Not sure if you slightly missed my point Ed005?!
What i was saying was that it's great the song is sung by LFC fans as i am half Irish / half Scouse & it makes me feel even more at home when at Anfield.
I was also referring to the Irish connections with the city of Liverpool not so much LFC as you may have thought i was referring to?!
Ulster is in Ireland too (which makes those guys you mentioned Irish) by the way, it's only politics that segregates Ulster from the Republic, regardless of whether they are "orange" or otherwise mate!
But we won't go into that as this is not the right forum for that!
And because i would argue all day long for you on the subject & i just can't be bothered tonight as i'm up nearly 20 hours now.
Maybe tomorrow :)

Those kind of debates should be kept off here. Football is not politics and many people try to involve politics when it comes to our club and a certain club or two in Scotland. It is irrelevant completly. Plus, someone from Ulster or Northern Ireland to be factually and politically correct is entitled to be Irish or British/ Northern Irish. Most are British/ N.Irish and the rest are Irish - everyone has that right so regardless the people are all human being and I'm sure they are patriotic. PS: Mr.Houlding was a Tory politician and English I think, despite being an Orangman, and I'm sure the other guy from Ulster would have considered himself British being in the OO. As a proud British Red from the little known Whitechapel north of Preston, I think us Brits will take the credit for the formation and heritage of our beloved Liverpool FC.

This is an LFC board, lets keep it about LFC and we'll all get along just fine.

{Ed005's Note - It's all fun and games, if a club uses the tune of a song that another club uses, who cares? I don't even think it has anything to do with the Irish connection to the city of Liverpool they are just good tunes for the words of the song. Liverpool FC actually tends to have more connections with Orangemen, given that the likes of John Houlding and John McKenna who was an Ulsterman, were key figures for LFC out of all the founding fathers on Merseyside football. The Irish Will Cuff and George Mahon were blues.}

I've got 2 opinions on charlie adam. If he's coming in to play the holding miidfield position then I think he'll be playing a lot of football for us because he can pass the ball from deep in our own half accurately. Not just hoofing it up the field hoping that Carroll is on the end of it. Lucas is doing fine but Adam's left foot & range of passing offer us something different & we need options.
As an attacking mid again his left foot is impressive & he seems to get on the score sheet quite regularly for a midfielder but I would prefer somebody who is more agile, mobile & pacier. Honda would be my choice for that position because he can fill the left wing & left fullback slot if need be. I don't like right footed players on the left because we need width. Unless its Suarez. He can play in any attacking role effectively.

Adam, Banega, Young, Dzsudzsak, Johnson, M'Vila, Sissoko, Baines, Enrique, Bojan, Remy, Gervinho, Benzema, Hazard, Sanchez, Sahin, Martinez, Cahill, Dann, Jarvis, Afellay, Richards, Gomez, Payet, Henderson, Pjanic, Zhirkov, Griezmann, Mexes, Hoarau, Monreal, Toivonen, Lukaku, Prieto, Wijnaldum, Wickham, Canales, Eriksen, Llorente, Fernando, Rodriguez, Lovren, Suarez, Hamsik, Cazorla, Downing, Bent, Ruiz are names that are on Kenny and DC's target list, I will tell you more of the names when I get hold of them. {Ed005's Note - Mostly just the names mentioned in the papers.}

i would LOVE to get suarez, i think he'd make a great contribution to the team

I think maybe the poster was probably talking about Jeffren Suarez of Barca (I think) who we have also been linked with and in my opinion would be a top signing

Give Jovanovic a chance?? . . .yes deffo. . he is miles better than Maxi and Cole!

By all accounts he has been told good things about the club by former Reds and was very interested in coming.

There is a chance Real will sell if they get there targets, Llorente is one of them.

No idea mate how many signings we will make.

Cheers

Macca

Thanks for the info Macca.
I bet the former Reds are Xabi Alonso and Arbeloa? =) Bless them.

Also, i think Real will try to get Llorente or Aguero and with Higuain coming back, there's a big possibility they'll sell Benzema. {Ed005's Note - Don't forget Dudek! And the only reason Benzema has actually got a chance in the first-team is because of Higuain's injury. Real Madrid's intention was always to sell Benzema and use the money to buy Llorente. And they have money set aside to buy Aguero. Even if Llorente arrives on his own, he will play in a front three with Ronaldo and Higuain. Benzema will still then have to compete with Di Maria and Leon for a starting place.}

Why is Mexes even being mentioned in the same breath as Liverpool?
He's simply not good enough!
And he's probably about 30 which goes against NESV' policy on bringing in younger players.
It'd be a stupid stupid signing for me if it happened!
Plenty of better options out there who are younger, hungrier, quicker etc.
Yes they'll cost us ££s, but we have money to do it.
Please drop the Mexes talk!
If he was English / Irish / Scottish / Welsh he wouldn't be linked to us but because he is foreign he now is a "must" seemingly?!
I'd rather try somebody like Dann if pushed into buying a CB.
He's a local lad too from what i've been told so that's a bonus.
Just because a player is foreign doesn't mean they're any good!
Torben Piknic anybody?
Istvan Kozma then?
Cheers,
Irish Kev.

Milan Jovanovic looked impressive when he came on as a sub against N Ireland last night. . do you think he should have a decent chance from now until end of season? ?

yes is aslo think that we struggled more than we should have in that match against braga because we didn't really have attacking options but it really wouldn't of hurt KD to have played him

Can I just say to the person who says mcmanaman not an idol cos he walked out on us on a bosman u obviously no nothing , the lad never wanted to leave but felt he had to as the club tried cashing in on him buy offering him to Barcelona for so many million , so he then honoured his contract an moved on to real Madrid . . . {Ed005's Note - Everyone knows the fields of Anfield Road wasn't created by Liverpool fans. But there's nothing wrong with us singing songs using the same tune as songs/ or songs the Celtic fans use.}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I totally agree Ed.
Especially with the "Anfield Road" song, it being sung really makes me feel proud & welcome as an Irish man when i hear that at Anfield.
Liverpool after all has a very strong history with Ireland whether certain minority idiots like it or not - i couldn't give a $hlt!
The poster earlier who seemed a bit confused about the origins of the songs was probably only joking or a young kid.
There are enough other clubs that take our songs so why not us use some of theirs?!
Cheers,

is it possible to get it done within 3 months like before august?? {Ed005's Note - I would hope so but I doubt it could be done in three months if we were looking to expand to about 60,000.}

thanks Ed, its almost 4.00 am over here in India rite now, this curiosity was killing me.finally i can go to sleep now.

