' to win a medal once you've 'actually won' one?

davethebutcher

26 Dec 2012 21:49:38
Just f%*k off you moaning t!#t we don't need people like you supporting LFC. Yes it was an awful display but we want our team to grow, how on earth can you want our beat players to leave? You're a supporter and yet you care more for the individuals than the team? What is happening to us supporters hey?

So instead of wanting some of our most influential players to stay and help us in this current scenario you'd rather them leave so we can accept mediocrity? These are the players we NEED, and dont make it sound like playing at Liverpool is bad for them. They have a job to do, and its their duty to fulfill it.

90 mins of pain, merry christmas. Men vs boys today..

Frustrated red...

26 Dec 2012 21:33:04
Absolute rubbish by us. One step forward one step back. Stoke far better side than us in all departments.

Not good enough anymore IMO.

Mid table manager, mid table side, mid table owners.

You forgot mid table players..

We just got smashed by stoke better all over the pitch. starting to get very concerned now.

26 Dec 2012 21:31:57
Our defence is shocking agger cant defend & rodgers thinks hes the best cb in the world what a joke

26 Dec 2012 21:31:33
I'm afraid we have too many players who are average or below average, nothing is going to change until this is sorted out.

It isn't the players it's the system they are forced to play. Iv'e said this from the start of the season Tika Taka, works in Spain because all styles are similar and the team with the best players will always win trophies. In the prem there is a lot of different styles and you have to adapt according to the opposition, Tika Taka don't allow you to do that, you cant change formation or tactics very easy.

26 Dec 2012 21:31:26
Might have to call a spade a spade lads. I've bought into the BR philosophy, I like the percentages it brings in most areas of the pitch.

But, we can't keep conceding so much on the counter, even against non-creative sides. So impotent against poor defensives.

We can't keep having no plan B (or even an alternative plan A).

BR I want you to succeed but admit what you have and put it to the best use you can, you can't make them Brazil '70.

26 Dec 2012 21:31:26
in all the years i have never seen a weaker team than this plenty of skill but no strength lack of conviction god help us

You didn't see Souness' teams then.

We are full of kids! We are building... We will be back but it will take two or three years... Can we still contend for top 4 this year? Yes but we won't get it because kids are not consistent.

26 Dec 2012 21:30:55
Thanks for the win against Fulham. Made my Christmas. Must have been magic, because same ole Pool played today.

26 Dec 2012 21:30:48
These players should be ashamed of themselves, they have let the manager and supporters down with their pathetic performances. I can see this shower of overpaid clowns getting Brendan Rodgers sacked.

Stevie.

Sorry Stevie, BR gets himself sacked for deploying that shower as he keeps doing whilst hyping ambitions.

Still think he's the best manager to take us forwards but he may need to compromise a few of his beliefs.

Maybe they want him sacked?

Fair point mate... Fair point...

Stevie.

26 Dec 2012 21:30:19
loiverpool have been sub-par tonight, when they learn t play well more consistently then we will win more games. its like the players gel one match then the next match its like they dont know who each other are. its baffling and frustrating at the same time.aaaaaaaargh!

Not a rumour, more of an observation. Any one else notice Zaf Iqbal (1st team doctor) wasn't present at the match tonight? Has he left or was there a potential medical scheduled for today at Melwood, keeping him back?

26 Dec 2012 21:48:32
1st thing i noticed too!

Yeah I noticed that as well, if there is any match to bring your doctor it is stoke city away. I'm hoping your right about the medical.

I'm sorry lads you can all disagree with me all you want I have been a believer and got behind out team haven't moaned until today but this is a joke now.

BR must go past managers have done a better job and had the sack.

We can all see this is not working the system does not work, Team selection is beyond a joke.

1) Suarez cant play up top by himself. we are without doubt going to lose him. He needs someone to play next to him or he needs to play of someone.

2) Jonjo Shelvey is a complete joke of a football player. Number 10 in the whole? are you having a laugh. he would never have got a sniff in a Benitez team

3) Our transfer policy is a joke, we spent half our time chasing a player to get on loan and doesn't even play. Where we should have spent a few extra million and got the players we needed.

4) the players we did buy haven't had a sniff in the EPL, but instead we will plays who dont have a future at the club.

5) 19 games into the season and BR doesn't know his strongest 11. I am all for giving players a chance and opportunity to prove themself but 19 game in and we are still playing Downing, Cole etc.

6) Our 35 Million pound plan B is away on loan who would have been perfect for this game. (Suso, Suarez are never going to win a header)

7) I said it at the start of the season our players don't look as fit as they used to.

8) Being Liverpool TV program was and is a distraction to the players, the club and didn't do BR any faviours. you wouldn't see the likes of Madrid, Barca, Man u doing anything like that.

I could go on all day but i am going to stop now.

This may or may not get posted but I would love to see the views of the fans.

What manager woud want to come to us?

Not a quality one that's for sure.

Jonjo will be a class player.

our wing backs push to far forward and cannot get back, that is our problem.

1) your right thats why sturridge has been bought.
2)jonjo is young, like all players they have bed games. this is one of them, he is not a bad player at all, in fact he is quite good.
3)there may be a very good reason why brendan doesnt play sahin. nor you or i know that reason but we must trust our manager to do the right thing.
4)allen has played most of the games in all compititions this year son far, borini is injured, sahin who knows. BR has brought through some youth players as well and downing has had a few good games recently. hendo is a class player anyway so the only one i think isnt good enough for liverpool is cole.
5)our squad is small and the season long, players need rest or the they burnout. its as simple as that.
6)as much as you may be right he doesn't seem to fit in with BR's style, hence he went out on loan. he might have injured for this match had he stayed with us anyway.
7)sme of the players look jaded yes but some just don't seemed to be interested or are not in form at the moment.
8)that program was filmed months ago and is not an excuse for you to use or the players to use as to why they are not performing at the moment. it was also not meant toi do BR any favours it was basically a massive advertsiment to show liverpool fc off to the world.
huddz red

Sorry but we need to give B.R a chance he is doing the best he can with the crap that kenny got and has the guts to give the kids a chance and they have been our best payers this season along with suarez the man as got to sort out kennys mess with limited funds

Agree with no.1 in the sense that suarez at times seems to be doing it by himself. diasagree with 2 but I do concede shelve does need to work on his general technique (contral, shotting etc.)
I disagree with 3 and 4 as Rodgers was only in the door at that stage, i'm hoping for another 2 active windows.
I also disagree with 5 as rotation happens. disagree with 6, we were poor against stoke when we had carroll, it isn't Rodgers fault he was signed and he isn't great anyway. Our p[layers certainly look at times half a**ed and I don't think the being Liverpool documentary can be blamed for our defeat tonight, although it couldn't have been ideal.

