Delighted at the Liverpool/ United draw. Can't help but laugh at the thought of BOTH sets of supporters singing
"Thursday night, Channel 5" at Eachother 😂

Safe journey to the Reds traveling down to London. I'll be setting off tomorrow. YNWA come on red men!

its like 2 bald men fighting over a comb. Have a great time at Wembley DBol.

26 Feb 2016 22:24:46
Right, who's going to the game on Sunday?
I've been relatively cool about it up until now.
. I'm not overly confident but to be honest, when can you be with Liverpool?
We are more than a match for City (on our day), so let's just hope that we are on our day. Either way, it's a cup final and it's been too long a space for a club like Liverpool.
All I hope is that the fans and the players give their all at Wembley.
If we do lose, I'd really hate to see streams of angry posts slagging off the team, the manager and the kit man.

Looking forward to the flags and songs of the travelling kop. It's been a funny few years really, so a cup win would be just the tonic.
Cheers!

Go out there, leave it all on the pitch and most of all, have NO regrets.

26 Feb 2016 19:40:37
Hi Eds,

Question for Ed001. What are you overall thoughts on Luis Garcias time at Liverpool? Also what made him leave?

Believable2 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - I loved him but he was incredibly inconsistent. He left because he was no longer wanted and it was time for him to go.}

26 Feb 2016 19:55:40
Agree there with you. For me he's still a legend to this day and I'll always remember his volley v Juve. Him and Kuyt are players I've dearly missed since their departure.

{Ed023's Note - One second you're screaming at him for trying a needless flick then bang it's all forgotten as he has just got a screamer moments later - he still loves the club too - an ambassador role would be a good shout for Garcia.}

26 Feb 2016 19:59:39
Definite legend King Luis.

26 Feb 2016 20:05:15
Couldn't agree with you more Ed023.

{Ed023's Note - *Thumbs up*}

27 Feb 2016 00:03:46
"That" volley makes him a legend.
He's also really sound in person as well, defo get him an ambassadors role.

26 Feb 2016 23:54:08
When Chelsea beat us under Brendan to stop us winning the league, did we make a mistake by bringing Luis over pre-match presentation almost taking the mick.
I feel this made Jose angry ref ghost goal in c-l semi final
which made him more bitter giving him more reason to stop us and prevent us winning the league that season.

26 Feb 2016 19:18:13
Hi guys, does anyone know if u have 2 have a members card to buy a hospitality ticket for man u game? Can't really make sense of what it says on website. Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

{Ed002's Note - I cannot imagine that would be the case.}

26 Feb 2016 19:26:52
Just checked again and it says home supporters only with valid membership card? Any ideas? Cheers eds.

{Ed002's Note - I have never seen hospitality sold thatw ay before.}

26 Feb 2016 19:17:26

What's Klopp's preferred hot drink?

Clipper Tea.

26 Feb 2016 17:55:21
Hi ed01 any chance dat transfer update.

Believable0 Unbelievable8

{Ed002's Note - This has already been done - read the posts.}

26 Feb 2016 19:24:57
Where is the update ed? Tried searching cannot find anything anywhere.

One of the best things to read on this site.

26 Feb 2016 21:00:41
Hey Ed001/ 002 I think Ed001 said he would do his update. Maybe the poster is alluding to that? Although Ed002's update was so mind bogglingly insightful!

26 Feb 2016 17:49:43
Hi ed01 the more I watch us play I can't help thinking in the middle of the park we don't seem to be very good defensively. What I mean by this is it seems very easy for teams to get decent possession in our final third without having to do much . Opposition seem to be able to work space to get crosses in and it leads to an end to end type game ie you attack we attack . Are we missing a player in there to organise and dictate or is it just the way we are set up. For all the industry of can and hendo I feel they don't control tempo of games that well. Your thoughts please.

