Hey eds, reading reports that lfc are in final stages of negotiation for sakho. Any truth to this? {Ed002's Note - I have explained what I know man.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Jay were have u seen these reports about that please? Eds is that true

Agree0 Disagree0

Well after tonight we need one in. not sure wisdom is ready for the prem yet

Agree0 Disagree0

Kelly not yet fit enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 21:58:04
with injuries to cissokho and toure tonight. we have next to no central defenders for sunday. only agger of any note.

This shows negotiations should be done quickly and not mess about for weeks on end!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree mate agree

Agree0 Disagree0

Martin Kelly?

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope so who will we choose Sakho, Alderwiereld, Papa, Ilori etc .

We still need 2 wingers in my view Ince and a proven goal scoring winger that were after.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kelly's not ready for a big game like that yet, Wisdom would fit in nicely but I agree we do need a centre-back badly now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just think we argue over the odd 1m and we may end up potentially losing 3 or 6 points in the league which may cost a Cl place worth up to 40m!

Agree0 Disagree0

Skrtel? .

Agree0 Disagree0

Its a must. It has been a must all window.
Banging about for so long we need a quality CB, a DM and a quality LW.
And to top it all Sakho, Fernando Reges and Konoplyanka are all available.
But hey ho do we have the cash from the mighty FSG!
By the look of the injuries reckon Kolo is out for a good 4 weeks or so and Cissokho maybe back Sunday or else for Swansea.

Agree0 Disagree0

Martin kelly isn't anywere near rodgers has said.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kelly still hasn't recovered enough to play against united

Agree0 Disagree0

Johnon wisdom agger enrique

obviously

Agree0 Disagree0

Is skrtel injured? {Ed030's Note - Yes,Seems to be nearing fitness now though. }

Agree0 Disagree0

Wisdom?

Agree0 Disagree0

Rogers said Kelly still unfit, think we may need to act quickly and get someone in; toure, skrtel and coates injured!

Agree0 Disagree0

Kelly not match fit yet

Agree0 Disagree0

A push for sakho is a must.

Agree0 Disagree0

Martin skrtel is ready for sunday.

Agree0 Disagree0

How would we mess about for weeks on end when deadline day is next week?

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 21:57:42
Up to now this pointless game has injured 3 players, tired out our 1st team for the United match and left us without Kolo and we have only Wisdom as cover who Van Persie will rip apart. I couldn't give a to$$ about this competition it's all about the league and getting that top 4. Suarez ban can't end soon enough

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Tired them out? Its Tuesday. Seriously, these are proffessional sportsman. If they can't run around for two hours on a Tuesday and be fit to play a week later they shouldn't even be at a league 1 club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree, should have played the lads,

alan50

Agree0 Disagree0

You are forgetting about Kelly, a good c b and the fact that we are not in Europe, winning the worthless cup
Can only up our standing with any future purchase from over seas and I for one would love to see us in a final at wembley again . Also being only the third game of the season amd the fact it's only Tuesday I can't see the players still being tired by sat . {Ed001's Note - we don't even play until Sunday!}

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 21:56:53
2 penalties dismissed, an offside goal given, 3 injuries and being spanked by a team that we should annihalate consideting our form vs their form.

I hate football tonight.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You forgot the fact we hit the post three times and played the whole game in second gear due to utd game this weekend

Agree0 Disagree0

Welcome to cup football, so relieved we won.

Agree0 Disagree0

We won didn't we?

Agree0 Disagree0

Only the league cup mate :) anything happens!

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 21:56:10
toure - injured
allen - injured
cissokho - injured

Now BR will you sign some defenders please for sunday!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If the owners back their manager instead of penny pinching then maybe we will actually see some quality come in. Fingers crossed.

Tonight's match was a bit of a mixed bag and if this carries on i'm going to need a heart transplant before the seasons out.

Agree0 Disagree0

We need more than defenders, need people up top to help put these games to bed aswell

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 21:55:39
Well that turned into a bad night with an injury to our best defender this season in addition to our newest signing going off injured. Not looking too encouraging for sunday if we have to play wisdom at centre back. Once again we pay for not taking chances. I think that search for a new CB has just gone up a notch.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

And i'm sure any CB's price will go up if we come knocking

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 21:55:36
3 players injured in a game.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 21:54:57
If we wanted a CB before, we certainly need one now - no toure, no skrtel, no coates.

Disaster.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No kelly

Agree0 Disagree0

Skrtel is back on sunday according to BR mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 21:54:33
Toure injured now, my god tonight has backfired massively.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 21:54:28
Guess the true reds will be very happy tonight.
Who needs a CB. We have KOLO, Skrtel, Agger, Kelly and Wisdom right!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Before posting, please think before you write

Agree0 Disagree0

Well right now we don't have kolo, we don't have Skrtle and we don't have Kelly.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 21:52:59
We really should have just played the kids. This game is going to be very costly.

27 Aug 2013 21:47:11
I sincerely hope that this is Glenn Johnson's last ever game for LFC, the guy has been an absolute utter disgrace for at least the last 12 months.

alan50

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree .

Agree0 Disagree0

Goodness man, put your toys back in your pram. An utter disgrace. really? He may not be having his best form but he tries for the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

I found him equally disappointing tonight. For a player who likes to go forward, he really has zero technical ability to beat players. He loses the ball constantly when we commit players forward on the attack and it hurts us badly. Second goal by notts is about as poignant as it gets.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't agree more. Everytime he has the ball the whole flow stops. I will pick Kelly ahead of him every single week

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 21:44:01
Hi Eds and Reds

when we learn its a 90min game and not 45, 50 or 60min game we might learn how to kill teams off,, too often we switch off for long periods of a game and end up getting punished,,, better improve for Sunday

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 21:43:55
Are you kidding me? WTF? The old malaise rears its ugly head. 1) can't put a team away and it comes back o bite us 2) practically our first team defense gets caught napping TWICE (albeit both offside) 3) physical team roughing up our "flair" players.

I'm pretty sure we will still win it in extra time but the confidence won't be as high going into the ManUtd game.

Ok, ok, rant over.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 21:43:15
My god glen Johnson is so poor I wish we would get rid. Constantly wasting possession by running like a headless chicken

Believable1 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 21:42:49
That is the worst second half I have seen compared to the first in quite a while. What a collapse! Shooting practice is in order for extra training. Now our core players will have 120 minutes in their legs for the ManU game. Let's win at least!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 21:42:41
Well that second half was an absolute and total disgrace, there is NO excuse for such a sloppy and inept performance. What the hell is Sturridge doing in front of goal? Just shoot for gods sake, he seems to always want to over complicate things, also I know he's only a kid but I thought Ibe was supposed to have something about him? He hasn't done a thing in this match. Manchester United will be laughing their backsides off watching this, if we play anything like this then we'll get hammered on Sunday, BIG reality check for all of us, very very sloppy.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Agreed. Ibe was poor and so was Johnson (again). It seems we have also still got our obsession with hitting the post too.

