Great performance today,

Teamwork was top notch and obviously Coutinho, Henderson and Sturridge taking the plaudits

Just a couple of things

1) People saying we do not need Suarez - It is quite right in saying that sometimes he does break down attacks and other times is too greedy but he also contributes moments of brilliance that enable us to score. It must be noted that he's a game changer, so when its a dull match and goals are hard to come by we need players like him who can produce to spectacular out of the blue - not every game will be as easy as today

2) Coutinho looks far sharper down the middle than on the left, Probably because he is less isolated and he can drift alot. Luckily for us he is extremely versatille and can play well out wide because otherwise we still have room for improvement on our wingers

3) Did anyone else notice Lucas? last few games he's been a little poor, clumsy and slightly off the pace. Today however, he was alert and adept at reacting to any attacks that came his way. Personally I believe that even though at times he can be caught out, when he plays well the team has the perfect balance and a clean sheet looks inevitable, as it did today

There just a couple of things I wanted to share of my own opinions of today

Keep up the good work lads!

PS: Delighted for Borini - The smile on his face showed just how much it meant to him to score, as did it for all fans watching!

Regarding Lucas who had a good game today, there was one moment during the match where he received the ball (from Reina I think) unaware of the Newcastle players around him and was forced into an error - on another day that could have been a mistake leading to a goal.

I understand the philosophy Brendan wants to implement and so do our opponents - which is why playing around with the ball at the back can lead to mistakes. Either we get better at doing so or play more possession football away from our own box!

Anyone saying we don't need Suarez could be right, you never know who might replace him. But don't forget he scored 30 goals. I'd bet anyone he will get 30 next season, even with missing the first 6 games.

Longtime.

Assessing the squad:

Reina: getting back to good form, we should definitely keep him.

Jones: Decent enough back up

Gulacsi: Not seen much of him, perhaps we need a new young keeper.

Johnson: Top four quality, suspect at the back at times, but is England's finest.

Kelly: will be fit soon, which is good news, has shown he is international quality at right back, but can also play centre half.

Wisdom: was terrific when we needed him in the first half of the season, a great prospect.

Flanagan: good prospect, but down the pecking order. A loan may help his development

Agger: had a shaky few games, but is one of the league's top defenders.

Skrtel: was great last season, but out of favour this term. Perhaps he doesn't fit Rodger's playing style. Likely to be sold.

Carragher: brought back in to shore up the defence to great effect, but will be retiring in the summer. Will need to be replaced.

Coates: didn't adapt last year, hasn't done this year. Has potential but perhaps not in this league. Likely departure.

Sama: Good young prospect. Maybe a loan next season will benefit him.

Enrique: had a strong season, perhaps though we need cover for him, although once Kelly is back then Johnson will be another option.

McLaughlin: another young prospect. like Sama, perhaps a loan will benefit him.

Lucas: great to have him fit as he gives Gerrard and co the freedom to create and attack. perhaps though we need an additional player in his position as he is the only player of his ilk in the squad, and when he's injured he's difficult to fill in for.

Gerrard: showed that he's still got it with nine goals and as many assists in the league this season. But he's not getting any younger so perhaps we need another pair of legs in midfield to take the pressure of him.

Allen: you'd expect more from a player who cost £15million, but remember he started off well and has played much of the season carrying an injury so don't write him off for a good second season - he's got age on his side too.

Henderson: has really grown into the team this year, if he continues his improvement next year the £16m or so we spent on him might not look quite so absurd after all.

Shelvey: had a good spell in the team before christmas, earning an England debut along the way, but his form since then has greatly dropped. He's a talented player, but Rodgers must decide whether he's good enough for a place in a team that wants to challenge for a top four finish. A loan or sale may very well be on the cards.

Coady: has potential. Maybe a loan will benefit the player.

Coutinho: £8million looks like a steal after his start to life in a red shirt. Great prospect. Great player.

Downing: really has improved under Rodgers this year, may have earned another season at Anfield. Although he hasn't set the world alight so another wideman ould arrive this summer.

Sterling: his superb start to the season earned him international recognition with England. was taken out of the firing line towards the end of this season, but at 18 he's not only a future star for the club, but also his country.

Suso: did well at the start of the year and has proved himself as a pontential future star. However he's currently down the pecking order so the 19 year old could be loaned out next season.

Assaidi: has shown flashes of talent, but Rodgers clearly doesn't see him in his plans. Will surely leave in the coming months.

Ibe: certainly has potential.

Suarez: put aside the controversy - he's one of Europes best forwards and we should help him get past his problems and continue to dazzle the Anfield faithful.

Sturridge: can be selfish at times, but we need that. He can get us at least 15 goals a season. It looks like £12million well spent.

Borini: has been horribly unlucky. Yes he hasn't been brilliant, but he's joined a new league and a string of long term injuries haven't allowed him to adapt. Remember he's only 22 and we will see what player he really is next season.

Yesil: injuries have hampered his first season at Anfield, but he is a player with potential to be a great striker in the future.

Morgan: highly rated at Anfield, but could be loaned out again next season.

Sinclair: England under-17 international, a great prospect.

Players out on loan:

Carroll: has been in fantastic form for the Hammers at the business end of this season. We have struggled when facing physical sides this season and have often failed to break them down - so the debate is open as to whether Big Andy deserves a chance under Rodgers - especially with Suarez missing the first part of next season.

Spearing: he has been named player of the season for Bolton this year in the Championship, so at 24 perhaps he has found his level.

Robinson: maybe a good prospect, but not ready for first team football with Liverpool. Maybe another loan next season.

Pacheco: can't see a future at Liverpool for him.

Wilson: the same as Pacheco

N'goo: has been good at Hearts. but that was in the SPL - not ready for the first team yet.

So what does Rodgers need to do this summer to make this top 6/7 side into a top four team?

I think our first priority this summer should be replacing Jamie Carragher and also probably Skrtel and Coates. So we'll need to sign two new defenders this summer.

