A dream summer and note I said dream:
Pedro 23 million
Ramirez 17 million
Rondon 15 million
Lovren 10 million
Sell skrtel aqua cole maxi kuyt and spearing or maybe even Adam but I think we should keep.
That will leave net spend at around 20-25 million but wage bill will have reduced (I don't really know what pedro would be on but if it is high go for Munian instead) and we will have a great young team which will only get better.

By the way I know it would very difficult to convince these players to join especially pedro and Munian.

Or just keep Skrtel, because there is no way we'd get Lovren for 10m, he may not be the biggest name about town, but he'd cost a fortune.

Here are my 2 cents ( to coin a phrase from our owners ) If a player decides for whatever reason that they wish to move to a different cub for extra money, then in my opinion, we have had a lucky escape. I would rather support a team full of players willing to give their all for our shirt and traditions than anyone after a fast buck. Why should we jeopardize our financial situation, which tbh hasn't been great until FSG came in and stopped us going into administration, our money should be spent wisely, maybe uncovering the next SG or JC coming through the ranks, or hiding away in a lower league team, be it here or abroad. This has always been the true LFC way, we never bought the next big thing, we always found the gems we wanted through researching the lower and less known teams, to building them into superstars. We are not buyers of household names, we are makers f household names. Give our new management the chance to succeed or fail before we start making judgements on how good or poor a job they are doing.

Red4Ever

I do like your outlook on things ,spend good money if and when I top player comes on the market ,the rest we try and get good young players in we should have the cash for that ,to chase the best young players with a good head on there shoulders ,I believe in the owners we have fallen be hide clubs ie stadium ,sponsorship ,the behind the close doors ,there a lot we don't know do we think the club been run great in past and them people have give it there best and took the club forward no they ant ,new start ,new owners way at looking at things we might not c wot there up two but I believe they putting the right plan together and people ,yes think they made mistakes but really do think they are learning as fast as they can ,and not make them again YNWA lfc linc

It does look like the sig deal has fell through and he will make up his mind this weekend. But I do expect Ramirez to sign and also a couple of fairly unknown players

You're really sticking your neck out here lad

I don't think the wages issue surrounding Sigurdsson makes sense as a reason for not buying him. He's young enough that we won't get stuck paying his contract a la Cole and Poulsen, as he will have definite resale value - Spurs' interest is clear evidence of this. If you ask me, we're just playing hardball over the transfer fee and someone from Hoffenheim has leaked the news that Spurs have agreed a fee to try and up Liverpool's bid. I don't believe Sig would choose Spurs over Liverpool, I think he wants to join Rodgers and Liverpool know that so are refusing to pay over the odds - Hoffenheim want Liverpool to think they might miss out. I may be wrong but I'd put a lot of money on Gylfi Sigurdsson wearing a Liverpool shirt next season

Red Ollie

I think Liverpool may look to Ramirez instead. I would like sigardson as he is young and represents a great deal but I also think Ramirez could become a star.

Talknig to some spurs fans tonight the feeling is that they (the fans) dont want him (siggy), they are convinced that modric will go to madrid and they will get sahin and that avb will arrive and bring moutinho...lot of london press kinda reporting the same thing

OMG... 2 the second poster ramirez is clearly better than sigurdsson, and he is younger. And I'd be worried if we as a club or if our manager rates sigurdsson higher. Therefore ramirez should be the first target in that position.

Buy both of them.

Can't wait to see a team like this in the future: Reina, Johnson, Kelly, agger, Robinson, Gerrard and Lucas in the centre with silva, suso and sterling behind Suarez. Who says we need to buy anyone :)

Will like to see it in 2 years . depand on too many young player togather can be risky

8th place says so?

Gazman

I would be made up if in two years time 6 of our starting 11 our from our academy. Would be fantastic to see and hopefully it's were we're heading... only time will tell. I think, from what i've seen, Coady as well has a real chance. CQ

I doubt you will ever see that but I do sterling suso have a good chance and their is a lot of good defenders like wisdom Sama McLaughlin Robinson etc. I think sterling and suso could be gems though.

Liverpool have lodged bids for Gaston Ramirez and Gylfi Sigurdsson, both players will help Brendan Rodgers bring his tiki taka football style to merseyside. Liverpool face competition for both players but they both have connections at Anfield and I have a feeling they will choose Liverpool. I also expect Liverpool to sign a holding midfielder probably Victor Wanyama and a striker probably Luc Castaignos and possibly a left back but I don't know if we are interested in anyone . Liverpool have let go of Dirk Kuyt and Fabio Aurelio while Nathan Eccleston is also close to the exit door. Alberto Aquilani, Jay Spearing, Dani Pacheco, Maxi Rodriguez, Joe Cole and Brad Jones are all widely expected to leave the club this summer while I have heard many conflicting rumours on Charlie Adam's future I think he will likely be at Anfield at the end of the transfer window.

27 Jun 2012 22:46:09
Hi eds, recently Luuk De Jong hasn't been mentioned regarding a move to Liverpool, but I came across an article today which states we are again in the market for De Jong following Borinis desision to stay where he is
Have you heard anything in the past few days or do you believe it is a recycled story. Thanks mate.
{Ed016's Note - recycled}

27 Jun 2012 22:42:48
Personally i'd prefer a player who has set another league alight with no EPL experience, over a player whos played in a mid table premier league side for ages and done very little to show he is world class. Sometimes experience in a league doesnt matter and raw talent can be enough to cope in a league where it has been proven top quality foreigners are more than capable of taking apart teams like wigan and fulham (Aguero, Silva, Ronaldo, Mata, Drogba, Suarez, Modric, Van Der Vaart, Nani etc etc.).

Sign them all!

Personally i'd prefer a gianfranco zola or a dennis berkamp to a niall quinn or a dion dublin. Good work on stating the bleedingly obvious there pal.

27 Jun 2012 22:36:49
Paul Merson said "Andy Carroll should be ashamed for not taking a penalty" against Italy. Cristiano Ronaldo didnt take a penalty for Portugal and he is the 2nd best player in the world.

Mersons argument was that all strikers should take penalties and how could Carroll let a defender such as Ashley Cole take a penalty. Two of spains defenders took penalties and they were both unbelievably good penalties, especially Ramos. The point is most players can score from 12 yards you just need to be confident and experienced which Carroll is not.

You should be ashamed Merson for being a general twit.

RedChris

I wouldn't listen to that fat G*T, Listen to what shearer says, he has nothing but good praise for Andy.

Trying to remember Torres pen against barcelona.

Not to mention that most of the time the players don't decide who takes the kicks... dense this one!

hulmerous

Ronaldo is the 5th Penalty taker. but portugal don't have to take it as they lost already .

It's Paul Merson mate, what do you expect!!

I don't suppose Andy had the choice. And Ashley Cole scored one of the best pens in the CL final.... playing position is irrelevant..wasn't Phil Neal ,a defender , our penalty taker in the 70's /80's?

KJS

Defenders taking penalties are under a little less pressure as they are seen as less likely to score. It puts a little more pressure on the keeper and a little less on the taker. Hence Ramos and Pique taking ahead of Pedro and Navas.

Red Ollie

Who was down to take the English 5th Penalty?

Anyone know?

Thomas

He hasn't a clue mate. Honestly, you'd think gary neville's feeding him comments to make through an earpiece at times.

Eds I know twitter aint reliable but this ain't off twitter is sigurdsson still deciding or has he decided and are completing a deal with spurs or lfc and who do think he will sign for. Please post as it is annoying me and I want ur opinion

{Ed016's Note - It's really unknown. The window doesn't open up till the 1st mate. Last I heard he wanted to play for Rodgers}

If he signs for us because he wants to play for Liverpool, it's a good signing. If he signs for spurs because he wants more money we've missed out on nothing.

After spending countless hours reading this site and occasionally posting my views on certain subjects. I have never claimed to have a source or whatever. However that has now changed! I have now discovered my own little source as one of my best mates has relocated to liverpool as his dad has taken up a position at the club which involves him kind of liaising with with club officials and external parties outside of liverpool such as community charities and the like. (so essentially a secretary haha) however this does mean he gets fair amount of time around the 'big' people in the club. Anyway long story short i have a nice little rumour for you that im sure will make the people who are feeling down as little appears to be happening and we seem to
Be missing out on targets. I have heard that our 3 main targets in the positions we are most hoping to reinforce are Gourcuff for playmaker, Pedro for winger, and Abel Hernandez for striker. Hope these plans come to fruition as they are all available and not completely out of our reach with some smart selling and effective negotiating.
Cheers guys and eds!

Willster :) {Ed042's Note - this is believable.}

I hope it's not true ...
Tom Red

Imo...

Gourcuff is heavily, heavily overrated. Still living of his billing as the 'next Zidane', pretty awful player.

Pedro is a fantastic winger, one of the biggest reasons Barcelona have looked nothing like the same team as last season(2010/11) is because Pedro was essentially replaced by Sanchez. Pedro would solve our massive problem at RW.

I am a massive fan of Abel Hernandez, but I fail to see how we will get him from Palermo, considering they have massive financial backing. They have no need to sell one of their best players, and I am sure Ed002 talked about them looking to bring in a 'big name' striker. Only possible if they are looking to replace Hernandez.

Jatt YNWA

Would love pedro as I think he is world class but I don't rate corcouf (spelling) at all. I would much prefer Ramirez or sigardson in that role or even sign Munian. I haven't seen much of Abel Hernandez but have only heard good things perhaps some of you could tell me what you think of himm.
Thanks jc

Ppl fail to remember the vital peice of the jigsaw with regard to FSG policy on players.. they like to buy players with a point to prove, players who have troubled backgrounds, players that havent reached their potential yet, players that are cheap because of the above and therefore have a low risk factor if they cannot turn the player around.. They also have no issue with paying out bigtime for world class players.. So expect to see a lot of players of all different styles and issues being linked with us!

Is there anyone else bored of this siggurdson talk my god its been going on for ages , if he wants to go to spurs then let him we will get someone else!!

27 Jun 2012 22:01:44
People on here and other forums are so frustrating. Had a new manager for 5 mins and people already moaning we haven't signed anyone. Transfer window isn't even open and stays open quite a while! Surely you'd want BR to assess the squad rather than waste money. Act like actual lfc fans and trust in the club and manager, review things at the end of the window! {Ed042's Note - I do agree we need to give him time}

There's plenty of talented players out there to choose from in the big wide world.

So how come man utd chelski and arsenal have been able to sign new players if the transfer window for foriegn players doesnt open till july 1st {Ed005's Note - Because agreements can be signed with the players but they don't officially sign or become players of the respective clubs until July 1st.}

27 Jun 2012 21:51:39
Great work eds...answering some of the same questions over and over!

Just wanted to say that I think it's excellent that it's quite obvious that no one knows what's going on. People are just being too impatient and need to trust what is being done behind the scenes. I wish people were also more realistic in their own personal targets coz some of them are laughable and people need to realise that we are in a stage of rebuilding and have a great foundation to work on. I think Brendan Rodgers will inspire our existing players, bring in a couple of the players that suit his style and offload a couple that don't. It's not all about getting the best players for every position, it's about having a balance of great players, world class players and team players and a strategy that gets them playing free flowing, confident football to inflict fear in to the opponents. I think people need to be patient and wait and see what happens, support who we bring in and drop the negativity (from some).

Also Gylfi has said on his twitter yesterday that 'he knows he he will sign for and will only say once the deal is completed'. If its us, great in my opinion, if not, then good luck to the lad (not against us of course).

Thanks again eds

Mike G

not gonna happen but would love moutinho, him lucas and gerard in midfield would be amazing plus hes pretty nifty in the defensive role as well so would be cover for lucas if he was out

27 Jun 2012 21:22:21
And because he's way overrated

27 Jun 2012 21:11:58
Please just let sigurdsson go, he really isn't that good, Honda, Ramirez, Banega would all be far better. Mark my words he is a BIG fish in a LITTLE pond, he never set anything alight in Germany and had a reasonable half season here (I personally didnt notice him atall, but apparently he did well), if he goes to us or spurs he will not make any improvement to either starting line up, back up player at best.