26 Dec 2012 21:28:57
Liverpool toothless. No fight. Need to replace Gerrard, Reins, Ager, Shelvey, Cole, Downing....

26 Dec 2012 21:27:51
can anyone explain what we as a club are trying to achieve on the pitch other than a mid table finish? We have been outplayed by a number of average teams this year and our own team seems to be poorly organised and have little structure. BR's philosophy of pass the ball seems to pretty non existent, my preference for a philosophy would incorporate:
hard to score again/difficult to beat
win at home
good pass completion rate
press the ball when we lose it

Currently we have none of the above and some of our performances have been incredibly poor.

Fans will always back a manager but they have to give you some confidence they are moving the club forward and have a plan.

26 Dec 2012 21:27:31
Hope 2013 is truly a different year. We need to forget that 2012 ever happened. Today epitomized our entire year: weak, slow and no options. Well done to Stoke. Boys against men today.

26 Dec 2012 21:26:09
gutted watching this, gerrard really has lost his class... too slow for this type of game. When it's slow and we have time on the ball then he should play but when the game is up and down the pitch we need fresher legs and more energy in midfield. More drive. Need a physical presence in midfield brought in during January, too many small and weak midfielders

Stevie G, has nothing left to give. He's lost soo much in the last 2 years (pace, influence, drive, and shooting ability).

You and a lot of other are saying that but Buck want's to give him a new deal!

26 Dec 2012 21:25:30

Call a spade a spade, half way through the season and we have 25 points. Absolute piss poor! To add insult to injury, we just made Walters look like Falcao. Sturridge and Ince can add no value if GK and defence can't be sorted out. Consistently inconsistent. Consistently outperformed when it matters.

This is so painfull to watch tonight the team seem to have all been on benders haha, stoke are doing what they do best and are hard to beat at home so we had to have been extra hard in pressing but we look uninterested in the game, like I've said in other post we need a enforcer in midfield cheers pk

What a bad day at the office today has been, just never looked comfortable all game, we look scared all game n never deserved anything at all .... Reina looked nervous, Skrtel n agger scared stiff, midfield done nothing n as for Shelvy well the less I say about him the better

Liverpool's season ended when Mr Rodgers was named Liverpool manager.Like it or not the fact he spent 10 million on Borini and his how how many premiership goals?? 16 million on midfielder powerhouse Joe Allen?? yeah right. So you so called persons who back Brenden keep it up as soon he will waste another 15 million plus on dross who will clog up our terrible squad. Check the league table out! we are where we belong!

Marc

I agree. How come teams like Porto, At Madrid, Benfica can always find great signings that play well from day one. I read it on here before we have an extensive scouting network. Maybe looking in the premier league at british players isn't working.

Just where swansea ended up, mid table.

My source (hp) told me around the dinner table today BR is looking to sign stokes starting 11 from tonight's game as he thinks we'll finish higher in the league. Also I looks like messi may be signing as his Trophy cabinet is now full

Suarez is to be sent to finishing school

Were not good enough its that simple. We are a mid table club with a wage bill of that of a top 4 club.
Our defence has not got a general type organiser, our midfield cant score and also needs a haman style player.
We cant look at the fixtures and say thats a win.
Teams with lesser squads are doing far better yet who can we blame?..
I love this club and it hurts when we are laughed at and excuse after excuse we tell our selfs. Maybe the players arnt as good as we hope and maybe a drastic clearout needs to happen but i certainly dont see sturradge or tince making us better.

Realism for mikey Lyndon and co but you ll be lashed for hurting the dreamers

Detest Stoke and their awful style the block on Reina for second wouldn't be allowed in Europe however why after taking the lead didn't we concentrate and calm it for ten minutes? Same with second half we can talk about Sturbridge and nice but we need leaders and know how as well were far too gullible

Honestly getting pissed off with rubbish season after rubbish season, I like Rodgers but is he going to get us up the top. Here's a question, when Chelsea or city or Man U are going to go for a new manager, realistically are they going to be interviewing the likes of Martinez and Rodgers. We need proven winning managers.

im sorry im not usually this way..but im sick of watching liverpool now...we are just so easy to play against

we do the same crap all the time..pass a million times at the back...invite pressure..then cause our own problems

if these stupid owners do not start paying up...then i fully blame that damn chelsea supporter who accepted fsg stupid bid........when they rejected the psg owners

tired of the rubbish i see every damn week..

1 step forward and 2 back...we are not hard to break down...we dont have anything solid at all

red bloody lobster!!!

We're predictable! Every team know what we're going to do! pass sideward's backward's and mess about with the ball around our penalty area! That tonight was terrible! These fan's screaming for Reina's head i really think he want's out anyway! And to tell ya the truth i don't blame if he do'es!

26 Dec 2012 20:54:20
Take it back.....Walters is better than Messi when he plays liverpool. Against anyone else he is garbage

26 Dec 2012 20:54:03
Hi ed, this is really out of my mind, suso was good in the 1st half why is he been substituted, for me its was shelvey who should have been replace, hope it pay off.

