I am not sure I understand what is the point of Klopp's comment that Sturridge has to know when a pain is serious. Sounds a bit humiliating to me. If he thought this is the case and Sturridge has some psychological issues or low pain threshold he should have told it to him personally. what is the point in doing it in public? Must be hard time to Sturridge anyway, not sure how would that help. If BR would say something like that he would get a lot of stick here.

Believable5 Unbelievable26

27 Nov 2015 21:25:35
You're nit picking. Klopp was saying that his training is more intense than under the previous manager and that players need to learn how they should feel after those sessions. Our other players have had several weeks now to adjust whereas Sturridge has not, and it's particularly important that Sturridge does so given his history.

Agree18 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 22:02:14
Serious pain as in - don't train/play on because this will cause serious problems

and

not serious pain - as in you've had a hard training session and your body is aching but there are no long term consequences.

Simple.

Agree21 Disagree3

27 Nov 2015 21:36:32
I still think he should have said it to him personally.

Agree3 Disagree20

27 Nov 2015 22:50:55
How do you know Klopp didn't tell him?

Agree16 Disagree1

27 Nov 2015 23:05:12
Yeah I agree he should have kept it in house but the press were firing questions at him about sturridge, fishing for a headline.

Agree8 Disagree4

27 Nov 2015 23:34:41
Wow abit of the famous "foot in mouth" syndrome. To quote the eds.

Agree1 Disagree16

27 Nov 2015 23:47:23
Yeah I think it was meant as in, he maybe thought he was in pain because of the harder sessions but it was intact an injury and he didn't stop until it worsened.

Agree5 Disagree0

28 Nov 2015 05:17:32
Klopp is a stand up guy with dignity and respect for his fellow man and loves his players. Don't know if his comments were made as a direct pop at Studge or maybe he was explaining the situation as he saw it. I would trust him and choose the latter scenario.

Agree14 Disagree0

28 Nov 2015 05:30:22
I think he was just being honest, I read it as him saying Sturridge is perhaps paranoid about being injured again (fair enough with his history) and so stops at every bit of soreness. Perhaps he does really need to relearn what is 'normal' discomfort and what needs time out worsening a real problem.

Agree10 Disagree0

28 Nov 2015 05:52:50
What he said makes sense in the context in which it was said. It wasn't a sly dig at him. Personally I can't see it getting better ft Sturridge. He's playing progressively less year after year. His missed half the potential games. But the end of the season it will be closer to two thirds of potential games. Feel sorry for the lad but very few recover in the long term from these problems.

Agree3 Disagree0

28 Nov 2015 06:52:45
So fanobip is sharpening his knife already. How pathetic to pounce on something as minor as this comment, which is true by the way.

Maybe he did say it to him, then he got a little bruise on his little foot, another month out. Sturridge should grow a pair, Klopp should let us know what's happening and how he feels about it, if he wants to. We pay good money for Studge each week, for him to play for England and do nothing for us for 6 months+

Go find something else to moan about.

Agree10 Disagree4

28 Nov 2015 06:54:57
Sturridge needs to grow a pair i'm my opinion. i'm sick of hearin about this blokes injuries if I am honest. Great player when fit but that's his problem he never is i'm sure he prefers sitting in the stand thinking he looks good.

Agree6 Disagree6

28 Nov 2015 07:20:43
Take it easy Max Renn, I am not sharpening any knife. I like Klopp and what he is doing in the club as much as anyone else, just didn't like that one comment.

Agree3 Disagree8

28 Nov 2015 08:21:53
Seriously have u actually heard or read the entire statement, swish is spot on, and it's been taken completely out of context, now it's the headline, out of all he said the papers are doing what papers do and picking the line that will grab the most attention. Other posters have to an extent explained what Klopp was saying, not only is he coming back from major injuries he will also fear that any pain or discomfort is going to be another lengthy layoff and it will take time for him to adjust to the new training methods and intensity but also to have the confidence in his body so that he knows a little niggle or pain etc is not going to be serious, he is re learning what his body is feeling and how to interpret that in his head then understand its normal. that can take a long time to happen as has been stated many times by Eds and posters alike, physically he may be very close to being 100% fit but after the injury run he has had it will be while before he is mentally fit and confident.

Agree11 Disagree0

28 Nov 2015 13:31:27
Klopp told it like it is and Studge as well as those moaning on here need to get over themselves because he won't pander to Studge like BR did and he will cut bait with him when and if that time comes. Klopp owes him nothing so Studge had better grow a backbone and overcome whatever mental block he has.

Agree3 Disagree1

28 Nov 2015 15:42:14
One must really question Sturridge's commitment?

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Nov 2015 16:33:44
I think someone should teach klopp the word called merlingering.

