ED, will gerrard play again for livepool? I live in skerries road in anfield and drink in the arkles pub, and alot of the old men in ther think he is finished? {Ed028's Note - He's not finished, he will be back in a few weeks, hopefully}

While i don't think he's finished, i think it will be overly hopeful to see the Gerrard of old again. My opinion is that he won't be as active in the team as he used to be.

Hi Eds. Do we think theres any truth in the Sturridge links?
I really feel we need more firepower to keep up our momentum so far.
Not sure who we'l get between Sturridge or Bellamy, but both would give us scintilating pace in attack.
Dont know Ruiz at all,so im glad wer'e looking to a prem proven striker.

Kermit {Ed028's Note - I think there's a passing interest but no move has been made in this window, Ruiz is a class act}

Reds,

Watched the game a couple times. Really exciting stuff. I am always worried when we sign so many people but it looks like they are gelling. What a midfield. Lucas was a magician. I wouldn't have masch back if it was on a free. Lucas lit the place up.

Just wanted to say I love good football and it's even better when Liverpool win playing good football. Adam and Lucas are quite a pairing. Who would have thought? Oh ya. Kenny did. Genius. That win was the best birthday present ever. Can't tell my lady that but it's true.

Cheers mates. Great times ahead. Respect to the eds.

Not really a rumour but from the LFC website first team page I count between 18 and 21 over 21 players to be considered for the Prem squad this season. As far as I remember the rules, 25 over 21s and as many under 21 home growns as you want, right?

So if you don't consider Cole, Poulsen and N'gog as part of a Prem squad then we have 18, 21 if you do.

Room for 4 - 7 more seniors there......

Yeah fairly small squad but a key group of core players is sufficient if backed by talented youth.

Henderson, Kelly and I think Coates will both be making the leap next year to senior plus 21's, which makes 21. Aurelio likely to move on, so that's us back to 20.

Sterling, Flanno, Coady and Robinson all likely to appear regularly before the age of 21. As will Suso, Shelvey and potentially Morgan and N'Goo.

Overall based on that I'd say yes to an experienced striker and come Jan/summer 2012 a world class winger would be wonderful.

Papa G

We still need Gago(c/dm) in there or Lodeiro(am) from ajax along with coates and a striker

I, like everyone else, am absolutely overwhelmed by our performance yesterday. We had a lot of possession, good movement off the ball and brilliant, quick football.

However, I do feel the real test is soon to come. You can bet that Stoke at the Brittania will not be easy, nor will the trip to Tottenham I fear (I know they're not in the best of form at the moment, but I still wouldn't write them off.)

Then, after the game against Wolves, we go to Everton, who will try their upmost hardest into beating us, and therefore won't go down without a fight. Then, we face the real problem, Man United. This pains me to say but they're playing really really well this season, and could be a real struggle. Of course, they do have one weakness, De Gea is up there with the worst keepers I've ever layed eyes upon.

So what I'm saying guys, we're still in for a tough ride as of yet, if we do keep up this form however, we have a very good chance of the trophy ;)

Pete

I am salivating at the thought of Caroll and Felaini wrestling for the ball... sparks will fly...

Hi eds. Whats the deal with park chu young. Do u think we stand a chance of him being are 3rd choice.

Do you think we going to dip into the asian market as surely with shirt sales they would effectively be a free transfer. {Ed028's Note - I'm not too sure, the interest seems to have dropped}

Hes on his way to arsenal, wenger confirmed it during his post matc interview today.

Ed been hearing 2 more people will sign after coates. one of them could be Nicolás Lodeiro, you heard anything on this? pops {Ed028's Note - Nothing on Lodeiro, sorry}

Magical player Lodeiro is, I wish..
rhI

Coates plus Lodeiro plus Sturridge...that would be magic...

ed i dont normally get carried away with random people telling stories but do think daniel sturridge is a possibility because im falling in love with the idea and chelsea are over crowded in that area and he will want playing time.
Dark knite- Thanks!

having spent so much money ( not complaining some great signings, be nice if we could actually sell some of the surplus players and not just send them on loan, might ease the wage bill but generating some money might mean another player or two before Wednesday, whats everyone think?? love the site read it every day thanks ed {Ed028's Note - Your welcome from all}

28 Aug 2011 21:32:11
just an opinion guys ,the coates deal is pretty much done just waiting on permits think he'll be a great addition to the team, but we are looking a bit weak on the right unless were waiting on glen johnson to get fit and push him in front of kelly but kuyt is doin a great job there at the mo

28 Aug 2011 22:19:28
After having watched today's two games and seeing how two of our rivals for top 4 crushed by the other two of our rivals for the same top 4, i firmly believe that if there is money still available, we should bring in more high quality players for the attack, midfield and the defense.

We dare not be complacent by telling ourselves that we no longer need to spend in this window because - judging from the quality of the squad of the two above us at the moment - we clearly do need to continue strengthening our squad.

What most fans need to understand is that we need a full 26 man squad of first team starters that would make the team very strong no matter who is fielded.

We cannot afford to have only 1st eleven of first teamers and then have back ups of lesser qualities if we really want to secure a top 4 spot.

So keep spending, Comolli/Kenny! Spend!

BooDaBooze

City and United are not our rivals for the top 4. They will almost certainly be 1 and 2 (order doesn't matter), possibly Chelsea could compete with them but that's it. We are competing for 4th with Arsenal and Spurs (and I think Villa will go for it as well). We need to finish above them and then build to challenge for the title. I don't see us as title challengers yet, it would take a huge effort from the players to become title challengers. It could happen but right now we should be thinking of only top 4, and should be very pleased about today's results

Red Ollie

To Red Ollie who's trying to be realistic with our goals but at the same time getting carried away with Utd and City after 3 games.
Totally disagree! The Liverpool way re-introduced by King Kenny is a hugely successful team formula first laid down by none other than Bill Shankly so we will see what the season brings. As Shankly said to be the best you first of all have to believe your the best.
kidmillions

Very good point, but do you believe we are the best right now.

A winning mentality is developed over a period of time.

I think thing to remember although the season is still early City/United have a midfield/strike force full of goals.

What do you think?

Chelski don't look convincing, we will do better than them...

KingLFC

It is all good trying to be "realistic" in the goals we set, but as Shankly once said, "if you aim for the ceiling, you stay on the floor." Kenny will be aiming for the moon, folks, so fasten your seat belts.

BooDaBooze

F**k 4th place, thats the very least we should settle for, we would have 9 pts too if andys goal stood in our first game, should of had 6 goals at bolton, yeah sh**ty and manure look deadly but so do we, with coates signing i think we can win the league as long as suarez stays fit. the KING is working his majic again and winning EVERYTHING is what L.F.C is all about. I am sure kk and the boys are aiming for 1st and some silver. Y.N.W.A KINGKENNYKOP7

After seeing a lot of people talk lately about Citeh becoming dominant, I wonder if they've taken into account that we don't have the warmest of winters? The last thing City's foreign players will want to do on a freezing December tuesday night after playing 4 games in the last 10 days is run around the pitch for 90 minutes with nothing to protect them but their flimsy gloves. I think that'll be the difference between the two Manc clubs, as Man Ure have a lot of British players, which will play into their hands (unfortunately). However, this could be potentially beneficial for us, with our vast amount of British talent in our squad. Winter may well become our strong point for the season. Just another random thought in my head, but I really think that's where Citeh will struggle...