Hi ed,
just wanna make a comment on what the manager of serbia said as regards milan jovanovic, i do completely agree with what the manager said. .jovanovic is a really good player and does deserve to get more games, of the games ive seen him play, he hasnt had a bad game for liverpool and does deserve a proper chance, i would definitely start him ahead of maxi and joe cole, what do you think ed? {Ed005's Note - I will admit that I think he has deserved more games. Especially ahead of Joe Cole. We need pace and he is quick, and he has a left foot so he could provide some width. I'm not saying he'd be a world beater - but could he be any worse than J.Cole?}

to be honest joe cole has gone backwards in the last 9 months and i do think jova would try a lot harder than cole. . you are right he may not be a world beater but unlike all of our apparent 'wingers', he can take on players, beat them and get a good cross into the box 9 times out of ten. . ed would you like to see him start more on the left? ? {Ed005's Note - Perhaps a start or two on the left.}

26 Mar 2011 22:26:30
Ed is it true juventus have put chielini and buffon up for sale, do you think we could get chielini if we offered aquilani and about 14m {Ed005's Note - He would be a good singing but it won't be happening at the moment.}

The 'Just Can't Get Enough' song was originally a Celtic anthem which was carried over 2-3 years ago when half the Irish squad were Celtic players.
Though, you really are dull if you think they're singing the Fields of Anfield Road.

Martin {Ed005's Note - It was a song created by some band.}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Just can't get enough was sang by Depeche Mode 80's like! and the fields of Anfield road is the fields of Athenry
a folk song about the great Irish potato famine.

Ed question regarding the left-back situation: We are obviously going to sign a left-back but are going we going to sign 2? Who out of Konchesky/ Auerlio/ Insua do you think we will keep?

Also do you think Kelly will be playing as a centre half next season? I can see a Johnson-Kelly-Agger-? ?

Cheers eds keep up the good work
ps could people stop asking the eds to give x/ 10 on the chances of signing a list of players. Commoli himself probably couldn't give a correct answer to these type of questions! {Ed005's Note - I think one will do. We could use Wilson or Agger at left-back if needbe and we'd have plenty of cover in the middle if we signed a centre-back or even brought Ayala back. And I think Kelly may continue at right-back although you can't be sure.}
And regarding Insua/ Konchesky/ Aurleio who will be sold/ kept? {E005's Note - Konchesky will definalty go. I think Aurelio will go and I'd imagine Insua leaving as he isn't good enough.}

We agree that we need width in the team here's a option that i've not seen mentioned what about adain mcgeady
has improved no end in russia and played very well for ireland tonight i was'nt a fan
another one we sould try to get signed is mccarthy
will be top class
dont know if many will agree but we could do worse? {Ed005's Note - McGeady isn't good enough. He shone in a league with League One standard players.}

Hi All,

Things can change very quickly in football but i do know that Adam and Young are very close to signing.

Benzema was also very close in January, he is still very much a target again, things can change but he is 1 of the Marquee signings that they want in the summer.

I also know for a fact that Kenny wants four top quality strikers at the club.

There are also other targets that we are looking at but i have no idea at the moment who they are.

I think it will be a very busy summer with good times ahead for all reds.

Again i may be wrong because things change, so please do not shoot me down in flames if these do not happen.

Cheers

Macca

this is hardly rocket science i have no knowledge of who we are after but as a keen liverpool follower its obvious to me that liverpool will be looking to bring in a big name leftback and possibly a central defender as kyriagos will be going carragher is ageing and agger is injury prone.
its allso obvious charlie adam will move to liverpool in summer with poulsen going and 1 or 2 much needed widemen will be signed to give service to carroll.
and finally a 3rd striker to bolster the front line.
dont ask me who as i play the guessing game every year and hardly ever win.

am i right ed

MYSTIC RED {Ed005's Note - Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But you are along the right lines.}

dont think i'd call steve mcmanaman and icon - after he walked out on us on a bosman for the money - fowler yes not mcmanaman

Evening eds , everyone been a long time for me since my last post January 31st to be correct. Anyhow how things have changed no more laughing at our poor form and side the king has done a great job and credit to mr henry and nesv. But the most important signing in the summer needs to be kenny. I also think a bit of credit should go to comoli saurez is class.cheer for now keep up the good work eds. psv

Well i don't know what people are talking about, i think young would be a quality buy for the right price!

. . . . . . . .Reina. . . . . . .
Kelly. .Agger. .Skrtel. . johnson
. . . Meireles. Lucas. .Gerrard. .
. . Young. . .Carrol. . .Suarez.

That would be a quality team but i might buy a centre back to replace skrtel. . maybe Dann, Mexes etc.
What do you think of Young ed? {Ed005's Note - I think Young on form is a very good player. He wouldn't be my first-choice though, as I think he is inconsistent. His contribution this season for A.Villa has been good despite them struggling - with eight goals and eight assists. One can only imagine that in a better team his contribution would be more.}

Hi eds, fellow fans

I just read an article about mertesacker (cb for Bremen) and he has been reported for saying he finds a move to England 'attractive'. eds, do you think he is an realistic option and would he be a good addition to our squad? Around what price would he be available at?

thanks {Ed005's Note - He reminds me of Sami Hyypia - lacks pace but is a big strong lad and can read the game well. However I think there are more likely options.}

26 Mar 2011 19:28:30
To the poster looking for season ticket prices, mine was around £770 before the price cut off. It would have gone to around £810 after that. Im in the upper centenary, and the last time I heard there was a 10 to 15 year waiting list. This would obviously change with a new ground or the more likely scenario of redevelopment of Anfield which I heard today was a 95% chance to happen. Hope this has helped

Hi,
not a rumour as such but more of a view based on rumours i've read on here.

i think anyone looking at signing sanchez, aguero, hulk, benzema etc should forget it, not because i don't rate them but purely there prices.

we've got several areas where we need to strengthen and we've not got cities, chelsea's or the scums cash.

i would hope to get the following and think they are fairly realistic targets.

