I see from reading some posts that there are calls for a change at right back (I agree with some of those calls btw).

I was just thinking if we were to sell Glen Johnson, how much do posters on here think we would get for him?

10-12mil? 12-15mil?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I doubt anyone would pay that kind of money for him he really isn't that special, no disrespect. micah richards at ten mill means glen ain't worth any where near that. I am surprised you still have him as number 1 right back

Agree0 Disagree0

Heard he's about to sign a new contract.
I wouldn't sell him now, I think he's a weak link in our team but I see little point in selling him now. The reason being we have a few players coming through in wisdom and Kelly who will be ready to snatch his place just as his legs will be going.

Agree0 Disagree0

Around the 10 to 13 million range. that's my suggestion.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Johnson is a very good player, he's on big wagers so i'd understand if the club decided to accept a decent offer for him but I like the idea of stability in the defensive line and think Kelly and Johnson are great options for any manager when they are fit.

Modern players are able to push to 33/34 nowadays and injuries permitting doing a good job. Johnson could do that for us. For all the pace Kyle Walker has he's more than erratic at times and I think Johnson looks a much safer player when under pressure for a contemporary comparison.

It's no surprise that since we've changed up the defence via injuries and such, we've actually struggled to win matches and been almost circus like with are passing from defence, Johnson offers us pretty good consistency there as does Agger who is also missing, these two are the passers in our defence, Enrique has always been a little bit hasty and wild and Skrtel for all he tries is no Agger when on the ball. That's the balance at the back.

However, I understand that if someone younger with the potential to become better whilst not rocking the boat too much in the present were to come in, then great stuff, let's be positive and see the bigger picture, imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

To all the deluded fans who think gj is useless take a look at are results since he has been out there is a reason he walks into the England team and ares because he is a brilliant player u all praise wisdom say how good he is well i'm sorry but no were near Johnson and neither is Kelly.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that without him we have looked unbalanced. He got a mega deal because Rafa said if we lost out to Man City we should raise the white flag in surrender to the then newly rich Mancunians. That's why he's the highest paid RB in the PL on a reported 139,000 per week. We are right to try and get that figure down though but He's got a good few years left in him, very good athlete. A keeper for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, Yeah he's useless. Nice work boys. The guys injured. We haven't won since he's been out. Makes total sense now.

Seriously

Agree0 Disagree0

I often think we could do better, but then looking at the list of RB out there I struggle to see anyone better who would come to us and/or be affordable that actually would be better. Yes, his wages are probably unreasonably high, but let's say we did sell him for something in the £10-12M range, who could we reasonably get that would be an upgrade?

The only option I can come up with is maybe Fernandes from CSKA, but I don't know if I would qualify him as 'better', just different and younger (and probably costly).

Agree0 Disagree0

He's English so you would be getting a good price depending on who wants him of course

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Sep 2013 09:31:59
dave if you think richards is better than johnson you must be kidding at least johnson can run, glenn is the best right back in england imo that is why he gets picked for england all day long when fit so 12m would not be a silly price to ask.

Agree0 Disagree0

He would go on a free, why?.because he's average, to old, on big wages, he will highly likely go to a lower epl club therefore unless lfc want to subsidise his wages for a few years he will go on a free enabling him to get a lucrative signing on fee therefore effectivly subsidising his wages, lfc might even agree to give him a testimonial in the future to help him on his way!

Agree0 Disagree0

Johnson is an excellent athlete and all the attributes but he rarely uses them and is lazy at times. But, he always ups his game for the bigger games. I think if we were tp sell him now, we would probably get around £7-8m.

As for a affordable replacement, I don't think we need one. Kelly and Wisdom for now and McLaughlin whwn he is ready.

Agree0 Disagree0

Abate anyone? contract runs out next summer. Try to get him on a bossman in january.

he can play in any formation 442 - 433 - 5212 - 352

Fletcher out for Sunderland, they only have 1 striker in altidore available. If we don't win it will be a disaster!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It could go either way for me, their players will have a point to prove after getting do canio sacked.