Thats funny in his first season in hoffenheim the fans voted him player of the year.

He did very well in Germany but if we didn't go for him because we are intending on going for Ramirez instead I will be delighted.

27 Jun 2012 21:27:39
you have to laugh at all those crying because we have not signed anyone yet and arsenal and chavski and the scum are signing players well in my opinion all the players signed by those have a lot to do to adapt to the epl especially those signed by arsenal and that media whore hazard and i suspect that maybe two off those three will probably flop , we have not signed anybody not because the money is'nt there but because the owners and the manager and who ever else is involved in the transfers are probably doing a bit more research into the targets than was done last year so this time next year we wont be having the same debate on the signings being a waste of money or that we overpaid for them and off course the trnsfer window has not even opened yet , how many players have barca , real etc signed none that i know off so patience is the key here we will sign players and sell players but as long as we have improved it does'nt matter if we do the deals now or on the 31st of august so long as they make us more competitive !!!!!!!

27 Jun 2012 20:59:41
What's the latest on stadium ? {Ed042's Note - A redevelopment of Anfield looks most likely at this time}

Google 'peter mcgurk blog' and read the anfield bits - there are 5 parts. Very long and detailed but a very very good read. Will really help you understand the whole stadium saga.

SCF27

The cheap option..............

auntie annie.........

I read tht blog from peter mc gurk , its very good and very impressive!! also those saying its the cheap option so what if it is christ lets just waste more money we dont have to dont be so stupid , 60000seats at anfield or 60000 seats in a new stadium at twice the price would make a lot of sense hope your not an accountant

I'd be pleasantly surprised if we have bid for Ramirez, considering how ponderous we've been over Sigurdsson. Not saying we won't but it would be a shock. Can't see us buying both and perhaps we'll get neither and move onto the third choice, probably Elm (but that was more likely a Kenny target).

I'd also be surprised if Skrtel is sold, but 20mil or there abouts is a very good fee, as he'd had a couple of iffy years before last season. Although breaking a quality centre half pairing is always a risk.

I hope the Adam Johnson rumours are false. The kids got talent, but I think he's a little headless at times and I think we need someone he's really just a slight upgrade on Downing. As much as I'd love a player like James Rodriguez, it just won't happen. That's where we need champions league football, not only to attract but also to pay the higher wages.

It's honourable to try and lower the wage bill, but its hard to make amends for the previous owners mistakes, e.g Cole and Aquilani. Purslow was handing out giant contracts to anyone, hell I bet even the cleaners on 50k.

I think BR is the right man to try and right wrongs, including Kenny's and hopefully once the stadium issue is resolved we'll finally be a stable profitable company. Thanks to Rafa and Kenny's work with the academy, we've got a bright future and a young manager to lead us there. This season isn't make or break, but this window, both for ins and outs is vital.

Papa G

I slight upgrade? the way he's been playing i'd be Pi$$ed if i was sterling or more so maxi.

To be fair, the cleaner has probably done more for LFC than aquilani.
Red Steve

True he/she would even probably attempt a tackle.

My brother-in law who works at Melwood, heard from figures of power inside the club that After months of speculation, Liverpool FC are set to announce a major naming rights deal with Standard Chartered. The figure mentioned was 175 million. Work is expected to start in October. Redeveloping Anfield has proved to have too many stumbling blocks and the local council has been applying pressure for the move to stanley park.

Would your B in Law be Mr T Witter ?

Mr t witter, haha quality

27 Jun 2012 20:03:41
Its obvious that Brendan Rodgers is not the man for the job. Nobody wants to sign for us. We will lose Suarez, Agger, Reina, Johnson and Skrtel. Next season is going to be even worse than last year. I reckon fans will be asking for Rodgers to be sacked after 8 games, He's too small time. Paul. {Ed042's Note - Be patient Paul. We haven't lost any of the above players you have stated and unless suitable offers come in that FSG deem fit for that player, they won't be sold. Rodgers hasn't even had a pre season game yet so at this time I'd say give him a chance.

Just sign off with 'Paul the Manc' next time mate.

People criticize when you don't sign your name, then mock you when you do, just because he said something you don't agree with, it's his opinion which he's entitled to. YNWA JFT96 Ollivander.

He's also not even had a day in the international transfer market since it ain't even open yet...

Shocking...

As you say. Rodgers is small time.

Ms Mckay from Anfield complaining about possible Ground extension taking away her home and memories of where she had her daughters etc.Do feel for her,but if she looks around said houses where she lives, its now derelict by her.Theres little left.Surely she sees that? Surely a new home/compensation for one nearby or elsewhere in a less delapidated road is better and enevitable for her and family. The area benefits. And to be brutal a lot of people have Anfield memories aswell.Im not attacking lady but you do have to question her motives, with rack and ruin all around her.

She might be a bluenose. Ha ha

One would guess she is attempting to haggle!..and im pretty sure she will get a better offer the longer she holds out for..

Hey eds. I just wanted to ask.... Is the new/old logo which is seen on the new kits, going to be used as the main club logo? As it doesnt seem to appear anywhere else (website, tv, etc).

{Ed002's Note - No idea, sorry. But the logos are all registered so they can change when they wish.}

Just noticed this on Wikipedia... Gaston Ramirez's current club is Liverpool.... {Ed002's Note - Done deal then.}

Eds just read it myself .might be doctored but does say it cheers psv

Someone did the same to Xabi Alonso's Wikipedia page in May. Said he returned to Liverpool for the '12/13 season.

Not sure if this has already been answered but I can't find it so are the reports regarding sky italia confirming we have bid 15m euros for ramirez true? I'd like to think so. Cheers eds

27 Jun 2012 19:22:24
Lets talk Gylfi Sigurdsson! Fantastic player! no doubt about it. We and Spurs are interested. His preferred destination is Anfield but the money Spurs are offering is more attractive. What has football come to. But it's true!, money does talk! but i really hope we sign him up. would make my summer!

27 Jun 2012 19:50:29
Can someone post a link to the gaston ramirez story if possible please? Would be much appreciated.

Ok nevermind thanks ed, didn't realise it was from twitter.

It's been reported in Gazetta for sure and apparently Sky Italia did a story on it but I haven't seen it

booing an opponent albeit cringeworthy is understandable, but what is the purpose of irritatingly whistling at a player or team in possession? it surely can't put a player off because footballers are immune to opposition fans venting at them

Maybe we should all sit there in dignified silence then.

MIKEY

Come on now mikey maybe a gentle round of applause when some one scores but nothing to boisterous we wouldn't want to offend any one now would we lol

Ed(s) or Macca,
Is J.Rodriguez (Porto) a realistic target for us?
... I guess what I'm trying to say is -
Are we likely to spend a reported 30M Euros on just one player?

Any info you guys have RE: transfer sizes/wages that we are willing to pay would be great. Top site, keep it up

27 Jun 2012 18:59:46
Just want to wish Terry McDermott luck at his new club. A true legend and scorer of my favourite ever goal

Chris in Tamworth

The Everton semi final, the Spurs away, Aberdeen away, or the 7-0 last goal ?
What a player.
Sigurdsson my apse !
The Real KB

Its got to be the 7-0 the ball into heighway's stride was possibly the best ball ive ever see, outside of the foot at pace straight to feet. They dnt make them like that anymore!

Ian the red

What about the first goal in the Rome European Cup 1977. Terry Mac - a total legend.

27 Jun 2012 18:52:38
All this to do about Sigurdsson! Get some perspective!

Why should we pay over the odds wages, if Spurs want to take that risk, fine!

Look what we're paying Joe Cole, we could buy a better younger player and pay those wages with resale value.

Sigg is a younger player but a potential risk as he's only had half a seson in the Prem and Hoffenheim aren't too bothered. Crikey, you would have thought we'd lost out on signing Wesley Snjeder!

27 Jun 2012 18:41:29
I believe that BR will first have discussions with all the team players, and determine who is potentially unsettled and looking to move ( for one reason or the other), from this he will be able to determine what the immediate priorities are (or replacements).

27 Jun 2012 19:02:49
What about Negredo?

Im just kidding! Just wanted to be 1st!

At least Suarez would have a sound excuse next time..LOL

Funny thing is I would have wanted him before todays game.

27 Jun 2012 18:50:01
Twitter is full of Sky Italia saying we've bid 15m for Gaston Ramirez! Yet I've tried to find a link but can't find one...

Any one got a link?

I have searched all over Sky Italia to no avail. There is nothing at all in regards to Ramirez and Liverpool.

G'Day All,

Just a friendly reminder if It is true Sigurdsson has had his head turned by money he is not Liverpool material.

Neither is Downing but we still wasted £20m on him.

I posted earlier but don't think my question was understood or was dismissed as too jokey. So I will try again, when Rodgers was appointed there was talk of a 'team' being put in place to work together and take the club forward, I guess we are talking business director, sports director ?? There has been a bit of talk about Hogan the financial guy who already work's for fsg but not much else. Any updates on the situation ?? as the club was quite adamant they would be going down this route

Cheers
G.P {Ed002's Note - It was dealt with earlier - I know nothing of all of these new directors. I really have no idea what you are talking about.}

I think the situation changed slightly and we have appointed two people from man city, I think.

Names have been around if you look.

Thomas {Ed002's Note - Not as directors. Dave Fallows as joined to head up the scouting and recruitment function and Barry Hunter in some scouting role.}

Ed 002 Are you being sarcastic because I used the word director? The owners made it clear they don't believe in the English 'manager does it all' method and would be employing people to help with transfers youth development and other football related areas. So have the club changed their stance on this and decide just to refresh the scouting staff?? Or can we still expect more recruitment in the 'advisory' positions for want of a better term.

Cheers
G.P {Ed002's Note - It is not being sarcastic. You wrote all of this nonsense that the owners said there would be a director of sports, a business director. As it turns out you were just making stuff up. All that they are doing is putting a new management structure in place and much of that has been done.}

27 Jun 2012 18:32:26
Hey Eds any updates on Sigurdsson m8? Loads of speculation but only that . I'm looking on various times and hope were going to sign some top players . {Ed002's Note - Nothing new.}

Hey Eds
Just wanted to ask why we didn't push ahead and agree a deal to sign Sigurdsson. I can't help but think if we had got the deal agreed then Spurs wouldn't be looking likely to capture his signature ahead of us.

Also, I'm hearing we have made a 15million bid for Gaston Ramirez. Any truth to this?

Harry The Red

Could I get a reply please?

Who are the players you think we have a good chance of buying?

Cheers.

Sky Italia now attesting Gazzetta dello Sport's initial claims that Liverpool have tabled a bid of £15m to land Gastón Ramírez from Bologna!

EDDOO1 preferabbly, mate ive watched downing closely all season an I believe he just wont cut it as a starter on the wings. However I think he is good on the ball and has an excellent left foot and if given less responsability would wip in more crosses and play better as a left wing back and would gain more confidence consequently. He wasn't bought to play in that position but he was bought to wip in crosses and create goals. I really think he would strive in that position. Its like Gerrard for instance,if he was put to Right back he would be the best right back in the world. ED, what do you think of the downing role would you agree with me and do u think BR would consider it mate ?