Agree1 Disagree1

28 Nov 2015 19:36:02
Glad I'm not the only one who saw the media quotes and couldn't see/hear them in what he actually said. It has been taken very much out of context by lazy journos looking for something to say to stir things up.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 19:46:22
Eds, I believe some teams insure their players. If they did does the insurance cover their pay until they are healthy and ready to play. Excuse my ignorance if I'm way off.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - All major sides insure players - generally they don't claim unless it is a major issue with a long time out.}

27 Nov 2015 22:04:05
Klopp is saying it as it is! Sturridge is causing him to worry and needs to toughen up maybe. Klopp has every right to say it as it is and that's why we love him so much already. Sturridge when fit is the best striker in league maybe behind aguero but at the mo he is a liability.

Agree8 Disagree3

27 Nov 2015 19:01:59
Adding to the sturridge debate I think there are two main points.

He's a person like the rest of which means if it is a mentally problem as should be showing support. He's had genuine injury problems and he may convince himself it could worsen if he plays, but at the end of the day that could happen to any player. In time he will hopefully get over it and I definitely put my faith in Klopp to get him over that.

What if he gets sold? If he premier league bought him can you imagine the goals he would get for them if he in time got over the injury problems. We are lucky to have him because hopefully soon he's going to have a good run with us.

Believable8 Unbelievable0

27 Nov 2015 19:35:09
The first of the brace he got at home to Villa was a world class finish. That, coming after his first game back from injury. Did it against West Ham last season too. I reckon he's worth the wait. Benteke is more than capable of filling in.

27 Nov 2015 20:29:15

Heard a few ex players comment on Danny's injury situation but JK words are the best I've heard.

I'm sorry mate but he's right if you want to play you will go through the pain barrier.

28 Nov 2015 05:20:24
If you don't wanna get injured, don't play. End of.

Agree4 Disagree1

27 Nov 2015 17:13:54
Even if you factor in all the games Sturridge has missed, his goals to games ratio is still about 1 in 3.
That's how you justify paying him.

Believable9 Unbelievable15

27 Nov 2015 19:11:09
It's embarrassing the way us Liverpool fans have such strong emotional ties with our players.
If Klopp wants to get rid of Sturridge (or anyone else for that matter) then I fully support him!
They've never won anything for this football club, Klopp is a Winner, a born champion. And he'll discard any player he doesn't seem fit enough to meet his high demands.
Liverpool Footnall Club will be great again, and I can't wait for Kloppo to drag us to the top.

Agree16 Disagree10

27 Nov 2015 19:13:54
He has scored twice this season. At the ferocious rate he is scoring, and bearing in mind he is now out for a further 12 weeks, he is on course to score a colossal 4-5 goals this season. Which is about what he scored last season (5)

Saying he scores 1 goal for every three matches is scratching at statistics and failing to take into account how few games he plays.

Danny Ings has got a better goals to games ratio in the premier league this season than Sturridge. In fact his scoring record over the last three years is marginally better than Sturridge - and for two of those he was playing for an inferior team.

No sentiments in this game. He is a luxury we cannot afford.

Agree10 Disagree8

27 Nov 2015 19:14:59
(one of those seasons was in fact Championship - but you get the drift)

Agree0 Disagree4

27 Nov 2015 18:03:28
42 goals scored in 69 games equals 1,22 goals in 2 games. He is as close to world class as you get when he is fit and playing. But he is not is he? He has missed 71 games. that's just crazy injury prone.

Agree12 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 19:50:57
Not sure Mikey's being emotional, quite the opposite in fact.

Buying a player of Sturridge's quality would cost at least £40m and even then there's no guarantee they'd work out. The most straight forward and most economical way that Liverpool can have a world class striker in their squad is to get Sturridge fit. If there's a chance he can become fit again he's worth it.

Klopp's a sensible guy, he'll stick with him.

Agree8 Disagree4

27 Nov 2015 20:25:10
Is he out for 12 weeks.

Agree0 Disagree3

27 Nov 2015 20:36:34
No not being emotional, just rational.

Agree1 Disagree1

27 Nov 2015 20:47:34
Here are Daniel Sturridge's exact numbers:

Since joining us in January 2013 he has played a total of 70 games (5,332 minutes) scoring 43 goals and assisting 16 times. 5332 minutes are around 59 full 90 minute matches. So Sturridge scores or assists once every 90 minutes or so, so to buy that calibre of player you will need £ 40+ million plus insane wages. Not happening.

Agree9 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 21:19:37
I hate to say it guys, but the best player on the planet is no use whatsoever when he is injured. if its all the time.