We'll get battered on Sunday giving the ball away all the time like tonight.

Agree0 Disagree0

Eh? - Ibe is Only 17 and sturridge scored twice, what more were you hoping for buddy?

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 21:41:00
Can't believe how sloppy Stevie G been with his passing tonight and will glen Johnson ever beat a man again he loses ball in great position, virtually walks back ignoring player wide right seconds later it's an equaliser .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 21:40:25
I'm sure the overly optimistic posters have just received a huge dose of reality? Beat Man U? You're having a laugh! They'll be licking their lips! Absolutely pathetic!

Believable0 Unbelievable2

27 Aug 2013 21:40:14
To throw a 2 goal lead away to Notts County is simply unacceptable. It doesn't matter that the first County goal was offside or that Johnson was onside for his disallowed goal but we need to bury these teams at home. I don't mean to sound disrespectful to Notts County but we are 2 leagues higher and have had a better start to the season. I'd rather we were drawn against Chelsea or Man City than the likes of Accrington Stanley as Rodgers we would underestimate them. Extra time is about to start and I am remembering Northampton Town a couple if seasons ago, I hope that I am wrong.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Liverpool won 4-2 mate - job done!

Will he return sooner to the EPL?

Of course not! It'll be decided tonight!

Believable0 Unbelievable1

27 Aug 2013 21:37:56
Disgraceful tonight, 2-0 up and it goes into extra time the game should of have been done and dusted before half time had we put our chances away, just goes to show once again how poor our squad is as a whole. Its obvious we need quality players and not squad players, hopefully we can get that goal scoring left sided player that Rodgers wants and maybe another cb depending on what happens with Skrtel. Ibe & Allen were both very poor and Sturridge and Sterling have both been quiet second half, its not good enough yet again going off this performance Utd will beat us.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

27 Aug 2013 21:37:52
Glen johnson is just infuriating. The same moves over and over and over and he won't get back and defend.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Too right he honestly thinks he is neymar

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 21:35:14
Just confirms everything that has been said before.
Liverpool will pay the price over and over again if they fail to put games to bed.
We also need more strength in depth as some of the more fringe players are not up to standard at this time.

I feel laziness played its part here also.
We need to improve, simply not good enough.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 21:32:55
Same old story, underestimating the lower team, 2-2 now, can see us losing on Pen's

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 21:30:59
Quick one for everyone, who would you have as a right back? Old Glen just doesn't cut the mustard for me, poor again tonight. I think ill say gash if i'm honest, ar fault for the second goal and constantly caught in possession and always gets into poor positions. Come on BR let's sort it out. Or Glen just concentrate and up your game.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You did notice that he was playing left back tonight right

Agree0 Disagree0

Ps have some patience people. Most people and pundits moan about England and say the next few years should be written-off to work with the youngsters and build a new framework and model that can be sustainable and create a team that can really challenge for trophies in a few years time.

Sounds a little like the owners and managers plans to me.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 21:09:20
I just want to say thanks to our great owners and send a reminder to some of the haters and 'doom and gloomers'. For me, our great club has always been renowned for it's great pass and move, free flowing and entertaining football. We've always (well in our great years anyway) played just that little bit differently.

I didn't know a lot about BR when he was being looked at but I read everything I could get my hands on about him and liked what I read. I do however, remember many, many, many posters calling him a Conference manager, not worthy, and calling our owners names for appointing a worthless manager and for having no ambition.

I'm watching tonight's match and thinking wow, we play some great stuff now. I can really see what BR is trying to do. And, I for one, truly believe this is exactly what FSG were trying to bring back to our club. We may not have the money right now to buy superstars but, I tell you what, we are definitely going in the right direction and I'd like to think that some of our great managers of the past would be a little bit proud of what is starting to take shape at our club under our new manager and owners.

Yes, Notts County are not a Premiership side but I remember many a cup game against lower division opposition that didn't go quite so well. And our first 2 Prem games haven't been too shabby and the method is becoming quite transparent now.

I don't think many teams will relish playing us now and it's been a long time since I've thought that. Our owners and manager may not be everyone's cup of tea but, for those of us old enough to have seen the great LFC sides play, this is the first time since King Kenny's first reign that I think we've been going back to the real LFC way.

Long may it continue and thanks to anyone who takes the time to read a happy Red fans post. YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Guess you dint see the second half! Toure and Hendo were class though, everyone else were poor actually, especially second half. We just doze off in the middle of the games. The questions is, is it BR's idea to soak up the pressure or it just happens. Its 3 games in a row that we've been unsettled in the second half and it would be better to start second half just like the first.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, I'm liking the way we are playing, can see what Rodgers is doing and although those superstar signings have not happened I can see us having a much improved season . Not sure we will make the top four this year but maybe a cup win and a close 5th . I'd be satisfied with that . Not happy but satisfied . All the people saying out with the owners and Rodgers need to chill out and enjoy the fact we are improving on the rubbish we have been watching for the last 4 years . Yes we squeezed past notts county tonight but do you really think the players were giving it there all with the utd game at the weekend . All the haters that have posted above need to get some perspective . Good post

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah good post as opposed to this negativity in the site. Yes this tie was maybe a reality check but no reason to overreact just yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

Post of the week for me - this is the first time we've had a manager that looks like he knows what he's doing and can identify the weaknesses that the fans can all see for about 20 years mate.

Thanks for the replies, it's nice to read some positivity for a change :-)

Watching the match of course but I've got ITV on in the background, what's wrong with Ian Wright? He looks shocking! Gutted for Cissokho, he looked distraught, I hope it isn't too serious.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 20:37:00
said it before, will say it again, Luis Alberto is not good enough.
Haven't seen him play well at all for Liverpool, no pace, gives the ball away by trying passes he can't complete, no strenght, and no place for him in the team.

At half time sterling, and allen looking superb in particular, gerrard, sturridge and toure all looking good too

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Alberto looked fine today.

Agree0 Disagree0

HAHA Alberto has played one competitve game - don't be so daft. It's fans like you who give us a bad name. He's only been through the door 5 minutes and you're already writing the lad off.

Agree0 Disagree0

That is a terrible observation Jak, Alberto was OK - there were far worse. Can't say I'm too confident about Wisdom for Sunday so a centre back bought tomorrow would be good!

eds I don't know about you but do you not think maybe next year wel be looking at replacing enrique? I just don't rate him at all. most frustrating player ever final ball is terrible. I though aly would have eventually been first choice because I get a sneaky suspicion that br does not rate him. do u think this season well be scouting left backs? aly c if he can reproduce his amazing lyon form in which he was linked to r madrid he be amazing his game could not be suited more to premier league

Not having a go at anyone, but what would be the point of Torres? Even on loan it would be pointless! We need a winger/forward (in my opinion a fast one who scores) not a forward. From what Macca said looks like Saurez is staying and we Sturridge and Torres is a striker. Not a winger and would be useless on the wing, so if signed would be behind Sturridge in the XI and if he got injured or suspended Saurez would definitely be the best option for striker leaving Torres 3rd choice at best. So would be a waste of time and money to go after him when we need a winger, DM and cb more. Mean don't get me wrong when he played for us I loved El Nino, he was one of the best strikers I've ever seen and was gutted when h left, but he isn't what we need and is less than half the player he was.