We also lack a physical presence in midfield, so we need to adress that and I feel we could also do with adding a creative element to the midfeild - another playmaker, whether it's a wideman or a no. 10 - or both; a midfielder who can offer goals.

Even with Suarez missing the next nine games or so, I feel we could do with another attacker. Successful teams have four strikers - look at United this year and City last season. Plus for most of this season we've had to make do with just two strikers, and at times just one (and at one time none at all). I honestly think Carroll could be the answer; wer'e unlikely to get any more than £10m from West Ham or Newcastle, so rather than cutting our losses we should give him a chance as he offers us another dimension and he's shown he does know where the back of the net is recently. So rather than forking out another fee for say Remy etc - I'd say we should give the player we spent £35m on one more chance to prove himself in our side.

Irishdom

I certainly admire your strong support and admiration of our players but I have to say I think you're being a little generous and naive in your 'summarys'.
For example, you heap praise onto our defenders in your post yet our defence has been very poor this year.
I'm not saying you're wrong, I just think you've been a bit generous.

Very generous re Johnston he has looked disinterested and out of form for awhile to my mind.

I agree with most of your analysis. For me we need experience and character at the back and in midfield. Williams (12m), Diakite (Free) and young CB are needed to replace Carra, Skrtel & Coates. Ideally one can play FB too - I believe Diakite can also operate at RB. Alonso would allow us to control midfield and he knows the club so would hit the ground running but we have SG and JA covering that position. Therefore I'd imagine its a DM that we will go for, Iturra (Free)? Downing stays for me and I'd think we'll follow up interest in Ince who will get plenty of games, score goals and compete with Stewie. Cover at LB and a young GK are desirable areas to cover but not essential. I would loan out Wisdom, Robinson, Shelvey & Suso to PL sides or top Champs teams as all of them have shown they have the talent but need games. In short I think we can improve the team and squad without spending silly money this summer. Williams, Diakite, Iturra, Ince, Ilori and players like Rose and Alex McCarthy (loan back) would cost us 30-35m and selling Carroll, Skrtel, Coates, Spearing and some of the younger fringe players will balance the budget.

Puzzeled its not that have been poor, they seem to let us down in important games, we are still up there with clean sheets.

second top scorers and third in clean sheets.

I don't think that I was generous at all to our defenders: I said that Skrtel and Coates will be sold as they aren't good enough - I also pointed out Johnson, Agger and Enrique's flaws this season. Our defence hasn't been up to scratch this year, but the very meaning of my post was to point out where we need to improve (I said at the end of the post that we need two new defenders).

A lot of people have probably been pondering Gerrards replacement of the past couple of seasons and I know we have a lot of talent waiting to come through the reserves,
But for now ladies and gentlemen I give you coutinho!
If this kid carries on running the midfield like that he has a very very bright future at Liverpool. 20 years old and ability like that means in a few years he will be a very dangerous player, keep hold of him at all costs! Other teams will be sniffing around him sooner rather than later.

Well done to the lads today on a whole though they where all superb from what I saw, good to see us coping without Suarez and also a glimmer of something to look forward to I. They get some consistency for next season.

YNWA

Coutinho is class no doubt, but not a replacement for Gerrard. that's crazy talk. First, they are completely different players, both in physicality and playing styles. Second, Gerrard has been a pillar at this club long enough to make him not so easily replaced. He's more than his consistently great performances for the team. He's a leader, role model, and true professional. They don't make many of those anymore if you hadn't noticed. No knock on Coutinho because I look forward to seeing this kid bloom with the club. It's just an apples and oranges argument.

Coutinho is not Gerrards replacement, Rossiter is, Stevies got 3 more years to ease him into the team. Jordan might not need that long though.

Are sure about Rossiter? He lacks pace for me, in a similar way to Shelvey.

After a week of ****. We win. 0-6. ,.

The king is dead. Long live the lion king.

Well done lads.

Eds fellow reds, just watching MOTD we were on 1st, yes that right 1st. and how good was the pout on Alan shearer face. priceless

I watched the match with my father in law and said at the end 'I bet we still don't get on MOTD first' :)

I agree with you Shearer was definately p***ed off about Newcastles performance but at least he was honest about how good the Reds were. So some credit to him.

Hey lfc fans

Good start from Liverpool. the hunger was there and that made the difference!
Tough to win away in any game and to score 6 was justified!

Also. Why is it that an everton manager or player has to analyze Liverpool on tv! Soo annoying havin phil neville on bbc1

Anyway good game today. Hopefully our summer signings are quality

Red lobster

It was simple pointless having him there.

27 Apr 2013 22:57:51
Just back from the match, Coutinho take a bow son absolute magic today, as Brenda would say "Outstanding"

Best player on the park, can't wait for next season fantastic.

Thank Liverpool for beating the 0-6 well done. good luck for the nex few games. Sunderland fan

27 apr 2013 22:52:23
hello fellow reds,
we have to win all three matches as well as come 6th (ahead of everton) to do marginly better than the last two seasons.

last 3 games: everton (h) fulham (a) and qpr (h)

last 3 seasons:
year w d l g. fsg g. a pts pos
09/10 18 9 11 61 35 63 7th
10/11 17 7 14 59 44 58 6th
11/12 14 10 14 47 40 52 8th

12/13 14 12 9 67 42 54 with 3 games

so we come to the time to ask ourselves, are we making progress?
discuss

ali g

Took us till December to get out the bottom half this season after the shambles at the end of last season. Since then we've been not far off top 4 standard in terms of results. Therefore yes, definitely progress

The most important thing to take from this is the fact that we have lost less games this season than the others. So if we are turning defeat into draws, hopefully it shouldn't take too much more to start turning those draws into victorys

27 Apr 2013 22:28:31
Got to say today Henderson and Coutinho where different class when coutinho signed people said his final pass was not the best but today his final ball was unbelievable Henderson had a stormer he mixed desire and passion with skill and technique fantastic team performance Sturridge, Lucas and Gerrard also had good games it gives us positives to take into next season although I would say Rodgers needs to think carefully about replacing Carragher because it is really important we don't get it wrong because when carragher come into the back 4 we have looked a lot more organized so we need to get someone who we know can do carraghers job now not in a couple of years also for the last few games of the season I would put wisdom at right back Johnson has not really played well all season but has got worse over the last couple of games
LFC Liam

Wake up will you! We have been equally as poor with the great Jamie Carragher as we were without him. Face facts, we have been defensively poor the whole year, with Carragher or without him. Surely everyone can see this.