Believable1 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - we just lack positional sense defensively. We are playing 4 across the middle, which means we can leave Firmino and Studger up top, so we need the other 4 to be organised and take up their places when we lose the ball. Usually Milner is off somewhere else and Moreno has got caught up field, so there are gaps for opponents to exploit. That is not a dig at either player, as that is the way we are playing, and relying on a press to stop attacks, rather than the solid positioning that Leicester use. If you watch them, they will have two solid banks of four almost immediately that they lost possession. We, on the other hand, have half our players out of position and they are not getting back into place quickly enough.}

26 Feb 2016 19:38:43
Good post, Ed. This may explain why we look ragged a times because we are out of position because as you say, we rely on the high press to win the ball back instead retreating into the spaces. However, is it not possible for us to press and cover retreat into position when we losthe ball? I see that Barcelona does it a lot if I`m not mistaken.

{Ed001's Note - it would be if Moreno dropped back as quickly as he got forward and if Can and Henderson were to rush straight back in. It takes a lot of hard work to do it but it can be done, Leicester's success has been built on it.}

26 Feb 2016 17:03:43
We have been piss poor through out the season, Yet find ourself 4 fixtures away from an assured CL position for the coming season. Added to it we get two matches against every team until we reach the final plus some biggies might get eliminated during the course.

I really hope Klopp prioritises EL and its importance of a CL place next season.

I would play UTD twice than in the final.

Certainly not an easy fixture as people say, but then enough of excuses and let's actually play some football.

YNWA To Reds.

Believable7 Unbelievable10

26 Feb 2016 17:27:17
If somebody could answer this question and solve an argument for me I would be very grateful. if Liverpool, or Spurs or United were to win Europa Lg and finish outside top for of Premier League. would England have 4 or 5 sides possibly entering the Champions League next season?

Believable1 Unbelievable6

{Ed002's Note - Five.}

26 Feb 2016 22:37:59
Add to that if Chelsea win the CL, would that then be six teams in the CL next season?

{Ed002's Note - No - five max. 4th would drop down to the EL.}

26 Feb 2016 17:19:41
Hey Ed002, from a completely naive standpoint, I wonder what you think of the new Fifa president and the changes that will follow. I was hoping you could fill us in on the changes, as I really am ignorant on the whole situation. What do you make of them?

Believable0 Unbelievable6

{Ed002's Note - They drove out the one guy who I felt would have been the best option a few months back. The changes are a little unknown right now - it is not always easy to keep promises made in elections. Whilst the Ethics Committee are going down the “too much and get something wrong” is better than “too little and miss something” route, the mess is far from over and their reputation is all but shot. The United States Justice Department does not work quickly and such it could take a long time (years) to come to court in the United States. The Swiss Feds have acted as a result of information provided by the US which is, I understand, compelling enough for them to begin a separate investigation. There are also going to be sponsorship issues for FIFA to address. Then the 2022 world cup issue will be back to the fore. It is going to be a rough ride and it will need restructuring to get it right - it may even need replacing.

There are changes proposed by Infantino are in some cases trite - holding the World Cup across several nations makes zip sense unless the nations choose to bid together. Expanding the World Cup to 40 teams was a proposal designed to win votes - but the major nations in Europe and South America see it as nonsense. The FIFA "Council" proposal is simply the creation of another quango. The rest of the proposals to ensure open tender processes, open finances, compliance etc. are there to placate those who see nothing but corruption. Everyone had similar proposals.

Fine words butter no parsnips.}

26 Feb 2016 17:49:47
Ed2, is 2022 under threat? I'm possibly coming from the wrong angle but I maintain that awarding Qatar the world Cup was a bizarre choice on almost every level. Is there a chance that the competition will not be held there?

{Ed002's Note - Just possibly - it would create a very difficult situation with the money that has already been paid by Fox, and with the Australians who had what was perceived to be a "winning" proposal but one that would require the timing of the WC to be moved - and that was the reason given for it not winning. There is a pending legal mess to unravel there.}

26 Feb 2016 18:33:58
Thank you Ed. It will certainly be interesting to see how all this unfolds. I've read that none of the candidates were that appealing. And too that the candidate that dropped out and said "it's your problem now" seemed very alarming. Appreciate your insight!

26 Feb 2016 22:03:43
Timing as in match scheduling due to time zone differences? Surely that's a smaller issue than moving the whole bloody tournament to winter when it is in conflict with normal domestic football season. What a corrupt mess this is.