LB- baines 10m plus ecclestone
DM- sissoko swap plus 2-3m our way from juve
rw/ lw turan 12m plus insua
lw/ rw dzsudszak 16m

if the owners could stretch to it and city would sell i would love micah richards too to play as cb or rb so johnson could be used on the rw.

so the starting 11 would look like this hopefully

- - - - - - - - - carroll- - - - - - -
dzsudszak- - - - - - suarez- - - turan
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
- - - - - - - meireles- - - - - - - - - -
- - - - - - - - - - -sissoko- - - - - - -
baines- - - - - - - - - - - - - - johnson
- - - - - -richards- - -kelly- - - - - - -
- - - - - - - - - reina(c)- - - - - - - -

i know some people will be horrified to not see gerrard in the line-up but i think this season has shown just how much we've relied on him too heavily and need to use him more sparingly now to get the best out of him.

please put in the rumours section and let me know what you think, keep up the good work ed's

Hey ed002 i hope ur right bout young hope he goes to manure ders so much better den him, i wud love benzema but if he keeps scoring he mite stay at real, also wat are ur thoughts on torres i really hope he gets his 1st goal next week and help knock manure out, my thoughts on torres he did great for us and everyone moves on best of luck to him adamynwa

{Ed002's Note - Torre did very well for Liverpool and it is good to see a fan wishing him good luck. He has certainly been struggling for goals at Chelsea but I am sure they will come at some point. I expect it will be a very tough quarter final against Manchester United - particularly if they get an away goal.}

Ed005's Note - Agger, Reina, Alonso, Arbeloa among others?}

Alonso is gone, Arbeloa is gone. We are still waiting for someone to effectively replace Alonso. Arbeloa was replaced by Johnson who was not cheap. Still, our biggest problems are on the wings and that's where we seem unable to find the quality players to do the job. I do agree that we have some promising, talented 17-18 year-olds. But, who are the last players to have made it from the academy to the first team? I can't think of anyone besides Gerrard and Carragher. I know Kelly is a regular now, but he needs to complete at least one full season before we can say he has truly arrived.

26 Mar 2011 18:49:20
Ashley Young was the man of the match today. He seems to turn it up a few notches when he's surrounded by top level players. I guess it takes the burden of carrying the team off of his shoulders.
I'll be watching another one of our targets (Adam) tomorrow when Scotland play Brazil. I tip him to shine in that match. Let's wait & see.

26 Mar 2011 18:39:28
I think mexes is an overratted ball of s**te and at 28 only has few years left in him, I'd prefer if we went for someone a bit younger like the David Luiz type.what you think ed and any suggestions whod fit the bill or who would like to see come in? cheers ed {Ed005's Note - My first-choice would be Gary Cahill however I think Bolton will ask rediculous money for him. If he cost too much I'd go for Scott Dann. He's been playing really well for Birmingham, and he's a former season ticket holder here. What we need is players who want to play for us and who better than a fan?}

Cheers

Maccca

Thanks for the update. One thing I find interesting is how everyone thinks we are going to sign 2 or 3 wingers. I just don't know about that. If you look at our current talent, Id say there are 4 "front six" players nearly guaranteed to be fixtures in the starting 11 next year: Suarez, Carroll, Gerrard, Meireles. Playing those 4 guys it seems impossible we will play a 4-4-2 with 2 wingers. Gerrard and Meireles are both players who like to get forward and would be most effective with an anchor man behind them so they have freedom to get forward. In a 4-4-2 theyd both have to sit deep.

What you've said is kind of exactly what Id like to see. Another top striker and a versatile player who can play out wide when needed. We could play a 4-3-3 with 3 strikers in Carroll, Suarez and lets say Benzema. Or if we feel we need width we could put Young in the front 3. Young also has the ability play inside as one of the 3 center mifielders.

If you look at what United do, they have 3 quality strikers in Rooney, Berbatov and Hernandez. They rarely if every all play together, but they all get ample playing time. Sometimes 2 are partnered in a 4-4-2. Sometimes Berbatov or Hernandez play center forward while Rooney moves out wide. Sometimes only Rooney plays as the center forward with 2 wingers on his flanks.

I think this is what Liverpool need to be able to do. Look at our opponents and determine the best way to play and have the quality and depth of players to play in various ways.

To the clown that said why can't our scouts UNEARTH talent like nani or henandez, yes beause NANI was unearthed for about 18 million and hernandez for a cut price 8 million you idiot.
Quick question ed. I believe mexes to be average and there is not many quality centre backs out there but i like dejan lovren of lyon, one of the best defensive talents around he probably wouldn't be a viable option but have we had him scouted?

I am the idiot clown who asked the question above. I picked the wrong name in Nani, but my question had to do with our inability to find talented players who can contribute right away without breaking the bank. Meireles was a good player to add at a good price, but recently we haven't had too many of those. But here is my question to you, if I'm an idiot and a clown for asking a dumb question, what do you call someone who scans this site for weak posts in the hope of displaying his superior football knowledge? {Ed005's Note - Agger, Reina, Alonso, Arbeloa among others?}

26 Mar 2011 18:26:10
Hey ed. first time posting.I was just wondering if we had any interest in radamel falcao. I heard that we have scouted porto in the past.I just think he would be an extraordinary player for us.
Maybe at around £18-£24 {Ed005's Note - We've had Porto watched but that could be for a number of players.}

26 Mar 2011 18:23:37
Yeah and people who say Wales made Ashley Young look good. .do you think Manutd made Suarez look good? What do you say about that?

26 Mar 2011 18:21:51
I'd rather have Robert Huth than Mexes in my team.

26 Mar 2011 18:04:10
Mexes is garbage, he goes wildly into challenges and gets red cards. Cahill is a good look but not for 20m. We don't even need a CB anyways, we have Carra, Agger and Skrtel with Kelly, Wilson and Ayala coming through. Skrtel is not good enough though and he should be sold and Kelly should be third choice. A LB is the priority! Baines!

Why the hell are people saying that mexes is world class!? He'd be a good signing yes but people who are saying he is much better than cahill have clearly never watched either of them play. And btw mexes doesn't start for ROMA. Surely you don't think their subs are world class

Benzema(or Hulk), Suarez and Carroll - ST

{Ed005's Note - They want to use Benzema money for Llorente. But Benzema would probably cost about £30m now given his form.}

I don't think to many clubs other are interested in Benzema. So it could drive the price down, I think we would be able to get him for 25 million.

