i for 1 really hope ac stays and is given a chance feel so sorry for the lad correct me if im wrong but has he ever had 3 or 4 starts on the bounce how is he ever meant to live up to 35 mill price tag and that wasnt a price tag he put on himself even with the new system br wants us to play surely he can fit in as balls will still be played in to box and he can hold ball up for likes of stirling gerrard suarez to feed of him but how will we ever know if he only gets 10 mins max and not calling borini but wasnt an outstanding game ystday surely could of changed with 30 to 40 mins left,and u can see he is up for it effort wise he would cause havoc for the arsenal game next wknd there bunch of softies would be scared sh**less of him with stirling and suarez out wider and stevie g storming through 9 points next 3 games and all will be rosy again

Totally agree - Crouch got about 17 games starting before he scored his first goal - all AC needs is a manager that believes in him and that he can do an amazing job for us - we will be sorry if we sell him to a rival.
When did Old Whisky Nose sell a player to a rival? - never.
AC is 23, who can frighten any defender in PL on his day - just hope he gets the chance to have a lot of those days in a red shirt

John B

Two different managers have now seen Carroll in lots of training sessions and he's still not making the first team. Surely that, plus his lack of goals, says all that needs to be said?

Because it isn't the fact that he doesn't score it is the fact that he slips all over the place as well as having a poor first touch. He is good at the defending part but we don't need that. When your 35 million pound strikers best attribute is defending then you know you've made a huge mistake. I rate the lad but he really won't fit into our team. Maybe Aston Villa's or Newcastle's but definitely not ours. Especially now.

BthekingB

He had 8 starts I think during suarezs ban. I rate the lad but is he ever going to play the style Rodgers wants? I can't see it best sell while he has some value left as you must back the manager not the player

Sounds about right !! B

Well you have to earn the chance to have 3 or 4 starts on the bounce.
Where do you earn that chance?
On the training ground.
Now unless you are some sort of stalker i don't think you know what goes on there so wise up.

Anyone agree that this documentary is a bad idea, just wathced the sterling dressing down thing, ok players need boll***** every now and again but to have it on telly? Some things should be kept in the dressing room as they say, anyone agree.

Andy The Red

Wat channel is it on mate. Gaz b

No need to show that...if Sterling takes it badly (showing the public) then the club suffers

No1 would want the whole world to witness something like that

Are you lot joking? I'm so excited for this documentary. I love that Rodgers has the balls to call a 17 year old kid out and make him stand up for his actions. Obviously, Sterling has benefitted from what happened in that clip (during the USA tour, mind you, prior to all of Sterling's starts) and if he can motivate the rest of the kids like he has Sterling.... In five years time we have an everage age of 22 and a stupid ridiculous team.

Just hurry up with this sale of Carrol and Adam and sign us 2 decent strikers to finish the chances we create, since we now have to sale before we can buy. I mean, if you say Carrol doesn't suit you and you won't bring him on till the damage is done, why say its a liberty to sale him at his real value? Sale all the poor players and build your own team Mr. ROGERS.
Loic Remy and Dempsey are available and cheap as well. These guys can take the pressure off our defence and we won't concede cheap goals.
Again, seeing as Hendo is Gerard's most likely replacement, why still allow Gerard enjoy fulll 90 minutest with his tired legs? Could it be cos Hendo played 90 minutes in Europe or Lucas going off early and the red agger saw the other day which may have changed things.
Lastly, Falcao is running amoc and scoring for fun out there for Bilbao and thats what a proper striker does for you. We played so well last night and should have been home and dry if we had one. Our owners need to pay more attention to LFC if they truly want us to succeed and compete favouracly with the top guns.

Stevenge

Firstly I doubt 2 strikes/attacking mids will take the pressure off the defenders, unless Rodgers wants remy and dempsey as back up centre backs...
Secondly Falcao plays for Madrid not Bilbao
Cal

Falcao doesn't play for Bilbao.

Bang on with all

I'm quite sure Falcao 'is running amoc and scoring for fun' for Atletico Madrid, who shelled out 35mil pounds to sign him from Porto. Bilbao only signs Basque players, remember? Singred

Listen guys I feel like most of you after that performance at home against the current Champions and things are looking better than last season already especially now that Nuri Sahin will be playing in the middle with Joe Allen and Stevie G!

Let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet though,

We have the creative excellence of Luis Suarez upfront who struggles sometimes to hit the net, he's definitely earned a first team place and should be there week in week out but can't be relied on for 20+ goals a season and neither can Fabio Borini, he's similar in some ways but more of a box player who can possibly get you 10+ per season if he's lucky. We need a striker who has pace and accuracy, someone who can score with both feet and his head, Clint Dempsey is not that type of player in my opinion.

If Daniel Agger or Martin Skrtel get injured we only have Sebastian Coates to play there, we certainly shouldn't be playing Jamie Carragher in Premiership games that's a certainty, we need quality back up in Defence, possibly someone who's versatile, this could cost us half way through the season if we're unlucky. Brendan Rodgers must know that, if he doesn't he must have alot of faith in Martin Kelly at centerback because Sebastian Coates cannot be put into the 1st team week in, week out in the Premiership, he needs more experience in the cup games.

Lastly our bench is very poor indeed, not a major issue at the moment but if we do make it into the Champions League next year, that will have to change. We need players who can make an impact. I know Raheem Sterling is just that type of player and so is Fernandez Suso when he gets into the 1st time. Jonjo Shelvey is also a player that should be there on the bench if we need him, I actually prefer him to Lucas, who I'm afraid has played his best games in a Liverpool shirt already, Assaidi, looked the business in the Dutch league sometimes and Ajax wanted him too but we just don't know yet. Apart from that we're missing 4-5 options to change a game. Hopefully, the deadwood, you know who they are no need to name them, can move on to other clubs and we can think about this issue next summer when we're hopefully in the Champions League but until then let's hope it's the genius of our midfield that gets us there because our strikers aren't gonna cut it throughout the whole 2012-2013 campaign.

I'd love to hear all your thoughts on who those players could be, realistically, and who do you think we'll sign this week.

Just incase anyone has missed out on Brendan calling out on Sterling, it's good to see that from a manager.

Alex

It's horrible to see it as a fan though... I mean I know it's for the better but I really really don't want to see the manager tell off any of the players.

BthekingB

It is brutal to watch and you feel for Raheem but it has to happen and it would have been worse had he not said anything

Rodgers has a job to do and in my opinion he did his job in telling sterling off . now its uptothe lad to respond and so far so good on that side . hes a young lad and needs to keep his feet on the ground

They are all pro's. let them do their work, it is to the benefit of all of us

we must clear out the signings k.k made first as f.s.g had ther fingers burnt in the transfer market and have realised how easy it is to blow money specially on overarted english players just like british leyland cars exspensive and dont run very well unreliable performance and heavy on the wonga to keep

We must clear out fairweather fans like you!

Hey eds and Macca, again brilliant work and much appreciated by all us die hard reds,

My opinion is that I think we are still a midfielder light (speaking with jay, Adam and cole not in mind) and a real fox in the box type player, heard rumours of interest In Rhodes from huddersfield what's your thoughts on this? And do you think if for sake of argument we get £15m for Carroll by Friday it will be reinvested straight away and thats the only money we'll see being spent? Im also half tempted to say a winger short aswell because I think it be unfair for us to expect what we seen from sterling to be a weekly occurrence week in week out to soon (even though I think he's capable)

Thanks
Craig

27 Aug 2012 22:33:39
Hi Eds, first of all thanks for all the updates and hats off to Macca for the actual inside info,
Was curious to know your opinion in respect to Rogers comments, saying there will be 1 or 2 more signings, who other then Dempsey that would be, hearing rumours of Jordon Rhodes, sturrage ect who in your opinion that mite be? {Ed029's Note - My opinion is that other than Dempsey we may get one other player and I don't think it will be Sturridge nor will it be Rhodes}

27 Aug 2012 22:09:42
hi eds and fellow reds, was just wondering do you think sahin will go straight into the first team and who would your midfield 3 be? mine would be allen, sahin and gerrard. would appreciate peoples opinions thanks.

NEred {Ed029's Note - Possibly a lot will depend on Lucas' fitness and how well Sahin trains. As you say yesterday BR isn't afraid to pick people on their merits and form}

27 Aug 2012 22:27:01
I think falcoa from athletico would help win us the leauge wishfull thinking ahhhhhh STEMLOCC1

The name is Falcao. It means Falcon in English.

There are a lot of players who could win us the league, what is your point?

City wouldn't have won the league without Aguero, is that relevant either? No it's not

See that Yohan Blake has give his Jamaican born brethren Raheem Stirling a big thumbs via Twitter. Fair play to the young man, got the world at his feet.

Why are Liverpool not interested in M'Villa when he would be a perfect holding midfielder.

The club need to take a few risks and the money isn't huge.

he fits the biill of FSG in being young, having good resale value etc.

LFC need a squad with plenty of reserves who are young players who can grow.

This is just crazy dealings.

We have adequate coverage there already and no way is M'Villa going to want to be 3rd choice.

How many midfielders do you want at LFC?

cozinoz

We can't buy everyone

We can't be interested in every player on the planet especially midfielders when we already have 8.

They say you should have two for every spot, well in Lucas and Allen we're pretty much covered their. Arsenal need M'Villa a lot more then we do. Think he'd be pretty cheesed off sitting on our bench cause I couldn't find spot in our starting eleven for him.
Jonson

Why do we need him when we have Lucas?

We have enough central mids thats why and he was absolute shocking last season

We need to sell the s ite midfielders and get more of standard reqd for LFC

15-20 Million for a sub? I really don't want to pay that when we need to get better cover for other positions.

BthekingB

We don't have a natural defensive midfielder other than Spearing...

27 Aug 2012 22:18:13
On a recent poll on LFC TV, 94% of the people said our next buy should be an attacker. Doesnt take a genius to work out that that's our main problem right now - we need a finisher. There are only 4 days left till the window closes so why risk it and wait for a sale to happen first? If it is our biggest handicap it needs to be addressed immediately so please let those owners give Fulham the 8 mil or whatever theyre asking for and get this Dempsey affair over with already.Then we can worry about who's leaving the club.
DAni

And if we need to sell to stick to our budget? I understand your sentiment however we need to balance the books and by taking on more costs then it becomes harder to do that. Lets see what happens by the end of the window. I am sure the management are far more aware of the overall situation than we are.

Carrol to go for 17 mil pounds...Adam for 4 mil...Chile for 2 mil...spearing for 2 mil...

Expect Robert Lewandowski / Fernando Llorente to come for 25 mil...and Clint Dempsey for 6 mil....

Would be one hell of an attack lineup .....

Red Saudi

Never going to happen.

RedKopite

I've been racking my brain to figure out who 'Chile' could be an autocorrect for and I can't figure it out...

In any event, Lewandowski + Dempsey for Carroll and other fringe players would be amazing (albeit I think very, very unlikely).

Chile = Cole, maybe . . .

I think Chile is meant to be Cole(auto correct on some phones)

Possibly Ian Ayre in talks with Chilean Sebastián Piñera to purchase the Republic of Chile??

I did dream last night that Brendan was in advanced talks with Sakho to bolster the defence. Woke up and reality kicked in. There weren't three little birds pitched by my doorstep, and morning hadn't broken... it was 5 O'clock in the evening and great, I'm on another nightshift tonight. Tell me why I don't like Mondays?

Looks like Dempsey is going to Sunderland and Huntelar to team up with Suarez again at Liverpol

Two words: YES.PLEASE.

£17m and he gone

Were in BIG danger of losing out on Dempsey

Carroll will be sold for significantly less than 17m

If Carroll goes, is it likely that a quality replacement will be brought in? Is Dempsey being classed as a replacement? I don't see him as an out and out striker at all..

27 Aug 2012 21:30:53
Cant help thinkin if we sell Andy Carroll to Newcastle...an on form Andy Carroll will be the diffrence of top 4 finish for witch ever club gets or keeps him??

Carroll hasn't been on form for literally years...

I think it would be foolish to let him go. He gives us another dimension and can be a game changer. Please please please dont let him go...

27 Aug 2012 21:12:36
Would not rule out a £7 mill plus Ben Arfa deal for Carroll on deadline day, Watch the space..

I would love to see ben arfa at liverpool, a touch of class

You me 7m +Carroll for Ben arfa

Newcastle far too smart for that deal

We dont need anymore fffin midfielders.....a proven finisher is now the priority

Where has the search function gone?

As it was explained earlier, it's down until 1st Sept to take the load off of the servers with increased traffic for deadline day. Obviously, it would have been difficult to find this because the search function isn't in use! haha.

You could use the search function on an individual page by using 'CTRL + F'.

Hope this helps!

Anybody see the clip with Rodgers giving a team talk and then having a pop at Sterling for a bit of cheek?? He put Raheem firmly in his place.

Don't see him tolerating any attitude from any player and won't be afraid to drop big names if they aren't doing it. Very refreshing!

Have you got a link to it?

Just hope Sterling doesn't mind the worldwide public humiliation

27 Aug 2012 21:17:48
Just wondering if the eds/Macca had any insight into the jordan rhodes rumours which seem to be around today?

Wicklow Red

27 Aug 2012 21:16:45
Rodgers still wants to sign 3 players
Clint Dempsey~~£5m-£8.5m
Jordan Rhodes~~£5m-£8.5m
Cristian Tello~~Loan (this seems unlikely)

He also wants to get rid of 2 players
Charlie Adam~~£6m
Jordan Henderson~~Loan

Andy Carroll will not be leaving in this transfer window unless a bid of £20m comes in

itk

Tello no way and hendo is not goin anywer

27 Aug 2012 21:16:21
Adam is going to Everton

27 Aug 2012 21:16:08
j.cole will leave lfc within the next 24 hours west ham have signed the player. 90k off our wage bill. done deal

Good deal 3rd 90K player leave.

Pfft.

If it's true, we're probably paying half his wages as part of the deal.

45k off the wages bill.

Good our wage bill is now looking fresh

Was just pondering away in my daily thoughts and started thinking how much its been annoying me that borini is being played out wide. I cant see why they dont just swap suarez and borini round and we're sorted. In trying to justify this in my head, the only thing i can come up with is.

If borini was playing in the middle he would be the main man, the number 1 target so he'd have the weight of the kop on his shoulders if he wasnt scoring. Playing him out wide gives him a chance to show us everything else he can do(movement, passing and skill?!). Maybe he'll even get a few. Then when the time is right stick him in the middle and BANG we have our 30goal a year striker ;) i wish/hope/dream haha

if im right its a very good move as hes young and we all know how easy it is for youngsters to break under the pressure of liverpool as we've seen it time and time again

Cudge

Thought about this a lit myself and think Borini and Suarez rotate positions a fair amount, but I think it's primarily because Suarez can hold up the ball a lot better than Borini.

Posted the same earlier today mate seems so obvious doesnt it steviep62

No offence but I'll leave things like that to the manager who knows his players capabilities a wee bit better then yourself . If I we're you I wouldn't let it get to you as much as it seems it is doing judging by the whiney start to your post.
Jonson

Poster above its wht we need Dempsey

But Suarez skins the opposition when he attacks from the wings

Would not rule out a £7 mill plus Ben Arfa deal for Carroll on deadline day, Watch the space..

Wishfull thinking mate, I'd like to keep andy but ben arfa would soften the blow.

27 Aug 2012 20:58:44
i heard that average sized club down south have pipped us to signing Gaston Ramirez. o'well i bet he's overrated :)

We're not actually in for him!!
Kenny and Comolli were interested - Rodgers has never been interested.......!!

27 Aug 2012 20:57:37
Hi can just say something to all the people claiming we will get rid of 4 or 5 players and only bring in 2 before the window shuts. Did you not hear Rodgers after the City game say that he is looking at players coming in as he feels we still haven't replaced the players who have already left this window (numerically at least as I feel quality wise we have improved) and the squad needs some more depth, how would losing 4 or 5 more increase the depth of the squad. I have a funny feeling only 1 at a push 2 players will leave and at least 2 will come in. Don't know who these players will be, but I would hope Spearing as he is not good enough, maybe Adam as part of a deal to bring in someone new. Don't think Carroll will leave as it leaves us very short up top

Popa Lazarou

27 Aug 2012 20:53:04
Eds or Macca or fellow reds?

Are we gonna bring another striker in?
If there is one fundamental weakness it is the lack of a goal scorer. Surely Brendan and the owners know it would be suicide if we fail to address this weak spot.

GOT to-imperative!!

