Does anyone know if Liverpool have a chance of taking Birmingham's place in the Europa League? {Ed002's Note - IN the most extreme circumstances of Birmingham entering Administration before August 4 or 5. Please don't rely on it.}

Hi ed, do you think it was ous who , ade an bid for Hulk worth £ 70 million?

Please post. {Ed002's Note - I can only guess that it may have been Anzhi if it were true.}

27 Jul 2011 23:26:16
any chance of nathan dyer eds.thanks {Ed002's Note - Sure - anything you want.}

27 Jul 2011 23:24:46
hi ed002 jus wondering will there be anymore signings for liverpool? lfck {Ed002's Note - Two or three.}

27 Jul 2011 23:20:49
Hi ed just wondering if there was any interest from Aguero in january? {Ed002's Note - Nope.}

27 Jul 2011 23:09:05
Ed who do you think will do best out of Charlie adam , Stewart downing and Jordan Henderson next season? cheers, {Ed009's Note - it is a somewhat silly prediction to make, but I envisage Downing being the biggest factor in our teams campaign, simply due to number of appearances. I am sure all three will have played a significant part come May.}

27 Jul 2011 23:06:15
Eds, just out of curiosity, do you think there is any chance of signing Chiellini if we did show interest? World class CB, would love to see him at LFC {Ed002's Note - I am going to say no.}

27 Jul 2011 23:02:23
evenin eds, firstly I think we can all be happy the aguero rumours will finally go, unfortunately it means people moaning about the price comparison with carrollI'd just like to add my bit, forgettin wages etc, andy carroll is an lfc player, so he deserves our support, aguero is nothin to do with lfc so forget about him.my second point is if you're goin to moan about it think about this, its like a scumited fan sayin, ''if we hadnt spent £30 million on veron 10 years ago we could've signed agueroits pathetic, you can only sign players that are available at the time.lastly, football is a team game, and it takes many elements to form a great ''team'', not 11 individuals, a la real madrid, each player has his own qualities and his own input in to the squad, trust in the king and what he's doing.please post in rumours ed cos its pretty quiet tonight.
Dannyboy {Ed002's Note - Personally I will miss the rumours.}

Young Mexican striker Marco Bueno has signed a pre contract agreement and will arrive in Liverpool next month.

Hey Ed's, great site, so addictive.
I was just wondering who the most likely back-up striker would be this year, assuming of course we buy one. Any information on this subject would help. Thanks a lot

Pete {Ed002's Note - Woah Pete - I am going to say Park Chu Young wants it but may not get it.}

27 Jul 2011 22:52:11
Rumours in Jockoland are that Aiden McGeady might be signed. A Good skillful (Rt) winger who will put crosses in with an excellent shot. has a lot of champions league experience

27 Jul 2011 22:51:56
hi ed great info all the time any truth in steve staunton coming back as a coach {Ed002's Note - No, as a left back, just maybe.}

27 Jul 2011 22:34:46
Good evening all,
I think we should all now only mention players who have signed for us, not those who allegedly will be signing. I for one am happy with the arrivals of Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson & Stewart Downing. They offer new dimensions for our squad and will improve our position in the league.

Hi Eds,
I know these are players that are not currently targets but I was just wondering what your opinion was on first of all, Jordi Alba from Valencia, he looked a good player last season at both left back and on the wing, and only 22? With valencia in financial diffulculty surely this versatility is something liverpool should be interested in. Secondly, Davide Santon? He also looked a good young player, who could be good value for money, proved he can play consistently well, in a poor cesena team. I understand maybe these player are not defensively minded enough for KK but your opinion on the each player and whether you believe they would make a great signing?

Also, great coverage on the Adam and Aquilani transfers. People who dont respect your opinon are clearly deluded.

Thanks,

ARed

Eds, Read in a couple of places today that were looking at Lucas Biglia of Anderlecht - Any chance of that being genuine? Think he is an excellent player, and would be great to have on rotation with Downing, Kuyt & Maxi.

27 Jul 2011 22:14:51
hi eds don't know if you seen on unreliable i know caightoffside but do you know if we are going for nathan dyer?i think he could be a good buy but do you think he could cost more than 2 million.thanks eds for all the work

27 Jul 2011 22:11:25
Ed, do you think Suarez will be able to play against Sunderland {Ed002's Note - I am guessing that he will have a slight earache starting that moring which will keep him out of the game.}

27 Jul 2011 22:10:54
hi eds just wondered on your thought for the first team (formation) next season.thanks {Ed002's Note - Man, I don't do such things, sorry.}

27 Jul 2011 22:05:14
What happened to Aguero signing lads?

Cheers

Macca {Ed002's Note - DNA tested Macca who maybe should be asking this question of his old buddy Ed002.}

Eds, with the financial fair play regulations now in force (or about to be) how can City, a club with probably 20% the fan base of Liverpool FC afford to sustain such an expensive salary structure? Surely whilst they are paying these astronomic salaries thay will be big time in the red? Which will be the first accounting period end that UEFA will review? 2011 or 2012? Are they likley to get away will this ridiculous sponsorship fiasco where the owner's family's business is paying over market value? Or is market value subjective and a bung here and there rubber stamps the deal? {Ed002's Note - The bottom line is that they can't - they are looking to demonstrate moving in the right direction.}

27 Jul 2011 21:36:04
hi ed, now agurero has gone to city do u think that will boost our chances of signing adam johnson?thanks {Ed002's Note - Just perhaps}

27 Jul 2011 19:36:23
Ed, if Lyon are getting Turan, whats the chances of Liverpool getting Bastos? {Ed002's Note - Not great I am afraid - I explained his position earlier.}

Said it before and say it again, all the Eds on this site do a great job, particularly Ed009 and Ed002 but none better then Ed001 who's the boss man and none of us would be able to air our views and opinions like i am now if it wasn't for Ed001 the big potato who had the vision to start this site. No bulls**t of him just straight answers to straight questions, its a shame Ed002 has to spend a lot of time being asked the same question over and over and over again, no wonder Ed002 gets pissed sometimes, and sticks up for our players more then some of the of our so called supporter's, Ed009, who's so loyal and passionate to our club, always affable but doesn't suffer fools gladly is firm but fair. Ed001, The Big Potato is the top man though, when he writes, everyone reads. You all do an top job because i guarentee that i'm not the only one who i think i am addicted site and checks sticks it on first thing they do when they wake up. Big up all the Eds, all deserve respect. Call me a clacker cleaner but its true. Jonson6 {Ed001's Note - now that should be post of the day! ;o) Can you believe the original site is 10 years old now?}