A.C.

Who will that affect exactly? Most of their foreign players have played here for at least a season. I doubt it will affect Savic...perhaps it could hinder Aguero but Spain's weather isn't always like it is on your holidays you know...

Red Ollie {Ed028's Note - It's actually quite cold and miserable, I would know!}

I was thinking the same thing today watching Citeh. Snoods and gloves and probably tights. More to the point I think it the lack of games in Europe this year that will stand us in good stead. It will allow us to take the domestic cups seriously too which I know KK has respect for.

Chi-Paul

I live in mallorca and believe me its not that hot here in the winter

I quite agree with Red Ollie. Walcott would be a very good striker, instead of a winger. He's finishing is top notch. If he can get goals from the wings, i am sure he'd score a lot more goals if positioned more directly in front of the goal post.

BooDaBooze

28 Aug 2011 22:05:12
who are theses buffon liverpool fans?, walcott you tossers, i would rather have el zhar, listen liverpool have bought well so far, and hopefully will contintue too, not buying head less crap who has no final ball, we are moving on upwards now , kk is trying to get rid of the dead wood, we dont want dead wood adding to it thank you!!!!!

Walcott's 22. He's been played out of position on the wing for Arsenal. He's fast enough to beat any defender in the league for pace. He has a good finish, not consistent enough to be a top striker maybe, but let's not forget he's only 22. When we're struggling to break down a defence, what better sub to have? Or what better player to run off the last man, allowing Suarez to patrol behind him and allowing Adam and Henderson to play the balls in behind? Taking into account likely cost, wages and possibility of transfer, I think he'd be the perfect target

Red Ollie

28 Aug 2011 21:26:57
I think the only players we actually missed out on this transfer window were Young, Jones and Clichy. The rest were simply rumours or players we enquired about in case we missed our first targets.
Personally, I'm delighted we missed out on Clichy and signed Enrique. Better defensively, better going forward, and developing a real understanding with Downing.
I also think Downing fits our needs better than Young. He just looks like a Liverpool player with his committment and energy. He is a team player who gives 100% every minute he is on the pitch. Young is a quality player, and I would have been happy if we'd signed him. But I think he is more MOTD than LFC compared to Downing.
I was disappointed when we missed out on Jones, as I think he is an outstanding young talent. But having watched replays of Coates in the Copa America, I think we may have got the better deal. Coates is like David Luiz, in that he is comfortable on the ball, is technically good, has a good range of passes and can score goals. The difference is that Coates is 6'6" and can defend.
Jones has EPL experience while Coates will take time to adjust to the league. Once he does adjust, I think we will have an exceptional talent to add to our team.
Well done KD & DC.
Red Steve

I agree 100 per cent about Coates. He's class and reminds me of Emlyn Hughes. Now most of you don't remember him but I do and still regard him as among the top ten players in a Liverpool shirt.

Crazy Horse was a fantastic player. I also admire him as he once told a bloke I worked with to F##k Off when ratted. I hated the bloke I worked with!
RIP Emlyn

ed a lot of ppl are geting very carried away its geting very silly.just because dc was at the match does not mean were geting any arsenal players.why would they sell there best players the situation there in.lets get real

ste liverpool {Ed007's Note - That's what I said Ste, can't see any Utd/LFC deals happening and Arsenal will do everything to hold onto what they have just now, I would be shocked if any more of Arsenal's big name players left.}

You never know! it's a funny old game football!

28 Aug 2011 21:09:30
I would love it... LOVE IT if we put a cheeky last day bid for Walcott/Van Persie.

They are the only 2 players I would take from the sinking ship that is Arsenal.

Can you imagine Van Persie linking up with Suarez? It really would be phenomenal. However, very unlikely I feel... unless we offer Carroll in a swap deal haha!

However, Walcott on the other hand, young, talented and English- exactly what our transfer policy states right? AND he is a boyhood Liverpool fan. Combine that with the mess Arsenal are in, I reckon he could be persuaded....

More hope than expectation though I feel....

Are the people who are very quiet about Henderson now, the same people who were vocal about Lucas eight months ago? and have given up on that topic...

The joys of anonimity. See my name at the bottom? if your gonna be a keyboard warrior, just sign your name. It would help my blood pressure no end if I knew that januarys Lucas bashers turned out to be augusts henderson/carroll bashers. I think weve all covered the topic of being allowed to share our opinions. But stand by them. Try and spell your name.

I've seen a few threads and posts online after the weekends games stating how are we going to beat Utd and City etc etc, why in the hell are we worrying?!!

Both sides so far have impressed, but the results have been flattering in my opinion and both can be turned over at the back (less so with Utd when Ferdinand and Vidic return) and can be got at and exploited. Add to this the fact that the game is run in midfield, look at ours compared to what they have faced! We have diverse, quality, hardworking midfielders which will run riot or at the very least numb the attacking threat of both. Our defence is also top notch with Agger fit and the balance of Enrique on the left has made so much difference!

Add our attacking options inc Gerrard and we're as good a match for any of them!

The question shouldn't be how are we going to beat Utd and City, the question is how are they going to beat us. We mostly do well against the better sides, its the mid/lower place teams we need to be putting to the sword every game, which we will starting at the Britannia!

Roll on Stoke,

The A man

I agree what we have to remember is that of the 4 games we have to play against the manc sides we should come away with 2 home wins we just have to make sure we win as many games against the others as we can, forget dropping points on sloppy draws go for the throat and kick ass from the off even sunderland should have been a win. get off the backs of carroll henderson and any one else who might be havin a bad time, they need our support not a slaggin off

Saw some great goals today in the 2 big games, but I was just thinking if it wasn't for a great save, Suarez to Downing would have been a beauty. That being said, I think Spudz and Arsenal are tosh at the moment. Utd and Citeh looked great going forward but both are suspect at the back. Van Der Vart has become what I always thought he was, slow and lazy. When Utd play a team with 2 good full backs we'll see their lack of a creative player in the engine room. Great performance yesterday from the lads.

Liverpool are NOT looking for a right sided midfielder as henderson is playing there now and that would be Stevie G's position when he gets back. There is no chance Adam or Lucas will be dropped to the bench.
Its likely that we will put in a cheeky bid for Van Persie. He has nothing left at Arsenal now that nasri and fabregas moved on. He'll be wanting out as well. There could be a bid for walcott but that would be for him as a striker(suarez backup) and not a winger.

Stevie G would feel as if he's gotten transfered.... When he gets back it he'd be in an almost entirely new team.

Not so sure we miss him so much these days, great player but nice to know we can do it without him it'll be interesting to see how he fits in now

He'd fit like a glove!

28 Aug 2011 19:33:14
I personnaly do not think Alcott has the vision to fit in. He tends to have his head down to much and therefore makes poor decisions. If I am wrong and we buy him then I will cheer him all the way and trust kk and DC

Big Andy needs start scoring goals for fun! He has to take the responsibility when or if Suarez is not playing or got injured or even if he is playing. We cannot completely rely on Luis to create the movements of brilliance.