Agree0 Disagree0

They've also sacked Di Canio, (Annoyingly for Borini, can't the lad get some consistency?! :) I hope he's used lots throughout the season whenever, whoever takes over the managers job.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed with Mikey on this unfortunately. I think the players will be eager to show the home fans that the problem(s) are behind them now Di Canio is gone. My prediction: one of our players will get absolutely clattered by Cattermole.

Agree0 Disagree0

Let's cut to the chase here lads and lasses It should be 3 points like it should have been 3 points against Southampton (no disrespect to both of those teams).

Agree0 Disagree0

A team that has just fired its manager is often galvanized into action. This was bad timing from our perspective. If we are complacent - this is a potential banana skin.

Eds and reds,
Do you think Victor Moses could be bought by Liverpool after this loan spell, or is he just filling in this season because we failed to get Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Diego Costa or Willian Borges the Silva? {Ed001's Note - impossible to say, he could be bought, but it is only September.}

Tom Ince in the Winter window pls, or better yet the gem at Villareal called Gio Dos Santos he'd give us that real threat we desperately need down that right flank. Plus a serious Attacking mid since we missed out on Mkhitharyan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Is that the same dos santos that used to play at spurs

Agree0 Disagree0

You have a problem with him?

Eds fellow reds, feel that Sundays game is proberbly one of BR biggest since arriving, must win game I think, wouldn't be very good if we miss out on the 3 points .

Hi Eds,

Just wondering why Toure is playing RB rather than Wisdom or Kelly?

Thanks {Ed002's Note - That is a Dear Brendan question. I don't pick the team.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Because kelly isn't match fit and wisdom is a liability at full back!

Agree0 Disagree0

Wisdom isn't a liabilty. its typical brendan who tends to drop the younger players when things don't go well
If you came to this conclusion based on one game then you're deuluded bon

Agree0 Disagree0

A blind man knows wisdom ain't good enuf at right back 4 us, he's a cb and we are well overloaded there,

Agree0 Disagree0

Ive watched him many times at fullback. liability was maybe a tad harsh. what I meant was he doesn't seem to be able to defend a back post ball, doesn't position himself t cover a missed cross by our center halfs, is terrible when a player runs at him and has nothing going forward. his natural position is center back allthough hell never cement a place in our starting eleven. footballs a cruel game and only a few make it right to the top, he's another player that will fall short u must see that?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think wisdom is grand right full but in the Swansea match I think sakho played terrible kept leaving gaps leaving skertel to cover and wisdom was then covering him also Henderson got told to keep going central point wisdom was left short there to just a opinion

Seems like BR is doing some tinkering early with the squad and I just hope he finds out the solution to his decision making, he is doing a great job so far but Hendo is no right winger neither is Gerrard suited in the holding role but that is just my opinion so i'll continue supporting from he stands. Go Reds, "LFC 4 LIFE".

apparently is there a problem with kelly? every time I see him play for reserves he looks fine to me. also mclaughin is a real talent . I wonder why play toure at RB, when you have talent at your disposal. I really believe mclaughin could do a luke shaw for lfc (though at RB), but I don't hink he would feature at all this season.
its all about big names in first team becuase lfc is a BIG club,
well guess what it has been an eternity since we have relenquished BIG club tag. The club has a big following and that is what keeps it big till date. but if we r planning on playing toure (out of position) and moses and others who have been below par in place of ibe and kelly and mclaughin who could do much better(maybe) I wonder how long that support will stay.
A Fan here waiting eagerly for a new kid from lfc to set EPL on fire.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree with what you say about McLaughlin mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mclaughlin will be johnsons long term succesor, he has it all!

I find it utterly disappointing a certain 'fan' on here has been wishing injuries upon his own players. I know there is always the odd one, but one can't help feeling sad when reading such garbage. I come on here to read the views, opinions, general banter and transfer news, which can I say the majority of the time, is thoroughly entertaining. Thanks to the editors, we have readily available hub where we can verbally congregate and share opinions.

Moving away from the negative vibes, i'd like to put on record the achievements of our women's team. Hopefully they can see the last game off and come away with the title, either way I think it should be well documented how well they have done this season. I have been so impressed how we are now 'one club' as before i'd have paid no attention to the ladies game, nor the U18s & U16s but since FSG and BR have come in, there has been more coverage of our football club as a whole which I find really great.