27 Feb 2016 00:45:29
Are you alluding to David Dein with reference to pushing put the one man who could change the organisation?

{Ed002's Note - No, not at all.}

26 Feb 2016 17:06:35
first time poster, I love this site, great work from the Eds and contributors. If they have time to indulge me, a question for the Eds other posters. I get the sense you have great inside knowledge of players characters, attitude and personal circumstances, with that in mind, which Liverpool players, past or present, had the most technical ability and physical attributes, who then never really went on to have the careers they could have? In my view, Benteke and Balotelli come to mind from our current squad, but you may argue they just don't have the aerobic capacity of a Milner for example? If you understood all that waffle I should compliment you on your own ability!

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - there are loads, David James springs to mind - he was an utter tool with the physical and technical ability to be the best goalkeeper in the world but was lazy mentally and too up his own backside to care to improve. Harry Kewell and Alberto Aquilani would have to come into it, Aquaman was so bad Rafa pretended he was not fit so he didn't have to own up to his error in signing him.}

26 Feb 2016 17:48:54
Ryan babbel springs to mind.
Looked world class at times and dreadful the next.
Always thought if he could become consistently good then he would be brilliant for us, not checked but I don't think he had much of a career after us.
Plenty of youngsters over the years as well, nemeth? Anyone heard from suso?

{Ed001's Note - Babel just got booted from another team last month.}

26 Feb 2016 18:18:35
I often wandered about his attitude ed001 sounds like you have answered that quite nicely, he played well once in a blue moon, but most of the time he was happy to coast through games like he couldn't be arsed, whatever talent he may have had looks like he has wasted it. I think suso is now playing for genoa 1985mikey1985, his time at milan has not gone well.

{Ed001's Note - he wasn't as technically good as he should have been either, which was partially why he was hit and miss. Babel I mean. That lazy attitude followed through in training.}

26 Feb 2016 16:43:26
If Liverpool were to make it to the final of the Europa league and there opponent had already qualified for the champions league via there domestic league would Liverpool still get a champions league spot if they were to lose?

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - No - the winners get the place.}

26 Feb 2016 19:05:40
How many more times have the Eds got to answer this same question.

26 Feb 2016 22:19:57
until it sinks in, give it time.

26 Feb 2016 15:46:31
Man City in the final, Man Utd in Europe. If you could choose to get a result in just one of these fixtures, which would it be?
I'm torn as any silverware is important yet I'd hate us to be put out of Europe by that lot.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed023's Note - I'd go with beating City as it guarantees a trophy}

26 Feb 2016 16:13:07
Beating both would be nice! Innate hatred versus silverware? It's a tough call.

26 Feb 2016 18:23:09
silverware is what this club is all about, let's be greedy and beat them both, I would love to give them a taste of there own medicine by staging 2 smash and grabs, let them know what it feels like. they ca'nt keep getting away with being poor and beating us, our luck must change sometime.

26 Feb 2016 18:34:55
That is a really hard one but although my head say trohpy, I would rather go with the heart and beat United as long as they don't get top 4 in the league. Beating United mean our season will be longer, it will leave good taste for the end of the season and begining of next season, it means we are closer to the EL title and come to the quarter final full of confidence. And it can mean they are out of the CL next season. And let's face it the league cup is a very nice trophy but if you are not in it, it is not as big as the other trohpies. I hope we win on Sunday and I will be dissapointed if we lose but can live with it. If we lose again to united I need to take a week off from life. It really killed me, this draw. I hate playing them.

Pass Penalty Is Spreading, O'Neill Advises Player To Quit Everton And More

26 Feb 2016 15:43:51
{Ed's Note - We have posted a new article entitled, Pass Penalty Is Spreading, O'Neill Advises Player To Quit Everton And More

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Feb 2016 13:46:30
got to say i feel for benteke, and i think he is being wasted just sat on the bench. some people might disagree with this and i know its important to get Danny S fitness up to speed but there have been times in a few games where it has been itching for a player like benteke and his style of play. got to give him that chance to either get used to what klopp wants or at least keep some of his value he is still our top scorer play the lad.