Looking at how everything is going on at the moment we have more than enough chance of getting into that top for position. Spurs will be going down as is Arsenal & we have to take the best of chances we get!
Jordan, Enrique, Adam, Downing, all of them are looking lively & looks they have bed in pretty quickly! Hope they gets better & better as time goes on.
We have to aim for the top but as Henry mentioned we lack one or two quality players with respect to a title winning team. Top four & some silverware (Carling or FA cup) will be more than enough for me, but that elusive 19th title must be high on the agenda no matter how far we are!

Regarding transfers! Coatez as planned will be a massive coup for the defense. Think time for old Carra to move to the bench. In my opinion we should try for Adam Johnson, & another all round attacker in the mould of Stevie G & Suarez would be perfect. But we must target top world class quality not average premier league quality.

People are saying we need more flair players or star players. Well obviously the more star type players you have the better. Its not always possible to just go out and buy great players, especially when you dont offer Champs League. But what we do have is a team where we have guys who can do different things that should and have work well together.

Obviously it starts with Suarez who as an overall creative offensive player considering his own ability to score and to create for other players is up there with anyone not named Messi.

Then to team with him up front we have Carroll or Kuyt. Carroll is the prototypical center forward who can use his physical prowess to draw defenders to him, score some himself and create space for Suarez. Kuyt is a guy who works like crazy and does alot of the dirty work to make it easier on the other players. Right now there is no doubt that Suarez and Kuyt are the better combo, but as the year goes on and Carroll plays more and gains confidence and finds his role either of these guys should work well in combo with Suarez.

Then we have a true winger like Downing who can stay wide, use his pace to get behind fullbacks and cross it in.

In the middle we have a defensive player in Lucas who breaks up opposing attacks and lays the ball off to the more creative players.

Next to him is Adam who can sit deep, control the game and make the key passes.

The other midfield spot is currently manned by henderson but likely will be by Gerrard when he returns. This is a player who needs to be versatile. Who can play wide and put in crosses, can come centrally and help defend and who can surge into the box and score goals as well. We know Gerrard can do all this.

Not all of those players are stars but a couple of them are and the rest all have something about their game that is world class. They can all perfectly fill a role that Kenny needs them to fill. When the side gets fit in the front six we will have either Carroll or Kuyt on the bench, Henderson on the bench, Meireles on the bench, Maxi on the bench. Thats alot of quality on the bench.

So eventhough we dont have a star at every spot we have a player in every role who can do that role extremely well. We may not have an All Star team like Man City, but what we do have is a team.

Agreed mate. Carroll needs to play better now. He is probably the only concern we all can have on the field. Hope, he'll start proving his worth. Another striker with Coates, would be great.

Not a rumour but just a wondering. who agrees that with me that with Arsenal having lost their good players, Chelsea without Drogba for who knows how long therefore using Torres instead, Tottenham just generally playing poor, Man U dominating (pains me to say that), Man City with massive paychecks, and Liverpool always on the up, that the top 3 (no particular order) will include the two Manchester clubs and us?

Suarez in world class & quickly become our talisman, however, I didn't like his attitude when substituted & at the end of the game going straight down the tunnel without thanking the fans that sung his name & cheered his excellent contribution.

I dont agree with other posters that it passion its putting himself 1st before the team. I really hope these are not the signs of self importance like a past striker. I hope KK left his ears stinging with a quiet word "no1 is bigger than this club son"

Jimbob

He didn't go straight down the tunnel get ya facts right, also he was frustrated at not scoring

He was annoyed that he didn't score. I was at the game and you could tell by his body language on the pitch that he was desperate to score and so frustrated not to have got a chance in the 2nd half. Great attitude to have if you ask me

Red Ollie

I said at the end of the game. Read the post in full. So have a bit of respect, instead of aggressive replies.

A agree with the OP. Kenny should check such behaviour before it gets out of hand. We don't want a petulant player on our roaster no matter how good.

I've always been of the view that, for us to achieve our CL objective, we should aim to be closer to number one and a considerable distance clear off fourth place. So, and I'll get stick (or, more likely-- knowing this place-- abuse) for this, I reckon it's been a good weekend for LFC, and can get even better.

* we're third, 2 points off first place
* we're level on points with Chelsea- who title contenders
* we're 7 points clear off Spurs- a Champions League rival
* tomorrow we'll in all probability be 6 clear off Arsenal- a Champions League rival
* our goal difference is +4
* Spurs are 7 goals in the red (-7)
* Arsenal's is -2 and could well be worse after their game tonight

So at this stage, in this vein, Liverpool is consolidating its Champions League place with an outside chance of 2nd.

Better still, should we go into our game against United at Anfield with them still ahead of us by 2 points, we could overtake and go one point clear off them.
Depending on other results, this will see us being first, 2nd or still third.
Regardless, our place in the CL place will still be well consolidated.

Next two games (Stoke and Spurs) will be key, extremely. (Spurs will be a six pointer.) Win both we've put ourselves in a good position to toppled United. Moreover, we further bolt well clear of Spurs and Arsenal.

Hover round the top three and take whatever opportunity at a title shot that presents itself.

This is a far practical and realistic way. You're simply NOT going to win all games regardless of how many moons you aim for. Anyone who thinks otherwise is quite frankly naive.

You've to have a practical plan which clearly sets outs your targets. That plan has to make/have leeway or margin for error.

I remember how Joe Cole, when he signed last year, told of how Chelsea target/expect a certain number of their points from and where they'd expect less than satisfactory results.
Target wins at X, Y, Z and expect to drop points at A, B and C.

Saying "why not target/expect wins from every match" might be good for purposes of ego and bullishness but certainly's not of any practical help.

So, I'm thrilled by the way things have been going. In this vein, a return to CL football is a lot close than most think.

*rupertnorth'sxpertanalysis*

Exactly mate, good start so far, we can't win them all but if we
win 25 = 75
draw 9 = +9
lose 4
84 points
75-80 and CL spot is ours

Mr Link up,1 Suarez in better then Kun. 2, I watched Suarez link up with Kuyt,Kuyt linked up with Henderson who linked up with Adam who linked up with Downing then Lucas and so on and so forth. We aint never gonna find a once in a genaration player like Suarez so get that one out of your head. And just because we've got such an outstanding player in Suarez, no way are we a one man team anymore ala Gerrard. We'd miss him,who wouldn't but we've got players like Raul,Maxi and Carroll on the bench, and with Coates immenent arrival, our squad is stronger then its been in years and i mean years. Better squad then the team that finished second in Rafa's last good season. Jonson6

The Real KB, ye how are ya mate? Like i said mate, i had a more then few issues around that time. It wasn't a simple case of being released. I dont wanna go into it but it was none footballing reason's or any indiscretion at the club mate. I thought the world owed me a living for some of the stuff that happened to me when i was younger, i was a t**t no doubt and i aint proud of some of the stuff i did on and off the pitch. And as i said i had a shaky friendship with mental health problems because of certain issues, got help mate and just played with my mates in Sunday league this morning won 4-2 incidently. But Liverpool and a special friend who is still my best mate to this day and a Utd fan to boot were the only thing's that kept me going. Anyhow jobs a good un mate and thanks for the complement mate. The problem with Carroll isn't Carroll. Its the other players on the team. They are trying to too hard to get him headers and get him going and it's taking the team out of their normal game. Thats not his fault. Once Carroll scores a couple goals the team will settle in and Carroll will just be another cog in the machine.

Totally agree mate , I'm sure that before the game Carroll doesn't ask the defenders to boot the ball up field to him.
We should play to feet then ne whipping the balls in from out wide for Carroll to attack.