26 Mar 2011 16:40:58
Ed, heard anything on Gomez? Chances out of 10? {Ed005's Note - Gomez from Bayern I take it? I think Bayern will look to keep hold of him given his great form. I would say the chances are very low.}

Morning Ed(s) I have done a couple of wish lists over the past couple of months and I did one list of realistic signings but as things change daily here is my latest attempt at a realistic 11 for next season

= = = = = = =Reina= = = = = = =

Kelly= = Mussachio= = Agger= = Enrique

= = = Gerrard= Gago= Meireles= = =

= = =Young= =Carroll= =Suarez= = =

Not necessarily my chosen 11 but just what I think is possible at the moment
Also see us signing for the squad Adam, Vucinic, Wickham
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
Your thoughts please Ed {Ed002's Note - I never comment on teams.}
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
Ed 2 doesn't like to comment on teams so would you give me your opinion please Ed 5 {Ed005's Note - The starting XI looks good and is very realistic. Although I don't know whether Vucinic would represent value for money given that he would cost about £20m. Wickham would cost too much aswell in my opinion. But I like the starting XI.}

Just want to say cheers to JJ for the scouting report on the youth team posted in the banter section - and make a few other observations - a very entertaining read JJ - especially if you don't see much of the kids in action. Your assessments seem pretty accurate - but I'm sure you'd agree that a lot of them (even Suso) need to move up a level yet before they can make us stronger.

Personally I think Ngoo looks a fantastic prospect too, I've only seen him play a couple of times, but he has fantastic ability for such a gangly striker - we may have our own Lacina Traore in the ranks! Working with big Andy and Suarez would be great for his game. . . great for any young striker in fact. Big Andy will show him how to use his physique and improve his heading - in terms of Suarez, his work-rate in particular is infectious - when our average players see someone of his skill and ability running his balls off for the team, they seem to realise that maybe they should too! I read an interview with a coach at Ajax saying this is one of the reasons why he was made captain there at such a young age. I could have even sworn I saw David Ngog (trying to) make an effort to battle for the ball when he came on against Sunderland!

Promising young talent at the club, ambition to build an attacking team, money to spend - and an already decent side - I hope we kick arse for the rest of the season - and make a final assessment of what we have - then I'm gonna stick a tent by my computer -build a fire - and stay on Football Transfer Rumours for 3 months straight till the season starts! -
screaming "LIARS" at people who say "sign Turan and Honda, I watch Russian and Turkish football all the time" - Arguing about whether Rafa was any good - reading about the various sightings of superstars spotted on the side of roads with an outstretched thumb & an "Anfield" placard held over their heads - shaking my head sadly at the various "my mate works at Heathrow/ in a taxi/ in a hotel and he saw [insert favourite player here] etc etc, "says he's signing!" - reading posts from people raving about players as if they're reading from the Champ-Man wonderkids list - and sweating over the other various stresses of our lives - will Kuyt will go back to the wing? Can Glen Johnson play there? Does Pepe really want to go? Would Zidane come out of retirement if we begged him? - It's going to be feckin great! !

Ashley Young and Glen Johnson are really connecting down the right side. If what Macca said about Charlie Adam and Young being close to signing then surely good times ahead. Move Kelly instead of Carragher and let Carra coach him and the other youngsters along with being the stand-in defender for injuries as well as substitutes.
Glen Johnson RB and Ashley Young RM (Meirles can be used here at times too). Charlie Adam at the heart of midfield (Lucas rotating) and Gerrard played as an attacking midfielder (Meireles rotating). Buy a class LM and LB. Along with another top striker. SORTED! !
Reina

The players being watched are Hulk, Guarin, Bastos and Toulalan

If we can get Marveaux on a Bosman that would give us tthe opportunity to wait a year for Bal zs Dzsudzs k who would be available on a Bosman the following year. I would try to sign Gervinho for the right wing & back up striker. I think Gerrard is going to be used sparringly (scholes/ giggs) next year as he is becoming more injury prone. He will still be a key impact player though. Bojan or Hulk, Mvila, Adam & a leftback. Top 4 - Here we come!

26 Mar 2011 14:43:08
{Ed001's Note - I really can't see it happening Villa are very unlikely to sell one of their brightest talents except for ridiculous money. Though I have to admit I have never looked into the possibility purely because of that.}

They might if they get relegated. Looks quite likely ATM.

26 Mar 2011 13:20:09
I think we shall forget players like Sanchez, Hazard, Lamela, Ganso

I think these players are more realistic:
Bojan:(loan with view to permanent deal)
Benzema:(doubt it but, possible)
Adam:(All but done i think)
Young:(The same as Adam)
Baines:(if, buts and maybes)
Enrique:(50/ 50)
Akinfeev/ Lloris:(If Reina leaves!)

But if i could choose i would take Baines, Young, Wickham, Zaha, Griezman and Sanchez

I also think KK will get rid off some deadmeat:
Maxi:(Very hig wages, doubt it)
Cole:(The same as Maxi)
Poulsen:(Rubbish)
Paul konchesky(Not good enough)
Ngog(Go pump some iron, MATE)

I also think a few players will break through:
Shelvey
Spearing(maybe)
Peter Gulacsi

HarstadLFC(norway)

I don't understand why we are looking at a central defender anyways we got carra agger skrtle wilson once but in the postion and ayala which are all good defenders but don't like skrtle ummmpppppffffff it but kenny might be able to get him out of it and agger is an absaloute rock and can attack when givin the chance i understand carra gettin on but the likes of wilson and ayala could have pushed through by then

26 Mar 2011 13:12:02
Ed, how much to you think Scott Dann would cost?

Thanks
Stu {Ed002's Note - By the summer he will be in the last year of his contract - perhaps £8M-£10M.}

26 Mar 2011 12:54:54
I was thinking as Liverpool have no debt now, it was costing us 40+mil to serves that dept
If in the summer the net spend after player sales is under or around 40mil, Then FSG won't have spent any of there own cash. Is that right Ed?

Positions I think we need as a priority are

2 wingers
I think a player like young would be good, maybe not him but someone who's first position is a winger but can play as a second ST/ FW. I don't want a striker who can play as a winger even if he pacey.

