Hi reds fans/eds

I haven't posted for a while but I've been following the banter on a regular basis - the eds are doing a fantastic job (as per usual) and like so many other reds fans I'm so grateful for the views and info that they provide.

On another note I was wondering whether reds fans think it would be a good idea to sing the "heart as big as Liverpool" song at anfield; especially during the hillsborough anniversary period - apologies if you all think it's a rubbish idea maybe I just tend to get too emotional at the anniversary dates over the years. I watched a YouTube clip with the song dedicated to the 96 and it just felt so right - it would be another emotional way of showing solidarity with the families and pride in the team and the city - YNWA

Two tickets acquired for Sunday, right on the halfway line, taking my Dad who's a Spurs fan - very excited!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lucky you mate enjoy the game with your dad! I was on there 11 this morning and they were gone before I could click add to basket!

Agree0 Disagree0

2 Tickets Sunday also.
Lower Paddock- 3 rows up
Cannot wait.
Come on the lads!

Agree0 Disagree0

Ltp 123 i'm not bitter at all I had never seen enough of him to know if he would be a good signing or not but he chose spurs but he decided to give his reasons of why he chose them over us which he really didn't need to do I just find it amusung that the reasons he gave are now looking ridiculous when really he joined for the extra money

Watching Suso play and to be honest I don't think he'll make the LFC squad unless he is used as a sub, since his work rate is poor compared to Allen, Sterling, Henderson and even Coutinho. He is wonderful when on the ball and his vision and passing skills are superb but he almost never tracks back or press which all the above does or try to do.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That surely comes from the manager mate.

As all the talk is about how good a goal scoring team we are. I say we have our own goal scoring award!?
You all get 2 picks, your first choice is worth 2 points and your second 1 point. In the event of a tie, ed001 becomes Len Goodman. Please state clearly which goal "Suarez goal against Norwich" isn't going to help lol. Voting closes in 24 hours.
1. Flanno spurs pile driver
2. Sturridges unreal chip from 18 yards

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I had to Google Len Goodman then!}

Fair Play, Old Trafford is a hard place to win a game of football

Just ask David Moyes

Be careful whilst driving past old trafford as everyone who goes near the place gets three points

So David Moyes told a reporter, "The fans are behind me."

He's right.

Sir Richard Branson has refused to become Man United's new sponsor!
He said " I cannot allow the good name of VIRGIN to be associated with a bunch of footballer's who get F@CKED every game!"

Im not saying the Manchester United players don't want to play for David Moyes anymore, but the whole squad is currently learning the quenelle

Believable0 Unbelievable0

In reply to who I would like for the last 7 games how about;

Gary McCallister to bring on for the last 30 mins just to steady the ship when we start to lose our way.

Jari Litmanen just because he was a little genius who would help us pick the lock against some of the tight defenses.

Eds and reds, if you could have any player from the past in their Liverpool prime, who wasn't a star or hero, just consistent or produced odd bits of magic, who would it be? I'd like aurelio if fit, really like him, or maybe Danny murphy!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ray houghton or steve harkness there's others but they were in the team when I first started never really spectacular although houghton got some fantastic goals but they were consistent and the first 2 autographs I got so ill go with them but murphys a good shout

Agree0 Disagree0

Rob jones.

Agree0 Disagree0

Veggard hegem

Agree0 Disagree0

Paul Konchesky if he was fit, and played like Alaba.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fowler.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Ed001 gets asked this a fair bit, being a Liverpool fan. The last time I read one of his answers the response I believe was Alan Hanson.

Obviously Ed would need to reply in person and give their own thoughts. But I do remember Alan Hansen being an answer, seeing as the current defence is still a bit shaky at times, I think Hansen going into the last 7 games would still be a likely answer, although it might have changed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I would consider him a star and a hero, so couldn't go with him. Would Stevie Nicol be considered a star or hero? If not, I would go with him.}

Patrik berger

Agree0 Disagree0

Alan Kennedy - the sight of Barney motoring up and down the left flank was a sight to behold!