Believable3 Unbelievable13

26 Feb 2016 14:12:12
Benteke needs wingers and fullbacks who will chuck in high quality cross after high quality cross right onto his head.
We don't have the wingers to do that and our full backs crossing ability is very poor.
Benteke is completely unwilling to adapt to the style of play at the club (high energy, high pressing) so it's a case of square peg, round hole, thanks Brendan.
I do feel sorry for him though yes, his career has taken a hit because of this move.

26 Feb 2016 14:13:25
Surely if he was performing any better in training he'd be pushing origi for a place off the bench? There's hopefully must win games again, plenty of time for him to try and make an impression.

26 Feb 2016 14:13:28
I share your sympathy but I've come to the realization that his time is done. Klopp has put him down the pecking order at 4th choice behind Studge, Firmino and Origi and it's likely Ings will be above him as well when he returns.

It's a shame as I think if he could be integrated he'd be a useful member of the team, I like having squad players that offer something different to the first choice. Sadly for him he hasn't taken the chances he has been given whilst others have. Nothings set in stone until a transfer is signed but I doubt he's going to force his way back into the team now.

26 Feb 2016 14:13:30
You mean standing around doing nothing? No thanks.

26 Feb 2016 15:15:56
Next one on the Megabus after Migs.

26 Feb 2016 15:16:15
Having said that. "IF" we bought a winger in the summer who is an excellent crosser, intergrated flanno back in the team (better crosser than clyne by miles), intergrated smith in the team as well (seems to be able to cross better than Moreno) then he could be kept as a very good plan B.
He could then stand still while them 3 players whip in crosses for him.

26 Feb 2016 16:15:49
JK must see something some of us don't see. I was a little optimistic when we signed CB but he does look lazy and not what we need. Impact sub, will he stay or will he go - would free up funds but for who? Decision not as easy as it seems.

26 Feb 2016 16:32:13
Hxred said it perfect. I thought he would appreciate the movement of Sturbridge and coutinho but obviously he's still lazing about in training.

26 Feb 2016 21:52:58
never feel sorry for a highly paid footballer, bentenke isn't a child, sturridge and ings have been out for a long time yet he still couldn't convince klopp to trust him to lead the line, with firmino and origi even caulker! preferred to him, it all gets summed up for me by his displays against Exeter given the line up of both teams he should have been head and shoulders above everyone on the pitch, the less said about his finishing vs west ham the better. i'm 100% convinced he will be gone in the summer.

26 Feb 2016 13:26:07
David De Gea is the difference maker in this tie. If Daniel Sturridge stays fit and hits form and we play an attacking trio with him Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino then we will create loads of chances for him. This tie will hopefully allow Jurgen Klopp to see exactly what Anfield is like during a European game but I feel it'll be the same as a league match with not enough vocal true fans in attendance.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

26 Feb 2016 14:39:13
Probably the easiest draw we could have got tbh.

Shame it couldn't have been the semi final but it will be nice to put the final nail in their Europa League aspirations.

26 Feb 2016 14:58:27
I think there are easier teams out there and its not a easy draw by any means.
If we beat them it would be amazing but if we lose against them it will ruin my week.

26 Feb 2016 15:31:07
Crazy Horse if we do lose it would defo ruin the week, it could also ruin my career. I work with three Manc's so think i'd have to quit my job if we lose!

26 Feb 2016 16:10:55
love the confidence Ron! Trepidation! Hopefully we can stuff 'em. Have to admit to having a little squirt of wee when I found out we got the mancs - bring 'em on.

26 Feb 2016 17:07:50
Don`t mind the draw but I fear that our boys are starting to get psychologically affected by playing Utd in the past few games. of the past 5 games we`ve played, we have outplayed them in at least three of them and got nothing to show for it but smash and grab. The last time we played them, we outplayed them so much they had a shouting match at half time and had we converted the chances we had, The game should have been over before they even scored. Alas, we got screwed over. Hence, I fear that our boys may now be thinking they can`t beat Utd on our best day while Utd think and Know they can beat us on their worst day.