1 CB
I like Dann from Birmingham, Mexes. I'd like a player like David luiz who adds something going forward

1 LB
F bio Coentr o looked good in the world cup (but lots of players that looked good in world cups and don't do it in the Prem, Salif diao, El Hadji Diouf etc) so I'm not sure who I'd pick for LB. I think Danny Wilson did ok

1 DM/ CM
I think we need a DM better defensively than Lucas. A replacement for mascherano kind of.

Players I think we should look at after the priority signs are made are

1 CM Creative
Alonso kind of player, I think Adam could do a good job here

1 FW young
willing to be 3rd choice at best but better than ngog

Emlyn .Dublin red

{Ed002's Note - You are correct about the interest costs - they were circa £40M per annum. This season will also see some unplanned one off costs - removal of Benitez, Hodgson and associated staff. There is money owed on Aquilani and money to be paid if Jovanovic or Cole leave. The club needs to be self-funding but I am sure that the owners will help out with some of their own money as well. The critical thing going forward is that the interest payments are gone.}

Hate to say this, bu when I look (Manure's) Rafael and Fabio, the Mexican, Chavs' Kakuta, I've to question the work (of perhaps lack thereof?) our scouts have been doing the past couple of years.

Those two Brazillians will develop into some special football, just like the Mexican. Kakuta is class will do great things for years to come for the Chavs and France. I ask myself: why couldn't/ can't we find such players?
The Chavs have possibly found themselves a real germ in that Pizon guy. Manure may possibly find themselves another 1 or 2 germs in those Brazillians.

All this while we keep bringing in the Ngogs.
Our scouting network in South America is effectively NON-EXISTANT. Which really is an abominable shame. Even the relationship with a club where we send some of our recruits from South America (like Manure-Twente) is a freakin' joke (Genk or whatever it is).

If we had such an arrangement with a club say in Spain, Dutch, Portugal, we would've brought Kun Aguero the year he made those comments about we, sent him there for a season or two and we take him.
But no, we f***ed it up, just like we do many deals.

We SHOULD have done what Chavs try to do now with Neymar and Gans. Pay the £20m/ £25m now than go for 3 years in Italy when he'll be worth a ridiculous £60m.

But I digress. My point is that our scouting network, in South America isn't up to scratch. And I'm not so sure if that will be properly addressed as word has it we may lean towards this "British pride/ identity" nonsense (Young, Cahill, Dann, Adam, Chamberlain etc). But hope springs eternal.

I still hope that in the not-too-distant future, we'll discover our Rafael, Fabio, Pato, Coutinho, Mexican etc down there in the south of Americas.

{Ed002's Note - I agree that Manchester United are also interested in Young and have repeatedly told folk that. Sadly many don't agree as "Macca" has told them that Young, along with Adam and Benzema are effectively done deals. I also happen to disagree over Benzema being a done deal. But what do I know?}

= = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I agree, there are no done deals not even close, as far as I know we looking at over 30 players, which ones will evolve to be targets worked on will be dependant on where we finish - in eurpa or not. It will also depend of which players leave or made to leave.
The Benzema thing does not make sense at all, he will be in demand , why would he choose us not playing any European football , and not guaranteed first team place either, where would he play, are we going to spend 35m on Carroll to sit him on the bench?
As for Young , maybe, but for some reason his stock is on the up , and although I don't think united will go for him, there is a chance dirty Harry will move for him if Bale moves on.

Ed, Im not sure Liverpool will go for another big name striker in the summer, so should they be looking at Taarabt? Im sure interest in him is high, but he would be a cheap option and a player that looks world class. He could play in the hole behind the strikers and if you've seen his skills/ goals for QPR this season he seems unstoppable, the potential to be a world beater if he can do it at a higher level.

Is there much transfer gossip about him going anywhere? I doubt Liverpool will look at him but do you think they should?

Thanks {Ed001's Note - why would he be a cheap option? QPR don't want to sell, don't need to sell and look likely to get promoted. Plus he has a real attitude problem and needs the whole team built round him to get anything from him. If we are buying him we are in trouble.}

RE "Born + genetics" comments.
Afraid it does not work like that. Genetics is a complicated thing and just because Dad was good at something does not mean that his sons will be as good. History tells us this time and time again. We all have 23 PAIRS of Chromosomes. They get split up when we form Sperm and the girls lay down their eggs. Imagine the possible combinations. . Chromosome 1A and 1B being grouped with A or B from the other 22? Add in the same from the eggs available and the fact they will have diffeent genes on. Add in the fact that genes have effects on each other so may be "masked" in one generation then reappear in a later one. A complicated business! Nurture is probably more important IMHO. Imagine playing with Robbie or Cantona as a 5 year old. . . unless you were an absolute person you'd have to improve!

How can people say 15 - 20 million is a lot for Gary Cahill, he is a premier league proven, ENGLISH, centre half who still has his best years ahead of him. I think it is very arrogant to say he's overpriced after our 35 million on Carroll (who i still think is a great buy) but the point is, you can't expect top quality players from the premier league for anything less than 15 million, go on Kenny snap him, Eden Hazard, Yann M'vila and a striker up and then lets win the league next year.

I think the player we should be going all out for is nuri sahin of dortmund. trust me when i say this, this guy is class, and soon to be world class. hes just 21 and has all the qualities zidane/ xavi/ kaka had at this tender age. fits NESV profile of a player they would sign. great talent and could easily play in the play maker role and allow stevie to play deeper. Go all out for him Kenny! !

PS Can anyone confirm about the U16's. It's what I've heard but as I'm in another country now can't keep an eye on them like i used to.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Hi JJ,

I had been trying for ages to get some info on this myself & recently heard people say the under 16's are playing great stuff.
Heard Comolli say they hammered Manure 4 - 1 recently & demolished Newcastle Utd's Under 16's away from home (5 - 1 i think).
The youths are looking really good mate to be honest.
Even if only 2 make it a season over the next 3 or 4 years it'd save us a fortune.
If Coady had just a little more pace i'd be placing bets on an England cap for him before his 21st birthday.
Think he'll still make it but no youth is ever nailed on i guess till they make the step up regularly like Kelly now for example.
Cheers,
Irish Kev.