27 Apr 2013 22:26:11
Eds because we won 6-0 today, is there any chance we might get awarded a Champions League place?

27 Apr 2013 20:17:10
There is our silver lining! Absolutely magnificent, no words can describe this superb performance, progress has been made clearly. FANTASTIC, it was a joy to watch.
Continuo is a magician, beautiful passes and reading of the game, Sturridge well done and Hendo.
A blessing in disguise maybe, that we do not have Suarez so the team can play collective beautiful football like this.
I am delighted, ed001 where are you have not spoken to you in ages, how is your daughter did you watch this match?
Happy end to a miserable week.
Coutinho is the bargain of the decade.

27 Apr 2013 22:10:00
Things are definitely improving. I so want Rodgers to succeed, he has done well, stuck to his beliefs and kept working hard. He has made two brilliant signings in Coutinho and Sturridge. The energy in this young team is brilliant, and I can only see it getting better.

27 Apr 2013 22:04:52
Anyone else noticed that when are 'star' player is out we seem to play better. I remember when Steve G was out and we played some fantastic stuff. Anyway great result.

27 Apr 2013 22:01:54
will Liverpool keep andy carroll next season still only 24 and never given a chance by rogers look at henderson now! we could mess up by selling him when he's still so young

Carroll isn't part of BR plans. The reason he left is he didn't want to be a squad player and the plan b that everyone seems to want. He does not fit the style of game we play. Why can't people see that?

27 Apr 2013 22:20:14
Coutinho reminds me of Kenny dalglish the little dinky passes that he sees are awesome also he sees a pass that can open up a defence

27 Apr 2013 22:20:02
We were class today but Newcastle were equally poor. I don't think we should get carried away with this result. I have sat in the stands watching us get out played and out muscled by stoke, lose to West brom home and away along with a really emabarrasing performance against Southampton away

Couthino had a brilliant game, some of his vision was second to none but against the likes of Chelsea he was completely in effective - taken off at half time having being nulified by the Chelsea defence, they gave him no space or time on the ball.

For me, the big test will be against the bitters in two weeks time!

great result today but let's keep our feet on the ground!

P. S Why can't we press teams like we did today!

Nicky D

Any chance of Fernando returning home?
#bringnandohome

I don't want the useless high paid waste of space back. wouldn't give 5mil for him. On that not i'd also like to get rid of suarez. he is a liability. who cares if your one of the best in the world if your suspended 5-10 games every season. Cash in when the goings good. 40/50milsee ya later.

Spender, can you hear me spender, your team took a hell of a beating

Kopendfan, please show some class, we don't rub salt into wounds. Bob Paisley and Shankly had a simple motto, win in style but win with humility.

We don't need to sink to the level of the bitters, get a grip

hi eds just simple things we have to do next season. buy:cb (alderwield+lovren)+lb (diagne)+dm (diame/claudio yacob)+rw (tom ince/scoot sinclair/menez)+lw (mertens/tello/payet)

sell:suarez+skrtel+selvey+spearing

the money from sell+20m from owner. more than possible.

27 Apr 2013 20:57:13
Luis who!

27 Apr 2013 20:56:01
More points than last season already. Definitely an improvement in my eyes. Hendo, coutinho and Sturridge quality. Please let's hope Carra stays on another season.

Lets hope Carragher doesn't change his mind to retire. The truth is, which many LFC fans refuse to see, is that Carragher, along with others, has been a major part of our poor defensive displays this season. Defence is our achillies heel. I wouldn't be disappointed to see Johnson make way for Kelly or Wisdom next season, truth be told, they are both better defenders than Johnson.

27 Apr 2013 20:55:46
great result today quick question does anyone know the last time we scored a goal from a corner? mick dublin

Mick, our set pieces are woeful, you would not see the likes of it in the Phoenix Park on a Sunday Morning

Tottenham away maybe? Where lennon smashed it into bales face and went back in the net! Unlucky in that game, felt we deserved ghe win there that night

Ian the red

27 Apr 2013 20:39:10
I told you sturridge and co would step up.
So many positives from today. Hendo looking like justifying that price tag, borini finally grabbing a goal, our 2 winter signings doing the business. Newcastle where poor yes but Liverpool always seem to play world class when we are like a cornered animal, we come out fearless and fighting.

On another note we have scored more goals than anyone but united this year in the league. That's not bad considering we had a striker shortage crisis right up until January.
Defence has to be the priority in the summer. Also if Suarez goes It would be great if we replaced him with a good left winger (or left sided striker, whatever) and stick coutinho central in the classic number 10 position with suso as back up.

27 Apr 2013 20:33:57
I said this everyday last week. Suarez is wasteful and breaks down our attacks. I suppose people will agree with me now and say "i always knew the rest of the squad were capable". that's newcastles biggest home loss in Prem history. We will be fine next year with or without Suarez. I told you all without Suarez the goals would be spread more and others could play their own game. Well done Borini btw on your first goal! Haters will still want you sold.

YNWA! (Adam)

It's just one game Adam, I wouldn't get too carried away, we played really well today but sooner or later we are going to miss a World Class striker like Suarez.

So right adam all them 22 goals he wasted sell him now eh if he played today instead of downing say we would have scored about 9 they were woeful you could have drove a bus through them appreciate luis a bit more its nice we can play and win without him but we need all the great players we have to stay if were going to challenge again

Adam, I guess we will wn the title with this team next year then will we? I'm also assuming that when we drop points over our last three games, you will be one of the many wishing Suarez was playing, and crying about how much we need him and miss him.

