are we going to see Adojan and Texeria get a run out soon? there another 2 players who this system should suit. Or are they injured Ed?

Adorjan has been playing well for the academy/u21's and scoring. We may well see them before the end of the year should we progress in competitions.

I am pleased more people are being won around to BR, the fans chanting for him at West Brom were brilliant for doing so. I don't think that we have to spend massive amounts of money in January but a quality striker in the £15m range, give or take, would be nice.
McB

Last season, as bad as we did in the league I never heard anyone in the stands boo kenny or shout kenny out. That is because we understand the position we are in, we've been at the top and we know how hard it is to get there again. We are not a club ruined by money with no heart. Look at how many referee officials are against us, still we strive on with passion. Great fans, great city and great team

Personally, I think we should do everything we can to sign Cavani or Falcao. The only problem we have is putting the ball in the back of the net! If we sign a world class striker, we'll for sure shoot up the table. Huntelaar would be another quality option at a knock down price of around the £15m mark, as his contract is up come the summer. Although age isn't on his side. YNWA.. JFT96.. In BR we trust.. {Ed063's Note - They still wouldn't let him go fro 15mil. If someone is looking to sign Cavani or Falcao then they will be looking at a price tag of at least 60mil. Then ridiculous wages to boot. No way in hell is it feasible to sign them. Yesil is a pretty handy player, highly regarded in Europe as well.....}

Agreed another striker would be nice but the price is not important more the quality ie. Assaidi

Were in the relegation zone and people are chanting for Rodgers?

It must be for his head?

watched the game last nite guys...wow, iam so impressed and optimistic about these youngsters weve got coming through, i havent seen natural talent like this come through the ranks for years! for me i realy think suso has a very bright future( did you see him look across into the box when he passed the ball to see where sahin was, great awareness)
I realy hope all the negativity about rogers stops guys, surely you can see now, by the team he set out and how well they played that the man realy does know what hes doin and with time and patients, he will get it spot on. we were robbed with the manks, unlucky not too score against west brom and so so unlucky against man city ( last year skrtel would of pumped that ball up the line into the channel, he chose to try and keep the ball by giving it back too reina) the brendan rogers way, it was unlucky.
we need too get behind our great club and be proud to take a man like brendan rogers on too get us playing back to how we used to play our football and exite our fans. lets make anfield a fortress again and scare the rubbishe out of the away team and fans when the kop roars!it will be a bumpy ride but after seeing those kids last nite i get a real sense of the hunger and desire that has been missing from certain players over the years.......bring on the glory days.
i would realy like too know what Macca, the eds and you guys think.thankyou.

Hi Harry was it not Assaidi that laid it on for Sahin, Simonpw

That's not what he said. He meant that when suso passed to assaidi, he looked up to see where sahin was

When suso played it into assaidi suso looked immediately into the box. He knew where assaidi was going to play and was looking to see if anybody had made the run into the box.

I think he means when suso layed the ball off, instead of watching assaidi play the ball, he looked in the opposite direction across the box to see where sahin is, so i think hes referring to him instead of passing and admiring his own pass, he plays the ball then continue to look around.

Yes he meant after suso laid it off for assaidi

It was assaidi, I think poster meant after sumo released the ball to assaidi, he looked across to see if sahib had continued his run.only means this kid has good vision, and should be massive for us in time to come

It sure was Assaidi who put it on a plate for Sahin, but Suso was the one who initially went on the run. It was a great team goal!

hopefully next youngster to emerge in the first team
kristian adorjan.

I personally don't think he will get a chance, much like ngoo, he isn't really good enough for the first team. Perhaps he'll prove me wrong but he has Morgan,Yesil and Sinclair in front of him - all of which are younger.

Rodger the Dodger

I always felt adorjan was the best player in the youth set up at least the most suited to the PL but I just fear he is missing something in BR's eyes - might be his attitude or work ethic
But I am sure this kid will make it big even if it is not at LFC

Leam Red

Sinclair reminds me of ecclstone. Another player Blackpool bound. Yesil has a lot of potential and should be where he is in the squad. Morgan, although he does great for the u21 he would be out of depth in the first team (another Jay spearing situation). Ngoo and ajorian deserve a chance.

Isn't Adorjan a centre mid? {Ed063's Note - Attacking mid}

Evenin eds and fellow reds...

I have a question for eds002...

If lfc keep on playing badly in the prem, and worst comes to worst that BR is fired, who do you think would be his replacement??

Cheers, Jack {Ed002's Note - Way too early before asking for Super Stevie.}

"Keep playing badly in the prem" - What games are you watching?

Mike M

Jack thats twice in 2 days u have asked about br getting sacked, HE'S NOT GETTING SACKED get over it !!!

UCCM

Steve Wigley's free...

Ash

Rodgers needs to be given at a minimum 2 seasons to get this going. If you keep changing managers you are just spinning wheels. Hodgson lasted half a season, Kenny one full season. We need some stability no matter what.

No way should he be sacked. Christ. Exactly the sort of manager to bring these kids through and get them playing with confidence. I'm sure the owners have looked at how old bacon face did it and realised that a couple of below par seasons aren't going to hurt the long term future of the club.

rikdangerous

We've played some quality stuff under Buck, with the exception of the Arsenal game. Even if we have a poor season, I'd be willing to give him have another. You can see his vision coming to pass, and the progression the team is making you can see game by game. I for one am a very happy punter. He's lowered the wage bill dramatically and got rid of most of the so called big players who were under performing as well. He's giving our youngsters an opportunity to shine, which in turn will attract the better youth players in Europe. I haven't been this excited as a Liverpool fan since 08. YNWA.. JFT96.. In BR we trust..

Looking to put an early, lucrative bet on are we?

If BR were to leave his position (for any reason) in the very near future, the choice of coaches available to replace him would be shamefully short and seriously lacking in quality. That would probably be a nightmare scenario for us with the system being uprooted again and all the good work going to nothing. I would hazard a guess also that BR would be snapped up by a big club now that he's shown he can live with it. I really think sacking BR would damage us more right now than a terrible prem season would. My2cents.