Why should some of the players leave if they genuinely want to fight for their places e.g. Spearing, Cole, Shelvey. Kenny stated after the Hull game players have to show the deserve to be in the team. That was for the cameras, what do you think he said to the players If they thought that level of performance was acceptable for LFC they will have been left in no doubt the standard and comittment required. I'm encouraged by players willing to earn a place in the team and as they now realise others are quite happy to take their place. The fight for places means the the squad is stronger which makes the team better. In recent seasons that was not the case people could under perform and still play the next game, that is not a winning mentality. Kenny is instilling the passion, pride and determination back in the squad and you will see thoise players without the character to fight and succeed soon obliterated from the regular squad.

Sorry but was I the only one who cheered when Jovanovic scored against Northampton or Rabotnicki, I can't believe this 'get rid attitude', he was bought by Benitez, hardly used by Hodgeson and Dalglish and in the 18 appearances still managed a couple of goals, bearing in mind that 5 of the Premier league appearances were as a substitute which totaled only 37 mins.
So what I'm trying to say is give the guy a break because he definitely didn't get his chance.

Anyone heard about interest from liverpool in tom derry young under 16 charlton striker very quick excellent touch and great vision. Would be a great signing for the future. Your knowledge eds would be appreciated?

RED OAP {Ed001's Note - I haven't heard of any move from us, but we are in close contact with Charlton and have been since the Shelvey deal. Part of it does involve being kept informed of any bids for their young players that we have interest in.}

Short term, Man City will be weaker this season upfront. Any player trying to replace Tevez, who has proven himself as a top draw player, will have a job on their hands.

Aguero is one of the most hyped up players you'll read about. Especially on this site, but generally everywhere.

He has a tough job. He's going to be new to the English game and that will take some getting used to, the pace, the intensity, the physical side etc.etc. Tevez himself took a long, long time to settle and to finally get to grips with the game over here.

Whether the media and/or the fans give Aguero the time to settle is anyone's guess so the pressure is on big time for him from the off. The fact that he is having to replace Tevez and be the spearhead all at the same time City are expected to kick on and win the league outright this year is a big, big ask.

Whilst there is no doubting his ability. He still has a lot to learn and City are paying big bucks for someone who isn't the finished article. Had City bought Aguero to partner Tevez, then that may be a different kettle of fish alltogether but the fact he's taking all the responsibility with Dzeko (sic) who is already under massive pressure after struggling to adapt and Balotelli who is just a plain mental nut job then City are taking a bit of gamble.

They maybe 'lucky' and Aguero takes to the Premier League like one Fernando Torres, or he may take to it like one current Fernando Torres. Who knows? But for £38M and upwards of £250,000 per week you'd want a few more definites and far less question marks.

We have a similar conundrum with Andy Carroll but whereas City got Dzeko we got Suarez, who has taken the pressure off Carroll somewhat and no doubt will take his fair share of attention from other teams, allowing Carroll that crucial space to get his game right.

What has Aguero got to take the pressure off? I feel at this moment in time he is yet another in a long, long line of 'marquee' signings by City started by Robinho, as if they need any more announcing that they are awash with money? It is with this feeling that i think City have 'rushed' into this signing to prevent any unrest in their fans regarding Tevez.

There are certain clubs that just seem to fit certain players and they click and gel virtually straightaway. Aguero to City? We'll see. A couple of dodgy results, Aguero having a 'torres like' run and City getting plenty of 'rafa like' media stick then watch those bitches turn on each other like something out of the hills have eyes.

Well here's hoping

Read an article that makes sense about Enrique joining LFC. Enrique only has a year left on his contract so if Newcastle do not sell him know while there is interest he will leave on a free and they will get nothing for him. What are the chances of Dalglish putting in a bid just before the window closes to avoid Newcastle from upping the price and having to accept a lower bid than expected knowing that Enrique is a free agent in a years time?

Okay I am aware that the Jovanovic to Anderlecht rumour is in no way confirmed. I just wanted to ask if the deal was to go through, how much would he be valued at? I Just read in the Guardian that the transfer would involve a fee of 4 million. I know newspapers are horribly unreliable, but how realistic is that valuation?

Got a really bad feeling about next January and next summer. one of them more money than brains clubs(man city and chelsea) are going to put a stupid amount of money on the table for Suarez and with mr henrys policy i can see him going, also followed by king kennys "no one man is bigger than liverpool football club" i agree but lets be honest he is a special lad with a bright future and we need to keep him.

Milan Jovanovic will 'definitely' move to Belgian side Anderlecht from Liverpool, according to the player's representative.

"We are talking again and everything looks good: the sporting aspects, financial, contributions. We are still a few solutions [away] but there is movement."

Source: SSN

Ed's any ideas how much of a 'contribution' LFC are looking at? I take it this means LFC will be supplementing his wage?

Mark the Selby Red {Ed001's Note - apparently that has been the sticking point, exactly how much of his wages we continue to pay as Anderlecht won't meet the full amount. We will be paying somewhere in the region of 25k a week to him, if the figures I have been given are correct.}

Just a little suggestion to consider..the NFL have recently introduced a salary cap for each team, meaning they have to offload players who the teams deem surplus, in order to buy/draft/sign the better available players for their respective teams. Although something like this would probably not work in football, it would certainly stop teams like chelski, citeh, and (judging by our signinigs) now everyone else vying for the top 4 paying astronomical fees for, in some instances slightly above average players.

That said NFL players are like kids with smacked arses, if they have to play even 1 extra pre-season game they want paying hugely ridiculous amounts of money for it.

I'm sure something of a salary cap nature was suggested throughout europe sometime ago..any Eds shed any light?? {Ed001's Note - a cap would only work if every country agreed to it and that will not happen.}

Hey ed I just read that the 6+5 rule was dropped in 2010. Why is KK then still chasing English talent? Is it becuase their wage demands are lower compared to others? Is it because he feels they respect the club more and don't just play for the money? Because i am pretty sure DC would have had some french targets in mind but has been overruled.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

by the way, what do you think of Leighton Baines? Perfect for LFC in my opinion.