Agree0 Disagree0

Jari Litmanen, loved watching this guy play in the brief time we had him. Pure class!

Agree0 Disagree0

Litmanen is a boss shout, he oozed class - never sure why Houllier didn't like using him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Peter Cormack, Ray Kennedy, Craig Johnson anybody?

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Mar 2014 16:39:51
Jari was a good player who could do something out of the blue and win the game but that person run Fowler out of Liverpool also and bought them 2 from Senegal r wherever they came from that treble put us back 4 years and then the cowboys came in and set us back another 4years.

Jan Molby I remember r teacher saying in primary school if you look at the players ratings Molby got most of the man of the match awards season was 85/86 the double winning season although I'm sure rush got a good few that season, we started bad that season and man united won their first 11 games the media hype for them was awful I remember.

Evening Eds and fellow reds

After a helping hand pointing me in the right direction.

Due to my own football commitments on saturdays and living 300 odd miles away I don't get chance to get to anfield very often(only managed 2 games this season). Me and 3-4 redmen from Plymouth are looking to get tickets for the final game against Newcastle. I know tickets won't be on sale for a while yet, but with the season being as epic as it has panned out thus far, I can't see there being any available on general sale when that comes about. Does anyone know any trusted sites for genuine tickets? I've searched a few on google but can never be sure and don't want to be conned out of our money. we are happy to pay over the odds considering we might just get to see Stevie lift that trophy! Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Very nervy towards the end last night but crucial 3 points is all that matters. Thought Lucas couldve came on and sured up the midfield. Can't help but think any other year we wouldve drew that game and Fulham away was another example, something special is happening this year and one game at a time we're staying up there. Haven't felt this excited watching Liverpool for years!

I've thought recently, but if bought Suarez for 35 mil, sturridge for suarezs 20+, coutinho for 12 and Carroll for 8, things would be swell! Complete nonsense of a post I know, but would be more credible lol

If nothing else it shows the hit and miss nature of signings! When its going well, people tend to ignore the failures but when it's bad. ooh mama!

Hi Ed's
Do you think Stevie Gerrard will manage to avoid picking up this 10th yellow card until the second Sunday in April (I think I'm right with that), so that he doesn't get banned for 2 games? If he gets banned for the City game il be more upset than him being banned for Chelsea, as I think City are the favourites.
Also say he did pick up a yellow card for a situation which didn't merit a yellow card, could we appeal the yellow card to avoid the 2 game ban?
Cheers Ed's

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - How on earth would I know if he is going to get booked or not? You can't appeal yellow cards.}

Brendan Rodgers has spoke about Gerrard playing carefully, to avoid this Yellow, But I think we should protect Gerrard and play Lucas instead more often to ensure Gerrard doesn't miss the City and/or the Chelsea game. What do you think about that or do you think it's better to play him and risk it?
Thanks for telling me about not appealing a yellow card. Although it could result in an influential suspension in the title race, I think it's not fair this collective yellow card suspension and that you cannot appeal such a significant decision, Gerrard hasn't been a dirty player this season yet 1 more yellow and he misses 2 games.
This rule benefits teams with good quality squad depth and if Gerrard does get this ban and misses the City game, I think it will be the difference.
Btw Ed I wasn't asking you to pull out your crystal ball and tell me if he WILL get the yellow, I was simply asking if you think he can avoid it - *by being 'careful'
Cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The ruling is not unfair and is applied equally to all.}

Wez B this is nothing against you just a general thing your post brought up.

Does any one remember around December time when the majority of people on here, were calling for Gerrard to be dropped, and left on the bench, as Hendo, Allen and Lucas, were a better trio. Gerrard legs had gone and he should only be used as a sub, or play every other game.

Funny how every one now, is saying we need him and we desperately don't want him to pick up a card.