27 Aug 2012 20:50:23
Been told Man City will buy agger this week. They will pay over 20 million. The guy who told me also told me about a few players who have signed already so no reason to doubt him. Also been told FSG are not willing to spend any more money or add to the wage bill until players are sold first. Watch this space players will be sold in the next few days. Adam does not want to leave and thinks he is being pushed out of the club same with Carroll. Stoke are the only team showing intrest in Adam.

Agent X

To be honest, as much as I don't want to lose Agger, we will be alright without him, and if it means buying someone who can bury the ball in the net for us more often than not, then i'm in favour. Last season we had an amazing defence, but you don't get any prize for keeping clean sheets when a team can't score goals. With no Agger and a decent striker, we may not keep as many clean sheets, but we should hopefully out-score the other team

27 Aug 2012 20:50:14
Hi Guys, I am new to this so be kind please ;0)
I have a contact who hears snippets from someone who works with the office staff for LFC. Obviously they are not told much about transfers etc, but he seems to think BR was looking at 3 players, however this has now dropped to 1 - clint dempsey because he is so impressed with the guys coming through (sterling, coates, Shelvey in particular).
I asked specifically about Carroll and he thinks Carroll will probably stay, however we may have a late situation on our hands - with interest in Walcott then becoming a possibility.
Don't shoot the messenger, I am only telling you what I was told. I'll give you more if/when it arrives.
On another note, great performance yesterday (apart from the backpass!) and things are looking very bright indeed.

YNWA

Kevin11

I work at Anfield and we don't get told any transfer gossip.

Absolute rubbish

27 Aug 2012 20:48:41
I eally think Liverpool will be busy before the window closes. I can see Pacheco,Spearing,Cole, Adam and Carroll all being sold. If you listen to Bredans comment about the squad being light and the players needing some help then surely the only way is to rid of some players that he thinks dont bring much to squad and replace them with his own players. Or he keeps these players and Fsg stump up the cash for a few more, which i dont see as likely. So we could be in for a busy few days. I still also have a bad feeling that Agger will go, which would also release cash he might need for his restructuring. Hope im wrong on that one tho.

The Irish Rover

First bit maybe rest rubbish

27 Aug 2012 20:47:11
Please, guys and gals, everyone seems to have come down with some kind of giddy last-week-of-transfer-window fever. By my count, we're being lined with, in no particular order, Defoe, Rhodes, Huntelaar, Ramirez, Walcott, Sturridge, Ba, Cisse, Dembele, Afellay, Villa, my 85-yr old granny (god bless her) and my pooch...

Hang in there for a few more days, and the fever will pass.

Cheers.

appreciate your response.

(i.e would shirt sales in us with dempsey bring us income or more to warrior) {Ed001's Note - only from sales of merchandise in our own shop, so buying direct from the club is the only way to give an extra %age to the club.}

Mouasa Dembele worth a shout in my opinion.Younger and more talented than Dempsey in my opinion and has a 15 million buy out clause!

Dempsey scores goals tho, dembele is a beast tho!
5gold stars

But he can't score. Don't get me wrong I'd love him but we need a goal scorer e.g Dempsey, not a playmaker.

Papa G

I was impressed with this lad against England for Belgium.

Dembele has apparently said he wants a move so you can be sure there will be lots of big clubs interested.

Very highly rated by Belgium's national team management and was preferred to Hazard for one of their qualifiers in the Euros

I dont fully agree,dempsey will get you a load of goals.Dembele ,for 15mill would be brilliant investment,wont get the goals that dempsey will just yet.Brilliant potential young too

Dembele has apparently said he wants a move so you can be sure there will be lots of big clubs interested.

Dempsey gets goals!!

We need both!!

Let's get a Belgian...they're great...all teams want a Belgian...the latest trend

in all honesty though...Dembele would be a fantastic signing...

Dembele and Dempsey for Hendo, Adam and Spearing

Well after last weeks defeat the result yesterday was better as was the performance all round (yet we still missed chances).

It is clear to see from BR first few games in charge how he want's us to play and I don't see anything wrong in this style at all - keep up that level for the remainder of the season and I don't think we will have a bad season...........

Onto the new players, only 2 and half games in and it's clear Joe Allen is a very good and clever footballer. He reads the game well and always makes himself available for the simple ball - well done BR, £15m well spent. I know it's early and he will have bad games but with some players you just know when you see them, plus the opposition ain't much better than Ya Ya and De Jong!..........Fabio, I like this boy, yes he should have scored two in two, but I like his attitude and and his workrate. I also think his runs off the ball are also quite clever, just feel he needs a goal or two now.

Raheem, what can you say, fantastic full debut for a 17 year old. I've no doubt BR will handle him carefully (he ain't going to play every week at that level just yet) and take him out the team when he feel's it's needed.

Overall for me I am still confident for the season especially if we continue to play like yesterday. BR is obviously looking for a couple more players before the 31st, lets hope they are in the Joe Allen mode and quality!....-TMac

I agree with everything you've said. Allen looks like a great player. Borini knows how to play but just needs to settle in. He's falling victim to trying to hard with the new club. He knows how to play with someone liek Suarez who moves all around the pitch. Knows how to move into the spaces created by Suarez and will eventually start cashing in the chances, Im confident of that.

Im still very interested to see how Rodgers uses the side with Sahin. Now the "problem" can be solved if Lucas is injured but the fact is that those 4 midfielders all should play. Allen is important to the style of play, Lucas is a true defensive midfielder, Gerrard is still a dangerous player and we didn't spend as much as we did for one year of Sahin for him to sit on the bench.

Move Gerrard to the right of the front 3...?

Eds, If we sell Cole, Spearing, Pacheco, Adam and Carroll as people expect then in total that is nine players out this summer and with only 4 in so far could we expect 3-4-5 new faces in the coming days? {Ed052's Note - no. Maybe one or two possible none}

There is no future for Carroll, Adam, Downing, Spearing and Henderson

Henderson!
You are an person.

At queens park rangers maybe

Disagree on Henderson and I would say Carroll except it appears BR may not see a future for him.

Hi All,

A quick poll for you all (I like polls!).....

After his performance on Sunday, would everyone reluctantly be happy for Coates to replace Dagger in the back 4 this year, if we got 22-25million to go towards a quality striker?

Yes = Agree
No = Disagree

Also Eds, do you know if this is still a likely scenario?

Cheers

Red G {Ed052's Note - No}

No, but he's good back up.

MIKEY

Just no!!!!!!! i disagree with u posing the question
5gold stars

Agger and Coates are different types of player and offer different options. Agger is one the most naturally technical defenders on the planet whilst Coates is more agile and has better Aeriel ability. Both of them are top draw quality and would both be hard to replace.
#19

No. He's a good squad player and I think he will be top class ultimately, but at the moment he's far to rash with his tackling.

If he plays for a full season as first choice, he'll get sent off at least 3 times, give away a couple of penalties and the press and some of the fans will be on his back. He doesn't need that at his age.

If Agger goes, imo we have to buy a first team centre half. Neither Carra or Coates can play the full season (although both would be fine for 15-20 games) and constantly rotating the two would disrupt the backline too much.

- Something Red -

Buy another CB with the Agger money for a cheaper price (e.g. Amorebieta) and put the rest of the money towards another striker.

Zero

I think he could definitely replace Skrtel though.

Carrol is heading back to Newcastle. £15million. Its all over Tyneside according to a lad I know up there. Mugged off again.

Just hear me out, if someone wanted to buy Luis with him singing a new contract it would take around £35/40m to get him and then £15ish for Carroll the club would make a profit in money used for transfers from torres. I for one would like Carroll to stay. I think with a run of games he could fit in to the gaffer's plans and score a lot of goals

27 Aug 2012 19:18:16
Jordan Rhodes, why not? I know he is playing in a lower league but so is playing in Holland, France or some south American countries. He is young enough and his goal scoring record is there to compare with anyones. Someone will take a chance on him like Darrent Bent, Dean Ashton, Ashley Young, the list goes on.

Surely worth a punt

Kev the Red

To be honest watching allen play yesterday i trust brendan to bring in the right players. so i m just gonna sit back and see who comes and goes

Liverpool, we're on the up, we pass around with ease, we had the mighty champions all begging on there knees!

There's stevie g & allen too, on every blade of grass, they spray the ball all round the pitch, there just a different class!

We have sahin, assaidi too, to come into the mix, so give us time & rodgers too, our team he's gonna fix!

So bring on hearts & arsenal too, our confidence is high, our motto "We come not to play" success is surely nigh!

Silly errors cost us so, it's these we need to ditch, so if in doubt, just knock it out or whack it up the pitch!

Raheem sterling, take a bow, this guy has much potential, now who'd have thought at 17, he's so, so influential!

So fulham say we've messed with clint & now he wants to go, we welcome him with open arms, the goals are gonna flow!

Spearing, downing, adam too, it's time to step aside, it's time to leave, get out the way, the reds are in there stride!

A special season this could be & tiki taka rules, so those who doubt the mighty reds are just a bunch of fools!

A special thanks to all the eds, be lost without your site, let's hope the reds show lots of heart & put on a good fight!

Thanks eds, hope you post this as it took me a while! Lol! Hope everyone liked my poem!

Don't get ahead of yourself, it's a long season and we haven't actually won a premier league game yet!
City didn't have arguably their two most influential players in Aguero and Silva for the best part of the match. Plus we were at home.
It's this kind of arrogance that makes everyone want to beat us, and makes the fall so much harder. Learn some modesty, small steps. Your optimism is painfully embarrassing. Take a few pegs off your ladder and put that in your poem.

Get back on your own site! Its a POEM after such an impressive peformance! Chill out man n have the guts to post your name! Regardless of aguero not playin our midfield ran the show n he wudt av affected that! Now stop rockin in the corner n let us real fans think positive! Unbelievable jeff!

My (hopeful) predictions for the last week of the window

Ins;

Dempsey 8m
Rhodes 5m + performance based add ons

Outs;

Adam 3-4m
Carroll 16.5m
Spearing 1m or loan
Cole 1.5m

As I said, hopeful and would love to see maybe some defensive cover come in aswell. Also these are PREDICTIONS based on no inside gossip or magical powers or some sort of intimate relationship with BR!!

The only good thing so far about Brendan Rodgers is the fact that he's leaving out Downing, Henderson, Adam, Carroll, Spearing and Carragher. Apart from that, Same old Liverpool, 1 point from 6. 2 sloppy goals conceded yesterday. Hopefully someone bids for Adam, Spearing, Carroll, Downing and Henderson in the next few days so we can make a few good signings. Graham

Mate of mine a LEEDS fan doesnt rate Skrtel and Thinks we should get Dawson to partner Coates. His view, (unlike mine forwards)Is were overlooking improving defence. And points to goals conceeded first two games to back his very strong views re us. Interesting what others think. I feel hes wrong

He is 100 per cent right

The mans a beast for 179.50 mins , his 2 mistakes can be lessons he will learn from ,like what a fcking header aswell. ur mate knows nothing , is he not too busy watching the championship to notice?
5gold stars

5 goals in 2 games conceded.
2 pens, a wonder goal from Gera and two mistakes by Kelly and by Skertel.
4 of those 5 goals came about through individual mistakes rather than bad defending by the whole team.
If we cut out the mistakes we will be ok but if you do it too many times then it starts to affect the team's morale.
We had to play really well to get our goals against city and they did nothing apart from capitalising on our mistakes.
Shame because we deserved the win but thems the brakes.

In my opinion if we could raid Fulham for one player it would be Dembele. Everytime I've seen him live he's looked a terrific player. A neighbour of mine is a Utd season ticket holder, he said Dembele terrorized them on Saturday and looked the nearest player to Yaya Toure he's seen.

There are many great players but some look ready made to play for top end clubs. Dembele cuts the mustard for me and we are definitely a massive club.

I know we have bigger priorities in terms of areas we need to strengthen, mostly a prolific striker. But you can never have too many good players in your squad and I believe whoever snaps this young player up,hopefully us, will have a top, top player at their disposal.

Hugely encouraging signs from yesterdays game, many more positives than negatives. Sterling,Allen,Coates excellent and good performances from all the lads. Nobody really had a poor game. The energy in the side was infectious, I hope we can reproduce this level on our travels, the group we are putting together should be able to take the game to most sides either home or away.

Paul, Staffs.

We should buy him for the 15m buy out clause even if he rotates with gerrard....would double our money on him in a season....quality player

And stevies slowly coming to the end

Hi Eds. If it is possible, can you explain why Brenden Rogers speaks with a Scottish accent. Thanks. Deejay. {Ed005's Note - Because that's how people from the western coast of Northern Ireland speak - Ulster-Scots accent - well a hint of Ulster-Scots anyway.}

Ask ray houghton

I lived in Belfast for 4 years. Sometimes it is difficult to differentiate between some part of Northern Ireland's accent from Scottish accent.

Great answer Ed but Carnlough is on the East coast ........

Ask ray houghton

Someone said to him you need to be like Bill Shankley so he went for it... So did Rafa but the accent was too tough cos he is Scottish. Did you know that Alex Ferguson actually speaks with a West Country accent in real life he only does the drunk Glasweigian one for TV... True story. Got it from the same source who told me Torres is coming back to LFC!

Ray houghton is scottish thats why he has a scottish accent, he was born in glasgow but played for ireland

Mush the same dialects as Scottish as Ed005 pointed out. Coleraine, Portrush and Portstewart accents are different even though they're only a few miles apart from each other (You can even tell the difference between Ballymena and Ballymoney accents if you're used to hearing them regularly). I'm continually mistaken as being Scottish here in Canada.

Rodgers likes to keep ball alive and likes of pepe playing as sweeper at back, keeping pocession. But what Skrtel did is the danger of that style-YOU MUST stay alive. Personnally think styles improved but OVERdoing the pass back.Which is always risky

The problem wasn't so much the back pass it was the lack of someone tracking back with tevez after seeing skrtel in a position where he was gonna have to pass it back, tevez read it so should one of our midfield.

Gary

The problem was that he played a back pass without being certain who was there.
You can talk about tactics and tika taka being the reason for the error.
In my opinion it was rank bad defending... End of....
I would tell Skertel that he is in the team for the next game (he was man of the match until that point).... Privately I'd be thinking " 1 more cock up and your benched"
jonnybarnes89-90

Nothing wrong with passing back to keep possession. The errors were in the few seconds before he passed back.
Mistake 1 - Skrtel had early options to pass but took too much time.
Mistake 2 - Shelvey in particular didn't move to give him a new angle
Mistake 3 - Skrtel didn't look up before playing the backpass

Red Derry

Or the wingers could create a yard of space to receive the ball...then he will be facing our own goal and would of seen if the pass back to pepe was on....instead of a blind pass from the defence

We just GOt to get a 20 odd plus goalscorer. Borini tried hard but at times runs lacked intelligence to work as support and in tandom with Suarez wasnt there for knock downs or square when needed. Other times got too close.

Skrtels concentration still at times lets him down, shame cos we shouldve won, we'll beat Arsenal and Man u if we play again like that with crowd behind us.Man u good uptop but defence and midfield aint all that.Lucky to win on Sat. And as we know/knew- two things bout Arsenal=Get tight, dont let them play. And then without RVP they aint all that

27 Aug 2012 18:08:28
Deserved to win but how many times did we say same last season? Gutted, at home and no win-cos thats what its about. Anfield will need to be a fortress more than ever this season. We need a finisher desperately. Borini worked hard(didnt dirk)but Borinis lightweight shouldve been off 10 min earlier for Carroll or Morgan even.And Assaidi(?)couldve been on for an excellent but tierd Sterling

Last season did'nt play any thing like we did agaisnt man city,just two silly mistakes cost us win .out played city all over pitch for long periods of game . best i've seen Liverpool play for ages.really enjoyed game just wrong result

Nice one fellla. I enjoyed the game and thought that you were just missing Aguero a little bit. For me, if City dont have Aguero playing then their other 3 strikers are not at the same level in terms of consistency.

Out
Carroll (Newcastle) £16.5m
Spearing (Bolton) Loan
Cole (West Ham) Free as wages/contract paid out by West Ham

In
Huntelaar (Shalke) £15m
Affelay (Barcelona) Loan
Nagatomo (Inter Milan) £9m

9m for a back up lb?

Why would we pay 15mill for a striker who is nearly 30?

27 Aug 2012 17:52:20
Starting to re think the role Carroll could play on the team. An enormous amount of crosses went into the box yesterday, with nobody challenging for them.
I think I carroll had pushed right up into the box yesterday and fed off all the balls in he would have gotten a few. If we play like that for the season, and Carroll plays pushed right up, I coul see him gettin 25, 30 goals.

Just my opinion though.

Daveevad

Did we not try that for the last 18 months (admittedly a bit off and on)? Why would it work now as opposed to not working previously?