LAVERS

I agree, the contrast is really staggering. When Carroll comes on everyone just wants to cross the ball to him.

Not pointing fingers at anyone but the amount of balls Reina hoofed towards Carroll in the Arsenal match was a bit annoying. Carroll also needs the ball at his feet, not just his head. I hate the people who use Carroll as the scapegoat for the team playing better when he is not in it.

Can anyone remember an Arsenal side playing so poorly and without any team spirit, they fell to pieces against us and are even worse this afternoon against the scum.

And another bad day for Woy, you can only feel sorry for WB fans (no)

Only diff was last week Vermaelen & Frimpong (who was actually decent until doing a Masch) kept us from scoring 8.

we were superb yday.however wathing citeh,we need more players of flair, pace, match winners who turn games, and!defenders.we cant rely on the brilliant suarez, all the time.im a pessamist by nature.but truely believe,if! we get them players in(and there is bargains to be had)if were up there by endve january, our crowd could carry us to unlikely title win.if!we get them goalscoring players mentioned

All you need to remember is , this season our aim is top 4.
At the start of the season I thought arsenal and spuds would be our rivals for 4th.
But watching them so far there no where near us.
These "marquee" signings some fans wanted this summer , I feel you will get them next summer.
KK built a good squad this summer and got rid of players that shouldn't have been any where near our team.
So next summer with CL football I'd expect 2 or 3 top signings to then challenge for the league.

Do not forget last year we thrashed the same team of mancity 3-0, bar aguero was not there and now we are even stronger and better and our team spirit is better with stevie g still to come back!

watched man city trashing spuds just now n one thing came on my mind= LINKUPS

GREAT PLAYERS WORK IN TANDOM

in past (i men in last two seasons) city always had talent but never looked sooo dangerous .
IT WAS NASRI-SILVA LINKUP that killed spurs defense

the point is ...two players with similar talent ,quickness n skill THINK SIMILAR WAY...THATS HOW LINKUP WORKS

n at our team....we know SUAREZ IS NO LESSER THAN...AGUERO OR ANY CLASS PLAYER but where is his partner?
one who can think like him play like him, match him

I WATCHED YDAYS GAME ...N MANY OTHERS WHERE SUAREZ SOMETIMES LOOKS SO FRUSTRATED ..yes guys coz other players many times doesn't match his flair ..SAME THING HAPPENED WITH TORRES except SG no one matched his class ...n last season due to SG injure it was torres on his own.

now im not gonna go in torres or .last seasons WHAT I WANT IS ....US SIGN A SIMILAR PLAYER LIKE SUAREZ....WHO CAN PARTNER HIM UP FRONT N MATCH HIS VISION CREATIVITY

whats ur thoughts guys? at least one plsss kenny

Van persie!! commoli at old trafford , id love us to sneaky a bid in for him , or van der vaart
5 gold stars

What are you onabout you just mentioned steven gerrard he will be back n a month then we have to out and out world class players an i think your insulting the players we do have in your words none of them are world class it didnt matter yeaterday or at the emerites we will sign more world class players when were in the champions league or january when teams are out of the champions league ie hazzard when they will be sure where going places
jez

There's a player who's out injured at the moment who might be not too bad at linking up with Suarez when he's back.

Well of course anpther player like suarez would be amazing, dont think we will get anyone like that till next summer ,but we got STEVIE G coming back and from yesterdays game i think we can gel and the midfield can get the link up with suarez sorted out, just need a little more time together, kk knows what hes doing, kingkennykop7

Original poster - you're making my eyes bleed please stop with the caps ta

In all fairness i thought Downing linked up excellent with him. And this after only few matches. Not only that but adam through balls were a joy to behold. The team is gelling. Relax. However if a world class player was to sign great, if not then i have absolute faith and confidence.

Taffytel

1st of all ...there is no intention of saying other guys are not good...downing,hendo all are a step forward ,maxi, raul, kuyt all have improved
but im talking abt some one who has skill, speed, vision to match suarez

guys ...i know SG is due to come in but still...
suarez n sg wont gel.()

torres n SG GELLED COZ torres is n out n out powerful lone striker who just feeds on the good supply he isnt like suarez who loves to built up, work through the field(some what barca style)
...what SG used to do is accurately find torres n rest was done by torres
now im not saying SG IS any where less then suarez...he is mr. liverpool
but im talking abt a player like nasri, silva, mata, hernandez, some one who is fast, nippy,backhill-fronthill all hills, getting my point?

kuyt , downing are good but not in same class where suarez is...
we r winning thats y these things going unnoticed(may be not) but..so many times ...suarez isnt complimented n matched by his partners

N again im not at all insulting any player ok...i wont ever do that guys

WHAT IM SAYING IS ..WE NEED ANOTHER PLAYER LIKE SUAREZ

no disrespect to kuyt,downing,hendo
neither im saying abt passing ...(to some one said SG will be back n he is a world class passer ...mate i know that ok) ...but sg isnt that type of player im saying..someone like silva ..small,fast,short passes ,doing 1-2 touches dribbling in around the box

Not a rumour but really can't wait to see what happens on the last few days of this already exciting transfer window........been more than happy with the signings we have made and looks like they are all settling in well at the club.......I'm sure whatever signings they have yet to make will be just as good and will all add real quality and depth to an already improving squad.........think kk and dc have done a great job this summer and good to see owners who want the club to succeed!!! And we will

We have got a great squad but we need a player similar to suarez because if he gets injured who's going to give us that bit of quality to change a game you could argue gerrard but will he stay fit?

Watching Spurs v City:

* We'll be 7 points ahead of Spurs.
* City will be title contender; and I'd rather have them win than United.

* Dzeko is back to his German League form. (City fans slated and questioned him, now look at him. And Big Andy will do a comeback like his. I'm sure)

*As I'm writing this City's gone 4-0 up.

*I think United will win easily against Arsenal and after that game the table will be: City--United--Liverpool--Chelsea. (The top 4 of this season)

Agreed, Tottenham and Arsenal don't even look like contenders

LFC Eaton

Too early to write off Arsenal and Spurs but the early signs are they are not as good as they have been. Hope we can take the fight to Utd and City. We should not look at top 4 we should fight tooth and nail for the title. As Shanks said " aim for the sky and you might reach the cielling aim for cielling and youll stay on the floor"

Stoke followed by Spurs will prove alot.