Hi eds reds alike . I love what BR is doing he is not only giving our kids a real boost by playing so many in the first team but also kids around the world who we might be interested in bringing in . If they have the right attitude and will to succeed then there is every chance that they will become Liverpool first team players it proves this with yesil and assaidi ( who i know isnt that young ) . This is setting us up for a very bright future , one who in 1-2 years I think teams around the world will be sitting up and taking notice of . we need to keep hold of these kids and add some experience and we will be a force . I would be very happy with 8th again but another good cup run but seeing suso yesil sterling Assaidi wisdom Robinson Sinclair + others making an impact in the premier league then watch us next year . YNWA

Jamesy

Good shout. if you see that a club who is interested in you is going to give you a chance at a young age it could definitely sway your decision.

I am enjoying watching us play so much at the moment, I even found myself wanting west brom to score near the end just so I'd get another 30 mins. Odd thing to say but I had no doubts that we'd end up winning that game.

Mike M

Ha, I didn't want it to end either bro. We've had a really hard run of seasons as fans, watching our once mighty club in decline, but now we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. YNWA.. JFT96.. In BR we trust..

27 Sep 2012 20:53:38
With Sterling & Assaidi either side of him & Gerrard & Sahin around, Suarez will definitely pass the ball more because all of these players can go pass players with the ball at their feet. He doesn't have the same confidence when playing with Carroll, Downing, Adam etc. I think he can run off the ball a lot more now & score a lot more

Watch his play carefully. Suarez has many assists from between the 1/2 way line and the goal mouth, but he never passes when he has the ball in the final 3rd, ever. Same when playing for Uruguay. It's not a bad quality in his play, he just feels confident he can get himself into a scoring position every time, which he usually does.

But as we all know, his conversion rate is awful with him not passing to players in better positions. This is why his most effective position would be played either side of a striker. Right now we don't have one Brendan feels confident enough leading the line, so Suarez plays centrally, though I wonder if that will change come January. RC

While I agree that Suarez misses some opportunities to play early passes and sometimes runs into a cul-de-sac, I think the amount of positive attacking third passes he does make is highly underrated. I also believe that with players around him who he believes in, will make a lot of difference. I would have no issue with him playing wide were there a better option in the middle and while I think Borinin is capable of being this man, he is not there quite yet.

Andy K

Not to mention the number of panic-stricken defenders that will be sucked into his orbit every time he receives the ball.

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has drawn comparisons between the Reds' poor start to the season and Arsenal's stuttering beginnings last term, but says there is one key difference between the two sides.
Brendan Rodgers has overseen the worst Liverpool start in 100 years, with the Anfield club sitting in the relegation zone having claimed only two points from their opening five Premier League fixtures.
Liverpool's most recent defeat came at the hands of Manchester United last weekend with Robin van Persie netting the winner in a game the home side had dominated despite having 10-men.
Lawrenson, though, says Liverpool will continue to stutter unless they find a proven goalscorer and fast, and highlighted how Van Persie almost singlehandedly dragged Arsenal into the Champions League last season.

"In the aftermath of Liverpool's undeserved defeat to Manchester United, Brendan Rodgers pointed to Arsenal's poor start last season as reason for hope," Lawrenson wrote in the Liverpool Daily Post.
"That rather conveniently overlooks the fact Arsenal had a bloke called Robin van Persie playing up front for them at the time."
The Reds, adds Lawrenson, do not have someone of class of Van Persie or Barcelona's Lionel Messi to pull them through matches, and the Rodgers needs his midfield to contribute more.
"They need to do more," added the former Liverpool defender.

"They are almost on the cusp of supporters thinking 'we are playing nice, but we are not going to win'.
"But they need a goalscorer. Would Barcelona be anything like what they are without Messi? Would they heck.
"With no striker to hand, this is how it's going to be until January."

27 Sep 2012 21:34:16
Cant stand mark lawrenson after MOTD2 last sunday proppa muppet.

It's a very good point he makes, and I have to agree for the most part I agree with him. But there is a counter argument, Look at Spain in the euro's, exactly the type of football BR wants to play and they often used no forwards at all.
Anyway have faith, Suarez and the kids will score, and the problems they will give defenders will create space for the midfielders anyway.

As great a defender as Lawro was, he is a clown. He almost comes across sometimes like he has an ati-Liverpool agenda. The other thing that is different between Liverpool and Arsenal is we have a new manager and it will take more time. We will most likely not end up as high as Arsenal last year however that is not really the point of this year for us and shouldnt be the expectation. I dont get the comparrison to Messi at Barcelona either. Pointing out that we need a striker isnt exactly the most genius piece of punditary.

Andy K

Mark lawrenson was a great player for us but he's a knob an so anti liverpool these days its unbelievable! I remember last season he said on football focus that alex ferguson was the greatest manager ever in english football even ahead of shankly and paisley! No kopite would ever say that!

Sorry but Spain won the euros not to long ago without playing a striker most of the time. So Barcelona would still win without messi just not as prolific. Liverpool do need a recognised senior striker though.

Lawro is a mufc fan need I say more

Chris r

I've said this for a long time now and I'm not the only one; why does anybody listen to what Lawrenson says?

The man is an anus.

I am incapable of watching MotD because he or Lineker will ALWAYS ruin it. If I really must see it due to time or whatever, I turn the sound off.

It's not just that, it's a really poorly constructed programme with the "pundits" agenda-driven views taking the place of facts or even reasonable debate points.

What would happen if one of his "expert opinions" managed to slip through my filter and into my own understanding of things?

I would have to end it all and start watching tennis...and man do I hate tennis.

Then Andy k mate Rogers himself shouldn't compare Liverpool situation to Arsenal. He talks like we are top in league he always forgets we are bottom 2 in league

27 Sep 2012 20:24:41
Just watching the game from last night. Happy with the way they are performing.
I dont know about anyone else but the capital one cup means nothing to me, would love to see BR play this team, or similar all the way through this competition.
My team versus norwich:
--------------------Reina------------------
------------coates---------skrtel----------
--------------------------------------------
--johnson-----------------------enrique--
-----------sahin-----henderson-----------
--------------------------------------------
------------------gerrard------------------
----------assaidi----------sterling--------
--------------------------------------------
------------------suarez------------------

Full backs providing crosses, wingers cutting inside and playing through balls. Sahin and henderson playing a more defensive midfield role, both beautiful distributers.
Gerrard playing an attacking role allowed to roam left to right and in front and behind the wingers. Also not sure if allen is fit but replace henderson with allen.