PITSILFC {Ed001's Note - there is still a home grown rule, you can only have up to 15 players that are not home grown in your 25 man squad. Plus it helps to get players used to playing in this type of football, which is why players from the Netherlands and Germany are particularly in demand at the moment. Their leagues are seen as the closest in style, other than Scotland, to England's. It is also about having a core of players that see playing for Liverpool as the pinnacle of achievement, rather than players who see it as a stepping stone to Barca. I really don't see the need for Baines, he is very defensively weak, great going forward though, but we have Downing to provide from the left. I would rather stick with Johnson on the left myself, that was if we had a chance of getting Baines.}

For people complaining about the prices we've paid for the 6 players we've bought from January, think of it this way... We bought Suarez, Carroll, Downing, Henderson, Adam and Doni for the senior team, which average out to cost around £16m each if you add their actual transfer fees together and devide it by 6... Even though we over-paid for Carroll and Henderson I still see all these players as very good business... People dont realise Kenny is working hard behind the scenes to bring in quality youngsters for the future aswell, we've bought 6 academy players so far this summer, most of them from the clutches of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

getting away from all the first team signings and rumours is anyone else glad to see the investment we seem to be making into the youth system lately?

we had the emergence of kelly last season who is now a guaranteed first team regular, flannagan and robinson are real prospects and will be in the team sooner rather than later, shelvey maybe needs to show a bit more but defo has potential. I dont see much of the reserves/youth team but understand morgan, suso and sterling are real gems to come through soon(if theres any others please let me know). we now have 4 players coming in on trial in next week or so, coady and wisdom have been getting some time in pre season as well.

Dont get me wrong there's no guarantee all these kids will make the step up, i remember when we signed le tallec and sinama pongolle they finished top scorer and 2nd top scorer at the youth world cup and 1 of them won player of the tournament before we signed them and look how they turned out but it definately looks like we are trying to build a squad for the long term.

Dare i make a comparison to barcelona, guardiola said that our academy was best he had seen outside of barcelonas, if you took barcas best 11 (not counting recent signings) only alves, abidal and villa were bought. valdes, puyol, pique, xavi, iniesta, busquets, messi and pedro all came through the youth team. I for 1 would be happy if we came anywhere close to producing that kind of talent (i doubt we'll see another messi for a long time mind you) and only having to add 1 or 2 major signings each season to complement our squad.

obviously this kind of development wont happen all at once but if there are some real stars in there we could really start to see some promising talent in the next 2-3 years

I can't help but wonder why is our wage bill so high, who is really responsible for allowing our club to have so much deadwood players surplus to requirement?

We all hate our previous owners but i'm sure it wasn't them who went out and identified these mediocre players and decided they were worth astronomical wages?

Was it all really Raffas fault or Rick Parrys or Raffas scouts?

I heard recently that we have upward of 49 players on the payroll, for a club who not even in Europe. Its a good job the Fenway group took over when they did I dread to think of where we might have been now.

People need to start realising that since Mr.Henry took over the club he has been fantastic in his dealings with the club, he realises the potential the club has on the world stage and already has began marketing us in the right circles but first and formost he understands Liverpool as a business needs the
books balancing correctly.

With the all the new signings and the departures since January Mr.Henry has spent around £40 million to date, and to be honest we are now far stronger as a team. But before we spend again we must reduce this huge wage bill. I have heard privately that Mr.Henry is furious with how the club has been allowed to get in such a state and he has instructed DC to make sure these deadwood players find other clubs during this summer. Players like Aquilani, Cole, Javanovic, Poulson, Ngog, Insua, Maxi, El Zhar to name but a few will be moved on freeing upwards of £430-50k a week for the above
mentioned. If we manage to find potential new clubs for these players, only then will further potential transfer targets be given the go ahead to buy.

The Fenway Groups policy is to invest in youth this will be evident in all future purchases then and only then will we all start to see Liverpools future well and truly begin.
Keep the Faith fellow reds.

Any good news of us trimming down our 'excess midfield talent'? Competition for places is one thing but out-right
overcrowding will be detrimental to moral and team spirit.
Cole wants to stay and fight for his place? Was the reason he played so sh** last season because he though his place was a god given right? I hope I never see him again in a reds shirt. Spearing also wants to stay on and fight for a place -the lad has great attitude but does not quite make the grade (IMO). I think a loan would be the best way forward for Jay and Shelvey, more first team experience and still linked to the club. I hope they go (on loan) and I hope they prove me wrong.

Jordan Henderson was in the top 4 last year for goal chances provided. So does anybody see him as a starter. Eds, Macca or anybody credible. If so, who is most likely to make way? Excellent site Thanks

27 Jul 2011 17:27:55
More a question for the Eds and everyone else out there than a rumour with all this talk of "sell before we buy." The fact we went for Jones and missed out suggests to me that there is still money avilable - or would Downing or Henderson not have happened had we signed Jones?

My personal opinion is that transfer fees are fine and the board are happy to spend but the wage bill needs attention. {Ed002's Note - There is not a big pile of cash sitting around Anfield anywhere if that is what you are thinking.}

fans that are clamouring for cb in the mould of gary cahill and scot dan should have a rethink. what the team needs is a ball playing cb not hoofer type (jamie cara). cb that can play the ball out of defence under pressure not hoofing it out and put the team under pressure. agger is the only cb that we have presently that can do that effectively, that's why the team plays better whenever he is in the side. for me, cahill and dan are not the type. cara for all his heroics and bravery, puts the team under alot of pressure by just hoofing the ball in the air, hoofing does not allow to build up player from the back. football game has really gone past big man, small man (centre forward) that fans are always talking about here. all we talk about now is whipping crosses to andy carroll, what happens if our wingers fail to get the better of their markers? we need to think this through. this is aston villa under martin o'neal all over again. i feel the team needs a player in the mould of ardan turan that can offer that creative edge(dribble 2-3 players and not falling over himself) that is missing in our game. i hope kk address the cb and the creative part. pls don't tell me sg, suarez or c.adam can do it.
this is just my observation.

