I think the point I tried to make about Konchesky was missed. I am not having a go at past legends such as Alan Kennedy (in fact I played charity matches for him and marked his son in a match), but am trying to point out they were very solid players. Defenders. Insua could not hold water, and Aurellio is slow and Andy Reid would do him for pace. Konchesky is a defensive left back and is better than what we have. Mavinga and Robinson are not ready yet.

Last season we conceded a number of goals because our full backs could not defend.

I'm not saying Konchesky is Maldinin. He is a stop gap until, hopefully, we can attract an even better full back.

When people write they want Taiwo and the like we have problems. i) we don't have the money ii) we don't offer Champions League.

Until the club stabilises we will not attract the top players.

Onwards and upwards. 3-0 tomorrow.

According to PSV's website Orlando Engelaar and Ola Toivonen are both sick for their game against ADO Den Haag, now one talented player getting sick before a game is passable, but two is a tad iffy. Especially on such short notice.

You can assume what you will.

can we assume that a virus might be going round their traing ground, like it does at most places of work.

There's no details yet about the fee agreed by LFC and Porto. But i think that maybe Lucas could be part of the deal and heading to Porto.

Ed , what would be probable 11 for tomm.? any clue? and according to mirror VDV has decided to stay at real. {editor's note - someone has already posted the 11, though they don't leave their name I recognise the IP as the person that has been consistently right with the 11 they name.}

28 Aug 2010 23:20:14
Raul Meireles who has apparently got an impending move to Anfield would be a great signing for us. I think the money spouted around for Masch is actually a little bit more than rumoured to be - don't forget Hodgson declined 16M and a player so why would he take 18M? I think it was probably closer to 21M plus something like 4M in add-ons. If we have 10M left to spend after the purchase of Meireles, then we should be offloading Insua (4M) and
El zhar (1M) to bring our funds up to 15M. I think we need a decent RW. .I don't think Kuyt cuts it as a winger at all, not enouugh pace and not enough crosing ability, plus he can't hug the touchline.

And now my worst LFC team of all time!

Itandje
Abel Xavier Bjorn Tore Kvarme Torben Piechnik Julian Dicks

Erik Meijer El Hadji Diouf

Super Sh* e subs

Vignal

Sean Dundee
Speedie
Voronin

I dare anyone to name a team that is worse than that. This must be the worst defensive line up ever in the history of football!

Dear Sir,

Confidential Business Proposal

Having consulted with my colleagues and based on the information gathered from the Nigerian Chambers Of Commerce And Industry, I have the privilege to request your assistance to transfer the sum of $47, 500,000.00 (forty seven million, five hundred thousand United States dollars) into your accounts. The above sum resulted from an over-invoiced contract, executed, commissioned and paid for about five years (5) ago by a foreign contractor. This action was however intentional and since then the fund has been in a suspense account at The Central Bank Of Nigeria Apex Bank.

We are now ready to transfer the fund overseas and that is where you come in. It is important to inform you that as civil servants, we are forbidden to operate a foreign account; that is why we require your assistance. The total sum will be shared as follows: 70% for us, 25% for you and 5% for local and international expenses incidental to the transfer.

ED or Sharkey or anyone! Can you explain the above post for us mere mortals who don't really understand it. Or is it just me who dosn't know what it really means if so i'll buy the Financial Times on Monday 1st thing.

Blair Mayne YNWA {editor's note - it is a common scam email, always someone claiming to be a Nigerian businessman with millions to share with you if he just gets your bank details.}

I sure hope these rumours about Deferico aren't true. I'm brazillian and altought i don't support Corinthias, i sometimes watch them and this guy can't even break into the fisrt team, plays irregular football and dind't manage to settle in Brazil from Argentina - a terrible buy if confirmed

My all time LFC team.

Reina
Nicol Thompson Hansen A Kennedy

McDermott Souness Gerrard Barnes

Dalglish Rush

Subs
Clemence
Keegan
Heighway
Hunt

I apologise in advance for the omissions of Ray Kennedy, Billy Liddell, Roger Hunt, John Toshack, Phil Neal, Jan Molby and many many more.

I only put Reina ahead of Clemence because of the importance of kicking in the modern game.

Liverpool Rumours
The Porto manager has confirmed that Raul Meireles WILL be joining Liverpool subject to passing a medical and a few personal details. Should be confirmed by Roy at the West brom game, if not later on in the day. Just hope a striker makes his way into melwood now. Fingers Crossed!

IF the Meirless story is true (which i think it is) just goe's to show that nobody really know's what's happening at LFC at the moment concerning transfer targets and Takeover etc.

Like someone said earlier we for once in the last 3 years are doing it "The Liverpool Way"

I'm really supprised about Meireles transfer as he is a quality player and thought maybe teams in the Champions League would be looking at him.

But IF we get him then well done Roy if he was one of your targets especially for a reported 10.7 mill. If Yaya Toure is worth 28 mill then Meireles is an absolute steal at 10.7 mill.

Blair Mayne YNWA

PS. And the asset stripping continue's!

Look at the players we've missed out on this season considering we have no money!

Ibrahimovic - joined AC on loan
raul - free
guti - free
deco - free
ballack - free
gallas - free
cavani - loan
ben arfa - loan
chamakh - free
cacau - free
caceres - loan
trezeguet - had juve contract terminated
bellamy - loan

and that's just players who we pay no fee for, surely wages for some may be high, but so is joe coles wages and if we saving on transfer fees it's a bargain

speaking of bargains. . Some others we've missed out on.
Khedeira - £8
ozil -£10
huntelaar - £9

last season
krancjar -£2
Adam Johnson -£6

what's going on? Thought we were a big club who could attract the best players?

What you reckon ed? {editor's note - most of those players are not good enough or past it. Johnson I always liked, Oezil and Khedira look good, but I don't think any of the rest are worth signing.}

I HEARD THAT THERE IS A NEW FULHAM PLAYER IN OUR SQUAD WHO IS HE AND HOW GOOD IS HE?

AND ARE WE GETTIN ANY BRILL STRIKERS?

LFC BETTER THAN MAN UNITED CRAP

28 Aug 2010 21:50:13

Fair play 'Bob the Red' - no team ever won anything with fans constantly bitching at them. As soon as a team feels the fans on their back performance levels drop. There is a very thin line between success and failure.

Look at the England team this year, fear breeds losers - LFC have done well in the past because our players knew that we were there for them no matter what, and it allowed them to play without fear. And win - is that true now?

Listen to your anthem

My brother who is a very successful business man in nigeria has informed me that a very rich nigerian consortium is very close to taking over liverpool football club. Hope this is true because they have limitless funds to pump into lfc to make them richest club in world"

Did they send the bid in an email? if liverpool give them their bank details etc. .

I have to say i love this site, as i said last night nobody knows whats going on behind those lfc doors. everbody was negative roy this mash that. amazing how one signing changes everyone's views. im gonna try and predict someone nobody is talking about. Ruud van Nistelrooy. i know use might not like it but i think my guess is as good as any.
believe if you would like to see him and torres up front.