Surely if we've let Downing go, and now also Assiaidi has been loaned that we must have a player lined up to come in. I can't see Rodgers losing two wide men without having a player prepared to come in.

Fair enough Assiaidi didn't figure that much but with having lost Downing already he must know he would be left potentially short out wide.

Hopefully with Assiaidi leaving today a new wide player is imminent.

Good selection for tonight too only change in starting 11 I'd would have done would have been resting Sturridge and playing either Borini or Yesil if fit.

if we sell/loan anymore players we will be lucky to field a side :-)

It interests me if we are in for Moses on loan as I thought BR said he only wanted players who improve the squad. But I suppose by FSG selling as many as they have any signing would be an improvement :-)

FSG have shown no ambition whatsoever this window regardless of what we can attract. Top 4 won't be achievable with our current side no matter how good BR is. I don't care if I get abuse for my opinion from the Eds :-) as its been the same since they made the usual promises when bought us which they clearly could not keep.

Looking forward to seeing some of our younger guns tonight. Glad to see that BR has picked a strong side but with the thread bare squad he couldn't do much else.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 19:06:27
Maybe mata to athletico Madrid and Turan to Liverpool

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 18:55:15
With Downing sold and now Assadi being loaned out I am assuming that there are already transfers lined up to come in - with the hard work done and just signatures waiting (please!). Otherwise our squad is even thinner than last season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 18:00:48
Before it all begins again.
Has anyone stopped to think that we may not be in for Lamela due to Sturridge being just as good?. Ill grant ya we could do with those one or two quality additions just to bulk the squad up as a whole and give us the chance to rest the likes of Sterling and Ibe now and then but we don't need as much as most think.
Am I worried about whether the owners are happy to splash the cash?. yes and no. yes I am worried that we may not get the players we really need to crack on. but no i'm not worried that they have our best interests at heart and won't be held to ransom. so players wise I hope we get what we need but money wise i'm glad were happy to stand firm in an over inflated market. I think their more astute than they get credit for.
YNWA JFT96

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What are you on about? Lamela plays as a RW. Sturridge plays up front. We didn't go for him either because the finances aren't there or we simply weren't interested. Believe it or not we can't be interested in every player

Does anyone else get annoyed by the amount of coverage the Liverpool women's team are getting currently on our site & the tv channel? I don't support them & have no care whatsoever for them & it's nothing to do with their gender. I can't be the only one who gets annoyed when I click a tab on the official website and it's about women? Don't support them get your own site please.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Does anyone else get annoyed by the amount FSG moaners on this site?

Agree0 Disagree0

By that logic, do you hate to see anything to do with the U21's? Or the Under 18's or Under 9's?
Liverpool football club is more than the superstars you see on a Saturday afternoon. It's a whole network of people, ranging from the ground staff, those who train the kids, people involved in charitable causes and of course the ladies team.
I think it's slightly refreshing for the women's game, which is quickly improving, to be given a bit of attention. And even if you do see them as a separate entity, they get about 1% the coverage that the men's team get, so it can't be that much of an annoyance.

I'm starting to notice a trend between last summer and now this summer we let quite a few players go last summer similarly to this summer as well. What concerns me is we haven't brought in replacements for them our time is almost up and the places we need help with are cb and lw it doesn't look like we're going to be connected to anyone with a huge price tag and the mata rumours are just ridiculous he would never come to us. I'm concerned we won't bring in the two players we need and we've just let go of another attacking option although a pretty unused one so we won't really be missing him . I wish him the best of luck and the best of luck to Rodgers in filling the roles he wanted with "quality" but as it stands I can't see that happening as there doesn't seem to be too many options available at the moment at least options we can afford as well.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Toure?aspas?mignolet? they've looked quality to me just because they havn't got a "huge price tag" rodgers has proved you can sign quality players without spending huge ammounts lad.have faith.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 16:40:31
Still hoping (praying) all these Moses rumours are rubbish and we go all out and get a top LW and strong CB (Konoplyanka and Sakho). Both available and 30M would be enough to get the 2 but with each passing day its looking less and less likely.
Please FSG, BR or the scouts whoever is responsible let us have a real go at top 4.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree. It's only up to FSG whether we go for such quality. BR certainly wants and we all want a push for top four. Dare I say title. Only FSG can decide

There has to be. If Ayre is involved no fee and we pay half the wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 16:09:21
hey lfc fans.

question to the eds.i happen to think assaidi is a really good winger. so I can't really fault the guy. he's quick. lots of skill. can easily take players on. so what am I not seeing that brendan has in order for him to not fancy the guy?

p.s. hope allen plays against the mancs. he keeps the ball better than henderson. and he would be ideal for that game.

and hope we get sakho and moses {Ed002's Note - That is a Dear Brendan issue.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Same reason many other talents didn't make it. For example: Pacheco and Hammil. Very talented players. But got the lack of attitude to pull in enough effort on the training pitch. At some point and level talent and skills are good enough. But at the highest level it will never get you through if you don't have the right attitude. Simple as that.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair, the coaching staff have seen a lot more of Assaidi than we have and sometimes you just have to trust their judgement.

Agree0 Disagree0

Assaidi has got skill and pace, but his decision making on the ball and end product in the attacking third isn't there yet imo. I'm not saying that's what BR is saying or that I know more than him, rather offering an observation that may be the rationale. He beats players, sure, but the end product didn't seem to be there whether it was crossing or finishing. In fairness, he hasn't really played that often to truly judge him overall as a player or write him off. I hope he gets the chance to finally play and bring more to the table when he returns.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 17:10:28
I think I remember someone mentioning his lack of effort to track back and help out as well as his current inconsistent end product or lack thereof. The second is fixable, but the first requires experience and/or a change in attitude.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ironically, when I think of Allen at Liverpool the first thing that comes to mind is continuously giving the ball away!

Agree0 Disagree0

Kit Carson - spot on.

We just recently sold two players for a huge loss who had talent but not the attitude to make it at LFC level.

Can't help thinking the supposed Mata loan enquiry smacks of desperation as we near the end of the window. it appears to me we never had £25-30M to spend on a marquee signing!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What made you think we did? It's been mentioned several, several times on here before, but:

a) We have no set transfer budget
b) The owners want Liverpool to start living within it's means

Add a+b and I don't see any such thing as a £25-30M budget for transfers ever having existed and not even sure where people came up with that from.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well RDL it came from the eds i'm sure they said we had 15-20 mil to spend plus money from sales
I appologize if i'm wrong

Hi eds
With Chelsea looking for a top striker an we need a top attacking mid, can u see them coming in for a Suarez plus mata kinda deal? Would suit both party's.