27 Apr 2013 20:33:36
Predictions as to who you think will win the 2nd set?

El Pi**edolero

27 Apr 2013 20:29:18
Eds, do the team on top of the fair play table get Europe?
I'm asking this because we are 2nd on that table and as Arsenal is 1st and in Europe, can we get Europe?
Cheers! {Ed002's Note - Try the search function please.}

27 Apr 2013 20:15:36
hi eds, we need two CB, two wingers and a DM. selling suarez+selvey+skrtel+20m (from owner) we can get THESE FIVE PLAYERS.

Is think a wing back is needed glen and Enrique need competition.

27 Apr 2013 20:09:49
Well, what a great performance, very happy right now. Although, we can all agree we have had a bit of a disjointed season 1 thing has to be about Rodgers: Before Rodgers we struggled to score goals. Under Rodgers we score goals.
Of course our team still needs work but there is one certain positive for this season.

27 Apr 2013 20:52:46
And only city have had more clean sheets. Just need consistancy and we will be good next season

Tough week for the Reds and the team has to step up to the mark and by god did they. loved the balance in the team!

All players need to be applauded but Mr. Coutinho. You have it all my young friend. You may be slight in stature but you bring that brazilian samba brilliance which we have lacked for years!

A football brain with a heart of a lion and was unlucky not to score himself.

Great victory and delighted for Rodgers and the staff.

Keep up that intensity and pace for the rest of the season now.

Come on you redmen!

Mikey LFC

Totally agree

27 Apr 2013 20:01:19
Forget erikson. couthinos the man. lucas had a cracker as well.

Exactly, why do we need to fork out 20 mil on Eriksen, when we have a very, very good number 10 in Coutinho? Coutinho is a number 10 if I have ever seen one.

27 Apr 2013 20:01:13
hi eds, I like to make cash by selling suarez 35m+carrol14m+selvey 07m + skrtel 08m=total 64m. sturidge can make the things what was done by suarez. with this money we can rebuild our team for cl place challenge next year. toby alderweild+van rijj+a DM+dries mertens/tello+rw+a stiker will be available with the money.

We need a strong squad, we only need to replace winger assaidi 2 defenders skrtl/quates and we need to decide if shelvey is ready or not if not we need another midfielder. essential is that we buy a worldclass cb next to agger and a wordclass winger so downing can became a squadplayer. if the owners give 20mil + carroll/skrtl/quates/assaidi maybe shelvey we could have 50mil to spend that should be enough for 4 players Malta

27 Apr 2013 19:59:56
France 0-6 England. Haha! Good to see u stump those French lot. With a run of games, Sturridge could become class. Love the way he comes to link play from midfield.

Only problem with him is consistency of performance

27 Apr 2013 21:48:16
Consistency comes by playing regularly. He's been creating as well as scoring goals. He's played great against the 'big' teams, scoring fantastic goals. Deserves credit. He came to play.

27 Apr 2013 19:55:07
I don't like to be negative but Henderson is streets ahead of Allen. Furthermore for the first time in a few years Liverpool have done really well in the transfer market with Sturridge and Coutinho.

Maybe if you we're just patient? Allen more impressive in his first season than Hendo in his. Allen also carrying an injury. let's just accept both are still learning the game and are good players.

27 Apr 2013 19:54:22
That was the best way to silence the critics with a much needed win away from home, well done guys you can all take a bow! What a player Coutinho will be in the future and so pleased for Borini.

27 Apr 2013 19:53:35
Just yesterday I was saying what I thought of Henderson and today he plays a blinder! Sorry Jordan KEEP IT UP!

27 Apr 2013 19:52:32
What a result!

27 Apr 2013 19:48:19
hi eds, we are shouting for a atacking midfildes through the recent months. but coutinho is superb behind stiker. we have suso and texerria. why we need eriksen. to warm bench?

You can't have enough attackers!

I'd rather we sign Siem DeJong than Erikson good hard working skilful midfielder, a lot like Gerrard.

27 Apr 2013 19:47:41
What an excellent signing Coutinho is proving to be! The team played very well. I hope we can carry this momentum forward to the remaining games. Congratulations to fellow Reds.

27 Apr 2013 19:47:32
Sunderland fan here well done today lads you where brilliant I knew jordan Henderson would pay off for you get in there!

27 Apr 2013 19:44:56
What an amazing 6-0 win. Coutinho was deservedly the MOTM. But I've got to praise Henderson. I don't know what happened to him, maybe because he is a Sunderland old boy, maybe because he was affected by the Suarez biting saga, but he was phenomenal.

His workrate, his passion and his determination was immense. He didn't stop running, winning the ball back relentlessly after his teammate's gave the ball away even when 4 or 5 goals up. His passing was crisp and he didn't just pass it backwards or sideways aimlessly. His off-the-ball movement has improved in recent weeks and he deserved his 2 goals, although the 2nd was fortunate. He really plays with his heart on his sleeve.

I'm so made up for his improvement this season and he just might be Gerrard's long term replacement. He just needs to work on his range of passing and his footballing vision.

YNWAillyas

Henderson seems to link up very well with Coutinho when going forward.
Could be our future captain!

Magnificent performance! The whole team should take a bow! Absolute class from Coutinho, my MOTM and Hendo! So pleased for Sturridge and great first league goal for Borini! Coutinho is going to be massive for this club!

Hi there Liverpool lads, Newcastle fan in peace.
great display today by your lads, well played i'm still a bit raw after what I witnessed but you deserved it, in the end I was relieved it was only six!
i'm embarresed about our performance, but hope we stay up to play you lads again.
good manager, good team going places.
just hope Newcastle can stay up and build and improve next season.
good luck and best wishes for the season end

Sturridge really did play brilliant but jus needs to be more ruthless at times he shows of too much

Henderson is really playin well he needs to stay and be played ahead of allen

Glad for borini really hope he makes it but time will tell

Coutinho iv ran out of words for
Hes a bargian for 8 mill considering chelsea have paid
Oscar 20 mil
Hazard 30mil
Mata 20 mil

Hes just like them could be better

But newcastle were soo poor it was embarassing

Hope suarez stays cummon rodgers buy a cb one who is quick and most IMPORTANTLY POWERFUL IN THE AIR!