28 Aug 2010 19:15:40Just saw Lucas Leiva Ariving at John Lennon Airport. I think he could be Leaving Liverpool and Expect him not to be in squad tommorow for the game as he wants to move to a country that speaks spanish? due to family reasonREPLY - BRAZILIANS SPEAK PORTUGUESE!

the report said spanish. i read it too. i don't know his wife but it said SHE wanted to move somewhere that spoke spanish.

Wow what an amazing coup this story was the jorno who released it. . . All he gad to do was listen to Mascharano's many press statements and then later change the name to Lucas. .

For those idoits out there. . this was why Masch left. . nothing to do with lucas. . stop posting bulls* t or reading it

It wouldn't surprise me if Harry took the foot off the peddle today so the board would throw him a few quid for some signins. .moyes done it last season playing kids . SMF

28 Aug 2010 21:23:00
I think that raul m is a great signing but he isn't a replacement fr mash he is a attacking player who has an eye for a pass maybe the new xabi alonso.
Think we defo need a partner for nando it wll be someoe that know one has been thinking of because no one thought we were after him but we have got him on the cheap in my eyes because he is in the peak of his career.
Also Lucas will be gone on deadline day with us buying n'zogbia and selling babel to blue/ in my view we should pay newcastle 3mill and babel for tayler and carrol great target man who has a great future ahead of him and he is english. Ben Arfa as a replacement for Babel. Kieran LFC

Team to play West Brom:(subject to late change/ injuries)

Reina; Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Agger; Kuyt, Lucas, Poulsen, Jovanovic; Gerrard, Torres

Ed, please post it, I posted Arsenal, Man City, Trabzonspor(home) and they were correct.

28 Aug 2010 20:58:45
If liverpool happen to buy a good striker e.g wolfwinkel or toivonen, i would like them to play
4-1-3-2

28 Aug 2010 20:48:43
RH will not be looking at other options he will already know who he wants. Chances are deals/ personal terms have been agreed and know Masch is sold the deals will be done. As for no quality striker will come to Anfield to sit on bench that is rubbish. RH is nolt against 4-4-2 but also with the amount of games and Torres injury record he will play a fair amount of games. I expect koncheskey plus 2 others (hopefully Meirles and a striker) We may even be surprised and get a loan deal as well. If we beat West Brom and then get a few signings what a lift this would give the club going into the international break.

28 Aug 2010 20:46:03
Longtime reader but this is my 1st post:

the offical psv website confirms Ola Toivonen will miss thier match tomorrow with 'sickness'.

afew questions for the Ed or anyone who wants to add an opinion:

1. does roy have the funds to buy Toivonen, RVW or any striker after Konchesky and Meireles sign?

2. what does the future hold for Insua? no squad number and Konchesy imminent. will he be sold/ loaned or demoted back to the reserves? ?

Lucas is not leaving as he is in the starting 11 for sunday! !"

Masch was in the starting XI against Arsenal, and barring his petulant strike would have played against City - being on the squad sheet doesn't mean you're staying.

Btw, did anyone else have a little chuckle at Masch's statement about joining Barca - "I'll give the same as I always have for all the teams I've played for; sacrifice, desire and I will try to do things as well as possible and help all the time, " - mumbling under his breath "except when i'm not in the right frame of mind" ;)

"I wish everyone would get off roys back .He's been in footy long enough to know what he's doing in the transfer market. good riddance to masch, hello to whoever roy brings in.

rumours.
turan 6 mil
podolski 8 mil
huntalaar loan

now redknapp has said he doesn't want anymore strikers why don't we go for huntalaar on loan and also why don't we go after N'zogbia now his move to birmingham has gone pear shaped would be a good winger for us."

Turan 6mil! Poldolski 8mil! u are so lol mate

Bob the Red {editor's note - I do have to admit, I have never liked Gerrard as a person, that probably does lead me to be harsh on him. But I like to think it is because I expect more of our best player, a player that used to be capable of getting back as well as forward but now seems to only turn it on in the opposition half.}

It's hard comparing Gerrard to Souness Ed when Gerrard has played a good part of his career lately behind the CF, Souness played in a typical 4-4-2. Souness alsohad the luxury of great players around him, Gerrard not so much. I would think if Gerrard was born in an earlier era playing for us he would be the best player bar 1! King Kenny! But then maybe I'm being too hard on Souness who I hold responsible for the start of the demise of Liverpool! !

LFC ownership - Yayah Kirdi - stooge of Hicks and Gillett - believable or unbelievable?

WHAT 28 OF YOU DO NOT THINK THAT YAYAH KIRDI IS IN SOME WAY CONNECTED TO H&G IN ORDER TO 'FLUSH OUT' BIDDERS FOR THE CLUB BY SAYING THAT HE (KIRDI) IS CLOSE TO A £500M DEAL?
ARE YOU MAD HE IS ALMOST CERTAINLY CONNECTED TOTHEM! !

Roys at the west ham-united game.Could there be a bid for cole or parker even
ed have you got anything on who he is watching {editor's note - you sure he is not just watching United because we play them in a couple of weeks? It could well be Cole, Parker or it might be Noble or Ilunga. It is hard to say because he has had all 4 of those players watched while manager of Fulham, I doubt anyone will know for sure which of those he is still interested in except for Roy himself.}

Ed I agree i don't think he will look to sign Cole as he is inconsistent, Diarra will come instead of Parker and he isn't for sale according to David Sullivan, finally Noble and Ilunga are simple not good enough for us.

28 Aug 2010 18:49:09

I was watching the Super Cup last night and Rafa was making some really strange decisions. But I just happend to think whatever happend to his former Assistant Paco Ayersterban (spelling). Does anybody know the 'real' reason he suddenly left Liverpool?

28 Aug 2010 18:34:51
Looking at the post regarding Gerrard and which Ed. To the poster that asked for the real Ed to please stand up, be careful for what you wish for as i believe that was the REAL ed! Never been a great Gerrard fan has the REAL ed.

The other Ed was spot on about his comments about Lucas. Although he didn't have the best of games, he is like a Skoda. He'll never lose the negative thoughts too many fans have about him. May have thought he'd turned the corner last season and won a lot of fans respect, but judging by the way he is being the sacrificed offering this week then he is clearly having second thoughts. There is only so much abuse a player can take. Shortly if we do not get off his back we'll hound him out of the club. Great support well done. Carried the can for Alonso going, Gerrard losing his form and he perhaps got the blame for Torres getting injured every other week.

As for Gerrard in the Citeh game. Everything he did with the ball was right, he rarely gave it away, always passed at the right angle which allowed the momentum of the receiving player to continue BUT did not dictate the midfield the way a world class player should do. Appears to only give little cameo appearances (15 mins) of things he used to do for fun (for 90 mins). He isn't energised. Need more evidence though before i convict Stevie. (Perhaps a jumper pulled over my head and punched 4 times! !)

And with more Ed's, you get more chance of varied conversation's. You never know, one of the Ed's may just be a Gerrard fan!

Bob the Red {editor's note - I do have to admit, I have never liked Gerrard as a person, that probably does lead me to be harsh on him. But I like to think it is because I expect more of our best player, a player that used to be capable of getting back as well as forward but now seems to only turn it on in the opposition half.}

What is happening with Insua?