Cheers mates {Ed002's Note - I have no idea. Mata has not at this time expressed a desire to leave. Liverpool are looking for a centre back, would Liverpool offer Coutinho for Zouma?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Liverpool value and play coutinho, chelsea aren't playing Mata. Comparison seems slighly redundant. {Ed002's Note - Mata played in both the first two games of the season, once as a substitute and once starting. Hopeless.}

Agree0 Disagree0

He's not hopeless Ed. I think you are confusing him for Torres.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 15:56:31
Any truth in chelsea preparing a 30m plus Torres bid for Suarez?

thanks {Ed002's Note - I am not aware of such a bid being "prepared" but Suarez's agents did approach Chelsea to see if they would be interested in the player and Torres is available.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 16:31:49
i don't know if that would be a bad deal or not because when torres came on against the the other night he seemed very sharp etc well a lot better than he's been in years lol. yes he lost the ball blah blah blah but suarez looses the bal 90% of the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure how you get Torres and sturridge into Rodgers set up?

we are becoming a bit of a joke at the moment trying to get players on loan (moses, mata).

for goodness sake mr henry put your hand in your pocket and spend some money.

don't understand the assiadi loan move either as when I've seen him play he looks half decent.

A frustrated red.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I see comments like this a lot, imploring the owners to spend, which is fine, but this is my opinion.

If FSG were willing to spend money on 'big signings' then the money would likely come in the form of a no-interest loan to the club from UKSV or even worse through adding to the bank loan already in place. In other words, it would be debt added to the club. Would most consider this acceptable?

Agree0 Disagree0

Quite the contrary.

Borrowing a player rather than paying a transfer fee for him is quite smart.

The joke is paying a 35m transfer fee, and then selling for 15m.

Except it's not really funny.

Agree0 Disagree0

We are NOT becoming a joke. Functioning within our means is in fact very sensible.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ianr1969, are you for real? Mr Henry put his hand in his pocket?

What's wrong with getting players on loan? Do you even know how much money Mr Henry has shelled out on the club since FSG took over?

Why do persons like you even bother? If you don't like what is going on, sod off and keep your meaningful, petty, childish comments to yourself

Don't understand so called fans mouthing off about the owners and the manager. Cast your minds back to Hicks and Gillette. If they hadn't have gone, out club would have been very soon after

FSG deserve massive respect and support for what they have done, and Brendan Rodgers deserves it too

You have no idea what it takes to run a football club and the sort of money involved to keep it going. Your probably a Fifa player, a know it all wannabe manager that throws money around to buy all the worlds best players. Doesn't work like that me ole china!

I don't think torres on loan would be a bad shout if we can't get the LW we need.

We do have a few competitions to play in and if sturridge gets injured we only have borini as aspas will probs be paying RW.

Gerrard will welcome him back and would add value experience such as kolo.

If sturridge was injured we could effectively play a front 3 of couts Suarez and Torres.

Is this a don't hold your breathe moment ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Can I ask where you would see Torres playing? That's the part I don't understand. He's pretty much only a central striker and we already have one playing there that is doing quite well. I don't see Torres being happy to be a backup for Sturridge- he might as well sit on Chelsea's bench then.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry - watched him last night V Poor

Agree0 Disagree0

Imagine coutinho behind suarez and Torres (if sturridge got injured)

no brainer if he is on loan

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually I was at the game (due to a friend giving me a ticket) and he did ok and improved chelsea when he came on.

Agree0 Disagree0

There is a lot of games and plus internationals, players get injured all the time. Sturridge does tend to get injured quiet a bit.

BR is a good man manager, he has improved hendo, suarez and gave the oppurtunity to sturridge.

I for some reason beyond think this would be a good aquasition.

if we got moses I wouldn't expect him to part the river mersey but he would be an upgrade on assaidi and downing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would you thnk Gerrard would welcome bback Torres? I think the opposite. Gerrard clearly loves the club, as much as any fan does. We all saw what Torres turned into. He gave up and went all moody so he could move. If I worked with someone who gave off that attitude and then heard they were coming back and I'd have to work with them again I wouldn't be welcoming them with open arms. If he were still the world beater we turned him into, maybe. But then he wouldn't be coming back if he were any good

Agree0 Disagree0

If he came back, I am sure Gerrard would welcome him.

In fact, I suspect BR would ask Gerrard first, and get his opinion.

Gerrard is not the type to hold grudges. Not even against Suarez, apparently.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd take him back on loan. What harm could it do. If Chelsea sign Rooney and eto they won't want him there. I wouldn't pay more than 20 mil for him now though

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 15:35:33
What about Torres on Loan?

Nothing lost and if he doesn't do anything good he can go back to the bridge.

I think they would probably finance a lot of his wages too.

I seriously can't understand fans having a go at the club due to these Moses rumours. Regardless of whether or not you rate him as a player, Ed002 has made it clear that Liverpool have made no approach for the player. Rodgers and FSG have absolutely no control over who the media link us to so why complain about "lack of ambition" or "BR making false promises" just because we are linked with a player some fans find average. Better yet, if it turns out the club are in fact interested, give the lad a few games before you make up your minds about him (positively or negatively). The guy has never played a decent run of games surrounded by players with Coutinho and Gerrard's quality. I'm not saying he will be a world-beater (or even an improvement on Ibe or Sterling) but on the off chance we do sign him, and the same goes for any player, how about everyone backs him unless he gives the fans a reason not to. {Ed002's Note - Just to be clear, I said that there at been no approach by Liverpool for Moses at the time. It does not mean that they will not make an approach.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I understand Ed, but just saying as of yet the Moses rumours have no substance so why moan and complain not even before he has played but also before he has even officially approached!

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 15:33:58
Don't get my wrong on this, i'm not for a second going to rip shreds off BR purchases, they have been some absolute belters. I would however be pretty upset at if no "quality" players are signed like BR said in the news. He stated that the signings had been to add to the depth and that quality was now the focus. Moses to me slips into the category of a depth signing rather than that quality category. I think BR coming out and saying that was a poor decision and one that raises the expectations of fans to unrealistic levels that don't align with where we are as club in this point in time.

I wouldn't mind Moses on loan. Nothing to lose really if he doesn't impress send him back nothing lost nothing gained. Good business in my opinion rather than panic buying. Mosses isn't good enough?
Wasn't he one of the only shining lights in a Wigan side that contained momo diame and James McCarthy. Yet last season people were on here crying that we need momo cause he is a beast and would be great for us. From what I remember he couldn't get a regular starting spot for Wigan the season before.
Also if mosses isn't good enough the how is Torres good enough? Can anyone really answer than.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What many feel is that Moses isn't an improvement on Sterling and Ibe.

"Shining light" at Wigan? He was quite poor in a poor Wigan side.

Agree0 Disagree0

Which is why he got a big money move to chelsea the real ag. I'm sure a team competing for things at the top of the league bought the lad because of his 'poor season' bit silly if you ask me?