26 Dec 2012 20:53:47
We have decent defenders yet we defend so poorly.
Very soon BR is going to be in bother

Chris in Tamworth

26 Dec 2012 20:53:29
Get Reina out of my team. NOW.

26 Dec 2012 20:53:13
Hi , this is especially for the Eds , pls pls give me ur opinion on this im completely lost .
1) why is Suso off instead of Shelvey ?

2) Is it me or does it frustrate suarez each time he tries to play the 1,2 with shelvey and he doesnt follow through ?
Id be happy with a response from fellow reds too .
And its 3-1 ........... Sad
its going to 4.

I still say its a game for Henderson ....

Ciah
South Africa.

I agree suarez thinks too quickly for the teammates. We moved possession much too slowly, I thought it was a game for jones coates and hendo. I was shocked to see suso replaced I thought he was playing well, I was actually hoping shelvey would be replaced. I also thought downing did okay.

26 Dec 2012 20:53:20
I paid 65 quid to watch this crap...

26 Dec 2012 20:52:34
I think Agger and Skrtel had too much sherry trifle yesterday!

26 Dec 2012 20:52:21
Just one of the main reasons I hate rodgers..he makes really dumb substitutions like his mind has been made up before the game is even played..what has shelvey done on this pitch that suso hasn't done better..

The fact you used hate says it all.
derryred

26 Dec 2012 20:50:57
Why is it you just know liverpool were going to get beat today u get a little excited u know whats coming next we are so predictable. U just new it its crazy. Most inconsistent team ever. U just new it our main problem is ourselfs

26 Dec 2012 20:50:37
Suso off, Shevley still on?? What does the manager see that we don't?

Shevley has been list tonight in his position.

Stupid IMO.

Have to say Stoke look a good side, they look like they have more goals in them.

26 Dec 2012 20:48:59
Suso was probably along with Suarez the only player that looked like he could open stoke off... Why take him off?

26 Dec 2012 20:48:34
Suso off - while Shelvey stays on.

If ever there was evidence that Rodgers is not up to it, this is it.

In 2 years time we'll be looking for yet another Manager, while Rafa is totting up the trophies at Chelsea.

redmersey

26 Dec 2012 20:47:25
What does suso do? Don't tell me he is more of a treat then Carroll . If that's BR type of player there is no hope.

Say that in 5 seasons
derryred

26 Dec 2012 20:46:37
I was surprised to see a comment that BR not looking for an attacking midfielder. That is one position we need to fill while Shelvey learns his game. Someone like Snejder would be perfect. What do Eds think? THE RED ONE

26 Dec 2012 20:44:55
Think they have all had a bit too much sherry in their xmas trifle, don't you?

Red Lee

26 Dec 2012 20:44:29
gain possession....play 97 passes around midfield and defence....wait for opposition to regain formation....attack where the opposition has most of their players...lose possession...put your hands on hips...hope they miss...then repeat!

JOZLFC

....but that almost sounds like a strategy.....and I can't see any signs of that!

Or give the ball to jonjo and lose possession

26 Dec 2012 20:43:24
we need to man up a bit,all this talk of rugby players and tall this and tall that, lets start bursting a gut for the jersey,if we dont win tonight we fall back into mid table again.....maybe where this team belongs,it pains me to say.
dissappointed red

They are frightened of them

They are busting a gut, but they are up against a pub team of thugs.
ND

It pisses me off that stoke are allowed to get away with man handling opposition all the time, i understand it happens with corners or free kicks but they do it all game and get away with it. it would be funny if the person who puts their shirts out put proper rugby shirts out with a note saying try this game your more suited to it.

26 Dec 2012 20:43:07
I dont think its all doom and gloom.

Stoke are playing well (in their style) pressing the play to the point where we are making some unforced errors.

Last week Fulham didnt turn up and we were alllowed to pass the ball and the same team looked much better.

The stokes defence doesnt look great, and we have already broken it a few times, and should do it again 2nd half.

Think were going to either draw or win this one - come on the reds :)

Do you still believe in Father Christmas mate?

redmersey

Painfully awful play. can not take it anymore. just being dominated by crap teams such as stoke west brom and aston villa there is no way we should let in 3 goals per match.

A Sunday league team could make us force errors, no composure at all, stoke are not playing well, we are playing shocking!

JOZLFC

Well done mystic meg! Not

26 Dec 2012 20:43:01
Let's watch the kopites roar back in the second half. Come on redmen.

Mighty reds

Not in our dna

Thats very true, but its in uniteds DNA

26 Dec 2012 20:42:53
Suso not a winger. Need speed, and Sterling has it. Put him on now! Also, Shelvey playing poor. Allen or Hendo asap

26 Dec 2012 20:42:16
Get behind the team lads, this was always going to be tough fixture for us Stoke don't lose to many points at home.

A slip handed there first goal but I am confident we will get back into this game, c'mon you reds YNWA.

26 Dec 2012 21:00:07
Still think we can come back? What a joke players don't look like they want it!

Deanalfie

3-1 to that crap, i think BR is on thin ice now.

26 Dec 2012 20:41:50
Hendo for Shelvey. Sterling for Suso. We can still pull this one out.

Coop

26 Dec 2012 20:40:51
Hi Eds...

I am so bored of criticizing Liverpool now it's getting boring...so i'm gonna change my tune...i'm, gonna watch Liverpool win lose or draw and so nothing...after all do Liverpool's players really care as much as fan's do???

WhyamImrsparkle

Agree I don't think they do! 0h for a sourness case thommo

26 Dec 2012 20:40:33
Dr evil shelvy & suso are useless how many more chances is shelvey going to have playing in the hole he gives us nothing ls playing his heart as but know support as normal bring sterling & allen push sg behind ls

26 Dec 2012 20:40:27
Unbelievable start nd we lost way..shelvey is not having good game and suso too isolated..I would bring henderson for shelvey nd sahin for suso nd push gerrad forward nd downing on right wing...im sure we can do it tonight..