28 Aug 2010 18:14:42
Spriggo, Your first reply is the sort of post that is acceptable (to me!). You may not like a player but at least your comments are constructive and that is the way to debate your opinions. Your opinion and my opinion can be debated with lots of constructive comments.

Your second reply goes away from the comments i made. I said i was bemused, not affected, by the comments of some fans. As regards to managers, trust me i never had one manager that was nice! But really players appreciate the support they get from their own fans. They get enough stick from the opposition's fans.

How can a fan in one breath accuse a player of not having the passion to play for the club and in the next breath turn around and say i'm embarrassed to support this team? Sometimes it makes my blood boil.

We can all be critical without being obnoxious to our own players surely? Isn't it better to argue your case as too why a player like Lucas isn't good enough for the team and give people the benefit of your thoughts so that a reasonable discussion can take place?

I suppose fans are like players, you have quality fans and you have fans who aren't fit to support the team they proclaim to do so.

Happily, i think you come unde rthe former and i look forward to having many debates. We could start with the enigma of Lucas!

Do you know anything about the supposed transfer of lucas ed? Personally i don't think it will happen. {editor's note - I don't know what is happening with Lucas, I wouldn't be surprised if he is unhappy though, he gets all the abuse even though it is not all his fault. Against City he was trying to contain 3 midfielders all on his own because Gerrard was too busy strolling around and it was Lucas that took the stick for his performance. I don't know what people expect of the lad, he hadn't a hope up against those Barry, Yaya and De Jong all on his own. At least he tried for 90 minutes, Gerrard only tries when he feels like it these days.}

Are you having a laugh? Gerrard was by a mile our best player on the day! Seriously, the editor on this page hasn't got a clue! Why haven't we got the useful, in the know, respectful opinioned editor from the main page? This lad is a clown!

Back to rumours - I think we will be going for either Toivonen or Gomez (loan) {editor's note - Gerrard was awful, he was strolling around the pitch for the entire match. I am sick of this hero worship for a player who has done nothing to deserve it for 2 years.}

I wish Mascherano luck. All of us have been through it, that wife or girlfriend that pushes you or makes you do things you don't want. He'll be a starter and busqueets will be on the bench.

Sorry mate but if my wife pushes me i just push her back, he is a proffesional footballer and he is being controlled by his misses, what the hell is wrong with him, he needs to get a grip and fast! !

{editor's note - I don't know what is happening with Lucas, I wouldn't be surprised if he is unhappy though, he gets all the abuse even though it is not all his fault. Against City he was trying to contain 3 midfielders all on his own because Gerrard was too busy strolling around and it was Lucas that took the stick for his performance. I don't know what people expect of the lad, he hadn't a hope up against those Barry, Yaya and De Jong all on his own. At least he tried for 90 minutes, Gerrard only tries when he feels like it these days.}
I don't believe in suckin up to ED but bob on mate. I couldnt agree more sometimes Gerrard lets the game pass buy strolling round doing THE GERRARD PASS, hard as you can to the guy whos 5 yards away.Then when he knows he hasnt done enough starts stormin round flyin in an shootin from anywhere. .even some strikers(strickers?) have got to know how lazy his backpassin is so wait on his shoulder. Terry Henry did. King Kenny was great, Digger the best ive seen, But for all you younger people watch Kevin Keegan when he played for liverpool , the workrate and commitment of a trojan. SMF. . .i have a gerrard dvd his stature and workrate has lapsed with age. {editor's note - I don't think it is age, it is attitude, in my opinion. He was an arrogant kid because he was always told he was wonderful and was going to be the greatest etc etc, the way he is hero worshipped has just increased that. He just believes his own hype, he knows he won't get dropped and he knows if he charges forward and has a shot he is a hero, even if the rest of his game is poor. Shame really, he had all the attributes to be Liverpool's greatest ever player, but he has never reached Souness's level of command in midfield.}

Sorry mate Its not what people think its how they say it . .non constructive. .Im not a fan of Johnson, Ngog, maybe Lucas. but theyre not shat or not worthy to wear the shirt. .i honestly think Konchesky s a great buy. If you look at the line up against city.man 4 man other than the 3 ive just mentioned we had a better line up, im a 442 man but this was our downfall on the night. with the 2 due to sign and 1 or 2 others a forward and a c/ half(unless wilson can step up to the mark). You can't keep bangin on about youth, theyre not all what you think they are, Alan Hansen was right youll win nowt wi kids.He just said it at the wrong time about the wrong team. Every penny we have left should be put towards a forward, Dzecko being the best or if not Aguero. SMF {editor's note - I still don't understand why Hansen said that, United's team only used to have 4 youngsters in it at the time, 1 of those was Giggs, who was very experienced by then. Hansen must have known Cantona, Schmeichel, Bruce, Pallister, Irwin, Cole, McClair etc were not kids.}

Surely the Manager will kick off if a player isn't up to scratch like Fegies hairdrier treatment. So in your idea that won't help them either. Being kind doesn't always help. Sometimes people need a kick up the arse.

That's what I'm saying.

People who slate then go the other way obv don't get the game but if they spend their money then they are as entitled as the rest of us.

Maybe as a former player that's what you don't understand.

Yer I deffo see your point over those points like an it takes a lot for me to get wound up like. I'm not sayin I kick off watchin it but when I see Lucas playing for us week in week out when we loan out Aquilani when we need creative players and when Benitez dropped Babel after scoring it frustrated the life out of me.

My argument was with Benitez over such things like that after waiting to see over a couple of seasons if he was seeing something I wasn't (obviously being a top Manager and me merly a fan) I have to say some of his critisism was justified. I blame Management and coaches (from youth level onwards) for bringing sucj sub standard players in. I have no ill feeling over players who give their all and I see Lucas does throw effort in as does the Greek but really they are not players who improve us.

I'm afraid fans at different clubs are very fickle these days and as it is an Internationally supported club with people from different cultures and backgrounds these plastic fans (to us) will be around. But to be fair they probably spend more money on getting to the match and on merchandise than us.

Player critisism may not help all players. But what about Beckham and Ronaldo? They went on to different levels to prove themselves.

I will be behind the team especially with the effort shown but like I said these people have their own way to show their feelings.

I'm not trying to censor anyone. I just cannot for the life of me agree with people who shout "Kuyt you are so crap it's unreal" then the moment he scores they lose their collective faces! WTF is that all about? Especially when they know squat about the game and couldn't kick a cow's backside with a banjo.

Neither do i find it acceptable for people to post "we are so embarrassing, we are so sh* e, Roy's clueless, Gerrard's crap, Kuyt's crap, Lucas is crap, what a crap buy so and so is" and so on.

By all means have a discussion about why we are poor, but then that might be an issue if the person doesn't know why we are crap. I suppose it's far easier to resort to mouthing obsenities.

I wonder what your definition of support is then? As a former player it often bemused me when so called fans of your team barracked you and spent the best part of the game telling you how crap you were, then would kiss the badge on the scarf when the team scored? Not many players respond well to being told they are utterly crap by supporters of their own team. Think about it. Players need the fans.