Melbourne' {Ed001's Note - I don't see it, he just needs more confidence, in my opinion. I have spoken to him a few times a while ago and he came across as a nice but shy lad. Watching him in training, while he was at Boro, he was always a bit Jekyll and Hyde, purely because of his confidence levels. Which is why their managers used to big him up so much in the media, they were always looking to boost his confidence. All we need to do is get him up and he will be a different player.}

I agree ed, look at his first 3 or 4 matches for Liverpool. He was fantastic, running at defenders, shooting crossing. He was just desperately unlucky and didnt bag the goals he deserved and his confidence dropped and since then has been poor. Watch him under Rodgers be fantastic

Sigurdsson to Tottenham next week due to more Liverpool penny pinching on wages and sluggishness in the transfer market FANTASTIC

Hi eds, is there any truth in the rumours regarding to the Skrtel&AJ swap? I would definitely prefer Krasic mainly because he was recommended by one of the eds. What is your opinion about A.Johnson? How do you rate him? Please, answer. Thanks in advance for your help.

Ignore all the rags that Gylfi Sigurdsson is on his way to spurs....yes spurs made a offer and he has not accepted or declined it be my source tells me he has his heart set on Liverpool and really likes BR its just the formalities that need sorting out.. I have it from a very good source. if he does sign for spurs I will go to our first home game in just leathe underpants and a man u cap on..( not a pretty sight) but thats how confident I am

Hmm. I think your post needs to be filed away for future use...

Hi ed please post this, fresh reports from sky italia saying we bid 15 million for Ramirez, any truth? Lot of rumours up where I work in Scotland that Liverpool and a few other PL teams are interested in Gary Hooper and also Alan McGregor from rangers. Not to sure how much truth there is behind this talk but I thought I'd let you know.

Cheers

Rob

Chers Rob, perhaps your self or an Ed can answer this for, personally id like McGregor as a reserve keeper, but given his current situation at Rangers, would he a free agent or could rangers take legal action against him or Lfc or both in the event of a possible transfer for compensation for breaking his contract. I dont unfortunately have a degree in employment law !

R_R

Not sure about the whole legal situation but I think McGregor would be a decent back up keeper

Is there actually any significant weight behind these Gaston Ramirez rumours or is it just cus the press are short of something to write about?

quick question for the eds this site is cool and to think i was using the liverpool page for my info is so funny that said. the one beef i have is you guys tend to allow the same questions to be posted again and again like whats the news with sig thats on the page 5 times plus every day cant these repetitive questions be regulated.and not meaning to insult anyone i know its a tough job so full respect {Ed002's Note - The Sigurdsson posts were let go yesterday so people can see the level of posts we get and to show that nobody bothers to read the answers given. Perhaps we should let through some of the abuse we get when we cut the posts. It is impossible to please everyone I am afraid so you just need to suck it up and move on.}

Ed002, maybe you could start an "abuse received" page and let the guys "abuse the abuser" After all, Scousers are renowned for their sense of humur so I'm pretty certain there'll be some hillarious responses! And you could X-rate it, "prove you're over 18" viewing only! Do the same with a "subject of the day" for repeat questions! Should be eay to set up a filter to direct the posts to the appropriate page

sp {Ed002's Note - I would rather it went away as opposed celebrating it.}

Ed002, I wasn't being serious. I'm sure a good majority of fans aren't offensive unfortunately trolling happens on social sites as we've all seen on the news, sometimes with very serious consequences. No excuses for it, seems there's a lot of sad people out there!

Ok thanks for answering

hey eds:) im reading everywhere we have made a bid for gaston ramirez? is this true? or have we made any recent enquires about him? is there a good possibility he could sing for us? {Ed002's Note - If you read "everywhere" I would have thought that you would have read the other posts on this site.}

I think Gaston only sing's in the bath! Or when he's winning?

Ed do you think we will see more of Sterling this season and atleast get a glimpse of Suso? They are of age look at all the guys that stepped up at an early age Owen Gerrard, Carragher, Finnan.

27 Jun 2012 16:34:30
Hey Ed's , if you's don't mind me answering , are we the club that have bid 15 mil pounds for gaston ramirez ? {Ed002's Note - You need to probably ask that of someone else.}

Sky Italia have said that Liverpool have made a £15mil bid for Ramirez. Also Man City want Skrtel and would pay £20mil and give Adam Johnson, if that is the case I expect the fee to be lower however I feel that would be a decent deal

No i'd rather keep skertl unless an offer of over 20 million be's submitted, no adam johnson. why do you want him he hasn't fufilled his potential as he was supposed to. i would rather we get a better winger than him.
derryred

I have been impressed with johnson when seen him play he has done well

27 Jun 2012 16:24:56
Liverpool as always wait to long in the transfer market. I have been a red all my life who excepts we are an average team. It will take us forever to get where we were. I like Rodgers and he is saying all the right things but I would of brought Rafa back. We will soon see YNWA

Well if we bought rafa back we would deffo ba a mid table team. it was him who put us there in the first place. at least under rodgers if we come mid table at least we'll get entertained.
derryred

How did Rafa put us mid table? He never finished m that position during his reign.

Jonesred

Yeah derryred you are very right! thats shows your knowledge in liverpool history. I believe you are the guys who wanted Hodgson when rafa left then cried loud for kenny. show some respect for the guy who gave his all for Liverpool and started the G&H revolution.

How did Rafa put us there in the first place? We finished 2nd in the league one season and that only went down hill afterwards because of Tom & Jerry holding back funds.

If we'd had rafa bk then every signing would be known by now. Much better to stay quiet, it's the Liverpool way, which you should accept if your a fan.

Realistic red

Tom and jerry gave fafa the money to buy johnson and aqauman in his last season , add their fees and wages up , get your facts right tafa left the club with a very big wage bill wich we are still trying to get down

Portsmouth owed us around 10 million at the time so we bought Johnson for 17.5million. Subtract the 10 million and you get a very average amount. Aquilani was paid for in instalments meaning that we paid around 4/5 million every year.

BthekingB

Btheking that's surely the worst financial excuse ever. We still paid 17.5m. It was a poor transfer in terms of outlay and contract. Don't get me wrong I love rafa and like glen as a player. And don't agree that it's rafas fault were in such a mess.or where. Just don't get the logic behind your statement. CQ

He sold alonso which gave him 30m to spend and thats how we paid for aqua and johnson

BthekingB

Good maths there pal. lol. I hope you don't work in finance, if you do - it would explain a few things. lol.

27 Jun 2012 16:08:39
Does anyone think Downing and Adam should be given second chance? Personally, I think Downing has never been anymore than an average winger in premierleague. Not bad, but not great. He had his best year ever at Villa, and we bought him at massively inflated price. Would anyone pay even 10 million for him now? Unlikely. I would really like to see Downing move on. Adam however would be a reasonable player for Europa and Carling Cup. That is, assuming Cole and Aquaman don't stay.

I somehow still believe in Adam. He was doing fine when we had Lucas. its true, attacking wise he is fine, but if u ask him to do what Lucas does, he becomes a liability.

if nobody wants Downing, id be happy to keep him. he has played many positions, middle, left, right, we can even put him left back n dont buy a backup for Enrique when Robinson goes on loan.

people seem to want to kick every1 out, but they forget that its a squad game, we'll need more than 11 players for a full season of fa cup, league cup, europa and the league itself. and right now, i feel we're a few man short. If we're selling we have to replace.

Kaizer

I'd sell the both of them! If we could get any money back on them it would be a big bonus! Two of them not good enough! In Rafa we trust!

27 Jun 2012 16:03:20
Anybody else find it funny that when we first heard about Sigurdsson as first signing, everyone started stating we are mid-table club with no aspirations. Now there is unconfirmed interest from Spurs and suddenly Sigurdsson is the next Kaka!

27 Jun 2012 16:00:33
My opinion:

We will sign a striker who can also play wing. There are plenty of options available. I don't think it will be De Jong, as his game will not complement Carroll's hold up play, and he is too good to be a back up. I think Dempsey is actually most likely. Not a true striker, but is versatile and can score goals. Another, unproven young player will likely be added too (Costaignos?).

Midfield is where we are weakest. We need a game controlling central midfielder. I really hope we get Ramirez.

Add Sigurdsson to the above two and I will be very happy. He could slot in behind strikers, drift to wings and play midfield.

No need for defenders unless we lose one.

If I were BR, I would offload Bellamy, Adam and Downing. If Downing goes, we would need direct replacement on left wing, irrespective of the other signings. I really don't know who could replace, but there are plenty wingers out there. We may get A. Johnson, but be careful what you wish for. There is a reason he did not make it at Man City.

Also, I personally would keep Aquilani, as he would fit in well to a fluent, moving, passing team. Unfortunately, I think he misses his mommy too much.

Canada Red

I agree with some of the post but why sell bellers and keep aquilani. he is the priority. lets get rid of him now. all he did was attempt a bulls-eye pass. adam is better than him.
derryred

Definately keep Bellers for at least one more season. He was vital in some of the games last season (FA cup tie v Man City at Anfield springs to mind as one example)

hi ed, bbc football are reporting that sahin will be given to tottenham as part of the modric deal, does this mean we have a better chance of getting sigurdsson? {Ed002's Note - I really have no idea.}

Tell you what as a spurs fan i will give you an honest reply, really am fed up with some of your fans lack of intelligence claiming were a small club with no history! please read our history before posting pathetic posts, bale has signed a new contract, we always knew he was staying anyway, we do also have plenty of funds to spend as well! some of you show a lot of respect from any fan from any club, but i suppose you do get the idiots! anyway regarding sigurdsson, most of us fans dont want him! didnt set reading, shrewsbury and crewe alight? think its easy to say avb should be announced as our boss? good choice i think? and he will look to bring in moutinho and levy also wants sahin AS part of the modric deal? there could well be a slight hold up as levy is pushing his luck by asking for higuain on loan as well?
p.s the real kb, hows it going mate?

Sahin is a modric type player whilst sig plays behing the striker like a vdv role!

No one cares about spurs boy, it's a Liverpool site

Why the question marks when you were attempting to make a statement. I don't doubt spurs have money but not enough to sign Moutinho, afford his wages, Sahin's wages and Higuains. I think you are a little bit delusional there my friend.

Why are so many posts depressing crap about how someone's not looking forward to next season? Or droning on about how we should get rid of every damn player we have?!

I cannot imagine why you watch football at all if you are already dreading watching us perform! Like many have said already, there is loads of time to buy players and decent ones if we need them. There is reason to be optimistic! Have you guys slating remembered for a second how bad we had it at this club with our previous owners, yet BR is getting stick and has not even been in charge for a single F***ing game!

Some of you should go to your doctors and get diagnosed if you are this miserable about the clubs prospects. Even if you turn out to be right and we get relegated, how will you feel then and what will you say? "good i was right" or will you be even more depressed!

27 Jun 2012 15:42:33
Now that Macca says owners have big money to spend, just watch the names explode on this site!

Hope everyone keeps in mind that the term 'big money' is relative. The owners will undoubtedly be fiscally responsible, and will only invest in young talent with high likelihood of financial return. I think this is where Commoli failed them, particularly with Downing and Adam.

Im sure he said the same last summer, and look who we ended up with.

He did say the same last summer and we did spend big. The trouble is we didn't spent it very wisely

27 Jun 2012 15:42:32
Honestly, where are the Liverpool fans? Some of the things I am reading of late are absurd... Many of the views and opinions certainly do not come from the Kop or Anfield for that matter. People talking about same old same etc, if we play as well as last season with some tinkering Liverpool will challenge for a top four finish. Some of the football that I and many other fans who travelled home and away witnessed was fantastic, some of the best in years. FSG have plans for the club from top to bottom. People fail to realize Liverpool Football Club was rotten right down to its core! In over a year Liverpool have won silverware and reached a major final, not bad progress from what I see. Yes, the league table doesn't lie, but neither does the football. If Liverpool invests in a natural finisher/poacher this summer we will be decent enough to go for a top four finish. Add a couple more young and talented squad players we will be a very strong team.

As Rodgers has said:

"I want to use the incredible support to make coming to Anfield the longest 90 minutes of an opponent's life."