Harry Oldbury

Sahin not on bench

26 Dec 2012 20:37:42
I'm not going to call for the managers head ....what will it change? after all it will be the same players. Stoke are the worst footballing team i have ever seen but they still win.Liverpool are on par with Stoke like it or not after tonight if we lose they have taken 4 points from us if we win great but the faults are still there...we cannot defend a lead!!! so let's give Brenden our backing and sturridge will fire u to 10th.

WhyamImrsparkle

26 Dec 2012 20:37:10
Sterling must come on for Shelvey

26 Dec 2012 20:36:46
Wasn't expecting a win today. But when you score and conceed two under 7mins.then we need just more than two players. He should have gone with 3 centerbacks

26 Dec 2012 20:35:32
Half time - it should be shelvey off and sterling on. suso moved central with sterling out wide.
Puzzled Red

How does Shelvey get a game at this level?

redmersey

Or bring JonJo back into centre mid and push Stevie G up

Correct but he plays the obvious suso fir sterling. For me suso is looking ok. Shelvey worse.

26 Dec 2012 20:34:39
Never mind signing strikers, what about getting some decent defenders?

26 Dec 2012 20:46:45
After the occasional bad game? We have one of the top three defences in the league! Behave!

26 Dec 2012 20:33:02
Can someone please explain to me how Jonjo Shelvey keeps starting for us? It's getting ridiculous, he is the worst player I have seen play in a red shirt in a long time

He's not having the greatest game tonight, but overall he has developed well this season.

Its these types of games that we need to see him take a half chance, or make that final pass.

26 Dec 2012 20:48:40
That's a ridiculous statement to make! He's not playing well today, but it takes more than one player to lose a game

26 Dec 2012 20:28:49
where is Sahin ? shelvy looks lost in the match.

hhh

Why the hell would Liverpool play a lowly Bundesliga player of the year in our amazing starting eleven?

If seasoned regulars can't handle stoke neither can Sabin the lightweight

26 Dec 2012 20:28:40
Suarez has to stop going for the nutmeg.. When it comes off its a touch of class but they know its coming.. So maybe if he goes around them they might be wrong footed and he'll get past them easier.. Did anyone else notice this?

26 Dec 2012 20:23:13
Jonjo is having a nuke... He better warm up your coming of

26 Dec 2012 20:23:06
Hey Ed's, missed the first 10 minutes of the game, did any of you guys see the incident for the peno and if so should it have been a peno?
Cheers.

26 Dec 2012 20:21:12
Shelvey poor so far

I agree. He's like a juggernaut. When a ball passes by near to him, he can't turn or change direction to challenge for it.

Who is disagreeing to this statement. Is that you again Mrs Shelvey ?

26 Dec 2012 20:18:03
I am sorry but for all you jonjo lovers out there he is not good enough. He is slow and ponderous and wasteful. In 2 years time bottom premiership or championship side at best.

26 Dec 2012 20:16:54
argghhh why are we arse when we need consistency, bloody headless chickens at times. I just wish we would not think that we are world beaters after one decent result. very poor today

26 Dec 2012 20:40:57
I agree mate, the team need a massive kick up the ass, winning the previous game doesn't seem to give us confidence, it makes us cocky...Suso pulling off some killer passes and Gerrard looking lively. Defense look uncomfortable, even Enrique is being bossed around. Shelvey and Suarez being wasteful! COME ON LADS!

It just winds me up mate, I love lfc but how can us fans see what's needed but BR can't? IHe has my full support but bloody hell get a grip on those players and give them a bloody good ticking off. Can you imagine SAF putting up with it? Average at best

Big Al

26 Dec 2012 20:16:46
Players touches have to improve.. thats a few chances we've had now that the players touch has let them down.

26 Dec 2012 20:12:44
Why do we always make Walters look like Messi?

26 Dec 2012 20:12:19
this is very upseting , the defence is as shaky as grandmas left knee , BR keeps playing shelvey upfront and he gets into spaces but just cant quit do it . Hes not that player . Henderson would be better lounging in midfield ..
Seemingly gerread is oblivious to criticism .

I posted a team earlier and unless BR sees the light we will go down 4-1
mark my words

Ciah
South Africa

I think Gerrard would be better in shelveys positions because he has greater composure and is by far a better finisher

26 Dec 2012 20:11:17

26 Dec 2012 20:08:50
dont no why shelvey is still in the team, he offers nothing and doesnt deserve to be in team

26 Dec 2012 20:07:19
Walters is 6ft and even he looks small compared to the rest of his team!

26 Dec 2012 20:04:25
Haha..liverpool and their crazy defending, who takes charge of defending during training

Keep on ur own page

26 Dec 2012 20:04:23
This is going to be more embarrassing than the Villa result unless we can get one off their booked defenders sent off.

26 Dec 2012 20:03:50
Not putting men on the post from corners has to be dumbest coaching error. My team has been doing that since we were 9.

Johnson was on the post. But not near enough
Rodgers cant come on and stand him next to it!!

Lyndon

26 Dec 2012 20:23:31
Yeah so have my team, I'd say something like "none of our team have since the barca II" but that's a bit elitest, not of our team even made a team in the Vauxhall/Blue Square whatever it's called now league.

We've ****ed up but please don't break it down to something so dumb as players on posts - unless you're actively trying to troll as a moron. In that case, well done!

Its horrendous defending. Simple things loose you games. Stating a fact or a observation shouldn't be ridiculed. Maybe you didn't have a good christmas Maybe your in troll denial?

26 Dec 2012 20:02:53
This is like playing against Wimbledon from the eighties.

26 Dec 2012 20:02:25
I knew Walters and Jones would score, lets hope we can recover.

26 Dec 2012 20:01:56
Weak and soulless....

26 Dec 2012 20:00:40
Why are we playing crosses into the box? Suso is not going to win the ball...

26 Dec 2012 19:58:48
How many times is it possible to give the ball away. In 10 mins
Shelvey!!

26 Dec 2012 19:58:45
lol what a joke. two goals conceded already. another loss today.

26 Dec 2012 19:58:08
Jesus, I'd hate to see Reina's stats for shots on goal vs. Goals conceded.. Has to be pretty brutal.