28 Aug 2011 14:46:46
Well said Mr Benn. Just like most wanted Aqualani over Raul M, people keep changing their minds all the time. I think this season what ever happens the blind faith brigade who the Liverpool fan of 40 years described us supporter's that support Liverpool FC good and bad times. Dont matter if its a 10 year old who's supported us 3 years. A supporter is a supporter re of time limit and no one has any more right to support our great club then anyone else re of how long the've had the priviliage(spelling) and it is to me anyhow an honour to support us. I told my mate last night who's a Utd fan he really doesn't know what he's missing supporting them. I said its not to late to cross over from the dark side but it fell on deaf ears. Oh well another 3 points but proud of all our players again. Looks like their starting to play to each others strengths now and work each others game out. Their's no doubt we'll be tested this season but i think we've got the character in the team to overcome any adversity. How many player's could captain our club (No slight on Steven Gerrard who's being slightly over looked in my opinion). Carra,Reina,Kuyt,Lucas,Suarez and Adam were both captain of of their respective teams before they come here. Even Stewart Downing, looks a very intense player with very high standards when being interviewed,so many leaders who have all bought in to the Liverpool way big time. Unless we do an Arsenal from when they went unbeaten through the season which aint gonna happen.and thats coming from 1 of the blind faith brigade, the standard of the lower to middlin teams have improved ten fold. We prob will have a sticky result somewhere but its no good if we do is to come on here and go on about price tags. We need to all be behind the team this season through thick and the very few thin times. From Suarez to Flano,Agger to Hendo to Big Andy, if their willing to put that shirt on with pride, go home after the game, be able to look themselves in the mirror and know that they gave 100% even if some things mightn't have come off or scored a hatrick. Heart, commitment as well as good enough for of me. If they continue to show that we'll have a lot more good times then bad. Simple as. Anyone else really glad were not in the Europa this season. Spurs will find that out i'm sure of that and if Bellamy does go their,it goes to show that he fancies getting more game time then if would here. Prob start everyweek for Spurs when he's fit. Anyone think Big Andy will start against Stoke away next week, think could be the perfect game for us to use him to his strengths because they'll try their best to not give us a second and he'll be a great out ball to hold it up against their plethora of centre halves who they even have playing at full back. I think you'll see him start against Stoke anyhow, and if he does, lets support him like any other Liverpool player and not blame him if by some freak of nature we dont get the required result. From one of the blind faith brigade, and proud of it. Jonson6

Yeasterday we have seen one of the best game LFC has played since the 1-4 against the mancs in 2008. Its only the third game and we are seeing a superb team spirit especially among the new commers. The commitments of Adam, Downing, Enrique, Henderson and above all Suarez is remarkable. My MOTM yesterday was Mr LUCAS LEIVA. What a game this guy has had. Awesome absolutely awesome. For me he is actually one of the best defensive midfielder in the world. I have also liked the entry of Skrtel as right back but I think he has played more centre forward than right back in the game.

28 Aug 2011 14:24:07
Dzeko seems to of found his feet an is proving his critics wrong. I bet andy carroll will do the same let's just get behind him an am sure his quality will start to show through!
Skurks

Dzeko is one level above Carrol.Great in the air, great on the ground.Carrol is useless on the ground.Let's just admit that we're playing much better without him in starting 11.Carrol needs to work his socks off to reach Dzeko's level.

You would'nt of said that last season though carroll before he got injured was just as good if not better than dzeko!

Sorry to gloat. But some of us have been trying to tell the doubters all summer long to trust KK's judgement regarding transfers. Now its becoming clearer. Look at the first half against Sunderland (we should have had 3 by half time) & the full 90 mins against Bolton. We got our first away win against Arsenal in 11 years. We may still sign 1 or 2 plus players coming back from injury. Hpefully we are around the top after 10 games then we can push to maintain that position til the winter break. We will no exactly what we need if we need any players at all in the Jan window. We would be positioned to get a top 4 spot or possibly win the league if we could have a second half of the season similar to last season.

I dont think we should get too carried away at the moment. Although I am very pleased with the start of the season, lets not foregt United have a fantastic winning mentality and Man City's attacking quality and ridiculous wealth. I feel we are still shipping too many goals although at the moment they are merely consolation, when we play the better teams and we aren't scoring as many those goals will matter. Hopefully Coates will solve some of our defending problems and another winger or striker would really give us a strong squad ot challenge for a high league position.

Kenny is a genius he's even got Skrtel playing at right back, great game by all the lads yesterday. I know its early days but Adam is turning out to be a bargain, this season he is tracking his man in the middle which was probably he only flaw last year.
Suarez again amazing had a bit of a hissy fit when subbed off but i guess that just means he's keen to play.
I don't know why but it is starting to annoy me everyone saying Henderson cost £20m, that figure was never confirmed by Liverpool or Sunderland just Sly Sports having a guess as usual.

One thing i am starting to notice, i know its not Liverpool related but iv'e never noticed a current Premier League manager (Harry Redknapp) have such an affiliation with the mainstream press. No wonder Spurs are always being built up as top team on Sky he's never off the bloody thing, and i'm sure he writes for the rag. Maybe i'm just ranting.

always a red

Very much agree with you, but for me Adam was always going to be a class player for us or anybody else that got him, his performances last season in the premier league were no accident, you can have a few good performances but he was pretty consistant all year, so as i say that is no accident, and that was in a very mediocre side in blackpool, very happy he's a red, delighted with his goal yesterday, and his range of passing really is top drawer, who said we'd never replace alonso?????
a world cup winner he may not be, and have an exotic name he may not, but his passing is absolutely fantastic, his visoin is 2nd to none, people seem to forget that not everyone of alonso's so called 'hollywood' balls always came off, but having the vision to try them is something comepletely different and adam has that !!!!

I think Harry writes for The Pun, least I recall seeing the adverts on tele.
Say no more.

I agree with you mate, ssn saying it's £20m just because they dont know the facts, but at the same time I would like KK to come out and tell the media what the fee was because it may take some pressure off Henderson. I dint care what was payed for our players, there our players & choose to come to play for Liverpool FC! I can't take ssn they always try make Liverpool look bad!

I know it's been said many times already of recent but I can't believe the amount of whining and moaning about the team at the minute. In not to distant times you would look at the team sheet and be concerned about a few on the pitch and the whole of the bench. Now look at how things have improved. The team looks great - Enrique , Adam, Hendo and the star buy IMO Downing, have all slotted in well and will only improve given time (a commodity that most "fans" appear unwilling to give them!) Carroll causes problems for defenders and the price tag DOESN'T MATTER - if he does the job that KK bought him for then that'll do me fine, and we can judge him at the end of the season when we see where we finish. Anyway, surely the only man that can moan about the price we pay for anyone is Mr Henry himself. If they closed the transfer window today I personally would be very happy with our acquisitions - would prefer to lose some other players first, but the additions have been good and will only improve. GET BEHIND THE TEAM - WE SING YNWA FOR A REASON - LISTEN TO THE WORDS AND UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A RED FOR LIFE.

I hate people saying we can get TOP 4 forget that we an win the title, we have jus as good as chance as any of the other big teams. On ours day there isnt a sole which can stand in our way !

Suarez will guide us to the title :P

28 Aug 2011 12:49:42
I see all is quiet on the we hate Henderson front today? I posted after the Exeter game how he was already showing signs of his potential and I'll say it again now, not just for his cracking goal, but more so because the lad clearly has the vision to make incisive passes. He had Suarez through on goal (again) who should have made it 2-0. People talk about combinations up front and how well Suarez and Kuyt do together, or how much better Maxi has looked with Luis on the pitch etc, but Hendo sneaking in behind Suarez like that is a danger most teams will probably not even consider. And they could well pay the price for that. Henderson didn't create 70-odd goal-scoring opportunities in the league last year by accident. His crossing abilities will bring him many assists this season as well, and add to that a great work rate and an eye for goal as we all saw yesterday and I really don't understand what all the negativity is about! Of course that still leaves Carroll, who I can see becoming even more of a target now. Some people want him to fail, they want us to have a "£35million flop" on our hands. Sky's commentators were criticizing him already after barely being on the pitch for 2 minutes. Enrique I think it was who crossed from the left and the comment was if Carroll had not been so slow to react it would have been 4-0. Funny though that in the replay immediately afterwards you see Carroll starting his run as soon as the ball gets to Enrique, and was in the box well before the cross came in. In the end no one was gonna get to that particular ball, but saying that the £6million player didn't cross well enough is just not as headline making as saying the lad who cost nearly 6times as much didn't score. By the way I'm not slating Enrique, I think he's been brilliant for us, my point is just that the media is going to have a slant towards Andy Carroll, and I'd urge fans not to buy into it. If you aren't convinced by him just yet that's fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but to write him off so soon is unfair. Have faith; if he banged them in in a poor Newcastle team with an average manager at the helm, what could he end up doing for us with the quality that's around him now and the guidance of one of the best goal scorers there ever was...