Subs: jones, carragher, allen/henderson, downing, suso, pacheco, ??

You forgot joe allen

majestic69

Replace henderson with allen

I would replace Enrique with Wisdom, Johnson LB Wisdom RB, Henderson on bench, Allen starting with Assaidi and Suso on bench too.
McB

And Enrique with either Robinson or wisdom :)

SideShowBob

You might replace Hendo with Joe Allen , put Johnson at left back , Wisdom at right back , then put Sterling on the right , and Assaidi on the left , and were sorted ,
redforever .

Replace coates with Carra

Has anybody else noticed the younger the average age of our squad (ie the more youngsters we have starting) the better they play "brendans way"?
If brendans still here in 5 years time these players will be an unbeatable machine. Possession stats of 70% and pass success stats of 95%. A scouse barcelona. Stirling can be our iniesta, suso can be our messi and Allen can be our xavi.
I know I'm being optimistic but these players will be great.
I know we always seem to be in transition but for the first time in as long as I can remember we can see what the goal is and the players who will get us there.

MIKEY

If senior team not bring good result then play young team

And David Villa can be our Villa!

27 Sep 2012 22:52:53
Totally agree, however at the same time, wouldn't want to become the "new Arsenal" becoming a Man City feeder club

Pablo

I'm all for optimism and glass half full thinking, but Suso will not be our Messi, thats a tad silly. If he can develop fully, he's david silva/fabregas mold at best, which I'm sure would make everyone happy. RC

We need an emile heskey mate before we get ahead of ourselves.
derryred

Comparing Arsenal to us is ridiculous, we are Liverpool FC! The stature of the club, the history, tradition, the optimism and pride of the fans.. Brendan will instil this into the young lads, I'm sure. YNWA.. JFT96.. In BR we trust..

27 Sep 2012 19:49:28
I would like to admit i may have got it wrong about Brendan.Im starting to be won over by not only by the style of play and how he is bringing the younger players on,but how he handles the press and being our leader really makes me proud he is our manager. All we can hope is we start to get a wee bit of luck in the future cause we have played alot better than our postion suggests. So give him some funds FSG and watch us go.

For those familiar with twitter you will know the term "trending". Well next to Rogers/B.R/Brandon the buzz words seem to be Suso and Sterling. Every third or fourth post includes either or both of them.

Cant remember the last time two youngsters generated so much excitement. You throw in Wisdom, Shelvey, Yesil, Coates and who ever we sign in futurue

Britney Spears?

That's a silly comment - we can't afford Brittney

Carlton Cole perhaps?

Heard from a friend close to our new scouting team that the club is aiming to out bid the main competetion for the best U18 talent in world football and that at least 30% of the available transfer funds will be initially allocated for this pupose over the next 2 windows.

JSU

........................................................................

I dont see why we would pay for the best young players in the world when we already own them :)

Ask west brom's 1st team

TBH id love to see a scouser break through i no spearing aint good enough so hoping Robinson gets 1st team regular within 1/2 years.

Best fans/players in the world FACT lol

27 Sep 2012 17:30:24
What is the situation with Danny Wilson? Surely he should be getting game time sooner than later. A left footed defender who has a pass in him. Clearly development has been stagnated by lack of game time. About time he was played in games like yesterdays in place of Carragher.

I don't think he really is good enough, although time will tell. My BiL (season ticket holder at Rangers) thought we had bought a real gem.

Keith

Stephen Sama's sudden progression means he could by next year be Carra's readymade replacement, meaning Wilson left out in the cold sadly. I'd like a Scottish centre back in LFC just as a throwback to our previous great scots, but I think Sama along with Wisdom are bigger prospects. RC

Wilsons attitude is awful. He thinks he's far better than he is. For that reason, I'm out.

Great perfomance from the young guns last night. Anyone else notice how much easier they seemed to actually hit the target than the 1st team? 9 of 14 shots might have gone in. Maybe we should get the 1st team to train with them rather than the othe way around?

Iggypop

Just thought you should know,the young guns is the name given to the young arsenal players mate,the gunners = young guns {Ed001's Note - just thought you should know, young guns is nothing to do with young Arsenal players whatsoever. They just took an existing expression and used it to refer to their young players.}

Hi Eds, isn't it correct there is little value in the market in Jan and that few targets are available until the summer.
I said it before, kids given chance and some will come through saving a fortune in fees. I don't expect any arrivals in jan.
And missing out in Dempsey who yes is decent but no worldly has opened up the chance to see the kids.
Looking good for us

won't comment on terry verdict but about mulumbu's wild tackle on henderson. it was so much worse than jonjonjo's yet the wba didn't even get a yellow card. surely the fa should do something about the inconsistencies in decision making?

Imo the whole Refreeing fraternity is against us i.e.LFC.in a way they are letting us know how they'll make our life difficult by not giving decisions in our favor.
holy_red.

Maybe we should all get over it and look forward to the next game.

MIKEY

My opinion is that our players would rather get on with it rather than rolling round on the floor like a fish out of water. For example, the 50/50 Shelvey got the red card for, he got straight up and went after the ball whilst the other player rolled about. And, if Henderson had rolled about crying last night and our players had made a bigger deal of it to the ref, then the player maybe would have received a card. We just seem to get on with it, which I prefer TBH.
Just my opinion anyway.

Ed,

I did not get to watch the match but I just saw the highlights on footyroom.com. OMG the second goal was a fantastic effort. I hope Suso gets more playing time this season as he is beginning to come of age.

Fantastic effort by the lads. I hope we can recreate the form on Saturday against Norwich and claim the first prem victory that has eluded us so much this year.

O'seunfunmi (Anfield Red)

27 Sep 2012 15:35:52
as a non liverpool fan you guys have to be miffed with the terry verdict as he should have got the same penalty {Ed002's Note - Each case has to be judged on it's own merits. Making irrational comparisons will always end in tears. Better just to forget it and move on.}

27 Sep 2012 15:48:23
Why should we care, we have all moved on from Suarez and John Terry completely irrelevant to LFC

Agree with poster and with Ed002! It does seem a bit ridiculous when you look at the language used by both players - surely Terry's was more offensive?! But at the same time we're never going to get those 8 games without Suarez back so time to look forwards

Lets just accept that the FA are a joke of an institution and move on.