That defeat against Villa is becoming worse. They have, as I write, shifted 12 goals without reply since they beat us. Crazy !!!

26 Dec 2012 19:38:38
Yep, it's very frutstrating. Chelsea showed us what could have happened if we'd converted one of those early chances, Spurs how to hold your head when not getting a breakthrough.

Seems the breakthrough we need is more mental than ability...

Yes but they also had a run of clean sheets before this current run...

26 Dec 2012 19:13:45
I am enjoying seeing the same back 4 and keeper every game - that's started to become a solid unit and it's even better with Lucas available.

I also like it's a threatening unit as well - fair enough MS isn't a bombing CB but the other 3 operate just as well in the opponents half (sometimes better) than they do in our own.

Come on today boys, crack that defence early and make it another thrashing! Hope it's a fun day for our travelling faithful.

Should have waited before posting this!

26 Dec 2012 19:03:48
I'm glad Allen and Sterling have been rested again but where is Sahin? I didn't expect him to start but at least on the bench?

26 Dec 2012 19:02:44
whos playing scrum half for stoke today?

The second row forward

26 Dec 2012 19:00:38
With the way the results have gone today so far, tonight is a must win. I have a gut though we're going to win 3-0. We'll get our first pen of the season. Saurez, Gerrard (pen) and Suso our scorers. Red card for a Stoke defender (I'm guessing Wilkinson). Here's hoping. On way to meet up with the lads and have some bevvies. Enjoy the game

Chi-Paul

stewart downing is our third joint top scorer
ymthats sayimg something isnt it

26 Dec 2012 18:48:45
The Reds team in full is: Liverpool: Reina, Johnson, Enrique, Skrtel, Agger, Lucas, Gerrard, Shelvey, Suso, Downing, Suarez. Subs: Jones, Carragher, Coates, Henderson, Allen, Cole, Sterling.

glad so see suso getting some time although just a bit worried he might be mugged out there as he's a bit lightweight compaired to the GIANTS on Stoke's rugby squad lol.

-Slim

I'd prefer to see Hendo in the starting 11.. he's stronger than Suso...I predict an early BR tactical substitution.

26 Dec 2012 18:18:56
will people stop posting things we have all known for weeks! obviously we are going to sign sturridge so stop making up stories saying u are in the know, we all know we have bid for ince, it is in blackpools hands now what they want to do so all the 100% signed, trust me hes signed is all lies, i love this site but im getting bored of reading the same stories im actually starting to enjoy the 'we will sign cavani and villa' stories now just because they are different!

john

26 Dec 2012 18:16:36
Surely brendan wont change any players why change a winning formation. Maybe sterling for suso but we were so well balanced last week. Our best performance of season surely he wont go and change it. I like joe allen but i fear allen and lucas sshouldnt be in same midfield. Last week we looked great with shelvey attacking. Please dont change anything if any sterling

I thought Fulham were poor & probably made the Liverpool chosen 11 look better...... stoke will be much more difficult.

26 Dec 2012 18:14:45
whos got the better first team, liverpool or everton and why, more importantly who will finish the highest (think logically before giving me abuse please) im undecided on both, my mates an everton fan so need some good answers so need some good answers to throw at him....

john

There's no everyone players that could get into the Liverpool team apart from maybe Baines. Just about sums it up.

Nick

Im a red but felani would be in our 11 this season!

Liverpool got the better 1st eleven, but Everton play a differnt game which gets results. Liverpool will always be a mid table team as long as they play tika-taka...to easy to read to easy to play against Everton to finish above Liverpool end of season

26 Dec 2012 18:00:29
Have a bad feeling we will lose today.. Don't mean to be so negative but I have this horrible feeling we will lose will Walters scoring late on for Stoke..

I really hate when United are considered the ''comeback kings''.
Istanbul 2005 thats all I'm saying!

When we were great, we were rubbish at comebacks, but that's because the opposition were never ahead of us.

What one game? when Man U have to come back more or less every game they play.

But when was the last time they were 3 goals down in a Champions League Final, or in fact any final, at half-time and came back to win on penalties? I bet it's been a pretty long time..

26 Dec 2012 17:19:55
Just wondering if anyone knows how borini's foot is doing heard he'll be bck somewhere mid January? Personally think the addition of sturridge will be helpful and give us more depth we really need.

Really wish that John Aldridge would keep his trap shut about Downing! Apart from goal hanging and a few goal's what else did he contribute to LFC? Oh the penalty miss against Wimbledon that lost us the FA cup! Button it Aldo! Ian-H

Quite a lot when he was part of. Probably the best Liverpool team of all time.

You are obviously misinformed or an person
My money's on the latter

Lyndon

That is abit disrespectful to a top goalscorer at the club. At a time of such a grest team and period for the club. If they'd of had European football they would of won European Cup at least once or twice

Give your head a shake!!

Also 50 goals in 83 games
Its no wonder people get snagged off. After 10/15 games. If your willing to slag a man with that record off!!

26 Dec 2012 17:58:23
Are you serious what has he done for Liverpool ?? Aldo was a smashing forward for us, an he is exactly what we need now ! Someone who knows where the back of the net is. Have a bit more respect for our former players !

Learn your history before you make statements as ludicrous as that, or you won't be allowed out to play.
ND

Did Aldo have pace? No Did he have vision? no All he was was a goal hanger who got shown the door when Rushie came back! And i'm not disputing we had one of the best Red side's i've ever seen but truthfully Aldo was a goal hanger! And need's to keep his mouth shout! Ian-H

In the 1988 side that beat forest 5-0
That Tom Finney said was the best football performance he'd ever seen

Brian Clough " the best performance he'd ever seen" and forest even played well themselves

You should be banned from ever darkening these pages again

Lyndon

Is that Ian-H
From steps!
If so I can see why you said what you said

What I wouldn't give for a "goal hanger" like Aldo.