Perfectly entitled to your opinion but have you not noticed that Carroll can't move ?

How , therefore , would he push right up ?

Addition of Sterling I think. How do you line up a defense against Suarez, Carroll and Sterling. They have everything. PLus he had a major lack of service last season. He was there to hold the ball up, and players play off him. As we are now playing the ball through midfield, there would be less hoofing the ball up to him and running, and more of him cleaning up deflections, balls across box etc.

Again, just my opinion.

Daveevad

In reply of the first comment, because we dont have downing crossing the ball this season.

Fair enough point, but honestly baring I think it was the first one Sterling's crosses were not really all that good. I don't see him as being any better than Downing in that particular category, at least not yet anyway.

Hi Eds and other reds,
I hear we're looking for a striker to finish off our transfer incomings.
Rumours suggest it'll be one of Daniel Sturridge, Jordan Rhodes or Ricky Van Wolfswinkle.
Can you rule any of them out? {Ed052's Note - You cannot rule them out - but I would suggest they're all unlikely}

27 Aug 2012 17:40:00
I know it's fairly obvious that we're actively trying to sell Carroll before the end of the transfer window so this will come as no shock - I've heard from someone who has contacts with inside information that he is almost certain to be sold (from what he said I assume that willing buyers are there for him).

Good luck to him, I was never a fan but he seems like a nice enough guy.

27 Aug 2012 17:38:12
Probably should send this to Kenny,

If your going to spend 60-65 mill, then spend it wisely

Carroll,Henderson,Downing
Hazard,Oscar,Moses

alan50

Ignores the issue of wages & champions league

And your point is there both a waste?

You also have to look at wages. I'm pretty sure the overall cost would be (atleast) twice as much for the chelsea trio than ours.

Yeah what wages are they on though i bet its near double kennys signings {Ed005's Note - Double KD's signings? Don't be so silly.}

More like 70m+, looking back it shows how detached he had become from the game,the guys a legend, but to spend that amount on those three was absolute madness.
Jonny71

Errrrr Maybe you should think about wages & a signing on fee before trying slate the king!

Alsky

Now compare the cost in wages of the 3 Chelsea players compared to the ones Liverpool bought.

Carroll, Hendo and Downing are on a combined £130k p/wk as far as I am aware.

Hazard alone will be on more than that at Chelsea I suspect.

Before you post anything about finances, make sure you actual learn a thing about them first mate. Wages will cost more than transfer fees in the long run mate.

Reid the Red

Easier said if they won't come for reasonable wages and/or champions league football L19 Red

Ed everyone seems to think the same as me on the wages part, The Chelsea players will be on far more than the Liverpool boys and yet you tell me not to be so silly.

gee man

If it was me i would have brought then and now carroll, carroll , carroll give the lad a chance

GAM

Do people really think Kenny had a big pay in the financial side of these transfers? Get real that was more commoli's department and the club have whole teams of lawyers and advisors that deal with the monies.
People act like Kenny signed the cheques himself!
Kenny made his mistakes but im fed up with him letting all the blame for these transfer dealing's

Sturridge & Dempsey will complete the squad i think in this transfer window. Its obvious Sturridge wants out of Chelsea, he would be great for Liverpool IMO as will Dempsey, we need plenty of attacking options and Rodgers has done a great job so far with his additions to the squad... Cant see Joe Cole or Jay Spearing staying at the club if i'm honest, both good players but not good enough to break into the starting 11 now.

Rocky

Im interested in where everyone thinks Dempsey will play, we all use his name when talking about goals but i dont see where he fits.. After sundays game it looks likely that Allen will play DM with Gerrard CMR and Sahin CM ...With Lucas, Shelvey, Henderson available as back up do we really need Demspey? Up front we have Sterling, Suarez, Borini, with Downing, Aisaidi and Carroll as back up.. PPl talk about Dempsey replacing Carroll but they play different positions..So where would he fit in?
Id be happy to see Spearing, Adam, and Cole move on.. Sturridge in IF Carroll leaves..
ItsNotRocketScience

Id put dempsey in the starting lineup over sterling or borini... suarez dempsey borini... all interchanging throughout the game
mccarthy

Front three of Suarez, Borini, Dempsey. Or Assaidi, Dempsey, Sterling. Or Dempsey, Morgan, Suarez. Basically Dempsey could play anywhere in the front 3 or if we have injuries and such in the midfield. He's a very versatile player which I think is part of the attraction.

Dempsey would play ahead of Borini most of time

27 Aug 2012 17:22:36
Anyone know the reason why Adam was not on the matchday squad against city

Fazza {Ed052's Note - I think it may because he is possibly leaving}

Because he is not as good as those who were?

27 Aug 2012 17:20:16
How close to moving on are the likes of Spearing, Adam, Cole etc?

BIGRED {Ed052's Note - I'm not sure, but all three could move, the first two are probable to leave though}

27 Aug 2012 17:14:03
For me if we are looking for striker eg for £10m then Borini was a mistake coz if you add £11m of borini then we could have £21M to spend on world class striker who would score 25+goals don't get me wrong I have got nothing against borini but players like Higuan or lorente are different class and would boost our fans and players

Forgetting about wages mate and also any player like that will most likely want champions league and also will be at Liverpool for money I want players that are playing for Liverpool eg borini

Have you considered the wages of these superstar players? Give borini a chance! Seriously! He had an 86% pass conversion he fits into BR's system! And if I was a betting man I'd put money down on him to score quite a few for us over the WHOLE season not after 2 games

It's a good idea in principal but why would Higuain leave the Spanish Champions who have a great chance of winning the league again and Champions League and come to us where we don't have CL football (YET!). When we get back into the top 4 we'll be able to attract players of this calibre but at the moment it's very unlikely.

Hans

Thats not a bad idea actually. We should have sold the Carroll money and the 10M spent on Borini to get a 20-25M striker. Not sure of LLorente, we don't need another target men we need a striker with pace. Doubt would get Higuain but my choice would be Lewndowski.

but Borini isn't a bad player, can certainly grow into an important player of the squad and become a 15-20 Goals striker within years.

And also we could get a young player like Patrick Aumbayeng for 10-15M along with Borini. This is not a bad deal either.

Eitherway it's positive but it depends on the player we get rather..

Bosco

Borini plays for liverpool football club i support liverpool football club i will be backing borini.......it's not where you are from it is where you are at........ Paisley's genius

Mate we are paying 120/30+ wages to sahin which is big surprise to me where players like lorente are on 70/80 and has left only one year and doesn't want to extend. If you add borini`s wages and eg add dempesy if we him then we are paying 120/30 to two players where we can give those wages to world class player

I don't think we are looking for a striker. Suarez will play through the middle. We want someone to play on the right of the front 3.

Red Ollie

Good shout on aubameyang bosco,used to bea winger now a number 9 seems ideal for us

tom1975

Oh my god, the economics of the games console.

Redpath

We are NOT paying Sahin 120,000+ a week, More like 80,000.

From what I've seen Borini has had at least a couple of chances to score in every game he has played.
If he keeps that up then surely he will finish with about 15-20 goals in all comps.
I am more than happy with Borini( only 22).
jonnybarnes89-90

He's actually only 21. Nitpicking I know, but many people seem to be forgetting he's really just a kid.

Pass completion made me laugh hes here to score goals!! Something our strikers need to do more of

27 Aug 2012 17:08:26
Expect Arsenal to make a late bid for Andy Carroll. A throwback to the Niall Quinn days. I suspect that this is somewhere he would consider moving to as well with their definite need for him and the chance to play in the champions league.

Never ever gonna happen.

Would the spurs not be a better shout, they have some cash are looking for a forward and also Levvy has shown interest in the past....

Red 70

Why would we sell to either spurs, arsenal or newcastle for that matter, only thicks like wegner make their rivals stronger

Stronger?? matter of opinion

Eds/Macca, Any updates on Tello we seem to be close to signing him at 1 point but that has gone very quiet. Big Al N Wales {Ed052's Note - He wont be coming}

Tello always wanted to stay...

We did some convincing but it was not enough, Barca was willing to loan us but the problem was the player.

Armando

Caragher rejected a one year loan extension, to take up coaching.

Im surprised he is still offered an extension.

Well eds and reds!

Who do you think we will sign before the deadline???I dont think Dempsey will move eds...Your thoughts on who should we sign reds!

Aneesh {Ed052's Note - Dempsey will 99% move. Where, I think Liverpool. We will also sign another player as well. Thats what i think}

I really hope we sign Dempsey. Underated player.

Also hope we sing dempsey, goals and aggression and he s a bit of a nutter

Nathan Eccelston to leave liverpool

27 Aug 2012 16:58:07
Ed's, any concrete information on the Dempsey deal? are we waiting until deadline day to get a cheapest deal? it's all a bit messy really considering the type of club we profess to be. {Ed052's Note - No, but we should, I hope, sign him}

Lol

gareth

I think he is cup tied for the qualifying rounds.

He's cup tide from an earlier round, so the Ed his right mate.

27 Aug 2012 16:44:46
I think we all agree that Dempsey seems most likely to be the next one in.

I'm not ITK but looking at various factors I think Walcott may very well be the next one. 1st of all Macca mentioned him being a target and Macca has so far delivered the goods and been more or less spot on! And The fact he is yet to agree a contract with arsenal, arsene wengers recent comments about players must have the desire to want to stay at the club (because he doesn't seem committed to arsenal anymore), his best friend leaving (rvp) + many other quality players leaving, the lack of first team starts due to new aignungs and the ox, the fact he supports liverpool, he's a pacey winger, international/champions league experience, is only 23 years of age and fits well to BR's style of play make this seem like the perfect deal for both parties.

I think if thats to happen it could go all the way to the wire on transfer deadline day.

I think Sturridge & Herrera (i think thats his name?) are other options being looked at incase walcott has a change of heart.

Maybe a back goal keeper and back up left back are being looked at also.

Who knows I might be completely wrong haha

Thanks for the great work Eds, Macca

You have £10mil to spend do u go for:-

agree:-dempsey- 29 years old probably peaked last season. OR

Disagree:-j.rhodes-22 years old knocked in 30
+ last season all be in it in a lower league but still physical he will hav time to adapt.

ACHILLES. {Ed052's Note - Fomrer}

Is ed52 drunk today? His spelling is all over the place!! {Ed002's Note - He is not old enough to be drunk of course, but he has enormously fat fingers for someone so delicate.}

Remember connor wickham?where's him now?surplus to req

Dempsey age has nothing to do with it, his injury record and games a season is incredible.

Is it just me or do Americans seem to be fitter and peak older then English players?

Rhodes would be a gamble, i can see Rodgers going for Dempsey

Etch

Whats conor wickham gt to do with my question?

ACHILLES.

Like rhodes, he was supposed to be an upcoming star, but couldn't cut it in the prem. rhodes is not ready for the prem.

I feel Ed052's pain.... I too have a problem with fat fingers!!
Fat waist, buttocks and face are also an issue....
I love the cake!

27 Aug 2012 16:35:48
Was at the match yesterday as usual and yes we did play well and should have won however has anyone got any concerns over the actual physical size of our team ? I thought we looked sligtly lightweight/ small looking at the oposition and feel we
could have issues defending corners/ free kicks.
I also felt for all the ball we had we should have made Joe Hart work harder I dont re-call him making any noteworthy saves.
Sorry if this sounds slightly pessimistic but we are still desperate for a top forward to assist Luis to
break teams down.
Marco

Barcelona live with this dilemma every week and they're not to shabby so im not worried. plus weren't we the ones that scored from the set pieces.

Suarez and Borini are both 6 foot tall or thereabouts, so they're not exactly tiny.

Small? your kidding right? coates, skrtel, gerrard, reina, johnson, carroll, shelvey, kelly, enrique, are all over 6 feet and suarez, borini are 5'11, our team is not small or lightweight

jed

Its how u use ur advantages to cover ur disadvantages. look at Allen, such small body. but my word he keeps the ball under pressure so well.

Kaizer

Agree Citeh huge we'll be dominated against physical sides away

Spain played with no strikers and won euro,s. tipi tapi

if sterlin carries on like that he deserves a run out for the national team but hopefully he doesn't get injured

England? Behave.

DaveyBootle {Ed052's Note - Come on, who else can play left wing?}

Which national team ?

Ski {Ed052's Note - He could already play for Jamaica, I guess the original poster means England though}

I think we shouldnt let him play for England senior team yet. Let him be 21 or 22 for England.

Kaizer

Haha, you're forgetting stewart downing ed {Ed052's Note - O, yes, silly me haha}

27 Aug 2012 16:24:01
Everyone needs to give Borini a chance. he didnt set the world on fire yesterday but he has proven already against Gomel he knows where the goal is. Just relax and be patient

yann lfc

I felt that he shudv taken his chances against hearts and city however the more matches he plays the better his finishing will become

He played very well. Watch his all round performance not just what he does with the ball.

If you just watched him, you would admire what he brings to the team.Beware not to judge to soon,

The same applies to A C but he is not given a chance

Just watch Borini for an entire match and you'll see what he does. His runs will create so much space for Suarez this season

Not directly about Liverpool but could affect us as a bi-product. Apparently Tottenham are after Liverpool's transfer target Clint Dempsey.

Makes me giggle though as Spurs will only splash £11m for Willian a 21 year old, but Spurs are prepared to pay Fulham's asking fee for a 29 year old in the last year of his contract.

It was a very shaky website source though, so pinch and salt ready. But it was interesting. Spurs have left things very late in all reality and i think prices go up each day until the window shuts from now in, don't they? See how far that £30 million stretches Mr Villa Boas.

You should really be saying "See how far that £30m stretches Mr Levy" since he's (apparently) driving transfer decisions at that club.

- Something Red -

Willian is 24.

I don't know where we will finish.

Hey eds,Suso has not been included in u21 today....do you think he will play against Haerts??
Manoj YNWA {Ed052's Note - Good question. I pray he will. I really do}

He's suspended for the U21s, he was sent off at the end of last season, he will miss the next one or possibly two U21 matches as well

I would prefer he rested for the hearts game and came back fresh for the Arsenal game. Just my opinion though.

As I said a few weeks ago, the van persie deal made wenger step up his attempt to hijack the sahin deal although I always expected it to be completed. Now the final piece of business that liverpool will complete will be deadline day deal for clint dempsey although I expected to be outpriced it seems the deal will still be happening and that will be all for the transfer window I still expect agger and carroll to stay!

Eds, now you have seen Assaidi in training now he's had a session at Melwood. Does he excite you all or is it a little early to gauge how good he is?
StevieC

Wat a silly question, form your own opinion
Tommy.

Whats so silly about that question? I've only seen you tube clips of Assaidi and you can't judge a player by watching selected clips. I'm on the understanding that one or two of the eds are scouts...I would judge their opinions over a video clip.

27 Aug 2012 15:59:44
I'll be quite happy the day I see Allen, Shelvey and suso as our midfield!

Marc

Think its a bit early to be sounding the death knell for Lucas la. But seeing how good Allen was in playing the DM role it would be tasty. Would like to see Allen play in the role he was gonna do before Lucas came off. Might be the guy to find some killer through balls and set some chances up for the front men, defo capable of doing it in my opinion..

Allen to be our player of the season.
Stirling to be our young player of the year.
I still think 4th is a big ask but we are going to be proud of our players come the end of the season.
That's my early predictions anyway.

Please post yours below.

MIKEY

I dont 4th is a big ask because arsenal and tottenham will struggle this season so i think us and { small club } newcastle can get 4th spot.

Agreed with pretty much every post you've made Mikey, I think Allen is exactly what we've been lacking in midfield, his link-up between defence and attack is sublime, with Sterling being so pacey and putting in the tackles looking incredibly dangerous. Liverpool played the youngest team since 2003 yesterday, playing against an almost fully integrated Premiership winning side and we had them under the kosh almost the entire match. Really good early signs for the way Liverpool is moving forward.

JFT 96

JP

I think we are going to finish 4th and complete a double of the UEFA Cup and F.A Cup.

Call me optimistic if you wish.

Tom.

Hey optimistic! I'll take some of that..4th and 2 trophies. Sounds good to me.

Flagg

Hello optimistic

I think it's going to be an interesting season. I see the bigger clubs like ManU, Tottenham, and Arsenal struggling this season a bit while some of the others I think will do well (Sunderland, Everton, etc.). QPR will be in trouble if they don't turn it around- they've spent a lot and relegation for them at this point could be disastrous. Aston Villa has looked pretty awful as well, so think they could have a problem come the end of the season.

As for us, much will depend on what team shows up for the upcoming fixtures. If it's the one from yesterday, we'll do very well. Last season our form was very inconsistent and I'm hopeful that things are on the up for us and we see more of the team that faced MCFC and less of the one that played WBA.