Agree0 Disagree0

@bobatron
I remember reading a load of those posts. Gerrard has been excellent for us again this season, IMO. He ws superb in the 1st half again on weds and solid in the 2nd half

Agree0 Disagree0

I admit I was one of the people questioning gerrard's inclusion in the team. At the time he was not looking great, had not been in good form and, on the occasions he missed through injury, we played much better. He has been better in 2014 but I think one of the points I made still stands: he is not the player he used to be and it is clear that he cannot exert the impact he used to over 90 minutes - I also suggested that as he is getting older we do need to be looking for a replacement in the form of a purchase and/or blooding a youngster - does anybody agree/disagree?

I admit he has been much improved in 2014 but still think we need to look at a long term strategy for when he retires. He's had a few niggling injuries - I'd posit that he won't be doing a Giggs and playing until he's 40.

So, 2nd in the league, 1 point behind Chelsea, with only 7 games to go. my nerves are shattered. That match last night did not do my fingernails any favours. In a way, though, I'm glad we didn't put 5 or 6 past Sunderland as complacency could creep in when playing Spurs on Sunday or West Ham next week. These matches are key to our title hopes as we will be well up for the big ones against Chelsea and City anyway. one game at a time though and Spurs are still fighting for a Champions League spot so despite their inconsistency, they are still very much a dangerous side. They will also be looking for revenge after what we did to them earlier in the season.
I would love for us to win the league but I have to say, no matter where we finish this season, it will be impossible to say we were not entertaining and this season, for me, will be one of the best I have ever witnessed as a Liverpool FC fan. The football is amazing, the atmosphere around the club is back and buzzing, a youth academy that may produce some of the greatest talents in world football at the moment and savvy owners who have pulled us up by the scruff of the neck and supported the club with 100's of millions of pounds, possible new stadium (details to me are unknown) and a manager, young and hungry for success.
We have become a major player in the title race again, something we haven't witnessed in 5 years.

Sometimes dreams come true.

Just wondering if any of the Eds could give us an insight on how the site came to be? For us slightly late comers to the party (2009- for me)

It's brilliant guys and your work is much appreciated.

YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it was 2001 when Ed033 was at college or uni or something like that, doing a course on web design or some other techy thing to do with the internet. I didn't even have a computer back then, and he was saying he had to build a website as a project for his course and wondered if I had any ideas. At the time my daughter was on her way, I was working shifts and had just had to give up my season ticket as I was unable to get to the games due to finances. We had just had a 25% pay cut forced on us and I was struggling just to pay the mortgage. So I suggested he did a football site and I would write him the content, as I was fed up seeing lies in the papers about who was moving where.

So we started a site, with me writing all the content while I was supposed to be working at print finishing. I used to have a hidey hole hidden behind the lockers in one of the locker rooms and would go up there and spend my time writing up all the notes I would write up while I was off after speaking to people in the game. So I used to spend my time off chasing up people and emailing and phoning anyone and everyone I could. I have to say, while I think on, Stirling Albion in particular were brilliant and extremely helpful and put me in touch with a number of people I would probably never have been able to speak to otherwise.

Eventually people started to send in rumours, which I just used to either post up or delete at first. Then one day I was bored, someone posted something in that just had to be laughed at, so I posted an {Ed's Note -} taking the mick on the end. It changed things completely. So many people responded to that, and the site just snowballed from there, and we have since ended up having to split it into ones for different clubs and sports etc.

Sorry for the long answer! I really meant to answer that quickly.}

Don't apologise mate, really quite a fascinating insight! Thank you so much for taking the time to respond mate, I'm sure I'm not the only one who wanted to know.