Bob the Red

Lucas is not a great player and both him and Kuyt are very frustrating to watch.
My definition of support? No matter who is playing in the red of Liverpool I support them and encourage them to do well for the team, even if some of them are rubbish.
Your attitude as a player seems to typify the modern day player who needs to be loved and falls apart at the first bit of criticism. When I played, if someone criticised me it only spurred me on to prove them wrong

. . .Why is he parting with our young jewels for Konchesky?!. .Ed. .please tell me we're just loaning them to him!. .We've all been watching these two along with our other youngsters, and a blind mancould see they have great futurs ahead of them, so why is Roy doing this to us. I can't see how anyone can spin this into something good. .For me this is a very dark sign into what Roy thinks of our reserves and youth squads. .Both of which have been smashing every other reserve team they play. . . Someone help me please.

Daniel Ayala will head to Championship side Hull City on loan for the season.
Dani Pacheco will extend his contract which is good news but no idea why Lauri Dalla Valle will be allowed to leave.

well pre season when ever i watched dalla valle he looked lazy slow and didn't have the talent to stay at liverpool amoo, shelvey, pacheco eccleston ayala and kelly looked like they could play 1st team football now if asked

where as dalla valle looked like he needed 2 years to mature physically hope clears things up a little

Just like to comment on who we should buy upfront to support Torres. Firstly can i say, the person who posted the other day stating that the 4-4-2 formation killed us, what a great comment and this should be food for thought for those lovers of 4-4-2. it's going to take a long time to adapt to different formations.

Perhaps on the evidence of one away game you cannot say 4-4-2 doesn't work for us, neither can you say 4-2-3-1 is the way to go for us either.

But we do need another player upfront to help take pressure off Torres and Ngog in particular.

I've said this before and i'll say it again, Kevin Davies of Bolton.

I've watched this player with fascination for many seasons now. I am aware he is 33 and doesn't score that many goals but i am convinced he will set up dozens of chances for Torres. This man is unbeatable in the air and for someone who you could just get the Sunday Times supplement under his feet when he jumps is remarkable! His hold up play is superb, a lot like Drogba. If you try to get the ball you end up fouling him. He wasn't the most fouled player last season for nothing. Davies has steel resolve and is a clear 'fighter'. The old addage "when in Rome".

Don't dismiss in a wink of an eye just because he isn't foreign. But think about it.

I got a feeling that maybe poulsen was brought in to replace Lucas as there as been a few rumours starting to arise about him wanting to leave due to his family not settling in. Also with aquilani leaving us and saying he wants to stop in Italy and us signing raul meireles who is more attacking than defensive so is to replace aquilani not mascherano, so hopefully we will be signing las diarra who as been rumoured today that we are looking to sign him, if not him then maybe his namesake m diarra who we could get possible on a free transfer. That would mean we got our centre mid area sorted. Also with the koncheskey sign our left back area is sorted just the striker and winger position need to be sorted now

Formation > 442 > liverpool

Roy Hodgson changed away from the 4-4-1-1 against Arsenal, and went 4-4-2, with Fernando Torres and David Ngog starting at man city

Javier Mascherano was unavailable

Traditional 4-4-2 v 4-2-3-1 battle

The classic problem for a 4-4-2 against a 4-2-3-1 (or 4-3-3) is that liverpool where outnumbered in the centre of midfield

City's three central midfielders – Yaya Toure played high up the pitch, generally level with the two wingers
Milner and Johnson. Gareth Barry played a box-to-box role, starting alongside Nigel de Jong but also getting into the penalty area.

Liverpool's problems going forward stemmed from the disadvantage in the midfield. As they were out numbered in midfield, their wide players were forced to play extremely narrow to help Lucas and Gerrard in the centre.
Milan Jovanovic & Kuyt barely getting near the touchline all game, but decent defensively as man city outnumbered them.
The narrowness meant there was never any out-ball when Liverpool regained possesion. Torres and Ngog weren't giving enough variation upfront with their running and movement.
Liverpool where bad with possession.

Their midfield problems were emphasised when Carlos Tevez dropped deep, as he likes to do. Tevez moving into a deep-lying position created a 4 man city players against 2 liverpool midfielders.
This allowd man city to build up play around gerrard and lucus in midfield.

Cities inverted wingers cause G Johnson + Daniel Agger (out of position) lots of problems. M Johnson was always looking to cut inside onto his left foot towards Agger's weaker side.

The biggest problem with Liverpool playing a 4-4-2 is that it Steven Gerrard is forced to play a very deep, especially if he is playing alongside Lucas (rather than Javier Mascherano, who is much more able to cope by himself in the centre of midfield,

Gerrard played the best football of his career at the head of a midfield three, and is much more subdued in a 4-4-2 role, he is too far from goal, unable to influence attacking moves, less likely to combine with Torres (a partnership that works well) and more likely to play wasteful diagonal balls that are easily intercepted.

i am worried that Hodgson wants to keep playing traditional 4-4-2. It is a out-dated formation

The second city goal came from a corner. This was intresting because Benitez favoured Zonal marking and that goal would have been classed as off side in Zonal play.

Martin O'Neil likes to use a Zonal + Man Marking element to corner marking, which liverpool should adopt

manchester city won comfortably without playin spectacularly special football and that goes to show how poor liverpool really played.

Roy Hodgson performance was disappointing. using the wrong formation, playing Agger against Johnson, Corner marking mistakes, playing Gerrard too deep and playing both N'Gog + Torres together.

My advice to Roy Hodgson -

Play the right formation with the players at your disposal and not to force your out-dated thinking on to Liverpool

4-2-3-1 system is Liverpool's best formation with Gerrard in the hole.

Roy Hodgson should go out and buy a midfielder to complement the formation

Freedom of speech

To all those who are telling fans to keep their mouths shut regardless of what they are seeing as this is not 'The Liverpool Way'. I'm sorry but the fact is everyone has the right to their opinion and have the freedom to express it. Football is full of differing opinions and contradictions and this is part of the appeal surely?! They may be right or wrong or you may or may not approve but in no way can you tell someone that they can f*ck off an go elsewhere to support a team if they cannot agree with what they are seeing or otherwise. It could even be said that blind faith is more harmful than benefitial as looking at it from another perspective and addressing the situation could be more benefitial. Such as the end of Rafas tenure or Houilliers.

So come on let people say their piece like you have and deal with it. We arnt all the same but we do all want the best for the club at heart. That's why we post these comments however bizarre.

Not to say i wouldn't be pleased if we sign another good striker, but i really think the priority is the wings here. We have a world class striker already, and i don't mind babel filling in (certainly ahead of ngog), but i think even when our entire team is fit we haven't got enough pace or quality on the wings.
i would go crazy if we signed arda turan, top quality player and i can't work out why that link has seemingly fizzled out. Ed, on a scale of 1 to 10, what do you think the chances are of a late swoop for him? and if not him, who do you think would be a good signing for the wings? {editor's note - I did think he would be a good signing, but I was told on here that he is not highly rated in Turkey, so maybe not. I don't think there is much chance of us buying him to be honest, 2 out of 10 I would say. I would really like Amoo to get a chance myself, Pacheco could cover either wing as well as behind the striker. I don't know if I would really want to buy anyone if I was in charge, I would like to give the youngsters more of a chance and give the team time to bed in and get to understand the style. Then spend a bit in January to fill the gaps if any of the kids are clearly not measuring up.}

Roy is a dock why an earth would he let such promising young players like Dalle valle and alex krozioank leave the club along with 4 million for an old useless player like knochesky who by the way is available on a free next season. Which bears the question is Roys heart here with us or still in london with the whites.