26 Feb 2016 17:42:34
Man Utd will need to drop down to league 1 to restore their confidence after these matches 😎.

26 Feb 2016 15:24:30
This is by no means an easy game. Like us UTD need EL to secure a CL place next season.

26 Feb 2016 21:59:42
plus 2 English teams playing each other dosent help England trying to keep there cl quota. The spurs vs Dortmund game should be a cracker as well.

26 Feb 2016 22:06:54
I've almost lost count of the amount of times Liverpool fans over the past couple of years have called an upcoming match against United 'easy' and essentially 'in the bag', only for us to lose. Form goes out the window in these matches.

26 Feb 2016 13:19:48
Tbh excited about playing United and do think it is game w should have a good chance of winning but one thing does worry me.

We seem to create chances and not score whilst the times I've watched United the other team has created more and played better but lost. which sums up our last few games against United, better team but lost.

Fingers crossed this is the time we convert all the 20 odd chances we create!

Believable8 Unbelievable0

26 Feb 2016 13:46:03
We needed this chance to right the wrongs. its the most eventful fixture we could have got, its just going to be great.

26 Feb 2016 16:37:27
Don't worry Roland, just look forward to it. Every time we play ManU I just see it as a chance to beat them! Even if we lose - a chance to beat ManU is what every true LFC wants.

26 Feb 2016 17:09:42
Danny, at some point we must end this hoodoo of outplaying them all game and coming up empty-handed in the end. If we don`t, it will eat our boys up psychologically each time the name Man Utd is even mentioned.

26 Feb 2016 13:12:44
Can I just enquire what exactly about that penalty was controversial? Player raised his hand in the box, punching the ball away from danger. Wasn't what the player was intending to do so no card. How is that controversial or lucky? If it wasn't a stonewall penalty every time you'd just have your own players shoving into each other every game to use as an excuse to punch it away! Fair enough it would have been a foul if it was an LFC player on his back but it wasn't and it was a penalty all day unless there is something major that I'm missing.

Believable9 Unbelievable2

26 Feb 2016 14:19:12
It was 50/ 50 imo. The player jumps for the ball gets clattered from b.

26 Feb 2016 14:20:33
It was a 50/ 50 imo. The player gets clattered from behind by his own teammate and the ball hits his arm. The rules are if it was intentional but i don't think it was.

{Ed001's Note - that also includes making yourself bigger by having your arm out from your body, as the intention is to divert the ball from its path.}

26 Feb 2016 14:35:48
player jumps with his hands up in the air.

pushed from behind or not, that's a penalty.

26 Feb 2016 16:17:25
Academic, penalty - we won, game over, let's move on to ManU!

26 Feb 2016 16:47:27
Agree with you danny but it terms of knowing the rules of the game, since when did it have to be deliberate and intentional? As far as I was aware there was leeway for doing everything possible to not get hit e. g. arms tucked behind you or into the chest, but if your arms were up no matter what it was a penalty. Just slightly confused - and not that I hugely rated him as a ref whatever his worldwide ranking was but Howard Webb sounded equally confused that there was even a question on it.

26 Feb 2016 17:11:59
The penalty was the correct decision. Who jumps with their hands high up in the air to head a ball? Answer: Someone who is trying to screw his own team or someone who knows nothing about going up to head the ball and he got punished for it. It was a penalty so move on.

26 Feb 2016 13:05:24
The dream of winning the EL and therefore qualifying for the CL by beating United and Dortmund in the final is one step closer! Shame the dream of knocking out all the other English teams and Dortmund final is gone but oh well!

In all seriousness though, if we show up against United we win - they are poor on their good days. Time for us to make ourselves known!

Believable5 Unbelievable0

26 Feb 2016 12:54:58
So glad we're going to get another shot at Louis Van Gaals Manchester United. The worst United team in recent history and yet they've fluked results against us everytime. If he leaves United with an unbeaten record against Liverpool I just don't think I would cope.

Believable13 Unbelievable4

26 Feb 2016 16:38:50
Agreed! Let's do 'em. Klopp has said that this is the draw he wanted - passion!

26 Feb 2016 17:13:47
Love the enthusiasm but I`m sure based on recent history, Utd are chuffed the prospect of playing us as well. Either way, all that history will not matter when the whistle blows so let`s stuff `em.