Rodgers has said many more things since his short time and all have been spot on. People saying he will last 3 months etc, sort yourself out and support the man and the team. He is a forward think man and has most probably forgotten more than we know about football. I will take bets from anyone who believes he will be gone inside 3 months. The money will help towards a new kitchen!

Sorry to the supporters on here who are clued up regarding football and Liverpool some have great opinions and there is enough on here for me to keep coming back. Eds also keep up the good work and sorry about the rant, not something I would usually do.

James Mc

So do you think we should get rid of Carroll?

Of course not, he has the potential to be a quality striker. One extra striker does not mean you have to bomb another. A finisher/poacher is on the other end of the spectrum to Carroll. Carroll is an aggressive, powerful, direct striker, who on his day would cause any defence problems. Carroll came to Liverpool with problems on the field in terms of injuries and fitness and also off the the field problems. Both seem to be sorted, as the back end of the season plus Euros he looked in top condition physically and mentally. I can only see good things coming from Carroll in the future with the right guidance.

James Mc

Couldn't agree more. It makes me wonder how short people's memories are. Can they only remember are sluggish finish? Last year we witnessed some fantastic football, and played teams off the park only to be incredible unlucky or wasteful in front of goal. More confidence in the likes of downing, Carroll and hendo and 3 or 4 quality signings and I fully believe we won't be far off the top. Let's not forget a fully fit Lucas will be back. CQ {Ed002's Note - Short people's memories are as good as anyone elses.}

Most top teams have 4 strkers..
So 1 or 2 more wont hurt.:0)

Phooey

You're wrong ed, short people don't count.

Just joking, I'm not a shortist.

Most pathetic rumour I've ever read on this site great work by the eds tho posting it....well it made me laugh anyway :-)

27 Jun 2012 15:33:21
ive watched lfc for years now.if only the good times would come back, history is history we can only go foward from now on.most of us supporters want top quality signings and are woundering why we are not getting them or even other teams getting the al a cart players.well as i beleive that its all about champions league if your not in it you can for get the likes of calvarni, and other top quality players, it just wont happen. so we build a team and hopefully get 4th or better and then we can start talking about these players as they will be intrested,i agree with the eds that we will get gylfi and may be a few other players but we need time to build.if rogers is as good as he says on the style of play he wants us to play then the future is bright.

I don't want any English players, just Spanish or South American

I dont want any average players, just excellent and exceptional

Hi eds. First time poster and all that. Is it fair to say nobody really knows who we are getting or what we are looking to spend on players. Macca suggests we are going to spend however eds think we cannot attract top quality players. Mu conclusion is let's see what our first signing will be and make judgements then...

I don't think John Henry or The "Don" Rodger's know's who we're going for!

27 Jun 2012 15:12:22
Not a rumour, but as the rumours page probably gets the most traffic, could you post it there please Ed.

Anyway, i was thinking as a fun of both the club and the Eds, regarding all the hate you are getting would you consider a shutdown on all activity on the page for a day or two?

Now before people accuse me of not being a fan, I'm a massive fan, i post on the site almost every week. But I'm sick and tired of the negativity, but worse the abuse that the eds and macca get. It's boring, ridiculous and i honestly think we are lucky that there is still a liverpool rumours page. I think it might be worth a few days of no updated posts just to remind the haters out there who is in control.

{Ed002's Note - We want to avoid punishing the fans and posters for the behaviour of the abusers. They might be Liverpool fans but will not be bothered at all that they are hurting other Liverpool fans.}

Fair does Ed, thanks for the response and for not punishing us 'good' supporters. It was just a suggestion anyway. {Ed002's Note - I appreciate the thought. Thanks.}

We need to offload some of the dross in Henderson, Downing, Carroll and Adam before we bring in new faces for this season otherwise we will be watching the same old, same old.

Jarvis allen pilkington and moses would alleviate our problems

Same old same old? If you went to a game last season you would know we played some fantastic football! Liverpool only need a couple of adjustments to freshen things up. Do not expect whole sale changes! Carroll & Henderson will stand out next season.

Same person?

27 Jun 2012 14:26:24
I am not really looking forward to the new season. The reason being we will still be watching the same Downing, Adam, Henderson, Carroll ¦ etc. We must get rid of these "average" players and bring in some real exciting talent.

------------------------------------

1. Adam

He started well, but Lucas got injured, we all know what happened from Dec 2011 onwards..

Verdict - One more season to prove himself.

2. Henderson

Got bags of potential. Technique, energy, adaptable.

Verdict - He will surprise many...Not just a good trainer, hold me to that!

3. Downing

Hmmm, not sure what to say really...Unlucky season? :-/

Verdict - Same as Adam.

4. Carroll

Big Andy! I posted last year re Andy and I stand by that sentiment.

Verdict - Monster...

Trend?(my verdict) Yes, stay loyal and support the players ffs..

Lee YNWA

Quite agree. Get rid of these and get what cash we can for them.

Carroll n henderson can easyly be a good squad players, actually they are, with the euro experience, maturity n hardwork they can be stars for sure.
look no team has 11 messis or 11 gerrards playing , there are players like hendo, carroll in every team. and they have talent, we cant just through every player we sign , after 1st year just coz poor start.

I'm pretty sure the "same old same old" was very entertaining up until the Arsenal result.. i was at Anfield V Man Utd, Chelsea, Man Cityx2 Arsenal... we battered them all, just couldn't score (except the chavs) so all i think we need is a creator and a finisher and we will finish top 4 and im willing to put my money were my mouth is...

G BOX

Henderson is not good enough - just ask any Sunderland fan and they will tell you that. They cant believe we paid the huge amount of money for him. And to pay 35m for Carroll - well!! Then 20m for Downing ¦¦¦ then theres Adam. Quite agree with original post - we dont want these players!

Now i know the last poster is talking nonsense half my family live in sunderland and every 1 of them i spoke to said henderson was a good player and in a few years that 20 million would seem like a bargain so i dont know which sunderland fans you have been speaking too

Well then what is wrong with pacheco, he also isn't a good trainer which is ALL that is wrong with him. and seriously we as a club need to stop letting our youth slip away because "he's not a good trainer", if they were given then chances they CLEARLY DESERVE then it wouldn't be an issue. {Ed042's Note - let's just see what BR does}

27 Jun 2012 14:33:10
If Sigurdsson wanna sign for Spuds for money and not glory, let him be.I won't be gutted or whatever.BR should look at player like Hamsik,Javi Martinez instead.

YNWA - Geist

They'd never join us im affraid.

Glory?

Disney!

Guys I am a Liverpool fan but i will say Spur have the chance or maybe bit more that us depending if the get ABV of Glory.

We can try and bid. To keep pace with others we need to get higher calibre players rather than mediocre ones.

I am not really looking forward to the new season. The reason being we will still be watching the same Downing, Adam, Henderson, Carroll … etc. We must get rid of these "average" players and bring in some real exciting talent.

Mate i just cant believe you said Carroll because over the last 4 to 5 months he has shown most people hes a really talented lad and if he gets the right surface he will score goals,i for 1 think hes going to have a really good season for liverpool this year...Henderson is still a young lad and might turn out to be a really good player in a season or 2...You might have a case for Downing and Adam but you should give them at least until january to prove themselves...my prediction for you this season 4th or 5th. Blue

Well said. I agree.

Dont watch then! Gauranga almighty some of you are depressing!

Very well said blue. Its just sad tho mate that fans of other clubs can see the real Carroll as a good player yet our own fans cant, thanks for the positive post and hope for a good season {not to good tho lol }. Lee

To the original poster...

every team has its share of avg players, no team plays with 11 messis or 11 gerrards .

n both hendo n carroll were miss handled by KK. 21 yr guys with never played at club like liverpool, coming in in a tough situation, pressure situation..were not given proper time to adept n many times situation was worse (pairing with spearing in the midfield , against the likes of chevesky is never easy on any henderson,).

BR. can utilize both downing n hendo much better. AND ABT CARROLL, the guy is a beast n shows some iron to fight it out n beat the odds. ANDY CARROLL is a must keep....

Lot of complaining on here, can we not wait a month before the burning sticks come out? BR appointment was hush hush, so maybe Liverpool unlike the other clubs choose not to tell the media about transfers? Just speculating obviously, but a more likely story than cavani to lfc eh?!?

I for one wish that instead of having countless number of CMs we had more STs.

United have Rooney, Hernandez, Berbatov and Welbeck (Owen was also a backup)

Chelski have/had Drogba,Torres,Mata,Sturridge and Kalou (Lukaku as a backup)

City have Augero, Tevez, Dzecko, Ballotelli also have Adebayor on loan

Arsenal have, Podolski, Van persie, Gervinhio, Oxlade Chamberlin and Walcott

Getting to the point of the story, All the above (Champions League teams) Have lots of strinking options who are all capable of scoring

Liverpool have Carroll upfront who was poor last season, however thankfully he seems to be showing his abilitys. Bellamy who is only able to play once a week due to bad legs and is also on the wrong side of 30, Suarez (IMO) is more of a creating player similar to David Silva.

Long story short, Please Liverpool focus some energy into 2 strikers 1 out and out Poacher and 1 who can also be used as a wide man.

Please sort it out.

LTP THE RED

You forget Arsenal - Giroud

The gunners have official 3 strikers. The money bags in blue have 2 strikers. The most of the strikers you named were something called "wingers".

Some people here have seemed to forgot a big point. Just thought I remind everyone:

My inside source told me there's actually 2 months and 1 week left before transfer deadline.

Well said mate

BREAKING NEWS!
I have a mate inside the club who is saying that all the sigurdson talk is just a smoke screen and that we are really after Osman from everton, great player but a bit unreliable at times what you think? should be for around 9mil but i think hes a top player!
Red Rogers

Worst banter of the year!!

Thankfully thats not true

Lol that is all I will say

27 Jun 2012 14:04:47
Keeping my fingers crossed for Gaston Ramirez. Imo if we fail to make a last ditched move to sign sigurdsson, it means BR may have stepped up interest in Ramirez. In a couple of years Sigurdsson wll be a very good player, but Ramirez is gonna be world class.
Indian Buzzer

I hope we try to sign Ramirez first and the sig as back up rather than the other way round, martinez is real quality!

Seriously we should just slap some money on the table and get done with it like arsenal have done.

£16m for Gaston Ramirez, 21, AM/SS
£7m for Milos Krasic, 27, RW
£12m for Ryad Boudebouz, 22, RM/RW/AM
£15m for Ever Banega, 23 (say 24), DM/CM
£5.5m for Luc Castaignos, 19, CF/SS/
£7.5m for Dejan Lovren, 22, CBR-L/FBR'L
all would cost around £63m

Selling
Spearing £2m
Adam £4m
Aquilani £3m
Pacheco £1.5m
Skrtel £18m
Selling for For around £28.5m

Total summer spending after sales £34.5m

EVERY LIVERPOOL SUPPORTER WOULD LOVE BR IF HE DONE THAT.

you have Gaston Ramirez, if everyone is moaning about us not getting gylfi then they must not know about him.

Then krasic we haven't had a sure RW id YEARS the last one we tried was Pennant. skill, pace, ATTACK first pass later.

Then Boudebouz, he plays as RM in a 433 or as a RW in a 442 or more central as a AM. he likes the ball at his feet and attacks like gerrard (making runs from deep), very much a versatile player

Banega he has it all, passing, tackling, Reads a games well. I'd have him replace alonso's intended replacement Aquilani as well as Aquilani's & Meireles' intended replacement Adam. (with someone like Coady or Biao replacing Spearing). He'd be the best partner for Lucas if Gerrard were injured and the best partner for Gerrard if Lucas were injured is what basically I'm getting at.