Also why would he let one of the best players at the club go out on loan and keep lucas!

At this rate with players like aqualini and masha leaving and lucas and Knochesky at the club we will be lucky to get a top half position!

The only issue with having annual leave from work is that when you go back you have a few weeks work to do all at once! Haven't had much time to get on here and i didn't even know the Liverpool result until well after midnight on the Friday morning! Still not to worry.

I must say, slightly disappointing when reading the posts on here of the amount of fans who clearly wrote us off after going one behind so early. Come on guys, you really must bite that lip and hold your tongue and look at the bigger picture as it is far bigger than just one result.

To say after the Citeh result that Roy isn't the answer is really disappointing to read and not that supportive. Yes we can come out and say that wsn't impressive or that was worryingly bad but to say everyone is crap says something about your support, which is possibly worse than any one single player performance.

I (bloody lucky for me) started supporting in 1974 when my Dad took me to watch Liverpool, as a kid all i ever knew was success, even if we went one down, there was no panic, it didn't even bother me such was our success. On and on it went with 'Sir' Bob replaced, trophies still landing like a bombing blitz until 1990 when it started to go wrong.

That was a culture shock. But after 'surviving' the Souness era, living through the waste of the Evans era, having to stomach a foreign coach, bringing in foreign crap, never at any stage did i resort to some of the crap spouted on here.

Please can you go by a very simple rule. If you have nothing decent to say, don't say anything. Yes you may be utterely frustrated by players giving the ball away, mistakes, chances missed etc.etc. But refrain from posting for a day then try posting. You may find you sound more like a supporter. If not fickle and Liverpool Football Club never go hand in hand. So i suggest you go elsewhere or learn how to support your team, and quickly.

I am sick of the media 'banging on' about the debt LFC have. They always fail to say that this debt has been piled on the club by H&G with their leveraged buy out in 2007. Hardly ever do you here the media researching the debt that Spanish clubs have(apart from Sunday Times article last weekend). Apparently Real Madrid have debts of £589m, Barcelona £422m, At. Madrid £441m and Valencia £474m. This is much more than Liverpool.

Yeah they always fail to say that Barca took out €150 million loan to cover wages in the closed season. .they are being run sooo well! Madrid have finacial issues but with the municiple that is Madrid always bailing them out with new land etc to sell off it allows them to always look great with finances!

Valencia if they don't sort themselves out soon could be the highest profile club in World football to go under. . . . I quite like the fact they talk about our debt so much. . because when it is cleared they will then turn to UTD!
Anybody notice yet that Zonal marking is not the reason why LFC are leaking goals. . Andy Gray & others banged on about it for so long yet so far this season noner of them said man marking the reason for conceeding. .lol

Kopite70

WHAT REALLY BUGS ME IS THAT HARDLY ANY PRESENTER OR JOURNALIST STATES THE REAL REASON FOR THE DEBTS AT LIVERPOOL I.E THE LEVERGED BUY OUT BY H&G ( ALL THE MONEY THEY USED TO BUY LFC WAS BORROWED FROM THE BANKS AND PUT ONTO THE CLUB) .
THEY ALWAYS SEEM TO INSUATE THAT OUR SITUATION IS LIKE PORTSMOUTHS WHERE WE BOUGHT PLAYERS WE COULD NOT AFFORD.
LIVERPOOL WAS ALWAYS RUN WELL AND HAD VERY LITTLE DEBT.
ONE SUGGESTION AT THE TIME (2007) WAS THAT RAFA WANTED MORE MONEY TO BUY NEW PLAYERS AND HAD A 'HISSY FIT' THREATENING TO WALK OUT(ONE OF MANY TIMES) WHICH FORCED PARRY AND MOORES TO GO WITH H&G OVER DIC WITHOUT DOING ANY RESEARCH INTO HICKS.

Liverpool Rumours
Sheikh mohammed al maktoum the potential owner of lfc. .?

ED could it be true!? (hope it is)

In reply - It was said in 2006/ 2007 that he was a long time supporter of Liverpool and admired the values, ethos and ethics of the club at that time i.e before this was destroyed by H&G.
Sheik Mohammed al Maktoum loves sport (horseracing obviously) and is extremely wealthy. If he buys he will do it with his own personal wealth and not through DIC.

Liverpool's 25 man squad

The new 'home-grown' (HG) rule being introduced to the Premier League this season is designed to help young English players develop while also limiting the amount of foreign players in Premier League

Each club must register at least eight home-grown players

cmid Steven Gerrard
cbk Jamie Carragher
r.wing Glen Johnson
lamid Joe Cole
gk Brad Jones,

qualifies as home-grown, leaving three more HG spaces in the squad which need filling.

rbk Stephen Darby
cmid Jay Spearing,

Former academy duo who have been on the fringes of the first-team in recent seasons, both also look set to be named in the first-team squad as home-grown players. The final spot remains a open one however and Liverpool may find themselves registering less players than the 25 permitted by the Premier League.

the rule

A home grown player is defined as one who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Welsh Football Association for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21).

Ben arfa going to newcastle on season long loan. . Thank god we didn't get him, he is temperamental in the extreme! What do you think the price for meireles is going to be ed? {editor's note - I don't know mate, I don't know anyone in the finances side of Liverpool.}

Newcastle have signed Ben Arfa, Jeff Stelling's JUST annouced it on Sky - so we can finally put that BS rumour to bed.

As for Meireles, delighted! He impressed me in the World Cup so much that I looked to see who he played for and was dismayed to see it was Porto, (I'd hoped he either played for a smaller club we could prise him from, or that he was surplus at a big club).

The fact that until last night he hadn't even been linked to Liverpool just highlights how clueless the press are and that LFC do their business as quietly as possible and yet there's still people harping on about both Diarra's and Inler! Unbelievable.

Finally, regards Lucas, if he DOES wanna go, fine, I'm not a hater but he's a bench option at best - hey, who knows, maybe Porto would like to give us some of the Meireles money back for him as a replacement?

Let's hope we sign players of quality.

Not trash. .

We desperately need

LB looks like Koncheski
CF? ? ?
Winger - Got to be Turan
CM someone who can boss and pass the ball so that rules out Lucas. .
Why not Scharner as he is free and a good solid player who can cover both midfield and defence. .

Come on Woy! !

Up the Reds! ! !

Big Roge. .

Liverpool Rumours
Squad to play West Brom:
Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Agger, Aurelio, Gerrard, Lucas, Kuyt, Torres, Jovanovic, Ngog, Pacheco, Jones, Kelly, Babel, Kyrgiakos, Spearing. Joe Cole, Maxi, Darby to be added to that. 21 players.

So 4 more players are needed. We will be signing 3, and putting 1 youngster in: Ayala.

sorry buddy, Ayala has gone to Hull on loan.

Also, you need to get a better understanding of the new squad rules. . you can have an unlimited number of players U21, of any nationality. . therefore players such as Pacheco, Kelly, Darby, Wilson do not count towards the 25 man squad.