ed answer me this, how has Turan gone to Lyon for 13 million euro's? We pay 20 million for henderson who has only had 2 season of premier league experience and not worth 20 million by any chance. And Downing was worth 20 million but he is a quality player but he is 27 years old and Turan is only 24 so why did kenny not put a bid in? he is making average signing for stupid amounts of money. Carroll for 35 million and Aguero for 35 million to city and I know which player is better... {Ed001's Note - Turan is untried in the English league and there are doubts over his ability to cope with the physical side of the game here.}

More bulls**t, where in my post did i call City a big club, show me please. All i said we shouldn't be suprised he joined them with what the Eds particulaly Ed002 who's been constantly telling folk as early as this morning he aint coming here and was right. I mentioned that we always do well against big clubs. Carroll will give us the physical presence we need against the crapper teams who try and out muscle us not out football us. Either read it proper or dont make things up, suprise suprise an other poster who doesn't sign off talking s**t. Jonson6

Hi Ed, please could you post this in the rumour section as I read on the site y'day how one poster said we lost out on Aguero but paid a similar fee for Andy C.
To his post... Yes, we did pay a similar fee but am happy with Andy C as he gives a different dimension up front, and there really is no need for Aguero as I think Suarez is a more capable and complete player who can play as a (winger/lone striker/in the hole or upfront with someone else). Sorry just wanted to get that across. I also fear that there'll be a lot of expectation from Aguero to fill Tevez's boots far too quickly and I somewhat have a feeling he won't be Man Citys best signing.

Great Site.

Omar-Red {Ed001's Note - it seems to have been overlooked that Aguero is being paid over 5 times as much plus a multi-million pound signing fee.}

Dont get how all these english players are worth so much. They are too over rated. If we spent 75 million on 3 players what are above average if that then something is wrong with Kenny, i dont think he should be in control of the money. We should be selling spearing and shelvey for at least 7 million each if english players are worth so much.

27 Jul 2011 15:58:08
Has Dann recovered from his injury?A bit risky signing him, we already have too many injury prone players.As for the price, anything above 8 mil is too much, since he missed most of the season and he's current club plays in championship.

We are laying foundations people. Our wages are messed up at the moment and we need to sell dead wood. At this time we can't afford the £200,000 a week wages of someone like aguero, although spending alot of money upfront for someone like a Carroll, Henderson or Adam is alot but they have small wages. We need to lay the foundations of a well waged well stuctured team and then buy the world class players too improve upon them. We will hopefully get Champions league next year however I doubt a proper title challenge will happen for quite a while. -Mc

Aquilani, N'Gog and Jovanovic are all supposedly leaving according to numerous sources on the internet, but is there any one else who hasn't been in the media to which you know are in talks or are being touted around to new clubs?

To those of you still moaning. Since KK was appointed, results have drastically improved, we have swapped Sammy (no offence Sammy - YNWA) for the very highly regarded Steve Clarke and the new owners continue to improve our off the field commercial revenue (e.g. Warrior). In this time we have sold Babel and Torres two over paid under performing stars and bought the world class Suarez, Carroll, Downing, Adam and Henderson (yes back up Doni too). Irrespective of whether or not we may have over paid for some of them, the bottom line is that for a net outlay of £40m we have acquired 5 players who make our squad far stronger. They all have premiership experience and with the exception of Downing they are young enough to significantly improve further. This is thoughtful, deliberate and cunning management from KK, DC and the owners. Add to this the fact that several very promising youngsters have made the breakthrough and we have a whole batch of younger players representing their country, I would most definitely say we are heading in the right direction. If we can shift this summer a few of the high earning none performers and add one or two more it will fantastic. If not I am delighted with what we have done so far in 2011. Fortress Anfield was not built by Shanks in a day. At the end of the storm .. Reality Red.

So Ed we missed out on yet another transfer target, Aguero lol... But seriously, do you think Nathan Eccleston will be given a chance in the first team, I've been watching the reserves and Academy matches he looks a good striking option for us, quick, powerful, skillful and scores goals, i think he'll be a great back up striker {Ed002's Note - Eccleston will likely remain on the fringes.}

27 Jul 2011 15:08:52
Watching Chelsea in the Asia Cup, I've been seeing Daniel Sturridge & with Liverpool needing/wanting another back up striker/ or some one to play behind the strikers, I think he'd be ideal...

I know we've been linked with him before, is there any chance, once deadwood has been remoevd?

Malaga have confirmed a deal for Spain international Santi Cazorla, making him their ninth signing of the summer. So another rumour that can be put to bed

27 Jul 2011 14:37:08
I'm saying this as a LFC fan since Rome 84. Probably sound pessimistic but been many false dawns at Anfield. The players we have signed and that we are genuinely linked too above average for me. I don't expect us to seriously mount a challenge unless we sign more quality similar to the level of Suarez. I'd be disappointed with KK if he choose Downing over Mata just because Downing is British. Otherwise it wont be long before Suarez is off to a new club. I do hope fans still have faith in KK if our performances falter. I'm particular concerned with our defence. Carra sorry but hes past it. Agger/Aurelio good players but cant stay fit. Skrtel concede too many fouls. Johnson good going forward, poor defensively. Kellys our best defender let we signed more midfielders.

27 Jul 2011 14:33:26
i honestly fink henderson 4 20m was way to much especially because hes probs gonna sit on the bench most of the time we should of bought someone like m'vila or diego it would put up more of a battle for those cm spots

27 Jul 2011 14:32:04
Hey Eds, is there anything on stevie g? I know there's no official position but should we be preparing for the start of the season without him? No doubt there will be plenty of posts when there is news.}

27 Jul 2011 14:23:03
Shane Long would be a great signing. If he comes to LFC, he could make the step up that he is capable of making. He would definitely fit in well with Kenny's plans of having Carroll as a target man with Suarez/Kuyt/Long to pick off the goals.