Lovren another 22 year old promising CB, just like agger and skrtel when they came and for around the same price as them with the same potential as they had. with one difference (more experience in higher league)

Luc Castaignos promising kinda like ngog in a way but with more to him. if he could do similar things to what ngog did then that is all we need atm striker wise do your job and get 8 goals a season until he starts to grow both as a player and physically (although he is rather physical in his playing style - the reason he went to Serie A).

27 Jun 2012 14:00:57
i love when the club signs garbage players and we play terribly having wasted massive sums of money when other clubs are spending more wisely because i enjoy having a moan and listening to others moan on phone ins etc. but it's boring when you're winning 2-0 every week and everything's going smoothly

I dont think you really know what you are talking about.

So you love the team you support to struggle ur sick in the head.

27 Jun 2012 13:56:14
Dry your eyes mate, there's plenty more fish in the sea:

Y. El Ghanassy
Eduardo Silva
Ola John
Krasic
Muniain
Ramirez
Honda
Doumbia
Mitias Suarez
Luuk De Jong
Rondon
Hugo Rodallega!

LFC might not have shown any interest in these guys yet but that does not mean they won't in the very near future.

Save your panic attacks for deadline day.

Cheers JY

Well I suppose we can all look at the fantastic list of players cos theres no way they will end up at Liverpool.

Hugo Rodallega, well i suppose there is always some garbage going to be caught in any nets cast in the sea?

Heya Eds, posted a while back with somethign on Skrtel, now with all the Lescott stuff being bandied about, are people forgetting that he used to be a Toffee? Do people not remember the hostility when we signed Barmby, or the famous Houllier quote from the time "Are we talking about a change on religion or a change in football teams?" I know that this might not mean anything to anyone, but can people please keep calm and think logically before mithering the Eds about every rumour that John from the local has heard. The Eds aren't supermen. Just wanna say Eds, I love the site, you do an absolute top job. I just think it would be courtesy from some people to think before they jump down your throats. If you know anything new on Skrtel please feel free to stick a note in.

Many Thanks Again Eds

Tom

27 Jun 2012 13:38:06
Knowing City's interest in Skrtel, BR is looking to do a deal worth around 25mil, (5mil more than City have valued him). However he is looking to do a swap for both A.Johnson and J.Lescott (15m and 10m respectivley - J.L. price being low as he is 30 in August). This will give Coates a couple more years before becoming 1st choice defender. If BR doesnt get at least one of the 2 players, he wont be cutting a deal for Skrtel with City.

Jambon

Isn't Lescott left sided like Agger, if so a swap for Skrtel wont' make any sense.

I don't know how you workout Lescotts valuation is 10m City bought him for 24m and he as improved since then, so no way will they take a 14m hit on him when, and anyway Lescotts a left sided defender, so wouldn't make sense swapping him for Skirtle.

I give Rodgers 3 months after the season starts then he will be sacked. Fsg i give 3 years then they will find out they can't afford the club and sell it to the highest bidder. Hopefully owners who can afford 8 million for a player

Oh grow up!
Its not the fee thats causing the issue, BR and FSG are not going to pay a young lad nearly £70k a year, who's had one good half season in the PL. They have offered what they see he is worth.

Their trying to run the club sensibly not put us back in debt.
SA

You give Rodgers as much as 3 months, I would not even give him that. Wrong choice.

You sound like one of them fans buck mentioned . could you` remember were we where when the owners took over what about given buck a chance he is trying his best for the club i can guarantee. all this get rid of the manager has to stop this has to be a long term plan.Tommy Irish Red.

Such miserable and negative people.
Do us all a favour and go and support another team.
You are an embarassment!.

You guys are simply crazy. BR will not go anywhere in 3 months and i would go as far as to say even if we lost far more than we won he wont be going anywhere for a year at least. I may be wrong but do believe BR is here to stay and can well see him being our manager for the next 10 years, i really do. He look and feels right to me as manager (no i do not fancy him!) but the style of play he wants to adopt will take time. I hope, but am not overly hopeful that we will will make top 4, and if we do i think he has done WONDERS!

gareth

Don't tell me "Bring back Rafa" {Ed002's Note - Sampdoria bound.}

Why don't you gutless posters sign your name then so come January i can find you...

G BOX

Too many people on here don't leave their names, chickens the lot of them, and as far as FSG are concerned they can afford this club with their spare change, In case you forgot, they own the Red Sox, one of the biggest baseball franchises in the world.

Hi eds....

do u expect the club to spend wise this window and to a degree gamble on players who are under achieving.

Also do u have an opinion on vela and dos santos, I only ask as they fit the above thinking play in a 3 man front for mexico were they look dangerous and I also feel if the played either side of suarez it could be a scary combo.

Thanks for taking time to read. Lee {Ed002's Note - I rather think the route forward would be "wise". Dos Santos would certainly be a risk.}

He said he has friends here at the club (I'm guessing Lucas) and in the future could be interested in a move to the Premiership.

He didn't say he wanted to move to Liverpool

RedSG

His injury record is not good. he will need to be fit for atleast 1 or 2 seasons than his name would come up again. dont think many clubs would wanna take a risk on him, wont be cheap, high wages probably? idk.

With all the rumours circulating about new players being bought in where are the outgoings surely there has to be something put out there.
The squad size is limited and Kuyt is the only outgoing with Cole and Aqua in coming what are they doing?

27 Jun 2012 12:48:46
Ed 002 with all due respect, Vargas has scored 4 goals in his last 50 games which is good but not particularly amazing. His assist record however is with 12 in the last 50 games (1 every 3 games). {Ed002's Note - I think he averages about one goal in ten throughout his career much of which has been at left back. If that is not good enough for Liverpool that is just fine by me.}

27 Jun 2012 13:35:35
Have any other supporters clubs confirmed the loss of their ticket allocations? What does the club have to say about this?

I LOVE LFC is a way of life and our sucess in the past is through part skill but a massive unity in the club from top to bottom BR will install and inforce that way of thinking!
I,ve never seen so much negitivity from the so called best fans in the world the 12th man is on and off the pitch and supporting and being part of this club as a fan is an honour!

Im excited even before we add anyone to the team the wealth of young talent coming through the youth set up is amazing.

Keep the faith, be positive and get behind our team!

AndyLFC

Have to say i agree if our current players play a bit better and we dont get funkd with injury we should do well p.s if gylfi snubs this great club for spurs he to silly to play for us class is permanent form is only that bring on next season

27 Jun 2012 13:34:29
dont really see why we need all these cm when we got gerrad lucas adam henderson shelvy and cole an even the wost player spearing and buying sigguardsson and ramirez

What's happening bell... Looking forward to your tactics of goalkeeper 9 defenders and a ladyboy upfront next year...

Not that good but we're working on it. How are you enjoying having a squad filled with trophy stealing hangers on that contribute nothing on a cup run and then hog the trophy celebrating as if they'd scored the winner themselves?

All right der sted ed or whatever yer name is,just a quick question cuz i know the upper class see us scousers as rather taxing and time is money, hows the new dough factory coming along mate.

5 replies instantly haha, oh i have missed you lot, going well for ya though lads i reckong with a bit of luck you could finish 6th next year :)

Di Matteo.......ha ;) Gone by xmas I promise you.

Why settle for 6th when we could nab your 5th spot at least

Di matteo aye! averaged 0.2 less points per game than AVB did in the league, let's see how long this manager gets because you will not have the god's on your side for the champions league again this year!

It must have been cringingly embaressing when the Chelsea player who wern't even in the match squad arrived on the pitch in full gear to celebrate the Champions League and get in the pictures togged out.....real class

I reckon with a bit of luck di Matteo will still be manager by Christmas.

LFC position in league over last 10 years:
2, 5, 4, 5, 3, 3, 4, 2, 7, 6
You may well say (and probably rightly) whats your point. Im not sure but while we did win great champions league final and runner up also, Yes we are a big and great club, but have frequently come behind not just Man Utd but also Arsenal and Chelsea etc. So please stop posting crap about how we use to sign Messi type players! We did buy some great players but they did not all cost the earth or start out as World Beaters. Gerrard for one was unknown to the world outside LFC before he started gracing the pitch.
Please get behind the club and wait and see what goes down and who we get

Lescott?, Adebayor? City rejects and getting old i would much rather see new unknown faces like at Newcastle!
We need to keep hold of our spine with Agger and Suarez!

Lucas will not make any difference same as Adam, Hendo (joke for us and England)
Get rid of Aqua to Gillingham!!

Any thoughts?

Ha. Going well till you said lucas wouldn't make any difference. If last season thought us anything, its that lucas make a dig friggin difference.

Got a few thoughts but you wouldn't like them! and I dont want to get banned.

How can anybody still not see Lucas' quality?

Newcastle didn't sign unknowns, just because they didn't play in the premiership it doesn't make them unknown.

KT!

My thought is that you're a muppet

Thoughts? You just said Lucas and Henderson would not make a difference. Lucas, the SPINE of our midfield and Henderson just turned 22. That Lucas comment is garbage, he is one of the most, if not, THE most important part of our midfield and one of the reasons we finished 8th this season was due to his injury.

You want my thoughts? Get lost and support Newcastle if you like them so much.

RenegadeRed

You are an idiot!( joking )

No, but seriously you have said Lucas wont make any difference. But, I think whoever watched Liverpool last season must have noticed that our whole season fell apart after he got injured. Until then, we were in a very good place to get CL qualification. You have to understand that although Lucas doesn't score goals, he does the work of two Dm and hence the team is able to put out a more attacking threat as they know that Lucas would cover their back if they give up possesion.

Ed any chance of Isco of malaga or frei from fulham coming to liverpool if we miss out on sig ?
{Ed002's Note - There is no interest being shown in these random players - so for now no.}

What's your thoughts on that Frei Ed? He is only 18 and played quite a bit for fulham allready, he didn't look out of place when I saw him but I have not seen that much since to be honest.
RNred {Ed002's Note - I know that the Fulham fans were impressed with Frei initially but concerned that all too often there was no "end product". Copenhagen and now Galatasaray are trying to lure him away.}

27 Jun 2012 12:28:09
So what is actually going on with our club? Im starting to get worried now. Rodgers needs to get his act together and get some players in.

Arsenal - Podolski, Giroud, M'Vila?
Chelsea- Marin, Hazard, Hulk?
United - Powell, Kagawa, Modric? Willems? Lewandowski?

Spurs look to have won the race for Sigurdsson, Newcastle look to have beat us to the signing of De Jong.

I dont think Brendan Rodgers will be able to attract the players that we need to get back to fighting for champions league football.

Diame chose West Ham over us, What does that say about us? Its starting to get embarrassing now.

Also, what are we gonna do if the rumours are true that Reina, Skrtel, Agger, Suarez and Johnson want to leave? Do you think they're happy with a small time manager like Rodgers coming in?

Cole and Aqualani coming back is a sign that we dont have much money to spend, Cant really blame FSG after Kenny wasted over 100m last season on Downing, Coates, Adam, Henderson and Carroll.

Not looking forward to next season at all

David YNWA

Is it me or is it Groundhog Day?

Rodgers hasn't even met the squad yet.

How can we lose out on De Jong if we never put a bid in?

Who said we was after Diame?

Them players have come out publicly and backed the appoinment of Rodgers.

Cole and Aquilani are both coming back until some one is stupid enough to buy them.

If there is anymore points you want me to correct yo on feel free to respond.

KT!

Well aren't you a ray of sunshine.

Do you think it could be that BR is evaluating the squad and wants to meet the players first before throwing money at players that might not improve things.

Just a thought.
SA

Why do you have coates on that list because he hasnt bin used much hes only a young lad and he scored that belter for us dont get me wrong you cant judge him on a goal but wat has he done wrong

If your going to put people rumoured with clubs down, why not us?