Agree7 Disagree3

27 Nov 2015 23:59:43
He's not injured all the time.
Just half the time lol.

Agree4 Disagree1

28 Nov 2015 05:26:40
Out for another 12 weeks means out for two thirds of the season already. I've personally given up on him for this season. If he plays, great. If he doesn't, we have Firmino and Benteke to choose from. We move on because you can't play someone who isn't available and no use lamenting his absence.

Agree3 Disagree1

28 Nov 2015 10:16:29
Not specifically saying you mikey. Just saying in general. You've got to admit it's a bit cringey how attached most fans become over these players, I mean, what's Daniel Sturridge ever won for Liverpool?

Agree4 Disagree1

28 Nov 2015 10:39:02
I know Dbol.
Wondering if we are going to get a "how about Torres" post today. Haha
I'm not emotionally attached to studge I just haven't given up on him yet. But it's not as if we miss him, we have plenty of decent cover now.
I can't see him being a player we can build a team around but he's a very nice luxury to have, even if it's just half the time. If he was on a paid per game contract nobody here would be complaining, you would think half the posters on here where paying his wages personally.
To me, he's far too good to risk letting go, he will go to a rival and if he gets fit he's going to be unstoppable for them, much better Liverpool taking that risk.

Agree1 Disagree1

28 Nov 2015 11:13:05
Yeah mate. I reckon a pay as you play contract would be ideal for this situation. But why would he even consider that when he can see this luxurious contract out and never string 3 games together if he wishes. And To be fair mikey, I was emotionally attached to the Torres chant haha. I miss bouncing on the Kop way more than I miss what became a 'money obsessed' Nando.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 16:12:59
the whole daniel sturridge debate has been a massive topic for debate for a while now, I don't think many lfc fans or other teams fans would debate that he has got great ability and can be devastating with his pace, skill and finishing. then the flip side I believe in his near 3 year stint at lfc he has played 70 games but MISSED 73 through one injury or another. in that time his ratio is also among the best to goal to game ratio lfc has had, but surely the amount of games missed out weighs the goal to game ratio? I don't want to speculate on how much players are on so on so forth but I would be very surprised if he wasn't in top 3 earners at us. I have read loads of comments saying why sell him he the best we got when fit so on so forth but that's my biggest issue injuries are part of the game and I feel for the likes of ings and gomez who have suffered acl pretty much together and will miss most if not all of the season this I see as part of the game injuries but with sturridge some one just needs to look at him and it seems it's a 6 week lay off. even then there another set back in between he comes back again. I know a lot of lfc fans would disagree with what I'm saying and hey I seen what rvp done when he left arsenal for United and won them the league so I understand the reasoning behind trying to keep some one as good as sturridge but in my eyes I think this has become to much of an issue with so many false dawns that he all fixed and better now ready to go when he just breaks down again. I would love to hear the eds oppinions on this matter but I think it might be best for all parties to part ways.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

27 Nov 2015 17:21:00
DS is easily one of the best finishers in the league.
It pains me to even consider selling such a player.
However, Klopp wants his squad playing AND training at ultra high intensity. DS will not be able to do that IMO so the only outcome is to sell him. It's a sad state of affairs.
I don't know who would buy him or for what price, I suppose we'd be hoping to break even.

Replacements I believe are not currently a priority, we have Ings, Origi and Firmino.

Agree8 Disagree6

27 Nov 2015 18:44:19
First, Aguero is a better finisher. Second, I don't see what we gain from selling him other than his salary and if the injuries continue, we will have to to move to some arrangement of pay as you play. The money we may get for him if we sell him will not be worth it no one will pay much for a player who is always injured. He should be another option we have for about third of our games. a bonus. What is there to lose?

Agree1 Disagree2

27 Nov 2015 19:10:26
Fano- I said "one of the best finishers". I stand by that. His wages are over £5m a year. Pay as you play is pie in the sky, ask ed002. Klopp expects the whole squad to train together at the same intensity which helps build team spirit. He won't indulge individuals to the detriment of the team.

Agree14 Disagree0

28 Nov 2015 05:02:59
Well said, Ron.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Nov 2015 05:30:01
Spot on, Ron. The days of when managers in England pander to players are over. Klopp will not tolerate any of that. If you can't train, you won't play and if Studge can't be sorted out, he will be let go and we will all get over it.

What was the outcome of sturridges scan?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Nov 2015 16:30:31

BR also got us to second in the league in the management capacity. So what's your point?

If your not playing half the time and will never be glued together let's just cut our losses on him. Excellent player, and I feel bad for him not being able to overcome his injuries and perform like a proper athlete but he has problems with his body that are costing a lot of money.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 14:40:50
Regarding Sturridge I believe that we should look at Arsenal. They had Van Persie, very talented but had injury issues and finally it paid of that season where he was captain. That he left them for United is of course ironic.
I think even Walcott, Wilshire etc have also had their problems.
I think we should trust Klopp to do the right thing.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

27 Nov 2015 15:15:02
Then they sold him and won the league for United.

Agree3 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 15:21:17
I fail to see the irony in his move, but this is an excellent example. It did pay off for Arsenal, and luckily for us I don't get the impression that Sturridge would throw it all back in our face when he does recover. Klopp has said its not that serious and was likely just a case of him adapting to the intensity of our training now.