Very proud of our lads, must have been a knock for them knowing Luis is out for so long, I think we all expected a win, but not 6-0! A great team performance.

27 Apr 2013 19:30:35
that is what coutinho can do if he is played through the middle.

Much more effective than on the wing. Been waiting for him to be played in the 10 role since we signed him. I hope he stays in there.

Yeah, I agree, was a little worried we were playing a quality number 10 as a winger.

Kind of squashes the need for an AM but we still need an imposing CDM along with a (CLASS) Wide forward, a back up left back and replacements for carragher and skrtel at CB.

27 Apr 2013 19:29:35
Silver lining and all that.

I understand many of youse are still on the fence about Rodgers - saying that I am a fan - but nobody can deny that his two january signings have been absolutely class, especially coutinho, he's a magician.

Totally agree.

Sunderland fan here
Cheers today for smashing the
Played with a touch of class

Henderson, well done lad, well done, still deep within our hearts up here

Henderson has come on leaps and bounds this year

27 Apr 2013 19:24:06
Well done to all the lads. bring on the biters. sorry I meant bitters!

27 Apr 2013 19:12:55
We want 7

27 Apr 2013 19:12:54
Countinho was a buy and a half by Rodgers. He is passing like Alonso today, hope he keeps it up, could be a steal from Inter.
Really happy for Borini too, love the kid, after all his injury trouble he deserves a goal, I think he will come good for us.
We are playing more like a team today than when we play with Suarez.

Oh if Umpire Billy Bowden were at St James' Park, he could do the honours for us. One, two, three, four, five. SIX!

Wow what a performance, made up for borini great to see him back.

27 Apr 2013 19:05:39
Wheres all the borini haters now? Wheres harry scousser? Wheres waro? Henderson crap as well eh? Quality, bring on the old times

AND he played less

Who the f**k are all these AP's who keep making stuff up i'm ment to have said? What have I ever said about Borini or Henderson or Rodgers for that matter?

Show me the posts were i'm ment to have said anything about them or STFU.

Waro

In fairness OP Waro, whilst having a rep for being negative, usually confines this to the progression of the team rather than singling out individual players. I think he has, like the rest of us I might add, questioned the amounts spent on some of our acquisitions and also the style of play, particularly in the first half of the season which cost us a fair few points - don't think its fair to have a pop at him everytime we win, the guy is a season ticket holder so I hardly think we can question his support of the team, u may differ from his opinions and that is your right as it it his right to differ from yours

To the match - Wow! Unbelievable stuff, Coutinho a gem, Hendo played well and could been loads more, though Newcastle were awful it has to be said but great result on the back of a bad week

Ha, ha. Just heard on radio that a Newcastle player told a a web site radio commentator that he felt Newcastle would smash Liverpool today! We might not have our best player, but the rest of the team are not a bunch of talentless numpties!

The our own Lawro says this.

"Suarez will be really missed by his team-mates and I just have a feeling they will feel a little low and hurt. I think Newcastle will win this one. "

I didn't see this score line though!

27 Apr 2013 18:53:52
What a stunning performance from the mighty reds. Newcastle fans were pretty confident of beating us without suarez.

27 Apr 2013 18:52:40
Ozone and waro r a bit quiet today. rodgers must have shut them up

27 Apr 2013 18:51:07
Made a comment this morning about coutinho, intelligent passer and movement for him today has been great. Could be an interesting time with Suarez out and players needing to step up!

What a player coutinho is, absolutley class!.

SUAREZ is who, don't get carried away. great result but we need Luis and if they all blend well we could get back in the top four sooner rather than later. well played lads

Coutinho is a top class playmaker. He makes me less concerned about potentially losing Suarez. If worst came to worst and we were left with Coutinho + £40million to invest from Suarez then I think we'd still be a pretty good team at the end of it all.

-Shane.

27 Apr 2013 18:42:40
All this about Luis leaving and not leaving has anyone wonderedwith this new biting ban do you think he had it in his mind to do something so he can leave and people would not fault him? {Ed002's Note - He might be dumb as a box of rocks but he should be able to get advice that tells him that biting someone and getting a 10 game ban is not the way to avoiding anyone faulting him.}

how would people feel about potentially selling the naming rights to Anfield, just wanna gauge opinion.

27 Apr 2013 18:20:06
If it means we move forward yes, for the sake of it, no

If we got a oil tanker load of cash for doing so and they didn't call it something gash then why not. Personally though I would still call it Anfield regardless of a name change.

Crowman.

Fine with it! The reason we fell behind Man U on the pitch all those years ago was because we fell behind them off the pitch in the financial side of things.

FSG are catching us up off the pitch!

You mean United are leaving Liverpool for dust off the pitch and on the pitch? The gap on and off the pitch between United and Liverpool is increasing rapidly.

27 Apr 2013 17:24:08
I have been behind BR from day 1 but I cannot for the life of me understand why we need 3 defenders on the bench in Skrtel, Coates and Wisdom! Hopefully we won't need to rely on them. I suppose on the plus side Borini, Suso and Shelvey stand a good chance of getting on the field today for some much needed game time but I am still in a serious state of disbelief at 3 defenders on the bench.

Wisdom is cover for right back

27 Apr 2013 15:06:22
Carrols playing well. Think we should hold out for £18 million. And if we don't get it maybe give him a chance. He may make the team unblanced and he certainly doesn't fit in with Rogers footballing approach but could a front three of Sturridge on the left, Carrol in the middle and Suarez on the right ever work? My reasoning is that a number of the goals we are conceding are coming from set pieces. His presence in both boxes will not only add goals but also prevent us from conceding them. Think if it was to ever work we'd need a monster of a player to partner Lucas. Then maybe rotate countinho and henderson in the hole behind. And rotate gerrard with this position and the 2 CMs depending on the fixtures. If we can't get £18 million for him I'd try this in pre-season to see if it looks like it could work and if it doesn't look to move him on whether we can get £18 million or not. What do you think?