Liverpool - Ramierz Vargas (Malaga striker) Sigi Adam Johnson

Looks better now doesn't it... Have a bit of patience and wait and see, come August if we haven't signed anyone I will fully back you and other fans that we are going to struggle, but I'm sure that won't be the case

Gaston Ramirez, Gyfi Sigurdsson, James Rodrigez, and some replacements if sb from te first squad leaves...

your opinion ed.. as for me that would be the best possible transfers in this window.

cheers Luka {Ed002's Note - No chance.}

27 Jun 2012 12:06:41
Firstly, apologies as its a twitter rumour and not particularly related to Liverpool, but I read that Fulham are trying to get Aaron Ramsey on loan with a view to a future £9m transfer. Do the Eds know if Arsenal are willing to let him go? I would have thought he is exactly the kind of player Liverpool would be looking at (young, good technically etc) if he would move from London.

Also, seems that loads of names are mentioned but nobody really knows who our targets are, I suspect there will be a couple of surprises. Do Eds know if we have had any reported interest in the Jordi Clasie (spelling?) lad from Ajax, read a while ago we had. From what I have seen of him he looks an ideal partner for Lucas in the holding role.

Lastly, everyone that plays with Hendo (LFC and England lads) say he is one of the best technical players about. I expect him to play a big part under Rodgers, he just needs confidence, backing and a more central role. See Lucas 5 years ago for reference!

Cheers, Mark {Ed002's Note - There is no interest from Liverpool that we know of.}

27 Jun 2012 11:51:41
Im going to stick my neck out and say Sig will sign for us if he cares about his football carreer and not lining his pockets. We have interest in g.rameriez who is a real top quailty player, though I think the Sig deal will have a say in whether we bid for him and actually getting him is another thing. If we were to get Sig and rameriez then it would be really promising from the club and exciting times for next season
We will sign quailty players this summer, goes without saying. I said a while ago we would sign a top quaility striker and it is only a matter of time. Rondon, there is real interest'Have faith becuase I believe we will rapidly improve next season,in our style of play, results and league position'

Melbourne'

If he cares about his football he'll go to Spurs, they played some beautiful football last season and finished 4th, better than you lot on both counts.

I wish people would stop saying if Sig turns us down its for money, dont be silly, Spurs have been going for champions league spots on a regular basis, Have more money to spend than us for players, Bigger and better squad, Maybe sig thinks moving to spurs is better for his career

Surely if were ambitious enough to want top 4 again, and more-you'ld get BOTH

I'd love to know why these no marks come and leave a negative comment...?

Are their pages 'that' slow and boring..

If Sig chooses Spurs, fine. But he won't win anything at Spuds.

Lee YNWA

Spurs play good football but sacrifice their defence , it is easy to play swash buckling football as Roy evans Liverpool were one of the most entertaining teams in the last 20 years but some stupid goals conceded.Spurs can keep playing their style and as for finishing 4th see you in europa

Yes you finished 4th and yes you played good football.

But the manager that got you to that point is gone and a couple of your best players could be leaving.

I'd be more concerned about what happens with your own club, before having a go at ours.
SA

Ye but the sun even shines on a dogs apse sometimes alot of spurs players are gonna want out by the end of next season haha keep waffling

If i was in sis position i would choose Spurs too for footballing reason i.e more ambitious club, better players, soon a better and proven manager that has won stuff and of course the chance to live in London rather than Liverpool.

Hi eds is there any specific reason Adam Johnson can't get in the city team is it just he's not wanted or is it attitude.

Cheers Mike G {Ed002's Note - He is a squad player and will be used when needed.}

Because he is lazy, doesn't try enough to prove he deserves his place, and he is a big time charlie

There is no way johnson would leave a title winning side with a massive future ahead of them and take a major step down to join a side like liverpool!! better to be a part of citys future than dropping down way down and has his career nosedive by joining liverpool

Such crap id say he hasnt looked at that medal since getting it because he sat on his hole all year no player wants that except maybe solskaer for utd because he would score nearly every time he got a chance fair play all the same

Morning ed 001, i noticed in one of your replys last night that you said, reading swansea and totenham have all agreed a fee with hoffenheim, so, why are so many journos an the like so sure he would come to us, when we have not even agreed a fee(bid), its puzzled me, thanks.

rumour has it that the expected new stadium in stanley park wll go ahead. Ian Ayer expected to announce in the new few days a major sponsorship deal with Standard Charter. The deal is said to be in the region of 175 million

from having the best midfield in europe with gerrard , mascherano , alonso to getting trumped by spurs for an former swansea player , bravo !!!

We never won anything with that midfield though did we plank

I remember when we used to be a big club when every top player wanted to join us - not now.

'Used to be a big club - not now' trolls have fallen out of bed & are now sitting at their keyboards. Bravo!!

Go support another club then !!

Remember when we actually had knowledgable fans that understood the game of football. Now all it seems we have on here are pre pubescent fans that just demand success because their friends are getting to enjoy some with their oil shiekhs.

Morning,
Not banter as such, but did anyone else get their tickets through a supporters club last season? Had an e-mail from the chairman of our club (Trent Valley Supporters Club in Staffordshire), saying that we've had our ticket allocation removed, checked with LFC and apparently it's been done with all supporters clubs.

Lucas Lovechild

Worrying about obscure ex- Swansea players is one thing, but this is really important. Why have the club done this to loyal fans? What's going on? This is not the work of thoughtful owners unless they have a good stated reason. This should be out to the club without delay.

by signing jay rodriguez for 7m southampton have got a better deal than us if we sign james rodriguez for 20m

I think you'll find that it's Jese Rodriguez (Real Madrid) that we're linked with. {Ed002's Note - He is likely heading for Benfica.}

I think some fans just want us to sign anyone just for the sake of signing someone. The transfer window hasn't even officially opened properly and yet we are being slated for missing out on targets. The players who have pre arranged to join PL clubs.. hazard, kagawa, podolski, girous etc were never ever realisticly going to join Liverpool. Sig hasn't even announced he's going to join spurs but Liverpool fans on here have jumped to conclusions. He could even still sign for Liverpool so before you spit your dummy out just wait for some official confirmation before jumping the gun. If he doesn't want to sign, I'm hardly going to loose any sleep. BR has had no time to assess his squad due to the euros so give the guy a chance to do that first before futher adding to the squad. It's also proved over the years that the great players who Liverpool have signed Alonso, Torres, Suarez etc were all done after July 1st and were bought with thorough precision which is only right if you are to invest big money into players. You need to get off the clubs back and wait, patience is a vertue and don't think we'll be going into next season with the same group of players because we won't! Patience.

Don't try and apply a reasonable approach to your argument. It's not popular with a lot of posters on here.

Any progress on the new directors we are supposed to be hiring?? Gone a bit quiet on that front, maybe that's part of the reason the transfer activity is a bit slow. That plus the window not even being open yet;-)

Cheers,
G.P {Ed002's Note - New directors?}

Window not open yet and the fact that we've got a new manager and he's already stated that he wants to asses the squad.
He won't be rushed into panic buying, he wants to get the right players to do the right job. There's plenty of talent out there.
People have just got to be more patient.

Club have said they will be hiring a couple of new directors to fill the role that commoli filled last season, director of sport a business director maybe a director of traffic !!??
Heard James Cameron has been approached as director of unbelievable s**t!!

We wanted Sigurdsson, he wanted too much wages... We don't want him at that cost.

It's simple! I'm quite glad the owners won't pay over inflated contracts just to get a player. There's plenty more fish in the sea so let's all move on.

The Robin

Yet we pay Andy Pandy 80k a week! (God knows how much Downing, Henderson and Adams wages add up to)

That is simply a lie. We certainly do not pay Andy 80k a week, i remember ed saying it was about 50 or 60 k a week. Mate dont just make things up.

Hey ed's!
1. Is their any truth to the 15m bid for ramirez! Personally I would love him in lfc shirt! Better than sig by far!
2. The adebayor rumours are made up but what amount of money do u think will it cost to lure him away from city?

Really hope we spent money on those tipe of players rather than johnsen or sturridge!

Brazil striker Alexandre Pato, 22, fancies a transfer to the Premier League when his AC Milan contract expires in 2014.

This could be quiet interesting, I know im way off the mark here but imagine if we do, do well and end up in top 4 next season, personally i cant see it but its nice to think we may.. we'd be going for players like this no doubt?

He's rubbish, very over rated.

Eds quick question i read somewhere before Rodgers was appointed as manager that he has great connections within Spain which is knowing but also that he was invited along to the euros by the Spanish national team with the spanish camp i dont know weather it was for the whole tournament or to observe a few training sessions im just wondering have u any idea is his true? if it is than he must have a very good relationship with major players involved in Spanish football also think it shows that people who are high up really see Rodgers as a fantastic manager and football mind? Cheers

He hardly set the world on fire at these little teams did he.
Do we really need him or want him,is he good enough for us? Not for me.
Let him go to Spuds

Shut up, mate...

I wonder if a 'bidding war' was instigated for Gylfi 's signature, between Spurs and LFC which ended with LFC winning with a superior bid, would the people complaining about 'letting targets get away' then revert back to 'why do we pay over the odds?' Just a thought. Maybe LFC don't think he is worth the money that Spurs are prepared to pay. I hope LFC are sticking to their guns we have been held for ransom in the past far too many times.
Davey Liver

Well said mate a very common theme for all the negativity last season was the amount we paid for players and the value everyone else got, now people are moaning that were not matching spurs bid can't we all just get behind the team the new manager and owners and see what happens?

I agree; it's unbelivable some things being said (not just on here); Kenny wasted loads of money vs Kenny's net spend wasn't that big. Not paying the wages vs paying too much and can't offload players; not spending money on a player vs paying over the odds etc...

I really want us to sign some players and quickly however I accept that this is going to take time and we should accept that the changes in the DoF and manager means old targets may not be in the current managers plans or the way he wants his team to play football.

Also in termss of Sigg; Spurs probably know they are going to sell Modric so can offer more money - remember this is a player that wasn't playing regulary and was loaned out last season - I'm not knocking the player but why should we be held to ransom because someone had a good 6 months.

I trust the Manager and the Owners to get this right; time will tell if they do but lets at least give them a chance to do it their way first.

sorry to ask another Siguardsson question to add to list, but would you know ED's if he has asked for a 70k wage? I have heard this rumoured and thought id ask in case you had any confirmation of this

IF Siggurdsson decides to join another club I think it would work out well for Liverpool. I'm not saying he's not a good player and would not improve our team but I am always nervous when a new manager comes in and signs a player he has worked with before without seeing the squad we already have up close.

It must take a little bit of time for any manager to adjust their assessment of players from what would improve a Swansea or Fulham (no disrespect intended) to what would improve Liverpool especially when any manager watching us last season would have seen us at arguably one of our lowest points taken over the season as a whole.

If Gylfi signs, great, but I would prefer Rodgers has time to take a good look at the squad and uses his transfer funds to bring in players that will push us higher up the league and add real quality in positions where we need it.

Simon

27 Jun 2012 09:09:07
If we did get siggurdson would he play as an attacking mid just behind the strikers? If so is it much of a loss if we don't get him I mean is he much better than what we have because we didn't really play anyone in that position last season personally I think shelvey could do that job along with Pacheco and not to mention suso and I know he's young but does it matter because that kid is going to be a star. Oh and lets not forget a certain me Gerrard who can also play there now we have Lucas back

Mat lfc

What makes you think we have Lucas back ................

Hello Lucas is recovered so he must be back, think not?

Erm we have Lucas back because he's recovered from his injury that kept him out last season and when a player recovers from injury they tend to be available for selection again.