26 Feb 2016 12:28:40
Not them again.

Believable3 Unbelievable6

26 Feb 2016 17:14:04
Said the exact same thing, Fano.

26 Feb 2016 12:27:52
United in the Europa! ' Bring 'em off. Chance for revenge for our defeats this season (please please)

Believable7 Unbelievable0

26 Feb 2016 12:46:26
Bring 'em on might read a little better!

26 Feb 2016 12:27:38
What a draw! I'm glad we're away 2nd leg though, and we owe them something this season. Bad one for Spurs but at least there's a minimum of 1 club through to help the coefficient!

Believable4 Unbelievable0

26 Feb 2016 12:56:47
Rather be at home second leg personally.

26 Feb 2016 21:21:43
I just think with away goals it's often advantageous to be away, a goal in the last 10 mins is potentially worth 2 etc.

26 Feb 2016 12:22:59
Liverpool got utd in the Europe league lol.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

26 Feb 2016 12:33:30
It had to be, written like a book!

26 Feb 2016 12:37:03
Would have been nice for the final, but oh well.

26 Feb 2016 12:39:58
Not been watching recent games.

Hope this will not be a dull affair like this years league result wise.

26 Feb 2016 09:23:38
Ed it might not be right posting here but who do you think will win the premier league this year? its very exciting will all top 4 with a good chance.

I'd back city to win it, they do it in the crunch moments.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - sod it, I am going to back Leicester, but that is in hope rather than expectation.}

26 Feb 2016 09:35:55
true ed0001 everyone wishes for leicester to win. also they have shown enough to deserve it. I to hope they win it but as you said don't expect it. anyways i think they will be in CL 100 percent next year.

{Ed001's Note - that will be a Champions League run I look forward to watching.}

26 Feb 2016 09:53:14
yea imagine the giants like Barcelona or Bayern visiting the king power stadium. it will be great for English game and the giants will get a game . with there style of play i think Leicester will actually be a very tough opposition for any CL club! a lot tougher than city, chelsea and arsenal of today.

{Ed001's Note - I hope so, it would be nice to see them given a doing by Leicester!}

26 Feb 2016 11:15:38
I am not sure Leicester will be doing too well next season. Their squad does not have too much quality outside the first 11 and 90% of that team has never played in an European competition which will be hard, especially with more games and travelling. Ranieri will need to bring in at least 7-8 quality players without disturbing the balance too much and keeping the likes of Mahrez and Schmeichel out of the clutches of the big clubs.

26 Feb 2016 12:16:48
If they manage to keep hold of key players and add a few decent back ups to cover injures then I can see them doing quite well in Europe.

26 Feb 2016 12:24:01
Ed001 and his predictions 😉.

{Ed001's Note - hehehe I really don't like doing predictions!}

More accurate than mine 😄.

Why would they not have a good season next year if they hold on to their players? For 3/ 4 of the season, no one has been able to figure them out so what`s going to change next season?

26 Feb 2016 18:34:30
they have very rich and ambitious owners, yes next year will be harder for them with more games to play but I wouldn't be shocked to see them do well again next season, plus prospective new signings will be seduced by the prospect of cl football, they will be a breath of fresh air to that competition.

Those of you disappointed with last night here are a few facts to consider.

Last night was the first time Liverpool have progressed from the first round knockout stage of any European competition since the 09/ 10 season. 6 years!

Liverpool are ranked 47th in Europe, we are the 4th lowest ranked team left in the contest!

My point is, we have been awful in Europe for over half a decade, just enjoy it. A one goal lead in Europe is never easy, concede and your out!

We have kept 3 clean sheets in a row and, were in the last 16 of the Europa, and we are in a final on Sunday!

Come on you reds 🏆.

{Ed001's Note - I thought we played well, just needed better finishing, or, in some cases, worse finishing so that shots that hit the keeper were mishit slightly and went to either side of him.}

No one is dissapointed with the result or with the number of chances we created. But not converting our chances has been a huge and consistent problem for us since the day Suarez left regardless who plays upfront. I can't explain it really. We played 43 games this season in all competitions and only in 12 of them we scored more than one goal. And it is not that we have a mighty defence that we can count on it in every game and so we became the sort of team that grinds 1:0 results. Teams in the next rounds will have much better forwards than Augsburg.