I heard Rodgers has been given about £15m to spend in January and he hopes he can get rid of Cole and Downing and get £10m. Rodgers is a long term admirer of Walcott and Isco.

And they won't be coming

We have no chance of isco r these standard players as of yet, these players want to play champs lge,and win trophies,we are not at that level yet, anyway maybe its not to bad a thing after seeing these young lads coming through because big name players coming in 'if we could get them in 1st place'we put the young lads back and they look real special to me.rd

27 Sep 2012 14:06:40
Is there any interest in Gary Hooper? I thought we should gave gone for him when he left for Celtic. He does have a good eye for goal ( yes I know it is only the SPL) and movement, I think he would fit in the current system.

This lad could easily do well in epl he does score regular it might only be spl,but he does score alot up there and i dont see why he couldn do it down here, not saying he is a larsson, now but he is young 24 i think, lets see how he goes in chp lge again better standard team.i think he do alot better than borini.ray

27 Sep 2012 14:04:57
I can't believe Ngoo hasn't played yet, he looks miles ahead of the likes of Morgan, Sinclair and Yesil.

So you know better than brendon who sees him everyday at training.you can only push so many youngsters thru at a time,i'm sure his time will come shortly

I think Rodgers has proven beyond question that if you're good enough then you're old enough and you'll get your chance. I like Ngoo and think he will do well playing in Rodgers style of football. Fortunately, he'll have some big games in the Nextgen and U21 to show his quality.

SpudRed

Sorry but if you think ngoo is miles ahead of morgan etc then you clearly have no idea! He looks ok but that is all. Never better than the others
LeeWils

To be fair he has been oustanding in pre season and U21 so far... really stepped his game up after injury and a so so last season... I think he'll get a chance soon, he's different from all the others.

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if Morgan is injured? He featured in the Europa but now Sinclair is playing. Can't imagine Rodgers doesn't favour him as he seemed to like his work ethic.
Thanks in advance.
LittleT

He might like his attitude but that doesn't mean he is good enough for Liverpool. I think what he is doing is showing people that if you have the right attitude you have a chance and the younger players will then learn from this attitude.

27 Sep 2012 17:29:44
Well Morgan looked like a better player against Hearts than Yesil did against WBA, to be honest.

There'll be more games to try both though.

- Something Red -

Allowing for Yesil needing time to come up to pace, he should have scored 1 and maybe could have got a second. He worked hard, added a nuisance value. I thought he did ok. Morgan has some good qualities too but I can see something in Yesil.

Hey its Thursday now and Brenden still hasn't singled Carragher out for his weekly arse kissing :o

Guy Smiley

You'r a disgrace, this man with gerard has been the driving force behind lfc for years and deserves a bit of respect from a crettin like you

I know what you mean but he was singled out in today's press conference

Carra is very useful to BR and BR knows it
Carra owns the dressing room and keeps the Lads in check
Although Carra looks past it on the pitch he is key to making sure the transition to the BR era is a smooth one

Just ask AVB about peeing off long serving senior players when u arrive at a big club

Carragher gives LFC a lot so give him respect.

After last night,s performance a big shout out to the supporters. What a good turn out and the support for the team was brilliant. The kids on the park needed that. Takes me back to the late 60s with that kind of support.

Excellent post, i thought the support last night was amazing!

Great to see the kids doing well last night. It's a good sign for the future from all angles. One thing though, how deep does our academy run? Looking on LFC official site we've now heard of and even seen in first team action a lot of the players listed.
People talk about our academy being excellent, but I take it we have U16s, U15s etc emerging at a similar skill level to the likes of Suso, Sterling etc? I'd hate to think we're using our secret weapon now i.e this crop of talented youngsters, and then fail to keep it rolling.

I'm sure I'm showing my naivity about the academy here, but it would be interesting to get some insight. Thanks

It's an ongoing project. The academy people are looking for, and to develop, the best young talent. All ages hoping to produce the best players either to play in the first team or sell and get the best price for.
Robbie

Yep, watch out for: Olawayesi Ojo, Jordon Ibe, Jordan Lussey, Jack Dunn for the time being. Maybe the Eds can name more? These guys are all between 15-17, any younger than that i.e u-15 and they are much harder to spot. Think 18 months for this quartet, mate.

Ryan Mc Laughlin too

O'hanlon, Baio, Teixiera, Pelosi, Trickett-Smith, Sama, Roddan, to name a few that'll bear watching over the next 18 months in addition to Ibe, Dunn, McAlves, Lussey, and Ngoo already mentioned.

Malaga will offer isco a new contract,in order to fend off liverpool. The player currently has a buy-out clause of around £16m.

No chance of him coming to Liverpool, London looks like his destination

Isco is no better than Suso, why hault Suso's progress by spending 16 million on a similar player?

Gerrard is not a striker. Can people please stop insisting that he should play there. As he gets older he is moving towards the defensive midfield side of the team not the running around like I am an eighteen year old end of the team.
Square peg, round hole.
McB

Rafa said once Gerrard gets older his natural position will be striker.. I agree, also I think Gerrard is wasted if he isn't banging in the goals..

You're right he's not a striker but I don't want to see him playing as a DM. If he can't perform as an attacking midfielder anymore then I'm afraid it's the bench.
I believe he can still play that role by the way

He got player of the year playing the "Rooney" role behind torres.. Its obvious he should be somewhere in the front 3? Or at least give it a go for a game or two see what happens?

The "Rooney role"??
WTF

Rooney plays the gerrard role not vice versa

I am very optimistic about the future of Liverpool FC. I have caught most of the games on the box and am very happy with the style of play the Brendan is making us play. I'm not too downhearted by the start to the league. It was certainly a difficult start with WBA away right up for it and showing in the next couple of games that they are good, except for a couple of mistakes and we would've beaten city, Arsenal have proved yet again they are a good team, Sunderland away is never easy and less said about the refereeing against United the better.

And all this with a new style of play, blooding youngsters and not an out and out goalscorer in the team. I think we can go on a run now, building confidence and do an Arsenal from last year.

The youngsters are coming into the team and playing well because the reserves and youth teams play the same style so it more natural to them than the more senior players in the squad. But the older players will learn soon enough and if they don't they will be shipped out.

Roll on the next 30 odd league games and watch us climb the table.