As good a player Aguero is, we've always done well against the big clubs but not had enough of a physical presence like Carroll to bully the opposition and hold the ball up for us. I dont know why its come as such a suprise he's not come here, the Eds and other fans have been saying it for ages. Also glad to see Stew Downing prove that when the clock strikes midnight on your 27th birthday that you all of a sudden turn into a decrepid old man who needs a f***in zimmer frame. Sure i read he's one of if not the fastest player at the club. One of the biggest arguments of him not coming was that he f*** all pace well at least thats put to bed now, at least till he turns 28. Eds just had a brainwave, was thinking if we were to allow Joe Cole to speak to Tottenham and they allowed Jermain Defoe to speak to us, do you think deals could be negotiated? Im not saying a swap deal but more of a gentlemans agreement to allow each player to speak to rival clubs that they may not have considered selling too. Jermain Defoe maybe be touching the 'old' side of FSG's transfer policy, however i think he would make a great back-up striker and would surely get more game time at us than at tottenham this year?

27 Jul 2011 13:27:35
ed as you said that we maybe gonna sign a cb, lb and 4th choice striker . who are more likely ?
i know your cb scott dann

but what about the lb and striker ? {Ed002's Note - It is impossible to sensibly guess at who the most likely would be. The candidates are well knon and oft discussed here.}

27 Jul 2011 13:08:12
Ed I dont know if you will allow this but I am going to go ahead and try.

I have a signed shirt liverpool in a frame which I am replacing as I want to get my shirts signed with individual names on back.

The Liverpool shirt is the white 2009 away third shirt.

It has

Gerrards
Carraghers
Torres Around the badge area

Kuyt
Rafa
Skrtel
Insua
Rodriguez
Babel
Kyriakos
Meireles
Benayoun
Reina
Kelly
Cavallieri
Aquilani
Lucas
Pacheco
Ngog
Wilson
Spearing
Shelvey
Agger
Poulsen
El zhar

I have picture proof of myself with all the players I am just wondering if anyone would like to put in an offer as unfortunately EBAY is so full of fakes you will never get a good price for it.
As well Carragher wrote to Will as he very rarely (unless for kids) signs without a name.

Much appreciated

Santi Carzola has just signed for Malaga so he is not coming to Liverpool. Mata has a buy out clause set at 60m euros but they may listen to offers around 23+ nothing less.....and Augero is in manchester right now so he's gone to city....lets hope KK and DC have something up their sleeves before we start the season would be great if we can get a player like Mata on the right and supporting our forwards....i think we have done our work in the transfer window apart from CB or LB, i dont think we will get anymore, lets hope i am wrong.

Just wondering Eds, Joe Cole's wages must be less now than before.

If he was on 90k a week, with his 'signing on' fee spread out over the 1st year of his contract, now that 1st year is up he must be on less. Is he now on 45k a week? Because Jovanović had the same type of contract worth 60k a week, with his 1st year wages a reported 120k a week - double his weekly wage.

I'm assuming the same applies for Cole. Was his signing on fee the same as his weekly wage, and how much is he on now?

BTW fantastic site, couldn't rate it higher.
RedChris {Ed002's Note - The signing on fee was spread out, in both cases, over the length of their contracts.}

For everyone out there who thinks lucas is leaving , Liverpool would not want to upset the fans by selling their player of season As the new motto is "all in together" meaning fans opinions count just as much and also the words of Lucas himself on twitter " can not wait for new season with LFC ... #YNWA " meaning he will be staying and has no intention of going and kenny said "Lucas will not leave". heard from a reliable source that liverpool to complete a deal for shane long as back up for suarez as he is not being rushed back after the copa america. liverpool will sign one of either perrira or enrique depending on the price of both. ed who do u think liverpools marque signing will be and who do u think they will sign? {Ed002's Note - I would not hold too much hope for a "marquee" signing. Perhaps a centre back, left back and fourth choice striker.}

27 Jul 2011 12:27:18
Not really a rumour but an observation.

I think that we will undoubtedly sign a LB and CB come what may. However, I very much doubt a marquee signing will be made. Whilst we are not competing in the CL there is not point in forcing the issue as we don't have as much clout compared to other clubs.

It would be wise to wait until next year to buy 1 or 2 marquee signings and build on this season. I don't think buying them now is an option for LFC, I think that any speculation is as a result of over excited Liverpool fans.

I hope that people will agree with this.

Just a thought regarding any more transfers Liverpool will be making. I understand as many have said before that sales are the priority at this moment in time. This makes sense; not because we are broke but, because there seems little point in wasting good money on paying players that will not be used.

Furthermore I think that the players, who for whatever reason are not sold, will have an impact on any targets we will have. For example if we do sell Joe Cole (which I am not so sure we will) a better quality player who covers those positions will be targeted. If he is not sold he will have until the next transfer window to prove himself worthy. The same for Kyrgiakos, Insua etc etc.

We have already brought in 3 very good players, in my opinion, which will add strength and depth to the squad, these players I think were a must for KK.

Any other player will be a bonus and I expect that any other signings will be at the end of the transfer window, to get the best value for money. People will probably quote Andy Carroll as a last minute over priced player. I for one think yes we were held to ransom but, I think we got an extremely good player. If you look at some other signings I don't think the price was that bad given the circumstances.

Think back to Suarez a total bargain and Ajax had little choice in the end due to the deadline. Van Der Vaart is another bought late, he probably would have cost double if he was bought mid-window. I think there maybe some cheeky offers towards the end of the window for our remaining targets, if they have not already been sold.

So in essence, we have what was deemed needed. We are in a very strong position with no need to panic and could get some real bargains in the last minute sales.

I cannot wait for the season to start ;)

Couldn't be more gutted at the fact Aguero is goin to be a man city player very soon He would of made a great edition to the club and with him being a huge liverpool fan would have played his heart out 38 million Aguero or 35 million Carroll I know which deal I'd rather have took

26 Jul 2011 23:04:45
With a supposed fee of 38m for Aguero, makes the 35m we spent on AC seem crazy. Though i'm sure Aguero is probably on a couple of quid more.

---------------------------------------------------

Sorry this isn't a rumour but it's an important point. The actual fee paid for Carroll is meaningless without factoring in his wages.

Aguero may cost only 3mill more but if you add in the fact that he's bound to be on over £100 000 a week more than Carroll on a 5 year contract that makes it about 29 mill more.

If you also take into account that Gerrard would want at least the same wage as Aguero it would probably cost more like 50mill more on a 5 year contract.