27 Jun 2012 09:08:52
ed's, would i be right in saying that only 3 clubs have agreed a fee for Sigurdsson, liverpool not being one of them, so we cant speak to him or that would be classed as 'tapping up', so really we have no chance of getting him?

cheers {Ed002's Note - No, you seem confused.}

According to the Liverpool Echo (always a reasonably reliable source of info and close to the Club) LFC is unwilling to meet Sig's wage demands (or more likely, those of his agent!!) given the more attractive offer on the table from Spurs. Spurs has made an offer to Hoffenheim and have discussed personal terms with the player's agent. Liverpool has yet to make an offer to the Club, let alone discuss personal terms. FSG does not want to repeat the errors of Cole, Babel, Poulson, Boronin etc, who were on such mega-bucks that we couldn't unload them (e.g. still paying a %age of Cole's wages). So Spurs in the driving seat, with Sig due to have a medical with them on Friday. But he has yet to decide and the fact that BR was such an influence on him at Swansea could still hold sway.
Personally, I think that if he is driven by money primarily...let him go to Spurs. Maybe someone should bring to his attention the case of Bellamy who took both a cut in wages and bought HIMSELF out of his Man City contract to join LCF.
Siggurdson is a good player who came on leaps and bounds under BR at Swansea.....but he is not that good that he can hold the Club to ransom.

Could be his agent using these Spurs rumours as leverage against LFC, i wouldn't doubt it, he is a soulless manager after all. But i'd say we're not stupid enough to buy into crap like that, i still seriously doubt Spurs' interest.

Transfer activity

Arsenal:
Giroud - 12million
Podolski - 10million

Man Utd:
Kagawa - 14million
Powell - 5million

Chelsea:
Marin - 7million
Hazard - 32million

City
Rumoured to want Skrtel for 20m?
Looking to buy Martinez another 25M or so

Liverpool :
nothing !

FSG are SOOO Rich, HMMM!

For those that slag of Chelsea and/or City and who would not like an Oligarch or a Sheik at the helm of LFC, look what chelsea has won in the last 10 years but wait I hear you say what happens when they get tired of their "TOY" well the owners we have had for the last 10 years have done little for LFC so what would that matter we just be back to where we are now and while the oil barrons were in charge we would at least enjoy the ride.

AnCo

Well there are 4 teams you have mentioned that would probably enjoy your support - easy decision for you to make - you don't like LFC - then go, or stop bleating about no money - you support your team through thick and thin.

John B

Notice that chity haven't spent yet, but in its place you wrote rumour this rumour that. Why didn't you not list all the players wer rumoured with. Grow up the window isn't even open yet

So what you are saying is that if you supported Man. City you would be worried that they were broke and not going to buy anyone either?

Just like us, they have only been "linked" with players.

Cheer up, have a nice cup of tea and relax.

Typically vile & crude assessment of how football works. Screw the money, I'm more interested in tactics, systems & individuals who wish to participate whilst wearing a red shirt. I do not wish for LFC to be a vehicle for making prima donnas rich.

How some of ye jump to conclusions that I have not wrote about is beyond me and the same conclusions are not shared by the different posters who scold me, very scary!

I guess it must be different in your inner worlds?

AnCo

How can all you so called supporter's give the original poster grief? He/she were just stating fact's! FSG need to be a lot quicker and make a statement of intent! Not dawdle about! In any business you have to speculate to accumulate! But with other top side's who'll be challenging for the CL place's showing their intent and LFC are yet to make their's it is worrying for us fan's who are fed up with our league position finish'es of the last three year's! Cup's are a bonus unless it's the European cup! The league is our bread and butter and we really need to be back up there challenging! In Rafa we trust!

Honestly I won't lose any sleep if Sigurdsson signs for spurs. The only real blow would be if an english team sign Gaston Ramirez as he is pure class. Reminds me of David Silva and Kaka. Also i would also be gutted if we lose out on Mattias Suarez. And to the multitude of fans saying we are not good enough to attract star name, have there been a time we agreed terms with the parent club and the player rejected us? No,we just assume it. I know if LFC can agree a fee with Bologna, and City were to do the same,Gaston would pick us over them for more playing time and for the Uruguayan connection at Anfield.
Pls Eds,i have been hearing rumours of Gaston's agent meeting us and city and that we bid 15m,any truth whatsoever in all this?

Heard from a reliable source that FSG realises they have alienated the fans by keeping everything behind closed doors. So expect the appointment of Mr Whelan by Friday.

Are over

And shelvey is not a DM player

True mate but he can't do it for 40-50 games anymore, can he?

No he can't unfortunately.

Let Henderson, Lucas (new DM?) clean up and Gerrard can instigate the attacks..

Siguurdson has advised that he will play for a football team next season. The said football team will be from some where on the planet and he expects to be paid money. Hoffenheim will get some money for the player from the club on the planet that buys him. This will all be revealed before he plays football again!.... There you go all cleared up ;-) Now for another rumour Roy of the Rovers dyes his hair.

There is something seriously wrong with the club if we do not get Sigurdsson. We had the absolute competitive advantage in landing Sigurdsson's signature with Rodgers at the helm. Before anybody says "ohhh but they're paying him 70K a week", look at how much we're paying Carroll and Henderson, not to mention idiots like Aquilani and Joe Cole who are being paid more than that.

Spurs do not have a manager, nor is their best striker from last season even at the club (and not to mention Modric on his way out). They cannot offer anything that we can't. We can definitely match their wage offer. They've even got one of the best wage bill's (based on performance) in the premier league. Maybe we should be looking at them for wise money spending.

I think it will be absolutely pathetic if we miss out, and it's all because of how slowly we go to finalize targets. Look at how quickly Man Utd and Chelsea moved to secure their targets.

So you must be the club accountant, or have access to the payroll of LFC and Spurs with inside knowledge of their wage bills and financial structure - if the lad wants to sign for us - Good, if not, then goodbye and move on. Who is to say he will improve on what we already have - Spurs are losing Modric, they need a replacement - we don't.

John B {Ed002's Note - It is correct that the average wage of first team players at Liverpool is more than Spurs. Only the Manchester clubs, Chelsea and Arsenal have higher average wages in England.}

Pretty sure that the reason it is quiet on the transfer front for Liverpool is that the Sigurdsson deal needs to be out of the way first. As soon as it is clear whether he is or isn't coming, we will start to see movement on transfers. If BR doesn't get Sigurdsson then he has to get someone else in his place. If he gets him the rest of the targets can start to fall into place.

And what is with all these people asking the Eds the odds of someone signing and starting rumors that someone is going just because another team is showing interest? So far this summer Reina, Suarez, Skrtel, and Agger are all in the headlines just because someone else is supposedly interested. Relax people. Most if not all of those guys are going no where.

Don't understand why we need the fella, we haven't sold anyone in his position - and the question is, is he better than what we already have in that position? If BR really wanted him, I'm pretty sure he would have convinced the paymasters to get him, otherwise why take the job in the first place if he wasn't going to get the backing from the owners.

Re: Saurez being off, I just got an email from the club site to join LFC Official Membership with a photo of Luis and a caption of "He shows he's proud to be part of LFC, so could you". Hardly a smart move by LFC if they're going to be selling him. I'd say he staying put. I upload a screen shot to dodgy sightings to show.

Eds just with the Sigurdsson situation, would i be right in saying that even if a deal with tottenham has been agreed, we still have until the end of June to sign him if the club feels hes worth it. That being the day Babbel set as a deadline for the situation.

Also with the official transfer winter opening this weekend, do you expect BR to immediately go for targets or wait until the squad reports in before any significant moves are made?

Cheers,

27 Jun 2012 00:22:15
eds, i wonder if rodgers will think of bringing in 2-3 bigger names in, some with a spark or just plain old good experience and then just replace the ones leaving with the likes of coady, sterling, suso, ngoo etc. that could work, dont you think?

Luis Suárez: A Creator, Not A Goalscorer

It's safe to say that Luis Suárez certainly had an 'interesting' 2011/12 season. After starting it by becoming a Copa America champion, as the domestic season unfolded he saw controversy follow him around, as it has continued to since his goal-line handball in the quarter-final of the World Cup in 2010.

As well as the heavily debated 'Evragate' and subsequent ban, he also received a further one game ban for giving the Fulham fans at Craven Cottage an unsuitable hand gesture (to put it as politely as I can).

One thing he didn't do though, and that he was expected to, was score a bagful of goals. (GOOOALLL)

Eleven strikes in the Premier League, scoring in just nine matches, put him joint fourteenth for goals scored and saw him finish behind far less heralded frontmen, such as Grant Holt and Danny Graham. On the other hand, he did create a lot of chances, and this is where I think Liverpool can reap greater benefit from the Uruguayan next season.

from the whoscored.com table of how many chances Suárez created in each of his league starts in 2011/12. Bear in mind that the top chance creator in the league (Juán Mata) averaged exactly three per game, according to whoscored.com, so that seems a reasonable target for a decent performance in chance creation terms.

In thirteen appearances out of a total of twenty-nine (or 45% of the time, in other words), Suárez matched or bettered the average for the top creator in the Premier League. It's interesting to note that two of the five games where Suárez failed to create a chance were against Swansea City, so it would appear that Brendan Rodgers already knows how to nullify the threat posed by the Uruguayan at least.

However, I think that Rodgers could exploit Suárez' skillset superbly. The Ulsterman favours a high pressing game, and Luis made thirty-one final third regains last season; more than any other player in the Premier League, and at least nineteen more than every other Liverpool player. The statistics show that Suárez is the top player in England for pressing high up the pitch, so Rodgers must be licking his lips in anticipation at working with him.

If the new manager plays Suárez in the centre of a front three?, then I think he can become the Reds' key player who should also get into double figures for goals too. This won't eradicate Liverpool's need for a prolific striker, but it should mean they make better use of the one world-class forward they currently possess, and that will be one step in the right direction for 2012/13.

So what are liverpool lacking? Goals. People to turn Suarez chances into goals.

Why are liverpool wasting money purchasing Sigurdson when they have a better option within their own team? Is he a replacement for Suarez who could be off to a number of top clubs this summer.

Would I personally purchase a bitpart player with what little money lfc do have? maybe it depends if sigurdson can make the same ghosting runs into the box as Raul Meireles it when lfc where firing on all 4's. Those ghosting runs at angles would give other players space to attack and make it difficult for defenders to mark Raul Meireles. Looking at Meireles as a chelsea man you'll think their is nothing much to the player and the fans would be right because they fail to use him in his best position. Raul Meireles is a player who should be aloud to do as he likes in a fluid formation supporting the striker.

Back to Sigurdson, is he a good player? Only Brandon Rogers would know considering he has worked with the lad. Will he workout at liverpool? maybe or maybe not. sigurdson, Gerrard and Suerzes could all stand upfront doing nothing for the team. We just don't know how good sigurdson is and that is why liverpool have given him such a weak contract and paid a market value they seem comfortable with.

Does Rogers really need another AM man in Sigurdson well I don't think so.

I agree mate. Meireles never got the credit he deserved. Just bcoz he he pulled out of challenges does not make him a bad player. He wud have been very effective up front with suarez. He is an attacking midfielder, not a defensive one. How many times have we seen kaka or ronaldo put in tackles. Tbh not very often. Whatever everyone thinks about meireles, imo he is a much better player than adam. Its not always about working hard, its about playing smart.

It's amazing when people say they want talented playmakers and goalscorers, but criticise somebody for pulling out of challenges. It's no coincidence that not many players have both of these "qualities". It's one or the other, a warrior, or a footballer. Choose!

Gerrard is both.

That is all.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if BR and FSG waited until Sigurdsson had a prominent team bid for his signature before moving for him because BR was so worried about offending Swansea fans. I personally think he has been really respectful to his old club, and I have a lot of respect for him. We'll see what happens, but I'm still confident of Sigurdsson signing.

Thanks!

Suarez is off and will be replaced by Huntelaar.

You are replacing Cavair with Pollock.....GET A GRIP!!!!!!

Man utd wouldn't get him because of the amounts he wants in wages. So why would liverpool

Why would we want him. He is a an awful player.

We already have a target man. What we need is a quick footed goal poacher.