Have to say I completely agree. there is always the chance then of a plan b if the pretty stuff isn't breaking down our opposition. personally I feel he's under rated and wasn't given the time to settle, with support at West Ham United he's looking most of the player we bought again- guess that's confidence for you!

27 Apr 2013 15:01:43
It's good to see Andy Carroll on the score sheet again, West ham will have to put up or shut up with regards to the transfer fee.

27 Apr 2013 15:00:24
It looks like Carrol is coming into some form. I still think he should be sold but I think we should hold out for £18 million or so. And if we can't get this kind of figure I would genuinely think about keeping him.

I know a lot has been said about the fact he wouldn't work with the balance of our team and the way Brendan Rogers plays but what do you think of a front three of:

Carrol

He isn't that big, as to take up 3 players!

Hi eds, apologies if this has already been covered, had a quick scan down the page and can't see anything. Is there any truth in the rumour that we have been in touch with Qatari over shirt / stadium sponsorship and naming rights? If so what's the current info?

Thanks

Super {Ed002's Note - Liverpool issued a tender and it is in the hands of several potential sponsors including the extant sponsors. Mr Ayre has previously made it clear that the name of the stadium would remain unchanged, it is a statement from a third party that says they would like to change it. The club are primarily looking for money to help fund the stadium project and for sponsorship once the existing deal runs out, but somehow folks have gotten hold of the completely wrong end of the stick. It is no big deal at this time.}

27 Apr 2013 15:31:38
Thanks for clearing that up Ed, just something I read in a paper. Personally I'd be really happy if Anfield remained so

Hi eds, any chance of Jack Martinez of Porto in the summer? Whether Luis leaves or not?

Hah ok u will HAVE 2 pay 20+ for Jim, web in the summer we could get him 3 million less than borini, and brendon cudnt c that we wer front runner on Jackson Martinez signature, I don't know how the hell brendon desided 2 go 4 borini payin 3 millions extra, and let me tell u somefing this its wot custs us the hole season, brendon its crap his managment its crap, that's wy after spending 50 millions, we r not going 2 get top 4, brendon out.

So we were top of the que to sign him even though our manager didn't know about it.

To the second poster. what the hell is that because it is not english! if your going to post make it one that is worth reading and something that is illiterate! br is in my eyes doing a top job and has had a hell of a lot of pressure on him and the team and is constantly growing with suarez etc. give the man a chance he obviously has some sort of knowledge and far more than you as you can't even type properly. sort it out!

As Carragher is retiring a CB is needed. I think Lescott would be a quality buy, experienced and dies not seem in contention at City. If Kelly can stay injury free I doubt another CB would be included. We also need a winger and probably a back up striker, thoughts on who they could be?

NO WAY
we need a mobile CB who can join in the attack as and when needed. Someone similar to a David Luiz.

Lescott is awful, wouldn't want him thanks, he can go back to the bitters thanks all the same.

Rather keep skyertl (spelling)

Well done Phil Thompson for a fair and unbiased assessment of the LS ban. Shame more Liverpool fans couldn't be more like you instead of defending the undefendable.

Disney!

When it's all died down in a couple of weeks all those that have said the length of the ban is ok re assess it and I think your opinion will change. It was right that he should be banned but its to many games, a ban and a compulsory anger management course would of been better.

Sir Reusch, I've been thinking the same all along. Ban him for the rest of the season, a fine on top of that and compulsory anger management throughout the summer. Perhaps even get in the ghosts of Christmas past to show him the error of his ways.

27 Apr 2013 11:50:50
Really good article by Kenny in the Mirror about the FA 'independent' panel, well worth a read. As KK points out it is not so much the ban but the way the FA conduct business that is of upset to LFC. The general feeling is that biting has no place in decent society I have not heard anybody defending it or playing that down. What is wrong is the way Luis has been treated by the FA again. We all need to have a siege mentality now get behind the team and stick it to the FA and their cronies by being stronger and dignified. As Paisley used to say do the talking on the pitch.

27 Apr 2013 18:07:44
yea it upset lfc like you said to be honest it should of been 6 or 7 games band not 10! that's kind of ridiculous to be honest suarez is a tiger I think!! leighton

27 Apr 2013 11:01:09
I know it won't be a priority and I know Ed002 won't agree but even if Suarez stays I can still see BR buying another striker in the summer.
Assuming I'm right and assuming it'll be a fairly cheap purchase would anyone like to throw any possible names forward?

Andreas Weimann.

KiwiRed

Peter Crouch

Weimann doesn't want to be thrown into another relegation battle next year. I think Nicklas Bendtner would go hand in hand with Liverpool, personally.

Melbourne CFC

I know other areas need investment i. e Defence. but I would like to see us get in a real top notch striker to play with or without Suarez. I know we have Sturridge, but Man Utds purchase of Rvp shows that a proven goalscorer and a real goal threat will take you up a level. Thinking even just short term. Villa would be well worth a punt!

I agree with Kiwi. I think he has his eyes set on wiemann. For me though, Suarez, Sturridge and Borini is plenty of cover for one position.

Looking forward to seeing Borini in this last couple of games. I really want to see this lad win the fans over. He's got something but he needs to start scoring goals. One or 2 goals before the end of the season could make all the difference. The first one is the hardest.

Davey Sulls

Bendtner

Weimann we asked his agent a while back

I agree with the other guy.
Bedtner and Liverpool = match made in heaven.

Bedtner's agent

Well Melbourne, I'd still rather Bendtner that Torres.