Moving to the last 16 is nice and is defo a progress compared to last year. It is still only the last 16 of the EL. And some strong teams are waiting in the next round, and some less favorable referees. But one game at a time.

Tell you what though, I will happily take 1:0 or even 0:0 and us winning it in in a shootout on Sunday. That will be massive.

26 Feb 2016 07:57:26
Agreed ed and fanobip.

I think the players are very conscious of the lack of goals and so are simply focusing on hitting the target rather then placing the shot, hence all the shots straight at the keeper!
I know nobody is disappointed with the result but there wasn't much appreciation for the team on here last night.

Can't understand how we're 3rd favourites with the bookies to win it. We're even above Tottenham which on form is ridiculous.

Hope the bookies are right though and we can have a run to at least the semi-finals.

26 Feb 2016 08:16:33
Its done on betting patterns mickrude. Liverpool is still a massive name in Europe so I imagine a lot of people globally have backed us to win it which would bring the odds down.
Half the punters probably bet on the name alone without ever looking at the form guide.

{Ed001's Note - and a lot will be down to Spurs having a chance of winning the Prem, which is their focus.}

26 Feb 2016 10:11:13
Plus we have a manager with history of European runs .

26 Feb 2016 11:17:07
Still think one of the La Liga clubs will win Europa. Putting my money on Villareal, who just sent favorites Napoli crashing out.

26 Feb 2016 13:08:04
If the final is Seville vs Villareal, there is only one winner there and it's not Villa.

26 Feb 2016 04:41:49
1 thing I will never get is the way we attack corner. We had 12 corner tonight and none of them look threatening at all. Why always overcrowd the 6 yards box. Why don't we have our center back at the corner of 18 yard box so they can gain momentum and attack the ball with more power.
Time and time again they went short and nth came out of it. And also we don't have any decent corner taker at all. Milner, Henderson, Coutinho. Most of the time we even struggle to get the ball past the 1st man. Even if the delivery is decent every now and then, the keeper will get the ball as we saw it happened twice in the game.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - if we weren't overloading the 6 yard box, then the corners wouldn't go in there, where the keeper can just catch them easily. So I am not sure it is all about the corner taker.}

26 Feb 2016 07:22:10
It's been a problem since Gary Mac retired.
Kloppo has a lot of work to do with this side.

{Ed001's Note - Teixeira and Branagan showed good delivery.}

26 Feb 2016 08:29:03
The main problem is the players in the box are all static when the ball is struck. They never get that half yard in front of their marker. Look at Chelsea, their players all make runs and if the ball comes in their zone they are already on the move and can attack it.

26 Feb 2016 10:32:13
I must have witnessed Milner but about 4 corners in the box last night which the keeper easily plucked out the air, and a further 4/ 5 crosses that hit the 1st defender. He's a solid player by my god his crossing infuriates me!

26 Feb 2016 11:07:37
At least he was actually playing it in the box rather than trying the short corner with henderson where they conspire to perform their best chuckle bros routine. In the two/ three matches previous to last night we've been forced to watch them missing 5-10 yrd passes to each other in ill rehearsed brainless set pieces that just make both look idiotic. Its been driving me crazy.

26 Feb 2016 15:04:52
I think we should keep things simple. I see a lot of teams just whip the ball in a dangerous area where goalkeeper can't come to catch it and then attack the ball and hope something happens.
But we try to do everything very pretty and roll the ball into the net, that why we can't score from corners.

26 Feb 2016 18:39:25
when toure scored from a corner last week I nearly fainted! our corners are so poor I don't know why we bother getting them, all joking aside we really need to improve in this area, both defending them and attacking them.

26 Feb 2016 01:48:44
We did what was needed tonight as Sunday we play in a cup final. Move on were through and that's all that matters. 2 clean sheets and still unbeaten in Europe this season.

I agree. A good performance is secondary to a win in any knockout stage of a cup.