Hey Ed, in the spirit of picking your brains I have a couple of questions regarding technical matters. Say we are strongly linked with getting "x" player and they sign a pre-contract agreement, does that mean that after their domestic league finishes they instantly become a Liverpool player or will it take a while for other reasons e.g. Visa's, fitness/ medicals etc. I'm interested to know whether there will be news from Liverpool on player signings within say a week of domestic leagues finishing for lets say Marveaux who 90% of people on here believe is/ has/ will sign a pre-contract agreement? Or whether Liverpool will remain tight-lipped until later on in the transfer market.

Also regarding wingers. Using a hypothetical, say we get Young/ Turan and/ or Dzsudszak/ other winger. With Marveaux being a backup winger, do you think having 3 wingers will be adequate because I feel if one of our "class" wingers get injured, we'll be in the same predicament. Personally I would like to see 4 wingers come in, 2 squad players and 2 starting XI players, the 4th winger I'd like to come in to strengthen the squad would be N'Zogbia, have no problem playing on both wings and also has the potential to push for a starting birth.

Your opinions would be greatly appreciated Ed.

RMD
Y.N.W.A

{Ed002's Note - Pre-contracts are not legally binding but generally will go through as soon as the window opens subject to transfer of money, registration, mediacal and visa/work permits etc. Marveaux does not need a work permit of course. There is however no rush for these to go through. Also Marveaux is not an out and out winger, he can play anywhere in midfield. As for buying four wingers, that would undoubtedly spell the end for several youngsters who would immediately seek an exit. I had rather hoped to see Liverpool trying to bring the youngsters through.}

I watched the reds reserves mini derby, the other night and I know Roberts missed a penalty, but his second half performance was full of promise. He moved the ball forward was always there for the next pass. I was told about this lad 12 mths ago and I have been watching him since with interest.While Suso, Wisdom, Coady, Flanagan, Sterling, are getting the plaudits and rightly being talked up of possible future first teamers. I think Roberts will Progress into the first team also.Mark my words he will make the step up.He reminds me of Alonzo, the way he dictates the play.I hope he turns into the real deal. He certainly has ability and promise.

Ed plse tell me why so many people want us to sign CAHILL, he is a poor , hoofer of a defender who is quickish, and strong but he aint got no positional sense and the 18m it would cost to sign him he really would be a poor signing for us in my opinion. i believe we don't need a cb as we have many in our reserves who i believe given the chance would be able to step up to the plate.

players needed

LB(eventually) (BAINES PLSE) 13M
DM (M, VILLA/ GAGO) 15M-10M
MC (SISSOKO) 12M
RW (A.JOHNSON) 22M
LW (YOUNG/ JARVIS) 13M-8M
STR (GERVINHO/ BENZEMA)12M-22M

Ihave a lb as eventually as johnson is playing quality there for kk so it is a position we have to look at but not straight away

i would like to see us start pre season with the following line up

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .REINA. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

KELLY. . AYALA/ WILSON. . . . AGGER. . . . .JOHNSON

It makes me laugh listening to these 'Rumours!'
Firstly, good work editors, You do z great job!
But seriously. . Some of these posts are totally unfounded wishlists of the top 5, 10, 20 etc young players in Europe? Of course Liverpool are 'watching' these players? Along with many more? So are UTD, Athletico, Milan, Bayern etc?
Coming on saying. . "Liverpool ins. . Turan, young, Adam, baines, Enrique, benzema. . Etc etc is almost as predictable as. . "Liverpool outs. .poulson, Insua, n'gog, blah blah blah?". .
A few months ago everyone's sources had Honda in a red shirt alongside Turan?
Could people please confirm they know f&ck all before we need to ask by signing off an exotic / shadowy pseudonym like "the phantom" or "the insider"! !"
As it happens my only source is HP chilli, but I do work in football and am a match going red. I work with journalists but thankfully am not one myself.
Aside from the well known. . I.e- arsenal bid for pep, we bid for young etc. . I do know that Adam really wants to come to Liverpool and is desperate to do well as he feels his chance may be slipping away after missing out in January, and that's sort of from the horses mouth.

January ins. .
Adam
Young
Payer
Benzema
Banega
Adam again
Greizman
Turan
Young again
Honda

Cahill

That said, great site. .

Cant understand why liverpool are looking to get rid of aquilani! A midfield of meirieles, aquilani and lucas would allow stevie g to sit in behind carrol and suarez. we would also have kuyt, adam(possibly) and cole to add a bit of versatility to the midfield. a purchase of a left/ right winger would allow any formation from a 442, 451 or 4312. the squad isn't as bad as the papers make out and a few quality signings along with a manager who isn't afraid to take chances when we are level with 20mins to go(shame on you rafa) then i don't think we will be far behind man u/ chelsea etc. Also a few promising young players should start to make the breakthrough to the first team. In my opinion, the appointment of a world class manager should be the priority as the squad we have is pretty good(under the right leadership). What do you guys think? {Ed002's Note - Aquilani does not want to play for the club.}

Morning all - A good friend of mine works for Aston Villa (in the marketing dept) and he has confimed that, as widely reported, all is not well at Villa park.

Three of the current first team squad have already told the manager and board they want to go and all have had recent written transfer requests declined - but it is only a matter of time before they go!

Interestingly, Young is not one of them - this is because he has already 'signed / committed' to join Liverpool, with the £15m deal being agreed in January.

The 3 looking to leave are Warnock, Agbonlahor and Dunne - 2 of which (Warnock & Agbonlahor), I think would be good signings for the Reds. - Maybe not first team 'starters' week in week out, but good squad players - Whats everyones view?

Finally, he also mentioned Bent is not at all popular at the club, and has been the cause of many of the issues - Maybe a cheeky bid in the summer??