Gazza

That is exactly the point Gazza. The reserves and academy have frequently played the 4-3-3 style favoured by Rodgers for several years - Rafa's legacy. Even Pacheco - usually a damp squib, looked like he fitted in. RED LENIN

Anyone else sick of stewie downing and his below par performances?.The guy has been totaly eclipsed by sterling and suso this season.Assaidi who is new to the league, and the country has shown he is already a better player than our £20m winger. We really need to ship him out in january,as he doesn't even deserve a place on the bench.I know if and when he's sold we'll take a big loss on him,but it's time to take a financial hit and get rid.

I have to say i think Downing has been one of the biggest flops to wear our shirt for many a long year.

cobra

And people goin 2 blame benitez for that, at least give him credit from wot we got on our academi.

Why would people blame benitez for downing being crap?

pd

I think stewy downing is really harry kewell in disguise !!

Harry was a good player when fit downing just scared and useless

He was great for Leeds but didn't really do what he was capable of while he was with us. Nice guy and very talented player who suffered with a string of injuries.

I don't see a selection dilemma in midfield. We all know what Lucas brings but he can't be considered a starter right now as he will need plenty of time to hit full form again. Considering that & the top quality performances that Allen has been putting in makes it clear that Allen should start. Gerrard looks like he is in top form & he is our leader & should be a starter. Sahin will prove himself & let's see if last nights game is a sounding of the alarm for him. Gerrard Allen Sahin for me & if they can gel quickly then one would be hard pressed to find another midfield like this. Lucas can be slowly brought back & Shelvey/Suso can be brought in from the bench. I rate Henderson but I don't see him displacing any of these midfielders. SLODGE

eds any chance of ola toivonan as i remember one ed said last summer he is very likely to sign and any chance of aron johnasson
starred {Ed002's Note - I don't know of interest in Toivonen right now and I don't know which Ed told you he was "very likely" to sign. Aron Johannsson, again, I know of no interest from Liverpool.}

27 Sep 2012 10:15:33
Hi eds,

Do you think Carra will be offered a new contract? It has to be time to replace him even though he has been a great player for us. I read the club are going to give him a new deal but surely his massive wages could be spent more wisely.

Thanks

Red raj {Ed002's Note - If he decides not to retire I suspect a one year deal will be offered at the end of the season.}

Carra should wake up realize he can do more for Liverpool in some form of a coaching setting. He can complete his badges then in the future win the league with is our manager.

27 Sep 2012 10:05:44
I think Assidi is now going to replace borini in the first team position 1. Cause he's for a injury? 2. Cause he can play in that position so much better! I don't get why br plays him there instead of assadi but don't get me wrong I think borini will be another great youngster for us but I think he needs to start playing in the europa to get his confidence up. Also we played amazing again last night just this time with a result so excited about our youngsters! Also read down the whole page where all the trolls gone? It's like Jekyll and Hyde on this site

Assaidi played excellent last night. He,s a winger....Borini isn,t, and until Borini starts being played in his proper position, we won,t see the best of him!

27 Sep 2012 10:39:43
I only caught the second half last night but was very impressed by the youngsters. Assadi looks a genuine talent with a bagful of tricks. I think it's only a matter of time until he is a regular. Coates played well and should start on Saturday ahead of Carragher. Any confirmed news on Agger's injury Eds? Wisdom looked good again too, looks like he has been playing right back for year! Sahin looked composed in the middle, worked hard and must start ahead of Hendo. Downing dissapointed again..how many times does the lad give the ball away! Looks so low on confidence. Pacheco looked lively and Suso was excellent when he came on and made an incisive run to help engineer the second goal! Suso looks full of confidence at the moment and I would continue to play him. If I was a premiership manager I would be seriously worried, as we have an immense crop of talent emerging. It's crucial BR keeps faith with the youngsters and gives them opportunities ahead of some of the more experienced players, several of which are simply not delivering. In 2-3 years LFC will have a formidable team once again...YNWA

One word about the match............. Wow. Even if we would have lost I still would of been happy with the performance. Was screaming at Jones early in game but thought he came into his own. Too many performance to name but my personal stand out was Wisdom. I can't believe how assured and technically good the boy is. People have been raving about him on here and I have to agree. Some one commented that he was like Richards but with more ability and I disagreed with their comment. Only to the fact that I never believed it possible with Wisdom so young. I apologise to that man.
I have said to my mate, who is Spurs fan that I do not care where we finish this year. Obviously I wont be happy as a fan but we are rebuilding from the bottom. I could babble on for ages but I wont. Im ecstatic. Once we get that first few wins I'm sure these boys will smash teams. They will not let up.

The future's bright, the futures LIVERPOOL FC.

In Brendan I Trust.

Tel

p.s I'd start Jones next game just to shake Pepe up.

Wisdom has much better positional sense than Richards had at 19 - and he is better than Jon Flanagan, so i would expect him to make it!

In brendan I despair

My gem of the season so far........Raheem Sterling, please don't "over hype" this kid like we did with Walcott and many others did with the likes of Wright-Phillips, Bently, Agbonlahor etc

DB.10

27 Sep 2012 10:54:47
For me, it has to be Suso - this boy has vision, pace and a real confident air about him. His football shows years ahead of his age. The next Fabregas, IMO. Singred

Agree that sterling is a gem but he is ENGLISH you know no matter what potential hes got but hype will always follow him. My eyes are all on suso .....mann this kid is awesome so calm, technically good, pacy, down to earth . I see him as a class act in coming years.
REDistani

Suso and Sterling need to both sign contracts and soon as they are now very much in the shop window. Lets hope they want to stick with the mighty reds as BR has put his faith in them.

MAybe the sheik will buy them for christmas and stick them in the reserves for another 3 or 4 years

27 Sep 2012 09:15:30
Ed I'm interested in your opinion on Henderson, espacially playing in the middle. I think the Lad could turn out to be a good player, and in close season BR seemed to suggest he rated him, so could you clear things up a bit.
Where other teams interested in him when we signed him? ( United )
Do you think BR really doesn't rate the lad?
Or do you think BR has to sell to strengthen and he just happens to play in a position we are strong in and can bring in some money? {Ed063's Note - I have always rated Hendo very highly. He is extremely athletic, has a great touch, great stamina and fitness, very mobile, and very rarely gives the ball away. I'm not sure if Rodgers rated him but I believe he may be starting to force his way into Rodgers plans because he has been excellent this season.}

Hmmm ed getting excited, no way has henderson been excellent thats why he dont trust him to start in the premiership. RedTurk {Ed063's Note - No not at all. Its just Shelvey has been better so far. But with him now out it is between Hendo and Sahin for Shelvey's spot. I'd give it to Sahin but Henderson is immensely talented}

Agree 100% Ed, not sure why people are suggesting sell him to ba honest?
He's very young, a full international, and the only real problem was that he was played out of position last season.