In Baseball transfer fees aren't really quoted when talking about the price of players, the total cost of the transfer (including fees) and the wages for the player are quoted as this is the only meaningful measure of their value. Maybe if british journalists were more sensible they would do this too and we wouldn't have people moaning about the transfer fee we paid.

firstly i just wanna clear something up re the Lucas/mascherano debate for all you tacticians out there.

mascherano was good at 2 things..tackling and getting booked/sent off. as much as we loved to see him crunch someone, he brought very little else to the table.

Lucas on the other hand has it all, albeit we've seen little of it in the final 3rd and there's a logical reason for that.

i've been his biggest fan, even when all around were slating him (especially members of my own family).
i could see that the kid had ability and given the right coach he could flourish. rafa used one of his abilities and made him stick to the plan, which he did diligently, and for that rafa deserves respect cause he spotted it. the facr that he didn't use him further forward was down to a stevie g, as i believe he would be at his best in his position.

even under roy he did his job, which was pretty much the same as under rafa. under the king though he started to come out of his shell.
the king wants his players to do their allocated roles but at the same time play football, which comes naturally to lucas. the fact that he's been stifled is not his fault as he's been following team orders. and in that you have to give him the greatest respect because he's done his bit for the last 2-3 years without a gripe.
ask yourself this, in the games raul baulked at challenges, lucas would not have and he can unlock a defence as he has on the few occasions he's played further forward.
mark my words he's going to get better and better, and being a regular in his country's team can only but boost his self belief and confidence.

on another note i've gotta say i've been banging on about it for the last 12 months and its finally happened...downing. gonna be the best winger we've had since barnesy, looked amazing and only player who stood out v hull.

even though we've played three friendlies, you can see where the problems lie. we must invest in a CB and LB cause soto/wilson are just not good enough/ready. as i've already said i'm one for backing lads but in all of the games i've seen wilson he gives me the jittersi'd have more confidence putting kelly in there with carra as i think that's where his height and skill will be best suited. same goes for LB, insua/robinson not good enough or ready.

also i really think we must invest in one Mr J Mata. this guy will unlock defences when game is tight just like suarez does. if it costs £20-25m, it will be money well spent as he is young and only gonna improve.

if you look back to all of kenny's successful teams (not just at liverpool) you'll see that a strong back line has been the bedrock for his success, with a fluid front 2/3. in summary, to really complete & challenge we must solidify the back line with 2 quality signings (2 from godin, coates, rodwell, peirera, enrique, sissoko, vargas) plus add 1 more attacker for forward line (mata, affelay).

then look at the possibilites....
reina/doni,
johnson/kelly/flano
carra/agger
godin/skrtel
enrique/aurelio/robbo
lucas/spearing
adam/meirelles
gerrard/henderson
downing/maxi/cole
suarez/mata
carroll/kuyt

i think this squad with some of the youngsters should be able to take anyone on. the ones who are not listed should either be sold or loaned out.

Any one else slightly concerned with our activity? We were already ok in central midfield with Lucas, Gerrard, Meireles, Spearing, Shelvey and Aquilani to return etc. Although I like the signings of Henderson and Adam, I feel we had others areas needing repair ie 2 wingers a left back centre half and wolrd class striker
Most other teams have 4 great strikers , we have 2.5 if you count Kuyt Is Suarez is out and we are loosing who do you bring on to change a game?
We need some magic in the side now, Turan, Mata, Honda type of player. Any news on this search?

Aguero in Manchester for medical to become city's new strikers striker for a fee of 38 million. Am I the only one who thinks we should have gone for him over carroll? Similar age, but a much better player. I'm not one to criticise the clubs transfer policy but we seem to be paying over the odds for good premierleague players instead of buying world class players who would cost little more..I guess we can put the kun rumours to bed now..what a shame, would have been a star at anfield

Ed, who is Ed025?

I've read quite a few comments of his/hers on the main football rumours page that are very anti-LFC and quite derogatory.

Are all Ed's not supposed to be unbiased? Because all the Eds on the LFC pages are unbiased whether they support LFC or another team. {Ed002's Note - I guess on the main football pages the clubs supported by some of the Editors and their bias' may be more evident. What you will not get is the secenarion where a rival club's editor (Liverpool/Everton, Celtic Rangers, Newcastle/Sunderland etc.) is directly editing you club's page. On the main pages perhaps the rivalries will slip out. Just skip over any disparaging comments.}

Baines is desperate to join. The only problem is the blues. We would have to overpay which KK is not prepared to do so will probably sign enrique as Arsenal dont look like bidding.

27 Jul 2011 10:26:35
You people who are desperate for Lucas not to leave will have been on his back from day one, I have always said Lucas was a great player and I hardly know any one else who said this. I would love to keep hold of him, but on the other hand i think kenny prefers to play attacking football.

I agree. Some folk just don't understand the dynamics of football. The best headerer of the ball in the prem, unsettles tight rigid defences against whom we normally struggle... Not to mention Carroll was recommended to us by our OWN players who found him 'unplayable'.

dd

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Spot on dd, people think that because he can't dribble like Sergio Aquero then he's not a good player, which is like saying Luis Suarez isn't as good as Soto because he didn't make as many tackles last season. Different players have different attributes, it truly baffles me that some people don't understand this. We have a dribbler in Luis, a hard working striker in Dirk, a very good traditional LW in Downing, a great slightly more defensive midfielder in Lucas, a legend of attacking midfield play in Gerrard, a box to box midfielder in Adam, a hard-headed classic style defender in Carra, a ball playing modern style defender in Agger, a bombing attacking fullback in Johnno, an agile and intelligent keeper in Pepe and of course the monster of a striker that is Andy Carroll. So what a good manager does is says "right, we need these attributes in our team so as not to be one dimensional, i'm looking for all these style of players, and i have a list of the best options available in each of these styles". so what you get is a squad that we have now, as the players we have are quite simply the best or close to, at what they do. Then we make sure we have players that can fill in these positions when needed. SORTED. SIMPLE. DONE.

El juego hermoso.