Agree0 Disagree0

I started reading the site during 2008 when it was just Football Rumours. I remember through the most ridiculous of rumours about League One clubs to find LFC related ones. Ed001, was it around 2008 that you guys started giving out Editors notes?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it might have been a bit earlier than that even. I think that was about the time when people started volunteering to help because it was just me doing all the editing on my own initially. Ed002 was one of the first people to come on board and has been invaluable to the sites. I just hope he never wants paying, because we would need Facebook to buy us out to pay what he is worth!}

I have been on it for the past few years now, since before the dedicated club pages, on the football-rumours website itself. Absolutely fantastic site, a tribute to all those who have put the effort into it and I wish you all the best for the future.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - hopefully we can improve the site continually. Though it is a lot to do with getting the right people using the site, as much as anything we do. Without you lot, there is no site, so you should all be thanking yourselves really. I would certainly like to thank you all.}

More interesting than the usual dross posted about players from FIFA we ain't never going to sign

So did you know of Ed02 before hand? Or did he approach you via the site?
I'd love to become an ed, however I have absolutely 0 contacts on any insides. But I could always just repeat what the eds put about players and post/reply to comments. I pinky swear I'll never reveal Ed02s true gender or weight, and I don't even need to know who Macca is!? Do we have a deal ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Ed002 used to visit the site and we discussed football, she had a much better insight into the financial side than I did, so we discussed it further and he agreed to help out.}

The original football rumours page was fierce ed. No holds barred stick. Not for the faint hearted in those days. Yet good fun. The memories.

She and he Ed? Talk about perpetuate the myth.

Agree0 Disagree0

What's been your most memorable post ed001? Was it the legendary ken aguero sighting? Haha

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I think it has to be the initial Ken Aguero sighting, it just kicked off some of the funniest convos ever. Not just those in on it, but those who didn't get it and would query the name.}

27 Mar 2014 23:07:56
I like the change of the pronouns there Ed001. Is there an agreement, to not specify the gender of Ed02 under any circumstances?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is more of an unspoken pact.}

27 Mar 2014 23:08:38
Wow, this is great insight, Ed001. I have a lot of admiration for you and Ed02 for your in-depth knowledge of the game and the goings on within clubs. If I had a wish, it would be that Ed02 was a Liverpool fan. He/she has way too much football knowledge to be a Chelsea fan to be honest. On top of that, people from his/her part of the world don't even call the game football

Agree0 Disagree0

The Ken Aguero stuff was legendary! As you said Ed001 if you didn't know the running joke you'd be wondering what the hell people were talking about! Haha

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - people were so confused it was brilliant. The amount of posts we got pointing out the correct spelling was Kun was just mind boggling. People clearly don't read all the posts!}

28 Mar 2014 09:03:47
So, Ed 02 is not a he, not a she, perhaps this should be posted on the conspiracy pages. My theory is that Ed 02 is an alien. I have always believed that there is other life forms out there. You only have to read some of the posts on here and to look at David Moyes, Arsene Wenger amongst others to believe in other life forms. Ed02 must come from the intelliplanet. They are a weird bunch from there, I should know, I married one of them.

Lets win the title for Stevie, He deserves it and its just 7 more games, we have a fully fit squad, let's do it.

Agree0 Disagree0

It would be amazing for stevie g to finally get a league winners medal i'd be gutted for Jamie caragher though if we did win it the year after he retired he deserves 1 as much as stevie g I wonder if he regrets not playing 1 more year if I was him i'd have been tempted to come out of retirement at xmas

Agree0 Disagree0

All depends where we end the season. The club will invest in a few positions, I don't think we will go for just decent squad players now we need good quality to come off the bench and rotate for other competitions, wehave been blessed not having them so we can put out our best 11 every week.

I think 3-4 good players is the minimum, not too many outs, maybe a couple of backs, coates is one who will probably move.

I feel we are in good hands

So here comes the glen johnson hate. Anyways, would you guys straight swap gj for Sagna?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lol no.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am all for supporting the players, but I don't see a problem with constructive criticism. Johnson was poor yesterday. He gave away the ball cheaply far too many times, was all over the place defensively and ineffective when attacking. Really, really poor.

Agree0 Disagree0

He almost seems to play better without confidence. With confidence he bombs up the field and tries to take on the world when he can't. When he's played on the left or just back in the team he's a lot more cautious and seems to have a better game. Maybe it's just me but he seems to suffer from over confidence at times.