Redturk aren't you a lovely little ray of sunshine? Do you care to explain why henderson hasn't been excellent thus far in this campaign? He played really well last night against a premiership team, along with sahin dominated the midfield area, very rarely gives the ball away and works his socks off. Played well against young boys and also played well for england u21's. So come on lets hear your reasoning!

Ian the red

If you read br's comments before west brom game about henderson you will understand why unless he changes quick time, hes not getting games. He was talking about henderson being more attacking, but really apart from running around he doesnt offer much, his place could be better used by a better player like suso or better technical attacking player. Henderson didnt do much last nite to dispell what rodgers wants from him, sideways and backwards from henderson. RedTurk

I think Henderson could play where Allen is now playing. Allen is currently playing where Lucas was supposed to be.

Gerrard - Allen
Henderson

or

Allen - Sahin
Henderson

Kaizer

Sideways and backwards? funny that im sure he played two forward balls to set shelvey up twice against young boys! could be my imagination though.

Ian the red

^^^ Actually he played sideways to put Shelvey thru for the 1st goal agains Bsc young boys. Thing is he was all the way forward in the opposition 18 yard box when he did. :-)

It'll be really exciting to witness this crop of Brendan's boys staying together and driving our club for the next 3 - 4 seasons towards the Premiership ala fergie's fledglings. However, I hope Brendan will not only guide them properly, but also protect them, because it is just as easy to fade away like so many before them. Singred

I don't know why people think Walcott will sign just because he supported Liverpool as a kid. If he gets a good deal and plays more up front for the Gunners, he will snap their hand off. I can't see us making big signings in Jan either as that would be an admission of fault in not signing anyone (of note) during the summer. I think BR will probably have a couple of unkowns lined up with maybe another loan signing. Would be interesting to see where the club stands on Carroll by Jan though.

Hi all - great performance by the Kop Kids yesterday. Looks like BR's philosophy is beginning to take shape.

Trying not to get too carried away as league results and luck (woodwork, ref decisions, etc.) continue to confound us .... Would be satisfied if we could get 8 points in the next 5 games and begin to move up the table.

Top 4 unfortunately does not seem a realistic expectation this season ... Nonetheless excited to be an LFC fan!

I would like to take the chance to praise all the youngsters that played recently, injuries gives them chances to play, not to mention Brendan's believe in the youngsters. But all this talk of our academy being good would not happen if they did not take their chances, and my have they took it well.

take note other youngsters, Brendan is watching you! haha.

Of course it was the work of our past managers and coaches, but if the youngsters themselves did not step up on this occasion, we would be talking about so many different things. so credit to them. well they do say the academy's investments will come to fruit, and so far, it is looking good.

Now onwards to Norwich game!

Well yet again i put my foot right in it - yesterday I mentioned we hadnt seen much from Sahin and asked the question how long it would be before he started to play well. Well last night my question was answered.

Also as i stated i think our young players are excellent, and a real boost for the whole team shows what great work the Academy have done over the years especially Borrell and we have a lot to thank Rafa for his restructuring of the Academy.

Excuse me cribbing this from the BBC but one good point from our wonderful youngsters is how many are English

Andre Wisdom: 19-year-old
Jack Robinson: 19-year-old
Jon Flanagan: 19-year-old
Martin Kelly: 22-year-old
Jonjo Shelvey: 20-year-old
Jerome Sinclair: 16-year-old
Raheem Sterling: 17-year old

So not only do we have the best crop of academy youngsters breaking in the 1st team but possibly half the England team over the next few years

Yeah i might actually watch some england games for a change

Henderson could be added to that list as well.
JohnBoy

Carroll could be added to that list too.

I dont care where there from, just that there liverpool players.
Grobbelar, Hanson, Lawrenson, Nichol, Dalgleish, Rush, Souness, Beglin, Molby
Theres a good argument that the less English players we have the better our team has been?

Brucie and Kenny don't spell their names like that!

Henderson and Coady can be added to that list!

Can help but think what our B team would be if we had Carroll as our front man. Obviously it's great that yesil Morgan Pacheco and eventually ngoo get their chances. But I think we would perform better in the domestic cups with Carroll especially in Europe. Hope we recall in jan. {Ed063's Note - Yesil is better than Carroll mate, he is exceptional.}

Both have their own strengths, now, i like Carroll as a player, but it is best if he goes, he will not fit in here at Liverpool, but he can be some player for England. we have a player in Yesil.

Kaizer

At soon as Yesil blossoms if he does he's going back to the fatherland to join Sami

We should be looking at players from the Motherland {Ed063's Note - Why would he leave Liverpool to re-join Leverkusen? Even though there is a buy back clause, Yesil still has to agree to move and I highly doubt he would}

Why would Yesil go back to German lets see:

He's german
His family are mostly in germany
His friends are mostly in germany
He could probably earn more there than at LFC
The clause in his contract may force force him back to germany (who knows)
He may have a german wife or girlfriend in the future that wants to go home
He may become homesick
He may miss real german Sausages
He may sign a deal with a german company that would like him to play in germany

I could go on but I think you have enough reasons there to start with {Ed063's Note - No, no, no , no , no. In EVERY buy back clause the player MUST agree to return. You cannot force a player to move to a club. It is ultimately his decision. He would not have signed for Liverpool if he didn't want to be here.}

Morgan is plain for everyone to see isn't good enough. Thats why he has been overlooked and Chances have been given to Sinclair and Yesil

heres a question for us fans , its a bit of a dielema really , the way suso has been playing when he has come on the pitch , especially tonight would any of you play suso in front of gerrard , because for me he should play every game this season which would help him get better , because in the middle we have --suso--gerrard--allen--and sahin , who would be dropped out of them 4 , as i said it a dilema , but the way we played tonight showed we can play without stevie , lucas and henderson , downing should never play for us again ,for an england international he was poor again , well done to all the rest of the team , you made us proud , just maybe teams will be weary of playing a team full of kids so they dont end up with egg on their faces {Ed063's Note - Gerrard was excellent against United so deserves to keep his place. For now Suso should remain as a super sub which will also allow him first team football. But pretty soon he will be starting week in week out like Sterling is.}

Id play gerrard as the lone striker, with suso in midfield.. Gerrard is the best finisher we have..30goal a season if he played there - guaranteed!