As for our first team, i'm not getting my knickers in a twist yet what so ever. Infact, being 2 points off top, level with City and Chelsea and already with day light ahead of Everton and Man United, I can't see why we shouldn't be happy. Obviously, there is disappointment going out the cup but that game could have gone either way. The air of expectation is there this year with us getting off to a tremendous start, the media then talking about us and the title (which I feel is out our reach presently) and then the fans begin to believe in the hype. All I would say is take a deep breath, don't expect miracles but believe in our team and Brendan Rodgers and let's not jump the gun every time we loose a game.

Overall, i'm feeling really positive going forward, and happy that our club (MY OPINION) is in the best possible hands.

Thanks

dont know about anyone else but I feel we are six players short of being really ready. its not being greedy but when u look at everyone else's squad we are lacking. not saying go out spend spend spend spend, 1st team is very good i'd say in that team there could be 2 or 3 things we could get better. I think a dm player with power and pace. a new left back. and the obvious one the mickey and diego costa type player. I think sterling has been poor I think maybe next year we should look to send him on loan regular games. not ready to be impact sub yet. I also think that j allen will eventually be sold. matter if opinion but I think we should look to loan out sterling, sell allen enrique borini reina. see how l alberto does again I think loan move would be good. I would like over the course of next 2 windows . a left back, 2 dm/cm one being will hughes(what a talent), a back up gkp, 1 no10 or winger and a striker so we have 3 sturridge aspas and someone else, or another creative attacker. also aspas haters one thing to say wait to you see him as a no 9 not behind striker he scores plenty goals in pre season there tells u something.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We need a central midfielder with attacking instincts, but solid defensively. Mkhitaryan would have been great but I would take someone like Aaron Ramsey.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ramsey is in super form this season but last year he was on the same level as Henderson and Allen!

Harry 'Scouser' I am fed up of your negative attitude. You never seem to appear while the team is doing good yet if we draw you are suddenly here telling us how you knew that this would happen and how the players we bought are complete crap. You even said how you wished Allen was injured. Seriously? I know it is a banter page and we are all entitled to an opinion but surely there is a limit.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's been as clear as the days long we were in for a tumble, Harryscousers right. Rodgers has bought crap, Alberto, Borini, Aspas, allem, Assiadi, sahhin. Plus we didn't need ilori.

Gerrards now paying with a face on, he knows the tikki Takkis a waste of time. We're not fIt enough to do it. We look knackered second half. What happened to the 7 second fight to get he ball back?

Hendo on he right wing, 4 centre Half across the back, Toure at right back, Aspas running around not knowing what he's doing. It's a sham. Mignolet has saved us from being in bottom 5, that's he reality of it. Out of one cup and found out in the league by Southampton. Here we go again.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with you ozone.
carra retired and we brought in 4 defenders saho/illori/toure/cissokho.
we needed a midfielder that would be ready and we bought alberto who could be a good player in the future.
we replaced downing with moses.
And if we really wanted mickey or costa they would have come.
but we decided to buy aspas for 7 mil another voronin.
i am 100% sure aspas will go on loan next season he is a mid table striker, borini is better striker than aspas.
johnson is missed for his attacking, but will allen really lift the team when he returns.
we need to be honest we have a good first 11 and on the day we can beat anyone.
but our last 15 transfers only coutinho and sturridge made a impact all the others we had for years.
Br should thank god these americans have no clue about football otherwise he would be in trouble.
malta

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair other top targets wouldn't come to us

Agree0 Disagree0

So the second and third poster what do you think we do after missing out on 3 players you want to what sack Rogers and start again? What are you getting at?

Agree0 Disagree0

Dezyboy,

Borini, Allen, Aspas, Alberto, Assiadi, Sahin, Ilori cost circa £55mill.

Alternative:- Erikson, Wanyama, Arda Turan cost circa £48 mill.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dezboy,

All 3 would have come. {Ed001's Note - no they would not, Eriksen was not interested in moving to us.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozone, if we are so rubbish and Rodgers clueless how come we have lost just 3 in 17 PL games, taken more points in the league than the champions since they beat us at Old Trafford last season?