Ryan 'O

Hi I be honest I totally agree media is putting too much pressure on carroll nd every little thing he does wrong is highlighted....as lfc supporter I have full faith in Carroll nd will only assess his valuation nd his contribution after full year .till then let's just give him chance nd enjoy supporting him nd lfc

For those panicking about the daily mail headline of 'Bellamy says "yes" to spurs' - if you actually bothered to real the article it says nothing of the sort whatsoever.

As usual, the daily mail has no LFC sources and in the article only says that Spurs are interested in Bellamy but would struggle with his wages.

LFC's involvement with Bellamy isn't mentioned, typically, but moves on to Joe Cole supposedly going to Spurs, and it does not say anywhere else that Bellamy has said yes to them.

Contradictingly, in the inside sports section - it says that one of the lower premier sides (I forget which, perhaps QPR) has pulled out the running for Bellamy now because LFC are "in the hunt".

As ever, the daily FAIL are a load of rubbish. Check it out for yourselves if you don't believe me

Big, big performance last night. Everything and everyone was spot on: tactics, both team and individual performances and the fans as well. Super stuff.

Can't say I was surprised, though.
As I said last week, improved fitness levels = sustained high intensity and work rate.
Against SAFC, we came out of the blocks flying; passing, movement, closing down all brilliant.

But 2nd half we tired out and all went pear-shaped.
But last night the fitness was markedly improved; there was endurance.
We were able to maintain the tempo throughtout (a la Fulham, Birmingham,).

It appears that at often times when we create tons of scoring chances but fail to put them away, we tend to get disheartened and lose our way.
But last night we kept going on and on, banging the door (something United excels in) till Bolton cave in.

This folks is mighty improvement in our game.
What more or less separates United from the rest is this element: push, push, push; never lose heart.

We've shown now without doubt that we CAN outplay teams and impose OUR game on them-- both home and away, the latter though less frequently.

9/10 times we'll outplay the oppo at Anfield and bag maximum points.
Away we also are capable of playing well and getting full results (see Chelsea, Fulham, Wolves, SAFC), though disappointing not as much as we should.

The trick imo, is for Kenny to drill and entrench into these players the mentality of push, push, push till the very last drop of blood. Whether we playing well or not, PUSH for a result; never lose heart.

I don't know many games United have won right at the dead through this mentality.
It's what gives their fans confidence going into games that they will get the result (except of course against us).

Despite the great work that's being done and some enthralling displays, I still feel that it's going to be some time before I have full confidence going into games that this team will get a result (save for when we play United or Bolton).
There's still traces of hit and miss in the team.
But it's all correctible, thankfully.

Ed, a question. Say Liverpool remain intent on bringing in a new striker even if Bellamy moves to Spurs, what would be our options seeing as Park's set for the Gooner?

Also, what guess would you hazard on who the additional signing on top of Coetes and the striker will/might likely be (Afellay? Sissoko? Marvin Martin?)?

Peeps F.C up to a solid 3rd in the LFC Rumours league. Looks to be a difficult league with very knowledgable players, well done to all.

Ill be climbing up today

Did anyone else nearly have a heart attack last night, I had the LFC web sit on to keep an eye on the score, it was 3 -1 92 mins and i left it to put the kids to bed, came back down and it said 5-3 to bolton!

It also said 9-0 at one stage

Aye bolton were scoring after the full time, was in shock till i saw full time- goal- full time- goal etc

To all you posters and so called fans who critisised Henderson, hang your heads in shame.

The lads 20 and its took him 3 PL games to build his confidence and find his feet, what a performance yesterday.

He will only go on and build on that performance and in no doubt proove to be an Anfield great. Go on Hendo son.

Lucas MOM yesterday, absolutely outstanding, carrying a bit of a knock second half but still outstanding.

Ozone

How do u know lucas's mom? wat was she doin? {Ed002's Note -

Lucas was awsome but you have to take your hat off to Kuyt and Suarez ran Bolton ragged Downing great signing more direct than young does more for the team and as they said on commentary Enrique looks like the signing of the season.

just to make it clear how i sed two days ago that if liverpool wouldnt offer bellamy a two year contract he would go to spurs because they were willing to offer him a two year contract, n now the rumour is in the papers, so just thought id say told u so :) cymru red

Ye - but he will be the loser can`t he see whats happening at anfield and will miss out - plus its `par for the course` now that when liverpool go for a player - spurs and del boy are not far behind - i think we do all their scouting for them

28 Aug 2011 09:43:01
Not bothered if Bellamy goes to Spurs, he would have been an option but is injury prone. Expect some activity to bring a striker in on deadline day though but only if ngog joins Bolton. I'm sure KK & DC have targets and may surprise us as they did in January.
Fantastic site Eds, but I have some questions.
Does this site get quieter after the transfer
deadline or is it as popular as ever supporting the team (and sometimes not)?
Thanks
Ultra Red

As soon as deadline day is over, the january rumours will commence

Good morning All

Still Smiling after again watching match of the day (sad I know) what a performance yesterday, could of been 5+ but take 3 , really pleased Henderson scored as I am a fan (as you need to be of all the Liverpool players) really liked Suarez & Kuyt up front adds a different dimension and then able to bring Carroll of the bench would scare any defence for last 20 minutes,
whats your thoughts on Kuyt Suarez up front ?? (by the way this site is far too addictive gets me in trouble with the Mrs) great work !!

I was the game too mate, we played them off the park, it was a joy to watch.

Adam exquisite, Suarez fantastic, Kuyt again put a shift in, Henderson fantastic (nice one Hendo lad, that'll shut the doubters up), Downing Anfield wizard, Lucas pure class in mopping everything up in front of back four (back four didn't have to do anything because he played that well), Enrique buy of the season (he's got the lot).

I thought my heart was going to jump out of my chest after the third goal the football was that good, it could've been 5-6. I'm convinced we're going to push for the title.

If its true about bellamy joining spurs were we seriously interested it just seems strange that hhe,s a liverpool fan and he could be choosing spurs over us maybe its just tripe he's going to sspurs but u would think he would want to come back to prove rafa was wrong to get rid maybe we weren,t that serious about him as was reported

28 Aug 2011 09:22:35
hi eds and fellow supporters, have to say last night was the best i can remember us playing in the league since our title challenging season in 09 under rafa. but my point is that i give lucas and skrtel stacks of abuse and slated lucas especially ever since he joined and id just like to say that i looked and idiot yesterday because he was outstanding, to say that we didnt miss our greatest midfielder of all time (IMO) in stevie just sums up how good the lad was and i hope this can be a sign of things to come and credit to the lad fr sticking at his job wen so many people doubted him

28 Aug 2011 09:16:55
As Macca has stated in the past things change. Bellamy has the chance to play more regularly at Spurs so will be joining them

28 Aug 2011 09:13:35
a massive well done to the liverpool team for a performance the likes of i cant remember watching for years and top of the table to boot was the iceing on the cake.
both adam and henderson finally looked to be more settled in the team and in enrique we must have got the bargain of the season.
apart from the obvious in suarez can i say downing was brilliant my only grumble jamie your slip up not only cost reina his clean sheet but me 9 points in my sun dream team.