Apply water to that burn ;-)

KiwiRed

Johnny Russell of Dundee United good prospect a scorer of great goals

Melbourne are you going to the lfc game in august if so lucky you.

Borini boom!

Off the mark.

27 Apr 2013 10:17:42
With Suarez banned for the first 6 games of next season and with us already short of strikers do you see Liverpool investing in a cheap or 'young' striker possibly someone under 23 to cover for Suarez, Sturridge and Borini? If so which players and clubs have Liverpool recently scouted?

It could be a busier summer than expected with potentialy Doni, Carragher, Skrtel, Wilson, Spearing, Downing, Pacheco, Assaidi and Carroll all moving to pastures new.

That's 9 players all going and whilst all 9 of those won't need replacing its clear we lack at centreback, defensive midfield and on both the wings.

With a possible 3 centrebacks already departing does a question mark still hang over Coates? Are Reina and Shelvey both undecided on their futures or are they willing to stick with the club for at leat one more season? {Ed002's Note - If Liverpool want cover they could use one of the strikers they have like Morgan rather than spend money.}

Morgan and Borini. are not good enough I'm afraid ed. we need another quality striker {Ed002's Note - Just to cover 6 games - Liverpool do not have the finances for that sort of luxury.}

I was under the impression that Doni has already left the club.

Mikey D

Williams, Diakite, Alonso, Honda, Ince & Alex McCarthy (season loan back) would make us much stronger and cost about 40m. Sale of Carroll, Spearing, Skrtel, Coates & Assaidi will bring in 35m plus. The mental strength and experience of Williams & Alonso makes us tougher to beat, Honda provides goals and creativity and Ince will help our goal tally too. Diakite can also cover left-back and won't be bullied wherever he plays. If Suarez goes I'd go for Tello & Rodrigo.

27 Apr 2013 09:57:52
Ins:
Tello
Dede
Coentrao
Alonso
Higuain?

Lmfao get real

Seriously get real.
Dede,
Ashley Williams,
Micah Richards,
Hatem Ben Arfa,
+ no striker as u have 5 on the books already.
these are more realistic what says you ed am I the only person on here speaking any sense.

Now i'm a leeds fan so take the advice get real or get relegated {Ed002's Note - Dede won't be going anywhere near Liverpool.}

Your a Leeds fan and your buying us 3 CB's!

YEP skrtel is off, agger is a fair weather player at best carragher retiring, coates isn't getting any better, your wing backs ain't bad at all infact class act's, I know DEDE is a bit of a paper link but richards is the prfect replacement for carra as they are almost carbon copy players both more than comfortable at right back and better at centre back.

My bro is a kopite and he agrees your defense is a priority as it will be in bits come the summer and if reina finally walks as he has threatened a couple of times now your going to need a keeper too.

27 Apr 2013 09:42:36
hi eds, someone say me mad but for the future of Liverpool we need to sell a good number of players this season. we need 2 good center defenders. I like to sell agger because he is 28 and not too good in corner and free kicks. we can get at least 18m for him but next year does not know what happen because no one can spend as much next year. if we can sell agger for 18m+skrtel for 10m+coates for 5m=total 33m. two good centre backs at the age 24-25 can getable around 25m. and other 8m can be used to get a left back. we make kelly and wisdom for regular in the next season. so spending nothing we rebuild our defence. toby alderweild, dejan lovren, mobodio diakite, stven savic, adil rami, kurt zouma, mattias ginter, two papadupolous from greece, onbogba, david astori, all are available in the summer. any of the two available around 25m. we can push jonson as left back. so if we promot maclaughlin in the fist team and wisdom and kelly as backup then 8m can be used to get a defensive midfilder who will make partnership with lucas. a defensive midfilders from france can be available around 12m. the extra 4m we can get by selling jay spearing and wilson. we can sell downig for 8m. available good right back will cost 16 to 18m. the extra 10m will get by selling selvey and assadi. if we sell reina for 10 m then we can get a golkeeper by adding 2 or 3 m. by selling carroll for 14m. we have 10m extra. our owner will give us 20m. so total 30m. eriksen cost 18m. extra 12m will spend for young prospects. a young goal keeper, a young defensive midfilder, couple of 16-17 years centre defenders, a young left back. it hard to sell and buy this players quickly. but if we are really concentre in it then we can do. we badly need this.

Whos going to pay 18m for Agger?

Have seen people do stupid posts like this before but this one actually might makes a lotof sense.

Anonymous woolback

This post, and many others, believes that top money will be paid for your caste offs (it won't) and any monies received will be available to purchase replacements-it won't.

Just hope the sun shines from May to August, otherwise there will be some really depressed supporters in Liverpool!

27 Apr 2013 09:41:29
Any chance of us getting aggers central defensive partner for his national side? The 2 of them look good when playing together. Also will suso be more likely to play/ be loaned or are we looking at a player with more experience for his position in the summer? If so do you know who it might be/ possible targets. {Ed002's Note - The subject of CBs has been covered at length.}

I would be asking a different question. Any chance of getting rid if Agger? He's bad. Very bad.

27 Apr 2013 08:55:57
Ed002 sorry mate. When I asked for clubs that met FFP rules I meant EPL only. {Ed002's Note - It varies a bit year-on-year but of those at the top Liverpool and Manchester City are the two who clearly don't. Manchester United, Spurs and Arsenal are fine. Chelsea were fine last season as they made a profit, but traditionally are not.}

27 Apr 2013 08:52:36
Coutinho and Sturridge upfront. Could be interesting. I think Coutinho looks for more interaction and clever movement around him so Sturridge will have to get his football brain on, but this will be an interesting time.