RE: Kings Dock project £30 million cash + everton get £400million stadium back in 2000

So how do you explain Liverpool the city giving everton the chance of getting a £400million stadium for £30million in cash. The whole deal was approved and all Everton had to do was come up with £30m in cash. They managed to mess it up. But that deal was first offered to lfc back in the late 90's, but we wanted planning permission for Stanley Park instead. So it happened in the past history fact. So i know this kind of deal is possible. Plus LFC gives liverpool council a lot of money in taxes t. city visitor numbers + tourism + supporter base benefits liverpool the city. Plus the council finding 250million would be easier than us going into debt again

LFC give more to liverpool than they take. Isnt it time the city built them a new stadium. {Ed005's Note - You've got a few facts wrong there. The King's Dock project was actually a £300m project, not a project involving a £400m stadium. The stadium part of the project was costing £150m and Everton had to pay £30m for a 50% stake in the stadium project. So they wouldn't have got the full benefits of having a stadium which they own, meaning they wouldn't have reaped in the potential revenue increases. That deal is completly and utterly different to a club getting a brand new stadium built for them wouldn't you say? Plus, the project involved an area on top of a housing complex - and Goodison was going to be used for retail development. It wasn't to solely benefit Everton but to benefit the City and community as a whole. Buiding a new stadium and giving it to LFC for their benefit for free is totally different and simply won't happen at all. Completly different to what you intially proposed. Liverpool FC contributes a lot to the City - but Liverpool itself is a historical City which, aside from football, has its own legacy and would attract tourists etc. anyway! Liverpool wasn't once named the European Capitol of Culture for nothing was it?}

What are the odds (rating 0-10) of young, adam, micah richards, turan, benzema? if lfc and chelsea bid fr turan, where do u think he will go? {Ed005's Note - Turan has stated on numerous occassions that he wants to join Liverpool and that it is his dream to come here, I think he is a full blown fantatic and has a Liverpool crest on his floor or something along those lines. I think he'd come here and it baffles me as to why we haven't moved for him. We'd get someone dying to be here.}

pretty positive stuff! do u think we will bid for him then? i don't see why we wouldnt? what about the rest? {Ed005's Note - I'm not sure, Ashley Young seems to be our top target for the wings. Although Dalglish did mention Turan to Hodgson as a suggestion so he clearly rates the guy. The problem was that he wasn't available in January but will be in the Summer so I'm hoping we do bid for him. As for the rest, Young and Adam seem very likely. Man City don't want to sell Richards so it doesn't look as if that will happen. We made contact about Benzema however the player himself wants a clause stating he gets regular first-team football which won't happen. And he is on form now so one would question whether R.Madrid would sell him - but they want Llorente and initially planned on using money from selling Benzema to fund the deal.}

RE: I assume you are taking the mick with this post. Funnily enough your IP has you in London, so are you one of the London Reds

Well LFC fan base is international. I don't see why lfc is stuck in one location and always getting a bad deal from the council. The Club gives the town of Liverpool more than the town of Liverpool have given to the club. 40 million world wide fans. Isn't it time the city built lfc a new stadium {Ed005's Note - I'm sure the regional and national response to the council building a new stadium for Liverpool would be extremly negative. Firstly, many would question why Everton weren't getting one built for them, or even why there would be no groundshare. And a groundshare would be forced upon us anyway. And how would the council spending that much money on a stadium benefit the city as a whole? You have to remember that not all Liverpudlians are football/Liverpool fans. Also, what would happen with revenues? Are the council going to spend potentially £250-300m on a stadium for nothing in return? It makes no sense whatsoever for any council to do that. It would only benefit LFC and the LFC fans.}

Can't we hire some half-decent scouts who will unearth some talented players la Nani (without the antics), Hernandez or better can't we develop some local talents and keep our money to get that one rare talent that no-one seems willing to take a chance on (Suarez)? We need a couple of wingers with good speed and a good delivery. Can't we get those without blowing all our money competing with every major club out there.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Sorry, but whoever said this hasn't had a look at the reserves or youth set-up obivously. If you have then you'd know that the resevres and youth are briming with real talent (both from home and abroad). The scouts are doing fantastic re youth. Now there will always be player we don't bring through that we wish where at our team but believe me there are going to be many from other teams wishing they had half the talent in their ranks as in ours. The problem with scouting players already in their first team is that everyone will know about them already, however our youth is very strong.

These are my views on some of the talent we have coming through, I know not all will make it, some will fall by the way side, some will not make that final big step and unfortunately some may get injured (though I really hope not) but get ready to make up the chants in the future for some of these guys. I'm not going into some of the more well known reserves (pacheo, spearing etc) as they've already had good exposure and if you don't know about them then there is no hope for you:

Suso (17): Spainish, Att midfield. Wanted by half the teams in Europe (real and barca to name but two). Signed as a youth from Cadiz(sp). An excellent passer of the ball and a wicked shot on him. Has been played on the wings but best position IMHO is just behind the strikers in midfield. Opposition defenders shouldn't let him have any time on the ball because when they do he seems to either find the net or a pin point pass.

Wisdom (17):English, Defender. Came from Bradford at the age of 14 and has constantly been playing with those older than himself. A old fashioned defender, very good in the air, strong in a tackle, good with his head, but even more than that he shows a maturity in his play, positionally good, seems to read the game well, not lacking in the pace department and most of all a giant of a boy ( probabbly will be a colossus (sp) of a man). To top it all he can play the ball really well, looks quite comfortable with the ball at his feet. Also as captain of the reserves has a nature knack for leadership which is always desirable esp in a defender. Have high hopes for Andre.

Ince (18): English. Left midfield/ wing. Son of Paul Ince, yet is a very different player to his father, very fleet footed, Trickery and pace are Tom's footballing characteristics. Is equally at home playing on the left wing or as a support striker. Sometimes can be selfish on the ball but overall his play can unlock defences and can be completely unplayable when on form. Recently had a very good loan period at Notts (where his dad was manager), but back at Kirby now and playing very well.

Flanagan (18): English. full (right) back. This Liverpool lad loves a tackle and I mean LOVES a tackle, would run through a brick wall and come out with the ball on the other side. However, don't think that he is just a one trick pony, the boy can whip in a cross, and plays with a passion for the team. While he may not do all the flicks and tricks what he does do he does very, very well, he tackles, gets the ball and plays it simple but well. Again, hoping for things from John.

Robinson (17): English. Full Back. Liverpools youngest every player made his debut on last day of the 2009-2010 season when he came on as a sub for Ryan babel. Like Flanagan, Jack is a hard tackling full back. He also seems to have a footballing intelligence which marks him out as a possible star of the future. Carra said of him recently "I've heard a lot of positive things about him. I wasn't even in the youth team when I first went full-time and he was a regular at 15 so it shows you he has something about him." High praise indeed then, hopefully he will continue to flourish.