Hi Ed's,
am I missing something on the Aqualani saga, because I don't get why we keep loaning him out. Lets say for arguments sake he was on £60k per week, that's approximately £3 million a year, so if he goes out on loan, then the other club pay his wages, therefore we save £3 million per year. But if we sold him for, lets say £5 million, then we will also be saving the £3 million per year on his wages.So why don't we just sell him for a lower price than what we are asking for, ie: £9 million. If we continue to keep loaning him out, then his contract will run down and down, and we'll end up getting nothing for him. Obvoiusly KK doesn't really fancy him, so lets get rid, at a reduced price. Also, I can't belive for the life of me that we haven't yet bought a Centre Half, last season, we lost to many games, and I deffo think the defence needing sorting as a Priority. Lets get Cahill now before the Arsenal get him, they've already shown their intent in recruiting a Centre Half by going after Jags.Also, if we offered money for Clichy without success, then who is our next target, again, lets move quickly before it's to late and go all out for Baines, Everton are skint and I think a decent bid will tempt them.

I understand where your coming from but it's a good chance to give a few younger players a run out, I obviously don't want Birmingham What a small minded post, a competition is there to be won, is the carling and Fa cups a destraction?if you are in a european competition you have to give everything to win it, or have everything to win it, or have Liverpool become so big a club that we can pick and choose when to make an effort. Liverpool become so big a club that Liverpool become so big a club that we can pick and choose when to make an effort
---------

I wasn't saying that I wouldn't want to win it if we were in it, but I don't want to be in it. Especially not since it makes sat prem games difficult if we flew back from bulgaria or ukrain 1 day earlier. Its too much of a strain and unless we always play on Sunday insteaf it will impact our prem form.

Trophies are trophies I get that but I would much rather our team and youngsters get a good run in fa cup or league cup. Less travelling, less strain, less cost. Plus I feel personally that the fa cup is a more prestigious trophy than europa league.

Not sure how certain this is but Mata seems headed to Arsenal at an unbelievably low price (relatively speaking of course). Are we in any position to hijack this, ed? Cheers. {Ed009's Note - I do believe that is what would happen. It is a similar situation to Portsmouth, isn't it?}

I thought the reason Portsmouth missed out was because they failed to register the team for European competitions. Could be wrong though.
{Ed009's Note - Whilst they didn't apply for their team to be registered, this was because they were not in a position to file their accounts in time because the club was in administration - a criterion for a Uefa club licence.}

Not a rumour but fact.
Two days ago when i checked the squad rota on lfc.tv Aqua man was listed as shirt no 99.
This morning he has no shirt listing and the reports are his loan to buy deal has been agreed with Fiorentina. Ed's>>> If this is the case how, apart from not paying his full wage bill could this help us with funds to help with the LB situation we still have not resolved.
Soulmiester. {Ed009's Note - We receive one million euros as part of the loan deal up front I suppose. In reality it doesn't help with transfer budget immediately, but it will make a difference in terms of wages, the main problem with our over sized squad.}

italian ssn are saying aquilani is asking in the loan deal there be an obligation that fiorentina buy him when the loan ends.kyb.

27 Jul 2011 08:40:47
I think the owners/management of liverpool should have some balls in this aquilani situation. I understand we have to pay approx half his wages for his first year at fiorentina. I think we should tell aqua that if he doesn't lower his wage demands he should not be sold and he can sit on the bench the whole season. If he is really desperate to leave he will finally give in.

Of course, the plan could backfire and if he ends up at liverpool we will have to pay his full wages. But even then, it would set an example for future players who want to join the club that they cannot hold the club to ransom and if they are going to be little babies they can rot on the bench.

it seems like city have taken a strict stance on tevez, and we need to instill the same discipline. they can afford to have him sitting on the bench and we can't but still......

Last Few days, Fergie already talking about the potiantial 6 team that can win the title this season. In doing so he mean that bloody MU, recognaise that they are not strong enough as what their supporters think about their team.
Even their BOSS already play down it as to get their "20th" will be very very hard. Atleast they will put their attention to their "Noisy Neighbour" as Fergie calling them during the season, let they forget the real THREAT will come from their old enemy the MIGHTY LIVERPOOL....under the KING....

Quick question for everyone,

What qualities does mascherano have that lucas doesn't?

I dunno why everyone holds masch up on some pedestal, he had two attributes, tenacity and hard tackling. He's got nothing else. Seriously what's world class about him? He's just good. Did he ever dominate midfield against united or chelsea like lucas did last year? Nope he in fact reduced us to 10 men against united because he couldn't keep his petulance in check.

Mascherano is not fit to lick hammans boots clean.

Anyone else hoping that we don't get europa league? And not just because its at briminghams expense.

Its a crap trophy with little prize money and is a massive distraction from donestic trophies which are far more important. You also have increased risk of fatigue and injuries due to the distance you travel the quality of pitches and training facilities and also the rough tactics of many central and eastern european teams.

I was glad that we got knocked out of it last year as its a waste of time and kk clearly thinks so as well as his team selections and tactics in europa were the exact same as hodgeson (arguably worse). It was embarassing being in that competition the way we played was embarassing and how we went out was embarassing. Let's not repear that. Really hope we don't get it.

Here's a question to add to the debate about Lucas. If selling him brought in $12 million (excuse the dollar sign) and we could buy a quality left back using this money (not Enrique) and not be so dependent on shifting the "deadwood" to raise funds, would you take it?

Great site eds, read it everyday.

Liverpool will not be selling Brazilian midfielder Lucas despite speculation that he would help balance the books after Kenny Dalglish's heavy spending this summer.

The Reds do not normally comment on transfer speculation, and are making no official response concerning the rumours, but a source at the club told ESPNsoccernet: ''There is nothing to say about this. It is rubbish''.

Lucas was voted Player of the Year last season at Anfield, but with £49 million of new players brought in to bolster the midfield over the summer - Stewart Downing from Aston Villa, Sunderland's Jordan Henderson and Blackpool's Charlie Adam - competition in his department is fierce and the Brazilian's options might be more limited.

However, having only signed a new deal in March, Dalglish sees him as part of his future plans and still views him as starter ahead of the likes of Joe Cole, Alberto Aquilani, Christian Poulsen, Jonjo Shelvey and Jay Spearing.