Firstly thanks to Macca for putting people at ease and the Ed's for their patience when asked the same question over and over!
There has been alot of tantrums going off on this page recently. It's early day's BR has only had the job five minutes. He needs to evaluate the players, figure the weekness and look at what youth players can step up and what first team players will fit in to his way. Remember last season we didnt exactly play crap football, we we very unlucky and we just needed the cutting edge up front. Carrol and Stevie were not fit for half the season and Suarez banned, Lucas out, Johnson and Agger were also unfit.
The foundations are in place, a good number of youth players can step up this year including Sterling, Robinson and Suso but we can not pin our hopes on them just yet, but they will strengthen our squad. We dont need to go crazy and buy 5 or 6 players that had a good euro's. Maybe 1 or 2 marquee player's would be nice ( Mans gotta dream), but we have to build a team for the future so we can put all these glory hunting Chelsea Citeth and Man Utd fans back to there hiding holes!
I know we all want the big players but think back to the glory days, yeh we bought players but they had to fit to the Liverpool way. Nobody is ever bigger than the club look at KK as an example he knew it was about letting the club go forward.Far too long we have been stepping backwards because of big time charlie's that sign for us and don't play for the shirt. This time let things settle, i'm a fan of 35 years and it pains me to have not won the league in 20 of them years. Be patient Red Men all will be sorted by the beginning of the season. We will prevail !!YNWA

The Iceland international has yet to agree personal terms, and that has left an opening for new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers to exploit. Spurs are strong favourites in the chase because of their spending power on wages, but Liverpool have one other weapon in their armoury.

The German club's manager is former Reds favourite Marcus Babbel, and he would be happy to see his striker switch to Anfield.

But to make that happen Liverpool will have to match the £8million asking price, and move closer to Sigurdsson's wage demands.

Just one flaw in the logic of this , the spuds trail lfc by a long way in terms of salary bill and average wages?

ive just seen the sly news part of the SIG circus , all its said realy is that spurs themselves have said they are confident of signing SIGGY , so its not news just a made up story because no club would come out and say these things , as they would look very foolish , after hearing the report myself i think SIGGY will come to us , thats if he is realy wanted , keep the faith with the club they know what they are doing ,,,,,,,,mickey b

They always say that, every network. If you don't actually witness the words coming from the mouth of a club representative, it's just a lie. Otherwise they'd simply show the interview they claim to have held.

even though i want sig at liverpool, it is good to see we are sticking with the price we value players at, no way was carroll or henderson worth what we paid for them. so im glad rodgers is standing firm. do you think its a good thing or bad?

Downing is worth about 5 or 6 million a swell

Hi Ed's congrats with a great site.
What happened with the interest in Haavard Nordtveit!? Is there still any interest in him after kenny left? Another player i would have love to see in LFC shirt is Tom Huddelstone, any interest in him? What about Gaston Ramirez are we in on the race to sign him and is it true liverpool considering signing Owen?

PLease post this {Ed005's Note - We're not considering Owen at all, thankfully. There is interest in Ramirez but a bid is yet to be made, nothing on Huddlestone mate or Nordveit (sp)}

Good God!

No Huddlestone and no Owen!

All of you getting a rock on over Gylfi. A low class player. Just to think 6/7 years ago you had a really good team. Now you all looking forward to hendo and Gylfi linking up. Haha.

26 Jun 2012 23:42:53
i know agger is a great defender but i would sell him if the right money came in , has good as he is he is no good on the treatment table is he , and skertal wants to remember when he was not playing well that we showed both ambition and loyalty , its just a pity he cant or wont do the same , in my opinion i think seb coates would be better than skertal if he was given half the time skertal has taken to have a good season .

anyway its only 5 days till the transfer window opens then god help the poor eds who do a fantastic job with this site , BR has said he is going to keep his cards close to his chest with transfers , so we will have to wait untill we actually sign someone , we might just get plesently supprised by him and his new buys ,,,,,,,,,,,,mickey b

Why do we carried away with ourselves when we show interest in a player, then once we realise they aren't Messi, slag them off on here ?

Some person on here claims that Siggurdsson is better technically than Gerrard. He has probably only seen siggurdsson on youtube.

Liverpool fans are respected world wide for their football knowledge and understanding of the game, they have obviously never been on this site.

Rant over ! (Ed002 - Great job)

Brendan rodger always has been confident of securing the siggurdsson deal. I expect we have improved our offer and Siggursson will make his decision in the next few days.
In my opinion it will be Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers is the key part of the deal. They have a good relationship and Liverpool can offer him game time. Also i believe the uncertainty of who will be managing spurs will put him off signing for them.
Believe me all Liverpool fans. Gylfi will be our first signing of the seasonand hopefully a very good one.

I still firmly believe that Spurs have zero interest anyway, there is just no evidence.

26 Jun 2012 23:31:23
I have noticed some fans have voiced their concern over a lack of activity within the transfer market. However, the amount of time it took to appoint the Manager was the obvious hurdle.

Liverpool appointed Rodgers, not to just simply manage a group of players (Dalglish did that plus a trophy, not a bad position to leave a club in) but to play a style of football that is unique to the club. Now we have our man in charge and the owners too, we appear to be in a very healthy and more importantly STABLE position. We are obviously in talks with players and their respective clubs. Hazard, Podolski and Kagawa were not and are not the only players available on the transfer market. We have PLENTY of money to spend. It will be spent wisely. And carefully. There will be no hiccups. There will be no excuses.

My message to Liverpool fans is that everything is in place for success at Anfield. All we require is patience. A little bit of patience will go a long, long way to seeing us compete right at the very highest level. That is ABSOLUTELY certain. It took Man City 3 yrs and 2 managers to finally win the premier league with their infamous oil-rich owners, and in their first season in charge they did not manage to qualify for the champions league. Sound familiar? Liverpool have gone through 3 managers in 18 months, however, in that time we have won a trophy, secured HUGE deals in the marketing department (warrior, standard chartered etc) and made some pretty nifty signings in Suarez, Carroll and Henderson who I think will go on to become brilliant.

We have gone 20+ yrs without a league title. Man Utd wemt through a similar phase before Fergie and in his first season in charge there he was lucky to stay in his job! They were nearly relegated however he won the FA Cup.

These stories are all identical in one way or another and Liverpools rise to glory is being written as we speak. Believe in Brendan Rodgers. Believe in the owners. Liverpool are still the most successful club in England and now we have the same stability as all the other top teams in the world. Success is around the corner.......

Believe.....

Thanks

Kam

Steady the ship before you can sail.

Great post i hope it comes true we deserve the glory days back!!!!!

A really think sigurdsson will sign for us. The very fact he went on loan to a newly promoted team to get playing time and then form a good working relationship with rodgers means he is all about playing and enjoying his football not money. spurs can't offer anything we can't and if macca is correct and we do have some money to spend am sure BR has hinted to sigurdsson that there will be class players arriving to get us back in the top 4. On other sites it's went quiet on krasic eds is there any news on him think he'd be a great addition n am sure he's only 27 which means we could get at least 3/4 good seasons out him. I'm from Scotland and keep hearing rumours about wanyama, very strong and steady player at only 20/21. Could easily help us out in holding mid when Lucas is rested. it's all about a squad remember not 1 or 2 superstars! Cheers as usual to the eds and macca for sharing ur info

This sigurdsson issue, just like every1 else on here I don't kno if he'll sign for us or spurs but I've not really heard anything that makes me believe he won't sign for LFC. I believe he has had a financially superior offer from spurs, but wouldn't/shouldn't an agent try to get the best of both worlds for "their player". The news has spread like wildfire thru media SPECULATION... Clearly trying to prompt Liverpool to show their faith in sigurdsson by atleast matching spurs. If we want to sign him, we will match it... Well played the agent. Ultimately it'll be down to the player... All this propeaganda is deliberate... Remember when Kuyt joined us...The media pressed exactly the same noise. Apparently he was on the verge of signing for his preferred choice Newcastle. After he signed, he explained there was never any doubt, he was always gonba sign for LFC. I believe he will still sign for Liverpool... Just wanted to make the point to appease the fears of those genuinely concerned...

I know who he'll be signing for. It's between two clubs, as it always has been.

Oh, and neither of them are a london club!

Red7.

And you're not telling us because............? or maybe you don't know at all?

I'd have thought it was pretty obvious, one he played for last season, and one is us.

why do people complain about the emphasis on winning in kids football. obviously teaching them to play good football with plenty of passing and skill is important but what's wrong with walking off the pitch with a 5-0 win under your belts, or a trophy to lift after a good season of playing better football than everyone else

Performances are more important than results. Sorry mate, i have to disagree, to an extent anyway.

Parking the bus and longball football are a direct result of the results driven game, teams fear losing more than they enjoy winning which naturally leads to a "win at all costs" attitude at way too young an age. We see it with so many teams these days, particularly in England. Young kids come to grade and are absolutely petrified of expressing themselves because they've had it driven into them that it doesn't matter what happens, just DON'T LOSE! I know these examples come up all the time, but the Dutch, Spanish etc. Youth setups are all small sided, possession based, performance based matches. When they reach a certain age everything happens on a full sized pitch, but is purely performance based. It's better to breed footballers rather than warriors in my view.

Obviously winning becomes a priority at some stage in their careers, but as we all know, balance is important in anything in life. It's not so much about "all flash and no substance" vs "all win and no expression". It requires a balanced approach, but in my view, at the end of their youth development, players should be able to express themselves.

To add, surely if a team performs well, they'll win more than they lose.

Red7.

That tweet is from Sigurdsson himself. John Fogarty (no idea who he is) seems to think that LFC have given him a take it or leave it offer and that Rodgers will not overpay for him.

Hi Ed, can I ask you what Brandon Rogers Style of football is? Please don't point me to swansea and say that's all him. Given Freedom to do as he likes at Liverpool. What can we expect from him? Will he play the first month Ultra Defensive and hope to stay in a job. I think his odds shortened for being the next manager to get sacked when the fixture list was announced.

What formation do you think they will play? and how do you think he will play (Defensive/Attacking) .. And tick-tacki is no real answer because big changes like that can't happen overnight. first he would have to recruit midfielders that could pass the ball.

So with what he has at the club and expect no real transfers this season. What will he do with the Liverpool players he has at the moment. {Ed001's Note - if you don't want me to point to Swansea, then there is nothing I can tell you. That was his style of choice.}

Roberto Martinez installed the style of football at Swansea. Kenny Dalglish was trying to play football from back in the day (1980s) without the right players.

What do you think he will do with the current squad he has at his disposal. How did he set up the style of play at Watford/Reading/Chelsea Reserves.

What is his preferred way of playing. Removing the Swansea job from his CV. What will he do in your opinion with that current squad.

I think he will copy Kenny Dalglish tactically because he is a copy-cat with no real ideas of his own unless I'm wrong. I also think he is a selfish self interested man like Rafa Benitez driven on by his own ego. Ego-driven people can be successful if they have the goods to match the ego.

I hope Kenny Dalgish didn't take his play book with him when he and steve clark left.

I assume that you are only looking for a bite mate?

AK

Rodgers built up Swansea again after Paulo Sousa made a hash of things for a year. So Rodgers did not take over what Martinez built, Rodgers built his own team and installed his philosophy to get Swansea where they are now!

James Mc

He plays 4-2-3-1
Possesion football with a huge emphasis on working hard to immediately win the ball back when it's lost (in training they have 6 seconds to win it back).

The team can take breathers (if needed) when in possesion. The 3 behind the striker include a playmaker and two pacey wingers who can get wide and cross. The full backs push on. The 2 central midfielders include a 'contoller' as he calls it, basically plays like Alonso, keeps the team moving.

The whole team attacks, the whole team defends. He made the point before that at Swansea there were players who could play this way, they had just never been asked to, he just neded to add a couple of key signings.

Fitzy