Coady (17): Central midfield/ defence. This young general has drew comparsions with another well know Liverpool legend, Stevie G. I'm not saying that he is another Stevie G, I'm more pointing out the potential this lad has. A combative midfielder with a wicked shot on him, the current captain of the U18's has the honour of being the only English player in the last 17 years to lift a major international tourament trophy when he led the English U17's to European glory in 2010. A box to box midfielder with composure on the ball and strenght in the tackle, this liverpool born lad exhibits the qualities that are needed to go all the way to the top, a recent call up to the first team for a unused sub birth in the Europa cup may have given him hunger to push all the way to be a future tip for captain of the first team. It is still a way to go but would not be surprising.

Sterling (16): Foward/ winger. I would love to be more precise about Raheems best position but I honestly don't know what it is, so I'm going for left wing. That should say enough about the potentail this lad has. Raheem became a twitter sensation after a couple of goals in the FA youth cup ( 5 out of the 9 goals scored againest southend utd). However knowledgable football fans knew about him long before his exploits at Anfield that day. Bought from QPR for an intial £600,000 increasing to £5,000,000 dependant in appearence etc it could well be the best piece of business LFC has done in some while. The boy has not only one of the main attriubes for a wide man (pace, and pace in abundance) but he has the skills and trickery to go with it. Raheems main strenght is that the opposition doesn't know how to deal with him, push him out to the sidelines and he can whip in a great cross, and I mean a great cross, push him to the middle and his passing is fantastic, or finally try to isolate him up there by himself and he'll shoot for goal (which he has a pretty good eye for). Still, slight in build he seems to jump round tackles but to make the big step up I believe he will have to bulk up somewhat but if he can then proper superstardom is not beyond Raheems reach ( not bigging him up here or anything!).

I know I haven't even mentioned half the players at the youth, Brad Smith, - a NZ full back, Adjouren (sp) midfield with v good composure on the ball, A Morgan- V good prospect, goal poacher in the extreme (really rate him), Ngoo - good forward etc. I'm sure lots will say I've left out many but these are the players I think will have the Kop buzzing for years

I've also heard that the U16's make the u18's look bad so I can't wait to see them come through.

So all in all, I am thinking our scouts aren't doing so bad a job. Yes I'd like us to find messi playing in an alley way but your dismissal of what they have achieved in potentail through the youth is a bit harsh. As I said, not all may make it but if 2 out those few I mentioned could then I'll be grateful.

JJ

PS Can anyone confirm about the U16's. It's what I've heard but as I'm in another country now can't keep an eye on them like i used to.

Why don't Liverpool council build us a stadium. LFC basically make the town what it is. In truth, LFC could go anywhere within UK a still get decent crows. Most of LFC fans are from London. If footballers are born + genetics. So Why are we not seeing more star names of football coming through the premiership levels. eg kasper schmeichel with leeds. Anton Ferdinand, Rio Ferdinand and Les Ferdinand. I can't think of anyone else. Jamie + Harry Rednapp or Frank Lampard + Senior Frank Lampard. Shouldnt their be a new generations of English born foreign national players coming through the English game. If Cantona son was born in england and him and his family lived here for 20 years ect. Why are we not seeing great new English born players. All these Ex players have childern + bornin in uk + connections to premiership clubs + genetics. In the end shouldn't the English national team be stronger for it.

Afellay looked pretty good today. . and Kuyt was also in the score sheet. He should always play upfront with a good striker.

Hey ed who is most likley to be our left back after the summer, Enrique, baines, coentreo or someone else? {Ed005's Note - I don't think it will be Coentrao, thankfully. For me, Enrique is the most likely as he will have a year left on his deal in the Summer and with interest from bigger clubs he may opt for a move. Baines would be my choice - although I can't see Everton selling to us. But the bitters are broke - perhaps it is possible.}

Stadium design + Noise. Why don't architects ever think about sound of stadium + atmosphere that will be created by the fans. The fans + noise within the stadium. we have noticed that crowds/ fans trend to be less noisy these days and they seem to wait for teams to do something before the place comes alive. Artificial noise enhancements would really help change the feel of a game

Regarding the stadium mock up designs ; I am with the Ed on caring less for the architectural merits of the designs and more about what goes on inside the stadium. Less flash, more noise !
But what was notable, was that the designers suggested only a 50,000 re-development was within easy financial reach.
A 60,000 re-development would not provide value for money (compulsory purchase etc), and be of a similar price to a whole new stadium being built.
And these latter 2 x choices would be circa £250m.
Which would take us back into hock again. Big time !

while i understand your argument i think the new stadium is the best option while the re-developments look good they would also meen a disrupted stedium for 2-3 years which would incur a loss of revenue. the new stadiums naming rights can be sold like arsenal did and cover a huge slice of the costs then the loans can be offset by futre season ticket sales and all the while still generating maximum revenue from anfield.

Cristian Ansaldi has emerged as a possible target for Kenny dalgliesh

Personally i think he is a good versatile defender, he can play right back or left back.

I think man city were interested in him last summer

Have you heard anything about it Ed?
Dan

{Ed002's Note - There are clubs awaiting his availability on a free at the end of the year. There has been interested but I don't know if the is anything firm from Liverpool.}

Cheers Ed002, I read into the ansaldi story, his agent is trying to drum up some interest (so I have heard) the only thing that stopped him moving to city was a work permit so city went for kolarov instead
his contract expires december 2012, and right now it's meant to be us and Athletico Madrid that are the only potential interested buyers

Its going to be a very interesting and busy summer transfer window for lfc. kenny wants exactly what the fans want and that's to clearout all the dead wood In the squad. We don't have to mention names. we know who they are. No doubt we will have a squad capable of winning the league next year. LfcscoutYnwa

Hi ed, can you explain the financial fair play rule? When does it start? And what's the punishment if a team breaks them? Thanks for the time ed, great site! Keep it up! {Ed005's Note - Not too sure, but I think clubs are required to break even over the period of 2010, 2011 and 2012 and if they haven't, they will be excluded from the 2012/13 European competitions.}

Ed have you seen the 3 possible designs for the new ground? One is a new stadium and 2 are what a redeveloped Anfield would look like. I'd prefer redevelopment of Anfield but the Stadium looks pretty impressive too. If you or anyone wants to have a gander go to Sports-Stadia.co.uk.

Blair Mayne YNWA {Ed005's Note - I seen them Blair. The new stadium looks very impressive and IF we were to move grounds I'd be happy with that as our new ground. The expansion looks nice and the re-development is alright. But those aren't any plans Henry and co. have made. I think they were made prior to Henry coming in or something.}