Side question- where is Sunderland getting all of this money? Fletcher, Saha, Johnson, and now rumors around Dempsey? Seems an awful big outlay for them?

RDL

To be honest I will be pleased if we make a decent challenge for 4th. We don't know how things will pan out for other teams, with injuries, form and luck so I wouldn't rule us out for 4th, however I can't see us doing better than both Manc clubs, arsenal and Chelsea. But a challenge for 4th would be a massive push in the right direction. Obviously I'd be over the moon with 4th

I fully expect 4th place or even third is not out of the question if you ask me. I see more potential and quality in our squad than in arsenals and I dont think AVB is cut for the premier league, Spurs will struggle.

Yann lfc

4th or 3rd next year maybe.
We are making progress.
Slow but steady progress.

MIKEY

Allen might be our player of the season, but our signing of the season is definitely Brendan Rodgers.

Kaizer

I predict manu will struggle , might not even make top 4 you may all laugh but RVP will turn up injuries and rooney's reached his peak and his attitude well off at the moment.

Our players are better than arsenal, I think what they have over us is Wenger and their team having not changed as much but ATM not a single player in their team can hit a barn door, let's hope it stays like that.

27 Aug 2012 15:31:49
I think we shouldn't sell carroll if he comes on he is always an extra aerial threat

I like the lad, but i don't think he's going to score 15 - 20 goals a season. We need proper fire power, and in Clint Dempsey we will get it

I think you will see Carroll, Adam and possibly spearing leave before the window closes. Coming in will be Dempsey, and another striker. I also think you will see another defender come in, possibly cover for LE

I a big fan of Carroll but If he not going to play why keep him when we could get 17 odd million to strengthen the squad with.
Tommy.

Only sell Carroll if we can get a replacement in. Dempsey is not a replacement for Carroll

Red Ollie

You're right Red Ollie. Dempsey is far better than Carroll on recent form and he's far, far more versatile.

All this rubbish about keeping carroll lets be honest even KK didn't play him that regularly he scored very few last season and isn't likely to do much better we just don't play the way that suits him and we never will i'm afraid if plan A doesn't work there is no plan B you just make plan A better.
stevie H

27 Aug 2012 15:23:33
dempsey is good but i think we need a striker to score goals not an attacking midfielder

mickey b {Ed052's Note - He will score 20+ a year}

HAHA ed052 is now nostradamus jus cos he scored 20+ last year u automatically think he will do it this season someone has his head in the clouds lol {Ed052's Note - nah mate, he almost did it the year before, and will play, no disrespect to Fulham with better players this year, will have more chances, and more clear cut chances as well. Hopefully we get the opportunity to find out. If he doesn't score 20 goals he will make up for it with assists,}

He's scored 20+goals in a season once and has never been close to it before, so if you think he's the goals scoring answer to our team then think again....i would still take him and be happy if he got 10 this season though wouldn't be too bothered if we didn't as long as we get a proven scorer {Ed052's Note - he has been close to it before}

Thanks ed, in all the seasons in the prem he's done it once. Do all the eds get time machines? {Ed052's Note - Yes, part of our contracts, as well as the company car of course}

I'm pretty sure he played a lot of his games at fulham as a striker, so if he comes, i'd expect him to player there or as a left/right forward anyway. agree will score 20+

I think the money that we do hav available should be spend on an undiscovered player and develop him i was delighted when we bought assaidi, i watched him last season well i wasnt watchin him i was watchin luciano narsighn cos of the amount of assists he gt bt ye he caught my eye theres more about him than stewart downing for me lol

Some people are truly clueless eds and aren't worth wasting your time over. It's clear these tools have no idea about Dempsey or his goal scoring history. he'll get 20 plus this year IF we sign him

Flagg {Ed052's Note - haha, thanks mate}

I watched a lot of Fulham games over the past few years and I don't recall him ever playing as a striker really. He was usually a LM/LF or CAM as I recall and one who always gets into the box. I hope we get him- his passion/commitment is top class and for me he's a drastically underrated player, mainly because he's American I think.

Dempseys best season before lasts saw him score 13 goals 12 of which were in the prem so in truth he has never come close to scoring 20+ before

To Flagg...if 15 including internationals in one year and no other Domestic years in double figures is close to 20+, then you are correct of course...however you are the tool

It's a big statement to assume he'll score 20+ goals the year we sign him. He' be fitting into a new team, with the entire team adapting to a new system. Besides, Suarez only scored 12 last season, who'd have predicted that? We can hope he'll hit the ground running and be a success but there are no guarantees

Red Ollie

Dempsey will not score 20 plus. Suarez scored for fun at Ajax, Carroll scored at Newcastle, downing even chipped it with his fair share at villa as did Adam at Blackpool. The fact of the matter is that players seem to forget where the back of the net is when they sign for Liverpool. Same will be said for dempsey

Can't see him starting every week so IMO I think that is what will stop him getting 20+

27 Aug 2012 15:22:58
Uh oh! Reports starting to surface that Ramirez to SOTON is back on! Prepare to be inundated by the "we should by him" posters. Ged {Ed052's Note - So}

Have made my mind on Ramirez, Allen is way better for 15M. Allen is the better deal rather than 18M for Ramirez. Overrated.

12M max worth

Sahin is so much better IMO, watch this kid in action, he's unreal.

Is there any current interest in Antoine Griezmann. I've heard he's the preffered option to Walcott.

With Borini, Suarez, Sterling, Downing & Assaidi all playing wide, do we need another winger ? {Ed052's Note - No}

27 Aug 2012 15:20:44
Hi eds,

as the transfer window moves to a close, and the last ins and out start to be decided rumours are starting to get a little wild so i thought id have a go at clearing it up.
Firstly defoe will not sign. And good thing too, if he's surplus to requirements at tottenham why should he be needed at liverpool?
Secondly Andy Carroll will not be leaving. Rodgers came out and said that he'd be a 'nutcase' to let him leave at this stage, and he feels the big man should get a chance to prove himself in his style of play, as well as Carroll being adamant he wants to stay.
Also Dan agger I THINK will stay. Another that has no intention of leaving, and although money talks Rodgers knows that to regain the success of past years you cant go round selling your star players, and the club is not in a position where it needs the money.
The position where i think the departures will come from is CM. We currently have 7 CM players which is pure ridiculous (Gerrard, Lucas, Spearing, Shelvey, Allen, Adam, Hendo). With gerrard and lucas being the current prefered duo, and Hendo and Allen fitting into rodgers style and with a bright future, the departures in my opinion will come from the other 3, and I have a suspicion shelvey might be given his chance, leaving spearing and adam out the door.
And the position I believe to be lacking is up front (The back 5 pick themsleves most weeks and have ample cover). We currently have suarez, borini and carroll. (discarding wingers such as downing, sterling etc) Of those 3 none of the have proved prolific. Borini is new to the leauge, and often starts out wide, and imo will take a little while to adjust.
suarez as much as being a sublime player, and his performace against man c was fantastic, he does have a habit of not being able to slot the ball in the net, as proved against the baggies, and most of last season.
Then we have the big fat geordie, who, again imo, is a fantatic player to have in the armoury, who bangs in the occasional goal and is a pure presence at times, but who is not scoring regually. This is why i think we need a striker to put the ball in the back of the net (llorente would be perfect, but the chances of that are slim to none).
No knowledge about the dempsey transfer, if i had to guess id say deadline day.
Hope ive clearerd a few things up

Technically we've got 8 as we have sahin but then take into account that spearing and adam are pants, gerrard is injury prone and can't be risked week in week out anymore also add into the mix the fact that Lucas has just comeback from a long term absence that could re-occur it means we've only got 4 cm's we can count on fitness wise barring any possible future injuries.

So no I don't think we've enough quality cm's but do think we have 2 we could sacrifice to the transfer gods in exchange for 6-7m in total, what's lassana diarra upto at the minute?

Notwithstanding that Gerrard is getting injured more often and taking longer to recover. I doubt whether he has more than 1 full season followed by a bit part season left in him before he moves on to coaching.

And ken aguero? will he sign, spotted at john lennon airport

Ken was only at JLA offering to carry suitcases for a quid. Incidentally, he's on personter believe it or not! 'The Great Ken Aguero'. I couldn't believe it either but it's true. RED LENIN

Watching a 17 year old take the mick out of Zabaleta was fantastic. Not only that but to see the likes of Sahin and Assaidi waiting to play is brilliant. Also, anyone who dismissed Allen as overpriced should eat their words too, the guy was exceptional, man of the match in my opinion. Liverpool's midfield is looking very strong now. All we need is a finisher, fingers crossed for Dempsey.

I hold my hands up and say i was one of them people but yesterday i take it back well done joey.

ACHILLES.

I laughed out loud with joy when Sterling made the City defence look amateurish. Haven't enjoyed seeing a Liverpool youngster that much since Owen. Also loved seeing Coates keep the league's best attack pretty comfortably under wraps, Kelly bossing the game in both halves of the pitch, Allen controlling the midfield, Shelvey looking completely at home and Borini looking every inch a hungry, talented forward. Once Lucas went off the average age was between 23 and 24 - very young, and very impressive. The best young generation we've had at the team in years.

Dani Pacheco will be out for a long time after he has suffered a long time injury ,
Best wishes to him and hoping he makes a full recovery

Cheers, Zincho

What has he done?

It isn't Dani Pacheco that is injured, it's Antonio Pacheco.

Oh dear, the Pacheco Suarez referred to in his facebook post was a Uruguayan one, dani Pacheco is fine, ignore this post...

That was Antonio Pacheco the Uruguay international.

Hello Eds,
seriously hope we don't loose out on Dempsey (especially to Sunderland). He is exactly what we need. Good finisher, works hard, good with the head. And if Adam, Spearing, Cole and Carroll leave I feel should try for Affelay on loan and try for a good striker in Jan. Any chnace of Affelay Eds ? {Ed002's Note - See earlier answer.}

Was at the game yesterday and just wanted to mention borini, still very raw but his movement was excellent as was his work rate, loved it when he got the kop going as well, that was awesome, I think in a couple of years we could have a real gem

Alan Partridge

Ancelloti signed him for chelsea . that will do for me {Ed002's Note - He moved to Chelsea long before CA.}

Well said alan,
i ve seen many posters criticising borini but i thought he was great and fired up the crowd,excelent movement to get on the end of sterlings cross and when he plays centrally he looks a real threat,he s not afraid to let fly when in range of the goal. i think s he s like a mini ian rush and i think he may have stolen dirk kuyt s engine. he ll develop over time into a top class goal poacher

p.s. i love the lad

tom1975

I'm with you, tom1975. I really, really like him as well, but I have a weakness for hard working players. Some of compared him to Kuyt (I think they mean it negatively) but to me it's a huge compliment.

He's very young and just seems so passionate for the game. Love it when him and Suarez swap and he goes inside- just looks far more effective for both players that way, although I think BR starts Suarez in the central role as his hold up play is better than Borini's.

Time will tell, but I think that by the time he is say the ripe old age of 23 he's going to be very, very good. I think people tend to forget he's actually nearly 2 years younger than Andy Carroll, as an example.

Still need Some work outs at the Gym to build up himself to adopt to the physicality of BPL.

Should play through center rather tan on the wings, think it would be more effective.

Hey Ed's, I just have a question, hopefully you can answer it. I've heard a couple of times that FSG want to make the club competitive and financially strong before selling up for a profit. Is this exit plan true? And if so do they have a similar plan with the Red Sox? Hopefully not too controversial, I'd really like to know. Thanks for the hardwork!
Daniel YNWA
JFT96 {Ed002's Note - That isn't really an exit plan Daniel, but like every club they want to see Liverpool to be self-sufficient. It'll take a while. This is one of the main reasons why CL football is so important to the club.}

Seriously....Look at Sterling yesterday.....
Now think about all the other youth players that look impressive......
Suso
Ibe
Ngoo
Morgan
and the list goes on and on and on and on.....

Just wait till these boys break through as well!.....
did i mention Sama.....

happy days

YNWA JFT96

Very true, but i hope fans give br this season to build up the squad, we all know we need to increase the quality of player we buy, plus it will take time to keep on improving on the pitch, i would even not worry too much about getting in the top 4, maybe its more important to improve every player we have, bed in more youth, and try not to make any bad high transfer price buys , i get the feeling we could be really back up their at the top with br, but please give him this season , and we will get there...............lfc

With all due respect, Sterling is a class above those mentioned. Suso is the next in line out of most impressive youngsters but he needs to show that he has the overall tactical discipline and commitment in order to play consistently well in the most demanding area of the pitch.

He will surely we loaned out to another Premier League club or a Championship club that play 4-3-3 possession football.

Morgan is a great finisher, a poacher and like Suso he will need to go out on loan to improve his overall ability.

I actually think Jerome Sinclair the lad we bought from West Brom and playing for the under 18s will become a top player,He's not yet 16 but he has already scored 10 in the 8 games,this summer.He is believed to have the same potential has Sterling.What I hae seen of him he's got the lot. {Ed052's Note - Agreed. He really could be a worldie}

Ibe is only 16 and looks as least as good as Stirling but a bigger build.
Another one if he can keep grounded

Ibes a good player but not starlings standard, sterling has more pase, better vision and a better final ball in the last 3rd. Not slating I've he is good but sterling will be world class if he keeps it up

ed any more info as to who we would look at to replace Carroll? cheers!! JF LFC {Ed052's Note - Dempsey}

If we sell Carroll we'll certainly sign another striker, not just Dempsey. If it was just Dempsey we'd start with Dempsey-Suarez-Borini and then have no strikers on the bench. As Rodgers keeps saying, we have sold players and not yet replaced them. Dempsey will be more of a replacement for Maxi or Kuyt than Carroll. If we sell Carroll we will sign another striker, guaranteed.

aquilani bellamy kuyt rodriguez cole spearing doin carroll all gone by the window ins sahin assaidi allen borini and hopefully dempesy sturridge and walcott wot a window that would be

Carroll stays IMO.
KernowRed

We dont want sturridge or walcott or if it comes to it nor dempsey.

heres my reasons why:-

walcott - sprinter with a pair of football boots no footballing brain wat so ever and after sterlings sterling performance yesterday he will find it hard makin the team.
sturridge - work ethic stinks so rodgers wont b interested.
dempsey - 29yo n being quoted at round 10mill to buy i thinks its expensive for some of that age.

Jus my opinion i aint saying im right.

I'd like Walcott, his pace alone makes him a real danger and worries defenders. He'd fit in nicely with BR's system. Saying that, i can't see Wenger letting him go considering the lack of firepower with the gunners at the minute. Sturridge is a different matter; not really a team player and his work ethic doesn't seem to fit the profile we're looking for. We may all be surprised this week (assaidi anyone?)

Flagg

Assaidi is like borini chases down every ball i personally think hes a great capture for the price and technical ability is fantastic close ball control has pace n a good end product still young so still developing pleased with the signing lol

In my opinion Sterling will destroy him {Ed052's Note - He will do a bit more than destroy him mate - obliteration may be a more appropriate word, or pummel, there are many words you could use to desribe it haha}

He'll probably be dropped if it was under Kenny, hopefully Brendan will show faith in the youngsters and players by not dropping them after a great game. Ala Carroll last year

Ben

I would go for "Shaft him " myself, the boy will be unbelieveably good in two years time but is still good enough now to be in our team in place of "Downer"

Hope sterling is rested against hearts ,give ibe a chance instead or pachecho

tom1975

Truth be said, Sterling was not ready last year, physically , tactically or otherwise.....

I dont understand this slam Kenny attitude...Nobody I ever know picked a side to lose...its always done hoping for better things to pan out on the pitch....

I will always support Kenny...Disgusting you call urself a Liverpool FC supporter...

All said, it wont be surprsing if Sterling fizzles out after a run of games...He is 17 after all...He is young and not an ox like Rooney(ehrn he was 17)... People need to get off not only Kenny's back but Sterling's as welll.....

Hello people. Word going round is Barcelona are looking to offer Afellay on loan after he was left out of the squad to face Osasuna this weekend. Afellay, already struggling to get games ahead of Tello, has been pushed further down the attacking ranks ever since the return of David Villa with the likes of Pedro, Messi and Sanchez all ahead of him as well. Villanova still believes however, that Afellay will have a role to play in the future and is keen on a loan deal, not a sale. Given that Adam Johnson (who was apparently a Liverpool target) agreed to join Sunderland in a 10m move plus add ons and with Rodgers still looking to improve his attack with 1 or 2 more players, could Afellay could be given a look in at? Clubs known to have shown interest in the player this window include Inter, Dortmund, Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal and Shalke 04.
Thanks

Message to Liverpool fans that was not supporting Rodgers after the 3-0 to West Brom. If you don't support him when we lose, don't support him when we play well and win!
LFC FTW!