Why the sun, i suggest another paper

Whilst I agree with what you say, your slip up was to mention having a fantasy football team in The S*n. Did you not get that memo that's been knocking round for 22 years to not buy that piece of filth. Please reconsider your choice of daily newspaper. It is offensive to every citizen of the Republic of Liverpool.

Personally I don't think Bellamy will or should join Liverpool. Not good enough. 32, not the sort of age that we should be looking for, back up or not.

RuncornRed

Yeah, we should be buying someone younger who will put are up and coming youth out of the team.

I am so annoyed by some in media and some fans who fall pray to their agenda.
On media target is Carrol who need to improve in some areas no one denies that but some of the critics are talking without any sense.
They want him to play one touch football and make run behind defence.
He is a player that is meant to dominate box and defenders in it.he is not meant to be messi or suraez with his touches.
We blame him for change in way when we play with him up front without realising that this is actually strength of squad and gives us variety.
When arsenal play all beautifull football but sometimes fail with result all fans of all clubs say they lack variety.
Now when in our squad we have that in carrol then we say. Why he is in team.
Its a squad game.its not carrols fault that we paid 35m for him.
Give him chance.if he works hard and kenny finds a way to fire him up then think about those central defenders who when just suarez is off see carrol coming and otherway.
I say again with coates in squad and some more pace in attack fergi will have sleepless nights ahead.
My request stay clam and enjoy the ride.

Spot on Red Indian, couldn't agree more.

Anyone of the Eds know how long it could be for Coates to get the work permit and will he deffo get one? {Ed002's Note - An application will be made to the Home Office and they will take advice from the PFA and/or FA as to whether the player is suitable for a permit to be granted as an exception based on talent. I suspect he will get it but it may take a week or two.}

Anybody who got the Bellamy story by reading the dail fail should hang their heads in shame. The new editor is the suns old editor and the man personally responsible for the negative headlines after hillsbough. If these readers boycott the sun then it's only fair you now boycott the dail mail.
MIKEY

Yes but if you do not have the luxury of a season ticket then you watch the game on SKY Sports..... which is owned by rupert murdoch... who owns the sun...
What else should I boycott fella.... write me a list and get back to me so I know which papers I can and can't read...... I am sick of this crap..... the article is in the sports section anyway and newspapers have different editors for different issues surely??
I dont read the sun and I cant stand that tit who calls himself an editor everyone knows why....BUT
How far are we supposed to go with this.... I know it is a very touchy subject and I do not want upset anyone but I would like to see a conclusion to the whole hillsborough topic for the families involved.... but then I would like the club to move on.....
justice for the 96 ..... absolutely but then let them rest in peace.

The former editor of that redtop (I won't mention either names as that's like swearing) is not the editor of The Fail, although he does write for it. People should boycott that paper for one simple reason: it's p!sh.

Its not upto anyone to dictate what you can read or not. However your own IQ if it is higher than a chimp may suggest ignore all News International piss. Cause the City of Liverpool has always regected Thatcher and the Tories and they have always hated this city. If you wanna read crap tabloids and have a Tory white van man london taxi driver base agenda thrust upon you then go support Chelsea.

Lucas, Henderson, Adam, Skrtel

4 players who I've read a fair bit of stick for on this site, most of it completely unwarranted.

All played like absolute beasts today, especially Lucas. How many of you doubters will commend a good performance as quickly as you'll jump on a bad one? On my part, I'll put my hand up and say that, while I've not always been the biggest fan of Lucas and Skrtel, Skrtel had a great game today and Lucas has matured into a fantastic player

Henderson scored a great goal but his overall performances have been average IMO.His passing is pretty poor and seems to lack the vision of his team mates.I dont think he should be a first choice yet,Maxi or Raul (when fit) are far more reliable

After that performance by him and the team and you still have to make negative remarks.

Unbelievable!

Paul R

He played excellent against Bolton and showed great passing range, vision, work ethic, control and overall crossing ability. If all had fallen a little better Kuyt would have put in his cross and Suarez would have finished off from his through ball, giving the lad 1 goal and 2 assists.

Henderson have the best game of his life not just score few attacking ball forward too. he is good in the game. Lucas is fantastic now we know why Kenny let aquaman go.

Well said Paul R, unbelievable is an understatement -but, welcome to the world of the new era of negative LFC supporters. I'm sure if we won every game 6-1, they would blame someone for the 1.

John B

IMO Henderson was responsbile for a couple of the best passes and crosses yesterday. Even MOTD picked out his cross that Kuyt almost got on the end of. Give the lad a break.

Some of the clowns who call themselves LFC supporters make me feel pissed off. Just cant please some clowns.
Ozdave

Maxi spent ages being totally inconsistent. Did you only watch the last few months of last season to make your judgement about him. He saved his Liverpool career with all those goals - up until then, he was frustrating to watch.

You need to have a word pal, he was brilliant yesterday, he split Boltons defence 5 or 6 times yesterday creating clear cut chances. How the hell can you be remotely critical after a performance like that.

Ozone

Henderson isnt gonna come in and get a hattrick and get man of the match straight away. Even then some of the fans on here will still say he never played well

red fanatic

Hendo also had two key passes in the Exeter game that lead to two goals...

he's still learning and improving and we still haven't lost a game! give the lad a chance...

numondo

I had my doubts about Henderson, but yesterday he was very good, yes there were few misplaced passes and a couple of wrong decisions, but all players do that, even Suarez lost the ball a couple of times.
I am very happy for the lad, you can see after the goal he showed a lot more confidence and determination. Same goes for Adam.
Some might say it was only bolton, but as others have already posted it could've easily been 5 or 6. great team play.
Roy

Think this shows how bad some of are so called supporters football knowledge is hendo was fantastic yesterday if that was j.wilshere playing yesterday he would be at the back of every paper and fans like yourself would be saying wilshere is class all you so called fans just like to try and say things before they happen to look smart .

Any one that watched that game yesterday could see that hendo ( a young 20 years of age) played like an experienced player at both ends of the pitch he scored a great goal played downing in at the start then saurez for a 1 on 1 then Kuyt from a fantastic cross and there was more so for someone to say his passing was poor just shows that they should be watching rugby are something else

Grow up you fake supporter

Wow what a performance bolton have had a good start to the season but we destroyed them gutted about their goal tho I hope this has taught some of our doubting fans a lesson shakily built Liverpool as a team not gifted individuals 11 men giving it their all and today he would of been proud
It's easy to get carried away with the media speculation linking us with "world class" players but that's not what we are about that's not what football should be about football is a working class game despite sky's efforts to tell us otherwise and Liverpool were the perfect example of this if you haven't already read up on shankly and you will better understand the Liverpool way.
Football is a microcosm of life if we work hard and together nothing is impossible.
Thank you Eds for all your hard work and thank you fellow posters.
And thanks most of all to bill bob Joe and kenny who made our dreams reality.
Ynwa
The phoenix is rising

Totally agree the media and sky need to create superstars to market the game etc and while some players are a different class success can only come through team work passion and discipline. Football is the working mans game and no one understood the trinity better than Bill Shankly, the man who brought true socialism into sport and showed it was the right way to bring success.