I think that the Raul Morales rumour has highlighted that nobody has really any idea about who is going to come in. The only people who know are board members of LFC and the board members of the target's club. . and i dobut any of those guys are posting on this site!

What do you think of the prospective Meireles deal, Ed., and which striker would you like to see us sign. I think we desperately need more width and would love Turan to come but I don't see it happening. Any thoughts on a winger?

NCS {editor's note - Meireles looks a good player, a step up from Mash on the offensive side, though I am not sure he is as good defensively. I just don't understand the need to buy Poulsen and Meireles myself. The striker I would go for is probably Toivonen of the ones I have seen recently. He looks like he would work well with Torres and could play up front on his own if Torres is out. I don't see players like Ruiz or the others we are linked with as being able to do both. Turan would defo be my choice for the wings, he is desperate to play for Liverpool and has loads of ability, I don't understand why he isn't already at the club to be honest.}

I agree with everything except Turan. . . He isn't even rated inside Turkey< i ahev a few pals (Turkish) in Istanbul and they say he can run with a ball really well and that's it! end ball isn't as good as it could be, 1 in 10 shots goes in! and this si the worst for me. .they say defensively he is crap! can't tackle a kebab let alone a player with a football!

He is also a bit of a sulk as well if he is subbed or worse put on the bench. . .so great talent in his own country but none of my Turkish mates reckon he is prem league standard!
Kopite70 {editor's note - I am only going on what I have seen mate, I am sure they have a better idea of his play than me though. So I will bow to their greater knowledge and be glad that Roy doesn't seem to intend to buy him.}

I wish people would stop making up outlandish rumours and listen to what the gaffer says. Yes, it would be lovely to see Turan or Toivonen coming in, but Hodgson has said he probably won't go for Turan, whilst our financial constraints mean we're unlikely to have the cash for any big player like that this season.

From a Roy Hodgson interview the other day, he said that the host of strikers linked with us (Trezeguet, Gomez, Ruiz) are very unlikely to join, and Kuyt is very unlikely to leave.
From this, it seems clear that Hodgson believes N'Gog, Babel, Pacheco and Kuyt to be ample back-up for Torres for now, and intends to play Kuyt and the impressive Jovanovic on the wings. Looks very unlikely to me that we will make a desperation signing of a striker or winger this late in the window then.

With Mascherano and Aquilani gone, Meireles is looking very likely, and I think that would be a fantastic signing, would give us the option of going defensive:

Poulsen- Meireles
Kuyt- Gerrard- Cole
Torres

or more attacking:

Meireles- Gerrard
Kuyt- Cole- Jova
Torres

The only other player likely to sign before the end of the window is Konchesky, a solid player with a decent cross, whose lack of pace should be covered for by Agger and whose English nationality is a big plus.

Our team should, if all goes to plan, look like this after the window:

Reina
Johnson- Carra- Agger- Konchesky
Meireles- Gerrard
Kuyt- Cole- Jova
Torres

Jones, Gulasci, Kelly, Skrtel, Wilson, Insua, Aurelio, Lucas, Poulsen, Spearing, Babel, El Zhar, Amoo, Eccleston, Pacheco and N'Gog to come in when needed or when they impress.

My chosen bench would be:

Jones, Kelly, Aurelio, Lucas, Pacheco, Babel, N'Gog

(BTW don't expect to see Lucas to be confined to being defensive this season, when played alongisde Poulsen he may well be given the chance to break forward more. Make your own minds up if this is good or bad, but I think he showed definite talent going forward last season and is let down mostly by his defensive mindset rather than lack of skill.)

This isn't ideal for the long run, as we'll need more top players for the bench, personally I'd like to see Kuyt replaced and another striker, and we haven't signed a top-class centre back to replace Carra. It will need building on over the next few seasons, but with the young talent coming through, and the decent squad depth compared to last season, I can certainly see us breaking back into the top 4 over the next couple of seasons, which is, after all, the aim.

With a possible transfer record of:

IN:

Cole
Wilson
Jovanovic
Poulsen
Jones
Konchesky
Meireles

OUT:

Cavalieri
Aquilani (1 year loan)
Nemeth
Mascherano (unavoidable really)
Dalla Valle (loan)

it's hard to argue that Hodgson would not, on paper at least, have improved LFC this summer.

Anybody notice yet that Zonal marking is not the reason why LFC are leaking goals. . Andy Gray & others banged on about it for so long yet so far this season noner of them said man marking the reason for conceeding. .lol

Paul Konschenky will be a good signing for Liverpool. He has years of Premier league experience and will no doubt add dept to the LFC sqad especially at the right back position.

It is this type of player that Liverpool needed last season. Too much was expected of young players that could not handle the pressure due to inexperience.

Other signings such as Joe Cole will add reasurance and to the team and this will in turn increase confidence in the team.

Glad Masch is gone, he will be missed but Lfc don't need players that lower the team morale. This could be why Lfc played badly against Man city.

do I think Roy will buy a top class striker. .no, he seems obsessed with older players, they are OK in Italy where the game is slower and experience counts, but no good in EPL. Our best hope is he goes for Zamora. . wow that will make us competitive!

THIS GREAT CLUB DOES NOT NEED IDIOTS LIKE YOU - TAKE A STEP BACK AND LOOK AT WHAT THE CLUB IS GOING THROUGH AND WHAT NO DOUBT HODGSON HAS TO PUT UP WITH - - YOU CANNOT ATTRACT WORLD CLASS PLAYERS TO A CLUB THAT IS NOT IN THE 'PREMIER' EUROPEAN COMPETITION AND HAS NOT REAL CHANCE (IN THE SHORT TERM) OF WINNING THIER DOMESTIC LEAGUE SO, IN THE MEAN TIME, WE WILL HAVE TO MAKE DO AND SUPPORT POTENTIALLY 'LESSER' PLAYERS COMING INTO THE CLUB.

YOUNGER PLAYERS COST MORE AND HAVE MORE AMBITION, THEREFORE WE WILL NEED TO BUY OLDER PLAYERS, BUT THIS BRINGS THE ADDED BONUS OF EXPERIENCE, AND THAT IS JUST WHAT WE NEED AT THE MOMENT - IN MY VIEW, IT WILL MEAN HODGSON WILL RISK PLAYING SOME OF OUR YOUNGER 'STARS', AS HE IS AWARE THEY HAVE THE OLDER EXPERIENCED HEADS BACKING THEM UP AND GUIDING THEM ALONG THE WAY.

SO PLEASE, GO SUPPORT ANOTHER TEAM - THE CLUB (REGARDLESS OF WHO OWNS OR MANAGES IT) NEEDS REAL FANS AT THE MOMENT - NO MOANERS OR INDIVIDUALS WITH NO GRIP ON REALITY.

REMEMBER - YNWA - IT MEANS SOMETHING TO REAL FANS!

When are people going to stop with these claims that Torres is now making transfer decisions at LFC, or that he's threatened to leave unless a certain named player signs for LFC, or similar? How could anyone ever 100% guarantee that a certain player would be signed, especially when the LFC transfer budget is so small and those of other clubs are so large?
I know it must give you a little buzz to think some idiots are taken in by this, but to be honest, its just annoying and a waste of everyone's time.
I love your statement about Meireles ("did not see that one coming. ").
LOL. No kidding. Well you better tell your source at the CIA to get his act together, eh?