United fans could say they spent 50m on Anderson, Smalling, Zaha, Powell and Buttner - what a waste. But the point is they are the future and will only reach their peak and look good buys (Anderson apart) down the line. We can't buy a host of established stars without CL footy.

You have trashed Allen, Borini, Aspas, Alberto & Ilori before they have even had a chance. That leaves a loan guy who didn't fit in and the cheapest feller as the bad buys. You don't mention Sakho, Cissokho, Toure & Mignolet who are all players likely to play important roles for us this season.

I'm not saying we have played well this season because we haven't. But that's down to being pragmatic (get results rather than play well) and injuries and players settling in. Once our rivals are balls deep in Europe and playing twice a week we should be into our stride and I'm confident we can get top 4.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aw c'mon Ozone - you're lame theory about FSG selling off all our best players to pay for a hedge fell flat on its face this summer. You're criticising Rodgers when we lost one game in god knows how many. And now it's time to turn on the players? Especially the younger ones who haven't had enough time to prove themselves. Is there any part of Liverpool FC you are currently happy with or are the aliens, Elvis and JFK still running the world for you?

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Sep 2013 09:01:13
so brenda is glad lfc are out of the cup so he can concentrate on the league and is hoping to remain in the top 6 until jan, when he hopes to strengthen and push on, really brenda! are you going to dismiss the F.A. cup aswell, what's the point in trying to qualifying for the C.L. as your not going to win that either, ahh I forgot its not about winning at lfc anymore, its about the money and the "brand" (formally known as lfc) btw did brenda not say "the brand" where going to challenge for the top a few weeks ago, lol he's mustard, you can't believe a word that comes out of his mouth

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So we are 5th at the moment, level on points with city and chelsea, and 2 points behind spurs and arsenal and also ahead of everton and utd. Are we not in the top 6?? I would gladly take this position come january, injured players to come back and a chance to strengthen further if needed. It amazes me how many people hang on every word that is said by management and players alike.
I am sure that internally they are going with the intention of winning every game but they are not going to say stuff like that in public. We see the reaction on here every time a result doesn't go our way. The same over reaction when we win a few games. All he really is saying is that the team want to be in a position to realistically challenge come jan, we will get stronger as the season progresses, but not much point if the team is not in a position to do anything about it. I just think some people like to moan just for the sake of it!

Agree0 Disagree0

You can't believe anything that comes from anyone in football he is trying to put a good spin on getting knocked out obviously

Agree0 Disagree0

Strange how the fact that Liverpool played well are where unlucky not to get anything from the game against man u contradicts your statement. I must off also missed him jumping for joy at the end of match shouting - yeah we out the cup

All he is doing is trying to find the positivity in a situation which didn't go our way. It is what we all do to at times to keep our sanity - or it is what we all should do. I think it is called Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - what psychiatrists use to treat/prevent depression.

I am sure the club psychologist would be approving of BR's outlook.

I think a few posters on here could do with a bit of CBT!

Agree0 Disagree0

His name is Brendan. B-R-E-N-D-A-N, Brendan. Not Brenda.

Maybe I should call you The Wood

Agree0 Disagree0

Cognitive behavioral therapy, club psychiatrists, lol, what's the next lfc documentary going to be called "one flew over the liverbirds nest" lol. oh and btw until the time BR mans up so as people can believe/take seriously what he says, then his name will be BRENDA

Agree0 Disagree0

singred don't worry about trolls like the word he is about as interesting as the show of the same name, he can't even support r manager who is in the process imo of building a team that will push for honors in the near future, he did say he would need a few transfer windows for the ins and outs needed to make us competitive again.

Agree0 Disagree0

The OP is a Spurs fan. I wouldn't take much notice of his childish attempts at winding everyone up here.

Word - read my post - I said Club Psychologist - the guy that FSG brought in to make those small increments - the same guy who sorted out Ronnie O'Sullivan, and the British cycling team.

A psychiatrist is something completely different - it is the kind of person you need.