Some right see you next Tuesdays on today.

Ian H Watkins
From steps I'd of thought you'd of been in a dark room hanging your head in shame!

Not replying to your own nonsense

Lyndon

Anyway what does Ian Hislop know about football?

Jimmy Sommerville wanna-be

Just not getting it, are you. On this matter you are simply wrong. Aldo was a great striker - end of argument. Doesn't matter how or where he scored from, and he carried on being a superb striker at his beloved Tranmere. If anything, we should have kept him much longer than we did. He's got every right to comment about any Liverpool player, because he's played for us and he cares. But feel free to carry on with your off the wall claptrap.
ND

Ian H
So you're point is that all Aldo (a striker) did was score goals? Unbelievable

Chris in Tamworth

Where's Aldo when ya need him?

26 Dec 2012 16:15:39
Bit of Boxing Day banter for you. Which championship victory was better:
1) 2005 champions league final, liverpool vs AC Milan 3-3 (3-2 on penalties)

Or

2) 2011/2012 Barclays premier league final day, Man city vs QPR 3-2

Or

3) 1999 champions league final, Manchester United vs Bayern Munich
2-1

All great comebacks, with a major championship on the line. Which was the greatest without any bias towards LFC.

And you posted that on a Liverpool website? Tut tut tut!

What a stupid comment to write on the LFC wall. Who in their right minds will say either of them manc games.

FowlerGod.

Not even a question 2005 all day long , 3 down at half time dead and berried

26 Dec 2012 17:18:29
As in Jerry Berried?

The only thing good about 1999 is the that we own the trophy. I believe that you are either a fan of the or the bitters. 2005 was the greatest game of football ever.

City kinda made a meal out of it. Clearly dominate team, and left it until the last minute to snatch a winner. Good in that it completely wiped the smug smile from Slur Alexsh's face.

The reason why United-Bayern is 'famous' is because United did what they do every week against Stoke and Reading. Go down and then jammily get two late goals.

Ours, well few teams (baring in mind we were serious underdogs) go three down before half time to comeback with a 6-minute wowza to win a match.

hey everyone this is not football related but, even though I'm a bit late,I would just like to wish the editors and my fellow fans a merry xmas and a joyous new year filled with great memories and happiness. Unfortunately I couldnt stop my tears from falling yesterday after I found out that a friend of mine had taken his own life in the early hours of xmas day. I would just like to encourage all of you to stay safe this festive season and not take anything in life for granted. Life is too short and please act responsibly before you do something you regret. Sturridge will be at the game today.

FowlerGod.

26 Dec 2012 15:31:43
great refereeing by Mike Dean. He may be doing a Npower game or 2 over the next month but he did it right by over ruling the umpire. C'mon barcodes lol

26 Dec 2012 14:03:25
anybody think a front three of sturridge suarez assaidi would be the best we have

We need more than that, thats for sure,

if we had two injuries up front, we'd be back to square 1,

br must of thought about it,

then again the guy did say: to let ac go out on loan and not get a replacement would make br a mad man.

so br is roofless, there his own words.

but here's the crazy bit, he has my full backing,

26 Dec 2012 13:39:29
Have Liverpool ever looked at Andrea Poli? Looks like a decent midfielder to have at the club, especially if players like Henderson are apparently moving on at some point if possible. {Ed052's Note - no we haven't from memory}

26 Dec 2012 13:33:24
hi eds i think liverpool should go for demba ba hes only cheap suarez ba sturridge the front three there would be goals everywere {Ed052's Note - very unlikely}

26 Dec 2012 13:22:47
Hi to all,

Well its common knowledge about our possible Jan signings...

Just wondering did anyone see the fans interview Brendan Rogers 90 minute interview, it was pretty damn good and refreshing,

Its on youtube(redmentv) or footytube on transfers he said attacking options are priority in Jan and in Summer LB and a nr 10. Anyone any comments on the LB or nr 10? Peace out. YNWA.

I think we will try and sign Christian eriksen in the summer. BR loves the guy.

Alot of managers love the guy.

Nick

Eriksen will not be joining liverpool

26 Dec 2012 13:03:35
eds do u kno if assaidi is goingto acon {Ed052's Note - he probably will if fit}

26 Dec 2012 12:56:49
Reading through the post it seems as though we are looking to sign Hourau and Jeffren on loan. But Ed, are either of the potential transfers likely or are they only possibilities?

Thanks! {Ed052's Note - Ince as repeatedly mentioned. Other targets may become clear if prime targets fall through}

Sorry ed what i meant was, are Hourau or Jeffren likely loan signing or are they just possibilities?

Thanks {Ed052's Note - possible at the minute. We will know more after Christmas}

26 Dec 2012 12:52:48
hi eds any idea whats gonna happen in regards to andy carroll? is he back in january if so do you think he will be sent packing in exchange for another player? {Ed052's Note - he wont return in January. He will be sold if possible in the summer}

26 Dec 2012 12:45:14
The only thing worse then working is working while Liverpool is playing! Need to put it on record and avoid anyone that will tell me the score! Ahh come reds a win today is needed! I think if I was brendon I would go 5 at the back purely because that way our wing backs have strength unlike most of our wingers. Just remember last time we got out muscled completely. How would everyone play it?

Red twist

I can see us having all of the ball today. just need to put it in the net a few times.

26 Dec 2012 12:42:29
ed when terry and lampard leave chelsea do u think lfc have any chance of getting them {Ed052's Note - no. Why we want old, overpayed, overpriced and poor players!!??}

& overrated
Paisley's genius

26 Dec 2012 12:39:38
I hope we win but I'll be happy just to have key players come out of this unscathed.

I'd rather lose 1 game than win but have Agger and Lucas out for a month.

Esp Lucas. Is it mere coincidence that his return has coincided in 4 wins in 5, Gerrard upturn in form and team generally doing better?