Going to get slaughtered for this but here goes! Chelsea need a striker and it looks like shrek ain't going to go there Suarez wants out why not Liverpool put up Suarez + £10 mil and Chelsea throw us mata and Torres! Mata I rate around £30m Torres around £20 + both wages, Suarez £50m fair exchange I would of thought! I know the way Torres stabbed us in the back was out of order but was it really as bad as what Suarez has been up to? Torres needs to play! (World cup) and if he is a success he won't ever think of leaving like how he did last time. Gerrard has always said that Torres was the player he linked up the best with and it really could work again in my opinion! And mata need I say!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why is torres worth 20 million? Just answer that please

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually Torres and Mata would compensate for Suarez, they would also make up for his goals and add value to two positions.

Good post

Agree0 Disagree0

You missed the T off the end of your signing off name.

Torres will never be a Liverpool player again get over it mate. I would rather have Lukaku over Torres any day.

Mata would be a quality signing though, I agree there.

Red Rum {Ed002's Note - Lukaku is not available, Torres is.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha no

Agree0 Disagree0

Pfft - Torres is worth £8m tops!

Besides, Mata plays where Coutinho plays. we don't really want him. and Chavski don't want to sell.

Agree0 Disagree0

So you want to give them, Suarez (£50m minimum, more to a rival club), AND £10m cash total value £60.
And get Mata £30m and Torres who if you base it just on his goalscoring record, tempremant and commitment is worth about £15m.

£60m in return for £45m of trade. Yeh, that sounds like a bargain. {Ed002's Note - These are the sorts of reasons we stopped discussing money. Everyone seems to get very confused very quickly. Then everyone gets upset with each other.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok a player who scores more than 20 goals in all competition in a top level playing for a club like chelsea can be of worth 20 million .
But it doesn't mean we have to sign a backstabber.

Agree0 Disagree0

For giving the Chavs the best striker in the league then I'd demand Mata, Torres, Moses & £10 million then buy Sakho for £20million & Iker Munian for £25million & that would be the best summer transfer window ever. but as I'm not playing Football Manager I'll leave it to the experts ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Cant see Torres coming back this way, but would love to see Mata on board. 2 players as you say need game time for world cup. Think I would keep Suarez and bring in Mata maybe an even better outcome!

Agree0 Disagree0

The op said to buy torres for £20 not million and to be fair that is £15 to much. the guy is finished and will never return. the last season at lfc he was done. that is what can happen bringing players back early from injury.

thought sakho was for sale for under £10million. so has comolli changed his name to johnthered?

Are Liverpool stupid? I just can't see the sense in letting Assaidi go out on loan, sell Downing and still not bring anyone in, seriously what's going on? Our squad is getting thinner all the time and we haven't brought enough cover in to compensate. I keep saying it but a few injuries and we're goosed.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed, seems senseless moving on a player he bought himself and said was "exciting" and then goes and moves on two wingers without anyone being brought in.

Hope there is a bigger plan here as Assaidis wages of!5k were hardly bank breaking to LFC considering they've trimmed so much this summer.

I think the investment drive into our youth system is actually excellent from a business point of view. After all, the transfers of players can reap huge profits, take a young Bale for £7M and 5 years down the line sell for £100M. We have to realise this aspect of football is now just as important as television revenues, sponsorships, gate receipts etc.

Hey eds, A non transfer related question for you or any one out there. Where do we stand on the stadium? I know so far that we decided to redevelop instead of moving which is great news but is there any work being done on redevelopment? Do u think that's the end of that then or coud there still be something in it? Also it does suggest the we are indeed still looking for a player to come into that forward left slot. {Ed002's Note - I have no confirmation of a loan request from Liverpool although there was a request from another club. Lots of talk regarding Sakho at the moment. I don't know about anybody else, but I can't see Agger holding down his first team place if this happens. A defence of Johnson, Toure, Sakho, Cissokho would be pretty immense! I said it earlier in the year, but I am tipping Wisdom to displace Johnson before the end of the season as well. If he goes on loan, then Kelly will assuming he gets back to full fitness. We wouldn't struggle from set pieces with these defensive options!

YNWAdam

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No problem, I already deleted it for reasons you will no doubt understand.}

Agree0 Disagree0

If Sakho does join, I see him more likely replacing Toure. He has been immense so far this season but in the long run I see Toure as a backup CB.

Agree0 Disagree0

We will not have 4 central defenders who all want first team football right now on our books. If Sakho comes its to replace Skrtel not Coates. Ilori is one who we could bring in and give 15-20 games to to get used to English football.

Agree0 Disagree0

Adam I think if we got him (which sadly I doubt) it would be toure that gives way, rather than Agger

Hi Eds. with it all but officially confirmed that Oussama Assaidi is to join Stoke on a year long loan (after a successful medical this morning) do you think that anyone else is still to leave the club in terms of the main first team squad? It seems there might be one more out if Sakho and Moses (or whoever) are to come in. {Ed002's Note - Suarez is trying to leave. Pacheco will leave.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I am stoked we are not selling him. Could return next year after a years hardening up in EPL. nice move from LFC

Also would be amazing if mata rumours were true, I mean we have basically spent 25m this summer and recouped the same amount, can you see us bidding for mata, he would be an amazing signing!

Thanks {Ed002's Note - No. Chelsea have no intention of selling Mata. If however he said he wants to leave and a club were to make an acceptable bid for him, then Chelsea would not stand in his way.}

Is this wa this great club has come to we have to go cap in hand to chelsea to try and loan moses.so that could be two loans and a free.christ sunderland have spent more than we have.weve cleared huge wages rrom bill and the capitol raised on sales more than covers what we bought meaning we've spent sweet tuck all.rodgers looks like he's lost two stone with the worry of it all.because it will be his job when we finish 6th.fsg ain't supporting him and he's finally saw it.lets talk about ayre .he ain't got a ****in clue when it comes to negotiating any transfer targets.he comes in with such ridiculously low prices we in sult the sellers.hence we loose r targets.fsg want out they r bringing debt down to make it attractive for suitors.guareented madrid come in for suarez and as its so late in window we don't buy fsg another 45 million in thier pockets.no doubt ed youll rubbish this but let's wsit and c.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't mean to be fussy but we have spent £2m more than Sunderland.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spoken like A true person Micky Mouser. It's about who spends the most wisely not the most. You will need to look at the whole picture to see what FSG and Rodgers have already done for LFC (I doubt you can be bothered) yes part of that is balancing the books but it needed doing can't blame them for cleaning up other people's mistakes. We are already on much stronger footing financially. Why don't you look at the quality of the team the quality of the academy why not look at the ladies team topping the league the value of our sponsorship deals nowadays. FSG are changing this club for the better and there are more changes on the way if you want a developed Anfield so we can compete going forward just suck it up its for your own good

and so it looks like the big signing is not coming I think if br does not make top four this year he could be on his way and kicking himself for buying big.fingers crossed he has enough going forward moses certainly is not the answer its just another cheap option going forward .would love to see us trump arsenal for di maria for the second time in this window.please brendan put borini out on loan it was a bad buy and bring in a better alternative i.e ba, michu, or go the whole hog for fellani

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So you think Rogers is to blame interesting

Agree0 Disagree0

Di Maria is just an average player made to look great in a Real Madrid team full of stars. I would much rather have a go at Moses! He's young and has bags of potential (like Coutinho and Sturridge if you remember?)