What about if we draw?

Never won you fall asleep

The fact that people were devastated when we lost proves the fact that they are supporters, we support him win lose or draw, but we need to voice concerns too when we get annihilated aswell as share the elation when we play city off the park

tom1975 {Ed052's Note - There is a difference between being devestated and saying everyone, all the players and the tea lady should be sacked}

Some people come on here to moan about everything, be it the owners, the manager, the team, the results, the staff, potential signings, 'missed' targets and on and on..redburk, bosclown etc. If we signed Messi they'd say he was over-rated, if we beat Man U 5-1 they'd cry about the conceded goal, if we won the league they'd complain that we're gonna be rubbish next year, if we won the CHamps League they'd probably commit hari kari. These aren't fans voicing concerns, they're just clowns, the lot of them. It's good to be devestated when we lose, never mind who we lose to. But the only way forward is to actually SUPPORT the team, not snipe at everyone and anyone just to feel a bit less insignificant. Not aiming this at you tom1975 by the way, not at all in fact; but clearly we have certain gimps who arrive at this site to spread their slime over the rest of us. I find them pathetic, but maybe that's just me.

Apologies, rant over.

Yeah ed052 but i didnt think too many people really wanted everyone sacked, a little bit of realism is required, i m looking forward to seeing where we are after 10-15 games and having played some of the lesser sides at home and some tough away game like sunderland

To those "fans" who dismissed joe Allen as an average player, I was at the game yesterday & he was outstanding & at 22 years of age his football intelligence,passing ability & maturity is jaw dropping also shelves did really well when coming on as did sterling,Kelly & borini think we will have a few more ups & downs as players gel & learn the system & let's give brendan the support(vocally at anfield) & time required think he is the right man with the right philosophy..... Paisley's genius

Just wanted to get edds thoughts on possibility of signing dembele from fulham, what are the chances and what would he cost. He seems a much better player than Dempsey I reckon he woul be perfect for us.... {Ed052's Note - Demblele no chance in a million years}

Why do you think so Ed 052 ? {Ed052's Note - Cost, and he isn't a player we need. We need someone to score - not to create. And if he did move, he would have a choice of many options}

He d make a good replacement for stevie though!!

27 Aug 2012 13:40:31
Ed's are Newcastle still interested in AC,I'd love to keep him unless he really wants to go and we get £20million plus for him,I think we should lead Newcastle on until the last minute and then pull the plug on the deal,pardew is trying to mug us off saying he's not interested and that he's looking for someone younger to try to get the price down. {Ed052's Note - Yes}

Spot on, one of the other posters made a valid point, Ba and Cisse will leave for the ACN's in the new year, he doesn't have quality back up in his squad and he hasn't recruited one in this window. All of which should tell us they really want AC, I have know problem with BR moving him on but I want them to stick to their asking price which is fair based on Quality, age and international appearances. BR can lay down a marker for how we intend to do transfer business, he will be in demand from more clubs come January, especially those in the CL. Ged

27 Aug 2012 13:40:27
Newcastle - Offer Cisse and you can have Carroll back!! Never mind £9.5 and Ba. Ba is not the solution.....

Cisse is just as bad a Ba though?

Inter complete Pereira deal, Nagatomo to Liverpool?

The Japanese international is a very accomplished player who can play left and right back, is full of pace, has good ball control, passing ability and scored 4 goals last season.

With the injury record of Kelly, Johnson and Robinson and with also Enrique needing competition, Nagatomo seems the perfect fit although it may take a bid of GBP 10m+ to land him. {Ed002's Note -

It was against City though, they did defend pretty well

It will come. Remember man c goals came from our mistakes.. I'd rather get goals from set pieces then that

Well aren't we being abit choosy about where goals come from, if from defensive mistakes we had a few opportunities in the game to capitalize on citeh mistakes but didn't and set pieces should be used to get goals what else would any of you use them for? last season we had tons of set pieces and how many goals did we get from them? I do concede on the fact that we need to finish our chances from open play but we do create an awful lot we just need to be more clinical. Tell you what Borini is going to be a 20 plus scorer his movement in and around the box is genius.

Great match yesterday. To tell you the truth i was expecting the worst before the game but now i am so much more optimistic. There is no doubt that joe allen had an excellent game but i thought jonjo was equally excellent. With the addition of sahin i can now barely wait for the arsenal game. sterling, where do i start... i was a bit worried for him before but he has truly shown he is one of the future stars. no disrespect to downing but i thought sterling was way better than downing has been since he has arrived.

a lot of people have been moaning about reina but i thought he had a good game yesterday. ok he missed the cross for the 1st goal but kelly is equally culpable. Reina also played a good game against hearts.

All in all i'll take the point but now i am expecting a win against arsenal oh not to forget the midweek game against hearts where we'll hopefully see assaidi and sahin.

come on Liverpool

hi all

ed/s just want to get an honest opinion. In 3 years time who do you feel will be better out of cleverly or allen. both are good players in my opinion but hard to say who will excel more.

ynwa
------------------------------------

liverpool fans will say allen and united fans will say cleverley..

but they are both very good young players with bags of potential, they are also very different players, allen is a deep lying playmaker and cleverley is more of a forward thinker and likes to get the ball forward.

JK92

Is that a joke JK92? Cleverly is overrated + Allen looks a class above him. Which he proved in the Olympics. Shelvey is just as good if not better than Cleverly.

Cleverly is not as good as you Mancs think but he's the best of a bad lot.

Hi Eds

I'm a season ticket holder and at the game yesterday was really impressed by the way we set up and outplayed Citeh. Mancini must have been watching a different game yesterday saying they deserved a draw.

However, I'm gonna be controversial and tell everyone that's now saying what a fantastic team we are, to calm down a little, especially after it was all the doom mongers that had their say last week.

Yes we played well but for example Borini is not a winger and never will be (hope this is not Kuyt revisited being played out of his natural position) and we still cry out for a goal poacher but the highlights for me were Coates (new Hyypia in the making) and Sterling but for god's sake guys it's one game!! Like last week v WBA it was one game and look at the reaction after that one!

Last season at Anfield we again raised our game and outplayed Citeh and the likes of Arsenal, the Chelski rent boys, the and the blue rubbishe but still only won two of those games and how many points did we drop at home against average sides...... so all I'm saying is we aren't a top 4 potential side right now and the reality is we have one point from two games...remember our neighbours have 6 points after a very similar opening two games in terms of difficulty and all of the 'big' sides are ahead of us!

My point is that we should all look in about 10-15 games time and judge us then, as I'm still to be convinced that we can play week in week out with the kind of tempo we did yesterday, when we come up away from home against the likes of Sunderland, Norwich and Swansea in the next few weeks. Take these to the cleaners (which we should be looking to do) and then yeah we might have a real good team on our hands.

So let's enjoy yesterday's performance but please guys let's stop the totally over the top negative rants like last week and the way over optimistic rants this week until things settle down and we can see how good this team really is!

Whatever....keep the faith!

Paul B

As well as we played yesterday we have to remember we're yet to score from open play too. lets create more clear cut chances with such a hugh tempo

Good post paul
highs and lows of a football season, doom one week elation the next,you arent gonna deny us the rollercoaster of emotions are you? lets see how we do away to sunderland and against some of the weaker teams at home and then we ll seewhere we are at

tom1975

Borini isn't a winger? so what, BR does'nt play with out and out wingers, we tried wingers last season mate with downing and look where it got us.Rogers will use four attacking players out of suarez,borini,gerrard,dempsey,assaidi,sterling,suso,dowing,cole,with 3 upfront and one in support from the middle, then two CM's out of sahin,allen,lucas,shelvey,henderson,adam,

I think BR has it sorted, carol is good but doesn't fit in as he can only play in one posistion so if the rumours of dempsey and possibly another striker are true we should be in for a lot of good football this season!! I think we possibly may see some cover for the left aswell, another attacking LWB, a bit of competition for enrique as we now know BR doesn't see Robinson as adequate cover just yet else he would have started when enrique was injured.Hope we see a bit of Suso soon aswell!!

RedMurf

Cheers Tom and I love the roller coaster of emotions....sometimes we all need to take a step back that's all!

Hey Murf....Rodgers doesn't play with out and out wingers...what about Swansea last year, no wingers there then? Where did Sterling play yesterday....as an out out winger as did Borini! My point about Borini is he's not got the pace to get round defenders and whip a cross in and to be fair he was no better than average yesterday....he's a forward pure and simple. The fans want out and out wingers with pace to balance the team out mate.

Out and out wingers to cross the ball to who exactly? Big Andy is on his way mate, BR is trying to buy players who have alot more to their game than simply being able to play one posisition, interchange will be massive this season, all our forwards will ideally be able to play across the front 3 and all our midfielders will ideally be able to play anywhere in the middle 3, the possibilities are endless and the combinations will cause oppositions hell this season, BR will get the team playing again and his signings so far have been very astute, borini,assaidi,allen and sahin are all very skilful players both with their technique and also their tactical side to the game, all 4 are able to play anywhere in their attacking or midfield roles, BR is a very clever manager indeed.

RedMurf

Borini is class, had a fantastic game mate,sterling is more than simply an out and out winger, he has a tonne of goals in him, would you call messi a winger? Or is he just an amazing footballer who can play in more than one posistion?

Not disagreeing with you Murf just saying that Borini played pretty much all of the game yesterday wide on right and to me looked lack lustre and was easily knocked off the ball and to be honest he looked unfit. He did a few good things sure (the through ball to Suarez for one) but his overall contribution for me wasn't great. His position is down the middle making runs in the channels and getting behind the defence which is what he did at Roma. The jury is out for now from what I've seen.

Ermmm Messi and Sterling in the same sentence.....hold on! Messi is not a winger, Sterling played as a winger yesterday which was the poster's point!

If we sell Carroll Eds, could we go for a world class striker ie 30m + ??

Thanks RobJ {Ed002's Note - Like who?}

Llorente 20 mill
Cavani 25 mill overrated
Van wolfswinkel 12 mill
David villa 20 mill
Higuain 25 mill
Lewandowski 20 mill
Damiao 20 mill
Soldado 20 mill

Cavani overated haha proberly the worst comment ive seen on this site! 60+ goals in just over 100 games

Cavani would struggle in the prem imo

I'd score 60+ goals playing for Napoli with Lavezzi and Hamsik. Cavani is yet to produce internationally and at the olympics was aweful.

However he is valued at about 40m in real life somehow. Just an South American Gomez but not as good.

PS Di Natale and Ibrahimovic constanly outscored him Serie A, all 3 of the ;ast seasons. He has never won Golden Boot.

Ben

More likely aubameyang, gamiero available for under 10million

I've heard fernando Suarez is coming to Liverpool from rangers can you confirm if this is real ed? Also from my very close sources, andy Carroll is moving to Spain in a straight swap for cesc Rooney, they also said they would chuck in a further 15 mil, Daniel Sturridge is also coming to Liverpool In a straight swap for Brendan rogers. Cheers the official miles keato

Not funny atol

If and its now a questionable If but if we are going to try and buy Dempsey then surely now is the time and not wait until Transfer deadline day. Obviously Dempsey can no longer stay at Fulham and waiting until now has surely brought his price down, but I just worry someone will put a cheeky bid in and pip us to the post as Dempsey will be worried about being left in limbo.

Surely its time to show our hand and let the player know (officially ahem!) that we want him. I think Jol and Fulham have no choice but to negotiate.

Come on Reds lets not let another slip through our fingers.

Kev the Red

Who that you know we where actually in for have we let slip through our fingers? Ged

The icelandic kid who went to Spurs. Instead of wrapping up the deal with someone who wanted to sign. We waited and waited and then his head was turned once someone offered more money. (personally I thought he was over rated.) Which is the point im trying to make, lets not wait any longer it could prove costly.
What if he signs for someone else then transfer dead line day we receive an offer for Carroll? We will be held to ransom over any striker we show an interest in like we did 18 months ago.

Kev the Red

To qualify for champions league spot I feel we need atleast 69 points. Thats 20 wins and 9 draws. With our poor Away form. We cannot afford more slip-ups at home. Let me know what you think.
PKM

Correct me if I'm wrong , but did we not get more points away from home last season.

LAVERS

Poor away form? We've only played 1 away match so far this season haha. To get into the top 4 all we need to do is take it one game at a time, last season players weren't focused on games against Blackburn etc, we need to keep the focus for every game and put 100% effort in like yesterday... Consistency now is what we need to make top 4.

Rocky

Anything over 60 is a good season this year

Surely we can win at least half our games.

Reports are saying it was Kelly's mistake for the first goal but surely Reina should have punched it away first, anyway I thought the whole team did excellant bring on Hearts and Arsenal.
KernowRed

From what I seen, skerts got a head to it before pepe could fist it away..

Yes reina should have punched it away but kelly is equally responsible for the goal since football is a team sport. No one player should take responsiblity and one can argue that stevie lost possession in the lead up to that goal. So a series of errors lead to the goal not due to one player's mistake.

amar

The replay shows Skrtel just getting a touch on the cross to flick it over Reina's punch. Reina should probably have called, but a bit unlucky. The deviation took it higher on Kelly's leg than he was expecting.

Bad luck...three opportunities to clear but didn't go our way

I do think letting Carroll go this late in the transfer window would be a mistake, as the stats on the liverpool website proved they tried playing a lot of long balls yesterday which I think would have suited Carroll's style of play very much. And, once introduced into the game which I think was far to late for him to do any thing amazing he did show promise getting into places were suarez wouldn't have and showed effort in the short time he was given. However, the game was fantastic and the mood around anfield was great with many wanting to give Carroll a second chance!

OUT:
Cole
Adam
Spearing
Downing

IN;
Dempsey
Butland
Walcott (depending on contract, he is a liverpool fan?)
+ proven 20 plus striker

Walcott isn't good enough, he's awful and should stay at arsenal, there are a lot of better players out there

Craig

Butland ? get a grip

Why is it important that he's a Liverpool fan, he could have come to us seven years ago if that really was a factor. Personally I think he is just angling after a better contract, pay and England are his prioritys, he would be a risk for us whilst we are trying to build a possession based team! Ged

ANDY Carrol MUST stay at least till January you will see a different player if he is given a run like torres he will be a better allround player given games

redfred2 {Ed052's Note - No, he must not stay. For the sake of him as a player, and LFC}

A question which will divide opinion. Who would you pick from Sahin, Shelvey, Gerrard, Lucas and Allen. Baring in mind you can only pick 3. To be honest, I'm inclined to pick Allen, Shelvey and Sahin. What do you guys think?

Ash

Call me Mr Controversial but why not Adam, Hendo and Spearing?

Mr Controversial

Sahin, Gerrard, Allen

Gerrard once again was Liverpools linchpin yesterday! Shelvey is not good enough yet, one day he will fill Gerrards boots but at present he is nowhere near Gerrards ability in all aspects! To even consider dropping Gerrard is absurd!

BillShanks

Because, Mr Controversial, the aim of football is to win games, not lose them.

Ash

Sahin, Allen, Gerrard. Stevie and Joe ran the game yesterday. Shelvey did ok was but is clearly a work in progress

Flagg

Shelvey's not good enough yet, I beg to differ,he didnt look out of place yesterday against man city.
Jonny71

Yet shelvey was poor aginst heart he just need tim to be consistent

Hey EDs!

This isn't a liverpool rumour perse but i was wondering if you could please elaborate on this "partnership agreement" between Spurs and Real for Modric?
I understand that this has contributed to a reduction in fee for Modric but but i do not understand the relationship that the two will now share?

Any information would be welcomed!

Cheers OredZ {Ed002's Note - Seprate to the Modric deal the clubs have agreed to an agreement that may see younger players getting experience with the other club, coaches sharing training techniques and possibly commercial links. Such agreements rarely get followed up on in any significant way.}

Is this madrid setting up the possbility of feeding spurs a few youngsters in the hope that they acquire gareth bale from them next?

No it's Levy trying to save face, he tried to play hard ball with better businessmen than himself and failed. The way he has treated Modric after agreeing to let him go this season is a disgrace as is the insulting offer he made for Isco after he just trousered 25m. The guy has a huge ego, sacking Redknapp was a strange move, I think he was jealous that Harry was getting the credit for Spurs revival! Ged

Ed do you think there is any chane of Walcott still if we sell Adam spearing and Carroll? I think if we manage to sell them players we will get dempsey walcott and maybe someone else? {Ed002's Note - See earlier answers.}

Hi All.... We are going to have to wait and see if common sense is going to prevail on this Dempsey transfer.