Agree0 Disagree0

I felt sorry for him a bit - every time he misplaced a pass in the final third, the crowd sighed in frustration. The pressure of the occasion really affected him yesterday, you could see it on his face.

I was just at work bored and started thinking about players that we could have signed that would have improved our squad but other teams signed instead. obviously these players were players that we could of actually signed, considering wages and transfer fee. I would have thought Eriksen (Tottenham) and Strootman (Roma) would have been quality additions. Was gutted when Strootman signed for Roma for around 15m, anyone that had watched him play would have seen he was undoubtedly going to be a world beater, just unfortunate about his recent injury. Eriksen on the other hand would have provided excellent competition for Coutiniho. Any other players that spring to mind fellow reds?

Was kinda hoping that Glen Johnson was going to start flying again now he was back from his injury. But after watching the game for a second time I can't believe how poor he was. Gave the ball away so many times. I counted 5 times in the space of about 4 minutes at one stage

Also, how bad was that ref? If we don't win games because we're not the best team then fair enough. But not to get obvious decisions because of the ref is unacceptable. Even Johnson's foul right at the end for their free-kick wasn't really a foul. Not compared to some of the earlier fould on Suarez anyway

Glen and Suarez were poor yesterday.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was watching with my 9 year old yesterday and he started to cheer everytime Johnson didn't lose the ball. I didn't even prompt him.

It was a really poor game by Johnson. He gave the ball away so cheaply and so frequently.

I usually admire him for at least taking the risk by having a go but he really disappointed last night. I suspect the praise by Rogers just went to his head and he got too complacent.

I so want him to stay and prove me wrong mind you

The last few months have taught me something. Liverpool fans are genuine and most of United's are spoilt brats.
For many years we have humbly waited for the return of our great club to the title race. Fair to say at times we were a bit arrogant but all in all I think we honestly accepted that for atleast the last 10 years we were not challenging for the title, mostly, because there were better teams in the league. A difficult truth but one we managed to accept.
Now look at those United fans who call for Moyes' head week in week out. Shame on them. Did the rule of Fergie not teach them that continuity and longevity are important. They need to accept that after 25 years of being one of the best, extremely hard for a Liverpool fan to admit, their squad is not what it was and they are having a terrible season.
Im enjoying watching them learn humility, saying stuff like this shouldn't happen to United. What fickle fools, they followed a team simply for the glory instead of love of the club.
Any true fan knows they will see their team go through the good the bad and the ugly and cannot simply believe they will be the best team forever because they are Chelsea, City, United, Arsenal or yes Liverpool.

On another note, it is great to see us holding on, somewhat slimly to the hope of the title. Mourinho must see us as a threat with the way the points are set, I think Pellegrini will be more focussed on Chelsea right now, but were in his rear view mirror. Truly a fantastic push by the lads.

This post is 100% spot on! My best mate and lifelong friend is a Man U fan (I know, know) and I've had to endure the rubbing in the face of United's successess over the last 20 or so years including the constant reminder that my mate gives me that we was both 8 years old when Liverpool last won a league title. I would throw back with the odd '5 Euro Cups' fact but nothing changed the fact that I was mostly sat next to him watching United win title after title during our teenage and early adult years!

The way he has been humbled this season has been a great sight to behold tbh lol. He was actually still quite arrogant until we beat them the other week, now he actually admits that we are truly in the race and that we probably deserve to win it this season on merit.

To be fair to him though, when Moyes was appointed his first reaction was "oh goldfish, we're going to turn into Everton" lol so I guess he saw the destruction coming

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyone remember Roy Hodgson? i'm sorry to say that I wanted him out; nothing to do with the person just a poor manager who tried us to play football in a way that it shouldn't (IMO).