Hi all.. Just wondering...
How many players in our current squad touch the 'THIS IS ANFIELD' poster on their way out onto the pitch???? I've seen that kenny still does it as its tradition, but who from our current squad has kept this up??? Anyone know?
YNWA Yas...

Steven Gerrard does it but don't know about other players though.

The Urchin

Personally i touch it every time i go past it, (i have it replicated on my landing) Even if i pop up the stairs for 30 seconds i still touch it on the way down!

You sad busturd! I actually do the same in my house though! Its like blessing yourself! I think all our players touch the sign.

28 Aug 2011 01:57:39
The team played absolutely brilliant today. What I love the most is the fluidity. Everyone argues and discusses what formation we play but the fact is we don't play a formation. We play a style. In the course of todays game we played:

4-4-2 with Downing and Henderson as wingers and Suarez and Kuyt upfront.

4-3-3 with Henderson moving more central and Downing, Suarez and Kuyt forming the attack.

4-2-3-1 with Kuyt sliding in behind Suarez

The starting formation doesn't matter at all. The style of play is whats important.

We certainly play a formation and it is known as the Liverpool formation..

Their is fluidity too in that Henderson and Kuyt can change positions; Suarez often comes wide left with Kuyt taking up a central position with Downing in behind; or Downing swaps wings with Suarez pulling left and Kuyt up top with Henderson in behind him.

All that and Carroll (whose movement isn't as bad as some people seem to think) to come back with a combination of those players - and a fit Gerrard - moving all around him. If it works, and it's showing positive signs already, it'll be a nightmare to play against.

Mr Benn

Oops - should have been 'there is fluidity' - still sleepy!

Are we all hoping north London clubs do well today?

carrol slow.hope comes good.dont see at this point.suarez needs pace with! him.and bellamy in.if! hes injured

Give him a chance - how many competitive matches has he played for us? Injuries haven't helped but remember how he played in the first few months of last season before his injury - he was immense against us and others which is proof of his abilities.

Hi guys/gals the team played played football today ,and i have to give credit to the manager for leaving carroll on the bench , its a tough thing to do after paying 35mil but it was the right move Im sure carroll will do fine its a long season and he will get plenty of oppertunity.

28 Aug 2011 01:42:49
i can onestly say that i have allways been a lucas supporter and allways believed he would come good. he was easily man of the match today. on his performence today i could see him in the barca squad, even the comentaters were suprised when he first gave the ball away!! that was as good if not better than any of macherano's performances he gave at liverpool fc( allthough i really lioked him). sure i will be slated for this but if anyone watched him closely over the 90 mins will agree!!
allways good job edd's please stay sane!

I think Liverpool should buy Victor Moses.
He is a very good footballer, bags of potential.
He is 20(I think), a winger and he is also English.
He fits the bill for us.

Maybe loan him straight back for the season.
I can feel him having a big season this year and his price inflating rapidly.

Hey Ed's, great result btw!
Caotes seems a definate, and being highly rated and only 20, may be a shrewd signing seeing Cahill would have been £12m+.

Onto rumour, does this apparent interest in Affeley carry water? I hope so, wanted us to sign him since he was available from PSV. Hopefully our Dutch connections may help, and player prob wants to play regularly and in EPL.

Heard or got any intel? {Ed002's Note - Nothing, sorry.}

Thoroughly enjoyed todays match,Last few years hated watching us play but had blind faith it would get better.Three years ago we had a fantastic squad but were still seen as a two man club now we have it all the engine ,talent ,invention and determination these lads play for LFC and not themselves .

Realism should kick in soon and its too early to get carried away so keep grounded and not set an unfair target on our beloved team set our target at 4th anything more i a bonus. There will be blips and poor performances but they are going in the right direction.

The success of our season will go down to the hard work of KK ,Henry commitment to the club and more importantly Damien Comolli who has got our targets early no need to worry about new signings bedding in .Teams like spurs and Arsenal will have to give new players time to bed in and integrate.today we saw great performances by all the summer signing playing

Enrique - Has just fitted in , was he really this good at the toon

Downing -Now the complete winger constantly a threat and just a marvelous player ,love his attitude and commitment

Henderson -Energy vision and still a rough diamond ,he will be the next Gerard if we use him properly.Loved that he was still not completely happy with his performance he is setting high standards and will improve.

Adam= So many say he is slow , well find me a player that can outrun one of his passes and has gelled with the fantastic Lucas .No offence Blackpool got robbed if he was English we would have started the bid at 15m

Saurez and Kuyt are fantastic patnership , movement and so hard working , Caroll is going to be a great player just needs time he is only young. The whole team was excellent keep improving

Also forget the price we paid for them in years players will choose LFC over other teams so Damien job will be easier.Seriously look at the quality of the signings no CL,Europa and he has signed grounded players.

Lets not get carried away , but lets enjoy this start and be proud of our players, no criticism just want to enjoy it while it last, and will not forget what they are capable of ,when things are not going our way.Well done LFC and ED great website and great advert to all those LFC supporters who put our team down you have always been fair and keep things respectful.

{Ed007's Note - Thanks mate, great post BTW, I enjoyed reading that.}

Lucas was a absolute MONSTER today in central midfield and whilst Suarez was absolutely central to our attacking play for me Lucas was MOTM, he gave Bolton absolutely nothing all game, BW looked like there was no way back soon as Adam got the third it was over

Lucas showed great organisational abilities and leadership - future captain me thinks.

I am very, very excited about the team Comoli and Kenny have put together it seems we have hot the ground running the new players are fitting in and gelling, if we can secure Coates that would be the icing on the cake.

Toss up between Kuyt, Suarez, Henderson, and Lucas for man of the match today. I reckon Lucas by a whisper. Played a blinder as 'destroyer' infrot of the back four. A position of little glory but of great importance. RED LENIN

Great when people pick different players for man of the match - shows how well the team played, could be suarez, downing, henderson, lucas - brilliant

27 Aug 2011 23:24:41
this isnt a rumour or anything but i think liverpool should look at pato from ac milan, is there any interest at all?

What a fantastic perfomance today. Our whole team were superb, so it's hard to pick a MOTM. But i would have to give it to Lucas, he's grown so much in the last 2 years. And is now an integeral part of the 1st team never mind squad. He gets better with every game and not just against the lesser sides, but he plays well against the big sides too.

Surely we can all see now, how important it is to have a quality squad. I could say so much positive stuff about our performance today, but i don't want to keep you up all night.

Ps. Absolutely delighted that Hendo scored a goal and played well today, but he still needs a little more time.

Very happy tonight, brilliant result today, top of the table for 24 hrs at least without relying on Stevie. G, And the most satisfying thing is seeing the players running around with smiles on there faces compared to last season.

King Kenny and Steve Clarke take a bow between you both you have put a smile and pride back into the club, Seb Coates must be Sat there thinking that all his dreams have come true after watching today's game...

Happy times to follow..