Are you lot forgetting the club was almost run in to the ground a couple years back under Hicks & Gillett?
Glad we're not paying over the odds on overrated golddiggers!

Agree0 Disagree0

Thankfully BR has a bit of sense in that he's not buying "big" just for the sake of it. He knows the type of player he wants and he ain't going to deviate just to appease the fans. Personally I think FSG did just that when they took over and they aren't going to be caught out again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wow. Ba a better alternative! {Ed002's Note - And Ba, like Moses, is available.}

Agree0 Disagree0

All those players you mentioned wouldn't fit in well for our team. And I honestly don't care if Rodgers finishes 6th, he's the right man for the job. If anyone is going to take us back, I think it's him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you telling me borini is better than ba your having a laugh, and I would replace borini we have seen nothing of him last year regardless of his injuries he has no pace and is average at best ba would be a massive improvement and when you think we paid 11 million for borini and chelsea paid 7 for ba . {Ed002's Note - BA has little actual value and if sold I would expect it to be half of what Chelsea paid. It is not "how good" he is, it is how well his knees can stand up over a season. He is certainly not up to two full games a week.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed do you think we would need him every week with sturrige and suarez still at the club he could be an excellent back up for those two with aspas he definetly wouldn't start but come on he is a better option than borini. {Ed002's Note - Liverpool has shown no interest in him.}

hi ed's,
Just wondering if you had any insight as to whether the Mata rumours that are beginning to circulate have any legs? I assume they aren't but if you have any insight i'd appreciate it. I'm referring to the rumour that we had a loan bid for him rejected but could go back with a bid to buy following Chelsea's capture of Willian and him being left out last night. Thanks {Ed002's Note - He wasn't left out last night, he was on the bench.}

Not sure this is the place. But my 2 Mates have dropped out of tonight's game! So I will have 2 tickets in the kop free. Will give them away. Got to collect them from the ticket office, I'm sure an ed can give anyone interested my email address? {Ed002's Note - I don't have your email address Benny. Normally I would but today is going to be very busy. Can you either set up a temporary email address with gmail or whatever and post it to the site - I am sure these will go quickly or perhaps point folks to your Facebook/Twitter or whatever page? We cannot have this site having responses obviously, but that would be a suitable solution. Thanks.}

Why is it, so many seem surprised at no 20Mil plus signings so far?

As I read it some 13 months ago, FAG/LFC policy was to buy cheap yet potentially good players and let the team work its magic with them.

Nothing different has been added to this as far as I can remember.

I watched the MU-Chelsea game yesterday and to be honest, wasn't that impressed.

So many intercepted passes, so many miss placed passes, so little invention, so few shots on target, so slow and in fact soooo boring.

United will not keep pace with our current first team. Chelsea look old though I have to say they defended very well.

To beat MU IMO will not be difficult and if the likes of Ferdinand think they can neutralise the likes of Coutinho then I feel they are very much mistaken.

Villa did well against Chelsea and should have got at least a point yet even their young pacey team couldn't contain us in the first half.

The team is good, not perfect but good. Our midfield engine is good if not the best and all we need to do is convert more.

Marquee signings bollox can take a walk as far as I am concerned. Get a player who wants to play for us is a far better policy than a player who thinks we owe him a debt of gratitude when he signs for us. I seem to remember a big fuss last summer when we didn't sign Dempsey and look where that signing got the spuds.

LFC 2 wins 2 clean sheets and 6 points not even City with their huge marquee signings have managed that.

Just shush about signing big name high value players and get behind what we have.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree, for so long the Chelsea, madrids, man city's etc etc, have bought up the young and talented potential in Europe and stuck them on the bench, where there grow frustrated at the lack of opportunity, we should be looking to extract these players the Coutinio, sturridge s of this world as there are hungry, talented and eager to impress, put them in a squad where team spirit is very high and they will get there pitch time and see them realise their potential, ok if the big clubs come knocking in a few season and we are not in the champions league we at least sell at a huge profit, but if we do get there and with the spirit built within the squad they probably won't want to leave. It sensible progress.

Agree0 Disagree0

"United will not keep pace with our current first team"

I think you are underestimating the current champions. The game on sunday will be a tough game for us but we will see how close we are to the top teams after the game.

I am extremely happy with the team BR has assembled but I would like us to bring in 1 or 2 powerful players who can hold the ball up well, especially in the latter stages of the game when we are trying to defend a lead. Maybe that is why BR is looking at Moses.

Personally I'd be satisfied with Moses ok not the first or indeed second choice but the wise choice. Having missed out on our two preferred choices for the left side albeit both realistically long shots considering our previous seasons standing but we did have a go. Surely to spend 20m plus on a 3rd/4th choice would be foolish, the sensible option is to hold the cash and loan a young eager to play and impress player with prem experiance (like Sturridge) just allowing Coutinio to slot into the middle his best position is going to improve the team ( sorry bredan "group"). There will be the doomsday people out there who will shoot me down. But let's be realistic a title or even top 4 finish is very unlikely this year. Realistically getting into a Europa slot is more realistic, if we achieve that this season playing some good attractive football then we will be glad for that cash to push on from there. I think we are getting ahead of ourselves somewhat, we need to be prepared for progress but steady progress, we just have to face facts the while the history of our fine club will attract a better class of player then our league standing suggests, the "top" players are simply not going to come while we are not in Europe, and seriously pushing for top 4. That's where we are we should be focusing on improving on last year which "is" very achievable we do have a top four defence so who ever is on the left we will be hard to beat. But anyone thinking we should spend our way to top four is playing a dangerous game

I would be pretty happy with Moses, he is very quick and has a very strong shot.

In a few years we could have 4 of the fastest forwards in Sturridge, Moses, Ibe and Sterling. With Coutinho feeding them passes we would be a nightmare to defend against.

Sturridge and moses are already experienced and are reaching their peak but Sterling and Ibe need a couple of years to develop. Moses is 23, same with Sturridge and Ibe and Sterling are 17 and 18 so we would have a young pacey, skillfull attack with lots of replacement options.

Sounds good to me.

Whilst I and most would love to see Mata or Turan come in, I believe BR is not looking for this type of player. This is not ITK or anything, but I just feel he is looking for a player that has pace and power. There are not too many available options out there for the LW RW role, but Moses is one of those.
I, like most, would feel a bit deflated with this type of signing as I don't believe him to be a signing that would significantly improve the starting 11 and may limit the chances of Sterling and Ibe. However, after a dodgy start, BR has overseen an improvement in performances and results and I for one will trust his judgement if this is a call that he makes.
Added to that, I am happy to give Moses a chance to change my current impression of him and I will support him as much as any other member of the team.
Pleased with the start and quietly optimistic about our chances for the season. though I would love a fantastic, game changing signing in the next few days, just to build that level of excitement.
Also interested to note Maccas comment about Suarez. Personally I want rid, but if he is here for the season, I will support him if he gets his nut down and works for the cause. Hopefully, he can redeem himself and move on in 12 months for a respectable fee.
Have a good day EDs and Reds.