Agree0 Disagree1

27 Nov 2015 17:51:05
I think people are overlooking into Sturbridge matter. There is no list of suitors outside waiting to sign DS. Given the club makes him available and the price we slap on him, I highly doubt there would be even one interested parties in England.

Chelsea won't come near another Torres Debacle
The last thing city want is another Aguero in the sidelines.
Arsenal will not buy him for the money we command.
We wouldn't sell to UTD.

I am not sure how many games would he play this season, but if any player is put of action, it becomes immensely difficult to find a buyer.

Agree2 Disagree1

27 Nov 2015 20:19:52
Thats probably your best post ever Harry. But you've heard about Spain and Italy right?

Agree5 Disagree1

27 Nov 2015 21:33:09
I actually think Studge would suit a slower paced game, such as italy's or spain's. Less running, higher lines, and generally slower defenders. I wouldn't rule it above a foreign club asking his availability and fitness.

Agree0 Disagree1

27 Nov 2015 21:58:11
There is no money in Italy, Certainly big money.
Barcelona do not need a mainstream striker for at least another 2-3 years. Real is the only option but I highly doubt they would come anywhere near a player who has missed 71 games in 4 years.

Agree0 Disagree1

27 Nov 2015 23:05:44
how much do you think studge would fetch? sometimes you have to cut your losses harry. Also to say there's no money in Italy is a bit unfair. there are some well run clubs.
Real ''is the only option'', what makes you say that? how much do you think we would demand?

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Nov 2015 07:06:46
Bob

We will slap close to 40 mill pounds without any hesitation.
He is young and has excellent goal to game ratio.

No well run football clubs in Italy would come anywhere near him for that amount including Juventus.

Tell me how many clubs in Spain would buy a player for that amount?

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Nov 2015 12:06:56
ok EG if you say so.

No club would go near him for that amount I agree, but we would be stupid to ask for such a high number he's had 1 good season, and been injured for the other 2. I think you plucked £40 million out of thin air personally.

27 Nov 2015 13:49:38
A couple of points regarding last night:

- The referee -

I thought on the whole he had a good game. Most of the big decisions he got right. Yes, the crowd got on his back last night but in that second half a large number of fouls where entirely our own fault. When a ref gives a foul for a perceived push near the start of the game, take note of it. He was consistent on that throughout the game and we constantly gave away fouls for doing it. Needless and brainless.

- Mignolet -

He got what he deserved with the award of the indirect freekick and honestly he was lucky that he didn't get one or two more in that second half. You would think he would have learned after the goal. Not to be.

On the subject of the goal I found Migs positioning very poor. It was a great shot but he only had a very small space to aim at and Migs was nowhere near it. Leave the wall to do its job and make sure you don't get beat on your side. Its not difficult.

- Tempo -

The game died a horrible death in that second half. After about sixty minutes we just looked knackered.

- Studge -

What can you say? If he didn't have bad luck he wouldn't have any. The issue for me isn't getting Studge fit. It's relying on him so much we are desperate for him to come back. I want to see a Liverpool team where when somebody goes out long term then somebody lays down a marker and says "that's my place". If we had that then there would no need to rush Daniel back or have any pressure on this return. I often wonder with him whether he is just trying to hard and not, as some think, at all.

- The new stand -

It is starting to look good. It will look fantastic when its finished. Can't say I would want to be sat up there mind. Anfield wise you are going to be a long, long way from the action. You may as well be sat in the twelfth man.

- Wine Gum issues -

That miserable couple sat next to me still haven't offered me a wine gum. That's at least three bags now through the group stages. Then they stink the place out with Bovril. Ergh.

Believable6 Unbelievable3

27 Nov 2015 14:47:21

Spot with Mingo`s howler (s) . he got he reward for taking the mick out of the ref for holding the ball for over triple the time alotted for holding it. as for studge, I don`t know anymore what to think. I`m just hoping one day, all this will bebbehind him BUT it has to start from him, mentally and maybe a lifestyle change is needed.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 13:33:21
People saying Sell sturridge and buy a replacement are mad. Ings benteke and firmino are all capable there, and for every game we've played one up top. 3 for one position is enough, with origi too and sturridge around.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

27 Nov 2015 14:26:37
Sturridge around doing what exactly? he can't even do a light training without getting injured. People are turning against him as such just thinking what's best for the club and the targets of us the fans, the players and the club. If we have to buy a striker then we have to buy a striker.