He really does a super job protecting the defence and winning the ball back. And he-s not even back to full fitness or best form yet.

Any push up the table will be affected by his staying fit.

All the best boys! Fight for the 3 points but stay safe!

going to be a very tough game if we win i will be over the moon i have a feeling that downing will have a good game today. just hope that hendreson starts today.

26 Dec 2012 12:14:49
Dunno why people are mad about Sturridge signing. You forget that we signed Henderson for 20 mil, Downing for 17 mil and Carroll for 35 mill. Sturridge for 12 million is easily a bargin. He is much better than them 3.

72mil on them wow.

we could of done with that now yer gutted wat was kk thinking

KK was thinking

"wow, I can't believe the Americans are letting Ian Ayre allow Comolli to spend so much on these players"

26 Dec 2012 12:08:56
Hi edds

Is butland a target for January?

Felix {Ed052's Note - ive heard the rumours but nothing firmer}

I stated the other day that butland does not want to join liverpool in fact he does not want to leave brum but if his hands are tied then he has no choice and then its open season

26 Dec 2012 12:06:23
Eds, Will Sturridge be able to play against Sunderland on January 2nd? Or will it take time to get paper work completed and into the FA. {Ed052's Note - its unlikey. Even if he was registered in time he probably wouldn't play}

26 Dec 2012 12:02:04
merry christmas eds,whats our interst in Sofiane Feghouli have we made an enquiry or is it just speculation ? {Ed052's Note - he has been hawked round a lot of clubs. We wont sign him}

26 Dec 2012 11:24:30
Please tell me Joe Allen isn't returning to the starting line up today!

That little boy will be thrown around pillar to post like a rag doll by those Stoke lads!!

Too lightweight for most games let alone this one.

Everybody bleating on "wait 'til Lucas is back, then we'll see the real Joe Allen"

There's been NO difference! I don't doubt his ability, he's just not strong enough to be a midfielder in this league.
Maybe it worked for him at Swansea because he had less technical more 'bully boy' midfielders to allow him to be creative?

I don't know but it's not working for him with us.

You don't watch a lot of football do you? Swansea having 'bully-boy' midfielders. That is funny!!

Raoul

Joe Allen will regain his form
Paisley's genius

You're blindly supporting him, which is recommendable but the proof is in the pudding.

YOU clearly don't watch much footy mate. Focus on Joe Allen today and count how many times he gives the ball away with strayed passes when under pressure, count how many times he gets muscled off the ball. Rodgers loves possession football, all Allwn does is give it away.

Maybe bully boy is a bad term. Just trying to work out why it worked for him at Swansea (to an extent) but not with us. Welsh Xabi, don't make me laugh!! {Ed052's Note - Allen hardly gives it away. He loses possession the least and has the highest pass percentage of all our players. You only notice him losing the ball because its so rare.}

Well that rant was embarassing for you my friend, we come on here to throw support around our beloved team/players. Joe Allen CARRIED us the first 5 games, no one can doubt that.. the ability is there and sometimes he's quicker than the likes of downing / cole etc with his thought process.. pls give the lad time! plus he's just become a daddy which takes alot out of ppl, he's just 22 and will come again.. Brendan will eventually molde this team into his OWN and Allen will be central to what he's trying to achieve.

26 Dec 2012 12:12:22
to an extent i agree with the post above i dont think he should start against stoke but i have not lost hope with allen he is very gifted player but he plays too safe bit like hendreson .allen was very good initially but that was when lucas was out and allen was asked to do lucas job now lucas is back and we expect allen to attack and go into the box to atleast give us some goal scoring threat and sadly he has not performed that well .Ayush

The original poster I think you are wrong. Allen as been superb for us. He as just had a dip in form but that's where our squad comes into play and take him out for a game or two to regain his form.

Mighty reds

Gotta agree with Raoul. Daft thing to say, Allen played with midfielders smaller than him at Swansea! Cannot believe the lack of support from so called fans for Allen. Was brilliant when he came, man of thr match game after game. He is a talent who's in a poor bit of form. That's all- it happens. Be a supporter for Christ sake!

Swansea have bully boy midfielders, is like saying Stoke play with flair.
Scouse_Pride

The midfield three of...
Allen Britton
Sigurdson

Bully boys... Really?

Ok daft comment re. Swansea!! But seriously ed, where do you get your stats from? The same place Damian Comolli gets his presumably!

We all know where stats got us (i give you Downing, Adam etc.). They're very misleading. Pass success rate from too many safe passes. When he tries anything imaginitive it breaks down time and time again.

His form at the start of the season was better, granted, but carrying us? Please!

As for support i've passionately supported this club for 30 years which is why i'm sick of mediocre playes like Allen being signed and leading us to the dogs. I'm not expecting the like of Iniesta here but there's gotta be better than Allen out there for £15m.

Hey, i hope he proves me wrong but i'm still waiting.

Here's to hoping to 3 pts tonight :) {Ed052's Note - well stats are conclusive when talking about Allen's ball retention}

Interviewer "rafa you picked Lucas again today why?" rafa "I think Lucas is a fantastic player" interviewer "Lucas seems to get a lot if criticism from a large section of Liverpool the liverpool support? rafa "I think Lucas is a fantastic player" interviewer "will you be playing him in the next game?" rafa "I think Lucas is a fantastic player"

"I hadn't played well at all, terrible really I knew I was in for a roasting after the game,Bill (shankly) came into the changing room & bawled me out the press was outside & heard everything, when shanks stepped outside a journalist asked "what about Brian hall today?" shanks replied "what a player what a performance the best player on the pitch!" that was the measure of him no matter what went on between you ultimately he would always back you,it was it he believed in it affected everyone from the team,to the staff,to the supporters, everybody supporting everybody else...
Brian hall interview

Paisley's genius

Point being?

Managers will nearly always back their players. I'm sure Taylor backed the enigmatic Carlton Palmer, didn't mean he should've played!