I did not post the original comment, but Torres has been well documented as stating he would like a player in the mould of Mata to join the reds and, as one of the clubs prized assets, why would the manager not listen to him? The best person to know why 'type' of player can provide him with the required service would surely be the player himself -and whilst I do not believe he would attempt to tell the manager who to sign, I have no doubt he would have been asked for recomendations - Thats how the football world works!

So, before you get all bitchy, think a little please - It makes sense to court the opinion of your leading players - its called 'man management', something Rafa never had.

And, by the way, Mata IS on the radar and Lucas is highly thought of in Spain, so who knows !

considering the fact that if the club is not sold by october 6th the bank will repocess the club because there is no refinancing package left for the yanks, so they will not be our owners any longer.

and ed ive heard that if the bank do repocess us we get a 9 point deduction is there any truth in that? ?

Now I was pleased when we appointed Roy. Experienced, dignified, intelligent and obviously did a smashing job at Fulham. Plus I despised Benitez as a coach and a man (charitable donations excepted).

The only thing that has disappointed me about RH's reign so far is his pleading with Kuyt to stay. Can't control a ball, can't pass, no pace, bad decision maker, poor crosser. . £15m?? FIFTEEN MILLION?? ? GET HIM OUT! Only Rafa would be stupid enough to pay £15m for a crap 30-year-old who most Dutch fans didn't rate as good enough for the Prem (how right they were!).

Oh yeah, but he works hard (which of us wouldn't if we played for Liverpool?) Hard work is the minimum required of a pro footballer - it doesn't compensate for a complete lack of talent.

Who's with me? Kuyt out! (it rhymes).

The worst journalist for making quite 'nasty' remarks about Liverpool and the fans is Rob Shepherd of the NOTW. He is a West Ham fan (I hope they go down this year). He is always making anti LFC 'digs' when reviewing the sports pages on the Press previes on Alan Brazil Breakfast on Talksport. He gets plenty of encouragement from the former ManUtd player Brazil and his idiot sidekick Ronnie Irani (ManUtd fan and the average cricketer who believes he was 'one ofthe best' - just read his book to see). {editor's note - I have never even heard of Ronnie Irani, but I wouldn't give talksh*te the time of day myself. It is the radio equivalent of the S*n. By the way, someone suggested that this site did an internet radio station and I just wondered if anyone else would be interested in that, only I don't want to put in all the hours of research if no one would listen to it! Though I was thinking more along the lines of doing it for the whole football-rumours site, with sections for each club and league etc.}

I RECKON THAT WOULD BE BRILLIANT. ALSO VERY POPULAR. WOULD NEED LOTS OF ADVERTISING, I ONLY FOUND THIS WONDERFUL SITE BY CHANCE, TRYING TO FIND OUT SOME TAKEOVER INFO. {editor's note - if the people who use the sites will listen, then that would be enough people to make it worth the effort in my opinion. Just don't want to waste my time setting it up if none of you would want to listen!}

I see rafa is working his magic with inter. ha. good bye. roy should go for eto. i think he might want a new challenge. what do you think editor? {editor's note - great player, but another one with attitude, not sure it is what the club needs right now. Plus his wages are obscene, would be out of our price range.}

28 Aug 2010 10:02:12
I know it's frustrating not knowing whats going on at our club, but when news does come, completely out of the blue, isn't in great to know that Roy has gone back to the way it should be, all kept indoors the Liverpool way! If it is true and we are signing Raul Meireles, not one person saw this coming, and if any other club would have known they would have shown interest and his price would have risen!

TO WHOEVER SAID THIS:

''We will be addiing Konchesky, M Diarra, R Meireles, R Wolfswinkel and O Toivonen by the end of transfer window.

This is going to be our team for 2010/ 2011
GK: Reina/ Jones
RB: Darby/ Johnson
RFB: Carragher/ Kyrgiakos/ D.Wilson
LFB: Agger/ Skrtel/ Kelly/ Irwin
LB: Konchesky/ Aurelio
DMF: M Diarra/ Poulsen/ Spearing
AMF: R Meireles/ Lucas/ J Shelvey
RW: R Wolfswinkel/ Jovanovic/ Pacheco
LW: Gerrard/ Kuyt/ Maxi
CF: Torres/ O Toivonen/ J Cole/ Babel/ Ngog

We are going to win the following trophies & cups this year (2010/ 2011)
1. FA Cup,
2. Carling Cup
3. Europa Cup
4. English Premier League''

YOU HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT FOOTBALL OR LIVERPOOL

1) GERRARD, KUYT AND MAXI ARE NOT LW. GERRARD IS THE BEST CM IN THE WORLD SO WHY WOULD HE PLAY ON THE LEFT?

2) COLE IS NOT A CF. NOR IS BABEL, HE WILL PLAY ON THE LEFT, SECOND CHOICE TO JOVANOVIC

3) PACHECO IS A STRIKER, SO IS VAN WOLFSWINKLE. THEY ARE NOT WINGERS

4) SOMEHOW, WE CANNOT FIT 30 MEN IN A 25-MAN SQUAD(!). SOME OF THESE PROBABLY DON'T EVEN TRAIN WITH THE FIRST TEAM, LIKE IRWIN.

SO IF YOU TRULY WANT US TO WIN THESE 4 TROPHIES, THEN YOU SHOULD HOPE ROY DOESN'T PLAY PEOPLE IN THE POSITIONS YOU'VE PICKED FOR THEM!

YNWA {editor's note - players under the age of 21 don't count towards the 25 man squad limit, unless teams include them to reach their 8 home grown players quota.}

Henry Winter of the Telegraph is an excellent journalist who admires the ethos of Liverpool and wasn't 'pulled in ' by the whole Kenny Huang bid rumours unlike the discredited Times and their supposed Liverpool fan Tony Evans.

Ed what papers do you like the most? {Editor's Note..I rarely buy a paper, but I do post responses on some of the journalists web pages. Martin Samuel at the Daily Mail writes some drivel at times. Only Henry Winter gets any respect from me}

Amazing how excited fans get when we sign anyone. . Raul Meireles? 27? I don't know about this one to be honest. Enough with the central midfielder now we still got Lucas, Poulson, Gerrard and now this guy. Really it's giving Gerrard the license to push forward but we can't just rely on him we need a world class winger and striker. 10.7 Million gone and Konchesky looks like that's going through which will be around 3 million so we got 5 million left plus funds raised from selling the other flops to get a striker and a winger. I hope he does well biggest mess up was letting Aquilani go on loan and now he wants to stay over there so we will be losing 4-5 million when Juventus sign him for 13.1 million. Seriously need to sell Lucas and get Ever Banega and also I don't think the rumours are very accurate in the papers who saw this coming? If were gonna sign 1 more player i think a really good winger should be bought and give Babel his time to gel with Torres, they look like they would be a good partnership but Babel hardly plays don't know if its his fitness or something. We definitely ain't saved at all with this signing just another signing in a position that Gerrard could play in. We should get Van Der Vaart in my opinion or Arda Turan maybe even Bryan Ruiz and play a 4-2-3-1 formation. Im still not convinced till we sign some fire power. What you think Ed?