Ings is out until the end of the season maybe a month before depending on how he progresses. Origi hasn't shown he is up to leading the line so far, Benteke dosent have the best track records of staying injury free and firmino i think prefers the number 10 role. So saying to buy a new striker in the winter dosent sound that bad if you put it that way does it?

Agree7 Disagree4

27 Nov 2015 20:37:57
We won't be buying any strikers in January, that would be a waste of money. Benteke has scored 5 goals in 9 starts and is doing very well, when he is out injured, Firmino can fill there. we have Danny Ings also who started very well and will suit Klopp and his pressing system.

Getting Sturridge fit is the only option for now, maybe in the summer if the club decides to move him on and also sell Yesil, Sinclair and Origi then we will need a ST but until that a striker and a number 10 is the last positions we need to fill.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Nov 2015 20:53:13
People have been saying that Firmino 'favours' the no. 10 role, but I'm not sure we have any evidence of this.

He's played both no. 10 and false 9 for Hoff as well as for Brazil, and done well in both. I think he favors a central attacking role, which both positions fit.

I think Firmino would enjoy, and also excel, in either position for us, so long as he is playing with likewise fluid attackers. He links up with Coutinho and Lallana very well. Less no with Benteke, and this is not surprising. Over time, that will improve too, as Firmino matures.

The other thing I'll say about Firmino, is people give him a lot of guff for missing chances. This is true, but I just counsel patience. Suarez used to miss a tonne of chances in his first and second season with us (remember Suarez's ugly penalty miss against Sunderland in 2011? Against Brighton in 2012?).

The most important point, was that Suarez was getting the chances through creative movement, darting runs, pace, skill and guile in the final third. Eventually, Suarez honed his finishing and the goals cam in droves. Firmino, too, is creating similar kinds of chances for himself through similar movement/creativity/skill. I think the goals will also come, once he works on his final product.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 13:28:19
Eds, I saw a pic of Jose Enrique jogging with the first team the other day. Is he back training with them or was it just a warm up thing? Is he a complete lost cause, I don't knew the full extent of his issues, but one was too much social meadis and one was he doesn't listen to any instruction right? He's already said to quit social media, and if klopp could talk some positional sense into him and to listen and play as part of a team, does he have a chance. I always thought he had quite a lot of ability as a player, decent left boot on him, just a bit of an idiot. I'm not really saying he deserves another shot as such, but he wouldn't be the worst sub left back for now, if his issues were I moved or resolved.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - He is a first team squad member who will be available for selection from next week - after a period of injury.}

I fear Mignolet's days are numbered at Liverpool. That was a catastrophic mistake of the highest order last night. Although Klopp didn't show it I would imagine he was fuming inside. A new keeper in January a priority for Klopp after that debacle.

It is ridiculous that so many people are having a go at Sturridge because he is injured - I have never seen a player slated so much for getting injured. It isn't like it's deliberate is it? it will be as frustrating for him as it is for us - I certainly don't think he is bottling it, or doing it on purpose, or deserves constant criticism from fans because of it. Should we play him with a knock and then have an even more serious injury to deal with? Don't really know what you expect from an injured player - he is trying to get back fit, is having really bad luck - why is this worthy of abuse?

Believable9 Unbelievable2

Take a pay as you play contract and get the f*** off Instagram and stay behind the scenes. All these 'thanks to God' or taking pics of a new outfit or some new shoes, walking around just fine is not doing his image any good. It's very easy to come to games, daglish, Rush etc always come to the games and they don't represent the club like he does. He's probably made to come anyway. I'm not saying don't enjoy yourself, but there's a way to enjoy yourself and seem serious about your situation. He's the highest paid player I think, and he's missed more games than he's played. Probably the most injury prone 'athlete' in the world. All this nonsense about we shouldn't have a go at him, how about I have a very good job that has a very good salary and I am unable to attend half the time because I constantly get very bad illnesses, that aren't my fault, Eventually my employer would be like your not fit for this job and its demands. That is life, it's easy enough as it is for playing footballers to earn that much money let alone ones sitting on the sidelines all the time. So please, understand that it's time to move on from Sturridge.

Agree1 Disagree8

27 Nov 2015 13:59:32
I have not slated him for his injuries. What I have said on many occassions is that at some point, the club will have to make a decision if they will continue to pay him for not playing or to cut their losses. If people think this is not a possibility then for sure, they are living in cloud cookoo land. This is professional sports and if you cannot stay healthy and produce on a consistent basis, my scenario will eventually come up. That is a fact and a reality of life so I suggest people get off their self-righteous horses and get with the program because I certainly have even tho, I love studge and want him to play and have a good career.