Hope this ends all the BS created by S*N

I know youtube can make most players look phenomenal but have a look at the Andy Carroll highlights sometime and remind yourselves what a potential monster of a player we have purchased. He has a sweet bullet of a left peg; he is unstoppable in the air regardless how many defenders are around him , and there were goals against Doncaster and Scunthorpe where he easily out-paced defenders when put through on goal. I think if he keeps injury-free he is going to be devastating for LFC this season. Combined with Luis and a fit Stevie G, the other PL managers are already soiling their undies.

In theory yes, its a great idea, but on the other hand it'll just eliminate the competition in other countries, i love the idea of nurturing and raising your own players from seedlings, but the revenue will drop due to lack of stars for a few years until things are sorted out, and with that drop it would be hard for clubs smaller than europes top clubs to stump up the cost of doing this. Good idea but very tough regulations to implement

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It would be gd for the international team but will be bad for the clubs. spain has a similar rule and only barca or madrid win anything and its been that way for decades with no team able to come close to them. the prem is much more competitive then the spanish league because it doesnt have these kinds of rules.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

yeh prem is really competetive the last 15 years, i was over the moon when wigan won the league last year. More money means better players, then better players mean more money, the rich clubs get richer, the poor clubs suffer, football clubs perfectly reflect society as a whole. These regulations would be great, very tough to get it up and running, but ultimately it'd HELP clubs, as they don't have to fork out stupid money to try to compete with the "bigger" clubs, they can grow their own talent, yes that costs money, but much less than Sergio Aguero's wage demands. As i stated before(i was the first reply to original poster) it's tough, but thinking about it more and more this morning it's definately a good idea, and once the initial period is over and clubs have developed some decent player.... what...5 years or so, then it'd start to win back the revenue it lost over those 5 years. Then a club like birmingham can develop a player, sell him to chelsea at some stupid price and them birmingham makes some money that they can either put into their academy, or use to fund a massive transfer for a popular foreign player, which would then raise more money for that poorer club, it's help even out the financial playing field i think, personally i can't see this change happening, but it's a good idea.

El juego hermoso.

Just wanted to share the following link with everyone

sportsillustrated.cnn.com/video/soccer/2011/07/26/072611.darren_burgess_liverpool_fc.SportsIllustrated/

it's an interview with our head fitness coach darren burgess, a good watch for all reds no doubt.

Anyway, 2 things he said stuck out, firstly stewart downing is our quickest player according to darren burgess (for all those who say we need "genuine" pace down the wing) and secondly, he talks about luis suarez and lucas leiva being away at the Copa America and says that they could both still play the first few games of the season but that they might have to monitor it after that (so perhaps they will both start or come off the bench from game 1, not miss weeks because their unfit)

Oh and Pepe Reina is a legend, love that guy

The government has been ordered to publish documents revealing the discussions held by Margaret Thatcher about the 1989 Hillsborough disaster, in which 96 Liverpool fans died in a crush at the stadium in Sheffield.

Ruling that release of the documents was in the public interest, the information commissioner said it was right to publish the record of a Cabinet meeting on 20 April 1989 in which the then prime minister and her ministers spoke of the disaster, which took place five days earlier.

The judgment by Christopher Graham relates to a freedom of information request by the BBC more than two years ago, which was refused by the Cabinet Office. He rejected the office's argument that the disclosure would impact negatively on the freedom with which ministers can engage in "free and frank discussions", and on the convention of collective responsibility.

"In this case there had been multiple changes in government between the time the information was recorded and the date of the request, " Graham said. "Also, the subject matter of the discussions recorded within the information in question centred on a very particular set of circumstances that were no longer current at the time of the request.

"As a result the view of the Commissioner is that the argument in favour of maintenance of the exemption relating to convention of collective Cabinet responsibility is not a factor of significant weight in favour of maintenance of the exemption."

He also said the passage of time since the information was recorded was a key factor.

"This information was 20 years old at the time of the request and, as the complainant has noted, the current Government is implementing a reduction of the current 30-year period before Government papers are released to 20 years, " he said.

He therefore recognised "that there is a diminishing case for withholding information over 20 years old".

The rejection of the BBC's initial Freedom of Information request was followed by an internal review which upheld the refusal, prompting an application for the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) to review the request in September last year.

In his judgment, the commissioner hit out at "unjustified and excessive" delays as he ordered the government to publish information relating to the disaster provided to Thatcher and the minutes of meetings she attended on the matter.

The ruling was welcomed by Pat Joynes, who lost her son Nicholas in the Sheffield tragedy. She told the BBC: "Twenty-two years ago, when Mrs Thatcher came to Liverpool Cathedral, my husband asked her face-to-face if there was going to be a cover-up, and she said: 'Mr Joynes, there will be no cover-up.' But there has been a cover-up which has persisted ever since." Joynes is a member of the Hillsborough Family Support Group.

The commissioner's judgment may still be subject to an appeal, which would need to be lodged with the First-tier Tribunal (Information Rights) within 28 days.

If there is no appeal, the Cabinet Office has 35 days to comply with the order.

Anyways just been reading up on a kid by the name of nathan dyer swansea tricky winger, first off how "tricky" is this winger as i have not seen him play how do you rate him and what sort of player is he similar too, secondly the fee touted is 2m sounds ridicolous but i think worth a gamble if he lives up to his tag... could you please inspire me if you have any relevant info?

Why aren't English clubs better at producing players

Fnancial muscle of English club £2.3bn on imports last 10 seasons, Nine out of the last 10 years, England has topped the net spend league among Europe's 'big five' leagues part from Cristiano Ronaldo's record-breaking sale to Real Madrid.

1-English clubs still win less than their fair share of Champions Leagues (just three out of 21 since their return to European competition in 1990) and UEFA Cup/Europa Leagues (only one since 1990).

Carlos Tevez
Cesc Fabrega
Cristiano Ronaldo
Xabi Alonso
Javier Mascherano
all want to move away from england? why..why do the best player. Is the EPL being asset stripped

Are the english longball specilists with no technical grace. Since 2007 big name players have been leaving EPL on mass for Spain's Real Madrid or Baracelona

Is spainish natural language to these players. Has the money been wasted. Are English clubs supporting a ungraful europe.

We import on mass. they come here at inflated wages, inflated transfer fees. In the end english supporter + sky subscribers are fueling this behaviour.

Truely gifted players should teach english players and help delvlope national game. Not overwhelming the league and kill off the last of english.