To me... It looks like Dempsey wants the Liverpool move and whatever Fulham come out and say.. they are aware of the interest and have set a silly price which we are just not willing to pay. Dempsey has told them that he wishes to move to Liverpool and has gone quiet after setting his case to the club which he is upset with after the service he has given them.

Sunderland have most probably put in the bid... but if we are lead to believe that Clint wants one more big move then Liverpool and their owners would match that ambition (for his profile in USA).

This one looks like its going to run all the way.

No Source im afraid... just gut feeling.

DJred

I think this is what Newcastle did with us for Carroll and what we have done to Man City with Agger, basically you don't want to sell one of your better players so you slap an over inflated price tag on them and if the other team really wants the player they will pay it, Carroll was maybe a £12m - £15m at best but still glad we've got him.
KernowRed

He will become a class player given agood chance at Anfield you will be glad he stayed mark my words better than NANDo

ALredfred

Where's the disagreement would you have paid £50m for Torres the way he was playing towards the end of his LFC days, he only brightened up when knew he was going and we all knew Carroll wasn't a £35m striker so NUFC thought lets over price him and see what happens and it was their good fortune that LFC paid it - so please explain the disagree?

Jordan Rhodes ticks all the boxes for BR and FSG, I think he will try and secure his services, young, quick, goalscorer, inexpensive, could be a perfect move for both club and player as BR will bring out the best in him.

hi eds, not been on for a while instead have just spent the time reading the posts, alot of which have been negative. i especailly like how many are in the know on this site it makes for amusing reading. (how you eds cope beggars belief) anyway having watched the match yesterday i just wanted to say a few things (if thats ok) stirling was fantastic running at the city defence however i felt the end product ie crossing needs to be improved, he will be some player when he gets that right. after losing lucas so early i did think we would struggle but joe allen came into his own and was my man of the match. coates stood firm in defence BR was brave to pick him infront of carra, took his opportunity well. borini i think is trying a bit to hard he wants to prove the doubters wrong, needs to relax, i so wanted him to score. i also thought that even though skrtle palyed the backpass that allowed city to equalise he was in the position that enrique should have been in, enrique was up the field when he should have been back defending. once we sort out the lapsidaysickle defending we wil be alright. if we sign anyone else and those that have been signed from watching the game yesterday they will have probs getting into the team.
billy. {Ed006's Note - thanks for the post Bill and I completly agree with most of it. Did you see Sterlings cross to Borini in the forst half? If he can consistently put balls in like that then we surely have a talent on our hands! Cheers.}

I don't agree with Borini is trying to hard? Id rather him try hard then just be lazy? Ofcourse hes going to try and impress?!

Steerling terrified man city defence they tried ruffing him up but it didnt work he was to fast for them reminded me of Heigway when he arrived at Anfield from Skem brilliant

27 Aug 2012 11:28:39
just my thoughts on a few things
firstly Joe Allen i thought 15mill was a lot for him but having watched him yesterday, i think he is going to be one hell of a player for us hes 5'6 and matched yaya toure all the way,pass completion of over 90% and not all sideways and backwards, forward thinking and a big heart married with good technical ability good awareness and still young, could be a gem for 10 years for us.
Raheem did us proud, excellent work ethic and always a threat made international defenders worry all game excellent performance.
as for the rest - hard to pick anyone out for criticism, 2 mistakes cost us, 2 excellent goals dont remember citeh having too many chances overall we matched and bettered the champions an excellent performance and the gloom of the week before has lifted replaced by the feel good factor knowing we are moving in the right direction,more games like that and we will win more than we lose or draw and teams will fear us once again.
well done lads well done BR and well done the fans a really good atmosphere same again thursday and sunday and the whole of the season

gra2966

This is the first post i have made that has not had 1 disagree.... you watch them go in now

Great to hear Yaya Toure say after the game that it was the most difficult game he had played since coming to England. That's what BR wants, to make a trip to Anfield a nightmare again !

Fitzy {Ed052's Note - exactly - Anfield is now a scary place to come}

We are going to take atleast 40 points this time from out home games....

Just hope anfeild keeps rocking for the little teams as well as the big 5/6
Jayblair89

More than 40 points in my opinion :> {Ed052's Note - 40 is 13 winds really. It will be hard.}

27 Aug 2012 11:17:54
Eds : Been told Newcastle will bid no more than 15m for Carroll and will leave it til very late in the window to try and force Liverpools hand. Do you think we would accept that sort of bid ?
Also heard that contrary to reports on here of Sturridge / Defoe coming, BR is actually looking to bid for a foreign player playing in a European League, Maybe Callejon or even Remy ?

YOZLFC {Ed052's Note - £15 m might be ok. The rest wont happen, I'm almost certain}

27 Aug 2012 11:17:34
Shaun Derry to sign for 53 million
Liverpool to sign micheal Owen 67 million

Thank you very much captain John boy

Saw a video of Rogers chatting to the youngsters in USA explaining the honour it is to play for LFC. At one stage he tells one of them that he will be on first plane back if he doesnt pay attention to what hes saying! Realy imposing and reminded me of shankly.

Very stirring stuff, this man has definitely got something special about him, I am impressed.

You can sense the respect from the young lads towards Brendan, and after yesterdays performance it was good to see Shelvey and Sterling coming out and saying what an absolute honour it is to play for Liverpool FC

Tel 1949

The player he says that to is Raheem Sterling. He then says the youngsters should have the same attitude as Adam Morgan.

Kev.

Try putting a link up so that everyone else can see the vid you are talking about :D

No he was talking in general and then sterling said something ("steady" i think) thats when BR told him tell me steady again and your on a plane.

I did put link in but unfortunately it was either incorrect or it was deleted for some reason. Go to u tube and type in Brendan Rogers and Sterlin, it will come up

Quite awe inspiring how he makes the point quietly but firmly... deffo shades of Shankly methinks ?

Tel 1949

It was Sterling he was having a go at.

Here is the link

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0FkLHhJHw8

Kev. {Ed052's Note - Its a great video. But, please all remember this is at the beginning of pre - season, and, since then Raheem has improved. You can tell this by the way Rodgers talks about him in press conferences etc.}

27 Aug 2012 17:04:46
I seen the video, he seems very focused and strict, we've had too many youngster with so much potential but just fail to progress throught lack of discipline of the years. Keep them in line mr rogers and they will make the most of their careers.

hi all

ed/s just want to get an honest opinion. In 3 years time who do you feel will be better out of cleverly or allen. both are good players in my opinion but hard to say who will excel more.

ynwa

From what Ive seen already, Joe Allen is streets ahead of Cleverley already, so there really is no comparison to make.

Cleverley is a different type of player, hes good but not as good as Joe Allen, who just ooses class every game.

Hi ed, after the game y.day Brendan Rodgers said he was hopeful of bringing in a few more faces does this mean there are transfer funds available or do we have to sell players BR stated we still need to replace players that have gone out! Are we still looking to offload players Carroll, Adam? And what players are we deffiantly looking at? Please post and respond tommy b {Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed from what has been said - expect one or two in and out.}

27 Aug 2012 10:02:36
Hi Eds

Did u notice how Borini had to get the fans going especially at the kop end. Our support at Anfield over the past few years aint the same anymore and it needs to change, the 12th man has to come back and we need to voice our support louder that's the only way the players are going to respond Borini really got Kop End going

Great game
Zorro

Haven't been able to make it to a game for too long but it's been really noticeable how quiet the Kop and the rest of the crowd have been for far too long. The vocal support for our boys has been a hundred times better at away games, as far as I could hear. Borini is obviously a true Liverpool player. These boys have heard about the great Anfield crowd - maybe about time the supporters started to live up to THEIR reputation. It can only help the team...
ND

Do you think we could get john henry to do a delia at half time next week lol.Tommy Irish Red

Mate last few years we have been mediocore and has really effected our supporters not only in the stadium but worldwide mate.

Seeing borini doin that was great..we need more players like that at Liverpool
Ynwa

More scousers= better atmosphere

Every thing was good from the crowd we do not need the players to do what borini did we just need them to play well .red mick tag

Personally I would be delighted with Dempsey and Sturridge as final signings this week. Dempsey is a good player and would be good for us. Sturridge is a striker I like, I like the fact he is selfish. I remember his time at Bolton when he was actually played as the main striker and scored a few goals. Him up front in a rotating 3 would be brilliant.

I have heard that Jordan Rhodes was in the stands yesterday watching the match. Do you think their is a possibility he might be the forward we are going to sign?

Hi Eds good work ladies and gents

Have to say the lads were great yesterday allen,shelvey,skrtel,sterling were great especially, if thats the best team in the league then we are definately going to be close to this top 4,by now i have looked at all the teams and if we get up front taking more of their chances we r more than a match for anyone, its just for me im a bit worried we seem to be up for the citys utds et al but when it comes to maybe wigan swansea were not as up for it now we need to put these teams away if were to get back in the cl so for me the lads have to treat every game like they did on sunday and we will be fine wednesday night football will return to anfield.Tommy Irish Red

27 Aug 2012 11:08:28
Hi all. Can anyone explain why the Dempsey deal is taking so long ? I think CD would be a fantastic signing and I don't get why the owners are pulling this for so long. How much Fulham wants for him? Is it 10mil? LFC could do it for 8 mil and even if he's 28, still has lot to show for few years.great player....They are trying to get the price down I know but they will do it until somebody takes him instead of us.What do you think? Who do you think is the most possible signing if we don't get Clint?THX!

Dempsey is 30 in March .......... {Ed052's Note - we might have got Champions League due to his goals by then though}

27 Aug 2012 11:01:30
Nice to see all the positive posts on here about our performance, makes such a change, lets hope there will be many more.

After yesterday makes you wonder where the new signings will play, theres a lot of competion for places now with yesterday showing how high the bar has been raised, it's not about 'world class'players its about getting the best out of your players and when the competion for places is at the calibre it is, then the players are going to have to perform.

Well done LFC

kevc

You don't start needing a Zimmer frame soon as a person hits 30. Age effects different people different ways. I'd take Dempsey all day for 8 milish.

I like dempsey , he has a bit of bite to him and he weighs in with goals

As a simple exercise to see where fellow fans think we are I would like to propose posters name 3 positions we need filling, for each name 1 ideal signing and 1 realistic signing:

Wing - Ideal Signing: Mario Gotze - 19 years old and the boy has it all, I realise it would be impossible for us to sign him but we can but dream.

Wing - Realistic Signing: Antoine Griezman - young, very fast, previous registered interest and available for a comparitively cheap price. Do not think we will sign him but would be more than happy if we did

Centre Back - Ideal Signing: Mamadhou Sakho - big, strong, good reader of the game, technically adept and young. PSG will not sell him, he doesn't want to leave, it is not going to happen.

Centre Back - Realistic Signing: Papadopoulos (Schalke 04) - again young centre back who has shown a ton of potential already in his career. Not realistic this transfer window but next summer might be within our means to buy him. I think he is going to be a top defender I would welcome him with open arms at Anfield - currently he is very pricey and that is unlikely to change.

Striker - Ideal Signing: Gonzalo Higuain - absolutely lethal finisher/poacher, has the prowess of Ronaldo in his heyday, guarantees you goals, is still young and would get into any Premier League starting 11.

Striker - Realistic Signing: Jermaine Defoe - I don't love him as a player but he would be cheap, he would fit into the system Rodgers is trying to implement well, he has scored goals consistently at Premiership level - he is a real poacher and something we are crying out for.

Interested to hear other fans own positions/signings they would welcome..

SMc {Ed052's Note - None of those are realistic}

Half of those will cost £30mill each! Dream on

Wide Forward : Ideal would be C.Ronaldo..
Realistic : Client Dempsey 10+ goals at least..

Stiker : Ideal Would be Messi / Aguero..
Realistic : J.Rhodes

GK : Ideal would be J.Hart
Realistic: GK from Wolves

The 'ideal' signings aren't supposed to be realistic, there supposed to be a player who would be ideal for us, regardless of whether or not it could actually happen.

A lot of talk in North East on radio channels and local rags of Dempsey possibly having medical there today/tomorrow at Sunderland. I we lose out on Johnson and Dempsey to these, I'll never live it down. {Ed052's Note - Well if we do, then we will sign other players.}

27 Aug 2012 10:54:08
Sunderland to make a bid for Clint Dempsey

27 Aug 2012 10:42:31
How many fans or eds think that if we don't get another striker then Gerrard should play as a striker he is better finisher then borini or suarez last time when he played with torres up front he scored 18 goals. SUAREZ PROVIDER GERRARD FINISHER in my opinion {Ed052's Note - We will get another Striker though, maybe 2}

I always liked gerrard for cf. I think he would be immense, especially now that the legs aren't the same anymore.

Spot on mate I will play Gerrard as striker rather then waste money on sturridge he thinks he is Maradona.Ed i hope sturridge rumours are not true he is very selfish and average at best. He will spoil our game and has got some attitude problems especially when things don't go his way.

Isnt it obvious that borini should be cf, with gerrard and suarez given free roles behind him. looking at borini s attributes, excellent movement, passion,hassling defenders he remind s me of a pocket ian rush, he s our number 9, then your creative talents in and around him gerrard suarez, drifting right and left. borini looked good yesterday when he came more centrally and his movement to get on the end of sterlings cross was top class cf play

with options sterling assaidi downing(he ll have gotten a massive kick up the arse yesterday watching sterling)its starting to look good

tom1975

personally i think borini will grow into that cfs role, but i cant wait to see a front three of sterling suarez and assaidi in one of the cup games

A few months ago, during the roumours that we might sell Martin Skrtel... I made a point that I thought he was actually a rubbish defender.... Now I was slated because he was our player of the season. I based my opinion on the amount of mistakes that he made last season that lead to goals.

Now I hope you were all watching... Point proven? Didnt even look up!

JT RED

Get over it he made a mistake!

No defender has never made a mistake in his entire life. yes he made a mistake. but atleast he stood up and continued fighting. apart from that mistake, i thought he had a very good game.

Kaizer

No you didnt stop talking gash Just checked and this is your first post, very confusing. Why try and come on here when most real fans are still buzzing mate. To try and bore us way crap about Big Skert it was a mistake, High risk no reward kind of approach and honestly if you have rubbish to gripe about after that quality game then your really need to get a life mate

Yet again shelvey was the worst player on the pitch. Really don't understand why people rate him. He's far too slow and loses ball often.

Neilp

Shelvey hardly lost the ball yesterday, his passing statistics were among the best, you must have been watching a different game.

cobra

Did we watch the same game...

T23Hero

Nah man he wasnt

So Wrong!

Lyndon

Is that all you can moan about, if so pick a player who didn't have a good game. Oh sorry there was't any better luck next time neilp.

Charlie are you upset coz you didn't get on.

I taught he had a great game

eire red

Your talking total rubbish shelvey had one of his best games go back and play FIFA with messi in your team

I love the way the guy has gone down and disagreed with everyones comments lol but yeah your chatting rubbish.. I don't even understand why you would point out one player the whole team did amazing

He didn't try killer balls like he was the other night,he played more like Hendo did last yr, playing it safe.He did what he was told to do you can't criticise him or Hendo for playing it safe, when they are told to keep the ball.Leave The young lads alone.

Were we watching the same game? I thought he played really well when replaced Lucas he looks to me like he is only gonna get better aswel.

Jonjo Shelvey was Liverpool's second most accurate passer with an 88 per cent completion rate
Adam

I thought everyne had a great game, 2 silly mistakes cost us, these mistakes will get ironed out

Must say I was surprised to see Shelvey come on and not Henderson.

Except for his Jonjo's inability to tackle, he passed the ball nicely, keep possession and went close with a rasping left foot drive.

I see him really thriving in the current system.

RedSG

What game did you watch you person?

Over the last week ive despaired about the negative posts swamping this site (which is great Ed's). What's pleasing about this post is that it shows these posters are in the minority as demonstrated by the responses. The inmates are no longer running the asylum! GED

Neilp just comes on to have the occasional moan, just ignore him. Strange though, you would imagine he'd be too busy over the summer at the circus to find the time to come on here.

I went to the game yesterday and I thought we were superb especially after Lucas got injured so early.

It's great to see Rodgers give the youngsters a game. I thought Coates,Allen and Sterling really fitted in well. Really like Borini as well. He doesn't stop running but he needs to play down the middle. Gerrard really had a great game but Allen was man of the match. Sublime free kick Luis.

We just need to cut out defensive mistakes. But that should be easy to correct.

If we can get this week right in the transfer market then we will have a good season.