Well kman. Sturridge is not your employee, he is the club's and they will definitely be looking into this.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 15:09:48
@ coop - I understand the frustrations, of course I do, we want the best players available. But I don't think he warrants the volume of negativity being given either.

@ Kman92 - welcome to football: exorbitant wages, exorbitant prices. This is not Sturridge's fault nor is it his fault that his market value is as such. Not sure what him taking pictures on twitter/instagram has to do with anything - if he takes a picture of his new shoes does that mean he isn't trying hard enough? I don't know, I think you are making a big leap for the sake of your argument and I think the leap you have made has little relation to reality.

@ Redohio - you are right that the club will have to make a decision should this continue, I do not dispute that. I still don't see how a player having multiple injuries warrants abuse, especially as he conducts himself (to me knowledge) well off the field with both fans and fellow players. It's not like he is being Balotelli yet the abuse is just endless. I don't agree with it - nothing to do with me being on my high horse - I have simply never seen a player given so much abuse because they are injury prone. We've had other injury prone players before who never had this sort of vitriol directed at them, I don't understand it.

@ redohio - I have no qualms with people getting frustrated - we all want to see the lad back, i'm frustrated too! - but the abuse and negativity is just going way over board. I agree with your original comment though, if the injuries persist then a decision is going to have to be made as, given the wages/game time ratio, there will be question marks about money. At this time Sturridge still retains value - if he undergoes another 12 months of stop-start injuries? I suspect much of his value will have vanished. It is tricky, from a boardroom perspective.

@ Scottishdave - pretty sure he is teetotal, think he mentioned it in an interview a while back. And as for Carroll? LOL still by far the worst signing I have seen any team make - £35million, I will never get my head around it.

27 Nov 2015 11:57:11
Great to get the win and I really think Benteke is a great striker but he didn't quite have the movement or tricky interplay that we saw from LFC (Llalana, Coutinho, Firmino) against City, but then we shouldn't expect that from him. I would love to see him with Markovic back n the side.

Regarding Firmino, I feel he would perhaps have been more effective with someone alongside him who he could link with and feed off their movement/vision. Ibe and Milner aren't that, they're more traditional wide forwards IMO, and neither are Lucas or Allen in midfield (although even Allen almost looked Brazilian at one point juggling into the box on his chest! ) . Firmino didn't seem to quite have chemistry with anyone in particular on the night, but then maybe just an off night after a barnstorming City game.

I was pleased with how Allen performed. Still don't think he's what we need long term in our style of play (more of a possess specialist) but but well done lad and Lovren even played a couple of cracking cross field passes.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

27 Nov 2015 14:18:37
I was pleased with Allen as well and I one of his biggest critics. As for the game, it was not perfect but in a period where games are coming thick and fast, things won`t be perfect. I think we showed brilliance in flashes and remained compact and solid globally BUT we gave the ball away too easily along with making needless fouls. All in all, not great BUT job done. On to Swansea.

27 Nov 2015 14:35:33
I felt Allen was very average. Don't want to be too negative but feel Lucas and Allen both shouldn't play. Game becomes a little slow. don't want to be harsh though, maybe he can recapture his fast, crisp passes which lead to attacks.

Agree0 Disagree4

27 Nov 2015 16:41:12
Youre right, pankaj. Lucas and Allen in midfield has NEVER worked because they are both one paced even if Lucase is the better player. This is why our mid is more effective with lucas holding and a high energy guy like Can or Hendo ahead or alongside him.

27 Nov 2015 19:33:54

28 Nov 2015 02:56:02
I think the point was more about balance and Allen and Lucas shouldn't play together. I actually agree slightly as Lucas, Allen and Milner isn't exactly a dynamic midfield.

I would prefer a DM, A box to box and an attacking together for balance eg. Lucas/Milner/Llalana would have been more effective IMO and then could have played Ibe and Origi as wingers for Benteke, resting Firmino and Couts for Swansea but to be fair, debating semantics when we've won and gone through is a bit of a luxury!

Hi guys, does anyone else feel like maybe we should forget about Sturridge now and accept that he is no longer one of our striking options? For a while now I've constantly found myself thinking 'when Sturridge comes back things will be even better' etc. But in reality it's one injury after another, the guy is becoming dead weight, he's making a decent salary for sitting with his feet up doing the odd bit of training? Fair play he can't control it but feels like he's taking the piss a bit now, I've supported him throughout his time at Liverpool but this latest injury has done it for me. Time to get rid and move on. Either that, or ask him to take a new pay as you play contract, and if he's not willing to do that get him sold.

Sounds harsh and I doubt he'd take the contract but what else can we do? The lad is the most injury prone athlete I've ever known, and for that reason I don't think he is good enough for premier league football, not in terms of his ability, but in terms of his lack of availability.