I know I wasn't the only one, so can't say that we are all genuine all of the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

My son's mate is only relatively new to following the EPL here in Australia. So he chose United and got a Van Persie shirt for his 8th birthday (reigning champions with reigning golden boot winner - no glory hunting there - but hey, he's 8). For his 9th birthday - he wants an LFC shirt with Suarez on it. I told my son, who has always been an LFC boy from birth, that he is not allowed to do that sort of thing under my roof!

Solid but nervy performance by the lads last night. Gerard was brilliant as always in his new role and his goal was a joy to watch. Coutinho was magical and clearly my MOTM. If he gives this type of performance in our remaining games, then we can dream of the title. I think its time now that Suarez and Sturridge forget their selfishness and work for each other, coze we need to win each and every game left.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Selfish Suarez, does lead the assist table as well as goalscoring table this season you know!

Agree0 Disagree0

And Sturridge is equal 5th in assists in the league. Actually outright 8th, however that is worked out (mins played I guess), but purely on number of assists, 5th highest number, being 7.

Hi Eds and fellow Reds

Great win but tense towards the end!

Was there anything wrong with Sturridge last night? He didn't seem happy to score and was downbeat during the interview. in case anyone has an idea.

Can't wait to destroy Spurs. PLEASE!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's because the interviewer always steers the interview towards how brilliant Suarez is. They used to do the same thing when interviewing Gary Lineker. Lineker would score a hat-trick but they'd only ask him how good Paul Gascogine played! It's rude if you ask me!

Great win last night, its not about performances now its just about getting the job done and getting the 3 points be it 5-0 or a scrappy 2-1. We looked a bit leggy for the last 20 mins.

Edds, which countries in Europe is third party ownerashop banned? I can only think of England at the moment. Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Third Party Ownership is banned in France, England and Poland. Bans in Belgium and Sweden were lifted when legal challenges were made. UEFA and FIFA would like it banned completely. Several countries (e.g. Germany) have restrictions on economic rights but do not explicitly ban it.}

For those that do not know. At the beginning of the season Jason Cundy (Tweedle Dee) and Andy Goldstein (Tweedle Dumb) made a bet on their radio show, when an upbeat and hopeful Liverpool fan claimed Liverpool would finish in the top four, they both disagreed and laughed at the guy and Goldstein decided to bet his hair that Liverpool would fail to get a top four place, Cundy agreed to bet his hair as well, so cocky were the pair of cockney's that Liverpool would flop.

Well, a lot of Liverpool fans have been reminding them about this bet and last night Brendan Rodgers was interviewed on the pairs radio segment, after the Sunderland match. Rodgers admitted that he had heard about the bet and was looking forward to proving them both wrong, then they both conceded that Liverpool look set not only finish in the top four, but have a chance at winning the damn League, then they asked Rodgers if he would be good enough to shave their heads. Rodgers being a great sport said he would be delighted, if he has the time. LoL Well done.

I say Rodgers should get the pair to put some pennies in a charity pot towards the Liverpool City for making an appearance (Champions League managers can demand a larger sum for personal appearances, I heard. :)

Great stuff, good banter. Goldstein should be in a Man City shirt and Cundy should be in an Arsenal shirt (he had no problem in wearing the Spurs shirt during his playing days) XD Pair of clowns soon will be a pair of eggs.

Lol I'm aware of this bet and I hope that Brendan takes great pleasure in shaving the heads of those 2 clowns! Esp Cundy! I can't stand him!

Agree0 Disagree0

I listen to them every night in the car in dublin . I can't wait to see the two of them shaved, listening to the two of them eating their words said eariler in the season gives me a smile from ear to ear, cundy is a blue and the other guy is a manc. last two months it dawned on them they are going brazilian on the head and they are not happy.

Do you think BR will let the razor slip?