Mighty reds

Yes we played good yesturday but we have to look at the bigger picture here - its the first league game at home so all the players are going to want to try there best - we allways raise are game against the top teams exactly like last season - we probally played at are very best yet still couldnt win - we all have to admit man city had a weird team out there and never looked like the city from last year, they never against southampton to - away from home we will really struggle. Mike YNWA.

I was also at the game yesterday and was absolutely delighted to See Coates given the role of partnering Skrtle, and Sterling Preferred to Downing.I hate to hear fans say that the experience of Carra, kuyt,Maxi and Bellamy will be missed.All these players have earned my respect,but I am a supporter who have seen other great players get old and be replaced by a new set of players .Rogers gave Coates and Sterling an opportunity against the reigning champions and both came out of the match with their heads held high.Coates played well and was efficient in all he was asked to do Sterling relished the occasion of playing against the big boys and showed maturity in a lot of his play.Borini was another young player who I thought ran his heart out for the the cause.I think he will become great player for us.

Yes well done mike bring us allback down to earth

Only one more signing needed - a goalkeeper, maybe Butland, not just to be a challenger to Reina, but to replace him.
Carroll has to stay, don't care what club you are, you cannot take a 20 million loss in 18 months, which will be more when you add any cost or a replacement, the lad can be unplayable when given the chance, ask John Terry.

John B

I kind of agree with you on Pepe, i have always defended him but the truth is he has been poor for a good 12 months now, if you believe the noises coming from his camp he may well want to leave so lets see how much we can get for him.

Did anyone see butlands Howler at the weekend

Ter Stegen, please

One more signing needed and you believe it should be a back up goalie... Cos there is no way a 19 year old is going to take Pepe place for the foreseeable future no matter how good he is! The lad would a to be world class right now!

27 Aug 2012 09:45:15
Been told the two names Rodgers is looking to bring in if he can sell some players. Dempsey and Sturridge.

Adam has the choice of Fulham, Stoke and Everton to go to.

Spearing set to go to Bolton, slight problem with the valuations of the player but I expect them to reach an agreement in the coming days.

Newcastle going to make a final 17m bid which we will accept without question. Rodgers simply doesn't want him so he will take that money and run.

CJ

To be honest i do think Newcastle can actually come up with 17 million or so..they haven't signed a striker this summer ,they have Europa league matches & ba, cisse both would be of during AOC which would make them a bit desperate to sign a quality striker..

No way will we accept such a derisory amount for Carroll

How is that derisory , it's probably about 7 million more than hes worth , I'm a room fan I'll be gutted if we pay that for him

Played nice football apart from 2 howlers but still early days and if that shot from Shelvey had of gone in i think all the BR haters would have been eating hats today.

You missed a treat mate we battered city for most of the game . We had a squad who's average age was 24 years old and city had all the big guns out apart from silva who was on the bench ( oh and aguero injured ) . Think Joe Allen showed a few of city's players how to play football .

Hi Eds,

Just wondering now we are in the transfer window twilight Zone have heard that Dempsey deal now depends on us holding our nerve and which other teams meet Fulhams terms.
I am sure we will be linked with every striker under the sun .
I believe that we will maybe go for a loan or cheap deal for CF if Caroll does not go and it will be a surprise, just wondering other than the usual names who do you think may be on the radar for CF position?

quite impressed with the performance against city, certainly with Coates coming straight into the side, Allen nice and tidy, and Sterling was excellent, but can people stop saying they are reminded of John Barnes when they see Sterling. John Barnes in his first couple of seasons at Liverpool was out of this world, he was ridiculously good, and hopefully Sterling will go on to become a world beater like Barnes but right now he is nowhere near what Barnes was, lets not build the kid up too much too soon and let him develop.

cobra

John barnes when at watford was very simular to raheem that why there are comparisons mate and your right he will go on to be as good as the great John Barnes

Barnes was 23 when he joined Liverpool ,so he was bound to be better.The comparisons are that they are similar players who like to take on their opponent,Like to look for the shot.I don't think anyone is getting carried away and said he' as good as Barnes.I think he has all the attributes to be an excellent player for us in the future and he has 6 yrs development to come, till he's the age Barnes was in his first season for us.

Hey all
Yesterday after the manchester game BR have said hes hoping to bring in more players this week before deadline day strong and red hot rumours and news is that liverpool have made a final 10million bid for dempsey, daniel sturridge is set to leave chelsea after they signing a striker this week and the place daniel wants to move to is anfield because of the style and the history of the club, huntelaar is today having talks with liverpool with only 1year left on his contract schalke are willing him to join liverpool for only 5million, liverpool are ready to offload some of there fobbs like adams spearing cole and carrol out of the money they get for them they will make final bid for jack butland or nathan dyer.

Since brendan turned up we starting to look like the old liverpool yesterday game is the best i swen liverpool play in a long time city was just lucky we can learn from that and i cant wait to play the other sides at anfield the other teams going to hate coming to anfield like what they use to be like. Wont belong soon be the biggest in the uk again:)

How many players do you expect to sign before Friday night and who do you think they will be? And whos also likely to leave before then?

27 Aug 2012 09:15:39
We put the old Anfield sign up, changed the nets back to red, signed a kit deal with WARRIOR and playing more exciting football driven by a new manager. Everyone's anticipating the future with a great fondness for our club and a great hope. The problem is ............ Nobody has told Pepe Reina!

How long have we got to put up with reina he is making mistakes on a regular basis he cost us the game against city if he doesnt want to be here then sell him and bring someone in who does want to play for Liverpool

{Ed006's Note - Did you watch the game! Faor enough the first goal was down to him and Martin Kelly making errors. The second can not be blamed on Pepe! So by your logic we should sell Skrtel because he cost us 2 points. Reina had a good game yesterday.}

Reina and Good Game - cannot be used in the same sentence.

John B

Reian has always had a weakness in the air,he s the best sweeper in the gamethough

You lot only looking for negatives ! always looking for a player , manager ,owner to slag off ! ,really starting to p**s me off now ,always bloody moaning , if you don't like it go support another team ! ant

Can we please have a agree with ed option...
Shayan

Fans are sooooo fickle... Some of you are a disgrace! Same ones who booed Lucas I bet

Reina has always been bad at crosses. That's his weak point.the strong points of Reina are penalty, control on the ball, willing to release pressure from CBs by receiving the back pass from them, and closing down in 1v1 situation.

So I dont know why are people slating him. He still wants the ball played to him which is amazing and shows he is still a part of the team.

Next home game let's give him a loud cheer to raise his spirits if he is still in doubts which I am sure he is not. He definitely wants to stay at anfield for long. He won't screw up like a kid, coz he knows he can be a legend forev at anfield.

Mgz

Seriously.. Yes Reina had a poor season last year but come on man join our planet..

Alfie

Accept what ur saying ed 006 but you can see in his demeanor and his body language he doesn't want to be here! {Ed006's Note - I wont come to that conclusion until I hear it from the horses mouth.}

I heard that Reina is a bit of a jokester/lad in the changerooms before the game but he shows no togetherness with any of the other players when he comes onto the pitch.

I think that Reina is up there with Joe Hart as one of the greatest keepers playing the present game, but lately, Reina's body language reminds me of the months prior to Torres leaving. (when he said he wanted to stay, but realistically wanted a move away from our club)

Reina is great as the new BR system sweeper/keeper but does not look interested during set pieces. I hope he proves me wrong and improves this year!

came on here last week lads and said that we would get adam johnson when a lot of liverpool fans thought he could end up there well i have had a good word that dempsey is on his way to sunderland in a deal that will see richardson go the other way fulham will not sell dempsey to liverpool over the alleged tapping up not gloating as i dont mind liverpool lads and thought ye played well yesterday and like the way rodgers used a young team. think ye could be pushing for that 4th spot this season

Cheers for that! Hope you're weekend off wasn't too frustrating? You might be right about Dempsey however I feel him being in the last year of his contract is going to work against Fulham, it's a case of where does he really want to go? AJ obviously wanted to go to SAFC, it happened so fast! Good luck for the season ahead. Ged

The player does have a say where he goes - Adam Johnson, is a local Sunderland lad and supporter, lost all confidence at City, and guaranteed game time at Sunderland.
If reports are to be believed Dempsey wants to come to Liverpool, and will do if we put an acceptable bid in. He will not end up at Sunderland, unless it.s a last chance saloon with no other options.

John B

Good get on with it

Not trying to be negative after a good performance yesterday... However someone must surely agree with me the Suarez all round play needs to improve?Free kick aside yesterday, not a good game at all. His touch is often sloppy and wasteful with chance. I feel he has the ability 100% but just needs to take his time a little and not always be a 100mph. I think people who do not agree with the post surely must be on Crazy Pills. Or maybe its me :-)

It's you mate. Your missus must be slipping them into your coffee.

Its you suarez is a great player.Tommy Irish Red

It's you.

BR should try him out either side of Borini, if he has more options than just to shoot on site I think he'll use them!
His approach play is fine, dribble run ect it's just playing in the middle defenders know he's going to shoot, whilst if Borini is in the box theyve got to split their attention. Ged

It's you, his positioning was excellent dropping deep, turning sharply and looking good. He didn't have much joy taking on players, yet mostly he was up against Kompany who is the best centre half in the league.

Things will start to click soon with him and Borini and the goals will flow.

Papa G

He even said himself in intervire this week half is goals in Holland were lucky. His goalscoring record speaks for itself. Not good..

To be honest things he tried didnt come off yesterday but he never stopped trying

Suarez played amazing yesterday. stfu

Hi Ed, After today's match, I wonder, are we going to sign another CB? Or are we going to promote one from the Academy? (I know the following comment will irk many but I must say, Carra is a shadow of his former self)

P.S. Sterling, Allen and Shelvey are good
P.P.S. It's eerie that Macca got the attacking starting line-up correct. {Ed002's Note - If one leaves I suspect someone will be signed.}

Totally agree with the p.s. people slating shelvy when actually he played very well.

A genuine source close to Jeremy Menez (PSG) claims he had talks with Liverpool representatives last week although he played tonight, it seems that PSG are looking to do late transfer activity. Can you shed light on this eds as the source is not bs like a lot of people's are when they say it. {Ed002's Note - Sorry, no.}

For now that lucas just got inrued again i'd say sahin will replace lucas playing alongside allen and gerrard/shelvey.

assaidi will replace cole on the bench or sterling on the left wing.

Question for the eds - I thought tello wasn't named in barcas 25 man squad? Every time I watch them he's playing? {Ed052's Note - It's strange. Since not being named in that squad though, he has had more re-assurances over playing time}

Not unusual for players to be given more playing time and promises. The price for a squad regular will be higher than for someone not getting a game

Isn't this just because EU players under 21 doesn't have to be registered in Liga BBVA? {Ed002's Note - Tello is in the B squad. If there are injuries or suspensions he can get promoted to the A squad on a temporary basis.}

So he can only play temporarily? Can they change the squad list during the season then? {Ed002's Note - The statement is pretty clear.}

Special praise yesterday to Sebastian Coates. He was calmness personified and handled Citys big guns with ease, played a brilliant game for me.

hes great in the air and good with the ball at his feet, almost reminded me of big Sammi at times.

Credit to all the young guys Sterling was immense, Shelvey changed the game with his forward thinking and drive. On this showing Downing is now going to be a bit part player methinks, unless he pulls his socks up and starts earning his place in the team on merit.

Joe Allen, what can I say....this guys is IMMENSE, he will become a legend at LFC.

I thought Borini played his socks off, his work rate was immense but missed a good chance. These things happen, he will come good. The way he started stirring the crowd up was a great sign of a player with b**** to do that in his first big game at Anfield. Played in his natural position, he will be a star for LFC

Suarez free kick was just WORLD CLASS, Fergie must be really sad that noone took his advice, and stopped 'the boy' from playing for LFC. His work ethic is contagious.

Gerard started slowly but soon got into the new style of play and seemed to relish his new role, welcome back Stevie ! He put some great work in and constantly encouraged players like Sterling and Shelvey.

A great first game at Anfield, that we should have won, but credit to City for never giving up. If this continues we are going to have some team on our hands here boys, and Anfiled will once again become a fortress.

The crowd were superb yesterday, incredible atmosphere created at times.

Im a happy chappy this morning, well done boys

Tel 1949

Agree, thought Coates had a good game...

The problem with Coates is that he seems to make one big mistake a game, whether that be a giving away a penalty, goal, bad back pass, getting caught on the ball, etc...But what I would say is that he doesn't let it get to him, his head doesn't drop he just gets on with it. Hopefully with more game time this season he will settle and eradicate these errors out of his game.

dmedly

Can't disagree with that. Just to add, in Brenden rogers we trust. Ynwa

Personally i am hoping we bring in dempsey,he has that extra bite to his game also

tom1975

Excellent post tel,have to agree about borini, that kid has got balls,saw a lotof people criticising him yesterday but i think his name will be going on my jersey, him rousing the crowd didit for me,first game at anfield in the league,he may lack theability to beat his man, but he more than makes up for it in passion,i was impressed with everyone,people are rightly extolling allens passing virtues but for me the number of interceptions he made was even more impressive, we ve got a realplayer on our hands with him.withregards to downing, hopefully this is the boot up the ass he needed to get him going because if he doesnt i can see him spending a long time on the bench

excellent all round performance by manager players and fans alike

let the good times roll

He was good but he kept hoofing the ball 70 yds up the other end needs to be able to play the ball out of defence.

Good Morning Eds and Reds. From rumours I've heard so far both in here and the public domain, as well Rogers saying we need to strengthen, it looks as though these would be our ins and outs before this weekend:
OUTS:
Downing to Villa => 12m
Adam to Villa or Stoke => 5m
Spearo to Bolton => 2m
Carrol to Newcastle =>17m
Total => £35m

INS: Dempsey 8m
Sturidge 10m
Sinclair 9m
Butland 4m.
Total: £31m.
There may be other targets we do not know though but here is just saying.
Thanks with luv 4rm Stevenge

Haha thanks so much for the laugh this morning...downing to villa for £12m....I will fly to wherever you are and shake your hand if that happens!

Not one to complain, but I can't remember the last time Reina had a good game. He's really been letting me down lately..

Hit disagree by accident. Totally agree though. If we had the money, getting a decent talent in to put pressure on him would be a good move. Like Butland.

What would have happened if sterling got man of match, would he have got the bottle of bubbly.

Maybe he'd get a cheeky Vimto instead lol

After watching the games yesterday these are my thoughts...
First of all i'd love to know what the hell has happend to reina hes been poor now for a while flaps at every cross and just generally makes me edgy... If like rodger says he picks the team no prefomance then hed be dropped
But the proformace as a whole was a massive improvment... My stand out players were sterling and joe allen (wow this boy never loses the ball) And sterling gives us just what we were missing a fast trick winger with bags of pace scares defenders to death... He remindes me of a little barnes... More game time and a bit better decision making and this boy will be a world beater... Grab dempsey and mabee and goal poacher and were there i think
Rickblfc....

Drop pepe and replace him with brad jones you make me laugh.

At what point did i say replace pepe with jones in the post..?? I think pepe has become undropable due to no back up... He needs dropping for a kick up the arse but thts just my opinion
Rickblfc....

Yes a much better performance, one of the plus points was that Downing was left out. We rant on about Carrol, but Downing has been absolutely awful, why did we buy him. Sterling was an inspiration, and at only 17 wow. We are rebuilding and probably won't get what we want for maybe another 2 seasons, but as long as we are getting better and building in the right areas then i am happy with that. The repair job at Anfield will take time and we have to be in the top four to really have the chances of bringing top players to the mighty Liverpool once again

Liverpool in an attacking position - the ball gets passed all the way back to Jones - penalty - goal. These back passes have been going on all season - when are they going to stop?
Dutchmal

Watch swansea s 3rdgoal against west ham and you ll see why,2mins of constant possesion moving it forwards back left and rght until the opening presented itself and then bang its in the net

i have just watched the most controlling performance from a liverpool team for some time.
yes city were quick out the blocks but we weathered the storm and never looked like conceding it was are own fault with the goals (2 defensive howlers) but the performance was still great.

joe allen looks really composed in the middle hope lucas will be ok but sahin is waiting to replace him if need be sterling also impressed but the lad slipped out as the game went on and should have come off as he looked tired.

as for the front 3 in my opinion suarez should come in from the right and dempsey will hopefully be brought for the left still say we need a poacher in the middle think jermaine defoe would be an excellent buy and that front 3 will produce loads of goals

also hope liverpool snap up ramierez he can be a perfect back up for gerrard this season in the middle of a 3

and finally the 4th player i hope we get is jack butland its time reina had some strong competition for his spot

Very good performance from the team as a whole, too bad for Skrtel's mistake, he had a great game. I have to admit I was relieved , no disrespect, that Carra was on the bench, I think Coates did really good! Also no Spearing, Adam, Cole or Downing was actually refreshing!
Sterling was just amazing, at the age of 17!! But what I liked the most was each players' desire and passion to play and succeed! Keep it up lads and CL football will be secured!