Believable7 Unbelievable6

27 Nov 2015 11:49:15
To be fairly honest at the moment it is the best time for him to get his head down and focus on been fully fit. He is unstoppable at times when fit and with us having plenty to fall back on keep him in the shadows and let him get fully fit before entering him back into training.

Agree1 Disagree1

27 Nov 2015 12:09:09
I have to admit, I've been constant lay of the view 'have patience' but With this latest injury even I am now thinking if we can get him fit and performing and get a good 6-12 months it of him (so his transfer value isn't zero), it may be a good idea to trade for someone younger and more robust. He's devastating and its not the poor chaps fault, but you can't build a team around someone that's constantly off and m not sure he'll ever get back consistently fit.

Agree2 Disagree1

27 Nov 2015 12:30:28

27 Nov 2015 12:34:41
Am i right in thinking that his Dads career was cut short with injuries as well Ed002 or Ed001.

Its a tough on to call if he can get fit and stay fit then we all know what he can deliver the main thing is to keep him fit and we all know how hard that can be these days! Do we go out and buy another striker with ings out and origi not hitting the ground running or do we rely on benteke as much as possible even tho he is known to be quite injury prone himself? I know firmino can play back up but he does seem to prefer that number 10 role. tough decision ahead for Klopp. I hope that the injury is not to serious and he can come back sooner rather than later as we need sturridge and i can see him excelling even more under Klopp!

The other question is would his injury prone body even suit the high pressing and fast pace of what Klopp wants or will it take even more of a tole on his body?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what his father did for a living.}

27 Nov 2015 14:21:50
Ally, the final question you answered is the one nobody has answered yet. With a body like that, he will be useless in a gagenpressing system that requires A LOT OF WORK on and off the ball. if he can`t stay fit, then he can`t even play in that system when he is fit so again, what do you do?

27 Nov 2015 09:07:35
The Referees a wan*er chant summed it up for me last night. i'm still undecided if the migonlet incident should of happened, will he do that again most probably. Benteke was good last night and should of had two goals for me as the second one wasn't a foul at all.

Allen had a decent game, and i didn't see the need for Can to come on as he needed a rest.

What is going on with Sturridge people! so frustrating for us but it must be even more for him. Do we look at another striker in Jan in the possibility of shipping DS out in the summer or do we take the risk of trying to kepp benteke fit and hope that origi will improve. Thoughts on the sturridge comment is welcome! YNWA.

Can't see what the ref did wrong really.
Migs was completely at fault for that goal, first of all for holding into the ball for so long and secondly for his positioning for the resulting free kick.

like i said migonlet was at fault and shouldn't of kept the ball for 20 seconds but at the time i was like what is going on! the ref blew the whistle two times in that decision one given it to them and then changed his mind and gave it to us then gave it back to them! The referee was poor, Allen made two great challenges and the ref blew when the ball was clearly won. regarding the chant this was made half way through the second half as the decisions was completely going Bordeaux way and for nothing. The penalty was a penalty you don't put your arms around a playes head and throat when you know it can cause a penalty, so that comment was pointless irishkopite.

Agree3 Disagree2

27 Nov 2015 11:36:48
First half apart from the penalty which from my angle in the Anfield Road looked like a slip/incidental contact you see all the time (Ref seemed to look at the touchline official for clarification) I thought the officiating was rather good. I've been complaining about keepers holding the ball too long and often count them, for example vs Palace there was an incident of 23 seconds which wasnt punished. Mignolet in the second half held the ball over 6 seconds again by my reckoning. The ref also punished a foul throw which is something that we see week in week out in the Prem and its atrocious. He did however miss a couple other poor throws but then the game would have been stopped even more.

Benteke scored and played well for the other 'goals' but faded and should have been taken off. As for Joe Allen you need to see him off the ball, he nearly gifted them early on with a pass when he wasnt looking. I like Joe but he's just not suited to this new system he requires too much time on the ball and is often out of position, which is the worry for the weekend.

The chanting was just about the only thing the rest of the ground did last night apart from a strong YNWA at the end. The Kop tried to get the atmosphere going but far too many people at the game who don't sing or even know the words and again even winning there was the standard exodus from the ground before the final whistle. Klopp mentioned it in his manager notes that it is for the players to make us stay but what does it show him when we leave when we are winning.

I agree the decisions seemed to be all in their favour in the second half but I saw a lot of silly fouls due to fatigue from out team, no doubt one of the reasons Can came on. Still a win is a win.