Raul Meireles has just signed, this is just the boost Liverpool need after a few days of uncertainty regarding the quality of the squad. Let me tell you, this guy is brilliant, and 10 mil is an absolute coup. I'm pretty stoked right now, did not expect this calibre, roy must have known this for a while and only now surprised us with it. If we can combine this with a new striker and maybe a left back, thinks are starting to look up

Now that liverpool football club can no longer compete on price for estlished world class players.

Is the football club going to change their purchasing strategy and concentrate on youth

In 2005 Arsene Wenger started purchasing younger youth players and playing them in the team. He is willing to give players a chance and will only spend large amounts of money if he finds someone special.

Plus he made a profit in the transfer market buying and selling.

liverpool football need to copy Arsenals setup

Its time we started producing home grown players & Steven Gerrard is 30 years old. we are really stuggling to get english players through to first team

I want to start seeing more english players at the club.

The premiership mirrors the problems facing this country. We can't let better skilled foreign people take all our jobs because we don't want to give our youth a chance.

youth unemployment is at record numbers, but yet we still import the skills lacking instead of training our own people.

This attidute of cheap finance import the skills needed needs to stop. The supporters need to change as well as the club

We can't keep spending and at the end of the day the english are left with nothing.

The country and the people need to change. Im sick of it. Sick of not getting the job

im sick of footballers who can't speak a word of english.

Konchesky is about as solid as a piece of bolser wood! But anyone who thinks he is a good stop gap are as thick as 2 short planks! Money must not be that tight if RH can waste it on this fella, he is in no way better than what we already have. No amount of Sky Sports followers on here can believe he's a footballer. Does no one ever watch these matches without having their own opinion on a player nowadays? I'd rather us keep the money.
Early days it is for RH but until we start doing the business on the pitch im not impressed. Its RH who has to impress us and Im too long in the tooth to be patient or impressed by impassioned words of getting back to the old anfield way of doing things. To be linked with this kind of player is demoralising. If you are so disillusioned into believing we will benefit from such potential signings then so be it. I wake every morning in the hope of some good news bestowed upon my club. This is not the news I was looking for this morning!

BREAKING NEWS : Liverpool have moved quickly to replace Javier Mascherano by agreeing a £10.7m package with Porto tonight for the Portugal international Raul Meireles.

28 Aug 2010 00:23:09
No one seen this one, yes I did paste it.

Liverpool have moved quickly to replace Javier Mascherano by agreeing a £10.7m package with Porto tonight for the Portugal international Raul Meireles.

Meireles, one of Portugal's more impressive players in the World Cup, is understood to have agreed personal terms and, if everything goes according to plan, the deal will be completed over the weekend, dependent on the 27-year-old passing a medical examination.

The transfer was rushed through this evening after Mascherano finally got his wish to leave Anfield, joining Barcelona in a £20m deal that freed up the money for Liverpool to bring in a cheaper replacement.

Meireles is available for a low fee because he only has two years of his contract left and Porto have been trying to sell him rather than risk losing him on a free transfer in the future.

The player has been prominently linked with Manchester United over the past month but does not fit into the club's policy under the Glazer family of not signing players for big money if they are aged 26 or above, Dimitar Berbatov being the exception to the rule.

Liverpool do not operate with such restrictions and the manager Roy Hodgson will hope Meireles can make his debut in the league game at Birmingham City tomorrow week.

Liverpool being linked with Medel, and I'm a Chilean living in Argentina, so I see a lot of him. This guy is class, quick, tough, can tackle, and will put his heart out for any team. He also chips in with a few goals, a new element that Ma$cherano didn't exactly bring too often. .other names being put about are Konchesky, cousin in England says a reasonable player, solid, not fantastic. Diarra-brilliant for Real, then money came into play and he was pushed out by Alonso and L Diarra. Toivonen-don't know much of him, decent scoring record. Would like to see the Agueros and the Higuains of this world come, but honestly, let's be realistic! Anyway, if someone says Arda Turan one more time on this website, realize that he's not coming.

Give it a year or so, Milner pee'd off with not being played regularly, we'll pick him up for a quarter of what he went to Citeh for. Good shout to the guy who said Parker in this window. Think would be a good short term replacement before Milner and Shelvey become our central partnership for this decade.
Come on Redmen, finish at least fourth this season with a mind-blowing, memorable Europa Cup final in Dublin. Imagine, Believe. YNWA.

Just what is going on with WOY and Konchesky. Please no he is carp and that's being kind to the lad. We may as well keep Insua and keep the reported 4 million were splashing out. Is this why Woy has never been succesful in his long career in management. These are not the type of signings that are going to inspire Fernando and Stevie G to stay at the club for next season. Poulson and Konchesky not only are they both average at best but their both the wrong side of 30. We are going to struggle big time to finnish in the top 4 this season fact

Liverpool Rumours
Right, Dalla Valle has signed for Fulham but there is a catch. . He has a £8m buy out clause that if activated, Liverpool have the option to match the £8m and talk to the player first. Source - Rick Parry

why don't we just keep him and loan him out for a couple of years! !

Liverpool to sign Konchesky and Meireles by Monday, possibly one or two more. I have heard from a friend that we may have been taken over and that we have bid 15 mil for parker, but he was probably having me on. Anyway Konchesky and Meireles will be LFC players next year!

Will everybody please stop complaining about Dalla Valle? It's well-documented that players who stand out at 16, 17 might come to nothing, whilst players who were in their shadow at those ages come to the fore.

Christopher Buchtman was one of THE stars of the U17's tournament a few years back, then we sold him to Fulham after he failed to make the grade at reserves level and now they've let him go to Cologne for nothing.

Dalla Valle shone at the academy but looked very ordinary in the reserves and never warranted a starting berth at that level despite a lack of natural young strikers at the club. In short, he's not what we'd hoped, so stop bitching cos he's going.

In this day and age, truly top-drawer starlets, wonderkids, call them what you will, should be standing out at all levels on route to the first team AND be doing so at a young age - watch our reserves this season, I bet those that stand out will be amongst the youngest representatives, Sterling, Suso, maybe even Silva.

Here's hoping that, as well as 2-3 new faces coming into the club, Woy continues to wean out the no-hoper kids that are standing in the way of the true talents.

Lee J"

Quite frankly the most sensible post i've read, top drawer mate.

Oh and while we're on the subject of complaining, i was as adamant as anyone that we should sign Salcido long before Aurelio re-signed, but it's worth noting that as good as he looks, Dossena was considered the best LB in Italy before he joined us - not everyone shines in the Prem and perhaps Hodgson is playing it safe with Konchesky who has experience of the league and he knows he can work with.

With Mascherano gone for about 17.25m, the deal for Konchesky will be completed for about 2.25m over the next few days. The club then expect the 10m deal for Toivonen to go through, but will pressure PSV into a quick decision so we have time to change target if it is rejected. Diarra is a possible signing for around 5-6m, but Hodgson will look to bring in a creative midfielder (VDV?) on loan having let Aquilani leave.