I don't get it. Last year we were in europe league and we couldn't sign the big players as we were not in the CL. this year we don't even offer europe league and still can't attract starplayers. But the heck van spurs sign top players when they ONLY offer europe league? This is getting kind of frustrated.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As I said in a post the other day, Spurs have spent a lot, but which of the players that they have bought would get into our team? Their best buy appears to be Paulinho, but all the rest are pretty average really - even then I would still prefer Lucas or Gerrard in his position. I am not convinced either by their first team or their manager. I would prefer Rodgers and the players that we already have playing the way they are. I mean - Sturridge or Soldado? No contest, Sturridge any day for me. I could go on.

Here's one for all the doomsayers.

We are on maximum points, no goals conceded, having played 2 teams who last season took 7 points off us with an aggregate score of 4-7).

We seem to be keeping our world -class player and also have SG (not sure if he is STILL world class).

We are 4 points ahead of Everton, 3 points ahead of Man City and Arsenal, 2 points ahead of Man Utd.

Spurs (who have supposedly out transferred us this window, and were 11 points ahead of us last), have not scored in open play, won with two disputed penalties, and are about to lose their only world-class payer.

The Moses link is made in both the Echo and Post, normally reliable sources.

This would be a very disappointing alternative to Willian. Check the OPTA stats (I know, not everything), and you see that Moses is nowhere near as productive. I just don't see him as being an upgrade on the Ibe / Sterling possibilities.

Also, Willian would have been a definite first-team starter, surely Moses would not.

BR indicated his next few signings would be players who would change the first team, as he had the players to improve the squad. His first of these was Cissokh, a back-up LB (or poss LM), not a first-teamer. If Moses is the second signing, we have completely failed to back up BR's claim.

I am just hoping there is a significant signing in the pipeline. A first-teamer, a game-changer.

Perhaps it is all a smoke screen (aaaggghhh).

Agree0 Disagree0

Shirt Seller, I am with you on this to a great extent . Rodgers has been promising quality for weeks now and has admitted that the signings he has made add depth to the squad rather than quality .

I think that the five players brought in so far have been clever signings but they are only sufficient for us to stand still rather than move forward .

We now need two signings to give us a chance of a top four finish in my opinion .

The last thing I want to hear when the window closes is a report of Rodgers storming out of Melwood with a face like thunder like last year, a last minute deal having collapsed .

He has no excuses this year, his new Aquisitions Team have been in place for months, and I am convinced that there will be two quality players brought in before the window closes .

Agree0 Disagree0

Ritters at Hale:

Is it BR you are stating "has no excuses"?

What if him and his team keep identifying players who would add quality to the first team, and then the owners won't pay the cash?

We keep hearing (and ED002 keeps stating) money will be made available for the right player, but "right" in who's eyes?

If the Owners reckon a player is not worth it, that's it and decision could be taken right out of the manager's hands.

2nd Moses is 22 and Downing is 29, Moses substitute appearances for Chelsea last season produced more goals & assists than downings 2 years here. I think you banged your head?

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree

Agree0 Disagree0

We sell Downing, because we are getting Willian, a definite upgrade. We lose out and get Moses?

Reminds me of Carroll and Dempsey all over again.

It seems like panic stations that we have let our winger go and have no real options.

Moses is OK, he runs at players, which can create space. But he is not a touch-player, full of guile. An odd choice if true.

Agree0 Disagree0

Let's all get on the players back before he has even signed. Any potentail players that look at this site before signing would be put off by fans slating them before they even put on the shirt.

And shirt seller you have clearly stated that Moses is rubbish in your first post but then say he is ok in your second post.

The amount of people that think they know better than BR astounds me. There is a reason he is manager of the greatest club in the world and there is a reason why we are not!

Agree0 Disagree0

How is it like Carroll and Dempsey shirt seller as I am a little confused. Yes Carroll was bought with the Torres money and 35 mil a lot of money but we were going to buy him in the summer anyway as Kenny liked him.

Unless you meant we loaned Carroll expecting Dempsey when again these never went hand in hand because Carroll was always going as BR didn't rate him

Agree0 Disagree0

Parky, I certainly didn't say he was rubbish. I did say he is a poor alternative to Willian. I still think he is not an upgrade on Downing.

I don't pretend to know more than BR either. I am just saying that Moses doesn't seem to fit the bill as much as Willian did.

It would have been easy to make the same 'Chelsea reject' claims for Sturridge, and he now seems the best English striker of all time.

It's about opinions here though, and I just think Moses is no better than what we have.

If he arrives I will support him whatever happens. I constantly stated Lucas would come good (yes, from the very start) and did the same for Shelvey (I was possibly wrong there), but I will support our players none the less. Even Moses.

Hi Eds,

Each time we all see a rumour regarding Liverpool and players, we see that BR refuses to bid as asking price is too high. Eriksen we could get for 20-25m. But no bid. Honestly don't know why BR won't bid for the kid.

Sakho is available and PSG have quoted a fee of up to around 20m. which is high but I think in todays market he's work a punt at 15m.

Ilori's price tag is 6.1m (apparently) but Liverpool have (apprently) borked at that. What do you get if you spend peanuts?

If BR is borking at 6.1m for Ilori, 15m at Sakho and 25m for Eriksen then I don't know what he's thinking. After all, weren't we willing to spend 25m on mhitikaryn or 25m on Willian? Maybe he's hoping too sell Suarez. Maybe he's only got 10m left and hoping to secure a loan deal first before securing another player on a permanent.

Any thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

He is thinking better than you for sure.

Eriksen will probably end up leaving for about HALF of the £25 million you mention. Or do you want to help out Ajax financially and give them an extra £10 million for fun?

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 09:48:10
It's not price specifically, more the price comparative to the player. And didn't ed say that Eriksen wasn't interested {Ed002's Note - Eriksen's interest flip-flops on a daily basis. This is where I understand we are right now with him: There is no acceptable offer on the table for Eriksen although Atletico Madrid, Roma, Milan and Spurs remain interested. If Milan sell Boateng they will make an offer for him immediately as they have already agreed personal terms with the player. With Pjanic probably out of the picture for Spurs, now would be the likely time for them to move for Eriksen. If Ljajic makes a move to Milan (his preferred destination but Fiorentina are not keen to sell to them) or Roma (his likely alternate destination), that will take one of them out of the equation. Atletico Madrid have made an offer this past weekend and it has been rejected. There must remain a slim chance that Liverpool will look to the player again.}

Agree0 Disagree0

BR identifys targets but does not control how much the club is willing to spend on a player. Eriksson would probably be available for far less than your valuation maybe is on our short list maybe not. we will see. BR has not spent much money this window that's not been covered by sales so let's hope for a new player or two in next week

I haven't seen too much o Moses and granted he may have been impressive at a struggling Wigan where he was one of the stars (allowing him to play with some pressure of being a youngster nullified). do those that have seen more of him think he could cope with the pressures of our style. Meaning, can he gain the trust of those who are already comfortable receiving the ball to make correct decisions and not just power toward the goal like a bull in a china closet? A Ronaldo without the skill could kill our possession and what we've worked for

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 10:47:22
Our attack lacks speed and needs a direct player. Hence why Rodgers wanted Willian. Moses is a younger, more effective player. Albeit it less skillful. He was thrown into the deep end at such a young age, he's no stranger to pressure. I think he will be a very shrewd signing personally. I hope its a permanent deal though, or a loan with a future fee set in stone. If you want to know more, I did a review on the player in the LFC blogs and voting polls section.