JK57 is on the money. Ally, the rule is the rule and because it is not always enforced doesn`t mean it is no longer a rule. Holding the ball for 21 seconds is literally making a fool of the refree and Mingo got what he deserved and trust me, Klopp is taking notes of all his blunders especially the two he made in the same play. First, he stupidly gives away the free kick. Then, he stupidly stands behind the wall on the free kick instead of stand on the other side of the wall where the player placed the ball and scored. If I can figure that out, you better believe that Klopp saw these howlers as well.

I did not mean any player over 32 as experienced players mate. Someone who has been playing around for a while. Else it should have been either Ings or Origi.

{Ed001's Note - yes, still awaiting news.}

27 Nov 2015 07:19:45
Would be interested in hearing your take on this Eds. I'm beginning to think some of this is in Sturridge's head. Some players would play on with a limb missing whereas others feel every little knock. I'm not for a second saying he's faking it but i do get the impression there's a psychological factor at play here with him.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - there will always be a part of any injury in the head, but the club want to be careful with him as well. He has come through a long term injury and is way behind on fitness, that is always a dangerous time for the body. Before his injury, the training was a much lower intensity and so he was nowhere near the fitness levels required by Klopp. Trying to build up to that level is always going to run the risk of picking up these kind of issues. It just takes time to build up to full fitness.}

27 Nov 2015 08:27:13
Got to agree with Ed001 here. Nothing like the same level of fitness as a pro footballer of course but as at July 2014 I was at 48mins for 10k. I had surgery on my knee in Jan 2015 and even though I was walking in 2 weeks getting back up to anything like the same running speed has been a nightmare, mainly because I'm overcompensating for the left leg and putting more pressure on my right leg causing lots of leg/back niggles. Sturridge probably has similar issues, magnified many times over my issues!

Agree2 Disagree1

27 Nov 2015 08:28:35

27 Nov 2015 08:43:57
Sturridge will eventually come good but the team has other problems. Lucas is continuing to bleed yellow cards and we all know that blood is red and that is the next step and Mignolet still thinks that he is playing Rugby Union with his perfect kicks into touch. In that sport failing to release the ball is also an offence. I was disappointed to see Allen in the team yesterday as I still believe that he is not good enough especially as the team is now going in the right direction.

27 Nov 2015 12:52:45
ED001 do you think it's time to start altering his training sessions? From what I've read and seen in interviews Spurs and United did this regarding King and Ferdinand, where they almost reduced the training to nothing with regards to football, relying heavily on the players class and knowledge being retained and focused mainly on keeping them fit and healthy?
Spurs players have said in the tv show fantasy football with merson, that King often just did functional excercises and cardio upkeep, and maybe trained with the first team 10/20 times a year.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yes, I think that needs to be looked at.}

27 Nov 2015 12:55:42
With regard to allen, I have no idea what that backpass was to mignolet when he had to do that poor header, he panicked. I saw him give the ball away cheaply several times especially in dangerous areas, and shoot from 25 when Ibe sat at the edge of the D unmarked with several yards of space. That was mainly just the first half. Allen was NOT good yesterday. Lucas was certainly one of our better players on the field, and had a stormer covering for Joe, and made a lot of necessary fouls when Joe was no where near his man.

27 Nov 2015 21:28:01

27 Nov 2015 06:24:57
Positives yesterday, the result and Benteke (not just the goal and the penalty, had two other good finishes that were disallowed, probably rightly but a good sign in terms of finishing form) . Clyne and Moreno were ok as well most of the time. Negatives, more or less everything and everyone else.

Not much to add about Ming and the poor goal we conceded. The defence generally looked nervous and we were a bit lucky not to concede more.

Ibe and Milner, as ever, a lot of energy, have a lot of the ball and runs a lot but the final ball always always fails them. Unfortunately Firmino's final ball yesterday wasn't any better. Allen is Allen.

You would hope with Coutinho, and hopefully with Henderson, Sakho and Skertl we look better (I would have add Sturridge but unfortunately we will have to learn not to expect anything aout him) . But if we rest key players our level drop. No change there.

One meaningful cross and Benteke bangs it in. We need crossing to get the best out of Benteke.

Agree0 Disagree3

27 Nov 2015 13:01:16
Milner can cross, He actually put in several good balls yesterday, so did Ibe. We tended to play around the penalty area, and kept the ball on the ground, this is why they struggled when Ibe Firmino and Moreno linked up, they were constantly doubling up on Ibe again who was fantastic and everywhere.

We did as I said we should do and move the ball around and crossed when Benteke was free or we had a runner in at the back post, instead of just lumping it in and hoping which is the tactic you seem tow ant to go for. If you think Milner can't cross you never watched him at Newcastle Villa, City, or at any other point in his career.

btw 1 meaningul corss? Did you forget where the penalty came from, or when Benteke didn't go for Ibe's cross and Milner was just inches away from connecting at the back post, those are 3 off the top of my head.