This may well be true of some players but i doubt it with Allen.

Everyone's entitled to opinion.

I just said i hoped he wouldn't play today given the opposition.

I hope he proves me wrong in the future but i find it extremely unlikely.

Indeed everyone is entitled to their opinion,as they are entitled to support or not support an individual, football is subjective,I personally rate Joe ALlen & think once he settles he will get even better, just my opinion....
Best of luck to the reds today & seasons greetings to the eds & reds everywhere y.n.w.a jft96

Ah today's going to be tough. I'm always pretty confident going into games but stoke are so physical and most of our players and very light weight. Hopefully Rodgers gets round this though. Come on reds

26 Dec 2012 10:13:37
would jst like to pass this on!

For Christmas i was given the book "champions league dreams; Rafa Benitez" and what can i say, its thoroughly worth a read and extremely insightful,

Would like to recommend it to any other LFC wishing to read into or remember some of our famous champions league scalps, and of course that special night, under Benitez's tennure

Happy Christmas

Have got a feeling that today will see our first penalty this season !
Remember where you heard it first...
The Juicer

Penalties are not as important when you playing rugby.

Got more chance of seeing a broken leg than a pen and we still wont get a pen, why coz its fixed against us,

i belive that som1 or thing in the fa has told all refs not to give pens for liverpool untill further notice.

26 Dec 2012 07:06:54
Eds,

Thank you very, very much. Whether it seems like it or not, you are appreciated.

Merry Christmas {Ed002's Note - Have a good time.}

26 Dec 2012 06:32:55
If the paperwork is only finalised on the 2nd can Sturridge make his debut that same day? {Ed002's Note - The next question will be if it is only finalised at 6:00pm can he start at 7:45pm.}

So if it is only finalised at 6pm can if play at 7.45pm?

26 Dec 2012 03:16:14
To Waro.
I'm sorry, but to be a red do I have to have blind loyalty to our legends. I respect King Kenny for what he did as a player, and for what he did in his first spell as manager.
However, his second spell was abysmal. 35 million on Carroll, 20 and Downing and 16 on Henderson. They're all decent but that's like paying £250 for a big mac meal. Leaving out Kuyt and Maxi. You might say we played good football last year, but if we preformed at the level after January all season we'd have been relegated. Simple.
I respect our legends, but that doesn't make them immune to criticism.
'Call yourselves reds'? This is coming from the same guy who slates Rodgers 5 months in to the job.
Don't you dare try and challenge my allegiance to Liverpool.
Blind loyalty will get you no where. Support your team not your idols. Before you question if I'm a red, look at yourself.
John

Nice one John well said

Great post, grew up with king kenny as my idol, his posters covered my bedroom walls, best ever liverpool player, as manager first time round he could do no wrong.
second time round, bloody hell, 70 million on downing, carroll and henderson, another 10 million on adam, wtf. but also we had no direction, was it long to carroll or short to suarez.
kenny had 18 months, first six was good, but not so good after that. rafa too had six years, again i loved rafa, totally supported him, istanbull 05, fa cup 06. great signings, torres, alonso, agger etc. but he too was not perfect.
we now have br, for me we are going in the right direction so far, hope he is the man we are looking for. also think the owners will back him in the transfer market.

B O H

Spot on John, I posted the other day regarding Sturridge joining and that it was a positive move for both parties. I also happened to mention a few home truths regards our transition period, and all i got was 'Are you sure your a red' 'Are you sure you support Liverpool' 'Maybe you should go and support another team' etc etc etc... Its pathetic. Again, very good post. John.

Stevie

You see, what you're doing John is picking on transfer fees and the second half of last season and using that as the reason to call King Kenny's second spell as a manager as abysmal.

Point 1: Do you have to be blindly loyal to King Kenny? Yes, you do, because what King Kenny has done for this club and it's
Supporters transcends football results and transfer fees. If you need a reminder I'm talking about Hillsbrough.

Point 2: Kenny Dalglish was the manager of the team. The manager does not negotiate transfer fees or players wages. The responsibility for these will be Comolli and Ayre.

Point 3: you fail to recognise Kenny's contribution during his first spell as manager.

Point 4: look at where we were when Kenny started his second spell, for the first 2 half seasons the improvement was incredible. The last half season post Suarez-Evra and practically the whole club getting sacked the league form fell apart but he still managed us to our first trophy in 7 seasons.

You call that abysmal?

Get yourself a memory and show some f-ing respect to the man

Marcus Aurelius

Are we still going on about this.... Get over it.... It's been n gone! King kenny will always be a true legend at Liverpool fc no matter what.....thank you king kenny for what you have done for us and will continue to do for us in the future!

26 Dec 2012 03:13:26
I realise that this news is a bit late but we all like to be in the know and I myself was only told today when meeting with family for Christmas, but the word from within melwood was that when BR had his 'chat' with Downing 6 weeks ago, Downing was sent home early from training and told that he can pack his bags and not turn up to training unless he stepped up and tried. I know it might be common knowledge but just a bit of info! Shows how good his man management skills are, getting a player back on track. Cheers ed's and hope everyone had a great Christmas!

26 Dec 2012 03:00:22
when is borini coming back from injury?
hims_red {Ed002's Note - He should be available mid January.}

26 Dec 2012 01:50:10
Hi Eds,
Just a quick question for Ed002 if he has time. Being that you are a Chelsea fan, how do you personally rate Sturridge?

Thanks in advance,

~Jack the lad~ {Ed002's Note - I am not really a great one for "rating" players. Sturridge has a decent record of scoring given he has generally play (a) from the bench; and (b) in wide positions. It can be argued that he has on occasion run out of space when he should have let the ball go earlier. All in all, a decent player and certainly one I think could adapt to Rodgers preferred style of play.}

To be fair, he's probably just about better than buying nothing in January.

26 Dec 2012 01:44:50
Merry Xmas eds and happy new year- thanks for all the great work