Mornin'
Was a good game yesterday, unlucky not to take the spoils but it was a much more exciting game to watch.

In particular lots of people have been shouting about the youth (myself included) and how they should be given games.

Sterling was fearless on his first start
Shelvey was his usual impressive self
Kelly had a tough but successful game
Allen got man of the match.

We haven't even seen Assaidi play yet and we have sahin to add to the mix.

This must surely be our best shot at establishing ourselves as a top 4 threat at least.

Finally dawned on me that the exciting player that Rodgers was talking about was Allen! Singred {Ed052's Note - It was Borini, who is also an exciting player. I got slated for what I said about Allen, but it's ture. If you haven't seen my profile - this is what I said about Allen 2 months ago. I'm sure you all agree now!!; http://www.player-profiles.co.uk/joe-allen.php}

Thanks Ed 52 - but it was my personal opinion - Allen IS an exciting player! Singred

No rumour just pure football manager style..

Adam, Spearing, Cole, Carroll out, Downing too if possible, but not as important.

Sturridge, Dempsey and Walcott in.

Certainly not impossible and would give us great depth and versality.

Thoughts?

27 Aug 2012 04:10:11
Pretty satisfied with our performance last night except for the mistake otherwise good performance all round.The most significant is the likes of downing,henderson,adam and carrol on the bench. Roger sent a very loud and clear messsage to them through Sterling. "Wake up or i play the youngsters who work his sock off for the club".Brilliant by Roger.

i mean after the departure of XABI n masheranho .., 1st time i can say that, we have signed a midfielder.

this guy is special .

27 Aug 2012 01:34:26
we might aswell keep carroll now

newcastle are taking the piss with their offers

he's useful as an off the bench option at least, until he does enough for someone to take him seriously to pay proper money

I think we should keep him anyway, it's all bull about him not fitting the style just because he's over 6ft people assume he can't use his feet and you have to whip balls in to his head.

Granted you've always got that option but he lad can shoot too, if anything he will end up been a more complete forward if people start playing it into his feet too.

The same use to happen with crouch we just need to shake that mentality.

Totally agree. Carroll has desire, skill, and is a real threat to defenders. He is a monster on the pitch. He should stay, it will help him and Liverpool and gives us an alternative type of striker that not many teams have.

I predict if he stays he will become awesome, and worth considerably more than the figures currently being touted around.

There are many top class teams that would love to have him, trust me

Im not meaning to pick on him but im gonna point it out anyway lol but did anyone else think johnson looked quite fat and really slow today?
maybe its just me. Was great to see sterling getting a game today he was brilliant.
Well played today unlucky skrltel for the goal but the more practice they get the better they will get playing this way

Waaaat?! johnson was sprinting up and down the pitch toda at full speed

Johnson was superb.

Tom.

I'm guessing lots of people appear fat and slow when they play behind Raheem Sterling.

Don't make comments if you didn't watch the game. Johnson was one of our best players with Allen & Sterling

very happy with todays performance especially allen sterling and skirtle apart from his blunder obviously but we all make mistakes.. it felt good to see my team performing well again been too long.. and 2-2was 11/1 so that softened the blow for me a bit :D 3 points would have obviously been better ah well .. lets tear arsenal assunder next sunday ..YNWA...

I don't think skrtel did anything wrong he didnt have any other option, the problem was nobody tracked back with tevez and left him with a free 20yrds to run into.

Excellent game! You can see the plan that BR has for Lfc. Yaya Toure said this was the hardest game he had played. Well done boys, well done.

1 or 2 more players, a striker (not a forward) that gets goals of their backsides, back heel, headers, free kicks etc, we will definitely get 4th or even higher. Then one winger/attacking midfielder (Chelsea have them in abundance!). Is it only me, but I have thus feeling that we are getting 3 more players? There is a mighty twist ahead! Think about it! BR said we need a FEW more players. A FEW! To me, that means more than 2. Happy times again.

Good morning Ed/s and fellow Reds, been a while but I had been to Anfield v/s Man City and I actually had the privilege to meet the Reds Co-Owner Tom Werner at Costa Coffee just before the M6 Toll (I have a photo to proove it, please Ed's if you can send me a link to upload if need be, I am willing to do so), We got talking on BR and Mr Werner seems to like his philosophy and loves the plan he has, to which I mentioned, the philosophy will take time to implement and he deserves to be given the time, then he also suggested that Sahin was a very good player, and I said well he has a lot to proove, and I asked if we had any intentions to sign him permanently and he said, he couldn't discuss the terms of the contract, then he said that we have two more players who we are looking to bring in before the deadline day, to which I asked if Dempsey was one of them? and he winked with a wry smile as for the other player, he refused to give out the name when I asked if it was sturridge or walcott, but he said that it was a striker...

If this is true then that is wonderful
In: dempsy, Sturridge
Out: Adam, spearing, cole Pacheco, and (downing or Carroll).
Loan: Morgan Suso

They always wink, dont they ;)

There's a new sheriff in town, and his name is Joe Allen. The lad bossed the game from start to finish, and 15m could yet prove to be an absolute steal. I'm as optimistic a Liverpool fan as i've been in a long time. BR is saying/doing all the right things for me, i'm very impressed. It's a marriage between us and the club, not a 1 night stand, get behind the gaffer and the team, and we'll be rewarded. Enjoy the bank holiday ppl, and for those working...unlucky:)

He is damn good at keeping the ball. and hes not even the strength type...

27 Aug 2012 00:58:08
Can I just say to those who criticize about back passes getting us in to trouble, that the odd mistake that leads to a goal is inevitable over a season if you want to play this way. But by keeping the ball rather than hoofing it even when being pressured will benefit us in the long run. The only thing that happens by clearing the ball long is you invite more pressure which in turn will lead to many more goals conceded over the course of a season. So expect this to happen again and don't be too disheartened when it does because the more we have faith to play this way the better we will get at it. And over time the benefits will mean teams chasing shadows tiring themselves out. Of course there is a time and a place for a Carra hits the stands clearance but if we can be better than anyone else in the league at keeping the ball (even in tight areas)
then we will be able to really go places.

It happens in tight situations & tight matches mind tends to go blank & mistake happens...so no worries...

27 Aug 2012 00:54:46
I would actually be more than content if we now managed to get in Dempsey and Sturridge, with; adam, spearing, cole, carroll out.

one of sturridge, lopez or huntelaar as carroll replacement.

Would prefer downing out strurige in and
Keep carroll.

Sturridge is selfish and wasteful. He would be a HUGE disappointment on the Joe Cole scale of disappointment.

27 Aug 2012 00:54:38
What a game! Was on my feet shouting at my tv by the end for us to nick one more and all 3 points. I don't understand the whole " we played a bad City argument". They are reigning league champions and, besides being without Aguero, were at full strength. We outplayed them tactically and technically for large portions of the game and we didn't allow them to play the way they wanted. Besides the two glaring errors, I don't think I could have been more satisfied with the performance.

On a different note, does anyone know what Lucas injured? It seemed like he was icing his upper thigh? I just hope its not the knee again, he is one of my favorite players to watch don the red.

Different, different note I hope big Andy digs his heels in and tries to prove BR wrong. Awesome to see the reception he received when brought on. Was hoping to see him at the hour mark though, oh well.
EMAN34

Thing that annoys me is every time in the last 3 or 4 seasons everytime we have had a good result against the 'big'teams its because they played badly. Well, perhaps they should stop playing badly against us or perhaps, just perhaps we played well against them!

We made them look bad.

BADGER

I think it's "just" a pulled muscle as BR mentioned lucas felt it during the warm-up session so a couple of weeks tops.

27 Aug 2012 00:43:23
I do not think we should sell any of our players until january until we can be sure any new replacements are hits, one who is for me is sterling and he has saved the club lots of money maybe thats why AJ wasnt grabbed at all costs ,SG is still a great player but with our midfield buzzing they are all grabbing limelight so stevie- dosent have to do everything -which is just what our team needs -SALLY-

Nice and all as that would be there are obiviously players in the squad that won't fit BR's style or more importantly aren't up to it. Would be better for all concerned, LFC and the player to part company.. for the player to get football and for the team to get them off the wages. Not being cruel but some players aren't going to get game time, and they should be moved on, for their sake (of their in it for more than the money) and for the teams ( in this case generally for the money).

27 Aug 2012 00:41:33
I think today proved one thing and that is we need a striker more than anything who can score 15+ goals a season easily. Spurs have Adebayor, Everton have Jelavic, Newcastle have Ba/Cisse but we have nobody who is in that mould. Suarez has proven that he's not a finisher so we can't rely on him and, although Borini can finish, he's no out and out goalscorer (he's Kuyt mark 2 in my opinion). Therefore, by Friday, we need to spend big on a proven goalscorer who will fit into BR's system seamlessly and start putting away chances, otherwise top 4 won't happen this season. Despite this, today's performance was very good and those defensive mistakes will become less frequent as the season goes on and the players will only get better as a unit so I'm hopeful of a push for top 4. However, I think we will come short if a striker isn't brought soon.

Joe

Borini is much better when hes in the middle.

Its been a while since we had two decent strikers (Owen & Fowler?). It used to irritate me when Torres was injured or staring at the clouds that there wasnt a decent back-up, and the same now.
I'd love to see more of Carrol and Suarez together - it was starting to work well last season

Suarez is a clinical finisher but plays better from out wide when the cb's are concentrating on the man in the middle (Carroll would be my choice), when Suarez plays centrally he has to come deep and try to do too much.

Next game I want to see-

Sterling Carroll Suarez

Shelvey
Allen. Sahin

Johnson. Skrtel Coates. Kelly

Reina

I've not put gerrard in as it was a big game for him and don't want to burn him out, if Lucas is fit I would start him and bring sahin on at 60 mins.

27 Aug 2012 00:38:59
Happy with todays performance at times we really did boss the pace of the game. i was happy to see the team really cared about their football and each other awwww
shelvey impressed me the most, he was talking all game and his team mates appeared to acknowledge him for a change.
today showed how vital your midfield are if you want achieve things

27 Aug 2012 00:27:28

Liverpool will sell agger and carrol. This money will enable rodgers to have a kitty of £40 million. Dawson to sign for £8m, ramirez to sign for £9m, leaving £23 for a striker, that striker will be Llorente, watch this space.

No, no, no, no. Utterly wrong for so many reasons

boot room blarney- firstly well done to all the lads played well and i think their reward should be that they all stay in for the game against Arsenal and the players shouldnt be changed unless there is an injury or one of these dose not play well,sahin and whoever is on bench including Agger should wait for their chance and we havent seen sahin play yet in premiership i think we should have a good look at him in hearts game if fit , the places in the team for the premiership games should be like gold dust with the motto prove it or lose it or if it aint broke dont fix it and i think our lads today very much proved it

Agger will play and Sahin will too if he's fit and BR is happy he understands the system.

27 Aug 2012 00:21:32
I have to admit when BR was appointed manager I was pretty underwhelmed. However as time has gone on I have been completely won over. I love the work ethic, structure and ethos he has brought to the club. It is the Liverpool way in the modern era. For the first time in 20 years I feel we have a manager who MAY be the next great LFC manager.
Look at his dealings so far :
Bellamy replaced by Borini
Aquilani replaced by Allen
Maxi replaced by Assaidi
Adam (likely on his way )replaced by Sahin
Aurelio replaced by nothing
I'm expecting a replacement for Kuyt, a right sided forward who can provide some width on the right. I'd also expect BR to bring in another striker who will fit the system better should Carroll be moved on
Overall that is great business, BR has improved the quality whist saving some wages to help fund some payrises for Suarez and Skrtel.

Liverpool played great football today and where very unlucky to not come away with a win, a 20-25 goal a season striker and I think we will have no problem with top 4 we look a lot better than arsenal, spurs and Newcastle. Great to see us playing the Liverpool way again... Allen was class today bossed the midfield!

Cheers

27 Aug 2012 00:19:48
Wonderful to have a manager who believes in flowing attacking football and plays those who deserve to play on effort and ability.
His decision to pick Sterling over Downing and Coates over Carragher shows a direction not seen at LFC for many years.
So many positives today despite the gifting of MCFC of a draw.
The future seems very bright indeed and if we add a striker in the next few days I at last see us going places in the future.

27 Aug 2012 00:18:53
Ok so the gaffer says he hopes for few more signings. I think we all know one of them is Dempsey

27 Aug 2012 00:14:40
I'd normally be gutted at the manner we threw away the 3 points today, but today I'm not. Why?

I saw enough today to convince me that we won't be beaten at home this season.

Allen was superb. At last a suitable replacement for Alonso.

Shelvey delivered when called upon.

Sterling will get a England call up if he keeps playing the way he does.

Coates looks more than good enough to step in to cover either Agger or Skrtle.

These are just a few examples of many plus points we witnessed in today's performance.

Forget the defensive errors. They will become few and far between as the season progresses.

With new players coming in, providing competition for places, things can only better.

The balance of the side has been restored. Its early days and it won't be plain sailing but i believe we can look forward to some very exciting times ahead.

I totally agree, remember Distin's pass that lead to the equaliser during the FA semi-final ? Errors will happen in our favor too !

Good Post.

I was struggling to complete my own post without people jumping on any average comments.

The team should gel more in the coming weeks and based upon today thats a good thing - Allen is v v good.

Full backs (apart from their 1st goal) gave us loads of attacking options.

Sterling for 17 done v well and hopefully will only get better. He tired after 70 mins but had the strength to knock balotelli down :o) and got up when he had been knocked down - fait play to him (should stop rumours of he leaving as well).

I still think we need a clinical finisher that fits Rodgers plans... Bit harsh to mention that when ur up aganst the league champions who've spent 1/2 billion on players....

We may have a few dodgy moments in the next few weeks but its looking good. A very young squad as well...

the lads played so well today 10 out of 10 for every1, yes there was 2 mistakes but we did play well, sterling and allen were so good, are midfield looks so much better, no adam or spearing, any1 think it would be worth send shelvey out on loan for a year so he plays 1st team the lad is class and it would benefit us in the long run

Is It Me Or Does Everyone Think Carroll Will Be Banging The Goals In If Sterling Plays Like He Did Today i.e That Cross For The Borini Chance.

GAM

Why do you start every word with a capital letter? LOL

MR EM

No because how many low crosses did carroll scuff last season.

Honestly think Borini will score as many as Carroll would have, maybe 10-15 this year, plus he adds a dimension that Carroll doesn't have in speed and ability to break up the opponents play out of the back. Not that Carroll's old, but Borini is a fair bit younger as well and will eventually I think be a much better player than Andy.

26 Aug 2012 22:15:45
Just have to say Joe Allen was absolutely incredible today. I was really so so impressed with his performance today i really for the first time believe that we have found a CM that will conduct and control games. He dectates play so well that I can only just start to dream of the type of dominance in games that will lead to fantastic results, especially at home. Marts made a blunder today that cost us dearly but his header also was absoluey amazing so in hind site done nowt wrong and is one of the best center backs in the league. Brendan will be here for many years to come and I for one am overly pleased that the owners have taken a huge gamble to take on board one the most technically forward thinking attacking manager in the PL. well done LFC and thank you for today's visual.

Steven Gerrard is the best player England have produced in 20 years or so but I think it's time he considers retirement from international.
He hasn't got the natural fitness or the legs of Giggs or Beckham and should do what scholes did and retire so he can play longer for Liverpool.
At current rate with internationals, I reckon he got 3more seasons but if he retires that could be 5.

Just my opinion

I just think Gerrard should retire from international football because Liverpool is more important, and always will be!

Cuchulainn's Hounds

I dont think we will get another 5 out of him but i hope im wrong.

Probably scholes on par with Gerrard

I know i'll get slated for this, but here goes, Stevie doesn't have 3 seasons left in the first team period, never mind with or without internationals, don't get me wrong, i rate SG very highly but sadly time an injuries have caught up with him, an imo, has at most this an next season, sad but true...

With us not being able to look at Swansea players this season, who thinks Michel Worm would be a good option for next year if Pepe has had enough and wants to move on? I realise that the new regime might appeal more to Reina but we don't want to be left in the lurch

Red til I'm Dead

Vorm is a fantastic keeper. Unfortunately I think a year from now his value may even exceed Reina's (or at least be very close) so not sure we would be able to get him easily.