Last season, even with Sturridge up front, we did not score a single goal from a counter attack. Coutinho, Suarez and Aspas are quick, but they are not going to come haring along the botton of your TV screens busting a gut to get in behind the opposition 10 seconds after defending a corner. Admittedly, we don't play counter attacking football, but its always a nice option to have, as we are not likely to control games away at Old Trafford and Chelsea. Its games like that when you need to have someone fast and powerful up front who will offer a counter attacking threat. At the moment, we only really have Sturridge to do that. Rodgers obviously agrees with me, as he said he wants a left sided forward with pace.

Turan would be a decent buy, he ain't a speed star which is what BR is concerned, but his skill is superb, I would have loved us to go out and sepnd 20 mill on Muriel, the lad is pure brilliant.
I am sure he would be off to some other clubs next summer, If we don't buy him now.

I know he is probably well out of our reach, but judged off how he looks at madrid Ozil really seems to want out. Do we have any chance or who is he most likely to go to? Ed02? {Ed002's Note - It is not going to happen man.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thought that'd be the case, do you have any idea where he might be off to? Back to Germany? {Ed002's Note - If he moves there will be interest from England and Germany.}

I am not doubting moses is average/above average as an attacking option, but if he is as good as some are making him out to be I ask the question why was he a sub so many times and why is he being farmed out in place of an expensive player who does NOT score goals.
Yeah he could be a gem in the making, but as a loan who we could lose at the end of the season makes no sense.

So not only can't we afford some top quality for ourselves which moses certainly is not, we are now nurturing other clubs talents so they can go back better players to them.

I guess Brendan and many fans on here believe moses is our level, I beg to differ. No doubt he will come and do well and rub my nose in it, but I can't help feel we are missing a trick like we have done for 20 odd years now. Buy one or two quality players a until you have a team full of quality instead of 4-5 average players every year.

Bet u were saying the same thing about sturridge he played a similar role to Moses at Chelsea, bench Warmer played on the flanks never scored ect. Moses is fast and strong and has a hammer shot! Your to negative fat boy as always!

Agree0 Disagree0

Two things,

i know he's not drogba but at least he was good at wigan, signed by chevesky but never used(as they do with many. The want superstars not players). And now being scouted by us, and he is decent player.
The final fact is that, we won't go wrong if we sign him.

2nd thing abt signing 2-3 player who r class intead of avg players but mate every team has there quota of avg players who r just squad players. U can't field 11 messi's on the field.
And who in the world won't like signing mata instead of moses. But what can we do. We are not oil rich and we are not in europe, the matas, ozil, lamela types are already playing at level above us at the moment .

Intsead we r going for typical set of guys who have talent but somehow lost the plot, and they r eger to currect the wrong.
That is why sturridge shows that look on his face everytime he scores that see I told u I can. And also that's the reason toure at 32 tries to outdo henderson in hardwork. Moses is the same case, even look at downing at WHU. He was out done at Liverpool rightly so. But the downing playing at west ham is much better than our(that is not meant say resign him. Just a eg. )

{Ed002's Note - He played 43 games last year, so he obviously used.}

Agree0 Disagree0

BR has stated the quality he wants and showed the disappointment when Willian wasn't signed. It's FSG not stumping up the cash which sees us loaning players of Moses caliber

I think the Moses loan to buy deal if true could be decent. for me he's far better than downing and at 22 can only get better under guidance from rodgers. Also it's another young English talent at our club (although he choose Nigeria) if he doesn't prove himself we don't buy simple.
It provides cover and keeps ibe/sterling working hard and focused. I believe with our scouts and form heading into the winter window we can pick up the type of players we have missed out on so far this summer.
Any new info on central defenders though eds?
Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah Brenden could turn him into a player and then we can give back to Chavski after the loan.

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree. Moses is NOT better than Downing and IMO is no improvement in Sterling and Ibe. We should be going for a player who is a significant upgrade on Sterling and Ibe and Turan is one among many such players available.

i juat wish we get a CB and a left winger ( sakho and turan ) that would give uss a very good 1st team with a chance of winning the prem, i'm not getting caarried away because we have played only 2 games but with last season results and this seasons it shows how close we are and that only came after we signed 2 players in january sturridge and couthino, if we don't sell suarez then we will get goals, soc its up to the owners to take a chance and aim for the top

Loving how just a couple of posts on Mata here the other day have sent the side into 'Juan' directioners (pardon the pun!)
So I firstly wanted to ask the eds: have we ACTUALLY shown any interest in Mata recently?
I can't see any harm being done in a sly £25m bid. He would vastly Improve the squad, boost finances for midfield-rich chelski to go in for rooney/ another striker, enhance his chances of a world cup place if he could guide us to the top four and we have a large Spanish contingent with Enrique, Alberto and Aspas atm with suarez a native speaker also and coutinho and Lucas Brazilian so able to commune easily.

Sorry eds these Mata questions must have become quite tedious! {Ed002's Note - None.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I know everyone rates him very highly and while I do think he is very good I do think we are blowing his ability out of the water (typical english thing to do), but also where would Mata even fit in?

Who would come off for him?
He is not a pacey winger. He is creative but as most of us agreed before talk of Mata if anything some size and strength would be good and he certainly does not bring those qualities. not to mention never going to happen

Agree0 Disagree0

Well why doesn't mourinho play mata?
ever thought abt it?
its very simple juan mata slows down the game. well he is kind of like deco
undoudtedly his close control, vision, passing, eye for goal and finding that killer pass are secondary to none in the league but the fact remains he is able to produce chances but he is far from fluid. his short range passing draws out his team mates and if anyone looses the ball, u face a counter. chelsea's downfall last season. also mata isn't a finisher . he has scored goals but he has missed equal amount to.
moses is a better option because we need someone at flanks.
he adds strength to the team physically. also he will be a danger at set pieces in drawing out defenders

Agree0 Disagree0

Not saying we are bidding or likely too.

No one was talking about pacy expensive left wingers when we were after Mkhitaryan. Then a good footballer with goals/assists and CL experience was enough. Mata's profile is at least as high, if not higher, than HM.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gareth,

An incredibly stupid statement to make. Mata is, without a doubt, one of the best players currently in the PL.