27 Apr 2013 08:34:32
hi eds, as a die hard fan of Liverpool, I really like too see 3 or four players of our current squad who playing regularly (not mentioning the youth system)after next three years. coutinho, sturidge, lucasand gerrad. I am very douthful about getting cl position next year with our current squad. the main problem of us is that we have vast number of inconsistance players. allen was good in the begining but lost his rytham. hendo is super one day, and next day he is awful. we brought aquiliani, hendo and allen to replace gerrad in future. but gerrad is more good than them at the age of 33. what a rubbish rogers is, we gave 16 m to swansea for allen and chelsea gave 20m for oscar. and the whole world knows the diffrance between oscar and allen. we spend almost 90m for allen+aquliani+borini+hendo+downing. a 20m player should be regular starter for their country. but look hendo or downing, how much time they have called for england?even sterling is far far talented than the 20m players of our team. when we got downing arsenal also interested in him. but they offered just 9m for him. but we offered double of then. aston villa was not full. they got the money and we get the stuggles. we also brought a 35m pound world class striker named caroll who can not receive the ball well. sometimes one player has one or half good season. but that does not means they are world class. we have made the bad thing for the last three or four years. carrol had a half good season with newcastle and we spend 35m. allen had a good season with swansea and we lost 16m for him. same case for hendo andsunderland. so need a huge change. we should money for go top. not to fight wiht west brom, swensea, stoke for 7th place.

27 Apr 2013 07:57:47
hi eds, arsenal are looking for mattias ginter. huge talent and future heart of german difance. 19 years age with huge potential. he will available for 10-12 m. arsenal will not pay this money because arsen wanger loves to buy defenders around 6to 8 milion. he will available in summer. if we have interest in him, we must be quick. we can use our unwanted players like coates and assadi. this guy will cost 20m to 30 m in the next 3 years. a world class defender at the age of 19. we can get 14 m from the sell of skrtel and coates. with this money we can get ginter. if we offer freiburg 12 or 14m for him, they must excepted. we can beat arsenal. wenger can offer not more than 10 m. we must get out reputation back by singing this kind of talent, not talent from swensea.

27 Apr 2013 07:44:55
Pep Guardiola is set to sell winger Arjen Robben, 29, when he takes charge of Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in the summer.
From the tv sport website, I know there wil be a lot of clubs interested, but if we sold Suarez, would we possibly be in for him, would love to see him at anfield?! :)

Please god no! while he was excellent last tuesday night he doesn't usually like to track back to help out and we don't need a 29 year old defensive liability.

Wolfhound

Sorry wolfhound I have to pick you up on that, so robben lacks defensive nouse

welldone for pointing out the blatantly obvious but he is not required to defend as there is a midfield and get this a defence behind him.

so your going to overlook one of the best wingers in the world currently on the top of his game because he won't track back, well if your club requires light weight wingers to get back your screwed before a ball is kicked.

I think he's overrated

Snoopy you are missing the team we have in place. Robben not getting back would greatly affect Johnson/Enrique's ability to get forward which is mostly the role they are in now. Our wingers are also expected to do a lot of work in this system and defensive duties are a must. Look at downings defensive work during the games to see that it's rather necessary. I personally don't think he's a good fit, putting aside age, potential transfer fee, and attitude in locker room.

Then play a holding full back like wisdom or martin kelly, I don't like attacking full backs,

like big jack charlton once said "you show me a footballing defender and I will show you the weak link in the side"

like I said defenders defend attackers attack, robben is no defender, you name me a top midfield winger who tracks back.

27 Apr 2013 07:31:50
hi eds, we search for a defensive midfilder. Roman Neustdter is a quality player. strong and good game reader. recently played for germany. a good number of shalke04 players leave in the summer. I think he could be a great singing for Liverpool. can make a good partnership with lucas. Liverpool has any interest? {Ed002's Note - No.}

hi eds, once I have heard that fiorentina has interest in fabio borini. we need a centre back and steven savic has a great season. bayern and dortmund will make a bid in the simmer. we can assure savic as a regular start. in bayer and dortmund he has to face competition. borini+cash. is possible? {Ed002's Note - Liverpool has shown no interest in him.}

Is there any chance that we could give Carroll another go next season with the Suarez ban in force. I still rate him as a good player and it would be a shame to let him leave without really proving himself. On his day he is unplayable as the cup final proved. I just wondered what people thought about this?

I think giving Carrol another chance would be a great idea, offers much more than Borini who I think is out of his depth, not good enough, where as Carrol would work well with Sturridge when the physical teams scare him.

We may have no better choice than to hold onto him for at least half of next season with suarez's ban. May give him that opportunity to prove BR wrong or help boost his value for offloading in the winter.

When will borini be available again?, I know he is back in training, I assume if sturridge starts, he'll be our sub striker if he returns for the last couple of games of the season?, or will he not start untill next season?

Boot room blarney- hi all, I think losing luis for a while could be the best thing for this club, we really do rely on his magic so I it will be up to the others to step up to another level if not we get players in summer who will and if luis does decide to leave we be ready if not it will be like having your finest warrior back with us for war I think a win win -every cloud has a silver lining.

Suarez is not going anywhere....

Great news

Cheers

Macca

Famous last words.

Then the silver lining in the cloud is that the other forwards ( Sturridge, Sterling, Borini, Assaidi and others from the B squad) will get unplanned time on the field. Can only be good and can't do any harm.

That's great News, but he needs to learn to control himself better as its the second time he has done something bad and is wrecking the clubs image, Thanks for that Info Macca

Needs to go. His disgraceful behaviour has given our beloved club a bad name. He's also the greediest footballer I have ever seen. Sell the lot to be honest, garbage.

That's cheered me up a bit this morning anyway. I still think a lot could happen on this one though.

Hello Eds,
is this the real Macca?

{Ed033's Note - Yes

I'm happy - Suarez is the best footballer we have had at LFC since Stevie broke into the first team and we need to keep him while at his peak

Thanks for update Macca
YNWA lfc

Here's hoping Yesil (if recovered) gets a break in the first team

I don't think the board would turn down a 60 million pound bid if one came in.

Money rules in football

with Suarez gone and borini injured could we call back ngoo? sturidge is great but being the only striker was our problem at the start of the season.

We can't call him back as Uefa/Fifa rules say you can't recall a player on loan from a foreign country unless that player gets injured etc.