Hello Eds, hope you are well:

was listening to a Tony Evans talking about how Brendan didn't want Sturridge and i'm fairly certain that's rubbish, from what I understand he was purely a Rodgers signing, can you clear it up? Also was wondering how our "transfer committee" works? if you've got enough time to give a proper explanation it would be great

thanks for your time lads.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is fair to say that Rodgers' first choice was Clint Dempsey and after losing out he had to move for someone in January. The option of Sturridge came along and Liverpool approached Chelsea who said they would not stand in his way if he wanted to move - so he did.

The purpose of the "committee" is to ensure that all concerned parties are satisfied with proposed transfers from both a football and business standpoint.}

27 Mar 2014 12:13:00
I have to hold my hands up and say I was one of the fans that was upset at the whole Dempsey, FSG website drama and the fact that we didn't get him. How wrong was I?

We got our Danny Boy now for a bargain 12mil and I'm personally estatic about him being a LFC player.

He's going to be a future legend in my opinion

What a fortunate turn of events for us and Sturridge. I bet neither club nor player have looked back.

We need to go back to our 4-3-3 against spurs with sterling in for Allan. We're at home and are way more dangerous with that team. Plus sterling will bust a gut and get motm to get back into the starting 11.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree.
I would like to see Sterling start the game. Maybe bring Allen on to shut up shop so to speak.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rodgers said the other night when talking about the match (the Cardiff match) that he likes to play Sterling when he has space to run at the defenders and terrify them, or when he is allowed space to run into and hurt teams on the counter with his energy and pace.

Rodgers then explained that he prefers Coutinho to head the diamond when the space is tight and there are lots of bodies in and around the final third, so Coutinho can pick out through balls and make intricate and delicate touches for the strikers to latch onto and to open up the defence.

Just to give us an idea, if a team is going to sit deep and defend in numbers (Cardiff and Sunderland) then Rodgers will seemingly favour Coutinho as a key that unlocks the defence. When teams try to attack and actually play a positive brand of football, chances are Rodgers will use Sterling as a punishment to the opposition, for stepping up and pressing too high and leaving space in behind to attack.

Agree0 Disagree0

So against spurs olli would you start coutinho or sterling?
Great squad options the pair of them, and also game changers from the bench should the game be tight or open.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Mar 2014 13:44:35
I'd start Sterling, but most of that would be as you say because they are more likely to attack us.

I think they will both play and Allen will drop out however.

Good win tonight! I was wondering Rodgers has brought on extra defenders before in the last 10 minutes. Lucas replacing Gerrard in midfield could have been a shout? It's good to win ugly every now and then!

Team was generally good tonight but we are conceding soft goals through a lack of concentration.

Don't want to slate Flanagan, but (from memory) his positioning in the last 2 games was a major reason for at least 2 of the goals conceded.

Cardiff 1st goal:

He got sucked out towards the byline to double team the Cardiff player. This created space in behind and Mutch used that to waltz into the box and score - very fine shot though.

Sunderland:

Got caught ball watching instead of manning up on Ki. Easy header.

He's been a good defender this year and is young. However, I think it's time for him to tighten up a bit on his opposing player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Crap - the first Cardiff goal was as much Gerrards fault for not tracking the run of Mutch - he fell off him and then tried to catch up when he saw Mutch making a move towards goal. Flanagan seems to be everyone's easy target. The kid tries his hardest and we have been lucky to have him this season. Liuke Shaw was responsible for some of our goals, and Spurs as well - but hey, he is still the best LB in world football according to this page.

Agree0 Disagree0

The ball should have never made it to him in the first place. ball should have been cleared and he was looking for it to take a nick.

Agree0 Disagree0

Flanno is Quality!

Agree0 Disagree0

The defensive unit should shoulder the blame of soft goals instead of singling of Flanno. Yes, he lost Ki for the header, but it should have been meet earlier and cleared as RyanWhittington stated. So how can Flanno be blamed? In that passage of play he was obviously not the only one to lose his focus.

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly what redfish said, we are starting another blame game here. We can't expect anybody to have 100% concentration for an entire game let alone such a young and inexperienced player in flanno. He's had a fantastic season and his rise has been phenomenal.