I agree with Edd 100%

Tel

Did no one see that Suso cost us the united second goal, he played a crossfield pass to a utd player

Imagine if Gerrard or Carra did that there would be condemnation of the highest order and they would be flogged at dawn by some on here

Double standards or what?

From what I seen of Suso last week he looked like a rabbit caught in headlight glare and should not be anywhere near the first team for a long time yet, his time has not yet come

Rodgers is only playing the kids cause Henry is too mean to buy players and we'll get nothing this season, stone me, you don't have to be mystic meg to work that one out!

Yes lets play Suso against Hazard, Mata or Oscar and see what happens when we entertain chelsea

Were looking for inspiration but we are only Clutching at straws

Time to get real FFS

Its like the emperors new clothes too many are admiring something that aint there

The Bells {Ed063's Note - He is a kid and will make mistakes. He also set up our goal if you didnt see. Plus he played the ball to Agger who tried to flick it instead of just punting it. If he had launched it long United wouldn't have scored.}

The Bells, youse such a sour puss. and it wasn't a crossfield pass, it was just a pass to Agger which like the Ed sed, tried to flick it but had a bad touch. Have a little bit of faith, laddie, the kids were great! Kudos to Carra for coaching them on the pitch. Next up, Swansea! Lets see whose expensive football is better.

RedKei

If Suso is a kid that will makes mistakes should he be in the first team?

Carra is "an old man" who makes mistakes no one wants him.

So whats the difference both make mistakes?

The pass to agger crossfield or not dsepending on your view put agger under pressure no doubt about that and thats what led to the second goal for Utd
like it or not!

If Carra did that what abuse he would get.

So you don't want people in the team that make mistakes that lead to goals, so far this season that would mean no Reina, Skrtel, Gerrard, Suarez, Agger. All of whom who have contributed to goals conceded this season either directly or indirectly via passing.
It is time for the kids to get a chance in the first team but at a gradual pace and introduction. Without first team experience and that gained when making a mistake, they would never be ready and we may as well shut the academy down now.
Patience is tough for a lot of you fans out there isn't it.
McB

That is not my point at all (of not wanting people in the team that make mistakes)

My point is when Carra makes a mistake its highlighted to the max when others make mistakes it goes un noticed hardly seems fair, does it?

Hey guys, man utd fan coming in peace.

Just wanna say you lot gave us a proper footballing lesson last weekend. If it weren't for Shelvey's red we probably would have been thrashed 3-0 or maybe even 4-0. We were horrendous in the first half and were completely outplayed in every aspect. I gotta admit that I was delighted when that bald bloke of yours got sent off. It saved the game for us. To be honest, I thought Evans went in 2 footed as well, the only thing was that he moaned in pain but I wasn't so sure it was for real. Seemed a bit like play-acting to me :p

And yes, the penalty was soft, but hey, I'm not complaining. We struggled to beat a 10-man team who deserved to win. I can't remember ever feeling this way for any of our previous matches. So credit to you lot and your manager who seems to know his stuff. His footballing philosophy is brilliant, makes me kinda wish Fergie retired earlier and we hired BR instead. But he's never gonna come to man utd now is he?

I watched the wba game as I couldn't understand how a team playing so well like liverpool were languishing in the relegation zone. And that was one of most amazing and impressive performance I've ever witnessed by such a youthful team.

You lot have a lot upcoming stars in your academy. If I'm not wrong, pep guardiola himself said that was the 2nd best academy beind barca's. I'm starting to see why. That spanish fella of yours, susu is it? He looks like a combination of silva and gerrard of old (2005-2009). Unbelievably good. And a few of your other youngsters look immense. Wisdom, robinson and coates not to mention sterling and shelvey who can be hot-headed and rash ha. And the moroccan dude is fantastic, who is he anyway?

Watching that match made me wish we had an academy like yours. We have a couple of proising youngsters but unfortunately fergie wont throw them into the deep end and give them a run out like BR. Oh well.

Anyway, i think the future for you lot looks real bright and hopefully we'll put up a better fight and old trafford. I wonder who fergie is gonna employ this time. Halsey or webb? So until then, I'll enjoy seeing you guys being in the relegation zone while it lasts. Haha

RVPDAMIEN {Ed063's Note - Sorry to be cynical but no way is this actually a united fan}

Why waste your time to be so pathetic as to impersonate another teams fan. SHOCKING.
You're no different to any other troll. Just have the balls to come and applaud/support the boys. A Man Utd fan dont need to tell us for us to believe it even more.
YOU ARE A BELLEND

Was that Ticky Tacky that we witnessed in the lead up to the second goal?

Jack the Groove

Firstly, it's tiki-taka, and secondly I wish people would stop going on about it. LFC have been playing quick pass and move football since 1959 this is nothing new.

Except under Roy when we played 'Hoof and Hope' football that is.

Not seen tonight's game yet due to timing differences, but after seeing us out play the Mancs Sunday, can we safely say the team are starting to click? Results to follow..Starting against Norwich.

Got some real positives to take from our last few games, our young players were great against Young Boys, our ten players were only beaten by the red against the and superb display against West Brom tonight...i think BR is doing some great work with our beloved reds. We all knew his plan would take time to work, but already were seeing signs of what we could potentially be. We have a potentially world class squad to come through over the next few seasons, with Sterling, Suso, Yesil, Coates, Robinson, Kelly, Wisdom, Shelvey, Hendo etc. Our season will get better, we've got 3 of our hardest home fixtures out the way, there's no way we'll be relegated. I actually think we'll do pretty well. Can see us struggling to get top 4, but I don't think 5th will be out the question. Can see City struggling to replicate last seasons form, and Spurs are having a hard time of it. Here's my prediction

1)Chelsea
2) Utd
3) City
4) Arsenal
5) Liverpool
6) Spurs
7) Everton
8) Newcastle

Cheers guys

No way we'll be fifth

You do know were in the relegation zone

Remember Arsenal last season? Also, when Roy was with us, we were in 17th at one point. We've had 5 games for fowler's sake, get a grip!

We were in the relegation zone when we were under roy and that was at christmas. Rmember the 3-1 loss at blackburn? Kenny took over for the rest of the season and we finished 6th. Anything is possible. Its just a shame you dont believe in the team like you ought to

Ian the red

To add to that point Ian, we were in 17th at Christmas, but also for the rest of the season we still made a few silly mistakes and lost point where we shouldn't have. We could still finish top 4, however we would have to be really consistent, have no more injuries or suspensions. In my opinion, if we can win one of the 3 cups, and get 8th again it will be a vast improvement considering our lack of squad depth and our reduced wage bill. I think 5th is reasonable and achievable.

I don't believe in Rodgers, father christmas or the tooth fairy

Guess I spoiled christmas and loss teeth for some

Some just can't see that rodgers is a mistake

Brad Jones would be a pretty decent keeper if he was given more chances to play - he made that early mistake but he also made a lot of very good saves tonight. He was pretty busy, with the inexperience of our defense (except carra), but I thought he put in a solid performance. Geddon Brad!

If you see the slow motion replay of the goal he gets punched in his face - may be the reason he spilled the ball!

He is a good keeper.

I've been banging on about Wisdom, Sterling, Suso and Robinson for ages now. I love it that we've got a manager with the cojones and the philosophy to ignore convention and blood the youngsters big-style.
Coates and Wisdom can fill the gaps left by injuries and Robinson is a must ahead of Enrique.
Raheem Sterling, Jonjo Shelvey and Suso will continue to impress and new signings Assaidi, Yesil and Borini will all have big parts to play this season.
I was particularly impressed with Assaidi and loan-signing Nuri Sahin tonight. And Suso was superb when he came off the bench.
Thumbs-up to Sinclair aswell, who at just eleven was the youngest player for LFC ever!
I've got shirts older than his dad!
Add these kids to Gerrard,Agger,Allen,Carragher,Reina,Lucas,
Suarez etc. and we have a great foundation to build upon.
Possible squad for Norwich(a) ;
GK; REINA
DEF; WISDOM,SKRTEL,COATES,JOHNSON
MID; SAHIN,ALLEN,GERRARD
FWD; STERLING,SUAREZ,ASSAIDI
SUBS; JONES,CARRAGHER,ENRIQUE,HENDERSON,
DOWNING,SUSO,YESIL.

ANFIELDPETE

Would take that squad maybe though suso infront of sahin little more attacking in my opinion . He is great in last third.

haha..why is everyone posting robinson should play on saturday..do you all hate enrique that much.

Nobody has faith in him anymore.

MIKEY

"Hate" is too strong a word - personally i don't .....just i think he's playing absolute crap and has been for some time !

He's been found out. Holds onto the ball too long and always comes inside. I suspect he was signed to complement Carroll and we all know how that turned out. Having said that, he's clearly a talented player who made all the right noises about BR's philosophy. His issues can be resolved through coaching I believe.

Boot room blarney- it was sad to see carragher struggling now, he was such a great servant to this club and a legend in my eyes i just hope we get many more like him and the way these youngsters play i think we will,i am so proud of our club ,exciting times ahead .

I only saw Carra struggle once last night. Apart from that he proved he is still worth keeping.

This '2nd tier' team seems to be the one showing the attacking flair that at times our first teams lacks. Team for Norwich maybe:

Reina
Johnson Coates Skrtel Robinson
Gerrard Sahin Suso
Sterling Suarez Assaidi

Subs: Jones, wisdom, carragher, Allen, Hendo, Pacheco, Yesil

Now based on performances that should be the team, however the one concern is who plays 'defensive' midfield? Can Gerrard hold, or should sahin seeing as he looked quite assured defensively. If not it would have to be suso to be replaced by hendo or allen to hold, although I would really like to see him start based on his incredible flair and quality. That team, going forward, I think would be too much for Norwich to handle, but we'll see. In Rodgers we trust!

E.H LFC

I would start Allen ahead of suso.
suso will have more impact from the bench.

MIKEY

Reina
Wisdom, Skertel, Coates, Johnson,
Gerarrd, Allen, Sahin
Sterling, Saurez, Assaidi

Solid Midfield who can hold and distribute the ball and attack as well as shield the Defense. A fast breaking front 3 who can all go past Denders.
A back four who are comfortable on the ball and can score from corners.
Ged

Think we should see what its like without allen starting for once, he is a good player but for me needs to get the ball turn, look up and move the ball forward instead of taking the safe option to pass back

I can't see Rodgers not starting Allen. So Suso on the bench ... Give him time to develop through starting role in the Cup ties and bench for PL. He has been really good in last two games!

So Joe Allen has been one of our best players this season and because we have a good game against west brom you think we should leave him out for the league game against norwich... Why ?

Sahin, Suso and Assaidi should start from the bench still in my opinion, Lets not get carried away and throw them straight into the league games they still need abit more settling time especially now we have so many 1st team players unavailable/not performing.

Not trying to discredit your post or say your wrong coz i may be wrong but i just think Suso is still young and midfield wise we have enough settled players to start the match with to get us into a good tempo the bring suso into a game we have a foothold on, Sahin still needs to settle into EPL as does assaidi, For me id personally go with

Reina
Wisdom Coates Skrtel Johnson
Gerrard Allen Henderson
Sterling Suarez Downing

Subs:
Jones, Robbinson, Carra, Sahin, Suso, Assaidi, Pacheco

Still very good post E.H LFC

UCCM

Allen is a bit like Masch. By that I mean he's very aware of his own prozone stats. He would rather complete a pass backwards than risk giving the ball away by trying anything more. Simples. (sometimes that means putting your teamates in the brown stuff, Masch did that a lot more than Allen will but I believe the basic premise is correct. Now bring on the abuse :) )

hey edds001 do you know if agger will be fit for norwich..heard the swelling just has to go down {Ed001's Note - I haven't heard but, being it is Agger, probably not quite yet.}

Daniel "Swarovski" Agger! £20 million is looking good right now, especially with the form of Coates. GED
